Stripes does a good job with story selection. While objective journalism is hard to find these days, I find the news articles generally unbiased and without the reporters' opinions coloring their reporting of facts. Opinion pieces are clearly labeled as such.
I'm happy to have a source for facts about our military and unbiased stories.
Great keeping up with military activities. Ease of site usage. Complete military news happenings. Great site layout.
Iv had this App for a few years now. The only problem iv ever had was having to re-download it once in a while duh to technical difficulties. But this app is by far the best.
I've enjoyed reading Stars and Stripes for years as a free app (reminds me of my military days), however yesterday it stopped working and now today it's become a subscription service. That would not be to large of a pill to swallow but for the problem that most of the stories and articles are reprinted from AP. Using the AP app, I am still able to read on line content for free. Why would I pay for reprinted content? I won't. That and the fact that Stars and Stripes has turned into another liberal mouthpiece bent on social reengineering the military. I can read all of that drivel also free on the web. Good bye Stars and Stripes. I stand corrected...I located my payment for the Stars and Strips App. My complaint, which stills stands, is that even after paying for the app, I am now advised that I must pay for a 40.00 per year subscription to continue using my paid for app.
I have followed and read Stars and Stripes when available since 1963 when Stationed at Etain AFB France (My first Overseas Assignment (30 Years AD). It is an excellent Paper although I do not always agree with some Articles. Keep up the good work keeping us informed.
The upgraded version is nice except for two factors. 1) it lost all my payment/subscription information so I had to pay the $40 again even though I still had a half year left. 2) if I'm paying for the subscription, then get rid of the advertisements.
I really enjoy reading the Stars and Stripes! It's great to support such a wonderful news organization.
Even though i don't walk in the valley of shadow of active duty any more, or visit those famous beer halls of good German beer either, I still miss the S&S! You're latest story on the untimely death of three Soldiers from Ft. Campbell, KY was excellent! Well done, And- Kudos to the writer! Bill Sutherland
I subscribed a year ago but was unable to receive full access even after getting a special 'code'. A year later they went ahead and renewed my subscription without permission and without responding to my requests for either a refund or actually getting access to anything but the free front page. I'm still waiting but I'm afraid the money collectors give a darn and the paper itself is unreachable. Beware.
Articles not updated often. Apple news app free and much more up to date. Save your $39.00 not worth it.
I was all set to use in-app purchases to subscribe to S&S. But since that isn't an option obviously I can't do that. And then after reading the reviews here of dissatisfied customers who were screwed over by the other subscription options I am not inclined to go through any other parties to subscribe. Star and Stripes, you have good reporters but whoever you are relying on to sell us the news is stabbing you in the back by disallowing the simplest way to consume it.
As has been mentioned, I too took out a subscription last year through the App Store but am unable to get my remaining issues. What gives? Really poor business practices. Be wary of dealings with this app.
Downloaded S&S on iPad, read my 7 free articles. Refers me to homepage to subscribe, but cannot subscribe as there are no links to subscribe. App deleted.
After a few months of a subscription for which I paid a years subscription in advance the Stars and Stripes management has informed me they do not like Apple iTunes and require me to sign up via Press-Plus. I don't want another Press-Plus payment system and feel Stars and Stripes is not keeping their end of the bargain.
This application functions poorly and this alleged newspaper is not worth the money. You have lost a customer.
I'm retired Army and enjoyed the paper stars and striped. I decided to try this app. Because of my work schedule I found that I was not using the app. I went to try to cancel my subscription back in January 2014 the option was not available in the app to cancel. I emailed the iTunes Store support and Stars and Stripes and was told it was fixed but today 4 Feb 2015 I just found out I'm about to be charged again for the second time!!!
Great military news reporting well rounded with timely information
I have enjoyed the improvements to the tablet edition. I,specifically, enjoy reading the Pacific section of the paper. More news.
The tablet edition will not open in my iPad 3 Jack
