The applications OnSong was published
in the category Music on 2012-02-26 and
was developed by OnSong.
The file size is 104.84 MB.
The current version is 2019.2 and works well on
9.0 and high ios versions.
We're continuing to make OnSong better with bug fixes and new features. Please check out the release notes for this version at: http://onsongapp.com/releases/2019.2
Not only does this app charge extra for pen support, the pen support is not working properly. When trying to write with the pen, the screen constantly zooms in and out (without my hand on the screen) making my note taking unproductive. Even if it did work, by charging extra for pen support you might have extracted that out of me but you have lost my recommendation to any other music team member I will ever work with.
If you like to keep it basic, this app is very easy to use. If you like to geek out and get more in depth this app has multiple features that allow you to individualize your music and complete multiple functions. Today I am learning how to mirror my screen to other screens for the rest of the band, for example.
I have been using OnSong for over a year and I absolutely love it. I saw a couple of reviews saying there are too many features as if this were a negative thing. You can never have too many features. I would rather have the it and not need it than need it and not have it. This is one of the things I love about this app. It caters to the simplest of demands or to the most techno savvy user without one interfering with the other, so as you progress in your OnSong knowledge and comfort, there always are more features for you to explore. You can create a simple song library for you to browse through as needed, or you can use that same library to create a set list which operates as simple as turning the page of a book. If you want to get fancy you can add a Bluetooth pedal to turn your pages for you while keeping your hands free. You can either share this list or print it for band mates or sound technicians. You can add a scroll, backing tracks, notes, comments, etc. too many for me to mention. I do not typically write reviews, so for me to do so means I feel very strongly about this app. If you are thinking of getting it and you are reading reviews to get reassurance, then stop here, buy OnSong and don’t look back. You won’t regret it!!
Maybe this app was developed with church bands in mind - it seems to have been. Still, as a songwriter, the absence of a basic voice recorder is a big letdown. When I’m writing a new song, I record snippets as I go. In (now unsupported) old apps in the past, I would record multiple short “performances” so I could remember ideas as they came to me. Using my iPad or phone’s voice recorder isn’t the same - the audio files aren’t bundled with the chord chart, so they’re often hard to find, and I have create 10-15 of them as I write. Those apps aren’t built for that workflow. But this one should be, IMO.
I do like the idea of this app. Just wish it were more stable I have trouble using for live gigs. I’ve had songs stop and change tracks in the middle of a song. Many times as I’ve tried to change settings to fix this problem seems to be unreliable. Putting sets together isn’t that easy. It a bit buggy. It’s not designed to play songs on the fly if you’re in the middle of a set. If anyone can suggest ways to fix these issues please let me know.
Ideal for gigging musicians. Pairs particularly well with the ultimate guitar app. I export charts from ultimate guitar directly into onsong via the share button. Onsong then intelligently formats each to my template format. Simple, easy, and clean.
Do not buy
This App came highly recommended to me and so I purchased it. Once I got into it I realized that in order to find songs to play within the app I have to pay more money to another company. I am trying to figure out why this is a good app for anyone who’s not a professional musician... I don’t want to have to type in every song that I want to play and I feel like my money would’ve been much better spent on a different app... I am highly disappointed and don’t really find the video tutorials helpful... I wish I could go back to before I spent the money on this.
Importing double byte characters in a Word document fails and yields gibberish. The app SERIOUSLY needs to support two columns layouts both internally Update: with all the promises to “someday” provide an update that provides two column layouts, still YEARS later no visible effort to make it happen. Meanwhile all kinds of features I can’t use. I can only use the most basic features of displaying a chart and I have to convert it to a pdf to do it. It’s only basically useable for me. I have supported this app buying every version, add on and feature but this developer has their own agenda to bloat this app with “everything else”. Really frustrating.
There are a lot of good ideas in this app, but it is VERY buggy. I just lost 3 practice sessions worth of work because of a bug in set list sharing. It is a continual fight against bugs. It is inexcusable to deliver a product with so many bugs. I manage a software development team, and we would never release a product with this many defects. Update (3/22): I just lost 45 minutes work when onsong unexpectedly restarted while I was inputting a song. Yay. What egregious thing did I do to cause it to restart? I switched focus to a different app. If I wasn’t chained to this app due to having to collaborate with others who are using it, I would jettison it faster than this morning’s prune juice.
Sure, if you use their premium service you'll get better help. I've been trying to fix an auto scrolling issue for years (!) and "support" has, in the end, been no help at all. Oh and forget about using their "great chord chart features" on your existing charts (if they're in Word, or Pages) you have to redo the charts as basic text or start from scratch and create using their Word processor. We're professionals with 1,000 songs already - really, who has time for that?
I have had the app for quite some time and all the boys in the band use it exclusively. A great app which provides all of the facilities we need including the ability to share our music within the band. The service is always prompt and precise even for non tech guys like me Would still suggest that the key of the song be shown and chords named on the tab and pro versions Highly recommend
I hesitated for a long time, reluctant to spend the money on this app, but after a long frustrating time I bit the bullet and bought it. It has been the best money I have spent, this app is so clever, it is everything I wanted. I can install all my tabs in its library, including all my sheet music as PDF’s, I have never been so organised it is incredible, I will save money on not buying paper and ink cartridges and save time by not looking everywhere for my music. I cannot recommend this app enough, it has made me so happy I bought it.
This app is so confusing. I watched the tutorials and followed each step. The songs will not appear in my app! Grrrrrrr
Really struggling with this on my iPad. I try to use the drawing tool and it flicks out of the program all the time. When I go back in it’s gone back to the start of the song, very frustrating when you’re trying to sing with a choir. Also can’t see a tool to make legible notes on the page. Not worth the money I spent so far!
Saves me paper on stage, works great, just downloaded this and is much better with Bluetooth airturn106, works a treat,
OnSong is everything I need for making my music portable. I wish I were more capable of using the plethora of features provided in OnSong. The level of support provided when asked for and the frequency of updates is wonderful. I love being able to show my peer group my IPad and the OnSong App when they are lugging around bags of paper. No more sagging shoulders for me!
I just updated and it wiped all my songs
I run several Uke Groups, and this is the ideal tool not not only prepare chord charts for the players, but also the means to project them onto the big screen. Support has been very helpful and responsive - well done team! Garry.
Program keeps crashing, unable to use it.there are cheaper and more stable programs than this. Pretty convoluted way of having to import the songs and some features don’t work very well. Not worth the money unless you want to import set files specific to this program.
OnSong is a game changer for musicians. It seams like it’s been forever that I carried around 2 folders full of music . One with everything I had available and one to transfer to for the service at church. Getting rid of the bulky music stand and replacing it with a mic stand is by far a better look . The app is easy to use and can also trigger my pads live sounds cross fading them in and out , and all I do is change to the next song . A foot controller is all you need and many are available. It’s time to make the switch to OnSong and leave the paper behind.
Extremely useful app for musicians of all skill levels. Store and organize all your music. Create sets for gigs or Sunday morning services. Change the key in seconds. Share sets and songs with friends and group members. Import songs and chords using Dropbox. And these are only some of the many features. If you play an instrument you owe it to yourself to take a look at OnSong.
Requested specific help received generic replay. Problem is OnSong no longer appears as a choice in iPad 2 to save. Please advise.
Does not work good with foot pedals
I liked all the features they advertised.. I thought would be easier to type lyrics and chords in google docs then import.. it says your u can Import direct from docs and you can but after that won’t allow me to edit it like one I started a song from scratch in OnSong.. And all the nice features like console to allow you to edit on a computer is $9.99 more then another feature drawing $2.99 really... the freakin app was $24.99 now I guess I’m stuck with it.. I’d rather uninstall and get refund.
All in all, it’s great for as you say ... managing lots of songs, very flexible in how you can put them in, etc. where i still find it a bit “sticky” is when my duo partner and I try to “pair” the two together so I can control the list and see what I see. More than once it’s not worked 100%. We carry our own WiFi HotSpot for this purpose, even. So that still needs a little work IMHO. Also... when I back up a book of songs, load it on Google Drive and he tries to import, OnSong will freeze and only way to get it working again is completely uninstall and reinstall. This has been the case in both iOS and now 12. He has an iPad Air Gen 2 and I have the iPad Pro. So it works great if we don’t get too fancy. 😁
The editor shuts down frequently when in use with my iPad. Everything is up to date but still having issues. Error message: Getting songs from the device with a query string failed. I get this error message a lot. It’s frustrating.
I always recommend this to fellow musicians and worship leaders. It has some really great features from on the fly transposing and capos. I couldn’t give 5 stars because some of the other bugs like rwtc subscriptions not keeping my login info and I’d like to see the ability to move chords easier. With out using a text file edit. Something where I can just highlight it and scoot it over without affecting the chords around it. Overall it’s an awesome app.
When trying to import a song from lets say Dropbox it only imports the tittle and i cant see the rest of the song on the file sheet::: when trying to project it or not even on the iPad itself.. please fix it ASAP
As a performing singer songwriter, this app has become indispensable. Perhaps the best benefit of all is that it is constantly and intelligently updated, and a user can beta test as well. Support responds very quickly as well.
A great idea poorly executed and poorly supported with awful documentation. I have spent many frustrated hours trying to manage a playlist and backing tracks, all without success. Its also constantly crashing, which would give me no confidence using in a live environment. Do not recommend.
Greetings from Ireland. I have been using OnSong for over a year and I think it is a marvellous app, ideal for musicians using sheet music or, like me, being able to access lyrics and chords in an instant. I use it for gigging and have all my music co-ordinated in sets on my IPad. I further added to it by purchasing an Air-Turn 4-pedal unit, which allows effortless page turning etc. without taking hands off guitar. Well done to Jason, Jaime and everyone involved with this amazing app. I have no hesitation in recommending it to all my musician friends !! Keep up the good work. Brian
One of the most useful apps I've ever used. Great for keeping a catalogue of songs. Easily worth the price for the transpose function alone.
