Good features, but frequently disconnects from devices and becomes non-responsive. I would have given this app a far better review — it has many very useful features for an app like this — but the one I use the most, "headphone mode", very frequently does not work correctly. It will more often than mot work for an entire move/episode of a show, but whenever the program ends, it will almost invariably stop working. Switching back to the Roku app will yield only a completely non-responsive remote screen. All other components of the app will be nonfunctional in this state, too. Force-quitting the app and restarting it will *sometimes* fix the issue; more often than not, though, it won't, because the app says it can't find the device it was literally just connected to. This leaves the TV/streaming stick without audio as well, and trying to quit whatever app I am using with the physical Roku remote will result in a black screen, and apparently freezing the system. As Roku is a closed platform, debugging/diagnostic tools are not available, so this necessitates a TV/stick reboot. Obviously, this is not desirable behavior. In fact, it is annoying enough that I actually wrote an app review: as a beta tester for many, many products, I usually don't, because I can privately submit a bug report. Unfortunately, this is not so with Roku; I applied to their beta program eons ago with no response, leaving me no choice but to make this public.

Note To App Developers. Theoretically, a brilliant app. The reality of it is that this app in the year+ that I’ve been using it has upgraded many times, each time seeming to get more and more glitchy...and not really adding anything of great positive change to the app. I’m at the point now where about half the time neither ios device I use is able to connect to my Roku tv and almost always at least one is unable to connect. Yes. I know about unplugging the tv for a few minutes to reset it but it’s rather annoying when I’ve just prepared a meal and I’m sitting down to watch something and have to wait an extra 5 minutes while my food gets cold for the connection to reset. So here’s the message I’d send to the developers: The app, while the other features are cool, is designed to be A REMOTE. If it can’t even be used as a remote then YOU ARE FAILING AS DEVELOPERS OF THIS APP. Forget the extra nonsense until you take care of these bugs preventing us from connecting the remotes to our roku tvs. Thank you.

Very useful overall, still issues. App is super, super useful don’t get me wrong when it’s able to connect properly. I’m definitely the type to lose my remote every five seconds and opt rather to use this app. That being said I have one specific device that it will, no matter doing every troubleshooting step sometimes just not connect, or recognize the device. Everyday multiple times a day I have to completely delete app and redownload for it to recognize the roku TV i have, just think it’s super irritating and wish there was a way to reset the app recognition bcs it’s simply just the apps issue. I connect to my IP I turn on the tv and it just says to wake up the device and i press that and wait forever and it never works says it can’t connect every time until I redownload as I see it a rest and then it magically appears but it never last long. My other tv that is a roku extension just randomly the remote will stop working and I’ll have to unplug it to reset again, just wish there was better easier more straightforward solution for this.

Great app when it decides to work. I mainly use this for when I lose my physical remote or private listening when I want to watch TV, but not wake up housemates. It seems quite frequently it has stopped connecting to my TV saying that my TV may be in “eco mode” and asks me to “wake it up.” My TV is never in “eco mode” and I’m usually in the middle of a show when this happens. The only way I’ve figured out how to get it to recognize my TV again is to completely unplug my TV for about 20 seconds and plug it back in to completely reboot it. Then it usually works, but will often disconnect during the same watching session. It’s very random, too. Sometimes I can go a whole day without this problem. Sometimes I give up and just watch stuff from my phone because I can’t get it to private listen for more than 5 minutes. I have a strong WiFi connection and my bed where I try to private listen from isn’t far from my Roku TV. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed an app before, but this needs to be fixed. I’ve looked at reviews from a year (and longer) ago complaining of the exact same issue. PLEASE GET THIS FIXED, roku developers!

Wonderful idea, glitchy execution. I have Roku on both of my TV’s, one with a plug in and one with it built into the tv. Having two extra remotes is definitely a challenge at times because I am notorious for taking them on walks or losing them. Friends told me about the Roku app and I LOVE the convenience of it, especially when I can’t find my remote. I will say however, even with both TV’s and Roku mechanisms turned on, my app continuously has a hard time “waking the devices” even though they are on and connected. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the app, I have closed out and restarted, even restarting the TVs when it happens. There is truly no rhyme or reason (I’ve done lots of troubleshooting) and sometimes it works just fine with no problems! It’s very very frustrating and I wish I could figure out why this happens so frequently. All in all, minus the connectivity issues, the app is very navigable and is has a simple and easy interface. The set up is also quite easy and can definitely be used by all ages! I will continue to use my app but hope that this soon gets updated! :)

How helpful this remote is. Ever since my remote control stopped working I decided to find a remote for ROKU I have tried many apps and I found this one when I first downloaded this app it helped me control my tv and worked better then my old remote and the app is on my phone so it is more easy to use it 🤯 I used this app about every single day and this is my first review and because I wanted to write one because this app helps people who has a ROKU tv and who lost/broken there remotes and is shows a lot of things you can do and show as your channels and speaker you can communicate with for your tv and is ADD FREE 🤟🏾🤟🏾 this app helps me when I lose or have broken my remote other apps I have downloaded for my tv do not work and barely uses and mostly shows adds this app doesn’t do any of those things and it take its on responsibility to tell you step by step and you can now get used to it

Why I love this app. I love this app because I don’t have to move when I wake up lookin for my control I just grab my phone and there is my control then I find it when I’m awake and I love not having to move out of my bed it’s like having your tv on your phone and don’t start me on that I can watch my. MY tv in my phone I just feel like my tv is in my pocket or in my purse at any time I need it and I feel important for having my tv in my pocket/purse. I just love the quality no hacking no lagging no need of standing up in the mornings anymore and I love how I just can do whatever in this app involving my tv and don’t start me on the tv the tv is the best quality ever EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER Athens best one EVER I don’t know what can be best than this it just needs to not stop being itself don’t change anything to that tv or ima return all the TVs I bought of you because their perfect just like they are that’s my review 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️rating ever EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER there that’s my best review.

Why. When have this app start charging ?? One month it charges me $2.99 && another month it charged me $5.34 . Not sure why it’s charging me but I rather not download an remote app that I would have to pay for . Rather not do && the fact that it’s charging my card that I see no records of on Roku that I filled or even made a purchase on the app is ridiculous. Yes it was a great app before it start charging me. The fact this app still charging me but I have NO ACCOUNT with them but yet they charging my card (unauthorized) . I’ve contact my card company && they told me to contact Roku && haven’t seen where I could contact nor email them or even a toll- free number . This is sad you have people hacking your card just from downloading an app . Never again . Today this app is still trying to charge me the fact I’ve tried to reach out to Roku they still won’t or haven’t solve my problem there’s no number to contact them very unprofessional. Where is the on chat agent

USED to be great. I used to love this app. I mainly used it for the Private listening feature. I would use it all the time with Jabra wireless earbuds to watch movies and would have no problem. However, within the last month , when I connect to watch tv via Private Listening … the sound cuts out. It screeches and drops connectivity. I can’t go five minutes without the sound dropping and when I touch the Private Listening headphone icon to switch it back to tv sound …nothing happens. I tried it with a pair of Bose wireless earbuds and it does the same thing. No problem with the Bluetooth because I can listen to music on my phone via either pair of earbuds with no connectivity issues at all. App will show an error “Your Roku is not online proceed without connection ?” … while I’m literally watching the tv. No streaming issues. I finally tried a pair of wired earbuds …and it worked with no problem. Major issues with Private listening when connected to Bluetooth headphones. Please Fix !

Just another review….. I know, I know. People who say “I don’t usually do this but I had to write a review because it’s so fantabulous” (Fantastic + Fabulous) are slightly annoying. Having said that, I don’t usually do this but…. ROKU is awesome. Not only can you watch free shows but they also group all of your favorite streaming services in one place. My most favorite thing about ROKU is the app on my iPhone! Both my teenage son and my husband and I have ROKU TV’s in our bedrooms and when I get up in the morning and I’m sitting in the living room drinking my tea, the tvs sound so loud. So I just pull out my phone, go to the app and connect to each TV, from there I can turn it down or turn it off if I want to. And sure, I could easily get up and go turn them down myself and believe me, before ROKU, I have. It is just super convenient and with todays hectic GO GO GO lifestyle, convenience is everything! ….This message may self destruct in 10… 9….8….😸

Roku channel TV bugs. Hello, have something to report, Roku channel crashes on the streaming stick after a few minutes of a movie, do not believe me, launch some thing and then wait a few minutes, your Channel will just stop working, and go all the way back to the menu where he would select your channel, it is very annoying, I hope this can be fixed in the next update on the streaming stick and, the following work just fine, main site, Apple app. These are solid, but the TV side needs to be tweaked just a little. I remember being able to watch a full movie on the thing, please fix it when you can thank you very much. Any update, I figured out something, this is all fine if you connect it all into the TV, but if you put it into the power stick I mean the plug, it goes back and does that thing I described. So I think this just might be my fault. :-) Anyway, sorry for wasting your time. Frown

Very Convenient When you Misplace the Remote. I was very excited when I found out Roku made an app for the iPhone. My remote is often knocked over by the cats and lands under my wheelchair which makes it hard to find. Or when I misplace the remote which is why I wrote this review since I couldn’t find it and the rate screen popped up. Lol I find it especially simple to use and though I only have one Roku still hooked up it always finds the right one. I’ve had my Roku for several years and was wondering if the app would work. The app works just fine on my iPhone 5. Plus it looks exactly like my remote the one without the channel buttons. If it is possible to change the skins I do not know I haven’t searched it out. I read one reviewer mention it often can’t find their connection that has happened only once I just restarted the app and it was fine. This is one of my most useful and helpful apps I have on my phone!

Love the app!. I love the app it’s amazing! But there are lots of set backs that make this not work properly, one is that the remote almost never connects to my tv. It could be the tvs fault but the app also has problems with other tvs and Rokus. Second, I have to click the buttons on the remote multiple times for it to work and it has a super late start so if I press back once, doesn’t work press it again seems like it doesn’t work but then I press it again and it goes 2 times making this harder than it needs to be. Also depending on the tv or Roku it doesn’t have some of the controls for me like the power button is gone on a tv and it’s there on another, I feel like it should stay the same. Those are all the problems but it has some great features like if you’re connected to a tv you can choose channels and there’s a way to type so you don’t have to manually type with the remote buttons. Sorry for bad talking your app it’s great but those things could be fixed hopefully

Finally you don’t have to pay. When I first got those other scam apps that you had to pay for everything like I mean everything it made me so frustrated that I deleted it so I decided to find another one and I found the official it was so good you don’t have to pay for anything I just loved this app so much it’s so useful and I am having some problems but I will explain it later what this app has it has channels and a touch pad and I love so much because it’s so much easier to use so helpful and there’s NO ADS and I love because adds are so annoying snd get in the way most of the time Now the problem I’m having but it’s pretty small Uh when I use the touch pad sometimes it sends me to a random link on safari and it’s so annoying so I hope you guys can fix it because it’s really annoying sometimes and also the volume button sometimes doesn’t work and it freezes and kicks me out which I hate so much but that’s all and I love this I suggest you get this!

Roku services bricked?. Been using this app with my Roku TCL TV for years without a problem, but as of yesterday this app just refuses to connect with my tv at all. It will even detect the tv but not connect with it, no matter how many times I tried. Another related issue is that I can’t seem to stream content from my mobile devices to my Roku tv anymore. Used to be able to beam whatever video I was watching on my phone straight to the tv, but now that doesn’t work either. Just like before, it detect that my Roku tv is there, but when I select it to stream from the phone, nothing happens… This all leads me to believe that there is a clear issue across Roku’s services. Perhaps their systems are down? My Roku tv still works fine otherwise, so I won’t give this a 1 star review, but as a wireless remote to my Roku tv, this app has effectively been bricked and made useless. I’m hoping Roku gets a handle on this issue soon, because the current update didn’t fix the connectivity issue and I still can’t use it to operate my tv.

Volume Controls Please. You have my consent to switch this to 5 star when the app isn’t as useless as Apple’s limited supply of emoji’s and filters to my knowledge based on my current available options. Currently Apple doesn’t have Dolphin filter, nor it has as many fish as the ocean has shown before, nor does it have Pokemon, let alone the manatee’s they casually leave behind while Google Earth hides both the Great Coral Barrier Reef that for all I know is now a MEDIOCRE at best, while the Texas sized treasure recycling island sits idle by creating Trashnadoes for baby Nemo’s and newborn Dory’s that got lost like orphans. Thanks Niantic’s Dad, tell your wife Yahoo I said hello while BINGe-ing some average TVA blockbuster GameStop AMC tactical Nokia. Again, please feel free to change from 1 star to 5 star when the elitest of the elite smart phones (iPhone 13Pro best guess estimate) can actually use its volume options. Chit Chatting without a ChatGPT algorithm ;) Oh yeah, your normal remotes like to break up, reporting bugs Manny News 🗞️ 📰🚨

Have never been able to connect to tv.. Ridiculous. It doesn’t work on either one of my tvs no matter what i do. Tv and phone are on the same network, tv is up to date as well as my phone and the application, and it only connects randomly and will immediately disconnect randomly. It only lasts for seconds. And i suspect it has everything to do with the fact i have kinetic wifi. It’s a pain. The Hisense and onn roku lacks volume buttons therefore there is no control besides changing channels without any type of remote and it’s ridiculous. I regret purchasing my roku tvs at this point. It’s been years that i have had this problem with the app. No matter what i do and try it refuses to connect and recognize my hisense or my onn. I cannot STAND it anymore. Please fix this because i am not the only one with this problem and you are only driving customers on a tight budget away. Remotes are 20+ bucks a piece at my local stores and i have a baby on the way to save up for. I know that doesn’t seem like much but it’s ridiculous when i have a free app that SHOULD WORK REGARDLESS. i shouldn’t have to get a remote! Totally unfair.

Powering Off Roku TV Form Bathroom. So we have a Roku tv in our living room, that it seems my parents can’t physically turn off before heading to bed. So every time I wake up to go use the bathroom I can see it’s still on form the hallway leading to the living room. So instead of walking; half asleep into the living room with only a shirt and undergarments on I can now just use the app and turn the TV off form way in the back of the house. It also has a great use! If it’s way to loud I can also use my phone and turn the volume down without them knowing. They can still hear it; they just seem to like it loud. I wouldn’t mind it but seeing as I can hear it at the other end of the house, it needs to be turned down. It also has a great feature to where I can hook headphones up to my phone and hear privately form the TV without disturbing others. It’s a great app for a great TV.

Remote with benefits. I have an older remote that doesn’t have a mute button and doesn’t have an option to listen on headphones. This app is a favorite of mine since I now have both of those features available to me. Like everyone else, I lose the remote from time to time and don’t have the motivation to spend 5-10 minutes looking for it, so when that happens I just pull out my phone and turn on the tv and start streaming. Before you let others know about the app, be sure you lay down some good pranks that’ll make them think that their tv has been overtaken by supernatural beings. You know how hard it is to type with ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️? No need for that, type from your phone and get to your shows sooner. Ever want to convince someone that there’s something better to watch but don’t have the remote? Now you do, with access to everything. I could keep typing about how awesome this is but I need to go watch something. Only bad experience: doesn’t always connect to the tv quickly and I sometimes have to try twice.

THIS ISNT TINDER U FOOLS. ***edit*** I went into the settings to switch my Roku and I saw the option to switch it back to how I liked it, and here I accidentally selected ‘swipe’ mode instead of ‘traditional’ mode weeks ago without realizing :/ I’m a clown :/ I’m sorry roku I love you, baby GET THE NEW VERSION OF THIS OUT OF HERE!!!! Why do you have to swipe your finger to scroll up, down, and across???? When you’re trying to find something to watch or know what show you want it literally takes fifty years to get to it because of how much fingering swiping you have to do. I want the one where you just have to press the button. Every time I try to swipe it it accidentally presses the buttons instead and I have to hit the back button a million times just to find what show I want. This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. How do I switch back? Again, this is the dumbest update I have witnessed in my entire life.

Can be very frustrating at times. The app is a great alternative to using the remote, especially if you are someone like me who looses it every 5 seconds. I have the app on a setting to where i can turn my tv on through the app. A lot of the times the remote is not connected so it doesn’t turn on my tv. The main reason I have this app is to listen to the tv with my headphones. A lot of the times it gives me problems and it doesn’t always connect to my headphones or it will connect for a little while and then start glitching later. This app has a lot of problems and its so annoying when I turn on my tv expecting to use my phone and its not connected. I don’t understand why its not connected when i have an internet connection. And also when the app starts glitching is causes my tv to glitch and turn off. And sometimes my tv doesn’t work unless i get up and unplug it and plug it back up again. As i said before, this is a good app and is very convenient, but at the same time it can still use a lot of work in the meantime.

Not worth the aggravation. My review will say what many others have said, this app is subpar. I don’t know how or why it has a 4.7 star rating because it doesn’t deserve it. I imagine positive reviews are coming from people that are only using this app as a remote because they want to and not because they have to. For those of us we have lost the remote and are trying to use this app as an alternative won’t have much good to say about it. There are MAJOR connectivity issues. When it works, it works very well. The problem is that it almost never works. It can’t find the device on the network, it can’t connect even when it sees it, it disconnects, etc. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I have tried many different scenarios like maybe if I do this and then this it’ll work, blah blah blah. Good luck trying to figure out any logical explanation for it. I’ve concluded that the main purpose of this app for people that are trying to use that as a replacement remote is simply to get us to buy a new Roku remote control, which unfortunately cost almost as much as a streaming device. As a replacement remote, I strongly do not recommend this app. It will just frustrate you more than anything.

This remote has no mute button/option. 18 December 2023 We cut the cord with Comcast because it was ridiculously expensive, too many unwanted junk channels, and too many ads. With Roku every decent app is an additional charge if you don't want ads (which adds up very quickly) so you aren't really saving any money... and you lose your high-speed Internet. We just found out that apparently it is possible too run your iPad or iPhone through the Roku which means you should be able to use the Brave app already on your Apple device and view it on your tv. Still no mute button on this Roku app, but Brave would improve the quality of our viewing experience greatly. Still exploring that option. Might need to buy a HomePod??? 16 October 2023. They ask for a review within an hour of setup, that provoked a one star rating. I'm sure my first impressions will improve. I know people who love their Roku. However, if things don't improve within a week we're going back to cable. What I've seen so far is movies and miscellaneous garbage fiction, I have no interest in either. Neither does anyone else in the family who will be stuck with this thing I advocated for long and hard.

convenient BUT -. Super convenient app if you’ve lost your remote or are feeling lazy, however, i’m not certain if it’s the app or my wifi, (noting that my wifi doesn’t do this with ANY other app) but it causes some issues. If my wifi is on when i try to open the app, it won’t work. I have to disconnect wifi, use data, open app, then connect to wifi. & then, it’s a game of tag. It’ll connect to my device, but then my wifi disappears, and it takes about a minute to get it back on. Not a big deal, i’m just usually using it to entertain my toddlers when they’re already screaming. When i do have wifi, it won’t connect to the device, and vice versa. I have to reconnect my wifi every 2 seconds using it. I’ll be in the middle of scrolling through shows and wifi disappears. Reconnect. Then have to reconnect device. Start scrolling again, and wifi disappears. Like i said, i’m not certain if it’s the app or my wifi, but no other app causes this issue, including another Roku remote. (i like this one’s set up better)

Very annoying.. This app is convenient for times when I’ve lost my remote or want to listen to my TV with head phones on, other then that it’s incredibly annoying. I’ll be in the middle of an episode of something, then all of a sudden my headphones disconnect and my remote doesn’t work. It will just completely stop working and when I try to reconnect it says “Your TV is powered off, please power on and try again”, when it’s clearly playing and there’s nothing I can do to pause it since I lost the psychical remote. Whenever I press “power on” on the digital remote, it doesn’t work, because the TV is already on and the app is just being stupid. Even if I close out of the app, when I go back on it just refuses to load. The only fix is for me to power off my phone, power it back on, reconnect to the internet, and then it lets me connect again. This is very irritating when it happens atleast 1-2 times during a 20 minute episode of a show. Super inconvenient and makes me not want to use the app. They need to fix it and make it so this doesn’t happen.

Not Roku’s fault. Like MANY others here and on website, my phone keeps disconnecting during private listening. No one could figure it out… except my kid. Notice that your phone is disconnected from the device when this happens (the dot beside the device name goes gray instead of green). Most routers have two channels. Devices can switch seamlessly between them to give you the best service (think your phone switching cell towers). Problem is, unless the Roku device and your phone are on the same channel, they won’t talk. You have to be a wizard and separate the channels and force every device in your house to only communicate on one of the channels then make sure every Roku device AND your phone are assigned to the same channel. Roku could design devices to connect to your phone with Bluetooth but then you couldn’t connect wireless headphones. You can get a Roku remote that uses wired headphones. Would like to see the Roku devices be able to connect via Bluetooth to headphones but that has nothing to do with the app.

Recent changes broke it. Yup new iPhone 14 and app was losing audio connection but at least it would reconnect but now just crashed and restarted phone and Roku app sits on splash page and no spinning graphic. Removed and reinstall now. Now I get the new user hints….AGAIN. down to 1 star now as it’s annoying. I use this app mostly to listen late at night using the headphone connected to phone. Used to be 5 stars until it broke. But a short while ago (couple months maybe) it crashed while using it. Couldn’t hear anything on headphones or TV. The TV started playing one I hard stopped the app. Tried going back to app and it would sit at the splash screen for many minutes and never load. Resorted to remove/delete the app and reinstall it. But just happened again so now reinstalling again. Last update said it fixed private listening crash. I tried it last night. I lost the connection and it started playing over the TV this time I was able to get it reconnected and worked again. Went to open app tonight after work and NADA, only thin was splash screen with roku logo tried to wait and it didn’t seem to ever get past that. Deleted YET AGAIN, FROM PHONE, and will be downloading again after I post this review and hope it works. AND BACK AGAIN DELETE AND RE INSTALL. it crashed a couple times and I had to force close the app. And it restarted and worked crashed few mins later and now same. splash screen, no spinning graphic and never starts.

Roku remote in the app almost NEVER works. The main reason why I downloaded this app was to have the remote on my phone if the physical remote is out of reach or I can’t find it. Well, it’s pretty useless when 9 times out of 10 the app won’t connect to my TV. My router is in the same room as the TV so it should be no problem. I don’t know if it’s because it’s the Roku TV (which we have had so many problems with so far that I regret not just buying a regular TV and getting a Roku stick instead) or what, but it’s pretty annoying and inconvenient. You can search specific media in the Roku app too, but when I try to select anything that way I get an error message… so I can’t play from the app, can’t use the remote in the app. What is this thing even good for?? Reached out to Roku support regarding my hands-free remote and spoke with someone named Neil. When I say “Hey Roku”, the whole TV freezes and restarts twice. Every time. It was obvious that Neil had no idea how to fix this as he said the ROKU hands free remote is not compatible with my ROKU TV (despite the website specifically saying that my remote is compatible with my TV), and he suggested I contact the TV manufacturer. Felt like he was just trying to push the problem onto somebody else. I’m at my wits end with Roku. Literally nothing but problems.

I am experiencing issues. But still the best.. Version 8.1.0.6 has caused the app to crash when clicking on the device select screen. This may be due to my phone also being enrolled in the iPhone beta updates. Both updates ( iOS and app) happened at around the same time. I have since removed the phone from being enrolled in beta and reverted iOS to its non beta version. However the crash still exists. I have followed normal troubleshooting of removing and installing the app, rebooting, etc. This has given me the opportunity to check out the other Roku apps. While those other apps are at least able to let me hobble along and use the system, I hate that they have ads. I stand by that this app is the better of all the other apps. I just hope that this crash is a known issue and will get fixed in the next version. Update: I have updated to 8.1.1 and the issue has been resolved. I can finally get rid of the horrible competition. Thank you.

From an accessibility standpoint, the watch app is pathetic!. I haven’t found many issues with the iPhone app, but nobody, including me, has all day to read or in my case, write my entire review about what’s wrong with the Watch app. It’s so much easier to write what does work, and that’s kind of pathetic. Everything should work with voiceover, meaning this is an accessibility issue. Your TV talks, but you fail to understand how well accessibility needs to work on your apps. All I can say is, everything on page 2 of the app works, but nothing else does. I can switch from page to page, but heaven forbid I should touch the page chooser, because it ends up going back to page one, which is beyond frustrating! When I’m trying to do something on page 2, then I go too far and get to the page chooser, it goes back to page 1. That should not happen! When there are four pages, and only a quarter of them work with voiceover, you have a problem. Accessibility should be one of the first things you should check before releasing an app.

Remote Control Connection. I swear I am never this guy to write reviews and complain about products. And I actually really appreciate all that something like this exists because some remotes these days have a ton of different batteries and they are always dying on you or not responding. I only put one star to get some attention because I think that there is one thing that everyone who uses their iPhone as the remote for their Roku tv (which I think you would be surprised at how many people do) has issues with is getting the Bluetooth to connect more rapidly. I know this probably comes off douchey but I really appreciate Roku. I only give this review because I like the product and I want to enhance it and make it better. It seems like, and this is not every time mind you, I spend a good 2-3 minutes trying a bunch of weird techniques and it’s not ideal. Ideally I would tap on the app, it would open, and have an option or setting to always make it so each time I open the app it automatically goes directly to the remote every time. Again, thank you Roku for all the progress this far and I appreciate your time. Thanks.

Great Replacement for my Broken Remote!. My Roku tv remote quit working for some reason and I was not able to get it to work again. I came across this app and I have not have any issues so far. It connected to my tv the first time I tried, it is a simple, straight-forward, remote that does everything that the original remote did plus so much more. This app has so many new and exciting features that I have not had time to use this far but I certainly plan to implement. The thing I really appreciate about this app is the fact that it’s free, and there are NO ADS! Or I have not run across any aggravating interruptive ads to sit through just to change the channel or look at the guide. Actually, I like this app way more than the original remote that came with my tv. So, “Kudos” to the developers of this app for making it feature rich, ad-free, and offering it for free!

Mid. It’s a great app in theory if everything worked. It’s user friendly, and offers personal streaming where you can connect and listen on your headphones through your phone. My issue is the connectivity issues that I consistently experience. The app itself connects to my tv, however the private listening has a lot of room to grow. I’ve tried with my AirPods and it’s maybe 50% successful, where I am trying to connect to my Roku tv then redirected to the homepage over and over. I updated my app, my phone, and did what I could with my AirPods. So then I tried my old plug in apple headphones - and the same issue popped up. The app will say it’s connected and then reboot itself over and over. I see how the app has room to grow, but for now the remote (which in my experience doesn’t have great connectivity in and of itself) seems to be the best way to go about things. I look forward to the improvement of this app. As of right now, the connectivity between phone/TV/Bluetooth headphones just isn’t comparable to other smart TVS. All that being said, when it works, it works well. So I don’t want to take that away. There is just much more room for development of their products, much similar to other companies out there.

Family Remote(ROKU). Good morning here is my review This app is literally the best when my sister can’t find Our remote to our TV I say calm down because there’s no need to panic because I have the app right here on my iPhone and almost like everybody in my family does and will use it like a lot and can’t find a remote the only reason why I did A review was because I want to help support this app because because I really enjoy paying for movies and watching them even more they have Netflix ,sling hulu, vudu, and more and here is some advice when you go to sleep at night time are you Gotta do is press the pause button and when you wake up in the morning it’s showing pictures of the new movies that’s about to come out like for example big Brother Doctor Who she’s Gotta have it or more or more classic movies so I hope you like it I tried my best my very best have the very best day goodbye...😀😄😁

Great App, works perfectly.. There’s one thing that must be said about Roku, and that’s that I feel like this app was made because they knew that their remotes would die very quickly. By that I mean, 6 months into having my tv, the batteries inside the remote actually corroded and ate away the battery contacts inside. I cleaned the inside and replaced the batteries only for it to happen again 4 months later. I was using Kirkland signature batteries the second time. After the third time of cleaning out the remote I noticed certain buttons stopped working consistently, and eventually I had to switch to using the app. The app itself is very useful though, I can do more on it that I could with the original remote. I love that I can just open the app on my phone and not worry about looking for the remote that fell behind my bed in my sleep again. However I have one complaint about the app itself, it doesn’t have a widget. I would absolutely love if I could put a widget on my home screen with 3 buttons, power on most recently used tv, open the remote buttons, and volume up + down. If this feature was added, I would gladly change my review to 5 stars.

Used to love Roku. But they’ve been pretty disappointing recently. My current issue is trying to figure out how to cancel subscriptions, and being unable to get into contact with anyone from Roku Anyone at all, is impossible. If I go to the site of what I’m subscribing to, it says I need to do it through Roku. When I go to Roku’s website, it says I need to do it through the Roku. I don’t see the option anywhere on the ruku, it’s not on the faq, their online “help” system is worthless and just puts me through circles. And their customer service line that they hide the number to (bet you can’t find it on their website) just saying to go online for help. Which isn’t helpful at all. So I’m about to just call my credit card company and file a fraud claim, I don’t know how else to get the payments to stop. Another annoying issue from about a year ago. I bought the top model of Roku since my old rule stopped being serviced. The most expensive, fastest model. Within 2 months it’s telling me I need to buy a memory card since the Roku is full, and until I do, it uninstalls apps to make room for the ones I use. All I use is 5 streaming channels. That’s literally the only apps downloaded on it besides what comes in it, which shouldn’t be a lotl. If I’m buying the most expensive, top end model of a product, I shouldn’t have to buy additional add ones to make it functional. I feel like Roku made it big and then stopped caring about quality, just on profits.

Bluetooth flakey / loss of device connection. I’ve been using the Roku app for about 2 months. All of the basic functions work which is great. My issue with the app is the Bluetooth functionality and the overalls app connection. The app seems to work for a time, or can work longer some days, but the app often will randomly drop signal for the headphones, lose my Roku sound bar and freeze up. I have to restart the phone, the headphones and the sound bar to get it to work again. A retry / reconnect on the sound bar never re-finds the sound bar. The aftermath of the app freeze on the phone and it’s connection with the Bluetooth headphones is what demands a phone reboot. I love the idea of the app and the potential. When it works, I love the functionality and option the listen and control our tv discretely as my wife is a night nurse with an opposite sleep schedule. I’d gladly do 5 stars if it wasn’t for all the disconnects resulting in hardware/software freezes.

Frustrating at times. Even after update still doesn’t work.. Biggest problem I have is that me nor my wife can connect to both of our TVs to access the remote in the app. I am connected to WiFi and it’s full signal in the living room and in the bedroom. My wife was having troubles a month ago for about 2 1/2 weeks and then it worked for me no problem. However about 4-5 days ago I can’t connect at all. I have WiFi connected to my phone and both TVs and the app is updated however the issue still persists. It’s a bit frustrating guess I will just go ahead an buy 2 new Roku remotes due to the app inconsistency we have had. I will say that when it’s worked for me, it was an amazing app however its not always easy to keep track of a physical remote when you have 2 kids that love to grab it a hide it, forget where they put it or it gets lost. So that’s why the app is always my go to to be able to quickly get the tv on without the 30 mins to all day search. Maybe others have had no issues like I’m having or maybe they have. Anyways 4 stars for the times everything worked however it pretty much useless when it refuses to connect.

Very good but TAKE THE 17+ RATING OFF!!!!!. I used to use this app literally every day because the remote was so useful! My roku tv at home is so finicky. It has a sweet spot that is hard to find and I have a shaky hand so it is also hard to keep consistent. But when I found this app it was a game changer. You don’t even have to aim the remote with this app. Private listening is also very useful. I like to have my tv loud, so late at night when I don’t want to disturb my parents watching tv, I can just turn on private listening and listen through my headphones. But with the latest update they added a 17+ rating. Which is super annoying. My mom has a restriction on my phone to where I can’t download 17+ apps. So thanks Apple. Now I have to have an app that is super bobo and doesn’t even have private listening. And btw, this app doesn’t have ads. LITERALLY EVERY OTHER APP ON THE APP STORE THAT IS A ROKU REMOTE HAS ADS. So not only is it super bobo, has no private listening, IT ALSO HAS ADS. Apple make this app 12+ or whatever it was before again!!!

I HATE THIS APP😐. I got this app at first when I broke my remote and it was working so great and was connecting to my tv very easily. I’ve had it for a few months now and I hate it. After a while it started taking a while to connect to my tv but it eventually got there. One thing about me is I am very impatient but this app was the only thing I had to turn on my tv and go to apps so I put up with it anyways.I put up with this for a good while until it got to the point where it wouldn’t connect to my tv AT ALL. Mind you there’s 2 other Roku tvs in my home and they both pop up on the list of which ones I connect too and they both connected perfectly fine! Except for my tv the one I don’t have a remote for. My tv would pop up on that list but everytime I clicked it it would just load and load and load until it said “could not connect to media room (my tv) check to see if your device is plugged in and on the network (which IT IS)” and the it would have to option “try again” or “manage devices” and yes I clicked try again just for it to the same thing all over again. Anyways I’ve never made a review on anything ever but I was just so annoyed by this that I had too.

Do NOT download this app!. The app works perfectly for the first time after you connect it, but as soon as the TV turns off, it won’t stay connected and you can’t wake/turn on the TV with the app even if your phone and TV are connected to the same network. When I tried forgetting the device and re-adding it to app, it also says that the device cannot be found, even if the wifi connection is the same for both and the signal is strong. I have read the official support site and other sites that recommend restarting both the app and TV, and checking to make sure the app and TV are on the same network, and it does the trick…until the TV turns off again. At that point, it is easier and takes less time to just use the physical remote, and if you can’t use it, you’re out of luck. I even tried updating the app to see if the problem was resolved, but both changed. This app doesn’t serve its purpose and it is definitely not worth all the hassle. Save yourself some time and frustration and just don’t download this app. Roku, please just fix the app so it actually works for once.

Helpful app with nice features. Having trouble finding your physical remote? No worries (as long as you know where your phone is)! The app works just like the physical remote. I’ve been using it for months now and love it. The controls are easy to navigate and has been a great thing if I’m in the other room and don’t have the remote nearby (in case I want to turn the music channels from a distance). One feature I love is the “private listening” one. This allows you to listen to the tv audio (only for streaming though) through your phone speakers or Bluetooth headset, if paired. This is great if you wake up overnight and don’t want to disturb or are trying to listen to something from the other room (I use this while washing dishes and listening to the news). Overall, it’s easy to use and has great features. Highly recommend.

BEST ROKU APP!!!. I have downloaded several of these ROKU apps and none even compare to this one!! The layout is so easy and sleek. You can also put this app on your phone or your tablet and they work great! When you’re looking for a show/movie you can speak into it AND can listen they your phone or connect your headphones to your phones (Bluetooth or whatever) and listen to your movies/shows once you switch to one of your other channels like if you have HBOMax or Netflix etc. That’s the only thing about this app I wish they’d make a bit better Wish they’d fix it where we could listen through our headphones even when just hooked up to our cable but regardless I am so grateful for this app bcz i am able to download it on all our Devices and my kids are always losing the actual Remote lol!! Thank you to the amazing people that created this App!!!

Best Handy App... Here’s why (Read All). Honestly, I love this app because it’s greatly convenient!!! Probably one of THE MOST convenient and simple apps for free. Like another reviewer said instead of searching for the remote as long as you have your phone (which is most likely all the time) you’re good. As a wheelchair bound disabled person, some people in my home can leave the remote in places I can’t really reach so that’s were this app come in handy, and really in this household the remote generally has the tendency to disappear. So if you have a remote that has hidden legs and likes to go into hiding then the app is great. On a funny and more truthful note, I originally got the app because my sister and I weren’t getting along at the time and she knows every morning I use the tv. For some reason the next morning I couldn’t find the remote and had a gut feeling she hid it on purpose so that I had no choice but to talk and ask her where it was (in which she probably still wouldn’t have helped to be petty). To avoid needing her help, I downloaded the app and she looked confused and shocked like “😳”. I felt like victory with my phone remote 😎😂. I definitely take back what I said about people who used this app were being lazy but it comes in handy for more than not wanting to get up!!!

Doesn't work for me. This app just seems to fight me all the time. Today, I couldn't find my physical Roku remote, so I opened up the app. When I get into the app, there's no volume control buttons, and the volume is up at 50. I actually found the physical remote, turned down the blasting volume on the TV with it, and then VOILA! The buttons appeared on the app. Go figure. My main reason for wanting to use this app was that whenI sleep, my phone is generally on the charger across the room. I can never find the remote, because the kids always lose it. So my thought was: when I wake up, I can merely use the Apple Watch on my arm to turn on the TV. NOPE! Every single time I try to use the Watch app, I HAVE to open up the app on my phone first, because the watch cannot connect to connect to the TV until I open the app. What a waste of my time and energy! For a "smart TV", no less. I have only one TV that has built-in Roku. I was thinking about buying a couple of Roku sticks for my "dumb tv's", but forget it. If this is going to be the problem I'm having with ONE Roku device, I can only imagine the issues I'm gonna have with multiple ones. I'll just spend $100 apiece and put mini computers on each of my TVs before I put myself through any more Roku torture.

This app never works properly. This app is constantly having issues. My Wi-Fi connection is strong. It doesn’t matter how close my phone is to the Roku tv. I’ve tried restarting my tv and deleting the app and redownloading the app multiple times. It still has the same problems. Nothing helps. I downloaded this app because my tv remote is broken. This seemed like an easy solution. Nope. It doesn’t power on my tv like it’s supposed to so I always have to find some other way to do. Then if I get the tv on, the app won’t connect no matter what. I always try to connect it manually by putting in my IP address and that doesn’t help. So after closing the app and opening it over and over again eventually I might get it to work. But what’s even more frustrating is that once it does connect it’ll randomly stop. I’ve tried leaving my phone unlocked and keeping the remote app open and on the screen, I don’t always open other apps because I’m worried it’ll mess it up. But it doesn’t matter what I do. This app has a much better review than the other one but that’s only because the other one does absolutely nothing. This app isn’t much better.

More disconnections with newer iPhone/updates? [Dec. 2023]. A member of my household has an iPhone 14 Pro Max and the remote would often (almost constantly) disconnect for her once she left the app; however, my iPhone XS Max would remain stable no matter how long I left the Roku app in the background. I could leave my home (and my range of WiFi) and come back and it would reconnect seamlessly. I recently got an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I’m now having the same issue — I leave the app or sleep my screen and I am disconnected. I’m still toting my XS Max around and it worked perfectly *until* I updated (I had historically been behind on some updates because I was constantly pushing my memory budget). I’m very reliant on the app to operate my Roku TV and I love love love being able to compensate for the physical remote with the app remote. I hope a future update remedies this (I will update my star rating when it rolls around)! I couldn’t bring myself to 1/5 stars for this bug but it is a huge undercut to the experience.

Life Changing. This application changed my life! I was watching an incredible live sports event and paused my ROKU device with the physical remote; as I needed to make an emergent visit to the idea factory. When I returned from my sojourn it was discovered, to my great dismay, that the batteries of my physical ROKU remote had lost their electric vigor. I had no remedy to the electric impotence. Due to my ongoing pursuit of living my best socially-conscious life, and compounded by the hour at which this event of electrical discharge occurred, I could not travel to acquire new disposable AAA electrical-charge storage devices (because I care about this planet Jennifer). I found myself in a profound distress, desiring knowledge of the sporting event result, while simultaneously having no way to resolve this prescient urge. I then considered my options: 1. Postpone knowledge of sporting event result. 2. Find a way to play the sporting event. I chose the road not traveled (option number two) not unlike Robert Frost. I travelled down the road not taken. I installed the ROKU app. I watched my sporting event. I am living my best life.

Best app. Best app for someone that is visually impaired because I can browse the channels and I can also use voice search so I love that idea and I have no issues whatsoever? I love the contact here on the Roku channel but I would love to see more genres added I am a huge horror movie fan so maybe add some movies and more channels for free here on the Roku channel I love the 70s horror grind house exploitation films but I love other shows and movies here I would love to see more documentaries and I would love to see some shock Demetris and Mondo flicks! And I’m also a fan of underground horror movies I would also love to have that added to here on the Roku channel so I would say keep adding more contact and keep going and also maybe add some movies and TV shows that can be narrated for people with visual impairments! I have a love for horror movies and classic movies too such as a Turner Classics but I also love Shakira mantras and I would love to see more news channels added here on the Roku channel so keep updating and keep adding more channels and keep growing

Can’t prevent phone from auto lock?. One glaring omission from this app is that there is no option to prevent the screen from auto-locking. That seems like such an oversight of something so essential in a remote app. Imagine you have a physical remote that sleeps and may or may not reload when you want to use it. Behold Roku app. Turning off auto-lock for the entire device just to keep the remote open is really a bad and unsafe alternative. Unfortunately with all the great features this app provides (especially the swipe controls and keyboard) this app becomes completely useless because eventually you will find yourself taking the path of least resistance and just reach for the physical remote. Please please add an auto-lock prevention option. IOS has this capability and from experience it’s relatively minimal effort to implement this functionality. Also Roku doesn’t seem to have an email to suggest missing features, so I’m going to be pessimistic here and assume Roku probably won’t read this and this app will never get this option. I so hope I’m wrong because I really want to use this app 🖖.

Rubbish. Completely hopeless. Always says there’s no wifi when all other wifi devices working fine. Makes the app pointless. Yes latest version is installed.

Parental control - none. Hi There is zero parental control for “channel” like YouTube…. You can not set access restriction. (Roku problem) You can not set time restriction. (Roku problem) You can not prevent child switching profiles (googles problem) So I guess I have to delete YouTube because that’s the only restriction I can do is block installing apps “channels” Also adding channel 7 took more than 30 re-download attempts because it kept having a error even after tv reset and there is no way to clear the data cahce that was obviously causing the error. I’m not sure what I did to successfully get it to work after it failed so many times after downloading.

Patience required. I’m in Australia, no idea if this is relevant to the fact that this app requires higher maintenance than my partner. Works well in the morning, gets totally confused as the day passes, to the point where I have to delete and download again. I’ll keep my man, this app however,, bye

Lost remote. Lost remote trying to connect with app and it won’t let me reset the wifi so annoying

The worst of the worst app. Everytime it connects for 2 mnutes than disconnects itself. Thought this feaure was a gem so bought this device but its just a catch that doesnt work at all.

No SBS on demand or 10play. Can’t get SBS on demand or 10play even though I am in Australia

Update Resolution. Hi, please update the resolution of the backgrounds on the app on iPad to at least 4K resolution. When opening on iPad the backgrounds are blurry as if they were designed for a smaller device like a phone.

Constantly Crashing after todays update l. Usually a good app, but appears today it has had a number of updates making some of its simple functions more difficult to get to, and it has crashed 4 times in the last hour. Also appears to heat up the phone quite significantly. I don’t need pops and extra features, just the remote will do.

Great app. Fantastic app. Love the ability to be able to listen through wireless headphones. It’s very easy to navigate and runs seamlessly

Very Good Stream OS. Hey Roku you are one of the best but I strongly recommend to change your useless very clicky odd control remote to something rechargeable and touch button functionality Roku you have the most useless control remote in the world. Also you need to update your UI just make it easy to navigate between app which you call channels 😂 i mean it’s very hard to find “channels” it’s very hard to navigate add or delete the apps sorry the channels! I mean about to give up on Roku because of your super useless c.remote and UI. Getting enough annoyed to switch to something else. This are the main reason you are loosing your popularity and TV manufacturers keep avoiding using Roku OS, because they listens consumers but Roku doesn’t do that. You are loosing your grip in tech i guess it’s time to change a bit?! All i can say as a Roku user i am about to say goodbye to Roku.

Great. We lost the remote control For weeks and the app was great

Don’t use this app. Use a non official app because this app never works. Absolute trash

Good ideas TERRIBLE quality. The features of the remote are quite nice, but the execution is atrocious. It takes minutes for a single command to go though and the audio disconnects constantly from my headphones and I can only turn it on with my phone about 1/10 times.

the app is all we have for headphone bluetooth... and its terrible and drops out constantly. roku needs to go back to the drawing board on this terrible app. i require bluetooth and this 2021 tv only accepts roku bluetooth devices, and the only connection for tv is in the roku app with the bluetooth from a tablet and the headphone feature, which drops all the time.... oh, well, its free i guess.

To Roku. I love having your remot so come to my house and kiss my lips and we will marry each other now bring me a boy

Hello. I will say it’s stylish instead of remote I can use an app

So easy to use. With a click of a button and like could change my show and turn on the TV when I lost my remote, it didn’t take a minute no ads and no money lost

Glitchy. The app is great, if it works. It often disconnects from my tv and then I can’t use my headphones, plus once it disconnects itself, it typically won’f reconnect for hours.

Can’t use headphones. With new update whenever you try and connect headphones with the app, the app will crash. Really disappointed.

Won’t work. App won’t work. I switched internet companies and now app can’t find my tv

No media anymore. The media icon has disappeared. Does t matter what iOS or Roku model. I don’t want to mirror my phone, I want the media player back.

Great app. I really like how I can control from your phone

Good app. This app is very good I used for all sorts of things for porn xvideos and brazzers.com and hentai haven and that hentai and yeah it’s a very good app

Annoying. From the start, if Roku created this app, it should be free. If not, then they should make one. I paid for their product already! Now I have to pay again to be able to use it?!? The cost to create is minimal, and to reproduce is zero! To use it for free is the final feat of futility! The adds, closing of the usable window, etc…

Private listening crash. The app worked great in my previous iPhone XS. After I upgraded to an iPhone 14 as soon as I hit the private listening button, the app crashes. That’s the most important part for me about using Roku. Frustrating

Doesn’t work. Created an account and attempted to stream Disney+; however, when I chose the video the app endlessly requests me to sign in. It just constantly pops up the sign in option and doesn’t allow me to watch anything.

This app is the best. I think this app is the best because you can get it for free and you can also hook it up on any TV but it has to be Roku and you can get it on your iPad or your phone and I just think it’s really cool

Satisfaction. Useless will not set up. I guess I throw it away now and tell as many people how poor it is as I can’t get it o work

You can’t use the remote. I lost the real remote at my old house and tried to use this app to replace it, but my roku is not connected to the wifi so I can’t use the online remote because it has to locate it on the wifi

New update not working. Works great until it updated. Can no longer find the wifi and will just close. Please fix.

Only for USA. A lot of the free movies will only work in the US. They even send me emails with the latest free movies and every time I go to them they say sorry only available in the US. Smarten up ROKU. At least don’t send emails with offers of free movies when you know very well I am Canadian!!!!. Don’t buy Canadians

Roku not working.. I am a snowbird, when I come to Arizona after about a month I lose function of Roku. Nothing will happen whe I try to play a show. When I return to Canada it works again . What do I need to do to have Roku in the states?

Could not disconnect so fast. Obvious sitting in my room, watching TV and I put my phone down for like five minutes while I watch a video and it was disconnected so when I went to skip the ad I couldn’t so please don’t make this connection so any otherwise it was good and I loved it might rain on the battery the other day so this really helped❤️❤️ Would recommend

It’s great. I can go to the apps that I used a while ago and I can troll my friends to think that there I a ghost in there tv.whercs great when my tv remote breaks also from Ryan trahan

Crashes When Airplaying Video and Using Remote. I noticed it crashes everytime I try to Airplay a video and then go to the remote to route the audio to my headphones instead of the TV.

Roku tv. The power button will not work for my tv

Works sometimes.. Only works maybe a quarter the time. Works great when it does.....but takes forever to connect/reconnect.

Problems. Once Roku is activated can’t get rid of it. Have to unplug it.

It’s not working properly again with new update. Lots of bugs, rarely connects to tv now, y’all need to work out the bugs!! It was working great until the new update. Please fix!!

Eco-mode. The app does always said that my TV is in eco-mode, so I can’t use the application. Sometime it works and sometime not...

Roku Rocks. I have a Roku Steaming

I’m calling an exterminator. This app is so buggy you’re going to need to call an exterminator. I swear to god. This is the last time I download this crap, I’m going to start using 3rd party, untrustworthy developers because they do it better and I don’t have to swear at my tv every time I want to use it. Your app is bad and you should feel bad

Crashes all the time. Very bad app. It crashes all the time and the remote listening is a joke.

Pretty terrible. Doesn’t stay connected.. third party apps respond faster and stay connected. Don’t waste your time.

Consistently disconnect from my device. At least 1-2/week the app is disconnected from my tv and I click connect and it won’t work. Have to delete and redownload app.. annoying

This app is so good buy it yourself and see what I’m talking about. App is so good I lost my TV remote, so I just use Roku app

Refuses to connect a lot. I love this app so much… when it works. Majority of the time it’s trying hard to connect, I even upgraded wifi providers with no change. Recently it kicked both my partner and I off and now it won’t come up on our device list even though it’s connected to the same wifi, I’ve typed in the IP address, reset everything and still no luck.

Roku. Too many hoops to jump through to try and eliminate channels that I no longer want. I do not recommend this product at all!!!

your app DOES’T WORK!. IT DOESN’T REMOTE. WHAT KIND OF REMOTE DOES NOT REMOTE!

Meh. Love it when it works but only connects to my tv 50% of the time. Kinda useless if you ask me.

Never works. I have perfect wifi yet it wont connect to my tv literally ever, i can run every game on my playstation no ethernet but yet my phone cant connect to a tv not even 20 ft ahead of me

Doesn’t work. It worked for the first year of having the TV. Now it won’t connect at all. I’ve tried uninstalling and installing again but that doesn’t fix it. TV doesn’t seem to need update. Netflix doesn’t work on ROKU TV anymore either. ROKU does not age well.

The last update broke the iOS app.. Constantly and consistently freezes very frustrating force closing it every single time I need it. 1 star until fixed

Disconnected from tv. Have to delete and reinstall every other day because it won’t connect to the TV otherwise works fine

Bad remote. Remote sucks

To much time. It takes forever to get a connection

Really good!. I keep loosing the remote (irl) and the app helps out alot! Thx for the app!

It doesn’t work. It doesn’t work

Great app - can now use Headset!. I purchased the Roku TV last year. I wanted to use a Bluetooth headset and was told by BestBuy that the TV was not compatible with Bluetooth. Through the magic of the internet I found this App. Sure enough it has a headset button on it. I connected my Bluetooth headset to work on my iPhone then pressed the Headset button on this app. Voila works like a charm! By the way BestBuy tried to sell me a corded headset for $269. This app saved me over $300. Thank you! Also the rewind/fast-forward setting works better through this app than the actual remote that came with the TV. This app is awesome and very easy to operate!!

Bugs bugs bugs. Couldn’t even get past step 1: Tried to create an account in the app and just get a continuous “unable to create account” message. So no Roku for me.

Won’t load.. I downloaded the Roku app 2 years ago after my remote stopped working. I’ve never had an issue with the app until now. When I open the app it loads but will never go any further then that. I originally believed it may be my phone I’ve restarted my phone twice, I’ve since re-installed the app 3+ times with no change. I’ve tried using the app on different wifi networks, no change. I’ve tried using my data, nothing. This has been ongoing for a over a week and a half. No improvement or change. Just a purple spinning wheel on the main screen when you open the app. Can’t even turn my TV on or off. Truly irritating. I’ve resorted to using other universal remote apps but the ads are just as irritating as the loading screen.

Best Roku App Ever!. I never really write reviews but this app so totally rocks I think I need to let others know. So many apps out there are really nothing more than crap but this Roku app met all expectations and more. All I really wanted was for my phone to act as a remote. I downloaded the free app and launched itturned it and immediately a screen popped up which had already searched for Roku debices registered to me. I was asked which device I wanted to use. I selected my living room device and immediately my phone turned into a remote fir that Roku box. I could choose other screens and see what was available to watch on premium channels, what was available on my channels, and a search button. If I only wanted a remote I wasn’t bothered with anything else. Simple. But the biggest surprise was, if I didn’t want to bother anyone else I could actually tap a key and every channel on my Roku was routed to my headset. This cyber key when tapped would immediately pair my Roku box with my Bluetooth headset. I could then walk around, turn up my headset, and chill, not having to worry about neighbors or anyone in my home who was asleep or didn’t want to be bothered. I’m sure there are other features, all of which you can ignore if you only want a remote. Kudos to the maker of this app.

APP functions stupidly. Why bother to have a mobile app that you can’t use unless you connect with a fixed wireless? I tried to go into update my payment information for my new credit card. I can’t accomplish this because it will not connect and less it has Wi-Fi. We only use fixed secure Wi-Fi because of data security issues. I certainly don’t want to break this rule in order to go on this app to update my credit card information. This is a stupid design that they need to fix. Most of us have unlimited data and are not concerned about whether we have Wi-Fi. Also if I were using this app on a road trip with my kids I would want them to be able to look on their iPad whether or not we had access to reliable Wi-Fi. Stupid stupid stupid design. Any app to sign her that is this out of touch with the purpose of its application needs to be replaced. Roku needs to fix this or I suspect it’s going to be replaced with the mini market alternatives that have now developed including Apple Watch doesn’t have this problem.

Not really sophisticated. Nice job on the app, easy to navigate and pretty much self explanatory to connect your device(s) to. I’ve not run into any complex issues as of today and have had the app probably 2 or 3 months now . I like it because I’ve always liked using my phone as my remote. I currently have an iPhone that doesn’t have or hasn’t had ir blasters (as far as I know) to allow your phone the ability to be used as a remote without a WiFi connection. Now a days connection through WiFi is the solution. Works great and is a great Innovative app that I’m sure will continue to help bridge the gap between users and technology. I’m really excited and curious to see how this Roku app stays modern and relevant in a constantly evolving technological society. I’m confident that Roku will G-E-D. Get-Er-Done....

Would love to see voiceover support. I am a visually impaired user of this application. I noticed that on the remote control, where the arrows and the OK button and anything else are concerned. Voiceover just announces the word, button. So we have to label the buttons ourselves in order to find out what they are. I would like to see Roku improve this application and have VoiceOver support over all, this app is great to have if you don’t want to use the physical remote. I would also like to see voice recognition put into this for those who have limited mobility. This would also be great if we could use this over our cellular data. Especially for those who have unlimited data. And auto lock feature in the previous reviewer‘s comment I second. But I understand why it’s not here since an iPhone battery can be drained very quickly.

Roku Remote doesn’t stay connected to Roku TV. I’m having the same problem as the user, Cerealkelr, who left feedback 2 years ago. Refer to their review for the details. In summary, my Roku remote (mobile app) doesn’t stay connected to Roku TV but when it does connect, it’a great. I’ve reached out to Roku customer service through email and live chat a few months ago but it was a miserable experience. They didn’t listen to me, address my problem correctly, nor did they give me any practical advice or support. I was/am disappointed and annoyed but I’ve just been dealing with the issues and when it intermittently works I’m glad, I guess. I’m fully confident that this review will have no affect on anything but maybe someone out there will read some of this and might look into the problem and at least say something like “yes, this is a known bug that happens between some Roku TV models and the Roku remote on the mobile app and we are working fixing it.” Thanks.

Much nicer on iPad now. Now that they finally made an app designed to work on iPad, not just iPhone, it’s much nicer. Some occasional glitches with orientation (that might be more my iPad, since it’s 8 years old). You can now browse and watch Roku channel videos in any orientation. I also appreciate the option to change streaming quality here. For those of us who have slow internet, or limited bandwidth, that’s quite helpful! I wish you could save your preference in an app setting. But at least it does keep the same settings if you are continuously watching, via auto play. (It would also be nice if we could change streaming quality on desktop, but that’s another matter) A great improvement from past apps! Thanks Roku

Roku is internet required.. I’m use to my old element tv that just connects and go. But this new “smart” tv requires internet for literally everything. Just to smart view it with a Samsung phone it must be connected via WiFi as well as the app, you can’t use your mobile hotspot for the app as both devices must be on same link. I don’t have internet hookup here so this tv is more or less a wall decoration and the app but wasted space on my phone. Don’t get me wrong most people have internet nowa days but it’s getting to the point everything is requiring it which is complete bs. Should at least write it on the box so people don’t have to go home with it to find out. Also you can Bluetooth to this tv! If you buy an additional sound bar for a hundred or so bucks.... reason it gets 2 stars is because I can at least watch a movie when some family stays over and we have 2 phones for one to cast WiFi to the tv and other phone so they are on the same link to connect..

BEST APP OUT THERE!!. I 100% prefer using this app over my actual Roku remote. First off, we LOVE it for barbecues because you can connect a Bluetooth speaker to your phone and have the TV sound come through a bluetooth speaker rather than your TV speakers. Very nice for NFL & MLB games where everyone is outside but still interested in the game. It responds using Wi-fi which is much quicker, plus the Roku app shows all of the apps you have downloaded to your home screen which allows you to switch apps quickly without ever needing to actually go to the home screen on your TV. Also, this app works from anywhere as long as you’re connected to wifi. I have used it many, many times when we go to bed and realize we forgot to turn the living room TV off. Last but not least, no more looking for the remote!!

Breathe new life into an old TV. I have a primary and a secondary residence, and several TVs in each. These range from new 4k UHD TVs to much older plasma & LED TVs. The older TVs are fine for bedrooms or outdoor areas, but as we cut the cable and went full streaming, several of the TVs lacked Wi-Fi//Bluetooth needed to stream from the router directly. Roku enabled me to modernize these TVs rather than tossing them in a landfill or donating them. The new rechargeable voice remotes have made Roku even better, and I'll be able to use these TVs until they finally conk out. $30 for a Roku stick/remote sure beats buying a new TV, even the cheapest sets they sell at the big box stores, and the interface is easy to use for everyone in the family. Thanks for making such a great product at a reasonable price.

Roku. Roku you need to fix all your Roku TVs even your old Roku TVs and please put a software update. There is a bug. Where when you watch a movie on certain streaming, it will flicker and show up black screen and the video will put the content will show up and it will flicker. They show the content and it will show up black screen. Please fix all your Roku TVs that has a display panel in there to make sure that your software is working properly and all your 4K Roku and any old Roku TVs are working 100% and you have no issues 100% and please make sure that there’s a display panel software update for all your apps and please make sure all your software is working 100% on your new Roku TVs, and all your old Roku TVs and please require that all Roku TV will get unlimited updates forever so your TV will work 100%

Temperamental remote replacement. Family room Hisense tv remote broke. Roku 2D box in bedroom remote wouldnt work on hisense got this app on my ipad and 2 iphones to recognize both devices at first. Sometimes connection has to be re established if i leave my house, today i had to shut down the other phone, which did not leave the house, for it to recognize the hisense, but the phone that left the house nothing works anymore, not even reinstalling app and manually imputing the ip address. They are signed into my roku account by email. My ipad so far isnt doing this. Shows anything free is junk. I had to take the phone off the network shut it off and reinstall the app every time i leave the house with my phone and it sometimes recognizes my tv after all of that. Its a pain. Nope didnt work this time says the tv in front of me isnt on the network, only the bedroom one i have to keep putting the name and location every time i reinstall too. My other phone is no lnger recognizing my tv either

Horrible app.. I’m not sure what the thought process is when these apps are developed, but you might want to make an app that actually works with all of your products. This app used to be fine, but it all of a sudden will not connect to my TV anymore and I’ve made no changes that would’ve caused that to happen. I’ve tried all of your generic, run-of-the-mill troubleshooting answers you give on your website and none of that works. I put in the IP address manually and it STILL told me it wouldn’t connect. My network has already granted permission, and the phone and tv are on the same network. There is no reason I should have to bend over backwards to fix this. You shouldn’t be giving generic answers. Either fix it or send us new products and make this right. I’m not going to buy anymore Roku products at this point. There seems to be a lack of any effort to address that issue, and from what I’ve seen on the internet those general solutions aren’t solving the problem. So it must be internal with the app/TV itself. Please address.

why is there a pro version!?!?. I have been owning a Roku TV for 4 years now. I have loved using this app for my remote needs when i cannot find the physical one. I had seen this app improve and become more convenient over the years. I had recently re downloaded the app after purchasing more space on my iphone. I had noticed that now there is an in-app purchase in order to unlock features that should already be provided with the free download. Why am i gon pay 4 dollars to be able to turn up the volume and access my channels quicker??? I had already purchased the tv with the remote included. I jus see it as unnecessary and unfortunate that I would have to make a purchase in order to have these minimal feature for 4 bucks... Now I will just tape my remote to the wall in order to raise or lower the volume 👍

The most frustrating remote ever. I’ve never written a review before in my life but this app has caused me so much frustration and anger that I feel I need to share. I lost my physical Roku remote, and have spend months looking for it. It’s no where to be found. So this app is my only hope of controlling the Roku. When I say that the remote disconnects at the most inconvenient times I am not kidding. Want to rewind a show for 10 seconds? Nope, the remote will freeze and you’ll be stuck rewinding your show to the beginning. Wanna turn down the volume of a unnecessary loud commercial? Can’t, remote needs 30 seconds to “wake up”. How about skip a intro on Netflix? Ahhh no no, the intro will be long over before you can even get the remote to connect to your tv, That you’re 2 feet away from. The frustration is unbearable I have torn my house up looking for my physical Roku remote. I can’t take this app anymore I wish the creators would look into getting rid of the “eco mode” because I surely never wanted my remote to take 30 seconds to turn on, every 5 seconds... it is horrible.

Private listening doesn’t work well. I use the Roku app on my iPhone along with my AirPods to listen to my Roku TV (TCL) when my wife is sleeping. However, the sound cuts out for a few seconds every few minutes as it is apparently re-syncing the picture and the sound. I have read every troubleshooting article I can find, including Roku support, but I cannot fix the problem. I even listened on my iPhone without AirPods and it still does the same thing. My Wifi signal is strong; no interference from other apps. I am 10 feet from the TV so the Bluetooth signal is good. Cannot figure it out. My conclusion is that the app is bad. Roku has a good concept with private listening but it is simply a poor app. I was even thinking about buying Roku wireless speakers. I am now rethinking that. Signed, a dissatisfied customer.

tiresome!!!. i lost my remote to my Roku and downloaded this app thinking it was gonna be a lifesaver but it's not!! this app decides it’s gonna disconnect itself and say my TVs not found on my network when every other device is working properly (including my tv)?!! i’ve downloaded and uninstalled this app multiple times because it really just gives me a headache with all its inconvenient problems... the disconnecting is the biggest one for me, but not only that it also connects to my neighbor's tv which isn't even connected to the same network?!?! im willing to try it again because it seems like a trustworthy app but the running back and forth from my tv and bed is getting ridiculous just trying to get it to work!! this may be just me and i can be held accountable for these problems but my tv is on and the app still says my tv isn't connected to my Internet!? this is just my experience and it may not be the app itself but it really just ticks me off!!!

Roku box great / TCL TV not a fan!. I had the roku box to add onto a previous TV that wasn’t a smart TV which was awesome. I have a 70% hearing loss so I love the remote with a headphone adaptor to keep from disturbing others when I watched TV. It was one of the main draws to Roku for me! I got a TCL Roku TV which is terrible. It cinsrantly crashed doesn’t have a cat5 hardwire option and my wifi is dependable but this TV is all around bad. I bought another of the same model thinking maybe it was just a lemon. Same outcome. Roku ricks but their pairing with TCL TV leaves something g to be desired. I would have rated it higher but Roku QA should do a better job on picking partners and helping with feedback on the kinks. I have other friends that I learned have them same issues with the TCL Roku tv. I wish I knew before I bought it that they were unhappy as well!

Not working properly. I really think yall need to fix this app… it works when it wants to and not when I need it to.. i have the internet connected to my phone and my tv and half the time it keeps saying it cant find my roku tv and then it will connect and then disconnect and then it takes hours to reconnect to the tv. Other times it will connect instantly and then other times im just watching the circle move around for hours saying it cant find my tv.. ive tried to contact roku support but apparently you cant… and my tv has no updates i havent had an update for this app since i downloaded last year… it needs a update because this is getting ridiculous. Funny though alot of people are having this issue and i dont see yall replying to them 😂😂😂 some customer service… Fix it before yall lose alot of customers thanks

Headphone features no longer work. I have been meaning to write a review for quite a while on how much I appreciate this app…. Unfortunately as it goes, I didn’t grant that courtesy as I should have, and it would be nice to receive those good reviews before you receive the not so good…So in all kindness, this app has been great until a couple weeks ago the headphone features mysteriously stopped working. This could not have been caused by any updates, as was mentioned by a previous user. It’s been a while since I took any iOS updates. I just took iOS 15.7 and 16 today thinking maybe this would fix and it didn’t. The headphones feature was my only reason for using this app. Up until then this app was literally a life saver. After this issue is fixed, this app is rated a 5!

This app used to be great. So the Roku app used to work perfectly, the private listening was on point, it would immediately recognize all my devices, but now it’s a hot dumpster fire. The app won’t recognize my device unless I restart it and connect to it within a minute or it won’t appear. If I do end up connected the private listening consistently stutters or stops working for a minute. I looked up solutions on your forums but it seems like it’s been going on for about two years and have created no solution in that time. I have it a two star because it worked great for a long time and it may just be buggy for a few people but still, two years? Please find a solution and I’ll change my rating. Edit: they’re connected to the same Wi-Fi, the app has access to devices on the network, and all the other solutions you guys will state I’ve tried. It used to work but now it doesn’t

Great, when it actually works!!!!. It’s fantastic to be able to use your phone as a remote. The problem is, it only works about 20% of the time. The other times, you spend a stupid amount of time trying to “find your device” on your network. I’ve tried closing and reopening the app, reconnecting to the network, turning off cellular so it’s only on the same wifi network. I even moved the router so it’s within arm’s reach. When it doesn’t work, there’s nothing you can do to make it work. Aside from the remote functions, it’s also good for searching while you’re watching something else, just don’t twitch and accidentally select someone or what you’re watching (or more often, what someone else is watching) will instantly be replaced with whatever you clicked. Note: I’ve been using Roku and their app for years and hope with each update they’ll fix it, but nothing so far. The frustration finally got to me and led me to writing this review.

When it works, it’s great! However…. When it works, it’s totally awesome! It gives you all kinds of info about programs and allows you to use your phone as a remote. It’s worked for many months. Today, for unknown reasons, it just stopped working. I hadn’t changed anything. The app now absolutely won’t connect to my Roku Streaming Stick 4K+. The stick works fine and is connected to the exact same network as my phone. My phone’s network connection is fine. The TV is fine, Roku is fine, the remote is fine. They all are working fine together. The app just won’t connect. I tried connecting manually in this app, carefully matching up the IP address of the stick to the app. The app still won’t connect. I deleted the app, then reinstalled it. The app still won’t connect. I even did a soft reset of my phone. The app still won’t connect. I disconnected the power to the TV and the Roku. No matter what I did, and no matter how carefully I read and followed the instructions in the online Help for this app, the app won’t connect. I give up.

Great app when it wants to work (Buggy). It’s incredibly buggy every time I go to use it it takes forever to sync to the tv and half the time you have to turn the tv off and back on in order for it to sync. When I’m using it, it will randomly stop and then I have to wait a couple seconds for it to start working again. I know it isn’t my wifi because my wifi can run Netflix, my Xbox, and all of our phones at the same time and won’t be slow or laggy. It isn’t my phone because I have a iPhone 12 pro. Sometimes it you have to click the over arrow a couple times before it goes over while I’m pointing my phone at the screen. It always says I’m in “eco mode” when I’m in the middle of a show, or it will tell me to “wake up Roku” when it’s on and I’m in a middle of a show. When it’s not buggy it works perfectly fine and has no ads which is nice

Good app but needs updates. I lost my remote 2 - 3 days ago and I used this app! When I first did. It was okay. The next day I realize you need to have your tv on for the next day otherwise you have to get a remote. The channels are cool though however sometimes you want to watch something and then you have stuff you don’t like. That is just my opinion. I get the thing of it needing to connect. However don’t turn off you tv ever otherwise useless app! My mom bought 5 yesterday. Yes that is right, I said 5 just in case if I lose another one. I have another spare. Sometimes the needs connecting plays for no reason. And is this just my tv but the Roku TVs disconnect the WiFi after turned off for hours. Not even a day! You need to change this. Or make a button to turn it on when not connected. Other then that. It is a good app. Not the best though. If you make this app better. I will regret this message. But for now, this is ridiculous!

I Love Roku. Before you read this… just know I’m a Roku Super Fan and stock holder so I’m a little biased. Okay so… Every TV in my home is a Roku smart TV as well, so having this app on our smartphones is super convenient. I love the headphones feature which allows me to watch & listen to shows on my TV at night without disturbing my family’s sleep. I won’t even go into why I love the selection of movies, TV shows, and live broadcasts on the Roku Channel. I have been a Roku user since cutting the cable TV cord in 2016, and it’s been the best decision for my family. I even own a good amount of Roku stock and during the pandemic bought a couple of my extended family and friends Roku devices. Man, getting out my excitement about this company was rather therapeutic. Enjoy!!!

Your a Stupid if you didn’t get the whole package!!!!. I bought myself a 75” Hisense LED Rokuflat screen Television for a “Merry Christmas to Me, because I’m Worth It” gift in December of 2019. I wasn’t quite sure about this Roku thing but I thought “what the heck, I can always turn it off and then get cable reinstalled in my house. Well... long story-short... I now have everything Roku makes all the way down to the ear buds headphones. “I’m in love with a Technology God!!!” It is so wonderful to know that I have bought quality products for more than half - Less than $ what even the absolute ridiculous Priced competitors offer and a guarantee that all the accessories are compatible with each-other, while still offering the same if not better quality and performance than the so called higher priced competitors clam to provide.

What’s wrong with the new Roku express?. So I’ll start by saying that I’ve had an old model Roku for years (I don’t even remember how long maybe 7 years) and I love it, I still do. I had this in my bedroom for Netflix mostly. I moved and because I no longer have Spectrum in the new place I decided to go with Xfinity and get Sling to see sports channels, they had a promotion where they’d give you a free Roku express so I jumped on this because I really enjoyed my old Roku and thought this newer version would be better... I installed it (super easy) and it worked for about 3 days then it started saying that the network is out of range, I don’t t get it! Where I have my router it’s not that far... At first I thought it was the actual provider (Comcast) I tried doing all the troubleshooting. But what didn’t make sense is I had a fire stick and it worked fine, So I even switched and plug my very old Roku and it works fine! So this is definitely the new Roku Express being horrible and frustrating.

Remote and download problems.. I’ve been using this Roku remote for some time now, and lately it has been acting up. It doesn’t want to connect when I clearly have service, it picks up everyone else tv but mines so which had me thinking it was my television at first, but that’s not the case! So I decided to delete the remote and reinstall it, that’s where the problem comes in now with these new iPhones and such. So now I can’t download it without uploading a card or because I have other subscriptions on my phone that has nothing to do with my remote that needs to be paid. Now am I wrong? Because last time I checked my finances has nothing to do with Roku Remote. Now I have to download generic versions of this remote that comes with a million and 1 ads. It’s really ridiculous now, I’ll whether just pay money for regular a tv remote. And the fact that it doesn’t even support Disney + regular but still charge you for it. But have to buy the upgraded version to watch it on your TV. This is an outage!

Only connects to Roku TV half the time. We have two Roku devices. A usb stick for our playroom tv, that one connects every time without issue. But our other device, a Hisense Roku tv, we have issues with all the time. The tv will be on, it will be connected to the WiFi, and yet still the app will just say “wake device” and proceed to go through the 35 second timer of trying to connect before timing out and starting over. We have to do this sometimes 10+ times before it finally connects, and sometimes it won’t connect at all. It’s really pointless, especially when one of us has misplaced the remote, we can’t watch anything because it just simply refuses to connect. Again we have no issue with our USB Roku so it can’t be our WiFi. And the tv works just fine with the actual remote, it just simply won’t connect with the app and it’s infuriating.

Will change rating to higher when private listening gets fixed. 2023 update: i wrote this YEARS ago and the problem persists. I really like the app and I use it a lot. My favorite feature is private listening but the problem is it barely works/ doesn’t work at all. Sometimes it cuts out every few seconds. Sometimes it just plays audio from your tv at full volume. I feel like it’s a great feature in theory, and I just want it to work better. In the current state it feels like we’re beta testing a buggy feature. 2023: also a lot of times it will continue playing whatever you’re watching while audio comes from neither the tv nor the private listening. I like to watch tv at night and I have roommates. the roku tv doesn’t let you connect bluetooth headphones (at least mine doesn’t) so I really want this feature to work better. I also have great internet. it’s so unreliable that it’s pointless to turn it on. you will miss out on what’s being said every other sentence.

The remote feature WAS better before.. The most recent update to this app should be undone in the next. The remote feature was great and mirrored the hand held remote perfectly. But now the remote is pushed up and reduced in size. To make room or another remote button and the channel selection button. You pass the channels to get to the remote so why would I need that? And if I am IN and using the remote why do I need a button to get to where I am. I get that it’s for quick screen switching but really. Seems a bit redundant. Secondly. The headphone feature which was super awesome. (Especially with a child sleeping in the next room.) is unstable now. So I’m scared to use it because after a few minutes it will shut off and the volume of the tv will return to full and that is rather loud when it was silence in the room a minute before. Upgrades are fine but not one that are unneeded, and make the app unstable.

awesome app. my sister and i used to share a room. we got a new tv shortly before she moved out & it happened to be a roku tv. however, she had a different roku app, so ultimately i downloaded the same one she had. it was the worst! come to find out, it wasn’t by roku!!! when i found the REAL roku app (THIS ONE!) i was amazed. so many features and an added bonus is the availability of free channels. i can control all this from my bed. let’s be honest, who wants to put their glasses back on laying in bed so they can see what they’re doing? not me, at least. i’ve encountered no errors. i just started using the app about 2 months ago. with how awesome roku is, my boyfriend became convinced to buy a roku!!! he purchased one last week and has been in love with it ever since. thanks, roku!

Works well half the time. With my kids constantly losing the remote, this app comes in handy when you want to resume watching your shows. Only issue I’ve been having since I downloaded the app is sometimes not detecting any devices or it keeps disconnecting. Leaving one of my kids with autism in distress while assuming I don’t want to press play. Even though on the device I want to control, no messages comes up stating there’s no internet connection or all my other devices, especially the smartphone that the app is on maintains internet connection. So I am at a lost here with this app. At this point I might as well spend money on a new remote as backup while looking for the lost one. Don’t get me wrong, I do appreciate the work that was put into this app, and may work as intended for others with no issues but for my experience alone it’s not worth the stress.

Held back slightly by interface short-term, immensely after that. The connectivity to the Roku monitor is amazing, definitely a defining quality. Phone will disconnect periodically if you leave the app open and on for a long period of time, I’d assume to save phone battery. Props for pausing the connection to the tv when switching apps on the phone to decrease background tasks. Interface is appealing, the haptic response when pressing buttons makes sure of that. It performs effectively and does as is required by the tv as a regular remote would. However, it is not really necessary to preserve the layout of the physical remote, especially in the near-future. There is too much potential in viewing entertainment via remote-control to be held back by a design that’s held back by physical requirements. Such a design would make so that however someone interacts with Roku could pivot easily to be compatible with emerging entertainment platforms.

Doesn’t work. Like many others have said, the app doesn’t work at all. Everything is set correctly on my iPhone and the tv. It will NOT find my TV. Original Roku remote that came with the Sharp Roku tv has long been munched on by dog and then lost. For the most part, I can operate the tv with a sharp remote from a previous non-smartTv but there are certain things I can’t do without the Roku remote so it would be great if this app worked. Sometimes need to be able to have the asteric button to cancel a subscription easily. It’s a pain to have subscriptions tied to Roku period because when logging into my Roku account it seems I can never accurately locate my current subscriptions. And logging in to the subscription platform itself doesn’t work because it’s not a normal subscription and tied to Roku. The only good way I found to cancel previously was to get this app, but connectivity was an issue and stopped working. Deleted the app and redownloaded and it’s never found my tv since. Smh.

TCL Roku TV - Remote. I use the remote on the app for private listening using my Bose Quiet Comfort II headphones. When it works it’s fantastic! Lately I’ve been having so many issues with it doing this 30 second countdown to wake my tv up out of “eco mode” for no reason at all. My tv is not in eco mode. I wait the 30 seconds for it to connect and it starts all over with the 30 second eco mode stuff. I get so frustrated. I’m a techy. I know my way around these issues by searching from solutions from others. Currently I’m turning Airplane Mode on and off to reestablish my WiFi connection. That seems to fix the issue for a little while, but come on. Why should anyone have to do this? I’ve had this tv for two years now and have always had this issue with the remote feature on the app, but it’s gotten so bad I felt I needed to leave a review. The app remote has also started not working when I try to turn my tv on. And yes, both my phone and tv are on the same WiFi network. Major frustration. Please fix this issue already!

This Helped my Household. My roommates, John and TJ, and myself have found significant assistance with this app! As a group of young adults, our resources have led us to having multiple TVs within our living room. As one might expect, this causes some tension between us. The main issue comes with our lack of AAA batteries which power multiple remotes within the house. (It would be easy to buy some new ones, but nobody has taken initiative) However, when needed, we find it useful to have multiple TVs going at the same time. The main TVs we use both require the previously explained batteries. When it comes down to the wire, all of us are able to control the Roku powered TV with our cell phones while the other remote is designated to controlling the main TV! Big Win!

The man from Malpaso. I waited a long time for great television to return, you see when I was a child television was great, but as I got older it lacked substance. So I went to a bunch of movies and had the greatest time. So I started to watch things that I thought would be fun to watch. But a lot of times it was boring. So fast forward to now, Roku is where they play the hits and even the misses aren’t that bad. But the best part about it is that they are free. So I dare say to you that television has finally arrived. Thank you so much to all those people who work so tirelessly to bring the movies that has substance. Thank you so much, and Congratulations for you have arrived. Even though it is a Documentary it was great to watch. Clint was one of my favorite actors of all time. 👍

Goooooooooood. That is so good because it means no more half team have to get up and look for the Roku remote every single day when stays Thursdays Fridays Mondays Sundays is a fair day I have to work on I don’t but this app helps you to not have to have to look for your remote every single day this is why I think this app is good you good are you you’re good I’m good are you good this app is the best app so I recommend it I have a five stars rating so this is why I think you should get this app this is the best app you could ever have for the TV remote and iPad it twice iPad is twice and my TV is second so this is why I recommend it so if you’re scared of the dark and you like TV I definitely recommend it to you so me and my monkey will have a safe sleep and no it will come with me what is that your flow to your flow two I’ll be back with this review come back for part two of my review

It’s Very Helpful!👍🏾. I have been using the Roku app for years and haven’t really had a problem with it. All my devices has the app downloaded on them, the app is amazing. It is super helpful because we don’t have an Roku remote right now because they all broke, but luckily there was the Roku app to save us😊 download this app it really works well. The only thing I have a problem with is it sometimes disconnects from the Tv and it gets really annoying having to unplug your tv and delete the app and download it again. That’s just a small problem that I have. But really download the app 10/10 recommend even if you do have a Roku remote. Totally works. If you don’t have a remote download this ! Do not download those phony apps those are not good download the original app😌 love it!

iPhone remote app for TLC ROKU. So far, this is the easiest, most reliable, user friendly remote app I have used. I tap on the icon, the app opens up, and it works perfectly for my needs. As I am getting on a bit age wise,(physically, mentally I think I’m still 25 sometimes, not always advantageous), I have found using the app on my iPhone 7S easier than the remote itself, because everything is right there on the screen to see, only larger, and only takes a light touch. I have found this to be a very useful, pleasantly reliable and user friendly app. Anyone who happens to have arthritis as I do I believe would find this app very helpful, and find a bit of relief from the occasional difficulty and frustration of not being able to hold that tiny remote, as opposed to the relative ease of holding the iPhone with an easy to see and easy to use interface.

Headset volume control. When I bought Roku, I actually purchased it because it was about half price, no other reason. In the past I had looked at Apple TV, but though I like most things Apple I never pulled the trigger. But I have quickly become comfortable with Roku, even though my TV provider offers some apps. I like simple, Roku gives you that. I have always wanted a way to connect my earbuds and listen to TV, without disturbing anyone else, Roku allows that too. I only have two complaints, one concern, one idea for improvement. My first is that when connected to my earbuds, the volume seems to not go up loud enough. It stops raising the volume quickly. Second, at times when loading HBO for instance, the app sticks, the little dots stop turning. At that point, I have to hit the home button and restart HBO or the like. I do understand this could be internet related, so not 100% sure it’s Roku. I am a retired expat, spend most of my time in Mexico, speak Spanish, read less. English is my first language. Why doesn’t Roku allow me to select the language I want to find solutions, regardless of where I am? And my idea, create a toggle icon, allows me two settings, English and Spanish for instance or your preferred language, easier and faster. Thanks for taking the time to read my idea and concerns.

How to improve Roku. I like how you can bookmark shows that are not playing on the air and where you can watch them on other channels. I wish that the programs that are available would provide the complete number of seasons that the program had originally created. Instead of offering only a few seasons. I HATE the two second warning before the ending of each program. You should change it to two minutes after the program had ended, before changing it to the next episode or live TV. It is frustrating to have to scramble for the remote, just to watch the last five seconds of your current television program. When using the pause button on a program, the wait time is too short, before it kicks off to a screen saver. It does not provide enough time for customers to read the close captions.

This update is garbage and tech support told me to get a new tv. I was streaming Toy Story with my son. He destroyed the remote months ago so we just use the app. After the movie was done playing the video turned off in Disney+ and I’m prompted to watch the next one. So I go on my phone to open the remote in the app like I’ve done for months with out an issue. The app has the pinwheel of death and never opens. I try this over and over with no success. I reach out to their tech support to find out when the issue in the app will be resolved because it seems like a server is down or something. They essentially tell me that I need to contact the tv manufacturer for a physical remote (if they even sell them like that) even though I have been doing fine using the app version for months now. If I can’t get a physical remote from the tv manufacturer I’ll need to get a new tv. Not sure why you have an app remote if it doesn’t work and ppl can’t rely on it. I hope this is just a bug in the release from 2 days ago and will be resolved soon.

Has some useful features. I recently received a new Roku Ultra as a gift, with the latest remote. The Roku itself has some useful features, but doesn’t include many important channels like CNN, local CBS, C-Span and several others. But Roku does offer a choice of at least a few other additional channels, and gives access to some recent and past programs from PBS, NBC etc to partially compensate. The Roku App suddenly became indispensable for me for using my Roku because my new “state of the art remote” stopped working after less than 10 days of use. The App does some of the the basic functions of the remote and has proven useful when you don’t have access to the remote itself, but it lacks several functions of the real remote. But it is better in some ways than a cheap, crappy Roku remote which stopped working within a few days. My Roku remote reflects very poorly on the quality of a Roku product.

Nice app. So this app is like the regular remote it’s useful when you lose your this app works good no issues I have had with it works normal you can also turn it up and most online remotes you can’t I recommend downloading if you have a Roku and lose your remote a lot like me or batteries die nice and good app handy!! I have siblings that watch the tv they lose the remote and this helps a lot when you wanna watch a show when you don’t wanna get up like me I am tired and don’t wanna get the remote so I use the app best free remote app I have ever had it even had a volume button. Handy it is just a great app in all I recommend downloading if you are tired a lot like me or your just not able to get up and get if either way it’s a great app!!!!

Customer service is garbage. Six weeks ago there was a glitch on my Roku app that caused my bank account to be incorrectly charged for $160 to this date. I have spoken with Roku several times. They tell me they’re going to process the refund then they tell me that they can’t. I disputed it with my bank, because I never authorize this transaction. My bank is trying to work with them and not getting anywhere. They are blaming the subscription company- who has already communicated with me that Roku was the one that processed the payment. Every time that I try to reach out to you guys. i’m getting a runaround. this is not the first time that I’ve been incorrectly charged - and the last time that this happened that I never got my money back. Do not add your credit card information or process payments through them. They are quick to take the payment but then they want to blame you and avoid giving you your money back when they rob you of your hard earned cash.

Frustrated. I want to love this device but unfortunately I just can’t. It has so much potential. The problem is that I’m on my second device. The first one had an internal memory issue. After talking with my cable tech support I found out this is a common occurrence. I decided to try again with Roku after talking with a family member who wasn’t having any problem with their’s. (Which they now are!) The newest one freezes when I watch a recording. I have to go out of the recording and go back in at which point it is then not in the correct place when it comes back on. It also has issues going through the guide. Now add the lack of real tech support to the mix. Ugh! Maybe I need to go back to Apple. I’m disappointed. I do not know if I want to buy a third. Oh and each of these were less then 6 months when problems started.

I love it. I love this so much because we lose the remote a lot. You can never sit down and just use the remote. You would have to use certain angle to use the remote. But now you can sit down on the couch and use your phone and use the app. There are also so many options, like you can play your own music from your music app, show photos and videos from your camera roll and tons of other things. I highly recommend this app. it’s so easy to connect to your TV too. One thing you should do is go to the last page and turn on the setting that says don’t sell my information. I don’t know what they do with it I think they use it for ads but if you don’t want anyone’s playing or using your information I will turn it off.

Useless app. I am extremely disappointed in this app. When I first downloaded it and used it a couple of times, it seemed to work well. After that it took longer and longer for it to initialize. Obviously this is the worst thing you could have since you want to use it WHEN you want to use it. Now, it will NOT connect at all. My devices, iPad and iPhone will clearly show the Roku devices so it’s not a matter of the devices not being available. I’ve checked my signal several times and it shows it is STRONG. I even recommended it to a friend after the first couple uses and I am embarrassed that I did. You can still view stuff from the gallery item at the bottom, but I got it for the Remote feature. It just won’t connect. I did try some trouble shooting, but this is just NOT well designed and is garbage, as an app, as far as I’m concerned. Both my Roku devices work well, but this Roku app is pure crap. And after looking at a couple other alternatives shown in Apple App Store, they seem to have some major drawbacks, which I don’t want.
