From the ease of use and the ability to use your own music selections, hearEQ is perfectly designed to be the go-to choice for developing your ear. My students have shown tremendous improvements in mixing and productions, and I completely attribute this to hearEQ. Thanks Ten Kettles! Keep up the great work. You are making a difference!" -Chandler Bridges, Ph.D., Professor (The Los Angeles Film School); Audio engineer (Will Smith, Aaliyah, Johnny Mathis, P-Diddy, J-Lo, Bette Midler, LeAnn Rimes, and more) with two Grammy-winning albums.

“After half an hour with the app I had a noticeable improvement to my score, but I was also thinking in much clearer terms too!” -Tim Webb, www.discchord.com

----------------------------------

Every frequency range has a color, a quality, a character. For sound engineers, musicians, and other enthusiasts, knowing how to apply this to an equalizer (EQ) can make a transformational change to your sound—whether you're mixing a live concert, a recording, or even playing music through iTunes. (VIDEO @ www.hearEQ.com)

It's a simple app with a powerful promise: if you learn the qualities of each frequency band—for example, cutting 4kHz puts sound in the background—then you can make equalization work for you, and truly transform your sound into something professional and beautiful.

hearEQ uses your favorite songs on your device to create custom ear training exercises that a) teach you all about frequency bands, and b) help you really hone your EQ skills. A standard 10-band or 30-band* equalizer is used, just like you'd find in iTunes and on many professional sound mixers. Your song will be played back with a simple equalization applied—and you guess what it was!

> Was it really clear, maybe a bit hollow? Could be a 1000 Hz cut.

> Was it muddy? Maybe that's a 500 Hz boost.

> Was it really present, almost too in-your-face? Sounds like a 4kHz boost.

Ten questions, ten frequencies, and then you get a score. Want to focus on just a few frequency bands to start? You can do that too. Keep at it, and you'll be an EQ master in no time.

Want to learn more? Check out our site and the hearEQ video at www.hearEQ.com.

*The 30-band equalizer is part of the "Advanced EQ" module, available as an in-app purchase within hearEQ.

NOTE: hearEQ works with any track on your device, with the exception of tracks that prevent our EQ processing, such as DRM-protected tracks and cloud tracks (e.g., Apple Music). That said, hearEQ ships with several built-in practice tracks, so you'll be able to start EQing right away!

Very cool A+++. Something I’ve always wanted!

Actually Pretty Good. Great for learning how the mixing of certain frequencies change the sound of music. Only took off one star for making us pay for pink noise. Edit: Adding the star back because of how much I'm enjoying using the app and the developer definitely demonstrates their care for the app.

Finally. This is the eq training app I have been looking for! Perfect! Awesome company! Awesome app!

Absolute Lifesaver. This app is awesome– it’s the only one I’ve seen that quizzes you on boosts AND cuts and it’s so easy to use your own music. It’s best if you don’t use phone speakers, I do it in my car and with headphones. It’s super fun and easy to do for a long time. My ear has noticeably improved. The price is insanely worth it if you’re dedicated to improving your mixes. This is a company that obviously cares for musicians– hearEQ, beat mirror, and Waay are all such valuable tools for improving your ear and musicianship. Genuinely, thank you!!

Module?. Hi, just got this app last week and I love it. It’s been a game changer for my ability to hear frequencies and correct feedback! I purchased the pink noise module and am not finding where to access it. How does it work?

Love this app. Bought this app to help me better recognize the different frequencies. Loving it so far! Definitely making it a part of my daily routine to practice 30min a day!!! Love it that I get to practice to the songs in my library! Keep up the good work!

It's cool. Good training. I saw a big improvement in my listening after 30 mins. You should know that it's another $2-3 to unlock the 30 channel EQ. You start with ten or so.

Really Good App, Just One thing Missing... I really enjoy using this app. It helps fine tune my ears for better beat production. I just wish I could add song to the add song feature without having to connect to a computer. Not having a MacBook with my iPhone makes this process very difficult. Maybe a feature where you could add songs directly from iCloud or files would be nice, it would definitely deserve 5 stars. Other than that the app is perfection.

COOL. Not sure why but every time I try to open the app it immediately crashes/closes making it unusable. I uninstalled/reinstalled it several times with no luck. iOS version is up to date etc... Please fix? UPDATE: the app finally opens and functions fine now, i thought it was due to an updated version since my last review but since the Dev responded and i dont see any changes in the Version History timeline i'm not sure what happened; but i'm glad i can finally use the app! Gave it 4 stars for the nice interface and good customer service, will update my rating again once i experience the app's learning results and methods etc.

Brilliant, fun, effective. Though it’s only my second day using this app, it’s quickly becoming my go-to training tool. The number one things this has over other solutions is the ability to use your own music library, training my ears on much more relevant content. Would love to see a Mac version to use on my monitors.

Great app. Man what a great thing. This will help me with mixing a ton.

Lifting weights for your ears. Reps every day!

Cool App. Learning to identify frequencies is essential for anyone interested in audio engineering and this app does a good job with improving your skills. I would like to see some refinements in the user interface, but overall I would definitely recommend this app.

Great App. This app is perfect if you are trying to practice identifying frequencies and problem solving when it comes to EQ. Being able to practice with songs in your iTunes library is a nice feature as well. Another helpful feature that I discovered is using the 30 band EQ (upgrade) practice mode to identify where certain instruments sit in the mix. 5/5

This app is amazing.... I haven’t wanted to write an app review before using HearEQ. But I’m telling all my musician/audio friends about it, so it feels only fair! I used to use Golden Ears back in the day for audio ear training. HearEQ is like what Golden Ears wanted to be when it grew up. Lean, mean, contextually applicable machine. The ability to load up your own music, actively train and quiz on is game-changing. Doing this while outside of the studio environment (my favorite place to assess mixes) is a dream. Lots of thoughtful detail helps you train exactly what you want to train. I went straight to buy the advanced EQ module, IMO this should be priced at 30 bucks not 3. So valuable. And so hard :) TenKettles/Alex is my hero. Thanks for making this, it’s directly responsible for improving my hearing and skill as an engineer.

Perfect. Buy it now.. Elegant User experience makes this app incredibly intuitive and easy to use. My only enhancement request would be to allow the quizzes to increment through a playlist on either each quiz, or each question.

Hear EQ, ear training on the fly. Being able to listen to boost or cut frequencies on real tunes you know is very real world helpful. I have been looking for this type of tool ever since I had earn training at Berklee. This is it.

Useless without upgrade to subscription. Will allow me to import local files on iPad and EQ that is on basic version is off and useless. Waste of time and money! Not any real setup options

Only needs 1 more feature. It’d be really helpful if there was a Compare button after you miss a question on a quiz. That way you could better understand the differences between your guess and the right answer. But I use this daily!

Better and better. This app continues to mature as a very capable ear training tool. I wish I could have had something like this years ago.

Does not work with Apple Music. App sees some songs in Apple Music library but does not allow you to play any of them. No errors, song isn’t even selected. App is ineligible for refund. Don’t waste your money.

HearEq is amazing. Really cool to use right before I start school! HearEq has the right amount of songs to study from all genres. I recommend this app to anyone wanting to develop a golden ear when mixing/mastering music.

Funky. The app SLAPS

Good enough to share!. I tell my friends about the app!

Yes!!!. I've been looking for something like this. This is a great app!

Must grab. So far it’s helping a lot in my first few minutes of using it. I love how you can adjust the quiz to just one frequency or all of them! A must grab for all producers and engineers.

Excellent for audio students. I love the fact that you can pick your weak frequencies to work on. Very accurate and customizable.

Very useful app! Improved my mixes. This app is very helpful. I've used it to improve my mixes. It helps you learn to recognize what frequencies are too high or low. With the pink noise add on I purchased, it makes a great ear game that teaches as I play. The developer was super helpful and let me know we can import our own MP3 files for mixes we are currently working on using iTunes. A great tip! Right click on the song in iTunes and add an album and artist under get info for best results with that. Anyway, get it. This is one of the best apps I've ever used in terms of improving the quality of my musical work.

Outstanding. This is an absolutely must-have app for ear training on your phone. I have a few others that I hardly use at all, because nothing else I've found comes close. Simple, full-featured, effective, and well designed.

Marvelous. Once you’ve started ain’t no going back.

Great app for training tour ears. This is a

So far I like it. It's a pretty smart way to become familiar with frequency ranges, by removing or adding peaks to songs in my library. It's much harder to do than I thought it would be. Edit: the more I use this, the better I think it is. It has the side benefit of training my ears to hear how famous songs would sound if their overall balance was disturbed and I think it's making me better at knowing what a well-balanced mix sounds like.

Ear training on another level. 💯❤️

Must Have!. For an audio engineer like myself it's imperative to be able to pick out frequencies on the spot. I can train my ear while listening to my own style of music anywhere at any time..Great app!

Dope. Great for ear training!

Just too expensive for what you get. I really liked it at first but for paying $6 the advanced eq and pink noise should all be included and it sorta ticked me off that it wasn’t to be honest. I mean the entire gta game on mobile is worth that much and I could load any song into fl studio and pull up the eq and test myself that way for free. Despite that I would still actually use the app because it is well made but it just doesn’t feel worth it unless it was all included and now I sorta just feel urged to use it just to get my money’s worth out of it. No disrespect to the creator because you did do a good job making the app and I guess I shouldve looked into it more before buying it anyways but for $5.99 there shouldn’t be any micro or side transactions whatsoever that is a big enough price to include it all in one package and without that it just feels like $1.99 app at most

Fast developer response time. App crashed on launch when I first got it. Left a review about it and - what do you know - it works not two days later! Excited to dig in and leave a long term use review.

Sound training. Wonderfull little trainer. Plays like a game with my favorite music but quickly trains my hearing. I run sound at church and my home studio but have had no formal training so had a lot of room for improvement. Instant help in identifying problem frequencies.

Well designed, simple, effective app. This is a great little ear training app for learning how to listen critically to EQ adjustments. I bought both the pink noise add-on and the advanced mode add-on. I'm finding it really helpful to train my ears on pink noise, then practice on musical material. The developer apparently welcomes user feedback and has made improvements based on user suggestions, which is always a plus in my book. Well worth the price!

This app is great!. This is one of the best ways to improve your ability to recognize frequencies. PERIOD! It’s accurate and affordable! My only complaint is that it’s not available for computers.😔

Right to the point. Love it.. Does exactly what it is intended for while keeping it simple and bug free. I especially like using songs from my own library for the learning process and the quizzes. Edit: i have one request for the developer. Please allow the quiz to go beyond 10 questions so that i can enjoy songs from my library all the way through. I would pay extra to unlock a feature like that. That's how much of a difference i think it'll make in the experience.

Great EQ training and easy to use. I love this app for training ears to hear frequencies

Great Ear Training Tool. I'm relatively new to EQing, I stumbled across this tool and I'm glad I did. It's a great way to become familiar with the various frequency ranges and what they sound like, within the context of your favorite music installed on your device. Fun & educational!

I think I’m having a problem. I just purchased this app hoping to use it with my personal Apple Music library but something doesn’t seem to be working. Does this app not work with Apple Music streaming? Only about 3 songs from my Apple Music library are showing up. I’m very confused and would really like the app to work as it should. Any developer help?

Great. Love this app. I'm still a beginner but this is what I was looking for. Charging for pink noise seems like a bit of a money grab when you can just put it in your music library. Still, it's great.

Best on the app store. Love the UI and the 30 band feature. (Wish they had a Q option though)

Best thing ever happened to me!. Must buy for any serious musicians.

Helpful ear training tool. Once I figured out the game, this app is a cool way for you to learn how to recognize what certain frequencies sound like from songs of your own choosing. Super cool!

This is amazing. Hey Alex + the whole dev team, this is some seriously awesome work and a great joy to use. It’s helping me out a ton. Thank you for helping make my life and the life of all the musicians and engineers out there that much better. Recommending this to all my music tech classmates!

The best. Every once in a while I remember how awesome this app is and curse myself for not practicing with it more! Essential skill training for mixers, producers, and music directors.

Great support interesting results. Firstly I had some settings on my iPad and I couldn't get any songs up, once I sorted that out with support from heareq it worked fine. I am surprised how bad I am at recognising frequencies and am glad I got this app. Hopefully I will improve.

Once you get u work out how to use it, it's fun.. Took 10 min to understand how it works. What's wrong with having some instructions................. Do you need to guess the missing frequency by correcting it (or) do you choose the missing frequency. Once you work this out the app is ok I guess. A great app makes sense an average one wastes your time writing reviews like this......

Absolutely an Essential app for training your Ears. As a musician ear training is perhaps one of the most overlooked steps on the learning curve. To really achieve a professional sound, having sharp ears is crucial. The problem is it's usually not fun, and can get pain-stakingly boring. I'm grateful for coming across this app as it makes ear training fun, simple and very effective. Build this into your daily routine, and you will reap the results in no time. PS. Would really like to see an add-on feature for 1/3 octaves for complete mastery of the frequency spectrum!

Misleading. Bought a burger and had to pay extra for the patty and even more to have condiments. I bought this app thinking it would be usable right away but you have to pay an additional $2.79 for pink noise generation and another $2.79 to enable all frequency bands. If anything the developers should have made the pink noise standard and charged the additional fee to use your own music as the former is standard in any ear training product and not everyone loads mp3's on their phones. App does what it says but the way it is marketed leaves a sour taste. Obviously not relying on repeat customers.

Inccurate & you have to pay even more for the full version. The cue width at which the cuts and boosts of the EQ are set to is far too wide. As an audio engineer and someone who has used other ear training apps, I don’t find this app accurate or helpful. Not to mention it’s $8.50 and you still have to pay to get the full version. What a ripoff!

Nice learning touch. Good program to learn by ear the frequency changes on an equalizer

fun way to learn how to eq. app is smooth, fun, intuitive. makes learning a tedious and precise task easier! great refresher even if you've been doing it for years!

Guess the EQ. This test checks to see if you can spot the change in EQ. I started off scoring 2 out 10 questions correctly. I stayed with for about 15 minutes and soon I was scoring 5 out of 10 questions correctly. This does work and what’s more it focuses on my inability to correctly answer low EQ questions correctly. Most questions that were high-frequency based I could spot fast, but low-frequency based questions I still struggle with so that’s important feedback for me. Tells me which area of the frequency spectrum where I need to pay attention. Great product!

Love the update!. By far the best new feature is being able to see the correct answer if I've guessed wrong! Can't learn without feedback!

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Search up “Technical Ear Trainer” there’s a free site that does everything this does but better and with more features. No purchases no crap. The only downside is that it only works on laptop, but it’s soooo much better.

A very useful and fun/easy to use app!. As a pianist and student of auditory science, I found hearEQ to be a one-of-a-kind app that helped me learn more about music, train my musical ear, and even blow off steam a lot more productively and uniquely than many other apps out there! I strongly recommend hearEQ to anyone with any interest in music or sound.

Great tool for training. I really like this tool for learning each frequency. If I could add one thing it would be "finding the feedback frequency". Would love to see it added to this app.

Great Ear Training For Frequency. Great app for learning to tune in to frequency ranges.

Nice app!. Simple and effective. Good training tool

Great. Makes listening to rad tunes educational for my ears. Though the pink noise add on is really the best. Everyone should get it!

Great App. Great app for those who struggle with learning and identifying frequencies. It is extremely helpful for learning how to identify frequency problems, and is pretty fun at the same time.

Best music app I own. Finally a great frequency-based ear training app. Buy the in-app purchases. Totally worth every dollar.

Just starting. Just started with one frequency but I think it is a great app and will improve ear to hear the mix better. I have been using headphones but can't wait to test it on mixer at church

Great simple app.. Very effective and great for practice. This app will really help you understand frequency instead of guessing.

Just wonderful. This is a great way to hone you ear. Such a well done app.

DOWNLOAD IT. I hardly ever write reviews but I just bought a subscription to a different training website and it offers sort of the same thing but cost me $24 a month. This app is so amazing

No guided lessons. 5-stars for the idea but 2-stars for the implementation. I thought there would be guided lessons but it's simply an EQ toy box you can play with (listening to source material) and then design your own quizzes 😒 Would be a 5-star app if it had guided lessons and a ladder of set test material to build knowledge and confidence.

Good for ear training. It doesn't seem to dive deep into small band width but it's good to train your ears to know where in the spectrum your issues are happening

Helpful. I go to school for audio engineering and I find this a helpful and entertaining, if not a tiny bit simple, app for ear training.

Amazing App!. @highandmightybrass

Hear eq. No Spotify support! Can I get a refund!?

Gr8 resource. Helpful tool to start to understand EQ!

This app is something special.. Exactly what I needed to develop my ear for EQ!!!

Works great but watch out on your headphone volume. It's a great simple app to improve your understanding and recognition of different frequency areas. I'd recommend this app to any of my peers or students but along with a headphone warning. When doing a quiz the app will reset your headphone volume to a previous level. Meaning that if you're planning on doing some HearEQ and scale your volume down to half, but you were listening to YouTube or something at 90% volume, even if you dial it down before starting a quiz, it will hit you at that 90% volume again when you start the quiz. It can be very unexpected and has cause many a jump-scare. Other than that it's helped me out a lot! This turned out to be an operating system issue and not the app. The dev is super on top of things too so an extra kudos for that as well.

Great Challenge. I enjoy it + it does what I want it to.

Great app!. App really helps train the ear on frequencies

Great! The only thing..... This is a really good app for any sound engineer that needs more practice in identifying levels of certain frequencies. The cool thing is that you can select songs from your music, BUT, I wonder if there’s a way to grant access to the selection of Spotify music? That is the app I use most for music. Other than that, it is a clear, precise, and extremely helpful tool in developing sharp ears for sound engineers.

Amazingly fun for learning EQ. It does what it says. So far it's fun and I feel that I am learning to recognize EQ levels very easily. Great app and worth the price.

Need pink noise too. Great sound training for audio engineers. Would be good to add a feature for drills using pink noise.
