FINDING THAT UNWANTED NOISE FREQUENCY!. Ok, Im a professional Videographer but I am not a sound man. sometimes I have to be one. I am absolutely giddy and blown away how a $4.99 app on my iphone 6S plus can quickly tell me what frequency an electrical transformer or fluorescent light fixture ballast room hum or an AC air vent noise is so i know what frequency to filter out in post to remove it from my video soundtrack. Not sure if there is a feature to save the pause of the screen like a screen capture to photos or possibly email it to myself so when i get back to the edit suite from location, i can reference the image to work with. That would be a very sweet addition to the next upgrade! This app is fantastic regardless of missing that enhancement..... 5 thumbs up! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Approved by a professional audio technician. I use this app when a show isn’t worth pulling out my calibrated usb microphone and laptop. It does its job and helps me ring out the room for pesky feedback. Also use it at home in my home theater.

Good App. The application is good but, no instructions for newbies like me, no help section.

Mastering Engineer. I must say I am more than disappointed with the latest update, as it does away with two of the things that made it unique: (1) the ability to monitor up to 1/12th of an octave (aka 12 musical semitones per octave. After all isn't this the namesake of the app!?) and on a related note (2) touching the graph no longer provides the quick frequency to pitch readout (aka musical letter name). I can't understand why you would use the update to remove essential features that made your product unique? I used this daily in my professional music mastering studio previously. Also, as a professor at a music technology university I used to recommend that all of my students purchase this app for ear training purposes. We are now experimenting with a replacement, while sorely missing the old Octave app we all used to rave about : (

Great. Just what I need.

Great!. So far it seems like an awesome app! Very useful for finding feedback. One great addition would be a simple sine wave tone generator so the user could hear the specific tone that they are looking at to see if it is truly the problem spot. Otherwise it's great!

Flashing on iPad. Paying customer here and the program is useless on the iPad. It flashes continuously making it very annoying. Disappointed in that this issue has not been addressed. Do not buy if you intend to use it on your iPad!

Finding feedback. I use this app often and quickly to find feedback during sound check, when I’m working with a mainly analog system. Great little tool.

Great feedback fighter. I use it on my iPhone 6 to quickly pick out resonant notes in my PA system when setting up for a gig, and this app works great for that. The mics on the iPhones and iPads are not calibrated reference microphones, so the app is not accurate for ringing out a room for a perfectly flat response, but for this price I'm very happy. Works great on my iPhone 6, but the screen flickers constantly on my third gen iPad since the latest update. The app is still useable though; the flicker is merely annoying.

It does the job!. I love this app! It definitely does the job! It is practical without being complicated. Reminds me of the old hand held analyzers we had years ago, but it's much better! I like that I can switch from octave to 1/3 to 1/6, also that I can switch from bars to line graph, change the speed, and choose the type of peak indicator I want. And pause it while I make adjustments to my equipment!

Solid RTA. I'm a audio tech who does not have perfect pitch so I use this app all the time (especially when ringing out mics). It's solid. I've tested it with a frequency generator and it's accurate within about 25Hz; which is certainly close enough for me!

Fatal flaw. I would have given it five stars, But the vertical scale being fixed at 6dB/division makes it nearly useless to me. I prefer everything else about this app to its competitors, but the lack of 3dB/step as an option dooms it for me.

Sound guy. This thing used to work, but now blinks all the time. Please fix.

Near perfect.. This app works as well as my $400+ sound analyzer and is much easier to carry and set up. If you work with sound and need to get rid of a little ring or multiple harmonic blends, this app will help.

App flickering after last two updates!. Useful tool, but flashing when it's starting on my iPad!!!

Microphone permission inhibited by screen time app. Be advised that if you have Apple’s Screen Time app turned on it will not let you see this app in the microphone permission list. iPhone 6 IOS 14.6.

Excellent App—Fast Developer Response (Updated). I have used this application and the past and loved it. I had to re-purchase it because I changed the Apple family I’m associated with. Upon opening the app for the first time, it asked me to go to Settings > Privacy > Microphone to grant it access. However, Octave didn’t show up in the list of apps, so I can’t give it access to the mic. Please fix this and I’ll change my review to 5 stars! :) (I’m running iOS 12.1) UPDATE: Da bug iz fixed! Really fast response from the developer. Thanks for such an excellent app! Works perfectly now.

Amazing!. On my iphone5 the gain slider worked but on my iPhone 8 it doesn’t seem to anything behind this or is it on my end?

Favorite RTA app. I use this in the field for quick reference in tuning simple systems. It's far more accurate than other apps I've used and it's simple UI makes my job that much easier and flexible. Great app!

Not bad but could use some enhancement. Works pretty good but would like to change the full color or eliminate it all together as an option. I would also like the see the DB meter reflect actual DB reading. The current DB meter seems pointless.

Works Fine. A good app but screen flash all the time making impossible to work with.

When you just can't find where the feedback is coming from.. It is hand held. Not as accurate as having a specialized device with a mic, but on the fly, it is the best.

RTA Feature. I am an audio engineer for 42 years. I wish this app was available back then, but the technology didn’t exist yet. This app has saved me numerous times when using a console with no real time features. It’s accurate loads and very quick. Everything an engineer needs. I recommend it highly.

Not terrible. Could be better. There are apps out there just as good for free.

Really!!??. This app doesn’t do me a whole lot of good if I can't play a pink noise track from Apple Music while using it now does it? What a disappointment, pitiful reality.

iPhone X not supported. Bought this app when I had a 6, does not work on my X. Does not appear when you go to connect your mic.

Flashing Issue. If you are experiencing the app flashing, try rotating the device on its other side. This has worked for me.

Fast, Responsive RTA. Pin points troublesome frequencies instantly and highlights them in a beautiful interface that is easy to use.

If only.... I love this app... No bells or whistles, it just seems to do what it's supposed to do.... But it flickers on my Gen3 iPad... And it totally annoys me. If it weren't for the defect, and the fact the developers aren't doing anything to fix (despite numerous complaints) I'd have scored it higher

Needs one improvement. This app is amazing I love that it doesn't deny third party software music like others do. Though one thing I say they should improve is the music inside of the headphones than the just whatever makes noise that the microphone can hear

Can’t get to work with IPhone 10. I’ve got some friends with this app works great! I got it on my iPhone 10 won’t work at all...

Albert Phillips. This app works really close to my computer app with a measurement mic I own. I purchased a flat measurement mic (Dayton Audio) (for my iPhone that I can use on the spot with confidence. This avoids a large set up with gear that’s cumbersome to carry around and set up.

Works. Well.. Use the iPhone mic for ringing out monitors. Accurate enough.

App Flashing. As a former audio engineer, I'm impressed with the app, especially considering the price. However, I'm having an problem with this app flashing on and off on my iPAD. When I open the app Octive RTA it begins erratically flashing the entire screen which now makes it unable. From what I understand, this is a handshake problem with iPAD's rotation. Their support offered a quick solution by "turning the iPAD upside down" which worked for me as long as I kept it that way. They also assured me that a fix is coming. Looking forward to that update!

Great Tool!. Great tool for finding feedback frequencies when tuning a monitor system for live applications. Right there when you need it!

Life saver. Accurate, easy, fast, flexible. I've used this both tontine a home stereo's graphic equalizer and to tell an incompetent sound guy where feedback was. Well worth having.

Mic gain adjustment. I used to use this app all the time while doing live audio, but the updates have seem to disable the gain on the iPhone internal app. Total bummer.

Review. Great and fast app for the price, would recommend for audio tech on the go.

Very useful. I used this to tune my car stereo. It identified frequency gaps and helped me set my low and high pass cut offs. Sounds twice as good now. Thanks!

The best iOS RTA available. In my opinion, this is the most powerful (and visually pleasing and simple) on the App Store, and I use it faultlessly on an almost daily basis.

I love it, but .... Perfect RTA software, but, i dont know why after a couple of month of utilisation on my iPad the screen start to blinking and now it's doing it all the time. But it Stills working fine on my iPhone.

Great tool. Using this last night at the start of a three day your. Really like the almost liquid like animation on the waveform display. Works great on both iPhone 5 and the latest iPad. Full screen on iPhone 6 is nice.

Calibration?. The ability to calibrate the app would be nice. Seems to read low frequencies incorrectly on my iPad mini.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. Meticulously developed and engineered in order to deliver an astonishingly well-calibrated, accurate, and responsive tool. Sure, a big expensive microphone hooked up to a big expensive computer running a big expensive program would be better.... but the fact that we now have an iPhone app that can easily rival such a setup for personal use (or even professional use depending on the setting) is simply astounding. This app is a big part of what makes your smartphone as great as it can possibly be. To the devs: Great job - I respect your efforts tremendously, and I thank you for offering your skills for us!

Display unstable & flashes wildly. What a ripoff! It's like some standing at the light switch flicking it off and on. Fix or dump... This wasted my $5!

Just What I Needed. Downloaded the app, plugged a reference mic into my iPad, ran some pink noise through my system and I was accurately tuning in no time. Great app. Why pay $30 for another app when this works great for the price of a cup of coffee?

Blinking. I think this app is very useful but 15 minutes after I started to use it, it started to blink consistently which is very annoying.

Best RTA I have used!!. This app is very easy to use and I use it for every sound design I come up with. However it would be nice to have a calibration feature but other than that it's GREAT!!

Adjustments?. Would be nice to be able to just the SPL ( Y-Axis) and the frequency (X-Axis) since this app does cost $4.99

Simple and effective. It's a simple app that does a decent job. I was very pleased with the sound after using this app to calibrate my studio monitors. It actually works!

Great little app!. The price is right and it does what it says it will do. Calibration would be nice but for $5 it's a steal for a quality RTA.

Great app... ..I still have a few suggestions though: - the horizontal grid should be more "scientific". I like lines at whole numbers like 20, 30, ... 100, 200, ... 1k, 2k and so on. - on the iPhone the display does not rotate. Which is bad when the sound comes from the left (mic is right side). - storage for results would be fine!

Great apps. This app allowed me to locate an offending frequency in a venue I was responsible for the sound reinforcement.

Screen flickers. Screen flickers all the time. Only stops flickering when you bring another menu or screen on top of the rta display. I've tried rebooting and reassigning different inputs but still the same issue. Please fix ASAP, otherwise it's a waste of $5!!!

Works great for me - 10/1/2016. This app works excellent on my iPhone 6 w/ iOs 8.3. The layout is wonderful and it seems relatively accurate. I run a budget live sound company and this app is exactly what I need. Not too much, not too little. No option to change colors of the display, but I'm happy with the look, so it works well for me.

Good RTA. Wish I could weight the curve. Other than that works as described.

Amazing app for the price. I bought this to set the EQ on a stereo I just installed in my truck. I tried some other apps, but this one seemed to work more naturally for me. Even after using a handheld RTA and my laptop with audio software, I just couldn't get the stereo to sound right. I didn't hold much hope for a simple app like this, but it worked brilliantly. I was able to get the stereo sounding much better with this. I am quite blown away. I ended up purchasing the full Spectrum Analyzer suite which includes a pink noise generator as well so I can tune EQs with one app. Totally worth the money.

Setting car audio EQ. I've tried many free RTA apps. Ether they didn't have the features I needed, or haven't been updated for newer iPhones. Gambled 5 bucks and scored! Best RTA app for tuning the EQ in my car against a recommended target curve. I'm very satisfied with the results! Easy to use as well.

Best App for the $. As most of us I look for free apps first. After checking a few out I decided after reading the reviews I would try this one out. Perfect for a quick reference. It works and after all that's all I want.
