$8 = Real Price. Great app for learning to differentiate between various pitches. The basic version is a good start, but most people would want the "pro" add-on for the extra $$. With that, I like that they give you an example track of a female vocalist, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, etc. and you are expected to tell what frequencies have been adjusted with those tracks. It's easy to get tired of hearing the same example track over and over, but I guess you could load some samples into itunes and use those for identifying various frequencies (instead of just using songs by your favorite artists). The grading system is very simple to understand and the layout looks great and is easy to use. Very happy customer here - Thanks (also, works great on iOs 8.3 - iPhone 6).

Really helpful. I just really like it. It’s a nice tool to add. - DJ Bomb

EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Being a computer based music producer, I have had a hard time getting the hang of equalizing my tracks in order to make them fit in the mix. However, since I've started using this app, I can already recognize which frequencies are missing or overused within my mixes. So I truly thank you for creating this app!

Trained me up well!. This app helped me become MUCH faster with EQ, and helped me know with greater precision what I'm hearing all around .

Excellent for Audio Students!. I’m currently in school taking recording classes and we are supposed to be using the Golden Ears training program to study frequencies etc. That program is way too expensive for me and I can’t book studio time just to practice this. This app has been invaluable for identifying frequencies and pink noise/music EQ cut and boosts. Super happy with my purchase!

Great app...but. Why won’t the app work in landscape on iPad? And the layout of quizzes seems counterproductive. Start with easy on top and work down to more difficult? A few other things make it seem very unpolished for such an established app.

Much love for this app!. Think this is one of the coolest apps ever made. Wish I had it growing up.

Awesome app. Thank you Jesus for this app!!!!! I have been learning to record for some years with Logic Pro and hillbillyin stuff together and made a lot of progress. This app, if I will just use it, will put me in over the top on making decisions about mixes before I turn knobs. Very smart app, and priceless in my opinion for exercising my ears. Well done and thank you again!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing training for FOH engineers. Love the app. It is great for Audio Engineers to learn and fine tune his/her craft.

Great app for the price. This had helped me a LOT. Not only can I determine frequency and gain changes much more easily after using it, I'm able to hear many suble differences in sound qualities that I couldn't before. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it would probably cut the time it takes to train your ears if it had an option to let the exercise keep playing until you tell it to go on to the next one. That way, you could hear the difference after you've already guessed it. That would really help to learn the differences more easily. The way it is now, it stops playing as soon as you guys correctly, so you don't get a chance to memorize how a particular change sounds. That's a pretty big oversight IMO.

I love it. I am definitely making progress, but I wish it kept track of my scores so I could see my improvement over time. I feel like that would be really motivating. Is that really difficult to implement?

Just use online sites. There are free and better websites. Don’t waste your time

Fantastic training app!. I've owned this app for a few years now. Always loved it. It has helped immensely with my frequency range identification for both instruments in mixing, as well as finding feedback frequencies while mixing for live sound. Phenomenal app, highly recommend it. I own the iOS and desktop version. Totally worth it.

Would give a 3.5. At first I didn't like this app, but then I dove into all the training games and changed my rating. The sine wave frequency training isn't the best, but what I found very useful is the eq section: three different levels for various instruments and a section for your own music! There's free stuff online out there, so the $7.99 is a bit much.

Awesome tool for ear training.... I love this app. It's almost perfect. The only thing that it lacks is the option to be tested on specific frequencies. For example you can't limit the quizzes to say, 1k-4k. So for a beginner, it's difficult to dial in on the differences in close octaves and can be frustrating at times to keep missing something because you can't limit your practice to specific octaves only. Other than that, this app is incredible. 5 stars if they add the option to limit quizzes to specific ranges.

Great app. I would have given it five stars, if there have been an autoplay next option. This would give you the opportunity to take your eyes off the screen, so that you make your first guess from what you hear, not from what you see as available choices.

AMAZING. My audio engineer professor recommended this app to help us understand frequencies better. It’s helped so much!!!!!

I LOVE THIS APP. Has taken my ability to hear frequencies to heights I never imagined was possible at this point in my career. This app is a game changer. Be consistent with it and it will change the way you hear music.

Great training. What a cool app,Great training

Highly recommend. Keep your ears "in shape" (functionally not aesthetically). If you don't use it you lose it.

Absolutely Wonderful Tool. The Quiztones app is far and away the best app I've purchased. It's an incredible tool for all audio engineers and musicians. The app is a wonderful way to turn that wait at the doctors office, layover at the airport, bus ride home, etc. into a chance to sharpen your ear. My mixing has improved by leaps and bounds after just a few weeks with Quiztones. The iPod feature in version 1.5 is an excellent addition. Buy this app! You won't regret it.

Partial functionality. EQ option will not open my Apple Music files.

Great start with lots of potential. EDIT: Raised to 4 stars after recent fix. Great app, excellent for frequency ear training. Only one feature request: The choose your own music feature plays the same section over and over for the whole test. It would be great to see it choose different sections, at least as an option, otherwise it's a bit tiring. For the price, I would expect to see a little more depth. Overall, good stuff!

Good app, subscription is greedy. It’s a great tool but charging $15 monthly is a bit ridiculous. Would happily pay $20 once for everything or a few dollars here and there for certain quizzes or functionalities. Currently the pricing model is all or nothing in regards to features. I would even tolerate ads, just not $15 a month.

I wish there was a BIT more customization. I love this app - it’s simple and straightforward. I’d suggest being able to select certain FQs to practice instead of them all.

Awesome Tool. This has helped me be able to identify frequencies much quicker which saves me time and money!

This is fantastic. I’m a bit of a workaholic, and blind, audio engineer. This is like the holy grail of an iOS game for me. It’s simultaneously fun and productive. I can play on the go to have better ideas of what I’m hearing on my phone for later correction in Pro Tools, or plug into one of my monitor sets at home to test my instinct... and it’s a game, with categories and scores. Much respect ✌️

So helpful!. This app is super easy to navigate and understand and so helpful with ear training. Definitely worth it for the inexpensive annual membership!

Great tool for Engineers. Ear training at its best.

Great training app when away the studio!. I use this everyday in the morning, and it's improving both my speed and accuracy in my studio. Great stuff!

Universal Purchase option would make it 5 stars. If there was an option to have an upgrade path to both the OS X and iOS version, this app would be 5 stars and more. Also a tone generator would be awesome, especially if there were multiple waveforms.

It's not bad. I am currently enrolled in MTSU's Audio Production program and this app is recommended as a tool to help outside of a class called "Critical Listening". The app is pretty similar to the training we do in class with the Golden Ears disc set. I love the option to choose a song from your phone's library to use. It's very important to have a collection of songs you know really well to use as a solid reference. If you pick a song that you really enjoy and just know how it sounds, it makes it easier for you to pinpoint where the problem is when the boost/cut is turned on (too bright, muddy bass, telephone effect, midrange honk, etc.) I think it would be nice to have a review option maybe after each question or after you complete the set of 10. Maybe the boost/cut is at 2K but you choose 1K, if you could revisit the question and had the option to compare the 2K boost to the 1K boost it would help you distinguish between them. Also I read another review that suggested a kind of tutorial/introduction for the newcomers. I think this would also be a good addition seeing as how it would help someone who is just starting out develop the associations of the change characteristics to the name of the frequency band. (Brightness = 8K/16K, Telephone effect = 1K/2K, etc.) All-in-all it's not bad, especially alongside any similar ear training courses or lessons.

Money Trap. One of the sh…ty new apps that set up a payment trap inside. Most content is locked. If you unlock, you are taking a subscription with their so called pro level. Whatever it is, no need for that. Deleted after downloading.

Couldn’t use Apple Music library. Tried this and nearly all of the songs in my library couldn’t be used because they’re DRM-protected. Also started in the middle of the song and looped like 10 seconds. I can’t do anything with 10 seconds of banjo!

Not a $5 App...yet. This is a cool concept, and hopefully just a starting point, for what could be a great learning tool. The app is split into 3 quiz sections: tones, EQ, and gain. It's straight forward, and you get a score at the end of each quiz. The only suggestion I have about improving the tone section would be the addition of progress tracking; as the scores don't show a comparison to your prior performance. The other two types of quizzes (EQ and gain) are a little more complicated to work with. The concept is interesting, but it still needs a little work. You can play a song from your library, or choose from stock instrument recording (guitar, drums, bass) and the app will boost certain frequencies, or the gain by a certain amount. Your supposed to identify which frequency is being boosted, or how much gain is added, but there is no "clean"comparison track to reference. This makes it feel less like a controlled experiment and more like a guessing game. I'm sure some individuals with well trained ears could easily point out what mine can't, but then they would have no use for this app. If this is meant to guide untrained ears; a reference track is essential. To add to this feeling of playing the quizzes blind, the app has very limited and vague instructions, no tutorial, FAQ, or contact info. As for support; I found no way to get in touch with them on their website while navigating it on my phone. I could have checked out their full version on my laptop, but figured since this was an iOS app, I should stick to my phone. I hope the updates improve upon this, otherwise this is definitely not a $5 app yet.

Excellent. As others have stated, it would be nice to use a whole song from your music library instead of short clips that loop. One feature I would like to see is the ability to hear what one's wrong answer would sound like. For instance, if your doing the easy tone quizzes and it plays a 1kHz sine and one selects 2k as the answer, The button should shake or light up red and then play a 2k sine. This sort of feedback to a wrong answer would help me to better distinguish problem areas frequency wise. Another great feature would be the ability to take quizzes on individual instruments in the context of a multiple instrument mix. Also, add compression quizzes! Thanks keep up the fine appin

Must have!. I honestly have no idea where these negative comments are coming from. If all you are using it for is to identify tones then you are missing the point of the app. This has done wonders for my mixing skills. Immediately Finding problematic frequencies in sources is now a no brainer. I've told everyone I know to use this bad boy. It's done great things for me.

Not fully accessible for the blind. It’s a good concept, but it is not fully accessible for blind users. It does not describe what the buttons are, it does not let you choose an answer, it does not let you choose a song from your library, it doesn’t even read you what the question is. It’s kind of confusing to navigate as well. Please make it accessible, if not give me my money back! And I’ll go ahead and let other blind users not to purchase this app. I would definitely change my review if it gets updated and becomes accessible.

not informative.. the app has no tutorials. it does not explain anything. if you are already a well versed audio engineer it might be fine but to anyone else, no. i just wasted $5

Finally an app worth having. This app is great! I can't get enough and I want more! Please keep providing updates with greater difficulty, and make sure the quiz tones/tracks play in random order. Can u include a section where u just listen to different frequencies? And what happened to the practice section? Please bring that back in the next update! Thanks!!

Great!. Wonderful app and very easy to use. I would like to see an added ability to change songs with the same difficulty while listening to music with boosted/attenuated frequencies. Right now, it seems if you're listening to song "A" on easy, you can't just choose song "B" while remaining on easy. Maybe a link after the quiz to change songs in addition to play again.

Really?. What a joke. I bought this because the far superior DDT Feedback app does not work anymore. I spent 5 bucks just wanting a feedback identification trainer. Well, the 1 octave version is great for beginners, but way too easy for me. Apparently I have to buy the pro version to unlock the 1/3rd octave function. Cool. I bought this app for $4.99, now I have to spend god knows how much to make it useful. I'd at least like to know how much it costs before to upgrade to pro. But apparently that needs to be kept secret as well. Great job.

Good app for ear training for audio engineering. I wish this app had a way to track progress. I would have given it 5-stars if it had a way to track progress.

NO CHANGE IN EQ. I don’t know what it is but I seriously could not hear the 10db boost in any of the quizzes. And I’m not crazy because I took the same piece of music and went to logic and boosted the same frequency up by 10 dB and it was an OBVIOUS boost but in the app the EQ boost was not there. If this is a bug then please fix it soon because I’m wasting my money. Edit: I didn’t realize you had to toggle the on and off switch. You know if you could put that in as a message before the quiz started that would be great.

Not a waste of time. Super useful for any sound engineer. Actually a reason to pick up my phone. Devs: 1 bug so far. The "random" aspect of the answers in the eq quiz isn't so random. It's only the highest or lowest option when it's 63hz or 16k, otherwise it's always one of the middle 2 (out of the 4 choices). This is in easy and advanced mode. Takes a bit of the fun out of it. Small niggle, thank you for an app worthy of phone time.

Essential for any audio student. Simple to use, great for practicing quickly and frequently, on the go, etc.

Great app to improve and practice but it doesn't teach you. Read Matthew's review below on which I agree too! That and some basic guide lines or tutorials would be nice like the qualities of boosting and cutting certain frequencies so that u can have a point of reference if Ur a beginner instead of a hit or miss approach. That and adding a range limiter so u can practice a certain octave would make this app a juggernaut. But I'm still happy as hell with my puchase.

Quiztones will help your mixes!. I love the fact that I can stream this app to my car stereo and study various eq choices to improve my mixes. I make final decisions in the car for my mixes. This app helps me better understand what those decisions will sound like. Definitely worth it!

Waste of money. Very limited features and quizzes...

Awesome. This is really helpful tool. I would suggest adding lessons on Panning, Compression Ratio, Release, Attack, and Mid/Side if that’s a possible lesson. That would really help.

Nice Work!. Fantastic! I cant believe no one has reviewed this??? I'm dying for you guys to bring out some dynamic compression drills as well:-)

Eq with own music doesn't work. Pretty much the main reason I paid the money for this app...

Love the new design. Really sleek new look, and the new icon immediately caught my eye. As for the app itself, it's helpful for me to keep myself familiar with identifying frequencies. It'd be cool if the app recorded high scores and progress.

Simple and efficient. The price tag might be a bit too steep in my opinion but you’re definitely getting what you paid for. Allowing you to not only use your own music library but pre recorded samples as well makes this app perfect for its intended purpose. The only feedback I would have is it would be great if your results saved so you can check them over time and see how you’re progressing. I know I personally have trouble determining the difference between 250-350Hz and it would be great if I could see my progression!

Excellent. This app is great. With good studio headphones you get accurate sound witch tests your ears well to learn frequencies from sign waves to instruments and vox. This is a must have for any sound technician and the like.

Quiztones. Great app for anyone who wants to get better at mixing.

not working on iOS 8. the ability to choose your own songs no longer works making it next to useless! please fix as i need my quiztone fix!

Only two options for Tone testing?. The main reason I picked this up is to better my skills on hearing frequencies. Judging by the name and the good reviews, I thought this app would be perfect for me. But this app has been a massive letdown. There are only two difficulties and they are extreme opposites of each other: Easy, which is almost embarrassingly simple. And Expert, which is across a tiny 1/3 octave range (wayyyy too difficult for now). There must be a way to have some difficulties between these, no? I've peaked through the EQ and Gain sections and they are much more thorough and cover almost anything you'd ever want. I just don't understand how an app called "Quiztones" could put so little effort into the Tones section and be okay with charging $6 (on sale) for.

ios 6 bug plz fix. This is my favourite app of all time. In ios 6 you can't hear the sound. Kind of important in this app to be able to listen. I hope it is fixed soon. This is the greatest recording engineer ear training piece of software ever made. I love you please fix the bug quick. And everyone buy this app because you might not have the same bug, and if you aren't running ios6 it will work perfect and will be your favourite app of all time.

Very useful. Great ear training. Simple, useful and efficient.

Excellent app. No doubt one of the best apps on my iPad. Want to master your hearing? Buy this! And one for your friend too. Thanks for the quick bug fix. This thing goes on my dock!

iTunes music not working. iTunes library doesn't work

Overpriced. It is okay in basic function. The eq testing could do with a broader range of difficulties. The feature I think that is missing for the price is any kind of historical score tracking. Which tests have I done and how well am I improving over time?

Too. Save the score ?!.. Paid again for 1/3 octave game ... For 4.99$, Good concept but .....

I like it.. This will definitely be a big help, and here I thought I was a pro

Crashes. when trying to load My Tunes (itunes song).

Revolutionary tool for producers. I got this app after using the online version on Quiztones.net. After using for 30 min a day for a couple weeks I MASSIVELY improved my mixdowns, clarity and phatness in my tunes. Get it, use it, very powerful!

Great App!. Every audio engineer should have this on their iphone/ipod. Great training tool and a great way to conveniently hone your craft during those random downtimes and even worthy of setting aside time to quiz yourself for regular ear training. Invaluable tool! WELL worthy the 2.99!

Great app!. Definitely helps a lot with frequency recognition.

4/5. This is a good app, seems to work well. When I try to play my own music the song selection window just closes the reopens.

Simple concept that no ones capitalized on. having been recently thrown into a job where I HAVE to have an accurate ear, I'm finding this insanely helpful. Well done.

An essential tool for the musically curious.. This is a great tool, especially for students. Train those ears!

Keep developing this 4.5/5. 4.5 if I could give 1/2 stars. I really like this app. Features that would make it even more competitive with online platforms: a compression type quiz (start with ratios, then maybe add attack/release controls, in ms?). A panning quiz (% L or R). A mid-side training function (EQ or compression). A distortion/harmonic saturation type quiz, either what order harmonics or another % wet/dry like compression. Heck, even as simple as, which is more ‘effected’. A quiz to try and guess the delay in ms (handy for a systems engineer). There are so many possibilities! Don’t get lazy. Develop this app.

Love this app!!!. I've been looking for great tool to train my ears! This is it!!!

Great job!. This app is incredible! Finally a good ear training app for audio engineers!

Pros love it.. Fun app & pro audio coworkers agree. My young nephew's favorite game. Great suggestions from Danwedge's review. Agreed, Danwedge. Thanks, Audiofile Engineering.

Almost. Great potential. Buggy (some sounds fail to play), and wants more money after initial purchase. Boost and cut recognition tests are good. Check back in 6 months - hopefully will develop further.

Cool. Great ear training. However, when I try to use songs from my library it just jumps right back to song selection after I tap a song to train. If fixed its a 5 star

It's ok. Certainly not a bad way to learn frequencies, but they try and get you to buy the "pro" version after you buy the app. Come on dude, I took a chance on you, don't shaft me...

Must have for audio Engineers!. An audio Engineer that sits around and thinks he is too good to train his ears is like an athlete that does no training and expects to do well in a race. This is a good tool and well setup.

Ok but. Has no learning / training mode

Engineer. Useful quizzes; was a bit disappointed to have to pay an additional $3 for 1/3 octave expert mode making the app a total of $8. Otherwise, it's a fun application.

Beware of excessive in-app purchase. To unlock even very basic levels, actually, any level other than "easy", it's another $2.99. Really? The screenshots are misleading.

$5 then they make you buy the full version. U crazy

Great App!. Great app that will only get better with time. Recommend it for new and advanced engineers, and people looking to sharpen their ear. A must buy for the engineering community.

Needs To Utilize Spaced Repetition. I like the interface of this app, but it needs to be redesigned using a spaced repetition method. The app right now currently just jumps you into the frequency test, without teaching what each frequency sounds like. If spaced repetition was utilized, the frequencies can be more easily remembered.

Just a advice. The app is good and works very well, but I think if guys can put a little detail when you are answering the question why not the frequency sound like the frequency I mean the wrong answer sounds like the wrong answer I think it's a way to learn fast.

Glitchy. Songs will not load. I bought this with the intent of using my reference songs, and can't get them to work. On top of paying the app price, I also paid an additional fee to upgrade, and none of the issues were resolved.

Bug in iOS 7+. Not opening my iTunes music iOS 7. Also, you have to pay $3 more to access all features.

Useful. Great way to put names (or numbers) to audio frequencies. Helps me communicate with other audio engineers.

Oh My Quiztones. What a great idea! As a professional mix engineer I'm boosting and cutting frequencies on the regular. Quiztones allows me to show my family a slice of what I do for a living and is super fun to use. The in-app bonus purchases provide even more value to this stellar, stable app. Rock on Quiztones!

Live Sound Engineer. Simply fantastic!

Excellent!. Great app! Well made, user friendly. Love it!

FANTASTIC!. I absolutely love this app! (Would also, as others have stated, like to hear a whole song instead of clips.)

Ipod touch 3 IOS 5.1.1. The App is good, but don't work when load my songs in ios 5.1.1

Cannot select a song for quiz. Trying to do the eq quiz. Every song I select says that a clip cannot be created, select another song. Secondly, this puts you in an endless loop when trying to cancel out of song selection screen. Hitting cancel takes you back to eq quiz screen, but immediately launches back into select a song. 8 bucks is too much for this app. Disappointed.

Great App. The quizzes using songs from your own music is especially dope

Great ear-training tool. I use this every day to hone acuity and pitch recognition. Really well constructed and helpful app. I would buy this again anytime....

Misleading. I purchased it but it only came with one level not the multiple levels shown in the description. Seems you have to pay more to get anything useful. Way overpriced!

THANK YOU. Been looking for something like this forever. I'm a musician w/ EQ issues, and couldn't be happier to have a way to start chipping away at them. Really looking forward to updates.

Really nice app, but the marketing is a bit sneaky. Nice little app to quiz yourself and tune sound skills when you're bored... I really like it! I do wish they would just charge you 8.99 from the start (because you'll end up paying it), but still quite happy.

Love this App. This app is great for all levels from beginner to expert. it is helping me train my ears to hear different frequencies a must have

Frustrated!. Whenever I select a song for "my music" it doesn't work. But I love the app.

Not for professionals.. I feel like more can be gained with a signal generator (free ones available) and a 31 band EQ. Good for the novice trying to get a start though.

Helpful. This has been one of the more helpful tools in learning frequencies. Buying the pro package is great idea if you have trouble EQing instruments. They also have a version to buy in the App Store for Mac that's great.

Great Update. I've had this app for several months and it's been amazing. With the addition of using your own library within the app is great. Love the new look and feel of the app. Great Job!

Good for Beginners. I mean, the whole buy then buy again is pretty darn Lame so off two stars, but the fact that it doesn't keep track of your performance is stupid (off two more stars). How would you see what you need to improve.... What are the points for??!! And instead of a Sine Wave Test Tone, you guys should get real life examples of feedback. I don't know, maybe just One same recording with a 32 band provoked over a mic and speaker to simulate. That would be 32 samples, multiplied by however many intensities you want, let's say 3- easy, Hard, and expert. This is a great tool, but let's improve it for the sake of this awesome app. It would be a shame for this potential to stay the same. Great App for beginners thou :) (1 star) 👍

Actual cost is at least $7. I feel like the developers are trying desperately to trick people because they are poor and cannot get gigs themselves.

C'mon man.... Five dollars and then you have to pay more money to get the pro version? Ridiculous!I should have read the reviews prior to purchasing.
