Great GPX logger, compact OSM maps. Since the late 1990's l've used various handheld GPS loggers, usually Garmin, for weekly hikes around the region and far afield. Galileo is the first app good enough to use a phone instead, for all except extreme or multi-day outings (where a phone is too fragile for dependability). It records GPS logs with basic statistics and has a good-enough filing system to accumulate and organize logs and waypoints. Logs are overlaid on its maps and can be color-coded by relative elevation or speed. It can't generate separate altitude profiles, unfortunately. Logs can be transferred off-phone using Galileo's cloud, or e-mailed directly by export once saved inside the app as a GPX or KML file. The maps are the usual set of OSM choices, some with topo lines and/or shading, and lots of labels. The maps are compact because they're in vector format rather than bit-maps. So one can download an entire large state like CA - or a region - in just a 32GB Phone. Maps for most of the world are available. Battery usage while recording is minimal, a full day uses less than half the charge in my iPhone 6s unless I'm constantly checking the map.

Fastest map redraw...and more. This app has exceptionally fast map redraw speed of its offline maps. Import of GPX files is easy and once they add Routing to Galileo (Guru) it will be a 5 Star App. UPDATED: Turn-by-turn was added and works flawlessly offline. Did I mention the maps? They are the best map implementation of any mobile nav app - OSM or proprietary maps - and I've tried them all! I travel the world and have the world's OSM maps on my phone - 69GB!!! With that much map data other nav apps crawl to a halt performance wise - not Guru. Of course most other map makers don't cover the whole world like OSM does.

Great Wilderness Tool. I us the app in offline mode fishing in remote Canada. No fear of getting lost among the numerous islands and lookalike land features.

Great - Only missing stored routes. Easy to learn/use. Great visuals. Really want to calculate routes in evening while online to use offline next day. Too bad.

incorect maps!. in category of Available Maps there are parts of georgia as ather separate mapsAbkhazia and Sout Ossetia, it may be separate maps because of size but must be in one folder with Georgi!!!! In one folder!!! its occupaid parts by Russia!!!! Its part of Georgia and make in one Folder!

No Arabic language. Please consider to add Arabic language in the next update

Excellent on an Ipad pro. I’ve been using this app when in unpopulated or mountainous areas, works wonderfully. I also ask if it’s possible to make this app carplay compatible.

Help! Latest version crashing!. I’ve used and loved this app for years. Normally I’d rate it 5 stars. However, the latest version started crashing instantly after I entered a search term. I’ve tried force closing and restarting my iPhone, but no luck. Please get this bug fixed!

Essential tool for travelers. I have used it for several years. I live in the USA and travel a lot there and internationally, especially in China. Guru (Galileo) has never failed me. I never use google, and rarely use apple maps. My first look is always Guru. It even works to track your flight path when in airplane mode. I walk around foreign cities and countryside, never worried about network connection. I tag my hotel, or friends home or bus/train station to maintain my orientation. If I find a great, tiny restaurant in an urban maze, tag it. Just download or update maps before you go and all is well.

Lousy and not accurate. The first time I used this worthless app I put in a precise street address in Paris France. The app immediately put in a different address with the correct number but a different street. I tried to correct the error but it would not allow me to change the wrong address. What good is this app if it changes your address to another wrong address. What an expensive disappointment this is. One star rating because there is nothing lower.

Tracks anywhere, even without wifi.. I use it on my iPad in very rural areas. My iPad is not on a cellular network yet I can track my position, speed, elevation and lat/long. I even tracked myself on a plane going 300 mph. I tracked myself on a 4 day hiking trip in the mountains. I wish I knew how they can do it, but it works great. One improvement would be to change the color of roads and highways and trails to make them easier to follow.

Great for route tracking. Love the features of the map and the ability to track the routes. As an avid rider I love seeing my stats for my run and this provides a great amount of detail. What’s lacking is the map seem to be pulled out of a paper map. The visual effect of google or apple maps is missing giving it an old feel to it. I have found myself more and more using rever for that reason alone as both apps do the same. However the graphic quality of rever is better. Would love to see better maps in the feature. Otherwise a great app.

bring the disable cluster settings back please. the settings in the system settings app is gone. along with the “disallow cluster” settings. please bring it back!!!

Great Navigation App. I’ve used this while walking around London and while riding my motorcycle around the SW United States. Works well following saved tracks as on the COBDR or finding a route to a pub for a late lunch.

Perfect app!. Love this app, I first downloaded it because of work and then I moved away where services can be even worse. The great part about this app is you can pre download the map for the area and it works offline which is ideal especially if you’re not wanting to use data or unable to. Being able to pin things to find them again is great and the pins have different categories which is perfect for me. Hands down better then the other maps for these reasons. Google maps has some offline capabilities but it seems to not be as accurate.

Excellent. Simply the best maps for hiking! Shows all the trails not just the official ones. The data is from open street map and Guru Maps adds a well polished interface.

A great navigation app for hiking !!!. I do winter hiking through the winter months, several times a week. I go to places where it would be easy to get lost. The app uses very little phone battery reserve and the combination of the comprehensive off line trail mapping with the satellite location feature is powerful in terms of knowing where I am located and what my options are for a great hike and getting back to the trailhead. The “two-finger” distance measurement, while not crucial, is extremely useful and unique to navigation apps. The documentation and organization feature of all past hikes is also extremely valuable in hike planning and sharing of its GPX record files. I don’t leave home without Guru!!! PapaJoe

Shuts down without notice. Great until it simply stops tracking and doesn’t let you know it has. You could be going a long time without tracking as intended leaving big gaps in coverage. Very frustrating and damaging. Developers advised but offered no solution.

This is an AMAZING app. I initially bought this for my Camino de Santiago walk but have been using it for every walk Download the offline maps for the areas you will be...they enlarge up to incredible detail What I love best is the GPS tracking of your walk. You hit record at the beginning and turn it off when your done with your walk and you’ve got an accurate tracking of where you’ve walked with mileage, time walked, time idle and elevation changes It works completely without Wi-Fi or cell signal I can’t recommend it enough!

Not happy with this new update. So I caved in and created an Apple Sign in. However it will not sync my bookmarks from my iPhone (a running Guru Maps 4.10.2) that were synced to the cloud. So if you deleted your old version and sign in with this new version you lose your bookmarks!! Please bring back an option for the old iCloud syncing! Ver 5.0.1 iCloud Sync still hasn’t been added back (without having to sign in) for iOS devices. Ver 5.0 Why can’t I still have access to my bookmarks I have previously synced with iCloud? Now I have to create an account in order to do this? No! This is not what I paid for. Please bring back the ability to sync via iCloud WITHOUT needing to have an account! Otherwise I would like a refund so I can go elsewhere. Thank you

Great map program. Never travel without it.. I used this map program for years. I love being able to track where I went and look at it later, and even save the data. We travel quite a bit, and use it on every trip, to help us get around, and to track our routes. Then it tells how far we traveled. Great for bike rides as well. I started by using the Google maps while traveling, but have trouble getting it to fill in, and needed to find someplace with WiFi to fill in the details. Galileo let’s you download the maps you need and all the details are there. I also really like being able to measure distance between two points on the map. I have organized a number of files that allows me to turn on and off points of interest, and past routs that I have traveled. Excellent map program, I’ll never travel without it.

An app that you rely on. This is a real navigator. You can daily trust and rely on. I use it on daily basis. One defect if you wanna call it a defect. Why Arabic language is not supported? Really thanks for this amazing app.

Apple CarPlay. This program is by far the best program for navigation of offline mapping. Evgen is always improving the functions for faster access. Just added is Apple CarPlay which puts it above the competition. A few minor bugs are being worked on at the time of this review but believe me, they will probably be fixed before you download. I highly recommend this program for both vehicle and hiking.

5 star app!. A great app!! I suggest GPS filtering. Evgen suggests accuracy filter 100 ft, distance threshold 20 ft. The ascent and descent needs work. It needs filtering, because at present it adds in all the ups and downs of GPS data and gives you a figure that is at least double what it should be.

GPS replacement. Blown away. Imported a GPX from basecamp. Worked great. The waypoints were very helpful especially since you can display the waypoint names on the app right near the icons. The downloaded Maps were very stable when offline. I have very few gripes - one of them being that the icon types didn’t import from basecamp. They all came in as generic. I ended up adjusting each waypoint icon manually.

Not Offline At all!. I downloaded and paid for the app, downloaded all the states that I will be traveling and clicked the offline option. I’m in my vehicle going to new locations constantly and you can Not put in an address even though you have the maps downloaded, you have to have internet so not offline at all unless you just want to watch yourself drive around real time which does nothing for me and probably most people.

Download maps is broken. Getting “error: 6 cannot resolve host name”. The default map is useless for navigation and points of interest.

iWatch version is necessary!. Best offline map app but please develop iWatch version. thanks you!

Where did it go?. I downloaded the trial version and started downloading images while I had high speed internet. I just paid for the app, and ALL my images are gone, and I don’t have high speed internet now. How do I get my images from the original to the pro version?

iOS 13 broke it?. This was my five star navigation app, then I upgraded to iOS 13 and can’t even load a gpx file into Guru now. Doesn’t show as a viable recipient of gpx files on the ‘share’ list. Help!

Slowly becoming useless. I got this to use offline with only gps on trails where service doesn't exist. This has become so bloated with features that it has been less and less appealing and useful to me...now I have to provide an account to sync?! It's a shame since I've been using this for years and it's stable and polished...

Excellent Navigation Tool. I’ve had this app for several years and use it regularly to navigate where cell and WiFi are not readily available in places like Cuba, Ireland, hiking in the Great Smokey Mountains, etc. I especially like the ability to save locations in categories and control which POI’s are displayed on screen. Uses relatively small amount of storage for the detailed maps and routing. Does exactly as advertised!

Great app, good support.. Would recommend. I use it for motorcycle trips where I am frequently out of cellular service.

No supporting. Dont know what happened to this App, used to work great now, worthless... unless its an address like restaurant or bar etc,,, wont allow you to navigate to the address. Sent 2 emails asking for support with no reply over a week ago.

Update broke the app. Have LOVED this app for years. The most recent update appears to have broken it. All maps deleted and no way to re-download them. The maps are back! Hurray!!! So excited everything is working again because, as I said, I haves loved it for years.

Outstanding Value and Quality. I got this app to assist with a long walking trip in Spain and was so pleasantly surprised at how accurate, the maps and features were. It had many tracks and roads that Google doesn't and the offline GPS is excellent. Sure it doesn't have every minute place or road name but at the price you really can't fault it. Thanks Galileo Pro, great product.

My Life depends on this app. I have been using this app for over 5 years. I love reading and guide books. I can cut and paste with markers an information onto the map and read as I travel. I don’t forget then maybe a delicious restaurant and then sites nearby. I can track my journeys. In Fez over 9000 lanes and dead end and groups of young men demanding to guide, but with this app I always near where I was and brilliant it works off line. I use it as a navigational aid always. Thankyou developers for this app.

Good waypoint manager. Great for setting up, storing and managing waypoints for navigation in this app (or to copy into Google maps for later navigation). Can import waypoints as gpx file (setting up and storing multiple waypoints or a track in one go). Copy a long/lat reference from any document and simply opening the app will automatically ask whether you want to create and store this as a new waypoint. Can also share a stored waypoint (send to friend’s phone). Very useful for travellers.

Great functionality, really intuitive interface. I gave 4* instead of 5 only because with my lack of experience I have not been able to test this app to it's limits. I really like what I have been able to do so far

Simply the best mapping / navigating app on the App store.. I've used dozens of GPS navigation apps both free & paid over the last 12 years and I can say without reservation that Guru Maps is the best. Not the best at everything mind you, there's better AUS map data in an Australian made app & better turn-by-turn interface on other apps too, but if you're after a single navigaion app to rule them all, Guru Maps should be your choice.

Beautiful app but 1 important weakness. It's an amazing app, may be the best offline map on the market but search feature almost can't find anything. It's nearly impossible to find an address. Cannot be used as a GPS unfortunately

Roads are not named. I live in the country Australia. With off line maps many of the roads are not named, even streets in my home town... Looks like a great app - seems a shame to have such a fundamental flaw.

Accurate Off-Line Mapping. Used the free version for 12 months before going pro. We initially used it to import waypoint data bases for camping sites and general points of interest as a back up to our GPS when traveling. Obviously being an off-line mapping app, it provides a great redundancy. Our use has expanded into creating our own data base of were we stop, stay and visit. Would recommend giving it a go.

Waste of money. It offers nothing that free alternatives don't have. Mostly useless.

This is a great app for hiking, bike riding or driving. Great app getting better al the time. Wide range of OFFLINE maps essential for travelling in remote places where good internet access isn't available. Galileo has maps available for most of the world. Maps are available for download from within the app or from a wide range of sources including Google and Open Cycle map. The app records your path, great for hiking or plunging into the medina in Fez for example. The maps are searchable. For example it is easy to find nearby supermarkets, ATMs, chemists and local points of interest. Maps can be cached before a trip while you are online and used off line while travelling Easy to use, lots of detail on maps and fast with lots of functionality.

Simply fabulous. I have been using this app for the last 10 years, and it just keeps getting better and better I think it’s the best purchase I have ever made I use it mainly for long distance bike rides in Europe: download the maps , choose a long distance bike path and download the gpx tracks on to the map. Drop a star to show the location of my hotel or train station - and nothing else is needed The gps marker shows immediately if you go off track, and makes it easy to find your way back I’ve started to use it now for finding bike routes in unfamiliar territory closer to home as well It’s great to be able to search (for train stations, toilets, for instance) and great to be able to change map types to suit travel needs Couldn’t do without it

Downloadable Offline Maps - Work Great. Used Guru Pro ‘Offline’ Maps in Asia, Mexico and the Caribbean where there is sporadic or no service it works brilliantly

Must have tool for travel. The offline maps helped me so much during my trip in Africa. Thanks to the developers.

Street name issues. I like the app but there is something they coupd do to improve the street names display. When you zoom in the street name does not automatically shifts so you can’t see which street is it.

Un instrument essentiel pour voyager. Depuis plusieurs années j’utilise Guru Maps (anciennement Galileo) pour préparer mes voyages. Je mets des icônes sur les endroits que je prévois visiter, coucher, randonner et autres attraits des lieux à visiter. Une fois rendue sur place, c’est beaucoup plus facile de se retrouver, même si aucun réseau cellulaire n’est disponible. On l’a utilisé en Namibie en plein désert, la savane du Serengeti en Tanzanie, au Japon, en Inde, en ville comme en campagne. On peut donc toujours connaître notre emplacement exact partout, sans réseau cellulaire. Guru Maps m’est également utile lors des randonnées pédestres au pays. La quasi totalité des randonnées pédestres est cartographiée. On peut aussi avoir les courbes des niveaux. Vraiment un outil essentiel pour voyager.

Add some trip routing, & it'd be much better. I enjoy being able to use a bluetooth GPS to find my location while offline. Now, if one could enter routes to follow, it would help.

Really useful app. Galileo has become indispensable for me when traveling or planning a trip. When I'm on the road, no need for a data plan! Terrific zoom power gives all the detail I want when I want it. I love this app and I rely on it.

Most useful app on my phone. I am always travelling to new places and use this app more than any others. Although some little problems came with the last update. When doing a search it automatically zooms out of your location and when you find what you are looking for and go back to the map, the same thing happens. I still use it all the time and would give it 5 stars if this little inconvenience would be fixed.

Best maps for offline and sometimes online too.. When I’m travelling, I always download offline maps through Galileo. It uses a lot less battery than having google maps open, and has detailed maps of trails when hiking or taking urban shortcuts. I’ve been a huge fan of this app for many years, and got the pro version to support development.

Costs to much. First and last review. You want reviews but you do so after charging people for the app. HELLO. You would probobaly get more reviews if you did'nt charge for the app. Apple I believe is well aware of the Catch-22 they put developers in in reviews.

My default navigator. I've used Galileo pro traveling in the BC countryside, London and Paris data free and know where I was at any time. I was really impressed that I can actually follow public footpaths in the British countryside which includes farmer's fields and small towns where cell signal is non existent. Good luck with Google Map! I now drive with Galileo pro as my default navigator even in town because I like the 2D map aspect and data free. Many thanks to the Galileo team! Spencer

Missing direction to a place or a location feature. I'm using this application so much so that, I'm requiring a proper search in the map when entering coordinated that are not yet registered in the map. Also the itinerary from my actual location to a new entered coordinate or to an existing saved place. All these, can be done on apple Map, google map, but not in your application. Please add up these features in your next update. Awesome application that I highly recommend to anyone into map.

my favorite Offline map. sometime, i cannot download offline map, i do not know why. And "find" option is very poor , you can not find by address and It seemed had to find a place by world too. Even then, it is my favorite App. I use it on overseas trips. Of course, no Internet, need to find every thing by Google map and bookmark by manual on this app.

Very Useful. Very useful app when traveling and wandering round places where data costs are absurd (or you haven't gotten around to picking up a travel SIM).

Great App for traveling, backpacking, camping and more. Awesome app - the maps have tons of common features in most areas. But I did however find the off-road trails for sequoia national park to be a little out of date. The GUI is a little confusing and it is often hard to find the feature you're looking for. That said I hope the developers add the following features: -Have crosshair cursor show you elevation as well as GPS coordinates -It would be awesome if we could buy more detailed maps of certain areas with the latest trails and information. Maybe partner with Tom Harrison maps or nat geo maps?

Good App, crashing on recent update. When zooming in on google offline map, app crashes. Other then that, it works well

How Galileo saved our lives. We were walking the Camino pilgrim route from France to Spain last year in April. I took Galileo with on my iphone loaded with gps waypoints of our route. We crossed the Alps at Portalet via a small footpath... as we got higher snow covered the track and all I had to go by was Galileo's map to guide us. The wife got a bit panicky because there was absolutely no indication of where we were. However the map kept us on track for two hours until we saw a very delapidated sign sticking out of the snowtelling us that we were crossing over into Spain! From there it was downhill, and we were safe!

Amazing!. My fiancé and I used Galileo Pro to navigate our way across Costa Rica for two weeks and it worked perfectly. We drove from Nosara on the pacific coast to Monteverde, La Fortuna then San Jose and never once got lost. It was an amazing tool to have and well worth the price for the full version.

Great map viewer. But no routes or nav. Fantastic selection of online maps to view. Ability to download free vector maps for offline use is awesome. However, my biggest use of maps is to go somewhere. Need to look elsewhere for navigation features.

Just the best solution out there.... ... for navigating routes. I use RidewithGPS to layout a route and then transfer the .gpx file to GalileoPro to navigate it. I love the simple interface. I wish it could do routing but what it does it does well.

Love it — but need a Watch version. Been using Galileo actively for about three years, and love it. I often export tracks to Google Earth to build a virtual map of my property. But I just got an Apple Watch 2, and there is no version for it!

Use it, love it, get it!. Has everything one would need in a map/gps map. Function I use most is distance finding. Tho it's line of sight, gives good idea of estimated time to get where you're going.

Ok.. Battery life only marginally impacted by route tracking, which also works at high speed 390km +} direction finding good, but sync is broken.

What I've been looking for!. In the event of finding myself off the grid and lost, I've always wanted a simple offline map app with which I could find my way back without access to data. This is it! And more!!!!

Indispensable. This app is great for hiking. Especially when you are off the grid. I use it all the time to track my location and for navigation. It's also useful for checking your distance traveled.

Best $5 I ever spent on an app!. I'm not one to rave about apps just because, but Galileo is really the best app for travellers. Download all your maps when you have a WiFi connection and use them everywhere. But it's the highly intuitive design, with excellent features that just work, that rate the 5 stars. Touch 2 points and it shows you the distance between them. Choose offline vs online map modes. The new vector map feature with auto download makes it a no-brainer (used to be somewhat convoluted and "techy" to get offline maps before). You can use the free version but the "Mark Location" feature alone is worth the $5 for the package. But you can always try the non-pro free version and buy in-app the features that make it essentially the same as the Pro version (though I thinkn it's logistically simpler to delete the non-Pro and install the Pro version once you decide to buy, otherwise you will always have the "non-Pro-with-in-app-purchase" version).

Top performer. Galileo Pro has evolved from a good working offline map .. to a really stellar performer. It's under constant development so the features keep getting better while the maps take up the least space imaginable. It's also one of only two apps on the market that imports and exports GPX files correctly. I have walked well over 1000 kilometers in Spain using this app. Get it!

Great offline map. I really like how easy it is to record a track and export it to google drive (or wherever) in KML, KMZ, or GPX. Plus the track highlighting for speed and elevation is cool. State map downloads are also much smaller than other offline maps which is nice when storage space is limited.

Great app for offline gps functionality. I've repurposed an old iPhone as a gps to help me get around a foreign country (by foot or bike). If this app had a routing function I'd give it six stars.

Most Useful!. We travel a lot, often in places without an Internet connection. This app works fast offline, let's us mark the maps with our own notes (bookmarks) and is very accurate. Much easier than Google Maps to use. Totally worth it!

Galileo pro. The best bang for the buck in the map section of the app store. Download the vector map of the region you are visiting and you have off-line access to info zoomable to the scale where the width of my iphone 6 screen represents about 9 meters (30 ft). Choose the POIs you wish to show. In remote parts of Africa, a wifi only ipad with external bluetooth gps accurately showed my position on off-road tracks. In foreign cities an iphone shows my location while not registered on any cell network or wifi. No roaming charges!! It does not offer routing but I have never missed that feature. Just remember to download the maps you need before you go.

YachtMaster. Great detail and accurate GPS alignment of maps combined with intuitive interface.

Like a real GPS!. Keeps the maps on the phone. Doesn't use up data on your plan. Maps detailed and clear! Doesn't route via the streets but does draw a straight line to your destination.

Truly Functional Offline Mapping. I recently used this app while traveling in Wales, England, and Iceland. While it's not as easy and carefree as using the preinstalled Apple Maps, it is quite functional as long as you have basic map skills. It's also a tremendous cost saver if you have an expensive international data plan! I was able to correctly guide us through all three countries by making numbered bookmarks and navigating number wise, to each successive bookmark. The maps are very good. One improvement, that I would like to see, to make the app much more functional and user friendly, would be including the ability to make a route, such as offline marine navigation apps offer. It would be the equivalent of tying together bookmarks to get to an end destination. That would be super! Many thanks to this app's developers for getting me safely to our destination!

Great app. Only thing is I use if for when I go off-roading. Wish I could draw on my trail map I loaded and make the my location arrow bigger.

Great, love it!!. This is the only Map I use on my iPad. I not only like the fact that it's easy to use offline, I like the view of the main streets in the larger towns. In the 5 Million pop town I live in, I've tried Google and Apple native maps. Nothing compared to this Map.

Did not work for my purposes.. Map and interface look great, but it either doesn't work for my area or was not intuitive enough for it to be useable. Still looking for an app to use.

Awesome. Easy to import GPX files. I was able to navigate with Guru Maps Pro in the mountains of Ecuador. I use the app anyplace I might not have cellular service. I'm very happy that the app keeps improving and getting updated. A lot of features have been added over time. I use it less for recording, but the option is there. A solid mapping and navigation tool.

No directions. Either this has no way to give directions or it has the most unintuitive interface ever because I couldn't find it.

Do not download the update. I just downloaded the update and lost all my data. The app crashed as soon as I opened it. It tried to load my data that was in the older app and crashed every time I started the app. Removed the app and then reinstalled the app. It loaded but when I tried again to load my data it crashed. Do not get the update. This company is the worst when it come to updates. I have had this same problem with many of their updates. I will be looking for a more dependable app to use. This app is nothing but trouble.

New version Crashes - fixed. Just got the new "fixed" version and it works great again.

Great to have when traveling. App is great to have when traveling, particularly when connecting to the web is problematic. Offline maps don't need an internet connection, WiFi or cellular, to be helpful in a pinch. Glad to have it and I downloaded maps for the states I am likely to find myself in.

great app. This app is really helpful when go to a place eith no signal. download the country map that I am going, open and search the place I need to go. Although is not gps, but I still able to see how to get there and what direction I am heading to.

Best offline map and tracker. I used this app on a recent trip to Chile. Whether in Santiago, the Atacama region, or Easter Island, the maps were accurate even down to trails and the tracking was right on.

Extremely powerful but easy-to-use and intuitive. I have been using this on a long trip through rural Oregon. The ability to see your location on a map when you're offline is only the beginning. Altitude is handy. I used it to track my location while traveling obscure roads and now I will be able to retrace that route. There are many other features which I am just starting to explore with the help of the well-written user's manual.

Simply the Best!. Love the app. I can't say a bad word about it. Would love to see real satellite data vector maps for offline use, but can't fault a single thing!

Crashing after last update. Overall great app and I use it on daily basis but since last update It keeps crashing every few minutes while recording route, to be specific it interrupted my mission route recording 8 times in 1.5hrs. Please fix it and review goes back to 5*.
