Short rides are rewarded credits and longer rides subtract credits once the bikes have been re-docked. Shanghai planned to expand to 3,500 Bicycle Hot Spots throughout the entire city by 2010.
Two years after the World Expo, Shanghai's bicycle sharing programme has been mostly limited to the Minhang district.
