Great teaching app. This is a great teaching at four beginnings of all ages. My grandchildren wrote their first cold is it. I also have an elder in his 50s who wrote his first coat with it. I highly recommend. +[(:-) Note to programming staff: List upgrade doesn't work for me I have no idea how to us import. Says I need some kind of parental ID?

Pizmo. We got this for my 7 year old to begin to develop an understanding of computer programming. The program has several graphically controlled command modules instead of typing code. At the beginning you are lead through a series of tutorials. Graphics and learning modules seem well developed. The individual program command modules are not described in the learning modules and can be very cryptic leading to a frustrating experience. Info buttons on each command module cold lead to a help page to describe the functions of each.

Beautiful modern take on an old favorite. The iPad is the perfect medium for this new take on LOGO. The idea of using a "game" format to teach the basics of LOGO programming is brilliant.

Fun intro to programming. Seems like it would be fun intro to programming for my 4yo. Little too hard now, but will start once she can read.

Buggy. Fun and educational. However there are many bugs that make it unplayable after the first few levels

iOS 8 has lot of issues. Hi there, this was a good game but has so many issues on iOS 8. App freezes with icons disappearing or completely missing. I hope someone is looking into fixing it. -s

It's ok. U can move the turtle in weird ways but I want to be able to make a small game and there needs to be more than a turtle

A lot of potential, but needs work. There doesn't seem to be any sound, which is a serious lack. There are bugs in the levels, the difficulty progresses far too quickly, and there is no way to design custom levels. But it does what it says on the tin: Teaches programming basics while seeming like any other game. Also, the multiple users feature is an unusual and greatly appreciated bonus. Four stars because it doesn't seem to have any competition.

Teacher Review: Good Little App. This is an interesting programming app. I like the layout, graphics and price. We tried Hopscotch with a class, which was a disaster. This is much more straightforward, but could use some tweaks to make it easier to use with kids. Some of the directions are confusing. With more detailed directions explaining cause and effect, this would be 5 stars for me. For example, why does the turtle need to change colors to achieve a goal? The app says that there is a problem that needs to be solved, but as a user it doesn't seem that way. Some of these details seem counterintuitive, but not so much that I wouldn't try this with a group of kids. This is definitely worth evaluating!

Amazingly well done. This app is truly well designed. I ran into a few very minor bugs, but other than that, it is fantastic! and as if that was not enough, it works on iPhone and iPad! I just have one suggestion: It would be great if you could share your "projects" or at least export them and import them so you could move them from device to device. Other than that, this app is great! A must buy!

Buy!!!. Buy!!! Children & adults will enjoy a game format & enjoyable content with simple step instructions. Ch. 3 may be challenging for those new to programming concepts (me) but who wants an app you can finish in 2 hours anyway?

Great app!. This is a great implementation of the classic programming language LOGO for small kids. My 7 year old loves it! And I have fun playing with it as well. I very highly recommend this app!

Very nicely done "TouchLogo". This is a clever UI atop good ol' turtle graphics! Very well done, simple, touch-friendly editor. Nice job burying, but allowing, advanced features.

Great take on LOGO. Way better than spending time hurling birds. This is both educational and fun, and the step by step introductions are flawless. It works natively on iPad, so my kids can have a larger canvas. Devs: try to remove some of the modal dialogs; assume edit in most cases rather than prompting edit/delete. Also, my son made it through many levels without 'getting' the objectives of that level-- perhaps make it a bit tougher to advance.

Reminds me of my youth!. My first encounter with computing was in the 1st grade in the early eighties where a used a program called Logo on an Apple IIe and would move a "turtle" just like this. Hope to inspire my little ones.

Did you kid test this? No WAY a 4-year-old can do this. The lack of sound means that the player needs to be able to read at about a 2nd-grade level. Some of the controls are not intuitive, like how to reorder the tasks. This has the potential to be really good for 4-6 year olds, but you need to address the lack of sound-based instructions AND more intuitive UI.

Love it, and don't let the 5+ dissuade you. What a wonderful app. My 4yo would be considered too young according to the description, but i was extremely surprised to see how quickly she picked up on some of the core concepts (move, pen up, pen down, colors, angle, sound). Repeat loops are above her level at this time, but she loved the colors, the smart gem outline matching, etc. If anything, i wish there were a way for me to define some additional tasks for her to solve. The level of complexity rises a little too quickly in the current samples. I'd also love to see some additional animals/objects, and more advanced sound options, eg the option to have a shorter pause, repeat over c/c+ with zero pause to create laser-like effects, variables for the sounds to generate increasing note ranges, a rainbow pen option, etc. I looked a long time for a decent app to get her introduced to the joys of programming. This is he best option I've found. It brings me back to the first time i was able to do simple things with cbm64 basic. Oh, and one more thing, please incorporate some sort of program exchange, so people can show off their code, import the examples of others, etc. Lovely job. This app will be big, I'm certain of that! Get it.

Shell Programming. As someone for whom learning various programming languages (Visual Basic, Java Script, PHP) has been a struggle, I found this app very helpful in the way it steps you through creating simple programming routines and concepts. The ability to drag & drop functions makes it very accessible for anyone to start experimenting with creating simple programs. I have used the tutorials and small library of examples to create a couple of fun routines. I could see a bright and persistent child gaining a lot from this app, but I wish it had just a little more depth of instructional help, particularly considering it's intended audience. Here's a wish list for future updates (if any): 1- A way to enter specific position coordinates manually via the keyboard, or assign a variable to it. 2- A way to play a saved routine or "Project" directly without having to open it in edit mode first. 3- A bit more depth of instructional help. Please quickly and simply explain what's going on in the procedures, perhaps with some quick, common examples and/or access to other helpful reference materials. 4- Perhaps a way to view and manipulate the actual code being generated.

Good help is hard to find. Agree with pizmo, help buttons referring to a real help page would be good. I like programming games to relax and have fun with. I tried move the turtle based on others suggestion but haven't been able to get into it. I'll try a little more. As far as kids go I couldn't see them getting into this without an actual programmer there to help. Kodable seems more in line with that. I tried contacting the dev a few days ago but haven't heard back. I'm not sure how responsive they will be as a whole though. I think this app may be good for a little coding challenge but I'm not sure I got through the challenges but that was all there was. They could be better written. There's a lot of interactive components to this app. You can play songs draw lines, but it leaves you alone at the end of the tutorials and doesn't propose some challenges for you to work out

Great App. Great app. Works nicely. The only complaint I have is that the for loops go above the statements when it seems natural to have them below. No big deal, though, since for loops go above the statements in real programming.

Instructions were vague.. Not clear on the final goal. Confusing. Too difficult for a young child.

Great programming tutor. All I expected & quite advanced concepts - subroutines supported etc. Some competition aspect would be great - maybe being able to compete with someone else's turtle somehow. Quite a leap to make that happen I know. I'm happy with the app though, will take my kid a while to get to grips with all the concepts. Thanks.

Good but short. This is a nice little game, but for $3 it should include more content. 27 levels is pretty short for a puzzle game of this price.

Very Difficult!. If you have a couple of average kiddos at or in pre K, this app is not for you. I had to take a few hours to go thru the tutorial and found it very challenging for me (42 YOA). I suppose it would be good for a high school or college kid trying to get their feet wet.

Excellent teaching tool. One suggestion. The app should highlight the commands that are being executed while the turtle executes them. This would enable a better troubleshooting and a better understanding of which instruction of the program is being executed in real time.

Great app. Been looking for something to help teach my 8 year old son how to program for a while. This app is almost perfect for the job. Agree with some of the other reviewers comments, in particular with the comment about the objectives. I haven't played it enough and there maybe an easy way to re-read the objective of each level, but I haven't found it yet. This and a few other minor issues mean I still need to help my son to complete the objectives sometimes, but what else are parents for? Overall, more than happy with the app.

Great app like it, please enhance it as well and make it perfect. This is a great app that really bring new colorful life to the old school "Logo turtle" back life. The character is cute, I like the way of using icons, slide bar and tap to do programming. Also the brilliant idea of getting the turtle to find/hit the diamond with trees as obstacles. Most of the Logo functions are there. Some suggestion after spent about a hour playing it. 1. Need some sound effect. The sound command in app is brilliant but we need some sound effect either a light background music or sound when the turtle hit the Damond. 2. A soft button to switch between task list (programming area) and turtle moving ground. I use my iPhone to play with it. Current version in game mode I will be given the challenge with the location of turtle, trees and diamond. But once I am in the programming page I can not go back to see the challenge page until I select to reset the level. This is kind of annoying because sometime I just want to adjust the distance to move and don't want to redo the whole procedure again if the developer can add a soft button that allow user to switch in their next update will be a great help. Overall a good educational app. Looking forward to your next update.

Loved the app. Great first learning tool for my 10 year old. Not to hard not to easy. A good challenge. Would really like more 'exercises' at each stage to consolidate what has been learned. Turtle was engaging and fun. Thanks look forward to much more.

I love it!!!. Great app for kids!

Great presentation, but major bugs. The Logo language presentation is very well done, but unfortunately, even simple programs like drawing a triangle don't work correctly, which makes it impossible to use. If these issues were fixed, I would give it 5 stars.

Nice app to introduce kids to programming. This app is a nice introduction to programming for kids. My son went through the tutorials and enjoyed them. It is simple yet engaging enough to keep him interested. It would nice for the developer to add more program examples that you can download (maybe they have done it already, I'd have to check...)

This is a Great Logo App. What We Liked: There are a few different Logo-based apps out there, but I haven’t seen one that equals the production values, comprehensiveness, and self-directed options that Move the Turtle contains. A child can grab this app and learn all the basics of Logo programming on their own (or with a bit of help from a parent). My own daughter (nine-years-old) has already completed most of the tasks in all three levels of this programming app! We’ve never tackled programming in any capacity before, so I was impressed at how independently she dug in (I didn’t even know she’d gone so far until I checked her account!) and how well she understood the material – there were a few activities where it looks like she can use some parental help to troubleshoot and clarify, but overall, she did great! Not only does learning Logo help develop general computer programming skills that can be applied to future programming languages, but it also calls into use logical thinking skills to troubleshoot programs that don’t produce the desired results, and helps to develop spatial intelligence through predicting the course the turtle will take across the visual field in response to the programming commands. I love that the app can be used with several children with the multiple user profiles, and the app is just very well put together – the design is clear and visually appealing. What We Didn’t Like: The addition of sound effects and narration for audio learners would be a nice addition to the app. Overall: Move the Turtle is a comprehensive, self-directed approach to learning a first computer programming language that will help to develop both general programming skills as well as encourage your child to practice logical and spatial thinking abilities. This first step for budding programmers is well designed and naturally engaging.
