The Tennessean: Nashville News Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Ads Constantly Asking Me to Subscribe. My husband and I are already subscribers. Even when signed in, I get multiple ads in each session urging me to purchase a membership. I can be mid-article or switching to another one and have to exit out of a subscription ad. It makes reading the paper very annoying!

BEWARE - Very difficult to cancel a subscription. You can signup online for a promotional subscription but you cannot turn off auto-renewal or delete your credit card number once the Tennessean has it on file. You will have to spends lots of time on the phone on hold in the weeks prior to the auto-renewal date trying to request a cancellation

Digital subscription. Like getting local news but the constant ads and logins are a huge nuisance. Even after “logging on” it asks me to log on. Apparently, I have only 4 articles remaining to read. Whatever. I give it a week and if not fixed will unsubscribe. Update. Now phone calls and Usps mail for delinquent bill. I don’t think so.

Good to have Local news. Tennessean has some of the better inside stories about local issues as well as national and international news has in-depth Information when it comes to investigation

Can’t manage a suspension (vacation hold) on the app. I have to Google “Tennessean Manage Suspension” to get to the page. Why can’t you put this entry on my account page?

Staggeringly Bad.... ...and just what you'd expect out of Gannett. The app fails at the one thing a news app should do ... auto-update and deliver news. Other than Top Stories (and what makes them Top Stories? Timeliness? Number of times the story's been read?) none of the other news feeds update regularly. Weather stories from June still appear. Reflective of Gannett's slipshod approach to local journalism in general. At this point, the only reason I still subscribe is for the Sunday crossword and because subscriber loss is what leads to reporters losing their jobs and the paper getting worse.

No written paper yet!. I signed up again last week for a year of on line and the written paper and still haven’t gotten it delivered yet! I called the other day and they said it would be delivered late that day-never delivered and still not last few days either!!

Best local journalism around. After a year of living in Tennessee, we finally subscribed. We are so glad we did. The reporting is helping us know and understand our new region better. It’s been an excellent reminder that print journalism offers the most informative and unbiased news around.

Just Moved Here From Hollywood. Sure enjoy your features on music and movies! My wife, 8-year-old son and I are so happy to be living in Middle Tennessee. Los Angeles was getting crazier by the minute. Ben McCain

Great for local news. I really like the Tennessean and it’s app. I kept a star for how the ads appear. I realize ads are just part of the news now, but theirs are really large, and look too much like the news links which makes it look a bit visually confusing.

Why won’t my Tennessean app integrate with my google news feed?. I really want to keep up w local news. And I’m exhausted w getting Tennessean headlines that I can’t fully read because there’s no option I can find for Google to see my Tennessean subscription. This is easy with my NYT subscription. Why not Tennessean?

Ridiculous number of pop up ads to sell Tennessean Merchandise. Don’t bother with this… Literally every 60-90 seconds your screen is hijacked by a pop up ad for Tennessean merchandise, even if you are a paid-up subscriber. Compare the revenue from this ridiculous marketing strategy with the loss of revenue as subscribers cancel out of frustration.

Updates filled with dates, old “news”. Maybe the lead story is that day’s news. Not uncommon that the “catch up” category is filled with days or week old news or forecast for a ballgame that was played three days ago. Biased selection of news that is reported. Sad state of American news profession.

My Touchstone. I guess you can call me old fashioned but I still look forward to my Tennessean in both hard copy and online. When there is a big story breaking, the Tennessean online is the first copy I look for. You can bet I will follow it the rest of the day. Then the next morning I still want my morning paper at my door so I can start my day with the latest news. The Tennessean has some real professionals starting with David Plazas. I always enjoy reading articles by Dave Boucher, Getahn Ward, Ms Cheap, and others.

Hard to find data. Not too much to say. The paper has limited local news and the app can only do so much. The app is not easy to deal with either.

Solid App. Clean app. I’ve used local paper apps before and have been disappointed by the layout and features. Not this one. Easy to use. Easy to manage notifications. I’m thankful to be able to get headlines I care about but not be bombarded.

News is good - but need # for customer service. I need to temporarily stop delivery of the paper. This app does not provide info on how to do that. I even searched in Google (shouldn’t have had to do that) - it’s very difficult to find correct # to call. Google listed # from 2015 that is no longer in service. Please add info on App for people who rely on both the App and daily delivery. Delivery customers have been abandoned.

App needs some improvement. Love the paper, but the app has difficulty with access issues. I can open up a link from the daily email, but it says I need to log in, even as it displays my logged in user name in the top corner.

Love the Tennessean. After living in Virginia since 1983 I rely in the Tennessean to keep me up to date on what is going on in my home state. I really enjoy the high school sports updates the most as I like to stay up to date on TSSAA football and girl’s basketball!

Only Nashville and mid Tennessee. While the news and stories are well written and informative, it would be much nicer to have news from the whole state. I don’t live in the area this reports on so getting what’s happening in Nashville and mid Tennessee doesn’t really help. The name led me to believe it would be more about the whole state and not just about that area. I hope to see this news outlet grow into covering more areas! Again it’s a great reporting media source for what it reports on.

Support. Local. Media.. I’m old enough to remember when Nashville had two newspapers (RIP Nashville Banner). The Tennessean is and has always been a wonderful publication with thoughtful stories and FACTUAL information.

Web Version. But web version keeps asking me to purchase when I’ve already purchased. Very irritating!

Second worst ap on my iPad. When I try to view some articles, app gives me warning that I only have 4 articles left to. It’s this month. For an additional 90 cents a month I can have more access. About feed up with this message and the Tennessean! I rarely use app, not worth the stress of having a warning box popping in to block over half the screen of what I am reading. Seriously considering dropping this service, Dave Dawson 207 Ellington Drive Franklin, TN

Best for news in Tennessee. The Tennessean is a must-have for the news in Tennessee. Thoroughly appreciate their reporting, especially during these crazy times.

A Must Have App!. Very accurate and up-to-date information!

Take Over Tennessean Shop Ad. Interrupting the reader experience every few minutes with a takeover ad for the Tennesseean shop is not only intrusive. It completely destroys the user experience. I want to support local journalism, but this isn’t the way to do that. Please reconsider ad choices as well as support for 120 Hz for a much smoother scrolling and reading experience.

There’s a lot to appreciate in this app. This is easy to navigate and gives you options and categories to browse. It lets you clear the cache too.

Tennessee sports fan. I enjoy Titans coverage as well as sports coverage of UT (my alma mater.) I also like national news and sports. I have little interest in local Nashville news as I am not local to that area but overall I enjoy The Tennessean.

Convoluted access. I’m having to use the app again as my daily paper has not been delivered as of 8:43. In order to report this delivery issue, I have to jump through hoops to find the account page. Terribly user unfriendly on this issue.

Great resource. Works well, not expensive, and more convenient than a paper subscription.

Notifications. The notification filters are awful. If I want sports notifications I would turn on the sports notifications. I just want breaking news. Since when is experiencing the first half in pictures of a sports game or ways to watch said game considered “breaking news”? The Predators in the playoffs could be considered breaking news, but not 50 notifications about regular season Vols, Vandy or Titans games. Seriously...

Finally Informed. The Tennessean has been such an incredible resource for staying up to date on the social and political happenings here in Nashville and all around the state. Definitely worth subscribing!

It's just clickbait to make you pay for a subscription. The app baits you with a news headline but when you select a story, it only displays the first line or two. They make you pay to read the full article. It's suspicious that all of these reviews are full of glowing praise without mentioning that. I would hope that The Tennessean wouldn't stoop so low as to leave fake reviews to outnumber the honest ones.

won’t let me log in to my account. On my desktop Mac I had no problems, but on my iphone the login page won’t ever finish loading, or loads but then immediately goes blank. This is even with all content blockers turned off and cross-site tracking allowed. Looks like maybe someone at The Tennessean really wants to play hardball against users who might use any kind of privacy settings at all…seems like a very hostile, self-defeating approach to running a business 🤦‍♂️

Gold in, Gold out. Starts with having a good paper to begin with. This is not such a common thing anymore for a lot of cities. The app makes finding older stories easy and all sections are accessible. Good format very readable. I'm on an intro special but I will most likely stay on at full price. A lot more useful local info than can be found from other online sources.

Excellent app and website. I like this app, it functions well and the articles are informative

Worst app. This app is not user friendly. I am a subscriber to The Tennessean, but I cannot log into stories that are “for subscribers only.” When I try to log in as a subscriber, I get into a maze of “restoring” my purchase, creating a free account, etc., and then it just stops and endlessly “buffers.” I’m done.

App for Tennessean is disappointing.. I like my newspaper on a section by section, page by page, all the news that appears in print basis. I love sports and miss the stats portion of the sports news. I enjoy the orderliness of the articles, item by item. I like not having to search for the articles I am interested in, switching from section to section. I have an allergy to newsprint, so online is my only option.

Great local news!. Subscribed a week ago and I’m glad there’s such an intuitive app to consume all the state and local news on my phone.

Tennessean app just doesn't work. I've been a loyal subscriber to this paper for many, many years. Have used the Print Edition app for the last several years. Lately, the app has all but quit working. The newspaper loads, and as soon as you click on an article to read it, the app shuts down. I haven't been able to make it through a complete edition for the last few days, and I've had it. And trying to reach a human at the Tennessean to talk about it is pretty much impossible. I don't recommend the app as a method of keeping up with any kind of news.

Tampa visitor. I’ve really kept on top of it thanks to the Tennessean.. my daughter lives there in Nashville, and your paper being on top of events , feels like I have A relative checking in on her and reporting back to me! I love the regular alerts, both good and bad news..even weather these days. Tennessean covers all of it for me Way down here in Florida! Thank you!

No user customization. At app is okay, navigation is sloppy, but the biggest issue I have is it’s lack of customization. I dont care to receive notifications about high school football, but I want to hear about other sports (college and pro). I don’t care about the power being out in an area 3 hours from my house, only my county. Please fix.

Not enough substance and too many ads. The Tennessean is not much of a “newspaper” anymore. Half of the newspaper is ads with way too many full page ads. Would love to see some world news included in the paper. This paper also needs to be bipartisan since it is the only newspaper in the area. It’s sad when you only get the paper once a week for the crossword puzzle, sale fliers and coupons. Won’t be renewing our subscription.

I much prefer the print version. The info is mostly here, but it strikes me as a site without order. The layout seems sterile. I look forward to getting the print edition or reading it online. This to me lacks depth. Maybe if the articles followed the same order as an actual daily.

Often Biased Reporting. I purchased a subscription to keep up with affairs in my state. Unfortunately most articles are not unbiased objective journalism. While bias is expected in opinion pieces, even most news pieces are sprinkled with the authors’ own unsubstantiated assumptions or irrelevant pieces of information intended to influence readers. I will be canceling my subscription.

Please stop notifying me about football!. This app is great except for the constant notifications about sports. I turned off sports notifications, yet constantly get them because I have "breaking" notifications turned on. Some of the things in breaking are important and I don't want to miss them, but it's frustrating to constantly get updates about the titans. The titans are nothing to me except a huge traffic inconvenience on Sunday. A first down does not carry the same importance as a shooting!

Annoying if a non-subscriber. The app is easy to use and the stories reported on are great. I just wish I could opt out of receiving news stories for subscribers only. So many of my notifications from them are for “subscriber only” stories, and I don’t think it’s right to make citizens pay to be informed. We should not be placing barriers to participation in civic life!! There are ads throughout the app, so that should be enough revenue for y’all.

Ridiculous website. all I wanna do is hold delivery and there is not a leak anywhere on your website to allow that

A Daily Must Read. As a new resident to greater Nashville, the first thing I did was subscribe to the Tennessean so I get stay abreast of local news, but I’ve found the National coverage to be outstanding as well I’ll be a long time subscriber

Better than most. I’m digitally subscribed to over a dozen newspapers/magazines/etc and this is one of the few where their app is preferable to just using the mobile website. No real complaints.

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. Great news app. I enjoy using this app and it is easy to navigate.

Tricky. Impossible to change cookie preferences; no access to subscriber services ( just tells you to subscribe if you click on the link) so you cannot pause delivery. So, annoying.

App starts changing for stories.. I had this app for a week. The news stories were not as good as before the app was required, and was just part of USA Today. After a week, the app started requiring you to pay for the news stories. Not allowed to give a less than one star rating.

Crashes Almost Every Time. The Tennessean keeps raising subscription prices but seems content to have an app that takes forever to load and then repeatedly crashes. If they cannot figure out how to be a part of the digital era, they will soon go the way of other papers that refused to adapt. Thank God for the New York Times!

Awesome local news.. Music coverage is outstanding.

new content updated and lots lf reading material. The best app on my phone is the Tennessean!

Using this ap. I previously had what was called the digital ap which allow sizing pages and moving around freely. This newspaper is just terrible and simply unusable.

Should be free. Paying a high subscription fee is ridiculous when I still get ads. Offer free with ads. Subscribers should be able to opt out of ads if they choose. Better news coverage with Apple News.

Most Reliable Investigative Journalism in the Region. Thank you for taking the time to investigate stories that matter, and thanks for being fair and balanced.

What you would expect ... just fake news. If you want factual news do not use this app. Just another alt left fake news site. Stories are written at a grade school level to serve Democrats who lack critical thinking skills. No facts are shared but only liberal talking points.

Please stop improving it.. This app worked great before you made it better. Now it takes forever to load and crashes the first time I open it up, almost every time. Please unfix it. It was great before. Thanks. 😀

Digital subscription worthless. I finally caved a paid for a digital subscription. It recognizes my account and that I paid. It still tells me I need to subscribe to read further. Tech support fixes it. Then it goes back after two days.

Not all articles are here. When I discovered that important articles are not available in this app,I had to switch to using the Tennessean print app instead. User beware. The Tennessean actually has two apps. This app does not have all the articles that you will find in the print edition or the Tennessee print app.

The App. I look forward to having my coffee in the morning and reading the paper using theApp. But today the APP is not working AGAIN!! The Tennessean is an incompetent organization. Believe me I have been on the phone with them numerous times and sent online requests for information. It is a failing business.

Full newspaper format. I do not want to have to click on story after story. I want to see the newspaper in an original format from page 1 forward. How can I do that?

Platform is faulty. The Tennessean’s content is decent. The platform seems out of date. Images don’t load properly, the display is awkward, and the navigation is not intuitive. Readers deserve better.

Digital eddition. Top news stories are no longer updated, the page looks the same every day?

Great. Has good news articles that are very well written

My rating for my Tennessesan paper.. The new format is a great help in my reading and understanding just what I am reading. Great Job 👏

Great, Quick, Factual News. I love that I can get updates immediately as they happens.

Crashes. This used to be a good way for me to keep up on local news when I travel but the past month it crashes on me before I can open a single article. Please fix this!

Subscribed for just online. It is impossible to login directly to the app. Whenever I try to log in it opens a web page for me to look at. I want to read and stay logged in on the app!!

Great app. This is perfect for getting updates and essential everyday news.

Tennessean. Great local paper covering news, sports, business, entertainment and more for Nashville and its surrounding counties. Their music and music industry coverage are top notch in a place called Music City.

Smart app. Great, up-to-date information on the most important news in Nashville and Middle Tennessee.

News alerts. New alerts are hard to find

Great news app. Really like this app simple and easy to navigate

Great News Source. Love the Tennessean for the local reporting and great journalism. I think the app gives too many notifications, but the content is very good.

Lacking total state coverage. I absolutely understand its our(Tennessee’s) capitol but I wish there could be more than just Nashville news. There will be random Middle Tennessee articles but thats all I have seen so far. Cancelling subscription.

Pop up marketing. As a subscriber, I’m using this review to complain about having pop up ads for Tennessean merch EVERY time I open the app.

Good read daily. Great to get every day

Good news. Thanks for keeping us up to date!

It really is a bad app. It will not let me sign in despite being a subscriber that has previously signed in with no problems. When you call for help you realize this is not a Tennessee paper. I wish I could give it zero stars.

Terrible. This has to be the most poorly maintained site I have ever used. Always says “no internet connection” even when every other site works. Takes forever to load.

Too many pop up windows while reading. This app has far too many distracting popups promoting different sections, affiliated products, etc. you can’t get through an article without having to cancel out of two or three windows. Very frustrating.

Sports News. I unchecked the preference box to not receive sports news. However, it seems that half of what I get on the digital news is on sports. Thank you. James Cohoon

Liked. I read it daily. Well done. Thanks.

Hate it. I do not understand why a paying subscriber is bombarded with pop up adds. Annoying and not wanted. Why does the epaper not automatically fit my iPad for easy reading. Both features are poor.

A Must Have App!. Very accurate and up-to-date information!

Constant log ins. Why can’t this app continue to recognize me as a subscriber? I am tired of having to constantly log in again and again.

Slow. So slow to load. Ads are distracting with all the movement, blinking, etc. I would prefer to see actual news items in Top News (how Ms. Cheap, etc. makes Top News is beyond my understanding.) It seems to me that both the reporting and delivery of daily news is geared most toward profit.

Trouble with Print Edition. I can’t get the print edition to load the edition!

Pretty great paper and app. Pretty great paper and app. Subscribe so that we keep some level of local journalism going in mid-TN

Review. Very informative and easy to access and read

A great paper. I enjoy this paper very much

App no longer works. This app will no longer open. I pay for a subscription and it includes online access. If you don’t fix the app then you should reduce the subscription price.

A good news source.. I find the journalism in the Tennessean to be well balanced and informative. A great way to keep with Nashville and regional news on the go.

Awful UI that frequently crashes. This app is terrible. The amount of ads thrown at subscribers makes me want to unsubscribe. It crashes frequently. I support local news, but I wish the Tennessean app and digital content wasn’t so terrible.
