Most helpful app I’ve purchased. I purchased this app A few years to help me plan my photo shoots of interiors. I could see in advance where the light would be later in the day thru the windows and know which rooms to shoot at certain times. It just keeps getting better as time goes on. Thanks

Good but I’ve notice the live view isn’t accurate. This app is very helpful but only thing I have to say is the pictures show the moon and sun on the point but right now it isn’t for me any that’s pretty critical when planning for shots. Please help me out with that. I was hoping paying $10 from the lite version I’d have all great features

Awesome Tool. This tool has just about everything you could ask for. Use it to plan ahead for photo/video shoots, know exactly how much time you’ll have for light, and know exactly when the moon will be in just the right spot over your nighttime subject. It even tells you when/where the Milky Way will rise and when to get the clearest shot. I love using it while planting my garden. Now I know how many hours of sun each area will get on any given day of the year. Only thing I could see them adding is a constellation overlay. That would blow me away.

Great app for photography & videography. The latest version of this app let me add events such as full moon at sunset or sunrise into my calendar, set alarms and specify other entries. All entries are in local times at the locations I plan to shoot. Such entries in my calendar allow me to plan my shoots with high efficiency. Yes, its graphics help me visualize the lighting conditions and select my positions to take beautiful pictures. My day job sends me to locations around the world. This app is wonderful in helping enjoy my photography hobby. Great app.

One of my all-time favorite apps, for sure. I downloaded Sun Surveyor about a year ago, and it was the easiest and quickest ten usd I've ever spent. (I'm quite stingy with my spending) Worth every cent. The application is orderly, organized, visually appealing, user friendly, the whole sha~bang. 10/10 !¡ Je Vous Remercie I am writing this review to request an update or fix to the widget apparatus. I presently have the Sun/Moon rise:set feature on my homescreen, but it does not display any information. Just the words "no permission" atop. I looked up if there were any ways to fix this and was not able to find any helpful solutions. So here I am.

Amazing for landscape design. I’ve used this app for years when creating landscape designs. It’s extremely handy for in the field with live view to assess light conditions, or with map view from the office for getting a good idea of light conditions and shadows from existing trees. It’s incredibly impressive how accurate and useful it is. Worth every penny

So disappointed !!. I bought this app a few months ago to use it for my studio project! The location I use is not the same as my current location!! Yesterday all of a sudden it started saying that there is no panorama available!!!! Right when I need to use the app for my presentation!!!! Does anybody know how I can fix this issue??! The street view in the app of my location was perfect and now I cannot view it anymore!!!!! So frustrating!!

Solar panel locator. I’m using this app for locating Solar panels on my property and making allowances for shadows. For this application, the app is absolutely awesome. A must for anyone doing this kind of projects. Well designed and feature packed.

Excellent App. Ideal for solar power surveys, home buyers, arborist, farmers, sunbathers, the list is long. If you want to know and then see where the sun or moon will be on any day, at any location and time this app is what you need. Like to see it export to my google calendar some ephemeris dates. You love the sun and sky this app you should buy.

100% worth the money!!. I have used this app so many times it's not funny!! This app is spot on with what time the sun rises and sets in various locations. It's option of using a satellite view of a potential location, live view for a location at a later time, and compass view are all amazing. It gives blue hour for both am and pm, plus sunrise and sunset, moonrise and moon set and SOOO MUCH MORE!!! Plus, the app's predicted placement of the sun at specific times is SPOT ON ACCURATE!! It makes it so much easier to plan shoots when one knows where the sun is going to be!! I absolutely love this app and its 100% worth the money!!!!!

Amazing App. Purchased for planning local sunset/moonrise photos. That capability alone surpassed my expectations. I was just reviewing photo opportunities for a quick over night trip and discovered even more information in this app: The ability to enter remote locations and extensive information on Sun, Moon, Milky Way and other celestial events. Only took me two+ years to discover that this tool is even better than I thought! I love this app!

So Many Uses!. I use this app all the time and for so many things. Of course it’s great for photography planning, but I use it much more for trip planning. What time will the sun be setting in Rome when I’m there next year? Great, I’ll make dinner reservations for half an hour before that. How many hours of daylight will there be for that upcoming road trip? Or what’s the difference in day lengths between solstices in that part of the world?When and where exactly will the super moon come over the horizon into view? Easy peasy. I use Sun Surveyor every time I go camping to pick the spot with the best morning shade. Or to find the best seats at an outdoor concert. Once you have the app, you will find dozens of uses for it. I use it so frequently it lives on the first page of my Home Screen. Excellent app. Enjoy!

Perfect for landscaping and solar panels. You can see the sun’s path over an entire year by enabling the Solstices view. Then from any spot you can see how long it’ll be in the sun or shade in each season. This is very useful for planning landscaping and solar panels. The developer also responded quickly to a question I sent via email.

Indispensable for the serious photographer. Brilliantly programmed and logically presented. Photography is about light, and this app provides all the information needed to plan where and when the light for a shot will be optimal. The tech support is outstanding. It paid for itself the first time that I used it.

Farming and gardening. I use this all the time to help people pick a good spot for a garden. Get used to the controls and you will love it.

Great Solar Panel Array Survey Tool. I use this app to site solar panel arrays. A great tool to find the best sun exposure on a property so that the array won’t be shaded and rob power output . It also shows me where trees might need to be removed or topped to get full power harvesting during prime hours on either side of solar noon. I use the photos to guide arborists on where to cut the shading trees. It’s amazingly precise for this kind of work.

The highest quality app I have ever used. It amazes me how much functionality is built into this app. It's intuitive, useful, and always works. Even though the app is for a fairly specialized application, it's the single beat app I have ever used.

Not working for Astronomy “history”. It works very well when reconstructing the shadow angle of independence hall at 15:22 in movie National treasure 2004. However the app does not work for eclipses in the 16th century. I checked two real astronomy events but the sun moon alignments are wrong in this app. I knew the app is not for historians but it is a pity when you can specify the dates up to centuries ago. You should only keep 21th century.

Best photographer outdoor lighting logistics planner I’ve found. It’s feature rich with loots of information about sun/moon and light conditions and orientation throughout the day which is incredibly handy for preparing for photography/film production shoots

Needs Apple Watch app. Would be a lot more complete if there was an Apple Watch companion app so we can have a complication with golden hour or whatever else we want for the local area.

Such a great app. I’ve purchased this app long ago and have been using it for scouting photography locations and learning about our solar system. I’m amazed at the features built into this app. I can spend hours looking through this app’s window to our world. Awesome work by this developer.

Amazing sun tracker. I mainly purchased this years ago for helping me visualize sun and moon paths, as well as occasional photography help. The astounding level of information and tool packed into this app have exceeded my needs and expectations, and it continues to improve over the years with regular free updates. Photographers will find this to be an essential tool, and I assume many others as well. But if like me, you're just a nerd looking to orient yourself to the motions of the solar system, this app excels at that too. The best thing about this app is the multiple perspectives it offers— first-person perspective with celestial bodies overlaid on the live camera; the "astronaut's-view" 3D compass; and for a remote-viewing experience, the Street View perspective. There is an astounding level of data about the sun and moon at your fingertips as well. But I mainly like the visualization tools. I can't imagine anything else you'd need in a sun tracker app, and would guess you'll find stuff included you didn't even know you'd want.

Great app. In a previous review, I mentioned that the google icon 360 view wasn’t accurate. It now is. The app is great and I use it all the time.

Love this app…but. I love this app. One feature that used to work, but lately hasn’t, is location searching. I copy/paste a location coordinates from google maps and normally it takes me to the spot. However lately, it just gives me a black screen. Please fix!

Perfect Tool for Photographers. I’ve never written a review for an app before, but this one deserves one! I am an outdoor light portrait photographer. This app is incredible for judging the best time of day for my sessions, especially when they are at a new location. I love that you can drop in the specific address and see exactly where the sun sets & the location of the sun. Incredible!

Incredibly useful, thoughtfully designed app!. Honestly, I didn’t think that I would use it as often as I do. It’s useful for so many applications! Photography, planning walking routes, planning activities to do at certain dates and locations, and a lis goes on… The app is super insightful and rich with information. It’s designed well enough for someone newly introduced to it to be able to yield some value from it. Nevertheless, I encourage ones to invest a little bit of time to fully yield all of the value it can bring to you.

Amazing!!. I almost never buy apps but I can’t believe Sun Surveyor only cost me $10. It’s accurate, educational, beautiful and fun to use. Not only that but the brilliant video tutorials are accessible right from the menu in the app itself. The free version gave me all the functionality I actually need, but the app is so gorgeous and fascinating that I only played with it for a few minutes before upgrading. I’ve been using iPhones for many years and can say unequivocally that this is the best app I’ve ever used!!!

THE utility for outdoor creatives. This app is truly a staple when it comes to sunshine preparedness! As a filmmaker I use this app to save face when shooting outdoors in a location im not familiar with. You are able to input any location and it will bring the ability to see everything in a live view. Lookout golden hour, here we come!!!!

So many uses.. Great app! Used this to determine position of solar panels and skylights up in the Pacific Northwest- very useful for determining winter and summer sun angles. I’ve also found it great for nature photography; knowing the phase of the moon and where it’s going to be for long exposure setups, it even shows where Milky Way will be.

Amazing App! I only have one request. This app is simply amazing, and makes it so much more convenient to find all the data I could possibly want! However, I have only one request. This request is to add the time of Lunar Noon (the Moon’s highest point of the day) to the Ephemeris of the Moon.

An impressive helper in all things astronomical. I started with locating ideal garden locations for new fruit tree plantings, using AR view. Now it’s my reference for longitude & latitude determinations and sunrise & sunset timings at all times of year. Truly a wonderful app.

Best App Out There!. As a filmmaker and now solar panel capturer, this app is invaluable when it comes to tracking the sun! It is sooo accurate it’s unbelievable! Like right now I’m catching the sun coming up over my house to capture the most sunlight I can get. Using this app I was able to design my sun platform for optimum position! No Brainer for photographers. The app is just an amazing tool for getting great sunset and sunrise pics. The map and live view tools are the best and make determining the best position, place, and time so easy. Also lots of data on golden time and blue time really useful for time lapse. Sun surveyor. This app is brilliant. I have needed this tool for landscape photography for ages. All of my problems with knowing where the path of the sun will on the horizon are over.

The best app for Photo Planning. This is just the very is a great app to find the position of the Sun ( and Moon ) when planning a Photo-Shoot. I compared it to TPE and PhotoPills amongst and SunSurveyor just beats those hands down. Besides of that Adam Ratana , the developer keeps on improving and is most helpful when needed. About a year ago I suggested some interface improvements which he bettered.
I am a professional photographer and depend heavily on planning photo shoots ahead. This application saved me on first use a surveying trip of around 150 Km. I could do all at home with all the tools in the app. Now know I have to be there at 6.30 AM and can not leave before 6.30 PM …. thanks Adam I have to bring lunch in a box ;-) In comparison with other cheap apps it seems like a hefty price tag of 8.99 , but this sinks to below nothing once working with it, or as I said saving me a 150 Km. trip the day I bought and installed it. Fully recommended by a very experience professional photographer --- are 40 Years working all types camera on most continents of our great blue Planet enough to state this ? ;-) To give an example: I am planning a shoot to have the moon behind our National Telescope, in the very rough and undulating terrain an absolute challenge to find the perfect spot at about 15+ km distance. The error in angle of camera position / angle of view (1200 mm ) can result as you can imagine in a couple of ‘Moon widths’ off the target. Combine that with the near impossible terrain and you can imagine how narrow my margin is. Thanks to Sun Surveyor I found the near perfect spot. ... Near perfect because a rocky dip in the terrain (not visible on Google satellite in the app) forced me to move some 100 meters to the left. But the image was still very much within my visualisation! So impressed by the accuracy of the app.
 The user interface beats TPE a fair bit and PhotoPills by miles. PhotoPills makes a huge fuss about how good they are, all I can suggest try out Sun Surveyor and judge for yourself who is the real winner. Marvellous piece of computer programming , very very well done ! Actually I am totally amazed how a human being can develop something like this and that I at my not to young age can hold it in my hands, it somehow feels very futuristic to me but is reality today. Its a pity Sun Surveyor flies so low under the radar of self promotion. It deserves more - should be a Apple staff pick for sure !!

Great app for Photography.. Have used this in Australia and the UK. Nice app for getting those photos in the Golden Hour and for knowing exactly where the big yellow lightbulb will appear. Also another good app to show off the iPhone and "It can do this! WOW". Kudos to the developer and his web site.

Sun surveyor. I find it extremely useful for evaluating site suitability for solar panel installation. The camera view allows you to predict when trees or buildings will cast a shadow on the panels at any tine,day or place of your choosing.

Great App for Architects. As an architect I have found this app extremely useful. I can very quickly assess the potential shadows that might get cast by buildings for any site. It would be great if one day you could turn on 3D buildings and topography in city centres and observe their shadows. For an architect and urban designer such a tool can greatly inform placement of buildings.

Exceptional capability and value. This app is exceptional and it’s exactly what I’m looking for + more. Its not often I come across an app that’s review worthy in my books, but this ticks every box. It’s got fantastic home widgets too! Best of all, its not an ongoing subscription which is refreshing. Overall a great addition to the photography toolkit.

Sun surveyor. What's happened? The previous version was better with this version you can't see the summer and winter equinox and where they pass over in real time not as good as the first version

What happened?. I used to love this app but something has happened to the map. I cannot reposition the target any more and when I try the map goes off to other places. Also when I was planning my trip to NY it gave sunrise and sunset time based on my local time here in Australia. Rather than the local time in NY. Knowing the sun is going to set at 10am my time just doesn't help. Please revert to how it worked before. I assume everything else still works. Please fix.

Great for solar installations. This app is proving extremely useful in positioning solar panels. The shadow setting means you can see the effect of trees or structures around your installation and position them for maximum efficiency. I would like to have the ability to import photos (eg. Aerial shots from a drone) as both google and Apple Maps have shadows that reflect the time the satellite image was taken and somewhat restrict the view of the shadow line.

A Must-Have App. Sun Surveyor has been a reliable staple of my photography toolkit over the years after trying many alternatives, and has what I think is the nicest UI of them all. The developer keeps the app patched and updated and it has all the features that you need for planning almost any kind of shoot. I cannot recommend it enough!

A+ Works Great. I used this app to determine if solar panels would be effective all year round on my roof. The techs were impressed at how accurate this app was, and downloaded it themselves on the spot.

It's worth it!!. As a photographer who shoots out doors most of the time it's vital I understand when and where I will find the best light of the day to bask my clients in. I was really hesitant to drop 12 bucks on an app that I couldn't find any reviews on or preview at the time. I took a chance and have never looked back. I've tried a few other apps but Sun Surveyor is AWESOME. I spend most of my time in map and AR view. The street view function is by far my most used tool, just a shame Google hasn't street viewed as much of Korea as I would like. I just updated today and it looks like a MAJOR overhaul from the previous version. It even addressed some features I was going to request. The one thing I'd like to see is the ability to screen shot with an on screen button from any mode. I see it has been implemented in AR mode but I screen shot from map, street view and other modes all the time and it would be perfect if it was a touch away. Thanks for this superb app!

Excellent app; very accurate and useful. Does everything they claim and does it all simply and without a fuss. I've used it many times to plan sunrise & sunset photography and it is always perfectly accurate. Cannot recommend it it more highly.

Way more precise than a compass. If you align the Sun for your position (by using shadow orientation, like a sundial shadow, not the Sun itself) you can get pretty precise pole star azimuth. I can get repeatable measurement of plus or minus 2 degrees. The app is very well made.

Hasn’t worked for me in over a year. I’ve been using this for many, many years, but it just doesn’t work anymore. I was hoping for a bug fix that just never came. If I reinstall the app it works once, and then never again. Rather a pain to have to reinstall every time I want to use it. I assume the developer totally gave up on it. Time to finally move onto something new that works.

Great App. This app is extremely useful when planning a garden. We also used it to find the perfect location to build a deck that would be in shade at a certain time a day. What we would also like to see is a shadow calculator. By entering a height of an obstacle, it would tell you how long the shadow would be at a certain time. Example: a 6 foot pole could give you 1 foot of shadow at noon & 8 feet later in the evening.

The best real estate app. Updated check out info panels it just made this app a 6stars.

Great presentations for various views.. Hi. I have used light for about a year. Upgraded and love it. Use for solar panel placements. Setting up camera for sunrise pics. Getting the family excited about events like the blood moon coming up. Showing the kids the movement and the axis’s.

Époustouflante !. Je cherchais une façon plus « visuelle » pour installer un anémomètre. Une boussole est assez peu utile sur la toiture (où j'installe ma station météo) puisqu'elle ne fonctionne bien qu'au milieu d'un champs... Bien sûr, il y a plusieurs apps qui fournissent les positions du soleil et de la lune (éphémérides) et il y en a d'excellentes... mais celle-ci m'a permis de trouver des repaires au sol pour orienter l'anémomètre avec une précision plus que suffisante ! « Sun surveyor » permet de choisir le lieu, grâce à Google map, le jour (ou la nuit !) et l'heure précise afin, par exemple, d'utiliser la lune comme un repère (dans mon exemple, j'ai attendu que la lune soit précisément au sud pour orienter ma girouette - et on a même le choix entre le nord magnétique ou géographique !). Je n'ai pas trouvé d'autres mots qu'époustouflant ! J'ai longuement hésité, face au prix, puisqu'il n'y a pas de version démo (si elle existe, je ne l'ai pas trouvé !), mais j'ai déjà d'autres idées en tête maintenant que je sais qu'on peut utiliser « street view » avec les coordonnées terrestres et les orbites du soleil et de la lune...

Superb Solar site analyzer. This is an excellent app to analyze a site for a solar array setup. Very easy to use. The app overlays the sun's track on a photo using your phone's camera, with data from any day in the year. You can then clearly see if trees are going to block the sun, and how that will change from spring to fall (or winter!). I’m a long time (30+ years) solar user and this app has helped me clearly understand my property vs the sun's track. Highly recommend!!

Why this is a negative review. This app opens with a blue screen with dialog that has no way to be turned off. In the other setting it turn green and is hard to see through... Please fix this. I do not give this any stars so disregard the star in the review. Only gave the star to be able to submit review!

Great app. Worth all the money.

Glad I upgraded. I’ve been using the lite version reliably for a while now and I just decided to upgrade to the full version to check out the AR augmented reality feature. I’m actually that glad I did. The app just works, it’s responsive as it move it around and doesn’t crash. I especially like the time machine feature that lets you scroll through a whole year with a swipe, so you can see the difference between summer and winter in a glance. Street view was a pleasant surprise...it showed me that the sun rose right at the end of my street today, making it “streethenge” for me. That’s what prompted me to write this review. TLDR: it’s fun to use and it works well and the pro version is really really useful.

Love this app. I’ve had so many people ask how I plan sun and moon events. This is my secret weapon. I use it for planning sun angle for television commercial productions as well.

Really helped. Really helped us arrange plants in the spring for summer sun. We have a bunch of large trees that shade our property. This app let us determine areas that would be in full sun in the summer so we could put the right plants in different areas.

Widget. Where is it?

Useful app.. I have several apps that help me with photography and videography but this is the one I keep coming back to. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in sunrises/sets and moonrises/sets. Very helpful to figure out lighting and super easy to use.

So good. I’ve had this app for a while now. It was pretty good. The last update made it super good. Works really well. Sometimes the phone needs to be recalibrated to make things accurate (seems much better with the new update) but I think that is more related to how the phone works than anything with the app. Such great info shown to see the suns track throughout a day and year. I use the augmented reality feature the most - I can see the camera’s view with lines on the picture that shows where the sun will be. Would be cool if I could take a panoramic photo to have one picture with all my solar lines that the app can show.

Almost Perfect. UPDATE July 2015 New ui is great. Nice improvement to the app. ORIGINAL Really cool app. Loaded with features and customization options. The main feature I like is the AR sky view that shows the path of the sun (and moon) against real objects in the sky. But there is also a map view, and even the option to Overlay sun and moon data on top of StreetView imagery. The only other app that I've found that provides some of these features is Sun Seeker, but this one totally blows it out of the water. No competition.

Best of class. I work in film, where knowing where the light is on a location is important. I've stood next to people with other sun tracking apps MULTIPLE times—some of the other apps costing north of $25—and I've always had the most accurate read-out, hands down. I've literally turned dozens of people into instant downloaders of this app in the field. This beats all of the others.

Amazing app to get lost in. Learned about this app from a photography class. Free version is great, paid version is definitely worth it too. I rarely pay for apps but am glad I got this one. Great way to track sun/moon movements which you grow to appreciate. Highly recommended

Very useful. As a photographer/videographer, I've found this app to be well designed and intuitive. The ability to overlay the sun's arc on the camera is a welcome and easy way to visualize when the sun will top an obstacle or drop behind one. I use it frequently and recommend it highly.

Outdoors person delight!. This app goes way beyond a photographer's necessity. Want to hike your favorite desert trail under a full Moon? This is the app. Need to know when the Sun will peek over a ridge and warm your mountain campsite? Look no further. Are you trying to determine what the height of a majestic tree is for a botany class term paper? Or maybe planning a auto/bike road trip. Use Sun Surveyor for these and many other outdoor activities. This is like having the U.S. Naval Observatory website in your pocket, only much better. It's live and up to the minute. The feature of the Sun and Moon paths layered on the camera view of my iPad/iPhone was worth the price alone. If you do anything outdoors for business, pleasure or scientific research you'll be glad you have this valuable planning tool available.

Great Application for my business!. As a professional photographer I always need to know where the sun will be for both outdoor and indoor locations. With this app I know exactly when I need to be on location to set up and be ready for the "right light" - it's saved my bacon more than once in previous versions and I imagine the new and improved version will do more of the same!

Dig it out, yes your wallet, purse, whatever and purchase this most elegant app. I am but a lowly Commercial TV Line Producer but I can tell you that SunSurveyor has saved my hinder many times in predicting when the fiery ball will drop and where it will drop! I've turned more Gaffers onto this crystal ball of an app with no complaints. Like I said, dig it out and lay it down. You will not be sorry. Adam knows his stuff.

Best App I own. If you're even reading this review, buy this app. As a nature and landscape photographer, I use this app nearly every single day to plan my shoots and trips that I take. Not only can you see the positions of the sun, moon, and milky way at any given date and time, you can view it live with your camera, from a top down map view, and street view. And that's just touching the surface of what this app can do. I can honestly say that my career and quality of work has drastically improved since buying this app over two years ago. I can plan what time of year will be best for the type of lighting I want in nearly any scenario, anywhere in the world. Solid 5 stars.

Fantastic App. As a professional photographer chasing the "golden hour" of the day, this app is just as important as your light meter. The app is very complete with everything you need along with the flexibility to pick and choose what you want. The Cream of the Crop. (No relation to the developer): This is really quite a good job by Adam Ratana. I have several sun location & angle apps, from planning a solar panel installation, and Sun Surveyor is the one I still keep on my phone to plan sunset walks & figure awning configuration over a window. It's very capable, easy to use, and Mr Ratana keeps tweaking to improve ease of interface and smooth out any bugs (I haven't run into any glitches over the last 2 years). Very Good Job!

Great app. I do a lot of camping in areas where the sun can be pretty intense during the day and so this is really going to help me find out a place to put my tent so it doesn't get roasted. I can't wait to use it in the summer or in the winter, too, if I want to stay warm. It is worth $10 or so for the premium.

was great til recently. i depend on this app to help me plan photo shoots, it’s been indispensable. however, the sun angle line has stopped displaying, rendering it useless.

Awesome, very pleased!. This application exceeded my expectations. It gives me the answers in map view, table view and 3D view as to where the sun or moon is. This can be done for any location at any time of the year. All of this can help find the angle of the sun to help calculate where it will be in your 2D map environment or in an augmented, 3D reality view. In 3D the application uses the iPad's built in camera, compass and gyro to show you where the sun will be in 3D at the present moment or at any other time of day or any time in the year. There is so much more than I have described. This app is simply amazingly useful. Cheers to the developer.

One of the most used and important tools in my photo bag. I have been using free sun and moon trackers for sunrise/sunset, moon shots, and general lighting info but this one blew me away. IT IS SO WORTH THE PRICE if you need an accurate and very workable tool. I love the live view and the ability to work with Google steer view. If you rely on the sun or moon for your photos (I'm thinking you all do to some extent) then you need this app. Ten stars!

More than expected 🌞. While most apps seem to just meet expeditions, occasionally one exceeds expectations. Sun Surveyor is one of those. The more I use it, the more useful it becomes. One of the joys of Sun Surveyor is finding new elements/items that provide insight to improve my photography. With a little imagination and experimentation (the basis of good photography), Sun Surveyor is becoming an ever more important shot planning tool.

Perfect. This is a top notch app. I'm a nerd farmer. I love it. Easy interface, Great visualization. I use it to find out which trees are blocking (or will block) light on my greenhouse throughout the year and am using it to orient buildings for passive solar gain. update: the new ephemeris data (about milky way visibility etc.) is just plain fun. ex. need an excuse to go on an evening walk? why the milky way will be gorgeous tonight!

Best sun/moon app for photographers!. This is an updated review originally reviewing March 5th, 2014. It's now June 2017, and I am still using this app. Like other reviewers, it occasionally needs to be recalibrated, but the app is fantastic. If you want an app that tells you all the info about the sun's location, scouting it before arriving, and getting an idea where you want to set up, this is the app for you. It will let you save favorite locations, if you're planning a vacation for nature shots. Gives you sun/moon rise and set. Twilight, golden hour, blue hour. It really has everything you need in one app. I used to have multiple apps to get all of that information, however this one has it all. It is well worth the money, especially since the developers are frequently updating it for fixes and new features/languages. (I have no connection to the developers other than the fact that I purchased this app over 3 years ago and I am still using it through a couple of different phones and iPads).

Hands down, a five stars app. I rarely ever rate an app, but this app, although a bit relatively expensive, but it's worth every penny. The amount of information, and the graphical tools, plus the visualization tool, all super easy to use, makes it a solid five stars app. Thanks to the developer.

Awesome app. I was looking for this kind of high quality app and didnt want the $30 app from the competitor. Glad I kept looking and found this! I like the AR real time picture view but for some reason it was not very accurate for the sunset I was viewing, the moon position was perfect though so I don't think the problem had to do with my accelerometers... Who knows , still nice app.

Awesome app!. This is one of the best Sun apps in the iTunes store!! Tons of information and functions. Developer responds quickly to questions. Only thing to add would be push notifications for different times regarding sunrise/sunset or moonrise/moonset. Regardless of this minor addition, this app is simply awesome!

Pure, Unadulterated GENIUS!. I am an astronomy and physics teacher and certainly recommend this app for anyone teaching these subjects. Augmented Reality View is an incredible part of the app's functionality. Example: One of the major projects my students do in Astronomy is a 4 month photographic study of the motion of the sun to better understand celestial dynamics. Sun Surveyor has proved indispensable for my students as they select a location for their photos…a location they must be assured will give them clear access to the setting sun over that 4 month period. The developer has created a truly special app in Sun Surveyor. BRAVO!!

It is well worth the higher than average cost for the information and presentation it provides. I was looking for a sun/moon product to provide me with a flight planning tool for very specialized night/NVG mission planning and this BLEW ME AWAY. Indispensable for Landscape Photographers!. If you are a landscape photographer who scouts locations in advance based on the sun, moon or Milky Way positions, this is a must-have app. Just as valuable on site when figuring out exactly where to setup for sunrise or moonrise. I've been using this app for several years (after trying many others) and it keeps improving while also adding additional useful features. Love how it is integrated with google maps. Also use the distance feature and elevation degrees on augmented reality. I’ll use Sun Surveyor to figure out distance and then a photography-specific app to check depth of field for my shot. A bonus is the new photo opportunities feature because I was using the app for exactly that on my own. I’ve recommended this app many times when out shooting (I’m not pro, just serious hobby) when other photographers have asked about moon angle, time, why I picked a certain position, etc... It’s all because of this app. It's excellent!

The best photo utility app ever. I rarely write reviews, but this app really deserves it's 5 star rating. It has more features than I expected, and they all work great. I love the "blue hour" time designations. I love seeing the sun or moon path in augmented reality view, it makes me feel like I am living in the future. Every photographer I show it to is impressed by it's magical abilities. It is one of those apps that really uses an iPhone or iPad to its full potential. Just get it, it is a steal at any price!

Works fine on a 5s and IOS 8.2. Don't know what others are saying that this app doesn't open on IOS 8.2. It does, it would be so much better on the larger screens smart phones, I like the better perspective achieved in understanding the sun and moon relationship to the area that your working in. Plus like the sending of the data via email. Smart touch.

Awesome!. Today was a lunar eclipse and we all wanted to know when and where the moon would rise so we could look for it. This app totally delivered showing the location and time in the night sky where the moon would rise, superimposed over the night sky!

MIND BLOWINGLY PERFRCT. I rarely discover an application in any genre that is perfect. My mind is one that is always working out how things could be improved, it's just the way I am. And most apps can be improved, most of them greatly so... But I have to say this app is perfect. I bought it on a whim while on a location scout for a film shoot, and within a couple of minutes I already had a profound sense of what the sun was going to be doing to my set. I was honestly blown away that it was that simple, and accurate. If you are a shooter in any capacity you have to have this app. I already can't imagine prepping another job without it. $10 is a steal. To the developers: thank you for this!!

Will put this to a lot of use!!. Already planning a sunrise over a bridge shot this Sunday morning thanks to this app. (and know that it will be next year before the moon will be perfect for another location - I may have to settle for other than a full moon!)

Photographers this is it!!. I'm not sure why this app has no reviews but it's everything you could want. There are two live views, one with the camera and a 3D version also. Both are excellent options as well as the typical map view that most of the similar apps have. This one is very simple to use with minimal to no learning curve at all. I have tried a handful of these while yes most offer the same info in some form or fashion I find this app to be superior to the lot in presentation, use and quality.

Astronomer. This is an excellent app that I have been hoping for for a long time. It's well done, accurate, and fairly easy to use. The developer will continue to refine this app as stated on their web site. I'm very happy with this app. It is fun, useful, and interesting.

Handy-ish. I know this isn't supposed to be a precision app, and their honest about that, but as a photographer it falls short for being really useful. I'd love to be able to stand in a spot by a window and predict when the sun will shine through at the needed angle, but the lack of precision of this app has made that difficult. I have yet to see the AR position of the sun line up with the real sun, even live. I wish when this happened I could grab the virtual sun and drag it over the real sun to recalibrate it for that session and get a more accurate prediction for another day.

Congratulations.... I have been using this app for several years and now the latest comprehensive update has brought it from being a good app to being a truly fantastic app. Due to the layout and information contained therein, I have deleted three apps from my iPhone and iPad that I previously used to fill in the gaps, and are no longer necessary. Congratulations, good job.

Most Useful. This is one of the most useful apps I've found. I use it frequently for a variety of purposes from garden planning to real estate showings. It is highly functional and flawlessly stable, and above all easy to use.

If you hate that yellow stripe bc it obscures the terrain there *is* a way to get rid of it. Praise Ra! To shed that jaundice jinx go to Settings, then... "Advanced Settings" (Scroll down to) "GOOGLE MAP" (Then turn on Legacy Experience) "Always use flat (legacy) experience" It would've been nice if that "off button" was easier to find or mentioned when my review condemning that wretched yellow stripe was... acknowledged. FEB2023 UPDATE One of the recent updates added a yellow stripe that you can't get rid of. It gets in the way when you're trying to see what is South of your target area. There is no way to adjust its transparency. There is no way to toggle it off. Sometimes it takes me twice as long to analyze an area because of that wretched yellow blob. Unnecessarily time consuming. A very effective way to obstruct and annoy people trying to use the app. JAN 2020 UPDATE I received an email message from the developer. Which is information. The little panel on the right will go away if you swipe on the tab to the edge of the screen. ...and your Otterbox doesn’t get in the way, or make you hit the Compass icon which in turn rotates your map giving you virtual whiplash. I still love this app, but after getting rid of the panel I still want to adjust the size of the circle. Or maybe just lock the circle to a specific Size — like we can for location — on the landscape. Still a fantastic and very useful app! (Side Note: Unfortunately, I cannot give up the Otterbox until Apple comes out of their gilded offices long enough to make a less fragile/better quality product.) ORIGINAL REVIEW I love this app and I use it often. However, it needs one minor tweak to make it 5-Star perfect. The circle detailing the sun’s path is always partially hidden behind the panel on the right side of the screen. If this panel were at the top or bottom of the screen, or if we could adjust the circle size, we would have the “complete picture.” ...and a 5-Star app.

Best in Show. I purchased two similarly priced apps over the last 6 months and I'm regretful that this one didn't show up in my search results either time. There are numerous reasons why this stands high above the others, but as there isn't enough time nor space for an explanation of each one, I'll give you the best one: Integrated google maps street view. It's all I wanted in my past underwhelming app purchases, and of course the one thing I didn't get. Now, instead of having to figure out how to show a generated computer mock up of the sun or moon on any given location's horizon in order to know if the next mountain over will be blocking their respective rises or sets, I can just (so long as there's a google street view available from google maps) I just look at a 360 panorama with the trajectories overlayed. It's truly a wondrous, majestic, and unparalleled experience. I'm in awe of the power in mine own two hands. Again, there are more examples as to what separates this guy from the rest, but I've got a moon rise to plan and there's no time for me to kick-down all you need to know. Check that. I already did kick it down, as there's nothing else needing to be said, what with the google maps integration automatically putting this app in the carpool lane while the others sit tight in bumper to bumper traffic back there on the 405. See ya, sucka's.
