Need Updating Crashes. Waste of Money. App does not work on iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 13.3.1. Shows up blank when hit test and main tabs. Study tab crashes the app.

App is dead. No longer works.. As my title says. App no longer works. Very disappointing. Used to be a good resource.

Definitely must have. If you have an iPhone and are studying for license, don't hesitate. I'm only writing this review because I was wondering how up to date it is, with everything changing. I'm not sure if they are totally accurate with their test pool. I'm taking the Mate 1600ton oceans and I buddy of mine just took it, and some of the question categories in the test pool weren't on the coast guard test nor In the cap joe software he used. I found this in the deck safety module, but I'm guessing there are others. Hoping to see more reviews or contact them to clarify. However, like I said, if you have an iPhone and are studying GET IT!!!

Broken App. I have been using this for about six months. About a month ago, whenever I click on the study tab at the bottom of the Home Screen it closes the app out. Making this completely useless.

Used to be a great app. Opens for 30 seconds and crashes, this is a real bummer! It’s pretty much useless….

Best Supporting app for test. This app helped me pass my exams, please Make This app payable instead of free. It’s worth it. It’s been glitching so I’d be happy to pay to keep it updated! Get this one people !

Great work. This is exactly what I needed when I was studying. I used a combination of this app, Murphy’s books, Lapware, and the knowledge of shipmates to hawsepipe from AB to 3rd Mate Unl. I especially liked the rules of the road practice exams, it’s just very convenient to have all of this in your pocket. I recommend Upgrade-U to people I meet who are taking classes with me and shipmates who want to advance constantly. The only issue I have with the software is it won’t run in my new IPhone XS Max and I was hoping to use it to study for a job application screening Coldegs simulator I’ll need to take next month. I’ll just end up using my retired iPhone 6+ but if you can update for compatibility before I start studying for celestial that would be awesome. Many thanks!

Went 7:7 on my 3/M AGT Oceans Exam. Studied for my third mate's test in its entirety using this app. I give it four stars because it does lack solutions for some stability and navigation problems... Still, excellent, and far cheaper than LapWare. 4-5 hours a day with this for a month, and you'll pass no problem :-)

Great app but.... Great app, but the question bank needs to be updated with the new questions. I use lapware and this app to study. Lapware has the new bank but this app offers easier to understand solutions. Giving it 4 stars for that reason.

Love the app. I love this app I have used it for years but they need to update the question bank to the new 2019 questions.

Was great now not functional. App closes soon after opening or whenever you hit the practice tab. Definitely needs to be updated or removed from the AppStore.

Great job. This is an excellent study tool. The questions are sorted and organized as well as any USCG exam prep app that I have used. Keep up the good work.

Good in principal... but.... I purchased this app on the promise that more solutions would be added. This app has not been updated in almost a year with no word on new solutions. I'm getting ready to take my chief mate exam and need to purchase Lapware instead as they have the solutions I need. Additionally, it will not run on my iPhone 7 Plus, it's in an endless crash loop.

Need it to work on my MAC. I had this app on my iphone, when I swtiched to the google phone I lost this app. Having paid 30 dollars for it, I was hoping it would work on my MAC, it does not however. If they could get this app to work on a MAC it would be a 5 Star no brainer!

Great app!... BUT!. For the second time now It keeps crashing out of the app when you hit ‘study’, please fix it, other than that... it’s a great app.

Needs an update for newer IPhones and iOS. Please update the app so that we can continue to study for upgrades. This is a fantastic app but it does not work well currently.

Great app. Pretty awesome someone put this together .. However on a couple of the terrestrial and celestial questions , they have different answers than Houston Marine and Murphy books , thats scary on tests you must score a 90 on ..

Great app for preparing for chief mates/masters. This app was great to supplement lap ware. I used this to prepare for all exams except stability. Solutions provided were well written and provided reference to which exam material you could find the formulas in. It included digital copies reference material which you can access offline. I used this while onboard my vessel without internet and had no problems. The only thing is they need to add stability solutions. Otherwise this is a great cheap way to help prepare for your exams.

Needs Saving or Bookmark Function. App needs a saving function to pick up questions from where you left off. It gets tiring scrolling through thousands of questions every time you have to leave.

Great Study Tool!. I use this app daily to study, and take practice tests! It has been a huge part of my studying regime. I love that it has all the reference material too. I will give it 5 stars if they ever complete and post the solutions to all the math related problems.

Useless after iOS 16.1.1 update. App has no function after update. Crashes every time you try to test or study. Developer needs to fix sonic will work with current version of iOS. BEWARE. DO NOT BUY FOR IOS UNTIL THIS PROBLEM IS CORRECTED.

Thank you.. Definitely worth my $20. Great study tool for anybody upgrading their license. This app is very similar to lapware, but you can't use lapware when out at sea. That is the beauty of this app, no internet is required!! It's great for studying while on watch in the middle of the ocean. The app comes with PDF versions of all necessary resources (bowditch, 1981 tides/currents/coast pilots/light lists, stability, pub 117, rules, chemical data guide, etc...) And, the creators are very helpful. If you have a recommendation on something to improve the app, they are quick to help and implement your ideas. Upgrading from 3/M AGT to 1600T Master NC/O. Definitely recommended.

Nice App but incomplete. This is a very nicely done app and quite useful to the wild majority of mariners. I am "awarding" one star because there is no Study option for Advanced Stability for Master AGT and the promised solutions have been "coming soon" as promised by the seller for many months now. As this low rating is the only way I can register my displeasure at what I feel to be untruthful and unkept promises by the seller it will remain here for public viewing until the "coming soon" solutions are posted and there is a study option for these questions. Again this is a very nice app but being able to study/pass "most" modules doesn't really do one much good.....not near as much good as my money did the seller. Very effective. Compared to other sources on the web and in the App Store, this program is so comprehensive and easy to use, it isn't funny. You really get feedback through taking the tests as to how much you're retaining. You don't have to be online to use it, which is very important. It's the best money I've spent in preparing for the Coast Guard test!

Wrong modules for Inland licenses. Buyer beware! Don’t buy this for an Inland license of any kind! Inland is not western rivers. The layout and functionality of the app is great but it’s pretty much useless for anything but ocean licenses. The inland license modules are all wrong. You can look in the CFR and see what modules are required for each license grade and type. They are all wrong for inland. I pointed this out to the developer and got zero response and zero updates to address this issue. A complete waste of $$ for me.

Update please. Would give 5 stars if the swing ship deviation table values were complete. Can’t work the problems otherwise. Everything else is great.

Needs an update.. Cancels out of app when you tap study.

No support. Downloaded to help my son on his 100 ton USCG class, realized it wouldn’t be helpful, asked for a refund within minutes, got a auto reply and nothing since, been over 2 weeks. I have several USCG Licenses and don’t find it useful. Would like my money back, Save your money don’t buy

A great study tool. Could this program be more encompassing? Yes. If you devote yourself to using all of the study tools this program offers will it get you a passing score on the dreaded USCG exams? Absolutely. There is always room for improvement, but this program already provides the tools needed to pass the CG exams at a fraction of the cost of competitors, i.e. Lapware, study classes. This is an affordable way to study for your exams in the palms of your hands. I would recommend using this app in conjunction with a study course, but if you seriously devote yourself and use all the tools it offers, it's all you need.

Great app. Easy to use. Offline which is great for studying offshore. One thing that would be great is if they had a few more problems solutions for ones that require maths but thats all in bowditch anyways. A few nav rules questions are incorrect but only in nav rules. Recommend.

Wrong answers. Is it just me, or are some of these questions wrong? Does anyone else notice this?

No longer functional. I used this app extensively in the past and it was great. It has bot been updated in 7 years now (?) and is no longer functional. Constantly crashes and cannot be used to study or take practice exams. Hopefully it will be updated and some point in the future but avoid it for now.

Shuts down!. Was a great app when I first downloaded it. Now that I have an iPhone 7 soon as I open it it closes. Get do anything with it now. Please fix was a great app to use.

Good. Better than lapware, easier to use and works offline. Includes the reference material required (bowditch, ics, nav rules, etc) unlike so many others. Really a great application. My only complaint is that in the test review I cannot review the question I missed in its entirety. When attempting to do so I am met with a blank white page. Adding the cg question number to the test review page would also help us review to find what mistakes were made. Thanks!

Can’t install on iPhone 7. I paid money for this and can’t even install it. Pity, since it looks like a really useful resource.

Great resource for studying!. I used this app as a supplement study guide for both my mate and master exams. Easy to use and the fact that you don't need internet makes it priceless for studying while offshore.

Great app. I used the app along with a three week prep course to test for my mates. Passed on my first try. I thought a handful of questions were incorrectly marked however considering I had a question pool of over 12,000 questions I think that's pretty good. I solely used upgrade U and no other study software and it did the trick for me. I did put in my time studying which is key if you want to pass. I already had the app when I went to class but even my instructor at MPT Andy Pickerell recommend it to everyone as a study aid.

Shuts down every time I open it.. Will not stay open.

App close automatically. Ive tried reinstalling the app but still the same it would automatically closed when i try to study any materials. Im trying to study for third mate but I’ve mistakenly checked the captain, however, it was working before until recently. Please advise

Stability Solutions PLZ. Solutions for stability would be nice. Very effective on terrestrial and celestial.

1600 ton Master GL/INL. This app was the only thing I used to study for my 1600 ton Master GL/INL test which I passed with ease. I would use it again and highly recommend it.

Hasn’t been updated. It used to work great, no updates and no responses from developer, don’t waste your money

Keeps crashing. I bought this in 2017. It worked great when I bought it then and needed to study. Now, the most recent update says 3 years ago and every time I go to hit “study” the app crashes and forced it closed. I can’t even choose what license I want to study for. If the developer is reading this, can you fix this?

Extremely Helpful. I was wishing there was an app to help study for the 9 c/m unlimited exams and thought searching for one was a waste of time until I happened upon Upgrade U and was blown away!!! As most people in this career, I travel a lot and am now able to just pop open the app and review a few questions and even have almost all the reference materials right in my pocket... AMAZING!!! Every merchant mariner should have this app. The only thing that would make it any better was if the CFRs were available as references and even more amazing would be if there were explanations to the question solutions. But that is asking a lot and it is already a great app even without those novelties.

Really needs a software update!. Crashes every time you open the app with software 10.1 and later and click on "study" tab. For such an expensive app that mariners depend on as a study tool...you should update it often. At least for compatibility reasons. It's been over a year! I have emailed twice and no reply.

Super helpful. Great for studying for 3rd mate unlimited as a college student, I used it in conjunction with lapware. Worked out for me beautifully

Terrible App. First, this App hasn’t been updated in 3 years. It has outdated questions and doesn’t work on any device IOS 13+. Second, the developer didn’t respond to my refund request after spending $30 on a broken app which doesn’t work with ANY of my devices! Third, I found a much cheaper and up-to-date App - Sea Trials - I would suggest you download this App before wasting your money on Upgrade U.

Good app, could be better with updates... I love your app, I use to and it has helped me study immensely. I have to say though, the app needs an update. I see t hasn’t been updated for 3 years if I’m correct. Every time I try and take a Nav Rules test, the app freezes. Also, I’ve noticed a lot of your answers are incorrect. I’ve taken printed out lapware tests with the same questions and same information inputted into them but your answers are different. My answers when worked out match the lapware. It’s very discouraging and I’d like to see an improvement. Thanks.

Must Have for License Prep. This app is the best in the Apple store for preparing for a CG test. I used this for upgrading to Chief Mate/Master Unlimted tonnage in All Oceans. This app has features that Lapware and Capt. Joe's program are missing. The developer is very responsive and continuously updates it to improve its usability and make it better. Highly recommended for any license level.

I was surprised to see that all the publications were included in this app (CFR's, Bowditch, rules of the road, etc) It's easy to use and is straight to the point. Crashes on Iphone 6. Phenomenal app although I recently upgraded to an Iphone 6 and every-time I try to open it the app it crashes on me. If you have a 6 wait for the next update before purchasing.

Best software, hands down!!!. If you are looking to test, then you must get this app. No more carrying a dozen heavy books with you. Great App. This app is great for on the go or when you are on total lock down. Great interface and feedback. I really enjoyed having it linked to my wireless printer. Perfect when I needed to get out of the fortress of solitude but still wanted to hammer some questions.

Great app for mariners!. I am currently studying to upgrade my license and found this app to be an amazing tool to add to my arsenal of study materials. Study from the study books in the app and then take full USCG exams to test yourself. The app even keeps track and tells you exactly where you need to improve. This app is a must have!

Having Trouble. It had been a great app, up until now. I can't get it to open at all. I've tried to get through to the developer but it takes me to godaddy site. It freezes on the opening screen then shuts down. Any help?

Like a Digital Murphy book!!. This is a great app so far. I've noticed that some of the links to recourses don't link up to what the link describes. For example, on my iPhone the stability reference book popped up as the Nautical Almanac. Overall this is exactly what I need to supplement my studies. Thanks for making this!!

Won't generate new test. Great app. But every time I go to test in nav rules it won't generate a new test for me. I keep having to take the same old one. Other then that. Great.

Great App Responsive Developers. This App has everything you need to study for a license upgrade. My Murphy's books sit untouched as I test over and over anywhere I go. Phenomenal resource packed with support publications like the CFRs. The developers are constantly adding features and content like a print test feature.

Awesome App. Used upgrade u to study for my unlimited tonnage master's license, it was great. I took all 10 tests in two days and passed them all on the first try. Jon the creator is great with support and is always improving the app. Upgrade U is a great option for license prep, it's much less expensive than some other similar study programs

Crashes. Love the app but since the update everytime I am taking a test and click the icon to pull up a diagram or picture the whole app crashes and you lose the test that I am taking and have to start over!!!?

Captain. Waste of 20 bucks! Every test graded received 0%, when I clearly had the correct answer in the test review. I don't understand? Tried reloading app. Didn't work!

Great Value!!!. I have used this app to study for all of my upper level licensing exams. It is much cheaper and more convenient than Lapware, while offering essentially the same functions. It is especially useful for Mariners studying at sea who may lack a reliable internet connection. The lack of some solutions is not a serious impediment.

I've waited a long time for something like this!. Pure genius this guy makes studying way easier. Better than lapware, sea sources, hawsepipe and marine advancement . Buy it while it's 10$!!!

Great App. I use the app all the time to study for my classes as I'm a student at SUNY Maritime College and it works great. A couple things I would add is 1) being able to see the answer you chose on the questions you got wrong after taking a test and 2) the ability to create your own test and pull from different topics

Awesome app!!. If you are prepping for license I believe this is the best phone app to do such thing! Easy to use and loaded with lots of practice tests and questions with explanations!! Really well done and money well spent!!
