The Subscription model is not the problem.. Update: 1 year later and still can’t add invited members without making a flexbits account (used to work just fine with google account in version 2 before this new model). Plenty of companies have switched to the subscription model successfully. Usually by keeping reasonable pricing, being transparent about the change, and keeping existing features the same for users who already paid for the app. Fantastical has failed on all these fronts. The pricing is way too high, there are clearly obtrusive buttons prompting an already paying user to upgrade, and the new app ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT have all the same features for existing Fantastical 2 users no matter how much they try to gloss over this. They say oh no it's the same features, you just have to hand over your information, add all your calendars to our *free* account... yeah did I have to do that before? No? Then it's not the same features... This isn't a matter of "I don't like how the new version looks". People can disagree on preferences. The facts are simple: I paid for an app with certain features, now the app was updated to make some of those features inaccessible.

Conflicted. Notifications are broken.. I honestly don’t mind paying a subscription for an app like this (though i wish you could add in sub tasks....), everything seems to be pretty good, but unfortunately the app is broken for me. For whatever reason, push notifications essentially do NOT work, as well as any sort of alert before an event...they only push to my Mac, I have yet to have them consistently push to my iPhone or iPad (iPhone is the worst out of the three). When they do push, it’s usually only at the time of the event itself, if it does decide to do anything. I have tested it over and over again, creating events just to test this: lets say i type an event for “Lunch at 12:45”, with an alert at the time of event, and an alert for travel time or one 30 minutes before. I will not get an alert before/travel time alert, and i MIGHT get one at 12:45 if I’m lucky, but that’s very sporadic. On my Mac, no issue...all my settings on all devices are correct as far as I’ve checked. If this were to be fixed, I would be an instant subscriber, but alas Flexibits have neglected to remedy this (as far as not responding on Twitter), etc. i just want this fixed!

Sneaky app replacement by dev. I’m fine if a developer wants to introduce a new version of its app with subscription-based features. The market can decide if it’s the right move. However, what Flexibits did was borderline unethical. Instead of launching a new app, it effectively switched all of its customers to a new and different app by pushing it out as a regular software update. Now users who paid full price for the app are stuck with a different app which is full of prompts to pay for a subscription. Now it feels like one of those free apps that’s constantly trying to get you to upgrade, except in this case you’ve already paid. Since there’s no easy way to roll back to a previous version you’re stuck with the new one. Flexibits, if you’re confident in your product put it out there and let people switch over to the new version on their own - if it offers compelling value they’ll do it - but don’t do a middle of the night bait and switch. I’m not opposed to subscriptions because I respect that developers need to earn a living, but the way you’re treating loyal users is really poor. I had actually been considering buying one of your other apps but you’ve lost my trust as a customer.

Why the negativity. A lot of people are giving this app poor ratings due to the new subscription option. I just don’t get it. You get all the old features, plus a few new ones without having to pay for the upgrade. Paying for the upgrade just gives you access to even more new features, which to be honest, unless you’re a power user of the app, you probably don’t need. The developers need a steady income to ensure continuous support and growth and I’m all in on helping that. It’s $5 a month for more features and helping the developer. A cup of coffee. That’s more than reasonable considering how good this app is. Fantastical has been my go to calendar app for years and there’s good reason for it. It’s beautifully designed, simple to understand, quick to add new events and has tons of features for people who use it all the time. I rarely ever experience crashes and it’s become one with my life. If I didn’t have this, who knows how much more of a pain my busy schedule would be. Keep it up developers, the naggers will leave and come back when they realize you’ve done nothing to the app they treasure

The Calendar App that should be standard. Seldom do I pay for apps that duplicate a built in app on iOS but Fantasical is one of the few exceptions to this rule. The speed & ease at which I can enter a new event or look up my schedule make this the app that should have shipped with iOS. If I were Apple, I would buy Flexibits to make Fantasical standard on iOS. There are a lot of Calendar apps out there but Fantasical is the best I have found at interpreting “meet JT at coffee habit in Campbell 2PM to 5 august 15” and making it an appointment on the right day & time. Just that alone makes it worth the price, but when combined with a great navigation UI make this worth using & paying for both the iPhone & iPad versions. (I only wish it was a single app with an iAP for the iPad layout so I knew which was which at a glance.) They went to a subscription model in the last few years which greatly diminishes the attractiveness of this app. It’s still great, but now it’s a constant money drag.

Useless With Persistent Pop-up Ad. Since the pop-up Ad for the new premium version 3 can NOT be disabled, it is a disruptive intrusion that turns Fantastical into an unpleasant experience rendering the app USELESS! Subscription model is just another curse on the human race. It’s limited lifespan expected to implode Tech 3.0 within the next few years as even power users are opting out of all but what they consider their essential 10 subscriptions for everything. If App or Software development is your gig, you’d better hope that whatever it is that you develop is considered by users as one of the 3-4 most important Apps or Software in existence. Otherwise, the subscription model your banking on is “the wrong economic business model (Forbes, Oct. 2019).” The Wall Street Journal’s recent advice to consumers is to stop wasting money on all but “the essential few subscriptions.” Apple has been the most egregious and irresponsible party in their promoting the subscription based economy for mobile app development. They see it as a win-win scenario for themselves as they no longer have to put in concerted efforts in developing unique built in features to iOS. They like having independent developers do their work for them.

Can’t Access any of the Features without Upgrading to Premium and paying $4.99/month. I was using Fantastical for over 3 years (I had paid for the most advanced version) and was happily running and paid for V2. It was a way for me to integrate multiple calendars into one place. Then a couple of weeks ago I started getting a pop up message saying I had to upgrade to Fantastical Premium to access and use the same features that I had been using for the past threeyears. I can’t even look at the “full month” calendar view without upgrading to Fantastical Premium and that costs $4.99/month. I think when you have had a customer for so long you can’t just downgrade them and the features they are use to using like this. You can’t even do the most basic of things Without premium. It’s nasty that a company would treat a long time customer like this. It says a lot about who they are and I would trust them with my business anymore. I’ve got many friends who are paying $9.99 for the year to buy a calendar app that does pretty much everything that Fantastical does. Do yourself a favor and search online. I just found many more calendar adds/ organizers that are a fraction of the price and do the same thing. Sadly you all lost a loyal customer by not honoring all the previous investment I had made into your brand.

2.9 and Sinking Fast!!!. It’s quite understandable why this is happening. Those of us that were loyal fans and customers of Fantasical and Fantastical 2 feel as though we have been cheated or duped with this move to the subscription model after having already paid for this app. Yes, it is said that we will keep all the features that we paid for on Fantastical 2, but this doesn’t seem to be the case with a number of customers, including myself. I’m terribly sorry to give such a low rating of one star to an app I have loved and relied upon for many years, but until I see the developers begin to respond to all the negative comments, this is where the rating stays. I hope Flexbits realizes that the fast decline in their rating is not helping them and that disappointed customers are hard to get back once they leave. Prospective customers read these reviews and rely upon them when making their decision to use/buy an app. Too many negative reviews are a real turn off, especially when they’re sudden and most current. It’s interesting to note that the developer has not commented or responded to very many of these negatives...very very few!!! It might better their situation if they did. But right now, sad...very sad!!!

Really disappointed with Fantastical 3. There is a horrible upgrade. Features they claim were remaining active from Fantastical 2 are not active completely. Had to completely disable calendars from iOS in favor of logging in using a iCloud app-specific-password account, and creating a “free” flexibits account. The free flexibits account is a joke!! All it does is ask me to upgrade to a premium subscription, with no other account settings to mess with. I don’t even have the option to change my account password. Update my email address, etc..., let alone let me see what is actually syncing or what it is doing. This is completely unacceptable. I have also had to completely remove the Apple Watch app for fantastical as it no longer shows any data about my appointments or events. Also it first stated I had to log into my free account to sync anything at all.... what the hell?? I thought all fantastical 2 features were still accessible?? Also the large complication no longer shows events or appointments just the day and date, I have the default watch day and date complication for that!! Seriously, horrible. And you want me to pay for premium features?!?!? How can I trust those will work if your so called free features no longer are useable??!?

Embarrassing Problems. This app tries to be helpful with several shortcut features, but they often take effect without notice and actively create scheduling issues as a result. 1) When creating an event, if you make the mistake of putting numbers anywhere in the title, the date and/or time of the event will be changed automatically. This is a very frustrating an unnecessary feature that often creates major problems. If I select October 1 and create a new event, I do not want or need that date to be changed automatically. This feature actively sabotages a basic scheduling task. 2) Time zone shift. This is an embarrassing disaster. If you travel outside your timezone, all of your event times will shift automatically and create massive confusion. 3) Start/end time shifts. If an all-day event is multiple days long and you change the start day, the entire event will be shifted automatically instead of just the start day that you are changing. This, again, creates confusion and incorrect scheduling if you do not happen to double check every setting after making the specific adjustment. 4) Same problem with start and end times. Changing the start time of any event will automatically change the end time. It is exhausting trying to quickly schedule events when making a single adjustment results in silent, automatic changes elsewhere. I have to stop using this app because it has burned me too many times in too many various ways.

The BEST Apple ecosystem calendar. I was hesitant to spend $40 per year on a calendaring app, on any personal app for that matter, but I believe the ROI justifies the cost. With a single subscription, I get a unified calendaring experience across desktop, iPad, and iPhone, and my productivity is significantly better with managing my scheduling and tasks. I use a combination of Exchange, Google, and CalDAV calendars with Reminders and Zoom integration. Compared to the alternatives, including built-in calendars with Outlook and my favorite email client Spark (sorry Readdle, but I do LOVE Spark for email for the same reasons here), Fantastical puts every other solution to shame. This is also the only stand-alone calendaring solution where I could see Exchange calendars delegated to me... the Calendar sets feature makes flipping between personal, work, and colleague’s calendar a breeze! I’m sorry I waited so long to subscribe, believing the other reviews here were indicative of what I would experience and at what cost. However, as a real-life, self-designated “power user”, the cost is returned many times over with efficiency and fewer scheduling conflicts. It simply has no equal in the Apple world. Thanks Flexibits!

Wish there was a way to go back to v2. I have been a longtime Fantastical user and have been pretty happy with the app, until now. Up until the recent update, the app always worked pretty flawlessly. But then came version 3. Let's start with the introduction of the subscription nags. The upgrade notes indicate that v2 users won't need to pay the subscription to keep using the app. But the reality is, it sure doesn't feel that way. The app has popped up the box to subscribe multiple times with no apparent way to close that box (aside, of course, from clicking on the Buy button.) But here's the main issue with the latest version - reminders are no longer showing up. To be clear, some reminders appear and others don't. It seems to be fairly random. In v2, reminders and everything else worked perfectly. The *sole* purpose of this app is to aggregate events and reminders. If the app can no longer provide that functionality, it's 100% useless - hence the one star rating. The latest version of the Fantastical app (v3) simply does not provide the most basic functionality it is designed for. In this case, the developers made sweeping changes that no one asked for or wanted, in order to introduce a subscription revenue stream. In the process, they broke the app's most basic core functions. Unfortunately, it seems that like many other people are saying, it's time to start looking for an alternative app.

Read this. Hi. There isn’t a single app I’ve experienced more trepidation over about updating after all the negative reviews. I‘ve loved Fantastical so, so much and it’s changed my life. Well! I’ve tried the free update so you don’t have to, and I say go ahead 👍🏻. Positives. The new features and redesign are AWESOME. Having the weather forecast so cleanly integrated is FANTASTIC. Take the time to explore, really! Negatives? Some reviews complain about aggressive nagware. Nothing like that as of 02/04. Premium features have a visible star icon next to them, that’s it. Missing features? I’m struggling to find any - 0.01%, if anything. I’m a student, and I do wish they would reconsider the cost or offer a discount. Why the change? I did some research that helped me empathize. Apple takes 30% of all one-time purchases/upgrades, but only 15% of sub payments after someone’s been subscribed for a year. So subscription models have a HUGELY positive business impact. Income stability for an increasingly saturated market. Ongoing, improved support across 3 platforms takes time and money. I hope the change motivates them to not only elevate Fantastical but to start innovating by developing new apps & services that are included in the subscription to make the cost more worth it. Change my life again. I don’t like subs, but I love Fantasical, so I am will try this out. I spent too long on this review.

Longtime user, it’s time for me to leave. Hey listen Fantastical, I’ve had your $40 subscription for a couple of years now. I’ve stuck with you even when you would just crash on my macbook every day to the point where I had to uninstall the desktop application entirely. I stuck with you because your mobile app on my phone works great, and I live by my phone calendar. I love being able to type in when and where an event will be and have it autofill the event. But I have to let you go—not only because I’m now in way more student debt and every penny counts, but also because I just spent 30 minutes trying to sign into both the updated desktop application and the iPad app using my Apple ID and had no success. I’m starting a program where I need my calendar on my tablet and my desktop at all times. And yeah I probably could wait to call tech support tomorrow to get assistance, but considering the update to the desktop app took a while for me, I think I’ll pass on waiting for this fix. I’ll probably come back once I can just rely on the mobile app again. Until then, goodbye Flexbits, goodbye Fantastical. PS Originally I had this at 3 stars. I’ve bumped it up to 4 because I truly used this app every day on my phone for years. And it probably works just fine on iPads and macbooks too. But I guess I’ll never know

Disabled the one troublesome feature and now it is perfection. This app was everything my husband and I needed to stay in the loop on each other’s schedule. There was one major flaw — on several occasions, while scrolling through the agenda, I accidentally dragged one of my husband’s events to a different date. There’s no way to see the original date of the event, so you can see how this is potentially catastrophic. I decided to look for a new app, but none were as good as this one. Finally, out of desperation, I used the developer’s contact form to explain the issue. I received a super speedy reply (within 30 minutes) with instructions on how to access the hidden option to disable drag and drop. (Pasted below in case anyone is having the same issue.) I opened the app and fixed the problem with just a few taps. So awesome! Go to Fantastical's in-app settings and pull down from the top of the screen four times. On the next screen, tap Options > Disable Drag and Drop.

Great design both visually and functionally. Fantastical has a wonderful design both visually and functionally. It not only looks great all over iOS (the app itself, the widget, watch app, an especially the iPad app) but it also carries that thoughtful design with it through its functionality. From natural language parsing, to the flow of elements, to the extended keyboard for adding events, it keeps things simple yet complex in a well refined way. My only complaints are that it can take a little to sync across devices on occasion but that may be the fault of iCloud or Google. One thing I really wish it offered was an auto snooze for reminders. I appreciate that it gives me multiple manual snooze buttons but often I have my hands full and can’t snooze. If it goes a few minutes without a manual snooze or completed, it should keep reminding you until acknowledged so as to truly help you never forget. Overall great app though, worth every penny, I hope to see many more improvements over time.

Revising my previous review. I’m upping my rating from 3 to 5 stars. My previous rating reflected my frustration with Fantastical 3 removing features that - as a user of Fantastical 2 - I had already paid for. On top of that, I wasn’t happy with the prompts to upgrade to the premium subscription plastered all over the app. However, it looks that now most of the features of Fantastical 2 are available for free to existing users. The only exceptions seem to be Calendar Sets and Travel time on the iPhone, which I’m pretty sure were existing features in Fantastical 2 for iPhone and now are gone (unless you subscribe). As it stands now, with Fantastical 3 I still have access to 99% of the features I paid for, plus the iPad app is vastly improved over the previous version, and there are a couple of minor new features like the 3-day weather forecast. That’s fair to existing users. As for the new subscription model, I wish it hadn’t become so ubiquitous. But if the premium features make a big difference in your daily work and productivity, then it’s worth paying for them. Otherwise, the free version is fine for the casual calendar user. I’m still on the fence about subscribing for those premium features, but I’m not angry about it.

Final Touches. I tmhave been using this app for almost two weeks now and it has completely transformed the way I interact with, and more importantly, how often I actually use my calendar! I’ve actually purchased several other calendar apps and while they all were supposed to be “amazing” ( at least according to the reviews), something about them made it seem too... daunting. Enter Fantastical. It’s really a big improvement over the standard calendar app and it is definitely worth the money. I love the natural language input function and the overall functionality of the app. It works extremely well and has many handy features like automatically adding an event to you calendar when it’s detected in your inbox (think: you purchased concert tickets and once you receive the confirmation email it will auto-create a fully filled in calendar event) With that being said, I would love some customizability in terms of the color scheme and the window layout. Also, GET RID OF THE “DOT SYSTEM” for tracking events. It’s really confusing and unacceptable to look at.

Loving It!!!! Loving it!!!! Loving it!!. I juggle a lot between personal, work and volunteer and I needed a calendar that let me pull everything into one app. I love how easy it was to add all 8 calendars I manage, RSVP to events and even join meetings from right in the app! Having the weather update right on the date is great for outdoor activities! Im using the app across all Apple devices. I haven’t yet figured out if I can download something or browser widget for my work PC. Only big negative I’ve seen so far: when in Fullscreen Month mode, you aren’t able to click on a day and it show the calendar for that day. You can however use the calendar in list view. This shows a small monthly calendar on top with dots as the events on the days and down below has a list of the events for that day selected. Small minor thing really for me. Overall, if you are trying to take control of your calendar then this is the solution for you!!!

Will try again later.. **iOS 15 update** Decided to give it another shot after an entire iOS update was pushed. Tried multiple times, but could not get my watch to get past the login screen. Too much bloat for this to work nicely without major troubleshooting. **iOS 14 update** Now with iOS 14, the exact same problem is even more apparent as my review below. The new widgets barely show any information, while the native calendar app is cleaner, less cluttered, and has smaller text to simply display more information. **iOS 13 - Fantastical 3 update: I bought this app for it’s widget; The compact nature and that you could see a monthly view was the entire reason I bought Fantastical 2. Fast forward to the Fantastical 3 release, I’m happy that all of the same functionality is available to me. I’m not a power user, so the new features are not for me. However, the update has brought in this bloated layout. Text is bigger. Spacing is larger. The compact nature that I was initially happy with is gone. The widget takes up so much space when you have multiple events on any give day. It’s a real disappointment. Why try and change something that worked so well?

Definitely worth the price.. Please Read!!! The new price is very fair. $40 to keep your life in order. That is a couple weeks at Starbucks. Come on. The developers have bills too. This app consolidates all my scheduling needs. Most other apps don’t even duplicate? Anyway. I see the bad reviews about the previous Fantastical2 buyers. When they rolled out V3 it did gripe you to subscribe but they fixed that. So previous users have everything they loved before and even more freebies plus updates “FOR FREE”. So please go back and change your reviews people. Please be fair and don’t immediately jump out of your skin when you see the word “Subscribe”. Just remember the pre smart phone days when software like this cost a couple hundred dollars each version. Old review ——————————- I've been using a mobile phone calendars ever since the palm pilots and blackberries. Tried every iOS cal and keep coming back to this one. Fantastical has the most usable interface with all the bells and whistles you could want but most importantly they are well implemented. A must have if you use and rely on your calendar all day like me. Download now.

Can you fix the widget glitch please??. One of the main reasons I preferred this app over others is because I liked the design of the original widget option that showed the whole month and tasks but was semi-transparent. Its incredibly convenient for someone like me who is crazy busy all the time and I prefer the look of the older transparent widget. However with the new IOS update it keeps adding the new widgets fantastical has and I don't like them. Its totally random too. Every so often theres a glitch or something and I do absolutely nothing to change my widgets and it turns my fantastical widget into one of the newer fully colored in non transparent widgets. It even moves the location of my widget (also annoying). Even if i delete the widget and try to re-add it, it doesn't show up in the “customize list” at all. I have to go to edit home screen and press the “+” button but even still the only options there are the old widgets which I don't like. I realized the only way to get it to show up on the “customize” list again and be the old semi transparent widget I prefer... is by restarting my phone which is very annoying. Please fix this.

By far the best, and great free upgrades for existing user. Before version 3 I had been actually using a few different calendar apps (including Fantastical 2). Version 3 has brought so many new features, and the feature parity across platforms, that it has fully won me over as my calendar app of choice. The way that they allow version 2 users to upgrade for free, and made sure that we still get all of the same features we previously paid for across each platform, even if some of them are now normally under the new subscription tier, is very well done. It means you get all of the new design improvements (and there are many) at no cost and if you’re happy with all of the features you had before there is no need to pay anything at all. I found all of the new features so incredibly useful though that I immediately signed up for the yearly subscription. $40 for such a great app and across my iPhone, iPad, and Mac? 100% worth it. Seems like they tried hard to make it the fairest for every type of user and I appreciate that. A few minor bugs but no show stoppers so far and they seem to be working toward improving things very quickly. I was on the beta for a little while and saw updates coming fast and furious. Looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Almost perfect but not quite. I’ve moved away from the Google/Apple calendars because I don’t like having to click each day to see what I have going on. In this regard Fantastical is fantastic. I have a much better sense of what my day/week/month looks like, all on one convenient page. I don’t pay for the full version but have enjoyed the free version nonetheless. Though there are other minute issues others have pointed out in their reviews, I have one enormous gripe with this app. An annoyance big enough that it spurred me to write my first ever review: whenever you write the title for your appointment, for example, “Sally in webinar for vaccine information”, the app will automatically take “in webinar for vaccine information” and move it to “Location”, leaving your event titled “Sally.” I have to move the text from Location back into Title every single time. It doesn’t seem like that big a deal, but when you’re trying to schedule an appointment on the fly it’d be really nice not to have to take the extra time to REWRITE what you just wrote. App developers, I’m begging you, PLEASE change this! Or at least make it an adjustable setting!

Very nice app, but not quite perfect.. Fantastical has a ton of functionality. This is a huge pro, of course, but it also leads to the app feeling cluttered or chaotic at times. I would love to see more options to have a simpler main screen. I don’t always want to see everything that I have planned for the coming days; it’s a lot easier to focus on immediate tasks if I have the option of only seeing the current day’s tasks and events. Seeing so many future events can feel overwhelming. I would also like to be able to either create custom length tasks or to be able to check off events like you can in Sorted 3. If, say, I want to block off three hours to focus on cleaning the garage and I get finished in two hours, I have no easy way to end that event early which means it will remain visible on my Watch complication and my home screen widget. You can check off tasks, but unfortunately tasks don’t have a duration setting. These are my only two complaints about the app. Unfortunately, they are pretty significant to the app’s functionality for me and I will likely go back to my previous calendar app after a little while. The way I use my calendar apps leaves some aspects of Fantastical lacking, but overall it is a great app and a lot of people would probably find it the perfect fit.

I was a naysayer, but no longer. This is the best calendar app.. You can see my original review below. But I was wrong. Because $40/year is not getting you some stagnant app. In addition to Fantastical being the most full featured and gorgeous calendar app in the app store, the developers are working their butts off every day to fix issues and add functionality. How do I know? Because I regularly ask for features and report minor issues I've found. And those features are added and those bugs are squashed. And quickly. Look at the version history to see how much love this app gets. The low reviews are from people (and formerly me) that feel the price does not justify the return. They are wrong. There is no doubt in my mind that I am getting $40/yr in value from this app. My original review: The new version is gorgeous. It's what the app should have been in 2.0. I'd happily pay a decent single time payment. But I couldn't possibly justify $40/year for a calendar app on my phone.

So far, it’s fantastic!!!!. I wanted to find a calendar that didn’t require a monthly fee, has no ads, would synch with my iPad and iOS calendars, and had the same interface as the calendar I was using. This fit the bill! I purchased the two separate apps for my phone and IPad. I love how my phone reminders are also integrated into my daily list view and how when you turn the phone horizontally it provides an extended view. I also really like how you can do a light or dark theme and shade the weekends out. I just figured out how to integrate my FB events and I love how I can add the date to the icon. They have a great website that helps guide you through the interface and FAQ’s. Every time I discover a new feature, I’m even more impressed and in love with this calendar app. I finally feel like my life and plans are streamlined, simple and in one place. The search bar feature is so handy. Thanks Fantastical - keep up the good work! This is a lifesaver.

The Only Calendar You Need. I’ve waited over a year to write this review for Fantastical. I don’t get paid for this nor am I bot. I just don’t believe in writing a review after using an app for 5 minutes. I’m also a person who changes apps every couple of months bc I get bored. I haven’t changed from Fantastical since downloading. That being said, this app’s is so well designed. It’s aesthetically pleasing with your choice of dark / light modes. You have the ability to link all kinds of calendars: ones you subscribe to (for the sport parents out there), google calendars, etc. Seamlessly syncs between devices (MacBook, iPhone, ipad, etc). No annoying ads (yes, this is a plus). Perhaps the best and well developed feature is the natural input language. You can literally right “Study Group /school calendar every Tuesday 1pm until June 25th” and it’ll enter it properly as a repeat event on Tuesdays that stops on June 25th. This is 1000% better than clicking on multiple fields to enter 1 event. The developers don’t just focus on the look, but they emphasize on the user experience. Not easy to do when you have to manage the masses. So highly recommend this app for those who are looking for a good calendar app.

Bloatware. UPDATE September 2020: I've been using the default Apple Calendar for many months now and what's remarkable is how weak the value proposition is for Fantastical in 2020. As I noted in my original review, it's *fine*. Little about Fantastical is revolutionary or, indeed, more useful than the default calendar these days. It certainly doesn't merit the steep price the developers are charging. If you download the app, you'll see its... ok. It's certainly not BAD. It's just a lot of features in search of a purpose being sold as a premium product when, at its core, it's simply an ok calendar. ORIGINAL: What used to be a clean and powerful alternative to a bloated but nonfunctional default calendar app now finds its situation exactly reversed. It's ok for what it is, but there is just no compelling case for the vast majority of people to spend money on Fantastical now, as it simply doesn't add meaningful value. If you want to support independent developers, great. They produce quality product, and Fantastical certainly isn't *horrible*. But it doesn't distinguish itself like it used to. It's merely ok. So I've moved on (to the default calendar app, much to my surprise).

This application had a place on my phone and iPad for years. Same page as everyone else ... a one time charge i would of did to get some of the features and just pay for the time they spent on the facelift ... now i have a paid application that has advertisements of premium all over it. Every calendar on the market has multiple views, customizable icons, even weather options with no subscriptions... it worked good at what it did .. now they added many bells and whistles that the average person might not want with an elaborate subscription price tag. Maybe they should make feature based purchases ... you want custom home screen icon and 10 day forecast, 1.99 one time purchase. Why would i pay a monthly fee for that. I can see many people jumping ship and many long time customers choosing elsewhere. Maybe its not too late for them to change their price structure before people start purchasing other calendar apps for a one time price. For the business person that can fully unlock this apps power it’s worth it. But for personal user that maybe wants to be to customize alert sounds, calendar views & colors, Home Screen icon, that should just be one time charges for UI appearances.

It was the best calendar app!. UPDATE: Had to change my previous review. Everything is behind a pay wall. Those of us who purchased every app for every device are now relegated to the basic + level of this app. That’s total unfair for longtime customers. Airmail did the same thing and look how much business they lost because of it. Fantastical is now deleted and I’m back to the stock calendar app. What a shame. I had always used the stock calendar app on every iPhone/Mac/iPad that I had ever owned. I thought it was the best calendar that I could use...that was until I came across Fantastical 2. I know the stock app lets me put all my calendars together just like Fantastical 2, but where the stock app fall short is on the natural language integration. I’m able to type my events in plain English and Fantastical 2 will create my event in a snap! It keeps me organized and allows me not worry about whether or not my app syncs across each device. Highly recommend this app!!!

ESSENTIAL APP and well worth 11cent/day for premium features. Fantastical is BY FAR the best calendar app I have ever used (and I have tried many over the years). The user interface is easy on the eye, and more importantly well organized and easy to navigate. Fantastical’s feature set is unique and light years ahead of Apple’s stock calendar and other third party calendar apps. Being an essential app that I use multiple times, the yearly subscription fee of $39 comes down to about 11cent/day and is more than appropriate for what I get. Also, when I needed help with something, customer service is always friendly and prompt. PS: I have been a Fantastical user from before they switched to the subscription model and owned the stand alone app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. The way the did the transition was with a high degree of professionalism and integrity and I can only commend them for that.

WHHHHHHHY. This has been my favorite calendar app for YEARS. Most user friendly, organized, maximized screen usage. WHY IN THE WORLD does the month name default to a 500pt font and therefore make it so I can see only meetings underneath my calendar now. Horrible I wish I didn’t upgrade to this version and DEFINITELY not upgrading on my other phone. I’m addition now I have to add my accounts with calendars to fantastical vs using them through iOS on the app in order to send out an invitation to anyone? I am not going to add my accounts to your app- ridiculous! You have never needed my log in and password before as demonstrated by the last five years I have used the app. Hate this app now. Looking for a new one. Horrible. Horrible horrible. The worst. Someone clearly thought the large month looked “cool”. We are looking for functionality not aesthetics and in fact the aesthetics are horrible. Please let me maximize my screen usage on my phone so I can see my month and list of appointments below. With the upgrade I can see maybe two appointments yet with the old version can see 15. Horrible. I’m so mad this is on my work phone and almost as bad as apple’s native calendar now. ☹️☹️☹️😭😭😭😭😭whyyyyyyyyyyy

Good, but.... I like the integration of reminders/tasks viewed with calendar event to see the full picture. But, there is one HUGE PROBLEM! I’ve been re-reading “Getting Things Done” by David Allen. He discusses use of a calendar and lists. The combination of the two in this app hits that mark, but fails to address the one concept I’ve incorporated that can be done in the Apple Reminders app. The features is sub-tasks. I’ve been spending time re-organizing myself. I’ve been looking around for new software that can incorporate both the calendar and tasks with sub-task functions while using iCloud and have a Mac companion app so I don’t have to start over and can continue sharing I’ve already have in place with the family. I’ve found apps that address these issues part. This app is the closest to hit all the marks except sub-tasks. If this feature was added, would rate it 5 ⭐️s and purchase the subscription immediately. Update: Now knowing the Reminders API is proprietary and cannot make subtasks, I have to say it’s a great app. I’ve modified my processes and it works for me. Definitely a tool to help keep yourself organized and keep you productive without falling behind.

Niche UI design issue sent me back to the native app. I really wanted to like Fantastical (for iOS), and I used it as long as I could until one small UI design issue fouled me up for the umpteenth time: When looking at the calendar view at the top half of the iPhone screen and the list view is at the bottom, it REALLY messes me up that if you pick a date that has nothing on it the list view, while updating to that particular date (showing nothing on the list), it also shows the continued list, showing the next day or days (depending on how many event entries you have). Three times in the span of a week I went to schedule business meetings and travel plans, believing I was looking at events on, say, a Tuesday, when the list was showing Tuesday (no events) and then a list for Wednesday (with a couple meetings already set) right beneath it. I didn’t notice Tuesday was empty. It catches me EVERY time I go to look for availability and find an empty day right next to a busy day. I’ve reluctantly switched back to the native iOS (and iPadOS) calendar app, which shows only the list for the day you’re on. Between my law practice calendar and my legislative calendar, I can’t afford any misfires with scheduling. Time is my stock in trade!

Have loved this app for years. I was an early adopter of Fantastical. I wasn’t happy when it switched to a different company; the subscription price was pretty steep for me at the time. Especially since I had already made a one-time payment for the app before subscription models. I’ve tried to find another calendar app as good as Fantastical and I haven’t. It provides me with flexibility and ease to create events and sync across calendars. My favorite view is month with a list of upcoming events shown below. I haven’t found anything close or comparable and other free calendar apps are more simple than I’d like. I’m using the free version of Fantastical and it’s still pretty powerful. Now that Fantastical has a monthly subscription fee, I might sign up again. (Yearly is cheaper but I can’t shell out all that money at once.) I will look at their updated premium features. This is the best iPhone calendar app (beats native calendar for me) I’ve ever used and I’ll probably will stick with it for a long time.

Wonderful Update. I have not experienced the other issues that others have. From my perspective, v3 is a winner and has replaced BusyCal as my desktop and mobile calendar of choice. 1. While other apps state they have regular updates, Fantastical actually updates my calendars regularly and smoothly. I’ve finally been able to ditch keeping google calendar app on hand to ensure I don’t miss appointments updates or notes. 2. The customization is... Fantastical. I love that I can pick my browser and map client if choice, as I use Brave and Waze but can’t set them as defaults in iOS directly. I can in Fantastical, awesome. 3. Personally, I’m happy to pay a $39 annual fee for all of the platforms (iPhone, iPad, macOS), to get a quality product that’s updated regularly with responsive support. With all of the above, of still like to see some additional integrations with other best of breed apps, such as AnyList. As well, a Dark version of the FantastiPal icon would be much appreciated, as well as customizable icons for the desktop version.

Missing some features. I like the app and it looks nice, but some features I need are missing. I would like to be able to reorder my tasks in the order I would like to do them (without assigning a specific time). Instead, they are in alphabetical order. I also wish I didn’t have to create a task 4 times to have it repeat weekly every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. There is not an option to choose which days the task applies to, so I have to create a task for each day I need it on and set it to repeat weekly. This is cumbersome. Also, I use the reminders app on Apple Watch and created a Fantastical calendar set without tasks for my watch so tasks wouldn’t show on my lists—this is because the reminders app shows MUCH more of the text whereas Fantastical only shows a word or two on the watch, making me click/tap into each task to see what I need to do. I also wish I could disable day and week views on the iPhone. They are far too cluttered so I just use Calendar and Dayticker views, which are functional and beautiful.

Disappointing for what it costs. Still doesn’t have great Siri Shortcut support. Doesn’t play well with iPad multitasking. If they’re asking $40/year for a calendar app, I feel like it should at least be a better iOS citizen. Also, they do the really annoying thing where they don’t write release notes for the actual version they’ve released - i.e., the notes shouldn’t be the same for version 3.0.2 as it was for 3.0. But as someone who bought and paid for Fantastical 2, I do appreciate getting the new design for free and keeping all my old features. I just can’t imagine spending the money on the premium subscription, nor can I imagine recommending it to someone who is new to the app. I get that subscriptions are an easier way for developers to maintain an income flow than developing new products and charging a reasonable one-time price for them, which used to be what we expected companies that wanted to stick around to do. It’s just that, as a consumer, it doesn’t make sense for an app like this, especially when the app doesn’t support some pretty basic things that pro users would want.

So much ⭐️ fail everywhere now. I had bought the Mac and iPad/phone/watch versions of this once-great app, but now I have to pay an extra $40 per year to keep the features I'd already had? Technically Agilebits has added in a lot of new stuff (that I'm not the target market for and don't care about), but old stuff has gone missing. For instance, did you used to change your "Start Week View On: Monday" setting? That's $40 now. That one feature isn't that big of a deal, but it's a death by a million cuts. Also, even though I paid a lot of money for the previous version, now my whole app is littered with little red ⭐️ icons showing the stuff I could be using if only I weren't now tagged as a cheapskate. The stock calendar app isn't great, but it costs $40 a year less and isn't trying to upsell me to the full version all throughout the app. I'm absolutely certain that there are people who need these new features, but I'm only willing to pay so much for what to me comes down to a prettier UI. Sorry, Fantastical, but I've deleted you from all my devices. You'll be missed (but not $40 per year much).

I have LOVE-HATE-LOVE relationship with this app.. I’ve been a user of this app since 2011 or 2012 and i looooved this app. Then few years ago this app became hard to use. It keeps on crashing! I tried the subscription version but it still kept on crashing. I tried looking for a to do app that has similar functionality with this one but sadly nothing comes close. I made a review here(i gave a negative review) and the company contacted me and asked me if I wanted to participate in a beta version group or something and I agreed because I really loved this app and I also want to help improve it. I did it for few years (giving feedbacks) and it still keeps on crashing! So i finally broke up with this app and just forget about this. Fast forward to a month or two ago when I upgraded my phone from iPhone 7 plus to iPhone 14 pro max and I tried using this app again and it was working properly!! The app doesn’t crash anymore! you can just tap the recurring to do list(the feature the i love the most) and it works! I’m guessing that the problem is my phone! I’m giving you Fantastical 4 stars instead of 5 because you didn’t tell me that maybe it’s already time for me to upgrade my phone LOL! and also so that you’ll keep improving the app and not to be complacent because as of right now, THIS APP IS THE BEST TO DO/CALENDAR APP!

Waste of time and money. Can't open app.. Decided to splurge and go premium, in hopes to find a reliable & user friendly calendar. App just freezes up and can't do anything on it. Trying to give it the benefit of a doubt, I passed Blame on my phone being the issue. So I did a soft reset on my iPhone but to no avail. So then I decided to download it on my MacBook in hopes of setting it up and just syncing it to my phone from there(🤞🏻🙄🤞🏻). Ha. . . I guess that joke is on me- since now the app is frozen at the welcome page on my computer. I've tried rebooting & updated the app on both devices now, but still won't work. So it's been right at one month since I first got this, and not one time have I been able to enjoy using it. Disappointed is an understatement. ***Update:*** No fairy tale update though... Just wanted to warn you all that trying to cancel this is not like the norm where you can simply go to your subscriptions and stop this one. You have to jump through hoops to even find the option to do it! Took me over two months to successfully do so and that was only because I had to email them to ask to cancel only to find out I had to go to their website on a computer.... Log in.... Go to settings and then billing and finally you have the option to cancel at that point. It is unreal the effort required to do this. Zero stars all the way around for me.... Now I get to waste more time requesting a refund for this unusable app!

Classic Widget Removed :(. I’ve been using this app for years. It has always deserved 5 stars in my opinion, specifically for the widget. I’ve always had the classic widget active. However, since this new app update to accommodate the ios14 new widget style, the classic widget is gone. And now the entire widget area on my phone is messed up because not only does the new widget style not move to where I need it to be moved to, but it looks different as well. Please give us back the classic widget as well. Until then, I’ll have to rate this app 2 stars because the main reason I use it is for the classic widget, which is unavailable to me now. My classic widget turned into the new style on its own after the app updated & now the option is gone to add the classic widget. I won’t be using this app until that option comes back, so I really hope it does. It might be a glitch because in the app it shows instructions to use the classic widget style as well as the new widget style, so I’m hoping you guys can fix it! I will change my rating when you do. Thank you! Update: once you restart the phone it comes back. Hopefully this is the end of the widget disappearing! Changed my rating to 5 stars!

SEVERELY Disappointed in 3.0. I’ve been a longtime supporter of Fantastical. Their products are notorious for having a premium price (both on Mac, and iOS platforms), and at that, you still have to purchase the app multiple times to use it on every platform. Needless to say, I bit the bullet and paid their premium price, on each platform, because it really is such a great app. That being said, I find it utterly mind-blowing that the already premium price was not enough, and the app has now transitioned to a subscription-based business model. This is completely ridiculous. Version 2 had minimal updates over the years (at least to justify re-paying annually), and I wouldn’t expect version 3 to offer valuable updates annually either - this is a calendar app, plain and simple. When other apps transition to subscriptions, it can make sense when there are server costs for holding the users’ data and running servers for the APIs - this is definitely not true for a calendar app (that sources data from third-party calendar providers). Granted it’s a great calendar app, but version 2 covers all of my needs quite effectively (and more). Again, the apps were expensive in the first place and I’ve been a loyal supporter, as I enjoy using this app. Switching to an annual subscription just screams money-grab. If you want more money, charge outright for version 3.0 and give PDF customers a heavy discount.

Not sure why review websites love version 3. Fantastical was my favorite iOS calendar app by far. I liked the UI and the ease to input events, see event info at a glance, and most useful, provided Time To Leave reminders for my appointments that included travel. Fantastical had published many different times that ALL features from version 2 remained accessible to those customers who would choose not opt-in to their subscription model. This is not true. In "fine print" at the bottom of a web page they admit that there are two features not carried over to legacy users, one of which is Travel Time. No longer having access to this feature is truly a deal breaker for me. Apple's native iOS calendar app has this feature but it is not as easily executed as Fantastical's and doesn't have event color coding for different calendars but I'm going back to it since I can't use Fantastical as efficiently and I also CAN'T STAND the new home screen appearance. IT'S UGLY and DISTRACTING. Flexibits, I will not move to a subscription for your products but please at least consider giving back Travel Time to your legacy users, or fully disclose up front that that's a feature you did revoke, and offer a UI skin of version 2 as it was much nicer to look at. I'd re-review your product with higher stars if you do that.

Allows Me Access to ALL My Calendar Data!. I have a habit of using the Apple Calendar app to keep track of my family’s activities and even medical information, because I write up the results of any doctor or veterinary visits, once they are complete. The stock app will fail to allow me to search for and reliably retrieve such info, once the data ages past a certain point. However, Fantastical WAS able to provide me with a COMPLETE search results list of calendar entries matching my search term(s), so I use it any time I need to find anything, since the stock Calendar app’s Search feature is unreliable, at best. We found Fantastical back when I NEEDED access to “old” calendar data that I KNEW existed, but that the stock Calendar app refused to locate for me. I love the fact that I can continue to use the app to which I am accustomed, and only need to use Fantastical when I need it for a data search; this is possible because anything I do in either app automatically bounces off the Cloud and populates the other app. SO COOL!

Agenda Has a Better Subscription Model. Update: Thank you for the reply. Still only two stars for your subscription plan. Nowhere in your reply did you address my suggestions. What you are offering is a subscription in perpetuity. I would gladly pay for any updates that you roll out over a given period of time, say one years time, if it allowed me to keep all those updates that happen in that time period without the obligation to continue paying for the next years updates. Again, look at the Agenda app and how they structured their pricing plan. I honestly think you would win back some burned customers. Fantastical is a nice piece of software, but the new subscription model is a big turn off. The Agenda app is free, with no time limits. There are also extra premium features that require purchase to unlock. When an upgrade is purchased, all current features are permanently unlocked across all of the user’s Macs and iOS devices. The purchase is good for one year and all updates that they roll out you have access to. After the year is up you can choose to upgrade or not, but you get to keep the software that you’ve paid for. You don’t automatically lose access to your calendar. If fantastical switched to that style of subscription, I would be much more inclined to stay with them.

They did right by Fantastical 2 users. I was one of the paid Fantastical 2 users who were angry when they switched to a subscription model. Yes, they could have communicated better, and the first new versions were buggy and had in-your-face nags to upgrade. But you know what? Fantastical *could* have abandoned Fantastical 2—and us—and introduced the new version as a separate, subscription-only entry in the App Store. Instead, we’re still getting all the features we paid for, including updates for bugs, security issues, and compatibility with new versions of iOS, plus a few additional perks like weather icons for the next few days. I’m not part of the target audience for the new subscription version—I don’t have to constantly arrange meetings with four or more people and repeatedly try to find times that are open for all of us—but I’m still enjoying all the features I paid for, thanks to their sense of responsibility to their existing customers.

Fabulous app and even better tech support. I use Fantastical on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac: Love, love, and love how well the apps all work. It’s become my default calendar app and I can’t imagine going back to the native Mac apps (sorry, Apple) But let’s face it- blips happen. In my case, the Mac version wouldn’t accept my Exchange password (kind of a big deal for me). I checked the FAQs but was worried that deleting the account and reinstalling it might mess up my iPad and iPhone versions (and I’d lose all my appointments). I contacted support and received a reply with instructions within a few minutes. The directions were clear and within 2 minutes I was up & running again. Summary: great program and if you do have a glitch (this was first ever problem I had with any version of the app), the support team will work quickly to fix it for you. Two thumbs up and six stars if I could give them.

Such A Disappointment. I’ve been a longtime user, frequently recommending to friends and clients, but in its current state I can no longer in good conscience do so. I was initially excited for the upgrade because of all the newly added features. But now my excitement has turned to deep disappointment. My gripe is not with having lost any of the features from ver.2 as they are all still there, it’s with having lost functionality on some of my most used ones. At the moment I can no longer confidently perform searches because it fails to find most of the events and items I regularly need to reference for work. The app constantly freezes for a few seconds when typing, scrolling, or doing just about anything. It now takes me 1-3 minutes to enter a new event when it would normally take seconds. The efficiency I relied upon is no longer there, forcing me to have to go back to Apple’s Calendar app in order to be able to do my daily work in a timely fashion and without losing any more hair out of frustration. I reached out to Support for help. After waiting for days they finally reached out to ask for screen recordings of what I was experiencing. I promptly replied the same day with 2 recordings showing exactly what’s happening. That was a week ago and am still waiting to hear back, despite following up with them multiple times via email and Twitter, to no avail. All I’ve received is silence. Definitely not worth the subscription asking price.

Long time user but no longer. The new design is nice, and I would’ve paid to buy it if the option was available. I was happy to keep using it and put up with the reminders for the premium subscription until I tried to enter in travel time for an event. It’s a premium feature, fine, but it’s also a stock standard Apple Calendar feature and you’re blocking me from using it because you want my money. I get you’re trying to run a business but blocking standard Calendar features to try and trick me into thinking I need to pay your idiotic subscription price? No way. Just deleted Fantastical, hope you can make your new business model work before you run out of users.

Best Calendar app so far. I was not happy with iCal and tried several calendar app. I tried this app with initial hesitation due to paid for. However, I finally made to conclusion that this paid app is worth the money. I also bought the Mac version. So, now all of my apple devices practically synced with this app. Awesome! One feature need to be added, IMO, is direct link to Waze in relation to address. I hope it will be included soon. [update: Sep26,2020]: it seems the sync between my iPhone and MacBook works slowly recently. I found that emails I erased in MacBook still appears in my iPhone. It will gone until I refresh the app several times. It gives me falls alarms when I switch between devices.

Used to be great. Update: Version 3.0.8 seems to have finally fixed the Apple Watch syncing. It’s too late for me though: I don’t trust Flexibits commitment to the “free” version now and I’ve found that Calendars 5 works well and is good value. The upgrade to Version 3 looks nice, but the forced creation of a free account is annoying. The subscription pricing is way too high, but I was prepared to continue with the free version. Unfortunately Version 3 has broken the Apple Watch app and complication, which either sync with the phone unpredictably or not at all. No response from support apart from an automated excuse about being really busy. I’m looking for a replacement now

Best Calendar app I could find. About a year or two ago I went iCal crazy after finally realising how imperfect the native calendar app is. I went through just about every third party calendar in the App Store and after finding Fantastical my search was over. I think my favourite feature would be how simply it’s laid out, you can see everything you’ve got going on over the next few days just on the main screen. Highly recommend

Excellent app for calendar and to-do!. Fantastical is my favourite calendar app, having tried so many! It can pull in all of my calendars (google, outlook, apple, etc) and I can seamlessly integrate with Apple Reminders so that I can schedule in my to-do items and choose how long I want them to take [60m] for example. Great! Very happy.

Watch won’t sync. I really want an app that combines calendar with reminders, and has a useful and useable watch complication. Stumbled across fantastical and just about cheered! But despite opening the mobile app as directed and even holding my phone right beside my watch, they won’t sync, so the app is the next closest thing to useless for me right now (I can’t use my phone at work, and my PC is shared often enough that I don’t want to be setting up my schedule and reminders on it). I have a sneaking suspicion this is to do with iOS 14, so I’ll keep an eye on this and try again, but for now... no joy.

Fantastic app for working between devices. I love using this app, I’ve used countless calendar apps and I love that this has everything I need in one app. I especially appreciate having the same app working between both my MacBook and iPhone. The devs have been great to deal with, after communicating an issue with the app crashing on my iPhone they quickly fixed the issue and emailed me the fix.

Almost perfect!. With the latest update I’ve moved to Fantastical after using another calendar app for many years. I’ve looked at literally just about every calendar app there is and am now Fantastical is my calendar. And the widget is one of the best I’ve seen too. And I’m happy with the subscription model if that brings ongoing development! With the latest update this app is almost perfect. Two things and I’d give it a perfect score: 1. The new template feature is very welcomed. However, you need to be able to set a template so that it will either a) when one presses on a time it automatically inserts the time currently selected on the calendar or b) inserts the time of the original. This setting could be set when creating the template by having the voice pop up before the template is saved. 2. I’d like to see the travel time dynamically change based on the distance from the previous event in the calendar. If no previous event then from “home” or “work”. Hope all that makes sense.

Subscription? For a calendar app? No thanks.. I’ve previously purchased older versions of Fantastical and although good, it was never quite right for my requirements. Noticed that there was now a version 3 and decided to revisit the app, to see what has changed. It appears that the major change for this version is that the developers have decided to try and gouge users with a subscription model, and require a seperate sign in. Seriously? An ongoing subscription to display my calendar? It’s not like you are hosting them. The price of the subscription itself is also ridiculously high - I pay less for some video streaming services, and they actually provide content. And the requirement to sign in? Yet another company wanting my private details for no good reason. I definitely won’t be subscribing, and won’t be revisiting again.

Great but pricey. Great design and functionality. Love that different calendar views seem to have departed the premium subscription. Price strategy needs some work though. For AUD$60+ a year, I’m not 100% sure what I’m getting? Like, I subscribe to a to do app that costs me 25% less than that and the feature set and server requirements are clearly related to the cost. Here, Fantastical isn’t hosting my data, they’re just representing other services.

Trying to find something better. I’ve enjoyed trialing this app. But taking into consideration the pros and cons, it’s not working well enough for me to stick with it especially because of the cost. There are two main issues for me: 1) The little dots / bullet points are too small. Compared to iCal I’ve overlooked (missed/forgotten) more events in my calendar because it didn’t stand out enough. Why a bullet point for an event? The line style in iCal - and used across days in the horizontal - makes sense, as it communicates the duration of the event. Not to mention it’s easier to see. 2) Sometimes I want the word ‘with’ or the day of the week in the title of the event. There needs to be a way to override the predictive feature. I’ve spent way too long typing and re-typing disappeared event titles - or worse, thought the event was in my calendar, not realising the event has flown off to the wrong day.

Really good, would like some more features. This app would be 5 stars for me if it had a few more features. My top priorities are: 1. Copy and paste appointments, so it’s easy to set up the next meeting with the same client - which is usually how we end meetings. Duplicate + drag & drop doesn’t do the job when the next appointment is weeks away on a day that’s not already visible on the screen. 2. In landscape mode, have the option of snapping to the first day of the week when scrolling forward. Necessary for quickly scheduling meetings ‘in 3 weeks time’ etc. 3. In landscape mode, having an indicator when there are events earlier or later in the day than shows on the screen. All of these features are available in Calendar on the Mac, and I use them all the time Hope you can do these soon!!

Request a refund!. My advice to all the Fantastical 2 owners from Australia is to ask Apple for a refund - they will happily oblige. This blatant bait and switch tactic the developers are playing with this app breaches Australian Consumer Law and you are entitled to a remedy. Additionally, I suggest lodging a case with the ACCC as these developers should be investigated and potentially fined for this behaviour - just as Valve was with Steam. To not communicate with customers ahead of a change like this and then remove the versions of the app we paid for is not acceptable. Their false claims that version 3 includes all the version 2 functionality is laughable as the Apple Watch doesn’t even work without being forced into signing up for a cloud account that you never agreed to with the original purchase. They literally think that it’s a good business practice to demand customers trade their privacy to get these features back. I couldn’t delete this app and move on quick enough!

Features I’d expect. This is a good app. I’m using it happily, but... I was searching for a cross-platform replacement to Apple Calendar, across phone, iPad and Mac - so I’d expect a little more feature parity for the collective price tag, plus the odd extra nicety. We’re talking a collective price tag of AUD $103 for all thee apps, after all. Missing: - iCloud sync for app settings - Calendar Sets (an amazing feature on the Mac version) - Portrait week-view on iPhone (check out Calendar 5 by Readdle) - More view options, in general, to make it on parity with Google Calendar, Apple Other items: - Dark Mode is half a dark view. If I want ‘Dark’, I want all the interface to be darkened. As it stands, it’s half dark and kind of annoying - Creation of Calendars and Reminder Lists would be great. I also don’t see an option for Google Task integration.

It’s just nice to look at.. It’s a good looking app. This makes me want to look at my calendar, thus making me more organised. It’s intuitive too, especially the natural language feature. I use the Mac app as well since it sits in the menu bar nicely and it has a handy shortcut to add new events/tasks on the fly. Honestly though, other calendar apps just don’t look as nice, and I’ve recently discovered that matters to me.

Not worth it anymore. I haven’t used or needed a few premium feature in years. I feel like I’m paying for random ideas. I’ve dropped the subscription and miss a few premium features like calendar sets and the month view. Writing that down, feels ridiculous to pay $80+ a year for those two things. It was a good ride, but I’ve never been happy with Fantastical 3. The redesign reduced data density and increased overall noise in the layout. It’s just not well designed in a lot of parts for scanning your appointments. I’ll really miss the menu bar app on the Mac, but widgets do 50% of the work to replace it. Hopefully they change course with the overpriced subscription for features users don’t need or want.

Great but very expensive. Have been using Fantastical for many years, it’s a really great app, and made an outright purchase before the subscription plans started a couple of years back. I then paid for the subscription, but now after two successive price increases of 40-50% this is now simply unaffordable and I don’t derive enough value from it to justify the price, so will be downgrading to the free app and see how I go. I’ve never found background updating of my calendars to work, which is absolute basic table stakes that I would expect for a paid subscription. I’ll be shopping around for a more affordable alternative.

It’s... ok.. Fantastical 2 is a good app, but it’s not great. Want to add travel time like you can on the standard iOS calendar? You can on Mac, but you can’t on iOS. Want to use the group calendar lists on iOS like you can on Mac? Sorry, for no apparent reason, you can’t. This app has been out for years and is missing things that have no reason not to exist by now. The support is really good and I love how flexible the repeat options are. But really, it’s only slightly better than the standard iOS one, and in some ways worse.

Third time I love it. I’ve tried Fantastical three times. I couldn’t understand the interface at first. But now I love it for three reasons: I can see another time zone which helps me schedule meetings with clients overseas; I can propose times for meetings and have colleagues choose the one that suits them, and that goes right into my calendar; and I can send a link that shows when I’m available so people can also select from a broader set of possibilities. These are excellent features, and on top of all that, the app is beautifully made—a delight to use.

Brilliant but buggy. This app is essential to my workflow, and I use it daily. Having tasks and calendar together is essential for me. However I’ve been disappointed by the degree of bugs for an app that has been around as long as Fantastical. In particular, the home screen widget doesn’t update – showing tasks and events from several days ago instead of today. I’ve contacted support for this but after weeks of waiting I have no solution. Reminders are also buggy, often freezing the app. Great potential, but it needs some love.

Increase in subscription cost without adding value. Let me preface this with the following: - I’m not against subscriptions. If it means developers have an ongoing income and make my app better - I’m happy to support them. - I didn’t have an issue with Fantastical switching to this model from the original. So far so good. Now - what I DO have a problem with, is the price of this sub going from 65/year AUD to 100. Broken down over a monthly cost that might not seem too bad, but they aren’t the only app charging 65/year. The monthly bill adds up quick. And simply put, the increase comes for very little increase in value. Few genuinely meaningful feature updates. Cardhop (which is also part of the sub) feeling almost lite abandonware and having a terrible Mac interface. It comes down to the value proposition no longer making sense, when it’s just one tool of many in a pro’s toolbox. Would flexibits rather have 65 dollars of mine in their account, - or zero? And is it genuinely worth losing customer numbers and goodwill for a few extra bucks, without a sensible justification?

Massive Backfire!. As you can by now no doubt see, this app is being slammed for adding a subscription fee when untold users had already paid for the application over the last however many years. Delighted to see users standing up for themselves and slamming this developer for introducing a subscription for features that are just simply not necessary in a calendar app. 2020 is the year that we say “No!” to this money grabbing tactic. We purchased a working app the overwhelming majority of us loved, and the developer has chosen to take this away. To the developer: I suggest the developer looks at Readdle as a shining example of the way to proceed in a crowded app-filled world. They produce absolute first rate, top quality apps and keep their loyal fan base by not billing subscriptions but instead widening their breadth of applications. If you want to make money off of a new version, that’s fine, but don’t screw over your loyal fan base - you are receiving tons of 1 star reviews because you didn’t let users have a choice - keep their existing and paid for app or choose to pay 1 time for an upgrade.

The last straw. I’ve been a Fantastical user for 5 years. I paid for the app in full and use it across all my devices. Then they introduced the subscription model and along with it, a fee that is simply eye-watering. A lot of standard features suddenly commanded a premium. But the ‘free’ version retained all the features I really needed so I figured I’d stick with it. The devs must have read my mind, because the one feature I really loved was the Apple Watch syncing. It was really handy to see my next meeting on right there on the watch face…except now you can’t without subscribing. So that’s it, you’ve lost a fan and a customer.

Love the app. I’m paying for the app and loving loving how it pulls in multiple different calendars simply and is easily customizable in a user-friendly way. I love how it organizes my time so well. I think the only downfall is that the ‘week view’ isn’t very intuitive. It would be great if the text size on ‘week-view’ (phone app) could be smaller or edited/displayed similarly to GoogleCalendar (or even to how the Fantastical Mac app displays the week view), as the current view on iPhone is very difficult to see and use (events, locations, times etc).

Default Reminders Don’t Work. After scouring online reviews, I bought this app for the sole purpose of being able to set up multiple alerts to remind you of events in your calendar. It would even appear that you can set up to five default alerts at different time intervals which I was initially so excited about. However every time I set up a new calendar event, the default alert reverts to the one set closest to the event and the rest don’t work. Needless to say the function is no better than outlooks singular reminder for events. I wasn’t able to find any online help topics on this either. It’s a complete waste of money for me and sorely disappointing as I thought I had finally found a solution to what I needed which is a calendar that has the ability to create multiple default reminders for events.

Needs premium. It looks great but if you’re happy with an app that visually takes up over 50% of the screen reminding you that you don’t have flexibits premium subscription for a calendar. Otherwise look for an alternative. Developer response appears to force you to try the free trial and then not make the mistake of clicking on a premium feature link which is still half enabled and makes half of the screen Realestate into a large flexibits premium ad again. There are no instructions in app to support the assertion being made about what is available to be viewed. Bad ux design pre-flexibits premium upgrade.

It's pretty meh compared to iCal. Yeah it's alright, but with Apple making constant improvements to iCal it's now made it harder to justify the spend. I enjoy supporting these kind of projects, though the Dev isn't really open to suggestions/ features to improve the platform; they're happy to plod along and release mediocre features every once in a while and charge a monthly fee. The closed response to improvement suggestions was the nail in the coffin and I will not be renewing my annual subscription in 2022. Sure it's got a couple nice features integrations, but without improvements over time what's the point. This App is reminiscent of the Evernote ship, that was a force and now is just pffftt to the free alternatives.

Huge failure. Fantastical isn’t a calendar service, it displays your calendars. In my case I already pay a monthly subscription for Office 365, they handle my calendar. Fantastical is a utility app that gave me a better way of viewing my calendars from Office 365 on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. Why would I pay for an additional monthly subscription for such a utility that displays my calendars? If you were providing the cloud based calendaring service, then maybe that would justify a subscription cost. This is a ridiculous business model, your app did one thing and did it well. I bought it v1 and v2 across all my devices, and it was worth that money. The app doesn’t need more features, what it did was great. It looks like you realised you can’t build a sustainable business on a one-trick-pony app, and lazily decided to introduce a subscription to keep money coming. You once made a great app. If you needed more money or wanted to expand the business, you should have come up with a new app idea, or new services that add value to customers. This is just rampant exploitation and greed that disrespects the people that gave you a business to begin with.

Waiting 2 weeks for support to reply. Disgraceful.. I’ve had an issue for some weeks now and I emailed support with an automated response but its been two weeks now and no reply as yet. This company has no regard for customers or supporting the issues they create. It only wants your money. Disgusting. I happily paid full price for the iPhone app. I happily paid full price for the iPad app (couldn’t use it as the UI was utterly horrible). Regular bug fixes, nice thank you. Now, without any warning you turn into a subscription app and current paid up users have no choice but to sign up for an account to let them take MY data and have it sit on their servers for anyone to hack!! Now you break the Apple Watch app too!! Get stuffed. They give you no option to opt out, they don’t give you any information on how your data is being stored. The don’t explain what security they have in place to protect our data. They treat their loyal customers like lab rats and don’t expect any blow back? You deserve to fail if this is what you think of your loyal customers. Whoever told you this was a great move, sack them! Sack them right now! Your dumb arrogance and greed has blinded your ration minds. Now suffer the consequences. I hope you read ALL the online reviews. Ignore them at your peril. Ta ta fantastical. You just screwed the pooch.

Worse than Apple Calendar. There is absolutely no sense in getting the free version of this app and plugging it into your Apple Calendar, rather than simply using Apple Calendar itself. The interface is clunky and inferior to Apple. You can’t switch easily between month, week and day views, you can’t add travel time without a subscription and you can’t change the calendar colour without a subscription. Adding events is frustrating as it’s counterintuitive - you need to tap on the start edge line of the hour you want to start it at, for example, instead of tapping in the middle of the hour space. Not worth even trying for free.

One of the best!. I love this particular app as it’s the only one that I have found that will do a search for events that are older than a year. Search results go as far back to your very first entry. Thank you so much for that as it has made a HUGE difference to me 😀👍. I also am a big fan of calendar events and reminders all showing up in the same view. Worth every cent!

Long time user, deeply disappointed. Have used the premium version for years and sing its praises to everyone, however i am DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED with the change. The new layout and design of daily events has created a cluttered view which is not conducive to fast and easy reading when you have many events in one day. It is cluttered and messy to view and use. For a previously brilliant calendar layout, there really should be an option to choose the old version for users who were happy with your product as is.

No longer “Fantastical” Deleted.. No reason to push a subscription in an app that already cost about $8AUD on iOS and $80AUD on Mac. Fantastical 3 should have been a seperate app and not have interfered with version 2. As you can see from all the bad reviews on here and twitter this was a bad decision so hopefully you can revert or offer a “fair” lifetime price otherwise we won’t be coming back. Anyone reading can get a refund from Apple Support by saying the app you bought is now a subscription and I’d recommend calendar by readdle which is a one time purchase and they seem to be a bit more with it and care for their users and are not all about money.

Major bait and switch. For those of us that bought the app when it was a one-off purchase, we have now been locked out of basic features (can’t invite attendees, can’t see hidden events). We also now need to transmit our calendar data to the developers to get sync working with the watch like it was before. This move to subscription with no warning was a really scummy move - jamming constant ads to upgrade in a premium app - and I for one can’t support this kind of developer behaviour. I want my money back, and I’m going to something else.

Keeps my life together. I've been using Fantastical for over a year and a half and it's never skipped a beat. I particularly find its widget in the home screen helpful as it shows my whole week (or month) at a glance. I use multiple calendars that are colour-coded so I know what's coming up; whether it's work related, social, an upcoming bill, or something else. I use it to set reminders, which have become second nature due to how easy it is, and everything has synced up nicely with my work Outlook account. I've changed jobs in between and it's worked great with both accounts. I figured it was time to write a review seeing as though I use this app so much - it's made me a more productive person and is one of the few apps that I can say has had a major positive impact on my life. Thanks to the team at Fantastical!!

If you use the calendar on iOS.... I’m not going to go over features and tell you how awesome this app is. I’m not going to tell you how much more this app will do or how much easier it is to use than the default iOS app. What I’m going to say is the usefulness of this app is up to you. If you use the iOS calendar once or twice a month or just to remember family birthdays you are not going to see much difference between this app and what comes with iOS. But if you use it every week you’ll start to see how this app is easier to do some things. If you use a calendar daily on iOS you will start to sing its praises. If you use it hourly you will swear it is one of the best apps you have ever used and if you didn’t have it now you wouldn’t use a calendar on iOS at all. So how awesome is this app? It’s up to you.

Great app, widgets need improvement. Thanks for the great app - predictive functionality adding events makes usage very streamlined (as long as you confirm what the app has predicted before adding the event) BUT the widgets need improvement - too much blank space, especially in calendar+event list views, where it will often display, for eg. “two all-day events” where there is a lines worth of space underneath that statement so surely it should just display both events???! Perhaps even being able to adjust the font size in widgets to fit in more text would be great. Otherwise thank you, long time loyal user!

Please give option to disable natural language!. Natural language input is great, however sometimes you want to set a reminder that at a glance you can read with a time but natural language corrects it and can’t be disabled - For example ‘Meet Bill for shopping at 3pm’ - I may want this to be an entry with an alert for 1pm to remind me this is coming yet Fantastical will change it to ‘Meet Bill for shopping’. Other apps like Due do this, however you can tap and get it to revert to original text AND have the effect of the natural input

suggestion query. Hi. I’ve been using fantastical for over two years now, I love it. One thing I find a little frustrating is remembering which events/reminders I’ve written notes or added URLs in. My suggestion is for perhaps a way to indicate that an event/reminder has something written in the notes/URL section when you’re scrolling through all your upcoming events/reminders. Just a small visual cue of some sort. Cheers.

Great app but missing one great feature!. I have had this app for ages, on multiple devices and I am so happy with the update and the new features and subscriptions! The only thing I’m really missing is the option in events to show as busy or free! Other than that, I highly recommend this calendar app, the layout and aesthetic are gorgeous and it is so easy to use, but has the more in depth and complex tweaking that would suit any user!

Incomparable. I have been using Fantastical for six years. For anyone who regularly uses a calendar, in my opinion there is nothing which comes even close to it. It is the Rolls Royce of calendars. The current version, which was released at the beginning of the year, has many new features. The support team are highly skilled, efficient and very helpful.

Hard Lesson for Flexbits. Guys, you deserve compensation for the good products you produce, but you have to smart about how you do it. As a consumer, here’s my two cents: - don’t gouge existing users when you move to a subscription model. We’ll rebel; and - don’t force people to create accounts. People are sick of giving away their data. In my opinion the team that produce the Agenda app have a good model in place and it’s worth checking out. I’m giving you a four star review instead of five because of the account introduction. I’m also recognising that you’ve corrected the issue of restricting features previously available to your exisiting version 2 users. Hopefully the scathing reviews you’ve received are a warning to other app developers. —Edit— Downgrading to two stars because the subscription model you gone for is poorly priced, plus the new interface contains icons that do nothing except remind non subscribers to subscribe. This really is disappointing. Like others, I’ve also paid for the Mac version and had the app over 6 years. I’m hoping you enable a rollback to version 2. I’d be happy to stop there.

Extremely Disappointed... app deleted now. I understand that businesses need to adapt to continue being viable and to offer high quality products. While I don’t fully agree the subscription based model I don’t condene it either. The updated app (Fantastical 3) is a bit buggy, asks to create and account, spams You to upgrade and severely limits the usability for those of us who come from a fully paid fantastical 2. “New” features are not worth the hefty monthly and yearly costs. I am (or was?) a supporter of the app, always recommended to everyone, and have bought all the versions - iPad, iPhone and Mac. However, I feel betrayed by the developers. This is hard for those of us who have supported the apps doing multi-platform purchase, considering that I have invested more >50usd (>65 AUD). We should have gotten a better deal to convince us to upgrade. I find hard to justify the payment of yet another subscription, more so for a calendar now that Apple (and other) are closing the gap. Good bye fantastical, you use to be a friend but you have betrayed my trust.

Simply the best calendar app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Worth every penny - integrates reminders and invites from Outlook, Gmail, and iCloud, and brings across colour-coding in Outlook calendar entries too (why doesn’t iOS calendar do this?). Love seeing timed reminders in the calendar rather than a separate app. I tried going back to the standard Apple calendar app but couldn’t live without the awesome features in Fantastical. Love it on iPad and Mac too.

New GUI is painful!. Why just did you need to break a perfectly good user interface with this update. All-day events are squashed up at the top as slim lines, almost impossible to pick out a particular one with touchscreens (always get the wrong one!). Plus, you can't hide the day view when the left side has the calendar open, you basically double up on the same info. Moreover, when DAY is selected as display option, a full wide line is used up with dead space for each event. Looks hideous and so 80's! Not impressed with this update at all.

Not so Fantastical Anymore. Sorry guys, I was a massive user of Fantastical 2 on my iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch and everything was working perfectly. Moving to a subscription based model is a big mistake and the redesign of this app is just horrible. After upgrading to version 3, my watch app doesn’t even work/sync with my iPhone anymore so renders the app useless to me for my day to day needs. There are too many subscriptions for apps these days and although I understand developers need to make money I simply refuse to pay a subscription for a calendar app that has become worse over time. It’s a shame now that I paid for version 2 as it was a worthy upgrade but with version 3, you’ve killed my favourite app and left your loyal customers hanging out to dry. Sorry guys but I’ll be moving to a different calendar app now. One that doesn’t get greedy charging monthly subscription fees for minimal upgrades and one that actually works on my watch. Fantastical WAS fantastic but now it’s a Fantastifail for me.

Brilliant (for the most part). Really feels like the winner of the best calendar app on any platform. Works extremely solidly, and does everything I need it to, although the yearly subscription does feel a little rich. I would really appreciate the ability to theme the app (make it something other than red). Also on big phones having the main controls in the top left is a bit of a pain, it’d be great to be able to adjust this. Minor gripes aside, it’s so good that anything other than 5 stars would feel mean.

The sheer arrogance and audacity of this developer is beyond belief!. I paid full price for this app and today without notice, I am no longer able to use it without creating an account with the developer. I don’t want to create an account, but I am now unable to use this app that I paid FULL PRICE FOR any longer without being bullied into creating an account. Beyond this, they are now telling me I also need to PAY A SUBSCRIPTION on top of the FULL PRICE I ALREADY PAID THEM! Absolutely, absolute rip off and theft. Don’t have anything to do with this ridiculous app. Use the Apple Calendar or Calendars 5 instead.

Very Disappointed With Version 3!. I used to love this app, but then Fantastical 2 was “upgraded” to version 3, earlier this year, and not only did I lose functionality, but the whole look and feel of the app is much worse than it used to be! I really don’t understand why they decided to make the dramatic backward changes they did! As for the change to a subscription model: I’m sorry, but this app doesn’t offer anything extra on a monthly basis that would make it worth paying over and over again, for a product that I was perfectly happy with before! There are apps for which a subscription model is appropriate, but this isn’t one of them! Subscriptions have just become a big money-making scheme for businesses that aren’t offering any added value for the money! I am now going to look for a better, nob-subscription based option.

High price for average app. The price is ridiculous but enough people have rented about that. What happened with me is that even though I paid for a year, I stopped using the calendar after a month and reverted back to native iOS. Creating events and inviting someone is way more tedious than the native app. When inviting people, it doesn’t remember last added contacts so I each time have to type the entire email address. There are other clocks needed that you don’t need in other apps just to get an entry going. Lastly, the invites that people get look different and the ‘accept’ button prompts them to google rather than accepting in app. All in all, I don’t use this app anymore -irrespective of whether it’s paid or for free…

Paid Once now Expected to Pay Again. Stay away from this application. I had to pay to get this app and now because they decided to change direction I am expected to pay again to get premium. I doubt this changes in the future, so unless you like giving away your money do not use. Tried to send the developers an email asking why I should pay again and received NO RESPONSE!

50$/year calendar?. lol on what planet does the dev team think they are. There is no justification in asking for such a price just for a calendar. 50$ a year for a calendar!? Seriously let that sink in for a minute... 50$

Greed will be your downfall. Don’t force upgrades on people who spent money to purchase a complete app. Shame on you.

Now useless!!. After version 3 update my Apple watch refuses to sync. Constant nagging to pay greedy subscription price. This app, which I have used for a long time, is now USELESS. Goodbye.

A Real Ripoff. I paid for this app about 5 years ago. Now the company has unilaterally blocked me from using it unless I pay a subscription. The company has not given previous buyers any alternative like continuing to use my purchase, or buying the new version. In the meantime Apple’s Calender app has been improved so much, I recommend like me, you all DITCH FANTASTICAL AND USE APPLE’S CALENDAR.

Forceful subscription. I already bought Fantastical 2, but I am so offended as a consumer that I had no choice to be forced into a subscription model now. Very bad business practice, and I will be looking for a new app to switch to now. If they made a new fantastical 3 as a separate app, I would be ok with that. But the fact that I had already BOUGHT this, and am now forced to spend more money to continue using it is not okay. Sorry, you guys need to re-evaluate how to do business.

Fantastical no longer Fantastic. 1) The new subscription model is terrible: the features aren’t worth $5 per month. 2) I already paid for an app that worked for me and you decided to replace that with a free version that bugs you to subscribe all the time. 3) It is no longer syncing with my Apple Watch. They “know it’s broken, and they are working on it.” Which means they know it’s not working but they still want you to pay a subscription in the meantime lol 4) they want you to have an account with them even to use the free version. Everyone wants your data these days... now they do too. Don’t worry though, you can “trust them” with your data just as you “trusted them” by paying for an app that they replaced with adware.

Bring back one time purchase model. No subscription model

Not a Fan. When I originally purchased this app a year ago, I was happy I finally found a calendar that could do it all. Not so happy with the recent changes forcing everyone to move to a subscription model. Features I originally paid for are now all gone and I’m being forced to get the subscription to get the features back. If there was a way to switch back to the original app, I would 100% just do that.

Ruined by subscription. This used to be my go to calendar app, but not anymore! You removed features that I paid for in version 2 and now I get constant nagging to subscribe to remove all of these newly introduced artificial limitations in version 3. Uninstalled from my iPhone, iPad & MacBook.

Subscription Lost Me. I was a fan of version 2, but this new subscription model has lost me. I will likely be finding a new calendar app that is free, or going back to the stock app.

Man, what a flip.. I’ve been using this app since the beginning. Paid for v1 & v2. And now get saddled with a subscription base app. Really expensive when I compare it to Office365 which I pay the same for. Hardly a comparison. We make your company and now you gouge us. Time to leave.

Account + Annual Subscription Required. I accidentally hit Update All. Hello v3. Here is just SOME of my experience: First, while F3 provides new functionality, much is misguided. E.g. Adding weather doesn’t make a better calendar, it‘s just more info. Second, as a past purchaser, I do NOT have access to all the functionality I had with F2. Their claim is misleading. Basic electronic calendar functionality provides day/week/month/year views. Now, I have to pay a subscription fee for this. Third, there are sooo many bugs now, and F3 randomly ditches my events after entry. There is a great deal of development, complexity, and ongoing infrastructure cost required to support the new functionality in F3. This should have been where a subscription was applied, not for preexisting functionality. Flexibits’ AppStore responses are confusing and simply don’t make sense. Most don’t match the comments they’re attached to, almost as if they are replying to wrong comment. Lately, some responses are short and have attitude, like bitter retorts. Unfortunately, they haven’t replied to the overwhelming majority. This is such a lost opportunity. Why have I bothered to write such long reviews? It’s simple: bugs aside, Fantastical 2 was by far the best calendar app in the AppStore! F2 was an integral part of my workflow. F3? Unfortunately, my new rating stands, and I deleted the app. ——— This app now requires a Flexibits account + annual subscription. NO to both! I had been using Fantastical for several years, but no longer. When switching monetization methods from “pay once” to subscription, they clearly upset most customers. I personally believe they should have left Fantastical 2 as its own app and launched Fantastical 3 separately on the App Store. However, I don’t think most customers would have purchased the subscription, and v3 wouldn’t have benefited from all the positive v2 reviews. Well, I guess the plummeting rating shows how well that ploy worked. Fantastical 3 is drastically over-priced. Fantastical provides/hosts neither the calendar service nor the tasks service. They simply connect to an existing service (which has its own cost) using Apple’s provided connection functionality. Sure, they do a nice job displaying and organizing, and they provide a little more flexibility with reminders than Apple does, but is it worth paying over $60 (with tax) a year? Not in my book. I don’t care about including the weather forecast in a calendar app. It’s already natively built into my phone, which includes a widget, and I also have The Weather Network’s app installed for when I want more detail or alerts. This is not a selling feature for a calendar. Natural language entry? It’s far too buggy. I can enter precise event details faster without it, and when I do use their natural language functionality, it too often misinterprets details, which forces me to then manually edit and correct the event anyway. What’s the point? If it took longer to manually enter details, I really don’t think I’d suffer the loss of a few seconds out of my life. What is very frustrating is when I manually correct the errors, and then complete the event, and it dumps the event instead of saving it. (An option to turn on/off NL entry would have saved me the repeated grief.) Looking at the latest fixes, Flexibits finally fixed *some* of the issues that have been plaguing me since I first started using Fantastical. I’m not upgrading to v3, so no fixes for me. All the other bugs are still there ... plus many new issues. If Flexibits had forked Fantastical 3, so it was a separate, one-time purchase, I would have purchased it, even if just to support further development, except ... Under NO circumstances will I ever use this software if I’m required to create a Flexibits account — especially considering that it offers zero added functionality, it now requires that I put my personal data on yet another 3rd-party’s servers, and the only real reason they’re doing this is to try and circumvent Apple’s policy of family members being able to share App Store accounts, meaning that each user will need to pay for the app. Fantastical 2 users retain all of their previous functionality? Read the other reviews with examples of where this is clearly NOT the case. Note the comments about all the subscription nagging. Who over at Flexibits who thought this was a good strategy? Even worse, who signed off on it? Swallow your pride. Get rid of the subscription, and charge a flat rate. Get rid of the need for an account! You clearly see the trend and customer responses. Do you think it’s going to suddenly improve? And for heaven’s sake, fix all the damned bugs already, instead of adding more. ——————— Original review: Fantastical is a much better calendar app than Apple's, but that isn't saying much given how little effort Apple puts into their base iOS apps. Fantastical is still buggy, and these are the same bugs that have been there since I started using it (events that change date once saved, events that disappear on save and have to be recreated, inconsistent results in the AI when creating the same event on different days, and some small things that escape me right now). Thankfully, these don't happen too often, but it causes me to have to double-check every time to be sure, and it can be frustrating when someone is being patient enough to wait as I schedule an appointment with them, only to have to start over. Still, it's MUCH better than Apple's, and it's better than others I've tried. Requests: Fix the bugs. Provide a preference toggle in settings to set the default for an All Day Event, so I can shut that off. I almost never set events as All Day, so I always have to turn that off when creating new events. Integrate To Do with providers other than Apple's. (Google's would be nice.) Apple's may be an easy add-on, but it's wasted for the greater number of people using the much more widely used services out there.

Scammed their users. Literally scammed their users by going to subscription-based and taking away features from users that paid for their app.

Zero respect for paying customers. So we pay for an app and now you want us to pay for it again? If you want to switch the subscription model that's fine but leaving your existing PAYING customers in the dust is despicable.

Unfortunate. I used to rave about fantastical and how it’s the best calendar app available on iOS. It’s now been a year since we were forced in to a new update that stripped previously paid for features and turned in to a subscription model. Not impressed.

Switched to Calendars 5 because of cost. This is actually ridiculously expensive for what it offers. The prices are some of the highest subscription prices I have seen for such a simplistic type of app. I switched to Calendars 5 which offers me virtually the exact same product. But at a one time fee... which is also reasonable. Sad to see greed take over a calendar app.

No longer full featured. If you want a sure fire way to miss meetings updates and new event invites, get this app. Unless you subscribe for $60 a year, calendar updates don’t get pushed to your device. Sad that this app is held back by a subscription, wish they could just charge a higher up front price.

Disappointing. I have been a loyal Fantastical user since it was introduced. Having purchased both version 1 and 2, I was surprised to find that I now had to pay for features I already paid for. Deleted the app and won’t return.

Bad move. Went from favorite to worst calendar app in one upgrade. Need to pay 55$+ per year to be able to use it !!! Scam... Goodbye I paid for the first version, then you offered it for free, I now you want a lot of money for it. I was happy with version 2, but you sent that upgrade that now useless until you pay.

Goodbye. Been Fantastical user since it came out, for the most part thot it was fair value for what u got. No more, done!

Scummy business model. Tracking the updates: more “features” added over the past 6 months that don’t add any benefit to a calendar app! I used this app since sometime in 2013. Thankfully forgot to do the update to the new subscription model, but I’ll never give them any more of my money. I hope more users vote 1 star on here to save others the time of finding out for themselves. I’ll be looking for something else that does better while my version of this is eventually killed off.

Have to pay again?. Bought this app years ago and now they moved their model to in-app subscriptions. They should have grandfathered in those who paid already.

Confused about the change. Why does it feel like the version I’ve paid for is a lot lighter with the upgrade to the latest version? I’m continually being plagued with notifications to upgrade to a subscription to get the features I was previously used to. I’m quite disappointed. Guess I’ll be switching to the default calendar app on both my iPhone and Mac...

Another (formerly) great app bites the dust. Fantastical used to be a robust and reliable calendar app. Unfortunately its developers have decided that fleecing their paying customers by bloating it out with features that require an account and a monthly subscription is more important than integrity and quality control. If you think the least developers who want to perpetually charge customers for a few crappy features could do is make sure their app works reliably, well, prepare to be disappointed. The devs love their customers so much they’ve let Fantastical become a buggy unreliable app while expecting us to give them money every month. The classic Today view widget doesn’t even work on iPhone anymore. It still works on iPad where it’s not as useful. Way to go guys 👍 Apple letting developers pull a bait and switch move to monthly subscriptions on customers who’ve already paid for an app is seriously lame. Imagine buying a car that works normally for a few months and then finding out you have to buy a monthly subscription to continue getting the fully functional vehicle you already paid for. It’s not an honest way of doing business. Letting developers charge monthly and even weekly subscription fees for basic features has filled the AppStore with crappy subpar apps and developers looking to make an easy buck fleecing their customers. Fantastical used to have a very high rating. Now it’s at 2.5 stars and falling. Stop ripping off your customers and fix your app and maybe it will rise again. If it’s not fixed in a few weeks I’m deleting it for good.

Loosing a loyal customer. So, I have been using this app for a couple years now. I love... sorry, loved it up until yesterday. I run my whole life off this app and it has been reliable and easy to navigate. Not now! I was not able to use this app yesterday due to you trying to make me sign up for an account. I now have to pay for features??? Really?? I already paid. It just became cumbersome trying to navigate through all the “remind me laters” and sign up for this crap and that crap over there too. Sad really, that companies do this to try to generate more revenue on the backs of those that use their product. A quick market study would have easily shown that the people using this app want simple, both in use and visual, navigation. You had that and now you blew it. See ya! My best advice is to avoid this app. I’m deleting it now. Edit: Two weeks later and I’ve tried a couple apps. Found a nice simple one to replace this one. The quick releases of updates, IMHO, is just their way of trying to bury reviews. Shame.

Once a fantastic app... now just a disappointment.. It was great, until the developers got greedy and started charging for options you could use before or new options that don’t justify the premium cost. Paid for the iOS and Mac version and now they ask me to pay more again on a subscription basis. It is really too bad and really disappointing that it has come to this.... hope it was worth it.. you lost a loyal Fantastical user that supported you from the start.

Create an account for a calendar?. Title says it all, give me a break. I’m a software engineer myself and this is just ridiculous.

Absolutely disappointed with the change to subscription based pricing. I’ve been a Fantastical user for several years, purchasing version 1 and 2 for iOS as well as 1 and 2 on Mac and though I do like the UI, I am disgusted with the trend of moving to subscriptions vice 1 time purchase. Sure, I get the same features in version 3 as I did in version 2 but if I would like to try (and probably keep it long term) any of the new features, my only option is to subscribe to a CAD$52.99/yr service for A CALENDAR APP??? After I’ve already paid over CAD$100 for previous purchases? Is flexibits aware of what competitors are offering? Readdle offers their Calendars 5 app for a 1 time purchase of $9.99 and then a feature like “interesting calendars” in 3 options; 1 month subscription for under $1, 3 month for under $3 or LIFETIME for under $10. Sure, this app is not quite as pretty but arguably more functional. Say I use a calendar app for 2 years, is the pretty interface with equivalent features really worth $100 more than the competition? Nope. Say I use it for 6 years and the competitor charges $10 every 2 years for major version upgrades; Fantastical @ $212 vs competitor at $30. I know which I’m going with and it isn’t Fantastical. The settings are now littered with “premium features”, such as time to leave alerts and slight tweaks to the calendar and prompts to buy the subscription. Slight tweaks are not worth hundreds of dollars over time when the default apps are constantly improving and already offer time to leave alerts. I hope you’ll reconsider your pricing strategy. I would pay up to $19.99 for a premium CALENDAR app that is supported for at least 2 years but I’m done with subscriptions and done with this app until that time.

Rip off. First we had to pay for the app they now offer for free and added a subscription. Screw that’s use some other calendar app instead of this money grupping app.

Gross update! Goodbye liars!. I shouldn’t have updated the app. Give me refund if you require subscription. Also, it doesn’t sync with my Apple Watch. Gonna use Apple’s own calendar app. Worst experience! Goodbye liars!

No grandfathering to people who paid?. I get the switch to a subscription-based model — but what about the people who paid for it in the past? Moleskine’s Timepage app gave all members who paid for the app before the subscription began a free subscription. And Fantastical does nothing? Disappointed to say the least. Moreover, primary functionality features that existing users have paid for have been removed in lieu of the subscription. Not only is this wrong, but it’s a violation of section 3.1.2(a) point 7, of the App Store Review Guidelines.

Subscription price increased to 10$/month. Great app but 10$/month for a calendar is too much. With the greed and the new price increases i’ll have to quit using it. Unfortunate since i discovered it a few months ago.

Disappointed. Very disappointed that you’ve gone to a subscription model. I would rather pay for an upgrade than pay 50 bucks a year. As more companies as yourselves move to subscriptions I will look for either other options that allow me to own the software or just simply use Apple’s default apps. I will not be updating this app.

Not happy anymore. Not happy with the new changes in v3 and I am not a fan of the subscription model. I would rather have the choice to pay for an upgrade or stick with an older version. I hope you may reconsider this switch. Time to find something else to use...

You lost me. You lost me with this subscription upgrade. I paid for the product since the beginning, but now it’s really expensive for what I need. Going back to Calendar.

Don’t appreciate the lies. Sorry but it’s a no for me . Sneaky app

How to ruin a great app. Fantastical has been the best calendar app for many years and I depended on it for everything - until today and the new upgrade to F3. What made it great before was that it was just a kickass calendar. To the powers to be that obviously wasn’t enough. Now, it wants to be more and it’s a hard fail. The “premium service” reminders are already all over the place and will most likely drive me away. If I wanted something other than just a great calendar I would have had lots of options to choose from. Very, very disappointing. Not to mention that this initially was a premium product that now wants an extreme premium subscription or hound you with ads for it. I couldn’t be more unimpressed. Save your money and source other options, I’ll have to do the same.

Now we pay?. I get Office 365 for the same amount. Fantastical, you’re good, but not that good. Time to delete.

Overpriced subscription model. They’ve taken what once was a decent calendar app and monetized it to no end. It’s way overpriced for the functionality that you get, and there are far better alternative options out there that are cheaper and have less bugs. Who needs the weather on a calendar app? Who doesn’t have a specific weather app on their device?

Broken and now with very expensive subscription. Not only is it now on a very expensive subscription: - There’s constant ads nagging to get you to pay them more money. Even if you own the previous version. - The Watch app is now broken. You cannot used the watch app at all until you create one of their accounts.

Ruined a great app. So disappointed at the recent changes...going to be looking for an alternative. I didn’t pay 60+ dollars for the Mac and iPhone apps to now have to pay even more for a subscription. This used to be the best app on the market and now it’s ruined.

Fed up with subscriptions. Fed up with the subscription models

Was 5/5 star until.... the subscription service came. Should have 2 separate apps, not downgrade Fantastical 2 users and put ads for the subscription everywhere. $52.99+ tax a year, forget it. $25/yr max, even then I’d probably skip it.

Stay away.. Yesterday I had a fully functioning app that synced great with my watch. A nice little vibration to remind me of a meeting. Today I’m constantly being nagged to subscribe to premium. I was late for a meeting because there was no handy vibration. Why? Because of an auto-update that has ruined this software. Want to sync to an Apple Watch, well now you need to create an account in their server. And the developer is being “overly generous” (their actual words in a Tweet) in giving the F2 users all the functionality they had & then some. I paid for those features, I expect to keep them if you’re forcing a new version on me. If I could give them 0 stars I would.

Greedy jerks. App was great now they went down the rabbit hole of trying to make you pay a subscription to change the damn icon...like really? I’ve been such a fan of this app now I can’t wait to find a replacement. This is what happens when a small company produces a good app they get greedy. I’m not paying for this app twice you money stealing jerks.

RIP Fantastical. This app has been stolen from existing users and replaced with some buggy freemium garbage. I literally feel sick seeing what has been done to this app. No respect shown to existing users. The excuse that existing features work does not cut it when the app is clearly designed to make you feel like you are getting a nerfed version unless you pay for an expensive subscription. I want a refund and an apology.

No Longer The Best. It is unfortunate that I got sucked in and paid for a yearly subscription, and now with the latest update the app is asking for my password every two minutes. I don’t have time for this. Fix the app or refund my money.

Great app turned poor due to greed.. This was hands-down the best calendar and task app. Cleanest interface with great controls, and then the “overly generous” devs started to do a subscription model. I get it, you gotta make money to run a business- but this was clearly the wrong decision as I have seen this app go from 5 stars to 2 stars in rating. There must be an alternative such as raising the one-time-fee up and not requiring login to their account system. I’m more than willing to pay a subscription if other calendar apps aren’t doing the same thing as this app, with a little less flair. I’ve deleted this and moved on to something else.

A year and some later…. Still hate the fact that you guys went subscription… What a shame… Once been a great app… Now… Worthless…

Great app other than the new subscription model.. I have been using the app well before the app went to the subscription model. I understand the advantages for developers to move to a subscription based model, however the I wish it wasn’t an update with new features dangeling behind a paywall. Honestly I was happy the applicaiton prior to the update. Subscription apps feel as if you purchased a car, and one day you find that you want to listen to some music and turn on the AC, when you go to turn on the radio it states “you did not pay to use the radio” To me I’d rather not see the radio if I didn’t purchase it. I would gladly give it 5 stars if the premium features were hidden or the new subscription model was a new app. I purchsed the application for three platforms Mac OS, iPad, and iPhone and the subscription is a good value for what you get, I am just not a fan a software being a monthly or annual bill.

Happy but need help. Very happy with the app. I listened to the guys on the connected podcast talk about what you have done and your business model and how you’ve structured yourself. I don’t mind a subscription if it means more updates, more bug fixes, and better support. Speaking of support I could not find a way to get help with an issue I’m having. I can’t connect my todoist account on my iPhone. The set up works on my Mac and my iPad but not on my iPhone. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling, disconnecting my iPad and my Mac from todoist with in fantastical and then connecting with in the iPhone first... still no success. I’ve tried to add an existing account and I’ve tried to add todoist from new. No matter what I do it also ask me for permission to connect. I say yes connect. It tries to open a browser window then goes blank and then the browser window goes away. It’s trying to connect but it just doesn’t. Help!

Excellent calendar and reminder app!. I'd heard good things about Fantastical for a long time, but held back because of price and my worry about integration compared to the Apple apps (Calendar and Reminders). Turns out, Fantastical does a great job integrating. And the GUI for both this iPhone app and the Mac app (I purchased both at once, 3 weeks before writing this review) is really nice. It has helped quite a bit with my family calendar, which is crowded. I was having trouble staying on top of it all with Calendar. And I used Reminders occasionally, but it being a separate app was a barrier. Now, using Fantastical, I'm finding things easier and even more fun. I like using Siri to set reminders and then I can see them on my Fantastical calendar. I find the navigation much nicer on a calendar with many items. I hope this app has a long life. I’m a complete convert and wouldn’t want to do without it.

My favorite scheduling tool. I've used this app for years and appreciate that they continue adding useful features. I manage many calendars, and the calendar sets are super helpful to quickly change my calendar views. The quick weather glance is nice as I plan. I use the URL handler to increase the ease and decrease my user errors when adding multiple events. And I discovered the Openings feature this year which has made scheduling meetings SOOO much easier—double-check that my calendars are current, send a link, and say pick a time. Managing schedules takes work and requires a ton of attention to detail at every step—events, tasks, details, different time zones, changes, adding multiple events. Fantastical doesn't do it for me, but it does integrate many features to get it done with less effort and more clarity for my future self.

Fantastical and support is 5 star!. I suffer from concussion syndrome and having a calendar that is strong and simple to use that talks to all of my devices to keep me organized is key! The other day I was having trouble and I couldn’t figure out why, the last thing I wanted to do was contact support because of the nightmares I have encountered with OTHER apps and my less than tech savvy injured brain. Well, Fantastical support was different…they were quick, they were good, they didn’t act like they were too smart to handle my case…they spent all the time needed to solve my problem and ensured I was happy and followed up afterward! What a great experience…this is an unsolicited thank you and shout out for a great app and great support team (I worked w Val, give her a 300% raise!)! Rick Harpers Ferry, WV

Disappointed. I have used Fantastical for a long time and loved how easy it was to use - especially when it came to adding events. But the upgraded version leaves me cold and disappointed. I don’t necessarily mind the subscription, although in my trial period still, I haven’t seen how it gives me anything I want tor need, so I will probably kill it - especially in light of my other dissatisfactions. But what is truly upsetting and makes me want to find something else is the change to the calendar screen on the iPad. I want the old one back. The new one is much more cluttered and ugly. I liked having the monthly calendar and the details side by side, with a scrolling weekly calendar at the top that could be pulled down to show the month (although I didn’t do that much). From a graphic design point of view, there is just too much going on in the new screen, with information repeated. That doesn’t make it easier to work with, it just makes it confusing and not worth the effort visually to figure out what is next or coming up.

Broken Apple Watch & Upsell hell. I’ve been a long time user of Fantastical across the entire Apple platform - I appreciate the time and work put into this version. Unfortunately it lacks some basic functionality on the Apple Watch, i.e., it doesn’t work at all and is stuck syncing. While I’d prefer a much higher one time purchase price rather than the move to subscriptions, I understand the current “get while the getting is good” mentality. For owners of Fantastical 2, we apparently get all the basic functionality without needing to pay the subscription. Unfortunately, the number of silly upgrade pop ups reminds me of cheap games that try to trick you into clicking on ads. I’ve been using version 3.0 for a couple of days and at least 10 times a day I accidentally tap on something the brings up the annoying upgrade pop-up. Ask me once, if I say no, just hide the extra features rather than adding friction to make my experience worse for it.

$73 paid to be forced into a subscription? No thanks!. I’ve purchased the iPhone, iPad, and desktop versions of Fantastical (total $73) because it was worth the cost for the interface and functionality. A *forced* ‘upgrade’ to v3 removed several key features and cluttered/ruined the UI with constant prods to upgrade. Upgrade? I’m $73 in on a *calendar* app and now you want more money each month? AND personal data that was previously not required? From this end this looks like a money (and data mining ) grab and I most certainly DO NOT CONSENT. Flexibility wants to move to a fremium model for future customers? Fine. But many of us paid (a fairly substantial price) for a product we are no longer receiving. The solution? Pick one: allow paid app users a choice- either allow us to remain on 2.0 with all prior function intact, or grandfather us in with permanent premium subscriptions. They won’t be ‘free’ as the services have already been paid for. Bad move, flexibits. Hope you make it right.

Okay, for now. I don’t like the move to subscriptions, in part because the price jumps always seem to be so high. In this case you go from an app that cost just a few dollars to 40 dollars a year. I’m happy they only included new features in the subscription, but am still annoyed that I constantly see options for things, like full screen views, that require a subscription. Does a full screen view really justify 40 dollars a year? No. And since that’s the only new feature I want I’m stuck staring at the option all the time but not able to use it. It is frustration and visual clutter. If you want to charge me for a new feature like that, fine. But make it an in-app purchase, and save the subscription for the features that are truly new (like scheduling and outside calendars etc.) and not just UI improvements. The other thing about the subscription is that it makes much more sense if you are also using it on your Mac, as I think the Mac app was something like 20 dollars. But those of us that don’t want it on our Macs should have a lower tier at 10 or 20 dollars a year. So, I’m still using it for now, but if the constant reminders of subscription-only features get too annoying or they add more basic features that require a subscription then I might leave for another calendaring app, like Readdle’s, which is almost as good as is.

Loyalists got screwed. Was waiting for a major upgrade and was prepared to pay another $70 for brand new features. You’ll now have to pay $40 annually for those new features (on a calendar app) Fantastical 2 launched 7 years ago. So now you’ll have to pay $280 for those same features over the lifetime of the app. Why am I subscribing to a calendar app? Also if I choose not to subscribe, every time I click the wrong thing, my once paid for app is now asking me for money? That’s extremely poor customer service. That is NOT how you treat people. Are we just money bags to you? Again. Would have happily paid for a single, one-time purchase. Now that you’ve gone to a subscription model, unfortunately, you’ll never see another dime from me.

THE Go-To App for Calendar Planning. After a pretty rough opening from Flexibits on the initial rollout, I have to commend the makers of this app for working very, very hard on it over the past few months.... I was one of the beta testers of this app, and after so many issues of it not syncing with the Watch, they remained diligent in getting it to work just as well as Fantastical 2. As a result of their diligence, the Watch app is syncing as well as it can with the iPhone, iPad and Mac. Also, with the ability to see timed tasks and events in the Day, Week, Month and Year views, it has been incredibly helpful in calendar planning! I now can see at a glance what needs to be done from an event and project perspective on a daily basis. Although, yes, there is a subscription for this service now (as is the case for many), I must say that Flexibits, through a LOT of diligence and effort, earned this one in my eyes. This is one of the very few that I am subscribing to in this age of subscriptions.... If you don’t have a subscription for this app, I highly recommend you go ahead and subscribe. This app has proven itself to be the best in the business when it comes to calendar planning with both tasks and events! All it takes from there on your part is good organization, and the technology will work for you!

Useful, but big flaw. Our family has been using fantastical for our calendar for years. It works fine for us. There a few smaller issues but most of the time it works well. My big complaint (and thus 3 stars and a lot of frustration) is that when you put in an event with the title of a holiday, the calendar automatically changes the date of your event to that holiday’s date. And it does ask if you if you want to do that. When you finish inputting your event and press save, suddenly your event is whisked away to a completely different date. For example, if you put “Christmas Party” on December 12. When you saved the event, your Christmas Party event would automatically be moved to December 25th. Or another example, “send the invitations for the Easter party” set for March 15th. Again your event date would be changed. Very frustrating and of course could have bigger repercussions if the calendar date had to with work or something.

Better than anticipated. I didn’t think I needed a “fancy” calendar app since I don’t have a complex schedule. I tried Fantastical on a whim and found unexpected benefits. First, combing my Google calendars (multiple accounts) with my iCloud calendars made tracking and responding to event seamless. Not unique to this app, but really helpful (I had been duplicating Google events on my iCloud calendar - yikes). What really set Fantastical apart for me was the integration of reminders. My iCloud reminders were a total mess so at first I turned off this integration. When I tried it, however, I found that I could now user reminders far more effectively since they appear with my calendar events. Organizing them and, most importantly, acting on them is now a central post of my workflow. Before it had been hit-or-miss as I would dismiss a reminder and forget about it. Of note, a beautiful, easy-to-use design, natural language entry of events and tasks, integrate response to calendar invites, and single click joining off video conference meetings are a joy. I haven’t tried “suggest a time” meeting invites but I suspect this will also be a game changer when I get around to that. Subscription price is quite reasonable, IMHO, particularly in that it funds maintenance and extension of the product (not to mention supporting the developers).

One minor nitpick. Fantastical is a rich, full-featured app on all platforms, and the developer’s love and care for this app is evident. My only wish is that the macOS and iPadOS apps behaved the same in one small way. When in the month view on macOS or iPadOS, a day with many events will display “Show more…” text at the bottom of that day’s calendar slot. On macOS, clicking the “Show more…” text expands the full list of that day’s events in a pop-out window (while staying in the month calendar view). I love this feature because it allows me to see a quick overview of all the day’s events on the calendar without switching to the Day view and scrolling to see all my appointments. However, when tapping “Show more…” on iPadOS, it switches over to the Day view where I need to scroll around to see all the events for that day. The behavior difference between platforms startles me almost every time I use Fantastical on my iPad and I wish the iPad app had the same behavior as the Mac app in this regard. If I wanted to see the Day view, it’s only a tap away at the top of the screen, thank you very much! Please just let me see a quick overview of everything on the calendar without yanking me out of the Month view.

New Update!. Updates of the Fantastical app is always for one purpose and one purpose alone, to try and force people to pay a monthly fee to use a calendar. Do yourself a favor do not use this app. And if you wanna avoid future frustration delete the app. I got an error message every time now it opens, asking me to log in to sync. It Wants me to sync with an account I don’t have. We’re not gonna offer anything else you don’t use but we want you to give us more money anyway. Bloodsuckers. The update added one thing; it added an error message that says “Logon required for Flexibits.” I click on “show error” then it says “you will not see updates till you sign in again” since I’ve never signed in to begin with I certainly can’t sign in again. So, the automatic update added one feature, an error message. The error message might as well say “delete this app now you wasted your money, idiot.” If I buy an app, And all of a sudden I can’t use it unless I pay a monthly fee, guess what I delete the app and give a one star review for a waste of my time and money.

Going back to the pre-installed iOS Calendar app sadly!. Been using Fantastical for years. While I understand the need to charge for syncing services for enterprise and “power” users I’m just a one man band and just can’t stomach the idea of having one giant ad running in the menus to purchase a premium subscription every time I want to change a setting. The worst part for me is that having previously purchased Fantastical 2 my iPhone recognized it upon updating and upgraded me to some of the new features, however, on my iPad I had to install a completely new version and none of those new features followed leaving me with a kinda better version on my phone but not the iPad which basically makes my iPad an annoying step-brother to my iPhone. That being said I personally think this update ruins Fantastical for me. It’s going to be great for team leaders and office managers but will feel obnoxious to use for those of us with less demanding needs. So I’ll just go back to using the iOS Calendar. It’s been real Fantastical. Good luck to you in the future.

Deleting. October update stopped importing events from e-mail. I use different providers for e-mail and for calendar storage, to preserve what little control over privacy is left to us as consumers. So, I when I receive meeting invitations by e-mail, I have to open the .ics attachment and import it to my calendar to create the event. Fantstical always had lousy .ics import support. It couldn't deduplicate if I inadvertently imported the same even twice, and couldn't apply .ics files containing event cancellations. But, as of the Fantastical update at the end of October, 2022, the app can't import any .ics files. I go through the motions, but no events are created. I tried switching calendars, but it's not that. Searching Fantastical documentation for .ics yields no results. I'm guessing that either no one uses .ics attachments anymore and Fantastical has dropped support (which would mean that people would pretty much have to use one of Google, Microsoft, or Apple for both e-mail and calendar, to be able to automatically reduce invitation e-mails to calendar events) or that Fantastical has added .ics to its (long) list of paid, subscription-only files. I'd be more willing to subscribe to Fantastical if it could show me a unified calendar in iOS and MacOS, but that doesn't seem to be possible either — Fantastical on MacOS just shows an empty calendar — so I'm not going to take the chance and waste money on Fantastical's half-functional, poorly-documented calendar ecosystem.

I would love to rate better but…. I’m not paying for an app like this until I can see its value. It offers a free trial but it’s not really a trial like you would expect. Try and click on any of the tabs and you just get an error saying lag first. Why can’t you let us into that section and the. Limit the tasks to 1-5 tasks. That would allow us to understand the functionality but still not get far without paying. Poorly functioning tasks is why my current app isn’t working and why I’m looking at Fantastical. I’ve now deleted the app. Updated to add that I see I can signup and commit to pay and then get the trial. I much prefer get a trial and be notified at the end of the 14 days it’s going away if I don’t pay. This way I don’t forget and have a payment accidentally come out. I know you like the free money from user that forget but the bad relationships it creates isn’t worth it. Trust me. Created trust with your users and it goes farther.

$$$$$They completely ruined the app$$$$$$$. Way to go!! You took a great app and completely driving people away. A complete money grab and a completely useless app unless you pay. Yes there is a “free” version, but it’s completely useless because every time you swipe or tap something or enter something, a pop up appears and tells you that’s a premium feature and please sign up to use it. So frustrating! If you look at the settings, everything that has a little red “star” next to it is a premium feature. Well, guess what? There seems to be a few dozen premium settings and only a few free settings. How about an option to disable the premium features from even showing up? I don’t need constant reminders I don’t have the premium features. If a premium feature is to swipe down from the top, than if I don’t have premium, don’t even allow me to swipe. How about that? Simple. Don’t throw every option on the screen simply to remind us we didn’t pay for your features that I paid twice for from fantastical 1 and fantastical 2. Bye bye!!!

It thinks it’s “smart” but it’s not... enough to drive someone crazy. I’ve been using this app for years. I can’t take it anymore. Randomly switches time zones for no reason, even when I haven’t traveled anywhere in months. Completely messes up scheduled events due to this. But the worst part is that this calendar tries to be too smart. If I put, “buy Christmas presents” on my calendar for tomorrow, it won’t be there because it will automatically think I want it to be on my calendar for December 25, since the word Christmas is in it. If I put “take baby’s 3 month photos” on my calendar for tomorrow, it will put it on my calendar for 3 months from now because all it sees is “3 months” and thinks it’s doing me a favor by putting it on my calendar for 3 months from now. Sometimes it will randomly throw half of my title in the location field because it thinks it’s helping. It’s not. Then important info from the title is gone. I just wish it would accept what I write and trust the time I enter and not always try to change things. Sometimes it takes me multiple tries to add a simple event, because it throws it onto the wrong day or year and then I need to use the search function to even find where it put it, or I have to edit the time multiple times because it switches time zones or just doesn’t save my changes. All of this stuff the app tries to do might be helpful for some people, but not me. Bye, Fantastical.

Why did you ruin your best widget?!!. The whole reason why I downloaded this app in the first place is because you had a widget that shows not only the current month, but the next month too; and I really loved that because when the current month was almost over, you could look at the widget and see the days of the week of the next month, which was pretty useful for planning an event when next week is in the new month. And now you replaced it with a wide version of the one month widget. Why?!!! At least you still have that Lock Screen widget, that displays the current week in the middle of three rows with the previous and next weeks. It’s Wednesday Sept 27 as I write this, and I really love how I can see the entire first week of October on the bottom row of the widget. I’ll keep this app for that Lock Screen widget, so please do not ruin that one too, or I’ll have no reason to keep this app any longer.

Widget shows incorrect & incomplete information!. Lately within the past few updates, the big ‘Event List + Calendar’ widget on iOS 17.1.1 has been showing incorrect and incomplete information. I would be delayed or stuck on the past few days and not the current day. Which also defaults to show information only from that day if there is any, and no other information for the next couple of days which it always used to do. You have to manually tap on the current day to show events for that day. But sometimes, even doing so, only shows events on the current day and doesn’t show next day and day after events. It’s been a constant bug on both iOS and MacOS Sonoma. It also causes lack of weather information which used to show as well. It’s been extremely annoying to check the widget to see events and realize the date is from a few days prior and have to manually tap on it to update or even worst, go into the app to see all the information. What’s the point of having a widget when the widgets do not show current and proper information??

Best Calendar By Far. *August 30, 2017 * It is well worth noting how small, nimble companies like Flexibits continuously improve their products and never rest on their laurels. They already have by far the best calendar apps for all of Apple's platforms, and yet they continuously update with minor improvements to help make their products even better and make life better. For example, this release adds alert times for 1 week and 2 weeks prior to an event. This saves a few taps by avoiding having to make "custom" alerts. Very simple and minor, but it's the attention to detail that is so much appreciated. * July 7, 2017 * I have come to terms with the fact that Apple has essentially abandoned creating good "core" apps for both macOS and iOS alike. Since I am resolved to (in most cases) having to pay to replace those core apps, the question becomes which third-party app is best for a particular function. For calendars, the hands-down winner is Fantastical. I've purchased three (3) versions thus far: * iPhone * iPad * Mac I don't own an Apple Watch, but if I ever do, Fastastical will be one of my first app purchases for that as well. No regrets on any front. The natural language recognition and parsing is great. As is the layout and overall UX. Widgets are excellent too. Highly recommended.

Unique and functional. Fantastical has a nice layout and solid natural language event creation. There’s also a wide selection of widgets, though the free tier severely limits their configurations. But there is lots to like even in the free version, and that’s the one you should use unless you have money to burn or use its many business focused features. 4/7/23 update—note about live activity for upcoming events: The live activity completely takes over the status bar *when travel time is indicated*, but now if travel time is included a little car emoji has been added to clutter up the iPhone status bar. Previously the live activity was more compact and just showed the date and time till next event. It should return to the previous design as the recent update hides time of day, network, battery etc., and is an example of what NOT to do with live activities as it unnecessarily hijacks the user’s status bar.

Used to be great, now it’s not.. Fantastical used to be great, but then the developers moved to a subscription model and removed features which were previously "free" - though, I had previously paid $40 for the desktop app and $5 for the mobile app. There’s no consistency between the Mac and the iOS apps now. For example, on Mac, I can change the color of an event (which is a new feature). On iOS, I cannot (you need a subscription). The same applies to Travel Time - I can use it on a Mac, but not on iOS. The developers forced version 3 on us (replacing version 2 for which I personally paid $40). The app used to have a 5-star rating in the app store, now it has 3 stars. Obviously I am not the only one who didn't like this move to a subscription-based model. There is another app with the same features and it’s a once-off payment. I will be switching to Apple Calendar or another app as Fantastical does not offer any more value anymore and is just frustrating to use. And I can feel the bad aftertaste in my mouth every time I see it.

Excellent App!. I will start off by saying that I’ve been a long time Fantastical user and when the developers initially moved to the subscription model, I was disappointed and went back to the Apple stock calendar. I found myself missing the seamless integration between my Apple and work (Gmail, Teams, Zoom) calendars. No other app comes close to Fantastical in this regard. I also love the integration with Cardhop. My only wish is that they offered another tier in their pricing model. I do not utilize the Openings or Scheduling features. It would be great if they had a mid tier without these options as the current price point is a bit high for the features I use but I do love this app. I would also like to point out that their support team is quick to respond to any issues I’ve had (and I haven’t had many.) Keep up the excellent work!

Widget Removed is a let down. Normally I recommend fantastical to anyone using a calendar app, but a bunch of weird stuff has been happening the last year or two with this app. Overall, it’s great and functions well. It’s hard to find something that works as well with natural language. It’s great and makes adding events super easy. In terms of annoying stuff. I had a super frustrating sync issue for a few months sometime last year that I managed to resolve, but took literally days of emailing and hours of work to fix. If I’m spending money on stuff, I like for it to work, and that wasn’t the case and it drove me insane. It eventually worked and that’s a great result, but it cost me money and time. Recently they updated the widgets available and removed the week + events list I liked to use and replaced it with a month view. It made no sense to me and so now I just have events, but it’s not very useful. Weekly context is more relevant to me than monthly if I’m seeing weekly events below. Seems obvious to me, but they changed it to be a month view which is just noise to me. Overall, like I said—it’s great. But I’m not going to lie and say I’m not looking for alternatives, because at this point I am. I want a great app that works well and functions as expected. Not something that breaks and I need to fix, or changes, and I can’t revert. Those things are why I’m at 3/5 stars.

Great app, just one feature not working currently!. I love this app and use it every day many times, connected to multiple Google calendars. It’s easy to see everything, enter new events by dictation and it’ll fill in all of the pertinent information where it goes. It has multiple views to pick from and it’s easy to turn calendars on and off as needed. Also super easy to utilize for tasks and have it sync with several different options so tasks are viewable from other apps or other locations as well. Very user friendly! My only issue is that I suddenly no longer have the ability to search. I type something in that I KNOW is there and it says “No Results.” I can literally look at a calendar event then go try to search for it and it won’t show up. I use this feature fairly frequently so I’m super bummed it’s not working. Hoping a fix is coming up? Thank you!

Not great for iPad. Fantastical is a good calendaring app that has features that, for the life of me, I do no know why apple does not include in their native app (just one example: including a simple weather report for calendar events). Fantastical has the free version and the paid version. The free version is decent for the IPhone. There are some features not available, but basic function is good. The IPad version, however, is bad. A 1/3 of screen is essentially the IPhone view, with the remaining 2/3 blank except for a notation asking for $5 to purchase the premium version. Not for a one time purchase, but PER MONTH!! Uhmm, no. Not happening. In my view, I dont think developers realize that for the vast majority of them, the subscription model simply will not work in the long term. Many, many people are getting subscription fatigue as it is. By the time you pay for Disney, Netflix, Apple Music, storage, etc., etc. people are just not going to pay subscriptions unless the App is indispensable. Fantastical is good, but not indispensable.

LONG time user and I still love it. This app has been my friend for a LONG TIME. How many meetings, doctor appointments, weddings, funerals, pick-up after school meetings, flights, etc., etc., etc. did I schedule with this easy to use app over the years? This app has never let me down. I’ll admit, I find their instance on using app-specific-passwords to be really annoying, but I know it’s good for me. I’m glad they’re looking out for my security more than I would have on my own. So, thanks for being annoying - I guess. People complain about the subscription, but if it ain’t worth it for you, then move on and find something else. You know when you get the app there’s a subscription attached, and I’ve been using this app almost since version 1.0. So, I’ve paid the upgrades, I get it. YET - this app is still worth every penny.

Top Class!!. Despite all the bad press here, this is an outstanding app. It is Editor’s Choice for a reason and my go-to scheduler. For all the people complaining about the subscription model, use CALENDARS 5 from Readdle. Is the closest competitor; with a one-time charge. I own it, but still chose this app. It is the most robust and complete scheduler here. The thought that went into it is evident: ambitious, polished and well thought out. All I need is more complete task management; but, that’s clearly beyond the immediate scope of this project. For everyone looking for an actual review and not a comment. Here are my thoughts: LIKES: 1. Scheduling — A+ 2. Travel time — A+ 3. Time zone management — A 4. Online meetings — A+ 5. Desktop version — A+ 6. Natural language input — A+++ 7. Syncing across devices — A+ 8. International special calendars — A+ 9. Search — A 10. Managing recurring events — A 11. Customizations — B+ (needs more sounds) 12. Weather — B+ (needs morning forecast push) 13. Interface — A+ DISLIKES 1. Subscription model — B+ (one payment covers all the devices) 2. Basic task management — C (you’ll still need something like THINGS 3) 3. Calendar sets (Separate groups of calendars — not for me) RECOMMENDATION 1. Price reduction ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (have to ask) 2. SERIOUS task management 3. MORNING GREETING with today’s weather, events and tasks OVERALL A+ The best at what it does

Bait And Switch. For several years I have used Fantastical and loved its layout. During those years I paid for the app - which was pretty expensive for an app at the time. Recently Fantastical has become a subscription service - even for those that already paid for the app in the past. No discount, no loyal customer pass, no nothing but the same app now at a more expensive price per year. Don't get me wrong, I love the design and the better visual look of Fantastical more than other calendar apps for iPhone. But the functionality of Fantastical is no better than Apple's native FREE calendar app. There are just not enough features in Fantastical to consider it a "service" or to warrant the subscription price. I contacted tech support about how to use one of the Fantastical app I previously paid for without the subscription service and was basically told "so sad, too bad, either pay up or lose the use of the app". To me this is just another case of "bait and switch" in the App Store. Needless to say, I have removed the app and will move on to something else.

Great application with an issue. I have had this application for about 2 weeks now and I absolutely love the look and feel it provides. The achilles heal for this application, for me, is an issue with launching Google Maps from an event. I heavily use this feature in the default Google Calendar applications to navigate how much traffic between my kids events in different locations. On Fantastical, even if it has the name/location of the place I need to go, whenever I click the map to launch Google Maps it just shows the coordinates of the location and not the actual place I want to go to. The coordinates might work but I like having the name of the place I need to go to so I can call the business for any reason. For such a robust application that has many cool features this shouldn’t be an issue especially when it comes with a premium cost.

Prior Users, Don’t Freak Out. Everyone is astonished about this moving to a subscription model. However, if you already purchased Fantastical 2, none of your prior features are in jeopardy. In fact, they added a few. I really like the new interface. The only bad thing was the Apple Watch app was broken for a few days. It was just a bug, and they fixed it with yesterday’s update. If you owned it before, it’s better than ever. If you didn’t, then you have to pay for the subscription. The subscription is overpriced, and I hope they consider lowering it to something more reasonable. Still, if you work in a position where the ability to track tasks and keep a calendar is of major importance, you still might find it worthwhile. What’s $40 if it helps you earn a year of wages?

Good App, not $40/year good. UPDATE: To respond to the developer point that you are getting the “value” of fantastical across multiple devices. Sure, I see what you’re getting at, but that is also making the HUGE assumption that everyone has those other devices. What about the person who just wants this for their iphone? Even for iphone/iPad use this is way too expensive. And when it comes to desktop apps in general you should know subscription does not go over nearly as well with people as they are typically one and done purchases. The fatal aspect of this pricing scheme is the sheer lack of flexibility. It’s such a let down too because I did enjoy this app the short time I trialed it, but the price is too steep. Ironically because of the price so many people have been driven away, including people who have paid in the past so it wouldn’t be hard to imagine you’re actually making less money now. I’d love to revisit this app once the pricing makes more sense. Original: $40 SUBSCRIPTION not even a One-Time fee?? Judging by the review bombs, I hope you guys learn that sure your work needs to be compensated, but at the same time you need to have a user base to fund it. If you had all the users you had before this mess and a large portion of them paid a much lower premium fee you would have probably been paid fine. Also make it a separate app than the paid #2, horrifically bad move on that part as well. Fire whoever made these business decisions.

Really sad to lose features I paid for to move to a subscription model and worse user interface. Unfortunately the new interface is a step back for Fantastical and the move to a Flexbits account is an unnecessary complication for features that didn’t require it in the past. The new features are lackluster at best and really are only aimed at a small set of power users who probably already know how to do automation using IFTTT, Zapier, Shortcuts, or Pythonista. I think these features plus the move to the subscription model mean that Flexbits is targeting a specific market of mac users that are very blog and automation heavy, you can see sponsored posts for Fantastical on all of the major mac blogs. I get that this was a business decision that was likely thought through very carefully before being implemented and watching other tools that inhabit this space such as Drafts and Ulysses, but let this be a cautionary tale for Mac and IOS users - your first party app replacement can be yanked from you at any time.

Not a fan of 3.0 release. Fantastical was fantastic, now after latest update, not so much. I used to be able to do a quick look at events I had today and then upcoming events. While that is still there it’s now showing me lots of clutter . Before I can see my events in list form I have to see the weather for the next 14 days and even this is corrupted... since I don’t fully need premium i can only see three days weather and the remaining 11 days are blank. Since I only wanted to see events at a glance all this weather space now pushes them to a second page. Now when I can finally see events at a glance instead of see the one line of the event title I also see title and event address which again pushes upcoming events off the page and I have to scroll down further. So basically when I had something easy and could at a glance see the event titles for today and upcoming days, I have to wade thru things. Maybe it’s time to go back to Apple calendar (shudder) or try one of the other 12 best calendar apps of 2019.

Folks, developers can’t just work for free. As a Fantastical user since the beginning and one of the most used apps I have I was thrilled to see a new version. I have absolutely no problem paying for quality especially from a proven developer/product. Now, is the price right...I don’t know. Is the app perfect, not yet. However, I am willing to give it a chance after so many years of free version updates. Why 4 stars? I was initially rating 3 for now but after seeing the unbelievable amount of time by the developers responding on Twitter to customers I moved it to a 4 star. A lot of that has to do with faith in future updates as well. What would I like to see improved now? Calendar view on iOS gives not as much space to the events below the calendar. Maybe reduce the font size of the month “January 2020” and “My Calendar Set”. Give option to reduce amount of weeks shown in the calendar to 4. These changes would allow for more events below the calendar to be seen. Finally on iPad OS we get month view with the events shown full screen! Can we get end times? I am more than willing to pay the annual fee for a year to give these folks a chance since they have performed for so many years. I have also looked at other calendar apps and sorry, they may be cheaper but don’t come close. Justin

Some nice features but not worth it. Calendaring apps are blunt devices. Even the best ones. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve used my calendar to remember past meetings or events, and every app has failed to provide meaningful history searches. This app is no exception. It has some additional bells and whistles over the default or Surveillance Capitalism apps (you know who you are). But they don’t justify the cost. I still miss the richly detailed customizations and custom hooks I used to be able to get on my ancient PalmOS devices, and this does not cut it. Mini windows are cute but mostly useless. Time zones are great but depend on if they are meaningful to you. The natural language aspects are not useful unless you’re not very smart at working with apps or computers. The third party plugins, like weather, are redundant with other apps. This is one of those purchases that promised a lot of improvement but I regretted buying later.

Reading Reviews is Important. No matter your age, if you’re like me, reading reviews is key in the digital age. Commonly before this time we had “word of mouth”, and that’s what reviews are supposed to be, a sense of trust should go with reviews. When people get paid to write reviews, how are we to know if they’re true? If I see a review that has a lot of negative reviews, I know that they’re most likely not being paid to write negative reviews. However, that also means “this app is garbage” is a common phrase. This is my long winded way of saying, I will never accept money to write reviews. Furthermore, I never would write a review I could not stand by 100%. I was very skeptical in my free trial, and ultimately purchase, of this subscription. I haven’t even used it for a year, but am thoroughly impressed. I’m not sure if it’s because of the pandemic that this company listens to their users or if they’ve always listened; Either way, thank you for listening. So many great features AND IMPROVEMENTS. If you’d like me to specify, I can, but I feel this review is already way too long. I tried this app a year or two ago and wasn’t impressed, I redownloaded it semi-recently and am currently trying to convince my boss of Fantastical’s value. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Waiting for that Slack integration. ;) Keep me posted.

Fantastical. Let me start by admitting to being a retired software developer from a time that predates PCs. When Datastorm Technologies introduced ProComm for MS-DOS (a general-purpose communications program), the computing world was introduced to a fabulous user interface with usage that was both intuitive and assisted by what I recall as the first context sensitive help system. Fantastical has taken the Apple Calendar app and done the same thing. It’s a brilliant interface that takes a clunky application and gives it some missing elegance. If I have any criticism, it’s that Fantastical is attempting to interface with too many other products (e.g. Google, Zoom). They normally insert these interfaces very smoothly, but I fear the desire to be all things to all people might end up making the UI I love less appealing. I have recommended this app to everyone I know…

Horrible support process even when you pay. I have been patient and want to think that they are gonna work through the deluge of bugs, missing promised features (full attachment support for all calendars) and customer complaints/dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, I’m growing weary and doubtful. Why roll out releases to v3 before thoroughly addressing bugs and broken features? Why? Because you are trying to impress the paying customers who now expect constant updates. I’ve submitted at least 4 support emails and not a single response. The initial response to emails was good, but they’ve gone silent. Meanwhile, I’m a VERY frustrated customer who will no longer recommend this App. This is definitely a case of good intentions gone completely wrong. Yeah, allowing existing customers to keep what they previously paid for is good. Unfortunately, the execution was POOR. I’m not opposed to paying for good products and services, I just have a low tolerance for crappy service. This seems to me to be a case of a company with a very good product and an even better customer-base in terms of loyalty who may have overstretched a bit.

Abuse of long time user!!. I really liked this app better than the rest because it has a nice interface, easy to use, and had the features that I need. I use and rely on this app every day for critical events and meetings with my work, medical, travel, and other agendas. BUT NOT ANYMORE!!! They just “upgraded” this app. There are NO significant additional functions or anything useful. Instead, they took most of the free and standard features that they know people like me rely heavily on and decided to charge an extra “subscription” fee and extort money to get the same functionality that was free in the previous version. Unless you pay MORE MONEY, this calendar app is now useless. I am so angry and disappointed in the creators for doing this. It has completely interrupted and significantly faulted my entire schedule. Now, on top of my already busy schedule, I have to take MORE time to hunt for a replacement calendar app that will offer what this does without the “premium subscription fee”. Do NOT trust this app any longer!! Don’t waste your valuable time and certainly don’t give these criminal extortionists any of your hard earned money.

Beware! Accessed reminders when I specifically hit “don’t allow”. The app itself is “take it or leave it” when it comes to features for the normal consumer. Using the regular apple calendar or google calendar is a better choice both because it’s already integrated into your normal accounts already, but also because it’s free. But, something users should beware of is that even if you choose “don’t allow” on some of the data requests like Reminders, it still takes the data anyway. I got the premium version and on all three iMac, iPhone, and iPad I chose “don’t allow” only for the Reminders (I just didn’t want that feature). But I kept getting notifications from Fantastical that had my reminders in it. Also, the desktop version doesn’t work as well as the mobile version. I had no trouble getting the birthdays from my contacts to show up on the mobile version, but the desktop version would not show them no matter what I did. They were connected to the same contacts account but the desktop version just wouldn’t work.

The Best Calendar App. I bought the iOS app years ago, and I moved on and have tried so many other apps. Time page, Calendars, stock calendar, to-do, you name it, I tried it. I saw this refresh and was hesitant due to the new subscription model since I already paid for the iOS app only. After using the trial, I learned it is simply the best, not perfect, but the best. From the UI, a natural language I put on time and location, weather section, mac app, tasks, and widget, it is seamless. What stopped this from getting perfect five stars is if you bought the iOS app or Mac app, you should receive a one-year free for your support before this model. Issues and suggestions The widgets don't tend to update sometimes even with app open. Also, when clicking on the weather icon on the widget, please bring it to the detailed section on the app; not opening the Accuweather web page makes no sense.

I understand but they lied.. I understand why apps go premium. They need more income to keep development going. After reading the news the developer posted about the changes they said the people that payed for the app still get all the past features free. This is an out right lie. They have added new features that was not in the old app but they move several I use in the old app to premium. I liked it when fantastical would remind you to leave at the right time to make an event. That was moved to premium. Any sounds beside defat are now premium. I payed full price for this app and the Mac app and it was not cheap. On top of that I got it less then 3 months ago. If I could return it I would. I don’t mind payed the premium but not when the developer lied to make a few bucks more.

Perfect calendar app. Wow! I can’t believe this app only has three stars. I’m a PhD, I work 60-hour weeks, and this calendar is my workhorse. I suspect people who love this app are too busy to praise it! Here is what I love about Fantastical: — First, I love supporting a crack team of developers and designers, who are invested in building a continuously improved product to fit the needs of busy people like a glove. — Natural language entry is a blessing. I have never looked back to the awkward field-by-field entry required for other apps. — Fantastical solves all the problems of other sub-optimal calendar apps. No more trouble seeing the details of events. No more trouble managing several calendars. And then there are all the innovations that they try to fit in to adapt to the times. For instance, recently, they added self-configured videochat meetings: I connect Zoom (or Google Hangouts or...) and when O create an event, I can just have it generate a Zoom meeting and have the information sync’ed. Or as a participant, I now have a simple button to “Join” events, no need to fish out the link in the metadata. This app is outstanding, and I encourage you to also try out CardHop, which is their response to the sub-optimal contacts management.

Last time I am doing subscriptions for these apps!. It was alright with the discount, but now it’s becoming too much for me. I have seriously bad subscription fatigue, and these days am not even trying new apps with subscriptions. The apps that have resisted it, I am sticking with. Slowly but surely moving all subscription based apps out of my line up unless there’s a cost effective alternative to keep it. There are just a few applications that I can’t do without, and are so incredibly different from other apps like them that I have no choice—but the moment I do, I am letting go. It really is too bad. I would not have a problem if Fantastical was priced properly, and had a decent upgrade cycle, to pay outright. That way I have it out of the budget and don’t need to worry about it for a while. I don’t get the whole subscription thing. You have to be seriously wealthy if that’s the future.

Horrible Update/Waste of Money. I purchased this app about 2 years ago when it was still fantastical 2. Absolutely amazing app. I swore by it and recommended it to everyone I knew. Flawless integration between phone desktop and watch and a real pleasure to use. That is all stripped away with this new update. Watch never syncs and the complication only shows the date and a percentage of the day done when it used to show upcoming events and todos which was actually useful. They promised those who had paid for Fantastical 2 would get to keep everything they had originally paid for but that was clearly a lie. You are forced to create a free flexibits account to sync everything which doesn’t actually work and is just made to try to convince you to pay a subscription fee. The app now lags every time it’s opened and just constantly shows notifications showing all the new features you can get if you paid. Absolutely no consideration for the people who bought this app. I paid for all features and now that’s invalid and I have to pay monthly just to have what I had two days ago? Ridiculous

Great App!. This is a very strong, very functional, very to easy to use app. I have two functional requests and one point. First, when adding an event, it would be nice (on the iPad) to simply tap (or now click) on the weekly calendar layout for that specific hour and then have the app pop the input box. The ‘+’ key is cute, but often ‘misreads’ my intentions. (Or I simply don’t write my intentions clearly enough for the AI). Something like how Outlook works on the iPad would be great. Second, when opening the app, i get thrown to a random week in January. I’ve sent screen shots on this one bug. Finally, regarding the price. The app is strong, functional, and well supported. IMHO, the developers need to eat, like the rest of us. The price is fair for the functionality and support delivered. Good job. Now, can you tackle email...?
