Bug fixes and usability enhancements
We've also fixed our meal reminders, so you never miss logging that meal again!
I don't trust any company that doesn't let you cancel your account without contacting them first. I've reached out to every contact option they have and can't get anyone to respond to cancel my account. It's ridiculous. Also, pretty sure the "coach" is a computer, not a real person. Hopefully they get back to me by end of day before I cancel my credit card and report to the BBB.
I was so excited about this app. I love the educational pieces and the psychology behind the app. However, the app is slow to update, has several programming errors, and does not interface well with the pedometers and iPhone health app that it says it will. There is no easy way to confirm you have cancelled the trial subscription. I also never heard from the personal coach other than one group coach. It will be a great app if these problems are fixed. However, for now, I am disappointed and cannot recommend this app to anyone.
I cancelled the last day of my free trial and they still charged me $99 and have said they will not refund me.
This was the absolute biggest waste of my time. I'm still not even convinced that these are actual people I'm pretty sure they're all robots. I made my intentions very clear with my coach that all I needed was a meal plan and time and time again that was diverted into weird other things. Don't bother using this app you're better off buying self help books and a gym membership
I like to use a nutrition tracker when training for a foot race, and was attracted to Noom's use of calorie density and the ability to sync it with the Health Kit on iOS. And while the former feature seems to work well (though there's not much explanation about how to use that info), the syncing feature has yet to work properly. I have a total of 2,590 steps so far today, but Noom step count is ZERO. I've changed settings, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, did a hard reset on my phone, all to no avail. Coupled with the negative comments here and on Facebook re: lack of customer support and issues with being charged after cancellation, and I'm thinking I'll dodge the bullet on this one. Ultimately seems they're more focused on strengthening their Enterprise line of business more than the Consumer line.
I think weight loss works for different folks in different ways. So far, this one works for me. I've been using Noom for one month and have had a 12.8lb loss. The meal tracking focuses on giving you the proper nutrition you need (not skewing towards high protein fad) and uses easy to remember portion sizes. They keep the goals small and manageable for long term success, instead of big short term success. I've used other meal tracking programs like MyFitnessPal- which made me feel neurotic about food, whereas this makes me feel balanced about tracking my food. Having a coach lets me know someone else is watching my food, and that makes me feel supported, not policed. Cons: I wish I were getting more personalized attention from my coach. Some of her responses are good, and others seem automated, like she's just kind of repeating back what I just said to her. The group setting is cool and has potential, but the moderators need to do more to get people talking. I've found a friend though in the group who's been a great support and we dm frequently. The groups could also be separated out better by the people using them- there are people in my group who have very different goals and struggles than I do, and we aren't very good support for each other. I'd like to see more recipes, and the fitness tracking needs to get fixed! The more I have to depend on other apps to supplement this, the less I value paying for Noom's service. I'll definitely keep using it for now, it's getting me where I want to go!
I joined Noom thru my employer's health insurance company's option. Although I was tracking my diet and activities for the past two years on a freebie app and I was losing weight, the one-on-one guidance with my coach and the connection with the others in my group gave be a whole new burst of energy and motivation. I read a lot of articles, but the ones in Noom are short, sweet, to the point, and really informative. My coach interacts daily with personal comments and suggestions, and using Noom helped me drop another 24 pounds when I was plateauing on my own. You'll get out of this what you put into it. My group became instrumental in helping me as well. Sure, there were individuals who were younger, stronger, more active, but like Noom teaches you: Run Your Own Race, Hike Your Own Hike, and Live Your Own Life! They'll create a personal plan for you; forget everybody else's goals. You'll get out of this what you put into it, so be supportive of others and watch everybody succeed together, but 'run your own race' and focus on your goals and not that you're not keeping up to the intensity of others! I highly recommend Noom! My coach understood my physical limitations from my military career injuries; she worked around them and helped me create and execute a plan that worked for me! When I took short cuts she chewed my butt in nice sort of way. But the encouragement was always there! Give Noom a try! I was really surprised by my motivation to succeed that I didn't have before!
I liked the idea of this app, however, when it comes time to decide whether or not you want to actually continue with the program, the only way to cancel your subscription is to message your "coach" who seems to have conveniently disappeared now that I'm asking to cancel my subscription so I don't get charged almost $200 when I can't afford it right now. I had to take all of the money out of my account and cancel the card I gave them so that I don't lose that money because all of a sudden there is no response from their system. They prey on people who want to lose weight by offering a feel good program but they will take your money and run! Their coaches seemed to disappear by the 13th day of the two week trial. RUN NOW!!!!! Save the money and your time and DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS APP!!!!!!!
I joined Noom and have now completed my 16 week program. I have no idea what happens next, as no one has contacted me to tell me what the program will be moving forward or how much it will cost. I am cancelling. Coaching: got assigned a coach who is on EST, two hours later than my time zone. Because of this, I am never able to get a timely response from her which is not her fault. She's off duty when it's 3pm my time. Also, the coaching is not really coaching. She never once mentioned what I was logging for foods or exercise. She did ask about setting goals, but I did not find it to be very beneficial. Group: I was placed in a support group, which was then merged with another small group with the same coach that began two weeks earlier. As such, I was never introduced to people in the group, and when I was instructed to comment in the group about goals, the other ladies had already done that and no one ever commented on my posts. So, no interaction. Most of the ones who posted there were much younger women (I am 38) who needed to lose about 10-15 lbs. (I need to lose 80) one annoying lady kept logging all her run keeper workouts there and then she would comment about how fat she felt that day because she only ran 3 mi instead of 5. The message board groups on WW are much better and you get to join with people who have commonalities. There was almost ZERO interaction on the group page. Not supportive, and not really a group. Articles: The articles and challenges are pretty good. I already knew most of the info contained in them. There was very little advice/info about what to eat. App and technology: the app never managed to sync with my step counter. Ever. I had to manually sync it nearly every day and even then, the steps would short me about 2000 steps. Your calorie allowance is linked to your steps. So, I have no idea if my calorie allowance was right ever. You can send in a feedback form on the app but your feedback is never acknowledged. Food logging is easy, and the database is pretty decent, but there are many free food logging apps better and they're free. The coach never looks at your food logs or if she does she never comments on it. For this to work, I would need to know that a coach would call me on it if I ate nothing but McDonalds for a week. Which I logged just to see if she would. She didn't. Overall, the concepts would be good if they actually provided coaching with some sort of dietary coaching and planning and did more to keep you honest. They also need to be more transparent about what they are charging and when, because I could find it NOWHERE. I don't recommend it. It's not what their advertisements lead you to believe.
This is not at ALL what is advertised. Noom is advertised as a personalized coaching program, when all it really offers is system-generated messages. I'm fairly certain that there aren't even any actual coaches, just bot profiles from which the system-generated messages are sent. I've sent messages to my "coaches" asking questions, and instead of receiving a reply, I received a canned message that had nothing to do with my question. Since I'm supposed to "message my coach" to cancel my trial subscription, I'm bracing for the time that they charge me even though I have requested to cancel multiple times. [I guess the bot conveniently doesn't recognize the command "cancel".] In addition, there are only two programs: healthy weight or diabetes. The "information" is information that most adults already know, and you cannot customize your goals in the app. I keep changing mine and it kept changing back to the system default settings; in fact, my question I mentioned above was me asking my "coach" (clearly a bot) whether I could change my program because I didn't think it was the right program for me. She replied, "Hey! Thanks so much for sharing. Welcome to Noom! I'm Eva, your Noom concierge - I'm here to set you up with your customized course and assign you to your own personal coaching team!"—a duplicate of the first welcome message I received. It also doesn't integrate with Apple Watch in any meaningful way (it only shares information from Health Kit). Ridiculous. I have now messaged both coaches asking to cancel, as the FAQ instructs users to do, and I have yet to receive a reply. If I had been looking for some guidance at a restaurant or the grocery store, that window would have looooooong passed. Don't give these folks your credit card info. Go with a more known quantity, or—better yet—do it yourself.
I buy and consume a ton of goods and services online, but rarely do I ever leave reviews. I think that in a way makes me a bad e-citizen. So I'm writing this to indemnify myself. I was in pretty bad shape and needed a major intervention. I had joined a gym and hired a trainer, enrolled in a nutrition program, but something still felt like it was too lax. I needed monitoring and support when I was at my weakest. I ran across noom on Facebook. Everything about it just made sense. It's using the science, he psychology, the nutrition know how and combining it with an app that helps you track everything. It helps that I have a Fitbit and a Withings scale - everything syncs up and it's beautiful. Food tracking is pretty easy, I have to enter all mine manually because I'm eating preportioned meals. But it's not that hard. Easier than MyFitnessPal. And the coach feature is pretty great. It's nice to have someone that isn't your friend or relative to talk to about your progress. I'm just trying to lose as much weight as possible as fast as possible. Noom is just another great tool that's going to make sure I get there.
Been on for a week and LOVING it. It keeps your head in the game, instead of only being mindful when you have a meeting or weigh-in coming up. Absolutely love it.
You will not have ANY control over your subscription and if you need to cancel, good luck. DO NOT give this company your credit card number!
Trying to end this service is like trying to get cable repaired. No replies. No contact. Just a pain. And now the app just freezes at the login screen.
I love the program and everything about it!!! I am seeing results while having fun too!!! It is great for accountability and that is what I needed!!!
After reading the reviews from the app, I cancelled immediately via the message to coach option. Of course, you get zero response. Luckily, I paid with PayPal and you can cancel their authorization to bill you once the trial has ended.
I signed up for my free trial last Thursday and have only heard from my coach once. I realized the free trial/program is something I do not want anymore. I've messaged my coach multiple times and emailed support with no response yet. I will be taking this further if my program is not canceled before I am charged.
This app is the Hotel California!! You can never leave--even after they take your money!!!! They advise canceling via your phone, but even after the "free" trial, it's still not listed. This app is insidious and dirty. They just helped themselves to my money and show no signs of giving it back. RUN!!!!
I've been on this about 2 weeks and so far am happy with the system. The coaching has been very helpful in keeping you accountable for your eating and exercising. I also like that your doing it with a group so you can reach out to them for support or advice at any time.
Not just a good and exercise tracker, the program keeps you accountable with a coach and a group. You also get little articles to read every day about how to make the most effective changes to help you reach your weight loss and fitness goals.
