Bible Gateway Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Mixed feelings. Some features I really like and are quite detailed. Others seem to come up short especially compared to Olive tree which I have been using for a few years now. Very frustrating is to try the reading plans and in selecting a chronological Bible it starts me off with today’s date so there is no way I could begin my study in the middle of the year I always have to begin to January 1! And there is no keeping track of which sections I have read or to continue reading into the next section. If I click on the date it automatically brings me to today’s date even if I have just been reading a section 6 months prior! Have just started to use this and so far my favorite is the couple‘s devotional and the ability to listen to my selected by will being read to me. Again a little frustrating, in trying the reading plan for chronological, the audio option is not present!

Bible Gateway developers what have you’ve done? It’s ruined!. This app quits so many times on me now that if I have a Bible reading to do, I take a screenshot because it’s guaranteed to quit on me! That’s sad. I’ve had the app unexpectedly quit on me…not exaggerating..at least 9 times during a one hour Bible study. The worst is when I go to History, that continuously quits as well. Have your software developers given up? I’ve never seen bad reviews like this for what used to be the best go-to Bible app! I’ve used it for about 6 years now. Is it costing to much to maintain and you don’t have the $ to keep app developers hired? I understand that this could be an issue when you went to the PAID vs ad-heavy version. Not seeing too much engagement with your reviewers either on this reviewing platform. That doesn’t build our confidence at all. Most of us have so many great notes and bookmarked verses that it’s hard to just abandon the app. Please tell us what you plan to do to remedy this!

Great resource, horrible app. I love Bible Gateway and use the website all the time for commentaries and all sorts of other resources they provide. On the website, it’s very easy to navigate through everything and find resources for the passage you are looking at, but with the app, it’s the complete opposite. I’ve had to delete and redownload this app multiple times so that it will work properly. It is not user-friendly at all, and impossible to navigate. If you are looking for a commentary for the passage you are looking at, it will give you all the commentaries in their entire library so you have to sort through the commentaries that aren’t even about the book of the Bible you are reading to find commentaries that are discussing your passage. It is a mess of an app and needs a lot of work done before it can be considered a functional app. I will always continue using their website, but the app is pretty worthless.

What happened?!. I have loved using this app but for a while now, I have not been able to navigate to any specific passages. I’m using it on my iPhone… at least, I was. For now, I’m using another app (along with an actual Bible). I tried the Bible Gateway app again today, after a long pause, but it still shows books listed double. When you click on either of the double listings, it takes you to a completely different book. The only way to get to the passage you want, is to scroll through every chapter, verse, and book, until you get to the passage you want. Also, like the other reviewer said, copying and pasting any passages has never seemed to work. I used to love this app, but I can no longer recommend it to anyone. it seems like the big problems began after they started using ads. you’re not able to finish reading the verse of the day until after you’ve read an ad, which kind of breaks up the spiritual value of the verse of the day. 😕 I deleted the app completely, then re-installed it. The double listings of books is gone now. Hopefully that fixed the other issues, too.

Going out on a limb here with hope this is once again 5 stars!. You can see my previous review below this one. I have waited a few months, and have been using the website some, but I MISS this formerly wonderful app! I see there is a new version, so I am downloading it again today, and praying it is once again worthy of five stars! If it is, I will renew my “Plus” membership next year. When it’s working properly, it is my favorite online Bible. Pray with me for Bible Gateway!! Former review: I have been VERY patient with the paid version of this app, $40 a year! And for the past year, it CONSTANTLY shuts down on me, and now won’t even take me to the Bible! I used to love this app and recommended it to everyone. I’ll try using the web version for a bit, but I cancelled my subscription today. My $40 has been a complete waste this past year…I can’t even look up scriptures, much less access the study tools I’m paying for. I’ve been hopeful after each bug “fix” update, but nothing changes…if anything, it has deteriorated. I’m so sorry.

Glad it’s not just me. I have been using this app for several years and period just started paying for it within the last year and really have loved it. But for about a three months or so the app on my phone has been terrible. It still works well on the laptop, but not on my cell phone at all. The audio portion rarely remembers which chapter I left off on. I can’t get into the Bible at all. I have to use another app completely to be able to read the Bible. The audio portion works, but I have to go and find the chapter that I was in. It only remembers the book. I do not know if it was an update or what but something has caused the app to stop working fluently as it used to. I am hopeful to update the rating to five stars soon. Because that is what it used to be in my opinion. And I am sure they can get it back there if they notice this recent strand of comments. As I see, I am not the only one.

Needs 1984 NIV and NonEnglish Bibles. We need all the Bibles on the app that are available on the website, including Bibles that are not in English, and I mean more than Spanish. There’s people in America who speak Chinese, Thai and Hungarian. And many many more languages. Using the app should not be an impediment to reading the Bible in their heart language. It’s also an evangelistic thing, as, for example, English speakers may want to use a non-English Bible to share a Bible verse in the language of someone who doesn’t speak English. also, it’s widely agreed by many or most Christians that we preferred the 1984 NIV Bible and then it was more inspired and more correct in the Holy Spirit than the 2011 and later versions of NIV. Bring back the NIV 1984! Finally, Zondervan, you must sever your connection with Harper Collins, because Harper Collins publishes the satanic Bible and other non-Christian or anti-Christian religious books. It’s a clear conflict of interest, and for the sake of Jesus, you have to go it alone without HarperCollins.

Even paid version isn't worth it. This is disappointing to have to write but perhaps more reviews like this will make the developers take notice that they need a major overhaul of the app. I have been very loyal to Bible gateway since I became a believer in Christ in 2010. It was the first app I used on a regular basis. Back then, apps were in their infant stage so it made sense that it would be have a lot of glitches. But it's 2023, and even free apps don't function on this level. I realized that perhaps I needed to just upgrade to the the plus version. For one, perhaps it would at least take the pop up ad out. It still isn't functioning on a level that I know you all can be at. Someone at the top needs to have a hard conversation or two. There's just no reason why there are still fundamental errors and mistakes with the app. It hardly refreshes on an automatic basis. The search engine always acts as if I made an error. It's just hard to navigate and the $5/month version is just not cutting it for what you pay for. Please look at the company keeping you at this level and look at other Bible apps that have far surpassed you all in quality. You guys are the standard in info. But the app to access is a major hindrance. Please find someone else to handle it. I say this truth in love.

Thank God for this app. I love this app I am visually impaired and it is very difficult for me to read the Bible giving that I can no longer read text I struggle with following Sunday service because I can't read the Bible when everybody else is reading it but with this app it is amazing I've been reading the Bible I actually started from Genesis and I'm able to sync it to my TV to listen to it loud enough I love this app thank God I hope I hope they make it better so one can get the verses because right now you're only able to get the book and the chapter I want to be able to see the verses or hear the verses so when their church wants us to go to for example Genesis chapter 1 verse 10 I won't have to start from Genesis chapter 1 verse one but I'll just go straight to Genesis chapter 1 verse 10 so fingers crossed and I'm hoping for eight to get even better so I can get the versus I for what it's worth this is the best audio Bible I have come across since I've been downloading series of ups for audio Bible

Latest Update Ruined This App. I have used this app quite enthusiastically for years. Not only was it my favorite Bible app, I rarely used another Bible app, because this one had such great features, and did everything I needed. With the latest update occurring a couple of months ago, this app is now totally useless to me. It now has several bugs it never had before (iPhone 12). The most frustrating bug is that it crashes every single time I open it. Not five, or six, or eight out of 10 times, but 10 out of 10 times. And most of the time, it crashes within 30 seconds of opening it. When it does stay on longer than that, other things happened, that never did before. It deleted several scriptures in my “Favorites” list, although they are still highlighted in the body of text itself. Often it will not go to a scripture that I select. It crashes almost every time I try to select something new from any menu. The “Search” feature is now horribly broken; when I type in anything in the search field, there is no way to close the keyboard and push a button to actually activate the search. The app has become literally useless! I never write reviews. At least this one is the first in several years. The only reason I’m doing so, is because I used to love this app. I hate having to give it up, but I have no choice! Please fix it!

Update to 63 broke other things. Hey that’s great that you updated your app about five days ago to version 63 to fix the audio player. But it broke a lot of other things. When I tap on the Bible button, it’s blank in the section you are supposed to see the book’s name. Just a little arrow is there, and it does nothing. I can’t choose a book of the Bible. Also, the font is too big and overrides on other font areas, making it hard to read. I tried to change the font size within the app, and it didn’t change anything. I also tried to change the font size on my phone, and it also did not affect it. It just remains too large and runs off the screen. There are other problems, but I’m sure if you guys look into it you’ll find them. I have an iPhone SE. I have used your app for many years, and it is my go to Bible App. I hope you can fix this problem, because it is not useable to read the Bible at this point. 😢

Used to be good but never works now. I’ve tried to get support on this app and the tell me the same things every time and the solutions never fix anything. It’s not just my phone, it also is my wife’s phone. Most translations do not have all the books available and some are duplicated where you select the passage. The ones that are there often have incomplete chapters. And lately, the one translation I can consistently get (NASB1995) won’t read audibly anymore. UPDATE: I’m very frustrated by the lack of information and response from tech support. It took this review to get any feedback. Thank you for finally responding. A quick email response when I respond to the tech’s email would be a very appropriate way to handle this and avoid bad reviews. UPDATE #2: Most of the functionality has been restored. I have been able to access multiple translations/versions successfully. Most of them now play audio, although NASB 1995 still isn’t working. I have upgraded my rating. Thank you for your continued diligence.

BIBLE GATEWAY. I have used this App every since I can remember (years). It’s gotten worse over time. Although I love this App-it crashes often making reading & looking up thing’s almost impossible at times ! I love the daily “Dashboard”, the ability to highlight & star important verses. I love we can read the version of the Bible we are most comfortable reading or even compare one version to another. I just wish it wouldn’t crash repeatedly & frequently! Sometimes it becomes so frustrating I just have to close the App. I have this on 3 of my devices & it crashes on all 3 devices. I don’t have this problem with any other App. Your daily reads -should you get to read them—often crash 4-6 times before allowing you to read it.

I really LOVE it!!!. For a long time I wished I could not only read the Bible but hear it when I don’t have time to read it and also wished I can hear it while asleep. That’s when I found BIBLE GATEWAY!!! For many years I have been able to listen to NIV Bible and ITS ALSO DRAMATIZED FOR ME so I can really understand and imagine what it was like living through the times! Every aspect of life and it’s challenges I face are all there to read/ listen to the stories of regular people who went through similar situations many times even worse situations but God brought them all out of it. I really love to listen to it as I sleep and when I wake up many of it is actually programmed into my brain , I can’t imagine not being able to hear it while I sleep it brings me peace. I really recommend this app for everyone especially to those who can’t read for whatever reason.

Finally Reading my Bible!. I’m 52 years old and I have always struggled with reading my Bible everyday. I’ve only ever had a KJV. One day I googled a verse on my phone for a note I was writing and I found Gateway. I downloaded the app and started using the reading plan and now I have no problem reading everyday and often several times a day. It was hard to carry my Bible with me, so I never did. Now, I can just open my phone anywhere. My hairdresser asked me one day what I was always reading while my hair dye was processing and it opened up a conversation to be able to witness. All the ladies in our church prayer group use it now and we all use the NIV chronological reading plan and our conversations are now always on the Bible as we discuss our daily reading. I am also able to use a commentary for the first time in my life and it has opened up depths of God’s Word for me. Thank you Gateway! Carolyn M.

Glitches starting to abound. This has been my favorite iPhone Bible app for years. This is starting to change. A few months ago glitches and bugs began appearing that simply should not exist on an app that is this prominent. In night mode the verse numbers have an annoying square around them. Not that big a deal, but annoying. I have turned off the red-letter feature that highlights Jesus’ words. For some reason, that comes on automatically, and the only way to turn it off is to click on the version and then cancel out of it - the red letters disappear for reasons as mysterious as why they appeared in the first place. Not a killer bug, but more annoying than the first glitch I mentioned. When changing books of the Bible, at times it just won’t switch from one book to the other until I close and restart the app. Now it is starting to get ridiculous. Today, I was in Genesis 1, moved to Acts 1, and when I scrolled down, what should have been Acts 2 was Genesis 12. What??? I have not yet found another app I like, and I desperately hope Bible Gateway will get its act together, but I have written them about it and was told they were aware of these problems, but after several months, these things still aren’t fixed. It is a shame. Two stars (but one of them is just for nostalgia)

Continued issues. I have used this app all the time for the past several years. However, when you started having ads, it has become continuously glitchy. For example, when I changed translations, it would change scriptures. It had never done that before. The glitches became gradually bigger, such as Psalm not showing chapters past 50. I would have to go to another book and then come back to Psalm for the chapter list to come up. Now, it’s past those smaller things. For the past few days, when I open up the app and press for Bible, nothing comes up. It’s literally a blank whit page. There is not a book listed at the top of the page, only a tiny arrow pointing down. When I push on that arrow nothing happens. I have to go into the side bar and go to history to pull up something, and then change books. Also, the history hasn’t been saving my latest readings for about a month. I have tried deleting and reinstalling. That worked for about a week, but then it has reverted. It’s weird.

App Doesn’t Work. I have always enjoyed both the desktop and app version of Bible Gateway. Unfortunately, for months the app has not worked. I sent a message to the company letting them know of my difficulties, and it took about 2 months for them to respond. The problem I had with the app is that it immediately closes and I cannot open it up. In the company’s response to me, they asked me to be patient as they were working on an update to correct the problem. They told me to download the update when it was available on my phone and it would fix the problem. I patiently waited until the update was released and updated the app. Still does not work and immediately closes when I try to open it. I have tried everything, including deleting the app and downloading again, but still does not work. I still use the desktop version, but have moved on to another Bible app on my phone as I have given up on any hope that the app will work again. It literally has been months and months with no fix. I am not a techie, but I would have thought it would have been fixed by now. Very disappointed because I used to love this app.

Great Ap Ruined By Annoying Update. This was the very first Bible/devotions app that I ever downloaded years ago, and in all that time, it has been one of my now three “go-to” apps upon waking every morning. However, the last update that I installed completely changed my experience as well as my opinion. Now, when I open the app, I am taken to a page that requires me to click two additional things to get to the devotionals, as opposed to before, when I opened the app, and the devotional was right there. But worst yet is that now, the second you open the dashboard to read the devotional, an annoying AD pops up before you can even read 3 words! I abhor this, and none of my other devotional apps have pop-ups that require me to click on them BEFORE I am allowed to read God’s Word! I do have one that has an ad pop-up once you go to *close* the app, but to have it pop-up before you’ll even allow me to read the scriptures is just tasteless in my opinion, and ruins my entire experience. I also see that the developers of this app don’t seem to be very interactive with people who leave reviews, but maybe, just maybe someone will see this and respond before I delete the app that I have loved for so many years.

Must delete and reinstall after update. Update: It seems that the most recent update caused an issue with the cache or something. The only way to clear the cache on iOS for an app is to delete it, and then reinstall. I have had to do this on another app that I use, too. Anyway, deleting and reinstalling solved my problem with having blank pages when trying to read the Bible. This has never been my main Bible app, but this resolved my issues. Earlier review: I had used this app occasionally when looking up different translations. I have other Bible apps that I use more, but I still use this one sometimes. This is the only app with the NRSVUE on it that I have. I wanted to compare a verse in the NRSVUE with other translations, and the app will not load any Scripture I try to search for. All I get is a blank page. I had problems with the app crashing before. Now it doesn’t crash, but it does nothing. It also takes forever for it to do anything when I try to tap something in the app. It is currently broken and unusable. Good thing I have other Bible apps on my device that are actually usable.

No longer using because of TPT removal. I had use this app for over a decade and it was very helpful and allowed me to look to different versions of the Bible. I like using different paraphrases and versions to see different perspectives from translation teams in people. The ESV and HCSB were my main resources, but also enjoyed the AMP, as well as the paraphrases (Message, TPT). About a month ago in February 2022 I tried to look up a verse in TPT, and it was no longer available. I reached out to support letting them know it was missing, hoping it was just a technical glitch. I reached out several other times with no response. It is my assumption this app has been “influenced“ by the movement to expunge TPT as a resource to followers of Jesus. It saddens my heart, because we are supposed to be united, and not divided. If people took time to understand the difference between a paraphrase, and a literal translation or thought for thought translation, I believe TPT would still be a resource available to me. I have now downloaded YouVersin, and will use that resource. Again, very saddened by the impact of the religious-mindset on this platform which simply cannot operate in Grace……no one is going to lose their relationship with God because they read TPT!

Great app that broke on the recent update. Used this app for my daily Bible reading. Over several years has been amazing. I should’ve given it a rating earlier which would’ve been five stars. Unfortunately in this review I have to downgrade considerably only because a recent upgrade changed the UX and broke the ability to use audio with reading along. To be precise, I use NIV with Max McLean narrating. When I open the app and open the Bible, it used to open on the page in the audio where I left off before. Now it defaults to dramatized audio and randomly the first chapter of whatever book I was in. Then when I click on Max McLean it doesn’t load or freezes. On reboot, it resets to dramatized again. It is a very random error, and I get different results every time I open the app. It rarely works now for the way I used it for in the past. iPad Pro 12.9 inch, iOS 15.6, NL0H2LL/A, 1st gen.

Updates are not working. No lie, every time you guys give an update for bug fixes, it gets worse. 🤦‍♀️. I started having problems about a year or so ago after using for years. For years, this was the best app of its kind! I’m so sorry to see all the problems that have come with updates. The app was finally working again for months, and now with this latest “update” things are once again bad. The app randomly closes constantly. All my previously highlighted verses are gone. When I try to re-highlight them, the app just closes. Also, for months, when I highlighted a verse in one version, it automatically highlighted to all. I loved this feature! I often switched between several versions that I like, and this was so helpful. Now with this latest “update”, that no longer happens. I wish I could go back in time before all the so called “updates.” It really saddens me that something that was once so great has been ruined.

Please make one change!. One of the only drawbacks to this app is that when selecting a chapter from a book of the Bible, the "scroll" option is time-consuming and not as efficient as other apps that just have a menu with the numbers in a square. It really becomes an issue with the Bible, because it's such a large volume with so many chapters and so many versus within many of the chapters (Try looking up Psalm 119:105...) It makes me want to go to my other apps to look up a verse. Otherwise I love all the depth of versions available, listening options, books available, etc Everything else is great, but the one thing I want use this app for often is to look for a particular verse, so I experience the scrolling issue almost daily. Seems to me that this would be an easy change and make a Scripture search much less time consuming. Thanks for listening!

Crashing. I had been using the website and decided to get the app. While I prefer physical Bible it was getting hard to carry my heavy Bible with commentary my husbands and our notebooks and our toddler so I decided to try the app and recommended it to my husband. But one day I tried to open the app and search for a passage in class and it just kept crashing over and over so I was forced back to google and using a website. Thankful I had WiFi available as the cellular signal was not strong. Tried a few more times and would get frustrated that I had to manually search scroll to find a book or the Bible. I could not figure out how to get the app to search for the book by typing the book name. If your familiar with the order of the Bible books it’s no problem but if I have to scroll to find the book that takes too much time. But I gave it another try and today went to do my Bible study and the app kept crashing over and over. I would click on a button and bam app crashes. Tried to delete app reinstall same thing happened so for now I will be deleting the app and finding a new one.

Gone way downhill; uninstalled. Sadly this app has gotten progressively worse over the past several years. Full screen ads in a holy book is pretty distasteful. If they need funding they should partner with some mega church. The audio book feature no longer works properly. The content jumps awkwardly when scrolling. The text’s styling is less readable than it once was. Scripture is so rich and there are so many amazing possibilities for an app with the resources that BG clearly has licensed. How could their execution be (have fallen) this far? As a veteran software developer myself, I suspect they were pitched the idea to rebuild the app from scratch and that some dev team made promises they weren’t able to keep. The app from five years ago, if left untouched and never updated again, would be a superior experience to the current version. It’s a pity that BibleGateway has fallen so far, but thankfully there are much better Bible apps out there these days.

Doesn’t perform well at all!. I’m giving it three stars because it doesn’t seem fair to give it less when I’ve used it for so many years without any problems at all. But with the latest update it has gone haywire! I mostly listen to the audio while reading the words on a different device. The audio Bible ALWAYS goes back to Gen 1:1 and back to dramatization. Then when you choose your desired book and chapter, it reads from Gen 1:1. Only after you advance or go backwards with the arrows does it get on track… sometimes. I’ve been checking almost daily to see if there is another update to fix this issue. Please do so ASAP! I will change my rating then. I love this app. Updated: I just deleted this app. I’m so frustrated with its performance. I’m probably gonna reinstall it hoping that will fix the issue. This was by far my favorite Bible app. I’ve just changed my rating from three to two stars.

App broken? UPDATED. Am I the only one having this issue? The app doesn’t work anymore and hasn’t worked for about four days now. I’ve been using this app every day for about four years with no problem, but when I went to open it up a few days ago, it won’t display anything. It shows the Audio page and the Dashboard, but that’s it. Update: I am reducing my review to one star. After reading other reviews, I’ve discovered that I’m not the only one who has had issues with the app after update 63. Ironically, an update following the update that broke the app was with the main focus on “Bible Gateway Plus”. I’m not sure if this is merely coincidental, but considering that many users are complaining that the developers behind Bible Gateway do not ever respond to any of their complaints or questions even with direct contact through email or other methods, I find this turn of events to be very disappointing. If anyone has any recommendations for other reliable Bible apps, please include it in your reviews because I don’t to support the developers after how they have treated their users.

Going down hill. I have used the website for years. So getting the app was a natural choice. However, it’s always been buggy and not very user friendly. There are many redundancies in navigation. You have to hit 2-3 buttons to do what a better app could do in one. The cut and paste feature is hard to figure out, and for awhile it was omitting words and spaces from the paste. So you may accidentally misquote scripture. They told me they were working on the bug, and may have fixed it by now. I don’t know for sure, I’ve just avoided using the feature lately for obvious reasons. The key word search doesn’t seem to be all inclusive either. When looking for the location of specific verses, and you are using the right words, it doesn’t always give me what I’m specifically looking for. Forcing me to use other apps that work first time with the same words and translation. Also, they have resorted to using ads, while I don’t have a problem with that in general, they could be a bit more choosy about them. Many seem out of place on a so-called sacred site. While I will continue to use the website on my desktop, I am done using the app for now.

Used to be a great app…. I’ve used Bible gateway for years, but with the updates recently, the app is terrible and not at all user friendly. Constantly freezes and crashes. I’ve always liked it for the audio feature, but now when I try to go from one book to another, the audio will freeze up and stop working. I have to close out of the app completely and go back in, select the book and chapter I was in, select the audio settings, etc… super frustrating. Furthermore, a user should be able to start playing the audio from the book they are viewing, but that is not the case. you have to instead go to the menu, go down to the audio option then find the book and chapter you are in, choose the reader, then go back up into the book that you were in and hit play from there. Like I said, not user friendly. I went into the app store this morning to find a different Bible app, but wanted to provide feedback before leaving this one behind. I’ve seen so many reviews stating the recent problems; I’m surprised they haven’t done anything to fix these bugs.

Great Content, Buggy Audio Bible. This is one of the first apps I ever downloaded and I have recommended it to many people, including foreign-language speakers. I use the audio Bible often and am grateful they have NIVUK with David Suchet. I prefer the NKJV, but Simon Bubb is so monotonous he sounds like AI. This has nothing to do with Bible Gateway, but I wish NKJV had picked another British reader. Around mid-2022 I noticed some bugs in the audio Bible. It would sometimes skip chapters or restart a book instead of continuing to the next book. And weirdest of all, it had a chapter called 1 Thessalonians 9!!! I contacted BG and they fixed the bugs. But it’s January 2023 and the bugs are back. I was listening to Ephesians and it went straight from chapter 5 to Philippians 1. (I am using the latest version iPhone.) I don’t know if this is happening with every version or only with NIVUK, but I request BG to have this big fixed.

Bible App Not Working. I have used this Bible app since 2020. I loved using it as I could highlight verses and save notes to those specific verses. Now when I open the app, I can’t open the Bible without the app shutting down. If I try to open one of my saved verses in the notes with the thoughts that I wrote down, it shuts down. Sadly, I am going to have to delete this app because it is not working at all. This makes me very sad because I made several notes since 2020 verses and so I am completely losing any thoughts and notes that I had. I also just want to add that it was very disheartening to me when you removed the passion version of the Bible. Buying into all of the hype that people were saying about the passion Bible. I personally have read the passion Bible side-by-side to the AMP, the NKJV, the NIV, and other Bibles, and did not have an issue with it. It was a beautifully written Bible. The Bible I do have a problem with is the Message Bible as I fill it lightly covers the subjects and doesn’t give the depth of God’s word. Maybe you could reconsider the Passion. I hope you fix whatever is wrong, and are paying attention to the many are complaining about the problems of this app.

Notes needs help. Bible Gateway is one of my study staples...I’ve used it for years. However...I’ve gotten into deeper study of the Word, and have started using the Notes feature of the app. May I suggest a couple improvements that would improve its value tremendously. First of all, the Notes icon that appears at the beginning of a verse when a Note is made should pop-up a window with that particular Note. As it is, it takes you away from your place in the Scripture to a listing of the Notes made that you must scroll through to find the particular Note you want. Then you must navigate back to the Scripture you were reading. Awkward and time consuming. Second, there is a way to print each Note separately; however, there should be a way to print a list and/or range of Notes so they can be kept hard copy with other study materials. Third, currently there is only one color available for highlighting. It would be very helpful to have a number of colors so as to designate different Bible studies. Fourth, have a Notes icon at the beginning of the verse for each Note made regarding that particular verse. In this way you would be able to see all the Notes made for a verse at different times. Thank you. Hope you will see the benefit of each of these suggestions and work them into the next update.

No longer acceptable. I once used the YouVersion Bible, but I decided I should not support an app that supported devotionals of false teachers (as they had many) and it was a distraction from reading God’s word. So I searched until I landed on Bible Gateway. I liked the interface. Then they updated it and each time for the worse. Today I resolve to find something else. The app is going down hill. As other users have commented, the ads are terribly distracting. It’s not some bar at the bottom, it takes over the screen. You try to read the Bible, which should be a time of quiet prayer, personal reflection, and Bible study to spend time with the Lord, and instead you get to contend with the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life. This was a deal breaker for me. The feature that allowed you to send verses of scripture no longer works accurately. It removes spaces, capitalizes letters that should not be, no longer includes the verse being sent, and night mode is glitchy with the verse numbers still having a white background. I’m not paying a monthly fee to drop ads. I would pay one time, but there are too many free versions to deal with the distracting ads.

This is a GREAT app But. I love this app A LOT actually but something went wrong with it recently and now I can’t use it. So I had to uninstall it 😔 I loved the fact that I could just put in the search bar just one word in a verse and it pulls up all the verses with that one word in it ANd it tells me how many verses has that word in it also. It give the whole Bible in over 25 different versions I can switch when I wanted I can have it in a diff language it also gives verse of the day and saved all my favorite verses in one area I got to highlight my favorite verses AND share them without it being sent all boggled where ppl had to download the app just to see it. SO I did really love the app BUT now it started to mess up now when I went to certain passages it would bring it up in the search but wouldn’t actually bring it up in the Bible part I couldn’t go to a certain book in the Bible anymore either. So I feel like I just lost all my data I was saving in all that I was studying in the app now! Ugh that’s SO frustrating too. But please fix maybe I’ll try it again later.

Life CHANGING💗💗. I love this app so much and it has allowed me to read the Bible more often and seek the Lord. I use my headphones and use the "dramatized" version on the audio bible and follow along on the regular Bible reading and I understand it so much more. I started to use the reading plan and using the audio to complete it and it's great because you can get reminders everyday reminding you to read. I plan on writing about what I know from the scriptures in my prayer journal. The only thing is that the reading plans don't have an option where you read Genesis to Revelation which I would prefer but the app is still amazing and I love it and I encourage you to get it to get you closer to Christ with scripture :) ps I highly recommend the NIV version of the Bible because other ones like the KJV are hard to understand in my opinion and the NIV is really easy to read and understand for a 12 year old like me.

Bugs plagues from Egypt. Update: Well…. Went from bad to worse. 💀 Now its to the point that when I click the app to open it, it will just kick me back to Homescreen. Deleting the app and reinstalling did nothing, either. Went from 3-Stars to 1-Star. Pls fix ASAP. As the title suggests, there’s one too many bugs within the app when 1-2 years ago the app ran way smoother. Nowadays, anytime I open the app and want to simply go to the Word and just do some reading, it will start to take me there but will crash and send me back to the Home Screen of my phone. Similarly, when I want to highlight or bookmark a verse or want to go to a specific book, chapter, verse, same deal; start to do it’s designed duty and then kicks me back to the phone’s Home Screen. I used to really love this app and the convenience of it, but now it’s gotten out of hand the amount of times I have to restart the app just to get *some* kind of basic functionality out of it. 3 stars - may go lower or higher, depending on if it’s fixable or not.

Quality has declined, unfortunately. This was my favorite app, but, unfortunately, probably due to updates to make it compatible with iOS updates, it no longer performs at the previous level. The Search function is severely changed- previously, it would bring up all possible uses of the word you’re searching, but now it seems to stop at 50. I’ve had to return to using the actual Biblegateway site, as the app is becoming useless unless I just want to use it just to read and I’ve also found a flaw in reading. I was in Psalms and was reading through and tried to scroll to Psalm 139 from Psalm 8, but the furthest it would show was 50. This is not the first experience I’ve had like that. Oh, well. It was good while it lasted. It may be an iOS issue, but I’ll need to uninstall or just move on. What I liked about this app in the past was that I could do everything I needed in it (other than search for Hebrew/Greek word origin, which was fine), but now I have to return to using several apps to accomplish what I need. Hopefully, the issues will be resolved; I’ll check back another time.

3 chances but still disappointing. This is my third time in 10 years to give Bible Gateway a chance to overcome multiple problems and I see the same problems if inconsistent and undependable performance. The lack of progress is disconcerting. I had my first experience only via computer and it was not good. Many bugs. I asked for support but didn’t get any response until over a week later. Even so it was frustrating. There was little attempt to make the technical corrections and eventually they just offered to give me my money back. I had to be honest with them, admitting that I was disappointed by fellow Christians who were not diligent businessmen. I felt embarrassed when I saw that Apple reported they have not gotten any response for their requests to provide privacy practice details. I also see there has been no version update since a year ago. That’s not a good sign. You can see for yourself The best, most responsive developers are updating their widely used apps at least once a week, average 2-4 weeks. The top Gun developers are updating every few DAYS In response to user feedback on various bugs. We Christians are held by our Lord to much higher standards of stewardship.

Sad of the Changes. I write this review with a sad heart. I understand that the designers of Bible Gateway had to make a decision in the way of funding ; the Bible Gateway app is almost unusable. I am not quick to give a review and honestly I rarely give them at all. The ads in the app do not function correctly they take over the app and do not allow one to exit them even after watching the entire ad and giving the ad another 10 seconds or so as “x” appears on the screen. The “x” does nothing. I have used this app for many years and have told many to use it as it was one of the best of its type. Sorry but is is not what it used to be and again, I understand the need for funding but when the very thing you are trying to support takes over it becomes something entirely different.

Love the extra resources, wish the search was not scroll. I have always used Bible gateway when I didn't want the NIV translation I love the fact there are so many different translations available to me as I prefer the NLT or the NIVUK. I love the resources like the devotionals, reading plans and reminders all set in one place in the app that way I don't have to set an alarm in my calendar or I have separate notes on my phone and it's all there in the Bible app. I absolutely love how I can search for a verse by knowing the key words and it pops up in the search. I only wish when I search directly for a chapter and verse that I could input the numbers instead of scrolling because it is time consuming. Granted sometimes it's good to know the context of the verse especially in the Old testament but not always necessary in the New Testament.

Suddenly glitchy. I was using BibleGateway for a couple years, and enjoyed it thoroughly for its daily Bible reading and reminders. then sometime in the last month, not sure if it was due to iPhone iOS update or the app itself, but when getting the daily reminder, I would click on it, and the font was small, and it needed to be reset in order to continue with the reading. Prior, you would just click on the reminder, and click on reading plan, and you were on your way. so, I tried deleting the app, re-adding it, and the app was asking for payment information, even though it should’ve been free. It attempted to bill me about $97, and I don’t know if it’s just my phone, or a glitch in the system. It’s just not running like it used to! I hope it can be fixed, cause there’s no other Bible reading app that’s quite as user-friendly that I’ve found.

Bible App. ❤️ this. I use few apps with any regularity. This one has multiple points of value though. It allows me to save my aging eyes 😇 and employ my listening skills, instead. It is able to continue playing while I multitask, laying the phone down to do other things. I can go back over passages again & again for better understanding, it allows several options for speaking tones, incorporates mellow background music, and soothing delivery. I can go into my phone to other areas while it continues, and switch off for visual text, instead. Just to name a few of it’s attributes. I can’t do better then 5 stars here, but I truly would if I could. It’s that worthy to me. 🙏🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏🏽

I used to love this app. Now I’ll have to cancel subscription and find another. Maybe I’m missing something. Help me out here with the following: Under, for example,“Notes” it shows “18:31()”. What book…Psalm, Mark, Revelation?? And what’s the “()”? In Notes, when I hit 18:31() it should take me to the book and chapter for 18:31. Instead it takes me to Mark, chapter 10, literally in between verse 30 and 31. I used to be able to go to Isaiah 10:31, go to my note for Luke 12:15, see what I wrote, hit the passage that should take me to Luke, and read it. Instead it takes me back to Isaiah 10:1. I have to scroll down and find Luke-12-15. When I create a note it doesn’t leave the little box indicating I made a note for the verse. When I pick a book, chapter and verse (Act 10:21) it always takes me to Act 10:1, no matter what verse I want (not that it matters since the app’s going to take me wherever it feels like). When I use the parallel option, the second option shows up in the smallest font size. When I try a few fixes the app quits. The app quits a lot now. I depend on this app because it was so easy to use. Now, it’s almost useless. After the last update and the problems started I logged off/on, reset to default, went to FAQ (after emailing about a different question before the update…I still haven’t heard from you) and spent more time than I should have to. But like I said, I really hope I’m missing something, and that you can respond to this review.

Still doesn’t work. Came back hoping. Went to select reading plan. Just keeps saying their are no listings on that date. Really? Then when I just chose to read would not let me highlight or bookmark. I completely reloaded this. And none of my previous problems/complaints are fixed. You still have to start over EVERY TIME on audio on your preferences and where you start reading daily. This ap is crap. What are you actually fixing. I’m not sure how the over all rating stays over four stars unless you are erasing bad reviews(I couldn’t find my old review when I came back so it’s been deleted somehow). Why do you even leave this ap up. Reading thru reviews every time you make promises to people to fix things and never fix. Hire someone who knows what they are doing or actually cares. Sad that such an awesome ap has gone down so far quality wise and chosen to stay there. Sign of the times. The world falling apart so quickly. You’d think you’d be able to at least “trust” a Bible ap in the “excellence” department. Should be setting standards but clearly don’t care. I’m glad I don’t pay for this app anymore.

APP devolving. Before it would’ve been five stars. Now, I have the latest update, and it really ruined the prior version that I was using. Now, you open the app and the search box takes you always to Genesis 1:1. Before it took you back to the chapter and verse that you last looked at, studied or read. Now you do a search to open a certain book, chapter and verse and it open takes you to verse one of that chapter when before you could end up at verse 34, which is where you wanted to be. Before in the box, it appears for you to choose the book, chapter and verse at the bottom in blue. It showed where you were exactly going; it flashed; then you touched it and went exactly there. Now the history area does not have the last chapter and verse you went to it just has that chapter with verse one. That is not very useful when you’re going back-and-forth in the Bible during a study. Before it kept a complete list by chapter and verse. You could highlighter verse, and it would add it to your history which was very helpful but now it doesn’t.

Need improvement. This would be a great app if it worked. I used it every single day during the day and night for several years. I endured some of the issues for a long time because I almost got used to the issues. Some of the bugs or issues were for example; every time I went to the dashboard it turned white and empty. My work around was to go to settings and toggle on and off the night view option. Then the second issue every time I went to do my reading plan the fonts were extra small by default. Then I had to go to the settings again and increase the fonts. I deleted and reinstalled this app several times but these issues continued. Then I gave up and deleted the app and got another app without these issues. I missed some of the easy features but I got tired of waiting for the developer to fix the bugs.

Used for years and loved….no more!!. Bible Gateway app has been my favorite over the popular You Version for years. I have been trying to bear with it for the last many months, but just deleted today because I’m wanting and needing to study and do my daily scripture writing but can’t. It opens….and this is pretty much a common regular and multiple back to back occurrence even in one sitting, over the last several months…it opens as normal with the verse of the day, then in seconds an ad pops up, which is expected because I use the free version of the app….however, once I view the ad, and I choose to close it rather than get it or purchase, the ad will close and go back to the verse of the day screen. From there I go to search for the book, chapter and verse I want to read and study, and select it, but instead of pulling it up, the app closes. Some days I have more patience to keep trying and eventually it will stop closing in the described manner, and I actually get to read in the location I selected in the app. But today…I’m done!! After it has closed on me a number of times and I’ve still not gotten to do my daily reading and journal writing of the passage that I was trying to select, my time and my patience with the app has run out. I’ve deleted and going to find another. This one needs some fixes or if that’s their means they use to get you to want to purchase the ad free version of the app….forget it! Don’t want it!!!

The new version has issues. I would have given the previous version 5 stars, but this latest version is not as easy to navigate. I HATE the new pop-up navigation banner in the reading pane. It used to be a stable header, but now it's just a pop-up, which doesn't work as well as the old fixed banner. When you're in the reading pane, if you scroll up or down too far the pop up navigation banner disappears and won't come back so you can't navigate anywhere else in the app or pull up the audio. Also, the old navigation banner automatically adjusted to where you were if you scrolled to a new chapter. But you have to manually change the location in the new banner if you want the reading pane to open up on the new chapter the next time you use the app. I often wind up having to completely close the app and reopen it to manually select my next chapter or to get to other areas of the app.

Go back to version 59!!!. Please take this app back to version 59! Ever since version 60 came out there has been nothing but bugs. I understand that you have to make money to keep things going, so I don’t mind having the advertisements. But, everything seems to be wonky now. Some verses and even sometimes whole chapters are missing. In dark mode, chapter numbers and verse numbers are highlighted in boxes which makes them harder to see. Also, every time I open the app it reverts back to Genesis, chapter 1 instead of where I left off and that’s kind of annoying. I really used to enjoy using this app to look up scriptures on the fly, now I’m considering switching to a new app. I really do hope and pray that you fix whatever is broken soon. I’m not a fan of the fact that the rating keeps falling when it is the holy Bible and it’s even worse that I’m contributing to that rating that keeps falling! Hopefully, soon enough I can change this rating to be a five star. May God bless you and help you find and fix whatever it is that’s making the app act the way that it is. :-)

Keeps crashing. So sorry to have to post this here. My app keeps crashing on Bible view. It is the updated version. Already contacted support about this and have since removed and downloaded the app with no change. Something is not right with the app, and I’m sure it it will be figured out soon

Essential app for everyone. One of the best ways to engage in God’s word in this digital age. This is your sword & shield to fight your adversary the devil. You will benefit from God’s word on your phone or tablet, & if you are feeling lazy the app will read to you. Like all good things in life everything on the app is totally free. The only thing that needs to be improved is the option for night time mode & easier copy/paste options, but I hope the developers read this, look into it & eventually improve it. But I personally recommend this app!

Easy to use and listen to.. I have to complement the reader, a most beautiful reader whom I recognised from our book club book The Goldfinch. This gentleman is very very easy to listen to and He won't put you to sleep as his voice is engaging and captivating to its subject matter. It's how I would imagine Jesus tone (without the educated New York accent). The reader makes the book interesting in my opinion, so enjoy this Great book because I can't wait to get to my daily devotions as I read and listen (no distractions). I haven't used All the app features, but I bet it's worth 5 stars.

Love it. I love being able to sync my account to multiple devices but sometimes when I load up one of my favourited verses it doesn't show the star or highlight. Also, the highlighted verses can't be searched on the app. You can only see everything that you have highlighted on the website version.

BUGS. This new version is not as user friendly. When in the bible, and wanting to navigate to a new book/verse/chapter, you can only scroll through to 50 chapters in Psalms! Where are the rest of them? So then you have to go back to the search function to find any chapters after 50. When changing between versions in the top right hand corner, it doesn't always change the text, only the version button. The print size keeps reverting to the smallest size! I have deleted and reinstalled the app twice. I will try once more. I hate the ads!! I love that highlighted passages are highlighted across all versions. This was something that I wished for in the old version. I have several bible apps on my phone but Bible Gateway has always been my favourite. I use the app and the website regularly. I hope these little glitches can be fixed soon!

Used to be great. I’ve used this app for years. Has been my preferred Bible app. Recently, it won’t work for me at all. It glitches and shuts down. Works well enough for me to get ads, but not to read the Bible. Won’t bother trying with this app much longer

Disappointed. Disappointed with this update. I send out a daily Bible verse to friends. I use to copy the verse to my message. Now it adds the URL. I don’t want the URL. Now I have to edit to get it the way I want it. This is extra work. I will be considering whether I continue to use Bible Gateway for this purpose.

Technical Issue. Hi, so I’m having an issue with the bible reading plan. When I go on to the daily reading plan it keeps telling me that there is no reading for today, it’s consistent and I will not allow me to continue, I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail which is a shame as this is a great app. Also not sure if you are aware but I use to copy and paste scriptures to Facebook through gateway bible on a browser, I can no longer do this as Facebook has marked you as offensive 😳

Suggestion. Could you add an option to have the text down the centre rather than from one end of the screen to the other end? Just like in the Bible app, the most popular on the App Store.

Be careful. Not the same after last update. Probably hacked, always trying to steal information and lots of advertising. It used to be the best bible app.

History. I have really appreciated this app. Been able to compare different translations quickly, and also the audio feature. But in recent times the history feature of this app is not working, and it is really useful when it did work

Still waiting for bookmark feature.. 3 years after my 1st review, I’m still waiting for you to add a bookmark feature. Otherwise it’s a great app.

Missing audio NKJV translation. Why has the New King James Version disappeared from the audio? This is one of the most accurate versions translations and I will be looking elsewhere for an alternative app

Re: Bible not opening after new update. The actual Bible won’t open on iPhone after the new update!!

Lately shuts down for adds. Lately the app suddenly shuts down a lot!!!! for an add to come on while you are reading the Bible. It’s really disruptive and you have to then go back in and find the scriptures you were reading again. I can’t use the app in church for that reason as you think you found your scripture and then everything shuts down in front of your eyes. It never used to do this. It really spoils your reading experience and wastes a lot of time. This used to be the best Bible app and still is as far as comprehensive features go, but the problem with the app shutting down is so significant that I may have to delete it. Also, sometimes when you scroll to find your scripture it isn’t there and looks like the book ends earlier. Please fix this

Review. Very useful! Would be even better if it were available off-line

Gateway gets me there. Easy to use. Great features in iOS. Other great features in OSX. Huge range of resources. Indispensable just about. Thank you!

Useless. I used to enjoy searching BG for certain verses - now it is impossible. Perhaps I need some tuition but it used to be so easy and now if I try to search for Revelations it tells me that no books were found! Am I missing some subtlety?

Search engine. I don’t like your search engine. I have been using you version often I like how there’s works better. I do not need to select where I want to search if I knew that I often wouldn’t need to search at all. I also wish it would search all bible versions as I read many and may not have the wording correct as it is written in the version I am in when searching. Love the app otherwise. Thank you God bless

Was a great Bible app but now. The app crashes constantly & has done now for over 12months, it’s unusable. Ads interrupt bible reading & when I select a book to read the app crashes. This once great app has been rendered useless.

Finally started using the app -Fantastic. Hi, really impressed. Got a great range of version, languages. It also includes audio readers. It also allows you to see two bibles or two languages simultaneously. Still to discover more. Great work team. Ps. It would be great if we could scroll the background text, whilst the audio reader is on so we can follow all the way. Many thanks, Andrew

Excellent app!. This excellent app makes bible study easy, with many versions, and access to a wide range of study resources. It is also accessible with VoiceOver.

Best Bible App !!!. I love this app, as I learn how to navigate it I realise how powerful this app is and will be an incredible blessing to anyone who seeks truth about our wonderful God. I thank the creators of this app from my heart, this app was a free download but it’s worth is beyond anything I can afford Blessings to those involved in this app Mark.

Recent upgrade issues. Hey guys, so I’ve used this app for years & enjoyed it, me and my children find the reader, George’s voice and reading style very easy to listen to. But recently advertising has been added and there’s so many glitches, only one of the voice overs is working and it’s the dramatised one and the last couple of days I can even open the Bible! Please fix these issues, we love this app! And it’s only happening on the app for apple. The one on my laptop is fine.

The Notes Function. Some feedback: Notes function is good however when the key pad comes up you cannot get to the bottom part of your notes. Hopefully you can fix this.

Update. Unfortunately since a major update the App has become impossible to use. I used to access it all the time. I loved being able to check the different Bible versions. Now I can’t even get into the App. Rarely can I access the information I want. I hope the creators fix these major problems soon and make Bible Gateway the great App it used to be again.

Problems with subscription. An otherwise great app, but when I subscribe to the full content, it won’t load any of it and continually says that there is an internet connection error. Thankfully I have a 30 free trial period. I will have to cancel the subscription if that content is not accessible. I assume a bug fix is required.

Great resources rendered useless with constant app crashing. Update August 2023 I haven’t been able to access this app for month as it crashes immediately. My subscription to the commentaries is wasted money. I even deleted the app and downloaded it again to ensure the latest version and it still crashes. Please Zondervan, could I get a refund on my subscription? ………………………………… Overall, an excellent resource that mostly works well but with fine tuning could be even better. The breadth of resources is fantastic and I am able to delve much deeper into the meaning of the Bible with the comparison version functions plus all of the Bible dictionaries and guides. I would love a version to be available that is in English but with the original Greek or Hebrew words in brackets so that when I go to the resources I know which original language word to search for and find the intended meaning. I have searched every English version and cannot find what I’m looking for. When I am reading a passage of the Bible, click on it and then go into the resources section to look at the dictionary of Bible themes, I can’t access the other links listed down the bottom of the listing. They are like dead links, promising much but not delivering. Also, when I go into the resources section of the app and access the dictionary of Bible themes, there is no search function or A-Z quick list so that I may efficiently search for what I am looking for. I have to scroll through many times to find what I’m looking for and do not want to get RSI from this. This is a problem not just with the dictionary of Bible themes but with other resources.

Unstable App. The app seems to have become very unstable and I can barely go 5 mins without bit crashing back to the Home Screen Pop up adds have been added to what was previously a free and very useful app. Recommend people find a different app for their Bible reading

Great Ap with a few suggestions. I am enjoying using this ap each day. I would like to add a few suggestions. Firstly can we have a second default translation too. I love the Amplified but alongside a modern translation eg The Passion. Also can we have the option to change the font style to an easier to read option rather than just a font size. Overall though great ap.

Won’t open!!. I’ve been using this app for years however since last update it crashes and won’t open as soon as I tap on the icon to open it. I’m so disappointed as it’s one of the best Bible apps. Please fix !!!

Constantly shutting down. Am now only able to use for 20 seconds on a lucky day before the app shuts down - seems to have coincided with recent addition of overt advertising - not a patch on the old app, don’t waste your time purchasing, retire it already..

Awesome. Just as Gods word, this is a great app that has all the settings needed and has all different versions e.g NIV

Great. Pretty good, but you can’t copy or select

Ads Too Intrusive. This is a great app but unfortunately the advertisements have become more intrusive and deceptively difficult to close. Recently some ads have become almost impossible to navigate away from and this has made me think twice about the value of this app.

Problems with new update. Had been using this app with no issues for many years, but since the new update, it often doesn’t even open properly, just gives me a white screen. When it does open (after uninstalling and re installing) it’s clunky, hard to navigate, freezes, doesn’t save the last reading place. Really gone down hill. Unfortunately I will be looking for another Bible app to use unless these issues get fixed quickly.

Keeps shutting down. It used to be the best app but since the update it has been nothing but frustrating. I cant open it because It keeps shutting down and the ads are nothing better. please fix it.

Great app. However.... Amazing resource but please give us the option to pay a small one time payment to remove ads.

Lack of translations.. Significant lack of written & audio translations in any given language especially English (apparently ‘the world language’), particularly those approved by Catholic Bishops’ Conferences for liturgical use. The 2019 Revised New Jerusalem Bible Study Edition is just one translation I highly recommend adding.

Updated version of app is glitchy!. I used to love this app, but since the update, adds pop up in the middle of readings which is very frustrating. Listening to audio of George W Sarris is one of my favourite ways to absorb the Bible, but the audio Bible option shuts itself down now or has errors when trying to change from one book of the Bible to the next, and sometimes just won’t work at all. The app no longer remembers where you were last reading/listening from and the reader settings keep resetting on their own. I end up closing the whole app down, only for it to repeat the same issues later on reopening. Please fix the bugs and give us a new update. In its current state, I wouldn’t recommend this app anymore.

A great bible app!. a good deal of resources available through the app

No longer opens :-(. The app longer opens on my iPhone 14. Just get a blank white screen. Was good beforehand

Disappointed. Used to be my favourite Bible app but I’m moving to another one now because you have now included ads and I can’t read my Bible in peace. Very glitchy now too on my iPhone 13 pro max since the new update.

Crappy Ads at the bottom of the screen for gambling. Great app. Pity about the ads pushing gambling at the bottom.

You need this. Read, listen, study and know your Lord. Awesome app.

Ads dor Bible reading?. Never had ads before. Why ads popping out now?

Very useful app. It’ used to be great app but after the last couple updates it has gone backwards. I used to switch between languages and Bible versions with no issues. Also used to copy veres from the app with no problems but not anymore. I have deleted the app and installed it back with no improvements so I’ll delete it permanently for some time, I’ll try in a few months.

EATING THE WORD. Wow I have read the Bible more than once. Some books more than twenty times! I tried several times before to no avail. I can read THE WORD anywhere, never been bored again. The Audio is my company on my hourly walks. So excited understanding the Word. Now I can easily connect events from both The Old and New Testaments! The WORD IS ALIVE! I tell my children we should read The Bible like we would a book, ready to answer questions from any passage otherwise we cannot pass the exam!

Very useful app. I'm finding this app great for my personal Bible Study. I have my reading plan, am sent a reminder every morning, and use the commentaries for added information. But what I miss is not being able to highlight text for future recognition. Also a copy and paste function would enable text to be added to the notes which I am also using as a journal.

The Beginners Bible. I was wanting to purchase some more stories but there was no information as to what you would get in the smaller pack. Please let me know

Passion Translation. All of a sudden the passion translation disappeared… I don’t think I will keep the app. Just really concerned with that kind of censorship?!

Great but one fault. When I close the app to reference another, when I return I lose my place. Please fix.

Crashing. Still crashing, have the latest version

Used to be good app. Can never sign in as it says wrong username & password. Hate the ads, please get rid of them.

Was good, then came the ads. There’s nothing like sitting down in a quiet space in the morning with a cup of coffee and settling in to read God’s word… and instead be bombarded by full-page advertising. I don’t mind an ad here or there, but full-page, distracting ads? In a Bible app, really? I realize you’ve got to pay for it somehow but yikes.

Commercial. Now Bible gateway joins with other gaming apps and YouTube to force you to watch some advertisements before you can access what you are looking for. I am wondering if one day will the churches do the same. Before your sermon the pastor read, “we would like to use thirty seconds to thank our sponsor, blah blah blah”. Man, the internet is making people into jokes, but I didn’t know how fast and hilarious this would become.

Great app. Very a great app but if it had a search page or an easy way to find verses or topics. Now every time I open is crashing

Why the change to the audio player. We use this every day and want a basic audio reader. Why is the only option now to have it dramatized. Very distracting when you just want spend time in Gods word. Time to look for another app. Please change it back or give options

I used to love this app!. Something has gone wonky with the Bible Gateway app. Suddenly it started defaulting to audio and when I tried to go back to the reading page, the page would not load! I deleted it from my phone for a few days, opened it again today and immediately have the not loading problem! I sure hope HarperCollins gets it fixed soon!!

It keeps on crashing at launch!. This update has almost crippled the app. Now when I search the whole bible, if there are many results, the end of the list is trauncated. Sometimes the last results are from Nehemiah, other times the same search starts at Nehemiah and ends with Daniel. If I tap on a search result, I’m led to the beginning of the chapter, not to the verse itself. Then if I want to get back to search results, tapping search again in the hamburger menu doesn’t display the search results like before.

Content great - ads and crashes irritating. Love the content and features of this app. It crashes frequently and the full screen pop up ads are irritating - just start reading the VOTD and a few words in an ad covers the screen. Very distracting and jarring.

Ads. I loved this app until they introduced advertising when you opened it. This began without advanced notice nor an option to pay a sum to avoid the annoyance. I stopped using the app after two weeks. Too bad I liked it.

Bad update. You just updated your, now it’s horrible 😢 have to look for a different one! Why is it these so called developers thing their improving these apps? When in fact they’ve made them worse! If it isn’t broke! Don’t fix it!

Please fix- don’t ignore. Please fix the default of always returning to Genesis 1. This app needs to revert back to what it was before. Why are you posting gaming ads?

Best bible app ever😜😍😜😍😝🤟🏼✌🏼. This is a great bible app for kids if they get bored at church 💒 and I don’t mean the kids reading the bible 📖 I mean that them doing that note 📝 thing and copying the bible📖 for their notes so that’s why I love this app!😍😍😍😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍🥰🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩😁😆😄😊☺️😉😌

App Doesn’t Work Anymore. This used to be the best Bible app. A few months ago it stopped working. It crashes all the time and now you have to watch ads that don’t allow you to actually read. I have hundreds of passages and verses highlighted that I cannot see anymore. Extremely frustrating! All the years I have used this app as my go to Bible app are now lost. What were the developers thinking? This app is now garbage.

What happened?. I used to love this app. Now I'm nothing less than frustrated. It seems that you/someone decided that a supposed improvement update would be appropriate and they've wrecked it. The app crashes when using the Comment feature, the Bible reading defaults to Genesis 1 every time and other features that were fairly seamless are now nothing less than awkward. Sorry to be so negative but, if you don't make some improvements and get this app back to where it was - or at least similar - you will lose me. Too bad if that happens. This WAS a great way to enjoy God's Holy Word.

Used to be good. Freezes constantly. Other parts of the app seem to work ok, but anytime I open the bible it freezes. It’s shame. I wouldn’t even mind the ads if the bible worked properly.

It’s so bad now. It used to be one of the best apps but now it’s so bad, it’s absurd. If it’s not crashing (which is literally 99% of the time), it resets to Genesis 1 🤷🏻‍♀️ The app is so ridiculously poor now it feels like it was purposely sabotaged. How does something so good become so bad so quickly?

Terrible Updates. The last few updates have left this app riddled with bugs and crippled in usefulness. Among other issues, it crashes every time I try to view a parallel translation. So sad that such a great app has been so poorly revised. Do us a favour and revert back to version 59.

Hi. This app is cool. Very epico. Download now.

Ads. I have been using this app for as long as I can remember but the recent addition of ads and the way they work is totally destroying my experience with the app. I kindly request you to remove the ads. It doesn’t even allow to skip the ads.

Wavy happened to this app?. This app used to be amazing, now it constantly crashes. I don’t understand how it could get worse with time. I wish it would revert to how it was in the beginning. Also disappointed that there is no longer The Passion Translation.

Used to be…. So good but now it crashes constantly, to the point where I don’t use it anymore. When I used it the Bible reading always opened to Genesis 1 and then, when I chose my passage, the app would shut down. It’s been doing this for a few months now; am very surprised that this hasn’t been fixed.

Adverts. This used to be best bible app until a recent update. Apparently it was to have various adverts. Now once you open the app, it is adverts. When one tries to go to bible reading, app closes. Also it will not allow one listen to bible when in reading menu because it closes. So many issues making it unfriendly since the update that put all the ads in

It’s Alright. But the letters are more smaller than before If I could fix the letters and make them bigger To read I would.

App will not open. I had the app for two years and it suddenly will not open. Even after deleting the app and redownloading it. Just stick with the real Bible. 😉

Crashes. The app is nice but sadly only when stable which is 10% of the time. It crashes more than it works.

Pay Wall :(. Been using the app for years to listen to the Bible. Just received an app update the other day (Oct 2023) which made the app unusable on iPhone. Deleted the app and then redownloaded from the app store to find that the new version has been stripped of most features and put behind a subscription/pay wall. Can no longer listen to NASB without paying. Have switched to Bible dot com app which gives me many more features and is free.

Possibly fixed. I just spent some time with tech support and after two or three simple exchanges, the problem may be fixed. I hope so. If it’s permanent, I’d give the app five stars.

App update. I don’t like the new update. The daily reading plan now has capitalized reference letters strewn throughout the passage and makes it difficult to read.

Cannot even open the app. Downloaded the app and it wouldn’t open.

App quit working. App has been great but lately getting glitchy since ads were introduced. I don’t see any ads in the real Bible. Hmmm.

Non functional. Over last several weeks or more, when I open the app & try to go to the scripture of the day it closes. Time after time, try to open to read a passage & the app closes. Plus the ad pops right up to block the screen.

Used to be great. But crashes constantly and the new ads are so distracting. Looking for a new app replacement.

Mine’s also unfunctional. I bought an annual subscription, it worked great for 6 months. All of a sudden, I’m able to open the app but cannot search, and no text appears when I select a passage or verse. Contacted Tech support three times, and no help. Also trying to remove the app and upload to my apple version 8 device….no success. Anyone else have this problem?

Audio Bible skips the last chapter of books. I’ve tested it on a few books and it does the same thing each time. Hebrews skips from chapter 12 to James 1. Galatians goes from chapter 5 to Ephesians 1. I’m running version 65 of the app on an iPod touch with IOS 15.6.1 Also, it doesn’t hold my place when I close the app. It sure would be nice if it would. I’m listening in the NT and it always starts me back at Genesis 1 when I open the app.

Recent update broke audio player. The latest update seems to have affected the ability to choose a passage to play with the audio player. No matter what passage I choose (in the Bible or the audio player) Genesis 1 starts playing. Please fix ASAP or revert to the old version of the app so the audio player works again. Update: It seems that the problem with the audio player has been fixed, but now I’m getting ads when I open the Bible. Please tell me you haven’t allowed ads into the Word of God. Please remove these intrusions ASAP. They have no place in a Bible app.

Started out great but went downhill. I really liked this app at first. I appreciated being able to compare various translations. In the last few months it has stopped functioning well. It crashes frequently, either when looking up passages or trying to manoeuvre between passages or switching translations. Very frustrating.

What happened?. This was a wonderful resource. Now I cannot look up scripture, read the Bible, or see anything beyond the quote of the day. If this is a paywall, I would recommend checking with God, as it is His word for all to read. God doesn’t have paywalls.

I wish their was an ad-free version available. I would pay to have the ad-free version if there was one.

No Longer Working. I used this app for years. But recently it has stopped working. Usually when I start the app, going to “Bible” is blank. And my notes have had the references all break so I can no longer see what the passage is or click the link to get to it.

It used to be good, now it just crashes. Every time I tap on the options and then Bible it just crashes. Every. Single. Time. The makers of this app should maybe try using it once in a while so they can make sure it keeps working.

Lost Words of Wisdom and Hope. I have been using this app for years, it WAS the best Bible app out there. However, your recent updates have destroyed the app. Instead of occasional ads you have changed to full page soul destroying ads. Instead of a user friendly app you have morphed BibleGateway into a tool of the enemy. What gives developers? Has your mission changed?

Decent app but needs improvement. This app was great a couple of years ago, but in the last 12 months has become frustrating to use. Basic functionality is there (reading Scripture, switching between versions etc.), but when selecting a verse to study, the resources have stopped loading properly — despite being on the latest version, good internet, reloading the app etc. And if you are part way through reading a resource & switch to another app for a minute or two, you come back to this app only to find that it’s reset & you have to start over again. I am a premium subscriber & love the desktop website — but would love some improvement to make this app stronger

Unusable, but Why?. After using this app seamlessly for years, and enjoying it thoroughly, someone changed something and it is unusable. For what its worth , I’m a paid subscriber. I have it on iPhone 13 iOS 16.2, and iPad Air running iOS 16.1. I have been patient, but I am going to end the subscription and start with another app. I hope that this wasn’t deliberate on the part of the company. Most other developers would have fixed it by now. But given the length of time that the app has been unstable, I am convinced that Harper Collins is intentional and deliberately letting the app die.

Once Upon a Time. This app used to be reliable. Now, it crashes often, and saved favourites appear incorrectly (‘Ephesians’ appears as ‘Titus’, or ‘Psalms’ shows as ‘Isaiah’).

True!. This has been a great app, but has made devotional time quite challenging. 😔

What changed??. I use this app every day, and recently it has had so many glitches I find myself losing my sanctification by the time I can get to the correct reading. I have to put my preference for the reader in every day, and getting to the correct place in the Bible to read is just plain annoying. Please fix this problem before I have to find another friendlier app to use!!

Too bad. Was great, now defaults to audio, and is littered with pop up ads. Will be looking for a replacement app.

The Passion Translation lacks functionality. I have been a paying member for a while now and can’t believe you guys haven’t fixed the issue with the The Passion Translation footnotes in the downloaded app... TPT is the only reason why I pay for your subscription and its footnotes are one of the things that make this amazing translation so unique. Not being able to click on them and enjoy it in its entirety is truly unacceptable. I’ve sent the app developers several messages and emails to address this issue and their response is to “use the online version of Bible Gateway”... really??.. When you buy a new car you expect it to come with tires... that’s what footnotes represent to this particular translation. I really hope you take reviews like this one seriously and address this issue since it’s been ongoing for months.

Wish I could go back to previous version. Wow this used to be really a good app that I have recommended to lots of people. Sadly I can no longer. Can I undo and go back to the previous? Likely not. Very glitchy and now the adds! Isaiah only goes up to 50 and hard to switch to Different versions using the same Section of scripture. Doesn’t seem to want to let me use the Max McLain voice but seems to be stuck on the Dramatized version. I am studying Isaiah, but in the list of books it showed Song of Songs and then Jeremiah! Another time as mentioned, Isaiah would not go beyond 50. Tried closing and reopening to no avail. Several other things but you get the idea. I would really like to go back to the previous one as it wasn’t broke and didn’t need to be fixed. 😢

Notes Difficulties. And another comment after the last update: nothing regarding my notes below and below some more has been addressed. Please fix the issue. - - - - It continues to crash and the copy and paste feature within the app is not like it used to be. I have so many years of notes in this app. Please fix - see below. - - - It crashed repeatedly on me this morning. I have been using this app for years and have so many notes in it. Please fix the notes issue (see below) and bug that caused it to crash. - - - After last update - my complaint remains. Please bring this back. I make the notes so I can refer to them later. I don't remember when they were created, so if I can't access them when I am reading, they are of no use. This would absolutely be 5 stars If you bring this back. - - - I use the notes feature heavily. Until the last update, I was able to highlight a verse, click on the notes icon, and see my previous notes. Now I am only prompted to create a new note. I don't know when I wrote my previous note(s), so searching for them is not easy. When I am following along in a sermon or discussion, I need to access the notes immediately. Also, I used to be able to copy to the clipboard and insert verses into notes. That feature is gone, too. PLEASE bring these things back!

Subscription Not Working Beware. I paid for a good year of subscription services and it worked well since April however now I get the message that I must subscribe to read resources again. Customer service seems non existent. Will update when I receive a response to my emails. For now don’t waste money. Update I increased my rating from one to 3 1/2 stars. I wish that the user experience was easier and that the links within verse or study worked in all instances so that a verse can truly be explored from all angles while the desire to learn more about a topic is still burning. Having to back out, find the referenced verse, then enter study mode again and find the reference book to see a note on a verse is just silly and a waste of time.

So much great; so much unrealized. I love the free options of signing in—syncing notes and highlighting, viewing multiple translations (and in parallel!), viewing a verse in “all” translations, having different passages open, and more. The current app for the iPad highlights a full verse at a time (no highlighting a word or phrase), often drops the passage and translations during Bible study if the iPad sleeps, has no way that I found to listen to audio AND read along. I tried to contact support from the app and was told no email was set up. My email is my login and there are no way I could find to set one up. I get more functionality opening Biblegateway in a browser.

Meets Basic Needs; Sleep Mode Function Needed. I have been using this app for years. I love that you can easily switch between translations whether reading or listening. The app is simple and easy to navigate. The only thing stopping me from rating it five stars is the lack of a sleep mode function for the audiobook portion. I wish there was a way to set a specific amount of chapters or minutes you want the audio to go before it stops automatically. This is really important to me because when I need calm, I like Scripture to be the last thing I hear before falling asleep without it later waking me up in the middle of the night because it just goes on and on. Please add this feature. Thank you!

Love the Bible, Hate this App. The app has been continuously getting worse. It’s starting to act a little bit glitchy but the main thing is that I use it for audio Bible. I like to listen. Whoever is developing that part obviously never actually listens or they would work out the bugs in five minutes. I like listening to max McLean but every single time you open the app, it defaults to the new dramatized voice. I just want it to stay on the selection I chose last time. Also, it never remembers the place where you were listening last and either resets to the beginning of that book or sometimes to genesis 1:1. So every single time I want to listen to a chapter I have to search it. All I want is to pick up where I left off with the settings I last chose.

Latest Update Ruined This App. I first found this app in May and I instantly fell in love with it. It helped me find better translations and also helped to weed out terrible ones. It was awesome to be able to go straight from the Bible, to search, and be able to search the same terms with different bibles. Then about a month ago the app got an update. It’s like it went back ten steps. I don’t care that they added ads, but it’s wonky and glitchy and crashes. The Baltic feedback is gone. If I search with one Bible, and switch to a different one, it blanks out and I have to force restart it and that only works sometimes. The worst part is when you choose a book, and want a specific chapter, they’re not all listed. If you’re reading and scroll up too far, it will jump several books and make you lose your place. I had to uninstall. It’s unbearable.

This is a great app, but…. Recently I lost all my saved data in the app. I use to be able to search for books of the Bible and read the cross references from scriptures. Currently, I am unable to access the books of the Bible for reading as well as study materials. I am also paying for services on Gateway, but they are unaccessible. I have not been able to get a resolve after the virtual instructions were given, stating to refresh first , delete the app then reinstall. All important saved information has vanished. I have not received anymore responses from Gateway about this issue nor how to rectify. I don’t feel valued as a customer.

Crashes Since Ads added. Used to love this app on my phone. I’ve had it for years. But recently they’ve made some technical changes to the look and have added pop up ads. Now it crashes all of the time. IF… I find my verse, it will crash once I move to second verse. Otherwise, it crashes before that with just pulling up the book. Every time. Contacted tech support twice and have two emails saying they’ll get back to me. I’m assuming they must have a list of emails to return since their change out. Meanwhile, I’m missing having the Bible on my phone and am trying out others. If they can get it fixed, I’m sure it will be great again. The Bible Gateway version on my computer seems to still work fine.

Love it!. So Thankful for this app! Using it, I have listened through the Bible twice now. I cannot remember verbatim or recite much just listening but the word is still penetrating my head and heart and I have found this app to be a huge blessing. I'm not one to sit down and read a novel often at all but I will gladly listen and often retain more that way. I start my day, most everyday, as I travel for work, listening to the Bible app as a habit until I reach my destination, before any other media, music etc. It has been a great blessing! Was listening in NASB, now listening in ESV and I was glad to hear a new narrator but enjoy them both.

I dont believe they care primarily about Gods Word.. The addition of Advertisements was one thing but the ads could have been limited to Christian resources. I've had swimwear and sorcery games advertised to me in full screen while in church. It's very embarrassing to have people think you are looking for rainbow banded underwear on your phone when actually all you did was open your formerly preferred Bible App. Bible Gateway is aware of the problem but they haven't fixed it. I open the app to read the verse of the day which I now call advertisement-then-verse of the day. I honestly think the wolves got into the sheep pen here. Some of these ads go beyond what would be reasonable for approval of theirs was a Christian approval process and it even seems they allow ads which are targeted against Christians. Gods Word is forever True, they can harass believers but they can't undo Truth.

Crashes way too easily & glitchy. I can’t unhighlight verses without it crashing the app, opening the app and going to a verse too quickly crashes it, sometimes it crashes randomly. Another thing is half the time when I do highlight a verse, it doesn’t show up until I get off and back on the app. Then when you search, you have to search your term and then press the search bar again to see your results, which isn’t a big deal but it’s weird. I overall like this app and even with these glitches, it’s my preferred Bible app, but would love it to not have to search a verse 3 times before I can see it without crashing the app.

Very Good. I return to this app almost daily to do my reading. Overall, it is a very good app. I would find way easier to use if you could make a few changes: 1. The audio Bible always re-sets to the default person who reads. I have to re-set it several times a session -- as in every time I go to a new chapter. There seems to be no way to set a particular reader as a personal preference that "sticks". 2. The reading plans force the reader to read only what you want him or her to read on any specific day. When I take some extra time to spend with the Bible, I have to abandon the reading plan (instead of just advancing through some additional days). I have had to give up on the plan and go to following a paper plan. Is there some way to make the plans flexible so that the reader can customize them? 3. The roll and scroll method of finding a chapter and verse is awkward and time consuming to use. Perhaps you could use a different method to select the scriptures. 4. Do you have a chronological reading plan? That would be very helpful. Thanks for a good tool.

Great App With Some Privacy Concerns. With multiple translations, great reading plans and an excellent search function, this app has been my go-to Bible app for years. With the latest update however, every time I open the app I receive an iOS notification that the contents of my clipboard have been pasted to the app. This raises serious privacy concerns as whatever text or images you have last copied are available for upload to the publisher’s servers. There is no way to disable this feature in the most recent version of the app or Apple’s iOS so I am looking for alternatives that aren’t quite so intrusive.

Used to love it. I have always used this app, but after the last major upgrade, I am more often frustrated, which takes away from the joy of studying this book. It was formerly helpful that the app opened to the last verse searched. Now, every time it opens to Genesis 1. I also formerly loved the ability to quickly search different versions during a word study. Now, I have to switch versions, close the app, reopen the app and search for the verse again to reset the version. The search function is no longer helpful and I turn to Google for searching. The search will tell you how many hits there are, but you can only scroll down through a few before the scrolling stops. I can still use the app to read the Bible, but I will be searching for another app to use for study.

Good app but a few flaws. I love this app most of the time and prefer it over some other ones. I love being able to see my highlights through my one user account whether on laptop browser or the app, but... 1) The app always closes on me and won’t hold my place when running in the background. I’ll be in church and I’ll leave the app go take notes. When I come back moments later when the pastor moves forward in the passage, the app has since shut down on its own and boots back up, making me have to search for my spot again. 2) I wish there were bookmark options where you could put a bookmark and simply access one of the locations you were last reading from the dashboard or a bookmarks menu option without having to manually enter the book and chapter each time. 3) I wish you could custom highlight. The app makes you select the whole verse. You should be able to select whatever part of the verse you want for highlight App is on the right track, but some basic UX issues could be addressed to make it even better. Thank you for the app!

Way better then online version. I discovered Bible Gateway was one of the only places that offered the TLV version which I think is a great version when studying the Bible. I downloaded the app on a whim and found it was fantastic! It’s way better then the online website. Easier to navigate and has a dark theme which I prefer to read with. I think I like it better then all of the other Bible apps I have installed on my phone. My only disappoint was it looks like the TLV version does not support the red letter option. It would also be nice to sign in with my Google account since I don’t care for Facebook or Apple, but that’s just a preference.

Major problems in extremely limited options. There are far too many problems in various option settings, well, that you can’t actually change. As an example, try to actually update, let alone change your email account, from an iPhone. On a desktop or laptop you have options to change colors in your highlights…this app, nope, you only get one color - yellow. The programmers need to actually read requests, complaints or advise, but rating well probably be filed in the trash and blown off. Personally I’d fire them all and get one with ones that actually field test the programs and have creative minds. By the way, I wanted to change my email address but there’s no option, my old one is now non-existent so you guys can’t let me know if you did in fact read this. If you did actually cate you’d contact me…I’m not holding my breath.

Bad, ads, paid Bibles. Bible Gateway is my go-to website for looking up scripture on my computer, but this app will not be. I understand the need for the company to pay for the app, but when they show you an ad before they let you see the Bible, something’s wrong–especially when almost every resource and Bible version available requires a purchase. Before I could even read the Bible I had to stare at a “binance” ad for five seconds and then press a button to close it. The app is generally ugly, margins are tiny, the font is old and busy. You can’t swipe between chapters. The ESV audio Bible audio is soooo slow. It sounds like they intentionally slowed down the reader’s voice. It’s just frustrating to listen to because you want to speed it up but can’t! You cannot select or highlight anything smaller than a full verse.

Thank you. I have downloaded and tried every other "bible app" and this is the only one that doesnt ask you for an email or other information to actually use it. THANK YOU Bible Gateway. You have tons of versions and translations that a person can easily compare side by side without having to spend 100s of dollars on physical bibles! Your interface is next to none. EASY to figure out the symbols and menus. EASY to switch between bible translations. I love the fact that you have a grey background with white letters when selecting night mode. Every other app has black on white, which is just too much contrast for me. I appreciate the fact that you made a very easy to use, non intrusive app.

Audio Bible not working versions 70 - 73. I have been using this app for 2+ years and loved it until now. I listen through the Bible on the phone several times a year with this. But recently it has just been a steady stream of lockups. There used to be two progress bars in the playback line but ever since the download progress bar was removed, whole books of the Bible became unplayable and the app would crash every time I got a call. If it didn’t crash it was forever loosing my place and refused to restart playback afterwards. Even manual playback didn’t work after a call. I reached out to support and never received a response to my request. I decided to ditch this app and try something else. It’s sad to see this one die. Also the updates have done nothing to fix the problems.

Very good study Bible. I really like this Bible because it has so much to offer and is an effective study tool. The multiple translations is quite helpful. Each update seems to add more. I agree, however, with some of the other reviewers about having a different way of getting to the books, chapters and verses. The wheel doesn't work very well for me, especially during service when the the pastor gives the scripture reference. By the time I've turned to it, it's done. Additionally, having the verse visible when I'm taking notes would be helpful. I like to see the actual verse instead of the chapter and verse. Perhaps the next update will remedy these.

Update needs updating! ***Revised***. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it and it's working fine. I really like this app and the updates are well done. I don't notice any real difference other than it looks a little more modern. It's a great app. My apologies for giving a low rating before trying to fix it. It's definitely a 5-star app for me! Ever since the update, the app no longer works for me. I use this app for my daily reading, but now I can't use it at all. It opens to the introduction page and then locks up. Please fix it. This has been my preferred Bible app, but I'm going to have to use another one now.

Was great now problematic. I couldn’t keep the app open. I know that I recently updated my iPad to latest version and that might be related, but I wanted to compare a verse in different translations, every time I selected a new translation or tried to go to the specific verse it would crash the app. Sometimes just crash, and every time I reloaded I saw an ad page, which maybe seemed excessive because of how many time I had to restart, but I don’t remember biblegateway making me close full page ads before? I quit using the app because when trying to go back and forth from search to verses, sometimes it just forgot what I searched and I had to start all over, now it is completely unusable. Hope they are able to update, I came looking hoping there was an update available.

What happened??. I used this app daily for years — multiple times per day. I’m grateful for any ministry that makes the Word so accessible!!! But the app keeps crashing and words fall out when I copy and paste verses. My history isn’t accurate when I need to look at a previously referenced verse. I’ve been a premium subscriber and I was set to renew at the end of the month. But I’ve cancelled my subscription until the developers get this fixed. I’ve been trying to work through these issues since the last update and see that others share my frustration… but Bible Gateway hasn’t said a word…. Hobbling through these issues is exhausting and when you have an app that’s been as awesome as this one take such a nosedive without acknowledging the problem, that’s disappointing. When the issues are ironed out, I’d love to resubscribe.

What happened to this app!?. I have been using Bible Gateway for many years on a daily basis and have always loved it. But not anymore. The recent updates have ruined my experience. Some of my favorite functions no longer work like the search bar that would allow me to search for words or phases and see where they could be found in the Bible and how many times they are used. With the update, I can no longer do that. That search function was something that set Bible Gateway apart from other Bible apps. Note to the developer, please please please fix this issue. The app was working perfectly before your recent updates. If the issue does not get resolved, I will be forced to look for a different tool to use in its place.

Keeps crashing. I’ve had this app for years. But the latest update not good. The app crashes upon opening it. Before that started happening, the app search feature stopped working. I usually enter The name of one of the books of the Bible, and it would pull it right up. Even if I gave a specific verse, it would pull it right up. But now, if I can get it to stay open and not crash in the beginning, the search feature just responds with the statement that I need to refine my search and that topic cannot be found. Even if I enter “Jesus“. So I finally decided to delete the app and reinstall it, and now it will not re-install. Incredibly disappointed. It worked so well in the past in conjunction with the app “Our Daily Bread”, which would give Bible verses to read every day. I would just click on the link in our daily bread, and it would take me right to Bible Gateway.

Used To Be Great. This has been my go-to online Bible for over 10 years. But something has happened. For one thing, It no longer saves where I left off reading…it goes back to Genesis every time. At times it won’t change to the translation I’ve selected…have to exit the app and re-open. I don’t care for the ads, either…annoying and I cannot afford the premium version…I’m in a financial bind. I’ll be looking to try other apps. Bible Gateway folks, you had a really good app…but you messed it up…if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! **Adding to my original review: What happened to the footnotes in the 1599 GNV?!?! What is going on with you folks?!?! I’ve amended my original review of 3 stars to only ONE! I’ve been using BLUE LETTER BIBLE APP (which is much better) for about a year now because BG is just TOO GLITCHY…and it didn’t used to be! However, BLUE LETTER BIBLE APP doesn’t have the 1599 GNV, which I love! And yes, I have footnotes turned on.

Biblegateway you have made me sad. 😢. I am a pastor and I have used this app for years. I even joined biblegateway plus! I use it to find paraphrases and translations of Scripture my congregations are not familiar with in order to revitalize worship. So that is why I am so upset that HarperCollins decided to remove the Passion translation (paraphrase or whatever you want to call it) from their app. The Passion translation is not word for word or even idiom for idiom, but it does relay the heart of Scripture in a way other versions do not. I know that we are not to take away from or add to the Word of God, but come on! Don’t be so legalistic. Does it proclaim Jesus Christ is Lord and advance the gospel of Christ? Yes! So bring it back so I can rate the app better and I don’t have to cancel my subscription to biblegateway plus.

What Happened?. I have use this app for years and my favorite is the NIV dramatized. When Jesus speaks it’s like he is speaking to me. I listen to it every day as I go for my morning walk. However in the last two weeks when I go to where I left off I find it has gone all the way back to Genesis 1. Now if I don’t write down where I left off I don’t know where to start again cause it keeps going back to Genesis. How do I correct that? Also when I changed to Psalms it wouldn’t go any higher than 50. I discovered if that I went to Psalm 50 and click the forward arrow then it would start going higher than 50. It never did that before. I was I was able to go to whatever song I wanted over Palms 50. Why is this happening? How can I fix it?

Parallel Bible problem 🙁. I use this app every day (literally) and I used to love it. I would do my daily devotional using the parallel Bible to study. I would use the New King James Version along with the Living Bible as my second reading, this way if I didn’t understand something, I could see an easier translation. Before they “fixed” the app, you would look up one verse in your first translation and the parallel translation would automatically pull up the same verse for you. Now, you look up the verse in the first translation and then have to look it up again for your second one, too. I know it sounds petty, but I’d been using this app for years and then to suddenly have it changed for the worse, it just bugs me, especially when you use the app every day!!! Please, please , please fix it!!!

So many translations, so little time!. The first thing I loved about Bible Gateway was that they have so many translations (English as well as many other languages)! Sometimes scripture becomes clear just by reading another translation. I’ll be honest, though, having access to commentaries and dictionaries as well as the ability to highlight and take notes and keep them is worth more than the low monthly amount they ask for getting all that. It’s called “Bible Gateway Plus”. For less than the price of one cup of coffee per month, that’s a treasure trove! Can’t imagine living without it!

Pop up every time I open the app. This used to be my favorite app, and I used it multiple times per day. However recently I have been getting a pop-up ad across the entire screen every time I open the app. Weird, random ads. One of the ads looks like it’s a message from apple and it says: your phone is almost full, click here to free up space. I looked it up before clicking on it and it’s one of those sucker ads. I thought this was some kind of hack or bug with the new update. After reading some of the reviews, I am not sure now. I hope BibleGateway is not allowing these ads intentionally. It completely changes the vibe of this app. has essentially made it unusable for me. I unsubscribed from BibleGateway plus because of this, and I am deleting the app.

Glitches. I have had this app on my phone for many years and several phones ago. It is an app I use daily for various reasons as it has been a great resource for me. In fact, I apologize for not giving it a 5-star review before now. Unfortunately, I cannot do it now because it now glitches quite a bit. Whatever updates that were made to the app seem to cause it to glitch in the following ways: 1. Screen freezes 2. Dashboard freezes and shows up as a blank, white canvas (even in dark mode) 3. Voice change in the audio to The female in NKJV doesn’t work 4. Scripture search scroll is not smooth any more That’s all I can think of right now. I miss how was working before a few weeks ago.

This app is sinking itself. I had been extremely happy with this app for years, UNTIL August 2022. Used the ‘contact us’ link in the app to let them know the issues I was having. It was addressed and seemingly fixed, but not for long. Experiencing several problems now, especially using the search feature, which was one of my favorite ways to use the app. Looking at recent reviews, I see other are having many issues as well. Change everything back to how it was and you’ll start seeing better reviews. You took a great app and ruined it. Must have sold out to liberal agenda who don’t want God recognized. Wrong move.

Bible App.

Used To Love It. Oh, I used to love your app. It was one of the best search tools, it was great for continuous audio, and so much more. But now, it doesn’t remember where you were if you get out of the app. If I do the audio, which is quite frequently, it has massive glitches and kicks out of it multiple times, and where it used to run continuously until I shut it off, it now stops at the end of each book. When you are scrolling to locate a particular location, it doesn’t even go directly to the verse you’re looking for —sometimes it’s at the beginning of the book and sometimes it’s right on but there is no consistency. That’s not to mention all the ads. So, I don’t know if this is a ploy to get a person to go to a paid version or not. But if I can find an app to replace this. I will.

It’s Done! It’s Here! Your Bible Tool Box. A must have tool in reading, studying and hunting that verse on the tip of your tongue. Know the verse but need the reference, you’ve got it here. Want to study without hauling all your reference books out. You have so many translations of The Bible at your finger tips. What are you waiting for? There is precious hidden treasure! Just want to relax and listen to a specific passages: it’s great! If you want to grow in The Word; Bible Gateway gives you the tool box right on your phone or other electronics. It’s mobile, it’s free and we have no excuse to not get in The Word and read, listen or study it anymore!

Love listening to God’s Word. I have used this app mostly for the audio Bible for many years now. It has really helped me start my day off right spending time with the Lord in His Word. Thank you. I have not been able to figure out how to communicate with the developer. Ever since the latest update, I have been experiencing several issues. In the audio Bible function, it defaults back to Genesis 1:1 and dramatized reading selections every time, where as I used to be able to pick up where I left off each day without having to change the settings. Hopefully you have already begun working on these issues. I look forward to using the app with ease again.

Multiple translations & continuous audio. This is the only audio bible app I have found that comes in multiple translations such as KJV, NIV, NKJV AMP and 37 more plus it will play continuously from chapter to chapter and book to book until you stop it. Plus you can easily look up things and visually read it instead of audio if you want. The only problem I have is that often it crashes with the audio. I contacted support who told me to go to settings and click "sync now" and/or completely shut off the phone and restart it. Sometimes it goes days with no problems other times I have issues every night. Hoping they find a fix for it. Other than that I'd highly recommend.

Frustrated already. I have only had this a few days, but already I am frustrated. I found it difficult to change the plan for reading through the Bible in one year once it was set. After I had the plan the way I wanted it, I set the reminder. The second day I was busy and didn't do my Bible reading, so I thought that I would make up for it the next day and read two sections but the app doesn't seem to allow that. I can not get it to the next passage. Further, I chose " the NT in one year" and the app just seems to give random passages out of the New Testament so there is no way to manually go to the next passage. Perhaps, once you chose a plan, if there were a list of the passages in the order you are going to read them, you could then choose the next one. Also, in the history section, it doesn't show the daily Bible reading. It only seems to show the additional passages you chose to read. Since I couldn't read any extra for "the New Testament in a year", I started reading the Old Testament and that is the only thing that shows in my history. So far, I am not liking this app very much.☹️️

Deleted app.. I read the reviews of this app and was very skeptical. However, I decided to download it and try it anyway, hoping upgrades had taken care of their problems. Well, it was even worse than what I read. So many glitches that one can't even get around in the different areas. Setting the default Bible version didn't work, navigating books in the bible was awkward and when I attempted to use the bible search for a common verse it didn't pull up anything! So I tried other words ir verses to search, but nothing! Then I went on google and did a search for the same thing - Ta-Da!! Google found the bible verse on the 1st try. Now something is wrong when a bible app can't even find a verse!! I don't recommend this app until and when they do a major upgrade. I hope they do. Ty.

Amazing tool - Update. UPDATE - After installing the update to this app, it’s back to its old self, I can browse like before and have no issues viewing any of the versions. The developers answered me to let me know that they were coming with an update to fix any necessary bugs, which is amazing customer service. Keep up the great job. I’ve been using this app for a few years now. I love that I can have different versions of the Word at the palm of my hands; however, with the new iOS update its not working properly 😢 I use the NLT version in both English and Spanish, and also the ERV version for our youth group meetings. Every time I open the NLT, in particular, there are these bars on the sides and it struggles to scroll. I’ve tried uninstalling and installing back again, didn’t work. I’ve tried downloading the version and it didn’t work either. I hope there’s a fix for these issues soon. I truly enjoy using this amazing tool of the Word, it has helped me to have a better understanding of the word of God. Three stars for now, but truly a 5 star app if it didn’t have all these issues.

Don't try to tweet Scripture, app exceeds limits. If you choose "share," you'll find that the app exceeds Twitter's character limit. I love sharing Scriptures, but this makes it impossible. Also, I enjoyed copying and pasting Scriptures without using the Biblegateway logo. Now the logo auto- populates, which isn't necessary for all postings. I get that you want to advertise your app, but it's Scripture you're advertising, not your brand. Also, the scrolling to choose verses is clunky. If you change versions, you lose the specific verse and you have to scroll again. Overall, I'm writing this because you've significantly hindered my ability to share Scripture. I don't like the other apps out there, so it's disappointing. Hope this is helpful info for developers. Really think through the updates you make. This isn't an insignificant app.

Love it, BUT update messed it up. I have been using the app for several years and love the functionality it has. I love the ability to highlight and star text, conduct a word or phrases search and view the text in several different versions. However, just a few days ago, after I got the alert to allow ads (I get it…), it started to crash when trying to highlight, not highlight at all (selected the highlight button but nothing happened) and the font sizes are all messed up! Help!!! I’ve loved Bible Gateway since the early 2000’s on my computer and more recently on my phone and iPad. Please fix it so it works again! I’d really appreciate it:-)

Bible Gateway App. It is very hard to use. I cannot find clear instructions and cannot figure out how to get it to do simple things. For instance, it is presently stuck in the book of Isaiah. I want to check out a passage in I Corinthians. I typed the Corinthians reference in the search box. It tells me there are no results for my search, yet directly underneath that is the first part of the Corinthians passage with its reference. I assume they mean no results that are in Isaiah and click on the reference and partial verse below, expecting it will bring up the passage. Rather it takes me back to Isaiah! I return to search and try again, this time double-clicking. Same outcome. I am probably mot the only person attempting to use the app who is not especially tech-savvy. I suggest including simple instructions or, if they already exist on here, making that obvious, etc perhaps having that page come up first thing each time the app is opened.

Please return the app to previous version!. I’ve been using this app for a decade. In my job I am able to put earbuds in and I’ve enjoyed listening to the Bible and jotting notes down when I think of something as I listen. In the last update the audio is no longer functioning properly. Sometimes it gets stuck in a loop on the same book. Often it resets my audio back to Genesis 1. Notes aren’t appearing anymore as I read. This is a tragedy to me as I’ve logged well over 100 notes over thousands of hours of listening. This app has been so instrumental in my spiritual growth over the last several years that I’m pretty stressed out about the bugs. Please return the app, I’d give the version before the update 5 stars easily!
