Just Learning. I am one of “those people” that never had to worry about my weight...until I hit 60 and quit smoking. Because I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted, I never understood the correlation between food and gaining weight. Fast forward five years and I packed on the weight. I’ve been living with it for three years and decided it was time to start losing some of this again. I knew any fad diet was not going to work for me, so I decided to start paying attention to what I’m eating and how much I’m eating. Not having any idea what foods are high in calories or carbs or proteins, I decided to download an app to help me. After reading the reviews on My Plate I decided to try it and I was absolutely amazed at how easy this was to do. Not only am I able to keep track of my portions (calories), but I am learning which foods are high in carbs, fat and protein. I am almost 4 weeks in and have lost 4 1/2 pounds. The only thing I don’t like about it is how the list of food I have entered is saved. If you originally enter it for lunch and another time do you want to have it for dinner you have to search for it in the list under lunch and then add it to dinner for that day. I also wish there were some sort of organization to it so you could sort them alphabetically and be able to delete ones that you know you’re not going to use anymore. If there is a way to delete them, I can’t find it. Other than that, I think this app is well worth it.

Easy to Use, mostly. This app provides a lot of features and resources! You can keep track of calories, consumption of water, weight, calories burned, etc. They also have a Stronger Livestrong meal plan that includes work outs as well! I’ve just started it, and I’ve felt great so far! But now the server has seemed to entirely crashed. I can’t run anything on the app. I couldn’t log into anything or pull up my meal plan at all. They also email you your meals for the day and if you click on the image, it’ll take you to the recipe. Now when I click these links, they are unable to load. I have fantastic connection at my location so I found this odd. My phone and the app are entirely up to date, so I tried turning my phone off and on and uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Now I can’t login, sign up, or use the “forgot password” feature. Nothing will load, just keep getting a network error. I’m hoping I still get the emails so I can keep with the meal plan since I have all the groceries, but this is incredibly frustrating. So far I haven’t received any emails (they also send weekly emails about tips and articles that I’m subscribed to) regarding this server issue. So, in summary, the app works great and has lots of great features! Sadly, the app has a tendency to take forever to load anything (if at all) or crash some days...

Amazing. The best thing about this app is that it is simple and easy to use. I’ve been lifting seriously for the past year and went through a bulking phase where I went from 178 to 205 in a little over 6 months, in large part due to this app. A lot of the things I had been eating before using this app I didn’t know the exact makeup of the food I was intaking and with this app it helped me so much. So many other apps I tried for my meal prepping wanted to give me different things to eat and to try this and that, when all I wanted was something that could track my calories, carbs, protein, and fat intake. It was a blessing to have this. The “my food” part of this makes it quick and easy when, like many competitive powerlifters, you’re on a strict diet and eat the same foods at the same time every day for weeks on end. Now that I’m in the cutting phase again, I set my calorie intake level that I want, and I can track it throughout the day. Overall, amazing for those who do dieting seriously like I do.

User since 2008. UPDATE: MAJOR DATA LOSS. I just spent hours re-entering two months worth of workout information. I am absolutely done with this app and cannot recommend it to anyone. Recently the app has been extremely buggy in the most annoying ways possible. Every few days it kicks me out I have to re-login again. That’s not that big a deal, but every time I login all my information is gone and it takes a while for it to sink with the server to get the information back, and without fail every time I do all my activity calories burned for the past month is doubled and I have to go day by day and delete the duplicate entry. This happened again today and it’s been the worst time yet, because it has also randomly decided to stop including some of the calories I’ve eaten. I have 10 years worth of data from using this site, but I am currently looking for another calorie counting solution because this one is become extremely unreliable. I have emailed support twice and they told me they are aware of the bug and they are working on it, but there does not seem to be any progress.

Solid tracking app. I have been using this app for a few days now after taking a break. The meal plan seemed like something fun to try, but I just don’t like it. The recipes are not cohesive, and there is a lot of waste with the ingredients (only using 1/2 cup blueberries for the whole week) if I were to actually use this for shopping. I don’t like contributing to so much food waste. Also, I did not get a list of the meals and recipes until the day I start. This is not good for planning my lunches at work, and puts me in a rush on Monday morning. The meal planning option may be good for someone single, who has more red control over cooking, but it is not practical for families. I cancelled my premium membership and will continue to use the free app. If MyPlate had a comprehensive recipe box where I could choose the recipes for the week and then print a shopping list, that would be ideal. I would love to be able to choose my meals for me and my family, that we like, and see how it affects my macros and calorie input before throwing down a lot of money on groceries. Solid app for tracking calories. Wish the premium was better.

Good. *Updated* 1/9/18 The developers responded to my issues in a timely manner. That was greatly appreciated. I have since been able to use the “edit” option under the “my foods” tab effectively. Problem one solved. And in regards to sync my two devices it would seem I didn’t sync the devices correctly. “Force sync” the device you just added food to. THEN “force sync” the other device you wish to update. Thanks MyPlate Developers! Nice for tracking macros. However, I would like a couple more features added. 1.) Id like to be able to “modify” my food entries. There are a lot of in inaccurate additions to the food list. I think this is greatly due to not being able to edit an item once it’s been uploaded. I took the time to enter all the nutritional facts into an item, hit save, just to realize the protein was showing .18grams of protein, not 18grams. Very frustrating. 2.) I have two devices with this app, both under the same profile log in, and they don’t sync to each other. If the profile records could sync to an online data base that would be great. Hopefully these features are added soon and I’ll change my rating from 3 star. Thanks for listening.

Good and Terrible. The good is that the app is straightforward and fairly easy to use. The recipes are helpful. The micronutrient breakdown is good, although I haven’t quite delved into that. Unfortunately, this app stumbles badly when it comes to recording calories. Instead of simple measures of food (weights and measures, i.e. ounces, grams, cups, tablespoons) you get odd or meaningless measures like “serving,” or “slice.” Or you get odd quantities to choose from like 3 oz. So if I had 4 oz. of something, I have to enter it as a quantity of 1.33 of the unit of 3 oz. Why not just make the unit 1 oz., and let me scroll to 4? Also - sourdough bread - there are two measures available, both named “slice.” One of these slices is about 190 calories, and the other is something like 90 calories! So, I’m left to guess how many calories my slice was, and do the math to come up with a quantity? Why have this at all if I’m guessing? I have no issue with measuring or weighing my food, just give me units that make sense! (Noom is much better in this aspect.)

Ideas to make it better. I love this app I would track my calories by hand before and this just makes it better and easier. I would love if you had an option to pay yearly not just monthly for the gold plan because if you add that I will defiantly do the gold plan. I would be good if you did like a silver and bronze plan too that have other options. Also you should add a ** drink water remind** where we can have it remind us a few times a day. And it would be cool if we could have friends through the app and see each others calories and support each other because I do this with my mom but we have to go over calories when we’re together because I can’t just add her like a friend. Another idea in the meal prep you should have a weeks worth of recipes when you click that tab and you could change them every week. You could do it for the gold of course. Hope you read this post and get back to me. I really would love to see some of these updates it would make the app better and the pay by year would be perfect not everyone likes having another monthly bill.

A little buggy. NOTE: I am only marking this with one star to make sure the developer sees this message. The app deserves five stars (*****) which I will gladly change it to once the two following bugs are fixed. So I’ve been debating using this app or the LoseIt app. Personally I like the feel of this one more; however, I found a bug today that needs to be fixed. To reproduce the bug do the following: in the app select the exercise entry for the day. Type in an exercise and select one from the list (doesn’t matter what it is). Do not select “I did this” but rather click the back button until you get back to the original screen for the day. BUG#1: It has added it to your daily list regardless of canceling out of it. The secondary bug with this is that if you scroll down to your list and try to delete the exercise by selecting it BUG#2: there is no delete button on the following screen. What you would need to do at this point is close the app, re-open it, and then select the exercise you want to delete. As an iOS developer myself I know this is a quick and easy fix. I will be very happy to change the rating back to five once these bugs are fixed.

User-friendly, health-friendly, great app. Love this app, it automatically tracks all of your steps, provides a nice chart to know how many calories you have left depending on the info you put in, and if you follow it, you’re basically guaranteed to gain or lose 1-2 lbs a week (or maintain) as long as you put all your food info right. The gradual weight loss is also healthy for you- this app has helped me approach calorie counting as a way of being conscious, not guilty. I struggle to lose weight, and I lost 8 lbs over the summer by taking a walk every time I wanted to eat but was close to my daily limit. I’ve never lost that much at once, and it felt great, even if i did gain it back once i started school again. I have a RENPHO scale (which I also love for multiple reasons) which also automatically puts my new weight into this app. Overall, the layout is great, really great graphic design, and this makes it easy to keep track of your habits. I highly recommend to anyone who wants to lose weight but feels like it’s overwhelming. Just the number of calories burned going up after I exercise makes me feel even better for putting in effort!

Great app! Even without purchasing the subscription. This app is great! I have been overweight for the last 20 years and I never thought that I would be able to lose the weight. I downloaded this app with pretty low expectations. After using it for a few days and seeing everything that it helps you keep track of, I was addicted. Between accurately tracking my caloric intake with this app, and eating minimal processed foods, I have lost 40 lbs in about two and a half months and I am officially in a healthy weight range again! You can set a goal of how much weight you want to lose (or gain) and it will show you your daily calorie goal. It has a great graphing function that will help you keep track of progress for the last year. It tracks your daily calories, weight, BMI, carb intake, sugar intake, and so much more. Watching the line on the graph go down for the last few months has really kept me motivated. I couldn’t have lost the weight without using this app. If you are serious about keeping track of your diet and becoming healthier, I highly recommend the free download. I’m still using the free version, but I am so impressed with the results, I am going to purchase it tonight to see all of the other stats that I can track.

Can no longer add your own recipes. I used this app years ago and loved it. Just started using it again and am very disappointed to no longer be able to add my own recipes. This is a problem because we do not eat pre-made meals. Yes, you can manually add the calories and a few pieces of nutritional info, but this doesn’t cut it when I’m also trying to track the vitamins & minerals of my own recipes. It’s possible because the option was there in the past. It is much more accurate to be able to add my soup recipe in, for example, than to choose if Kroger, or Campbell’s or whatever brand comes closest to my own. I find the options of available foods lacking. This may work for someone who eats mainly commercially prepared foods or someone only tracking calories. My Fitness Pal does allow you to add your own recipes, so I will likely have to switch to them, unfortunate as I love other things here such as the vitamin/mineral tracking and the workout videos.

Food log problems. I would probably stop using MyFitnessPal and switch to this, but there are some huge issues with this app. That I believe can be easily fixed. As far as food logging, I have to constantly make "my own food" because the bar codes i can or items I search for are not being found, this gets really annoying and begins to be a huge waste of time. With the other app I am able to find and scan in all the items, that I can't with this app which makes it much easier and faster. Also when I precede to "add my food" because I'm now forced to because of the lack of food items within the app, it only asks for fat, protein and carbs, which I find to not be enough information as far as nutrition, on MyFitnessPal, it asks me for sodium, fiber, sugar, vitamins, etc. which I think makes more sense. I'm not sure if this is only with the basic version 🤔. Anyway I love the design of the actual app, the interface is easily navigated and I like that the home screen shows me the breakfast, checked off with the specific calories, in a highlighted form.

Great.. just one thing... Ok, so I really love this app. I learned about MyPlate in college & loved it then- still love it now. Only one thing!.. I do not like how vague the nutritional info is on the food that you add yourself. I wanted to create a (.64 cup personal watermelon) food because the only watermelon was certain brands I didn’t know, or a weird amount, like 1/16 of a watermelon…. Well, as I was entering exactly what I had- (Because I BUY the app for a reason!!! Because I want to know exactly what’s in the food I’m eating!!!!!!) it wouldn’t let me add polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat, or any of the vitamins!!!!! Then at the end it told me the total fat count cannot be higher than the saturated fat, or something like that. It was frustrating that I took my time to try to enter this & it wouldn’t even give me a space to put all the info I needed. I guess I’ll just have to settle on 1/16 of a watermelon since at least it includes some vitamins?? I mean, am I missing something?? Do others have the same issue, or am I just missing a hidden tab or something to add the rest of the info? 🤔😔 If I could do half star ratings, I’d give this one a 4 1/2 because it is great, I do love it, & it seriously does help me loose weight. I also prefer this over other apps (like weight watchers) because I feel like I can actually LEARN about the food I eat rather than just having points etc.

More Accessibility. I have been using MyFitnessPal for a long time and was looking for a refreshing new experience. Came across your app and actually I think I prefer it more than MyFitnessPal, the concept and it’s compatibility with the iPhone’s software makes me (an iPhone user) want to rather use this app instead of MyFitnessPal. I want to make this my go to app except for one feature, the fact that the color choice of the app is in relation to your iPhone being in light mode or dark mode. As someone who prefers having my phone in dark mode, when I opened the app and saw the screen dark, it was a turn off for me. Some people may think otherwise and prefer the dark mode, but to me it gave a depressing vibe. As small as this feature is, if I’m going to use an app for every meal to count calories I for sure want it to look appealing to me. I think a simple fix for this would be to give the person the option to choose whether or not they want it to be light or dark in the app settings, and to not have it based off your iPhone settings. As nit picky as this critique is, this one feature would make me switch from MyFitnessPal to your app in an instant without hesitation, but until then I’ll be staying on MyFitnessPal solely because of the ability to have my screen continue to be white, even when I’m in dark mode. This is a great app, but adding in a little personal accessibility would blow the competition out of the water.

Please improve. I really liked this app for a while because it has better connectivity and syncing with my other Apple activity tracking apps and devices than “MyFitnessPal”. And I like the simplicity of the user interface. ALSO no ads!! However after using it for some weeks I have a few complaints: 1. it doesn’t have the best foods database. Many unverified foods that have no information about quantity other than “1 serving”. 2. Search engine is weak. 3. Also the measurement increments are not small enough, and no ability to change to decimals. 4. It doesn’t remember quantity of a particular food from the previous day so that has to be selected every time. 5. The “My Meals” feature does not always work- choose it and go to create new meal, add food “start tracking now and your recently tracked foods will appear here” = nothing, even after using the app for weeks. Then enter the foods manually and name the meal, try to save and save is greyed out. Tried it 2x on separate days. Summary- Entering foods can be a time consuming pain. So I’m back to using My Fitness Pal for foods. But on the positive side My Plate syncs with Apple Health app, other apps, Watch etc and tracks activity really well so I’m hoping for future improvements.

Husband lost 70 lbs just tracking calories. I was using a different app that my PT was using. I told my husband to get an app like this. Once he got MyPlate and he was tracking his calories he realized more of what he was eating. He was better able to avoid foods that were full of empty calories and keeping track of his foods helped him see what was making him sick and what didn’t. It tracks carbs, sugars, fats, sodium, and proteins. (More than this but that’s all we use). Once he realized how much he was actually eating he started making better choices a little at a time. He wanted to see how much he could lose before he started working out and he quickly lost 60lbs. He found that he was eating more than 10,000 empty calories before. Now he keeps it to under 2,000net calories. (It subtracts calories burnt that are tracked with his iWatch- I have an iFITNESS. Which is much cheaper and it syncs to this app as well). He loves it. It’s like a game to him. I tell everyone about this app because I’m so proud of him. Literally, all the motivation he needed was to be shown how much garbage he was eating. Now, because he’s eating less processed sugar, his sores heal faster, he’s off his gout medication,($200/month) and we’re hoping he’ll be off his bp meds next visit. His teeth are in better condition without all the soda. He can’t even stand to eat all the junk because it makes him sick. LOVE THIS APP!

Easy entry. I like how easy it is to enter the foods I eat.I wish sometimes there were different units of measure for some foods. And also I don’t like how I put in a food and multiple choices come up and sometimes none of them are the correct amounts for me and have different calories for the same unit. It would he nice to have someone that was constantly working on slimming down each item to just one easily found choice but multiple units of measure. And lastly your meal plans although nice or sometimes just too complicated for me. I need it very very simple. Especially when you have someone starting a diet for the first time they need like one or two items for each meal only. Maybe offer not so much a mixed dish but two or three items for the same meal like a piece of bacon two eggs one apple etc.

Good when starting out but food list needs updating and expansion. This app has been helpful in terms of forcing me to track everything that passes my lips and being aware of what I'm eating. I also find the chat helpful for the most part. My biggest problems with the app are the food list and the exercise list. The food list needs to be updated more often to add foods and needs to include mixed food made from scratch. For example, I made a bag of mixed dry beans with low fat reduced sodium chicken broth last night. I had to add each kind of bean one at a time, add the broth, add the onions, celery, etc. and then estimate how much I ate of each item. Ugh. The exercise app needs an overhaul and to include more types of everyday activities as exercise. I have lost 5 pounds so far. I am about a month in now and for the most part I still feel this is a fairly good app for tracking your foods and macros. I feel less positive about the chat portion and I've decided not to use that aspect of the app any longer. There is 1 person in particular who thinks he is Gods gift to the food and diet world and I've grown tired of his incredibly nasty approach to everyone. He's The school yard bully.

Great, but with a Bad Change. I’ve been using this app for a long time, and generally, it’s awesome. The UI is really nice, and it makes it easy to track things quickly and keep tabs on nutrition. One key change, however, has disappointed me. In a recent update, they changed the weight progress chart from a scatter plot to bar graph. Not a big deal, right? Unfortunately, this UI change has made it look like my weight has hardly changed at all over time, while previously it showed weight changes as dramatic, which I found encouraging. This new change is frustrating and makes it harder to be excited about my progress. I’m not sure if this review will reach any devs, but I’d like to hear their thought process on this change. Update: Thanks for the response! I really appreciate the fact that you all listen to feedback. And as a programmer myself, I get it - these things take time. Anyways, overall great app and it’s wonderful to actually hear from the developers.

Love this app. I started with Noom but tracking my food was the only part of that program that seemed useful to me and I didn’t like it much even for that. With Noom there were a lot of clicks required and irritating pop up messages following every single food entry. So I decided to for search for a free app just to track food. Next I tried MyFitnessPal. That lasted less than a day. Then I tried MyPlate. I’ve been using it for about a week and I’m loving it. It’s easy to use, clean interface, minimal junk, ads, or other annoyances. Plus it has features I didn’t even know I wanted like showing how close my intake tracks to my goal percentages for each macronutrient. The goals are also nicely customizable. I’ve already lost a couple pounds. Now I’ve signed up for one of their meal plans which is something I wasn’t even considering before trying the app. I’m super happy to have a grocery list of healthy foods all prepared for me (big time and effort saver there) and to try some new recipes this coming week. My only request would be if they could offer the option to double or quadruple recipe quantities since I’m cooking for a family. But obviously I can do that myself. At the price of free this thing is a heck of a deal. 5 stars. Update: The first day’s meal plan arrived. The meals didn’t appeal to me so I’m probably not going to do that after all. Still loving the app though.

So many improvements since I tried it last. I am vision impaired and I have been using this app for over a year. I have used both the free version and the upgrade, and both are excellent. In addition, I have contacted the developers about features in the app that were not accessible. They have written me very courteous responses and have fixed most of the issues willingly. I appreciate their efforts for inclusion. I would like to suggest that in the fractional pop-up menu for less than whole quantities of a serving that they add smaller quantities than 1/4 serving. I would like to be able to log smaller amounts such as 1-3 ounces, teaspoons, or tablespoons. I would strongly recommend both versions of this app. Another suggestion: there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to foods recently tracked. Foods eaten most recently either don’t show up in the list at all or they are buried in the middle or close to the bottom. Any food eaten on a particular day should automatically appear at the top of the list.

Has massive potential but not there yet. I love the look, feel and options of this app ... to a point. Where is it lacking? 1) When attempting to change my calories goal manually, it doesn’t respond right away and I have to keep fixing it; 2) When trying to set my carbs, protein, and fat percentages, it only gives me the choice of percentages in 5% increments, not grams and not smaller percent increments; 3) When the app calculates grams based on percentages while inside the goals section, the app rounds down (22.5 becomes 22). However, when the app calculates grams while inside the meal tracking section the app rounds up (22.5 becomes 23). I know I am a control freak and some people think these are minor things. But over one’s own body ... we all should be control freaks. If these things were fixed, it would be a most amazing app! UPDATE: To change the calories goal, delete the old goal, click on the back button, then go to the calories goal again and put in the new goal. There’s a “set goals” button in the percentages screen, why not in the calories goal screen?

Saving my future. Before I had gotten this app, I seriously didn't feel confident in what I was eating at all. This is is saving me and here's why. I'm 14. Before you start yapping about how I shouldn't be dieting and blah blah blah, I have very good reasons so try to hear me out. Both of my parents have very bad health and struggle with their weight a lot. Cancer runs in the family pretty strongly, and my father has hearth issues. My mom is always in pain in her joints and we are pretty sure she has a type of arthritis. I'm currently 158 pounds which is a lot- especially for my age. If I continue eating the way I do, living the way I do, or drinking as little as I do now...I could potentially not live a long healthy life. If I eat healthy and I workout everyday and try to drink 80 oz of water, I think I would actually be a healthy human. Will it stop me from cancer, arthritis, and blood pressure issues? Maybe not, but when you are healthy and living a healthy lifestyle, I believe you have a bigger chance in survival. I have been using this app everyday for about a week and it makes me really happy to say that I am losing weight as we speak! My skin looks really nice and I am finally feeling confident in my body. I am so happy to have this app, it's a life changer and a life beginner. I love that it doesn't have pop up ads either. Thank you creators ✨💛✨.

Recent update is frustrating. Update: The update after my review help resolved most of my issue with the app. There are some things that could use work, like the delay when adding or removing foods, but it’s minor things. I do wish there was a way to add new foods through barcode. I’ve used MyPlate for nearly a year now and had little issues before the most recent update. I am getting similar bugs to other reviewers but I’m most frustrated with the recently tracked list; I have to constantly type and search for my foods and if there is more than two of the same keywords I don’t see the third recently tracked. If there was at least a way to edit or have a favorite for the recently tracked that would be much better. The my meals section is also not working the same as before, there’s no way to edit meals already done. Overall it’s ok. I can live with it, but it was much better before.

Helps you track your effort and results. This app will NOT do the weight loss for you, but it will help you to realize you had the power to lose weight through moderation and dedication all along. I have steadily lost 30 lbs in the last 6 months! I went from size 10 to size 2, and am no longer overweight. I have had hypothyroid my entire adult life and never thought I’d be at my college weight again. I wish I’d gotten out of my head and done this sooner! I use this app to track my food and exercise easily and quickly. Most foods and exercises are easily searchable, and you can also create your own food and exercise entries. You can track your daily macros to make sure you’re getting enough of each nutrient. The app has settings for different ages, weights, activity levels and weight goals. I also plan to continue to use this app to maintain my current weight, as well as gain weight at a healthy weight when I get pregnant. Tracking my habits using this app helped me to realize that I used to underestimate the quality and quantity of food and drink I was taking in. It also helped me to rebuild a healthy relationship with exercise. I can now run 3-5 miles every day… and I actually enjoy it. Friends, family and coworkers keep asking me what my secret is… I tell them… It’s the same old idea of calories in, calories out. Use MyPlate to keep track of it all and be honest with yourself.

This app helped me drop 60 pounds of fat. To give backstory, I was an offensive lineman in high school. I was D2 quality coming out of my junior year. My senior year was filled with injuries and eventually I needed shoulder surgery. This surgery and the subsequent recovery process lead me to peruse academics as my means of scholarship. After I had decided this, I was left with about 3 more months of physical therapy. After my physical therapy was done, I was left an atrophied mess. The muscles I once used to push and block were now faded and flabby. I was fat. During my years of football, I had always wanted to be a leaner, more athletic version of myself. I now had the ability to do so, no longer needing the weight for football purposes. I went from 285 at my peak weight to 214 at my lowest. Since then, I’ve gained some back, but now, I’m making a serious run at cutting for the summer. I look forward to using this app for many more years to come.

Limited app; don’t bother with membership. This app is useful for tracking calories, though MyFitness Pal has way more products in their database than My Plate. I had a hard time finding many of the things I eat in their database and ended up guessing a lot; their portion size presets mostly didn’t make sense with the foods I was trying to enter either. But if you just want to loosely track activities and what you are eating, this app will do the trick. However, I really do not recommend paying for the gold membership. They will send you one document that you can only read in the app, with information you can find anywhere on the Livestrong website. The Stronger challenge is also ridiculous—the grocery list for week one was about three pages long and so random. And the tracking macros feature didn’t work as far as I could tell. In the end I didn’t see how the gold membership provided any added improvement to the usefulness of the app or to my own efforts around fitness and nutrition. I contacted customer service to request to cancel my membership. The person who responded (three days later) gave me tips for viewing my membership. I wrote back to clarify that I wanted to cancel and still haven’t heard back; it’s now been three and a half weeks. Overall I would say don’t bother with this one.

Beneficial to my weight loss and muscle gain.. In July of 2018 I was 204. That kind of weight on my 5’7” frame was not good or healthy. I began exercising and was struggling to notice any loss of weight. I heard about MyPlate and began tracking my calories. Being able to monitor my Proteins, Carbs, and Fats allowed me to know exactly what I was getting from one meal to the next. By being able to see if I was meeting my daily macro nutrient goals allowed me to adjust my nutrition accordingly and the weight began to almost fall off. One week I decided to measure everything on a scale to input exactly what my caloric intake was. Not that I would recommend this for everyone or for any consistent time, but in that week I lost at least a pound a day and still felt energized due to getting exactly what was needed for my body to lose weight and still maintain action. I do recommend this app to anyone looking to lose weight and/or gain mass.

Good app. I like this app and have been using it on and off since I was 18 (I’m 23 now), I’m also 5’7”, and about 70 lbs down from 186 lbs. I appreciate the way I’m able to count calories with more precise measurements of food. However, one thing I would love to see on this app are time stamps of exactly when I ate last and/or the ability to input a time stamp. Or even a way to adjust reminders of when I need to eat next that matches my daily routine (if this already exists in the app, my apologies). I have a co-morbid disability that makes food/remembering to eat throughout the day a bit of a challenge for me. So, I think that having a more handicap accessible app to help keep track of my daily in-take would be extremely helpful. Even if I didn’t have a disability and I was still trying to lose weight, I’m pretty sure a lot of people would appreciate an adjustable time stamp.

Great Concept. I like this app a lot, my biggest concern, is that you should be allowed to set your age, because teens and below need a certain amount of calories, and not being a leg to set this, can make it seem like it is okay to eat less than the necessary amount regularly. I also think that there are a lot of uneducated people in the chat feature. I understand that it is hard to educate everyone, but my suggestion, would be that when you sign up for the app, to have to go through a quick flip through, things like self confidence and doing it for you, and about children needing a specific amount of calories, balancing nutrition with exercise, drinking water, etc. I also think that this app should incorporate sleep, because sleep is very important to staying healthy, because we shouldn’t be doing these things to lose weight, or be pretty, we should be doing them to be healthy and have a better quality of life. I also think that maybe there should be a kids version that not only tracks basic health things, but also teaches kids about nutrition with fun games, and entertaining exercise, it could be a fun way to get they whole family involved.

Inappropriate Notifications. I downloaded this app to be more aware of what I eat and how that applies to my fitness goals. My overall goal isn’t just to lose weight, but to gain muscle and get more fit in general. However, this app is very much tailored to weight loss. My main concern is that I just received a notification to, quote, “track every bite you take today” and frankly, I find that insulting, inappropriate and unnecessary. As someone who has suffered from a very long term and damaging eating disorder, the last thing I need is for an application to trigger me back into an unhealthy mindset. This app heavily encourages you to “take control” and I feel that it’s almost trying to guilt me into driving my health down a dangerous path, as well as anyone else who might be susceptible to phrases like that. I know this is very common in diet culture and it absolutely does not need to be. Developers, I ask that you revise your notifications to be more neutral. I’ve already disabled them, but I’m also considering the well being of others. If MyPlate continues to make me feel guilty and unsafe, I’ll have to uninstall.

Good app, a few tweaks could make it a great one. Hello, I’ve been using this app for a few weeks now to maintain my weight and keep track of macros and it has mostly been great. There are, however, a few issues with it though. First of all, when selecting what serving size you ate, the fractions constrict your ability to accurately determine how much you ate—I believe that either the inclusion of smaller fractions (1/5, 1/6, 1/7, etc) or the option to use decimals would be greatly beneficial to the ease of use here. Another issue comes up when you select a food that you have eaten before—with some foods, there are many different units you could select from, such as pieces or grams or ounces—however, if you have already eaten this food once before, you can no longer select from any of the other unit options besides the one you previously used. It’s quite frustrating and may force you to select a different food that may be inaccurate to what you actually ate. Overall, however, I really like this app and use it everyday. I’m the kind of person who likes to know all of the numbers and details, and this gets the job done without any nonsense. Thank you for reading and please consider fixing the aforementioned issues!

A decent tracking app. I like many of the features of this app. It offers good macro tracking and some vitamin/mineral tracking. It’s simple to enter your food and I do find most of the products I use are listed, with a few exceptions. The search feature is lacking a bit. A lot of times I can type exactly the name of a product into the search and it won’t find it, and sometimes just pulls up weird totally unrelated stuff. Often I have to scan the barcode to find things. Overall I think the use of this is generally fairly intuitive and more simple in layout than similar apps like MyFitnessPal. It took me a minute to figure out the excercise tracking, which I think could be set up a little better (for ease of use, the same setup as the food logging) but it’s not hard to use. These things aside I have liked the app overall. I probably won’t be renewing the premium, which I think is expensive for what You get. I just didn’t find the additional nutrient tracking and other features very helpful for me but maybe they’re worth it for others and maybe that will change with updates/time. But the for the free version I think it’s great and has definitely helped me watch portions and eat better overall.

Very handy. I decided to download an app to track my meals because I was concerned about what I was eating. I’ve been a vegetarian for a few years but recently became lactose intolerant and wanted to make sure I was getting carbs/proteins/fats in a good balance. It’s easy to use and gives a nice breakdown with handy graphics, and it also gives nice recipe recommendations. I’m only giving it four stars because of how it’s centered on weight loss as opposed to just health. I used to severely restrict my food intake (less than 300 cal/day) in order to fit a certain body type and I was horribly unhealthy. Having a set of calories given brings back some of that stress and over concentration on calorie intake. I would love it if this focused more on nutrition instead, but you can’t have it all. If you are a vegetarian I would 100% recommend this app though, because it does have vegetarian specific recipes and is very helpful in making sure you get the proper amount of fats/proteins/carbs.

Almost perfect. The app is very useful when it comes to logging meals and being able to keep track of my calories. I love that it shows me my macro total percentage-ages for the day as well. Micronutrient info and daily goals are neat but not totally necessary esp with the sodium thresholds and such available to view online. However, it is a very common and free feature of other meal tracking apps to be able to create a meal (with however many servings of individual ingredients) and then say how many servings that meal makes. Unfortunately, with My Plate when you click on a meal you’ve made, it lists all of the ingredients individually. This makes it very tedious, if not impossible, to accurately input homemade recipes. This is very annoying since I do a lot of cooking at home and meal prepping. I would love to see this one feature changed. Other than that this app is great - especially including all of the online features it allows you to input about your starting point with your body measurements along with weight. The graphs are encouraging. I’d love to give 5 stars when I’m able to make my own “serving” sizes for homemade meals!

Great, but could be even better!. I’ve really enjoyed using this app, and it’s really easy to use. The only issue I have found is the amount of inaccuracies in the stored food information. It would be really cool to have a user rating system to help verify the information of the foods listed. For example, users could upvote or downvote certain foods based on accuracy. Also, there should be a way to report/give feedback on foods that have incorrect information. I have found that even some of the “verified” foods are wrong. For example, I compared the information from the package to the information on the app from the bacon that I had this morning. The app had the nutritional information for raw bacon listed instead of cooked. Who eats raw bacon? The same thing happens with boxed foods that have the unprepared and prepared calories listed. With that being said, I understand it would be near impossible to make it 100% accurate, but I hope the accuracy can be improved.

Theres better ones for Keto but good for what it does.. So overall, it’s not bad. I like that my Bluetooth scale syncs to it to enter in my weight as well as my Apple Watch to track calories burned. Logging food is easy enough however I wish it had the graph by each food that was eaten that day so you don’t have to open them individually to see which one had the crazy amount of carbs/fat/protein. It has them when you’re putting the info in but by the time I’m done and I look at my overall (daily) intake, I forget which was what. One thing I’m really disappointed in is there is no Keto/Paleo or other “diet” options in the food selections. There’s not even a low-carb option. The food plan is pretty moot if you’re following a specific diet. There’s really not a whole lot of recipes and it would be extraordinary helpful if in those few, you could like or save the ones you want to go back to later vs scrolling through them to find the one you wanted. I paid for the 1 month service to get the full experience but dont see a point in resubscribing. I’ll be trying the paid version of Carb Manager since it’s specific to the Keto diet. —-I’ll miss the look of this app though. Also very noteworthy—it counts carbs for what they are, not net carbs. This is why I was starving! LoL I thought me hanging an avocado was it. Well—on Keto, it’s only 2(net) carbs instead of 12! 🥴

Great app for tracking!. I really enjoy using this tracker, even with just the free version. The aesthetic is very nice to me compared to MFP. I like that you are able to connect your fitness tracker (Apple Watch for me) and I also like that it has meal recommendations depending on your goals. I love that you are able to put in your own food if it’s not listed and build your own meals so you can add all of its contents at once, making tracking oatmeal and smoothies and my other favorite food concoctions much easier. Only downside is that you can’t track only a portion of the meals if you make more than one serving (for example I made muffins and input all the ingredients I used into a meal, until I saw I would only be able to track eating the whole batch rather than 1/6 of the meal). Besides that, I like that there’s a notification option and how you can schedule daily reminders to track. Overall, great calorie/macro tracker and I would highly recommend!

Hate this app. I give them total access to my personal info through my watch but then they’ll only share half of the figures I provide them back to me which means I either have to do algebra every time I want to determine what my calorie deficit is or pay them money to tell me the info I’m giving them thru my watch? So I go back and forth between different apps to get the values and do my math homework. Meanwhile after a few weeks having it set on “lose 2 lbs per week” just to see what it does - i see it’s wrong. It tells me how many calories I have left to eat but that amount of calories leaves me with an average daily deficit of only 500 calories - that’s one pound per week. Fitbit was so much better I never thought getting the Apple Watch would make this all so much more complicated and convoluted because I now have to rely on (and pay?????) crappy 3rd party apps like this one. On the hunt for an app that doesn’t hide my total calories or my calorie deficit behind a pay wall.

Starting again - working better now. Update - so far so good. Apple Watch Activity tracking is good. I lost the meals I had created and haven’t tried it again. I had written to app support and they responded - a wonderful sign! I decided to switch apps (from My Fitness Pal) to see if I could get better Apple Watch tracking and also provide a different visual view. I have deleted MyPlate and restarted it to see if there was an error I made. I opened the app at 6am today and it showed I had already eaten breakfast and lunch and had done 325 calories worth of exercise. These were entries from yesterday. Yesterday the entries were not recording correctly. I tried to adjust them, but every time I exited and re-entered, I got a different result. And the Watch tracking, which had been very good, was not working correctly. I like the app enough to start again. Will report back. (Few minutes later) That didn’t work. When I deleted the app, the message said it was deleting the data, but it did not. Edit of a meal doesn’t work. There is no edit capability when I click Edit. Please fix. I’ll find another way to report some of this functionality that needs fixing. Decent app. Just needs some tweaking.

Love it.. The app is helping me lose weight by helping me count carbs. At first I was using the free version just to count calories. I was doing great in the calorie department, but my weight wasn’t changing much. I dug a bit deeper, and thanks to the other features of the app I realized I was eating carbs mostly. The app opened my eyes to the macros, and I did more research online. I limited my carbs intake to under 50%, and mind you, I hadn’t been eating candy, cakes, cookies or snacks before, my weight started dropping off at about two pounds per week. The app taught me that there are carbs in beans and vegetables, and that I need to pay attention to the macros in all the foods, including those that I had thought healthy options; my vegan home cooked meals were packed with carbs. By balancing my diet better, I actually started feeling better almost immediately. The fogginess is gone, I have energy, I don’t drag myself from task to task, and I’m at my lowest weight in years, and my BMI is normal. I will reach my weight goal in a couple of weeks. I am eating differently, and I don’t miss my old food habits. I don’t crave sugar. I feel good. Thank you, App!

Really easy. This app is really easy to use and it’s also very visually appealing to the eye with your proteins and such being colorcoded so you know to pay attention! The only thing I would suggest to improve is the comment section and the sugar intake system. It would be nice if there was a reply button to other people’s comments in the community to make things easier to write and read. It’s kind of just a bunch of comments and to understand what people are talking about you’d have to read ALL of the comments instead of just the reply section or the original comment that was replied to. It would also be nice if the sugars could be separated from added sugars so it can be clear how much added sugar we should be eating and how much natural sugars we should be eating. As a fruit lover, I love eating my fruits with a low-calorie dip but it’s super hard to tell if I’m going over my added sugars or my natural sugars.

Great but approximations on macros. I really like the features, especially scanning in food barcodes! It is a little difficult entering the nutrition data of a portion of a complex meal, but I tend to keep things simple. It I has forced me to take a look at my actual intake and measure my portions. A simple kitchen scale is great with this app when eating whole food. My one gripe is that I am almost certain the macro ratios are slightly inaccurate because I did not purchase the gold version. Net carbs, from which you get calories, are not included in the breakdown for free. Because of this the carbs are not calculated entirely correctly which is not great if a person is on a keto diet that cannot have wiggle room- you constantly would have to recalculate otherwise a person would think they are over in there carb intake. If looks like they count some fiber towards calories. I am irked because it just doesn’t seem to give you an entirely correct macro breakdown. I have wiggle room so I don’t care so much if it is a close approximation.

I really like this app.... but had to delete it. I downloaded a bunch of calorie trackers to test them side by side, and I think My Plate is one of the best. I love that it has a verified badge next to items when you search, because I feel overwhelmed by the amount of choices/repeats in most other calorie trackers. The layout is easy to use and the ads are unintrusive in the free version. However, the chat/forum that I thought would be helpful to me is absolutely overrun with 14 & 15 year old girls who are trying to get from 112 to 109. Girls.... live your life and stop starving yourself. It was so depressing to read and amounted to about every other post as far as I could see. The community was great about telling them to cut it out but it didn’t seem to help. I had to delete the app off my phone because I couldn’t handle it. My advice to the developers is to ban teenagers off this app- most teens do not need to be dieting, and if they do for health reasons it should be with the help of a doctor, not an app.

Defaulting units to “serving” in subsequent recordings is a major flaw. Overall this app works well, save for a single flaw that is bad enough to make me switch to a different calorie counting app. The list of foods is extensive (if a little difficult to search sometimes) but the problem occurs when you try to record something you've already recorded. When you first record a food you’re given a variety of options to declare how much you consumed (a serving, X cups, Y grams, etc.). But subsequent records only give you the option for the unit “serving”, and the unit for serving is given. But it’s not always reasonable to measure things by the default unit. For instance, I added 1/2 cup of walnuts to a salad, and the next day ate about 10g of walnuts (i.e. about 5 walnut halves) as a snack. Because I had already recorded walnuts I had no option other than to record my calories as a fraction of a cup. Why? Clearly there are multiple measurement units available for most foods during the first recording, so why take those options away for subsequent recordings. I want to keep using this app, but this issue is just too frustrating, especially when there are so many alternative calorie counter apps out there.

Easy! Very encouraging!. This is a very comprehensive app listing nutrition, water, weight, exercise and daily comparisons! Easy to use! Love how it gently reminds you to log in meals. Has nearly every food listed! Love how we can see calories /weight/ exercise/ water etc by day and totals compared. Do wish it had more brand name foods but it has enough to find something similar. The ONLY negative is many similar items are listed as anyone can enter anything. And we can’t really trust all those entries in calories since they rarely ever match each other. Suggest: Can you block an entry that is same as other database entries by name and size? And can you require users enter a quantity / size for items they enter? Sooo many user entries show “ 1 portion ” as the size but don’t say How Big that portion is!?? Or they say “1 slice”....they don’t say how big is the slice? I see many listing a burger size as “1 burger”?? How big is that? Sizes can be from 3 oz to 16 oz!? Those entries are useless. But do love how we can enter something unique that we don’t see listed...just need details so others can use those too. Thx for a comprehensive app!

By far one of the most useful apps I have on my phone!!!. So I’m starting a calorie deficit to try and lose some weight and this app is perfect for calculating calories. I’m also trying to stick to a 50:30:20 meal plan when it comes to carbs, proteins, and fats. It gives me a percentage of each for every meal I have and a total at the end of the day. I can enter my calorie goal and it will tell me how many calories I have left for each day. It also has other features I didn’t even know I needed but now rely on, like different articles addressing an assortment of nutritional topics or an entire meal plan where is gives you healthy recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. By far my favorite health & nutrition app I’ve ever used. I’ve tried MyFitnessPal, Noom, Weight Watchers, and MyPlate is by far my favorite and most useful. It also has little to no ad interferences so I’m never interrupted by them! Overall, 100% recommend it to anyone who wants to keep track of their calories and nutrition!

It’s a great app, but calorie count changed.. I really like this app, it has helped me lose 30 pounds just by portion control in helping me know exactly (approximately) how many calories I’ve eaten. However, in the past month it seems that the count in calories burned has changed. Before, 10,000 steps walked would show that it burned about 635 calories. Now, 10,000 steps shows that about 1100 calories have been burned. Why such a drastic change? I believe that such a significant change like that will negatively impact my ability to track calories in vs. calories burned. After the above review, the developer contacted me and informed me that due to an iOS update, I was tracking calories from multiple sources on my phone (MyPlate app & Apple health app). The developer advised me on how to correct that problem and I am happy to report that my calorie count seems to have returned back to the way it originally was. Increased star rating from 3 to a 5.

Best free calorie tracking app by far. I haven’t tried any of the paid features, but even the free options allow me to track both meals & water, which is more than most other free apps I downloaded. The design is simple and makes sense. I also participate in a meal kit service which supplies nutritional facts for each meal; this app makes it easy to enter those facts and track and chart those calories & macros. No better free app for this - I checked all the apps recommended by Apple HealthKit. Apps that looked slightly better usually had a cost for the app itself, and/ or anywhere from $10-$40 monthly fee. At $10 for a single month, $5/mo for 6 months, or $3.75/mo for a year, the Gold membership may well be worth it. Having so many free resources in an app is really heartening; I might upgrade to gold just to support this app & it’s developers. Thank you.

Best Friend. Very useful, this helped right from the start when I had no idea how to work out my calorie intake in order to lose weight. So handy to have it do the adding for you, just takes a little time to input the foods you eat regularly.

Love it!. I I think this is great and easy way to count all your calories from your every day life. It also motivates you to eat less and exercise more because you see exactly how much you've done for your body so far. This is a great app :)

Handy and simple. Makes it easy to track your weight, input and exercise. Keeps you accountable so that you stay on track with your goals. Sometimes some foods are difficult to find in the database but generally it is by good and the option to add custom foods and exercises alleviates this. Freezes occasionally, but generally very good. 4 stars

Easy to use!. This app is helping me be more aware of what I eat and as a result I'm starting to shed a bit of extra weight I'm trying to lose. It has a good database of foods and its great that it tracks exercise too. I have a couple of bugs in it occasionally where it doesn't tally the calories correctly but overall it's been a really great tool.

Barcodes not registering local. Not sure if this is just an Australian thing, but doesn’t recognise barcodes of Woolworths products. Going back to old app😞

A really good app for people whether they are overweight or not. This is a very good weight and diet tracking app. Much better (and free) than most other apps I've tried. I'm not overweight, but I want to see how many calories I have each day, so this is very good. A few more foods to choose from would be good, as it took me a while to find my favorite cereal, and if you didn't need to be connected to the Internet to use it, I would definitely give it 5 stars. 😃

Barcode Scanner Abysmal. Hi there, I'm changing my eating habits and been on the hunt for apps to aid in motivation and progress. From my limited experience with this app, it has everything I need. However I've tried the barcode scanner on multiple items and it either doesn't do anything or repeatedly bounces a square over the barcode in question. I'm using iOS 8 on an iPad mini with Retina Display. Does it work on Australian foods? Another app, MyFitnessPal almost comes close to my needs and the barcode scanner worked first go and many other times I tried. If you can fix whatever the issue is I'd be greatful and surely do the in app purchase. Thankyou! :)

Great!. Has almost all foods, and accurate nutrition. Easy to use, especially when I need to know the percentage of Protein/ carbs and fats. Good for bodybuilders wanting to hit daily protein/ carb ratio. Exercise calculator is very accurate some other apps have no idea what "lifting weights" converts into calories burned. This is a great guide and help!

Didn’t like it.. It doesn’t allow you to create your own meal, eg a breakfast of 2 pieces of shortcut bacon, 1 tomato, 1 egg and steamed spinach is nowhere in their list, and I couldn’t add it. For me, this app was useless.

Super easy to use! Have been using this for years now. Super easy to use! Have been using this for years now

Best app ever!. Simple and quick to use! I wonderful way to become mindful of what you eat....even if you don't want to lose weight! Use this app and you will be surprised at how many little unhealthy things you eat without even thinking and how they add up!

:). This is actually a really helpful app, and one of the better calorie tracker apps that I've used. However the scanning system doesn't really work for countries outside of America I'm guessing. Because Australian products are unreadable for the scanner, making accurate calorie tracking a little bit more tricky. Though it is a very good as it tracks your weight as well as calories and keeps score of your BMI.

Not for Australia. Go to log first meal, I had a 200g Steak for dinner and i could only select upto a maximum of 100g or 100 pounds, 100 Ounces or servings! I immediately uninstalled the app poor American Imperial System Focused App ... Get Metric

can't change to kJ. another very American app with imperial units

Needs some minor fixes. This app would be 5 star except for the fact that when you put in your own food entries it changes them so the next time you go to enter that food item the calories are all wrong. Eg, if 1 serving of banana is 100g/99 calories and I eat 2 servings, it goes in as 198 calories. The next time I go to enter a serving of banana (still 100g) and all of a sudden, 1 serving is 198 calories, not 99. This is such a pain! Now to prevent it from messing up all my hard work I have to make sure I have data disabled for this app which is a pain because if you forget and use this app while your wifi is on it changes all your entries still. Can you please fix this so the app doesn't change your manual entries? Please please please!

Great app to keep track of diet. This app is very easy to use and keep a log of your food intake. I'm not sure that the calories used is accurate. It I am not using a watch so that could help. The weight comparison over time is a great display.

Not seamless for Australians. I really like this app overall however it’s not seamless for Australian residents using it. The majority of foods are not found through barcode scanning or searching which requires details from the nutritional panel to be added.

My plate app. I love the app but unfortunately the bar scanner doesn’t seem to work in Australia

Great App But...... The Exercise cannot be edited and beware that although you may choose half an hour of an Activity, the Activity will show the full hour. That said, it’s not difficult adding a new Exercise in timed increments that best suit you. If you are on your own the bed changing may take 15 minutes, however, if you’ve a family of 4 then that Activity is going to take far longer than 1 bed. I’m happy with it although I wish there were foods more to Australia’s supermarket stocks & not the US. And again, although it’s easy enough to ‘Add’ those foods it does become, at times, a bit of a hit-and-miss. In Oz we often have a far wider selection of Apples, for instance. Plus it’s a pain entering every single piece of Aussie foods. I do feel this App relies heavily on the User to ‘add’ rather than being researched and added by the App owner/s or Developers. A little fine tuning is what’s required.

Can’t create New Food. When I create new food it comes up as the information is not in correct format and doesn’t create one.

Yes I like this app. I have never counted calories before but I need to lose weight and this app lets me know how much I’m eating. It’s fun 🍓Update:- unfortunately most of the foods are American. And I’m surprise how hard it is to find calorie info eg serve of 6 (Sydney rock) oysters! Or sushi. There’s a lot of calorie info on brands (American) but little on simple whole fresh foods.

Sync issues?. Following up on my previous review below, it appears that weight value gets corrupted all the time, and that blows all the calories reading out of proportion, as they surely are calculated based on weight. If the app got access to the Health app, then ALL your calories reading are unreal! There are some funny things are going on. Since synchronised between iPad and iPhone my weight jumped to 200kg, but now got even to about 2000kg. Burnt calories the same about 8000cal, impressive. There is somewhere a sync problem between devices (via your server), or/and looping data when exchanging with iPhone Health resources. Would you like to take a look?

Changes your perspective. I've always been unsuccessfully trying to lose weight until I downloaded this app. The weight is basically falling off and I have never truly understood HOW to correctly lose weight until I downloaded it. It shows the exact amount of calories, and it adjusts your daily calorie intake in order to lose your desired amount of weight per week. Get this app!

Excellent app. I have now had this app for 3 days and I'm so happy with it as it helps me keep track of my calorie goal on daily basis. It's easy to follow I will definitely be keeping it for long term and will highly recommend it to family and friends live strong calorie count has giving me the freedom to eat what I want within my calorie goal😋

Excellent app!. This is a great tool for helping stay on track, whatever your healthy eating goals. I have lost 10kgs (22lbs) and this is helping me get the last bit of extra weight off. Calorie count is excellent, the weight chart is a great motivator although sometimes the lines and the numbers don't quite add up...but it is still very helpful. Will definitely upgrade. Thanks!

Not functional. There is a "barcode scanning" feature within this app, it used to work well, before it was updated, but I just scanned half of my cupboard and it didn't recognise ANYTHING!!! Even popular brands like KRAFT, Cadbury, A2 milk etc - nothing, it's difficult to add information into the "create your own food" section because it's so fiddly and asks for information that isn't included on many of the packets for common household things - unhelpful and frustrating

Good, but room for improvement. This app is great for counting calories but unfortunately requires me to manually input most of my foods (since the search reveals limited options). If the app allowed people to take photos (photos of food cannot be taken by users) and then input the information for a product (eg Cheerios) it would be much more usable - This information could be then added to the livestrong database for others to use.

Barcode doesn’t work on products in Australia. The only useful thing this app does in Australia is track water

Has potential but also has bugs. The setup process was ok as far as onboarding goes. Typing in the search field for food would constantly make the “subscribe” view appear to the point where I couldn’t search for any foods to add. Every character entered would make the subscribe view appear. Not a great experience for a first time user. If you have a QA, might want to check what tests they’re doing before signing off on the production build.

easy to use, close enough. Yeah it's works best out of the others, but it shouldn't be something you swear by because just because you select 'yoghurt' the nutritional value isn't the same. Same for exercise, it can't really be true for how your body works, but it's a great app to just get a general idea of where you need to change and plus entering in all your food intake helps stop unnecessary snacking!

Brilliant. This fitness app is great, it really gives you a visual on your eating and health. This app has made me truly think of what I put in my system. I do 40 minutes of jogging daily, and I am motivated even more knowing that I can track how much calories I have consumed and burned. However, I believe this app could be updated, to ask the user how many minutes or hours of exercise they have done today, whether it is cardio or weights, this app needs more questions to simply show 99% results.

Exercise regime unsuitable. Very disappointed at the exclusive exercises offered. They’re best done by svelte 30 somethings who don’t need to lose any weight. Very disappointing

Negative areas. When you go to select what food you have just eaten it is not very specific. There are no photos so you don't know which one is the one you actually ate, giving you different results. And If you had homemade food there is no option for that unless you know the Serving information. (which most people don't) Besides the few negatives MyPlate helps you track your weight and physical activity. It could be even better if they could find a solution to the problem I stated and if they give you advice along the way according to your progress.

Calorie Counter. I don’t rate the calorie counter as in exercise . You can’t edit it, I accidentally tapped on it and it doubled my exercise calories in the end I just gave up on the whole day

Needs kilojoules. Aussie here. It always surprises me that developers go into such detail and leave out something as simple as being able to use kilojoules instead of calories.

App. Like the app but there is not enough branded items as in calorie counter

Pretty Easy to use, but why so expensive. I'd been using another app, till a friend put me on to you! I love it. I hate the ads. I would buy the app but simply cannot afford to. I understand my health is important, but when you're skint, things take priority! Looking forward to seeing a poor man's Full Version! 😊👍

Great app. I love using this app as I’m a teen always worried about my body image and this app along with my Fitbit helps me realise that I’m eating what I’m meant to be eating and that my body is healthy.

Great to track vitamin & mineral intake. I’ve a much better view of what I need and how I can help support my body knowing the nutritional breakdown of my food since using this App.

User friendly. Quite simple to use. Just have to be careful of member added calorie counts to be accurate. Wish I never browsed the community blogs. Some comments are ridiculous and sounds like they live on the chit chat. I'm not doing the community thing again . But all else fine and keeps me on track

Easy. I have tried a few of these apps, and even though it does not have a setting for Australian Kj, most of the products we have can be found easily. It remembers your frequently added foods or you can create your meals from core ingredients. I also found the workout section fantastic. The video does the exercises with you and times you as you progress. I will keep using this app, and I can not wait to see how the watch section works. K

Just what I wanted. I needed an app that I could input food and it would record the protein, carbs & fats for an all up calorie count - it's a good prompt to eat a particular food - the choice to pick from in the foods is endless - great app plenty of info - recommended to my family and friends

Not great!. Does not recognise the barcodes on too many common food brands. Annoying!

GRAMS!. This app would be so much better if you could measure food out by the gram!!!! This is the only thing stopping me from using this app... Super frustrating.

Perfect. exactly what i.needed, just need to track my macros and a premium subscription isnt needed.

Not Tailored to Personal Needs. When I set up the app I selected that I wanted to GAIN weight, yet the notifications I receive are hints on low calorie foods. The ‘personalised’ meal plans provided everyday do not even equate to half of my recommended daily calorie intake, so what are these recommendations even based on? The app is easy to use (even though you cannot edit/remove exercises) but for these reasons I have to change apps to something more suitable.

Unreliable. This app has a lot of bugs that means you can’t count on your data being there. I’ve had a number of occasions when I log in and find my data is gone. It’s the reason I’m not going to upgrade to a paid level. If they can’t deliver a reliable experience at the basic level, I have no confidence in other levels. When it works it’s great but the constant data bugs really impact quality and trust I have in this product.

Please fix!!. Will rate five if this gets fixed! After 1 day of using i cant search for any new foods, wont load or present any information other than ones i have already done!!

Not good for Australian users. Barcode does not work on Aus items. Food measurements are in ounces. Does me head in!

Helping Me So Much!. I was trying to gain weight for so long and finally I found a great and healthy way to do it! I really love the progress bar because I am a very visual person and it gives me great insight into how many calories I have left.

So happy!. I am so happy I made the decision to go with this app to track my goals!! It is so user friendly and the cost is so worth it! Especially for folks who maybe can’t afford much! Thanks for being awesome! Can’t wait to crush my goals with this great app!

Best Calorie Counting App. To lose weight, you need to count the amount of calories one intakes minus the calories one expels through exercise, daily movement, etc. This app allows you to track those numbers…

Good app but…. I like the app for counting calories but I don’t like the the pre-set amounts. I prefer to put how much I have of each item then being told how much. For example, this morning I will have 1/2 cup of Greek yogurt but in the list there are only options for 3/4 cup or higher. Why can’t it just be left up to the user to put the amount.

Cannot change measurement units on foods!!. It does not allow to change measurements, it’s not ideal to measure shredded cheese in cups. and if i change it to grams, macros are still measured in cups. terrible. PLEASE FIX. other than that the app would be perfect

Disappointing. Overall it’s a good app and helps with a lot actually but even though it lets you untrack food but doesn’t let you untrack exercises. Hope they fix that

good app but has issues. i got this app a bit over two years ago and it was working great then. then i went off dieting and like a year and a half ago i came back, but every single time in the past year and a half that i’ve tried to do the meal plan it says that i Can’t Register At This Time. no other review seems to be having this problem so maybe it’s just me but please help ? it’d also be great if we could enter how much of a food we had. maybe i only had half an apple or a half-cup of cereal but i can’t put that into the log. only full measurements or whatever else. i love the concept but i see why i haven’t really come back to this app

Food. Great tool

Notes please,??. One of the best apps I have used, very simple and the free version has a ton of foods to look up and or create, along with creating whole meals is great. The only thing missing is a section for notes….other than that it is a great app.

It’s got everything!. Not only does it help you track your food effectively, there are so many features that make it so much better. From barcode scanning to having recipes and workouts! Great app!

Recommended!. Great app easy to use, their not trying to rip you off, you get more then enough for free!

The barcode scanner is faulty. Every time I go to scan an item from my fridge that has a barcode it just tells me that the barcode cannot be read and then I have to search up the food… I thought it might be because of the specific food or brand . but it happens WITH EVERY BAR CODE

healthy eating. i like this app a lot but i wish it wouldnt always assume my goal is weight loss because it isnt. 1200-1400 cals is recommended for toddlers and many women under eat so i think it’s important to not push loosing weight.

Limited To People With Certain Diets. I have to do a special diet because of multiple organ issues. Unfortunately this app forces you to use a set amount of % for Protein, Carbs and Fats so unfortunately I cannot customize it to help me. It seems like a good app but does not seem to take into consideration certain restrictions. Also it sadly does not keep track of intake for things like potassium.

Great app. I am really enjoying this app! I wish it had a place to put daily notes in. Reactions to foods and so on. Please make something like this.

Great App,. Great app! Lov the scan option and the steps all integrated into one reliable app. Would be excellent if u could erase data and restart ......

So so. I’ve been using it for a month. I love the lay out I love the use ability, the features are fantastic the synchronization to my Apple Watch and automatically tracking my negative calories is fantastic. However sometimes it won’t let me add food and it sits and loads forever then crashes. Love the app and hate my fitness pal app so I’d love if this could be fixed.

Great app for entering data…just don’t plan on getting it out. It is one of the best apps I have seen for recording your meals and basic nutritional information from your foods. Unfortunately once the data is in there there is virtually nothing you can do with it. It should be possible to export a report of what you have eaten to a text or pdf file to show your MD. Currently I have to use a second app to write down what I am eating to be able to share with my doctor.

Awesome. Just wish it would break out “fats” into good and bad - olive oil - good, avocados - good. Not lump all fats into one category - aside from saturated. Other than that I really like it. The amount of foods in it is great and I love the scanning - however I have noticed some foods don’t come up exactly like the label of the item scanned. Have recommended I have recommended it to other friends. I have heart disease and find it useful.

Better than Myfitpal x20. Been looking to replace myfitpal.. cause honestly i never liked it that much and always stopped using it. MyPlate is everything i wanted Myfitpal to be and better. 👍👍🙏 However, id like to customize my calories on a day to day basis. I dont like how i cant change this because my calories are always different

5 star strongly recommend!. It’s easy to use, doesn’t force you to buy a paid membership and the barcode scanning feature is very useful.

Best meal tracking app. This one is the best; you can adjust the amount by 1/4, 1/3 and so on to ensure you have the correct intake amount. All the foods and brands I need are in there, I can measure my intake levels of protein, fibre, carbs, water. It's really helped me to decipher which foods are irritating my digestion.

My Plate. Very easy to use once you get used to it. A good reality check on portions. Keeps me from eating at night.

Measurements are an absolute mess. Measurements are nonsensical. Nutrition data are too often false or contradictory. I can’t find a way to edit it without having to create a new food item altogether. PLEASE GET RID OF NON METRIC MEASUREMENTS: THEY ARE USELESS FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD OUTSIDE OF USA.

Developer doesn’t seem to test for glaring bugs. Latest update as of this review date introduced new bug where if I try to track vitamin supplements by searching for them and tapping a search hit causes app to crash immediately. Also now when I tap a saved “meal” it asks EVERY TIME if I want to track it as individual items or one grouped item, adding extra unnecessary interactions to the process, completely unnecessary UX degradation

THIS APP DOES NOT SYNC BETWEEN DEVICES!!!!. Even after paying for “prime”, and contacting customer service …. It still does not sync. It is an OK app beside “My Fitness Pal”. You can track nearly as much info, will not have nearly as extensive a food library. It is easy to enter / create new foods meals … would be lovely if that could be done with the big buttons on my iPad and have that translate to my phone but alas!! And no, their “forced sync” function is merely a pretty button that does nothing. Hello developers!

Easy to use! Has lots of food options!. Really great app for what you get for free. Especially the Stronger Meal Plan! A grocery list and recipes each week? Amazing! And the fact the app has so many foods logged into its base means I can find every brand of what I eat. And there’s the option to add your own foods which is great since I do a lot of homeade baking. I also love that you can cut your serving size into very particular amounts (e.g. 1/2, 1/3, etc.) Definitely recommend this app!

Fantastic app with one big problem. The app is well designed and has an extensive library of foods which makes tracking calories and nutrition a breeze. Overall, it’s a 5 star app…. until you look at the privacy disclosure. I can understand for free users, advertising is used to cover the costs and privacy is the price you pay but even users that pay the hefty annual fee don’t benefit from a different privacy policy. They collect and sell far too much and it is the only reason I keep looking for an alternative.

Enjoyed the App. I use MyPlate everyday to track my food and calories. I love the app as it is very convenient to add food and customize it! Abosolutely love it!

Great, but need more options for measuring in grams!. As the title says, I wish more things were in grams, or that the app automatically converts food items from oz to g where applicable. I had to Google how much my chicken breast is in oz from g and it’s quite frustrating. I’ve had to do this for a few other items as well, but otherwise, this is a pretty great application.

Search is terrible. Search is terrible and often returns results in Spanish. Most measurements are not in metric. Rest of the app is good

It is really not useful. Cannot track vitamins and minerals, only macro nutrients like protein fat carbs… not useful for me at all. I am disappointed really.

Good app but I’ve found a problem. There is no way to delete exercises from your if you accidentally click a exercise and it just stays there adding to your calories left

Forget the other apps, this one of ELITE!. I’ve tried many calorie tracking apps, and the large majority bait you into setting up all your information before asking for a ridiculous subscription cost, MyPlate however, is totally free for the necessary features, it’s by far the easiest to use also. Recommended to anyone with any goal in mind! Thank you for developing this app, it has made my dieting super easy.

Simple. It’s easy, use it and lose it!

Wow. Great app

It’s great. Such a great app for chasing your calories!

You can’t edit exercise. Great calorie counting app! Only problem is you can’t edit exercise and I hope this gets fixed!!

Amazing app. I just wish it would let me track by grams and other measurements otherwise it’s great!

The depressing ads are driving me away. I have used this app for years, sometimes with a paid subscription, however recently I just can’t take the ads and am going to look for something else that has a more positive vibe and less privacy concerns.

Hiding Daily Macros Behind Subscription. Just like MyFitness Pal, this app hides an incredibly basic, fundamental feature - macronutrient tracking, behind the subscription wall but doesn’t tell you until you create an account. They don’t tell you this until after you sign up. If I’d had known, I never would have downloaded it. They then package the macro feature with a ton of other stuff I’d never use. Nonsense.

Excellent.. App works as expected. Excellent for health and fitness minded people. I recommend it highly.

Loose weight. Easy to use, also tried a couple of recipes. Thank you, working for me.

Exactly what I needed!. Have lost 25lbs in the past 6 weeks and this app has been a huge part of that success! I have a ways to go- but I know I'll be using this app to help get me to my goal.

CHARGED ME WITHOUT KNOWING. I guess when I used this app in the past it didn’t cost anything. So, when I went to re download it I did not see the price, just the little cloud to re download. I was not aware or the cost and if I did I definitely wouldn’t have purchased it. I truly don’t understand how I was charged without being made aware!

i really like it. you can search up certain foods in the app or add your own, you can track your calories super easy:)

Seems like a great app only 1 thing missing for me. Love that you can track macros on the free version. Only downfall that I’ve found is I haven’t found a way to import a URL of a recipe so I don’t have to manually input every ingredient.

Feature. Although you can remove an accidental food count you can’t remove an accidental exercise count accidentally imputed. I hope this feature is improved.

Weight tracking gone?. Been using the app for a month and a half to track my calorie and weight loss progress but I think since the last update, the graph for weight loss/gain has been removed? It only shows overall calorie intake over time. Please bring it back as it’s useful to see if there’s any result to my caloric restriction.

Great app!. I use the app everyday. Wish I could afford the full app but what I use now is sufficient.

Great App. I really like this app it’s very good at helping me track my calories and macros. I also really like the fact I can create my own custom meals. The only thing I’d recommend is to improve the measuring feature. I tried to add chicken breast and the only options were specific units of grams or ounces. I’d prefer to be able to put a custom amount. Overall I’ll continue to use this app. 👍

Thank you for being faithful. I used to use my fitness pal for years. But I tried this one out on and off as well back then they didn’t have as many options as my fitness pal which is why I stopped using it but now that MFP has gotten greedy and the app is virtually unusable unless you wanna pay like an arm and leg. so I decided to give this one a try. It is SOOOOO MUCH BETTER then then I last remember. So many added features and I love the fact that it has recipes for the calories you have left. On top of that the paid subscription actually sounds worth it and I may try it once I can stay on track a little better but that’s just based on my own level of dedication. If you are looking for new place to call home after MFP, this is your app. This app is literally better in every way.

Calories Burned Seem Wrong. Edit: Updating this from 3 to 4 stars. Got some feedback from the developer which solved my issue. I'll keep using this one to see if I like it in the long run. Definitely worth the switch from MyFitness Pal. I tried this out because I was tired of MyFitnessPal - the app became difficult to use, loss of features on free version, ads were a nightmare. This app is so much easier, but I notice when I track my activity it tracks both watch activity and steps from my phone. It also counts the "move" calories from my watch, which is a culmination of active and non-active calories burned. I feel like it exaggerates my activity so it the net calorie allotment is too high, so I'm not sure the app is really helping me the way MyFitnessPal was.

Great app if your serous. I’m not new to fitness and diet. I have been training and counting macros for over 10years. I’ve also set up meal plans and gotten great results but now I’m trying the Keto diet. I wasn’t use to eating so much fat I I needed an app to count my macros for me and check percentages so I can make sure I’m eating enough fat and not going over on my protein. I two weeks I’ve lost 4lb which weight loss was not my intention when starting this diet but I can say that all the weight I’ve lost have been water and fat. I’ve seen an incredible amount of definition around my lower stomach and lower back. This app has made it very easy for me to follow my diet and I’ll make it easy for anyone else trying to follow a diet regardless of what kind of diet they want to follow.

Frustrating. This app is highly refined, very clear in design and presentation, but, I find it functionally useless. In stead of recipes that I can build then log servings, I have to disaggregate every meal and parse out ingredient amounts by servings. If I need to edit a meal, that is next to impossible as the “edit” link in the meal is so small, I can’t activate it to make changes. When setting up my physical characteristics, it pulled in Health Kit information, but on the main tracking page it displayed an incorrect weight. I would truly like to use this app. I like what it does, I like the way it presents information, but it just doesn’t allow for effective use and the information isn’t always correct. So far, the organization hasn’t compromised personally identifiable information and that’s a plus. But if I can’t use critical functions because my fingers aren’t the size of a three year olds, then it won’t work for me. I’ll try again in a couple of months and see if any positive changes have been made.

Skinnyyy. I’m 5’6 female and I was 178 lbs (I’m 16) when I downloaded the app. I decided that enough was enough wishing to lose weight won’t make it happen.. I started logging my calories on this app and tracking my fitness using my Apple Watch that conveniently pairs to the app and deducts the burned calories from my total. By the end of the day i end up consuming somewhere between 1200 and 1500 calories. I chose the 1200 calorie plan and have been losing a pound every 2-3 days. I actively workout, I’m an amateur kickboxer and work out frequently. At the end of the day I’m usually left with thousands of calories to eat but I don’t eat unless I’m actually hungry. I gained weight prior because I was barely working out and consumed around 3000 calories per day because I was “bored eating”.... overall 10/10 best app ever!! Logging calories is the way to go!

Meals need portion option. I really love the interface of this app and that it includes a water tracker (would love reminders to drink water throughout the day). However, finding this almost unusable because I can’t add a recipe and then choose my portion size. How am I supposed to know what portion I’m eating of every ingredient that I put into a recipe without doing a bunch of time consuming calculations outside of the app? It’s another app that feels more appropriate for packaged foods, which I don’t eat because generally they’re not healthy (kinda defeats the purpose right?) I also don’t love when I add a meal that it puts each individual ingredient in my list for the day rather than just saying the meal that I ate. I’m not really sure what the point of the meal tab is if it doesn’t allow you to calculate portion size or place the name of that meal in your list of eaten foods. With this addition this app would be 5 stars, without it I probably won’t be using it.

Best calorie tracking app by far. I’ve never liked calorie counting apps, and they always made my experience with calorie counting negative. After trying some diets that ended up being too restrictive (like keto) or that weren’t restrictive enough (just trying to eat healthier), and I could never lose weight or keep it off if I did. I knew that counting calories would be the only way to go, realistically, so I decided to try MyPlate. I’ve been using it for two weeks now, and I LOVE it. It’s so easy, I love the design, and I love love love the fact that it’s linked to my Apple Watch. Without even inputting my workouts, I can go to the app after the gym and see how much my calorie budget for the day grew. It’s extremely motivating to me, and I can’t wait to keep using the app. Finally!!

I LOVE this App…Well, Almost. I would love this app even more if there were a way to choose favorite meals/snacks and create a daily menu based on those favorites as I am a creature of habit and generally eat the same things with little variation. I have scrolled between weeks looking for 5 B/L/D meals each and 5 snacks I would actually eat. I like variety but would mostly eat the same meals to make my life easier. It also makes meal preps way easier. The problem is that the macros don’t always add up correctly. Is there any way to create an algorithm that gives you available or recommended meals based on the macros you’ve already consumed or for it to tell you that you will exceed your macros to deter you from going over…to include sugar. I didn’t realize I was consuming more sugar than I should until I started clicking on the smaller info buttons. I also wish it incorporated an intermittent fasting tracker. I currently use 2 apps. The other issue is that the recipes don’t specify a particular brand of food that meets the macro and calorie as shown in the meal plan. Ex: Protein Waffle (which waffle brand are we talking about? I ended up going with Kodiak cakes but can’t use the “I ate this” button because the macros are diff than the recipe. So I scan or input EVERYTHING. Very time consuming.

I have used this app for years (livestrong). I can’t say enough good about this app. I’ve used it since the wee beginning and still love it today! God at least 10+ years or more! I’m thinking 2008? My daughter is in school to be a dietician and this app is what they use in school and she said it’s backed by dieticians….. sooo it explains the high quality. To be able to look at the actual nutrients you’re getting from foods is phenomenal. I love that you can scan bar codes as well making input the easiest. I love that it connects to my watch and takes into account the amount of calories I’ve burned for the day! I am going to participate in the meal plan thing. Wish me luck! Btw If you want full access to everything. It’s only 45$/yr. That’s minuscule compared to these other companies out here. My only hope would be to be able on that meal plan to punch in more allergies. I have big issues with dairy proteins/whey etc and gluten allergy and many more!! . If I could do vegan/gluten free it covers ALL my allergies. Anyhow thanks for creating such a good app all these years including the one on the web from live strong. Sincerely Tracy RN BSN

Create a Meal is not helpful.. The overall interfacing of this app is good: better than MyFitnessPal, but a step behind Noom’s (which, by the way, has terrible, horrible, no good, very bad customer support, and nonexistent coaching as advertised, so is deleted). Entering database foods is simple, and the home page snapshot layout of your daily data is clean and easy to read. I like the goal setting features, and tracking options here, but am using Pedometer and Happy Scale in conjunction with this app for an added motivational boost. My trifecta! My biggest frustration with this app is the apparent absence of a recipe feature. The app is really geared toward “creating meals,” but a recipe function should really come first. What’s even more frustrating is upon doing a little Google search, I found a 2015 blog explaining how to use the recipe function on MyPlate- photos included. I would love to see the recipe tab reactivated! It would definitely improve the overall experience.

Good program, needs further refinement. Good program and like how it integrates with my mySugr diabetes monitoring program. Just started using this and it seems good. My only comment is that I would like the option to use weight measurements, ounces or grams, instead of just suggested serving sizes in the food tracking portion. Right now in order to make sure I track exactly the amount I’ve eaten, I have to keep guessing at that by continually trying amounts until I find the closest one. Examples are fruits like apples, oranges, etc. they give you a choice o medium medium to one person is small or large to another. I weigh my portions so I know what I’m really eating. The improvement is to give me the ability to use weight measurement and then compute that into suggested portions size. In other words, give the user the option to choose portion sizes or weight measurements in the settings.

The Best Weight Loss App, Period!. Try it, stick to it, and you WILL lose weight. I am pretty fit in general, but occasionally I see my weight creeping up by 6 or 10 lbs and then I use MyPlate. The results are immediate. First days are real easy, 7 days are just a bit harder (but usually have lost 3 lbs or more) and then the longer periods are a bit harder but you begin to know what not to eat. The very best thing about this app is that it will automatically credit you with calories for chores, like mowing the lawn, if you allow it to access data from the Health app. It will also gather fitness data from Strava etc. so there is not much to tediously enter. Of course, exercise is key to weight loss and well being, so do that and the eating part is a LOT easier. Highly recommend this app! Can you tell?

Full five stars. My dad lost 80 lbs using this and for the first time kept them off. Just got diagnosed with fatty liver so I need to loose the weight to avoid complications. I figured if it worked for him I could try it myself. I am a week into using this for portion control along with exercise and I am down 4 lbs this week!!! The ability to eat whatever you want is the key. No morale busting horrible tasting newspaper trimming food. Just control portions of the good stuff. Combine this with iHealth counting steps, and an exercise bike the gives a calorie count, and I have a baseline that lets me eat and if I go over the -2 lb/week calorie count, I know just how long I need to pedal to get back on track. The barcode scan is also a plus for home food prep. Off to get a decent food scale now to aid in portioning. Can’t recommend this app enough.

That’s Better. Update, one day later: The developer contacted me regarding my complaint (below) and told me what I had already figured out. That is, I was able to work around the persistent pop up trying of sell me the Gold version. I closed the app and then reopened it and all was fine. I suppose I was just stuck in a do-loop. Anyway, a day and a half I to using the app, I find it easy and also helpful. Let’s see how I feel about it after a couple weeks. Original review below: I just this morning got this app and so far am pleased with it - the app itself. However every time I have tried to access it this afternoon, for example to add or modify something, it try’s to sell me the Gold version, effectively preventing me from using the free version. I would like to use the free version for more than the 9 hours it has been since I got it before deciding if I want to keep it, let alone pony up for a paid version. Perhaps there’s a way around it but so for I haven’t seen it. Failing that, I guess I have two choices: go for the gold or delete the app and try one of the many other good ones out there. My inclination is to do the latter. Pity. I might actually like this one given the opportunity to try it.

It works kind of. It’s works and has a scanner that they don’t charge for which beats MFP any day of the week IMO. But they charge for a lot of the micro nutrient Info among other things which I find annoying. They also let you track your meals as individual ingredients so if you don’t finish something you can just make that quick adjustment which is nice. The app also has a bug right now where it’s randomly changing my macro numbers. I’ll log something, it’ll show a certain amount of carbs fats and proteins and then when I come back the calories haven’t changed but the macros have adjusted for example today, logged lunch, breakfast and PWO meal, showed 450 carbs. Closed the app came back an hour later to log a snack and my canes down to 380 that’s a huge amount of food to be off by. Unfortunately I’ll have to switch apps, this honestly ruins an other wise mostly good app

Great Tracker but Needs Work. I recently switched to My Plate from Noom because I have a medical condition that requires me to more closely track certain nutrients. Sodium is a big one for me. I like that My Plate sets a sodium limit for the day and shows my progress so I always know how close I am to my daily limit. However, if I customize my sodium limit, the line graph showing progress doesn’t work. Also, the last two days, looking at my daily totals by individual day, it looks like I stayed well under my limits. However, I just looked at the progress for the last week and selected sodium. That view shows that I exceeded the sodium limit the last two days. The mg counts are much higher than they show for each day. I have no idea which is right. I don’t see an option to ask anyone about it. I was so excited when I found that My Plate tracking was so detailed, now I’m worried that it’s not reliable. I hope this gets fixed.

So far, not too impressed. This is only my second day of using this app, and maybe I haven’t figured out how to do everything. However, today I had to actually log in again, and when I did, I found that 500 calories or so worth of food was missing since I entered those items yesterday. I can see what my fat and calorie intake is, and it’s easy to see, but it doesn’t show what my recommended intake should be, so I can’t tell if I’m going over or not. Additionally, yesterday I told it to sync with my fitness app on my phone, and today the option to sync showed up again, and when I clicked it thinking that info was also erased, I ended up with double everything on my phone app. I would like something that isn’t too hard to use to enter food and track calories, but it’s pointless if I’m going to have to re-enter Items every day and try to remember what else I ate the day before.

Best food log, period.. I would had given this application a 4/5 if I did not have an Apple Watch. If you have another tracker, it's okay, the interface with the Apple Watch is superior, in my opinion. I used to use this app with a Fitbit, and this app had a hard time synchronizing and pushing/relieving information. I especially like the barcode scanner that has been added, My Fitness Pal has this app best until recent upgrades. Also, this application is not tied to any tech environment, like my fitness pal, that is tied to under armor and partnered with Fitbit...so it's not clunky. Easy to set meals, create your own meals, and I have a hard time finding things not in the food database. When I do, it takes me about three (3) minutes to add and it's always there....my wife and I have lost a combined total of 73 pounds using this food tracker.

Good. This is a good app. The only thing I would like to see is the ability to add in a list of food I buy without having to add it to breakfast or dinner etc. I would like to have the ability to add my own amounts of whatever I eat and it be calculated for me the amounts of nutrients and calories instead of me having to calculate my servings to add to it. So I would like to scan in food I eat to create a list of my foods and then I would like to not be limited by the measurements I can use because right now I have to do math to figure out how many servings if I want everything to be accurate Otherwise it’s a good app it’s just time consuming to add food in. I would like this list to not disappear but all the foods stay in my list and be changed by how often I eat them. Thanks so much for your response 😁

Few features away from amazing. Love the interface and how appealing it is. Truly makes you want to use the app. Couple suggestions: 1) when entering custom foods, why does the calorie field need to be entered when it could be auto-completed from entering the grams of FCP below? Also why is there a field for calories from fat but not one for the other two carbs and proteins? 2) when entering previous foods, I find it can be kind of slow and tedious (multiple taps) to enter previous foods that reoccur when having the alter the quantity. I wish UX could design a faster way to set the quantity of foods you commonly eat. For example in the row for previous foods, holding down tap on the (+) button could show a context menu for portion amount like 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 2, etc to quickly set.

Amazing app! But... I really enjoy how easy it is to track calories and macros with this app. It’s helped me become so aware of what foods are healthy for me and which aren’t so healthy. I suggest unlinking any device that you have connected (I had my Apple Watch connected) because it gives you unrealistic calorie burn stats that increase your daily caloric intake... for me I just prefer manually inputting any exercise I did. Something else I would add would be the possibility of changing the calories/macros some products have. You can only change the serving size but there are times when it’s inaccurate. You should be able to edit how much calories a food has like on MyFitnessPal. Overall though, I like this layout so much more. It’s helped me lose over 10 lbs in a little over a month!

15 year user (since iPhone 3G) and it's on deathwatch. This app has been fantastic for the many years I used it. It frequently helped me meet my goals including losing 60 lbs a few years ago. It was updated and improved over the years and my data was easily accessible. I was about to start with some new goals yesterday and lo and behold, they are going dark on July 9 (they are shutting down). I'm a bit salty about this because over the years I monetarily supported and even when trying other apps, none really fit my needs. They are claiming I can get all my data, which in my case is 15 years worth but so far they have not responded to my emails after receiving an error message. I'm starting to get worried and I just don't trust them to do the right thing in making an effort to help me get my data. Anyway, even the things you put a lot of trust in can betray you in the end.

Love it! Love it! Love it!. I downloaded this app the summer of my freshman year of college (after the freshman 15 was gained). I became really interested in eating healthy and working out but soon realized I got way to skinny way too fast. I started using this app to make sure that I was staying healthy on my fitness journey and I have not stopped using it since (about 3.5 years). I never needed to purchase the upgrade because the free app had everything I needed. I love the scanner and that it has to option to look up restaurant food as well. Overall amazing app for tracking food but it's much harder to track workouts on the free version. This is fine for me because I'm just using it to make sure that I meet my daily calorie and macronutrient requirements!

Poor customer service. I paid for the extra subscription to gain access to extra features, but realized after that the extra features were oversold by the app. There’s absolutely no reason at all to pay the extra subscription cost. Not only is there nothing original about the nutrition materials you get with the subscription, but the shopping lists are outrageous. Aside from that you really don’t get anything else from the app except access to extra data points, which don’t do anything at all except inform you about what you’ve consumed. Their server went down for several days, and during that time no one was able to log meals unless it was something they had already eaten that was stored in local memory. I inquired about the issue and asked for a refund, and Kali let me know that the server was down but ignored my request for a refund. I replied again to thank her for letting me know about the server and asked for a refund again and that request was ignored. I guess I’ll have to go to the consumer protection agency to get my money back.

App changed my life. My doctor gave me the bad news that my blood pressure was high, my cholesterol was high, was prediabetic, And surprise-surprise... I was overweight. Time to make a change. I started using this app to track my food and get a clear understanding of how I was eating and exercising. Committing to inputting the information was not easy for the first few days but it became a habit. I am down 20% of my original weight and all of the negative information my doctor gave me has been addressed and there’s no longer a problem. My Apple Watch syncs my activity to the app seamlessly and helps me really understand what I’ve been up to and give me motivation to do a little bit better every day. The real change comes with you, the person using the app, but this app unlocked clarity of understanding and discipline that I’ve never had before.

Dan. I am a 68 yowm who used app about 18 moths ago I weighed 272 lbs. I needed surgery for a hernia and was high risk. My goal initially was to lose 15 lbs or surgeon would not move ahead. A UNC nutritionist set me up with this app and diet info. I lost 40 lbs in about 5 months. My Plate gave me amazing info. Almost everything made is in here along with percentages of fat, carbs etc. It helped me target calories for my profile, clocked exercise water intake etc. I used it religiously with amazing results. I learned so much about portions etc as long as you use program and stay in your goals you succeed. Some days you have a miss but if you realize you are in it for a long no need to overreact. 18 months later I have gained about 8 lbs and got back on my app and simply work my plan. I’ve lost 5 lbs week one but know it will avg out 1.5 lbs a week like clockwork . I could not have been successful with out this wonderful tool. After a while you will know from memory what proportions mean and how to make food selections . I love this app and no longer feel like I can’t control my body size. I am a huge advocate!!! Use it and you will succeed. No crazy fad of the week diet. Thanks to whoever built this. 🤗 Dan Chapel Hill NC

Could use a few tweaks. One of the biggest issues I have with this app is once you’ve recorded a food item, you no longer have options of different serving sizes. I.e large banana vs small banana. 1 cup vs 1tbsp. It’s annoying to try and guess what decimal fraction of a serving size would be instead of just letting us continue to choose from the multitude of serving size options that are originally available. I do like that it tracks my calories burned via steps but wonder if it double tracks since there is a line for my iPhone steps and my Apple Watch steps. A better breakdown on the numbers/steps/calories burned would be really helpful for accuracy. I also think it would be nice to have different options for body composition to better determine how many calories each person should be consuming. I.e age, body fat %, pregnant / breastfeeding. Overall I think the app is very user friendly, especially compared to some other calorie trackers. And the database is pretty comprehensive and it’s easy to add whats missing. Although the lack of option to edit “my meals” is kind of annoying. I tweak my recipes pretty often, as do most people. I plan to continue to use the app but don’t fully trust its accuracy.

Lifesaving!. During Cancer and after a serious operation, the. Dietician at the Cancer Hospital asked me to be part of a Clinical Trial using the MyPlate App. I say it was lifesaving because it was. Food is medicine and the best kind! At first it was a pain to input everything I ate, however, after a week, the app remembered regular foods I had input and before I knew it, a habit had developed. Never a day goes by when I’m not thinking about what I eat and make good choices. During chemo, I had to force myself to eat. New recipes would pop up in the app offering new recipe suggestions. I had Stage IV Cancer. Now I am in remission and am focussed on eating clean and exercise. Just upgraded to Gold and excited to fully utilize MyPlate App with new options! This App is a lifesaver!

Amazing! Search engine can be frustrating.. This is the first tracker app my girlfriend and I had fun using. The water tracker is the best part. We do love EVERYTHING! The most frustrating part is the search engine. Sometimes it shows nothing related to the search or takes awhile to scroll to find the item. The add food item on the top has 5 fields to enter a food, which isn’t the same view you get when you scroll down the page and the “can’t find a food? Add it” box appears. This button has all the extra fields for sodium and others. I find this weird and unexpected. To add a food with those fields I have to scroll down to make that option appear? Unless I am missing something. Classic user. Love the app, if the search/add functionality was optimized then I would go gold in a heartbeat! :)

Love it but there’s a big issue. I love this app for the layout, especially over MyFitnessPal, but there is a big issue that will probably force me to delete the app and track my calories a different way. One day I could search for foods to add to my meal and use the scanner to scan whatever item of food it was I used for that meal. The next day when I tried to type in a food to search, it pops up “No Results”. So then I go to use the scanner. That’s not working either. So THEN I try to manually log in my food. I press “Done” and it pops up with another message saying it can’t add that food because it’s not connected to the server. But then if I exit out of that after pressing “Done”, go back to add a food and go to the “My Food” tab, it pops up with the info I typed in, even though it said it couldn’t add it. What??? I’m so confused with it and unfortunately I’m going to delete the app. The layout and idea of it is nice though.

Just got it- already like it!. I used to really enjoy the MyFitnessPal app, BUT I logged in recently after not logging in for some time and noticed their changes and updates are not of interest for me and we’re way out of my price range. The charged service also didn’t seem worth it, especially since the same service used to be free. I can get a Netflix subscription for cheaper than that, which is exactly why I need a diet app in the first place. Anyway, that’s why I went in search of a new diet tracking app and came upon the livestrong app. It seems great so far and the gold membership id actually consider as the price is much more reasonable. The free version is what I was looking for so far, but will let you know if I update it later on. Love that it shows the nutrition information of the diet, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The best out there!!!. Honestly, I thought that if I just ate nothing but healthy food, I would be okay with my weight. I didn’t track macros but ate as much healthy food as I wanted. I started to gain weight and realized that I needed to start tracking my food intake. I tried using a few other apps but when I found this, it beat everything hands down! It’s simple to use, and even though I don’t have the full version (yet), it’s not limited AT ALL like the other apps! I absolutely love it and by tracking my food, I’m more aware of what I put into my body, making me happy😁 The only thing I would change is the caloric intake settings. You cannot go below 1200 calories, and I understand why they have safely limitations, but I wish the lowest setting was 1000 calories🤷🏼‍♀️

Great for macro counters. Counting macros is a challenge. Just trying to figure out what percentage you should have based on your body and life is like trying to remember my college calculus classes. This app does it all for you and it is amazing! We moved abroad to Europe, and finding a routine and healthy eating given all of the new products was really hard. I gained 8-10 pounds and no matter what I did I could not get rid of it. I had a sense that macro proportions were the key, and sure enough...weight is coming off. I use the scanner and the auto populate is magnificent. I exercise heavily and the app adds those calories back, but I’m sticking to the low end of 1200 calories to lose quickly. Definitely worth the premium membership to get at some wonderful recipes full of flavor. Thanks for the best app ever!

Needs more options. So I am trying to be better about what I eat by logging. I really like the format of this app but I’m always finding a battle after a few good working days. I used it for 3 days it logged me out and I tried every password no luck so I tried to reset and it told me I didn’t exist...I tried to email customer support and got no help. So I tried to start all over tells me my email exists already. I ended up using a new email and making a new account all is great (for 2weeks) now there’s no food to be found. I type chicken and get 4 options. I added every combination type to chicken with no luck. I just want to add slow cooked chicken and I can’t. And it couldn’t find rice... chicken and rice is as common as it gets and it can’t find it. 2 weeks ago I found lots of options now I can’t find any. Why? I’m very disappointed because I love the layout and format and I can’t use it. I also made sure it was up to date and it is.

App is pretty great, but can only measure 100 grams of food?. So the app pretty much has everything I want. I like the food selection, make your own food feature, weight tracking, progress view etc, it’s all great. There is 1 problem that is major though (for non US people). The grams parameter in the food serving size is limited to 100. People who use metric (everyone in the world except US) have to convert grams to ounces if a serving you eat is over 100 grams. This is actually a pretty lame limitation, since 100 grams is only 3.5 ounces. The reason I’m using this app in the first place is so I don’t have to calculate and convert calories myself, so having to convert to ounces is inconvenient. The app is otherwise better than all the other apps I’ve tried, so I’m gonna keep using it. But it would literally be perfect without this limitation.

Love the app...but it has stopped working!!. I love the app and have been having some success over the last month. However, I can no longer scan barcodes; it gives me an error message and says to check my connection. I cannot enter food manually; it is saying unable to do this now. I cannot enter exercise that I haven’t done before; it is telling me I’m not logged in. I cannot enter food that I haven’t logged before; it says no options are found. I tried logging in to the website online and am unable to do that either. A friend is having the same problems so I don’t think it’s just me. Is the website/app down? Is there an update pending. As far as I know I didn’t change any settings so I’m not sure why everything has stopped working! Very frustrating!

Like it, but has flaws. Overall, I like the app, but there are two things that could make this better. First, when scanning a barcode on food packaging, the calories have been off on MANY items by 20 calories. It either comes up 20 calories too many or 20 calories too short. Maybe that wouldn’t matter to some, but after awhile that adds up and seriously affects the accuracy of your total calorie intake for the day. The second thing is the limited choices when searching for food and the portion sizes. It’s hard to find what you are looking for and then the portion sizes are usually off for the food you are choosing. It’s all a guessing game. I know nothing is 100% accurate but I feel like some days my calorie total is way off. Hoping some changes are made. I used MyFitnessPal for years and wanted to try something new, but that app has more accurate calorie tracking.

Download it, you won’t regret it. I haven’t upgraded yet, so I’m using the app as is, just the free features. It’s a great app, it makes tracking your food easy af, you can import yesterday’s meal if you repeated it, it breaks down your optimal macros, calculates your caloric needs, etc. Allow push notifications, unlike most apps this reminders work for you and are not annoying. You’ll receive a notification telling you to log your breakfast, lunch or dinner when the time comes if oh haven’t logged it in yet. I’m using it for bulking and so far have gained 10lbs, and using this app has been a huge part of those 10lbs. Tracking your calories and macros helps put everything in perspective and you can see how small steps add up. Download it, give it a try, you won’t regret it

WOW!. I love this app! It’s so easy to use, very organized, and keeps me on track. I love that it breaks all the food down into each part like the fats, carbs and proteins. It has a bar scan reader which is very helpful when eating packaged food. It also lets you build your own meals and you can name them and save them for later use. I also love that it gives you workout exercises and connects to other workout apps (I use Apple Health and Workout for Women) to keep track of calories burned. I have only used this app for a few days but it is one of my favorites. I don’t have the Gold (yet) but even the free version is amazing. It even keeps track of how much water you are drinking. It’s kind of fun and like a game which makes it easier to use :) great app

I highly recommend this but have some pet peeves. I have used this app on and off for years. I love being able to go back and see my history. My foods and meals are saved. I am not sure if recipes I added years ago are there. My frustration with the new version: I see photos of foods under recipes. But I cannot click on them. I went to the recipe page and typed spicy cauliflower wings in the search. Nothing happened. What a teaser! My other frustration: I eat almost no processed foods. When I type in a food, the corporate foods come up first. So I must always be typing in the word homemade, like homemade pasta. Yes we make our own pasta. And I would pay for the gold version if it calculated calcium. As a Medicare adult, I need 1200 units of calcium a day. My bone density is on the borderline. I need to count and don’t want all of it to come from supplements. I bet a lot of women would appreciate this addition for their health.

Accidentally started a diet. Since I became a vegetarian a year ago I realized I need to start tracking my protein so I got this app mainly to track my protein intake and make sure I’m consuming around 40g a day However the more I used it, I began to like sticking to the 1200 calorie budget which I set I can easily scan most of the food I eat and if not I can just enter it in manually. Tracking food usually only takes a few minutes out of my day which makes it simple. I realized how much extra calories I’ve been consuming because if I didn’t have the app I’d snack but once getting it I’m aware of my calorie budget so I stop myself. I believe I may be able to loose weight with this as long as I stick to it! :) I’ll write another update in. A few months to see if it worked.

Thank you so much.. Without this app I don’t think I would’ve lost what I did. I weighed 201lbs at 5”7 about a couple months after quarantine had begun. I tried multiple times to lose weight but I always went back and gained it all. I decided that I needed to do something about it. I researched and most websites said that a good tracker helped a lot of people. I said “ What the heck” and went to the AppStore and searched up food tracker. I downloaded many but basically all except this one made me pay for a bunch of the basic services. When I found this app I told myself I’d try it because it didn’t make me pay to open it lol. Now I weigh 175.7 lbs still at 5”7. Thank you very much! I am going to continue losing until I reach 160lbs. Then I will continue using it to maintain my weight. Thanks a ton!

Thank you.

It works - with dedication. I’ve lost 50 lbs using this app. It took dedication and a commitment to the long haul, but I’ve never been so fit in my life and I can tell that I’ve made lasting lifestyle changes because of this app. I recommend this app to all my friends who want to lose weight and their number one complaint is the time it takes to log food, especially if they cook for themselves. However, the more you use the app, the easier the document what you eat and it really becomes just another part of your daily ritual. As a side note, I suggest logging your weight weekly. It may not feel like you’re making progress day to day, but if you stick with the program it is really encouraging to look back with the progress feature and see how far you have come.

Format is comforting. This is a strange statement, but after using many apps with the "green to red zone" bars, I found myself eating less and over exercising because I hated seeing the bar slowly inch towards the "red zone". This app is so so easy to use and is set up in a way that makes it so that I want to eat what I need to and so that I want to exercise and drink water to swipe on the cup. Creating a nutrition and diet app is a very difficult task because many people with eating disorders or people who are just not in a good state of mind may use the apps to feed into their habits. I feel this app in particular could potentially stop someone from falling into worse habits because of the anxiety. I am very pleased with this app and definitely will be letting family and friends know about it.

Good user-friendly UI and easy calorie counting, BUT scanner needs improvement. I've been using this app for months now (also am good/VIP member) and I can honestly say it's the best out of the calorie counting apps I've tried. The interface is super easy to understand and it makes tracking macros easy as heck! My only issue is that sometimes the barcode scanner for entering food does not pick up the barcode. I'll eat the same protein bar on different days and sometimes the scanner reads it while other days I can tap on the screen to focus the camera a hundred times and it still won't read it. Even with perfect lighting and focus, sometimes it just doesn't read the barcodes. Because of this, I wish there was another option to scan the nutrition facts panel with your camera. It could be implemented under the "my food" tab where you create your own foods. You could name your food, then the scanner would read the text in the nutrition facts and pull the info for calories/fat/carbs/protein and add it automatically. This would work great for barcodes that don't scan for lesser known products as well (a lot of organic weird health food stuff I buy often shows up as "barcode not found"). Just a thought! Thanks for the great app :)

AMAZING weight loss helper!. If you’re thinking of counting your calories this is the app to do it. I NEVER write reviews but I will rave about this one. Even without the paid membership offered with the app, the free entities are worth the app 100%. I have the free version and am able everyday to count my calories easily while including how much water and calories I burned for that day. Even with the monthly bill it offers recipes exercises and much more. Usually I’d go out to a restaurant and eat a meal I had NO clue was almost 2000 calories. This app lets you input your weight, weight GOAL, height ect to give you what your calorie intake goal should be for the day. Incredibly useful and part of my daily routine on a path to losing weight healthily!

Excellent app for anyone!. I’ve been using this app along with multiple other apps for nutrition and health for about two years. This one is by far my favorite and the only one I’ve used for the entirety of that two year span. Now it’s the only one I use. Really good app that is designed well to where you can see your nutrition at a glance easily. My suggestion to the developers: You have the four circle icons at the top for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. Since there are only three icons on the second row, would you all be willing add a fourth called something like “Liquids” for liquid calories? I add those into snacks now, but I would love a separate place to put sodas, protein shakes, dessert drinks, etc. Having separate sections for snacks, liquids with calories, and water would be ideal. Overall, fantastic app.

Easy and effective. This app works because of its simplicity and its persistence. It is easy because I don’t have to look up a bunch of recipes or nutritional values. Most everything I eat is already on a list I select. Even the junk food. It is persistent through reminders that make it almost impossible to ignore. I started by tracking everything I ate without trying to change anything. This gave me a few weeks of data showing all my bad habits. Even after drinking cokes and eating way too much Chick Fil A, I found myself staying under my calorie goal. My calories burned are easy to enter by selecting items from a list such as my favorites — walking the dog and gardening. After establishing a routine of using the app, I started focusing more on the nutrition values. I have only used the basic free version of the app.

Needs More Foods. First off let me say: I love this app. It is by far the best out there with minimal ads, simple interface, and doesn’t hide your macros and protein and whatnot behind a paywall (*cough* MyFitnessPal *cough*) HOWEVER, what really bugs me about the app is it’s database is seriously lacking. Not only do they not have enough brands, but a lot of times a label I will scan will say invalid food and I have to manually input it. Although this isn’t so bad, it is a major annoyance that I think would improve the app drastically. Furthermore, there are some issues with sync. For example, if I’m on my iPad and track calories, a lot of times it won’t sync with my phone even when I force sync it. Other than these 2 things it is a fantastic app and would recommend it to anyone trying to lose weight
