The best Camino planning app. If your going to walk the Camino, get to know this app. It’s the only one you will need! I love the stage planning feature as it helps to see what’s up ahead!

Hard to navigate on the map but otherwise on. Overall the app is pretty good. It’s very informative and is kept up to date. It’s also very easy to see where you are on the Camino at any time so making sure you make the right junctions is easy My only complaint, and it’s a big one, is that the developers made the service icons (for the albergues ect) so big that they obscure the name of the town they are in. When you try to zoom in, the name of the town disappears. So it’s really hard to know exactly where you are at any given time. You can zoom in and see where you are on the trail, but you lose all reference to where that is on the map because the names fade away. This makes it really difficult to plan and navigate. I wish the developers would only show the Camino trail and village/city names on the map when zoomed out, and then fade them out and replace them with service icons as you zoom in closer. This would be extremely helpful.

What a helpful tool. I used this Buen Camino on my Camino from St Jean to Santiago. I did not book any hostels ahead, I used the app to investigate the upcoming villages and walked up to the hostels and got a bed every night. The map with the yellow dot showing my location bailed me out a couple of times when I got turned around or I went off trail to see tourists items. The yellow dot shows your current location and the app shows the Camino path, this was handy to see if I was north or south. The app also helps plan the next day distance and planned stops. I will be doing the Portugués from Lisbon and plan to use Buen Camino again.. I highly recommend this app!!!

Gold Standard. I’ve used Buen Camino on two Caminos so far; the Camino Frances from St Jean-Pied-De-Port and the Camino Portuguese (Littoral/Coastal/Central Hybrid) from Porto. I’ve found it a fantastic aid in customizing my stages. The profile view was handy for planning the start of my day on an uphill climb (a great calf stretch) and ending my day on a flat or downhill stretch (so much easier that ending on a long uphill). It’s very intuitive once you get the hang of it. There are excellent tips about alternative paths into and out of cities (always walk in or out along a river if available-especially into Burgos). Also, it has great insights into points of interest along the way.

It’s free, it works, but it needs some tweaks. Love this app and am grateful that it is provided at the free cost of FREE! Some suggestions: Make it so that you can (in one button) delete all the pre-set daily stages, and add your own. Make this a permanent change, one that the app remembers. As it stands now, every time I open this app I have to scroll through both MY daily stages that I set up, AND the pre-set daily stages to find my option for today. It makes the list twice as long and it is super annoying. If i delete the pre-set daily stages, EVERY TIME i open the app they are back! Add a base map to your Navigation option ‘How to Get Here’. The compass works great, but a base map with streets would make navigating cities SO much easier when you are trying to find a hostel, cathedral, etc. Add ability to write reviews for hostels, and for people to then read these reviews, rather than just 5 star rating. For example, I could then learn that one alburgue’s beds are particularly noisy over another’s... etc. Thanks for your hard work!

Great app!. The only thing that would make this app even more useful is adding km markers to the alburgues and towns so you can tell how far things really are, since the billboards are never accurate!

Love the plan your own stages. On the Camino and I downloaded a few apps to try and this is definitely my go-to. My favorite part is planning my own stages on the fly - figure out each night how far I want to walk, and then use the stage planner. It also works offline - so I can see photos of the church or so in the little towns which helps me identify where I am. Took me a bit to figure out to swipe to go to next town.

Good but a bit hard to use. I was super happy to hear about this app as my planning was getting me stressed, this app definitely took away a lot of that stress by having everything I needed to know in one place, links, recommendations, and lots of very useful things. However, I found it very unstable on the stage planning feature, I may not be using it correctly but everytime I want to plan a new segment or check I notice all my previous work has moved or disappeared, I also find it really annoying that the start point won’t pick up where the last stop is making me go every time through a huge list and spend so much time finding the start point again.

Great Resource. The app has a lot of great features. It is the best app I’ve found for an all around grouping of resources and information. I just finished the Camino de Santiago (11 October 2023) and relied on the app more than any other resource.

Very helpful. Ok so when I do the camino alone I don’t use this app at all because why I like the Camino is you don’t need to plan anything at all. But I’m going with a baby this next time and I need to make sure there are hotels on each town so this is good

Camino Norte October 2019. Hiking the Camino for the first time this month- I initially did not want to use an APP, but the map on Buen Camino provided guidance where the road signs were unclear. There were times when the names of this cities did not align with the guidebooks I was using, which made for some confusion.

Great app!. Downloaded it but was using another app until a fellow pilgrim on the Camino Portugués explained why he was using this and what he liked about it.

Very helpful information.. This app is the most comprehensive one I have found about the El Camino de Santiago. I’m about to walk for the first time (probably not the last) and the answers to questions have been so helpful. Highly recommend.

Good. But buggy. Overall, pretty helpful. But the most helpful part, “planning your stage” has a massive bug that keeps repopulating stages you have deleted/removed. Very annoying to keep doing that, or trying to ignore stages that aren’t yours (they have default stages that just don’t die)

Mito. I found this guide extremely helpful, especially during the off season. It was simple to find the albergue phone numbers to call ahead and be sure they were open. And the reviews and list of facilities too. Both for albergues and towns Beware that albergues are not always open when they say they will be!!! Call if in doubt:-)

Camino App. It’s a great app, however, some of the pricing and details about albergues is not accurate. It is really helpful especially the compass aspect. One of the main issues I had was with the set up your daily stages and how whenever I got back on WiFi it would replace the stages that I had removed previously. Other than that great app and would recommend it to anyone doing the Camino!

Love the locator dot. Thx for the hard work on this helpful app! So appreciated so many times. It would make it even more fabulous if the app could find you faster. Every time I opened the map it toome all the way back to St. Jean and it was hard to read city names. Thanks again!

Functional Guide. I used this app on Camino Portuguese from Lisbon and Camino Finisterre. The map is more accurate in comparison to when I used AllTrails for Camino Frances (fairly sure that was created by someone biking instead of hiking). The app provides a list of municipalities and the services available. The maps have points of interest (albergue, churches, monuments etc), notes on alternative routes, warnings about dangerous crossing and long stretches without food/water. The stage planning tool is paid for those who can afford it. Those who cannot can activate the tool for free and recite a prayer at the destination. You can change the start/end for a stage and add or remove stages. It has distance on paved and unpaved surface, ascent and descent. The only recommendation I have is to make the map accessable on Apple Watch. I still use AllTrails in the background for off route alerts.

Great app!. This is a very useful app to plan anyone of the many caminos. Lots of great information which makes daily planning so easy!

Epic app. Ditch your guide book, the Buen Camino app has it all. GPS, hostels, places of interest, alternative routes. It’s super intuitive and easy to use. I am now walking into France and have been looking for something similar but nothing compares. Best app ever !!! 5 stars

A must have, and it saves weight!. I used this app as my primary guide on the Camino Frances starting in St Jean Pied de Port. My only guideline was to complete the Camino in 32 days, and this app helped me do that. I actually downloaded a few others as well, but this ended up being the best by far. The app proved to be an excellent way to plan my stages, and it was the best way to plan my stays each evening. When I showed this to other pilgrims along the way, they immediately downloaded it. Can’t tell you how much time this saved, and it saved me from needing a guidebook— plus it was significantly cheaper. Also, the map feature kept me honest when the trail could be vague. Brilliant!!

Great app!. Highly recommend. We flew to Baiona, Spain having not planned any part of our walk (so so busy back home, hence the need for this trip). I found this app and love the ease of use and all the extras. Thank you to the authors. Wonderful!

Still getting notifications about Roncevailles. After 2weeks I still get notificatons about services in Roncevailles. Why? Not really an app, just a database of places to stay and see. Have to navigate manually to present position. Doesn't track progress or how far to go. Simply a database, a pretty good one. Probably more update than hard copy guide.

App Not working. I was so excited to try this app to plan my northern route, and I spent $6 to buy the Northern route within the app. It’s not downloading the files, and when I click on a city to show places to stay, it’s blank. I wrote the people behind the app (they ask you to contact them on WhatsApp), and I can see my message hadn’t been read yet. 😒 I’m hoping this is resolved quickly, so I can amend this review and say it’s an amazing app! It has such great potential.

Good but needs improvements. They r very responsive to ???s. Overall good app. Be aware you have to buy your section. It allows you to use KMs or miles and it is very useful to create your own stages based on the miles you want to walk each day. Missing is detailed written descriptions of the stages but there are symbols and grade maps. You can chose town with amenities you need by looking at symbols and it also gives you info on places to stay in towns so you can call to reserve I have sent them many suggestions and they respond right away but the changes won’t come for a while yet. Problems are that the stages function puts all the standard stages that you delete back in about daily. Your custom stages r still there but you have to delete all those standard stages regularly. Also does not recognize your location so every time you want to set up a stage your choices start at the very first town again. Takes a lot is scrolling towards the end! I think with some improvements you’ll have a good app here but would still have one of the written guidebooks on my phone for route guidance.

The #1 app to use daily. I hiked the Camino France route last year. No one had told me about this app. I kept getting lost almost daily because yellow stripes are sometimes painted showing which way to go. But if you’re distracted or miss the yellow stripe you will get lost. Once I found this app the Camino became very easy to hike. The towns along the route are clearly indicated on the app alone with the hostels. This became my #1 daily app and planner!

Immensely valuable tool. The Buen Camino app was a wonderful resource as I hiked the Camino. It allowed me to know exactly where I was in relation to the trail and reassured me I wasn’t lost when I couldn’t find any trail markers and helped me find my way back on the seldom occasion that I accidentally took a wrong turn. It helped me find Albergues to sleep at and it was a great resource for planning distance and what localities I wanted to stop at and what those villages would have available for me when I got there. If you want peace of mind when you’re hiking the Camino, like where you’re going, what you should see, and what you need to know, then this is the app for you!

Easy for an 80 years old woman who is not so smart with IT!. So user friendly for an 80 years old woman with not so sharp mind with IT gadgets. My friend who was traveling with me dropped out until her knee gets better was my guide with this App. But she taught me well before she parted. Thank you for your App!

Absolutely essential!. This guide is as accurate as it can be, complete, and informative. Along with all of that, it's easy to use and navigate through. Absolutely essential during those moments when you feel lost, tired, hungry, worn out, or needing to replenish cash reserves along the Way.

Essential companion. This is by far the best Camino app for ease of use and depth of information regarding the route and sites. Best of all, the accommodation list offers places to stay where they love pilgrims.

The best Camino App. The interface can be a little bit confusing because there are so many features, but once I got the hang of it this is the best and most comprehensive app I’ve found for the Camino De Santiago. I’ve used it on portions of the Norte, Primitivo, and Francés routes.

Helpful guide and lighter then print guides. So far I have used this more than the paper guide. It has been accurate and the prices are much more in line than the Brierly guide. All this and free!

Made the pilgrimage much easier. The app let you see distances between towns which helped to plan stops and meals. Made reserving lodging very easy and the maps with Google kept you from going to far astray. Only looked at my guidebook for comparison a few times. Highly recommended!!

Great tool. Generally speaking, this is a very good app compared to others that I have used. Switching between pages can be a little clunky. I love the identified accommodations to pick from for which to stay. I am on my third Camino route and use this app every day. Keep up the good work.

Best App for the Camino...wherever you start!. Great job in creating this App! This came in handy on numerous occasions. Buy the route you are taking; it is well worth it! Great for cyclists too! Because folks are actively updating, you will be ready each morning. My husband and I did both the Northern and French Camino (starting at San Sebastián to Santander, then León to Santiago), and this App was better than google. My phone was my camera and guide! Buen Camino!

Northern Route - Camino del Norte. We used the app and it was very helpful, being in an unknown country it gave us a sense of security knowing where we were going. The route was beautiful and the markers were everywhere but many times without the app we would have been very lost. Highly recommend it.

5th Camino I will use those app for.. This is the most accurate, useful Camino app there is. I wouldn’t think about using another app for my fifth Camino coming up. I’ve used this one every time, I’ve tried the other ones and they’ve always failed me. This one never has.

New user. This app provides an outstanding level of detail about the Camino! So thankful that this exists. The app gives great descriptions on reasonably distanced segments, which allow for adjustments to each day and each day’s destination. Wonderful resource!

Development needed. This app is a good starting point to plan your Camino. I would suggest further development to make it easier for the user to go back the previous screen instead of starting all over again. It would be helpful if the user could make the icons bigger or tap the icon and see what they are for example laundry, wifi, camping. Another option would be if the user could preset his/her predefined preferences (wifi and medical services) and the app would show the hostels/hotels with the options first and all others in a section below. It would be nice if the legend with icon could collapse. The daily planner is a great idea to plan your daily hike. At first it’s easier but then as you advance it becomes cumbersome to find your starting point. Why doesn’t the app have the intelligence to use the end point for the previous day.

WOW! This is it!. Third Camino, successive years, Frances, Portuguese and now Norte. Talking about need for a Google turn by turn map, better instructions. Needed some on others, really need it on Norte! Halfway through find "Buen Camino". Wow, it does everything! Getting ready, what to take, when, which one. Most importantly, when to turn, which options are there, and, an overhead satellite view that you can zoom in on and see the house you are standing next to and which way to turn! Thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing state of the art navigation to the Caminos!

All the information you need and more. If you only used the map to track your location the app is worth it. And there is so much more available. A huge help while walking Porto Portugal to Santiago Spain.

Good app but can be better. I use the GPS and map function of the app to follow the Camino and this works well. If the map had a scale it would be more useful, i.e. how far is the next village?

Great Resource. My wife and I hiked the Camino in July 2021 and this was a very valuable and helpful resource. I would highly recommend it. My only critique is that the app currently does not seem to have been updated recently.

How to use this app. Can be tricky to figure out how to use this app! Here i tried to write out brief instructions because it truly is useful to have this app. Select your guide and download it. You can download multiple if needed. Hit “use this guide” for the route you wish to see. Then hit “plan your daily stages”. Then select the appropriate stage. From there, hit the green “view on map”. Here you can see the locations and descriptions of historical buildings and hostels. Eat well out there!

A must have. I used this app ALL THE TIME on the Camino. It has so much useful info (route profiles, accommodation, reviews…) I only had one issue with a route the whole 31 days of Norte. Highly recommend.

Why pay?. The Buen Camino app is quite good. We used it every day on our 800km walk. Unfortunately you get cheated when you buy the app in Australia. We downloaded it in Europe and it is totally free, maps and all. Why then do Australians have to pay?

Great app! Could be better.. Could use some navigation buttons. And away for pilgrims to add comments especially to alburges. Also a bit slow at times Fix those 3 issues and you have an amazing app

It’s alright.... This app is average, the information is good. The use of Apple Maps also good. However it's not very intuitive. Several 'clicks’ are required to get to the map, which for me is used most often. Also a bit buggy, once the route is updated, deleted stages reappear and need to be deleted again.

Camino Del Norte. Many beautiful sights, greens, old towns, history. The Camino is now part of the lives of the Spanish people in the Norte region. Everything seems pleasant and pretty safe for pilgrims. But one must enjoy walking and best to do their own Camino for reflections and experience.

Helping Hand on the Camino. Just knowing that I could never get lost because I had this handy companion always with me, made things so much easier. I could let go and just enjoy the track!

Manque d’assurance. Départ de Saint-Jean Pied de Port pour le camino francès en août 2022. Une chance que j’avais Buen Camino car j’ai pu suivre le bon chemin tout les jours même si je partais de très bonne heure et que je devais m’éclairer avec ma lampe frontale. Bonne application dont je ne passerais plus.

Great App!. This is the app every Camino hiker should use. It covers everything from hostels to points of interest. Well done, bravo! Well worth the money. We just finished the French route and could not have done it without this app.

App has potential!. Many aspects of app I like. Setting up my own stages are great. A few glitches though. I can’t access websites of accommodations although it provides a prompt. German version gives more info on accommodations! Won’t let me go back to stage after looking at accommodations , I must start over. Also misses stops on main Camino from Triacastela to Sarria. Only shows South Variant.

Daily stages. It every time adds extra daily stages

Le localisateur ne fonctionnait pas ..... Le nom des établissements n’était pas toujours inscrit....

Planificateur d’étapes. Lors de la planification, comment puis-je y entrer (ou confirmer) sur l’Apps, le gîte que j’ai réservé? Pour que ce soit enregistré! Comment faire? Est-ce que c’est possible?

Great app!. I used this app just halfway my walk to Santiago! Great maps! Only remark I have: sometimes my satellite map would not be “visible” only the yellow line indicating the Camino Road. Not sure if it’s an iPhone setting issue or something else (I used the off-line maps or had my phone in flight-mode so as not to incur the crazy roaming cost from Canada)

Excellent App. I used in my first Camino and using it for my second. Routes are well marked. Photos of places are addional help. If you can add the total km when you from to the place you are going, that would be nice. Unless it is there but I can’t find it.

Lacking. The app helps with planning but the labels are super hard to read, it doesn’t help if you’re lost and lacks good details.

Amazing tool. Top notch.. We struggled with a guide book until we were shown this app. The Camino provides. Great app.

Best Camino GPS day-to-day guide. Tested on four Caminos, the Buen Camino App is my proven guide. Especially on the Caminos Primitivo and del Norte, it helped me to find all the treasures and I never lost the way.

Unable to download selected route.. Selected the route from le Puy to St Jean. No route detail or map would download. Disappointed. Says it’s a free download, I guess you get what you pay for.

Decent App. Good info, the only issue I had was the gps locating me. I have an iPhone 7 and the location on the map was often wrong so I ended up using he post guide as well.

Best app for El Camino. Love this app, it allows you to plan stages, see hotels on the way and almost everything you need for El Camino. I use it for all my travels in El Camino.

So important to have!. I have other resources but this is easy, up to date and allow you to directly connect to the Albergues. Love. Love. Love.

Language problems. Although chose english as my preferred language, i keep getting pages that are entirely in spanish. Also, only albergues are listed as places to stay. Aren’t there pensions in some of the smaller places along the way? I would prefer not to do 20kilometers straight up in one day.

Best Camino App. I’ve used this on the Norte, Primitivo, Portugues and to Finnestere. Wish I had used this on the French route!! It is the best for planning and finding suitable accommodations.

Not Helpful. Started my Camino Frances and as I could not use my phone the app was all but useless. Wi-Fi doesn’t exist in the Pyrenees or parts of rural Spain. What I needed was an app I could download and use regardless of Wi-Fi. A friend I was walking with put it best “this is an app designed by people who are Camino people not computer people”
