s/v Dawn - Indespensible
I just sailed from Chesapeake Bay to NYC. I don't have AIS on my boat, and was concerned about boat traffic in the C&D canal, the Delware river, and Ambrose channel into the Hudson. I DO HAVE cellular service on my Ipad. We remained within 10 miles of the coastline at all times, and this app identified all the freighters, both near us, and I could also look ahead and behind us. I was then able to hail them and discuss course and direction with them. There were a few times we needed to adjust our course a tiny bit, and avoid issues well in advance.
This app was a life saver for our voyage. Even when I upgrade to onboard AIS, I will still use this app to see the freighters that are outside of the VHF line of site range to predict CPA.
Thanks Marine Traffic!!!!
Adjdjdjd - Warning! 16$ app fee is just the start!
I was excited to pay for and download this app just to find that the 16$ I paid for it doesn’t do much. For example I bought a plane tracker app from a different company and the cost for life was 4.99$ which gave me an unlimited number of favorite planes and allows me to track planes wherever they are anywhere I’m the world. Not with marine tracker. Once a ship leaves a coastal area and moves into satellite range (which I think is about 20 miles off the coast) you have to pay 1$ per ship, per day). So say you want to track 3 ships for a month - 90$. You can pay for a monthly rate but only for each action the app does and those but add up pretty fast. For example to add more than 5 ships to you favorites would cost approximately 100$ a year at their best price of 8$ a month billed annually. What about larger packages. Those will cost you in the hundreds of dollars a year. The “pro” plan costs $1,200 a year. I would strongly suggest looking into what you want out of this app before dropping the initial 16$. Very disappointed in this app. It feels like the devs are just trying to milk every dollar out of me they can.
Slugger099 - Not as advertised / does not function / further follow-up was worthless
This app does not do anything more than the publicly available ship tracking websites. None of the information on the app is any better or more up-to-date than those other websites. The app itself does not provide many functions, unless you sign up for an account, which did not function. I was unable to insert my country or state to complete the registration to log-in. I certainly feel like I was duped into paying for an app that doesn’t work.
I received an email asking for further feedback. It sent me to a link to a generic and positively worthless site. I will fully reiterate the complete and total rip-off that this app is and hold Apple responsible for allowing this app to exist.
You clearly have my info. If you legitimately care about feedback, I would be happy to elaborate, but please don’t placate me with insincere and fake emails.
ldels - Glad I took the leap
After using the desk top version of this I decided to download the app. I almost didn’t after reading reviews stating you had to pay for info on each vessel. After downloading I ran into the same issue, HOWEVER there is a super simple fix to see the vessel names/basic stats. For some reason the app does not default to this; but if you go to settings-map options- you will see “vessel names”, you just have to toggle that on and you will be able to see them for free. A few took a few minutes to update but overall it is working just as the desktop version does.
Jmania - Great app with more potential
Updated Quick suggestions to improve app for this user: Make the ship icons on the map more easy to understand (rather than just color and size, change the shape like Plane Finder does - where the shape of the icon shows what type of ship it is). When I tap a ship on the map, show a little pic of it right away rather than just the name. Show a link to web search results for the name so I can easily get more info. Or just allow people to annotate the info like “this is Jerry Jones’ yacht.” Make following and alerts much more easy to use. Fix the bottom bar to work better with the latest iPhones so there’s room for the swipe up bar. Let me set alerts somehow for “interesting ships headed my way.” Thanks!
Docrobert2020 - Nice when it works
We left Florida to go cruising in the Caribbean and had friends and family that wanted to see where we were. I, unfortunately, suggested this app and they all purchased it. Now it RARELY updates my position. For example we spent 3 days in a marina on Great Exuma and it never updated. It updated once when we were sailing off the north coast of the same island. Now after 4 days anchored 9 miles north we have not updated. Other cruisers in the anchorage are showing up.
Keep in mind that we have brand new Vesper AIS and we show up on other cruisers Navionics and WatchMate consistently.
Only answer I got is maybe we need to upgrade to “satellite version “.
This is the response from tech support, “ The lack of Updated Positions of a vessel can be a result of a number of factors.
Signal strength, functional transponder, local (vessel area) and surrounding (nearby stations) weather conditions, temperatures, traffic and the satellite constellation frequency are some of the most important ones.
After checking on this further, I can see as well that your vessel is equipped with a Class B AIS Transponder.
Please note that the above information is especially true for vessels equipped with a Class B AIS Transponder as their signal may be weaker.
viking621956 - Your recent update seems to have turned off the ability to filter vessels...
Right now I am using this app to track a single vessel on which I will soon be taking a cruise. I used to be able to filter out all other vessels as a default. Now with your recent update, while I can still do this, it doesn’t stay that way and all vessels keep on coming back. This clutters up the map a bit, and it is annoying to constantly have to go back and reset this filter.
Other than that this is a great app and I enjoy it very much. Thank you.
Winjama - Tracking Made Easy!
I’m an old Navy Radarman from before everything was computerized. This software has revolutionized the ocean shipping industry as far as being able to keep track of vessels of concern. I know we could have used this as an additional tool that would have proven itself in short order. I live in Belize and like to track the vessels coming down here from Florida so I can keep track of where items might be at that I’ve purchased and shipped down. It makes for a fun hobby too - kinda like train spotting used to be.
empuje - Paid $.99/day for better tracking and no good
My son is on a ship sailing around the world and when the ship is out of range, it isn’t traceable. Ok, fine. But then they started offering $.99/ day for out of range tracking and it does not update. I’ve paid for 4 days of tracking and it hasn’t updated distance traveled at all. It shows the location of ship when you pay the $.99 but never again. Very frustrating. While it’s only $.99 it’s not giving us what was promised. I’d like my money back.
Ssg dégagé - Great for Cruises
Love using this app while on cruises. Fun to find out more about the ships around me, and there is a wealth of information on the ships. I just use the app for fun and feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface of the features, but it’s easy to use and the augmented reality interface is pretty cool even if it doesn’t always seem to get the location right (very difficult given that these ships are moving). Have really had a good time with this app. If you’re going on a cruise, this is worth every penny, as is the AR upgrade.
Ghettomedic909 - Cool app
Really cool App, gives you a general idea of the Vessels around you. But not all vessels you can gather information on or give the exact location of them.
Also even when you pay the $5 dollars some features like vessel tracking require you to pay an extra dollar to unlock.
For $5 bucks you can’t go wrong for an App. I would rate this as more of a fun toy while on vacation or on the water rather than a hardcore navigator life or death tool to use on the water. None the less 5 stars for me.
jshawngentle - Track Vessels In Water Near You!
This app enables you to track vessels anywhere in the world but especially in waters where you’re familiar or active. It’s up there with flight aware in aircraft tracking tail numbers. Way too much public information out there but you might as will take advantage of it -this is really cool. Suggestion- get a VHF radio and use in conjunction with this app. You’ll learn tons and can use to teach your children or grandchildren or simply to navigate and stay out of the way!
Belcuore - Fun, educational. Track your ships!
I love cruising and traveling but I also live near a busy port and I love knowing what’s coming in and out and where in the world are my favorite ships located. I’d wish they would feature the complete scheduled and travelled route before and after of, let’s say, a cruise. It seems it only tells you the last port and next future port. Also it tells you the name and flag of the ship, tonnage, dead weight but it will not tell you the company the ship belongs to or how many passengers it can hold so I took off one star for that. Otherwise, I love it!
Learnin' Fast - Good app - extra features don’t work between devices, though
Works pretty well, aside from slow vessel updates at times. . . Also, big peeve is failure of feature upgrades to work between devices. For example, I upgraded to nautical chart option on my iPad, expecting to see it in effect on my other devices - phone, laptop, office machine, and so on - as well. But it only works on the one device. That stopped me upgrading anything else. If I pay for an account and purchase an upgrade it should work on all my devices!
AJLethem - Confusing, Annoying, and not user friendly
The cool thing about this app is you get real-time information about boats, ships, yachts, etc. Here is what is frustrating, I have to pay in order to view a specific ship and it only lasts 24 hours. There is no “renew” button and so one is forced to guess which ship you want to view and pay if you want to continue. There should be a “Renew” purchase option or something. I also have to keep logging in over and over and over again. I’ve logged in 3 or 4 times just in the one session, even when I didn’t close the app.
Meakibble - Great Ap for Tracking
I got this ap on a whim because there was a ship parked off the coast and I was curious what it was and what it was doing. This ap is amazing. You can see, worldwide, what boat traffic is at sea or in port. Look at Monaco and see the super yachts, Or look in your local port and find out what Ships are dropping off goods. Always fun to see and use. The $.99 tracking is an option as are some other adons but this is a great ap and a must have for any maritime enthusiast.
Surewin4me - Pricing to correct.
The app is really great I was using find my ship. With subscription on yearly basis. I bought this one at $4.99 as one time payment and there was a pop up for Access plus 24 for $0.99 bought them as it doesn’t show any further detail like it is valid only for 24 hours after purchase only came to know it is valid only for 24 hours. I like that to be refunded and please correct that. It is like a insurance catch. Make it transparent and it makes the buyer to buy without any hassle.
Donnabea - Worth every cent!
My parents have a cottage on Lake Huron in Michigan. We can see freighters and other boats out in the distance but not close enough to see their names and other details. Just open the app and you can find out what freighter or boat it is, see pictures, see where they are coming from and going and much more. It's great for anyone that likes boat and freighter watching especially if you live on the water.
msklmall - You’ve ruined my favorite app
As a frequent cruise who lives by the sea, Marine Traffic was my favorite go-to app to see where I was on the open sea, or find out what ships were nearby. I don’t want to follow 1 ship for 24 hours, that’s not how I use the app. I know there are other cruisers out there who are in a similar position. Please let us go back to our casual use of the app, seeing the ships that are in the area. I’m sorry I updated the app to this version and in its current version it is of no use to me.
5wa - Access plus 24 is misleading. Charges for each ship
Prior to Marine Traffic’s Access Plus 24 you could click on a ship and open the overview for free. This was a click look at the ship name, tonnage and few more data points. Yesterday, I clicked on the ship, opened the more >, but Access Plus was on next screen to purchase. Didn’t tell you I’m anything else. Had no idea what this was. I purchased and saw the details and more on the ship. Close this, go back to Marine Traffic, and click on another ship. I get the Access Plus 24 screen to our purchase. Odd, I had just done this but did it again. I was charged.
So you get charged for every ship you want to look see.
Where Marine Traffic provided a quick look at the ship where the name was most important factoid, now you can’t see anything! Now you get charged for every ship you want to know more about, such as name, tonnage, next port.
Charging for every ship and not telling you is downright wrong. Go back to the way it was.
Jones Point - No Longer Useful.
Marine traffic was once a useful, and for some, indispensable tool. With the recent “update” you now have to pay daily to see the name/position of one vessel. Seeing unnamed vessels on the screen is not worth the original price paid for the app and certainly not worth the daily extortion money MarineTraffic is demanding now. The point of AIS is to have a better idea of who you are dealing with out there before you meet them. Extremely disappointed with this new development and I would no longer recommend this once great app to anyone. I would request a refund if I thought they would actually grant one.
FunToPlayGames - Greedy Company
I already paid for the app itself. Then theres extra fees if I want to use certain features? Last I checked, that’s not how it’s supposed to work. So now here I am with a paid app, yet I can’t access vessel information without paying for satellite radar. Then you have to pay for weather readings. Then you have to pay for navigation charts. Then you have to pay for augmented reality. What’s next? Are you going to start charging when you to fart while the app is open? Only reason I got this app was because I was vacationing on the coast while ship watching and I was stoned. Otherwise I never would’ve paid the initial app fee!
iota1 - Ever wonder what that ship is?
Ever see a ship in the harbor and wonder where it came form? Or where it’s going? Or what its name is and what country it’s from? All your questions and more are answered with this app. Including questions like “I wonder what other ships are going to be passing by.” And “Uncle Mike and Aunt Sandy are on that cruse. I wonder what port they’re at right now?” Or you can just geek out on how many fishing vessels are off the cost of Alaska.
"""""@&$)(;:/'bdhebe - Works well
Got this to spot traffic out on the Mississippi for fun. But it came in real handy when my Mom went on a cruise and we could track her progress as tropical storms changed their schedule down in the Caribbean.
The quality of the app is good. I mean it does what you want it to do. If we lived somewhere with major shipping traffic I would seriously consider getting the overlays.
Hawk33 - Now Completely Useless
When I first started using MT several years ago, it was a great resource. What I saw out my window was exactly what I saw on the app. The information was accurate and timely, and the app was a lot of fun.
For whatever reason, the timeliness and reliability of the information in the app has gotten continually worse, to the point now that none of the ships I see in port now are represented accurately in the app.
With the latest update, I'm now getting generic titles like "yacht" or "cargo ship", and when I click on them, I'm redirected to some paid app ($150+ per year!) that I will never buy. This never used to be the case.
The several times I've written to ask for help, I've been told that the problems were all on my end and that there's nothing wrong with the app.
So, all that said, I am done with Marine Tracker, and will be deleting it from my device. It used to be a lot of fun, but it's all but completely useless now. A shame.
RL Ironman - Love this App!!!
I have used this app on at least three phones now and I love it. The one feature I wish they would fix is the issue where the AIS feature works well on wifi, but seems to have issues on cellular. This could be the cellular network blocking something, but this didn't used to be a problem with earlier versions of the app.
Jeff@Enchante - Tracking our boat
We are using marine traffic to track our boat while the charter agency repositions it from Annapolis to the Caribbean. It has worked perfectly, Providing us instant information on the location, direction, speed and route of the boat. It also has alerts for activities such as leaving and entering ports. We are really enjoying the app.
Wand'rin Star - Not AIS but the next best thing
As a sailor I use this app often when moored. It gives a good picture of the traffic in whatever location we happen to be in. They have improved the app greatly so it is very useful and could serve as a backup if our onboard AIS system failed as long as we could we receive a wifi or cell signal.
SparticKIS - Pay to get the app and then pay some more!
I bought this app for my work. It’s been great for the last several years, but I’ve noticed they want me to pay more now for other features. Raise the price upfront maybe but I feel like putting in app purchase after I already bought the app isn’t right. I have other apps that did the same thing but they grandfathered everyone who had the app already. This app is just out to get more money. Oh well.
cfreet - Good app, a few issues
This is a really good app with a couple issues. I’m using the free version and it keeps forgetting my fleet (only 2 boats, so hard to understand why that happens). Some of the best features like tracks are hard to find in the UI. But all in all this is a great app, esp for free. I will probably upgrade to the premium version at some point.
KatChrissy - Sinking Ship
Once upon a time, this app showed ACTUAL live locations, now, to get anything beyond “you can see the updated location when we let you see the updated location” you get to pay for it! After already paying for the app!
Don’t worry, it’s only 99 cents every 24 hours! So if you live on a ship 8 months out of the year and are interested in tracking your location or time to your port, I guess you can go * yourself (thanks, how kind of you).
Save the “you’re still able to see it” line because, while TECHNICALLY true, once every “whenever marine traffic decides” is not remotely live nor is it close to being a reliable tracker, so you may want to update your bull * description to something that’s actually honest and stop deceiving these people.
This is a complete joke for anyone who depends on tracking vessels and should ONLY be used for leisure or hobbyists. Pathetic.
Sushi Snob - Hard to read, slow to update
On my iPad, the text giving vessel name and current information is very small and hard to read. If you zoom by spreading your fingers the text doesn’t get bigger, or stay bigger long enough to read. I can’t find settings or options to address this.
Oddly, Marine Traffic on my iPhone has bigger text and is readable.
Also, updates occur infrequently, 3-4 + hours or more, even for local traffic.
Deepstops - Useful and fun
Long time user (since about 2009) - my only complaint is it will no longer allow me to modify the ships in my fleet even though I’m signed in. I use this app all the time to track my friends who crew on yachts and cruise ships. I also use it to see what cruise ships are in specific ports. Living in SFL, it's busy on the weekends.
Sue in Gig Harbor - Almost perfect
I would give this application a five except for the fact that vessels that have long since passed by my house remain on the map as a lighter shadow of a boat hours after they’re gone, which is a little annoying.I would like to see them enhance the app so that I can set an alarm that will go off when a particular vessel is within close range of my house.
fl_cyclist - Was good
I have used this app for years. Living on the Atlantic and doing cruises this was really a nice tool to see what boats were going by and where my cruise was. Recently since they put in the Access24 very little of the information is accurate sometimes days old. The developer says they did not change anything just gave better options for SAT access. Well that may be their song but this app went from 5 stars to 2 after this change and will probably be deleted
RonHarsh - Downhill
I’ve had this app for several years. I just spent a month in the Caribbean and was very disappointed in the performance! It use to work a lot better but this trip it didn’t even show ships docked at the next pier! At sea I could see ships around me and they didn’t even show up on the app! Most of the time at sea it couldn’t find me or my ship or if it did it reported its position a day earlier. But Google could locate me all the time! Then there’s that damm offer to show more info for $.99/day! BS! If you want/need a service fee than offer an upgrade!
densmore bay - What was 5 stars is now 2
All of a sudden, as others have been starting to point out, you now can’t get information on traffic that who’s position is being reported by satellite without a paying a new 99 cent fee. I’m on the St. Lawrence river and all I want to know is the name, where it’s going and the type of ship. I don’t want to track it for 24 hours. I just did a casual search of the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario and many are now using Satellite. So, an APP that I recommended to many is now on my don’t buy list.
Mrsa1801 - Lake Michigan
The app is useful in identifying the maritime traffic I so often see from the shore of Lake Michigan. The app has routes, wonderful photographs, and useful settings. Lately, I am no longer able to learn the distance from my location and many more ships are slipping past that aren't showing up on the app. It's remarkable how many ships there are traveling the waterways of the entire world using this app.
plock1997 - Lots of thought in the app, but critical bugs, too
A lot of thought and work has gone into this app, but it can be frustrating to use because of glaring defects.
1. Can’t upload photos. I get a “image must be at least 800 x 600” error, but these are high resolution photos from my iPhone X. They’re much larger than that.
2. I can only create one fleet and can only add 5 vessels to that fleet, although I’ve only learned the latter through trial and error—the app does not provide any feedback when you try to add more than 5. It also doesn’t provide any upgrade path to go beyond that limit. At least not one that I was able to find after 15 minutes.
Definitely a neat app, but for a $5, I would expect fewer issues and a larger fleet limit.
NCPete - Enjoy the app
I enjoy using this app, works well and has been accurate for me. I wish the app would send you notifications if vessels of a specified type or size are within 5 miles of you location. Such a feature would help me catch a few more of larger ships on the Cape Fear.
player j - If you live near the water...
you'll love this app. We live on the Chesapeake Bay, near the Atlantic, and it's really interesting to get all the info on ships and large boats that come in and out of Norfolk,VA. I'm tracking some ships all over the world (my fleet!) and it really exciting to actually see them come in/out of port. Very interesting and educational app.
Walter Koenig - Good, could be better
I really like this app is it shows most chips in Port and also their movement. It gives details for most trips including photographs. What I don't like is that not all ships are shown and that one can only track three ships with a regular subscription. This should be expanded to at least 10 ships. Still, or useful app which I enjoy using.
chiefdwh - We love this app.
We have spent many hours using this app and share it constantly. Since we live on a busy river near a shopping lane we often use it to see where a ship is going/coming from and learn its details. It’s great for the family as a learning tool to explore the world.
RickyBobby - Layman's thoughts
I'm a landlubber but ocean bound travel and business logistics has always fascinated me. I am amazed by the volume of info in this app. The alerts are nice, but the # of ships you can track is limited, unless you pay more. I added the worlds largest icebreaker and worlds largest container ship to my fleet, as well as a ship that transports oil rigs.
LDbooks - What happened to this app?
This was a useful app to view what ships are nearby. Now suddenly there is a .99 charge to look at a ship for 24 hours?🤨 Is it .99 per ship? Is it .99 per day to look at one ship or any ships? I already paid for this app once and enjoyed it but this is too much. 👎🏻
Joekodak - Fun App for Florida Residents
This is a fun app since I live in FL and see lots of vessels it’s fun to see them at a distance and be able to know what they are, what they look like, where they are going. I’ve seen all sorts of vessels, even a few submarines near Port Canaveral. I just wish the vessels and locations were more real-time.
Pathfinder2400 - Nice App for Tracking Ships
This app is really nice for anyone with family working in the maritime industry. It is comforting for those back home to know where their loved one’s ship is located. Cost is prohibitive to use the app for anything else. Wish it allowed more than 30 notifications per month. These don’t really cost the company anything to provide.
GB553 - Great app
Use it to track shipping in front my home on the Great Lakes (st Clair river) from all over the world. Tells ship information , speed direction and ETA to my location. Pictures of the ship and tracking are a plus. Great value. Much more than I expected. I will be using it in Aruba this winter.
Keithseagle1 - Slow refresh
This app is pretty good for checking and seeing which vessels are around you at one time. I haven’t been able to find out how to constantly update the positions though. Many times a vessel will stay at the same spot until I close out of the app and come back in.
CoolRegman - From Great to Sad
This was, for years, one of my my all time favorite apps. Five stars. I enjoyed looking at the ships as I traveled literally around the world. But not now. You can still see the icons. Want to see what the icon is? The developer removed the ability to actually see a ship of interest. It was replaced with “Access Plus 24” which allows you to, after paying $1, see one (1) ship -only- for only 24 hours. Want to see more ships, or ships for longer timeframe? Pay up. Sad, really.

Assassins creed boss - A total disappointment
I purchased Marine Traffic for the explicit and sole reason to track my family on their Pacific Aria cruise from Brisbane to Vanuatu. So far the app shows the ship having been stationary for 17 hrs, 20 nm off the coast, after leaving port 4 hrs earlier. This is despite the app saying that the vessel is doing 17 knots!
A disappointing waste of money.
yachtgal - Could be improved but still ok
I use this app to track the boats my partner is on when he delivers them around australia. It would be great to nominate 1 boat which, when you open the app, it tells you instantly where that boat is..At the moment I open the app, locate the boat from the fleet, click and wait to see. When I choose to track just one boat all I need is to see the last position and info for that boat only... If I want to see all boats in the area or a fleet then I would click on buttons to open those screens.
Phree_ed - Pretty good app, worth the money.
It's not bad. Limited by how often ships are either broadcasting their location or within range of where they can be picked up it seems. Also a bit buggy. Sometimes ships in My Fleet list are not recognised even when I'm signed in. Shutting the app down and restarting or logging out and logging back in fixes that.
It would be good if ship details popped open when the ship icon is tapped rather than having to tap again to get those details IMHO.
Actually the more I use it the more I wish I hadn't bothered. Pity it doesn't work like FlightRadar24. Ship positions can be days out of date hich is worthless.
Watermelon_olivia - Yep, it's a flop
The yacht I've been tracking has been moored for 2 days.
My search puts the vessel on a point on last track, every time.
The vessel is away again, the Cat B AIS has always been on and this waste of money app still says the yacht is on a past track.
Having said this, confusingly, the app did show the yacht at its present mooring !? And, it does show other vessels tracking along, accuracy would be doubtful give app's performance.
You would be better off getting in row boat and trying to follow or better still, take the pecos to the pub.
LMYC M9 - Unreliable at Best
We just sailed from Newcastle to Hobart and found that we were tracked well until Bass Strait and then poorly. It appeared to those watching we did 7 knots + across the strait BACKWARDS
Not so funny for those at home when it appeared we were rendezvousing with a cruise ship in the middle of the Strait giving rise to concerns about medical emergencies etc. In Tasmania we have frequently been missing for several days at a time.
Unreliable information is not always better than none.
Kumentjae - Marine traffic
Good app, I have used it internationally also.
It does fail dismally when trying to follow yacht races, they all have their radio turned on, but only about half of the fleet are on screen.
7 August 2019
Racing yacht Black Jack 100 is still being shown as moored in Sydney NSW Australia.
Your information is more than 2 months out of date.
She has currently raced from Brisbane to Airlie and was second in line honours.
She would certainly have been in radio contact. She is possibly on her way back to her Brisbane base.
What went wrong, can you please update?
AIF - Australia - MarineTraffic Review
I am overall happy with this App and the information provided. AIS coverage seems to be good for our Port (Fremantle WA), but it would be nice to have full time access for satellite positioned shipping (information/telemetry) at no extra cost; or at a reasonable once-off fee (not subscriptions).
Access Plus 24 at $1.49 per day for 1 vessel - laughable.
Apart from the App sometimes freezing in the photo gallery section (iPhone/iPad), it seems reliable. Also positioning can sometimes appear many hours old, but still remains displayed.
Throw in all satellite positioned shipping and I would rate it more than 4 stars.
As is, a good product that I use frequently.
CoomsbunnyRay - Marine Traffic
I have used this app on a daily basis for years now, initially my fascination was to track the world wide travels of car carriers and now take a more general interest about the general freighter industry. What a fascinating industry, one thing I would like to better understand is the volumes of cargo that go round the world but doubt if a data base would exist for this.
Aussie Georgie - Great
Love tracking ships on this ap. Most times it is up to date and being able to see the route taken over the last 24 hours adds interest.
Fidsplice - OK. Limited by circumstances beyond its control
The interface would benefit by a bit of smarts. If the vessel is underway and the location doesn’t change for some time then either the vessel has sunk! Call the coastguard! Or you haven’t picked up a recent signal. Note that vessel as position uncertain. That’d be smart!
Elata1965 - COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER APP
This is a very informative app that gives you information on maritime movements anywhere in the world. It works every time, I could not ask for a better app.
Lombok dude - DO NOT BUY. A total rip-off
I bought the app to track a boat I often work on.
It doesn’t work. It’s always weeks or sometimes months since the last position update.
They expect you to pay $1.49 just to track 1 boat for 24 hours.
There’s 3 boats I work on so they expect me to pay $4.47 a day or $1,631 a year just to track them and this is after I paid for the app.
Like I said total rip-off and not useful at all for tracking boats.
Maslud - Stay away from access plus
Ship positions are very old, for example 22 hours old. You can purchase access plus to get the updated position which they have but don’t apply it. So I purchased access 24 thinking it applied to ALL ships. Na, 1.49 for just one ship. Now that a rip off. So they have the updated position of ships but won’t pass that on unless you pay 1.49 a ship. Want to know where you can shove this program?
Squizza590 - Great app but sometimes updates are days apart unless you pay a little extra.
Use this app all the time but lengthy updates are frustrating and have to pay extra to get a satellite position.
Ceenbejay - Too limited for use without paying more
It (probably) has great capability but unless you pay the premium you won’t get much. Limited fleet options, limited information. I bought the basic app but every time I occasionally want to know a bit more about a vessel it wants another $1.49 for just 24 hrs access.
Aussie Burger 1955 - App I can’t live with out.
I have been using this app for the last five years it does have some sessions every now and then, I am in Australia and a member of the world shipping society in Melbourne very useful and handy when following ships around the world.
Rob Hands - First Class App
Truly a sensational app and use it every single day I’m at work to find out where our crew change will be. Very handy tool. Well done to the developers.
B-salty - Paid for app, now wants more $$
Paid for the app, but now asking for more money to track yachts which feels feels like a rip off. Thanks but no thanks. Steer clear.
DZoperator - Paul
App has serious problems which make it useless, for instance, the position data for a vessel I'm following is now more than 24hrs out of date. The app sent me alerts that the vessel had berthed then left 12 hrs later but the they are charted in a day old position a long way from the port. This happens over and over- conclusion, the app is not worth using because it is misleading and erroneous.
Nannie nanni - Keeping Track
Love it. Helps me see where friends and family are. Also let’s them know where we are
Arseword6969 - We find it Ok
We are not experts in this area but we have used it quite a lot and we find it very easy to use and would recommend it.
It tells us all we want to know.
TasSalt - Marine Traffic review
A great app that gives so much information, not only good vessel updates, notifications but also geographics. It is Enjoyable to use.
Imcm2 - Mr Mac
If you live on the coast, a must have ap for fun & info on almost all craft at sea. A friend uses it on an island to track the ferry that picks him up to come to the mainland. A great must have.
SV MR - Buggy
This app could be really good, but is full of irritating bugs. One in particular is trying to add ships to my fleet. Sometimes it will add a ship and other times not. I have been trying to add a friend we are Sailing with for 2 weeks and it just won’t a them to my fleet. Not a cheap app. Vessel finder is another good free choice.
Pjohn78.. - Layers Don’t Remain
How do I keep the layered options I’ve set for vessels? Every time I enter my preference and click the tick to confirm, they remain, but only whilst I’m viewing in that session. Would be great for them to remain whilst I have the app installed. Is this at all possible?
Was-dubious not now - Excellent app.
Easy to use, plenty of information.
Random thought...would it be possible to calculate and display a line showing an estimate of the apparent horizon to show if a vessel should be visible.
Richardhc - Excellent
Everything you need for marine traffic info. Easy to use, fast, complete.
shaunnaugh - A very handy app
I find this app very handy, I can show offical I have AIS, I can look for friends in the surrounding areas & look a boat names
Trooper63 - Excellent Marine App
Constantly use this at work to identify other vessels. Couldn’t work without it!
strandvlooi - Info out of date since upgrade
Since the upgrade position information is now hours out of date rather than a few minutes old. Please fix or roll back upgrade.
absolutely dissapointed still - Delayed tracking
Bought this app some time back and have used it regularly and have been very happy with the function.
After the last update I seem to have lost the real time performance.
Can be up to 10-12 hours old.
Rendering the app next to useless for me.
Datadatadata - Satellite tracking should be free or part of a subscription
I’d give this app 5* if it didn’t cost $1.49 a day just to track a ship that only in satellite range.
Peter the Great no 2 - Great App
This is a great app which I use frequently to check on shipping in our harbour. Highly recommended!
Doug from Perth - Really enjoy.
Really enjoy this great app. Useful and have yet to see it crash. Thoroughly recommend it.
kosh32 - Stops working after a few notifications
You buy it, but soon it stops giving updates. They send you to an outside website to make more purchases, otherwise it stops notifying.
No in-app purchase offered.
I gave up. Seems like a scam.
paulp_oz - Great app
Accurate and informative. Great to see a vessel and to use the app to identify it and the details.
Snoopdolks - Do not buy this
Paid, downloaded and followed a journey of a family member which worked beautifully for 24 hours. Then, the prompts turned up to pay $1.25 for 24 hours of satellite coverage and the app became utterly useless. Back to a browser which is free and accurate.
reviewed as i see it - Expensive for irregular user
Paid for it then found its a monthly subscription, not annual. Got caught out with this one as I only used it to follow one boats travels.
Ransomed Heart podcast conversations - Interesting and helpful
I enjoy tracking ships and other registered vessels in ports when I visit their cities.
Difficult to reset the location.
Zooshi sushi bombooshi - Waste of 7 dollars
The basics of the app are all there but it doesn't track in real time , if you want to follow a boat forget about it, its only good for updating the boats position at the end of the day, I purchased it to follow friends on a voyage and it's no good for that .
williambaillieu - App just wants more money every time I look at a boat
Can’t figure out how to get basic information about boats that are showing. The App wants more money every time I ask for details of boat.
Waste of time,
Litchking - A huge rip off
Day after day I pay $1.49 extra to see 24 hours of live position reports. Several days pass and only one update report of position. I purchased this app to follow my son at sea on a delivery of a yacht. I have given up and deleted this app as its hopeless’n
John5ydney - East Coast Australia
I wanted to track my yacht as it’s being delivered from Sydney to Hamilton Island. This app was fine at first around Sydney but then the updates because very far in between. I’m talking days between updates. I can track the yacht nicely on some other AIS trackers that are free, so it’s not the loss of signal !!! WOFTAM
Nycknayme - Great app.
Very handy for identify ships, etc. Gives all sorts of information and photos. Works all around the world.
unoriganalnickname - Disappointed
Was a good app until started needing payment to see certain information on vessels, now asking for payment to see any information about vessel other than type of vessel.
GordoMac57 - Gordon
Great app for Ship fans , up to date interesting factual information .
Peg007 - Great product
Easy to use
Audrylove - It’s now a pay to follow App
The only way to follow a particular craft is to pay for 24 hours of satellite, if you don’t know exactly which craft it is it’s a guessing game that cost $1.25 for every guess. Stupid changes that have made this app useless to me
Seawindow - Now completely useless
Now that the app has a significant lag time on position reports (unless you pay per view) this has rendered Marine Traffic completely impractical and has freed up space on my iPhone. What a shame.
Able Anglers Pty Ltd - Disappointing
Read other reviews thought I would give benefit of the doubt. Unable to register unable to track specific ships due to not being logged in which I can not do.

Paul smith7 - Boats boats boats
Great app for boats. Info is the best. Love the weather report on lot of the ships.
Housesparkler - Notifications
It’s pretty sad that I paid for the app but only get notifications for one day then have to pay for them.
Wholstories - Free full website better.
Unless you need a mobile version, nothing gained by purchasing the app. I find myself using the website on my phone instead of the app.
And don’t expect to gain anything with the app, other than a nice interface.
mnbvcxzxxxggujj - Junk !
This app is pure junk. I purchased it and it does not work in and around Atlantic Canada. And there’s a ‘built in ‘ extra fee ... and that’s a scam ... be aware.
Zacksor - There is a push to purchase
I gave a poor review since there has been a push to purchase premium access on a daily basis - often without any new updated information details.
Thumpf - Useless without the $$$ subscriptions
$30+ in monthly subscriptions to even make it work. I'm sitting in a port with a dozen large boats running AIS on all sides of me and none of them show up on the app.
app pas bonne - marine traffic
payer 8.04$ et ca vaut rien tout est payant ne pas acheter ne pas gaspiller votre argent
AndreTheGeek - WARNING - They changed it after I bought it
I paid something like $7 for the app. It worked well for a while. I considered it a good app.
Now to get recent updates on a ship's position, it wants more money each time. Someone went overboard with greed.
They changed the pricing model AFTER we already paid. Now to use the app I already paid for, they are extorting more money.
Now the app is useless unless I give them more money each time I want to look up a ship.
Any company that would this deserves to not get anyone's business. It’s a scam to charge to use an app I already paid for, and was working fine.
I want my money back. And I’m very angry that Apple allows this.
lottisluv - Great for Cruise Ship tracking
We use this app to track which Alaskan cruises are coming by our house in the summer. Works great and ETA to your location is within 5 mins of being accurate!
navja red - MarineTraffic
J’aime beaucoup MarineTraffic !
Willy Dustice - Garbage, why? $1.39 tracking/per vessel?
You might as well make this another monthly subscription app for all the nickel and dime-ing you push. Anything offshore will cost you to identify, and ONLY that vessel, and ONLY for 24hrs. You can get all this information for free online - what a scam. SCAM!!!
aisship - Ais
Very poor app i paid for the app and it does not give ship information..
Denis ENGR - Family sharing is not according to description
I have a family group , but unfortunately my family members cannot install you app for free according family plan description up to 6 members and when we r trying to install the app it asking for $6.99 why?
Please advice what is the matter can be.
Lofu93 - Awesome app!!
Love the app. Keeping track of my friends on the water
capnloonie - Where is customer support!?
Hello, trying to de activate my subscription as I got charged even after I ended my 7 day free trial. There is no customer support and website lacks this. Please reply to this so I can get this dealt with. Thanks.
- Love this app
One of the best app for ship’s tracking.
Marty9064 - Great tool.
I am a boat watcher and photographer. I know what time boats will be coming into my area. And also if they will be stopping in my port. The app is full of very helpful features. I have also posted photos that I have taken. I have the pleasure of being Station 4205.
Brusterj - Comment
Very convenient for my photography hobby. Thanks
EXIFnil - Close to Perfect
This app is one of the best in its class. Close to unimproveable and I hope they don't try.
Captaintawfik - Tracking history
Tracking history should be one month minimum
Do it pls
Olsewide - HS
I have eyes on the water from my own living room or wherever I am with my cell phone or iPad.
Beatha's Captain - My Fleets
For some reason I can’t create a fleet called “Ships I’ve Boarded” but only “Ships of Interest” and I find that limitation to be annoying.
suemoir - Address
I have tried numerous times to register and am unable to put my province on the page with my info!
Unh 'app' y - App issues
Hmmm... thought this was a good app when I saw it on another’s phone. DL’ed it a few days ago. Unfortunately, it has one ship I follow misnamed, and old data from passing ships stays on the screen for up to a day at least, even after hitting refresh. Not what I expected... will give it some time, but may not keep the app. It is too bad, I want it to work.
Steve911b - Trouble since update
The MT app does not work well on my iPad since the last update. Tech support were not able to help. Disappointing.
Vie775 - Très bien...
J’aime beaucoup cet application qui nous donne beaucoup d’informations. Il lui manque le nombre de passagers et d’équipage pour les bateaux de croisière. Merci de faire le nécessaire pour les ajouter.
Hidden Cougar - Single Malt
What a marvellous program!
skidoo2017 - MarineTraffic
Cow face - Good experience
Fast refreshing and easy to navigate.
On iPhone X models the app doesn’t exit efficiently. There are zoom in and out options at the bottom of the screen. Make it hard to close the app, without panning the map all over the place.
Whatnicknameisnttaken123456789 - Scam
I bought this app and it used to work. Now you gotta pay to view any vessel on top of the price you already paid. This is very unethical I would like a refund.
ghepburn - Bad business
The app itself seems quite good. The problem, as others have posted, is that it will not update vessel locations. It appears that this is withheld pending further payment on top of the $6.99 you’ve already paid. If this were a free app, the extra payments would be understandable. This is a paid app and shouldn’t be hobbled in this way. The business plan sucks and makes customers angry.
McCamper25 - Pay for the app then pay for ship updates
It’s really upsetting. Originally I was able to get updates on the ships my brothers are on, now you have to pay for the app and then have to pay for access to get ship locations which only last for 24 hours, a complete rip off!
#Captain Gramps - Greatest
Best app for accuracy! Ten Stars
ice and nice - Ice breaker
I like to know who is passing in front
of our house
fearlesspaul - App is useless after changes in last 4-6 months
Unless you are willing to pay outrageous amounts of extra fees, this app has become pretty much useless.
gilles the brain - No more good
Now you need to pay to have an update of the ship for 24 hours at 1.39$,for 24hrs, if not, the update of your tracking ship it’s to long 1 day and 16 hrs in my case, no sense, why they don’t have a package same as flight radar24, around 45,00$ for a year, for the full version? Note, I already pay for this application to have better option when I take it. Not recommended any more.
PleaseStopNagging - Agreement Changed AFTER I Fully Paid - RIP OFF ALERT
How would you feel if you fully paid for a brand new car, brought it home, then some time later the dealership came and painted over the windows so that you couldn't see out ? Then the dealership tells you that they will remove the paint if you pay more money ? Rendering the car useless. This is what MarineTraffic.com did to this app. I fully paid the asking price then some time later they disabled it, rendering it absolutely useless, requiring you to pay for ship information which I had already been receiving for the fairly high original price of the the app I had already agreed to pay. RIP OFF. Do not trust this developer.
Dmichok - Enjoy this app
Great app. Enjoy being able to identify vessels as they pass by. I do not appreciate the in app purchases that only last 24 hours.
Tugnuts - Greedy
They keep asking for more and more money and it doesn’t ever work that well... really sick of this app
EasternOntarioTransitFan - Amazing App!!
This app is superb, thank you to the creators for doing such a great job, on creating this app!! Part of my daily commute is near a main waterway, and I see massive ships, and always take a picture, and when I get to my destination, I'll check the app, and it'll give me all the info I need to know about the ship!! So thank you!! 😊😊😁😁👍👍 Keep up the great work!!
Clapsam - Don’t Buy, Wast of Time
Buying the app does not give you access to vessel information, you will be asked for more money if you want vessel details. Complete waste of time and money
77Sherwood - More money?
Why does it ask me for more money when i try to locate the ship? I paid for the app but it seems to want more money. It also doesn't let me find the ship i am looking for.
C//M - Not impressed
Having to pay to look at a boat is very unprofessional. You buy the app you should have access to what you need. I’m trying to track a vessel coming into port. Each day I’m paying 1.30 tax to look at her most recent location. Very stupid.
Airdrievictor - Scam ware
Stay away used to be good not anymore. I paid for the app now it wants you to pay for each ship info for 24 hours. I feel ripped off and let down.
intnl flyer - 24 hour unlock
I paid for a 24 hour unlock to track a boat in my fleet and it never showed where it was. It’s crap and a rip off the charge.
Sea cargo - Annoying Advertising
Having bought the app I didn’t expect to be constantly bombarded with advertising for the $38/month satellite service. Other pop ups about how I can “learn more” about other purchases are also irritating. I should be able to turn these sales pitches off having viewed them once.
mtdinyvr - Use it all the time
Love it. We use it all the time from wherever we are.
Dar1966 - A Detroit River Must
Understand all the boats on the Detroit River navigating the Great Lakes!

@bolzano76882535 @Oded121351 Not sure about the specific website, it looks like one of the rivals of MarineTraffic I would say. You probably know more about ship tracking than I do.
The tale of 2 tankers & the art of sanctions-busting
Great reporting here by @NoamRaydan for @EnergyFuse, using ship tracking data from @MarineTraffic & intel from our friends at @TankerTrackers
