Been using this app for years and I'm done.. I pretty much only get Star Wars comics from Dark Horse but now whenever I purchase one it just says pending and doesn't put it in my collection. I tried resetting data and multiple other things for about an hour (starting at 3am when I wanted to read a simple issue before bed). I ended up having to get out of bed to turn on the computer, to go to the website, to put in my information to purchase the comic digitally through there even though it told me I already purchased it in the app. Something tells me it billed twice for the same issue and I'm going to have to call and fix this tomorrow. Yes I was signed in on my phone where I was purchasing it originally to the same account I had to log into on my computer. This is beyond frustrating to me. I don't know if this is because they're making transitions to Marvel and I don't care, it shouldn't happen. Comixology is just the better app. I don't have to always sync or reset and the zoom in on panel feature is better and is actually completely focused on one panel. Just writing this making me realize all the little things this app fails on. I wish Dark Horse would get with the program and join Comixology already. And would it kill to put volumes for digital sale? Just...ugh.. Never again.

MY FANBOY SWOONS. I can honestly say this app has rekindled my love for comics. Well done DH (Oregon represent!). While I would love to see the "bundles" offered in-app, the Devs told me it was a limitation put on by Apple, so I'll just have to buy them through the website. #1 REQUEST! : please enable a "double-tap" to zoom to border; I don't mean a zoom to each panel, I mean a zoom to the edges of the drawn document. Right now, I manually zoom each page to its borders and scroll down. It's okay, but I have to fuss with each page. That feature (especially if it remained at that same zoom level from page to page!) would be very helpful. Thanks!

Dark Horse. Some years ago the only way to access purchases was by phoning D.H. & getting them manually added- but then it got better w/ app updates. Now with v2.0 we're back to square one! I used to never sign out, which is a bad policy nowdays; after logging off I found I hadn't kept a record of my PW. When I initiate the "new PW" link, I get no further as I keep getting the page that tells me there's "a problem communicating w/ the server" and to "try again in a few minutes". I don't believe it will ever work. I will have to go the same old route: phone the company, describe the problem, and eventually get an email that will help walk me thru getting a new PW so I can access my library of books. It seems to me my problem is a very common one which should have cropped up very early during beta (or alpha!)-testing of this app's major new 2.0 update. Companies should not use their customers as unpaid bug reporters: 1 Star (= 0%) for this update!

Darkhorse APP rocks!. I've been using this app for almost 2 months & love it. There are back issues that are hard to locate, but I found them here and caught up I'm what I was missing. Advice for getting bundles instead of single issues (If you want the whole shebang...): once you are signed up with Darkhorse, I've found that you have to go to the regular main Darkhorse site & sign in there if you want bundles (it does save some dinero to go this way). Then just wait for your account to update & you can read whole series through the app.

Okay, but nowhere near stellar. Overall, this is a surprisingly decent app. Actually reading the comics is surprisingly easy on a iPhone, and is probably better on the iPad. However, the store runs into two major problems. The first is how slow the whole thing is. It takes about a full minute to load, has a bad tendency to start loading five seconds after a button press, and takes forever to load prices. The second problem is the lack of an anthology feature. You must buy your issues one-at-a-time, and cannot buy these issues as they are collected in trade paperbacks, which could save a lot of time. A price reduction on top of the existing one would be ridiculous, but at least cutting down on the time spent in the already horrendously-slow store would be nice.

Useless Comics. The search option is pretty useless, the titles are really boring, the UI is just horrible this app needs a change to be a 5 star in my opnion

Great Comic Reading Experience. Dark Horse publishes some great books. Despite that, I was wary of making the digital leap because a physical book is such a wonderful thing. I was greatly pleased with the experience this app provides. The guided view feature keeps the story flowing and provides a great way to enjoy the art by filling the screen with each image. The resolution of each page provides a clear full panel image that looks great on an iPad with a retina screen. There are occasional glitches and rare app closure, but I am confident that these things will get better in future updates. You will find yourself zipping through each issue because the app provides a no-distraction interface. It wasn't long before I purchased all of the B.P.R.D. Issues. One tip for users: Purchase your issues directly from the Dark Horse website. While the in-app prices are quite reasonable, you can only buy individual issues or collections in the app. The bundles they offer online are the best value for your money. If I had one suggestion, it would be to provide a feature that allows one to make their own readings lists in whatever order one desires. For a series like B.P.R.D., the stories are broken into multiple story arcs. The next issue suggestions that pop up at the end of a book are occasionally out of date of publication order. Great work Dark Horse!

Great comic app from the best current comic company. The best way to keep up with fantastic Dark Horse comics on the go. It does freeze every once in a while and some of the options - like full screen and panel view - can be buggy. Plus the menu navigation could take a lesson or two from the comixology app - it's just awful here. However, the access to the comics - especially Hellboy, BPRD, the Goon, Buffy, and now Alien and Predator, along with many fantastic new properties like The Massive and Mind MGMT, is the real selling point. This is the best company for fresh, high quality horror comics, and this is the best way to get those comics digitally. If you are a fan of any of the books I mentioned, then downloading this is a no brainier. Just manage your collection through the website until they get the store interface fixed in the app.

One Recommended Change. I love that I can read the Berserk manga on here but the major issue is the app’s functionality. If I go into the settings page there is no way to get out of it I have to delete the app and redownload it each time.

Poorly maintained app. There are a number of problems with this app. It's slow. It repeatedly gives me a message that it can no longer connect to the iTunes store. So the Dark Horse store never updates. To get new DH comics I have to buy them from the DH digital website then download to this app. But that is now becoming buggy. Previous comics that I've purchased that way now disappear. I can re-download them if I want but it's a pain. I have uninstalled and re-downloaded this app to see if that fixed things. It didn't help. This app desperately needs an update. Compared to Comixology this app feels amateurish. Dark Horse has great comics and and their digital store has an amazing selection. I'd love to get them thru my iPad without all the hassle.

It USED to work. I got this app about four years and 1 phone ago and it worked perfectly fine until one of the recent patches that pretty much destroyed any semblance of functionality. I used to be able to access my library of books quickly and easily and I would read for lengthy periods of time in a given sitting. Now, I’m lucky if the app even opens on the third try and blessed if I can get into my library and actually get into one of my books. Not sure how this is supposed to be the optimal way to read comics but it certainly feels like a waste of data to have a non-functioning app on my phone. That said, I am holding out hope that a future patch implements the proper changes needed to address this very severe, crippling problem. I have faith given that it was once a great app to read and purchase comics.

Unstable App. I have spent a small fortune on Dark Horse titles. I regret ever using this app. I have had nothing but trouble with it. Comics I have download disappear, comics crash, I tried to rest my password, received an email with no link. Buyer beware.

Great!. Much improved over the years!

I want to love this app, but.... it's a very frustrating experience overall. The store takes FOREVER to refresh, so you see banners for new content that lead nowhere when you click on them. Archiving downloaded titles is an exercise in patience because the buttons (or their hit targets) are too small, so you frequently end up opening a book that you were trying to archive. Visual feedback on what's going on in the app - i.e., activity spinners when there is network activity - are hit or miss. Scrolling through titles is choppy and frequently stalls completely for several seconds. Random crashes still occur too frequently. It's great that Dark Horse has embraced digital and gone day-and-date (at a reasonable price) with its books, but this app is way, way behind the competition in both features and functionality. It needs serious attention and soon, or Dark Horse would be better off following IDW's example and moving their digital endeavors to the Comixology platform.

Meh app, meh service. I mean theyve got a decent library but the fact you have to pay basically normal comic prices for a digital good is kinda dumb when the competitors such as comixology and marvel unlimited offer WAAAY more for a small monthly fee and you unlimited comic book reading and a massive library to choose from, why would anyone use this app? If you ever become a subscription service count me in! Until then ill just buy real comics with my money.

Hope it gets better. I downloaded this app just for Elfquest comics. It was going so far so good until I tried to purchase vol 3 of Stargazers Hunt. It made the purchase and even downloaded no problem, when I went to read it tho I had a completely different comic I do not want. I’m waiting on a response from support to see if this will be resolved and hopefully I can give better rating so if dark horse sees this review please fix my order!!!

Excellent app and great customer service!. Honestly, I have no idea why people are rating this so low. The app itself is stable, the reading experience is top notch, and the customer service is excellent. They offer many GOOD free comics to tempt your nerdtastic taste buds and have great specials ($.99 comic specials, the Mass Effect freebies, etc.) to pick books up on the cheap. Plus, if something goes wrong, their customer service is friendly and extremely helpful. So far, I've downloaded 53 books off the store - many of which didn't cost me a dime, but they allowed me to sample new series and see which ones I wanted to invest in. Yes, the entire DH portfolio isn't on the store yet, but give them time! Highly recommended, particularly if you're a nerd like me who loves comics.

Terrible UI. The search feature is useless, and browsing is all but impossible. I would like a ‘recommended for you’ list and a way to search according to popularity or genre

Nice, but One Recommendation. I love that I can purchase Mass Effect, Dragon Age and the Witcher comics amongst other comics as well. My only wish is that when purchasing the collection, I could break the series and the individual comics up instead of having one massive book. I feel like that would make for a better experience overall and would be better for sorting purposes. It would also change my rating from a 4 star to a 5 star. Other than that, I have no complaints for this app!

It just doesn't work. I honestly have no idea why this is even on the app store. My problem with this app isn't freezing or crashing. The app simply won't display comics for me. I search for a series, or click on one of the featured comics, and nothing shows up. The app keeps telling me that there is nothing to display, and I might want to check my Internet connection. This has been going on since I acquired this app a couple of months ago, and have updated it, deleted it, and re-downloaded it numerous times with zero success. I'm baffled by the negligence Dark Horse is showing, by even having this app exist. Of you're looking for comics download one of the many other apps available on the app store. If you're looking for Dark Horse comics, you're going to have to visit your local comic shop.

How do you order your bookshelf?. I downloaded dungeon siege 1, 2, and 3 out of order. I got 1, 3, and 2. So I read 1, and it asked to go the next book in the series. I did and it opened up to the second page of 3 (not the cover page where I would have noticed it wasn't book 2). It basically went in the order of the next book on the shelf, not in the series. How do you move books on the shelf so they are in order? Or hey programmers, can you make it find the next book in the series without them being in order? Either would work for me. It just doesn't make sense to not have them go 1, 2, 3. Otherwise, you did a good job of getting a non-comic reader to look at starting to read comics and follow a series. Thanks!

Loving It Digital. Though it's definitely different from physical graphic novels, and can't replace that real feel, I still like having the digital. There's less clutter, more organized, all in one spot, and more vibrant colors! The only complaint/suggestion I can think of currently would ... actually I need to read the. Free help guide-booklet that's in the app. Thanks for a great product! I just REALLY hope I can get my graphic novels into backup copies on my own computer someday, I just worry about y'all losing my purchases info due to a glitch/virus/hacker/etc. But here's another request for more Falling Skies! :] Oh, and to any haters out there, I haven't had any problems/crashes so why you? s:/

Comixology is still better, just merge already!. This app is ok. It loads really slow and half the time the links don't work properly. I like to read by zooming into each panel and this app just doesn't do that well. The zoom is always cutting chucks of the panel out, the panels are blurry, and the transition is super fast and glitchy. I don't like how you can't buy volumes or bundles except from the website. What's the point of having an app if you can't do anything with it? I also dont like that at the third or fourth to last page of the comic it pops up asking if i want to read more, buy the next comic or preview the next comic. Just wait until the end of the issue, everyone likes to read the blurbs and extras at the end. I honestly wish they would just merge with comixology already. It's a much better interface, and they organize things so much better. Here i can't tell which comic comes first and you have to read the entire description of each issue to figure it out. Such a hassle.

Not everything available?. Limited

Problems with app. DarkHorse has the best comics. They ideas the drawings. I have always been a huge follower. That said, the comics remain excellent per usual. My grape is with the app's ability to display the comics. Compares to DC, Marvel, The DarkHorse app is behind the times. It needs bugs to be fixed (closes out unexpectedly, downloads stop mid-download, worse having to reset the app to continue the download) and they should upgrade their software to where reading the comics is less complicated. Right now is kinda a manual read. All the other options either dont move smoothly or they dont exist. If your looking for excellent reading and the best graphic comics of this decade, your in the write place. If your looking to read them with a high quality app your not going to be as happy. I personally love the graphic novels such that the apps lack of smoothness doesnt send me away. Others may wish to wait until proper upgrades are completed.

Meh. I love Dark Horse Comics, but if it weren't for the exclusive content, I wouldn't bother. The controls moving from panel to panel (or page to page) are sluggish and unresponsive at times. Every time there is an update to the app, it relists all of my purchases as new - meaning things I've already read and removed. The only way to mark them as read again is to redownload them, open them and then remove them again. Completely unnecessary extra work. Lacks the ability to rate comics and to see what other people think of them. I hope it's not because dark horse wants to hide that information. I do like how the comic cover fills up while downloading to show progress. I definitely prefer comixology as a reader.

A suggestion. I like that the app provides comics of all varieties but I hate the fact that you have to buy all these comics. Why not do a monthly subscription like the Marvel app or DC app for comics.

Good content, bad app.. I love reading hellboy and plants vs zombies comics but the app is super buggy and all-around broken.

Dark Horse fan. . . Disappointed. Considering the attention and care to the line-up of comics available from Dark Horse, I am disappointed with the seeming lack of attention and care paid to there digital storefront. I've waited around through revisions to see if their app would improve. The 1.3.0 claims stability improvements, but as with previous versions I cannot log in to the store to make purchases. The apps just hangs there attempting to log in. This thing doesn't even seem to have a timeout function that will give up and let you know that it can't carry out the task of logging you in to the store. So since I can't log in, I can't even 'purchase' free books to give the reader a spin. This app seems to have borrowed heavily or been made by the Comixology people, as their app is useless as well. Both apps - as with other comic book storefront apps - just seem to be perpetually downloading something in the background. The lead/project manager for this app should consider getting this under control. There has to be a way to load your storefront without seemingly downloading it's entire contents. I hope to see improvements, but like other digital comic storefronts w/built-in readers, this one disappoints.

Comics. Makes me happy

Time for Another Upgrade. It's a fine app and it's come a long way. But its about time to organize the collections by series arcs. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and how cool would it be now that Legacy is all out (and KOTOR) if it were in one file on the your main collection similar to how they have it grouped where you buy them. I've tried some of the other apps for comics and Apple has made me lazy. I don't want to find and move my comic files around. Compared to those other comic viewers, it is not at feature filled or customizable but the regular updates keep coming so I'm sure they will get around to it. I'm just grateful to have all these comics in this form.

This is a rough one. While the content is great, the app itself is pretty bad. It doesn’t have a wishlist function and I can’t seem to leave a book when I start it. There probably is a way but I can’t find it. I just wish the app would use comixology.

Can’t see the bottom edge of most frames on my iPad. The framing is wrong on my iPad. The bottom edge of most panels is hidden. Pushing the panel up on the touchsceen doesn’t help

Kind of bad because you can’t read the whole book. So you can’t read like for free so yeah I don’t like this because it cost so much and it doesn’t read to you so that a reason and my second reason is because it charges for thing s that are in Netflix only cost 11 dollar’s for so much things like that is le

Olny reason I’m here is GOD OF WAR, AVATAR COMICS, AND STRANGER THINGS. EVERYONE WANTS MORE STUFF

Force closes managa. Downloaded, signed up , and bought berserk Vol1 and was reading for maybe 10 minutes and then the app constantly force closes and will not let me back into my book. Following the FAQ; only clearing the cache works and then once i get close to where i was in my chapter it kicks me out starting it all over again. Contacted customer support, hopefully they follow up with something worthwhile Edit: had issues with the first download of the book, had to archive and then re download. Customer service was exemplary help

Awesome app. Lots of comics I didn’t even realize existed! Definitely recommend

Horrible!. I just got an iPad with the intention to go digital. Well, that'll be tough considering how bad this app works. For one, it is SLOW! Touch a button and... wait. Then I downloaded a free comic and when I go to view it in my bookshelf, it's gone! What if that happens to something you actually paid money for? So I try to find it again.... An the app crashes! Obviously this app does not want people to actually use it. Other suggestions would be having a "want list" folder. Just because I may not be buying something at his moment doesn't mean I won't be buying later. Why not allow the user to add books into a folder they can go straight to later on a buy from that list? Having to search for everything from the start of each app use is ridiculous. If they do have a function like this, I haven't seen it.

Great access to amazing content but actual functionality is lacking. As an avid comic fan there is nothing better than being able to buy whatever you feel like reading the moment the fancy strikes you. This app certainly serves this purpose. The access to the Dark Horse catalogue is some of the best out there. That being said the app itself feels a little sparse and benefits mostly from the content it presents and not from its own inherent design. There are many ways this app could be improved upon. Subscriptions perhaps? This is an age-old method of consuming one's favorite titles and it would clearly benefit from taking advantage of push notifications etc. Not to mention metadata? It's all in there so why not let your readers browse titles by cross referencing keywords? It's not on me as a user to supply you with functionality ideas but it seems now that you've achieved the most basic functionality you would expand upon the app and improve not only your sales but the users enjoyment of your content in an intuitive browsing environment.

Raised the prices. I was looking at a book yesterday. I went to buy it this morning and I noticed the price was raised by like ten bucks. Can you please not do that?

Better than before... REVISED. I was one of those people who suffered from the previous updates blackout on library updates with the latest update to the software has become a five-star app. It no longer crashes, it downloads everything without a problem - in short, everything works perfectly and I love it all over again. ORIGINAL REVIEW Being a fan of Dark Horse comics and manga now living overseas, I was thrilled when the Dark Horse App came out so I could finally read more. Before this most recent update this was a 4-star app - mostly good, but it was slow and there were crashes aplenty - but I was spending quite a bit of money digitizing my collection. Now with the new update I haven't had one crash, but that may be because it doesn't do anything now - it just says it can't connect to the iTunes store. Their email support wanted to be helpful and explained the entire situation in crystal clear detail, so I must give credit where it's due. However, due to the nature of the problem, the app is no longer useful unless I want to read my old purchases. When the problem is fixed, I'll raise the rating.

Overall, fine. Needs some polishing. The “bookshelf” screen is black until I toggle the “show downloaded titles”. Highly confusing. When reading in panel mode, swiping backwards doesn’t work. I have to TAP on the right half of the screen to go back. However, forward swiping works great. I’m sure there’s more.

2/5. Love that I can read berserk but the devs really need to put in a bookmark so I don’t have to restart the comic all over again.

Legend of korra!. You are the only comic app that has legend of korra manga! Thank you 😊

the app KEEPS crashing while i’m downloading. after that i have to uninstall the app to retry downloading

Now the best…. …by default. Comixology has sunk. The Dark Horse app is far superior now. Their content is always excellent.

Finally Perfect!. Yes! Finally! They fixed the app with the latest update, and it no longer stutters or crashes. Much, much better experience. Now I can view, buy, download, preview, and read comics! And not just any old comics, but the latest and greatest in creator-owned graphic novels! If you love frank miller get this app. If you appreciate Alex Ross get this app. If you like the latest Red Sonja get this app. I am personally very pleased because I stuck with them while they fixed it. I sent a couple emails to them myself explaining the problems this app used to have. Highly recommended -- I have over 200 of their comics on the app now. Below is my original rating. ------ Two of my fave publishers in one app. Now they just need to add IDW (Transformers) and it would be perfect! Yes it crashes at first from trying to load too many comics at once. Don't download more than a couple at a time and it won't crash. For me, anyway. Because it crashes more on my older iPad I'm guessing it has something to do with memory management and the iOS being used.

Great Comics, Mediocre App. The comics are great. Sin City (no longer available in store??), 300 etc... But the app is lackluster, especially when compared to the awesome Comixology app. It finally has support for iPhone 5 screen but latest update brings random crashes, text on bookshelf screen misaligned, and slow chugging performance. Also, one of my biggest gripes is how small the words are, even in Panel Zoom Mode. Having to pinch to zoom just to read dialogue bubbles is annoying and unnecessary. Panel zoom mode while in landscape should be sufficient to read everything without zooming or eye strain. In Comixology, viewing panels in landscape mode is excellent. Text is rendered beautifully and no need to pinch to zoom. If these issues are fixed this app could be great. Just beware. Especially since these comics mainly cost 15 bucks. Steep, compared to the $.99 - $1.99 price range of Comixology.

Nice start. There are a lot of things I like about this...being able to download only the parts of your purchases you want at the time is a real space saver and very nice. The interface is easy to understand and works pretty well. DH is offering pretty good discounts for some of their popular titles, so it's a great way to find stuff you've missed. The selection might be a bit lean for some people, but I'm sure that will improve over time. The organization of the collection tab could be better. I've only bought a few titles so far but I see right away having all your purchases listed on one screen is not the way to go. Separate folders by series title would be nice...or even better have the ability to make your own folders. Otherwise the collection will get very difficult to use very quickly. I've also found the app a big buggy. It crashes the most when first opening a comic. I know once I'm in the comic I'm pretty much set, but still it's annoying to have to restart it 1-3 times just to get into a title. I'm using this on an Iphone 4 if that makes any difference.

Just doesn't cut it. I've recently been getting back into comics through Comixology and other great digital comics options. It's such a shame that Dark Horse has decided to keep their own content in their own little box...the minor inconvenience of putting up with another app might not seem like the end of the world - in theory, it isn't - and it might even seem to some folks as if they are doing us a favor by keeping at least one of the larger publishers out of the big pot, but there is nothing consumer-friendly about this choice. They're suggesting that their content is good enough to justify enduring what turns out to be a laundry list of "minor inconveniences," all so they don't have to chuck any change at the creators of Comixology...but it really isn't. Hope I see you guys over there sometime! Buffy, Hellboy and the rest aren't SO good that I'll put up with this awful app to read them. Plenty of other floppies in the sea, and there's no reason to believe you won't always be playing catch-up with your self-inflicted rivalries, all at our expense. No thanks. You are the Origin to Comixology's Steam.

Good app, good, price, good content but nothing's perfect.. Good app and some really good titles however it can be a bit buggy and crash for no reason. Also every noes and again a page will freeze and then you end up 6 pages in advance from where u want to be. Good app, good price, good content but hey nothing's perfect

Awesome!. I am new to digital comics and magazines, as I have had my ipad for less than a week. The first app I downloaded was Dark Horse and the StarWars comics have been a revelation. I love the StarWars EU anyway but the comics add an extra dimension to the stories and technically, reAding these comics in the digital format are a hoot. Simply brilliant!

Cool app. Works well. Cheaper bundles are available thru the website though, obviously because they can avoid paying Apple a fee that way.

Brilliant!. A great app for keeping a digital copy of your favourite Dark Horse comics handy. Plus they're cheaper than hard copies if you're not overly fussed on being tactile. Previews are also offered to help new readers decide whether they're about to purchase a comic that suits their interests or not. Very handy feature. Had to contact Customer Support about the store not loading properly, however a member of the team replied to my email promptly and assisted with fixing the issue. No problems anymore! Absolutely love this app!

Could be optimised better for mobile devices.. Using this app on a mobile device has lead me to write this review. Internet connections on mobile devices are typically slower/weaker, but despite this, the app doesn't consider it at all. Instead, it has clunky features that cause problems and annoyance to the user. What I mean by this is: - Despite the fact comics can be sorted by category, all results are listed in one giant scrolling window which makes the app quit out or load 1byte/second. This could be fixed by having each issue of a comic in a folder with the series name. EG. Horror -> Abe Sapien -> comics - More than one sorting option in the bookshelf is unnecessary -- Browse and Series/Recent/Creator. Clicking browse confused me as I thought that it would take me into the store options. I didn't know why there were categories missing until I realised I was in my bookshelf. - There's no immediate search option on the store or bookshelf pages. You have to tap browse and then tap in the search option there. Every single other app I've used has let me search immediately unless there was nothing to search for. However, this app still gets four stars because of the amusing/helpful way it allows you to read comics on a small screen, which counts for a lot when all it's for is reading comics.

Comics are good. All-in-all, a very good comic app, especially considering it's all proprietary. The panel by panel feature is good, as is the store, with a remarkable amount of comics to read, and previews to boot. A couple of features would make it even better, though. First, a "Read" tag to show which of your comics you've already finished; second, a way of quickly finding new issues of comics you've bought previously, when the next issue becomes available.

Best way to read Hellboy. Everything here. In omnibus and trade paperback format at much cheaper prices than the physical books.

Good, not great. There's still a lot of room to improve with this app, which still has some trouble correctly populating the store upon start up. The comic reader is great and there are a number of first issues from various titles that can help in deciding if you want to keep reading by being offered free! This is a big help because dark horse offers a wide range of titles, many based on things in other media (Falling Skies, Star Wars and Mass Effect).

Great. Been finding everything easy to access, especially after th update

Needs Fixing. Reference the other review, you have to download from the DHD website because if you try to purchase anything from within the app it gets lost "pending". Three days now and still pending. They released a patch that was supposed to fix this but failed. Wait until the next update before getting this app or use the two stage process from the other review.

Starting to shine. Dark Horse may not have the must legendary stable of comic book titles, but their respectful treatment of licensed properties and there willingness to take some chances keeps them interesting. The App itself has reached a point where it's quite stable just a little sluggish, certainly capable if not outstanding. It has been updated frequently and Dark Horse seem to be supporting it with plenty of great titles.

Love it. Impressive range of quality comics though agree with another person that some kind of feature to alert you when next issue of a series in your collection is available would be welcome or a "suggested reading" type function to promote other comics you may not otherwise read based on comic currently reading simply due to the wide range on offer

Great comics, terrible app. I love the comics that I've downloaded, but the app is hopeless. Every time I open it everything is unread, nor does it organize anything into series. A poor effort unreflective of the high quality content. Update: still waiting for someone to make this an app worthy of the comics. No ability to organize the comics! Come on guys...

Mediocre. It lets you read and download comics as,advertised but lacks some of the finesse of other readers. It gets quite annoying that you have to wait til a comic has finished downloading until you can read the first page. Not many free comics available (how about the MySpace stuff, at least?) It'd be great to have a way to track chronology for comics from the same universe so I know what to read first. Doesn't look great when zoomed in.

Dark Horse Comic!. Dark Horse Comics have been the go to people for years & years now, from Fallout Series- New Vegas Collectors Edition. Gary Vault 77. the Art of Fallout 4 Special Ed. & Then on to CD Projekt Red's The Witcher Series Games, Books & Comics!! The Best Quality! Then old School for me with NightBreed, Shadowrun & D&D. Also more recent Attack on Titan & on it goes with so many great series from such an Epic company like Dark Horse Comics!!

Quality of Life Issues. Really simple things are just straight up missing. You can’t sort titles, they’re in a fix order of what looks like either download or purchase order. Accidentally skip an issue in a series? Find issue #7 after issue #9! Also, the app has a terrible time unless it’s constantly connected to the internet. Not on Wi-Fi/3G? You get internal errors (SKErrorDomain error 0) percolated to an alert message. You’ll also have missing issue thumbnails, except on the indeterminate occasions where it caches them. But not all of them.

Terrible.. App is buggy, but great when it works. Affordable comics and support for the retina display. Layout could use some work (menu items are not very discoverable, they look like search results), and trying to get the toolbar back once you're in a comic is frustrating (no, I want the menu, not the next page!).

Loverly. Very nice update of the old version since you can now get in app purchases and I can now continue reading some of the comics that I stopped reading when comixology got its crappy update. Also loving the dark horse exclusives like hellboy and the alien series ^^

Love this app. Now I let my kids read my comics! I live in the middle of nowhere and found this app is the best way to read my comics and I don't need to worry about my kids putting cups on my comics! I use this app on my iPad and it's nice to read on it works on my iPhone too but I find it's a bit small. If your a star wars fan like I am you need this app!

Solid, a little scammy. The in-app store could use work: can't find bundles, so you have to go through to the website. Feels like they're trying scam money a bit. Would be nice to have the option to buy the next bundle in the series when you finish reading a comic. Also, as others have said, read comics appear as new which is a bit distracting. Other than that it's solid.

Well worth it. The app is good, easy to use, and the comics are top quality. I would like to see more issues available for many of the titles, but otherwise well worth downloading

Crashing?. This app is much slower than the Comixology apps, but still good. Lately when I use it I get 2 pages into reading a comic and it crashes!!! What is the problem? Can this be fixed? Please contact me.

Great comic reader. Would be good to be able to flip pages in zoom mode as that's my favourite way to view the comics. Access to one of the best range of comics though, can't complain.

Poor Form. Had to re-install the app to stop it from crashing after the latest update. After reinstall I had to wait for the app to link my iTunes purchases, which failed. I've never had these problems with Comixology. Wish Dark Horse would switch to them.

Works well. It downloads your comics smoothly, and is quite easy to navigate, though I would prefer a full list of major titles on the first screen.

Good. Great chance to read comics I would not normally be able to do so. Some series seem to be missing comics though which makes it hard to follow the story. Star wars legacy is an example. They then appear a week or so later which makes the story line out of place. I would like to see omni buses available and more comics available. Prices are good and I like the free or cheap first comic to see if you like it or not. I also like the specials. I use this app more than anything else.

Darkhorse = best comics being published. First up, this is not a pre-written review or a robot. That said I cannot say enough good things about Darkhorse comics. They produce work which is just consistently good. I'm particularly fond of BPRD and Hellboy. However, the app has some usability issues. The process of actually read each comic is fine but search and purchasing comics is a little awkward.

Easy read. Nice. It is simple and easy to magnify the text and images, and there is an interesting selection of comics. Pretty simple and inexpensive to pick up new ones. Already read a few issues, liking it so far.

Good collection. Some minor bugs.. There's an excellent collection of comics available and they're easy to navigate. The app suffers from some performance issues and spontaneous resetting of the "New" flag on items.

Easy to use, convenient comics viewing.. Great app. It gets out of the way when you want to read, and automatically prompts you to read the next book in the series if you want to. Good, easy-to-use UI, and sensible comics management (enabling you to just keep the comics you want on your device, and the rest in the cloud).

Don't buy through the app. The online store charges in USD so it's only US$1.99 each (Apple's standard A$2.49 is just ridiculous with the exchange rate where it is). Buy online, log in to the app and download. Too easy. Plus the online store has bundles. With my credit from early mailing list sign up, I grabbed 9 mass effect comics (first one's free) for US$8.99. Pretty good value.

Crash, crash, freeze!. Took me forever to create an account (had to end up doing it through there web site) and once I did log in I couldn't download any comics. This app constantly crashes and freezes. After 2 days I still haven't read a single comic (including the instruction manual). I was hoping to read the free Mass Effect comics, but now the promotion is over. Very unhappy.

Good, but not great. Some awesome titles in the library, mostly at reasonable prices. The app it's self is a little slow and buggy. The badges on e Comic arcs is very annoying. Overall worth using to read the great titles, but hope the new updates make the app nicer to use

Good but needs subscription and 2 page view when landscape. …

Best App on iTunes!. I am a big fan of the Mass Effect games, so when i discovered Dark Horse Comics I was pleasantly surprised. There are so many different series available from Buffy to Star Wars. The comics are cheap too, on average $1.99 each. Plus, there are even a couple free ones to get you started.

Fantastic!. Lets me purchase in app and allows Multiplatform support for all my comics. This meant my change to iPhone didn't cost me my library on my old devices. Runs crisp and smooth on my older iPhone 4S.

Pretty cool app. Can access content on all devices. Good selection of dark horse comics and readable on iPhone. One minor glitch only so far. Excellent all round otherwise.

Great app. This is a very great app with many great comics and the only problem I have with it is when im expecting a comic I come out on a certain day, it never does! Until atleast four days later or in this case at the moment Ive been waiting for Prototype 2 the labyrinth to come out since thursday! I believe that there should be something done about this

Extend the offer.... All I wanted to do was download the Mass Effect comics while they were free. However thanks to the horribly poor planning on the part of Dark Horse, the store has been hammered so hard nothing is accessible and it looks like I'll miss out. This is not a review of the App itself, more a comment on the state of the online store. If I'm able to get my comics before the offer runs out, I'll actually give the app a proper go and update my score.

Great app, but needs a subscribe or notification feature. Love the new updates to the app, but allowing me to nominate the comics that I like so that I can be notified when they are available will be a great feature, or if not, merely a subscribe option so that I can automatically download the comics once I've purchased an annual subscription and they become available.

Not bad but. Lack of selection really hampers this reader. It functions almost exactly like comixology's app which is most definitely a good thing but like the above they they also do not offer collections. I.E. If you wanted to buy all the Mass Effect comics you'd need to individually buy each comic at $2.45. This can end up getting quite costly. I love dark horse comics in general, ESP the star wars editions. I was very disappointed to see NO SW comics in their store despite there being a picture of one in the app page (just look up). Still it defiantly has potential- if they add more content and a more intelligent pricing system i would have no issue rating it 5 stars.

awesome for reading. impatient for next chapter. I only got this app to read "Blade of the Immortal". I have read 3 volumes so far, and am getting so impatient for volume 4. I contacted Dark Horse and they were unsure of their release dates for it - it could possibly be monthly. I wish it were weekly at least. Since I purchased the three in one fell swoop, I have been waiting over a fortnight for the fourth volume. I am getting so impatient they are going to lose me as a customer as I am determined to buy it elsewhere...and that's my story. To put it simply: 1. Great reading app. I have had no bugs. 2. Dark Horse is currently slow to submit next volume in a series.

Great comic, app has few minor bugs. Loving the Joss Whedon and Dragon Age series. App is pretty easy to use, simple to make purchases in app or via the digital store. I prefer to buy via the digital store as they offer discounted bundles. Have had a few problems where issues have not downloaded properly or can't be opened and it's taken a couple of times archiving and re-downloading to fix the problem. Love that the issues can be read offline once downloaded.

Crashing. Fix it!

Password issues. Great app and nice selection. Registration issue has been fixed :) The comics download in no time, very fast, the UI is fast and logical, no fake page curls but a nice slide. The selection is good and a nice amount of free comics to. I'd like to see trade paperbacks on the store or a subscription discount for whole series. Buying is a snap. Love how the cover art of the comic is the download indicator when it's downloading. Axe Cop is just crazy and great to see some Adam Warren as well. In time this is going to be a great shop!

Terrific on iPad, less so on iPhone. I've had this app for some years now and it was really my first introduction to comics and I thought it was awesome except that it CONSTANTLY stopped working on my phone. So recently having bought an iPad I reinstalled it and oh...MY GOD is it great. Morale of the story iPhone: Eh iPad: Awesome

Leave app open when downloading!. I love the app for being easy to use, and Dark Horse for making some poor intern devise a way to automatically zoom in on appropriate panels. But you have to leave the app open (i.e. turn off Auto-lock!) if you want it to keep downloading the larger comics. Still well worth it, though!

Non competitive pricing, esp. in Australia!. I remember buying Aliens back in the 90's, you'd get about four story arcs (sold now as standard comics) along with a few dozen pages of text based narratives, today I wasted twice that price on what amounted to less than half an Aliens comic. I wanted to relive those times, but at eight times the price and for only 1/10th the comic? No. Just no. Seriously lame, buyers remorse is an understatement.

DH gets app up to spec. DH have got there app stable and are now starting to have an excellent selection of comics available. Always good to get my weekly Star Wars fix. Keep uploading your back catalogue and new adventures please.

Needs to be fixed. This could be a really groovy app however it won't let me download any more comic, I downloaded the free ones and buffy issue 16 but that's it, it won't let me see any more store comics. Only the ones I bought

Great. Dark horse is a less talked about company but a great one because of the licences they get such as alien, predators, over watch and many more one feature that would be great is some sort of product scan because I have a few of their comics in physical form and don’t want to buy them again and also don’t want t take them wherever I go this would be nice but is alto to ask over all great and lots of free content highly recommend it

Force crashing on iPad. Running new iOS 13

Dark horse. The app is great much easier to use on iPad iso the iPhone. It's great to be able to browse comics in the store. So much choice. It's great!!

Terrible once again. I thought this app had turned a corner after being unreliable for so, so long but after this new update on November 2013, we are back to the same old problems. I tried browsing in their store but it just shuts off, a past problem that was irritating before but now is just annoying especially after everything seemed to be corrected. I don't know what Dark Horse's problem is but if this is how they wish to continue in the digital age, I feel really bad for the creators who have their work published there. Get your act together or just stop being so stubborn and go to Comixology.

Great but some bugs in syncing. Scrolling is intuitive and pages snap to screen well. Lately there have been some issues with retrieving older issues via sync, but that could be the somewhat unreliable NZ Internet.

Bad interface. Far from smooth reading. Resolution starts to pixelize and blur when zoomed. Was hoping for an experience akin to staple comic book reader apps. A bit disappointed.

Sometimes frustrating. I got the star wars bundle a while back and I love it. The problem is the app. I'm reading through these large graphic novels that take me a while to read. You know how, on kindle, when you open the app it brings you to where you left off so you can just continue reading? No can do here. The app defaults to bringing you your library in the cloud. you have to click " device" then navigate to star wars, then the subcategory of star wars, and finally to the particular book you're reading, if you can remember it. Then it at least remember what page you're on, thank goodness. It takes a few seconds, but it's enough of a hassle that I don't read as much as I'd like to. Further, the panel view doesn't work very well. Sometimes it works great, and then sometimes there is a progress bar at the bottom that won't go away. Until it does for no apparent reason. It obscures part of the panel. Baffling.

Not crashing anymore. Fixed the crashes that killed the previous version.

Love it. No crash, no glitch , just great artwork and stories. Goon, and Hellboy, my faves, thank you

Good on iPad. Problem on new iPhone7.. Hi, Good on iPad. Problem on new iPhone7.The downloads did not work.

Great app.. It's nice to fill in gaps when local shops don't have issues. Quick and easy to get comics... Maybe TOO easy! Haha

Worst. Does not work

The last of us. The last of us comics are the best

Very good reader. Overall a very good experience. Sometimes the panel to panel flow isn't as smooth as if like, but the awesome comics dark horse puts out makes it worth dealing with

Best app. Love this app!!! Way better way to read and keep comics!!! Can't seem To find the new darth vader series

Great Interface. Just downloaded the app and it works great. Fairly easy to navigate and in app purchase is fluid.

Top-notch. Just got the app for Star Wars comics. No complaints so far.

Good ap. Love this app simply so I can buy my elf quest comics!!!

Great stuff. This app is just great.

Wow. I have my Conan collection which had to be sold all those years ago for college money BACK... They are BACK BABY, this is one of the best things ever, reader works slick (once you figure it out) content is great and prices good Thank you

Good. Vast improvements from what it was.

Comic storage. Is there a way you could update it so that I can rearrange my comics on my device. I don't like that it's in alphabetical order. I have series and they are not all together and it's kinda confusing. Thanks

Keeps crashing. Since last update try to load comics crash.

DH should team up with comixology. This really is a subpar app. Very clunky. Can't understand why they don't team up with Comixology like every other publisher.

Great!. Fantastic way to enjoy comics. HELLBOY IS AWESOME!!!

Crash. Keeps crashing as soon as I open the app... Please fix.

Enjoyed this app until they ripped out the Star Wars catalog. Was a good app until the Star Wars catalog was removed then the app removed all 62 Star Wars titles I bought off my iPad and then forced to archive me to redownload and waste my bandwidth. I can now read the Star Wars titles again but they aren't categorized by series anymore and have no thumbnails so I haven't got a hot clue of which comic I'm opening. Thanks for nothing Dark Horse!

Burn it all and start again.... iOS 7 is the perfect opportunity to completely rebuild this confusing, sluggish, and often unusable app. I've actually just stopped buying Dark Horse comics because using this app is so exhausting. Time for a new direction!

You guys stole my money.. Throughout the years I’ve bought various Alien vs predator books. To my understanding I was going to be able to read them in my library still after you guys lost the rights. Now my library is clear and I’ve lost all my comics. Should’ve bought physical. Last time I buy a digital comic or book.

One Major Flaw. The content is excellent and the service is wonderful, but I want to be able to delete comics from my roster. I've purchased some real duds and I hate that they are always visible in my library. Please fix this Darkhorse.

Great stuff. Just one thing.. I love DH comics and this app couldn't be easier to use. I just wish there was a way to hide and/or delete archived comics from my device. My reading list is too messy.

Where’d the Dynamite Titles Go?. All the Dynamite titles seem to have vanished from the app.

Sell me an app please, not a buggy HTML viewer.. Note: This app is still buggy and rarely works, even after the past two updates. I'm using version 1.5.1 on two different devices, including a 64 GB iPhone 5. This app crashes on launch, has a horribly chuggy interface, and is nothing more than a badly skinned browser interface with memory issues. I expect more for an app that sells me content. If I buy a book off of you I expect to be able to READ that book and not just on a lucky day.

Archiving doesn’t free up storage?. How do you delete the files? I just checked my storage and it’s at 10gb, yet I only have 3 books installed.

Great!. This is awesome. I'm gunna love all the reading from great books. I'm gunna enjoy. Thanks

Why Money. Did EA make this because i was here to read one of my favourite books Plants vs Zombies but it said that i could only read the first bit of the comic Lawnmegedon but when i looked for other parts it’s money! Why!? I just want to read my favourite book, it is still good just let me read more of my favourite comic books! WITHOUT MONEY

Graphic books need better options. Comic reading ok - not as smooth as an interface as I'd like. Glad the store can be used in app now. Would really like to buy graphic books on this app but the print is way too small and zoom centers badly and zooms out when you try to scroll down/up

Crashes. EVERY TIME.. App crashes seconds after opening, every time. Either get your act together or license your books to Comixology. You've got great creators putting out quality books, they deserve better than this joke of an app.

Easy, extensive library. It's great that I can manage my library and access the cloud for my previous purchases. If you can use the App Store you can use this easily. Thanks!

Dark horse comics. The app was easy to use and quite convenient overall a good choice for both casual and hardcore comic readers

convenient. Wish the comics were higher res

Reader. The movement between panels and pages is very satisfying, but getting each comic started is not. Select a comic and the cover appears, then swipe to read the first page -- more than two minutes pass before the app responds, without fail. If you're halfway through a comic the whole thing opens immediately, but opening a fresh one is frustrating.

Excellent app. This is my first digital comics app. Love the panel to panel view. Brings the experience of reading comics up to a whole new level.

The interface of worst practices. It's not like I'm going to find another app to read Dark Horse Comics, so DH can enjoy its monopoly. But perhaps they could follow some normal iPad interface best practices. I'm actually not sure how to get back to the home screen. Is it one tap? Two? A slightly encouraging screen poke? It's certainly not a pinch or swipe down. Sigh. If I had any intention of ever buying a hard copy comic, I'd be able to avoid this app. But I can't. "Well played, Quarian."

Epic win. Has many different series to offer, just wish it updated quicker

Great content. But sadly the ease of use is not as good as other comics.

Easy access to Dark Horse's Digital Library.. Easy to use, great way to keep up with Dark Horse's new books, or down load and take your favorite digital editions with you on the go.

Really buggy. Really buggy, shuts down a lot when trying to connect to the store or your comics. Deleted because it never worked properly.

Great app. I use this a lot. Great selection of titles.

Great Update.. The new update work awesome, the old UI bugged me so much with the red dot that wouldn't go away and the consent crashing. That's all gone now. If you had uninstalled this app before this update, it might be time to try it again. It works almost flawless now, and I'm almost happy with the app, but would to see two page reading like Comixology has. If that gets added 5 stars. Please make it happen Darkhorse. I think it would be a great benefit to users, but for the meantime this update has been awesome and long needed. Thanks Darkhorse, I love your StarWars Comics!

(Still) Wish They Sold Through Comixology. Dark Horse's app is quite slow. It requires long loading times and has to download the shop's content each time the app is opened, as well as the covers for the comics you have downloaded in your library. It's odd and time consuming. The panel-by-panel reading is also pretty clunky, not nearly as smooth as Comixology's guided view. I wish there was a "view whole page" option after going through each panel on a page like there is on Comixology. The prices are fair, though, and the catalog seems to have most (maybe all) of Dark Horse's comics available for purchase. I do like their smaller bundles of four comics; Comixology's bundles are always an entire run or a collected edition, both of which are basically as expensive as buying individual issues. I don't know why Dark Horse doesn't sell through Comixology, but I really wish they would. This app is awful in comparison, but I like the Mass Effect comics enough to deal with it, I suppose.

Disappointing, poor app service.. As the other reviews have said, this app is slow, glitchy and crashes a lot. It's okay when it works but they asked for a review when I just started encountering trouble with loading purchased books. If I can figure out why they won't load and can access and read them, I would still give this app a 2 star at best. But if I can't access some of the books I actually paid money for (Star Wars books Dark Empire 2 #4-6 and Empires End) then Dark Horse are stealing my money. Your best bet is to get the content you want from them somewhere else. Even if I get my issue ironed out, after the books I have I wouldn't spend any money through this app again. Be warned!

Frustration. This app is horrible. I bought it with high hopes that I would be able to read all these great dark horse comics. The app crashes constantly. Just installed the new update, and now it shows me awesome comics, but refuses to sell them to me. It has proven to be pure frustration for me. I would strongly advise against installing it. Here's an update on the apps performance. Its months later than it was when i wrote the above. Im still in awe of the apps poor performance. I just tried to use it again, to hopefully read 1 or 2 of the many dollars worth of comics I have purchased with this app before I was aware of the joke. Open it just to watch it crash. If only i could get my money returned, because I have absolutely no way to use this. The most money i have ever wasted on any sort of app. Simply terrible. Yet another update. Its been another few weeks or month. Still cannot read any comics, but thankfully Ive already spent money on them. The single worst app I have ever installed. Week later again, app still completely without function. DO NOT INSTALL OR PURCHASE. EXTREMELY BAD DEAL.

Stop giving bad reviews. It's easy if you create an account online at darkhorse digital. As for the app, it's got great selection, a great interface, and the downloads are crazy quick. Nothing beats paper, but I love this app. Being a huge Hellboy and Umbrella Academy fan, I've come to realize that darkhorse has he true originals when it comes to graphic novels. Plus Gabrielle Ba is one of the best artists I all time. Go Dark Horse!!!!!!

This latest update is working like a dream.. Thank you Dark Horse. I wasn't happy with the initial release and the following update, but this latest update is working fantastic. I haven't had the app crash at all and I'm now able to archive my purchases. You have a great selection so far, for such a new app (1 month old today:) and I look forward to many more additions to your catalog in the future. Thank you for keeping on top of the initial launch problems and getting it right.

Darkhorse rules. A real comfort when convalescing from cancer... Seriously the best way to read comics if you're stuck in bed. Interface brings them to life. I've read DC, Marvel this way as well, but if you like good comics and like to see them come to life, (and coincidentally are stuck in bed and can't drag stacks of them around with you,) Dark Horse has done a fine job of making everything accessible, fluid, & looking great. Just a perspective, from where I'm sitting. Nice work. No complaints. Nitpick as you will. I'm happy.

A different way to read comics. I use this app on my iPhone. Individual comics from my local comic book store are my preferred way to read comics. But digital comics, even on a small screen, is interesting. I notice different details when reading on a iPhone. The pacing is different. I think exposing others to comics storytelling in an media form is a good thing for the industry. And if you haven't read Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, I highly recommend it! Peace, maka

Should Be On comiXology. I wouldn't mind DH having their own app if it worked well. It does not. The store is poorly organized. The program is okay, but inferior to other digital comic services. Plus, the app freezes a lot while in the store. I was interested in a sale on some Star Wars comics, but had difficulty pulling that up. Searching for anything else caused the app to crash. Its a lot of trouble when there are plenty of high quality comics on comiXology I can buy with much less hassle. Dark Horse customer service has told me they hope to have a completely new version of their app out within a month. I can say they won't be getting any of my money until it releases, least of all because I can't buy anything with the current app.

Well Done !!. As a Conan fan since the early 70's I am so glad to see Dark Horse in the digital arena with the rest. It all works smoothly on my iPod Touch. I love the special touches like artists signatures in the background. This is very close to a five star for me if they could get "The Savage Sword of Conan" series included, that would do it ! Ok ! You got the Savage Sword Now ! Fantastic ! keep them coming ! 5 star ! Update: Love reading these on my iPad now. Enjoying every new read !

Retina support badly needed. The latest upgrade brought Retina sport in theory but all that was really updated was the menus. The comics are not yet Retinal quality. I understand that it may take time to upgrade the comics to Retina but this is an eventual must. The main competitor features this ability and HD comics in ComiXology look much sharper. The more immediate necessity is Retina covers. Comic covers look like crap on the Retina iPad, which makes the store look like crap too. I think you could sell a lot more comics if you updated the covers. I know that most people still have non-Retina iPads but this will change soon. Please make this a priority.

Great update, still 1 major flaw. Much need improvements in navigation, readability, and stability. Love that I no longer have to manually resize each page before and after reading when using landscape view - now simply scroll, then tap to turn page, great! Random crashes while reading seem to have been eliminated, but I still can't do a search for "Star Wars" without the app crashing. Would be nice to be able to start reading comics while they're still downloading, but even without that, fix the search crashes and it's a 5-star app.

no worse than other comic store apps. the app may be a little slow and/or laggy, but so is DC's (can't comment on marvel). I'm not sure what other features the other publisher's apps have that people complain are missing from this one... you can read I'm either full page or zoom views. what else do you need? my biggest complaint is more about the store than the app itself. WHY can't dark horse offer the variant cover versions of each book to download. sometime I really would like the variant cover and it makes no sense that they're not available digitally... how hard could it be to create an alternate version of the file with a different thumbnail and one page swapped out?

Great app, issues resolved. The app is overall pretty great. Lots of content with awesome quality, and the downloads are quick. "However, recently I have had an issue with downloading things. I paid for a comic and when it starts downloading it says: "Failed to download -insert name of comic here.-" This is a new problem, because I've downloaded several comics before this one. But I've also tried redownloading previous comics from my archive and not even those are working right (to elaborate further, the one I bought and failed to download is also sitting in my archive waiting to be successfully downloaded). So I'm waiting for this problem to fix. When it does, I'll up my rating to five. For now I'm letting it stand at three, because this issue is somewhat frustrating." This issue ended up fixing itself, so as promised I bumped it up to five stars.

Great content. App could use some work.. The content that is available in this app is a brilliant and eclectic blend of today's top comics creators. The app, on the other hand, has been very problematic on my original iPad. There's a lot of lag in the user interface. I think it tries to pull much data from the iTunes store in the main thread. Overall, it's a bit of a frustrating experience. But as long as this is the only place I can get "The Goon", I'll keep coming back. I wish they'd put up Fear Agent, too. That would make me very happy.

Perfection!. The app has gotten a lot of love in the last few updates and it is super fast and responsive now. Everything is working as expected, even with big libraries ...and everyone should have big libraries of Dark Horse Comics. Especially since Star Wars will be going away. If you buy them here, they'll stick around even after SW goes to Marvel. Dark Horse support is fast and responsive but you probably won't need them now that the app is working so well.

Want content, app is poor. Have to reluctantly agree with Tomso's accurate, earlier review. This app is only making me wish I could just work with Comixology's app instead. Pros: Lots of good content, including things I haven't seen in print in years, like the Ghost Omnibus. Relatively spartan and clean design makes browsing fun when it works smoothly; however... Cons: Links like the one to the Mass Effect Art digital book don't work or aren't updated. Notification badges don't work correctly. Silly background button at left top. Crashes constantly, stutters constantly, can't permanently delete garbage I didn't want, archive and retrieve buttons too small and finicky. Earlier content would be great. Dark Horse has a lot of pre-app stuff begging for eyeballs. Link to iTunes store is sketchy. No obvious dedicated settings button. A good update would rate at least four stars. Improving the library with good early content would give it five and higher if I could manage it.

Crashes frequently. Better options elsewhere.. I am a huge fan of Dark Horse titles. Read them a lot on my iPad. The big problem that I have is that there content can be purchased cheaper elsewhere. So therefore I only have a few titles on their app. To give you an example, you can only purchase each episode of a title, not the entire volume. Each episode will cost you $1.99, yet you can get the entire volume set elsewhere for $1.73 per episode and in one volume set, not just individual episodes. I use other apps to read their content. I use this app mostly for searching and previewing.

Content Good, some glitches in app. Dark horse has some great content - Savage Sword of Conan, Tarzan, etc. and the new content they have made in these areas is good quality. Its great to re-read all the comics I used to read as a kid, countless boxes in my iPad now. There are glitches in the Dark Horse reader though - sometimes it will shrink a page small in the upper left corner and can be hard to recover. It also can just quit out of the blue. Usually if you are patient and retry it picks up where you left off. Five stars for content, three stars for the app, four overall.

Great Comics but mediocre app. The interface for this app is not up to par with its competitors. Compared to the Comic X app it falls way short. However this app is required to enjoy certain series that Comic X does not have. So if you enjoy Hellboy, Star Wars, and the Conan Series then you will want this app. The performance for the app can be laggy at times as well. If you have the first generation iPad it may crash from time to time, especially noticeable browsing the store. I find the panel zoom feature minimal. The Comic X does a bit better job by blacking or whiting out everything in the background except for the current panel in view. The Dark Horse app unfortunately just simply zooms in. In some cases it can be confusing as to what you are supposed to be looking at with all the other drawings if the page still visible. In Summary, I really enjoy the series available from Darkhorse publisher but I find the polish of the app a bit dissappointing compared to it's rivals. Hopefully they will update the stability and interface issues in the future.

Bad app, great comics. Dark Horse comics are great. Their app leaves a lot to be desired. The bookshelf and collection have no usable way to sort the collection. Everything is just dumped into one container. At the least each series should be grouped together. The image quality is also not nearly as sharp as the HD renderings on the comixology app. After viewing the beautifully images on the computations app, reading the Dark Horse app is a bit of a visual letdown. The quality of the comics themselves, story and artwork, are top notch. The app tarnishes the experience a great deal. Unfortunately, until these issues are addressed, Dark Horse is the one company I will not purchase the digital versions.

Great Comics, Lousy Application. Dark Horse team, if you are reading this, please just let your community transfer our books to Comixology. The comics are awesome but this application pales in comparison to Comixology’s tech. The UI is confusing and convoluted, the Dark Horse version of Guided View is clunky at best, and why do I have to hunt all over for what I was reading if the app crashes? Why does the app still crash all these versions later? I really regret making purchases here that I could have made in Comixology. We are going on a lot of years now too, so no confidence in any fixes or interface improvements for the future.

Excellent app. The app is excellent! I like the fact that once you finish reading one book, you get a single click prompt to start reading the next book in the series. I also like the update icons so you know when a new issue has been released. The book resolution is great and I like the fact that I can also access my purchased titles through any web browser.

Good. As another reviewer said, the red text on gray background is hard to read. I'm also very mixed about the idea of having a darkhorse app at all--I wish I could have one app for all my comics. And now that you can't buy apps in comixology, I really don't want that to be it. Honestly, this is probably the best comic app/store on iOS, assuming you only want to read darkhorse comics, it's just unfortunate there can't be one solution. Keep up the good work--just tweak the interface a little to make it easier to read.

What. The. Hell.. Case and point ladies and gentlemen of the Darkhorse company; When you add complete star wars series I will give you and emphatic and eloquent 5 star rating. I love comic book stories, but I have never liked the actual comic books. I don't want the hard copies; they are much too fragile and cluttering for me to want a collection. So, when I heard that this app has Star Wars I freaked out and immediately started reading. Episode 1, cha-ching; episode 2, cha-ching; episode 3, cha-ching, and on and on until I hit a freakin' brick wall! Why the hell wouldn't you put the whole series on there?????????? I WILL NOT BUY THEM IN HARD COPY, so if you want my money you better add complete up to date star wars series ; than I will love you and there will be peace in the galaxy

Content fine app buggy and a bit too limited. The comics are great but the app is very buggy. It sometimes freezes and you have to go back to the library to get it going again. Also I am missing some important features that other reader apps such as comixology have, such as a full-page view at the beginning and/or end of reading a page in guided view mode. I like reading in guided view but I want to also be able to see the page lay-out which is important for thr enjoyment of comic art.

What else was a gonna do?!. After Firefly I wanted... No no I needed more. Then Serenity came out & I like most every fan was happy but still how did we get there from objects in space to Serenity? What happened that made Shepard leave? Where did they get the money to make all the improvements to the ship I saw in the movie? What's up the the Blue Hand Guy? Now with this app I can read the Serenity comics & get some answers! Now if that don't get people to buy this app then look at it like this IT'S FREE!!!

Integrated and Reliable. This app functions well as a basic comic book reader, combined with a storefront for buying comics. It allows you to store your content on the web, but requires you to download any of the comics that you're reading. Both the store and the reader have room for improvement, but for what it does, this is a very stable app that offers customers a positive and simple gateway into Dark Horse Comics' extensive catalogue of comics!

Far more than I expected. To start off, honestly, I'm not a huge fan of comics or graphic novels so when I downloaded this app I expected an easy to use interface and that was about it. I was taken completely by surprise, however, by how slick and intuitive everything is! Reading comic books in landscape on my (the new) iPad and flipping through frame by frame rather than page by page is amazing and honestly how all comics should be read; It's just so much more dynamic than flipping pages.

Not bad, needs more organization. This is a very easy to use app, nicely put together, but it does need a bit more in the way of organization. I don't like that I have to see all the comics I own on the same page. It's cluttered and makes finding the one I want increasingly difficult. I want to have one page that I choose the series I want on that takes me to that series. Having one level higher in which I can choose the verse I'm looking for would be nice, too. Going to the website to find bundles is also a bit obnoxious.

Could use more fine tuning. Overall the app is good. Dark Horse has many options for the stories and series that they produce. However, my issues stem from the app itself. At times it is all but impossible to bring up the options menu. It would be nice if the touch zones were a little more defined. Further, when the "slide to panel" option is used, it will often automatically turn off when an unspecified zone is hit. Trying to get this option to be able to turn on leading to the issue with frustration one. It's very cyclical.

Good comics, horrible app. Dark horse has some of the best comics around; frm hellboy to goon to massive. BUT... this app constantly crashes, takes over five minutes to open (only to crash again), or tells me I don't have money for purchases that I tried making months ago (at the time, yes I did have money for them, but for some reason the app did not like that I was using an itunes gift card). This app is so frustrating that I rarely open it because I don't want to get angry. Support has told me how to fix it and I have followed their instructions to the letter only to have the app crash the next time I open it. Dark Horse please fix your app because as things stand, you have lost me as a customer.

Much more stable. With this newest major update to their app, Dark Horse has finally shown that they're capable of giving products like Comixology a run for their money. Between their excellent original content, classics like the various Hellboy and Buffy series, their venturing into transmedia with video game and television-show based comics, they've created quite a base from which to grow and compete in the digital comic market. All of this is now tied to a purchase, delivery, and reader system that is *much* more stable than their original and much easier to use.

Excellent App. This app for Dark Horse comics is an excellent comic reading app. While you buy the comics through their website, once purchased your comics show up in the "cloud" screen and with a tap you can download them to the device for reading. The settings are pretty basic and allow for smooth transitions between frames and pages and zooming is very easy. Recommended for easy reading of your DH comics.

This app desperately needs to be rebuilt. First I want to say that a big fan of many Dark Horse titles and a love the idea of owning digital copies of the comics I love. But this app is embarrassing. It doesn’t even launch for me anymore. I’ve reinstalled it on more than one occasion and I’m sick of this. It doesn’t work. Fix it. Whoever you outsourced this to, whomever you have developing this in house, pay attention to the reviews here. They don’t lie. This is indicative of your customer’s experience and it’s not good. Update: For the love of god, fix your broken app. At this point I’m ready to demand a refund for the entirety of my digital library. What’s the point in having it if the platform doesn’t work.

Best way to read dark horse comics!!!. I have been a reader of comics for over 20 years and I love the new digital formats. I have read it on my pc, mac, and iphone. All of my books are there, waiting for me to read them! The prices are excellent and I find that I am spending more time enjoying the books vs futzing with them. And as my library grows, they are all there and available to me at any time. Great product! Update: still awesome!

Very Happy with App. Overall the app does exactly what you want it to do, which is to allow the reading of comic books without actually walking into a store (not having a local shop makes reading my Star Wars books via the app all the more satisfying) Would be nice to be able to 'subscribe' to a series though. I do not always get my books in a timely manner and find the 'search through series' function to be tedious If you are willing to wait a bit, the lowering of cover prices is great as well!

Re-review. Another review after a year, I took the time to reinstall this app and poke around. It seems Dark Horse has the power to remove negative reviews because my old one is gone. Setting that aside, the app hasn't grown at all in a year. It is still laggy, unlike Comix. They are still trying to sell old comics as new comics. They still don't have most of there comics on the site. Hardly any graphic novels are up. A small fraction of the Star Wars universe is on the store, none of the good stuff. Your locker were you store you comics is laggy as well, even after a fresh install on a ipad3 , they are pushing down garbage that I didn't want or asked for. Dark horse looks like they are pay lip service to the customers still and not moving forward with innovation and listening to the paying customers.

you think about reading comics.. So I bought the app hoping to keep up with the few comics I've been reading. My local options are either stupid expensive, or just too far to drive reasonably to spend $2.99. The App is nice, has an attractive layout. The comics display beautifully on the retina display. However it hangs up far too often. I've not had it crash, but it might as well. Touching any of the "featured' comic series returns a "No Comics Found" everytime. Searching for a series in the store is no better. It will usually only return results that you already have in your collection. Hopefully they will get these problems sorted quickly. iPhone4 Ver 5.0.1, Verizon Network (3G)

Would be better with a Fit-to-Width setting. The app works well (on the new iPad, anyway. It chugs a bit on my 1st Gen. iPad), but I would prefer to have a fit-to-width option that would make the comic page fill the width of the iPad, allowing you to scroll down to see the rest of the page. Most comic pages are a bit too small on the iPad and using the feature supported in other apps has proven to be the best experience for me.

Good app but. I wish I could give this a 3.7. First off, everyone that is giving poor ratings because you want free comics, you are stupid. It's meant to give you on demand access to comics. Anyways, I LOVE the selection. Every star wars comic ever. However the interface could use some work. It needs to have an auto rotate option when you are on panel zoom. It gets tiresome constantly rotating your phone. Secondly, sometimes when you zoom in and back out, it automatically deselects panel zoom and you have to go back into settings in the middle of reading, very frustrating. Fix these and I would give it a 5.

Incredibly buggy app. It's amazing that something as simple as an app to download and read comics is apparently something beyond Darkhorse's ability. There are so many bugs at every level, with every update it's ridiculous. Here are a few: can't connect to Darkhorse servers on startup, can't download a book preview, a books price isn't listed, can't buy a book, books are in my collection then they aren't...please, Darkhorse, just stop pretending you can go it alone and list your books on Comixology. They are competent enough to make a system that works. You are not. You're obviously in over your head. Make comics and leave apps to someone who knows what they're doing.

Needs an upgrade STILL - Crash-tastic!. Love the comics, love getting access on my iPad, but the app needs some serious work. It pales in comparison to the ones from Marvel, DC and IDW, which are all based on Comixology. Much smoother operation. I find it frustrating to get into this store. I also dislike that every time I open the app, all the comics are again marked "new" even if I read them long ago. Also want to be able to see in the store what's new. Generally, this needs better organization or Dark Horse needs to start using the Comixology platform. UPDATE: New revision of the app looks nice, but is still "clunky" to use. Very slow on Wifi, crashes repeatedly when connected to the store, and often tells me I'm not connected to the internet when I am. Don't have these problems with other comics apps. UPDATE: App crashes regularly. Usually after about 2 minutes' use, app crashes and you have to re-start. Still clunky. Love the comics. Hate the app. UPDATE: Have left several comments on Dark Horse's Facebook page, with no response. The app won't even stay open long enough to complete a purchase. Worthless at this point.

Overall great. This is a good, one of the better comic apps out there. The selection of Buffy-verse is great enough as it is. A few needs improvement; infrequent crashes to desktop are annoying. I'd like to see more bundle deals, particularly for older comics, at least two years old. We shouldn't be paying full price for a digital copy of a backdated issue. I'd also like to be able to buy the same bundle deals on iPad as on the dark horse website. But, that said, there are more deals and sales on dark horse than any other, so great job.

Disappointing update. I refuse to download comics illegally, and some of my favorite comics are Dark Horse, but this app leaves a lot to be desired compared to its primary competition, Comixology. The new version seems to have some improvements in the store, but the bookshelf is still just a list of every comic you own--an index by title would be much easier to browse. The upgrade also seems to have done something bad to the multitouch functions; it doesn't pick up on page-turning as well as it used to. In all, the new version is a wash. I'm a captive audience so I'll keep using the thing. It's not unbearable. It's just not what I'd call good, either.

Really good. I found this app to be a really good item added to my collection of apps the variety and search engine were easy to use and extremely well endowed with my favorite comics old and new. The box-to-box feature was a new for me and I found it to be very cool and a better way to read a comic. Though there are the occasional glitches were I open the app only to have it close by its self automatically after a couple of second, but well worth it. In short it is one of my most priced app and would not get rid of it for the world.

Really irritates me. I've had the same repeating problem for months: I get the newsletter showing certain issues are available but they never show up for download in the app. Been back and forth with support, and they've been responsive, but there's something really wrong somewhere because this doesn't get permanently resolved. The reader itself is great and so is the content, but as of this writing it's been two weeks since yet another title came out that I still can't access, which obviously diminishes the app's value. I wish there was an alternative since, really, I just want to read, not troubleshoot.

Great, but could use some minor improvements. I really like what Dark horse has done with this app. The user experience is pretty darn great, especially since the last update. I've only found some minor things that bug me like not being able to jump to the store page of a series from a comic in your bookshelf/archive. Also, alerts to whenever the next edition of the series I follow is available would be nice. Regardless, this is still a great app and an awesome way of accessing the Dark Horse catalog. Good job devs!

Great app with a couple of issues. I really like this app however I have bought and downloaded all the Mass Effect comics and art book and still haven't recieved my ME3 codes via email junk or inbox. Also some minor issues with downloading sometimes but nothing that strays me away. Comics are top notch and download fairly quick. One thing that would be nice would be the ability to get into your account from app and see all your codes may may have received kind of like the GameStop app. Other than that great app.

So Much Better Now. Since the new update, I am really digging this app. Before the new update, my comics wouldn't load. I would have to purchase my comics on my laptop to download to my iPad later. Now I can make in-app purchases. I love the digital comic choices as well. I love The Strain, Dollhouse, Angel & Faith, and Buffy. The comic shops in my area only order a handful, if any, of these comics so I usually can't purchase them. Keep the updates coming!!

Content 4 Stars/App 3 Stars. It is a shame that great content is delivered through such a horribly designed application. I also use Comixology(DC&Marvel) which works well, is easy to find new content, and my collections are easily managed. Dark Horse claims they can't sell bundles due to Apple limitations while bundles are readily available through the other aforementioned apps. Please deliver something worthwhile or bite the bullet and license the Comixology App. I truly want to read Dark Horse content, but decide most of the time it isn't worth the effort and give my money to the competition.
