Excellent for French -English. I’m using this app for French - English. I live in the US and it’s more than useful since years. I removed a start because the app is NOT taking the entire screen on iPhone X.

Ultra lingua bookshelf. The bookshelf option is really useful. I keep all of your dictionaries in one application. I am studying Spanish and am a volunteer translator. I specially like the verb conjugation features.

Best Language Dictionary Collection. I use the French and German to English dictionaries. The newly redesigned layout is amazing on the iPad. Being able to see conjugations and definitions all seamlessly on one page is incredible. You don't have to hit the reverse button to search words in either language. Everything is so crisp and fluid. Hands down the only app to get for translation and conjugations! The only change I would like to see is an added grammar page of noun, pronoun, and adjective declensions, like a small grammar handbook.

Searches only exact spellings. I like the feature that accesses my other Intralingua Collins dictionaries to search for words, but it only finds exact matches. So, "disculpa" will come up but not "disculp" -- but how do you know to add the "a" to get a match?

Stops audio playback. This app stops audio playback as soon as you enter it. Very annoying.

It keeps getting better and better!. I use it heavily for Italian and French in an academic setting.

Near perfection!. I've been using this app for years and the interface keeps improving! You can easily find verb conjugations by typing in any form of the verb. The interface is clean, simple and uncluttered. Plus, the search history and customizable favorites make this a great study tool. *** MY ONLY COMPLAINT is the tiny "x" button to erase the word. Sometimes, I need to tap this two or three times before it responds. It would be better if you could just tap once in the entry box and start typing a new word immediately instead of wasting an extra second or two trying to erase the last entry.

Ultralingua Dictionaries. For a number of years I have used the Collins Pro Español–Inglés by Ultralingua as well as the Gran Diccionario Vox de la Lengua Español. Just recently I purchased the Ultralingua Collins Italian-English. The first two dictionaries are excellent and the latter is also good and has a surprisingly complete vocabulary. Naturally, as with all Ultralingua products the software is excellent. Perhaps most importantly, the Ultralingua customer support is unsurpassed. All three products are well worth the money.

The best multilingual dictionaries on iOS. I am bilingual in Spanish and use the app for work. I'm also a language hobbyist and love the ability to search all dictionaries at the same time to define unknown words and study their origins. I have tried many other English to foreign language apps and none compares to the completeness, ease of use and accuracy of Ultralingua. The monolingual Spanish and French dictionaries are also the best on iOS.

Great!. It’s very helpful. I find all words, and I love the verbs very detailed!

Sale. The half price sale was enough for me to upgrade as I only had one dictionary. I wasn't going to pay full price for dictionaries I already paid full price for. I even added another. But for those with several apps, the upgrade price may be too high. I find this new version is better integrated—mainly words and verb conjugations. The app works better too. The display is too spread out. It looks nice but more could be put on a single screen. No hint that an item is expandable or maybe I just haven't figured it out yet. This refers to the iPhone version. Might look fine on the big iPad screen. I would like the French verbs identified as intransitive or transitive, and where applicable have the associated prepositions shown.

Multilingual Acquisition. As I glance over at my books on the traditional bookshelves, I feel nostalgic, revering those dinosaurs on the shelves, trying not to reminisce too much. I look at the dictionaries especially; they are looking back at me, silently sad, each one with its own memorable little history. One, titled Multidico, I purchased it in a bookstore in Tunis, Tunisia; I was attracted to it because it was multilingual and a reminder of my delightful fascination with linguistics and human communication! Alas, though, Multidico takes second place to Ultralingua, which I have used often to improve both my competence and performance in several Germanic and Romance languages! I appreciate both the verb conjugation and pronunciation tools! Thanks Ultralingua! May your business thrive and prosper!

Love the app, don’t love keeping two. I originally installed the bookshelf from a recommendation from a single language Ultralingua dictionary with the promise that I could use it and dictionaries for other languages in one app. The problem is that the bookshelf has never pulled in the purchase of the single language dictionary as promised. The developers used to send one off codes so I could pull in the single language dictionary every time a change was made to the bookshelf and I lost access to that language, but a few years ago they stopped responding. Now I have the bookshelf app with five dictionaries and a single language app installed. Its less useful to me to have to search the single language app separately, and it bugs me to have to keep two apps installed. The problem has also dissuaded me from purchasing other dictionaries in the bookshelf app. I would have thought they’d have fixed this bug by now, but apparently this “feature”, which is still advertised within both apps, is not seriously supported.

Important and a must have. This is very important to have to learn study 📚 more words I bought this so I can learn and expand my vocabulary in Italian 🇮🇹 language since I’m studying 📖 Italian 🇮🇹 in the Rosseta stone app and because you need to learn way more words like tou know you native language 💕 💗 💜💜💙💛💛💚 this app I bought the full version to unlock all the words in Italian

Useful!. Actully i like it, it's very simple and easy to use.

Great App!. I’ve used many foreign language dictionaries in the past but none compare to this one. Easy to use and, for the most part, very comprehensive. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars: would like to see more in-depth usage examples. Also, I’m often surprised at omissions and occasionally have to go to another source to get the translation I need. Otherwise, highly recommended.

Ultralingua Fantastic!. An amazing application and once you start to really use it..one realizes how useful it can be to learn the language. It is my constant companion!!!

Awesome Update!. This app has really helped me learn French. I've been using it almost daily for a few years, and I love the new layout. Definitions, expressions and conjugations all in one place. Love the navigation and easy to read font. Thanks for the awesome update! Update: Gotta say again how incredible the update is. Way easier to navigate than before. Intuitive, smooth, and fast!

Gorgeous. Ok, so this dictionary app is quite useful - amazing search that catches misspellings and searches both(!) languages, easy lookup of words used in the definitions (that is an awesome feature, by the way!), good conjugation, etc - all that stuff they say in the marketing text. But really, it's beautiful. The default font is gorgeous, the 'favorite' dog-ear is cute as hell, and switching languages is kind of fun (how do you make something like that fun?!). I mostly just use the English dictionary, but having the thesaurus and the English-Spanish all together in one app makes it so easy and just, well - pleasing - every time.

5 stars. The best dictionary.

Good but needs multi-dictionary search. This review is for both the app and two of the dictionaries (Apple won’t let me review the standalone dictionaries Ultralingua sells). The Ultralingua app itself is mostly great, in that you can have just one app for multiple dictionaries. However, unfortunately you can only search one dictionary at a time. If I’m looking for, say, an EN-ES translation of a word, I want to be able to search all my EN-ES dictionaries, not just one. It seems a single-app approach should allow this. As for content, well, I’ve learned that more words in a dictionary isn’t necessarily better. For my EN-ES example, the main one with 75k words isn’t better/worse than the Collins 55k one. The 75k one has more technical words (e.g., isotherm). But when I asked my Mexican wife to throw a test word at me (jamaica), the Collins dictionary had it (hibiscus), whereas the bigger 75k one didn’t. This is exactly why it would be great if you could search words across multiple installed dictionaries, or at least switch easily between different dictionaries for the same search term.

Purchased the Collins Italian-English dictionary. I’m a beginner Italian student and purchased the Collins Italian-English dictionary offered through this app because it seemed more informative than just using a translation app. I really like the full list of conjugations, etc. However, I’m surprised that in just a few paragraphs of simple reading there have already been a few words that I wasn’t able to find in this dictionary at all and a few more which I figured out the infinitive of but still did not find in the list of conjugations. Furthermore, the translation app does recognize and translate all of these words accurately so I’m further confused as to why they don’t appear in the dictionary...

very useful, no network required. I disabled my data plan while travelling abroad because the global plans were really expensive. Being able to use a multi-lingual dictionary off the network was invaluable. This program is attractive and extremely easy to use. I especially like being able to enter any form of a word (plural, conjugated, etc.) from either language and getting directed to the right definitions. Also, the definitions are thorough, and there are lots of example phrases. I use Ultralingua on both my iPhone and my iPad, and I love it. (Nice updates since first launch. Actual improvements.)

Wonderful. I hesitated to buy this because I already have a HUGE paper dictionary. But now most of my content is on the iPad, including music, books, podcasts. It is so much faster to look up words with the app. I study French and this is a big step forward for me in terms of what's in my toolbox for learning. I like the favorites feature because I can then make my own flashcards from special new words I want to remember. I am glad I have it now on my iPad!

I will never buy from Ultralingua again. If I had known that they were going to end-of-life my two previous Ultralingua dictionary purchases to make me pay twice for the same content all over again with a new "version", I never would have bought from them in the first place. This is even worse than when record companies made you buy the same music twice when they switched from vinyl to CDs, because in this case the quality is hardly different and the only form factor change is an arbitrary version number they put on the dictionary browsing software. Ultralingua clearly has proven themselves untrustworthy, as how long can we expect the new dictionaries to be good for until they change the software and recharge you all over again? One year? Two? Never again will I buy from Ultralingua.

Easy to use, but with one problem. Like many have said, this app and the separately purchased dictionaries work well. However, unless I haven't set the app up correctly, at least for me there is a serious problem. When words are marked as favorites, words from from different languages appear in the same list. I never want the words to mix. I have French, Spanish and German all mixed together, making the favorites quite useless for me. I'm never reading multiple foreign languages at the same time.

Portuguese English Dictionaries (both of them) are Awesome!. Olá! I purchased both the Ultralingua Portuguese-English Translation Dictionary and Verbs and the Collins Portuguese-English Translation Dictionary and Verbs apps / dictionaries. They are both sold / run through the Ultralingua bookshelf app, and they're fantastic and easy to use. I especially love how they are fully functional off-line, and customer support was excellent. For clarity, the “apps” are dictionaries (Ultralingua version, and the Collins version). They, and all other Ultralingua dictionaries, are run through the Ultralingua bookshelf, thereby making it super easy and convenient to flip back and forth between the two. I am studying European Portuguese, and both dictionaries have a mix of European and Brazilian Portuguese. Hopefully my review will help you decide which dictionary to purchase, or if you want to buy both. Either way, I feel they are worth every penny / Euro cent and more. Note that both dictionaries pull from the same database of verbs, and the conjugations are **excellent**. I love how the English translations are listed right below the verb tenses (a million of them, right? 😱) so you know exactly what is, for example, the meaning / correct usage for a Pretérito mais-que-perfeito composto (PMQPC). Like what the heck is a PMQPC???? Portuguese is such a difficult language, and these apps / dictionaries are super helpful. BTW, the PMQPC, which even as initials is difficult to type 😳, is the equivalent of the Past Perfect in English (ex: I had studied…) And one more note about the verbs: The verb count is around 6000+ for both English and Portuguese. The verb database tends to have more verbs than are found on the dictionary side, meaning you can look up a verb on the conjugation screen that might not be found if you searched from the dictionary screen. The biggest difference between the two dictionaries: Ultralingua has more words translated, Collins has more phrases. One suggestion for the developers: please add a flashcards feature (like you have for your desktop version) so words can be easily added to create a study list. This would make it a 10-star app. A couple notes about this review and the other Portuguese dictionaries and verb apps I’ve purchased or downloaded: 1. I own a kazillion apps, and this is the first review I’ve ever written (please don’t skewer me for being radio silent in the past). I took the time to write this because it was hard for me to choose between the two, and hopefully this helps y’all through the decision-making process. 2. I have many other Portuguese study tool apps, and while my limited budget guides my purchase decision (e.g. freebies or less expensive apps), I will say these two dictionaries were well-worth the money spent. Hope this helps!

The Best Dictionary. =========== UPDATE =========== After upgrading iOS from 8.3 to 9.1 this app crashed when launched. I contacted support and for the first time ever, they did not respond. After several days I contacted them again and they responded, telling me to uninstall and reinstall the app, which I did. This deleted all my purchased dictionaries. Their instructions stated that if this happened I could have the app reinstall all purchased dictionaries. This does not work. I contacted support again and again no response. I contacted them AGAIN and now nothing but silence. So I'm left with an app with none of the dictionaries I that I've paid for. From 5 stars to 1. =========== END OF UPDATE =========== This app is by far the best German/English and French/English dictionary I have ever used. It is comprehensive and gives plenty of examples of word usage. You can search for a conjugated verb or a verb in any tense and it will locate it, give you the definition and steer you to the infinitive. From there you can get all conjugated forms of the verb. I use this app every day, multiple times per day. It is the most used app on my iPhone and it is the only app about which I have no issues or complaints.

Great all-around app. I use this app frequently everyday, and I'm very pleased with the variety of dictionaries, the regular updates and the support. I have more than once emailed support and received a considerate and rapid response. I will say that the dictionaries (specifically Portuguese-English and French-English) don't appear to be as complete or thorough as other dictionaries. I have to sometimes use a dedicated Portuguese-English dictionary to dig up some words and to get some etymology. This is by far Ultralingua's weakness. They need to improve their current dictionaries or supplement with larger/better ones. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the app and like having it all together in one app. Other suggestions: 1. Make it easier to look up another word / clear out the old entry. The "x" to clear is rather annoying. A keyboard short-cut would be an excellent option when I'm using the dictionary on my iPad (with keyboard)! 2. Allow the customer to list their dictionaries in custom order. Thanks

Thesaurus. Bought the 2.99 app. It's a thesaurus for French or Eng, not a translator. Has verb conjugater. Prob. worth $2.99.

Interesting idea, wrong audience. The Ultralingua dictionaries are written for people who already have a good working knowledge of both languages. They are helpful when you need to find -- or better, be reminded of -- just the right word. They have lots of words with brief entries for each. For example, the Ultralingua Spanish-English dictionary has "over 75,000 entries with 290,000 translations." Their iTunes store page quotes a New York Times review as saying it is "for serious language students and translators who are looking for more precision." This audience already knows how to conjugate verbs, and may even be able to spell. The new version is better suited for beginners. For them it could be very helpful to be able to enter a conjugated irregular verb from something they are reading, and have the dictionary sort it out. This seems like a much better fit with the Collins family of dictionaries. Their Spanish-English dicionary has "over 55,000 entries with 100,000 translations" and many more examples of usage than does the Ultralingua dictionary.

Great dictionary, offline use, YAY iPhone X support. The title sums it up. I’ve used Ultralingua for years now, going back to 2010 or earlier. It’s a fantastic dictionary with conjugations, idioms, and slang (though no dictionary could ever contain all slang). I love that it works offline. And, I appreciate that this app can store multiple languages so I don’t have to open a new app. As a language teacher, this was the dictionary I’d recommend to students because it uses no data and is fast (the reference website we all know and love is great but fails in those two areas). Update: 5 stars! The only thing missing was iPhone X support and now it’s full screen!

Indispensable app; needs iPhone X optimization. This app is great in terms of content. I’ve purchased the French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish dictionaries. However, the app could use a UX refresh. It’s cumbersome to get into and out of conjugations, the UI is a little dated, and the app has yet to be optimized for the iPhone X.

Worth it. So expensive. But these are great dictionaries and so convenient. Full conjugations. Sample sentences. Highly recommended for serious language students.

Works smoothly and looks beautiful. The redesigned interface looks great and makes it easier to look up words in either direction quickly. I also love that the verb conjugations are bilingual and also available without having to switch modes on my iPhone. The favorites is great for those tricky words that I never can quite remember. I also like how the history function works.

Complete app for most languages. This collins app gave the good idea to collect all their most favorite and compete dictionaries in one app. Regularly update of this app is one the most advantage of this app

Best for learning a language. Access to all definitions of a word and all conjugations of verbs. Easy to use.

Recent Update is Excellent. The latest updates to the app are brilliant. Now I have one app for all my language dictionaries, and I particularly enjoy a new feature where clicking on a word expands the definitions below it without loading a new page, even allowing you to view several definitions at once for words listed next to each other. It makes the whole experience much smoother.

Add Swedish language. It's very good dictionary , I suggest to add Swedish language , I need it .

Does Not Support Family Sharing. It says it does, but it does not!

A breakthrough in mastering a foreign language. What app does is shorten the time between when you hear a word you don't know and when you find what it means so that it wins the race with the normal decay in mental activation that starts the moment you realize you hit an unknown word. In other words, you find the meaning of the unknown word before you get distracted by something else or forget what the word was. Particularly when you combine this dictionary with a flashcard app it becomes really powerful. Armed with this type learning support and internet radio plus a few books, the only barrier to learning a new language is motivation. Of course if also really helps to have something to talk to in your new found language.

Needs an update. This app hasn’t been updated in two years and it shows. Every time I try to download language library updates it crashes. It seems Ultralingua doesn’t want to comply with Apple’s privacy transparency requirements because there is no other logical explanation for why they are not updating. DO NOT BUY THIS APP until they update.

Optimize app please!. Like many other users here, I’ve been using the app for quite some time. Great translations and easy to use but really needs to be updated to fit the iPhone X screen. Would have given 5 stars easy.

Excellent *concise* dictionary. Although I was originally looking for an extensive, unabridged French-English dictionary in electronic form, I was unable to find one for under a few hundred dollars in CD-ROM form. So I ended up with this (Collins-Robert Concise French Dictionary) and have been extremely pleased! I have been able to rely on this, to a great degree, for translation of academic texts. I find this version user-friendly; its conjugations and plethora of idiomatic expressions are especially helpful. My main complaint is also in the realm of idioms--occasionally (according to the French professor with whom I collaborate on translations) the nuances captured in the dictionary are off, or the expression does not appear at all. And predictably, specialized or unusual vocabulary--to be found in most unabridged dictionaries--sometimes does not appear at all. But in terms of how this app advertises itself, I cannot imagine a better basic dictionary that covers 90% of my needs--and for $20! Pleased indeed.

please update. It just crashes on my mac please fix the bug

Excellent aid to communicating in Spanish. My husband and I have Ultralingua with us all the time for communicating with Spanish speaking friends. We can move quickly between languages and the grammar is now more accessible than ever. Includes lots of common expressions too. I hope to see even more expressions in the future.

Fantastic but outdated. One of my favorite dictionaries, but the app hasn’t been updated.

The bet. Is te best app in the app store...

Best language app I’ve found. I’ve used this for years, and I have zero complaints. Easy to use, no internet needed, rapid and efficient customer support—which I’ve needed just once in all this time. But I would kill for a Danish-English. Any chance of that?? Puh-leeze!

NO customer support. I'm having trouble opening the Bookshelf app, crashes every time I open it. I've asked Ultralingua twice to help, no response either time. I can't use any of the dictionaries at all. Prior to this problem, I really liked and used the app a lot. Be aware that their customer service is no support whatsoever. :( I have a new iPad Pro on iOS 10.

Ultralingua. Ok but I've already paid a lot for the current version. I wouldn't pay this much for an upgrade. I'll keep what I have or shift to another alternative :(

I love this app. This is so good - I have the French, French-English and French thesaurus add-ons and find it’s worth paying for quality. Love it on both the iPhone for quick reference - and the iPad. Love the verb conjugation - before that I only had 3 tenses.. in my repertoire. Love the fact that it gives plenty of examples too. Would love a french - english ‘slang’ add-on to bring my granny-french up to date. How about it?

The best. I use the Collin’s Italian - English dictionary all the time. It’s very smooth, has tonnes of example sentences and the verb conjugation is super convenient. I use it tens of times every day, and haven’t ever found an app anywhere near as good.

Excellent app, but pricey.. As a learner of several languages, it's really great to have an app that consolidates all my dictionaries. I love that you can search for a word within all the dictionaries at once in the Ultralingua app. Also love the integration w Collins dictionaries, because they have excellent conjugation lists and phrase explanations. All in all great app. Would be nice to see an Arabic dictionary soon. My only other problem is that each dictionary is quite pricey, so you really need to be prepared to invest in them.

Poor integration. Bought the French and Italian dictionaries prior to his one but none of my favorites came across so useless, had to delete this one. Don't bother

Good, but slower. I like the new combined bookshelf- it always seemed pointless to have multiple apps from the same company. The new interface is nice, but it'd be even better to have graphic icons when picking from the list of available dictionaries. I don't have many, but a graphic is always easier to recognise than some text. You could just use the icons from the standalone apps. Another negative is the search/dictionary lookup feels slower in the new versions (in the standalone apps too) probably because it goes straight to the entries now, rather than giving you a list of words to pick from first. Nevertheless as a user I'm left feeling like the process is slower (maybe give more visual feedback during the search process)

Crashes on iPhone 6. Agree with previous reviews, but it crashes when opening on iPhone 6.

I think the app for English-German is brilliant!. But is stupid that I cannot share the $20 dictionary with my iPad without buying the app again. The price is insane. Compared with competing products it seems ridiculous. However, if one is serious about learning a language, it is a worthwhile investment.

Ultralingua Collins dictionaries. I've used these dictionaries for a few years and they are the best value for money. I look forward to the day when the Indonesian - English dictionary by Echols and Shadily is available. It will save me carrying two heavy books..

Very polished, pleasure to use. Very nice usability improvements. Great layout and quick access to most used functions. It's nice to have multiple languages and thesaurus in a consolidated app. It's a pity the Apple doesn't provide app "upgrade" pricing mechanisms in the App Store, I've also purchased the French-English stand alone app in the past and would have appreciated it. (I really wish you would Apple, you're not doing us any favors for apps like these.) Thanks for the promo offer in lieu of an upgrade, which I learned about from the newsletter. In case you're reading this too late, their newsletter will let you know of future sales - download the basic app for free and subscribe from within it.

c'est génial!. This app is the best thing since . I've had it for over a year and I'm wearing it out. It must contain the equivalent number of entries of a very fat dictionary - I very rarely can't find what I'm looking for - and it sure beats the hell out of carrying around a fat dictionary. It gives really good, current examples of usage in context, and possibly best of all, it will conjugate verbs in any tense with a tap on the screen. I have two minor gripes with the new version of the app - on my iphone 4 screen it flickers when I'm scrolling through a long entry and it can be a bit 'laggy'. Also it would be great if the 'conjugations' links were tinted a bit darker so you're less likely to hit them by accident when you're looking for a definition. I didn't much like the default font in the new version (it was a bit fussy and distracting) but quickly discovered how to change it. Really good app.

Great improvement. I am really enjoying the new update. Much easier to use.

Works v well, once again. The dictionaries on this app will cost you money, but generally far less so than their physical equivalents out there. There's also the benefit that comes with storing multiple dictionaries on one device, offline. All in all, this is a good quality app that translates the helpfulness of a good bilingual dictionary into a compact form. It also actually works with iOS 8 now, thanks to the new update that comes after a long period of crashing on opening.

Much improved except very slow. I like the new set up and conjugations incorporated. My only complaint is that it is now really slow.

Needs fixing. I would have given this a 4 or 5 before the update. Now I has become painfully slow. I hope you can fix it.

Dud and NOT Free. The material is good, but this app is NOT free! It is worthless without spending at least $A20 on each dictionary or variant. It's an attempt to sell again what we've already bought at a pretty high premium. There's no way I could justify this app because any advantage in usability is quite minimal. Greed seems to have trumped commercial common sense, especially for current users who'd be well advised to stay with their current solution or go with alternatives if it comes to it.

Great app, but... crashes on open on iOS 10. I can't open this app since installing iOS 10. It immediately crashes. However I used to love this app and used it a lot for both Spanish and Italian. Please update for iOS 10 (iPhone 6s+).

Easy to use and comprehensive. Great app that works well offline when you are out and about. This will be a resource I will use for many years. In future it would be even better if more assistance with pronunciation could be built in, especially with conjugations of verbs for ils/elles!

Won't open on iPhone 6. Crashes and won't open

Solid dictionary. Update: this app no longer works on iOS 9 and iPhone 6 for me (instant return to springboard). Running the dictionary separately does though. ----- Good app that is very handy for my spanish lessons. It could do with some more idioms but overall I’m very satisfied. I’d be lost without it. The only feature that I think would be good would be Siri integration.

Agree with previous. Having already purchased the app, it seems exploitation to have to pay a further amount for what should be an update.

Excellent. Love the new look and functions. What would make it perfect is sound for each word.

Not user friendly. It feels like I've wasted my money because this is so difficult to navigate around I tend to not use it. Would love to be able to enter a word and it goes to that word or the verb, but instead you have to work out which screen you need to be on, then which language you need to select before retyping the word after trying on the 'wrong' search bar!! Very frustrating.

Very convenient and helpful. Coordinating my three dictionaries (so far) in one app is very convenient: excellent idea! It is true that these bilingual dictionaries cannot replace the far more ample versions on my library shelves, but I cannot take them with me. The two forms, app and hard copy, are complimentary, each withs pros and cons. This app and three dictionaries was a worth while investment. Its search function is improved and welcome, allowing finding forms of verbs I've not recognized.

The perfect dictionary application!. The best dictionary app on the App Store. I've been using this app with the French<->English dictionary whilst living in France and I can strongly recommend this as an essential learning tool for all language students. The dictionaries are pricy, but the prices are certainly justified by the comprehensiveness of the content, and the attention to detail that has gone into designing the interface, which takes the needs of the user into account before anything else! Over the time I have been using this app, it has been constantly updated and improved, and it keeps getting better and better and faster and faster. A great investment you will use over and over again! Highly recommended!

Not iOS 8 compatible. This is a good app but it won't launch on iOS 8, I've been waiting for an update for a while now.

Crashes after latest iOS update. I'm having exactly the same problem. I can't use it all. It crashes without opening. I have an iPhone 5s. An urgent fix needed.

Does mot work on iPhone 6. Paid lots of money for it a while ago. Still waiting for iPhone 6 update. Current version does not run. Get your act together if you want to charge real money for an app!

A linguistic milestone. Simple, crystal clear and accurate: excellent! Love it.

Pointless. Why would someone pay $10 or more extra for something they already have?? I've already paid $25 or so for one of these dictionaries and now they want me to buy it again for some minor usability improvements? This should be an update, not a completely new app. The developers should start to care more about their customers and less about their profits

Poor. No real explanation about what you are getting - wanted a good French / English dictionary - they may be good at each - but to pay $20 for the translation is bad news

Great update - with one caveat. This app is a great update. I use the French-English dictionary on it, which is more concise than the Collins French-English dictionary that can also be loaded on the same up (I use Ultralingua's Collins French-English app separately, but it is available in this application as well). One issue I had was on my iPad. When I loaded both the French-English and the Collin's French-English dictionaries, the French-English version was basically inoperable. It seemed to suffer from incredible performance problems (i.e., 30-90 seconds to respond to any keystrokes). This isn't an issue on my iPhone 4, just on my 1st generation iPad. Anyway, the fix for me was to delete the app and redownload it from the app store. Then, I only installed the French-ENglish dictionary. Now it works great. (Again, for me, this works because I have the Collins French-English dictionary as a separate app. And, yes, I have two because often one of the definitions is better/more appropriate than the other and the Collins has examples.)

On and off. When I first got this app it worked well. Now it doesn't work properly and when I do a search for a word it only searches for verbs and vice versa. I've tried reinstalling and reloading dictionaries but still same problems

Ultralingua. Avant la dernière mise à jour, on pouvait copier et coller du texte dans le dictionnaire. Maintenant, ce n'est plus possible. C'était bien pratique pour prendre des notes.

Love it! If i can use it…. I love this app and i love the consolidation of the dictionaries, since i live/work in 3-4 languages. BUT since the last ios update, it CRASHES on start up. When are you going to fix it?? It's been months!

Grandfather rights to old dictionaries. Grant grandfather rights to old dictionaries and I'll consider using this app.

Great App. I use it in conjunction with Google Translate, and I find the 2 indispensable.

Best dictionary app?. The most annoying thing about this dictionary is its font. It’s tough to read. The performance of the app is terrible it’s laggy on my iPhone 8 which is a pretty new phone. It lacks many features that other free dictionaries have, for example, ability to add notes. The dictionary is not complete it lacks many words. No voice pronunciation is available. The UI is cluttered...

Not as good as it could be. Since the consolidation of all dictionaries into one file, it added one useless step to the consultation process. First, the user has to open the file, and then he has to open the selected dictionary, before being able to actually look for the required word. Instead of simplifying the process, the new consolidated dictionary made the consultation process longer. It is unfortunate!

Problem. I got some problem with the programm can you help me

A constant companion. So, I haven't written many reviews on iOS apps, but feel this one is deserving of it. As I study and teach languages I've found this application to be my constant companion. I love that it can be used on both iPhone, iPod and iPad with the same license and wish there was more integration with the MacOS version. Please bring the MacOS flash card feature to the iOS version and sync the two would be all I can imagine as possible improvements. I feel this is the dictionary standard on which all will be compared and judged. Keep up the great work. I also want to mention the Bookshelf app that unites their various dictionaries is brilliant and something that others can only dream of.

Claims it consolidates all purchased dictionaries in one place -- it doesnt.. Fix this.

Great program. Keep up the good work.

More than a dictionary. I have use this app since a long time when I had a Palm Pilot until now that I have an IPad.

A very useful tool!. I have used this dictionary (and its predecessor from the days of palm pilots) and find this version exceptionally useful to work with in searching for the right word, correct translation, proper conjugation. It is one of the pricier apps - but it provides excellent value for the money you spend. And it is convenient to use the same platform for other languages- so I keep my French and Portuguese dictionaries conveniently linked.

👍. Really I like it, specially when I'm looking for phrasal verbs..

English italian, English German, these. I am only disappointed that they are not off line

almost there. GOOD ! Nice interface. brought back the copy and conjugate button on this version compare to stand alone dictionary. This version allow you to recuperate the dictionaries you bought previously. But for some reason i can't explain, all the dictionaries previously bought didn't show up in the bookshelf, even if i followed the instructions. And the fusion seems to the available only once… I would have gave 5, but i gave 3 for the recuperation problems, and not working with iOS8

Be careful!!!. If you buy a dictionary on your iPhone it will not work with the Mac App... You'll have to pay twice... I think that shouldn't be. That's not right.

Nice update. Very nice update. The integrated dictionaries are wonderful!

Earlier fonts were better. This is still the best for me but honestly the earlier version was better for me and was more user friendly. Letters in earlier version were bolder and easier to read.

Very confusing as it says Try It for everything. I tried this app but it does not recognize that I have any Ultralingua apps when I do have some. It just says "Try It" for everything listed app. How can this be a desktop? This app is a selling tool! No one needs this to be installed because if you need anything offered in here, the Apple Store will offer it. I am removing this from all of my devices.

Bravo. Excellente version

I tried new design - no thanks. BRING BACK OLD INTERFACE - as option perhaps. OR FIVE NE MY MONEY BACK!! The old design had its flaws (too thick, more taps necessary) but it was efficient. Now u have to scroll kilometres and miles of text to get to what I need and it's not good on eye too.

Fautes en français. À la première lecture de cette application, on note deux fautes: 1. Bienvenu! Bienvenue s'écrit avec un e lorsqu'il s'agit d'une interjection. 2. Avez-vous déjà utiliser Ultralingua? Utilisé est ici un participe passé et non un verbe à l'infinitif. Je vais me passer de ce dictionnaire avec 2 fautes à la 1ère page. Comment y faire confiance?

What is the point of this newsstand like app?. It doesn't recognize all the ultra lingual dictionaries I have on my device

les dictonnaires Ultralingua: excellents. Cependant, je n'ai pas trouvé d'avantage à utiliser l'étagère versus simplement créer un dossier "Dictionnaires" pour y ranger mes 3 dictionnaires Ultralingua, surtout que l'étagère n'accepte pas un des trois (Français-Anglais).

Old Version Excellent, New Useless. I paid good money for the old version (Brit Flag), then more good money for the new. Latter was accessible with diff for a while, and actually very good. Now it is impossible to access, aleays treats me as if never purchased, and will not sync with other Apple devices. The new version was great in all respects, bu something screwed it up. Estoy triste!

Very nice. Love the update

Awesomeness. Love Ultralingua...

Great!. Very helpful and easy to use

Annoyed. As much as I liked the product when the dictionaries were separated I find it very annoying that after spending $20 for each of six dictionaries I am now encouraged to spend $10 for each of six new dictionaries. I see no reason to do so any time soon even if the new product has many more features. This style of marketing does nothing for customer loyalty.

OS 9.1. My app crashes under OS 9.1

Italian-English dictionary is great. The flexible design allows for very quick lookups of words and all the verb conjugations. I find the definitions to be accurate and they also have useful alternative meanings, phrases, etc.

Great!. I've never been disappointed while using this. I've been using it for 2 years and have always gotten what I needed from it.

Not really "Portable". I happen to like the dictionary, I have it on my Mac for the 3 languages I speak but am extremely disappointed that purchases do not transfer from my Mac to my Mobile devices so the "solution" offered by app support was to buy all 3 again ($60) or they could refund me my Mac purchase so I could buy them for my mobile devices. None of the 2 options solves the real issue which is I expect to have full portability.

GREAT app. This app is amazing! I had the older version of the Ultralingua dictionary and decided to upgrade, and I am so happy I did. You don't need any kind of wireless connection to use your dictionary, it's efficient and accurate. I downloaded the french version and I won't be using any other dictionaries from here on out. I love it!

Excellent app. I use this app several times a day, every day, to learn Spanish, and have found it to be very thorough and accurate. It would be nice to list a few more colloquialisms, though, such as the expressions you are likely to hear on radio or TV.

Use it All the Time. Love this app for quick look-up of words, but especially verb conjugation. It's so helpful in determining which word meaning is appropriate for the context. I have noticed that a few English words don't have Italian translations and vice versa! All around great app!

More smart updates!. The back and forwards buttons are really helpful and great -- a simple addition that makes a big difference for browsing entries and moving from one thing to another. I can't wait to see how it looks and runs once I get my iPhone 5!

Nothing but an Ultralingual commercial. This app provides no user benefit over having separate dictionaries unless you are really, really overloaded with icons. With this app, it will take longer now for you to get to the dictionary you want, introducing an extra click while exposing you to the Ultralingual shop front with company info and marketing you likely don't want to see day in day out.

Complete and easy to use. Update to the update: A couple of e-mails later I have my access back! Great customer service! -—- Update: The additions of an English dictionary and thesaurus is great. But now I cannot access my French-Eng or Spanish-Eng dictionaries from the bookshelf. And trying to add the via the. Cloud produces no results Major disappointment. Loss of a star. End update. _ And so much lighter than paper dictionaries! I use Spanish/English and French/English. I just added French/Spanish. On the few occasions I have not been able to find a translation I have had to go into Google search mode because they were not in my big paper dictionaries either.

Bug fix needed. Latest version has a problem with opening delay resulting in first letter or two of entries into search field being cut off. I'm constantly having to hit the delete key and start over typing my search term. It happens especially frequently when quickly multitasking between apps. This annoying problem did not happen in prior versions. Please fix. Otherwise, a very good product.

Why must we repurchase content we. I agree with the unhappy customers forced to repurchase dictionaries they already paid for once. This is the only app I know of where you have to repurchase content you have already paid for. When the New Yorker magazine upgrades its app they don't make me repurchase all my old magazines. When Kindle updates its iPad app I don't have to rebuy all my books.

Excellent resource. I used to carry several references and dictionaries for my language classes and these apps replaced all of them. Well made and very handy.

Excellent. Not cheap but worth every penny. Have had this app w/Italian for several years. A must for students of any language. Support is great when you need it.

Great but please change pop up menu. I love this dictionary! It is the best for learning a new language but there is one big annoyance - the side menu pops open everytime the application is opened. This forces the user to choose and click the dictionary to use. When searching for a word quickly or using the application a lot - this can become very cumbersome . Please change this!

A big helper!. This version is really good. I've liked them all, but this one is easier tonuse and very complete. I find I sometimes use it even for defining English more clearly.

Love the current version. The current upgrade is user friendly, especially love the words at the top that appear in response to keystrokes typed. The way the verbs are presented now are more convenient than in previous versions.

WORKS on iPhone 6. Thanks to another reviewer, I just discovered UltraLingua Dictionary Book Shelf app WORKS on iPhone 6 and iOS 8 after all. Just delete the app from your iPhone 6, restart your phone and then reinstall the UltraLingua Dictionary Bookshelf app, and finally, launch the app and Restore your purchased dictionaries. You have to scroll to the bottom of the "Try It" dictionary list to find the "Restore my purchases" command.

Collins French. Great reference..versatile and easy to use. Only flaw is the very small size of the "x" to erase text in the search box. Often conflicts with the reverse French/English icon. Should be much bigger and separated from other symbols

Ridiculously useful. I can't say enough good things about this app. I've been using it to learn Portuguese while taking classes in Brazil. The translations are good. I love the offline mode, all of the verb conjugations, and for words with multiple uses will give you a bunch of examples. Pricey for an app, but worth every penny.

Great as always but..... I have used Ultralingua for years and love it. I especially like the full conjugation of verbs & suggestions if possible words. My one negative comment is that it hesitates when entering a word making it slower.

Great App!. This fascinating app is great for students. I use this app almost every literature class and it is a great and quick way to look up definitions and use the thesaurus. I also used this app when I had to translate a whole story from Spanish to English and vice versa and it worked out great. Awesome Advantageous App.

Best dictionary app. Wow this app is awesome, straight up. It's easy to use and has the words pop up real quick. Never need a physical dictionary again.

Great!. When I got my new iPhone 6 at first it kept crashing, but I did what was suggested...deleted the app, powered off the phone, turned it on again, downloaded the app. But all my dictionaries weren't there, but I tapped on More dictionaries and they were all there. Just needed to download them. Love it!

Worthless app. This app is like running the cart before the horse. I have 5 different dictionaries that I purchased previously and they are not recognized by this app. Am i expected to buy all of them again to get this app to work? Some dictionaries I would like to upgrade to a higher level and there is no upgrade path. They expect you to buy the advanced dictionary at full price duplicating the words you already bought. I have practically given up on this company and use the Word Reference app for FREE. Bad UI and bad business!

User Since iPhone 1 Came Out.... These guys have been doing updates free for years. They have little opportunity to re-monitize the dictionaries but must support them. I do not like buying 3 dictionaries again but reduced prices help take away the sting. Complaining now does not help.

No upgrade.. I have used and liked UL on my Mac and iPhone for years. I will try the new version but wish there was an upgrade route for existing users. Too expensive to keep buying in as if a new user.

awesome lang app!. I use several ultralingua language dictionaries are they work slick and are accurate and well developed. The multiple languages also integrate perfectly in a single app interface, which is wonderful.

GREAT dictionary but...,. Really THE best dictionary out there. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because of the having to repay for the big upgrade (granted, I bought it at the discount price). I understand Ultralingua is a business and I repurchased the app because it is a GREAT dictionary I'm just worried it will happen again. As to those saying there are better FREE apps out there; SNAP OUTTA IT! There is nothing out there free that comes close to this app (well WordReference comes close, but not in sleekness and design, and hey, that's why we use Apple and Apple approved products -- the wonderful interface). Keep up the great work

Depend on it and love it!. I find this app to be indispensable when I need quick translations and definitions. It is accurate, easy to use and fast.

Ultralingua French-English Dictionary. Having studied French long ago as an undergrad, I am rusty to say the least and need a dictionary and verb conjugator. Having Ultralingua on my phone and iPad, puts help at my finger tips whenever I need it. It is easy to use, intuitive, and thus very helpful.

Great. I had some trouble consolidating my dictionaries but the customer service manager helped out and now the app is perfect. You can switch dictionaries easily by pressing the title at the top.

Great app!. This updated app is even better than the previous edition which I thought was excellent. I especially like the ease of finding conjugations of verbs. Even after living in France for four years, I find this the most useful and accurate tool for helping me get it right.

Super Useful. I take numerous language classes and travel frequently and this app always comes in handy. I'm used to pocket dictionaries not having certain words I come across but this app makes those encounters a rarity, especially important when I have a weak Internet connection that makes even Google Translate or other apps useless. Practically perfect!!!

Love it. Great app for language fans! Finally all of them fit in one place. Just wish I could organize my dictionaries in order to put my most used on top. Side note - also wish that Ultralingua would publish an ASL dictionary... I have three on my phone bc none are satisfactory! You guys would make a great one.

¡Excellente!. It's great to have such quick access to definitions and conjugations. I use other online references but none are as quickly accessible as this.

SF. I have the French, Spanish, and Italian dictionaries on my iPod Touch and I use them often when traveling. They are easy to use, informative, and worth their prices to me. I'm happy to see the imperative included in the conjugations.

Fantastic. I don't know what other people mean about being forced to buy new versions. The App automatically detected I have previously purchased apps and downloaded it immediately. Read and follow the instructions and I'm sure your purchases will show up. Great dictionaries! I like the app!!

Latest version doesn't work. I've used Ultralingua for years... going back to my old Palm device. The app was listed as an update in my iPhone so I did it. Now when I try to open it the app flashes on the screen and then goes to background. Clicking on it there results in the same issue. iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.2. Rebooting phone did not help. Also, the email I received from Ultralingua this morning mentioned v. 2.5 but the version number on iTunes is listed as 2.4.1 Hopefully Ultralingua will fix this soon. Otherwise my half dozen or more PAID dictionaries are useless

From loyal customer to offended ex-customer. Like many have said, this is inexcusable extortion of your customer base. I'd even be happy to pay for the updated app, but making your customers re-purchase the content is unforgivable. As someone else said, I do not have to repurchase my songs with iTunes updates, and I do not have to repurchase books with a kindle update, so why should I need to repurchase (expensive) dictionaries with an Ultralingua update? Here's to hoping that Google quickly puts you all out of business.

Great app!. I use both French-English and German-English. I like not only the quality of the translations, but also the many helpful tips on usage and idioms. It is as useful as any paper-based translating dictionary I have used--and a lot more handy.

Finally, running quickly!. Now that the slowness problem has been resolved, it is just simply a wonderful app!

Getting better. The newest version is a big improvement. I often match the English translation with my Italian dictionary and the definitions are more complete than in prior editions. More importantly the breadth seems greater.

For Foreign Language Students, Keeping It All Together. Ultralingua dictionaries are the best. I take college-level French and Spanish. Using the bookshelf, I keep these resources where I can find them quickly.

Poor support. There should be an upgrade path for existing customers. The previous version of this dictionary is very useful (and proportionally expensive) but now the company isn't trustworthy if they don't provide an upgrade path. Google's full browser-based translate is a close second and improving rapidly. Ultralingua should be careful they don't price themselves out of the market for new customers *and* alienate their existing customer base.

One app to rule all the dictionaries. Great move to make an app that can contain all the dictionaries. It's certainly more convenient than having separate dictionary apps. The user interface is great and the guys at help support are super friendly and super responsive. Ultralingua stays awesome as usual!

Deleted my purchased dictionaries. I've been wondering they were taking so long to update this and when it came, I was pretty excited ... except that it erased the French-English dictionary I bought. I'm honestly upset. An update is NOT an excuse to delete my purchases; give me my dictionary back or give me a refund.

Efficient APP. The new GUI is excellent. You can have as many dictionaries as you need. The only caveat I have is I am still expecting richer dictionaries. Too basic right now. Does not allow you to find subtle translations or understand expressions. I am dreaming of getting the Gimnink on line. I still have the paper back version.

Great App, Outstanding Support. Great app, combines access of my dictionaries for several languages into one place. A small start-up problem was promptly resolved by outstanding tech support. Thank you, Bill.

great resource. I am using Ultralingua appfor my Deutsch integration course and it has been a great help specially with the tenses. I just hope that while they improve their interface they are also working on adding more words into the dictionary, there are certain verbs/nouns missing which I had to look up in another dictionary. By the by, this is an awesome tool for beginner learners.

Excellent app, responsive customer support. This is an excellent translation dictionary that is quick and easy to use. The verb conjugations are especially helpful. I emailed customer support about an error/bug, and they emailed back the next day that they will fix it in the next release.
