Was good, recent update made it useless.. This app used to be good for what I needed it for, which was seeing the names of ships near me (I work on ships and frequently need to do this for various reasons). Now, the app doesn’t show any vessel names unless you specifically search for a specific vessel, even when the “vessel names” option is checked. Furthermore, the app used to show you a picture of the vessel for free, which is very useful if you have to visit a specific ship and you don’t know what it looks like. Now when you tap on a ship, you don’t even get a picture. So this app is trying to force me to pay for things that it used to do for free, and it still is possible to do for free if I use google or other apps, so there is literally no reason to use this app anymore. On an unrelated note, the old logo was completely fine. The new logo looks nothing like a ship unless you know in advance that it’s trying to look like a ship viewed from the front. Simpler isn’t always better. It’s an app logo, not a company logo. It should quickly convey what the app is for so that it stands out on a page with 27 other app logos.

Your recent update seems to have turned off the ability to filter vessels.... Right now I am using this app to track a single vessel on which I will soon be taking a cruise. I used to be able to filter out all other vessels as a default. Now with your recent update, while I can still do this, it doesn’t stay that way and all vessels keep on coming back. This clutters up the map a bit, and it is annoying to constantly have to go back and reset this filter. Other than that this is a great app and I enjoy it very much. Thank you.

Greedy Company. I already paid for the app itself. Then theres extra fees if I want to use certain features? Last I checked, that’s not how it’s supposed to work. So now here I am with a paid app, yet I can’t access vessel information without paying for satellite radar. Then you have to pay for weather readings. Then you have to pay for navigation charts. Then you have to pay for augmented reality. What’s next? Are you going to start charging when you to fart while the app is open? Only reason I got this app was because I was vacationing on the coast while ship watching and I was stoned. Otherwise I never would’ve paid the initial app fee!

Great app but expensive!!. The app run great but it’s expensive for what you get!! I ran out of notifications which I have never seen on any app of the 100s I have purchased. Got a notification that I’ve used all my notifications until 3 weeks from now. So I’ve used all my notifications in one weeks time. Notifications they have sent me at random. I even Downloaded and subscribed with the full amount to keep updated on a friend who’s traveling on the water. It would be cheaper to purchase a gps location device where you could send text messages. The price and features is to expensive.

Confusing. I use other location and tracking apps and they are very user friendly. This app however is confusing to navigate and use. I was after a simple identification and tracking app for boats and ships in my area, similar to the app ‘Flight Radar 24’ for aircraft where I simply click on an icon and get specific identification of the aircraft and planned route..Marine Traffic is nothing like that..all I get when I click on an icon is the type of vessel, unless I pay extra for the 24 period to ID one single vessel icon. I’ll continue to look for an alternative app that doesn’t nickle and dime me while leaving me confused when trying to navigate it…

Tracking Made Easy!. I’m an old Navy Radarman from before everything was computerized. This software has revolutionized the ocean shipping industry as far as being able to keep track of vessels of concern. I know we could have used this as an additional tool that would have proven itself in short order. I live in Belize and like to track the vessels coming down here from Florida so I can keep track of where items might be at that I’ve purchased and shipped down. It makes for a fun hobby too - kinda like train spotting used to be.

Where and when. I have mostly use this app for my line handlers job we get a basic tug time of arrival but it’s always nice to take a peek on the map and see where in the river the ship is . before this app, I spent many wasted hours sitting at the dock, waiting for a ship that was delayed or much further from the dock then it’s arrival time . No a little bit before I leave and take a peek at the map and adjust my schedule accordingly and use the yearly subscription really isn’t that much money

Fantastic Marine Traffic Website. Great fun to use this site to look up the marine traffic here on Narragansett Bay, in Jamestown, RI. I can identify, through your website and Google most of the sailboats, yachts, commercial ships, and gigantic RoRos, heading to Providence and Davisville. It’s become my hobby view all of this from my front porch, since I’m fortunate in that my front yard goes right down to the water’s edge. Newport, RI, home to many yachts, is only 2m across the water.

Track Vessels In Water Near You!. This app enables you to track vessels anywhere in the world but especially in waters where you’re familiar or active. It’s up there with flight aware in aircraft tracking tail numbers. Way too much public information out there but you might as will take advantage of it -this is really cool. Suggestion- get a VHF radio and use in conjunction with this app. You’ll learn tons and can use to teach your children or grandchildren or simply to navigate and stay out of the way!

Marine Traffic Period.. Our vantage point elevation is at 750 ft. overlooking 20 miles of the Columbia River. Curious to learn where the vessels come from, and which port they will land at, gives us a window into the supply chain conversation. Most of the ships travel thousands of NM, over the course of weeks to deliver petroleum and automobiles, or retrieve grains, corn, chemical, steel, and forest products. Fascinating for local viewing, but awe inspiring when dialed into the world shipping lanes and ports. Recommended to many.

Good app - extra features don’t work between devices, though. Works pretty well, aside from slow vessel updates at times. . . Also, big peeve is failure of feature upgrades to work between devices. For example, I upgraded to nautical chart option on my iPad, expecting to see it in effect on my other devices - phone, laptop, office machine, and so on - as well. But it only works on the one device. That stopped me upgrading anything else. If I pay for an account and purchase an upgrade it should work on all my devices!

Great for Armchair viewers too.. Speaking from experience I give MarineTraffic a double Thumbs Up for monitoring ship passage and local marine traffic. In my mid-Eighties, I am certainly not spry and agile as earlier in life, but MarineTraffic allows me to keep tack of what as once a portion of my sole and appreciation for the life I lived. It is a great application that gives one the opportunity to stay informed and connected to our world on the water.

DON’T Try to Reset your Password or You’re Screwed. The app is decent and informative (not always correct - see stats for Icon of the Seas). But I recently had the need to reload and reset my password. No matter what I did the password reset feature came back with “invalid data” .. which did not allow me to proceed and deleted my old password. So I now have no access. After a few tries with customer support, I deleted the app and wrote out my subscription as “don’t try everything because it’s not what it appears”.

Pricing to correct.. The app is really great I was using find my ship. With subscription on yearly basis. I bought this one at $4.99 as one time payment and there was a pop up for Access plus 24 for $0.99 bought them as it doesn’t show any further detail like it is valid only for 24 hours after purchase only came to know it is valid only for 24 hours. I like that to be refunded and please correct that. It is like a insurance catch. Make it transparent and it makes the buyer to buy without any hassle.

Tedious picture loading. I just signed up for this app and tried to upload a photo of my boat. It is a tedious process and an unintended photo has now been assigned to my vessel. There’s no easy way to change this. I’m going to have to submit a help request to do a simple task. How do you even delete a picture do you know longer or not posted? Not easy to accomplish! And this is on top of a surprise when I originally signed up – a Cal20 sort of boat was associated with my vessel and it was not a picture I took! How it got there I have no clue. the health center has no clue either. Really, why is this so hard?!$&@!!?

Indespensible. I just sailed from Chesapeake Bay to NYC. I don't have AIS on my boat, and was concerned about boat traffic in the C&D canal, the Delware river, and Ambrose channel into the Hudson. I DO HAVE cellular service on my Ipad. We remained within 10 miles of the coastline at all times, and this app identified all the freighters, both near us, and I could also look ahead and behind us. I was then able to hail them and discuss course and direction with them. There were a few times we needed to adjust our course a tiny bit, and avoid issues well in advance. This app was a life saver for our voyage. Even when I upgrade to onboard AIS, I will still use this app to see the freighters that are outside of the VHF line of site range to predict CPA. Thanks Marine Traffic!!!!

Marine Traffic app review.. Spent the last 31/2 days in A Bay closing a friend’s cottage, been doing this for approximately 15 years. Only thing different this time was the Marine Traffic app. OMG !! It was like Christmas when you’re 10! We can look right out the shore of cottage and see the river. At night you can feel and hear the thrum of ships engines, just don’t know which way they’re going. NOW , we know everything and when they will go by us. We are all dads in our 70’s with kids and friends. Guess which group was the biggest hit this year, yup, all of us old guys!! Best app. I have. Thank you.

Shipping to Fiji. Wow! I’ve always wondered what happened to my packages that get shipped to Fiji. This time I had a whole container with a tractor in it. So I followed it through the shipyards and then the ship it was put on. VERY educational. Now I know why it takes anywhere from 2 months to 6 months to get my packages! This was all new to me; like watching the draught of the ship change between ports. And the info you can get on any port in the world at the tap of your finger…amazing. I only needed this for a month but I will use it again for my next shipping project.

Not as advertised / does not function / further follow-up was worthless. This app does not do anything more than the publicly available ship tracking websites. None of the information on the app is any better or more up-to-date than those other websites. The app itself does not provide many functions, unless you sign up for an account, which did not function. I was unable to insert my country or state to complete the registration to log-in. I certainly feel like I was duped into paying for an app that doesn’t work. I received an email asking for further feedback. It sent me to a link to a generic and positively worthless site. I will fully reiterate the complete and total rip-off that this app is and hold Apple responsible for allowing this app to exist. You clearly have my info. If you legitimately care about feedback, I would be happy to elaborate, but please don’t placate me with insincere and fake emails.

Avid cruisers. This is a greatest app ever for tracking your ships and all ships that you would like to track. We have cruising friends that sometimes takes different ships but end up in the same port once in a while. We can track each other’s arrival times from this app. You can also follow your friends on their journeys.

4 yrs ago told everyone to spend the 5$ on this app. No longer. 3 to 5 yrs ago, for 4.99 you could get this as a paid app. For what we and our land lubber friends used it for, the occasional ships, going on a cruise etc, this was fabulous. Even my 85 yr old mother in law bought it. We probably got at least 25 people to download this app. More than any other! Unfortunately it’s changed… Now it’s full of ads and pushing you to another paid model. I get that you can do routes etc, but sad it’s going this way. We’ve heard from probably half our friends they deleted it now and do we have another app to promote lol. Ughhh. :(

Paid $.99/day for better tracking and no good. My son is on a ship sailing around the world and when the ship is out of range, it isn’t traceable. Ok, fine. But then they started offering $.99/ day for out of range tracking and it does not update. I’ve paid for 4 days of tracking and it hasn’t updated distance traveled at all. It shows the location of ship when you pay the $.99 but never again. Very frustrating. While it’s only $.99 it’s not giving us what was promised. I’d like my money back.

MarNav App, My Personal VTS. The ability to track vessels during transit increases the efficiency of planning dockage and wharfage labor distribution While shifts may not change significantly, where labor is deployed during the shift shaves cost of under utilization. Also, planning critical operations sensitive to vessel wake, effect of bank cushion, or bank suction in a confined waterway so much more helpful….being able to see work windows and calculating real time interactions make Marine Navigation an important tool for Stevedoring

Great for Cruises. Love using this app while on cruises. Fun to find out more about the ships around me, and there is a wealth of information on the ships. I just use the app for fun and feel like I haven’t even scratched the surface of the features, but it’s easy to use and the augmented reality interface is pretty cool even if it doesn’t always seem to get the location right (very difficult given that these ships are moving). Have really had a good time with this app. If you’re going on a cruise, this is worth every penny, as is the AR upgrade.

Free unlocks expire when app closed. I was looking for an app to track my vehicle shipment. This app does a great job of that and more. There’s a catch for free accounts, however. You get three “past route” and three “vessel info” unlocks before having to register and pay. No problem, I thought. Just want to track one ship over a period of 3-5 days. So day one I unlock the past route and vessel info for my ship. Very cool info! Day two I go to check on the vessel and… I have to use another unlock for both the past route and vessel info. Now day two again, but I closed the app and it wants to use my final unlock for both the route and vessel info. It’s the same ship on the same route. If you’re going to subscribe, this won’t matter to you. If you’re like me and only have a single, one-off use of the app, go for it but don’t close the app! You’ll have to use your limited unlocks again and quickly run out. I hope the app dev will consider allowing each unlock to last for the current sailing of the selected ship instead of what seems to expire as soon as I close the app.

Very fun app if you have a fascination with logistics and infrastructure. I live in a port city and constantly see ships loading and unloading. I get an itch in my brain about where it’s all come from and where it’s going and without this app I would have no idea how to scratch it. I find it endlessly fascinating to learn how the world works so this feels like a huge unlock. Thank you!

No Longer Useful.. Marine traffic was once a useful, and for some, indispensable tool. With the recent “update” you now have to pay daily to see the name/position of one vessel. Seeing unnamed vessels on the screen is not worth the original price paid for the app and certainly not worth the daily extortion money MarineTraffic is demanding now. The point of AIS is to have a better idea of who you are dealing with out there before you meet them. Extremely disappointed with this new development and I would no longer recommend this once great app to anyone. I would request a refund if I thought they would actually grant one.

Glad I took the leap. After using the desk top version of this I decided to download the app. I almost didn’t after reading reviews stating you had to pay for info on each vessel. After downloading I ran into the same issue, HOWEVER there is a super simple fix to see the vessel names/basic stats. For some reason the app does not default to this; but if you go to settings-map options- you will see “vessel names”, you just have to toggle that on and you will be able to see them for free. A few took a few minutes to update but overall it is working just as the desktop version does.

Fun, educational. Track your ships!. I love cruising and traveling but I also live near a busy port and I love knowing what’s coming in and out and where in the world are my favorite ships located. I’d wish they would feature the complete scheduled and travelled route before and after of, let’s say, a cruise. It seems it only tells you the last port and next future port. Also it tells you the name and flag of the ship, tonnage, dead weight but it will not tell you the company the ship belongs to or how many passengers it can hold so I took off one star for that. Otherwise, I love it!

Great for Moms of Seafarers!. It’s a great tool for moms and families to keep up with their loved ones. Our youngest son started working on ships recently for the first time. He laughed when I mentioned I needed him on my phone tracker list so I could see where he was while he was working! Lol! But, then I found MarineTraffic! I didn’t tell him for weeks I had it. One day I sent him a text and asked if he knew where they were. He responded that he had no idea. I sent him a screenshot of his ships location! Since then he downloaded the app himself. Now I even use MarineTraffic as my prayer list. When I hear about bad storms in the ocean I’ll look to see what vessels are in the path and pray for their safety.

Horribly Buggy. Unable to complete registering using "Sign in with Apple." Asks for a country, but won't accept any variation of "United States" or USA or U.S. or etc. Apparently a list should populate when you start typing & you have to select from that list, but it never does so you're never able to select a country & thus can't register. Really basic usability issues that should never be allowed to reach production. Maybe there is amazing capability after one registers (don't use Sign In with Apple, perhaps?) but this sort of shoddy work in a high-dollar app - at least, one that seems to offer lots of ways to spend money - is pretty disappointing.

Access plus 24 is misleading. Charges for each ship. Prior to Marine Traffic’s Access Plus 24 you could click on a ship and open the overview for free. This was a click look at the ship name, tonnage and few more data points. Yesterday, I clicked on the ship, opened the more >, but Access Plus was on next screen to purchase. Didn’t tell you I’m anything else. Had no idea what this was. I purchased and saw the details and more on the ship. Close this, go back to Marine Traffic, and click on another ship. I get the Access Plus 24 screen to our purchase. Odd, I had just done this but did it again. I was charged. So you get charged for every ship you want to look see. Where Marine Traffic provided a quick look at the ship where the name was most important factoid, now you can’t see anything! Now you get charged for every ship you want to know more about, such as name, tonnage, next port. Charging for every ship and not telling you is downright wrong. Go back to the way it was.

Inescapable ads. Great concept, I use a similar ones for flights frequently. Free version not very usable at least on a 13Pro. Frequent ads take over your screen, like the same frenetic video game which will not turn off even when you press “X” or “skip ads” repeatedly in a panic as it burns up data. You must shut down app and avoid, which is easy because you just had a terrible experience. Constant upgrade attempts for most info is locked. I realize a company needs to find the line where they can convert users, but if it’s unusable I don’t see me getting attached when I have the rest of the planet in my hands, limited time and a distaste for being annoyed. My experience suggests they have a monopoly.

Nice when it works. We left Florida to go cruising in the Caribbean and had friends and family that wanted to see where we were. I, unfortunately, suggested this app and they all purchased it. Now it RARELY updates my position. For example we spent 3 days in a marina on Great Exuma and it never updated. It updated once when we were sailing off the north coast of the same island. Now after 4 days anchored 9 miles north we have not updated. Other cruisers in the anchorage are showing up. Keep in mind that we have brand new Vesper AIS and we show up on other cruisers Navionics and WatchMate consistently. Only answer I got is maybe we need to upgrade to “satellite version “. This is the response from tech support, “ The lack of Updated Positions of a vessel can be a result of a number of factors. Signal strength, functional transponder, local (vessel area) and surrounding (nearby stations) weather conditions, temperatures, traffic and the satellite constellation frequency are some of the most important ones. After checking on this further, I can see as well that your vessel is equipped with a Class B AIS Transponder. Please note that the above information is especially true for vessels equipped with a Class B AIS Transponder as their signal may be weaker.

A must if you live near the sea. This app gives real time updates for ships and watercraft worldwide. I live within a mile of a shipping lane, there are large vessels sailing past my home day and night. It helps to know which ones might delay land traffic over drawbridges. If you’re catching a ferry it shows if it’s on time or late. (Provided you know the ferry schedule.) it is an absolute must if you live near the sea.

Huge fan of the app!. This app has been my companion all over the world, tracking boats and figuring out “what I can see” from various places from the US to Germany to Sydney. I absolutely love it and would pay a lot more for a truly premium version, if one is ever released. That said, I’m having crash issues lately - iOS 14.4.2 and version 4.0.8 of the app. Usually happens upon opening the app. Thanks for the many many many happy hours of nerding out over boats 💛

Free version is unusable. I make my living docking ships. Almost everything that once made this free app good is now behind a paywall. At one point I had a version I paid a premium one time fee for, but since changing to a subscription model its just hot garbage. There are much better free apps and much better paid apps. Disappointed. Update: Contacted customer service. They explained what I already knew. When switching from a one time fee model to a subscription model, they took away the additional features I paid for when I changed devices. Seems wrong. Like buying a car with cash then yesrs later the dealership says they’re switching to you to a lease and lowering the top speed of the engine if you don’t pay. Doesn’t make sense.

Great app with more potential. Updated Quick suggestions to improve app for this user: Make the ship icons on the map more easy to understand (rather than just color and size, change the shape like Plane Finder does - where the shape of the icon shows what type of ship it is). When I tap a ship on the map, show a little pic of it right away rather than just the name. Show a link to web search results for the name so I can easily get more info. Or just allow people to annotate the info like “this is Jerry Jones’ yacht.” Make following and alerts much more easy to use. Fix the bottom bar to work better with the latest iPhones so there’s room for the swipe up bar. Let me set alerts somehow for “interesting ships headed my way.” Thanks!

Tugboat Deckhand/Moran Towing. This is a very useful app at work and for my off time hobby of Ship watching. I can keep up with my favorite ships and when at work aboard our Tug at the Port of Brunswick, Georgia I can see all of the Inbound traffic before it gets here. Thanks for all you do and please continue this app! I love the little updates you get too with the Horn! It's awesome! Take care have a safe day. Smooth sailing.

Great Ap for Tracking. I got this ap on a whim because there was a ship parked off the coast and I was curious what it was and what it was doing. This ap is amazing. You can see, worldwide, what boat traffic is at sea or in port. Look at Monaco and see the super yachts, Or look in your local port and find out what Ships are dropping off goods. Always fun to see and use. The $.99 tracking is an option as are some other adons but this is a great ap and a must have for any maritime enthusiast.

Now Completely Useless. When I first started using MT several years ago, it was a great resource. What I saw out my window was exactly what I saw on the app. The information was accurate and timely, and the app was a lot of fun. For whatever reason, the timeliness and reliability of the information in the app has gotten continually worse, to the point now that none of the ships I see in port now are represented accurately in the app. With the latest update, I'm now getting generic titles like "yacht" or "cargo ship", and when I click on them, I'm redirected to some paid app ($150+ per year!) that I will never buy. This never used to be the case. The several times I've written to ask for help, I've been told that the problems were all on my end and that there's nothing wrong with the app. So, all that said, I am done with Marine Tracker, and will be deleting it from my device. It used to be a lot of fun, but it's all but completely useless now. A shame.

Can't be cancelled through Apple.. Can't be cancelled through the App or Apple. Must be done through difficult process on company site. Predatory! I purchased this product to track the tankers of a stock that I owned. I quickly found out the tracking the tankers was impossible unless I continuously purchased more notifications. The app is a complete scam and less you continuously purchase more and more. Not only that but it is almost impossible to cancel your subscription. I have been fighting with them for weeks to try to get a refund. And they still refuse to give me my money back for a renewal of a subscription that happened just a few days ago when I do not even have the app on my phone. This company is predatory and only trying to take advantage of users. Apple should ban them and any app that can't be cancelled from the phone when they bill using the phone. RIP OFF.

Using MarineTraffic as an observer. I am an old sailor who had AIS on my boat. Now that I sold my boat, I enjoy using MarineTraffic to locate cruise ships I am planning to take through their voyages. Always precise and up and running, the app is great. From time to time I pay MarineTraffic to monitor one of the boats offshore. I strongly recommend if you do not have AIS on board or if you want details about some boats that interest you.

Confusing, Annoying, and not user friendly. The cool thing about this app is you get real-time information about boats, ships, yachts, etc. Here is what is frustrating, I have to pay in order to view a specific ship and it only lasts 24 hours. There is no “renew” button and so one is forced to guess which ship you want to view and pay if you want to continue. There should be a “Renew” purchase option or something. I also have to keep logging in over and over and over again. I’ve logged in 3 or 4 times just in the one session, even when I didn’t close the app.

Worth every cent!. My parents have a cottage on Lake Huron in Michigan. We can see freighters and other boats out in the distance but not close enough to see their names and other details. Just open the app and you can find out what freighter or boat it is, see pictures, see where they are coming from and going and much more. It's great for anyone that likes boat and freighter watching especially if you live on the water.

Warning! 16$ app fee is just the start!. I was excited to pay for and download this app just to find that the 16$ I paid for it doesn’t do much. For example I bought a plane tracker app from a different company and the cost for life was 4.99$ which gave me an unlimited number of favorite planes and allows me to track planes wherever they are anywhere I’m the world. Not with marine tracker. Once a ship leaves a coastal area and moves into satellite range (which I think is about 20 miles off the coast) you have to pay 1$ per ship, per day). So say you want to track 3 ships for a month - 90$. You can pay for a monthly rate but only for each action the app does and those but add up pretty fast. For example to add more than 5 ships to you favorites would cost approximately 100$ a year at their best price of 8$ a month billed annually. What about larger packages. Those will cost you in the hundreds of dollars a year. The “pro” plan costs $1,200 a year. I would strongly suggest looking into what you want out of this app before dropping the initial 16$. Very disappointed in this app. It feels like the devs are just trying to milk every dollar out of me they can.

Disappointed. Update: Fantastic customer service. They addressed my concerns quickly and explained how the app works. I am new to this type of app (mom of a new Maritime grad). They even offered to locate the vessel for me as a courtesy. I paid to join then am asked for $.99 to get a satellite location of my son’s ship for 24 hours. What did I join for? You would think the plan would at least include a location of one ship.

Cool app. Really cool App, gives you a general idea of the Vessels around you. But not all vessels you can gather information on or give the exact location of them. Also even when you pay the $5 dollars some features like vessel tracking require you to pay an extra dollar to unlock. For $5 bucks you can’t go wrong for an App. I would rate this as more of a fun toy while on vacation or on the water rather than a hardcore navigator life or death tool to use on the water. None the less 5 stars for me.

What happened to the app that I love?. Advertisement banners, nothing that used to work is working. Require additional subscription. This app has seriously been downgraded. I am so sick of paying for apps . Just have the features removed. That I paid for. I need another subscription bill like I need a hole in my head. The developer response is a lie. Contact them directly. Is a complete waste of time. All they do is talk about somehow It must’ve been removed from my account. Then immediately try sell me on their subscription service. There has been no effort to restore my access for what I paid for. The nerve of these company stealing from you then expecting you to continue doing business with them. Crooks! Apple needs to be held accountable as well. It is an increasing alarming rate of companies getting away with this on this platform. An apple is doing absolutely nothing about it.

You’ve ruined my favorite app. As a frequent cruise who lives by the sea, Marine Traffic was my favorite go-to app to see where I was on the open sea, or find out what ships were nearby. I don’t want to follow 1 ship for 24 hours, that’s not how I use the app. I know there are other cruisers out there who are in a similar position. Please let us go back to our casual use of the app, seeing the ships that are in the area. I’m sorry I updated the app to this version and in its current version it is of no use to me.

Could be improved but still ok. I use this app to track the boats my partner is on when he delivers them around australia. It would be great to nominate 1 boat which, when you open the app, it tells you instantly where that boat is..At the moment I open the app, locate the boat from the fleet, click and wait to see. When I choose to track just one boat all I need is to see the last position and info for that boat only... If I want to see all boats in the area or a fleet then I would click on buttons to open those screens.

It’s now a pay to follow App. The only way to follow a particular craft is to pay for 24 hours of satellite, if you don’t know exactly which craft it is it’s a guessing game that cost $1.25 for every guess. Stupid changes that have made this app useless to me

DO NOT BUY. A total rip-off. I bought the app to track a boat I often work on. It doesn’t work. It’s always weeks or sometimes months since the last position update. They expect you to pay $1.49 just to track 1 boat for 24 hours. There’s 3 boats I work on so they expect me to pay $4.47 a day or $1,631 a year just to track them and this is after I paid for the app. Like I said total rip-off and not useful at all for tracking boats.

Seaventure ship tracking. It was great to be able to see where my wife’s ship was at any time. Easy to use app with destination and current location identified. A wonderful service

Too limited for use without paying more. It (probably) has great capability but unless you pay the premium you won’t get much. Limited fleet options, limited information. I bought the basic app but every time I occasionally want to know a bit more about a vessel it wants another $1.49 for just 24 hrs access.

MarineTraffic Review. I am overall happy with this App and the information provided. AIS coverage seems to be good for our Port (Fremantle WA), but it would be nice to have full time access for satellite positioned shipping (information/telemetry) at no extra cost; or at a reasonable once-off fee (not subscriptions). Access Plus 24 at $1.49 per day for 1 vessel - laughable. Apart from the App sometimes freezing in the photo gallery section (iPhone/iPad), it seems reliable. Also positioning can sometimes appear many hours old, but still remains displayed. Throw in all satellite positioned shipping and I would rate it more than 4 stars. As is, a good product that I use frequently.

Dishonest. I paid full annual price for ad removal - but ad removal only works on the iPhone app. Have to pay AGAIN for ad removal if you want to use your same account for web app on laptop. No other app does this. Really dishonest. Plus it gives incorrect locations for ships in Australia that I can see are in Melbourne port. I’ve wasted my money.

Ripped!. Sir,why the hell did I waste my hard earned money on this app? It cost quite a bit and doesn’t track the vessels at all…..Purchased it to follow my daughters once in a lifetime cruise and all it tracks is while it’s in port in Cairns and not the cruise at all !!!…..A very poor app!!!

A total disappointment. I purchased Marine Traffic for the explicit and sole reason to track my family on their Pacific Aria cruise from Brisbane to Vanuatu. So far the app shows the ship having been stationary for 17 hrs, 20 nm off the coast, after leaving port 4 hrs earlier. This is despite the app saying that the vessel is doing 17 knots! A disappointing waste of money.

Find my boat. Technology at its most useful. I can track my vessel and identify passing ships in the night. I only have the free version so miss out on any advanced features the paid version may offer.... perhaps soon.

Amazing.. This App is AMAZING just love it I live on the coast and see ships going past. Now I know so much more. Wish I could up load photos of what I see. I have told many that they should get it they have. CONGRATULATIONS

Pretty good app, worth the money.. It's not bad. Limited by how often ships are either broadcasting their location or within range of where they can be picked up it seems. Also a bit buggy. Sometimes ships in My Fleet list are not recognised even when I'm signed in. Shutting the app down and restarting or logging out and logging back in fixes that. It would be good if ship details popped open when the ship icon is tapped rather than having to tap again to get those details IMHO. Actually the more I use it the more I wish I hadn't bothered. Pity it doesn't work like FlightRadar24. Ship positions can be days out of date hich is worthless.

Marine traffic. With marine traffic it’s kind of cool that you get to see all the boats but one thing might be the way you present it like maybe next time you could add more features to it like more pitchures of the boats because it only gives us 1 pitchure and I would really like to see more of the boat

Extras are expensive.. When I first purchased this app it was to get info about an oil rig that was moored off our local coast. It was brilliant- I could track it being towed up and down the coast for a week while it avoided bad weather, and then to its mooring point in the bay. As my interest expanded, I checked out other ships and I found that I could get almost no information about them if they were marked as ‘satellite only’ - unless I paid an extra $1.49 per vessel for 24 hours access. Depending on how you want to use this app will determine how much extra money you will need to fork out.

Excellent service.. I reported My vessel was showing a wrong position, possibly because I hadn’t taken her out for a while. There response was immediate, asked me to activate the AIS so they could fix the position. Problem solved. Great follow up with emails to make sure I was happy. As a family We also use the mobile app. Which gives great comfort to family and friends on the dry, as we are planning a circumnavigation later this year. Bill onboard

How great marine traffic is. Marine traffic let’s you look at boats from a whole new perspective. Though there where a few glitches but l think l got through it

Feedback on Marine Traffic app. I live in Darwin and rely on Marine Traffic to identify the many types of vessels that frequent our harbour. It provides the information I need for the many photographs I take and is very important to me for that.

So Slow. I’m deleting this app, you mainly see information that is a few days old, and ship positions take days to update so what’s the point of tracking a vessel with data that is many days old? Better off just searching for vessel information on Google.

OK. Limited by circumstances beyond its control. The interface would benefit by a bit of smarts. If the vessel is underway and the location doesn’t change for some time then either the vessel has sunk! Call the coastguard! Or you haven’t picked up a recent signal. Note that vessel as position uncertain. That’d be smart!

Do not buy this. Paid, downloaded and followed a journey of a family member which worked beautifully for 24 hours. Then, the prompts turned up to pay $1.25 for 24 hours of satellite coverage and the app became utterly useless. Back to a browser which is free and accurate.

Excellent app.. Easy to use, plenty of information. Random thought...would it be possible to calculate and display a line showing an estimate of the apparent horizon to show if a vessel should be visible.

Tracking my family. My son is a seafarer and it’s nice to know what part of the world he is in at anytime.

First Class App. Truly a sensational app and use it every single day I’m at work to find out where our crew change will be. Very handy tool. Well done to the developers.

Don’t waste your time. I wanted to track a vehicle carrier from Japan to Australia. They purposely only update the position every 3-4 days once you look at a particular ship to try get you to pay for updated positions. I was easily able to find live information across the entire voyage from another website at no cost.

Problem with tracking. Problem with tracking function

Unreliable at Best. We just sailed from Newcastle to Hobart and found that we were tracked well until Bass Strait and then poorly. It appeared to those watching we did 7 knots + across the strait BACKWARDS Not so funny for those at home when it appeared we were rendezvousing with a cruise ship in the middle of the Strait giving rise to concerns about medical emergencies etc. In Tasmania we have frequently been missing for several days at a time. Unreliable information is not always better than none.

Tracking problem. I’ve been using this app for years to keep track of my husband’s commercial fishing boat while he’s away working, it’s never been a perfect app when it comes to tracking but for about a year now the tracking has been completely wrong saying that he’s in New Caledonia when he’s in fact in Western Australia.

Suggest improvements to interface and in app purchases. Okay it sort of works. But the interface is a bit all over the place and needs a complete rethink imho. On the in app purchases everywhere, I guess that is the modern way. But some of them are applied too strictly. For example, if you buy 24 hours of position information through Access Plus 24, that historical position is no longer accessible after the 24 hours. So the access might have just expired, but rather than provide the last position during the time I paid for access, it provides a (free) position report from, say, 20 hours ago. This would be an easy fix and much fairer. And for that matter, I suggest something other than a bog standard “please reach out to customer support with more details” response. I provided a specific suggestion re Access Plus 24 in my review. Take it or leave it, but if you leave it your app will be the worse for it, imho. As for the user interface, i suggest some extensive ux work on the app

Interesting and helpful. I enjoy tracking ships and other registered vessels in ports when I visit their cities. Difficult to reset the location.

Paul. App has serious problems which make it useless, for instance, the position data for a vessel I'm following is now more than 24hrs out of date. The app sent me alerts that the vessel had berthed then left 12 hrs later but the they are charted in a day old position a long way from the port. This happens over and over- conclusion, the app is not worth using because it is misleading and erroneous.

Great Tracking app. I use it this while cruising. Simple and easy. Worth it if you spend a lot of time cruising. Makes you comfortable that loved ones can track your progress and a good addition for safe sailing. John

We find it Ok. We are not experts in this area but we have used it quite a lot and we find it very easy to use and would recommend it. It tells us all we want to know.

Great app but sometimes updates are days apart unless you pay a little extra.. Use this app all the time but lengthy updates are frustrating and have to pay extra to get a satellite position.

Great. Love tracking ships on this ap. Most times it is up to date and being able to see the route taken over the last 24 hours adds interest.

Paid for app, now wants more $$. Paid for the app, but now asking for more money to track yachts which feels feels like a rip off. Thanks but no thanks. Steer clear.

Stay away from access plus. Ship positions are very old, for example 22 hours old. You can purchase access plus to get the updated position which they have but don’t apply it. So I purchased access 24 thinking it applied to ALL ships. Na, 1.49 for just one ship. Now that a rip off. So they have the updated position of ships but won’t pass that on unless you pay 1.49 a ship. Want to know where you can shove this program?

Can’t fix images. Someone with the same boat name as me posted a picture of their boat onto my images. I can not remove it and you have neglected my requests to do so.

Keeping Track. Love it. Helps me see where friends and family are. Also let’s them know where we are Well done

Was fantastic. Was a fantastic App. Now that you have to pay $1.50 everytime you want an up to date position fix it is no longer cost effective. Shame. Trying to track friends sailing in reefing area.

Marine Traffic. I have used this app on a daily basis for years now, initially my fascination was to track the world wide travels of car carriers and now take a more general interest about the general freighter industry. What a fascinating industry, one thing I would like to better understand is the volumes of cargo that go round the world but doubt if a data base would exist for this.

A very handy app. I find this app very handy, I can show offical I have AIS, I can look for friends in the surrounding areas & look a boat names

COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER APP. This is a very informative app that gives you information on maritime movements anywhere in the world. It works every time, I could not ask for a better app.

Some ads are really bad. Some full screen ads can’t be closed. You have to exit the app and restart.

Waste of money. Download ship tracker instead. This app is a waste of money- doesn’t give me yu access to more ship data that isn’t already available for free on other apps. The native design of the app is terrible and clunky. Has more in app purchases yu have to buy once you’ve already bought the app- which defeats the purpose entirely. Regret purchasing

App I can’t live with out.. I have been using this app for the last five years it does have some sessions every now and then, I am in Australia and a member of the world shipping society in Melbourne very useful and handy when following ships around the world.

Layers Don’t Remain. How do I keep the layered options I’ve set for vessels? Every time I enter my preference and click the tick to confirm, they remain, but only whilst I’m viewing in that session. Would be great for them to remain whilst I have the app installed. Is this at all possible?

Not working. My app suddenly doesn’t work. When I tap it it just flicks back to my Home Screen. I’ve tried to reinstall but lost all my settings. Useless.

Mr Mac. If you live on the coast, a must have ap for fun & info on almost all craft at sea. A friend uses it on an island to track the ferry that picks him up to come to the mainland. A great must have.

Marine traffic. Good app, I have used it internationally also. It does fail dismally when trying to follow yacht races, they all have their radio turned on, but only about half of the fleet are on screen. 7 August 2019 Racing yacht Black Jack 100 is still being shown as moored in Sydney NSW Australia. Your information is more than 2 months out of date. She has currently raced from Brisbane to Airlie and was second in line honours. She would certainly have been in radio contact. She is possibly on her way back to her Brisbane base. What went wrong, can you please update?

Available. Great information on tap

Satellite picture. Satellite pictures needs be updated in Newfoundland.

Great App. Great App for tracking vessel and what dock they are at. I use it to see where vessels location are the one that I have to get on.

Boats. Totally piece of garbage they don’t give regular updates on movements has long has 8 hrs. Don’t waste your time on this app

WARNING - They changed it after I bought it. I paid something like $7 for the app. It worked well for a while. I considered it a good app. Now to get recent updates on a ship's position, it wants more money each time. Someone went overboard with greed. They changed the pricing model AFTER we already paid. Now to use the app I already paid for, they are extorting more money. Now the app is useless unless I give them more money each time I want to look up a ship. Any company that would this deserves to not get anyone's business. It’s a scam to charge to use an app I already paid for, and was working fine. I want my money back. And I’m very angry that Apple allows this.

Vancouver Cruise Ship Watch. We can see what ships are in, and their names, and when they start to pull out. And then we can watch them sail away, from our patio.

Love this app. Thank you for making this information available to hobbyists and non sea faring people. I is a joy to see locations and progress of an industry like shipping.

Doesn’t show vessel info unless I pay $1.39. Not happy, not sure what I got extra for $13.99? Seems no different than free

marine traffic. payer 8.04$ et ca vaut rien tout est payant ne pas acheter ne pas gaspiller votre argent

Precision excellent. Helps me find my family fast, yes 2 generations of sailors!

You were the best. I am a sailor at the end of my career, this app helped on a daily basis up here on the Great Lakes. Almost every ship was using marine traffic as a back up to our normal equipment. When our normal equipment failed while travelling the welland canal I handed the Captain my Pad and he used your app to get the ship through 5 locks. The techs showed up in lock 8 to repair us. We get off these ships to get personal supplies and then have to figure out where the ship is so we can get back to work. Your app was incredible. Now you must have new owners or a new finance team because the app is useless now. Most ships don’t turn it on anymore and many are removing and going with your competition. I have been with you guys since your beginning and have made an occasional purchase usually sat tracking for the Atlantic. You had an amazing product and your greed destroyed it. My app is now useless and sooner than later I will delete it, I actually miss what used to be…Cya Kevin out…

Free full website better.. Unless you need a mobile version, nothing gained by purchasing the app. I find myself using the website on my phone instead of the app. And don’t expect to gain anything with the app, other than a nice interface.

St Mary’s River resident. Living on the waterway with the ships passing all day, we find the app very handy to find it who is coming. During evening bonfires it is nice to know what to expect.

Great for Cruise Ship tracking. We use this app to track which Alaskan cruises are coming by our house in the summer. Works great and ETA to your location is within 5 mins of being accurate!

Doesn’t tell correct sailing route location. It says a ferry from bc is headed to Croatia even through bc is in canada on the pacific side please fix this

Interesting. Ok I paid for the unlock version for a year and all of a sudden every boat I tap on says satellite and cost $1.39 to look at it. Stop ripping off people , That’s not fair. Makes honest app makers look bad. Stop gauging people. Please respond!

App still crashes after update + Missing Map Data. Screen turns blue and never comes back. App crashes after 3 minutes under latest iOS. Repairs and new update needed.

Notifications. It’s pretty sad that I paid for the app but only get notifications for one day then have to pay for them. Scam

Review. Excellent web site…..easy to interpret…accurate ..a credit to the designers…..well done!!

There is a push to purchase. I gave a poor review since there has been a push to purchase premium access on a daily basis - often without any new updated information details.

Boats boats boats. Great app for boats. Info is the best. Love the weather report on lot of the ships.

New bug/glitch. I’ve used this app for a while now and have loved it, however I just discovered a new bug where it will not let me add a ship to one of my favourites list. Please fix it if you can, cheers

I use to love it. I paid for the in app purchase and really like this app but…. Recently when I search ships the AIS information is old and the app wants me to to pay an additional fee to get an accurate position. I will look for a different app

Useless. Will find any ship but will stop finding them along the way Have experience with two vessels along the west coast which are stuck at the same location for weeks according to the app but in reality they are already 2000 miles future. Pretty useless app

Where are you?. I really like the app for following a particular vessel, wherever destination it takes or coming from. Complete informations for the ship is a big plus and it is worldwide. I like it a lot.

Looks good at first.. How about tutorial on how to use the program. I spent 1.39 to find out wrong boat.

Excellent app!!. We’ll worth the purchase price. This app tracks ships that other apps say “Not Currently Tracked” even if the ship is close to a land mass. This is the app that actually works all the time.

Most ships don’t have any more info with subscription. The subscription doesn’t show barely any more info then it does for free. I bought one boat and thought it was really cool so bought the subscription thinking that was the information I was buying but nope. No value for this subscription at all. So disappointed and regretting this app purchase more than any app I’ve ever bought.

MarineTraffic.

It's a borderline scam. Be careful, that $1 that this app charges to show you vessel info is PER VESSEL, not one/time payment or day pass. You will pay $1 every time when you want to check a ship. You've been warned!

Best tracker!. Love this app which I discovered when I needed to keep track of my brother solo sailing around the world. Excellent value!

Australia?. I can’t believe the details showing while zooming in. I think I found an old friend’s boat at his slip in the Townsville Australia marina.

Charging for basic vessel details. One of my favorite features of MarineTraffic was the basic vessel details such as departure and arrival ports and year built. Now starting on December 30, 2021, I can’t access the year built and departure ports more than three times a month without paying a subscription. This automatically ruined the app, so I’m not gonna use it anymore. I would rate this app 0 stars if possible just for this change ruining the app. UPDATE: The following day on December 31, 2021, I noticed that those lock symbols replacing the departure and year built were gone. This probably indicated that your company may have accidentally placed those there. I was overjoyed no longer seeing those there which is why I’m rating this 5 stars once again.

This app has turned to crap. As a professional mariner all I can say is that this app used to be great but now it sucks. The functionality & accuracy of the info has deteriorated over the past year and the new pricing is ridiculous.

Like the app. I really like the app. I’d like to be able to track the boats all the time though. The boats tracking is in the same place for 10 days. I thought I could get a paid version but it was only for 24 hours. I’d like to have an app that keeps tracking even if I have to purchase it for a reasonable price.

Useless without the $$$ subscriptions. $30+ in monthly subscriptions to even make it work. I'm sitting in a port with a dozen large boats running AIS on all sides of me and none of them show up on the app.

Salut

Junk !. This app is pure junk. I purchased it and it does not work in and around Atlantic Canada. And there’s a ‘built in ‘ extra fee ... and that’s a scam ... be aware.

JB Mac Neil. No instructions of any kind on how to use it or what the icons or colours mean.

Ship Spotting Bible. MT has helped me to be productive in travelling around southwestern Ontario to photograph vessels working in the Great Lakes of North America. I wouldn’t know where to go or when if it wasn’t for this app.

Not happy I paid for this. I bought the version with satellite tracking but it is always many, many hours out of date. I am trying to follow a particular boat so this is not helpful. There does not seem to be a refresh button. And I don’t know if the winds and weather info is any more current than their position. Very disappointed!

I love this app. Thank you so much for this. I love learning about the ships and seeing where they go. I love to stay at my favourite place, The Inn at Lock Seven, to rest, relax and see the ships up close. This app just helps me be right at the window or on the balcony when they arrive. I can also find local services, restaurants, and plan road trips with this same app. THANK YOU so much. Teresa

Great. This is a great app !

MarineTraffic. It’s the best ship tracker I’ve ever used. I Can’t imagine 1 ship tracking app better then this one

Not worth the new version. The old version was okay. I can’t get this new one to work on my new phone.

Arnaque/Scam. N’achètes pas cet app est un arnaque, j’ai payé pur 24hr et ça function pas! Don’t buy this app. Is a scam I pay for 24 h and is not working!

Tracking cruise ships. Satellite function is educational. I have never seen the oceans like this before. The tracking function is easy to use.

Marina Traffic. This site gives me a complete picture of what is going on in my harbour and ports that I have visited. It deserves 5 stars

MarineTraffic. Merci , je peux localiser mon fils sur le fleuve. Ex-Pilote

Fishing boats. Great app and loved it when there was free info. I use it to keep track of the vessel I fish on but won’t pay for it every time I check on her.

Annonces. C’est dommage les annonces Google dans le bas de la page. Ça me donne envie de changer d’application, juste à cause des annonces.

Helpful when it’s usable. I use the free version recreationally for hobby photography. It’s helpful to see what’s heading for our port, estimated arrival times, etc. I don’t mind the ads to support the free version. However, you can’t close the ad after the timer and get stuck on a dead screen. The X / close tap isn’t registering — but of course the Open / ad CTA is tappable. You have to force quit the app, restart it and hope you don’t get another ad for a bit.

The best tracking app on earth. It narrows it down whenever you go to see ships it’s a live app that can tell you where it’s going and when it’s going to arrive it’s vary simple find where you going and go on the app to see what ships are passing bye free ,

They charge now for basic things. Basic info was easy before. Now they charge for things . My son is a merchant mariner. I like to pop on and see where the ship is now and then. Sometimes they don’t update the location ,on this app ,for a week or more. That is not helpful. If I want updated location I have to pay monthly for the app. So it’s not as great as it used to be

Almost perfect. I would give this application a five except for the fact that vessels that have long since passed by my house remain on the map as a lighter shadow of a boat hours after they’re gone, which is a little annoying.I would like to see them enhance the app so that I can set an alarm that will go off when a particular vessel is within close range of my house.

If you live near the water.... you'll love this app. We live on the Chesapeake Bay, near the Atlantic, and it's really interesting to get all the info on ships and large boats that come in and out of Norfolk,VA. I'm tracking some ships all over the world (my fleet!) and it really exciting to actually see them come in/out of port. Very interesting and educational app.

Good, could be better. I really like this app is it shows most chips in Port and also their movement. It gives details for most trips including photographs. What I don't like is that not all ships are shown and that one can only track three ships with a regular subscription. This should be expanded to at least 10 ships. Still, or useful app which I enjoy using.

Pay to get the app and then pay some more!. I bought this app for my work. It’s been great for the last several years, but I’ve noticed they want me to pay more now for other features. Raise the price upfront maybe but I feel like putting in app purchase after I already bought the app isn’t right. I have other apps that did the same thing but they grandfathered everyone who had the app already. This app is just out to get more money. Oh well.

Terrible. So far this app is terrible. I started with a free subscription and soon bought the starter plan figuring it would work better. I created a fleet including a friend on a sailing venture. I just received a notification about his vessel. Went to the site and it is showing me his location from 6 days ago! There are some cruise ships that I follow that showed up with current location, but that’s it. I can see other active vessels but not his! Very frustrating, help area seems useless!

Can't even register. Trying to register so I can create my fleet... But no information populates the drop down for country selection, doesn't recognize when I type it in completely, and won't allow me to finish registeting without it... Fail

Don’t pay for this app. I’ve used the free version and decided to pay the $10. Per year. I’ve tried to create an account but it won’t recognize United States, or any other country I enter. There is no drop down. When I tried to create an account using email it recognizes the U.S., but the doesn’t recognize a state by typing or initials. Tried the in app support but it shuts down before you type your question. Will try to get my money back.

My 10 dollar subscription. I bought the 10 dollar subscription and they still want to charge for 24 hours access. No way to contact anybody. I gave five stars because it seems to work well. I didn’t want to screw up their rating for what might be a misunderstanding.

Barges No longer labeled. I used to love this app. I used to take and post pictures and track my favorite barges. But since I have returned to use it, it no longer identifies the names of barges. It asks for .99 to have one day access because the barge is being tracked by satellite. I bought a year for 9.99 in hopes I would again have unfettered access. But no luck. I am looking for another app and will be out the ten bucks. But this is now useless to me. Bummer. I will not renew next year.

Big help in fog. Huge help when crossing traffic lanes in fog in the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands and Gulf Islands (Canada). Saved my bacon from ferries, tugs and freighters I couldn't see. Can also find friends who have AIS which is fun. I like the ability to see a photo of the ship for confirmation thats what I am seeing in the binocs, and in the Strait, knowing their destination is a big help.

Can’t close out of ads even when they have finished playing. Not sure if it’s related, but since the latest update I’m unable to clear ads once they are finished playing. The X shows up, but it seems to be outside the touchable area of my screen. I end up closing the app down and reopening, which isn’t the best user experience.

Love Marine traffic app. I live on the Columbia river and watch all the freighters coming and going to ports. I pull up the ship’s on the app and can see where it has been and where it is going. This app lets you the length, the year built and weight. Love this app. Bradley S.

Awesome,. I’m addicted to this app. We travel and cruise a lot and this app is fascinating to watch for movement of private yachts, cruise ships and cargo ships. Great graphics, plenty of information, and options for additional info if you need it professionally. Very precise - have even watched our ship go into dry dock very clearly on the map.

Changes are not good. I have used this app for years and it has been terrific. Whatever has been done to the app recently is not good. Gone is the info on the distance to the searched vessel, which helps narrow down the search for a particular vessel. Boats don’t appear in the name search list, yet they show up on the map. This is not what it used to be. The number one go to app for finding boats. Please fix this!!!

Lots of thought in the app, but critical bugs, too. A lot of thought and work has gone into this app, but it can be frustrating to use because of glaring defects. 1. Can’t upload photos. I get a “image must be at least 800 x 600” error, but these are high resolution photos from my iPhone X. They’re much larger than that. 2. I can only create one fleet and can only add 5 vessels to that fleet, although I’ve only learned the latter through trial and error—the app does not provide any feedback when you try to add more than 5. It also doesn’t provide any upgrade path to go beyond that limit. At least not one that I was able to find after 15 minutes. Definitely a neat app, but for a $5, I would expect fewer issues and a larger fleet limit.

Not AIS but the next best thing. As a sailor I use this app often when moored. It gives a good picture of the traffic in whatever location we happen to be in. They have improved the app greatly so it is very useful and could serve as a backup if our onboard AIS system failed as long as we could we receive a wifi or cell signal.

What happened to this app?. This was a useful app to view what ships are nearby. Now suddenly there is a .99 charge to look at a ship for 24 hours?🤨 Is it .99 per ship? Is it .99 per day to look at one ship or any ships? I already paid for this app once and enjoyed it but this is too much. 👎🏻

We love this app.. We have spent many hours using this app and share it constantly. Since we live on a busy river near a shopping lane we often use it to see where a ship is going/coming from and learn its details. It’s great for the family as a learning tool to explore the world.

Nice App for Tracking Ships. This app is really nice for anyone with family working in the maritime industry. It is comforting for those back home to know where their loved one’s ship is located. Cost is prohibitive to use the app for anything else. Wish it allowed more than 30 notifications per month. These don’t really cost the company anything to provide.

Slow refresh. This app is pretty good for checking and seeing which vessels are around you at one time. I haven’t been able to find out how to constantly update the positions though. Many times a vessel will stay at the same spot until I close out of the app and come back in.

From Great to Sad. This was, for years, one of my my all time favorite apps. Five stars. I enjoyed looking at the ships as I traveled literally around the world. But not now. You can still see the icons. Want to see what the icon is? The developer removed the ability to actually see a ship of interest. It was replaced with “Access Plus 24” which allows you to, after paying $1, see one (1) ship -only- for only 24 hours. Want to see more ships, or ships for longer timeframe? Pay up. Sad, really.

Great App. This is a great app for following and seeing where our ships are in relation to our work place. It’s usually very accurate and let’s me know when to expect our ships to arrive in port. I use it all the time and depend on it for work.

Good app, a few issues. This is a really good app with a couple issues. I’m using the free version and it keeps forgetting my fleet (only 2 boats, so hard to understand why that happens). Some of the best features like tracks are hard to find in the UI. But all in all this is a great app, esp for free. I will probably upgrade to the premium version at some point.

Good but it has so flaws. I think that you shouldn’t need to pay for anything in this app but if they can’t change that they should make it so it’s not a subscription and just a one time buy

My view of the world!. I don’t know of another app that would give you this kind of crystal-clear view of marine traffic across the entire globe. Plus they post insightful articles on LinkedIn. I found the app since I was curious about a yacht I witnessed at vacation destination, which got me more curious in general.

Essential for a sailboat in Puget Sound. Traveling up and down Puget Sound from Vashon Island to Port Townsend, it’s very common to have to cross a shipping lane or a ferry route. Since my boat’s top speed is just over six knots I find a huge increase in safety knowing what else is out there, how big it is, where it’s going and how fast.

Fantastic app!. Love the options, layers, satellite tracking, ship information, port details, and everything else about this app. Technology is incredible these days to be able to provide all the information and data.

Tracking our boat. We are using marine traffic to track our boat while the charter agency repositions it from Annapolis to the Caribbean. It has worked perfectly, Providing us instant information on the location, direction, speed and route of the boat. It also has alerts for activities such as leaving and entering ports. We are really enjoying the app.

Layman's thoughts. I'm a landlubber but ocean bound travel and business logistics has always fascinated me. I am amazed by the volume of info in this app. The alerts are nice, but the # of ships you can track is limited, unless you pay more. I added the worlds largest icebreaker and worlds largest container ship to my fleet, as well as a ship that transports oil rigs.

Decent app for free. Provides reasonably accurate positional information on boats equipped with AIS broadcast equipment. Very useful when trying to follow family members from far away, especially when they are out of contact with cell towers, etc. There is more to learn about how this app works but I think that will be worth the effort

What was 5 stars is now 2. All of a sudden, as others have been starting to point out, you now can’t get information on traffic that who’s position is being reported by satellite without a paying a new 99 cent fee. I’m on the St. Lawrence river and all I want to know is the name, where it’s going and the type of ship. I don’t want to track it for 24 hours. I just did a casual search of the St. Lawrence and Lake Ontario and many are now using Satellite. So, an APP that I recommended to many is now on my don’t buy list.

Terrific App. I have been utilizing this app for years as I lived with n Puget sound and watched ships come and go. It’s very enlightening and the ship details help understand the world of shipping. I have a relative who is on a cruise as a marine cadet. I an able to track his progress. It’s so reassuring when the weather gets bad..

BEWARE OF SUBSCRIPTION. App is okay, some elements are frustrating, but has a number of nice features that you gain by subscribing, but if you plan on subscribing, make sure you go to their website first to see the limits of what you get with the annual subscription. For example, you are limited to 5 ships in your fleet, so if you’re an avid cruiser and want to setup fleets of the cruise-lines you sail with, you are limited to 5 unless you want to pay another $10/MONTH to increase it to 50 ships. I will not be renewing, misleading.

Was good. I have used this app for years. Living on the Atlantic and doing cruises this was really a nice tool to see what boats were going by and where my cruise was. Recently since they put in the Access24 very little of the information is accurate sometimes days old. The developer says they did not change anything just gave better options for SAT access. Well that may be their song but this app went from 5 stars to 2 after this change and will probably be deleted

Unreliable. Gets stuck a lot!!! Money pit!! Not reliable!! Didn’t get update for more than 36h even though I paid for upgrades etc - would like to follow my husband’s transatlantic crossing but seems impossible. Unfortunately nothing better out there as far as I know…

OK but you'll be nickle and dimed. The app itself is neat. It has a lot of features and works relatively well. However they used the nickle and dime model for features and additional tracking which I don't particularly care for. I'd prefer a one time fee to cover it all. It also logs me out everytime I close the app which is annoying.

Enjoy the app. I enjoy using this app, works well and has been accurate for me. I wish the app would send you notifications if vessels of a specified type or size are within 5 miles of you location. Such a feature would help me catch a few more of larger ships on the Cape Fear.

Ship names. We have found this app very helpful in identifying ships and where they are heading. Not sure if information on heading is not updated by ship or what but sometimes the last port they have departed from is still listed as new destination? Other than that very useful information.

No more wondering about those majestic freighters. We live on Lake Michigan and have always watched freighters from our house. Wondering where were they from and where are they going? Now we know. It’s better than AIS on my boat with pictures of the ships and ports.

Useful and fun. Long time user (since about 2009) - my only complaint is it will no longer allow me to modify the ships in my fleet even though I’m signed in. I use this app all the time to track my friends who crew on yachts and cruise ships. I also use it to see what cruise ships are in specific ports. Living in SFL, it's busy on the weekends.

Hard to read, slow to update. On my iPad, the text giving vessel name and current information is very small and hard to read. If you zoom by spreading your fingers the text doesn’t get bigger, or stay bigger long enough to read. I can’t find settings or options to address this. Oddly, Marine Traffic on my iPhone has bigger text and is readable. Also, updates occur infrequently, 3-4 + hours or more, even for local traffic.

Fun App for Florida Residents. This is a fun app since I live in FL and see lots of vessels it’s fun to see them at a distance and be able to know what they are, what they look like, where they are going. I’ve seen all sorts of vessels, even a few submarines near Port Canaveral. I just wish the vessels and locations were more real-time.

Excellent software. I love Marine Traffic. Always had amateur interest in big ships, now i can see who they are and where they have been, with pictures and data, outstanding! Couldn’t have said it better myself!

Junk. Tried creating an account won’t create an account using Apple. Starts creating an account using google won’t let you put in any country and won’t move past it. Tried creating using email puts in United States automatically but the next thing it wants is the state. Tried all 50 nothing works. Don’t waste your time. Was trying to create a short list of the ships I transport containers for. Total waste of time. Really doesn’t deserve one star it’s a zero

Love this App. This App is fascinating even for a non nautical person like myself. My husband and uncle are sailors and my uncle navigated the globe with his wife and two friends in the 1970’s with no instruments but a sextant & compass. I highly recommend this app to anyone interested in current events, the environment, sailing, transportation, travel. It’s truly fascinating!

Lake Michigan. The app is useful in identifying the maritime traffic I so often see from the shore of Lake Michigan. The app has routes, wonderful photographs, and useful settings. Lately, I am no longer able to learn the distance from my location and many more ships are slipping past that aren't showing up on the app. It's remarkable how many ships there are traveling the waterways of the entire world using this app.

A 10 for data. While it has a sometimes-awkward interface it’s a great source of information. Because it crowd sources its data, it often has ship location and status when other apps don’t. And if you need something immediately, a mere $.99 will get you satellite updates for the day. No need for an expensive or long-term subscription.
