PlantNet App Description & Overview

What is plantnet app? Pl@ntNet is an application that allows you to identify plants simply by photographing them with your smartphone. Very useful when you don't have a botanist on hand!

Pl@ntNet is also a great citizen science project: all the plants you photograph are collected and analysed by scientists around the world to better understand the evolution of plant biodiversity and to better preserve it.

Pl@ntNet allows you to identify and better understand all kinds of plants living in nature: flowering plants, trees, grasses, conifers, ferns, vines, wild salads, cacti (and many more).

Pl@ntNet can also identify a large number of cultivated plants (in parks and gardens) but this is not its primary purpose. We especially need Pl@ntNet’s users to inventory the wild plants, those that you can observe in nature, but also those that grow on the sidewalks of cities or in the middle of your vegetable garden!

The more visual information you give to Pl@ntNet about the plant you are observing, the more accurate the identification will be. There are indeed many plants that look alike from afar and it is sometimes small details that distinguish two species of the same genus.

Flowers, fruits and leaves are the most characteristic organs of a species and it is them that should be photographed first. But any other detail can be useful, such as thorns, buds or hair on the stem. A photograph of the whole plant is also very useful information, but it is often not sufficient to allow a reliable identification.

At present, Pl@ntNet makes it possible to recognize about 20,000 species. We are still a long way from the 360,000 species living on earth, but Pl@ntNet is getting richer every day thanks to the contributions of the most experienced users among you.

Don't be afraid to contribute yourself! Your observation will be reviewed by the community and may one day join the photo gallery illustrating the species in the application.

The new version of Pl@ntNet released in January 2019 includes many improvements and new features:
-The ability to filter recognized species by genus or family.
-The differentiated data revision that gives more weight to users who have demonstrated the most skills (in particular the number of species observed, validated by the community).
-The re-identification of shared observations, whether yours or those of other users of the application.
-The multi-flora identification that allows you to search for the photographed plant in all the flora of the application and not only in the one you have selected. Very useful when you are not sure what flora to look for.
-The selection of your favorite floras to access them more quickly.
-The navigation at different taxonomic levels in image galleries.
-The mapping of your observations.
-Links to many factsheets.

The web version of the application is also available at the following address: https://identify.plantnet.org/

PlantNet app. I’ve tried several plant matching apps — PlantNet is far an above the most accurate. Matching by flower is pretty easy, and PlantNet gets an A+. But it is terrific at leaves also! It is super easy to use, and the Confirm process is great — you really see clearly the plant you are trying to match against the PlantNet suggestion — so your own eyes can confirm a match. I love it!

What the www is all about. Incredible tool for plant ID. Not only does it tell you what the plant is, but allows you to drill down to learn detail. Once identified there is a row of icons that allow you to hyperlink into say the Wikipedia entry for it. Even better, the icon immediately to the left of the Wiki link is an ‘I’ link which allows deeper ‘drilling’ to include .edu articles on the species and thus articles on medicinal uses; herbal remedies; poison warnings; even recipes. This is what the web is really for y’all!

Refreshing. It is awesome to find an app free (as of today) of marketing and other nuisances with monetizing modern practices that -most of is I suppose- I so personally dislike. OK, leaving that statement behind. This site (both in the app and the web) offers a no brainer method to learn about plants (in all their splendor here, there, and everywhere) and share your local biodiversity with others which -it is earlier for me to assure but I trust is the goal- as sharing their photos and expertise help me to become more comfortable with learning about my local plant biology. I also need to thank modern smart phone cameras for allowing a user friendly way into making the transition from picture to app fluent without much steps (obviously this is not a feature of the app but of the smart phone) between snapping the picture and uploading it to my account. Keep it commercial free.

PlantNet. During covid-19 sheltering and shutdowns, my plant love has rekindled ever brighter on my neighborhood walks. Of all the 4 plant apps i downloaded to help me identify the abundance of flaura here, PlantNet is my #1 go to. It makes me happy and is extremely user friendly to navigate. So much so, i want to interview these awesome developers to learn from their mastery and see if maybe there is a way to work with them develop an ocean app that keeps percolating for me. It involved coral reef restoration - art, sci, tech, international community involvement. I'm not an avid app user, yet this app inspires and delivers. I am an artist working with ecology; so grateful for PlantNet. Thanks for creating this wonderful world of fun and discovery to keep me engaged with beautiful aliveness during the pandemic.

High Regards. I was looking for a truly free app. I installed several, but they all wanted my credit card for their “free” trial. PlantNet is truly free. Thank you. However, PlantNet offers several really attractive options to me, the % rankings and the ability to confirm others’ submissions in particular, hence training the machine learning. But beyond what I personally like, it’s convenient, intuitive, and good for identifying plants- which is why I got it in the first place. No problems with stability, even though I’m running on an older operating system.

Love this!. Best plant identifier app I have used and I have tried them all! I only wish there was a section for fungi/mushrooms but I realize those are kind of tricky. This app has been so amazingly useful for our garden (yes we have made a garden in central Arizona, small and took two years to sort of figure it out lol) and yard and desert flora and Fauna.

Perfect for my flower garden!. I’m have a large flower garden and random things pop up all the time! Partly due to my mother planting perennials she found on sale (for next year) or those things that reseeded from who knows where! This app is perfect! I can see what flowers bloom at a certain time of year, what things do great (and not so great) in my space. It does a great job of identifying what I have. This app is going to do my flower garden planning for me! 🌺🌼🌸🌻

App is very good. Non of the other apps that I was looking at were free we tried one and it was inaccurate, and totally different than the pictures now I now know that I have artichokes in my garden plus I can see what other people have. It’s like a plant Facebook; and I can see plants that grow on different country’s/states around the world. Love this app, it’s especially good for new gardeners! And plant lovers that’s why I gave it a 5/5 review

Incredibly Significant!👍🤩🤯😱. This is one of the most accurate apps I have ever had in my life! I’ve been discovering what the weird wildflowers in my yard were and it’s all thanks to this app. Now, I know so much about flowers and plants and what they are! I love gardening and flowers so this app is majorly helping me. If anyone is an outdoor guy like me, this is THE APP!!! The best part is is that it’s FREE!!!!!!!!!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩 Thank you for inventing such a nice app that’s helpful! I’m showing this to my family so they can experience the greatness of this app!

Very educational and fun to use!. This is great for a plant lover to use for practical reasons, or just for enjoyment. Sometimes you go to a nursery, and you see a plant you like, but there is no tab on the plant to identify it. Or you take a walk and see something that you would like to add to your garden. This app is very helpful, and identifying plants properly is the first step to being able to research and take care of them. One of my favorite apps!

So helpful, love it. unlike most other apps like this in the app store, this is completely free. no in app purchases, not even any ads! i love how with non-native plants, if there is no native match, the search engine will suggest plants from other parts of the world, and that has really come in handy. it is also great in that with any picture, you can choose what part of the plant is in the picture/what you’d like to identify, and along with the closest match, it also gives other possibilities and relatives. great app, all i ask is that you don’t sell out and start making this cost money!

Very impressed. I have tried a couple plant identification apps, including free trials from expensive apps. I had been trying to identify small plants from the sprinkling of wild flower seeds I had tossed last year. Most came back unknown from other apps, but this one identified very obscure plants. I am really impressed. I also love that it gives a percentage of what it might be and allows you to confirm if you know what it is. I will be enjoying this app for a long time!

5 stars for accuracy and no issues. I have had no issues with PlantNet with ads, requests, privacy issues, etc. Several competing apps have crazy issues with ads everywhere including long, unskippable video ads. This PlantNet app has proven to be the most accurate app while also being the least annoying.

Absolutely best app. I don’t understand why people are complaining. There’s no ads, it has an awesome feed for your area, it gives you a percentage of accuracy and you can share with your community! Not only that it gives you links so you can research further. I was able to find so so many wild edibles on my property!! From walnut and mulberry trees, to lambs quarters and black raspberries and dames rocket and wild grapes!!! This is absolutely the best free app on the market!!!

First use worked well. I am enthusiastic this app will continue to work well. Two plants we brought home from the store had identification included with the plant. After using this app we were able to validate the app was correctly identifying the flowing plant. Now we are going outside to identify some native plants in the Mt. Baker, Washington area. Review update pending results

Super accurate. I’ve tried a few plant ID apps before, and they were all so bad that i assumed the technology just wasn’t there yet. Today I was taking a walk at a marsh, and I ran into another aspiring botanist/birder, and after half an hour of conversation she recommended this app to me. I’ve identified 3 plants so far, it works incredibly well, and the interface is so nice. thank you marsh lady!!

App works great, how can I get the rainbow icon?. I downloaded this app because the most recent reviews stated the camera icon is a rainbow color. How do I unlock the rainbow camera?? Mine is only green, I was so excited for the rainbow one!!! In all seriousness, this app has been great! It has correctly identified all of the many plants I have in my garden (which I started off with, to test the app) as well as the unknown plants I have surrounding my yard. I also loves that it tells you if a plant is poisonous or not- super helpful for us with animals that’ll eat anything!

Great App. This app has been exactly what I need. My only quibble is that when I try to sign up, the button to “sign up” is covered by the keyboard that pops up to fill in your name, email, etc. and there’s no option for making the keyboard go away. I’m a bit frustrated that I can’t sign up and contribute - what am I doing wrong?

Great for Plant ID. The only reason I selected “4” for the rating is due to the fact that the payable app (not same maker) and app is almost $40 per year! It will tell you what you need to use or do to your plant to revive it! I so wish the free version on this maker would be able to achieve the same thing and still keep it free. That would be majorly awesome! But I do love the app it does identify plants and I’ve been missing with Bondi so it really helps. Thank you so much.

The AI is great, other details.... It’s amazing to watch the ID happen moments after uploading one pic. Other details of the app are not great. I kept trying to add a pic from my camera roll and then supplement w a newly taken photo of the same specimen. Not possible, plus renders the first set of pics unsubmittable. Also adding pics from camera roll causes them to be duplicated in the roll. Annoying. Barebones explanations generally. Not at all clear what the stars mean.

My Fav App, But. This is really the only app I use for Plant ID. I like the community effort that goes into the data, especially different photo inputs from people because it helps me compare and see slight differences for comparison. It’s the app I recommend to other plant enthusiasts. I prefer it because I like the layout, it’s usability, and it’s accessibility. Other apps are behind a paywall or require sign up with personal information; I never get far enough to use them - I delete those almost as soon as they are installed. One thing I dislike about this app is that while more information for the plants are available by clicking on the plant name after you ID your photo(s) is that there is no way to highlight the text to copy/paste OR share the findings with another. I have to manually look up the plant again in a search engine using the common name and then find the Wiki article again. I can’t memorize the scientific names, or type them all out when sharing on the go in a busy day.

Hard to use. It was difficult to set up and use. During set up, I got caught in a loop when I declined it to know my location. I had to uninstall and start over, but when I started over, my userid hadn’t been fully registered from the first try, I got weird errors (like, “invalid token”)so had to reset my pw before I could continue. Finally got it set up after several tries and took a picture of a house plant I wanted to identify. The app gave me several possibilities and I had to confirm which one I thought is was. There were several different options that looked like my plant, so I’m still not sure what plant it is. I confirmed 3 different options, and shared it. I guess I now have to wait for other people to “vote” on it I guess. Are the voters people that are as clueless as me? I can barely tell a cactus from an elm tree so I’m not confident in the process.

So helpful for plant ID!. I think this app is wonderful! It takes a picture and immediately gets the identification, complete with scientific classification. Use this app almost daily to see exactly what this beautiful nature is named and have been learning so much! I use it both outside and inside on my houseplants! And I feel it gets better and better as I’ve used it!

Easy to use. I’ve downloaded several identification apps, but for me this is the most user friendly. I can now check on the woodland flowers and plants very easily and record their names in my photos info. It seems quite accurate and rates % accuracy. It only takes a few seconds.

Free (so far) & Efficient. Have tried a few of these plant identification apps over the past 6 or so years. Honestly I feel like they all use very similar photo recognition software, if not the exact same. So they all do a pretty swell job (including this app) at locating the correct plant species via a user uploaded photo. However, this app is free and takes donations to stay afloat, rather than subscriptions. This fact alone causes me to like this app way more than the rest. I like being given the option to support this app, when it is financially feasible for me and my budget. I think this method will bring grow the community within the app, and strengthen the membership as a whole. The one suggestion I have is to maybe clean up the interface. It’s a little clunky, and awkward. Not too user friendly in all aspects, although it is in a few. In some areas there are more options to choose from where there needs to be less, and in other areas there are less options to choose from where there needs to be more. There should be more regions to choose from when saving your identified plant photo & information. Otherwise it’s a solid app, and I am happy with my download... thank you! Cheers!

First time using…. I decided to try this app today and when I opened it all I had to do was to snap a shot and it identified the plant very accurately. I was able to add all plants to My Plants section however, when I went to open it again later, the whole home page had changed and my list was gone and so was the My Plants section at the bottom. I tried taking a pic again and this time it became a four-step process having to pic Family or Genus etc. don’t know why it changed but I wouldn’t pass this app on to anyone based on my experience.

Great App for Identification. This is a wonderful app for all types of flowers and foliage both for wildflowers and flowerbeds. For walking in the woods or just around the neighborhood, this is easy to use and filled with the information you’re looking for. Two years later I’m still very happy using this app for identifying plants, I’ve tried a few other apps and was absolutely amazed at how unsure and inaccurate they were at identifying the simplest of plants. There were also no other pictures from others to compare to or even anything other than one choice of what they thought it might be. Example: I took a picture of my 50+ yo variegated snake plant and got this with no picture. “Unsure 6% odds it may be a cactus.” No thanks , I’ll stick with what works, this app is GREAT!

Fantastic with a grain of salt. The app is really a wonderful resource and is fairly accurate. The problem is the human error factor. It compiles positive identifications that people upload-but people sometimes don't look close enough and log a false positive- so a bunch of photos are associated with an Inaccurate id in perpetuity. Generally the app has the correct ID within its top five, and perhaps a double check online by users would make it perfectly accurate.... I do not hold my breath. The simple fact that it is free, gives it a pass, and with a little bit of diligence on our parts, it could be the greatest resource out there. Overall 5 stars, with a grain of salt as the idiom goes-lol.

Very useful and informative. There are a few plants I’ve found while riding my horse in the wilderness that no other app was able to identify. PlantNet was able to ID them! I only wish there was a way to save the info I’ve found without having to look up the plant again. Maybe there is and I have not yet found it…

Awesome compared to the others out there. Just as good as the better apps I've tried but no ads and no annoying reminders to upgrade. The other one I used for a while would ask you to upgrade all the time. As many as twice just in the process to identify one plant. This app is nearly identical in features. Very helpful in native woodland plant identification which I expected an app to have a harder time with.

Change and accuracy. Writing this to help development. I’ve used this app a few years but haven’t used in last 6 months months or so until recently. It used to be extremely accurate in id’ing my pics with a plant - I’m not looking up any unusual plants, I just forget the names of common plants. however the past few times ( in the last month or two), the app does not come close to identifying a match. It seems to be related to a change to this auto flora filter that wasn’t there before but I really don’t know. I’ve noticed when I expanded outside the US flora it found my plant last time. Which is odd considering I’m in the US! But in any case, something has changed that is impacting accuracy that I’ve not experienced in the past. Maybe it’s just dumb luck ( or unluck) but it may be worth the feedback.

Like better for two reasons. I like this plant id app better so far than any other because it’s two fo two on plant id that I tried so far and it’s also the only one that doesn’t FORCE me to sign into their deal before trying it. I very much appreciate that. For these two reasons I’ll upgrade. 👍

Shocked by how well it worked. I went into this app skeptical and I was completely shocked to find the first picture I uploaded showed me exactly what it was. This app is a perfect 5/5 for me, bravo to the developers. I hope it stays free and they can make money with ads or something *update* - just adding a quick update to my review because I’ve used it a few more times and I wish I could give this app more than five stars, it is absolutely amazing. It has worked for me 100% of the time, and is an invaluable tool.

Best for Plant Identification. Unless I don’t know where to look this app doesn’t offer care instructions but so far it’s extremely good at identifying plants - much, much better than the paid apps I’ve tried. It’s crowd-sources so I guess there’s a chance of something being misidentified but I’ve found it to be an extremely helpful app.

Loving this App for all its information!. Thank you for this App! I’ve always wanted to identify so many plants when I have traveled or been in nature. There are many local trees I didn’t know the name of and I can now take the time to identify them! I tried another App before using this one, and I am very pleased with how simple and easy it is to use this along with the extra knowledge I learn. Thank you for creating this splendid piece of information that’s easy to use! Angela in VA

Love the app BUT…. For some reason the camera isn’t working. I’ve closed it out & I’ve power cycled my phone. I keep getting error message that an error occurred while loading flora. There’s an option to change flora but when you tap on it, nothing happens, all I can do is tap on back. PLEASE FIX!! My internet connection is strong so idk what else could be the problem. When app works, it’s great!!

Good app. I use this app together with another app. This helps me narrow down or confirm this app’s identification. PlantNet seems to be right most of the time, which cannot be said for some other apps... I wish, however, that the app makers would amend a feature: under the information section that comes in the plant’s description, the “Uses” section would be more accurate and scientifically based. It is not valid to state that a plant is a “weed”, particularly if it is native to an area, possibly experiencing decline in numbers due to habitat destruction, and essential for ecosystem function. Even if a plant is successful and aggressive (sometimes obnoxiously so), it is not a weed if it is native.

Really well made app. It seems plant identification apps are a growing trend and so is the average $30 a year subscription fees that are cropping up. This app however is a free and extremely helpful database of plants full of information, and links to resources. Ten times more informational than other apps while functioning just as well. If you want to learn about the plants you’re identifying this is the perfect app.

Discouraged. I am a 59 y/o female and not the brightest cookie using the internet. But I tried everything I could do to figure out how to get back to the “groups” section, and felt like a complete idiot because I was unable to do so. On the day I signed up, I quickly went through them, but it’s like shopping, I like to see what all my options are first, then I go back and take my time with something I am interested in. Here, I do not have that option, and there was no warning sign letting a person know they would not be able to return after day one. If you are able, there is no one to ask how to return, I tried typing in the frequently asked questions and it was just blank. I couldn’t believe no one else has wanted to ask that question. It just left me feeling super old and stupid. Thanks

Professional use as a Horticulture Supplier. This app is the only one I used when I was working in a commercial greenhouse. I’d have customers bring up plants to purchase and want to know their names. I have pretty extensive knowledge but there would always be a plant that I couldn’t remember or something new that I couldn’t identify. This app has given me correct answers when most others wouldn’t. The option to select what part of the plant the image is from is awesome for nature hikes as well. In early spring there aren’t always leaves on some trees in my area but it would narrow down the options. Thanks to the app developers for creating something so useful and intuitive.

Not sure it’s trustworthy. I don’t know whether to believe the results I’m getting from this app. I found pictures of my ice plant but they called it a Hottentot Fig! Figs, really? Then I found pictures of a cactus I have which it called Long Spine Cactus...but it has almost no spines, certainly not long ones. And mixed in with those photos was one of a prickly pear...a very different shape! So if the app allows users to misidentify a plant but still upload their photo (into the wrong place), isn’t that just going to cause chaos & confusion?

Awesome 👍. I love this app. It is a great app! I highly recommend this app for plant identification. But there are a few cons... I don’t love how you are not allowed to say you don’t know what category it is in. When the option is there?! But it is a great app. I also don’t like that even if you get a clear picture it says unidentifiable. I get you can get everything but say sorry the app does not know. If I could I would give this a 4 and a half. Overall great app

Best App Ever!!!. Highly accurate information and interactive as well. Positively identified plant life can be submitted to help others identify as well- to a degree anyway. This is the only app I went out of the way to see if there was a premium for, not because the app is bad but contrary, I wanted to see if it had even COOLER functions. I don’t think there is a premium. Which means all this is free and accessible for all. (As far as I can tell) So before you mistake an edible herb for a poisonous ☠️ herb, check this out.

Awesome App. I’m a total novice so I can’t follow all the Family/ Genus stuff. It’s over my head. But the app lends itself to basic use too by listing the common names. My favorite part though is when you search a plant, the options offer pics of the flower, leaves, bark, etc.. There’s even a Wikipedia tab so you can read about the plant which can help in identification. Because it’s user driven, there’s good and bad. The good: TONS of submitted photos. The bad: Not all the submitted pics will be of the advertised plant (just means someone made a poor identification and “contributed” it to the database). This can fool you into thinking it’s something it’s not. It’s also up to the user network to “validate” everyone’s observations. Sadly there’s no flora-genius overseeing the thousands of contributions to determine the accuracy. That’s just wishful thinking. You’re relying on someone plant-savvy to stumble across your contribution and choose to validate you. Overall a kickass app. And it’s free! I’m learning slowly, but learning a lot.

Best gardening tool ever!. What I love about this app is - that it is Free. But because of this - you get more user interaction. This very accurate app lets you upload image and choose how to identify - whether from flower or leaf and more. It the shows a list of possibilities with other user submitted images to compare. Users and yourself verify images. I’m quite the gardener myself - but not always up on all the names. This is a great tool to add to any gardeners toolbox

Remarkable app. We just moved to a new home and with it came all kinds of mature plants. With established landscaping created by someone else, it’s hard to tell what’s a weed and what’s a plant/flower. This stopped us from pulling so many things we thought might be weeds to give them a chance. Sure enough, they’d flower into exactly what this app indicated. 5 stars every day of the week!!!

Awesome, got my plant right immediately!. I am hoping this we’ll become very handy in identifying the many plants that grow around my new home. One question- it says you can edit your location, but I cannot how to figure out how to do that, the current location for my picture I took shows where I live, and I do not feel comfortable with that. If I write my general area instead, will that new information remove the GPS location that shows automatically, or is there another step I have to do? Thanks for the great app!

Best plant identifier app so far. I’ve tried many apps to identify plants. So far this one takes first place. The interface is easy to use. What i love the most is that it gives you various suggestions with percentages of how likely it is to be said plant. It also shows you many pictures of the plant shared by the community so you can scroll and compare. I love this app. The only suggestion I can add is to allow us to create a group of the plants we own.

Solid app. I’ve always been in love with the natural world and this app has opened a whole new door to it for me. It’s only the 2nd app like this I’ve tried but Plantnet has exceeded my expectations. Only a couple small deviations I’ve found so far that if worked out could help take away one of the ?’s when trying to identify a plant and improve the over all quality When I search a identical picture of a plant from my LG phone and IPad I get two different results. For example, I had 5 results on the LG and 11 on the iPad. I believe the lesser number of results is always the same to the larger but why two different results? Also little more detail about the environment where they originated, uses, lifespan, are they threatened or endangered and a short summary how to care for would be amazing! It’s a great app though. Well done Plantnet! Can’t wait to continue growing my collection and discovering more of this near secret world of botany around us all.

Most accurate of those I’ve tried. I was getting tired of the app that I was previously using to identify plants - that app started identifying everything as a dicot. I download it half a dozen plant identification apps. Some of them wanted me to sign up for a trial before they would let me try them out; I’m not partial to that. Others would freely let me try them out, and failed miserably on the various plants in my yard. This app correctly identified just about everything, and it didn’t asked me to sign up for anything in advance. The only thing I think that it did not get was a very tiny sprout it was barely above the dirt line. Even then, it gave a plausible guess. Another thing I like is that it lists possible plans in order with the percentage certainty that it estimates. I much appreciate that rather than just some wild random guess. Finally it has a pallet where you can tell it to identify either the plant or the bark or the fruit or the flower that happens to show in the photo being able to identify a plant for instance by its bark I think it’s great. I’ve only been using this app for an hour so there might be some nasty‘s in store but so far it’s a no-brainer I’m using this from now on.

Great app!. Love this app! It’s easy to use, FREE and is terrific to identify those plants and flowers you just can’t think what they’re called.

Great Potential, needs polishing. I have been looking for a free plant identification repository and found PlantNet. So far, I find that it works but with the absence of a live help system, makes it difficult to work out how to use it. The lack of orientation change to match a screen is really annoying. I means that for instance using it on an iPad in landscape mode is impossible and one simply gives up. I’m sure with a bit of effort this could be easily fixed. Thanks for putting up Australian and New Zealand collections. You do listen {but not to everything.} I now give you a 4/5 rating. Just one thing to fix and you will deserve 5/5.

Easy to use. I love this app. It’s so easy to use and generally very accurate

This App has never let me down.. I’ve had six or eight plant ID apps and this is still my favourite. It has never let me down whether it’s something that the wind or birds have dropped into my garden, or the flowers in a lovingly created bouquet for my darling. What might have ended up discarded as a weed has found its place in a salad or stir fry. What some might have eaten has been confirmed as a poisonous plant somewhat similar to an edible. Knowing the scientific and common names of particular flowers has allowed me to attach social meaning to a gift of love. It’s a pleasure to be able to share information from, and with, so many others around the world too.

PlantNet. Really useful app. Seems to correctly identify the plant more often than not.

A pleasure to have and use.. To have such a wealth of knowledge right at my fingertips and be able to contribute to the data base is a real privilege.

Amazingly accurate.. Works with amazing accuracy, and works fast also. A very useful app.

Great app!!. I love this app so much. My husband and I were always wondering what the different plants were that we saw on our walks. This app is the answer!

Fast & Accurate. This app is an absolute ‘must’ for hobby gardeners. It has helped solve many a mystery and resolve several disputes! My love of gardening has been deepened along with my knowledge of how to grow and maintain a beautiful and healthy garden. I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you are attempting to plant anything, this app is essential. A huge ‘Thanks You’ to its developers AND its community contributors.

Very good for common trees, particularly European.. Very good and quick on common trees but quite poor for Australian natives, especially rarer species. A quick check for whether a leaf is edible for my goats in a semi suburban West Australian setting. As such very useful.

Best plant identifier app. I am so happy I found this app because I have used many other plant identification apps and each one always has in-app purchases to allow the app to full effect… this app has it all and it’s free. There is sooo much information, you can take pictures from camera and import them from your photo album to identify thousands of plants and also contribute by adding your knowledge as-well :) thanks for making this !

Plant identification app. I love this app, it helps me figure out what pops up in my Vege patch. Also good at fetes to know what you are buying!

Brilliant and free. Love that this app is free when others make you pay. Great for plant lovers

Future. Reliable now and getting better quickly. Flexible, friendly and collegiate. Much more accurate than the "paid” app i use as alternative. Plantsnap

Easy and quite accurate. I find this app does a good job of identifying plants and is enjoyable to use.

Great, accessible app. Really handy to have. I pretty much tell everyone about it.

this rules. this app is so good n fun, wholesome and educational!! It’s well laid out and has great linking assess to other sources etc

Such a great resource. Easy to use, very reliable information

Works brilliantly! In Australia and it has found every plant I put in.. I’ve only just started using the app and it has so far been 100% correct with every plant I have put in. Wow!! I can’t seem to set my home location as Canberra and it keeps defaulting to New Caledonia - whole i wished I lived there I don’t - is it possible to set a home location like Australia? If so that would be awesome. Totally recommend PlantNet - it’s amazing!

Excellent App. Helping me label herbs I have but forgot what they are. Now I feel safe eating them after identifying

Possibly one of the best apps for the budding gardener or botanist. Really love this app, the fact that it is pretty accurate with the results, it’s easy to use and free. So can’t complain here.

Fantastic. Have downloaded other apps but this is by far the best

Thi. Fast, accurate and user friendly

Good app. It’s not accurate every time and maybe my photo isn’t perfect every time

Amazingly accurate!. Am thoroughly enjoying learning about all my varied plants. What a clever accurate website!

No use for Australia. I couldn't find anything like the Aussie native plant I have, not even remotely like it. Kept trying to suggest things that were Nothing Like the photos I had. Deleted it in the finish - if your plant isn't common, then no one knows, like all the other apos.

App. Would be more interesting if members could message each other to confirm information or put in comments.

So useful. I love how easy this app is to use. It’s very helpful and I use it often in my garden. Right now I’m about to find out what a particular plant is so I can determine if it is toxic to cats. My kitten was chewing on it..

Best Plant Identifier I have used. Awesome app. I was referred to this app by a friend and I love it. I have now got several of my friends and acquaintances to download this app and they are astonished on how accurate it is.

Review. Easy access to information, good size data base , maps are helpful too

Very Handy App. It’s accurate as I did every time Quite handy , I would recon it !

Great app. The identifying function is great, it would be good if there was a feature where you could see a map and all the identified plants are on it, so you can go and visit particular plants when your walking.

Best. Plant. App. Ever!. It’s fantastic! Unlike others I’ve used in the past (and I’ve used 6 plant apps so far). This one does NOT have “pay to unlock features” and doesn’t demand for you to sign up. You can use old pictures of plants you’ve taken in the past or use your camera there and then. It has categories so if you’re interested in a particular flower you click flower icon if it leaves then click leaf icon. It helped me and a neighbour of mine when we were clearing the garden PlantNet app has an information centre to tell if it’s a weed or a plant. So we knew what plants to keep and what to get rid of no arguments. It also helped me when I went to plant nursery’s. In pots and small they can be misleading. Good thing about the app other people have posted pictures of the same plant but in their own yard so you can see what it going to be once planted. It had saved me few times from buying an invasive plant that I knew it would of grown out of I control once planted.

Awesome app. Photos and information are on point, app works so well and fast .. Definitely learning a lot in such a small space of time instead of trying to guess any species or mistaking them for another that’s similar. 100% recommended! It’s free👌🏽

Best plant ID tool. I use this so regularly. I have my phone with me all the time. I assist neighbour’s frequently. I am a botanical artist so it is important that I identify plants I am painting 😊 thank you 🙏

Great app. Very easy to use and informative. Not always great on eucalyptus but otherwise very reliable.

Great App just needs refinement. This app is great for identifying plants but I can’t always choose photos from my library.

Very Useful. Terrific !. Simple and Easy to use. Seems very accurate from my experience. Very useful.

Saved my sanity. I’ve been losing my mind trying to ID a mystery weed that popped up next to one of my balcony plants. Books & googling only got me to the subfamily level, and this app generated the correct suggestion within under a second. I freaking love you.

Looks useful. Initial observations are that this App will be useful. Correctly identified an Australian rainforest native from single flower and a potentially invasive environmental weed from single pic of leaves w/ fruits. Seems to have problem with my location - thinks I’m in New Caledonia. At least that’s the nearest Flora Category offered. Perhaps it doesn’t yet have significant database of Australian native plant reports.

Helps put a lot with identification. Great and easy to use!

Great information but no landscape mode. Useless if using an iPad with attached keyboard.. Apple needs to put a warning on the App Store for iPad users with keyboards that the software only operates in portrait mode. It doesn’t mean the app isn’t any good, it just means I won’t have to download and then delete as unsuitable.

Such a great app!. I use it all the time to identify trees, leaves and flowers and it always identifies correctly. A wonderful free database to access and contribute too :) Easy to use as well!

Great tool for plant identification. Has been more accurate than other plant identification apps I have used. It would benefit from more Australian native plants.

Just what I needed. Worked perfectly first time, to identify a fairly rare tree for our area, that self planted in our garden, had been trying to find what it was for a couple of days without success, this did it instantly! Great, very impressive. 👍

It’s a great app!. I’m not usually one for apps but I thoroughly enjoy using PlantNet. It’s very helpful and provides a considerable shortcut in identifying plants. I’m an enthusiastic lifelong gardener and my love of gardening is enhanced by having this app at my fingertips. Hearty thanks to the folks at PlantNet.

Incorrect GPS location. Very frustrating that the app is stating my GPS location is New Caledonia and there is no option to change to where I actually am in Australia. If this feature were rectified I would rate the app far higher as it’s easy to use and good to participate in BUT without accurate GPS and thus plants from my country at least- what point?

Not great for Australia and New Zealand.. The app seems to cover most of the globe’s flora regions however it completely misses Australia and New Zealand. Therefore couldn't identify my Australian native plants. If this could be updated will be a 5 star app.

Not applicable to my flora. I’m in Australia. It doesn’t include my local flora - 24k species excluded! Using the suggested automatic selection of flora by GPS it suggests that the flora of New Caledonia is the most appropriate to me. Great. Thats 3270 species 74% of which are only found on New Caledonia. That will be great when I go there. If you are in: New Zealand, New Guinea, India, China, Southern Africa, Southern South America or basically anywhere outside French territory you will have the same problem. You’re not included and no it doesn’t tell you this before getting you to sign ip to an account. You can use World Flora (presumably the sum of French territories) which includes 35k species - around 8% of described species. I’ll give this a whorl - maybe it will work for cosmopolitan weeds. If not, it’s a dud.

Accurate plant identification. Love this app! Has yet to fail in identifying any plant. Very easy to use. I recommend it to all my friends and they too are amazed by it.

Excellent!. It does not force you to accept a poor ID. It allows you to choose from several options so you can match all features.

Very helpful. Helpful for identifying weeds growing in my new garden - soil brought several invasive species along with it!

Évaluation. J’adore cette application. Toujours juste, souvent même sans beaucoup de précisions fournies. Rapide. Très très utile. Merci!

App. Merci pour votre excellent site très pratique; continuez votre beau travail 👍.

Best plant app out there. Best Plant-Identifier app on the app store, both paid and otherwise! Suggests multiple plant IDs instead of forcing an incorrect one, allows you to identify both the flowers of the plant and leaves- very thorough. It would be awesome if you guys expanded the app to allow people to comment on other people’s pictures, to help them identify their plants. And maybe allow for users to “album” plant pictures and create wish lists of sorts? Definitely has the potential to become *the* plant app. Incredible application. Surprisingly accurate as well.

Très précis. Résultat rapide

I’m a robot… apparently. I just downloaded the app. Filled all my account info and it says I’m a robot. I dare say I am not. Guess this app is not for me! PictureThis it is!!

Extremely helpful. This App is so easy to use and very helpful in identifying plants - ecxellent!

Excellent. J’aime beaucoup, très pratique

Appli Plantnet. Cette appli est vraiment super! Merci!

Recommended. Great app !!!!! Free + works very well!

WoW. Très utile pour en savoir + sur la nature qui nous entoure, où que vous soyez. J’adore

I love this app.. This app is simply wonderful!

Impressive. This app far exceeds my expectations. It’s helped me to identify many plants, shrubs and trees in the garden of my new home. Highly recommended!

Formidable!. Excellente application!

Life changing. This app is so awesome! I used to have to take photos and then upload to google image search (a time consuming process) and now this FREE app does everything instantly! So happy to have discovered this app! Recommending to all my friends :)

So good. Free, accurate identification

Great app. Very useful Amazing App! - thanks to so many great users contributing information

Great Site. I can always find the plant I’m looking for…

Perfect!. Everything you could want in a free app. Rarely gets it wrong.

Best plant app. Have tried others PlantNet easiest to use and most accurate

Really good. Usually fairly accurate

PlantNet. Excellent. Gives species without getting into varieties and trade names

Confusing to use. Hate it

Flower ID. Easy to use, contributes to scientific knowledge of range. Excellent app

Amazing. So fun for me and my kids. We wander around trails and try to discover the plantlife around us.

Intéressant. C’est bien mais parfois les résultats sont douteux. Pas convaincu que toutes les photos associées à la plante ont été identifiées correctement.

Can’t report an issue. So I can’t seem to report this issue because I am using the free version but every time I take a photo within the app the last few days I get network error and it can’t connect. I have tried everything like turning off my phone, making sure I am connects and I still can’t use this app. Not interested in searching for a tree or what have you while I’m out on trails. It use to work before, what changed and when will there be an update? Until then it’s pretty lousy for what I needed it for

Plant identification. A very valuable app for the beginner horticulturalist

Location and setup big pain!. I can’t get past the location setting, it’s really annoying. Brings me to iPhone settings with no direction or instructions….useless

Excellent for plant I.D.s. Very useful both for garden & hiking!

Useful and easy to use!. This app really helps figure out what’s actually growing in my natural garden. It’s fun and super easy to use. Would recommend!

Great app!. Seems to work very well.

Great app, easy to use. Found the app very easy to use and it’s identifies all plants that I upload. It would be cool to add a feature that I can mark the location (use the gps coordinates of the photo) of the plant that I found and uploaded so I can map all the plants on a map to view each location or if I want to find it again.

Works very well. Certainally deserves a donation

Amazing App. I use this a lot around the yard. Top notch identifier.

Love this app. Been looking for hours to find the name of a plant. After giving up saw ad for plant apps, forgot to check apps. My hours of search was just a couple clicks away!

Plant Net. This plant identifier application is a great scientific project internationally that contributes to science, agricultural pursuits, library services employment opportunities, as well as, supporting government departments internationally to control invasive or poisonous species that can be toxic to farm animals , citizens or pets. This global science project involves a depth of vision not readily transparent to the user. I am very impressed with your project. As well new medicinal medications or genetic plant engineering may flourish. Nice work!

The best plant identification app, bar none. Run by an educational foundation as a service to humankind, so no obnoxious ads or paywalls. Absolutely amazing, it’s gotten me addicted to identifying and learning about plants around me. Much love

Thistle Bull. App very informative

Plantnet. This app isn’t as good as we expect it is. It only tells you the name but doesn't give you any information about the plants. As a student I expected that this app gave me some information aboutplants and tell me more about it for a research that we need to do in class. I'm very disappointed about it, I thought that this app would have what I expect to but it doesn't matter anymore. Great evening everyone

PlantNet. The app is excellent!!

Plant identifier. When I first tried it, tried it on Peach tree andit identified as something else.. lemon something. I knew it was a Peach tree

Uses location data from photos you upload. This app uses location data from any photos you upload without asking or showing any kind of warning.

So great in Canada!. Works every time! I take a picture of the flower and then confirm by a picture of the leafs. I’m in Canada and I can say it works very well here.

Cool and useful!. It works.

Pretends you can use without GPS but you can’t. You can choose not to use GPS, but any other choice and won’t let you move past that page. It’s lying about that being optional. Deleted immediately because that’s dumb.

Helpful. This app Helps recognize the plants I don’t know and I am so grateful for it. I still have to learn more of what it can do other than telling me the names and try to get use of other feature…very helpful app. 5 stars all the way around👍

Great app. The accuracy is nearly flawless. The interface is a bit difficult but the accuracy way makes up for it. The app has made my job doable. The last app I used got me in some trouble with my boss... picture that, just change the article

True blue on your greens. It truly is free and doesn’t make you do some lame subscription. I love the community based botany—learning is the goal for me and it is just such a neat shared database. In-app purchases are available too, but I love that it doesn’t force you to sign up for anything if you just want to learn what’s growing around you.

An instant success!. This is the perfect tool to have when I visit our local tree and shrub center. After taking the photo of a plant/tree, shrub the result come back quickly with the information you need to see if it's a good fit for your project. I simply love it!

Pl@ntnet. Having had moved from northern Utah to Monterey California a few months ago I have been very frustrated trying to learn the names of all of these plants and trees that are new to me being able to click and get an answer instantly is just fabulous and they’ve been spot on correct every time plus it’s free can’t go wrong

Great app. I’ve downloaded every plant app there is on IOS and a lot just isn’t any good or they cost alot and I’m not talking a few dollars. But this app is free and it’s been 100% correct with identifying plants My plants! Love it! Thanks for making a helpful, easy to navigate, informative app that is free!!

Learning about all my plant specimens. This app has been very helpful to me. Pretty easy to use. I’m a semi-novice. Sometimes it is hard to narrow the id down to specific plant variety, but species is probably close enough for most It’s great for id’ing desirable plants and in identifying my huge unimproved lot full of annual/perennial weeds.

Better than the rest seriously. It’s free and it’s very accurate what else could anyone want? It saves your pictures too so you can go back and relook if you want to and you can both take pics from the app and from your gallery so no rush just great app

100% Correct and Easy to Navigate. I wish this app was listed higher because it works! Amazingly! I loaded 6 different pictures off my camera roll and it identified all of them correctly. It identifies by leaf, bark, plant, fruit, or flower. I did a combination of them and it was correct every time, even with scientific name listed.

An app that works. I don’t do reviews but for this app I have to. This is the only app that 100 percent works. Take a picture, pick what the picture is of and it tells you what the plant/tree is plus a wealth of information on the result. Amazing

Found plants other apps couldn’t. When it is stumped, offers a world gallery to find plants in other countries. Was able to finally identify curious plants I am caring for-when two other apps couldn’t identify them!

Best ever!. I far the best plant identification app out there! I tried many others and either you had to pay to use them, or they couldn’t find the plants at all! This app hasn’t failed me yet! Thanks developers!

Outstanding. This is one of the easiest apps I’ve ever found. If I find a flower or a leaf that I want to know the name of it’s instantaneous. Gives me a choice of pictures to compare what I’m looking at to make sure I’m getting it right. Absolutely outstanding

This is a wonderful app, not intuitive but helpful!. Look, this is a wonderful app because someone responded quickly but I don’t know how to thank him or her and loading the picture/adding a description was vexing! However, I refuse to be Eeyore and I want to commend the people who put this together! Thank you!

Legit. I went through 3 other “free” apps before I found this one. It’s actually free while the others try to manipulate stupid people to con them out of money. Works great and they even have a wiki link for the results.

Spot on almost every time. Love this app! Being able to ID things I am curious about, or have always seen but didn’t know what it was called, has been wonderful! Makes my grandkids think I am brilliant! A fantastic resource for teachers, herbalists, gardeners, AND grandmas! This app is my go to.

By Far the Best Plant ID App I Have Used. This app has been truly amazing to use. The vast amount of data that it pulls from is easily narrowed down, but not too much. The programming that matches leaf shapes and details is incredible in its ability to identify almost any plant by one leaf. Love this app!

Free and easy to use. Gives the probability of species that this app identifies the picture of what it could be. So easy to just snap a picture and it loads up a list based on the category you’re trying to look into (flower, leaf, fruit etc.)

Excellent app for plant lovers. I have used various apps for plant identification. This app is easy to use and seems very accurate. They use various ways to ID a specimen. That contributes to greater accuracy. I hope to enjoy this app for years to come. Can’t wait to identify all my trees and plants at my home.

Good!. I like the app, it offers possible identification of plants based on photos. I wish there were enhancements: a way to limit geographical scope, for instance, a way to copy the scientific name so I can look up more info, and best would be links to more info about the possible ID, do I could quickly check growing areas, etc.

Speedy & Correct. I just created an account a couple days ago, & already I’m using this app several times a day - it’s simple to use, very fast, & is factual & correct. I also like the different options given & percentages of correctness. Right on! Keep doing what you’re doing PlantNet😁

Most useful botanical identification app I’ve used. The results are often as accurate as asking a group of botanists. Well, actually, that’s kind of like how this app actually works. Results seem to be more accurate year by year as the back end learns more.

iPhone works OK - MacOS is junk. The app is 'reasonably' straightforward on iOS, but I foiund it extremely buggy on MacOS - quite unusable. Couldn't even get logged in with the credentials I created when I set up my account on iOS. The error message was meaningless, and no suggestions offered. I advise skipping the MacOS version entirely - it's simpy a source of frustration.

Works great. Easy to use.. This app is very simple to use. I have been looking for something like this for a long time. I have a beautiful flowering tree that no one could ID for me. Well this app did it. Great thing is that you can look at different aspects of the plant (flower, leaf, bark) to get further confirmation.

Great for learning your local trees. This app is so helpful! I’ve been collecting leaves and documenting them to try to learn what’s what in my local woods, and this makes is so much easier than just googling. Seeing other people’s photos for comparison is great. Must have for the outdoorsy.

Plant ID. I’m a recent user. I appreciate the option of searching for flowers, bark, leaves or fruit. That can be very efficient and especially useful. Maybe two categories could be combined with the optimum overlap being selected. I miss a description of the plant, origins, special properties, distribution, etc. I really like the probabilities of a hit with the runner-ups.

Easy to use and accurate. However: It could be a little biased because it is trained on user input so if people mistake one flower for another then the app is more likely to perpetuate that error. For example maybe 5% of the images of common orchid species are misidentified.

Works great. I love this app because it identifies so many plants quickly and correctly. You can also get more information about the plants rather than just their names. This is the one to have if you’re trying to find the name of a plant

Doesn’t know most plants. When I downloaded this app I thought it was gonna be the best FREE app! But it turned out to not know the plant I downloaded it for! Now I have no clue how to take care of my dracaena golden heart! I was very disappointed in my search but maybe your plants will be there! I do recommend!

So useful!. I love this app. Walking through my neighborhood is so much more fun knowing the names of the plants around. The app is easy to use and since so many people contribute, there are lots of photos to compare my photo with to make sure the identification is correct.

Requires location. App opens with requesting your location, but allows you to skip this and choose from map locations instead. Then it goes to asking you to create an account, then asks again for you to turn on your location. At that point, there’s no way that I can find to get around this. It won’t allow me to proceed without turning on my location. Sorry, no app EVER needs an active link to my current location - especially not to identify a houseplant. Pass.

Greatest app ever. I use this app at home & when we are camping. I love flowers but am an idiot when it comes to identifying them. That’s no longer a problem with this app. It has identified every flower I have put in. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves flowers & wants to know what they are.

Love this App. I really like being able to identify plants in my yard that I didn’t know what they were. It is so fun taking a picture and having the App identity it! It has been right with every plant or shrub I have put in so far!

Fabulous. This is the app to have for all the volunteer plants in the yard and on walks in nature. It gives lots of options and photos. My one criticism is there is not any info on the plants other than the ID. But, you can get that from google after you find out what it is.

Free. I use the app to identify plant species since I am new to this. App is super easy to use. My only complaint is the majority of the time I receive a message that it is unidentifiable which becomes very frustrating especially when you send good pictures. Hopefully as time goes by and more people submit pictures unidentified plants will be a issue in the past.

Impressive. Pretty impressed so far. Several apps out there, but this seems very accurate, fast and easy to use. Also, most have costly subscriptions which is a huge turnoff if using only occasionally to identify weeds or other plants in your home garden.

Awesome! Love it for my walks.. I’m new to studying plants and really love how easy this is to use. A quick picture and the app helps you identify all types of plants. I love the fact that it provides examples and probabilities for alternatives when it is not clear what the ID might be. Can’t think of a better resource.

Great plant ID app. This app is easy to use and is accurate. Lots of information. No ads. I can hike in the mountains take a picture of a plant or a tree come home and identify it. With no ads and ease of operation and accuracy being what it is this is a dream come true app. Just waiting for the updated version to include ads or subscription fee.

Informative & Easy. Love this App, information is very easy to access. Works best if you have some knowledge regarding your search, otherwise may be hard to or more challenging to identify your search.

Great way to start. I’m very impressed with this app because it will save me tons of time while I learn to identify different plants quickly rather than dredging through hundreds of pics and many articles. Thank you

Fun and informative. Great fun to browse and validate plant species you know. Makes you pay closer attention to the plants around you to see if there’s something you can add. Pretty good at identifying the plants for you but be sure to look at leaves and stems closely to get it in the right buckets.

Absolutely incredible!. I work with a land conservatory group and I can’t tell you how amazing this app has been. We will be out in the field, take a quick picture, and within a minute have 10 different possibility’s of what it is! To give even more credit, it’s usually the first suggestion!

Awesome!. Best tree & plant identification app AND it’s free 😏 I paid for a similar app subscription in the past but I just don’t use this kind of app enough to keep up a subscription. I love that i can get all the same stuff that I used to overpay for (maybe used it twice in the 3-4 months that I was subscribed) in this app for free.

A little slow but otherwise having lots of fun with it!. It wouldn’t bother me about being slow except that some plants are in a spot where you don’t want to crouch and wait for the pictures to load to compare with the specimen.

Fantastic free plant identification app!. This is a fantastic free plant identification app, and also a great citizen science project. It works very well for me and seems to reliably provide very useful information. Before buying any of the various commercial apps, check this one out. I found it super helpful, and I couldn’t refrain from contributing my own observations.

Next best thing to a botanist. I find this app very helpful when identifying "interesting plants," aka "weeds" in the wilder parts of our property. Cross-referenced against the Montana Field Guide, it seems to agree roughly 80% of the time. For a novice like myself, 80% success rate isn’t bad. Doubtless someone with experience would do much better.

Great app!. This app is the first to actually correctly identify plants! Others I've deleted within days because they were useless. This one has only had roble with one plant but at least it didn't falsely identify it. This is the best!

I liked it...when it worked. I’ve been using this app since last summer (2019) and I really liked it back when it worked for me. I’ve been trying to use it unsuccessfully for at least two months now, the app will NOT open. It starts to open and then just kicks me back to my phone’s home screen. I have emailed the app designers for help, no answer. At this point the app is useless to me. Too bad.

Love this app. As a plant parent you need to know the mame of your plants even when you’re outside curious about some plant or tree names this app came to help people like me with that. Thanks to this app I know a lot of my plants name, the scientific and common name, plus is free, no add no b***t…. Thanks again guy…

Dr.. I have had to waste time because you offer poor directions for use and no help on your web site. But love all the information you give us Ps can you find a way to notify if it is time to update rather then just give a error message? Thanks
