I'm giving this a one for the sole purpose of me being charged the subscription rate TWICE within a 2 week period. I did the 14-day free trial and selected to have the 1 year membership upon the completion of my trial. All was well and I was thoroughly enjoying the app so I allowed the subscription to begin on September 4,2017. I had no issues during the first week of my subscription, however this week (week 2) when I went in to check out the new menus, it said my subscription had expired. I wasn't sure what had happened and I clicked "subscribe" thinking it would do like most other apps and say "you have already paid; restore purchase" or something of that nature, but no- it charged me $59.99 AGAIN!!! That's $120 in 2 weeks time- not exactly pocket change for my middle class budget! Then I could not figure out a way to contact the company so I'm sitting here, out an extra $60 and no way to get it back. If they see this review and rectify the situation, I will update with a fair and honest review- until then, one star for what I am left thinking is a dishonest, scheming company.
With a growing family, we find it hard to get simple, healthy dinners on the table. After trying a few meal kits, I figured we'd give emeals a try. We love the variety of meal plan options, but we mostly stick to quick and healthy. Having healthy meals in under 30 minutes is a lifesaver! We even get our groceries delivered to our door through the grocery integration. Not sure how my busy family would make it without emeals.
I subscribed and picked meals for 2. I picked a meal plan and picked items for one week at my local store via the app. The groceries ended up costing $80 for one week which is $20 to 30 more than I normally spend for TWO weeks of groceries. Following these plans would cost me $360 per month instead of my usual $100-150. The meals look great but I wish the food it called for was in more than one meal. 7 meals with completely different ingredients is great for variety but breaks the bank.
Tried the free trial. (1) There is no online availability to do anything other than to dowload a pdf of the meal plan you choose. Totally useless! You are therefore forced to use your phone to do anything that they show you in the video. (2) There is no REAL IPad application, despite them saying so. It's a blown up version of your IPhone app, that works on the iPad but is not made for it so is not configured properly. (3) There is no way to use recipes from various "programs" to build your weekly menu. If you don't like a menu, you have to fully switch to another menu selection but can't just pick a few from lets say "low carb" and a few from "Paleo", very inflexible. (4) The upload of the shopping list to walmart is horribly time consuming. There is not general upload, but you have to search through the store site, item by items, adding it to the list. Would not be so bad if the integration actually worked smoothly, but it doesn't. (5) So what am I paying for? There are many other application out there that have greater flexibility and are better integrated. Definitely not worth the subscription in my view. Not continuing after the free trial.
Nice app and meal planning. Love how u can send your grocery list to walmart for easy pickup. Could use a larger variety of meals to choose from.
I have use EMeals for about two years now, and it is truly a time-saving, money-saving, sanity-saving resource for our family. I ENJOY grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking now! It is easy to use and always works. I do wish I could organize my favorites...like I wish I could separate them by chicken, beef, etc. or even by categories like Easy, quick, etc. I also wish I could edit a Meal like you can on the shopping list. Once I've favorited a Meal, I'd like to edit ingredients if I prefer to substitute something. It would be a great way to customize!
I love this app. But on the most recent update they added Kroger click-list but for some reason I am unable to pull it up in my eMeals. Could be a glitch with the update. Please fix Kroger is also frys grocery.
Love this service for so many reasons, it saves me money, helps me get dinner on the table and keeps us from eating out so much! The Walmart grocery pickup has been a game changer and adds to the convenience!
So excited to use eMeals and Walmart pickup! eMeals simplifies my life and gets dinner on the table for my family!
The software and service provided by this company may or may not be right for you. However, I did a "free trial", providing a credit card number. They have a very strict policy requiring you to actually talk to a human being before they will let you cancel. What was interesting about this is that the "Customer Experience Account Specialist" spent quite a bit of time emailing me back-and-forth about how they would not accept the cancellation by email, but only by a phone call during business hours. In the end, this angered me to no end.
I'm only a week in, but I already am loving this service. I can cook pretty well with or without a recipe, but having a toddler totally sapped my creativity and motivation in the kitchen. I like having a selection of varied and healthy meal plans at my disposal every week, and the organized shopping lists are a lifesaver. The biggest surprise was how interesting and simple the recipes are, which makes them really easy to modify or scale up or down in quantity. I foresee us eating way less processed and fast food as a result of signing up for eMeals. One thing I wish they would add to the app is community forums for each recipe so people can swap their recipe modification ideas, which is something I enjoy about recipes posted on food websites.
Been a member for years and have tons of printed recipes pasted into my book. Now I can save and refer to favorites no matter where I am.
I found it very frustrating that I had to call to cancel this service when I signed up online. They'll gladly take your money but to cancel they make you jump through hoops. Totally unacceptable.
This is a great program. I've used it for several meal ideas. For quite a while the app was great - I could chose any main dish I liked and could share it with my recipe/grocery list called AnyList and the recipe would import automatically. For several months this has no longer worked (and not just with AnyList - Evernote, OneNote as well) I've made a few attempts to get this resolved, but it is still an issue. Once fixed app is worth 5 stars in my opinion.
I grocery shopped, cooked dinner, fed my family and loaded the dishwasher in 1 hr, 15min today. Wow! That's less time than it took my neighbors to go eat pizza. EMeals makes it incredibly easy to eat healthy meals that everyone will love. I've removed most of the pre-packaged foods from my house, and eat REAL food without additives via the simple recipes from eMeals. Yes... It's expensive. But I'm learning to cook with more variety, so it's worth it to me. No more magazines or Pinterest collections. This is SO much easier. Just one suggestion: I wish I could easily synch these meals to a calorie counter app like LoseIt. That would be EPIC. No thinking about my intake. Just cooking and enjoying myself. I'm super happy with the app.
While this is a really neat app and an excellent concept, I have found other apps to have a better selection and also free of charge.
Pros: Delicious food. Affordable premium for the information. Brought down my grocery spending 50% Love how it provides shopping lists. The recipes are simple and anyone in the family can follow the directions to make the food. Cons: Family plan provides too many servings for a smaller family (2 adults and small children.) Would recommend this to a friend.
We are a family of 4 and we love Emeals. They have a great selection of recipes and I like that you can change your preferences at any time. The app works great as well!
The app is easy to use and does all the planning for you. Emeals gives you a lot of of options, so if you don't like a meal choice you can switch it to one of your saved favorites or chose from older menus. I had some difficulties when the app updated but customer support was able to fix it.
I tried the app on its 14 day trial and went to cancel them but they didn't answer the phone tried again and they close at 3 tried again I'm assuming this time closed for memorial weekend. Sent 2 emails no response. I'm going to have to challenge them thru my credit card.
