Not seeing new subscription. I subscribed to a digital only offer and the app will not see that new subscription. The CSR told me I had to go through a third-party vendor with the app, which sounded like I had to pay for a second duplicate subscription (probably at full price) in order to use the app. Why isn’t the app seeing my valid subscription? Fix this and I’ll update the rating. Or at least give instructions on how to get the app to see the subscription. Thank you

Finally, a search bar!. A much more functional app that is superior to the mobile site.

Unreadable mess full of ads. I paid for a subscription and I hate the ads. I cancelled my subscription.

Better than paper. I read the App seven days a week. The clean interface supports the informative writing. The ads are unobtrusive. My only wish is more ads and news from local small businesses.

Times union digital print.. Overall the news is pretty good. I find the reporting for the most part isn’t true journalism but the facts with a leftist twist. That may please many of the progressives that read the paper but not us middle of the road people. We have brains and can determine right and wrong. Another biggie of late is all the pop up ads you’ve added to digital news. They are fine if your offering free print but us paying customers should not being seeing ads. Continuing these ads will result in me dropping your subscription service.

Stop. Stop throwing my paper in the bushes

Fix a few break a couple. Finally able to swipe back to the main page with the update but now the ad’s keep closing and reopening the articles over and over making the app somewhat useless

Easy to use and convenient!. TIMES UNION for iPad is a well-designed app that is intuitive, stable, and accessible from anywhere. I love having my hometown news even when traveling. The pictures of local events load quickly and it is easy to send stories via email to out-of-town friends and family. Love this app - well worth the price of a full subscription.

A great convenience. Though there was an initial problem with the app's taking up too much space (it was automatically downloading and saving all editions, and the "delete" function to which I was alerted didn't function all that well), updates have addressed all that. The visual quality and the utter convenience are in the same ballpark as the New York Times app!

1 Poplar St, Rensselaer NY. We never got a TU today but got a Record! On Sundays we get 2 of all store papers if we are lucky plus a Record! I think our paper person has ??dunno?? Get them ready! MY just have to go buy them if this isn’t corrected and Been a LONG TIME WITH THIS GUY!! As seniors and Granddaughter of s Kn-TU RETIRED GRANDPA IN 1966 this is Inexcuseable!!

Terrible. Although the app is nearly usable, the editing is worse.

Worst app ever. Now, the app won’t even open on the latest iPad 9.7. Previously— I have been sending the TU corrective suggestions for a couple of years, and the same problems continue to plague the iPad app. Spillover of type has been corrected and then failed again and again. Recently, a new goof has appeared -- click on business and get sports. Also, recently, there were entire sections missing. I have given up reporting these errors, because it's frustrating enough to have to deal with them and my reporting doesn't seem to matter enough to fix the problems permanently.

Get your subscription act together. Apparently I’d been paying for multiple subscriptions. Cancelled one (took multiple attempts before the charges stopped), leaving a digital subscription which suddenly I can’t access. No thanks.

Terrible App. Awful. Stories not updated. Links often broken.

Good, but keeps getting worse. I like the app, and prefer it to the print version, even if they use the same photo for every blogger who reviews concerts. The problem is that every time they update the app, my iPad 2 seems to run the app slower, and some days the updated edition doesn't load until I quit the app, remove it from memory, and start again. Maybe it's being optimized for newer iPads, but it sure isn't helping me.

There’s a blank at the top of every page. I x it out and it pops back. Not good

Terrible new app. Always looked forward to reading app like the paper looked. You should make a section where you can download any edition to read. Take a lesson from the business reviews app. Took a vacation with no electronic devices and returned today looking to read the last 12 editions and I am not able or can’t figure out how to do it. If I could give it lower than a 1 star I would. Don’t change what has worked for years for people. Bring back the old app so you can call yourself a newspaper and us subscribers can read it and get the feel of a newspaper.

Great alternative to print. I like the app, with one exception. The obituaries do not display correctly. Clicking on a name will often bring a blank page. Sometimes going to another name and then back to the original will work. Other times...nothing! And this has been a consistent problem! Swiping through on the page will sometimes be ok, but then clicking on the display to show the full write-up often will yield a blank as well.

Online Version is often not consistent and current with paper version. W

Disappointing!. I am disappointed in this update. There is no search function, no contacts link, and the real estate section is gone—I always looked forward to going through the deeds and deals each week. It is not clear which articles are from the current day’s issue.

Ok. When a bug doesn’t crash the app or when you’re not bombarded with so many ads it crashes the app, it works. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Poor graphics. I’ve been reading the Portland Press Herald on line as well as the TU. Similar in size, demographics but the Portland paper is much easier to read and navigate. And seeing the graphics used in the print edition makes for a superior experience.

Too Much Spam. Change the articles everyday will ya?

Digital version. I would like to know why I don’t receive the deeds & transactions anymore. I’ve emailed & called and I have received no response

Problems. I can’t link my subscriber account and the app. I’ve tried multiple times, changed my passwords and still having issues

Cancelled subscription but charged anyway. I was a just charged for a subscription renewal for the digital times union and when I click in, there are no active subscriptions in my Apple subscriptions tab. This is ridiculous and now I have to go out of my way to contact them and figure out what went wrong

App does not work. Absolutely terrible. Print and digital subscriber, but cannot login on road.

Good Start. Good start for the Times Union on the iPad. Glad to have a chance to try out for 30 days for free. There is some room for improvement, though. Pros: $60 for a 1-year subscription is fairly reasonable, in my opinion. Can select daily editions of the newspaper as well as a "live" edition. Navigation within the app is generally intuitive, using swipes to advance to next page in section, to next section, to next page in article, and to next article. The "carousel" menu to select sections is a nice touch. Blog articles contain links to outside web pages using an in-app browser. Sections have an indicator for the number of pages. App works in both portrait and landscape modes. Cons: The app has a rather busy interface, with both top and bottom bars, a bottom banner, and a sidebar. (See the NYT app for a great design.) Each new page within an article needs to load, resulting in a delay as you page through an article. There's no indicator within an article for the number of pages. Seems to be no way to comment in blogs.

Wow- Major Improvement Nicely Done. The old app was awkward and unattractive. Rarely have I seen such dramatic improvement in an app. I read the paper much more often now given how easy it is to read and how attractive the new format is! So much more readable and accessible. And I like knowing more about my local community than I had the fortitude to learn from the off-putting old app.

Review. Sick of Churchill. Tired of reading repeats.

Is a great app. I

Horrible user experience. Good luck trying to actually read the news around all the pop up and slide-through ads. If I’m paying for news content, let me see the content without all the flashy distractions. I’ll cancel and grab local news from on-line channel news.

Keeping a watch on NY Politicians. One of the few papers that keep watch and report on the Government here and helps keep them on thier toes.

OK when it works. Useful when it downloads correctly. Unfortunately download problems happen 2-3 times a month - a pain for those of us that don't have a lot of time. When it works, this is a good app for those that want to quickly scan the news and then get more in-depth information elsewhere.

Kevin Callahan. I really enjoy this app. While my wife enjoys reading the print copy of the Times Union, I have not picked up a paper copy in a long time. This app works great with my I-pad. It is ergonomic and intuitive. It provides an excellent overview of all the stories via the handy content sidebar, and allows easy jumping between stories. I especially enjoy the ability to see the whole batch of pictures that go with each story. In my opinion this is the future of newsprint media! Great Job!

App not user friendly. Times Union app has too many pop up ads and they get in the way. Even Signed in with a digital subscription. The absolute worst.

Times Useless. If there was zero stars that’s what I’d give to this leftist, liberal, 1 sided newspaper; journalism is dead there as with almost all of the Pharma/Gov’t/Corp bought and paid for MSM

Overall good but.... Overall this is a very good app but I would like to see pics updated more frequently and older articles deleted. It's not unusual to see pics on the same pages for over a week. And older articles stay up for days even when there is a more current update. I would like to at least see dates on the articles. These would get all 5 stars from me.

Not user friendly. Password reset, take 24 hours to become valid, no mention of this, on forgot password page, called customer support, and they just said, use your browser.

Happy. Great reading Love restaurant reviews Need more horse racing info

Wrong day. Trying to read the Saturday paper and guess what it’s Friday paper what the heck !,,

T U layout. Preferred it when it was layer out like a news paper. Too much repetition in this layout.

As a dinosaur, I’ve gotten used to online. I am an old fashion person who looked forward to reading a daily traditional newspaper But I’m getting used to online. Still can’t find “Dear Abby”?

Albany TU. This APP is a work in progress. For the most part it runs smoothly. But occasionally it gets hung up opening and I have to abandon it. My husband likes to download it so he can read it while he travels and often he can't do that because it takes too long. And, the games section still needs tweaking... It is really great in concept, and hopefully as they continue to create updates they will work out the "bugs."

Same stories repeated for days. There is very little new content day to day. Surprisingly, there are more typos and misspellings than the hard copy version ever had.

Handy app. I read the TU on my iPad very morning almost. I like having this app when I am traveling so I can keep up. There is the New York Times, but does it have comics? No! Does it have local news, events, notices, etc.? No! I also like that I can email an article, that I can copy and print. I like the ability to read page by page like the hard copy version and see the pictures and layout and even ads, or switch to a list with tiny content to go through quickly and be more picky. The one thing it doesn't yet have is the scads of ads that come out on Saturday/Sunday versions of the printed paper. It does now carry Parade which is a recent addition. Could the scads of ads be far behind? Downloading of a page on rare occasions seems to freeze but usually available on returning to that page. Getting back to the comics, even though one can zoom in, the zoom is limited. Would like to see further zooming ability. Hard to read the comics to the kids when one has to squint to see the words.

The virtual Times Union. As a subscriber, I cannot praise the TU website enough. I particularly like the virtual version of the print edition. Seeing the paper on my tablet exactly like the hard copy is excellent.

Great down to earth reporting. The tone and attitude is down to earth and informative.

Review. The times Union is good reporting local news statewide and national news has a very progressive, liberal bias. Your editorials are supportive of left wing positions. Your columnists are liberal and progressive. All events are viewed through a liberal left leaning prism. You can improve by being more centrist.

Frustrating….. The website crashes EVERY day when trying to open stories

Good Content But Too Slow. I have generally enjoyed reading the T-U on my iPad, but it has always been too slow, a problem that has gotten significantly worse lately. Yesterday, it would not load for several minutes. Today it also took a while, but is missing content. All of the other papers I read are much quicker.

Pretty Good. It has the potential to be really great. I would like to see the full paper and website features integrated into it a bit more (classifieds, coupons, web content, seen, etc). Overall nice app.

Very Good App. Very easy to navigate and able to find stories that are of interest. It does tend to freeze up while scrolling and will send me to an article I don't want when this happens.

Terrible. My app stopped working. Won’t link to my print edition. Representatives of the Times Union told me over a week ago that it is internal on their end. Terrible. I am disappointed. I get paper delivery at two locations

TU Refuses to Fix Known Bug. When opening an article in landscape mode in font 5, the bottom part of the article is obscured by the ad. The app has had this problem since its inception. I've been promised for years via email that this known bug will be fixed with the next app update. It remains after each update.

Times Union. Slow loading much of the time. Ads at the bottom of page cover content.

Disappointing. When I first saw the new app I liked the look of it. However I have discovered many shortcomings. These include loss of the crossword puzzle, lack of a search function, lack of detail in the obituaries and fewer news stories. I still like the look but there does not seem to be any interest by the TU in fixing the many deficiencies.

Good app but 2 issues. Love this app but two issues must be addressed. First is that opening up app in the morning is a problem. Sometimes it won't open up at all and I don't get to read the paper. Second, having ads blocking portions of an article that I am reading and being unable to move it out of the way. Fix these two issues and I will be a very happy customer.

Great app. This is a great app. It's exactly what newspapers should do to stay up with the digital world. I hope that this is a trend in the industry. Newspaper's are position perfectly to provide us with in-depth coverage and the Times Union does that so very well. Combining a newspaper's indepth coverage with digital content, such as video, up-to-date weather and breaking news stories is a win-win.

TU App - Does it work today?. Does it work today? No. Did it work yesterday? No. It gets hung up on updating latest edition. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. If it does not work you have three options. 1. Wait it out and hope it will work tomorrow. 2. Delete and reload app and hope it work (or you'll have to wait until tomorrow) 3. Read the print copy (but it wasn't delivered yet). All in all the app really does not work that well. UPDATE: Has been uploading for days. So I have say the app really does not work that has gone the app that does not work at all. Maybe it is time to take the app down and fix it. It now useless!

Crashes frequently. If this app didn't crash multiple times while trying to read an article then it would be perfect and I would really enjoy reading the TU. Instead I end up moving on to a different app to read the daily news without frustration. FYI, using an iPad, not sure if this is just an issue with iPad.

Going backwards. I keep trying to love this update, but can’t. The Times Union is a great newspaper, but the old app, while unstable at times, was easier to navigate and felt more like reading a newspaper. If you’re new to the app, you will like it for the content. If you were satisfied with the old app, prepare to be frustrated.

Stopped getting Sunday edition back in June. I bought a year of the ipad edition along with Sunday delivery of the physical paper. I stopped getting the Sunday delivery in June; TU customer service claims to have no idea what I am talking about. Every few days they call and ask if I would be interested in subscribing. I tell them I am already a subscriber. I've sent them my itunes receipt multiple times.

Easy to use, loading unpredictable. I like the app when it works. Easy to navigate with user friendly layout. Occasionally app won't load when opened which is frustrating.

Former loyal subscriber. On the Obituary page there is a line that directs the reader to scroll on the line if you want to scroll the remaining obituaries. When you scroll on that line it advances to the next section. I communicated this flaw to the Times Union staff. They said it wasn't a problem. Clearly it is. Try it. Ok...it's over 18 months and its still defective. Apparently this rating system is worthless

Nice start!. I am a current paper subscriber and this is a nice app. It's a bit slow loading to start and navigating, but overall it's a good app. Thanks for making it. I find I now read the Times Union more than once per day.

Very disappointing. I am very disappointed in this app. Limited articles and many of them are days old.

Very disappointing. I will no longer subscribe to the TU. This app is awful. The old one looked like a newspaper and was very easy to read. Now I might just as well go to the TU website. I read through the other reviews and agree with every one of them. You even eliminated the crossword puzzles. My 94 year old mother looked forward to doing them every day. I wish you would reinstate the old app.

This is how I start my day!. This is a wonderful app! The navigation is clear and easy. Going from one day to another or one section to another is quick as a push or a finger swipe. There are two editions of each daily paper, one that comes out in the morning and one that is updated regularly as news happens. My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that some pictures cannot reproduce well online particularly of those in the obituaries. The online version makes the price of a subscription more than worthwhile.

Works fine. Over a year ago I switched to having TU delivered Thursday and Sunday only. The rest of the week I use this app to read it on my iPad. It works great, easy to read, easy to move between articles using panel on the right. And amount of paper in recycle box greatly reduced. Strongly recommend.

Constant and Clownishly large ad banner ruins OK effort.... App was a bit hard to start due to vague instructions... Once running, all OK....until we found the constantly present and clownishly large ad banner .....This ruined the app for us and was a deal breaker... I hope the pennies of profit they made with the amateurish ad banner were worth the dollars they lost on my cancelled app subscription.

This app has now become useless. I tried to update the app on my iPad today. It now won't start at all, keeps asking me to sign in, and then telling me that the sign-in is incorrect. Then I ask to get a new password, and the email with the link to reset the password never comes. I've removed and reinstalled the app numerous times today. I'm ready to give up.

Bizarre. Every time I try to login it tells me I have to link my subscription. I go through all the steps and link the subscription yet it still tells me I have no stories left. I close the app try again and it tells me I have to link the subscription again even though it shows me is having already linked the subscription. Really just a garbage app.

Great when I am out of town!. This very nice to look at when we are away. We can stay updated, and not have to wait to return, and have to skim through 5 or 6 papers. I only wish it had the jumble words from the paper copy. I do have to update every day or it takes a longer time. Much better than other online local papers in Capital area.

No Longer a Newspaper. Instead of being able to read today’s paper by flipping through page by page, the T-U online version is now like every other news outlet app - stories scattered, scrolling required, and no line between new and old articles. A bummer, since I have read online T-U daily all over the world due to its straightforward simplicity and discrete daily editions.

Times Union. I thoroughly enjoy it. However, since the latest iOS upgrade, there is a glitch with the crosswords. Clues and arrows do not appear in the horizontal bar just below the puzzle. Thus, navigating is harder and some clues are too long to appear in their totality in the lists of clues. Thank you ahead of time for correcting that.

Better than print. Better than print....more pictures, love the new automatic download feature.

It does work ...... The newest update for iOS 5 seemed to have fixed the crash on start up problem. So far so good. Thanks for the quick turn around ...

Not bad, but could be better. I've used a lot of apps for my news, but this is one of the more unique ones. If it wasn't loaded with ads or crashed every 5 seconds I'd probably give it 5 stars. Additionally, it NEEDS to be modernized, I would like to see an option to download the paper offline from the app. All and all not bad, but it could be better

One of the best. WOW!!!!! I use a lot of different apps and this is the best I have used. It is incredibly easy and quick to move from article to article, section to section and edition to edition. Many features designed to female it easy and fast. Many could learn how to write an app by reviewing this one. Great job!!!!!!!

Good content layout has much to be desired. Have always enjoyed the times union but if you want to see a great layout of a newspaper, check out the Boston globe e edition. Wish the times union would adopt the same format. This app loads slow and doesn't always show up as a new issue on newsstand. Wish the times would report on a little more good news instead of so much doom and gloom constantly.

M.tosh. I love getting the Times Union on my iPad! Now I can read it bright and early before the paper copy arrives. I would like to get all of the political cartoons. Some are missing because of the paper's copyright law,as I understand.

Works for me. Almost like being home when your away from home. I can talk to my children and grandchildren about whats going on around town. The online version is good but this gets delivered right to my Ipad it easier and not that costly.

Love this app. I use this app every day in addition to the print copy. I prefer to read the longer articles on line so I can adjust the print size. I also use the app to reread articles for reference later. It's a "neat" way to do the crossword puzzle; corrections are easy and don't show. I also rely on this app when I'm traveling and wnt the local news.

Love it. I use the app whenever I travel which is a lot. The only difficulty is getting it started. I don't think I've ever had it crash. It may be my old iPad or weak connectivity. Navigating is easy. Love the content and organization of the site.

App gone bad, again!. What is going on with this app lately? It won't load, or it says "Updating Editions Data" for over 1/2 hour......I think some one from management really needs to look into this. Or at a minimum how about a explanation on the web site, like "sorry we are experiencing technical difficulties"

Excellent on iPad. I recently subscribed to online access to the TU, but I didn’t like the website version of the newspaper. Too much clickbait, too many animated ads, too many junk ads. This app eliminates all the junk. And it’s as good as any of the top newspaper apps - NYT, WaPo. Well done.

OK app, web version quicker. Takes longer to load than just going to the web site, but seems more fun. I usually end up just going to the web site.

Great application. This is much better than the old app for the TU which just had links to a few stories. When i travel out of town I can access the full paper and keep up on the news. Keep up the good work!

The app works as it should. I'm at a loss to understand the negative reviews. I've used the app for over two years and have never experienced the problems described by the unhappy reviewers. I have found that all of the features work, and work well. The app makes reading the paper easy and enjoyable.

Right at my fingertips. It is nice to have the morning edition along with an update that arrives later, what else could you ask for and all at my fingertips. No paper to accumulate each week for recycling.

Times Union. I switched over to the electronic edition and have been very happy. It's easy to check in on the local news, and the 'swipe' to each section makes navigating pretty seamless. I have not had any of the problems described by other reviewers, but I only use the app 2-3 times per week to stay on top of local news.

Terrible update. If it’s not broke don’t break it. You can’t tell what is old or new. I like to quickly look at the obituaries each morning. Instead of seeing a photo of the deceased, the city, and whether it is recent or in memory of, I only see a list of 50 names. I would have to open each one to decide if I wanted to read further. Would much prefer the old edition.

New App Disapointing. The new app is disappointing to say the least. The TU replaced a very user friendly, news filled app with a new version that offers only a portion of the paper even though you are a paid subscriber. It also doesn’t offer and feature to customize the app, ie adjust font size. I am extremely disappointed. The only reason I gave it one star was because you can’t post a review otherwise.

Disappointed. Sorry, I wanted to like it but the old app was much better, maybe it was just more familiar and newspaper like. Also, I’m getting notices that I “only have [x number] of articles” that I’m eligible to read, which I don’t understand since I pay a subscription fee.

Easy to use. I have found this app very easy to use. Navigation is simple and explained in the help section, if needed.

Best newspaper app I've used. Latest version has a glitch. Bottom ad covers the newsprint. Must rotate the iPad to landscape or portrait and back again to make ad and story print align properly. Also, saving issue for offline reading does not always work.

Excellent App. Really great application design. Includes recent back issues, has an intuitive interface for changing sections. Better than the NY Times app. (Not better than the Times content, but that's a different issue.)

Great app. I like the download version of this app much better than the previous version. I would prefer a download version that automatically downloads the articles before opening the app. To prevent unnecessary traffic it could be set up to download today's version if yesterday's paper was read.

Allbany Times Union for iPad. I like the app - it allows for easy navigation between pages and sections and the layout is clear; the photo galleries are great and I like having the choice between the morning edition and the "live" edition. It's a really great alternative to the print version.
