The applications Pocket Casts was published
in the category News on 2011-01-26 and
was developed by ShiftyJelly PTY LTD.
The file size is 49.84 MB.
The current version is 6.9.3 and works well on
10.0 and high ios versions.
Version 6.9.3 Fixes layout issues with iOS 10 and the podcast and now playing pages.
In case you missed it, version 6.9.2:
- Added episode details to the Apple Watch app so you can read about an episode before playing it (or force touch to star, mark as played, play next or play last).
- Apple Watch app now shows playback progress.
- Added force touch chapter buttons to the Apple Watch Now Playing page. You're welcome.
- There's a phone which we're not allowed to name launching, and in theory this version supports that phone. We have no further comment at this time.
- Fixes a Google Cast crash when casting to a group of audio devices.
- Podcast images now load faster than ever before. As part of this change the app will need to clear out your current artwork. It will only do that once, and should reload it when it needs it.
- Various other enhancements and fixes.
I love you all pocket team thank you for an awesome app it is my daily driver for everything, everyday, every second!!!!!! Now. iPhone X(10😒) may I?! Could we pleaseeeeeeee get a true black Dark theme ?!! Pretty please team ?!!! Muchas bateriassss se salvarian! 🤯🙏😘 Gracias ! -Royal
Love everything about this app and have been using it for years. One request is to please make the dark mode background for iPhone X pure black rgb:0,0,0. Dark grey actually doesn’t look great on this phone, but pure black is awesome as it blends into the bezel of the phone (see Apples stock tracker app). Thanks!!!
Look, you could probably stick with Apple’s app if you only listen on a single device. It’s perfectly average. But after trying a ton of different alternatives, I can’t believe I ever settled for less than Pocket Casts. It’s got a great design, discovering & adding new feeds is easy. It’s worth the $3.99. My only regret is I didn’t start using it sooner.
I lasted about a minute before deleting this clunker of an app. Instead of just showing you a list of your show’s episodes, it shows you a short list and makes you click “load more” ad infinitum, giving you another couple with every click, working backwards chronologically. I wanted to listen to episode 1 in a show with over 500 episodes, so the hell with that.
Way better than podcast app
I recommend Pocket Casts, which is far superior to the dreadful Spotify podcasts experience, and is quite more refined than Apple’s bloated experience. Casts is all an application, especially a podcast application, needs to be. I am curious, however with skepticism, to see how willing the developers are to add even more features; for instance, I’ve always wished for the ability to add personal notes to my podcasts, but I’ve not found an app that can do that yet. Here’s to hoping 😬
Once i switched to this player, i found i was listening to more of whatever i felt like at that moment, missing fewer episodes, almost never having to stream (vs download), and spending zero time managing storage space
I used this app for a long time. It was my favorite podcast app by far. Out of curiosity I went back to the Apple podcast app to see how it felt. The one thing Pocket Casts is missing is good discoverability. For some reason it’s severely lacking compared to Apple’s it’s just not easy to discover other podcasts you might like. It’s like going to my bedroom bookshelf verses Barnes and Noble. My other big problem is it took a very long time to bring us a Watch app and it’s pretty much unusable. Now that the watch has a now playing complication built in it takes a split second to pause or skip ahead in a podcast. My work day is almost entirely dependent on my podcasts at this point so quick response and finding new ones to listen to are massive. Definitely deserves 3 stars, because of all the third party efforts, this is the best. It just can’t touch Apple’s depth.
After Apple made their Podcasts app super clunky and buggy with iOS 11 (why does it take a whole minute to load each time it’s been closed? And why would they get rid of the "mark as played" feature?), I am so happy to have found Pocket Casts. It is intuitive, rarely freezes, and syncs well across devices. Thank you, Shifty Jelly!
I love how it's sync between computer , iOS and Android as I often utilize all three. Chromecast and Airplay? You bet, Video podcast ? Yup, got that too. Clean UI and intuitive which helps navigating around the app as well as volume boost and trim silence something I used similarly on overcast so glad it has this features too. P4P best podcast for one time fee and not a subscription based model.
1. Select podcast 2. Tap [...] Button 3. Delete File 4. Delete (yes I'm sure) 5. Tap out-of-focus area to return to podcast list Why not just: 1. tap and hold 2. delete (same place as the "Add to up next" option) Have a temporary non-modal "undo last delete" button if you're so worried people will inadvertently delete something. Or even an "Edit list" button, multi-select checkboxes, "delete all selected". No, if I want to delete 10 podcasts it's 50 tedious taps.
This is the best podcast app. The web and native apps are top notch too. Worth every penny.
I've tried Overcast, I've tried Castro, I even toyed with Ottoradio today, but Pocket Casts is the only one that caters to my listening habits. I love the long press "up-next" function. I love that it does not force me to reckon with every new episode of every show I subscribe to in chronological order. It has all the functions of those other apps you love too. It really is the best one.
Does everything I've ever needed from someone podcast app. The developer is incredibly responsive to bug reports.
Laggy interface in iOS 11
Really nice app. It would almost be my primary go to if it had all the podcasts I listen to. I have to go to another app to fill in some missing podcasts I can’t seem to get on here sadly. It’s otherwise a beautifully designed app with so many great features!
Got this app after reading good reviews because I didn’t like the latest Apple podcast update. I did not expect and do not welcome the ads delivered by he app (not the ones from my subscribed podcasts) otherwise it is no better or worse than the apple one.
Best podcasting software on any platform. easy to use, looks great, syncs remarkably well and has complicated options without being complicated. Also out designed Apple, thats pretty cool.
I was a long time Overcast user and loved it! As I collected more and more podcasts with a heap of new episodes every day I thought I'd give PocketCasts a try... It is incredibly customisable which is really important for podcast management, the up-next feature works really well, it looks great, and has a really good discovery section. PocketCasts is easily the best podcast player out there. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
After moaning and being frustrated by the Apple podcast player I downloaded Pocket Casts and have been rewarded. Bug free, simple, responsive and good looking. It works without fuss or fanfare. Totally worth paying for.
I wanted to like this because it doesn’t require a subscription like other podcast apps and it seemed marginally better than the iOS podcast app - but I just don’t. The UI is menus, menus, menus and menus within menus. I can’t keep track of what later of menu list I’m on half the time and I lost track of where my episodes are. Having options is good - but they shouldn’t get in the way of the basic functions of your app. I’m sadly going back to he iOS app. For all of its flaws the UI design makes logical sense to me.
After using apples podcast app for the last decade iOS 11 made it almost not usable anymore. So I was forced to look for another podcast app which has the right mix of features and usability. I found it with this app and I’m happy to have a new podcast app which feels so much better compared to the Apple one. Thanks for that and keep up the good work!
For over four years now, Pocket Casts has been my favorite podcast app I’ve ever used. Super easy to use, very nice interface, syncing across platforms is a godsend, and the team is probably one of my favorite development teams i've ever seen. Own it on three different platforms and probably won't be switching to anything else any time soon! The only issue I can find with this app is that in poor connections, streaming can get stuck and just not work properly. Other podcast players don't have this issue that I can tell, but Pocket Casts gets stuck buffering. Not a major issue since low connection is very rare but still a bit annoying
Or at least I don’t see how to create them. I purchased this when Apple got rid of playlists in iOS 11. I have a language learning podcast and it’s divided into Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. I created 3 playlists with iOS 10.3. Can’t do that here. If there’s a way I don’t see it. Also I want all episodes to play continuously, not stop after each episode. I listen to my podcasts while driving and working out in the gym. Not safe to look at my phone to play the next episode, especially when it takes several button clicks. I wrote the developers to see if this is available and I’m just not seeing it. . If anyone can show me that these two things are available on this app I will revise my rating.
Wonderful app. Has dark mode, shows you downloaded episodes in one section rather than having to find them through each individual podcast. Aesthetically pleasing and allows you to custom sort and gives you several options on the layout. The search function does not appear to find specific podcast episodes but everything else is great.
Buyer beware! This app does not support subscriptions to podcasts that require a username and password authentication.
Great podcast player, like Overcast but without the subscription bs.
I have been listening to podcasts for a decade now, and I have sadly seen the usability of the podcasts feature in iTunes decrease dramatically. In recent years, I have also seen the iOS podcasts app get more and more complicated and less and less usable. With the iOS 11 update, I had to jump ship from Apple Podcasts and find an alternative. If you love podcasts like I do, Pocket Casts is the app for you. It has a clean, simple, attractive, and intuitive interface, great options for customization, and a browser counterpart as well to listen from your desktop or laptop. I highly recommend this app to any podcast listener. A great value for the money.
I love Pocket Casts and use it nearly every day. The things I’d like to see the most are: 1. A slider for adjusting the playback speed, so I don’t have to tap my fingers to the bone (I adjust the speed quite often), and screen-tap RSI is a real thing. 2. An indication of the playback speed on the main player control page, so I don’t have to open the speed control panel just to know the speed.
When the app is opened in carplay why doesn't it open to the current podcast that I'm listening to?Instead I have to use my phone and resume my podcast that way. There should be an option to okay through my unlistened to podcasts instead I have to create a playlist.
