Does the job. This app does everything that it should. My problems are with the layout and how clunky the operation is. For example, I run an STR-DN1080 and often run zone 2 speakers. I hate how hard it is to get to control the volume for that zone. I have to open my phone, open the app, select the zone then adjust the volume. The zone 2 options should be right up front with everything else. Also don’t like that there isn’t an EQ for zone 2, but this probably has more to do with the stereo. It’s also odd how the settings are at the bottom of the page when this is an item selected more than the source. In the end this app holds the monopoly on Sony connectivity, does everything it needs to do but is clunky to use. It’s creation is certainly only to serve the app market but didn’t have much thought out into it. This app is definitely not a selling point of their products.

Not a bad app if you know how to get around it. I feel that most of the bad reviews are written by those that are not to technology educated. It’s not a very hard app to get around in...you are able to change the display, audio settings, music apps, and much more the from the app itself. Very easy way to fine tune the audio in my opinion plus a great way to customize its display which honestly is all you need.

what happened?. I began using this app in 2015 when I purchased an STR-DH750 so I have seen my fair share of software updates. This app had its quirks but otherwise functioned enough to make it useful. Now the app takes longer to load the features, if they show up at all. I had to open several times to fully load. Also bring back dark theme! The organization of the functions could use a refresh. A volume button on every page would be useful. It feels like this app is now an just after thought in the realm of Sony.

The app is extremely broken. I bought a bass boosted speaker. The speaker itself is probably the best I’ve bought but the music center seems to be the controller for it. I have my speaker connected to my phone and I’m playing music but the app thinks I’m not connected and refuses to let me control it. I’m currently laying in my bed while my speaker is on its full fledge race lighting mode. This isn’t the first time I’ve had to do this and I might return the speaker. I’ll probably have another night without and another day with it’s battery being wasted on lights instead of used on music. I hope this app will be fixed soon

Some decent instructions would help. Great speakers. App is isn’t too bad once you figure it out. Instructions are worthless. All I wanted was to have two SRS-XB21’s play stereo. After a couple days of frustration I figured out you had to press the ADD buttons in the back of both speakers where the power plugs in. Then the magic Speaker Add option appeared in Music Center and I was able to edit the group to play stereo. Boom. Works great.

Good riddance. Dropped support for receiver. In today’s market, customer experience *is* the brand, even more than features or price. Sony used to know that. I bought the STR-DN1050 because I could control it with my phone. After a quick “Update all” on iPhone apps and SongPal was useless. I have a degree in computer science and know it’s not rocket science to support multiple interfaces for backward compatibility, *especially* for an army of loyal customers. Sony, you think this is going to push us to purchase new receivers? LOL. Your influence in consumer electronics is shrinking and this is just another example of the acceleration downward. I’m exhausted being screwed by companies selling products that don’t work as marketed - or sneaky/aggressive product support decisions. Good riddance.

It’s been 2 mins since update. The speakers are so good but the way this app functions makes the experience not worth it. Every time you want to use the speakers it always goes back to default settings and have to set up the sub treb and others again and then the app... the app won’t even recognize my speakers 90 percent of the time, maybe even 95 percent . Literally playing my music through Bluetooth on the speakers and the app still will not recognize the speakers. Good thing the speakers come with a remote, although it doesn’t have all the buttons for settings... if it didn’t the speakers would just be a big paper weight -_- And there isn’t even have web version. THIS APP’S ONLY FUNCTION IS TO CONTROL THE SETTINGS OF THE SPEAKERS

Bare Mininum. Interface: The interface looks like it hasn’t been updated since 2015… It would be nice if they made a universal iOS/iPad version too. HomeKit: The app adds HomeKit support for the HT7000 soundbar. It would be nice if it added support for turning the soundbar on and off, and changing sources from within HomeKit (mostly for automations). AirPlay: The app adds AirPlay support for the soundbar, but it is finicky. Sometimes it’ll start playing with no sound. To troubleshoot this, I’d have to turn off the soundbar, turn back on, then try again.

Just annoying.... I just bought the srs xb31 for $150, I love the speaker but you must have the app running and Bluetoothed in order to use any extra features.... ok that’s ok if it actually would work 1/4 if the time. It’s always losing its sync and goes to default. There’s a party mode where you can bang on the speaker to play drums and stuff and I love it! Gives you something to tap while listening to music but half 75% of the time the app doesn’t recognize the device even when I’m still playing music, so I have to close the app, turn bt off and on, reconnect because it doesn’t try to automatically, then go into the app crossing my fingers, and half the time it shows 3 extra speakers saying “need to be setup” but still doesn’t connect to mine.... so repeat. Finally have it working and your settings ready to go!? Well have fun when you lock your phone and go back into the app because it’s unsynced again... and just a helpful tip, don’t lock your phone while in the app, eventually you’ll have to restart your phone to even get it to work because it bugs out.... the quality of the speaker is what I expected with Sony but the app really ruins their reputation with me if I see “extra features in app”. Recommend the speaker if you just want good sound and bass, but don’t recommend it if you was wanting to use the extra features of the speaker and if that’s you deciding factor between $150 and another good speaker with as good quality for $60...

Not at all what I expected from Sony. I’m running this application on the iPhone XS MAX, so I know it’s not the phone but the application that keeps on having problems. You have to re-sync and do the Bluetooth process constantly just to be able to keep using the sounds setting and other features that the app has to offer. I bought and SB41 speaker and while the speaker is of great quality I can’t process why the app is so unreliable. For such a known company it should at least be able to serve the most basic functions. Come on Sony just invest in this at least a fraction of what you’re now investing in marketing!

Trouble in the treble! Needs improvement!. The speaker itself, is great. However, the functionality of the app needs improvement. While it’s great that I’m able to adjust the equalizer settings for the bass and mid range and will notice the difference thereafter, there is absolutely no difference or effect when adjusting the treble.. why??? Has anyone else experienced this? I’m not able to increase the treble and decreasing it makes no difference as well. Anyone else having this issue???

Literally out here. Recently purchased XB21. Amazing speaker, especially in live mode. I don’t know how it manages to throw sound behind you but it does. As for the app, I feel like it was halfway developed or isn’t syncd up to the latest demands of the newest phone OS updates. The steps are clear and concise for setting up but won’t let you continue on to the next step until the current process is done..which is weird because you can’t even finish step 2. After trying a few setups it finally budged and paired with the phone.

App insists that I should update speaker software, but fails. I have the SRS-XB43. The app tells me that I should update the speaker software. So I said ok, go ahead and do it. It then tells me that I need to plug in the power and charge the speaker sufficiently. The problem is that the speaker is already plugged in and charged to 100% battery level. The app is straight up refusing to update the speaker. Very frustrating. Also, I wish Sony would pay a native English speaker to verify documentation and messages. I am used to seeing funny English from products purchased from a fly by night Chinese operation. But I expect a little more effort from Sony.

Run away!. I’ve been able to get the speakers to painter and a part in chain mode as they said you can do. I bought an XB 20 and an XB 21 they will not party chain together one shuts off the other one turns on then the other one shuts off and the other one turns on it constantly disconnects from one and reconnect to the other but never plays the two together I have read the instructions several times I have looked online to try and find a way to make them work together as they are described because even on Sony‘s website it says that they are fully compatible together and even gives instructions of how to connect an XP 21 to another XP 21 and I was not even able to do that do not buy the Sony speakers and do not get this app, unless you only buy one speaker in which case one speaker works fine all by itself.

Great Speaker AWFUL App. This is my first ever app review...that’s how frustrating this app is. This app seems like it’s a “use once and trash” app. It only works the first time I open it. If I open it a second time it seems to lose connection with the app, even though the speaker itself is still connected. I subsequently have to delete and then download the app again. It’s especially frustrating because in order to adjust some of the features on the speaker (ex. Lights) I have to delete and download the app constantly. It essentially makes those features useless due to the impracticality of trying to use them. Strongly considering returning the speaker.

Still garbage. Wouldn’t have bought speakers if I knew. Checking in almost a year after first purchase. App is still garbage. Basic functions continue to fail. No idea what all these monthly updates are for, literally nothing has gotten better. App still crashes every other time I try to connect to a device. Forget party chain. If you ever get it working, which is rare, leave the app and don’t return, or it will crash. If this app represents Sony, they have fallen a long, long way. I would never have bought these speakers if I knew this app was required. Their failure to address major problems in over a year shows they just don’t care. UPDATE: Another year gone, and this app continues to get worse. I have no idea what updates they are making, but they obviously don’t read these reviews or bother to test their app in the least. I can almost never pair speakers correctly, and when they do pair, the volume on each gets reset after each song. Most of the time the app just fails to work properly so it doesn’t matter. I have 3 speakers, all of which are great individually, but this app is so, so, so terrible. Any 2+ star reviews are either from company employees or people who haven’t actually used this app. Update: 4 years later and nothing has changed. Still the worst app ever published.

The worst app in the App Store. I’ve never written a review before, but this app is so bad, I feel compelled to warn other would be buyers of Sony receivers to avoid this situation. I need this app for one primary function, which is to control my Sony receivers remotely, via my phone, primarily to stream music and it can’t even do that. This app can’t connect to either of my receivers via wifi and does so only sporadically via Bluetooth. I have dozens of connected devices in my home and this is literally the only one that doesn’t work. If wifi controlled music streaming is important to you, I would avoid this app and all Sony connected receivers at all costs.

Works for me, but…. I use the new ES AVR for 5.1 and a Zone 2 pair in my Kitchen. The app is primarily for Zone 2, as the remote IR codes really don’t work well, a problem I never had with Denon or Yamaha receivers. But the STRAZ3000ES is a fabulous unit, so I am content to use network connectivity for Z2. I can select inputs, radio presets, and volume/muting after choosing the zone first. My only issue is that opening the app automatically powers the main zone on, and that the zone power buttons are in an unobvious location. If you only want Z2 to operate, it is very clunky to turn off the main zone and return to Z2 control without unintentionally restarting the main zone. Fixable but annoying.

Astonished. This app is ridiculously broken, you'd think that with a company like Sony they'd be able to make a decent functioning app for their products that cost in the triple digits. I Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they had some college student design this app. How many updates has this app had? Yet how does it still not work? And why is the interface so poor? Sony, you are on the NYSE. You're one of tech's giants, yet somehow in 2019 you can't manage a simple app. I'd leave zero stars if I could. please fix the bugs and redo the entire interface. nobody that has a phone capable of installing apps needs to access their library or streaming platforms via the app--please remove this the entire aspect is pointless. if somebody is going to download your app, it's to customize the settings, not to play music on apps that they ALREADY have installed. This app doesn't have to do much. Just fix the issue where the settings you select won't stay permanent! They only work when the app is open or recently used. Like I said, there are issues present in this app that it's like they assigned this to an intern. Sorry to the intern that made this app, but I'd leave zero stars if I could. 5/5 stars for the product though.

The app is unsafe. The pop up the comes up In my iPhone every time I start my car is a unsafe unwelcome distraction. I have disable it in notifications and yet it still comes up every time. As you can tell it’s annoying I have tried to disable it to no avail. Why not just allow it to open in the background when connected it doesn’t need permission and a human response every time. The app does help with setting up my radio settings but other wise I wouldn’t use it.

App is like a virus which ruins your speakers. Once you install this app and pair with your speaker, it cripples the speaker. What used to be an excellent Bluetooth speaker that any device could connect to now ONLY WORKS if you have the app running on your phone. No sound comes out of the speaker until you open the app. Which means the speaker is now permananetly rendered mostly worthless. Friends coming over and want to show you some music? Sorry only works with the app now. This seems to be irreversible once you pair with the app. Speaker basically permanently ruined. Do now download this app!

This app will force you to cuss. I often wonder if the people who create apps actually even use them, because if they did, they would have made changes already. The EQ sliders are an utter joke — and that's when you finally find them buried in the menus. You can tap to switch from Bluetooth to audio in, USB in, and optical in — but you can't tap to go back to Bluetooth. You have to get up and walk to the device, and tap the Bluetooth button to enable Bluetooth again. I wish they'd update the user interface.

Cannot See Wired Receiver (Anymore). Sony, what is wrong with you? My Yamaha app is the perfect supplement to that receiver. An old version of your app use to be annoying because it would turn on my Sony wired network stereo every time the app was active, but at least it works! This version, it makes me connect to the receiver via bluetooth, which is not only worthless because my receiver is in the basement, but then it changes my source and stops the music every time! Then, I go to network setup and the app changes my receiver to WiFi and screws up my static IP and network settings. Just make this work if you ever want to sell me another receiver.

Wake Up Sony. Sony’s SongPal app stopped supporting my AV receiver STR-DN1050 about 3 years ago. It is only one model behind current DN1080 and previous version of app supported it. Technically there is no reason for Sony to stop supporting the previous model except they want to force users to buy newer model. SongPal app always had horrible performance still it was possible to make setting changes through app. On top of it, they don’t even bother to respond to the reviews on App Store. I can attribute this behavior to poor leadership of the company. Wake up Sony, consumers have choices in market with much better customer service and better or compatible hardware.

The most annoying app I’ve ever used.. This App is so bad that I’m considering returning both of my Sony GTK-XB60 speakers because of it. It somewhat works if you have only one speaker, but it will drive you absolutely mad when trying to group for stereo use. EVERY time you leave the premises and Bluetooth disconnects, the speakers don’t reconnect as a stereo group or even remember their previous settings. The speakers revert back to an annoying default of Rave mode lighting, which will send you into a 1970s disco epileptic seizure. Then when you go in, try to reconnect, the regroup fails 9 times out of 10 times after taking 10 minutes of hour glass wait times to get to the appropriate screen. If anyone should write a functional app for these speakers please let me know. I will gladly buy it!!

Works nice. Using app with an srs-xb30. It's works great. Lights and strobe can be easily adjusted. Also like that the equalizer can be adjusted with the app because the speaker had the bass just a bit too high, but adjusting with the app made the sound even better. Would give a 5 star review but I don't like having to pair everytime I'm trying to use the speaker. It would be nice if they put a battery display on the app so I don't have to push the button on the speaker to check the remaining battery charge.

Sync issues. I have two xb-20 speakers and for the most part work as intended with the app - however - occasionally the speakers will lose their sync - usually if I turn them on and don’t play music within 2 to 3 minutes - then I have to remove them from Bluetooth , delete the app, reset the speakers to default and then add everything again - rarely, when trying to put them in a group again the app goes haywire and can’t figure out how to group the speakers so i have to remove them from Bluetooth etc...

The app is atrociously bad, almost ruined a party. My new Sony SRS-XB21 Extra Bass wireless speakers are fantastic. Sony knows great sound better than anyone. This app that controls them however, is atrociously bad. Bought 3 of these speakers specifically for a party I hosted and this app alone almost ruined the whole night. Extremely clumsy and complicated to add other identical sony wireless speakers to it, called a “party chain” which takes at least ten minutes, and multiple dead ends through the app. Once they’re connected, all is good. But then try doing the same thing hours later, with the exact same speakers and the exact same app and you have to go through the whole process again, from scratch, which is insane. Also the app won’t let you “rename” the speakers (e.g. “living room,” “kitchen” “dining room”, etc), so if you buy 3 or 4 wireless speakers and they’re the same color, they’re all labeled “SRS-XB21” in your phone so you have no idea which is in what room. Also you can’t control volume of individual speakers through the app (like Sonos), you have to manually control the volume on individual speakers. Had to uninstall and reinstall the app it each time I had to set them up (3 total times) which was the only fix that worked. SRS-XB21 Extra Bass speakers themselves: 5 stars Sony Music Center App: Zero stars

sony music center. great app!! have been using it about two years. it is a fabulous assisstant. still needs to grow especially when it comes to app user experience, like not searching eveytime the device to connect, which is sometimes time consuming , specifically when u are in the app and it is connected to ur devices but by turning any pages ,u find it searching again! other than that, it is my music app for wonderfulllll SONY world.❤️

Misleading labels. I recently had my Sony Speaker stolen and while getting the appropriate information for the cop, I realized the serial number cannot be found anywhere on the even though I "registered" my speaker on the app. After searching the web and the app, I come to realize that "registered" really meant "add new device". I usually do my best to registered my products with their companies for moments like this, but poor wording has screwed me over. I would recommend changing the wording or actually register the device with our official Sony account.

Useless!. The only things I’ll ever buy from Sony are their PlayStation game consoles and their cameras. They don’t stand by their products no matter how good they are. This lame app is proof of that; it basically rendered two great sounding speakers useless. I also had to buy another sound bar that I didn’t have to keep reconnecting every time I wanted to use it in conjunction with these speakers. I was unable to use the speakers by themselves to listen to music, because of this app not connecting- or staying connected. There’s no reason why this app should be the only way to connect to their wireless speakers.

Just garbage for use with Sony Receivers. This app may well work with wireless speakers and the like, but for control of Sony receivers, well…it just doesn’t work, at all. I have their current top-of-the-line STR-AZ7000ES, overpriced like all Sony stuff for comparable items from other manufacturers, but the extra cost certainly doesn’t help the consumer at all. Every other receiver manufacturer I’ve used (Yamaha primarily of late), the connection to their app just works. With Sony, it’s impossible to even get the app to find the receiver, whether through Bluetooth or network. The receiver itself is connected to the network, and yes, the same 5GHz network that my phone with the app is using, but the app just doesn’t see it. And the receiver connects with no problems to Bluetooth, but, alas, the app still sees nothing. Sony got really lazy by attempting to make an all-in-one app, but it’s utter useless garbage. I’ve found absolutely zero people online who have been able to connect any of the ES receiver line to the app. Part of the problem is it makes Sony’s already useless instructions and troubleshooting pages too generic and even more useless, instead of being written for the device you’re using (and in the case of the STR-AZ7000ES, paid a lot of money for).

It’s the best all in one speaker in the market. In this 2024, it will provide all the needs for us music lovers who like to listen to faithful music, since it has CD, MP3, FM/AM, Bluetooth, aux, karaoke, microphone, guitar's, and aux. It's everything anyone could ask for in a good speaker, LEDs, music, party lights, and the best thing is that I can connect it with my app on my iPhone and control everything within reach of my phone. one of the best in Sony party speaker. I love him

Can’t check the privacy policy box to even use the app!. IPhone X cannot get past the privacy policy. Read it, re read it, read it again. Still can’t check the little box to allow me into the app. I’m a private person so I get the need for a privacy policy. I have privacy policy for using the restroom thought it isn’t written so I don’t have a check box, but if I did have a written policy, my check box WOULD WORK! But the door would still be locked to I guess this analogy doesn’t really fit this situation. All I’m saying is that rather than sitting here writing a crappy review (get it?) I COULD be using my SONY app. Please fix this Sh!t.

Great app, great speakers, wish they made a sub. I run 4 SRS x99 speakers, 1 SRS x88 and a couple SRS HG1s with this app. I can play music on them all at the same time. I prefer to stream over WiFi to the speakers for the full wireless room experience. I can not only control the volume and EQ of each speaker individually, but I can also play a different song on each speaker at the same time or group speakers together. Right now I am listening to the same song through the entire house. If you want a wireless multi room experience, this is it. You can play high resolution files on it and it will tell you if the file high resolution.

The result?!?!!!!!. This app helps u better understand the software and the full extent of ur Sony speaker /‘s , to connecting to other speakers to going live sound the extra base Sony speaker is what I connect and use, the app is sleek, and appealing but overall very easy to use by controller for your speaker at the tap off the screen and could also be for others it’s all up to u and how far u want the next generation off sound to be suited to ur needs to studio set ups to a coffee table sitting curb side this app helps u connect to ur speaker in the most efficient way possible.

Much easier on mobile that the HTML GUI, lacks some advanced setup features. I would like the App to have an advanced section for the Sony AZ5000ES. It nice to make changes without taking over the TV and Music, which the handheld remote requires. The App allows changes without that limitation. However, the advanced features need to be done either via the HTML GUI (and my router keeps reassigning the IP) or the remote. I wish the App was the one stop full control. But, for day to day use, it is great for controlling the receiver.

Zone 2. Each time I switch to zone 2, the app crashes. It’s made the speakers I have in that zone worthless. I purchased the Sony receiver specifically to enable an easy user experience with the historically high quality that Sony brings. I’m very disappointed by the app. It’s causing me to rethink whether I want to own this brand going forward. The issue has been reported; please fix this ASAP!

App is the perfect 20th century solution to a 21st century problem. The speakers are great. Sony knows sound, no doubt. But the app is absurdly complex and full of friction points. -why can’t I name a speaker group (maybe like: yard party)? Or an individual speaker (like Dan’s XG-300)? We were left with 4 identical speakers that we could not tell apart in the app. -If the speakers don’t belong to the grouping app owner and software updates are needed, the whole process grinds down until the speaker owner updates that speaker? C’mon, we are just grouping already functioning speakers for cryin’ out loud. -Party Connect process is just as clumsy. Spent an hour trying to calibrate (must control individual speaker sound on the speaker itself?) and add other Sony speakers brought to my house by friends. It seriously felt like working with 2001 software, complete with ungraceful actions that provided little or no accurate feedback as we worked through the app. Like software written by folks who never even tried it for themselves before inflicting it on us. The four of us (an engineer, a product designer and two quality process managers) wasted far too much time on what should have been simple, quick and frictionless. With Bluetooth 5, there is no excuse for all the clunkiness,Sony. Do better!

Suggestions. Could you please make it so that this app does not instantly turn my receiver on? Sometimes I forget to close the app and if I bring the app to the front, then it turns on my stereo which I want to stay off. Also, you need to improve connectivity. I am not usually much of a phone/app guy, but for my whole house audio system which is a few remotely controlled stereos, the Yamaha has you far beat because it always sees the stereo with no delay. I’ve always loved Sony, but this is an important fix you need to make if you want my next stereo (s) to be Sony.

Please enable access to “Display” button data for ST5000. It would be great if this app would show the “Display” button info (LPCM, number of audio channels, kHz, etc.) for the ST5000. When viewing content in 4K with Enhanced format HDMI, the Display and Options buttons don’t work because the soundbar is unable to overlay the on screen display while in that mode. Getting access to that information in this app would be a great workaround. I currently use this app to adjust the a/v sync settings while in Enhanced format HDMI because that setting is not accessible from the soundbar itself unless I switch back to Standard format HDMI.

Replacing Sony deck because this app is horrible. I purchase a really nice Sony deck for my car and have regretted it every day because of this ap. I made that purchase almost two years ago and I am astounded by the lack of attention Sony has given to improving the app and making it functional. Every time I turn the car off and restart it I have manually connect my phone with the app. There is no way to do this automatically and it drives me nuts. I have purchased a different brand of deck for two other vehicles and they work perfectly and automatically connect. With the requirement to drive and use hands free calling I am going to replace my Sony deck and get a third deck from “other brand”. Not going to ever look at a Sony deck again. You had your chance and two years later I am not waiting any longer for you to realize that customer experiences matter. Good bye.

Dj effects poor. Just got the Sony GTX-XB7 and it’s amazing. However app is very poorly made. Dj effects only allow one effect to be used at a time (flanger, isolates, wah). Also those are the only 3 options. On Sony’s website the picture of the dj effects is different than on my iPhone. It seems on there website you can have multiple effects in one menu and can use them all. Other than these effects there is no reason for the app besides connecting your speaker to your phone, which u can do anyways in Bluetooth settings. App is in great need for an update to make customers happy with available options that are on there website but not on the app.

Awesome app!. Many people that have left a comment on this app end up giving it 2 stars or 1, they always complain of how it stops music videos or just the music and unpairs the speakers. This app has always worked well for me and to my SRS-XB41. Everything works as it should. The other people should just go and get an Ihome, it works splendidly. Ihome has the same app... only for Ihome speakers. Both are goo apps and speakers company.

Getting better. I have an STR-DN106 A/V receiver that I bought a number of years ago and didn't even know there was an app I could use until a little over a year ago. At first the app was useless, would consistently drop connection when it would connect which was only about 1/4 of the time. I started using it recently again and it has been a lot better. The receiver controls sound in multiple rooms and sits in a cabinet so it’s nice to have such easy access to the controls. I would have been much more frustrated if the app was required for the options. It’s come a long way but there’s still room for improvement. This app has the potential to be a great value added to Sony products but only if they’re able to improve its quality.

I can help with the privacy issue.. I had the same problem at first with not being able to check mark the privacy button. But since I have had allot of Sony products and software, I knew that they expect you to read the entire privacy policy in total. Even after I read it in total, I still had to give it several more tries before it worked. They must have a timer on it. I hope this helps everyone to get the app up and running. Thanks

The app and the speakers are definitely 2 different things. A lot of these reviews are the same—speakers are great but the app is not. I agree. I have xb31 and xb32s—using party chain became a challenge because of the chain got broken, I had to disconnect all the speakers, forget them, then repair—even if the party chain worked with the same speakers. Once I got it fully working, I kept having to relevel the volumes on the speakers after a while—the leveling out didn’t work at all. Luckily I only had 4 to maintain during a party and not more or it could have caused the music to fail altogether. The speakers are phenomenal. The app is almost a dealbreaker because it makes them seem glitchy. These speakers have been marketed with this feature and it just doesn’t work well enough to be reliable. I hope that Sony fixes this soon—it’s enough to cause me to question the brand.

How to put XB21 into double/stereo modeo. Instead of just repeating what everyone else wrote about the app (which is all true), let me tell you the steps to put XB21 (and similar?) speakers into double or stereo mode. #1) Do not follow their instructions. #2) Download this app but do not open. #3) Take the first speaker and turn it on. #4) Press and Hold Power Button. The Bluetooth icon will flash quickly. #5) Go to your General Settings, click Bluetooth (will show SRS-XB21 at the bottom), and wait until it has connected. The speaker will also give you a 2-tone beep. Note, other Sony speakers may have a Bluetooth button. #6) Click on the blue ‘i’ circle beside the connected speaker (on your Bluetooth settings on your phone) and disconnect it. #7) Follow steps #3-5 to add additional speaker. Disconnect from bluetooth additional speaker you just added and click connect on first speaker. #8) Go to the app. Agree to their terms of service, etc. #9) You should see a speaker at top. Click to Edit Speaker Group. It will take you to another screen and should show you the second speaker you added. #10) Click to Add speakers. This will link them into double mode. From there you can change them to Stereo if you want via the Edit Group button.

Sony FFS Fire whoever is supposed to make this app work. My god this app is atrociously broken. I’m trying to party chain two of my speakers and it’s a nightmare doing so. It’s a 5 minute process trying to find the other speaker (which is connect leas that 10 feet away) and it has trouble doing that. After that, some unknown error happens and the process restarts all over again. Then when the group is even made (which as a heads up, you apparently got to make the group again EVERY TIME you use the app), the speakers will either play static, disconnect, or even sync the music so badly one of the speakers is a second slower than the other. You would think that a big name like Sony would be competent enough to make a working music app, all their competitors have no problem doing so. Whoever made the app this bad should be thrown over a cliff for making something more broken than Sonic 06.

Apps are just disappointing. I bought the GTKXB60 and the settings on the app are just disappointing. The speakers great but this app and the fiestable app are just childish. Make these a little more advanced and not so crappy. Also, PLEASE make the lighting options better. Both these apps are just trash compared to the speaker. Also, just a heads up but if you change the light settings on either app you’re stuck with those options. I personally thought the factory light settings were great, but you can’t change back to those if you change any light settings in the apps. Even tried resetting the speaker multiple times and multiple ways.

Works great. I don’t know why everyone is complaining that it doesn’t work. Maybe it’s just their trash speakers that they’re trying to connect to. I have the HT-M77 & every single feature works perfectly fine with this app.

Good app. App works well would be better if it connected automatically to my car radio

Needs faster connectivity. It’s a great app when connected. But if I switch the app or open it after a few minutes it takes a long time to connect or it doesn’t show the volume bar. I have to restart the app. Surely Sony knows this but hasn’t fixed it. Please fix connectivity. Else its a great app if connected.

quality. guys the latest update has made things worse, I can’t even switch from any zone other than main or the app crashes so I can’t even use my zone 2 at the moment.. not happy!! and there is still no eq on anything but main zone either! fix it please

Needs a refresh. Having used this app for quite a long period of time and now using it for a Sony AVR I think it’s long overdue for an refresh and update. Be good to see more options available for settings etc.

Need support for Sony SRS XB13. I know this product is new but please add them to the app as soon as possible so I can use the app on its full potential. At the moment it does not detect the app via Bluetooth even when I constantly pair the speaker and re install the app. Please fix this issue as soon as possible.

Rubbish, works 1/5 times.. Once upon a time I would just restart the app and my speaker would show up again instantly. Now I can’t get past the loading the speaker part. Just loads for half hour with nothing coming up. All I want to do is turn the bass back on from normal but it’s impossible.

Useless. Either this app, or the speaker I paid $500 for are useless for managing music over a network. Best bet, plug your iPhone into the back of your high definition speaker, with a cord. I’ve bought my last Sony product....

Sony needs to remove the 17+ age rating. It doesn’t work with parental controls due to the 17+ age rating restriction. Very good app otherwise. Except my speaker has recently stopped turning itself off after 15 mins of non-use.

functional but trash in some ways. I use this with my XB41 speaker which is great BUT clear audio+ enables by itself when I've customised the equaliser and it's done this ever since I've had the speaker (about a year now) and it isn't fixed???? maybe that's something to look into. otherwise it isn't TERRIBLE.

Works somehow ... but expected far better.. Connectivity is the big problem ... it just doesn’t connect sometimes. Interface is very cumbersome. Switched to Sonos and don’t look back.

Sony SRS-XB23. Was put off by all the negative comments in the App Store and online, and almost did not purchase the Sony speaker, but I’m a Sony gal and Sony has not failed me yet. Went with brand loyalty and glad I did. App works perfectly. Connection is seamless. Works great with Apple Music on the iPhone 12 mini. My SRS-XB23 is now my little party dude.

Sony music centre. Zero stars. Only have this on one IPad, says up to 6 family member sharing . but won't let me download to 2nd iPad. First iPad died. Didn’t transfer through with other apps through cloud setup on new iPad. Totally disgusted, so now I can only use my brand new speaker playing cds.....very disappointed.....so much for technology. If I could leave stars blank I would give you a big fat zero!

Sony app won’t connect to Sony Device!. Had to get a new iphone handset. Brand new. He app won’t recognise my SONY Home theatre system as a device in the speaker group, even though it’s connected via Bluetooth AND PLAYING MUSIC THROUGH THE APP ! Still works perfectly on an older handset!

Experiencing bad sound quality after pairing (started recently). I havent used the pairing (party) option for sometime. I have 2 speakers SRS xb31 and xb41. Recently when i started pairing the speakers together, the sound quality becomes very mediocre. I am sure it happened after the last few updates. Please fix it. The Bass is okay, but various other instruments such as percussions and vocals kind of cracks down. It is like a “Hissing” sound.

Unfinished App. I love how songs that don’t even exist appear in my library, and give me an error informing me that they don’t exist if I tap them, and there is no way to remove them. It’s also pretty great that it’s completely random which of the songs that do exist actually appear in the library (and yes they are all drm free, supported formats that should appear). Sony’s DAPS are excellent, it’s a shame they don’t put even a single percent of the same effort into their apps.

Sony is an utter disgrace. This app, which has never been great, is now completely useless. Couple this with the appalling customer service I endured after my 12 month old MHC-V7D speaker started growing rust on the connections, forms the basis of my decision never to spend another dollar on a Sony product. Unless they started making toilet paper.

Terrible app if i could give minus stars i would. This app has been the same for at least 5 years (as long as i have had my sony speakers) and nothing about it has changed. The UI is terrible. Connecting speakers is terrible. Reconnecting once you finally get everything set up- terrible. I am actually looking for new speakers to upgrade my current ones and Sony is out of the question because of this app.

Missing something. Look, I love my speaker! But the reason I’m writing this to say, a battery icon option to allow quick view of how much battery life, instead of going into the app and into and into would be nice. But that really is my only complaint as to date! Thanks for the great sound!

Auto connect. Can you please make it so it will allow access automatically. Every time I start my car it asks to allow access, really annoying.

can't choose bluetooth function in the app.. The only way to play Bluetooth is use remote control or turn on the device by iPhone Bluetooth connect. Please add Bluetooth function choice in app.

Really waste of money. Worst app ever. Unless battery is above 75% charged you cannot conect two speakers. Pairing two speakers will not work everytime, most time end up playing one speaker instead of two. Cannot believe Sony supplies it. Do not buy Sony until app is sorted. Steve

Sony. What. Trash.. This thing is Hot 🔥 garbage 🗑. I mean I takes 3 ages to load as well as every time I use it, I get booted out of the app. Nothing will change it to 5 star, 2 stars if you are lucky. Oh yeah I have to put in my Apple ID to update it🙄. Can’t even delete it...

Waste of Time. This app does nothing. It connects nothing. It lists nothing. I can not do anything from the app. What a WASTE of TIME. I would have given much less than one star if it was possible. Perhaps do some research into some other apps that deal with blue tooth devices, then try again. On a different brands app, I can see each product, check battery level, turn on/off, adjust volume, add and subtract devices in the area. I think I’m done with Sony audio stuff - it just hasn’t stayed up-to-date with today.

A buggy, broken app that’s only useful when you’ve lost your remote. Tried using all of the music features but it’s a frustrating user experience

Proof Of Sony’s Care Factor. This app is a classic example of proof that Sony just don’t care. It’s horrible as a replacement for remotely controlling or using any settings for my STRDN1080. You could probably download a free universal app that would do a better job. After making numerous Sony purchases and being a loyal and outward brand ambassador over the last few years I have finally had to admit to myself that there is no point being loyal at all. 2 months after purchasing my receiver Sony announced at the same retail store they would give away a free pair of Atmos speakers with purchase of the same amp. I asked Sony direct if I could please get a pair too but.....OH NO WAY! HOW DARE YOU EXPECT TO GET A FREE PAIR OF SPEAKERS LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE WHO HAVE DONE THE EXACT SAME THING! Great service for an ex loyal customer from a crappy consumer electronics company. Goodbye Sony! 👋

Disappointed. Sony still make beautiful hardware, they just can’t seems to back it up with functional firmware and software. They ruled analogue but have failed to make a successful transition to digital. Very very disappointed.

Pointless. I cannot understand why this app even exists other than to get you to agree to give Sony access to your music and sign away your privacy. Seems more like Spyware.

Chromecast update Kills my radio app access!!. This has been a fantastic App but the latest update on iOS 11.3 Kills this App as soon as I select my Tunein radio App via the Music Centre App. I have to kill the Music Centre and go directly to the radio App so I lose all Music Centre features.

Can't see fiestable on the app. I'm trying to use fiestable for my speaker, I'm trying to find the fiestable app on the songpal but it just won't pop up and now fiestable is a useless tool app for my speaker. Pretty disappointed :( Please let me know how to do it or just get it fixed because I have done some research and there is nothing to say about the problem.

Great App:)). good for controlling my radio from my phone, good for auto launching apps and applying necessary settings depending what’s connected to the radio (subwoofer)

All Good. After reading all the negative feedback I was thinking the same thing would happen to me i.e. connection issues and reconnection issues however this problem did not occur with me as the app downloaded opened then searched for my product Sony Bluetooth speaker connection was automatic using my iPad 6th Gen and every time I turn off the speaker using the app and turning it on manually from the speaker button connection is instant without a problem and I don’t have to repair pairing is automatic as I stated. Once in the app it link all your music and musical apps for easy access-speaker functions such as lights and sound can be altered all through the Sony Music Center App.

Illumination Setting never saves. The Illumination Status once set is forgotten each time the Speaker is power cycled and on each restart it turns Rave Party lights back on which I never want. The system should save the last used setting because there should be a presumption that is the users preferred setting. Every time I use the speaker I need to go to the settings to turn the party lights off and this makes it a chore and reduces significantly my enjoyment of the speaker and this app.

Impossible to use. This app needs a lot of work. Trying to set up a speaker that is already paired, can't detect the speaker that's already connected, showing multiple speakers but I only have one.

Just 1 new issue. After the latest update I have to agree to the terms to open and re use the app BUT! I can’t agree It won’t accept my agreement so I can’t use it Except for that it’s a great app Easier to use than the actual stereo So could you guys please look into fixing this with maybe another update

Warning to all potential sony customers. This App seems to be a sales tool. If you are buying a Sony amp thinking it will be smart phone compatible think again. With in a year of buying my STR-DN1050 Sony removed support saying “you can still control the device with the remote control or from the device”.. well thanks for the 1970 level connectivity.

Complete dud! Never buying Sony again!. The App won’t update, won’t install, won’t do anything! Really tired of Sony choosing particular avenues to go down to suit themselves and have very limited support and accessibility of certain features also very limited!

iPhone 6 Plus. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and With the latest update I am unable to install as the end user licence agreement will not allow me to select the box I read the above contents and agree even though I have read right to the bottom of the document

Useful. Just what I need it has DJ effects and light options for the Sony GTK-XB5, seems like the app does what it’s meant to, not sure what’s wrong with it my experience has been smooth so far

Why bother at all. Such a useless app for the iOS version, good luck trying to play music from your library it’s a hit and miss kinda thing, seems like it’s a common problem so why do the developers not test these things prior to releasing!

No longer works. This app no longer works on my iPhone 6 since the current update. A black screen appears and then disappears from the screen. Not happy.

So far so good. Great app very handy just need to fix the Bluetooth dropping off bug

Unable to agree new policy. The new app doesn’t allow me to check the policy agreement box on my iPhone X so unusable. 😔😔😔😔

Shockingly clunky setup and reliability. Trying to use this to group two new Sony speakers to listen on both at the same time. Everytime I try to group it never quite works. It will disconnect one speaker and only play on the other (and vice versa). I finally got both speakers connected and then grouped only to come back the next day and they were disconnected again. Have now tried for 40mins to reconnect and regroup with no luck. Driving me insane!!! Such a time waster!!!!!! Fix it!!!!

Great app for portable Sony speaker. But... it uses over 500mb just on documents and data. What documents and data?! It should only be controlling the speaker not storing anything that big on the app. How do I clear documents and data on the app? Also needs to stop asking to open the app every time it connects, if I want to open the app I will.

This app is ridiculously bad.. Every time I use this app on my iPhone 8 as soon as I select a new song the stereo freezes, I have to cut the power and restart the stereo. If I use the remote it’s fine. Please Please Please fix whatever is wrong.

Auto Access. Auto Bluetooth Connect would really add to the user experience

What’s the point of this?. I only discovered this app as the Sony headphones app wouldn’t work on my iPad and after much pfaffiing around it directed me to download the Sony Music app as well. So now I have two Sony apps just to recognise my headphones on my iPad. What a waste of time. Why not buil one app that works properly?

Pain. It is supposed to connect to multiple speakers from my iPhone. Every time it drops speakers and I have to connect manually. It is an absolute pain. Compared to other apps, this is still to develop into a real app - not yet though.

Sorry Sony, doesn’t cut it. I know Sony seems to be trying to improve but they really need a brand new UI layout and the interfacing between the application and product needs to be streamlined A LOT. The current way it interfaces with it is clunky and more ugly than doing without the application. We’ll see what Sony has in store.

Input resets. Sony needs an update. The input resets every time you turn on a device forcing you to open the app to select the correct input again. Happens about 1 minute after you turn on the tv for example. Frustrating.

👍. 👍👍👍

Frustration. I use this app regularly to revive the casting function of my Sony sound bar. If Sony can’t make something work consistently then they shouldn’t advertise it as a feature of their product, otherwise it just becomes frustrating garbage.

Slow. Just got the app it is so slow and laggy! Seems like it hasn’t been updated for 5-10 years, adds pretty minimal value to my Sony speaker and inconsistent with the quality of the hardware

President. J’adore le privilège d’être un actionnaire

Multiple speakers. Impossible To use this app with more than one compatible speaker

App is slow. App hangs when providing basic functions on IPhone 14. Very annoying.

Wifi. Communication en fonction wifi aléatoire pas trop fiable … difficile de faire des mise à jour

Great app with one minor request…. Story time! I recently bought a Bose bluetooth speaker and while the sound quality was excellent, it was just too big a sound for my tiny apartment. It would definitely have disturbed my neighbours. So I replaced it with the Sony SRS-XE200 and it is a good enough speaker for my needs. This app is sufficient, and I like that I have some basic control over the EQ. However one thing I’d like is if the speaker volume were independent of the audio source’s volume. So that whatever I set the speaker volume to would be the max volume, then be able to adjust or fine tune with the controls through my phone or laptop. That’s all, thanks!

App connectivity issues. The app should work better

Sony music center. Works good for Sony Bluetooth speakers ..good connectivity

Something is buggy here july 2020. Had the app for a long time. Purchased a new speaker and app doesn’t recognize it and asks for bluetooth to be turned on..... when I’m already using the speaker without issue... also asks for wifi.... why? I’m on LTE, what’s the problem? Come on Sony, quality product with mediocre software support.

Using a Sony xg 500 for review *. It’s sick when the lights change colours but I feel like maybe you guys could make the app a lot cleaner and simple…it feels sloppy and it’s really flawed and who let this drop as a final product? I spent 600 dollars on a speaker to get a garbage app? When skull candy’s headphone app is better in most ways for comparison.

it’s alright. i have a mac iphone and apple watch i would like to connect it to the other devices but it only connects to my phone i keep on trying their bluetooth setup but it just won’t show up on either of the devices so that’s why it’s a 2 star rating it works fine but only for my phone not my other devices. hope this helps :)

Extra features for sounds. Would be great if there are more ways to boost the sound capabilities from the app.

Remote. Can't make the remote work

Bluetooth Connections. This software has major problems with maintaining Bluetooth connections.

I still don’t see the value. I get what they’re trying to do with this app, but I don’t think it’s smooth enough.

Awesome. Bruh

I really do enjoy this app, but... Quite literally the only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because there is no feature to mute the ‘power on’ sound/chime integrated. It is quite loud and if you have the speaker on LIVE mode on startup it is incredibly shrill and ear piercing. It wakes my family when I just want to listen to the speaker at a low volume. (The volume of the ‘noise’ isn’t adjusted by the current volume of the speaker either which would be cool.) Anyway thanks for making an amazing speaker I really appreciate the sound of my SRS-XB41 and it continues to impress to this day when we entertain company. We’ll done Sony!

Cannot set equalizer. Cannot set or adjust equalizer or any option while playing

Sony XB30. The app works fine if only there was a volume booster or quality enhancer for music it would be way better. The current sound is loud but more boxy then clear. Possible fixes could make this the top speaker/app!

THE Best. Yep.. I have been through probably six different flac and DSD file delivery apps. Mostly using a dac/amp, and on occasion the iPad or iPhone alone. The Sony application is far superior in every way. It serves DSD properly, bitperfectly, and of course my flac files. But what is most impressive is file & metadata handling. I don’t have to struggle at all to obtain album covers in the way that I did with so many other of the common apps that all of you are familiar with. This Sony app just loads my files from the iTunes app on Windows that I use, and everything is laid out as albums with the correct album covers. I will be replacing the three or four other music playing apps that I have, with Sony alone. It will now handle all of my files. It’s THAT good.

Sony can do better. App works well but needs a updates look to it.. seems outdated so I was c. Same with the l fiestas app , need fresh look

Terrible App!. It doesn’t find my speaker. The app itself looks like it’s 15 years old. Very antiquated. In true Sony fashion they’ve overly complicated troubleshooting as well.

Frustrating. Nonsensical. Garbage.. It won’t pair. It keeps freezing. Been tinkering for 20 minutes and can’t make it work. Bad time for your automation to ask for a review. Bose is so easy. This feels like half baked software.

It’s ok…. It works, but it could definitely be more user friendly. Accessing sound options, then speaker levels, then going back to basic volume control is a task.

Superb. Wonderful instrument..Amazing 👍👍👍👍👍

Apps not working. Im.! Impossible to change to stereo mode. It’s greyed out..!

Lovvvvve it. Works great really fast and safe for kids

Garbage. Doesn’t work anymore.. Useful app. However I’m using it with my new Sony STR-DN1080 AV receiver. I use botmy receiver. It would be better to include an additional toggle so that both zone’s volume can be controlled simultaneously. Currently I have to go into each zone separately and adjust volume individually. One toggle on the home screen controlling all would be WAY better.

How bad this app is. I tried to download it in in the Apple store it says open like you have download the app and then I go to my home screen and it’s not there and then now all my music from the music app I’ve always used listening to music off-line, which is SoundCloud doesn’t work all of a sudden with the app not in my home screen. This app has screwed up my music.

Doesnt open on ios 16!!. Please fix. Thanks

Not necessary. I installed the Sony App but don’t see any advantage in having it use up memory when I can get the same functions on my device’s regular Bluetooth.

New Update Causing Issues?. Never really been a fan of this app, and it’s always been kind of annoying that I need it to connect to a Bluetooth speaker. However, not sure if it’s a new update but in the past day or so we haven’t been able to connect to our speaker at all through the app. We can connect through Bluetooth, but then not through the app. And thus none of the audio plays through the speaker.

Terrible App. Constantly loses connection. Starts talking in the middle of the night. Will not keep a stereo setup.

Music center cannot access many music apps. As the name says it’s a music center, but the fact it cannot access many music apps. For example. You cannot link it to ‘Musi’, ‘EverMusic’, ‘Tiktok’ etc. The appropriated name is ‘Music Corner’.

Blue tooth not connecting. Bluetooth doesn’t work from far distances. Please provide a solution. This happened after updating the app

Now I need an iPhone 15 to update my App?. Why would Sony decide to only support this App with an iPhone 15 or better going forward. Hopefully I can continue to run it by just not updating my phone app, but what a pain. The general forced upgrade path where you have to bit new hardware to replace older still working fine hardware is getting pretty stupid. I also don’t find the app terribly intuitive or user friendly, for things like operating zone 2, but that’s another story.

Great app!. App has everything you need & some

Sony 900headphones. 5star

BLUETOOTH CONNECTED!!!!. The only reason i got the app is to turn off the unbelievably loud bluetooth notification that sounds whenever a phone is connected or disconnected. Also if I’m playing music i don’t want my roommates phone call to suddenly override the music. This should never take phone calls. Ever. It’s for music.

Doesn’t eork. It will no longer work after updating to the latest version.

Sony Music Centre. One of the most enjoyable music app . My best companion indoors and outdoors with such high quality sound.

Speakers. It’s ok I love it, it’s just it would be nice if the tweeters could go different Color’s, instead of the edges.

Too omplicated on zone 2. my amp (STR-DN1080) The whole zone 2 thing is complicated to make work.

App keep screen open unlimited time. The fact that this apps keep my screen active unlimited time make me nervous, if I forgot to close the app in order to not have burn in screen, this is the reason I deleted it

Good for what it does. Great app, gives you some really good eq controls for being a free app. I just feel like there could be a refresh. App seems pretty slow for how simple it is. The UI also feels kinda old. That’s the only reason for 3 stars.

Awful. Thanks for removing support for my 2 year old receiver. Never buying Sony again.

Sony stereo compatibility. Doesn’t show any of my music information like song title or artist name with Bluetooth Using with a MEX-N5300BT car stereo

Terrible. This app is fully terrible. It lags for huge amounts of time, often will not even connect to my sony receiver. It is something out of 1993. The 1080 amp it is supposed to sync with is okay (sounds great but very poor lifestyle features) but the app doesn't even do everything you need just for a basic system setup. This app is terrible and i’m not sure why a modern tech company would be satisfied with something like this.

App is crashing. On my and 2 other iPhones this app crash all the time when I am changing the zones. I opened support case, they told me there is update coming that will fix the problem. It is been more then a month still no update. Still having issues, support saying issue with all iPhones. I have STRDN1050 receiver.

This app is getting better but my An1000 receiver is still a buggy mess. I can’t believe Sony can push firmware updates faster, I still constantly lose my picture with this receiver. This app allows me to easily switch inputs to get my image back since my receiver is in a different room. I knew I should have stuck with Denon!

Policy change box. After the last update the app doesn’t let you pass through its policy box because it just doesn’t click the Agree, I tried to close the app and launch it again and nothing. It used to be a really good app though!

Can’t Accept Terms of Use. I’ve been using this app for a long time. Today, I got a notification that I had to accept the Music Center’s Terms of Use, scrolled all the way to the bottom, even tried clicking links within the terms (which simply takes me to the same thing in another language), and I can’t get the toggle to “check” the box to say that I agree. Apparently you can’t bypass it either, so I guess I’m stuck with this useless app. Ridiculous.

Good music player. The app works well as a stand alone music player. I often listen to tracks not listed on iTunes/Spotify, and the grouping and searching for those tracks were very messy and insufficient in stock music app. The grouping of songs and albums in this app is far more better than that in the stock music app.

Where are more EQ options??. App works fine more or less, other than it yelling at me to turn on my Bluetooth every time I forget. But where is more detailed EQ options?? How, in the year 2022, do I have less control over the equalizer settings than I did on a crappy mp3 player in the early 2000’s?? Seems absolutely ridiculous for how much you pay for a sound bar or portable speaker. Please update with a full 12 band EQ option.

Not designed for being in a car. All of the functionality is more or less there, but the user interface doesn’t really take into consideration that this is meant to be used on a phone and in the car.

No good. Takes forever for the app to recognize my speakers. When it first try’s to connect it skips and takes about 5 minutes to sync. Then if I minimize and bring app back up it loses the connection. Mind you I never closed the app. Not sure why Sony has a crappy app. Always thought Sony was top of the line...

Perfect for my Sony Bluetooth speaker. The app comes in handy for changing the way my Sony Bluetooth speaker sounds. You can add more treble or more bass. Also you can check what percentage of charge your speaker has. I don’t use the illumination all that much but the app lets you control the lighting as well.

An app that tells you how to use Bluetooth. I know how to Bluetooth connect to devices. My soundbar linked for years then suddenly stopped working. My phone Bluetooth list claims it’s not turned on or within range. The soundbar is both on in range and set to Bluetooth as it was for years. I’ve tried reinstalling, updating, rebooting. Nothing fixes it. I’m so annoyed at this super lame app for not addressing such issues or aid in troubleshooting. Devices that don’t sync suddenly wreak of cash grab by either Sony or Apple. Like I should go buy a new soundbar or new phone when both are still totally fine.

Satisfied. Device is sturdy, communication range works anywhere within house, volume is good, bass is good, multiple connections are good, best part, you can add more of these to a group, they can work together, so you scale your sound coverage and capabilities:)

App Crashes when changing zones. Does anyone ever test things before they release them? This app used to work. Now I can’t control Zone 2 or HDMI Zone. This app and the Sony STR-DN1080 were never field tested before being released. Nothing works the way it should. It’s so simple to just hook it up in a normal multi zone home environment to realize nothing works correctly. So sad that I spent this much money on a piece of hardware that can’t do simple things that stereos were doing just fine in 1998.

Keeps crashing. I just bought the GTX-XB5 Bluetooth speaker and you have to use this app to take advantage of all the features but when you do the app keeps crashing I can not even make it through an entire song. I am using an IPhone 6 and also an IPad mini 4 both devices have the same issues. Luckily you can still use iTunes but unfortunately you can not utilize all the features. I am optimistic that they will fix this problem in the future

Absolutely ridiculous. Sony should be ashamed.. This app is ridiculously bad if you have more than two speakers. The wireless part chain feature is a real gimmick as it only works 50% of the time. The setup for multiple speakers was extremely cumbersome and some speakers kept losing Bluetooth connection. During wireless party chain, some speakers will freeze and won’t be synced anymore resulting in the speakers playing completely different parts of the song.

App Crashes when switching zones - STILL NOT FIXED. Just adding on that we are still waiting for an update, going on two months now - ridiculous. This will be the last Sony purchase I make - Every time I switch to zone 2 the app crashes. When are you guys going to fix this??? This is ridiculous, it’s been reported by numerous users for several weeks FIX THE BUG so we can use the product you received our money for. Terrible customer service!!!!

Pain to maintain. The app desyncs with the speaker regularly, requiring full setup—despite that it’s already set up and selected as the active, connected source, so you have to forget and re-pair Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi to use the app. I want three things: 1. Remote power toggle 2. Remote volume 3. Remotely select Audio In I DON’T want a subscription service pushed on me, and I don’t want to rerun setup to connect the already connected device. Fix these and get 5*

Struggling to open the app. Hello, I’ve already downloaded the app on my phone. Then when I click to open it, it won’t open. Can someone pls advice what I need to do. My phone is updated and I have deleted and reinstalled the app several times and I can’t get in to control the music from my phone. I have an iPhone 8 Plus with an IOS 16.6

Kinda pointless. I really don’t understand the purpose of this app aside from being able to change the light modes. There’s limited light mode options, Interface is trash, very bland, and hard to navigate other features are kinda pointless as well. It’s cool you can change the lights though, able to set the mood for whatever you might be doing

Terms and agreements. Won’t allow me to accept the terms and conditions to keep using the app. The actual button that you press doesn’t check and you can’t move forward to using the app. Even when clicking a prompt to continue into another screen for more help with terms and agreements or whatever, it just changes to what I assume is the same screen, but wouldn’t know because it’s in a foreign language, and you can’t get back to the original terms and agreement page from there either.

Sound quality better with app but!!. I have the SRS-XB21 Bluetooth speaker. The sound quality is great from the app. But once I subscribed to Apple Music, the app will not let me play music downloaded from the subscription unless I purchased the music before hand. In the app I have the ability to select the Apple Music app but it would be nice to us only one app.

Good for what I need it to do!. I have no functional issues with this app. It has met my expectations. However, I would like the ability to choose LED colors of my liking. I prefer the solid LED (what Sony has labeled as Calm) vs. flashing LED selections. For example, I would prefer to illuminate a solid dark blue, but the nearest would be Cyan (too bright). Please Sony give us more options with LED colors!!!

The APP is horrible. I have an STR-DN1080. The app worked sparingly at first but enough to be a great upgrade from our previous receiver. However, since the last update, it crashes regularly and will not allow me to control zone 2 from the app. I am actually shocked at the poor quality given the Sony’s brand reputation. The receiver is good but without ability to control it from the app, it really is sub par compared to other similarly priced (lesser known brands). I would not buy this receiver again or any other Sony product that relies on this app unless it is fixed.

Loses sync. Don’t waste your time with this app. We have had the speakers for some time and love them. Decided to give the app a try...What we found is that if it works it’s awesome. Only tested it yesterday and it lost synchronization more than it was connected. Not cool

Does the job 👍🏻. I'm not usually the type to come type these out, but I see a lot of negative and overly critical reviews for this app. Yes, it "forgets" what you're doing if you put it in the background. However, this doesn't impede fluid operation of the speaker. Playback is never interrupted, and the app always comes back when you need it. It's not unusable in any way, people are just making mountains out of molehills.

Get more feedback from users!!. This app feels like Sony just hired an outsourced development team to throw together a list of features without iterating on much user feedback. For my speaker (GTK-XB90) the illumination setting should be way easier to find - changing visuals on speakers is super important especially with a loud speaker + lots of people around, so more convenient UI/UX for accessing Illumination would be much appreciated on the next update. General user experience could be more intuitive

SONY please help. I have a blue XB-21 and a black XB-22 (with white lights) that connect through this app and they sound great together!! I love putting the XB-22 on live setting and tying the light on both of them (they even match patterns). I want to add my XB-40 to the party chain but it won’t let me, can you guys fix this or give me advice? Love your speakers

Didn’t have any issues till now. Ive been trying to party group my speakers and it keeps telling me that i need to get closer to my speakers and i was literally a foot from my speakers and i have turned off and turned on my speakers and still nothing i have troubleshooted and still nothing this app needs some work and i will not be satisfied until this is running smoothly. Giving it one star is being to nice

Sound like it was intended. I’ve spent years listening to sound on competitive equipment, and it’s been very good. Sony, takes listening to all media to a different (higher) level. To my ears Sony devices have improved my listening experiences.

Miserable. Bought a second XBS speaker to be able to group the speakers, hoping to end up with a travel-sonos type of solution. The app is miserable, and hugely disappointing. The app should only be used for managing the chain, and not managing audio. Once chained, the output is extremely unreliable. Oh, and the app is completely redundant in the “playing music” realm, so no idea why Sony thought it was something they needed to include. Quite disappointed, don’t know why i ever trusted Sony again.

Did not expect this :). Great app, didn’t know you could do this much with Bluetooth sony speakers, I have the “srs-xb22” and I didn’t know I could do alll of the things that I’m now able to do with this app

Love the app. Any way to change the order of the drop down list? I know it is trivial but would like to customize to have the illuminate and sound adjustments right away rather than toggle and wait for them.

Horrible with Sony STR-DN850. If I had known the software was this bad I never would have bought this receiver. Really terrible. Doesn't let me control basic settings like standby mode (it goes into standby mode all the time). Clunky for music. Doubt anyone from Sony ever tried to use this software day to day. **Update: Went from bad to worse. Now STR—DN850 support has been removed completely. Sony should open source the software so hobbyists could perhaps create their own solutions.

Love it. Could you add better light customs and better left right center assignments for multi pairing and also more comprehensive equalizer controls they are not very smooth and could use some love in that area

Garbage. I got a Sony bluetooth speaker because it has a microphone and I need it for calls. This app allowed me to set the speaker to stereo mode. Fine! But it has an equalizer that technically works— but is so difficult to use that it’s hilarious. Three sliders for bass, midrange and treble. The sliders are so hard to grab and move! I don’t have big fingers either. It’s ludicrous that this app is a Sony product. It looks and works like a student project.

Volume. The app was worked well. But when you change the output to tv from device the volume is all the way up, witch make my wife extremely mad every time, also it would be nice if you could control the volume with the buttons on your phone while using the app.

Awful. Would be 0 stars if I could. Support for our receiver was ended a couple years ago, so we can never update the app or it won’t work with our model. Since the app-related functionality was part of why we chose this Sony receiver, that sucked. Even before that, the app won’t play nicely with my iOS Music app. It loops one song no matter what playback settings are selected, and will not access most of our music files no matter what I do. In short, the app is awful.

Enable to turn on and off. I wish it allow to turn on and off from the phone without having to go to the actual device. But I like it otherwise

Essay to set up your favorite sound settings 👌🎶🎵. The original sound of the speaker doesn’t have good clarity for outdoors. However you can increase highs and mids and maybe lower the bass for more battery live in 100% volume.

SRS-XB32. The app works good with this speaker. I’m able to control the light show and other features this speaker have. Only problem I had, and not sure if it was the speaker or the app or my phone itself(XR), it was randomly skipping a few song tracks every 2 seconds. Then of course it stops. It was weird. So yea the app is a must have if you have this speaker.

Love it. It’s amazing sound level so good I know it has some flaws and cracks, it’s not perfect, but I believe if Sony does not make it to perfect right now, then? There is a one phrase said by Sunny sound that Sony make diamonds long time ago and I believe so .

Get off your lazy butts Sony and update your sorry apps.. The Sony apps are very bad and have many Bluetooth connectivity issues. We have just arrived in 2019, going on 2020. Technology shouldn’t be this bad. These tech companies like to overprice there products but have very little software support to bad them up. Step your game up.

Having app issues. I have a Sony X90 speaker, and it works well! As soon as I connect to the speaker it tells me to get the app! Cool. I like that I can control the lights and all but I can get the app to load all the songs I have!!! I have Apple Music so there’s no need to buy every album anymore. But I can get the songs to work through the app. It does not bother me but when you download the app it says the music will be play better through the app, but mostly every song says it can’t be played. 🤷🏾‍♂️ no use to have the app if it’s going to be little this.

Broken. After the most recent update I had to accept user agreement but temporarily lost internet connection in the middle of that process and no no matter what I do the app says “you must have internet access to accept user agreement, check internet connection and try again.” I have deleted the app and redone loaded, I have reset my phone and nothing works. The app it 100% useless to me right now. Please help.

Fails to connect to speaker. I have two XB30s and have them connected to each other. When they are connected they show up on the app, however it is never able to control them and says connection failed. If I connect one speaker at a time I have no trouble. I am able to play audio correctly so I do not see why Sony's own app does not recognize their product. This app is clearly terribly designed and has been for years. Sony clearly has no intention of actually fixing it.

Frustrating user experience. Terrible app, I only bought Sony products (xb20 and later an xb21) to link them together. The sound is great from the speakers, but the app makes for a horrible user experience. It kept saying that the products must be registered to link them together, after doing that, it still does not work. Again, the sound is great on the product, but the functionality is far less than advertised and what I paid for.

I really do normally love this speaker system…. I own two models of the srs -xb -21 and one- -larger model 41…. And I usually enjoy this speaker along with the larger model -41 (yeah! Much louder ) However I cannot seem to get the volume up on this awesome little guy. I took the time to go to the help app…to learn how or why indemnity adjust volume settings. When in doing when it offers Bluetooth audio, and j adjust jt… it goes right back to the center and ignores my choice. I tried to go to the help center but you cannot search for an issue and circling circling gets old. Not sure why Sony doesn’t have a search feature in the help app.. that’s ridiculous. .

Almost perfect. Love the app. Easy to use, simple, nostalgic look, but I really have beef with the custom eq. I’ve used several other apps and I love the “smiley face graph” that has decibels. Once again the rest of the app is great but I really wish I had the option to change the eq of my XG300 on a eq graph instead of the simple bass, treble, and midrange sliders

Loses speaker. Installed yesterday and worked good to control volume via iPhone when plugged into TV via mini stereo line. Today shows 2 of same speaker one needs setup the other does not. Both are non responsive. Both say can’t connect even though it’s connected and can’t delete either to redo setup. Why has this issue not been fixed? When an app gets 2 stars the company should fix It asap or the people will buy elsewhere next time. Am I correct?

My speakers are great but will not connect to Alexa.. I’m going to be honest, I don’t know who to blame here. The Sony app runs a very simple setup and says that you’re good to go, however, the Alexa and Alexa app do not even see the sound bar. Thus, I cannot connect, despite my going through every help webpage on Sony and the Alexa website. When I go to the Alexa application in the sound bar, it just tells me to use voice commands to activate. To which Alexa says she doesn’t know what I’m talking about.
