The last update was a major step backwards. The last update was a major step backwards and the current app no longer works.

Taunton steals your money. This revised app will lose all your purchased issues. They say contact customer service in he review above. What a joke. I've tried twice and they ignore me. I have over three years of issues that I can no longer access. Unlike others, I was able to log in and use the "restore purchases" function, but no purchases are restored. DO NOT download this app. If you do, record everything you've purchased in the past because they'll steal it from you.

Don’t subscribe via app. Don’t subscribe via their app. Its a ripoff. They charge same as print subscription and do not mail you the magazine. If you subscribe to print edition the digital is free. The subscription page in app is very misleading

New App does not work on my I-pad but works on 4S I-phone. This app does not work as it should on my I-pad. I cannot get it to restore previous purchases I know I made. It also does not allow me to enter an ID number like it does on my I-phone. Contacted Taunton Press and they said they have no record of my purchases and I need to go through ITunes. Sorry to see others are having same problem.

Terrible app. Won’t work without an Internet connection. I downloaded all the magazines I wanted to read on a plane flight and the app won’t even open without an Internet connection. I have to download again every time I open the app. It takes about a hundred tries to come up with a nickname to post a review

Not Perfect, But No Issues. While not perfect, the app isn’t giving me the issues noticed by others. It does have some quirks. For example, if you choose to Restore Purchases, it will only restore the items you have purchased through the app. In order to restore items from a print or digital subscription purchased through Fine Woodworking, you’ll need to login in order for those issues to appear. You can then download the ones you want. Looking forward to future app enhancements.

Very unstable. Aug 2017 Still very buggy and newest update doesn't even load. They need a new IT person. Until fixed, should be removed from App Store. Tried emailing for support w/o success. Downgraded to one star From several years ago Full of bugs, had to download three times, hard to navigate as inconsistent responses to finger gestures. Love the print edition. This is a disaster. Freezes, can't easily navigate, it's the only e-magazine I have that is bad. All the others work fine. They should show the same care in doing this as they do in their woodworking projects.

Tools & Shops issues cost extra? Fixed!. Happy to see that the annual Tools & Shops issues that are part of the print subscription are now included at no extra cost in the new version of the iPad app. Thanks!

Login. This app will not let you login into your subscription. The app needs a lot of work.

App is a consistent failure. Never recognizes passwords. Never!! Will not allow paid subscribers to read magazines. There’s no one home to help you as they don’t bother responding to inquiries for help. Complete and total failure from Tauton. It’s like they don’t care at all.

Missing issues, customer service horrible.. I hated the new app when it was pushed on me, I lost at least a years worth of magazines (would be forced to pay for them, not just redownloading them) that I had under the old app. I contacted customer service with Taunton and gave them my order number for a digital subscription and was basically told that they confirmed the start date of my subscription, but then blamed the developer of the app and said there’s nothing they can do, but that I should look for an app update to fix the issue. The app update came and still no fix. I recently updated to iOS11 and now the app is useless. Taunton and the app developer both need to get their act together and make this stupid app work. The ONLY reason I still have a subscription is that I love the content.

Doesn’t work. I have an unlimited subscription but it only allows me to read the last 2 issues. The rest say “buy”. “Restore” doesn’t - just gives me an error. No help from customer service, they dont even respond to my emails.

Congrats guys first review gonna. Happy you guys made your content even easier to use. Keep up the stellar work Sam from north Idaho

The best magazine ever on the subjects. I think this magazine is tops. The illustrations are beautifully rendered and the articles are superbly reasoned. This was the best review ever. Thank you.

This app is more than useless. I have an article I have access to pulled up on my laptop. I want to take it to the shop so I go to pull it up in the app. Nope no such luck. Can’t find it in search can’t look up the issue. Actually worse than a browser.

It's Great, When It Works. It doesn't work at all on my tablet. Customer service said it was my problem. On my iPhone when tap on an area I get sent to something between the app and the website. The only way back to the app, is to completely close the app and restart it.

Doesn’t work on older devices. I have tried to send feedback to Taunton via their apps and via the web site, but neither works (I have screen shots if someone at Taunton wants details) so have resorted to a review. The new version of this app is a big step backward. The biggest problem for me that I am not seeing the latest issue of the magazine on older devices. I have an old iPad in my shop and there’s no way I’m going to replace it just for this. It used to work just fine. Another problem is that they have not thoroughly tested offline use. A couple of days ago I was away from net access and went to read the mag. It would not show me an issue I had previously downloaded because it could not connect to their site. Both of these are unacceptable. If these are not fixed by the the time my membership is up for renewal in a few months, I won’t be renewing. And they should fix the feedback/contact mechanisms too. I’m posting the exact same review for both FWW and FHB.

It works better!. Some say it lost their purchases. No, you have them in the cloud, people. Yes you have to re-download them, ooooh sad! You can read in landscape mode and I think generally it performs faster and better. An improvement. And no, Taunton isn't taking your money and no, I don't work for them, I'm just another poor old woodworker like you.

Poor app. Suddenly there is no way to purchase an issue. I click on the purchase button and all I get is a “restore purchases” dialogue box.

No issues available. Again this app has failed. Now it has zero content. Only an error message. Don’t waste your money. The wood magazine and woodcraft never have complications or missing issues.

Doesn’t work offline. If you let the app activate on a network it works. But if you launch it even with downloaded content while offline, no dice. Wish they would transition to the Apple News+ model instead of this awful experience.

Simple online magazine reader.. This is an easy to use online magazine reader. It shows your subscribed issues and lets you download them for offline reading. Images are high resolution. Layout is the same as the print version so of course that is a factor on small screens but on an iPad, it’s awesome. A great benefit.

Waste of time. I paid for the unlimited version so that I could have access to all the old magazines. Problem is all this app will let you view is the current month. You can see and even view the first few pages of older editions but to get one of the older magazines in its entirety it wants you to pay 8.99. I am logged in and it shows that I am paid through 2020. Best bet is to go to the website which is still very user unfriendly and go to the member area. Again and this is speaking professionally, both items web and this app work as if they were created by a beginner so if you are frustrated by websites and apps that are not intuitive stay away from this company’s products. They do have great woodworking information, it’s just frustrating to get to it.

Useless app!. Since last fall I have not been able to consistently read issues of either Fine Woodworking or Fine Homebuilding on my apps. Customer support is awful. They sent me temporary all caps passwords that did not work because they did not meet their own requirement of a mixture of upper and lower case letters, special characters, etc. I constantly get the “buy” magazine button instead of the “read” button. Once my subscriptions expire, I am NOT resubscribing.

Long time reader. Been reading Fine woodworking since the early 80’s. It’s always been the gold standard for woodworking publications

"Our records do not show.... ...a subscription for you." All previous PAID FOR issues not accessible. Next time I will go through Zinio. No more magazine apps or native iOS apps. Taunton FAIL.

FWW NEWS. Toured Normandy France during the D day celebrations this year and took a side trip to Paris where we walked around the Notredamn cathedral. There is a hugh amount of wood working going on there to rebuild the church after the fire. I’d like to forward some pictures I took there for your review to see if you’d have any interest in creating an article for the magazine. The work is not fine furniture woodworking but the scale of the work is very impressive and exacting. I need an email address to send the pictures if you are interested. Thanks. Ron Steis

Buy!?. I spent a boatload of money for an unlimited access subscription which is supposed to include full access to archives of “everything” they’ve ever published. Website seems to work ok, but this app wants me to pay 8-10$ an issue. Is this greed or incompetence?

App fails to load on iOS 13 device after latest app update. App crashes right after launch

Either give me my purchased products back or give me my money back!. Did anyone at Taunton bother to test this first? I suspect the answer to that is no. After selecting "Restore Purchases" the app states "33 products successfully restored". The problem is, they weren't. Only one, count em, one was restored. The app still indicates that I must repurchase all of the Tools and Shops issues, as well as a Tables and Chairs issue that I previously purchased. After sending an email and calling Customer Service, all I get is an email reply that they are sorry and they are investigating the problem. It has been weeks now and still no change. Taunton advertises a 100% money back guarantee ...well Taunton, either give me ALL of the products I've purchased or give me my money back! BTW, same problem with the Fine Homebuilding app!

Great update. I like the new interface. Very responsive when interacting with magazine pages. Downloads seem faster too. Thanks!

Doesn't work on my iPad. Just downloaded the update and it doesn't work. I go to log in with email and it tells me I'm not a user. I used every email address I have and same result. Just wasted money as I now have no access to any of the issues or other stuff I bought. BEWARE this is a rip off.

How to fix the lost purchases. To those complaining about the previous purchases not showing up after restoring them from your account. Here’s how I got them back. I ‘killed’ the app (ie double click home, then swipe the app up ) and then started it again. After that it seems to be working fine. To the developers, you really need to do a better job at quality assurance.

App Functioning Properly?. I love the magazine. It is one of my favorites. I often read it on the iPad, too. However, of late I cannot access it. THis is a problem that needs correction. The app will not recognize my user I’d and password even though I changed it on the web site. This happens every so often without warning. Quite frustrating. Please fix it!

Unlimited still trying to make me pay per issue. Unlimited doesn’t work with this app. It’s still trying to charge me $8.99 per issue.

Doesn’t work with Unlimited subscription. I bought the Fine Woodworking Unlimited subscription and can read issues on the web, but not in the app. That’s really disappointing because I can’t download them to be available offline.

They restored a grand total of 5 old magazines. Dealing with them is incredibly painful. They said they restored but when you click restore it goes off to somewhere for a minute then says restored. Then you go to download and maybe you have one to download. Then you go try more restore ok loops and it does not have one to download. Why oh why can’t I do one restore for all my magazines then go download? It has been well over a month dealing with non responsive support. They lie when they say your magazines won’t be lost with the new app.

Update wrecked my history. Ran the update, lost all the previous issues and can not longer log in to retrieve them, contacted Fine Woodworking and they say they have no record i ever had previous subscription.... Not a happy camper :(

Don’t waste your time. I’ve downloaded this app a few times to see if they’ve fixed it. Nope. I’ve been a subscriber for awhile now. You’re supposed to get free digital access as a subscriber. The app still wants to charge me $8.99 for an issue that was part of my subscription. It’s done this every time.

Upgrade takes away all old issues and purchases. I guess I should have listened to the numerous 1 star reviews. When I upgraded I lost all past issues and purchases and 0 restored when I used the "restore" feature. I am unable to download from cloud as it asks me to buy them again. Do not upgrade!

Complete trash. The app will not let me log in to view the digital content and support has been useless. When reporting the issue they send me information on how to log in. Whoever is writing this app also needs to learn how to display friendly error messages and not the exact error message generated.

Still Glitchy.... Edited Review: FW seems to have solved the missing issues problem, I'll add one extra star for that. Next problem up is that the feature where you could jump directly to an article from the circles that briefly radiate intermittently works. Turning your iPad from portrait to landscape takes you straight back to the cover?! Is this intentional?? Programmers, sharpen your pencils... P.S. To the reviewer who thinks some of us are idiots for highlighting the problem of missing issues: please; we know how to restore and retrieve from the cloud. The feature WAS NOT working initially.

What’s the point?. I fail to see the point of this app. I have an unlimited membership and I thought I would be able to access all the articles and videos that come with the membership. Nope. What I see is just the latest magazine. I already have the print version. On the phone, there is no good way to access the membership site other that typing in the website address in either Safari or Chrome. Not that this is difficult but hey, there is an app - link the two! Fine Woodworking is the premier woodworking magazine. Hands down. But this app is completely lacking.

Flawed Software. If I could give 0 stars I would. I never write reviews but will make an exception. Software doesn’t function properly. Tried to speak with customer support. Spoken down to as though I’m an idiot incapable of signing into a simple app only to confirm that there is in fact a problem. Told the first time I’d hear back in 24 hours. After 48 hours I was told that’s just an estimate. Entirely unable to use digital subscription.... extremely poor service delivery.

Poor customer service. Do not buy any type of service, product, or subscription from this company. It’s deceptive and you will be be taken advantage of.

Latest version crashes immediately. I’ve been trying ever since the update. I can’t get to any issue.

'FINE' Woodworking - 'POOR' App. What happened? I can't read this month's magazine? At first it was 'ok', it downloaded, but the quality was pretty poor. Now, it won't even open, just the 'wagon wheel' of nothing going on.

Can’t Login. I have a subscription to Fine Woodworking. Beautiful publication. This app however will not let me login. Contacted Taunton’s support - canned response about “how to” login using one’s email address on file. I have gotten 4-5 different error messages from “not registered” to server errors, etc. Subscribe to the print magazine - BUT don’t expect this POS app to do anything more than create frustration. Waste of time.

App doesn’t retain downloads.. Every time I open the app to read one of the issues I previously downloaded they have all been deleted and I have to download them again. This happens over & over again. What a horrible design. Won’t be renewing my subscription if I have to re-download all issues every time I open the app.

Customer Service No Help. I have been a print subscriber for thirty year. Recently the iPad App will not let me login and see my purchases. Three emails to customer service have not been answered. A call did not to them did help the problem. I am very dissatisfied.

Excellent magazine, poor digital organisation. Fine woodworking is an excellent magazine, one I have subscribed to both physically and digitally. Unfortunately there are repeated issues that have not been addressed over a number of years. There renewal system always messes up. They send out reminders months in advance, then don’t send out one when needed. Their renewal site invariably has issues. At the moment it’s erroring on 3 different browser types. There are repeated issues with the application wiping content that has been downloaded previously. Where I live not having data / wifi connection is the norm. Reliable offline reading of previously downloaded content is essential. I’d give this magazine 5+ for content, 4 for digital presentation and 0 for resolving issues with downloads and renewals. 3 on average seems generous given the importance of the problems.

Informative Magazine. Best of the best and the best.

Useless and disappointing. Note that the other reviews are years old. The new app makes you download every issue every time you open it if it has been disconnected from the wifi even for five minutes. It completely wipes all issues every time. I have sent five messages to customer care and contact us as the same bug was there about a year ago and they got back to me, treated me very respectfully and fixed the problem. Now, the same problem is back and they simply seem to be ignoring me completely. Not even a reply to say thanks, we’re working on a solution. Nothing. I never leave a bad review unless I am completely unable this find another way and find I am forced to give 0 stars to this app and their customer service. I just want to be able to see what I’ve spent good money buying from them and this is simply not good enough. I’m sorry but the refusal to reply to my problem in any way has me quite upset now and thus this review. Dishonest behaviour, I have paid for my magazines, why must I redownload them every time I leave the house and when I’m sitting at the doctors or wherever, the app just refuses to open unless I connect it to an active service. So much for reading when I’m offline, that simply doesn’t happen. Please FWW, help, Please, Please give us what we have already paid you for, Please

Re-downloading magazine problems. I’ve had this issue for awhile, every time I enter the app I have to re-download the magazines that I have already purchased a subscription for it makes it very tedious when you use an iPad that only relies on Wi-Fi, meaning that you can only read the magazines when you have Internet

A great mag!. Love the read. Informative and interesting.

I have lost all of my back issues. I cancelled my subscription when I was unable to download that were available to buy. The most recent updates have resulted in me being unable to access any of my back issues - I was a subscriber for many years, so that is hundreds of dollars worth of magazines - restore purchases no longer seems to work - I will not make this mistake again.

Really easy. Such a nice simple e-magazine

Excellent quality. Great enhancement of the paper product.

Fine wood working. Great magazine, duplicates the newsstand version beautifully

Current version won't even start up!!!!. The app has completely stopped working. You try to open it up and it says there are no issues. Email support and they say that they know it's an issue and to use their website - if you know about it, fix it!

Pairing. I have one IPad and one iPhone but cant utilize only one at a time. Is it possible to log on both? Thinking about not renewing my subscription...

App works fairly well. Best magazine app I use. I like the extensive yet unobtrusive hyperlink systems placed throughout the content.

Does not work when off-line. This new version of the Fine Woodworking app is very disappointing. I have downloaded many of my previously purchased digital issues but I am not able to use the 'table of contents' when not connected to the internet. I also find the interface of this new application less user-friendly than the older one.

Anyone else having app problems. Anyone having problems with the app, I have Fine Cooking, Fine Homebuilding and Fine Woodworking and all apps seam to have the same problem quite often of closing when scrolling trough the magazines. Live their magazines, but when they close up for no apparent reason you need to reopen them and re scroll to find your location. Very annoying. App performance 1 star, magazine articles I would say 4.5 to 5 star. Please look at fixing this app.

Wont give me the online content. Dont buy this, best to subscribe via the website (you get all the online content then. If you get this app all you ge is the magazine

Won't load - buy with caution. The app loaded fine until they took my $35 for a subscription. Immediately after paying the app crashes on startup. I have the newest iPad. Reboot didn't help. Now to try and get a refund.

Nothing Free. Downloaded and immediately deleted this app everything in it cost you money you must have a subscription to even review it waste of time.

latest version hangs and never opens in ios 8.0.2. It would be nice if some testing had been done before it was released. Hangs. But even before that: very annoying app: the constant flashing page by page of every possible linkable item is visually annoying and cannot be turned off. Download of issues takes forever, and even once the issue is downloaded, it takes forever (10 minutes) to open. lets hear it for paper...

Won't even load. Wow. Unreal don't download.

Constant registration. I love the app when it works. It constantly makes me renew my registration and is asking me to buy copies I have already downloaded. Dave

Fine woodworking magazine..E version. Exceptional magazines. Love reading them. The electronic version means I can take them with me anywhere. Thanks FWW

Badly tested. This app is slow and crashes often, very annoying. The articles are ok but the app seems not ready for release yet.

Very poor app. I'm using IOS 10 on my ipad, and this app crashes so regularly it makes a digital subscription pretty much useless, unless you have a great deal of patience and don't mind restarting the app after approximately every 60 pages. Thankfully I'm on my 14 day trial period, so I'll be canceling. If this company cannot make a better app they should allow customers to download the magazine and read it via iBooks. Very disappointed!

Great magazine. Love the way it auto links to the extras for me. Also love how it saves on my iPad so I can read away from wifi

Error on login. Looks like no matter what, you get a programming error when you try to login. Too bad, was hoping for mobile access to the content I paid for.

Probably the worst iPhone app ever. The paranoia of FWM and their publisher puts a blemish on this wonderful magazine. Going online is GREAT, but putting this much complexity and control into an online publication is so 1950s. Get it together FWM before You become the 2010s Dodo bird. My recommendation: borrow an issue from your friend that gets a print version.

Nice idea, not well executed. Fine woodworking is a nice magazine, lots of info, well researched and presented. However, this app is unusable for me. I'm living rural where the only option for internet is via cell phone towers. This means very expensive data plans. I can get over the large downloads per issue, but not over having to re-download issues over and over again. After every update of the app it looses all issues. Making a full backup doesn't help. Issues are not back upped. Also subscription info is lost after updates. Disturbing. This all is too bad, since the readability is good (e.g. compare with the pdf versions of Pop Wood). A bit annoying are the bullet indicators of links. Visually I don't like them, but that might be just me. Sometimes there are many on one page, too many to remember. You have to reload the page to see where they all are. Defeats the purpose I think.

Good content. The online version of FW provides readers with some enhanced features like videos of projects and links to vendors websites. This reviewer likes the portable nature of an e version. As the magazine matures in this medium, one hopes it will offer more online content linked to stories. Using the app to migrate through FW's paywall on their website to access additional content on the FW website is very much a work-in-progress and FW would do their readers / customers a great service by improving this aspect of their magazine. 3 stars for the photos, the text and the featured videos / vendor websites.

Slowdown. As soon as I installed this app, I received a warning that "This application may slow your iPad. The developer needs to improve this app to resolve performance issues" ... as a result I promptly deleted it.

User Friendly. While I would agree that the magazines are a little slow in loading, I believe that it is because of all of the enhanced content (I.e. Blinking) that allows me to jump straight to other content and or web pages with additional information. I have enjoyed having this content travel with me as I shop or plan my next project.

Great way to access the mag electronically. Nice layout and works well. No complaints.

Only magazine, no other web features. Nice magazine app. But seeing as how Fine Woodworking has a robust website that features many useful articles and videos, quite disappointed that this app limits you to only the magazines.

Not Impressed. This app is so slow I usually have time to cut the lawn before the issue downloads. The constantly flashing links are terribly annoying. Taunton, you need to rethink this!

Very nice digital magazine.. I love having the magazine on my iPad

Slow!. This app is incredibly slow to download and once downloaded crashes often. Contact page for email in their subscription centre does not work after trying multiple times on different days. Not acceptable!

Excellent resource. A treasure trove of fine woodworking knowledge. Looks beautiful and is user friendly.

Don't subscribe through the app.... If you get the online membership from their website, they throw in the digital edition for free. If you get the digital edition first though, you'll be stuck paying twice. The app works well enough, but I had to dock them a few stars for not making this clear anywhere - I had to call customer service to get a straight answer.

Clunky App. I am both a print and Internet subscriber. I find that the app does not perform smoothly. Once you purchase something there should be an area it will go - instead of having to flip through multiple old issues to get to what you want. Also the app has trouble recognizing the subscription status. It's in their instruction that when you purchase the electronic subscription that once you log in all back issues will be available to you. WRONG NOT WITH THIS APP.

Finewoodworking app. I really like the ability to access Finewoodworking on my I pad. Like the ability to be able to review articles when I find myself waiting for appointments etc. Easy to read and quality of the electronic version is very good. I have a problems with loosing my downloaded magazines and have had to re load the app and all of my electronic copies on more than one occasion. Wish that this could be corrected. I am sure I would use it more if it ran more smoothly and I didn't need to re load so often.

FWW online got worse. When I started my online subscription, I was a happy camper. PDF versions of each article was available for download. You could print the important pages for use in the shop. That has been stolen away from us with no price reduction. It has been replaced with a ridiculous digital version that forces stupid rings to pop up every time you turn a page. Some dingleberry actually got patted on the back by management for introducing this juvenile and distracting feature. I am now disgusted evey time I turn a page. I am now angry at not being able to print what I need for use in the shop. FWW has cheapened its product to the point where I question whether or not I will renew. Oh that's right, we are automatically renewed. I called FWW and told them to remove my credit card from their files, as it is a potential source of identity theft. I was told in no uncertain terms that FWW intends to keep my cc info on file and refuses to delete it. So now FWW has decided that they, not we, are in control of who can store our cc. I see this as an unwelcome invasion of my personal information. I hope others feel the same way and complain. If not, then perhaps I'm being a jerk for complaining about not getting what I originally signed up for, and about the storage of my personal financial information by a 3rd party who feels they are entitled to it.

Always a fine read. I have been a subscribers since the 80's and have thoroughly enjoyed the magazine for years. The digital content only improves the experience.

Love it but like the paper print as well. I really like the app but enjoy getting the paper print and online membership. It appears they are persuading the online version and membership only. I actually like collecting the magazines and looking back through them even months and years later. Stick with the paper print and give the option for online as a bonus.

Amazing resolution. The app works for me and I can see all of the tiny details that make it easier to actually complete a project. Between that and the video and photo additions my FWW print subscription just came alive.

Love the content, but the app is lacking. Having only recently subscribed to FWWM, there's so much content to take in its overwhelming. Fortunately, their website is set up very well and makes viewing articles simple and intuitive, however the app needs some work. If all you want to read are recent issues, then you're fine, but when you start working back to older issues and purchasing those, it becomes more difficult. as another reviewer said, navigating issues is tough because you can only view the cover of one issue at a time and you must swipe to navigate. say you want to view something 20 issues ago, you have to swipe 20 times before you reach it. a compact list view of all issues, search functionality, and sorting (standard issue, special issue, etc) are small changes that would drastically improve the user's experience of this app. for those reasons, I have to rate the app a 3 (not the content, which is easily a 5).

What am I paying for if I can’t see the magazines without paying?. Fix the app!please!

Save the forests for woodworking. The magazine is one of the best ever produced. Great articles and tip supplements. The supplement on jigs is a treasure. Since it is such a big magazine with super photography and drawings there is a compulsion to keep all the old issues this creating a conflict with my fastidious wife. The on line version costs almost exactly the same as the print version. I think that policy should be reviewed by the publisher because I think it discourages on line subscriptions. The on line version has direct links to the valuable tutorials and product reviews. You can also get this directly from the publisher's website of you are a print subscriber, but with some inconvenience. There are a few other things the publisher could do to make this app more iPad friendly, but maybe that will happen over time. Specifically, I wish there were some way to print articles directly from the app. I have to take a screen shot and print each page separately from my iPad. Taunton Press are you reading this? The paperless app helps save the forests for better purposes like woodworking.

Great app but......... It would be nice if when buying a paper copy you could enter a unique ID from magazine to have access to it in digital format but other than that it's a great app that does what it should.

Expected to buy editions even with subscription. I downloaded this app after purchasing both an online and paper subscription. One would think that with the "free access to hundreds of plans and previous editions" that is promised with a subscription would be transferable to the app (same material, right?). It turns out that it is not. You are only provided rights to material that has been released within your subscription window and are expected to purchase access to previous issues ($8 each). It doesn't make any sense that I would be able to read an issue in my browser (unideal format) but have to pay for it using the app where the format would be much more readable. This is an insulting business practice. Shame.

New app loses all your purchases. Taunton needs to fire someone.... New app loses all your purchases. Taunton needs to fire someone...

The dose not work at all. I'm not able to download any issues. That stall between 80%-99%

Great for a long time. I have been a reader and subscriber since the beginning of the magazine. Probably not the first issue but certainly shortly there after. The content far exceeded any other publication. I have read several negative reviews about the apt. I have never had any issues it has worked without any problems and I am on my fourth iPad. I highly recommend both the magazine and the apt.

Pastoraj. I love this app! I like the ability to access the online extras from the articles without having to go to my desktop computer. Any interested advertiser can be web accessed directly from the app and I can return to the page or article that I was reading or referencing. It may not be perfect but it sure is convenient. It works well with iOS 8.1.1. Sometimes the IPad must be restarted because it freezes in must apps when the device memory locks up.

An outstanding resource. I look forward to the latest issue of Fine Wood Working. As a novice sawdust maker I appreciate the many "how to " articles which allow me to look over the shoulders of my more experienced brethren. The digital format is well done with ready links to advertisers plus additional video features not available in the paper product.

Great inspiration for any level. This digital version is very nicely thought out and put together. The pages are easily navigable and the little extras like the video links make the digital version feel special. The advice and inspiration is accessible to a novice and is often provided in various ways to accommodate different shops and tool collections. Well worth the subscription fee.

From Beginner to expert!. Regardless of your skill in the shop, I highly recommend this magazine. Even more, I recommend this app! It makes one of my favorite reference and general reading publications that much more portable!

Great content, need to work on the app. I love the content of this magazine, it is well written, helpful, and the pictures are beautiful. However, the app developers didn't put enough time into testing or thinking about how the content would appear on a device with the resolution of the iPhone. When you double tap a page it tries to zoom but winds up off the viewing area and you have to and pinch to zoom to get it back. Everytime I start the app it forgets where I left off. They have a wonderful feature where it will take an article, strip out the photos and just leaves the words in a readable format. I love this feature but it is only available for certain articles and there is nothing that tells you which ones. I think in time this will be a great app, but they have their work cut out for them.

Completely Frustrating. Completely frustrating are the best words to describe this app. I can't open a magazine I've downloaded unless I'm online. I have to flip through issue after issue of issues I don't own and don't care about in order to find the issues and/or books I have already purchased. Additionally frustrating, though few others may have to deal with this, I work overseas in some petty remote locations. The Internet is almost always very slow. Still, you'd think it would be easy read the content I've already purchased and downloaded to my iPad. Nope! The stupid start screen freezes. Stupid, stupid app. I feel ripped off.

Broken. Doesn't work from the second I downloaded it. First warning I got was "This app may slow down your device. Developer needs to update it." I'm using iPhone 7 iOS 10+. Then after you click "Okay" another message pops up saying there are no current issues. Please try again later. Then it closes itself down. Don't know how this ever passes Apple QA. I guess if you create an app, they never ensure after initial authorization that the app stays compliant and up to date.

I'm new to all this.... I really enjoy this publication and the beginning woodworking website they offer AND the podcast that is free out there. Expert and approachable information. It is inspiring to me and a bit intimidating but I am OK with that. Nubs rejoice. Hats off to the content. You cannot complain about that.

How Many Decades Now?. Would that I had more thumbs to put in the "up" position... Nothing but quality publishing from cover to cover, providing the latest information on tools, new methods of construction and finishing, all well-documented for ease of understanding using brilliant photography work and clear diagrams. I cannot cut a piece of wood straight (but am quite proficient when it comes to finger/hand injuries) so I pay for this publication simply for the joy of reading it. A somewhat high price, yes, but given the fact that I read each magazine over and over again over the years it is a price well worth it.

Good but. Wish you could view just the issues you've paid for, instead of having to scroll through every single one.

Horrible horrible horrible. Where are the issues I’ve paid for?

content great , app so so. As wonderful as the Fine Woodworking web site is you would expect the FWW app to be the same, but it is not. It is a basic flip the page app that does not even register your screen direction and forces you to turn your device to meet their desires. Content is great as always but I do not use the app often due to it's limitations. I rate the content a 5 and the app a 3

Can’t log into account. All of sudden I can’t login. No matter what I do I can’t login. Yes I have a subscription.

Restricts Mac users. I signed up for the online membership to get the digital issue. Not only did I discover I have to pick my way through 27 books for sale on the Newsstand bookshelf, which are displayed exactly like the magazine I'm looking for, but "The issues that are contained within the app that comes with your online membership can be saved to your device or computer if you have the Windows 8 operating system (Windows 8 is the only operating system that works with apps)." Thus I can neither print from an issue or save it elsewhere on either my iPad or Mac. Read that again; it's practically unbelievable. Yet I pay the same as a Windows user. I have over 200 FWW issues as pdfs in Goodreader that I got off the archive cds they sell. Apparently it's too much to ask for me to add these digital issues to that archive or anything else. I will have to also buy the yearly cds and import those into Goodreader. I'm going to report this to the Apple Store. I don't know how they even approved such a Windows-centric app.

Awful App!!!. This app does not work, will not even download content without crashing. Never can get anything. When will Apple start telling its app developers that the original ipad memory is less than the latest, and start testing apps for memory faults? I blame Apple here as much as Taunton. This is not the only app that has gone in the trash can over the last two years..... The original ipad experience is becoming a PC experience, the older it gets, the worse it gets.

FWW App Needs Improvement. The reader portion of the app works well and remembers where you last were, but wish the digital and print versions were sync'd better as far as release dates. The bookshelf portion of the app needs improving a lot. Seems every time an update occurs, all the previous downloads are cleared. This severely limits the ability to read the digital editions when not in a wi-fi area. A visible bookshelf of downloads that doesn't get cleared by updates, separate from the available issues, would go a long way to improve the app.

Great Content, Lousy Implementation. Longtime reader of FWW, only a year or two of this app. I love being able to read, or maybe reread, issues when I travel. But the app itself has been just so-so forever. I just upgraded, and it "lost" all issues I had previously downloaded. It does crash once in a while. But worse feature is the "Shelf" view. There is no way to show only the content you have already downloaded, it shows what Taunton wants to sell you. I'm sure "Fresh from the Garden" is interesting, but why does it always appear in my Fine Woodworking Shelf? And there is no indication of which Items cost extra and which are part of the subscription. Terrible. Sad that a high-quality print publisher like Taunton has failed in the digital world.

Useless and terrible design. What a joke this is - useless app - had to keep logging in - try canceling your 14 day free trial! No way to do it in the app or online. Don’t bother with this one!

Fair App. This app is good for reading the online version of the magazine. Branching into the web page from a magazine article is weak because the web page is not design for mobile use. It is crowded with ads and information. Searches are slow on the website that accompanies issue of the magazine. The application also lacks a way to search for articles without going to the website.

Do not purchase anything from this app.. Taunton press does not support purchases made with this app. If you want to have digital issues purchase directly from their website. When I called Taunton with an issue they directed back to apple as they do not support this app or memberships purchased with this app. Now I'm on hold with apple to get the subscription canceled. Thanks for wasting my time, and possibly money.

Application has removed content that I've previously paid for. I like this app just fine, despite it's nonexistent search function, but a couple of weeks ago several issues that I had paid for simply disappeared. Not only were they not marked as purchased, they were no longer available to download or purchase at all. I called customer service multiple times, but they have yet to reconcile this, and have told me that they would eventually get in touch when there is a resolution. It's been several weeks.

Superb App. One of the best magazine apps I've used – it functions flawlessly, doesn't nag me to download other apps or magazines, and it's not an added-cost addition to my print subscription. Everything a digital magazine should be!

It's a tool same as my saw or chisel. As a new woodworker I love this mag, app, site, etc. Fine woodworking is a fantastic tool to help the progression of your work. The only and I mean only thing that needs improvement is the actual app itself: some of the pages don't come in, other then that, it's awesome!!

Great addition to printed magazine. I am a print subscriber to Fine Woodworking. I really like having an electronic copy with clickable links to more information and videos. I won't give up my printed copies but it's really nice to have a couple years worth of the magazine on my iPad to search through when I'm traveling or sitting in the waiting room at the doctors office.

Hardcopy remains much more reliable.. The paper issues are much easier to retain than the digital versions. My subscription fails to retain user settings over time and when restored per FAQ instructions still demands payment for issues that fall within the date range of my paper subscription (which has been continuous for more than a decade). Guess this is one publication I won't be enjoying while on the road.

Poor Customer Service, Inadequate tech. Zero stars. After signing up for an online membership, which included access to the digital edition of the magazine, it took a week of emailing back and forth with customer service to even get the online membership to work. That time was also spent attempting to establish access to the digital edition via the iPad app. All the while, customer service was terribly inadequate. Responses from customer service associates were not helpful or relevant to the issues I was experiencing; most responses seemed automated and they simply repeated the same instructions in each correspondence despite my stating that I had already done the instructed method before contacting them. Cancelling my subscription was the only solution that fixed this headache. Outdated app, terrible customer service, poor tech support.

Works great on iPad. I like to read periodicals more than novels. This is one I have read regularly since Vol 1, Issue 1. I keep two to three issues saved on my iPad. My eyes are not as great as when I was 20, so my gripe is that it does not rotate when I want to hold it landscape. But I can still expand the type but have to scroll some and not see the whole page. It's exactly like the printed version including all the ads. Would like imbedded videos to demonstrate technique as in some golf magazines. I also get the paper version but the e-version is easier for travel.

Can wait to get home!. I work out in the oil fields of west tx on a 14 -7 schedule. It a great read through the iPhone when I have time on location and when I get back to NJ to unwind I head straight down to my shop and try out the awesome tips and techniques I learned from all the great article in FWW. And it a pinch to go back if I missed a step!

Sisyphean!. What an interesting magazine, full of helpful tips and ideas. I think it's neat that I can read nearly 20 pages of it before it suddenly vanishes and has to be downloaded again. I've downloaded the August issue six times now, and have almost made it to the article I want to read! I'm not learning much about woodworking, but I am learning patience. Thanks, FWW!

Worst implementation I've ever seen. Imagine having to look through every magazine and book a publisher has published just to find the book(s) you purchased! That's what this idiotic application forces you to do. Every. Single. Time. I'd give it zero stars if I could. I've never seen a newsstand app this hostile to readers who might want to revisit a book they've purchased. If you read what you buy immediately, and never look at it again, ignore this review. But if you plan on using anything you buy here a a reference later, stay away. Stay far away. You'll spend more time scrolling through the list of books than you will reading them

Hate the new ad format. While I love the magazine and have been quite happy with it all year, the new ad format is driving me crazy. Every time you turn a page you get little bubbles on all the ads. It is totally distracting and almost makes the magazine unreadable. I feel like I'm about to have a seizure every time I turn a page. I guess I'll have to wait for my print copy because this is very annoying. Please get rid of the bubbles and I'll change my rating to five stars.

Don't waste your time!. Absolutely the WORST application ever. I have both print and online subscriptions. This application can't remember them. I've saved them six times now. And now it won't even let me try without having to enter my Apple ID six times. What a product? Take my recommendation, don't waste your time. maybe they should stick to Woodworking they certainly don't know anything about creating applications. I gave it one star only because I couldn't give it zero.

App does not work. Downloads go to 99% but never finish

I like it.... I subscribed to Fine Woodworking Online because I like to look up articles quickly and watch the most recent videos. This App is a big bonus. It allows me take the magazines with me on my iPhone or iPad. I also like the fact that the online magazines allow you to view online content related to the print articles. I, like others have mentioned, don't like having to wade through a bunch of for sale magazines while I'm trying to find a magazine I already paid for.

Great Read. I've always loved this magazine, but the app makes it even better. The embedded links to more information, other articles or commercial products are great, and it's so quick and easy to get back to the original article.
