Convenient. A good way to track metro. Although this is made by a gaming company (I think) so I don’t think there will be a lot of downloads. On the brightside I get to be a know it all with all the trains data :)

Pretty cool. Even though I don't use this I think y'all's other game is cool so u no keep it up I guess? But yall need a new game type

Good app. Needs some more work though.. This app has come a long way since I first started using it 3-4 years ago. The only real criticism I have with the app is the timetable data it uses does not match the times shown on my line, the Belgrave line. It is out buy +2min. Not sure if this is specific to the Belgrave line or all lines. It’s not a huge margin but could cause you to miss your train if you’re not aware of it. You would think the app would use the same data or be able to update its data over the air. Hopefully this will be addressed at some point in the future.

alerts overwrite times. it's ok when it works but when there is a delay the delay message overwrites the train times regardless of which direction you are traveling. for instance I travel inbound but there is an outbound delay therefore I am not allowed to see the train times for the inbound . therefor most of the time this app is useless .

May as well uninstall. Have been unable to open the app for weeks, same issue that others have reported regarding not being able to connect to server, also on latest iOS, with all updates to the app installed. Issue still has not been resolved.

App ok if services run to schedule. Concur with other views that the app is useful as long as there are no notifications overriding the schedule which indicates the next 4 services. Who would have thought that although you find the cancellation notice useful, you still need to know the travel times. Bottom line, based on how a cancellation notice is displayed, it immediately diminishes the functionality of the app.

Even in your own screenshot of the app. App has worsened in features over time. Can no longer see time, signal strength or battery when app is open. See screenshots of the app on App Store. Also, when a route with multiple lines was selected there was the option to see all possible services to get you to your destination. Now everything has to be separated by line so you need two or three windows to see your route. Combine this with the Flinders St lift closures showing on the main screen, and not being collapsible, it makes the app pretty much useless as you have to scroll to see what used to be glanceable information. PTV app summary screen is more useful than this, only keep it for the push notifications about delays.

Needs work. If there are major outages in one direction you can't change the direction - pita if going home and it's inbound trains being cancelled. UI isn't instinctive, there is morning update, but not an afternoon update Needs a message to state why there is an issue, integrate twitter messages and a filter - unify the messaging. Basic app, not always in realtime, needs a polish and maybe a rethink on channel integration for messaging

Hmmmm... well.... The app is okay, I suppose. It doesn't have a function to only be alerted when there is bad news. And once there is bad news, there is no way to delete the bad news notification on the app interface and go back to the timetable. But the main problem IS the timetable... which isn't the app's fault, per se... But the train times are largely a fantasy... more a wish list on PTV's part. Real time and location reporting of train movements is years overdue.

Great Idea, Poor UX. This is an example of a great idea, executed poorly. I want to know about problems on the my train line of choice. However, I only want to know when I’m planing to use those train line/s. Let’s say I’m planning on catching a train on the Belgrave line at 7:00am. That’s when I want to know about issues, possibly up to an hour before hand so I can decide if I need to make alternative arrangements. Not at 12:30pm when I’ve finished using the service or at 11:30pm when I’m going to sleep. If the UX team just thought about how people would use the app, they could have specified a much better user experience for the developers to have built. I’ll still use the app but I’ll have to manually turn on and off notifications.

Does what’s expected. Does what’s expected. But can you set times for notifications? I almost never take the train on weekends or late at night yet I will still get notifications of the line I use. People who have notifications connected to smart watches will know how annoying it can be.

Works almost fine. It works pretty well, my only complaint is that the train arrival times are hidden beneath delay notices. I don’t really care if a train originated at a station further up the line, I just want to know when my train will depart.

Lets you choose which times you care about. I can specify within the app whether I care about alerts for weekdays peak hours, all weekdays and/or all weekends. It alerts only for the journeys you select (stop to stop, not entire line).

Not aligned with real-world requirements. This app demonstrates how a system model can dictate design to the detriment of end-users. This usually happens when developers lead design and there is no User Experience Designer/Research on the team. In real-world use, a user would enter a daily point of origin & destination regardless of which line(s) it was serviced by. They would specify daily travel periods to ensure alerts did not come through outside those periods (or leading up to those periods). The system would then be smart enough to know if disruptions affected the portion of the line(s) the user travelled on (they’re not interested in issues affecting the line far beyond their destination). Needs a good re-think.

Waste of time. Worst app ever - absolutely no point having a notification app when the notifications don't accurately reflect what's actually happening with the trains. For example, this morning the app tells me the 6.55 train is running on time due in 6 mins. The departure board at the station however says the 6.55 is due in 17 mins (i.e. 11 mins late). Not sure why Metro bothered with the app at all? I would have given this no stars but it forces you to choose at least one, hence the one star rating

A way to mute when not travelling. I find this app super helpful, I live close to two separate train lines so it’s great to know what is happening when I have to get somewhere. However, when I’m not travelling I’d love a temporary mute function as the constant updates get too much when I don’t have to travel (honestly there can be 30+ notifications when something is going down). Or a way to say “yes, I acknowledge this problem, thanks, I don’t need more notifications today”. It’s great to be informed, but there isn’t a way to control the info once it’s starts coming through.

Useless - just like Melbourne's public transport system. It's not surprising that the Metro Notify app is useless when you consider the terrible job Metro does of running Melbourne's train services. Notifications only in the morning - which are usually sent at least 10 mins too late; can only send inbound trips, can't save outbound; information on it is often out of date. And when you go to the app support - surprise surprise, there is none!

Know how to use it. Several people giving a 1 star review for this app aren't even using it properly. Once you select your route(s), you get all the notifications on delays/cancelations for that specific train line. If you don't select any routes, then you don't get any notifications except general ones. It's pretty simple. I get plenty of notifications for my route, probably too many which made me turn the sound off in notification settings. But still very handy without the sound. Great app, keeps me up to date on my line. Thanks

Could be a great app if it had live updates about specific pre-selected services. Just down loaded the app thinking I could get notifications about the trains I generally catch. Unfortunately it looks like the app only goes to train line and station level and you can only select brackets of time in the AM. I have evening commitments, as most people do, so being able to receive alerts about PM services would be useful too. I have the PTV app as well which shows live info about services. Why can’t there be something that combines the aim of both apps so I can set up alerts for my favourite services? For example, it would be useful to receive an alert when the 8:24 from Heathmont is cancelled so I don’t have to hang around for 30mins waiting for the next service. I could instead rush for the 8:15 or laze around the house for another 20mins doing laundry or tormenting my children. I know these seem like insignificant first world problems but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t have first world expectations. This sort of app would really help a busy girl out.

Great to be able to look up trip times. Works well enough, updates/notification of issues could be sooner and the app more informative on travel alternatives (to avoid overcrowding during delays or breakdowns).

New update fixes everyone. The new update has fixed a heap of stuff like you can now see upcoming works and the exact departure times this looks a lot like The website Thanks

Could be useful, but isn’t.. I’ve had this app since Metro cancelled the sms notification service. I was looking for an “app feedback” contact but couldn’t find one so see my suggestions below. I have two points: Why is the twitter feed updated more regularly than the line status within the app? This makes the app redundant most of the time, usually when there are major delays. Hardly a week goes by without some catastrophic failure/delay on the Craigieburn line (god forbid there is any form of precipitation - instant delays). Melbourne needs some serious investment in signalling systems but I guess that’s another issue. Make the twitter feed accessible within the app if you won’t update the app info as regularly. My station (Roxburgh Park) does not show the next 4 departures. In fact, it specifically says “no departures”. While this is true as least once a week (see point one), this appears to be a bug and needs to be fixed. This essentially removes any further usefulness about the app.

Line updates hide needed information.. When the app gives a line update it then hides all other information about the line one can not clear this information so the app becomes useless. Yes I know the station is closed now I need the more pertinent information of the 8:07 train being canceled but you won’t tell me just that the station is closed.

Doesn't actually know when trains will arrive. This app is rubbish, it has no idea. It's not actually wired into the system like you'd expect it to be, like tram tracker for example, which is brilliant. At a guess it just holds the schedules and unless some operator somewhere MANUALLY adds a notification or a delay, we don't get any updates, add to that the fact that anything 5 minutes or under isn't considered a delay (IT IS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU RELY ON CONNECTING TRAINS). On the upfield line today at Flemington Bridge station for example it was reporting that the line wasn't experiencing any delays and the 9:31 would arrive on time, that time passed and it moved onto reporting that the next train wasn't experiencing any delays without the 9:31 actually having arriving, minutes passed, there was an inaudible announcement over the speaker system and people were getting worried the train may have been cancelled as NO ONE understood what had been said. This is utterly useless. This app has the potential to be really great as you guys have this information, as at certain stations we get to the minute delays on those overhead boards. WHY DON'T YOU INCORPORATE THIS DATA INTO THE APP. I get daily notifications from this app that are more often than not, completely wrong which means you can't rely on them which makes the whole thing pointless

If only it notified when there were problems!. This app is called Notify, which implies we get some sort of notification when there are delays or cancellations. Oh how presumptuous of me! I'm signed up for weekday peak and all notifications are enabled in Settings, so it's not dumb user at work. Occasionally I get told at 7am that trains are running on time, that's nice. I don't seem to get any message if there are any delays in the morning - I make the incorrect assumption that no news is good news only to get to my station and find out about cancellations from the staff and the overflowing train carriages. I'm yet to receive ANY afternoon peak notifications (aside from the occasional midday 'the lift is broken') and regularly find myself on a platform hearing about train cancellations, again. If only the app did what it said it would.

Useless for stations that express trains bypass. Despite the app asking you to put in the station you start/finish at, if that station is sometimes bypassed by express trains it still lists those trains as options. And the app gives you no indication they won’t stop at your station. So completely and inaccurate and of zero use.

What a joke. The whole point of a metro service is frequent reliable services... so the fact you have an app specifically to tell when the service is infrequent and unreliable is already a bad sign. But that’s just the Metro Trains service... this app on the other hand is unbelievably bad. Perhaps the worst I’ve ever used. Choosing your trips is an awful experience with little clarity about how I should choose the stations... do I need to add both directions for a trip? Who knows, your app certainly doesn’t tell me! The unlabelled status indicators on the line status page are confusing, inaccessible, and just plain unusable. But the real issue with this app is that at the very moment you NEED to know when the next services are arriving (I.e. when something’s wrong with the line) it simply wont show you. Dead serious — if the line is anything but perfect service it won’t show you upcoming trains. It’s actually laughable. So in lieu of a decent train service (because let’s be honest, we’ll never get that from the pinnacle of ineptitude that is Metro Trains) could you PLEASE at least provide an app that is of some damned use!

Poor. Sadly the app doesn’t notify you of major train line issues until well after the fact. And when it eventually does the link to the details of the issue doesn’t work because it’s “unable to contact the server”. So all in all pretty useless.

Half a55 attempt at notifying customers. How do i get the app to stop alerting me of all issues with my select led lines? I don’t care what is happening at Lilydale at 10pm! I only want to know about relevant lines on select days and times. Also, and this is probably the first thing you need to sort out: Your times for trains are wrong. The app conflicts the station info, which is sort of confirmed when an actual train arrives... how embarrassing.

Special trains for footy. There was a special train announced to go from Etihad straight after the game to Elsternwick. So far so good. When we left southern cross station the announcement and also the train showed Elsternwick. When we arrived flinders st station the special service to Elsternwick was suddenly cancelled and replaced by the Frankston train. No alert on metro notify! Pathetic app for special footy trains.

Poor effort. Installed tonight, could never use either on the train or at home on wifi. As many others state “We are having trouble connecting to the server. Pls check your internet connection and try later” Nothing wrong with my internet connection! All other apps work fine. I may try tomorrow then delete if the same Worker at station advised Metro run the trains do more reliable than PTV especially with all current disruptions. But that’s little use if it can’t connect.

Doesn't work and is often false information. Hardly ever sends an alert when there are delays, indicates 'Good Service' when it's not, and sends alerts for lines you haven't selected to get alerts from. Occasionally morning alerts will work correctly, but this is usually received too late, and afternoon alerts about cancelled services or delays almost never work.

Good concept, bad app. Revising my previous review in the old app from two starts to one. The added features are a good concept but the app regularly freezes and crashes, even freezes my whole phone. Notifications are not a given with this app but instead a luxury, much like metros train service.

Would give it zero stars if I could. It tells me most mornings at 7am that the service on my line is good. Sometimes I get told about a delay here and there. But when we need this the most is during major outages which Metro Melbourne specializes in. On 13th July there was no information and I had to come to the station to find out all trains are cancelled. Another user CarlarlaC complained about the very same thing a year back and there's still no improvement. I'd give this app zero stars if I could.

Connect to server issue. As others have reported, app worked fine for a while but I am now continually encountering a “cannot connect to server” issue. There is no obvious fix and no information from the developers. Disappointing.

Very helpful app. Once you select your line and stations it shows you the next four train times from the chosen stations and if they are late, all rail works coming up and gives very helpful notifications. I don’t understand why this app has such low ratings!

Love the update!. Easy to use, not complicated shows exactly what is needed. Way better than the PTV app

know how to use it. if you use the app correctly, and add which metro lines you take and want the notifications for, it sends you updates regularly - saved me many times from cancellations and so often I’ll be on the train and receive a notification about planned work and the p.a system in the train will repeat the announcement 2 minutes later, pretty cool, definitely needs a few updates though

Planned works?. Aside from the major flaw of not being up to date (could take a lesson from TramTRACKER), why can’t you see all the planned works from your line, even though it tells you there are numerous ones planned? I want to look at them all, but it doesn’t seem to give me an option to check. It’s okay as a baseline app, but it needs some serious work.

Doesn't work. My Belgrave line was suspended this morning at 7:00am due to power line problems but I didn't find out until I get to the station at 7:30am because there was no alert. I could have gone to another line if it actually sent me an alert. The only alerts it sends me are when the lifts aren't working at stations...... Why do I care about that???

Great App. Never had any issues - gives accurate information especially handy when cancellations or delays occur.

Deceptive representation. This app is deceptive and doesn’t give “live updates” of the actual services as claimed. If a train is stopped outside Richmond/FlindersSt/SpencerSt/NorthMelb, and delayed for 5 or 10 minutes, don’t expect it to tell you that the train is late. If they are running late and terminate a train service before it’s stated destination and initiate a new city-bound train service from that intermediate station, don’t expect to read about it on this app. It makes you wonder about how they’re meeting their “targets” and how accurate that data is. But don’t expect to get any real information about that because it is supposedly “commercial in confidence”. A public transport service with zero accountability for the foreign operators.

The PTV APP. Hi everyone, I would say those who rated this APP poorly either didn’t understand how to use it or it was an earlier version. With this APP you are able to select which train line you use and would like service impacting updates. It tells me when services are cancelled or running late. I highly recommend it, I have been trying it out for over a month now.

No longer works. I used to like this App, despite previous reviews, I found it I useful and it gave me information of disruptions in my line long before Metro staff announced it, but for the past few weeks it no longer connects with the server. I have the latest IOS installed and still nothing.

Average app. It’s ok for morning notifications when a train has been cancelled, but it doesn’t warn of platform changes or most delays. Can’t seem to get it to notify me about truncated services like Flinders to/from Blackburn, only choice is Lilydale or Belgrave.

A start but must try harder. Sort of useful with it showing the next four trains at my specified stations. However, if there are any disruptions to the line then those times are never shown. I really don't care if a train was cancelled almost an hour ago opposite to my direction of travel. I care about what trains will arrive at my station next.

Nice idea but delayed notifications mean its pointless. When you get notifications for selected lines and the alerts arrive 30-40 mins after they are relevant ( such as when train network manipulates stats by skipping stations ).... well they are just pointless as it's too late to make alternative plans. Perhaps some basic checks against when an event happened and when notifications arrive might be a good start

Very basic. Basic information available on delays. What is bad about the app is that soon as there is some sort of a delay in which ever direction, next train information is no longer available.

In need of significant improvement. MetroNotify needs the following improvements. When there is an alert for an affected or cancelled train, the other trains need to still show. Real time alerts are not accurate. The screens on the stations sometimes show different departing times. Needs more insitu testing before it can be relied on.

Great idea, too bad poorly executed.. It's great to have alerts but even though I customised my route and travel times I still get alerts for stations I don't use and for times I do t travel. The options are all there to customise when to get alerts, but the app seems to ignore my input.

If I could give this app 0 stars I would.. Pointless app that doesn’t actually work. When I first download it worked fine though it would notify you of a cancellation well and truly past the time the train was even due. Not sure how that is supposed to help. I’ve changed my train line a few times and when I did it would continue to send me reminders of my old train line. I’ve changed train lines again and now I don’t get any notifications whatsoever? Very very poorly built app. Get new developers.

V/Line Service. This app is really good, because I go to the MCG every week for football and I was tired of waiting not knowing how long it was going to be but you get the point, anyway, I head on trains from Pakenham to Moe with a V/Line but I can't seem to find the line that goes from Pakenham to Moe, and I don't want to get a separate app just for V/Lines. Overall it's great 4/5 because no V/Lines.
