App does not work. This app does not work, even if you are a subscriber. When you try to log in, it will say that your username/password is incorrect (when it isn’t) or that your subscription has expired (when it hasn’t). This app is not functional. If you try to contact customer service about it, you will get no response to multiple emails and the most argumentative, attitudinal representatives on the phone. This app and its customer service are a mess.

App will not link to subscription. The app will not link to my subscription, and support emails go unanswered. The app is useless as a subscriber. The Nation is great, though.

5 stars for content,1 for app. About a year after my original review, the app is still useless. It won't take my login info, but gives me an error message and an email address to contact. When I try the email, I get an error that it isn't valid. I love the magazine, but seriously, this app seems to have zero priority. A real shame. I'm changing my rating down to one star. --- My experience is exactly the same as Zimmerman's on Dec 1. I have subscribed to digital+paper, and I logged in. Login is very confusing. I have been able to access some issues , but have tried for days to access the issue that just arrived in hard copy, and it wants to charge me for it or take out another subscription. This is a very important publication that many more people should be reading. Please fix the iPhone app!

Loved The Nation for decades. This is not a review but a question Been a subscriber for years, can't find my password or subscription info, what to do?

Subcompetent. Love the magazine, hate the app. So poorly executed I would fail a high-school student for turning it in. Terrible UX, a failing attempt to deliver video ads that inhibit interaction then don’t even show up. Not to mention I’m a subscriber but there’s a complete disconnect there. Last update 2 years ago should tell you everything you need to know. Whoever is in charge of their mobile app presence is either incompetent, asleep at the wheel or has no support to deliver from management.

A complete piece of crap. I love the Nation magazine, but good luck getting this miserable app to work on your ipad. I'm a paying online subscriber, but this crappy app continually tells me that I'm out of free articles, must subscribe, etc, -- even when I'm logged in. It's a train wreck. I won't be renewing my subscription.

Needs improvement. You will need a WiFi connection otherwise they are not available and you cannot save for later except by individual arrival. I have a iPad mini which does not offer cellular and it’s the newest model. I like to it on my commute. There also seems to be a disconnect between the magazine and its technology provider. Maz. Although I subscribed it does not recognize my email address. I even changed my password at the Nation website and still no go. My other complaint is, each time you return the app it does not keep your last position. Very annoying. I do love the simplicity. Ability to change the font size would be a plus. The default font auto sizes for the device so the text is still small on a device such as a iPad Air as well as the iPhone.

The Nation. Most thorough article I’ve read on Lula’s victory in Brazil. TY.

A viral publication for the progressive mission. As an academic, the insights offered by the staff writers at THE NATION assist me in preparing for seminars with my students. I frequently offer a course on CONTEMPORARY ISSUES, and discussions of NATION articles and podcasts are common.

You asked. Way left.. but not as right as Fox and the rest.

Real journalism. I’ve been a long time subscriber as well as backing with my dollars. The Nation has been a beacon of truth since I believe since 1865. For a democratic Republic to survive it is paramount that truth should always matter and The Nation is a good place to start in seeking Reason and Logic premises, to process through the mass media.

Sub has NOT expired.. App is fine WHEN IT WORKS. Every couple months, it tells me my sub has expired (it has NOT-- have print+ sub) and I have to jump thru hoops to get app to accept that I have a sub. Getting very tired of this.

The Best. All the important stuff in an unbiased presentation.

App Doesn’t Work. I subscribed to the magazine and digital version, but the app has been nothing but problematic. I tried logging in countless times and it kept timing me out. Not a problem with my internet connection since I disconnected from WIFI to check. The next morning it finally let me log in but doesn’t actually reflect that I’m a paying subscriber and keeps timing me out of articles. I get most of my news via my phone, so the app not working essentially makes my subscription mostly useless. There’s no real excuse for such a poor app on such a great publication. Incredibly disappointing.

Unusable. Cannot sign in no matter how many times I try. I finally gave up.

cannot log in. I subscribed to the digital version. I can access the site successfully on my computer via the website, but the iPhone app will not let me log in. I get an error every time I submit my information. Please fix this!

My Love for the nation.. I seek and enjoy human developments that are interesting and generally missed by the media. The Nation tries to be truthful to even invite popular anger makes it my personal choice to read the critical aspects of our culture. the nation has special insight to hidden and undercurrents of social movements to frame of the emerging facts for women and people of color. Informing the world of mostly unreported changes in society and lead the way for other media to the join the Nation is a marvelous gift to us all. May we celebrate these gifts for an infinite future.

CBDSF. I’m a subscriber but keep getting locked out after 5 minutes. And no way to indicate I subscribe.

The App and the content. The Nation is my go to source of real hardline perspectives and coverage of events! This app lets you view some of the main content. I couldn’t be happier~ William A. Stofer

Love the magazine, the app blows like a Red Hat. It asks you to login when you’re logged in. It’s sensitive. Podcasts from the app stop and the app moves to another article or page at the slightest disturbance (I don’t understand how that happens). This makes it difficult or actually impossible to leave comments.

The app is confused. I can access the articles the app is confused and confusing.

Praise be to these Independent Journalists!. In light of many journalists deaths, we have to be grateful for the important service that they are providing!

30 Year Reader. I’ve been reading the Nation since 1989 and most of those years I’ve been a subscriber. I renewed my subscription in February. Haven’t seen an issue. Not a big deal if I could access the app. But no. No matter how times I change my password I can’t log in. Their subscriber services has been just short of useless helping me. Guess it’s time we part ways. Perhaps Mother Jones or Progressive would be happy to have my business.

The Nation. An essential voice against mendacity and totalitarianism

completely useless. the journalism is amazing but it’s super hard to login and when i eventually logged it, it didn’t recognize my subscription and keeps asking me to subscribe again

The Nation is the best source!. Who could live without it?

The magazine is good but. Consistently the best liberal writing over the last 75 years. Not always correct but honest. The app however is very limited. No resizing hard to read and rudimentary. Really an embarrassment to the editors.

The Nation strikes out.. I’m a left-of-center old-time liberal and chair of my local Democratic organization. I subscribe to The Nation and appreciate its weekly take on the state of the USA and the world. I also subscribe to National Review, the conservative weekly that supports the Republican Party while being ant-Trump from the beginning of that obscene demagogue’s appearance on the political stage. I read NR to be informed about conservative opinion, the better to argue against it. I find I read NR more frequently than The Nation for one main reason: NR has an online daily news update that comes directly to my email. Half the time it’s straight reporting about significant events happening at the moment, often before I hear about them from other sources. The other half is timely and thoughtful opinion pieces. I do wish deeply that The Nation would venture onto something similar from the liberal-progressive viewpoint. Instead it merely reproduces the contents of its weekly magazine. Failure to compete with NR on the platform it now dominates puts their opposition at a disadvantage.

Disgraceful lack of concern for visually impaired. How does a magazine that promotes social justice simply ignore readers with vision issues by publishing with an app with a tiny fixed font size? Really surprised and very disappointed.

Unable to access online subscription. WE

The Nation. One a few publications worth reading👍

Great magazine so-so app. This could really use a adjustable font sizes. Have some consideration for those of us with less than perfect eyesight

The Nation is the Standard. The Nation is the go-to resource for the progressive left. There is simply no better source for issues of social justice. As a proud American Atheist, The Nation serves as my bible and informs my conscience.

Review is the only thing that works. Can’t log in. They asked for my review, her it is. Very short. Can’t log in, therefore worthless!

full of annoying popups. I subscribed to The Nation and regret it. The news articles are goo but the app makes it nearly impossible to read them. Pop-up add triggers and click bate lurk like landmines throughout every article. I do not recommend this app.

Lifeline. Having access to The Nation is a lifeline in the political desert of Ohio.

Dr K. Nothing like the Nation. It’s left, progressive and easy to read. Counterpunch, on line is also a wonder. Follow these two, with Safe and sane action , are how we can get Biden to move left. “Make me do it,” as FDR said , is the way toward a progressive future,

No text size adjustment?!. Why in the world is there no way to increase the text size? I’m for sure getting older but even still it seems like the default/only text size is smaller than most news and magazine apps. This seems like a no-brainer.

App not working. Can’t log in with subscriber info. Now have to use the web page on a browser to access content. Any way subscribers can avoid click bait re: Meghan Markle? It’s a serious disadvantage to offer a non-functioning app to subscribers. It sends a message.

Fine publication, poor app.. Useless app. Longtime reader with continuous problems connecting to my account. What’s the point of a digital subscription when you have limited access?

Truth. I’m hungry for unbiased news. I believe I have found it.

Favorite Magazine Ever. I use my iPhone to read this magazine out loud to me. Love it!!!!!!!!!

Agreed: this app does not work. The older reviews seems to indicate that the app works but is a little buggy. The current version (10.0) does not seem to work at all. I had customer support reset my password twice, but I still cannot login. I give up. Please fix this app or refund my digital subscription.

Great content but....... The web interface is very annoying. You have to create our account on a computer not on a mobile device. It does not work with a password manager and they insist you accept reselling your info. Whoever set this up must be a very unconnected Luddite. We are discontinuing online viewing

Tired of logging in. I really enjoy the nation but I’m tired of having log into my app

Good ecological good news source. I feel good about reading timely informative articles without wasting paper and ink. The Nation is always at hand with this app.

Facts & Fun. I appreciate the ability to read the news, analysis and insightful articles that fit into a busy life. Stay strong!

App isn’t even “terrible”. Can’t login so what’s the point of spending the extra money on an digital subscription when you can’t use it. Come on nation this stuff ain’t hard.

Useless app. Unable to log in. Contacted customer support. No reply. Apparently I’m not the only one having this issue. This reflects poorly on the publication.

The nation. The best that happened to me subscribing to the Nation.

Awful - Login page doesn't function.. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The app told me (a new subscriber) to log in as an existing user. So I did. Several times. All I get is a message saying that it can't find my account. Meh.

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Adios. I deleted this app and downloaded PDFs of print issues. On my new iPad the contents don't display correctly, so at least the PDF is reliable.

Garbage. This app is garbage. I've paid for a subscription online, it works online. The app doesn't recognize my subscription, no matter how many times I delete it and reinstall. It's too bad, since I bought the subscription thinking I could read it on the train in the morning when I don't have service. So disappointed.

I thought it was just me.... Glad I finally took the time to read these reviews. I thought it was just my generally negative technical mojo. Now if we can just get the app people from The Nation to read the reviews and fix it. Just so there is no confusion, I agree with the majority opinion of the reviewers. This is by far the worst app I have ever used and should be an absolute embarrassment to the editors of the Nation. I am not ready to cancel my subscription yet, but something needs to be done soon. I cannot login, renew or do anything related to my account and I am definitely not alone in this.

Incompatible with its own content. This is the worst of hundreds of iPhone apps that I have used. It's content is always the "wrong version" even though the user has no control over versions. It cannot be used offline. There are no usable bookmarks. Jumping from contents to an article often lands on an ad; the article cannot be found. The magazine is top notch and deserves a better platform on the iPhone. I will not be renewing my iTunes subsciption.

Please fix. Please, please, please fix. I have a nation subscription that I cannot use because the app crashes every time I try to open an issue. This has not been working for months. It is more than about time you released an update that fixes the problem.

Crap App. This app is useless. Does nothing but send you around in circles. If you want to read The Nation forget the digital subscription. You'll be wasting your money and your time. Go for the paper subscription instead. And shame on The Nation for even putting this app out there.

Not too bad. I have a print subscription, and just created a user id and password online using a desktop computer and the web interface. Then I downloaded the app onto my iPad and logged in. The whole process was strange and unwieldy, but I was successful. The app appears to be designed for use only when connected to wifi. It seems to download pieces of the magazine on demand instead of downloading the whole thing. Navigation is also peculiar, but I have been able to figure it out. I am a software engineer and very familiar with the peculiarities of web and app interfaces, so maybe I have less trouble than most would. I view every strange user interface with suspicion and the expectation that it will be fragile. I must say, I would rather read the print issue. If I can figure out how to get entire issues downloaded at once instead of piecemeal, I might try to use it to read offline.

Great content, wretched app. I've been a subscriber for two weeks, and both times now a new issue was available, the app wants me to pay again for the single issue. Yes, I'm logged in, etc. Ugh. I just can't understand how in this day and age, media companies can provide content as great as The Nation's, but then set up barriers like a half-assed app to getting that content to their readers. Do better!

Horrible antiquated app. I downloaded the App and then paid for my subscription thru Apple like I have with a few magazines and journals. I get confirmation from Apple that my money has been debited. But I cannot get the app to let me register and use the service. It goes in circles. Of course they do not have a call center that has technical trouble shooters beyond 6pm. How do I get my money back?

Terrible app - canceling digital subscription. I subscribed for two year term with The Nation digital. This app has not updated the issues in weeks and the newer issues are not available. Customer Support at The Nation does not return ANY email requests for assistance. I'm canceling my subscription. Awful app and customer service!

App needs some work...... I'm also relieved to see some of these reviews and learn the problems aren't unique on my end. You pay extra for this digital subscription, in my case to save paper, but you'd think it would also bring some measure of convenience. Instead, I see another app offers new issues #before# the Nation, there is some mysterious message telling me the version of the app I'm using isn't the latest and there may be formatting"issues," (and there are), but no clear way to upgrade. Plus, I've had to phone the office a few times to re-activate my subscription when it had't expired but I was being prompted to by issues. There appears to be no way to correct something Ike that online, I hope the Natipn app developers will look into this!,,,,,

Beware!. This app is poorly designed and doesn't work well. Once you sign up for automatic yearly withdraws, beware. There is no way to stop them. There is no place on the app to manage or cancel the subscription. If you try calling the "support" number, they give you the run around and ultimately don't help either. Contacting Apple didn't help either, they said it was beyond their control. After two years trying to cancel this subscription, they are still taking out 20 bucks outta my account once a year. Beware

Can't activate at all. Worst magazine app ever. App won't let me register. Customer service rep couldn't help at all. She rudely told me that IT was not available and condescendingly explained " there's a time difference between east and west coasts", and stated that I should try later in the week!! Cancelling my subscription

The worst. Not sure if it is the magazine or the app but it is impossible to get to the meat of The Nation. Sad, too. I called and got the run-around. “Did you get your subscription from iTunes or from us?” It was like they help you differently depending on where you get your subscription. I can’t log in, even when I change my pw electronically. And how many times do I need to see the same issue cover?

Font size. I had been buy individual issues using Nook which worked fine. When I subscribed I got this app. It works ok except you can't adjust the font display size. It's a bit small on my phone.

Why?. I have the same issue as other users. I have a digital subscription and an account. But app doesn't show any issues for me to read without paying additional $.

The Nation must have forgotten they have an app. I don't know what's going on with this app. First, it's cumbersome to log in. Then, even though I paid for a subscription, I still have to pay for issues. It's as if the Nation has forgotten about the app, or zero-ed out maintenance for it. The mobile website is way better. You can do everything you need on the mobile website.

Just stick with the dead tree version. App is worthless. Impossible to convince it you have an active subscription. Just stick with the dead tree version of The Nation until/unless they ever manage to fix it.

Don't buy through iTunes. You can only read the magazine articles with the app. Digital articles published by the Nation are not available to you and you will not have an account with the Nation through iTunes. Get your subscription through the web directly from the Nation instead.

App broken no access. Can't access mag since revamp. Don't bother subscribing thru iTunes. Amazingly bad updat as it sheds its iTunes customers. Adding insult to injury their website has no record of my direct subscription. No explanation from the magazine for a month. They have lost this subscriber!!!!!!!!

It doesn't work. I got the app. I logged in as a subscriber successfully but I still have to purchase a subscription. No recognition that I already have one. This only succeeds in creating bad feelings about the magazine which can be responsibly resolved by creating an app that works properly and is backed up by support from the Nation, not iTunes. (Yeah right) Anyway another app bites the dust.

Lost an Hour Trying to Fix an Issue. This is the worst app I've ever worked with. My latest issue opened the previous issue instead and could never get it to work. Customer 'service' told me to call iTunes (yeah, right). I insisted on talking to digital support, told to remove and reinstall the app and that I wouldn't need a log in because I purchased sub through iTunes. That didn't work and I am locked out of my existing sub. I cancelled iTunes renewal and signed up through the Nation and will try again.

Frustrating. This magazine doesn't like me. I tried to read it with this app but it only lets me see advertisements. I tried using the other app they offer but it was very difficult to use and see. I like the magazine, given the bit I can read sometimes but had to quit my subscription as there seems to be no way to read it on my ipad2. They need technical first aid.

Broken App. Can’t subscribe. Why not? Looks bad.

Incredibly slow downloads. I'm on a 50mbps fios connection and the 150mb file is currently about a third of the way done after an hour of downloading. This is my third attempt at downloading it. This should take 10-15 seconds on my connection. My email to their tech support has gone unanswered for over 4 days. I love the content of this magazine, but this attempt at an app is pathetic. Don't waste your time.

Really needs attention. Signing on using the app is EXTREMELY frustrating. A banner pops up every time telling one that activation is required, even after following all the steps. Had to contact customer service and was assured that this was a known problem. But nothing is being done. Reluctant to ding with one star but this really is hurting the experience. Please fix immediately.

More misery. As much as I love the Nation, I'm dumbfounded by the ineptitude of the magazine's attempts to grapple with the digital age. With every new update of the app there are problems with logging in, downloading issues, and now with even simply seeing the text. It almost makes one wonder if an organization this seemingly befuddled can be trusted in their writing!

Updated app doesn't work. Agree with the other reviewers, I tried multiple times to 'log in' but didn't change anything, and issues haven't been updated in weeks. Please fix this.

Crashes When Offline!. With latest version, app crashes when offline, immediately after attempting to open a previously downloaded issue. Makes the app useless for reading on subway, plane, or wherever there's no connection. Please fix!!

I want my money back!. This is the absolute worst.

I agree with everyone else. I love The Nation, and I don't regret subscribing. However, I would like to be able to access the digital archives through this app. Additionally, this isn't very user friendly, especially to try and read an issue. I love he website, but this needs a LOT of work.

Great publication poor digital presentation. Also you can't remove issues if you try (option under hear icon) the app crashes. Have to delete app and all issues to save space. If this worked I'd give this 2 stars

Workaround. I've just started downloading a PDF from the Nation website. You have to be logged in to see the link on the current issue page, but it's there. Then I just AirDrop it onto my iPad. Hope that helps someone!

Great magazine, but do not sign up through the app!!. Love the content and news articles in the magazine and the apps functionality. However, DO NOT SIGN UP THROUGH ITUNES or their app. The Nation does not give you access to their webpage if you sign up this way despite it being the same price on iTunes or through its app. Sign up first on their webpage to get access to all their content for the same price. Very disappointing to hear about this today.

Awkward. Not easy to use

App is broken. Don't bother downloading this app. I just purchased a digital subscription a few hours ago and the app still prompts me to pay for a new subscription. Poorly designed, hard to use, but worst of all is it's unacceptable lack of the most basic functionalities.

TRUMP IMPEACHED?. Possible through actions like this app. It was started by students of activism and progressives. They are learning how to communicate there ideals through this app into the main stream. Please look on the broader horizon of things and look at what they are doing and talking about. This app started in 2016 and so did their resistance school in Cambridge. They are trying to guide our future generations into the right path. Not more monopolistic indoctrinated society's that create a behind the scenes republican monarchy.

Tiny Font. Larger font, please!! Impossible to read without a magnifying glass 🔍.

*** Avoid this App ***. Not getting issues, beyond the first one in my one-year subscription through Newsstand. Any further issues require further payment! Attempts to resolve through iTunes and The Nation were negligible and unresponsive, respectively. Such a pity for a magazine I otherwise like.

An app as good as any other magazine. The app is as good or as bad as any other app relegated to other magazines. One simply has to be subscribed before one may use the app. As a subscriber one registers with the Nation magazine's website and creates an account. Then and only then one can use the app and access the wealth of material available both in the current and previous issues.

The Nation Magazine. Whenever I try to read a long article, especially in the section "Books and the Arts," the app crashes at the same spot in the article each time I try to read it. It's very frustrating and so far I haven't received any response when I've tried to contact the magazine to get it fixed. Since I subscribe mostly for the longer articles, this is a deal-breaker; I'm thinking of canceling my subscription if it can't be fixed.

Unbeatable. The place for progressives to get relevant news and analysis.

Great magazine. Great app. Now that everything is running smoothly I couldn't be happier.

The best. The best journalism today

Breathtakingly Bad.... Where to begin... The issue format is different than the app, I know this because a warning pops up every time I open an issue. You can't read issues offline. When offline, the app closes itself. When downloading an issue, you have to keep the app open, if it closes, it stops downloading. As good as the Nation is, this app is as bad.

Fix It.. Haven't finished a single article since the iOS update. The Nation is antics crazy balance to my normal news feed. Just need the app to start working again.

A disgusting app. I purchased the subscription but app showed none i tried to contact customer service but received zero response. I should have trust the reviews here. This app is disgusting. Save yourself from a bad headache, don't download it and do not subscribe to the magazine.

Nation! Step it up!. The UI is terrible, signing on to the app for the first time user is a lame experience! As a digital subscriber Why do we not have access to all issues as stated when enrolling? The app is an utter waste. Use the web site and leave it at that. If anyone from the Nation sees this; you guys need to step it up and invest the appropriate amount of money into making a fluidly, intuitive and functional modern app. This is embarrassing! How on earth do you expect to stay afloat? Even your ads don't work! I wanted to learn more about the Domini fund, tapped on the ad and was taken to a white, blank page - no web site. If I was them I'd be rather perturbed.

Terrible App. The app does not format the content correctly and the content is unreadable. When you pay for something you expect it to work. Don't buy the digital subscription until they fix their problems.

Mr. Terry. - The content is very good. - The navigation seems a bit cumbersome, although the horizontal/vertical swiping model makes sense. - The text is too small and there is no obvious way to adjust it, even in the app's settings.
