Xavion App Description & Overview

What is xavion app? In flight, Xavion constantly imagines engine-failed glides to every runway in gliding range, and then shows you the safest-possible route as a Highway-In-The-Sky to take to an airport in the event of engine failure. This, finally, gives you guidance after an engine failure that is based on energy-management all the way down, where the computer does the glide-planning for you… you just fly through the hoops to the runway. Xavion also has instrument approaches in 3-D for the United States, so you can simply select any approach and then fly through the hoops to fly it!

As well, Xavion tracks other airplanes via ADS-B, and memorizes their location to track their WAKE TURBULENCE, moving the wake turbulence down and with the wind over time, showing the wake turbulence as little spiraling tornados. Finally, an App that tracks and shows you the wake turbulence of other airplanes.

As well, Xavion gets ADS-B weather if you have a portable receiver, and displays it, including the new icing, turbulence, and lightning products. Xavion also gets METARS and winds aloft from the internet if you have a WIFI or cell signal to help you plan before a flight!

Also, Xavion checks your weight and balance, and even estimates your takeoff distance and compares that to the length of the runway that you are about to take off on to warn you if the available runway length from your current location is marginal for a safe take-off.

Also, Xavion estimates time and fuel burn at all different altitudes to any destination, showing you the time and fuel burn required for each altitude enroute, so you can pick the best altitude.

Xavion, and Xavion alone in the sky, gives engine-failure guidance and wake-turbulence avoidance.

All USA VFR and IFR charts and plates are included with base subscription.

Really Neat App. I’m just getting started with it but it appears to be a great back-up to your regular instruments, wether gages or glass. The fact that you can give it a test fly in X-Plane 11 is pretty neat as well. This lets you get familiar with the app before hitting the airways for good. Overall, well done.

Great augmented situational awareness. Xavion is great once you configure and really get everything dialed in. It changes a lot each release even minor ones so you really have to keep on top of what changes occur so you know how to use it properly. I have practiced “engine out” procedures with it several times and it really does bring you to a runway but practice with it because it sometimes doesn’t bring you where you would see the runway miles before getting there if the airport area has trees or is hidden. I am considering dedicating an iPad mini to just xavion for emergency field location only. For me I am not yet willing to use it as a full efb. Excellent tool in the cockpit

update size. Why is it that every other app I use updates with reasonably small data downloads, and yet this one requires 3.6 GIGABYTES ?? (the entire app)

Great. Omg this is a big help for helping with instruments. It greatly helps a lot when you have to set up something else and have to look at some instruments

Flobewan. I never fly without this app running and mounted on my panel - this is huge safety insurance. Try it - you AND your passengers will feel a new level of relaxation! NOTE: I had a self-inflicted mess up in my craft configuration entries and emailed Austin for help. He spent considerable time and several back and forth emails to find and explain my problem! That is a HUGE benefit in a program as detailed and important as this one can be if you'll let it! Wonderful support!

Technology !!!!!. This is the most amazing technology in my airplane.

Free sectional charts!. New feature, free sectional charts. Saves me over $100/year. Love the engine out “glide through the boxes in the sky” to get you safely to an airport ready to land.

Thoughtful features. Love the new thoughtful features with airspace visualization in 3D! Although it takes some time to setup, this is a super powerful app and any pilot should understand their airplane performance (or fly it!) enough to populate. Just awesome... and it keeps getting better! Looking forward to next update.

Great addition & adds safety to flight. Have been using this program for a few years and it just keeps getting better and feature packed. It adds a new level of safety to flight by reducing pilot workload.

Worst interface of all time. This app literally has the worst interface I have ever seen. Sorry Austin, but dang, it’s really, really challenging to use.

Useless Enigmatic App. This App is absolutely useless for General Aviation. It lacks intuitiveness. It is cantankerous and enigmatic. It requires iPad with cellular data “GPS”. Amazingly Apple is so incompetent that they do not include s GPS chip in their regular iPads. If you couldn’t get X-Plane working on your pc years ago or today, you most likely cannot get this app working for you either. No help or directions is imbedded in the App.

Remains the Cutting Edge. I enjoyed a cross country trip last week from Southern California KSEE -KDMN-KALM-KBGD-KWDG Enid, Oklahoma while running Xavion. Throughout the trip I gained an appreciation of the power of this application as it forecasted real time safe power off glides to airports within my grasp in any event of a power failure. This App continues to offer the most sophisticated features still not offered in the other best in class products. I run Xavion alongside Seattle Avionics FlyQ EFB to add just another form of redundancy, both coupled with iLevil AW3 for ADS-B in. The original mission statement of glide guidance to a best suitable airport remains a favorite feature. Thanks for all your excellent development and support.

Excellent Program. I use this program with every flight I do using X Plane. A good learning device.

Love the resource. Just started using Davison. Great so far!

Great SA TOOL.. Xavion is a great tool for the pilot as an emergency device,EFB and a AHRS system great for backup and situational awareness. The HITS feature is great! Why isn’t ForeFlight and other big EFB apps including these features?

Chart Data. I already have a Seattle Avionics chart subscription, but was unable to use this app per the description saying I could use my existing chart data. Would of loved to have tried this app, but do not need 2 subscriptions to the same data.

Simply the best. This software is indispensable as a pilot. I run it on my iPhone and my iPad runs ForeFlight. Xavion is always on telling me where to land if something happens. Austin is very responsive to any issues you may have with the software and really is trying to make this the best end to end solution. There is a learning curve and some prework to get it dialed in but then it does all the thinking for you. Must have in my eyes.

Excellent and wonderful support. I recently flew from Houston to Salt Lake City. I ran Xavion alongside the IflyGPS app and really found its features to be very useful. The NEXRAD weather data was actually more accurate and easily visible than that on my G1000 and the IflyGPS. The VFR approach highway in the sky is vey helpful when flying into small mountain airports. I have also found austin to be very responsive and helpful when questions arise. I highly recommend this app. Mike Belfort

Approach discrepancy KCXO ILS 14. Xavion Procedure turn for ILS 14 Via Alibi is opposite of what plate indicates. Please look over ASAP

It just works. As a new pilot I found this app adds to my sense of situational awareness on many levels- from an accurate weight & balance envelope to confidence in knowing where to land upon a power failure. The weight & balance envelope feature is fantastic for my 2 place trainer where useful payload weight capacity is on the light side and balance tends aft heavy. I have tested the engine out feature, and yes the app will guide you via hoops right down to the nearest airport runway in an engine failure. I use Xavion running FlyQ on an i-pad mini on a RAM mount with a Bose A20 headset, a bluetooth Garmin GLO WAAS GPS and a Uvionix Ping ADSB-in for weather & traffic. I am looking forward to using Xavion in the future with the levil BOM with AHRS.

Potential. It has a lot of potential that I need to more work menus layout are confusing.

Amazing tool. Not only for the cool visual aids it provides, I can get amazing terrain alerts and more when flying. For sure a must have for X-Plane pro pilots.

Xavion Top Rated. I have used Xavion for 3 years now and I believe it’s one of the best aviation apps to give you a sense of security while in a single engine airplane flying day or night as it continuously looks for airports you could glide to based on your aircrafts glide characteristics. All you have to do is fly the highway-in-the-sky hoops! I have it turned on with every flight on a separate iPad. In addition, it can be used with X-Plane to practice engine out emergencies as well as in the actual aircraft. Regards, Don

Saves lives. An essential safety tool.. When the engine quits (and sooner or later it will), there are a lot of decisions to be made. Where am I going to land? Is there a suitable airport nearby? Which airport is best? Based on current winds and my position, which runway is best? How much altitude do I need to lose? What flight path will get me to the airport at the right altitude to make the runway and not overshoot it? Computers are WAY better at calculating answers to those questions than humans are, let alone a human under the stress of a life-threatening situation. Xavion keeps track of all that, and provides a clear, graphical emergency glide and landing plan the second you need it. I doubt a large corporation would provide such an app, for fear of liability. I am grateful that Austin has been willing to provide this essential safety tool. I never want to find myself descending with a failed engine, craning my neck to try to spot an airport in the darkness below. Xavion makes sure I won't have to do that. I won't fly without it.

FlyDoc. Private pilot for years, as well as low time Instrument Rated Pilot. Also, long time computer programmer. Thus I have just about every gadget known. I have used X-plane, many versions, and am delighted with the depth and skill of this program. Xavion was revolutionary when it was introduced, and certainly is worth update$ and additional features, now & in the future. Flying is expensive, but the cost of this program (and it is elegant) is a fraction of a percent. Real pilots know this. I talked to Austin years ago, and there was never any grand plan to be devious. But things change over the years. Paying for what you get is fair. I am in the medical field, and we regularly pay 10 to 15% per year "maintenance" on million dollar scanners. Same 15% on my complex digital copier. And the same 15% on very expensive government software ! Are you going to ask for a refund from the FAA because we don't like ADS-B ! I am hoping Austin is (gradually) trying to negotiate a compromise solution, like subscrition integration, etc, but I don't believe there can be a "subscriptions" you purchase "for life" when databases are required and updated every 56 days. You wanta' go back to 1980's ?? I love these programs, and they are excellent for the price. (Also, learn to program . . .)

Not compatible with iPhone. Was really excited to use this app, unfortunately it is not usable on newer iPhones (without a physical home button and with a top notch in the display). I was surprised to see this app was updated just a few days ago but still doesn't work with iPhones that have been out for multiple years now. If they don’t plan on supporting new iPhones they should mark the app as iPad only.

Love using this app with x-plane. If you fly with x-plane then this is the companion app you want.

Life-saving tool. Excellent situation awareness, terrain avoidance and emergency landing guidance. Xavion works on an iPhone as well as it does on an iPad. I mount it next to my undersized cockpit console, and have complete panel back up in case of electrical failure. I use earbuds underneath my headset for audible terrain avoidance alerts. When I get ADS-B, I will also enjoy traffic alerts. Xavion works seamlessly with X-Plane for flight planning and proficiency simulation. With Seattle Avionics subscriptions (additional) do you have moving me up display on VFR Sectional, IFR Enroute charts and Approach Plates. All I would ask in addition to these features is a one touch transition between approach plates and Highway-in-the-sky guidance to the threshold.

Another great update!. I have flown with this app for several years. It gives you the piece of mind you need to always know your path to the best suitable airport. Amazingly put together. Runs great when populated with your aircrafts individual data points. Developer is always providing great updates and always improving the app.

Bait and switch. Paid a one-time fee of $100 and was promised an app that would never require a monthly fee. Pure bait and switch and the developer refused my request for a refund. Shame on Austin Meyer.

Peace of mind. As a student GA pilot, this app gives me that extra peace of mind in case my engine quits. I keep it on my iPhone 6 Plus mounted on the panel. It’s a little work to setup, but once that’s done it works perfectly. I also use it when flying X-Plane and have tested it countless times. It led me to a safe landing every time. Won’t fly without it. Austin, thank you for creating this one of a kind safety tool. I wonder how many lives you’ll end up saving.

Great application. Excellent flight application. Simple to understand and use. Absolutely love the approach guidance display feature in VFR mode and in IFR, right out of “2001 a Space Odessa”

A revolutionary saftey app for pilots flying light aircraft. I have been using Xavion for a few years now. It is a revolutionary app that provides another safety backup for us while flying. We have dedicated a new iPad Pro 10.5 to this app on the co-pilots side of our aircraft. After performing the glide tests in out Cessna T210 we now know the expected performance and glide range we get in an engine out emergency. Testing it by hitting the EMER button and flying through the gates down to the closest airport takes a lot of pressure off in an emergency situation. It is also possible to set it up and test it using X-plane with whichever aircraft you have installed in your sim. The new wake turbulence display is a good example of how forward thinking this app is and it can possibly save your light plane from having a dangerous wake encounter. Flying in the northern California bay area there are plenty of large aircraft climbing or descending through our flight path as we approach some of the airports along the peninsula. A wake encounter while performing an IFR approach is something I prefer to avoid. As far as the subscription - I think the price is quite fair. Along with this apps subscription I continue my subscription to the Seattle Avionics FlyQ EFB app which also gets me the data for this and a nice plates app. I highly recommend this app with an ADS-B equipped in/out aircraft which allows you to be better prepared for an engine out or power loss scenario.

Fantastic SA with the additional the Flight Director. With the addition of the Flight Director capability I have truly fallen in love with this app. I have it connected to my Stratux box and it is AMAZING how accurate it is to my actual altitude and airspeed. I’m still dialing in on how best to use the flight director capabilities but having it up and running all time and then able to hit the emergency button if something happens to give you guidance to the nearest airport is incredible. Also having additional 3D reference to approaches and the missed procedure is unprecedented in an iPad app. Looking forward to future improvements as the app is always getting better.

I really want to switch from Foreflight, but.... ...I don’t want to invest in a new GPS/ADS-B receiver since this App doesn’t support Stratus/Scout. And, I don’t want to have to pay for a separate map subscription. I understand the Stratus/Scout issue with it being tied exclusively to Foreflight. However, the maps and plates are free downloads from the FAA, so it seems like with some programming it could be incorporated into the App. I gave it five stars because it’s a well executed App.

Night Peace of Mind. I love the originality of this app. At night, it brings a great peace of mind with continually calculating best glides to an airport.

Horrible to test drive... acts like a hijacker virus. would give Zero stars if I could. Even you reach the time limit on the free version, when test driving this app, it not only stops and makes you ask for more minutes, it hijacks your whole iPad, and like a Virus, ALL you other apps now freeze and require extending time on Every One! I even erased and rebooted the iPad - and there still ghost hijacks. The nearest airport vector looked promising, but not when Xavion is behaving like a virus! As a CFII I can’t afford that. User beware!!

Scam Artist. Meyers is a crook and a scam artist. He took money from hundreds of people with this app early on and then reneged on the deal. Good app. Unfortunately it is run by Myers the crook. Can't trust him. Zero integrity. And unfortunately we need to be able to trust the material in the app but when it's Myers is putting it in everything comes into question then. 👎

A God-send for all pilots!. Xavion takes the stress of that "Oh, crap" moment out of fling when your engine suddenly goes silent. No more panic of trying to find a place to land. A push of a button and the nearest reachable airport is shown along with the best route to get there. No more guessing if you can reach an airport in an engine out situation. This is especially handy in IFR or VFR at night situations!! A blessing, indeed!!!!

Xavion. There’s a lot to like about this app. Although it’s cumbersome to get set up and really requires a subscription to Seattle avionics maps and charts to be fully functional, I really love the situational awareness of the safe glide function. Written from an engineers perspective, the app takes some getting used to but once you figure it out it really works well.

Best AHRS/EFB supplemental "Glass Cockpit" available. I've used and tested all of the major EFB apps and once you have basic maps, airport info, weather briefings, subscriptions, etc. they are pretty much all the same with just user interface making them different. That leaves the GPS mapping overlays and 3D AHRS views and warnings as the difference (some of the packages do not offer 3D AHRS at all). Connectivity to ADS-B and WAAS-GPS synchronization was a breeze. The technology of Xavion rivals many of the critical/certified avionics equipment apps costing many thousands (this is NOT used as a replacement for certified primary instrumentation rather it is for supplemental use on an iPad of course). To have this available on GA flights is extremely useful and can make a huge difference both in providing supplemental information, warnings or most important; in the event primary instrumentation fails. The user interface is very easy to navigate with a very short learning curve. The authors were obviously experience pilots as they have done a fantastic job of making the information you need quickly available, finding closest airport information and returning the screen back to AHRS/GPS mapping view without needing to distract you by digging around on your iPad looking for something when you should be scanning the horizon, primary instraments and flying the plane. Execellent in all areas.

Great for pro’s, massive for Students. Connected with the sim, X-Plane, it rapidly accelerates the visual cues curve, scolds when necessary, teaches sitAware . Not seamless, but what is, in this world. Work it to,your advantage, to really fly or to play games, whatever you need

Xavion could save your life!. Xavion constantly computes places you could land and how to safely glide there if your engine quits right now... As a new glider pilot this is incredible peace of mind, since I don’t have an engine! Xavion integrates seamlessly with the X-Plane simulator so you will be familiar with this, and its many other useful and lifesaving features well before using it in a real cockpit. Xavion will absolutely make you a safer pilot. Highest possible recommendation!

Best Aviation App for Safety in Flight.. Priceless peace of mind! This is so amazing it would be great to have this as a certified panel replacement—it’s that great! This is by far the best investment in aviation I’ve made! Xavion continues to amaze, now with wake turbulence display right there on the screen. Much simplier to configure. One improvement I can think of if is maybe cloud storage for when I need to recover from backup or moving to a new iPad. Tested it out with FlightBox. Easy as Pi and now waiting for my AHRS module to complete things! Just when I think there is no way this app can get better, it does! And I think I have a pretty imagination. After customizing to your aircraft (another great reason to go fly)...not much need for this in new version. Engine out! ... Press the emergency button...Fly the hoops...all the way down to the available airport! Priceless peace of mind. Cost of an app which makes that happen? Not even close to being a factor! Now with charts overlay and ultra smooth panning this can even be used tactically; and even more so with devices like iLevil or similar for WAAS-GPS, AHRS and ADS-B traffic and weather. Well worth the nominal price given you get *all* the charts that are available from Seattle Avionics. Although tying my other Seattle Avionics subscriptions would be nice. Weight and balance too...logs each flight. Quick handy notepad...the list goes on..and on. Most key for me is that the map continually shows posible airports to glide to given my position so I can always tell if it might be a cornfield for sure or maybe an airport I'd be terminating my flight into in case of troubles. You just can't beat that. Oh sure, you can do without it and fly your glide speed and guesstimate how close you will get to that airport but then you will be thinking "I wonder if I will actually make it?". In my case I glance over and presto...I know what my chances are and press the emergency button and fly the hoops! It even reminds to drop the gear! Worth every penny of my subscription!

True Safety Innovation. Download this now! Chair fly with your simulator...learn it...then go fly! You’ll love this app!

Best Aviation App. This is the single best aviation app there is, hands down. In a nutshell, you put in your custom speeds (best glide, etc.) and it syncs to your iPad or ads-b and shows you an EFIS. So if your instruments fail, you don't go boom in IMC. Where it really shines is using that very precise custom data if you have an engine failure. Hit the red button, and Xavion tells you what fields, if any, you can make at your altitude given your custom glide data. What's more, you don't have to figure out the approach. Xavion calculates that and gives you hoops in the sky to fly through! And it has your EFB maps, plates, etc, all integrated. The single best aviation app there is, I cannot believe given the cost of everything else aviation related (100LL?!) that this lifesaving tech isn't worth much more than what it's priced at. I'm disappointed others would give it 1 star simply because the designer had to increase the price to keep the data current. If it's so bad why did they buy it in the first place? Simple answer is because it's incredible. Worth every penny.

Great app and outstanding support from the developer. I have used Xavion while flying my Cessna 150 for a few years. The app has always worked perfectly in the cockpit and it gives me peace of mind knowing my options in the event the engine quits. I have communicated with Austin a couple of times and he has always been responsive. Most recently I had noticed a minor display issue on the new iPad mini 6 as it has a larger screen than previous models. Austin went above and beyond to resolve this, including buying a new iPad mini 6 himself to test.

Genius app can save your life. I love this app. The only problem it had was that there wasn't a way to receive updates to the airport database. Now, with the latest version that is no longer an issue. The complainers about the pricing structure are obviously not thinking about what it might feel like to lose an engine and not have a clue where to go. The author has even changed the update price temporarily to 99 cents!, so that everyone who has the app can get the latest update to the database for practically nothing. This is not a game app! This could be your life we're talking about here. Anyone who fails to see the flexibility he is offering especially now is pretty short-sighted in my opinion. There is a huge amount of development cost, and liability issues that the author has to be concerned with. I ask the other members of the vast majority of us users who agree with me that this ability to always have a current airport database is worth a measly $9.99 a month, and a veritable steal at 99 cents a month to add your vote to this review. Austin, please don't let the short-sighted few ruin this great app for the rest of us.

Great App. It makes for a safer Aviation experience!

A must for SE IFR. Can you imagine flying single engine IFR at night or not even IFR but at night? Xavion will help you tremendously and could be a lifesaver. And what helps you too is the ability to practice at home with X-plane simulation. Fly in the area you gonna fly and fly in the plane you're gonna fly, take your iPad with Xavion and practice!

Xavion is the coolest iOS app for aviation. I run Xavion most flights. Not only does it help me visualise my weight and balance, it also automatically calculates my achieves takeoff distance. This lets me build a personal library of my “expected vs actual” performance in my aircraft. Really unique app. Austin also replies to emails which is cool.

AUSTRALIA NO LONGER SUPPORTED. Just updated the app to find that Australia is no longer supported. Only major international airports appear, no GA or regional airports at all. Total disaster.

support. dose this support xplane 11 ?

Australia does work. Australia is supported, I don’t think you get the charts for aus. not 100% sure. Have been using with X-plane 11 and it works great. I love the guidance down to the runway, the direct to, VFR/IFR approaches, not to mention it's nice to have a moving map and hud outside of the game. This is a really nice product, thank you austin

Canada Airports. While I understand you don’t support Canadian VFR charts. But I don’t see Canadian airports either is that supported ? Also is the price lower for reduced functionality for Canadian users ?

REFUND PLEASE. Originally purchased this product with the agreement that it was a one time fee with updates. Now the developer decides to go the monthly route and I'm supposed to just accept that! In his words, instead, i am offering a 6 months subscription of equal value OR, just do NOT update the app! stay with the original version you purchased FOREVER then you just get exactly what you bought, forever, with never a change i cannot imagine a more pathetic idea, but if it is what suits you, then please feel free to do it that way! austin Great... So in a few months I have a $100 app that is outdated even though I paid $100 originally with updates included!!! How is this fair or better yet right!

Review. I have had this for a co o one of years. I find some of the flight planning confusing but love the emergency glide as fly IFR in a single

Ouch.... $9.99/mth not long after initial purchase? As a weekend warrior using Xavion as a 'nice to have', regretfully I can't do it. Too bad.

Love the app!!. I was one of the original client that paid the app back in the day. Didn’t mind the transition to a monthly or yearly fee because of the work the Xavion team put into the app. Works great with Stratux. A small upgrade to the user interface could be interesting to give it a nicer look and compare with the competition. All of the knowledge the team has as the inventors of X plane could make this app look incredible in an instant. A Canadian subscription would be welcome as well for the maps. But the monthly/yearly subscription to airports includes airports from pretty much everywhere! In the end the real value is the constant analysis the app provides always providing a plan B to a nearby airport. A must have app for pilots!

Best x-plane fms. B.E.S.T.

Too bad I am not a pilot.... I follow since the first version, I was very impressed, now I am blown away... Great job well done.

Life Saving App for Aviators !. If you fly in marginal VFR to IFR weather this app transforms your iPad into a great safety device with it's smart backup attitude indicator in case of engine failure !

Works amazingly on x-plane 11. So impressed with this app when flying in the simulator and connected to the iPad fast seamless and functional and free for now!!! Just amazing use it or lose it

Dynamic App. I like the app so far. I have it running on the IPhone in its stand. It dynamically looks for the nearest/more suitable airport around. I have to use it from take-off on the next flight. Austin respond quickly.

Love the app. Learning to fly with this app and flight sim is fantastic, enjoying every second.

Use it with X-Plane. Use it for visualization with X-Plane 11. It works perfectly and uses X-Plane data so the information is always in sync.

A M A Z I N G. I fly with X-Plane 11 90% of my day and this app makes it easier to view my map.

Xavion. Only had it for fun. Will not update. See air nav pro for synthetic vision. No subscription.

Works well. I fly about 150 hours per year in my Mooney, most of it in the mountains, with regular trips to the arctic. After a few teething pains with entering my data, it works as advertised. I've tried it twice, successful both times. Now waiting for the terrain view to be more natural.

Won't fly without it It's a Must Have. As reliable as single engine aircraft are these days, still, I don't want to be unprepared if the unthinkable happens. The 'glide to nearest airport' feature is worth its weight in reassurance-gold and makes for a a bit more relaxed piloting.

Wow!. This app does exactly what it claims to do. I'm running it on the iPad mini and it works great. I've only made three flights so far but it is really impressive. It also locks in on private airstrips that I would not even know about. I tested it at my home airport on downwind and If I had lost the motor there is no doubt I could have followed the HITS boxes and made a safe landing and that was only about 800 ft AGL. I am very impressed with this app and would say it is well worth the selling price.

Converted to forced monthly charges.. I loved this app in its early days, I practiced power off landings very successfully. Now the app requires that you not only pay for the app but also for a subscription to make the app usable, this was not what I paid $100 for and I would not have bought it if I had known down the line I would be limited. Wasted $100, bring back the old version, get rid of subscriptions, or refund me.

Nice backup. Bought this as a backup to the standard pilot skills. I can not think of a better application sitting on my min-iPad ready for use. Fascinating to watch the route being plotted dynamically while flying along and certainly gives an enhanced feeling of confidence at 9000 ft. Austin has also incorporated new features bed on feedback. Very good customer service.

A mini might be a better platform. Love this app, but securely mounting the iPad facing forward is essential, and a yoke mount obviously won't work. I will try it again after Christmas (and my new mini!).

Fool me once.... Like other reviewers I was burned by spending $99 and then being forced to buy a subscription, but that isn’t the worst of it. I spent thousands of dollars on upgrades for the TruTrak AP integration and when it stopped working after an app update he told me that maybe he could fix it sometime this year. The developer is extremely unprofessional and was very rude to me when I offered my time for free to fix it (under NDA of course). I don’t even want to think about how much time and money I wasted on the upgrade.

Best Co-pilot. And why wouldn't you want to know if you can make it to the nearest airport from your current position and altitude? It that were all this app did it would be a great app, but it does so much more. I fly with this app from flight planning to landing. I get high resolution moving maps, traffic, weather and a host of features supported by other EFB apps. Mostly though, I get piece of mind knowing that I'm one click away from starting a process which will get me to safety.

Pilots: biggest cheapskates on the planet. This isn't a review of the app, but about the whining pilots in the reviews. Yeah, we get it, you made a one-time purchase and now feel gypped. You were gypped. Get over it. I recall lots of complaints about the old version that it wasn't being updated, airports etc. were out of date, no improvements to the app. That didn't surprise me as lots of software should be sold by subscription, not a onetime purchase. Now with a subscription, hopefully this will be kept current. If it's too expensive for you, delete it and move on. I don't want to see your whining here, I want honest reviews as to its usability. Now to the app. The first problem I ran into was it doesn't honor iOS copy/paste, so I can't paste in the long, random password I use for accounts.

Good adjunct to XPlane. This app adds a lot of realism to flying with X-Plane. Although I have not had the chance to spend much time with it, you can immediately see how much additional info this app provides, and how much it compliments the simulator.

Great app for aviators. I have this app open on every flight--it makes my passengers feel much safer as they can always see what we would do if engine or avionics quit. Also it gives me another backup for ALL charts & procedures for instrument flight.

Nice, but just got more expensive. This was a $99 app to start with, and with this update it just became useless unless you are willing to shell out a whole lot more money. The subscription is more expensive than ForeFlight. I understand the need for more accurate maps, but this isn't the primary navigation app. The subscription rates need to be far more reasonable. Additionally, the UI for configuring an aircraft is difficult on an IPad and nearly impossible on an iPhone. I like the potential of this app, but execution could be better and price definitely needs to come down.

I won't fly without this app. As a 950hr private pilot with instrument rating, I have tested Xavion's engine out glide paths many times, and it has always worked. Gliding to a hard surface airport that's easy to see would be nice, but I'm not within range of those very often. But I found, using Xavion, I'm almost always in range of a private grass strip! Xavion sees those as well and will reliably lead you to it, even on a moonless night. That's a safety blanket I like having.

Had such promise. We were an original adopter and user of this program. The $100 initial app fee was a bit hard to swallow, but based on an email exchange with the developer was told that was all we'd ever pay. Now with this "upgrade" we find the product we purchased is no longer usable. Must make another purchase to regain the previous functionality. This is just wrong and unfair. I can not recommend this product due to the business practices of the developer.

Sadly Xavion must go. I used to love this app. Despite a few quirks, it functioned well. I used it as a back-up AHRS as well as for the airport guidance on long cross country flights. Then Austin realized the old static DOD airport list he uses for X-Plane was hopelessly out of date and he needed to switch to a maintained curated list. Fair enough. I already have SeattleAv subscriptions for other apps like Foreflight. I could live with an occasional update and still use the AHRS. Sadly, in what much be an overreaching act of greed, Austin has now ransomed the AHRS function with a pay up or else screen. Too bad, because I would have liked to use the nearly blank map screen with my Stratux for traffic display. Now, Xavion and its 2.2Gig footprint are getting trashed. Greed kills.

X Avion. A great tool for GA pilots. For smaller planes with no glass cockpit, XAvion is a very economic alternative. It serves multiple crucial purposes: - a very effective GPS, - a powerful backup for partial panel situations, a life saver. - an effective glide path calculation mechanism for engine out situations. - landing / take off distance calculations. - a cheap way to practice glass cockpit All the above conditions could appear any time over the entire flight. And it is laborious to calculate them or judge them correctly while in flight. X avion uses the GPS coordinates very effectively and makes all the above easily available to the pilots in most stressful and demanding conditions I really like the engine out glide path directions to the nearest airport. And the advantage of havingna great backup for on board instruments Thanks and Regards, Jose -

The Future of Flight. I can't even describe how useful this app is! It takes all the other pilot aid apps and puts them to shame! I'll never fly again without it! Thank you!

MUST-Have Aviation App. Spectacular App! It is essentially a full glass panel with synthetic vision on an iPad. The ability to seamlessly take you directly to the nearest runway in the event of an engine failure could easily save your life and makes this app worth many thousands of dollars (really it is priceless). It should be in every aircraft flying. Thanks Austin, keep up the great work!!

this is almost a bait and switch!. I wasted no time buying this app for $100; even used rare to never, that's a great price until they started making you pay extra for the maps that started off free. I bought this app solely for its emergency functionality, and I'm disappointed that that feature is now being held hostage in a bid to compete with foreflight. I absolutely refuse to spend money on both xavion and foreflight when I only fly with ONE iPhone.

Great backup in any airplane. As a pilot I am always looking for safety features and I also wanted a simple backup for primary flight instruments (safety and convenience). This app is easy to use and the emergency landing feature is excellent. The backup display is also well thought out and functional. I would strongly recommend it.

Must Have App. Xavion is an amazing app. This thing is so good I have added a second iPad to my array that's dedicated just to Xavion. I know it's not recommended, but this app loads and starts up so quickly that you could leave it off until you needed it. It finds and directs you to the nearest runway within seconds of starting up. It's pretty cool having multiple, reachable landing sites constantly selected and ordered. Even if you never use the "highway in the sky" functionality to guide you down, this thing is worth 100 times the price just to have a constantly updated list of target emergency landing spots. A piece of hardware with the capability of this app would sell for thousands as will be the case in the experimental niche. The developer is a genius and a pilot/aircraft owner. He is also very responsive to input and request. I emailed a request and had a positive response from him within minutes. I have made multiple cross country trips and simulated power off approaches with the app. All with great results. I won't fly without this app. You shouldn't either.

Also unhappy. The app itself is very good, but the transition to a monthly fee for updated charts--while of the best intentions--is a disservice to us early adopters. We were sold this app as a one time purchase. Explicitly stated. Now, our purchase has been rendered useless without notice or consultation. If you don't but the updates, it no longer works. Once trust has been lost, it is difficult to re-establish. This app asks us to trust it to deliver us to a emergency landing when we lose an engine. I no longer trust it or by extension Mr. Myers' company.

Great idea...too expensive. I'm a big fan of Mr. Meyer and the aviation programs that he has come up with over the years. I am excited about Xavion because it seems like a great idea, but after downloading it and paying for a months subscription I was very surprised to see that the subscription doesn't include charts. I missed this fact when downloading because I assumed with a price like $240/year everything should be included. This app should be no more than Garmin pilot or ForeFlight which can be had for $99/year. As I said, great app but way too expensive. I will not be continuing my subscription until the price is realist.

Very Good App to have in an Emergency. I recently had an emergency IMC where I lost my artificial horizon, and discovered this app after the event. I've tried it out in the plane a couple of times and it looks as if it'd be useful in an e,ergency. Austin's responsiveness to suggestions is very impressive, He added Clarity as an AHRS device only a. Ouple weeks after being asked. excellent product.

Ouch!. Was surprised to find my 5 star review from 4 years ago was the only one listed under current reviews.I tried to delete but couldn't. Issue was that expensive app was originally sold stating that no updates would be needed since airports don't move. Some time later developer decided that expensive yearly updates were mandatory and no refund offered to those who bought under false pretenses. I took my hundred dollar loss and walked away. The app was good, not sure how it is anymore and other apps that can be used WITH moving maps like Foreflight have probably overshadowed. It's probably still a good app but doubt it's a good value.

Awesome App. Great work Austin! I use this app every time I fly. Can't beat the situational awareness this app provides. Allows me to concentrate on other aspects of flying. It's like having a co-pilot that knows the area with you no matter where you go. It's fun trying to pick out the airports that Xavion knows are there and knows whether or not you can make the field, but you may not even see it yet.

Carson. I use Xavion when I fly. Period !!! It has always provided Every aspect of flight information "As Advertised" !! Thankfully, I've not had an engine failure while flying singles, or an electrical failure in twins or singles, piston or turbine. I use a Clarity SV to import Wx, ADS-B, AHRS, SynVis, and all other available info, such as nearest "Best" airport for the craft I am flying entered to the Xavion data base. Also, checking the regularly updated Wx at my destination airport while enroute is a handy benefit. And, the clear, precise AHRS/SynVis presentation of the landing runway (I run the split screen PDF/Map pref) is comforting when getting in close on an approach to minimums in blowing snow !! The best NEXRAD Wx info I have seen on ANY device is the Wx depiction I see running Xavion on either my iPhone or iPad. In short, I don't fly without Xavion !! 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, Buddy !! Keep up the Great work, Austin !!! Carson Comm, Inst, CFI-M

This app will save lives. Ignore all the whining reviewers that are too cheap to pay a very reasonable price for a fantastic application and data services. Those people have no idea what it takes to deliver something like this. When you’re pilot in command you have to be ready to answer the question - "where do I put the airplane if something goes wrong." It’s a pop quiz with no warning and despite your best skills and judgement, you may come up with the wrong answer on your own. This application is something you want helping you if that time ever comes. Austin’s done a fantastic job.

It's a life saver!. I'm happy I've not been in a situation where I needed it to save my life but I've practiced and know it could. Beautifully designed and the support is second to none. If you fly a single, fly IFR, or fly a twin that won't perform for long on one engine you need this App. Cheap insurance, and an amazing tool.

Genius App Can Save Your Life (supporting review). There is no doubt about the lifesaving quality of this tool as long as the guidance it provides draws on a current database of prospective locations to put down. As a mountain pilot, I can't just land anywhere as most places are completely unsuitable. In other words, the terrain where I fly is mostly vertical. I am grateful to Austin for caring about other pilots enough to make this wonderful tool available to all at a nominal cost.

BEYOND AWESOME!!. There is only ONE aviation application to have on-board your aircraft if you fly in instrument meteorlogic conditions (or even if you don't!) and that's XAVION! Under normal conditions, it's a great glass cockpit that works like a charm, providing a gps dervied AHRS (Attitude and Heading Reference System) that rivals the ones in the Major Airlines. Lose your vacuum in IMC or lose your DG or AI and you'll wish you had this app on board, believe me! But - to me - the real value of XAVION is that, IN AN ENGINE OUT EMERGENCY, it will guide you right down to the nearest runway! Just fly through the hoops, no thinking involved!! I've lost an engine in a single engine airplane at night, so I should know!.........when you lose an engine, you ain't got much time to think about where and how you're getting on the ground. THIS APP DOES ALL THE THINKING FOR YOU.....Do yourself a favor and GET THIS APP!!

Bait and switch is disappointing. I had previously rated this app 4 stars but am downgrading after the recent "upgrade" that added a monthly subscription. The functionality is great and could really save your life. But I'm in the same camp as many other users and very disappointed with the bait-and-switch of the recent upgrade. I was an early adopter and paid the $100 purchase price because we were promised there would never be an additional fee (it was explicitly stated in the app description). Now in addition to $100 up front, it is $120/year to use the basic functionality of this app. Disappointing for an app with so much promise. Keep the dirty side down! ✈️

Life Saver. Xavion allowed me to descend out of IMC in mountainous terrain to a safe landing after an electrical failure. I never fly at night or in instrument conditions without it, and that precaution paid off. It may have saved my life. The fact that you can practice with it using X-plane adds incalculable benefit. So many single engine airplane's out there right now are over 30 years old that the risk of instrument flying increases each year. Given that phenomenon, Xavion is the biggest bargain out there.

A "must have" in the cockpit…. I fly with a copy of Xavion running on my iPhone mounted on my aircraft panel, for the "just in case" scenario of losing an engine. A big positive factor is how this program can be "practiced with" using X-Plane while on the ground, providing a lot of confidence on how Xavion can tell you if (and how) you can get to the safest airport should the engine quit. If Xavion says I'm out of range to land, then it's a no-brainer decision to pull my Cirrus parachute. Very cool.

Epic. For all those Charles Lindburgh CFI's who think this is unneccesary.... good for you!!!! For the rest of us who want to move into the 20th century and embrace technology to possibly save our bacon.... this is the app for you. I have been able to watch Xavion grow and am continually amazed at this product. For the price, NOTHING IS EVEN CLOSE! If you really need a bunch of half-hack pilots to tell you whether you need this, then just move on. Drop $20k in some kind of SV from Avidyne or Garmin. I'll gladly take an iPad and Xavion. Fly safe.

Chump change. For the cost of 20 gallons of gas, you might save your life. This app gives you all you need to have the best chance of a safe engine out landing. It takes all the guess work out of the emergency and gives you total situational awareness. All the extra navigational features are a free gift. So for a hundred bucks a year you can save yourself and your passengers. How would you feel without it, if it suddenly goes quiet in the cabin? Like a chump, that's how.

Xavion Emergency Lander. I purchased this software for the Emergency Lander function alone. The value of this function could be in saving an airplane and its occupants so it is clearly worth the price. In addition, I got Synthetic Vision and a backup glass panel instrument system on my conveniently placed ipad in the airplane. If getting on the ground is important to you when problems in the air happen, Xavion Emergency Lander can make your day or night by putting you at the end of the runway in a position to land. In my USAFsingle engine fighter pilot days, I practiced simulated flameout (SFO) approaches. With this application, every pilot has that capability irregardless of the weather or time of day. Every pilot should have this in their iPad toolbox!

An app every pilot should have in the cockpit. This app is so amazing, I can't believe it exists at any price. If you find yourself with engine probs. in IMC or in terrain or at night (how about all 3?), you simply fly the path shown on your iPad. It even has surface wind information. We all practice "engine out" over an airport or a nice, large field during the day. Xavion is designed for actual emergencies that occur during cross-country flying.

Great app. Really enjoy this app. Once I got working with it and put in the info it needs it is a great app. Used it in the archer I rent, and used a suction mount to put it over the horizon and dg. Had my own little glass cockpit. The emergency landing portion did just as advertised. Started out clean and needed turns and room to get to the airport. As I added flaps it showed me needing a more direct route to the field. Used it on two flights so far, and it is working great.

Incredible program!. I've been using Xavion for a few months and I just installed an AHRS to provide accurate position and airspeed input. The program is incredible! After calibrating the three glide configurations for my Lancair IV-P I tried it in emergency mode from cruise altitude. The app showed me the magenta boxes to fly through and it took me to he runway as pretty as you please. This is the best insurance you can get for your plane without a doubt.

A very unique piece of software. It is the best standby instrument you can have: If everything fails, it tells you if you can reach a nearby airport, and then guides you there with "highway in the sky" taking into account the glide performance of your aircraft it has previousely learned. A lifesaver.

Fantastic. I have been using this app for a couple of years now. Austin just keeps improving it. It does take a little setup in your particular aircraft setting up your glide ratio, airspeed indicator tape speeds etc. but after that it is very easy to use, very slick and is CHEAP insurance for a panel failure or engine failure. Why take a chance when you have only one try? I like my odds with Xavion, flying the hoops to the airport. Never fly without it! Especially in IMC. I have it loaded on my iPad as well as a dedicated iPhone that I mount on the panel. It takes up very little space in my Cesna 182.

Excellent app. Using only in training for now, but I'm finding it to be intuitive and completely reliable as well as a material value add to the cockpit.

I want the app that I paid $100 for. I made a large purchase of this app, spending $100 on something that was simple and a stable backup... For it's purpose, it met the requirements. The description assured that we would have updates for the life of the app.... BUT, once the app was updated to require a Nav subscription, the functionality was taken away from me. Gone. Unless I spend $120 per year, my initial investment is useless. I refuse. I paid a large sum for an app that worked, and now it does not. I don't want a refund, I want the full functionality of the app I paid for. You changed the rules Xavion, do what is right and 'grandfather' in those of us who purchased early. We trusted you.

Backup for a fully glass cockpit. I am taking Xavion on board despite having a fully glass SR-22 Cirrus for two reasons. First as insurance in case of a full electrical out, second because the takeoff distance record is very useful for those iffy days on iffy short runways. Under the hood the program is by no means intuitive nor self-explanatory in my opinion, Moreover, the interface does not make modern and optimum use of the touch screen. Austin insists on his own view on what the user interface should be, and therefore inputs are not conventional (for example, setting cruise parameters does not use any standard iPad number entry mechanism, rather it reminds me of the ancient BCD number selectors on the front of old computers, for those of you that are old and techie enough to know what I am talking about. ) I would like to see a better interface; I would also like to see a way to share airplane/configuration data across my devices through iCloud or at least through email. Foreflight is the app that is runs in the foreground most of the time that I fly. It is pricey, but there is no equal to Xavion for safety so I turn it on to do its thing in the background.

Bad new pricing scheme. With the new update, Xavion has become useless for its primary function, providing emergency landing guidance, unless you pay $120/year for digital data updates - more than any other EFB app charges for full nav charts, and that's on top of the $100 app purchase price! Only the $120 doesn't get you nav charts. If you want those, you'll have to pay up another $120/year. And since Xavion isn't particularly good as a preflight planning app (which is fine, on its own; I originally bought it for the inflight functionality) you're going to want to have a subscription to Foreflight or WingX on top of that. Xavion used to be a fantastic purchase, offering excellent functionality for a one-time $100 purchase, a great complement to a full-featured subscription EFB app. Now it's just not worth it.

6 Stars if I could!. I came to this app just recently. Holy hell, this is brilliant. Yes, its not cheap, but I'm gladly paying my $9 bucks a month for this kind of currency. You don't need a Seattle Avionics account for this app to save your life, but that also adds to this app's robustness.

This App Can Save Your Life. Superb aviation app that provides back up instrumentation and can save your life in case of an emergency. With several documented saves to its credit, Xavian is worth every penny of its $10/month price.

Never fly without.. As a student I always have this running on a crosscountry. While Florida may be flat, knowing where you can put down safely takes a lot of the guess work out if you are busy flying.

This app saves lives.. And it's the only app of its kind. If you fly a small plane, you should use this app. It's a dirt-cheap insurance policy! The subscription is understandable considering the ongoing map data upkeep required by the developer.

Is greed trumping integrity?. First and foremost, I've been a fan of this app since it's inception. I've even emailed Austin a couple of times asking for his advice, which he kindly replied each time. He struck me as a nice man with the best of intentions. But watching this whole new update come out and seeing what Austin has done to his early supporters is a little disturbing. The early supporters have, in essence, been given the middle finger with one hand and the open palm of greed with the other...demanding more money. As a man requesting people's trust, you follow through with your promises...written or otherwise expressed. When Xavion came out, you said the App was a one time purchase... You had hundreds of supporters. Don't you think you should honor the original arrangement to those who helped get the app to the big leagues? I'm sure you can figure a way to fix this. You're a genius, Austin... Don't become an evil genius.

Not worth the price. My background——commercial and instrument rated, over 1,500 flight hours, own and fly a high performance Cessna I bought new, well maintained and equipped. Lots of news stories in Aviation Consumer and flying magazines reported this as a one time charge for lifetime use, so I thought it would be interesting. Has many people who complained they bought it on that promise, as I did, and then found the terms had changed and it was a monthly charge. The real guts is from Seattle Avionics, which I use and love. Most of the mapping programs bring out features that are similar to each other, but in discussing this with several of the mapping people at Oshkosh, none are planning anything like this as it has so little utility. Buy Seattle or one of the competitors, but skip this. You might find it entertaining to read some of the earlier comments about Austin Meyers and his business practices. I find it ironic that he is outraged about patent trolls, but sees no parallel to the bait and switch he practiced himself. Save your money, get Seattle Avionics, WingX, Foreflight or a similar competitor that does far more honestly and at a reasonable price.

Xavion App Customer Service, Editor Notes:

You may notice that the emergency hoops start a little ways farther in FRONT OF YOU NOW, especially if you cruise well above you nominal gliding speed. This is intentional! Now, the FIRST hoop is plotted the END of your deceleration from cruise speed to nominal glide speed. This deceleration gives you a few moments to run engine-out checklists as you approach the gliding hoops, without having to climb, turn, or descend at the same time. A bunch of UI tweaks based on user feedback: ADSb receiver vertical input smoothed for smoother updating of altitude and vertical speed. We now show the pre-flight weather even if you only enter a destination, not departure airport as well! In the event you only enter a destination airport, not departure airport, then Xavion will just use your CURRENT location as your departure. Now we have the glide ranges showing on the sectional and low and high enroute maps, not just the default Xavion terrain-map. Now we have larger arrows showing the direction of other traffic on the traffic map. Now the AOA indicator now does not turn red until you get close to the stall... it was turning red too early on the previous build. Downwind take-off and landing warnings only happen now if you are actually on or over a runway!
