Can not cancel without calling / crazy ‘click bait’ ads. Hard to trust a news organization that uses tactics to make it hard to cancel or change your subscription. Really damages the trust I have in them. Can not cancel online or via app. WSJ does the same shady stuff. I assumed inquirer was better than them. The ads are really intrusive. I honestly think they are as bad as pop ups from click bait websites. Makes it very hard to read some articles. Again, lost so much trust in my local paper due to thee shady practices. Other real newspapers do not do this.

Sneaky Ads. Ads within the articles are extremely sensitive and when the reader attempts to scroll through, they accidentally open the adds. In addition, many of the adds are sized in a way that you cannot scroll past without touching them. Super distracting to be reading an article and have to jump back and forth from an ad that “accidentally” opens in a browser. Seems like they’ve done this on purpose to bolster their click numbers.

Won’t load or upgrade. The App Store will not upgrade and the site does not load. This problem has happened previously. Any advice. I love this site because it provides the best source of objective news and sports reporting for the Philly area. Even if since 2016 it’s comment sections are targeted by Russian bots because it is a reliable media source in a swing state.

Love the day pass concept. Remember when you would just walk up to a news stand and buy a paper for a buck? Then you could read it and move on with life and not have to commit to a billing recurrence just to feel informed for one day? Let us buy day passes all the time! It actually feels like the correct way to sell news.

Bit of a Mess. I had a previous subscription from kindle. It was simple to use. I could just read the paper from beginning to end. Now I feel like I’m endlessly having to arrow back to go forward. Many articles are repeated for several days and the amount of advertising is ridiculous. I will give it a few more weeks but will probably cancel, which is a shame because I love the Inquirer.

Personalization finally gets the app to where it should be. This app was buggy and pretty bare bones 12 - 18 months ago. It’s been gradually improving, and with the personalization now available for subscribers, it’s finally close to where it should be. Keep up the good work! And if you use the app, get a digital subscription to support local journalism.

Missing sections & poor navigation. This app is absolutely no substitute for a subscription to the Inquirer. I expected that since I’m a subscriber I’d get the same material I get from the paper. But no - no comics, no obits, no Carolyn... not sure what else is missing. I got frustrated and gave up. Navigation is terrible - most news apps will at least give you a handy menu or method to go from section to section. Haven’t found that yet. And just for the record Dear Abby is a terrible substitute for Carolyn.

Old articles. Many of the articles are old. Some are from days ago. Not all the latest articles are posted on line. I find it very frustrating. It seems like it is getting worse.

Journalism quality, stale stories. Your writers seem to confuse editorials with straight news. Here’s a quick lesson: except for the editorial page, your writers should refrain from injecting their opinions, using subjective, activist language, and maintaining the delusions that they are the story. PLEASE, just go back to answering the five main questions about the event in the first paragraph and fill in the details. Tell me more about what’s going on on city council, the mayor’s office, taxes, police, urban development. And don’t make your headlines incendiary, either. I can make my own mind about the news and its effect on my life. Also the stories on the app are recycled day-to-day? You seriously can’t update them daily? Your desk is so bereft of noticing real city news that it can’t provide new stories at least twice a day?

Balance. I always have appreciated the Inquirer and the writers who work hard researching & writing good articles. My only suggestion would be a more balanced approach to writing about sex abuse scandals which seem to be rampant across many pubic & private organizations, and religious institutions. However, Inquirer only seems to focus on the Catholic Church with front page coverage. Please also write articles on the millions of people the Catholic church assists with life saving care, food & support. Thank you!

Does not handle certain wifi connections well. There are situations where I like to download a copy of the day’s paper and read it later in the day, perhaps in a setting where I don’t have a strong internet connection like an airplane or train. This app works well only if you only use it over a good, non captive portal ( hotel, airport, Starbucks ) type wifi connection. In other instances, it loads with no information showing because the app thinks you have wifi when you really don’t. I should ALWAYS be able to access ANY of my downloaded content when no internet connection is available.

Evening with paper. Have to say I never knew how much I missed reading the paper. Every night it’s been a pleasure reading. I truly see the difference in the writing styles. Keep up the great work.

Best Newspaper App on iPad. Disregard the negative reviews over the bias behind this paper; That is the equivalent of complaining about the lack of steak options at a vegan restaurant. As a engineer in the software industry, I can say that the team at the Inquirer has far exceeded expectation for what a news app should be and set the bar for what is to be expected for competition. The user experience of the application is superb and the "newspaper" view provides a seamless paperless reading experience for those who want to experience the newspaper without contributing to needless waste. While other applications from reporting outlets larger than the Inquirer adopt the lazy approach of providing an experience which mirrors that of reading the news on their website, the Inquirer has appropriately invested resources into providing an application which allows users to experience that day's newspaper digitally.

Beware of the intrusive pop up ads.. It’s becoming more frequent that intrusive pop up ads are taking over the screen with no way to close them. First it was a google related “you’ve won” ad and now it’s an interactive ad for a game. Twice for me, the ads appearing on this app redirected me to download them from the App Store without me touching the screen. I’ve deleted this app in favor of the mobile site. It’s saddening because the app has otherwise been greatly improved recently.

Severe political bias. I have been a subscriber to “Inky” for over 50 years. They have always been politically biased toward Democrats both specifically and generally. Their allowance of hatred against President Trump in the Guise of “opinion pieces” in hitting below the line. And, they are getting worse. The organization of the publishing structure as a non-profit has undermined any hint of fairness and the non-profit status should be revoked. They really don’t serve a broad base. Most people I talk with have already shed their subscription and/or have a low opinion of the inquirer as a balanced news provider or as having a fair opinion section.

Too expensive but nice.. You’ve improved the software and it’s up to par....but it’s too expensive. No video but I don’t miss it....or need it. I will subscribe when I can fit it in my budget.

Needs email and browser integration. Fine reporting and writing. When i get my inquirer news alerts it should be simple to offer me the ability to open this app and load the story. No login required of me. Every. Other. Paid. Service Does It. Instead, with the inquirer news service i have to go through Safari (iphone 12) where I should be quickly logged in but im not. i have to log in each and every time. Other paid services give you a drop bar in Safari offering to open their own app. Not Philly News. Needs to become a 2020 integrated platform and app. Fine reporting and writing.

Ok, but needs some work. 1) Why are Inquirer links to another Inquirer article jumping out to a browser? This is frustrating and would be good to fix. 2) I appreciate that many images within an article can be zoomed. It would be nice to do the same for the headline image at the top of the article, which doesn’t seem to be able to be zoomed 3) Support dark mode, where the background of all pages could be dark 4) Configurability for articles I want to see versus not; for example I may not be interested in row after row of high school sports results.

Don’t fool yourself. This app is all about getting the information on the user and the spam. Probably one of the most aggressive sniffer and snoopers around. This app is one step away from a virus. These people are serious about the user’s information and that’s after paying for a subscription. My advise- delete the app, use the online version through your browser, and make sure the Adblock / privacy protection is in place.

My Daily News. The iPad and smart phone app has allowed for the convenience of accessing the local news at a fingers touch. I can always count on it to be there.

Frustrating pop up ads. As a paying subscriber I’d expect to be able to read an article without an ad popping up and blocking the text, sometimes even opening up a different app, without my ever having clicked on it. As I scroll past ads they frequently open up and block the article. It’s a very poor user experience after paying to access the paper.

Nuisance ads. I realize that advertising is important to journalism and fully agree with it. Some of the ads, especially today are extremely irritating because you can’t clear them. There should be some level of minimum requirements for ad placement. Again, ads are important. They serve a purpose, and they belong on the app. But there should be an easy way to exit an ad. If you don’t want to read it as opposed to the nuisance side that has a minimal Xbox next to the volume icon, and it fills the whole page and can’t be bypassed

Comments. I find the headlines confusing. You have a headline on the opening page, suggesting that if you click on it, you will find the article to read. But instead it takes you to a series of various related articles. So you have to go searching for the article that was first featured. Makes the app difficult.

Slow and jumpy. App trying to do way too much, and serving up ads slows down scrolling and reading stories everyday. So frustrating at times I just close out. Too bad since content pretty good. Recently added a new feature - app slows to serve up ads, then freezes and shuts down. Nice.

Fine journalism; horrible app. The functionality and user interface for a news app are not complicated or mysterious. But this app is terrible to use: basic navigation is awkward, standard iOS interactions aren’t used consistently, scrolling is jerky, typography is horrendous, and article copy sometimes doesn’t even load. The Inqui is still the go-to Philadelphia news source, but this app is an embarrassment.

Greatly Improved. Over the past few updates, the user interface has improved makedly. The developer listens to feedback, and it shows. There was a serious problem on iPad right after the last update, which now seems to have been caused by rogue ads. Ad curation is the greatest weakness. Once in a while, an ad is an obvious fraud, but such junk is pulled quickly upon reprting.

Lack of Customer Care. The main reason I subscribe is so that I can print the daily puzzles for my wife using the app. Unfortunately, the app does no longer allow me to print the crossword puzzle in a satisfactory fashion. I’ve contacted The Inquirer three days in a row through their email link on the app without a response. Looks like they’ll be losing one more customer very shortly.

Keeping up to date. The Inquirer app is a great way for me to keep up to date across all topics, both regionally, nationally, and internationally. It is very well written and presented.

App suddenly closes repeatedly. The Inquirer app has had all kinds of issues over the years but, with one exception, is much better than it used to be. But at least once every day while reading the digital Inquirer, the add just suddenly closes and I have to re-open it (and it reopens at the first page rather than my prior location). This happens at least once every day and still happens after I uninstalled and reinstalled the app.

Review. Look forward to have a newspaper when I get up I think it is important to know what is happening where I live it is sad delivery is infrequent my news paper gets stolen once or twice weekly shows how others also want it 709 spruce

5 Stars Just for Using App Store Subscriptions. If nothing else, I would give this app 5 stars for letting me subscribe (and unsubscribe) to the Inquirer through the App Store, which means I don’t have to call and fight with a retention specialist if I ever want to cancel. Fortunately, the app itself is fantastic to use. Performs well on iPhone and iPad, and has a great “full newspaper” view that lets you easily find articles you want to read and tap into them for a full page read.

Like the articles. I love the articles for the most part. It’s great to me to read and feel connected. Sometimes there’s a liberal spin especially with regards to the pro-life movement versus the pro-abortive debate. But otherwise it’s good to read especially the sports: pro teams, nova, high school,etc

Essential!. A must have to keep up with Inquirer coverage! The updates are timely and there is still the option to read the Inquirer of school with the paper facsimile- perfect!

An Inquirer Family. We adore the Inquirer. Whether in Philadelphia or Cape May. Friends, neighbors and family read the Inquirer and discuss content. Part of our lives, as youngsters and seniors, and the our next generations that respect local and informed journalism. Thank you.

Hard to navigate. Trying to read the newspaper online is challenging. You start reading in the newspaper format and scrolling through pages. Suddenly you can’t scroll and have to advance the page with a click in the upper right corner. Then suddenly the newspaper format changes and there is no obvious way to switch back.

Local news. At a time when I am overwhelmed with national news, and am socially distancing at home, I rely on the Inquirer to keep aware of what is happening locally. Thank you

Proud of our local paper. I’m so proud of the strides the Inquirer has made over the last year. Continuing their great reporting on important local issues is obviously essential but finally having a more streamlined app to read the news on the go is almost better. Keep up the good work!

This once great newspaper is nothing like it used to be.. The percentage of articles appearing in the Inquirer seem to be about social issues, race, gender or immigration. I don't read this media source for articles about social engineering. News, politics, sports etc. I’m canceling my subscription like so many of my friends. The anti law enforcement bias/misrepresentation is appalling. It’s no longer the paper that I grew up with.

Too liberal and biased. The Inquire loses money because it is a liberal, biased news organization. Left wing liberal nuts may appreciate the progressive non journalistic views but the Inquire must realize that these nut jobs don’t buy or read the news. Even the Inquire sports writers add their liberal viewpoints to sports. What ever happened to just writing the news? What ever happened to true and honest investigator journalist? And the Inquire cannot figure out why they lose money and readership? Simple question- why does Fox News have the highest number of viewers, at times higher than their competition combined? If a Main stream media outlet follows Fox’s footprint they too would be the leader in viewership or readership. Left wing liberals do not have an understanding of reality.

Got my card number & charged an inactive account. Update 2: randomly they decided to charge my card and I don’t know how they got my card number. It also says “manually keyed”. I will be filing a dispute with my bank. I deleted their app long ago because it is glitchy and now they have stolen my money. Update: still haven’t made the app stable. In addition, I wanted to cancel my subscription but then they emailed me and told me that memberships can only be cancelled by a phone call. Uh, what? So I can sign up online but you don’t want to let me cancel online? What are you? A gym? I don’t believe that it’s right when companies do this. I think it’s a little shady. Luckily I used PayPal and have cancelled the billing agreement so I won’t be charged again. I thought “hey, why not support local journalism” except the only problem is that most of the time I get a spinning circle that takes forever to finish spinning. It almost feels like the Philadelphia Inquirer is stuck in the 90’s/00’s. I shouldn’t have to wait so long to read a notification you sent me or just switch to another article from within the app itself. Definitely cancelling my subscription.

Great news, but the app never loads it. I’d love to be happy with the inquirer, I like the news enough that I started paying for it. But the app literally never loads a story for me. If I click on any notification, the app takes me to the story, loads the title and image, but never loads the article. Yes, every breaking news notification is broken, every time.

Latest update freezes on ads. Scrolling freezes on every ad...very annoying since I pay for the subscription

What Happened?. I have been using an older app when suddenly it stopped working. Decided to delete and reload. Unfortunately I am faced with a new app, there is only one to choose from. It is horrible, first I had to pick topics and now I must scroll aimlessly looking for articles and sections. What happened to my digital replica edition, there was no warning, no explanation. This may be the thing that finally kills my subscription after 35+ years.

Nice app, but could be better. I log in every day for my local news and find the site very informative. My only complaint is that my page is loaded with local (high school sports) that are of no interest to me.

Sports. That Pompey keeps pumping out. He’s seems to have the inside info. He’s doesn’t always say what I want to hear. But he keeps it real. He’s not a homer he gives objective reports. I wish he could give Boxscore after the games. Seems your paper has stopped that.

Bad ad placement. I’ve had problems with missing sentences or photos in past articles too, but today I couldn’t even do the first question of the news quiz because a moving ad is perpetually in the way. Please hire some more UX experts who can actually QC the app.

Sufficient app for Inquirer. I can’t allow notifications. App works reasonably well. Would like the morning newsletter (and others) as a notification and links from Twitter, email, etc to open in app. Works reasonably well though for reading new articles. No issues logging in with my account. Long term I hope they learn to use the app better for big, significant pieces. Would be nice to follow specific authors as well.

My favorite. Growing in Delaware County and following all Philadelphia sports for the last fifty years will tell something about my passion for sports. Living in Berks County and having access to Philadelphia sports news allows me to keep up with current events. Whether it be scores, draft news, spring training I enjoy it all. Go Philadelphia sports teams.

Good paper. Bad app.. The Inquirer is an important regional paper that does high quality investigative reporting. Unfortunately the app is really poor. Much of the time the pages won’t load or will load extremely slowly such that I don’t get to read the paper. The other two newspapers to which I subscribe very rarely have such problems. They need to fix this.

Same old same old.. Your paper/app displays the same stories over and over for days at a time. Your story writers and columnist are very far to the left and tend to make a story to display a certain view. Not a NEWS story. Just tell me what has and is happening around me. Your paper is so 1 sided it’s sad.

Philly. You need more national news and less high school sports. I used to read the digital edition of your whole newspaper when away from home, right down to the comics and puzzles. Your present format is better than nothing, but not much

iPad use. Difficult to read on iPad. Have to read comics one at a time for example. Where do you people get your ideas for so called improvements? I,m done with your unfriendly updates. You even make it difficult to send a comment.

Timely And relevant. Your team is doing a great job, delivering timely unbiased news instantly! Your in tune with the people of Philadelphia, your in depth reporting should be appreciated by all of Philadelphians. Keep up the good work.

Crossword Puzzle. Would like to be able to print Crossword Puzzles???? Can this be done?? Please help or answer

NJ. I have been living in Central Jersey for 30 years. I was born and bred in Philly. This always keeps me in touch with pulse every day.

Inquirer newspaper. I can not express how happy I am that the paper is on line. They cover very succinctly the sports stories I am interested in. I try not to miss their stories. They are clear and concise, very readable, thank you. Frank

Can’t cancel. Despite the “cancel anytime” statement on the subscription site, when I called to cancel, they said they would follow up with an email and never did. You can only cancel by calling and there is no follow up, so I am stuck spending money I don’t want to.

Deep Link. Why can’t I deep link into the app from inquirer articles posted in other apps/websites? Seems like a huge gap and really drops my usage of the platform.

Articles don’t load. All the time I click on an article and only the advertisement loads and not the text of the article. I think have to go to my web browser to read. Happens all the time. I’d say 1 in 4 articles

Sports Coverage. I greatly appreciate your excellent sports coverage spanning high school, college and university along with professional and Olympic sports.

The app is horrible. It says you can click on an article on the digital paper subscription and then continue from on article to the nest. But It sends you to different articles(similar but different) and you can't change text size

Website limited clicks before required to pay. The actual website requires payment. Not worth it. Other options available. Google search the article name and readi it some where else that doesn’t charge.

Not loving new version. Used to love this app for local Philly news. Now I will see 5 versions of one story, and sports! I will often see major Philly stories on a national app before Philly? And no more Obits? It feels like the app is a second thought...please edit!

Great, well balanced news. As a former Philadelphian living in Cincinnati, this app keeps me apprised of Philly news. I particularly enjoy the sports news coverage. Thank you for a great job. Well done.

Brings my hometown to my new town. Though I moved to philly in 1990, I loved the city. Reading the Inquirer connects me not to all that I loved. I know there’s much hardship now there as there us everywhere.

New app & timely news. The new Inquirer is much easier to operate & navigate. The news articles are timely and very well written. I love it!

You would think they would have a better app. Lame app- craps out all the time, and so many “advertorials” that appear to be articles. Second rate for such a respected newspaper.

Font change is terrible. The new serif font is very difficult to read. Would love it if you changed back!

Love the Inquirer app. Excellent app that is consistently accessible. User friendly design and my go-to app for Philly area news.

Poor performance app. This is not a review on the merits of the articles in the app, this is a review of the app itself. The app often freezes and force quits. It’s frustrating. I would simply suggest updating the app and software so this problem does not continue.

Not your daily paper. I find the Inquirer on my I-Pad is not the greatest. A lot of the articles are on there for a couple of days. I get the Sunday Inquirer delivered and when reading, beyond the front pages, I notice that I saw many articles on line. There is no articles or scores of high school sports since Rick O’Brien left. Fix this problem!. For several months now when I open the Inquirer there is a second newspaper overlayed over the top half of the page. Why hasn’t this been corrected? I reported it several months ago.

App crashes at end of each article when iPhone is in airplane mode. Like using the app, especially when traveling. The app crashes at the end of each article when my iPhone is in airplane mode.

Battery drain. This app recently started draining 50% of my total battery usage while running in the background. I like the Inquirer well enough and appreciate having a news app for that platform. But I can’t keep something on my phone that uses up to half of my power consumption while not even on my screen.

It’s becoming less meaningful news all take time. If you want people to read it regularly, put some real news on here other then high school sports.

Awesome. Just awesome timely news and hard hitting stories always at the touch of my fingers.

App works fine but why no gift articles?. It’s a nice app. Easy to use and to navigate. Please consider adding a gift article button. It would be nice if I could share some of these stories with others.

Useful for local news. Use this app everyday to get local news

Glitchy App. The Inquirer app is at best a 2 star app given the number of glitches the user experiences on a weekly basis. Most of the glitches are related to opening the story to read, which doesn’t work once or twice a week.

This app is terrible. Scrolling is nearly impossible while ads load. The usability of moving between articles is miserable. There is no way to share links to articles unless you email them to someone. Searching is useless. Save yourself the trouble and just use the mobile website.

Review. Super articles and up to date information. Excellent sport writers and coverage.

Subscription. Since Jan my delivery has been below standards…Missed paper 22 times ..unable to contact supervisor..but my bill still gets taken out on time ..seriously thinking of canceling subscription I have since 1990…

Can’t believe this is free. I can’t believe this app is free. I don’t know why anyone would pay for a subscription to the Inky when the app is this good.

News. Be more current. why have high school sports results disappeared from the paper?

Below Average. App will not open many times and even when it does it is slow. Also, there is no option to 'copy' a link in order to share it.

Great content, poorly organized. The Inquirer and Daily News are outstanding news organizations, which is why it’s so hard to understand the poor quality of the app and web site. Sports dominates the headlines and the order of the stories. In-depth news is buried and hard to find. Please make your best work more prominent.

Highest quality journalism. It’s a joy and priviledge to read the news presented with true integrety, intelligence, depth and balance.

Good news. Read every morning

Sports betting ads ubiquitous!. I have subscribed to the Inky for decades and still support it and it’s journalism. But the app has become half sports betting promos. 10 ads or do at a time. Hard to find the good stuff amid all the awfulness.

Crashes and Burns. Content is good, though somewhat repetitive and gets outdated. Would love to see less content - maybe that would permit faster, more efficient loading and fewer crashes.

Poor Service. I read the on line version when I travel and enjoy staying connected, but the service is really poor in regards to my delivery service. They either don’t care about there customers or don’t have the capabilities to deliver newspapers in the Doylestown area.

I love the inky but the app is buggy. The app is pretty, but it crashes all the time and articles take forever to load. Please fix!

App could use some tweaks. While the content is pretty good, I'm often met with floating table of contents that makes it annoying to deal with. I'm seriously contemplating canceling my subscription and sending the app. What good does this app provide if you can't actually use it?

Full Article Doesn’t Load. I love the app when it works. However, on longer articles, the end of the article does not load. It simply gets cut off.

Freeze Up. When double clicking to get in ‘total article’ mode, if you look up a word, the app freezes and you have to reboot. Can this be fixed?
