I’m just here to celebrate the autoplay feature.. Updating this review after launching(bring it back) the new Autoplay feature: The developers listened! This update makes this app my podcast end game. I will keep my words and raise my rating. ————————————————————— Before you introduce all the other fancy features, please solve the most basics problem: allow your users to listen one episode after another without manually adding to the queue. It’s counter intuitive and disrupt the most basic user flow for people who only want to listen to one podcast. It’s like you have a playlist already and constantly asking users to add the next song to another playlist! I’m being waiting for years for this basic feature and now I m leaving. The rating would not go up until this is added.

Great replacement for Apple Podcasts. I’ve been using Apple Podcasts for the past ten years and have seen its interface go from easy and straightforward to complicated and lacking of up front info. I started looking for another app and found Pocket Casts. Downloaded it and got it set up with the basics and it was like a breath of fresh air. All of my podcasts are right up front and easy to access. I especially like the info screens (Notes) for episodes that are easy to see and give the info I’m looking for. The ability to touch an episode and not have it start playing is another bonus as Apple always irritated me when I’m just trying to find out info about a cast and have to click on a tiny link under the title to go to the cast for info. The big and straightforward download and play arrows tell just what I need to know about the podcast I’m looking at. Once I learned how to use and set up the filters I was absolutely hooked. The included New Releases filter is great and I added one that shows me what I have downloaded so that I can basically use it as a playlist. BTW I haven’t had any issues with downloading and episodes of one cast I subscribe to that were never available on Apple are readily available through Pocket Casts. I could go on and on but, all in all, I’m loving Pocket Casts right now and have completely switched over to it from Apple Podcasts without any regrets.

Poor support and wonky app. Apparently, the developer has decided to only provide support through their forum. That is, unless you are a monthly subscriber to their app. I paid for features long time ago that they now give away for free but apparently that doesn’t matter. Overall, this is a good app however, it has a very bad habit of silently logging you out of your account. This is a major problem because you have no way of knowing this happened. Weeks or months later when you login again, you will lose all of the history of podcast you played, any new subscriptions, and you will end up re-downloading old podcast episodes. You might think that’s not a big deal but I have more than 24 podcast subscriptions and it is a giant pita to recover from this problem. This bug has been present for years and has gotten noticeably worse in 2023.

Look beyond the Apple store average and give Pocket Cast a look...you will not be disappointed!. I have been an Audible junkie for the past 5 years and just started listening to Podcasts about 6 months ago. I have literally tried most of the podcast apps (The Podcast App, Overcast, Castbox, Podbean, Himalaya, Breaker and Castro) in search of the best podcast app. To be honest, I did not try Pocket Casts because of the low rating on Apple App Store. I downloaded the Pocket Cast app the other day and think they have one of the best (if not the best) user interface of any podcast app I have tried with the best functionality. The interface is smooth, they have very playback effect available (speed control, trim the silence and volume boost), an easy to access notes section that gives you the option to jump to a certain section of the podcast if available, and a nice way to organize the podcasts you subscribe to (although Castbox give the greatest control). In addition, you can stream via Chromecast (not all apps provide this) and a really nice iPad app that syncs nicely with you iPhone app. This is really a great app! Look past the overall score of this app on the Apple store and give this app a look. You will not regret it!

Best podcast app with a few quirks. I want to just echo what most other reviewers are saying, in that Pocket Casts is the best podcast player out there. The UI in my opinion should used as an example in exemplary design in UI/UX programs or schools. I’ve tried others like Overcast or Google Podcasts, but I keep coming back to Pocket Casts. They’ve really put a ton of effort in refining their app over the years, often including entirely new features for free. They’re also one of the few companies that includes a quality web player so you keep up with your podcasts while your on your computer. As someone who relies on this app daily, it’s only natural that some issues might arise from time to time. One feature I use heavily is the ability to Cast podcast episodes to our Google Home or Nest speakers. Most of the time it works fine, but lately it seems like there’s some communication or latency issues between the server and the app. There is a long standing issue where if you finish a podcast episode while Chromecasting and your phone’s screen locked, then when you unlock your phone and go back to the app, the episode you just finished will still show it’s progress as being where it was prior to the screen being locked. Overall, this app is a must have. None of the other podcast apps, including the overly praised Overcast, come close to matching the ease of use and simple pleasure of using Pocket Casts!

No longer good. Quality has definitely gone down. Not sure if it’s new software engineers or something else but for sure not the same as it used to be. You press on a podcast episode and it won’t play. Nothing happens. You wait and wait and still nothing. Kill the app restart and nothing. Then 30 min later after you’ve given up it just starts playing out of no where. What bothers me most is when you tweet your complaint or send feedback they respond pretty quick asking “please give us details so we can fix the problem”. Well…it just doesn’t work. I’m not going to troubleshoot off your engineer to figure out where he/she went wrong. It’s like Microsoft where they don’t really test their software and then just rely on “feedback” to fix ongoing bugs. My suggestion: get some real engineers, preferably on the same continent and actually test your product daily and don’t just sit back and wait for feedback. Google podcasts works flawlessly and I will be using thst from now on. I’m not a test subject and expect my software to work each time and every time.

Well thought out design. Poor audio quality. This is an update to my old review as that review is no longer relevant. First off, this app is amazing. Stable, reliable, well designed, responds well. It’s very easy to use and loaded with well implemented features. However, there is one thing that prevents me from giving it 5 stars: the sound quality. It’s just awful. The app crushes the lower bass frequencies and makes podcasts sound poor. Once they remove this sound processing non-sense (or at least give me an option to turn it off) I will be glad to subscribe to your monthly Pocket Casts +Plus. But I don’t want to subscribe to an app that makes podcasts audio quality sound like they were recorded on cheap microphones. Meanwhile, I will continue to use the unfriendly design of Apple Podcasts app because at least there podcasts sound nice and natural. But once Pocket Casts fixes the sound quality issue, I will switch to Pocket Casts and will be glad to pay.

Pocket Casts won me over. I’m very picky about the apps I use to listen to podcasts. The Apple one doesn’t work the way I need it to for queuing episodes. I used to really like one of the competing indy podcast apps but started noticing a lack of updates and promotion in the past year, so I decided to check out Pocket Casts instead due to a promotion I heard on the Downstream podcast. After getting acclimated, I find it checks all the boxes, works exactly how I need it to (the up-next queuing works great), and is very thoughtfully designed. The Apple Watch app is well done, as is the web player which I will occasionally run while using my Windows-based work laptop. I look forward to continuing to use Pocket Casts as my main podcast player and I am interested to see how this app continues to grow and improve under the stewardship of Automattic.

Great podcatcher app, one big flaw. I love Pocket Casts. Sick of how buggy and confusing the proprietary Apple podcast app is, I switched to Pocket Casts over a year ago and haven’t looked back. The UI is much cleaner and easier to navigate. My one complaint is that the search feature is very basic and only searches for whole podcasts rather than podcast episodes. (So for example, let’s say I want to listen to a podcast episode about the infamous Dyatlov Pass incident; searching “Dyatlov Pass” wouldn’t yield episodes about Dyatlov Pass from various podcasts, it would only yield podcasts whose name happens to be similar to or contain the words “Dyatlov Pass”.) That’s a real shame because the one good thing about the proprietary Apple podcast app was that I liked using the search feature to search for some niche subject I was interested in, and I would discover new podcasts by listening to their episode about the thing I wanted to hear about. On Pocket Casts, I just have to just kind of browse their discover page and hope that I find some podcast that happens to have some episodes that interest me.

Another App Shoves The Woke Agenda Down Our Throats. I don’t care if you want to make a rainbow icon for those that care about Pride month, but to force it on those of us that don’t by changing our default icon to a pride one (without consent ) is going too far. You could have left the default icon alone and have the app ask users if they want to opt in to celebrate Pride month. That would have been fine, but changing it automatically without letting people decide for themselves is an aggro move against many of your users. There are many users of your app that I imagine don’t realize or know how to change the look of their icon away from the Pride one and now will be stuck with an icon that they may not appreciate. Please respect everyone. I am perfectly fine with there being an option to have a special icon celebrating that month but respect but is a two-way street.

Feature Rich, Some Irritating Bugs. I switched over from the stock Apple podcasts app and am satisfied with the decision. Customizing the playlist, auto loading new episodes, preset skipping at the beginning and end of podcasts are very nice features. Some thing that don’t work super well include poor sensitivity to moving podcasts manually around in a playlist and the app not loading/downloading new episodes promptly after release or having a good way to get them when the app hasn’t updated new episodes. Occasionally, new episodes don’t get automatically loaded to playlists for reasons I don’t understand. Definitely a step up from basic podcast apps, but it has some issues that will probably annoy you. Hope the developers can iron these issues out.

Search function and autoplay. The only gripe I have with this app is that the search function isn't particularly helpful. General search will only yield words within a podcast’s whole title (rather than the title or description of the episode). Only within that podcast’s listing can you sift through the episodes themselves using the search function. This means that finding individual podcasts on any particular subject is quite hard, and is only really possible if the entire podcast is dedicated to said subject. I re-downloaded apple’s podcasting app just to do searches. I also don’t know if other users love the auto play function, but all it does for me is cycle through the last thirty seconds of ads for every podcast I haven’t quite finished. Other than that, the app is quite nifty.

Great but neglected. It’s still my favorite podcast app, and I’ve been using it for years, but it has a few fundamental problems which are not being fixed. One of the reasons besides the design (which is great), is that it has a decent web interface so I can listen from the web as well. I do pay for this feature. Here’s what’s broken and support doesn’t really help unfortunately: Playback sometimes seems to repeat parts of the podcast. You will be listening and then suddenly you have a sense of deja vu, when it goes back 20 minutes and repeats. You can spend lots of time customizing your rules like how many episodes to keep per podcast, your priorities of which podcasts should be added to the up next queue but guess what? If you have more than one device like an iPad and a phone for example, those customizations do not sync across them. Seems like something which needs to be implemented because the sync of the up next queue is fantastic. This app also has been sold a number of times to different companies and it seems stagnant, but it’s so good that it still is very good. I really hope they work on these things it’s my favorite still.

What Apple Podcasts SHOULD Be. Insanely good app for a free service. I've put in hundreds of hours on here and have only ever had one issue in the last 3 years of use: Playback on any and all bluetooth devices (especially on higher speed settings) will sometimes skip back 1-5 minutes of content without warning or prompting in all sorts of environments: touching the phone, not holding the phone, hot/cold weather, different headsets, speakers, or in the car, on or off wifi, downloaded or streamed episodes. Not sure how this has so consistently gone on for over 2 years and not been fixed yet. Otherwise, a perfect UI and service, IMO. I'm strongly against the subscription payment, but if you just put out an option for a one time premium purchase, you'll get me to buy!

BELIEVE the negative reviews. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than these developers. That may seem harsh, but it’s the truth. They love to take your money and give you nothing back for it. “You paid us money for the app when we promised no subscriptions or freemiums? Hah, thanks for the dough, sucker, we’re going free and not even giving you a trial of our now locked behind a paywall features!” Ethical developers have always grandfathered in purchasers of their apps when the go subscription, but these guys failed ethics in college. Just look at how many disgruntled customers have the same issue that they say they never heard of. Now, as for the app itself, it’s a miracle if it plays the full podcast. If it works on CarPlay, it’s another miracle! If the audio doesn’t constantly cut out, holy cow, call the Pope because this app is only four miracles away from sainthood! Maybe they’ve locked usability behind the paywall, as well. To summarize, don’t use this. Don’t even gaze in its direction. And especially don’t give these shady thieves a dollar of your money. You could spend it much better on a cheeseburger, thumb tacks, an empty cardboard box, or just by burning it and blowing the ashes in the wind.

Thank You!!. I noticed in my stats that I was coming up on 365 days of total listening time.. I think that tells you all you need to know about this app. I really don’t write reviews, but I felt I took this app so for granted in my daily use, that I should write this. “Its a podcast player, how good could it be?” I’ve heard this a few times before converting friends and family. There are little settings, details, and the UI in this app is the pinnacle of user experience and thoughtfulness. If you listen to podcast/news everyday like I do, these things make a difference. Being in the app/design world, I confidently give Pocket Casts an A+. Now.. because I’ve been a user for like, 10 years probably? I was automatically granted Lifetime Membership, so I’m not sure what the standard cost is now, but, after even toying or trying other podcast apps, I’d say it’s worth the cost for the amount I use it on a daily basis. Also, just a shoutout too the Pocket Cast team for not money-grabbing the legacy members who bought the app years and years ago. TLDR; UI, thoughtful settings and options, separate this player from the rest, and have my loyalty.

Long-time user giving 5-stars but….. I love this app. I’ve tried them all and this is the cleanest most user-friendly interface out there. The album-style view with the ability to update the order is great. The user interface for playback is solid. The one wish I have is the ability to create a folder and place completed podcasts into that folder. I’m a true crime fan and roll through podcast, but I don’t want to delete them once completed. Why? Because so many podcast do legal follow-ups or second seasons about 6-12 months after the last podcast releases. I’d prefer to move these played podcasts into a folder and only visit them when a notification on the folder indicates a new podcast has posted. These are normally commercials anyway. This would declutter the main screen. Thanks!!!

Favorite podcast app but…. This is my favorite podcast app by far. The ability to add filters and the huge amount of control I have over what I play next is fantastic. And pocket casts actually shows the older episodes on my “up next” list on Apple CarPlay, something that Apple Podcasts refuses to do (for no good reason I can think of). However, I’ve been running into an error that makes it difficult to continue to use this app. Sometimes, when I’m listening to an episode, the player will jump back to a portion of the podcast I’ve already listened to. The problem is that when this happens, the timer/progress bar (scrubber? Idk tech names for UI elements) doesn’t update, and the podcast will stop playing when it reaches the end of the timer, rather than the end of the recording, which means I can’t listen to the end of the episode!!! The only way to fix it is to force close the app and then start playing the episode again, but it always starts playing at some random point so I have to spend time looking for where I got cut off. I mostly listen to podcasts while I work, which means my hands are busy, so I either have to stop what I’m doing to fix the app, or miss the end of my episode (and I listen to a lot of true crime—the end is the best part). This would easily be a 5 star app if I didn’t have to deal with this pretty significant inconvenience all the time.

Fantastic. I was looking for a way to cast podcasts from my iPhone or iPad to my Google Home and some online suggestions pointed me toward this app. At first I was wary to pay for the app but I don’t regret it. Others complain about the UI and I find it pretty simple and nice to use. Everything is organized in a way that I can manage the podcasts I’m subscribed to. Another great thing is the cross platform support. While the desktop app costs an additional $10, it isn’t that bad considering it’s a one-off fee. Instead of paying per-month or per-year, I think it’s better to just pay one time and be done. I can easily start a podcast in the car and later in the day continue it in the same spot (give or take a few seconds) on my computer or iPad.

Love this app!. I wasn't going to write a review today but after reading the version notes and seeing what a great sense of humor the writer has I just felt like I should. The thing that made me love Pocket Casts is that I can use the app and then my computer browser and this SERVICE actually keeps my podcasts updated and I can pick up where I left off while saving phone battery too. That is the whole reason I use it. I tried *many* different platforms, all the big names, that made that claim and I'm sorry to say they lie. To me that was worth the $10. PER YEAR PEOPLE. Not per month....per YEAR! Some of you spend more on coffee in a day than that. So idk, go without that extra coffee for 2 days and you've covered the whole year pretty much.

Best Podcast App on the Market!!. I rarely write reviews, but Pocket Casts deserves a five star from me. I’ve had Pocket Casts for a while after switching over from Apple’s. I can firmly say that this app is miles ahead from every other podcast app available. They over a slick design, simplicity, and amazing customizations. You can customize the playback and skip times to help you skip ads, there’s a volume booster for podcasts that are a bit more quiet, and it has a feature that allows you to cut silence in podcasts. The best part: this is all on the free version and thats only a few of the things you can do on it for free. Pocket Casts also doesn’t have ads nor do they pressure you to buy their premium version. I recommend this app to anyone looking for a good podcast provider.

Love the newest version. I’ve been a longtime user of Pocket Casts, and the latest version is a huge upgrade. The ability to upload your own files and drop them into the queue is wonderful! I occasionally check out other apps to see if there are any features I’m missing out on, and Pocket Casts always seems better. There’s still a little bit of wonkiness when manually reorganizing the queue, and I do wish they would bring landscape mode back from a couple versions ago. That said, the quick actions you can take on episodes or entire series, and the ability to easily see the status of each episode (downloaded, in the queue, already listened) are so much better than the other apps I’ve tried.

Probably the best podcast app, but still has 2 big holes. I do really like this, I’ve tried about 30 and this is the only one I’ve stuck with. However it has 2 major missing pieces in my opinion. 1). There is no algorithm to suggest podcasts you might like based on what you have been listening to. It also has no “if you enjoy this you might enjoy that” type lists for each podcast either. This makes it hard to find the really good new content on any given topic. For example if you like shoes about Cold Cases, you can search “cold case” and you will get a list of about 20 shoes with “cold case” in the title. But out of those, only 3 are any good, and there’s no suggestion for how to find more of the genre without the literal words cold case in the podcast title. I’ve actually downloaded another app that does that really well and I just subscribe to casts in both apps, Pocket Casts for actual listening, and the other app for show suggestions. 2). The other big item missing is the ability to make and save a variety of custom podcast playlists in the app to keep on hand. The filters are …kinda… like playlists but it’s so limited what you can do. Give us these 2 things and you will have a perfect app.

The BEST Podcast App!!. I started using this app at the beginning of December. I waited three months to leave a review to make sure I really liked it and it wasn’t just a fluke of relief from finally leaving that horrible apple podcast app. I must say that I do. I really really do love this app for listening to podcasts. I listen to a lot of podcasts, I am subscribed to 97 of them at the moment, so trust me when I say I have used this app a lot in the last three months. The customization features are great. I love all the ways you can organize your podcasts and create playlists all while being such a simple, straightforward, and user friendly app. There’s a lot of different ways to organize everything for you to play around with to make it suit your listening needs. I really don’t understand why a company with as much money as apple couldn’t figure out how to make this app. It’s fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s awesome. Do yourself a favor and use this app. I like it so much and have tested it for long enough that I’m actually going to purchase the Pocket Casts Plus enhanced features even though I’m probably not going to use them (trust me, the free version is amazing). I want to purchase it though because I want them to be able to keep making this app and I am willing to pay $1/month for it, especially with how much I use it. P.S. bonus, the stuff they write in their app update notes are amusing. Which is nice.

Best podcast app by far. I don’t normally take the time to write reviews, but I like this app so much I decided to write one. About a year ago I started looking for a new podcast app because I had kindov outgrown the stock Apple podcast app. I have tried about 5 other apps that I didn’t really like and just went back to Apple podcast. But after about a week of using pocket cast I deleted Apple podcast. My favorite part about it is the queue. You can add podcast to either the top or bottom of your queue, you can look at the podcast in your queue, and you can reorder them. It doesn’t auto play the next podcast if you don’t have it in your queue if you don’t want it to. I have found a few new podcast that I like through the discover tab. Also, the interface is very easy to use and aesthetically pleasing. Some of the other features that I didn’t realize I was missing in my life are: trim silence, volume boost (makes voices louder), changing playback speed in .1x intervals, and being able to have custom settings for each podcast. I also just noticed that it had a sleep timer that you can set to different times or the end of an episode. You can archive episodes and they don’t show up anymore (for example if you start listening to a daily news podcast you can archive all the previous episodes). Oh, and I almost forgot. You can change the app logo to be pocket cats! If your a serious podcast listener, you need this app.

Good but needs to be better. I’ve been using Pocket Casts for a few years back when Apple Podcasts changed its interface. Pocket Casts has a great interface and it’s easy to navigate/find new podcasts. What bums me about and is going to make me elsewhere is the constant audio jumping and cutting during an ep. The podcast could be going along fine but then all of a sudden it jumps ahead and if you try to go back you realize the content isn’t there. Or ending abruptly or randomly repeating. I’ve put up with this for awhile but lately it’s been happening in almost any podcast episode I listen to. I switch over to Apple Podcasts to be sure the missing or jumping content is not the podcast itself and it never is. Not sure why this happens! Hope there’s a fix being developed but for now I’ll have to use another app to listen to podcasts.

Request: Click on podcast image to go to podcast. I really like this app. The one thing that annoys me is there is no easy way to get directly to the feed for an individual podcast to switch to a new episode from the same podcast you are listening to. I am constantly wanting to just click on the podcast logo/image while playing an episode to go to the main feed for that podcast. Annoyingly, when you do that it just enlarges the image. Adding this feature so when you are playing an episode you can easily get to the main feed for that podcast and switch to a new episode from that podcast would be awesome. Right now, you have to switch out of the currently playing view and go back to your main feed to find an episode, and open that, to find the link to the full list of episodes for an individual podcast, which is a lot of steps.

Best Podcasts app by FAR!!. I have been using Pocket Casts for years as my main podcast app. I constantly also explore the other top 3-5 podcast apps, but none of them are even close to Pocket Casts. Pocket Casts ability to easily manage a large number of podcasts, archive episodes you don’t want to listen to, inclusion of an actual listening queue, ability to sync subscriptions, queue and now playing location seamlessly across devices and platforms (iPhone, iPad, desktop App, web, etc.) is awesome. No other podcast app has these features implemented as broadly and cleanly as Pocket Casts. Only feature I wish it had is the ability to see first 3-4 lines of podcast episode description inside filter lists - this would be incredibly helpful for triaging large number of podcasts. Thanks Pocket Casts team - awesome app!!!

Better than Default Podcast App Especially on Apple Watch. I listen to 20+ podcasts and have used Pocket Casts for years. It is so much better than the default Apple Podcasts app at handling lots of podcasts and episodes. Now with the latest update that includes Apple Watch sync and cellular streaming without your iPhone nearby I can finally leave my iPhone behind while working out. Pocket Casts seamlessly remembers where I am mid-podcast when I switch from phone to watch. My Apple Watch had been in a drawer the last few months until today because the default Podcasts app is an organizational mess, rarely remembers playback position between devices, and has a really bad implementation of a queue. You have to pay for the Pocket Casts Plus tier but it’s well worth the $1 per month if you have an Apple Watch and listen to more than 1 or 2 podcasts regularly.

Pocket Casts, a great podcast app that needs a few minor adjustments. It is a very fun app with a lot of tools to have customization but where it is lacking. the sleep timer is a little faulty and will not mark the episode as finished even if you set the sleep timer to the end of the episode, it should automatically mark it as finished and have the next episode loaded up but not playing. I’m not sure if this can be adjusted but if they if the episodes could load in a bit faster that would be great, this is mostly a problem for Patreon feeds but I know that Patreon server is a little bit finicky when it comes to Pocket Casts mainly. Regular feeds also seem to be delayed by a few minutes as well.

Bad update, unprofessional response. I was glad to find Pocket Casts at first. It was a decent cross-platform app, with a couple weird quirks, but the best option for me. I opted into the beta and wasn’t as fond of it, but decided to give it some time for me to adjust and explore. Some basic, useful features were lacking or implemented strangely and the UI change was a huge step back, considerably less intuitive. Unfortunately, they didn’t really improve on any of these problems for the release despite feedback from users. I know it’s impossible to give every user what they want. Plus, so many users are too entitled and demanding. That doesn’t warrant not listening to them at all, or responding flippantly and condescendingly to feedback. Many of the developer responses have been deleted because it “doesn’t represent who they are” (except ... yes it does, because that’s literally how they’re representing themselves). I’m not surprised to see the drop in their ratings, which they reset recently in hopes of erasing the negative ones, I guess? They already have the money of existing users, so maybe they don’t feel like it’s as important to respect them. But I know I will no longer be recommending Pocket Casts to anyone else. Fortunately, there are cross-platform alternatives I look forward to checking out instead, like Castbox.

Needs this feature. Please, please, add a way to make play lists out of SINGLE episodes from different podcasts! I will happily pay for this very basic feature that no podcast apps seem to have thought of. So, for example if i want to learn all about, say, the history of scaffolding, or the 1830s east africa, or the science behind algae, OR whatever, i can just make a playlist from 9 different pods with the one episdoe from each on the subject that i want and call the playlist, "algae". Also, when searching for a term: a way to hide half the results coming from one podcast- "the Daily" (or whatever) and a way to search by date- i.e. i don't get episodes from 2017 when i search for "middle east" unless I want to see older stuff. Seriously, fix this one (or two) thing(s) and i will change to 5 stars and be your most ardent supporter :)

Doing your best. I have been using the app for a while, and I too was displeased to find that I wasn’t grandfathered in to all the subscription benefits. Then I realized that for the multi-platform experience, fresh UI, and general reliability, I’m okay with paying ten bucks a year. This app still isn’t perfect, and the new subscription model does feel like a betrayal of the devs’ past, but that’s just how business works. In the mean time, I’d love to see better support for iOS 13’s automatic dark mode. That why I won’t have to manually switch the theme in-app to dark. In short, I know these folks are doing their best to appeal to a massive consumer base, and I hope to see a little more leniency and less hostility over something as trivial-in-the-grand-scheme as a podcast app.

Pocket Casts just works. Use this app for your podcasts! Endlessly customizable, simple, sleek, straightforward. It is made for the avid podcast listener. Customize your listening volumes, playback speeds, artwork, etc, by individual podcast. Extremely powerful filters if you like to organize. The main thing is the queue. I get to organize what I will listen to, in what order, and it just works. The auto-download feature is a given, but it works so easily. If you’re a big podcast listener this app is for you, ignore the rating here on iTunes. The newer updates in the recent year or have made this app the best one to switch to to get out of the clunky native apps or other apps that focus more on music than podcast listening.

Absolutely STUNNING Podcast App!. I've been using PocketCasts since 2013 and am continually AMAZED at how well-designed and useful this app is for managing and thoroughly Enjoying the podcast experience. It is truly one of the great mobile apps, and shows just how powerful good user-centered design and engineering can be. Podcasts have become a totally essential category of media for knowledge and entertainment, but being able to manage and utilize them well is absolutely critical to getting their full benefit, so having the right app makes a HUGE difference. And after trying many others, I can say hands-down that PocketCasts is THE right app!! It's night and day better and will take your podcast listening to a whole new level.

My Podcast Home. I never liked Apple’s Podcasts app but I tried other apps, even gave some a second chance, but always had to come back to Apple’s for some of their features. After trying Pocket Casts for over a year now, I am so so happy I’ve found a podcast app that I love. Appreciate how customizable the skip and go back times are, the look and ease-of-use of the podcast list, where episode notes appear, managing episode queuing, it’s all great. After reading some other reviews, I gotta say the features behind the paywall are NOT a problem to me. If I ever needed the cloud storage or Watch version, I’d pay the small yearly subscription to devs who keep working on an app I’m really happy to have. It’d be nice to switch filters more easily (like one tap to go from filtering new releases to filtering downloads), but that’s the tiniest wish. Happily using this app every day!

Differences from 6.x to 7.3. It’s now a better tool for episode cherry-pickers. The ability to sort by Downloaded status brings the 5 you’ve pulled down from a list of 500 to the fore. It’s strange that you cannot now, by default, tell a downloaded episode from an undownloaded one, but there’s a setting to fix that. I also appreciate the new option to delay the deletion of a completed episode for 24 hours. Combined with a new End Of Episode setting for the sleep timer, this removes the stress of falling asleep to an episode you might run off the end of. For my uses, the only downside, and a minor one at that, is reduced information density in the episode list. You can’t see as many on a screen anymore, and the new, omnipresent Search field (rarely useful) takes up additional vertical space, making a very small knothole indeed when combined with the miniplayer and bottom toolbar. I’d suggest making Search show only when pulling from the very top of the list, as is a convention in many other apps, or just let me scroll it off the page as the episode list scrolls.

I’m sad that I have to switch to another app. I’ve been using that app for well over two years. Since then, it’s been my go to for podcasts because it has a great interface and is easy to use. However, I don’t know why but I’ve been having so many problems with it lately. The main one is that podcasts won’t load. I don’t always have space on my phone to download my podcasts since I take a lot of photos and video on a day to day basis, meaning I stream a lot of my content. For some reason, I always have problems with podcasts from this app recently. It’ll load a couple of seconds, then it will refuse to play anything for a while, then all of a sudden it’ll start working again. It’s not like I’m losing internet connection, as it will even happen on WiFi. Sometimes it’ll even do it with downloaded podcasts. Then I have even more problems with CarPlay. If I plug my phone in to use pocket casts, sometimes it’ll just completely freeze everything on my phone until I unplug and restart my phone. It’s only with this app. That all being said, I still enjoyed my time with this app and I loved its simplicity, which is why I’m sad to see it go now that I’m switching to another app that doesn’t give me these problems. I’ll come back eventually if these bugs get fixed. Till then, so long my friend.

Syncing is still really bad if you listen on two devices.. There are many good things about PocketCast (Video Support, Playback Effects, background downloading, notifications, etc.). But there are three things that bother me. 1) If you listen on an iPad and and iPhone regularly your syncing will be messed up all the time. For instance, open iPad app and watch a video show. Then open on your phone later an audio show and stop. Perhaps that evening you open your iPad again to resume the video you were watching that morning. It will sync the iPad back to your iPhone the play position of your audio podcast from that morning, not where you left off on your iPhone later in the day. I’m constantly opening Pocket Casts on my phone to find that my listening position was reverted back 20-30 minutes earlier than I left off. 2) I think the playback screen has an unnecessary bar at the bottom with the tools. Remove that bar and just put the icons for playback effects and others without it. 3) The cover art for the podcast is not centered properly on the iPhone X, XS, and XS Max iPhone. That’s just poor design. Please Russell and Co. fix these problems.

Plays podcasts and a little more. Okay podcast app. Dislike apps that go from premium to free and offer nothing to people that paid for the app initially…anyway, may not matter as the app is low on features that actually work! Do you have a podcast that changes cover art? You’ll always see the first cover on those podcasts. No idea why this app can’t change covers but I can assure you, it won’t. Do you have a podcast that has fun little teaser clips from the episode that are released as promotions or Alexa Briefs? Well, you’ll have to listen to them or manually delete them because this app has no way to prevent these from being downloaded. The only redeeming quality of this app is you can load mp3 and listen through the app. Only needed since Apple jacked the directory with 14.5 and podcasts with a lot of old episodes only show recent shows now.

Solid podcast player. Pocket Casts was one of the best podcast apps out there for many years. It still functions very well for power users as well as less frequent listeners. PC is among the best podcast catchers because it offers several logical organizational structures for staying on top of subscriptions. The first being the Home view with a grid of show art—this can be sorted by release date, or custom set by users. Tapping a show icon brings you to the episode list. Further, this screen can be organized by sorting podcasts into folders as the user sees fit. There are additionally filter views, in which users can view new releases by episode, view downloaded or partially listened to episodes, and filters can be added to include various shows by whatever topic or criteria users wish to help them dive into episodes (filters are especially useful to power users who may subscribe to hundreds of podcasts). The subscriptions for this app are pricy, but the free version accomplishes most of what’s needed for a podcast player.

Great App. This app by far has the best interface of any podcast app. The layout just makes sense. I’m a podcast junkie and have been listening to them for the past 6 years. I have been using Pocketcast since my first experience trying to navigate the confusing Apple Podcast app. This app offers easier interfaces and organizing features. I know that there was some problems with the transition to subscriptions, and those difficulties have added to the negative reviews. Honestly, a app this polished with these excellent features should cost a little money to unlock additional features. For me, this is THE podcast app. Excellent layout, excellent customization, great app! I've been using it for years and I hope to always use it in the future.

Love me some Pocket Casts. I’ve used a LOT of podcast players over the years. Although I knew of Pocket Casts, it was one that I never tried until almost a year ago when I felt the need to go on the hunt again. I won’t recap all the features as you can read that for yourself. Things that I like a lot and HOW they are done are: - Easy to navigate interface (intuitive) - Per podcast settings (global, too) - Playback speeds from 0.5x to 3x in 0.1x increments (this is really nice as they can be per podcast and allow you to tweak the speed without causing the material to sound odd!) - UI elements that are large enough to see at a glance (and interact with) - Uncluttered UI - Filters (ease of creation and modifying on the fly) - Folders for subscriptions Of course, it’s not that any of these features are unique to Pocket Casts - I just like the way they’re done. I also like that they have desktop applications and most importantly, the sync across all my devices is insanely fast. I can be in the middle of a podcast on my phone, pause it and open the desktop app and in less than 2 seconds, the podcast shows up as now playing queued exactly to the spot that I was at on my phone. Finally, the app has been really stable for me across all my devices and it’s great to see that development continues when so many other players seem abandoned. Keep up the great work!

usually great, often flawed. like another reviewer, StarlaThornhill, for like two years i've been experiencing the issue with the playback timer. it seems to mostly happen when i'm using airplay2 to listen to podcasts on my home speakers... if i pause playback and then later resume, somehow the playback position timer loses its mind, and it just causes havoc. i've contacted support several times, and it always winds up going nowhere. this is very frustrating, because i feel the app has the most user-friendly interface of any of the major podcast apps on the market. most of them have some weird UI gimmick to try and stand out, but it really just winds up feeling clunky and dumbed-down. i hope the pocket casts team can figure out the playback progress bugs, because i'm really running out of patience with what's otherwise a pretty perfect app.

The Best Podcast App! (from a jilted Apple Podcasts user). I had always used Apple Podcasts, but recently they changed the format and I hated it so much I had to switch. The thing I love most about Pocket Cast is how easy it is to sort out episodes, and in multiple ways. There’s a couple of podcasts I listen to where I’m still far back in the catalog, and through this app’s “downloaded” and “starred” filters, it’s easier for me to sort those episodes from the new streams (unlike the new Apple Podcasts, which is outright frustrating). I tested out the features on 4 of the other big podcast apps, and simply put, none of them let you customize your preferences as much as Pocket Casts. *Also, it doesn’t have annoying in-app ads like some of the others ones, AND includes the “Chapters” feature.* The app even gives you options for the color of the icon on your Home Screen (which I loved, because I wasn’t a fan of the default red icon). Love this app!

AVOID! Bought app before subscription, +30GB DATA ABUSE!. 30GB of data... Not the first time it has happened, and it’s absolutely ridiculous. Especially since I originally paid for the app before they decided to change to a subscription service, and receive none of the features I paid for. I have turned off every “Download” or “files” feature, so it is not user error. I uncheck the “In progress” and “played” options in storage and data usage as well, only to see them turned back on immediately after exiting. If this is a bug it is a hell of an costly one on my end. After getting ripped off after buying the app already on multiple devices that was then switched to a subscription service, it’s nice to add the 30+GB of monthly data on top of that. I just hope that the same hasn’t happened to the people I recommended this app too not long ago. As for now, just another company totally fine with ripping paying customers off with a blatant money grab! DO NOT DOWNLOAD!

With respect, don’t force Pride month on me. I’ve used Pocket Cast for years. Probably since around 2016 or so. Today I updated the app and noticed that they changed the icon to rainbow colors to celebrate pride month. I have homosexual family and friends in my life whom I could not love more, but as I’ve explained to them in many charitable and mutually respectful discussions over the years, I do not like pride month being forced down my throat. FWIW I’m Catholic and do not expect there to be a “Catholic month” pushed down others throats, either. It would be so wonderful if businesses, sports teams, etc could just focus on what they do best and let their customers decide if, when, and how they’d like to celebrate a particular “festivity”. I noticed that Pocket Casts did not change their icon to celebrate Black History month, St. Patrick’s Day, or Christmas, so I can only deduct that this is just more woke garbage being forced down my throat. The good news is that there are dozens of excellent podcast app alternatives available, which I plan to explore once I conclude this review and delete Pocket Casts from my phone. So long and thank you for the memories.

Features Are Great, But Won’t Stop Crashing. I got this app because I wanted the automatic downloading and queuing features, and I’ve found those incredibly valuable. I can have my favorite podcasts automatically play next as soon as episodes are available and maintain a queue more easily than I can in the Apple Podcasts app. Also, the more flexible playback rates and Trim Silence features are fantastic. I would give this app 5 stars if it didn’t randomly crash all the time. It was whenever the most recent significant aesthetic update happened (the old version worked well), but now it will crash while I’m listening to a podcast and have my phone in my pocket or connected to my car. I literally do nothing to provoke it. The interface also freezes sometimes and forces me to quit it and restart, which is frustrating since the mechanics of playing back from an RSS feed don’t seem to be the most complicated part of this app.

Apple Podcasts convert. I’m in love.. After the Apple Podcasts app deteriorated to the point where it couldn’t even maintain my Up Next playlist, I gave up on it and switched to Pocket Casts. What a breath of fresh air! This app is so good that I’m listening to more podcasts than ever just so I can continue exploring the very good UI and all of the features it offers. Highly customizable (filters, controls, skip durations), adding external podcasts via url, sync your content between devices, export/import to other podcast apps… and that’s not even touching the way more fluid and intuitive user interface when compared to what I used prior. This is a fantastic app, please keep looking for new ways to polish and maintain this quality bar!

So much good but one fatal flaw. I like so much about this app, and if you subscribe to a small number of pods you might enjoy it. But I subscribe to a lot. And there is no way to group them- if you subscribe to 100 podcasts they are just all listed on one big page. Now, there are filters but they are for episodes. So you can say, give me all I played episodes, or all episodes longer than an hour, and it mixes them all into a playlist. But if you just want to group your news shows, your fiction stories, your true crime, etc- no way to do that. I quit using this app after the fastest way for me to find the show I was looking for became too try and subscribe to it again and that would jump me to the page to play the next episode. And this isn’t a flaw- they want people to use filters and not folders. I don’t know why, and this is a long-standing complaint. I’ll occasionally check back to see if anything changed, but until then it’s just become unusable for me.

Love Pocket Casts. Something I’d find handy for future updates is a permanent mark against an podcast episode when you’ve listened to it. So if you go back through a podcast episode list and you can’t remember if you’ve listened to that episode or not, some kind of mark to show if you have or haven’t would be so handy. Does this exist already and I’m missing it?

Best podcast app available. I listen to far too many podcasts for the stock app to handle well, but pocket casts manages everything I could possibly want it to do and more. Excellent customisation of display in the app and playback. Also one of the best supported apps I have seen

Great podcast app...but. The app is great to navigate and I love some of the features such as skipping first few minutes etc and making it go faster. The search option needs to be improved so that it includes searches in the notes not just the titles in the podcast. That way we can pick up more interesting or relevant podcasts

Best podcast app I’ve found. I’ve been using pocket casts for 9-10 months now, almost daily, and I’ve zero regrets about my choice. It’s simple to organise my subscribed shows, set up filters, control downloads, all the things I need to keep track of hundreds of episodes. Two things I particularly appreciate: the very intelligent little rewind after I’ve paused an episode, which takes account of how LONG the pause was, and the searching functionality within episodes of a show which works brilliantly. The only thing that would make it even better for me is the ability to see the total time of unlistened episodes (for a show or a filter), but that’s a minor point. In general it’s a very clean and effective app and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Where is my queue?. I generally love PocketCasts, but made the mistake of signing in - my queue of 90 podcasts, mostly ordered and ready to run was deleted and replaced with a bizarre list of old news podcasts - I’m not happy! I want my own queue back. Unfortunately signing out does not fix it.

Small but annoying bugs ruin excellent app. Often the screen displaying the subscribed podcasts is blank and there is no way of refreshing it without restarting the app. Similarly when manually refreshing the new releases filter it often freezes and if you hit the back arrow while on filter your U are stuck on a page to create your own filter with no way of getting back. It's annoying little things like these that drop this otherwise excellent app from 5 to 4 stars.

Search improvements please!. Best podcast app around imo, just that searching for a podcast can sometimes be a real pain. I often have to import a podcast via soundcloud or apple podcasts to get what i’m after. Love the app otherwise and always recommend it!

A great app 🙌🏼. Tried a few and just love Pocketcast! Also I love reading the release notes! Humorous and informative about all the great things being updated and included in each release.

Crashing more often. My experience from using pocket casts for years is it’s become less reliable over the last year. The player freezes, the app crashes, podcasts go back to a previous position. It’s a shame because the design is good, but I’m finding using the app increasingly frustrating. Also, the Apple Watch app doesn’t work at all and has been buggy for ages.

Nice. Very smooth and intuitive interface. Would love to see “Total archived hours” in stats, as i transferred from the apple podcast app, archived what i’d already played, and would like to know my total listened hours.

Re-review. Apparently my old 1-star review from before it went free was deleted so quickly. It functions mostly fine, but, there are a bunch of bugs that are infuriating. It also takes forever to add new episodes when they release on subscribed podcasts. To name a few bugs, it constantly tells me the wrong progress through an episode, I might be 20 minutes into a podcast but it tells me I’m over an hour in. Sometimes when I skip back 10 seconds to rewind, I am instead skipped forwards multiple minutes and have to scroll back. It constantly removes episodes from my up next queue so I have to re-ad them.

Best podcast app around.. Not only is this the best podcast app around, it’s made by a fellow Aussie. What isn’t to love? Massive strides and updates in the last year or so and the only thing that makes podcasts any better is listening to them through such a great app.

Outstanding Podcast App - I’ve used all the big ones. Outstanding podcast app that is easy to use - important for when you are on the go, always updated, and visual in just the right ways. Also, release notes don’t just say “various updates and bug fixes” which I personally really appreciate!

Please Add More Ways to Listen to Single Episodes. One of my favourite things is just searching a science topic, movie, TV show, celebrity and finding just an episode of random podcasts to listen to with that. This app has no way to search for general podcast episodes like Apple Podcasts does unless you know the podcast you want to search in. I find myself using Apple podcasts to search then find it on Pocket Casts. Please fix this. Also be able to add individual episodes to a playlist or folder. To create topics for my listening. Apart from that its a great app. Thank you for a better podcast experience.

Great app but needs some tweaking. Hi guys; love using the app but can’t seem to even open the help and feedback section - just get a loading screen which then eventually freezes. My main reason for contact is that your search function within the app doesn’t seem to work; so within an episode / series if you want to search for a particular episode name, type in what you like; but nothing comes up - I have done this even when the episode is listed a few below just to test; and it doesn’t isolate the name or bring that episode up at all, - just shows ‘no results’ Hope these issues will be fixed in the next update? Cheers

Love the latest update!. Finally finally finally I can leave my phone at home when I go for a run!! Pocketcasts has been a long standing favourite podcast app of mine, and this one feature has bumped it up from 4 to 5 stars for me. Yes, I’m only a few days into the update but so far have found that it works great!

Best podcasting app. The Pocket Casts interface is beautiful, and the most user-friendly podcasting app in the market. Plus I love having all my podcasts synced across all devices, including the desktop version 😍

Search results could be better. Great app, easily my fav among all the free options. Only gripe is that the global search results are a bit lacking. Search terms have to be very specific sometimes. Would be great to search in categories eg episodes only, shows only etc.

Just the ‘casts, ma’am. I’ve tried other players after using pocket casts for years. I’m back now, because I’ve been defeated. Pocket casts has the right mix of features and simplicity to let me listen to podcasts how I want. Keep it good.

One step forward, two back. Rearranging up next has become super buggy and slow. What tf was wrong with it before? Why change it? Pressing the rearrange hamburger now doesn’t register half the time, haptic feedback seems messed, and when it does work, there’s some horrible glitchy animation to a tiny icon behind your thumb and you can’t see what’s being dragged around! I sure hope that wasn’t an intentional change.

Frustrating experience. Some good features but the simple stuff fails me time and time again. For example some podcasts can take over a minute to stay playing. Others play immediately. Also when I stop a podcast and come back later the podcast won’t play. It seems stuck. The play/pause button remains in a play state and fails to respond to touch. I get haptic feedback but nothing else. Force quit is the only way to remove. Please get the simple stuff to work.

Getting on top of the new version.. When Casts got a total makeover it deleted some of the features that made it so good. At last they have brought back deleting back episodes after a specific number. I listen to a lot of new/current affairs podcasts with daily episodes and if you don’t listen to every one you needed to manually delete outdated episode. God forbid missing a couple of days of listening as you get RSI. . Now Casts can do this for you again after reinstating the episode count feature. I would say 4.5 stars but as I have used this app for so long and it’s getting back to being 100% useful again I will go the extra ½ a star.

Great for phone- Terrible for car play. I love this app when using on my phone. Using with apple car play is another story. The app continually crashes making listening in the car impossible. I’d be about to work around this if I didn’t listen in the car 50% of the time.

My fav podcast app. I’ve tried all the podcast apps, but settled on Pocket Casts as my favourite. I like the way it organises podcasts, it’s Multiplatform, has an excellent Apple Watch app, and supports all the features I would hope for or expect. On that note though, the Skip Silence feature is not as polished as other apps (it can be choppy at times) and/or a sensitivity step between Medium and Mad Max (Medium rarely does anything, Mad Max is *super* choppy & obvious). I wish there were half stars on App Store, 4.5/5

Intuitive format. I have been using this app for years - has to be at least 5-6, and although I have tried many others, this is, for me, the most intuitive. I really wanted to try to use the native iPhone one because apparently it users less memory/battery blah blah, but honestly, I have to wonder how people use that - it’s so frustrating ! I was prompted to write this review now as recently I discovered if you download PC (and log in to your account) to multiple devices it’s syncs exactly where you are up to - great feature! I still use my beloved old iPod to listen to podcasts because I actively try to not be a 24hr slave to my phone but I love listening to podcasts 24rs! However, being able to listen on my phone (car play) is handy at times. I love that I can now sync exactly where I was up to! Also, another feature I love and always have used is the ability to categorise themes: true crime/kids/history/news/ etc etc.

Easily the best. I've tried them all, this is the one 😎 Any negative reviews are because of the last major redesign. People hate change. I was annoyed when it happened too, but it's definitely an improvement once you learn how it works.

Why?. Why do some podcast take forever to download ( if at all) yet others download almost in an instant. Despite being the same size????? I love the app but am thinking of finding another. This is getting frustrating.

Affected by iOS Bug. App is currently affected by iOS bug. Restart your device if/when this is affecting you, too. Originally I gave 1 star and the following poor review, but I got very prompt feedback from the team and understand the issue is not entirely Pocket Casts’ fault. Original Review: I’ve been using pocket casts since my iPhone 3GS in early 2010s. Hate to say it, but its a worse experience now than it was back then. Somehow doesn’t report play state to iOS properly, so the play controls don’t show on the Lock Screen and I can’t pause/play using headset controls. Crashes. Uses tonnes of battery.

So impressed with this app!. I’ve been using PocketCasts for 7 years and still love it. New features are always being added such as being able to auto skip the last mm:ss of Podcasts. I’ve set it up so that everything happens automatically like fave podcasts being auto downloaded, news shows going to the top of the list, etc. Just a wonderful app by clearly engaged developers

Rapidly declining in quality and functionality. This used to be the best podcatcher around, and I’ve recommended it to a number of people, but over the last few months there have been persistent glitches. 1. The app freezes but the audio continues to play. It’s an issue that you don’t notice until you need to pause or skip backwards, at which point you realise that it’s frozen halfway through the last episode you were listening to, and when you restart the app you have to figure out where you were up to in the episode you were listening to. 2. Stuttering audio sometimes occurs even with no other apps open. 3. App crashes frequently enough to be annoying. I don’t know if this is an issue of the app becoming free and getting increased traffic, I am not a developer. But it’s becoming increasingly irritating and I may need to search for something new, which would be extremely aggravating.

The only app I use. I have tried every podcast app available and this by far is my favourite. I love that I can order my podcasts however I want and has all the features I need. The app also makes it super easy to listen to personal RSS feeds. Love it! Would love to see more customisable options + themes!

Fantastic podcast app. Cross device sync works great. Interface is appropriately minimal where needed, but had plenty of the features that you need for podcasts.

so far so good. This is a fantastic app for following my favourite streamers and podcasters it plays videos perfectly so I can jump from one listening to watching without any crashes.

Needs offline and streaming support for Watch.. I kept using this app even after the redesign ruined the UX and introduced a lot of bugs, because I had paid the one off cost for ‘lifetime’ access to the desktop app. Then one day, that’s no longer ‘lifetime’ access but only 3 years access as part of ‘PocketCasts Plus’. After telling everyone to deal with it they finally caved in and gave people the lifetime access they had already paid for. Pocketcasts needs to support Apple Watch offline playback and streaming before I'm coming back to it.

Awesome. Great app. Super fast (for my iPhone 6) and works great. Just one thing - could you do a search feature where you could search episode names, and maybe a feature where you could search podcast episodes from the episodes page. Thanks 😎

One of the best free podcast apps. My criteria was variable speed control on free podcast apps, and pocket casts has the best free version - adjustable in 0.1x increments and even has silence cutter for free as well. (The stats showing you how much time you’ve saved is a nice touch too). As for the rest of the app: Can’t fault the interface, easy to use. Also love how you can set custom settings for different podcasts for free! (Playback speed, specific intervals for rewind / forward buttons), set start/end times to skip intro/outro). Highly recommended if you listen to podcasts that require a variety of speeds for comfortable, processing listening.

Best podcast app available. Only minor grievance is i find i tricky to create filters/custom lists and adding podcasts. Otherwise, UI is great, easy to find and download all my favourite pods. Have used app for a few years now and wouldn’t change to any other.

Going to a different ap because of gambling and alcohol ads. When I first started using this app it was great. But more and more ads with a lot of gambling and alcohol ads plus these new incredibly annoying short ads that just drop in the middle of a podcast often in the middle of a sentence with no warning and completely break up a conversation. Nope. I’m done.

Best podcast app for iPhone. Yes, really.. I listen to a lot of podcasts. I had to find an alternative to the baffling & annoying built-in iPhone podcast app so I systematically tried about half a dozen in the App Store. This one has stood the test of time. Like it ‘says on the packet’, built by listeners for listeners (or something like that). A strong recommendation.

Good but a few issues. Nothing adds to up next when I click ‘play all from here’ on a podcast I’ve already binged and want to listen to again. This is annoying because I re listen to the same podcasts and let them play all night but now have to re choose a new episode every time one finishes.

Seriously.....what has happened to this app?. Prior to the recent update it was brilliant. It was so easy to use. Unfortunately, the latest update has screwed it completely. The new "archiving" feature is a mess and it is difficult to tell what podcasts are downloaded or not. I can't seem to have episodes deleted the way I once could. You now have them delete (or archive??) up to a week after you play them. Navigating around the app is confusing and no longer intuitive. It's like the podcast version of Windows 8! You seem to be tapping and swiping all over the place in a non-logical order to get it to do what you want. Syncing is not right either. Often find a podcast has re-synced back to where it was on another device rather than have the other device catch up to the new position where you are up to. Why couldn't you have left it alone....it was brilliant? Now it's a mess.

Beautiful functionality. I’m fairly particular about my podcast experience, and have tried all the major podcast apps. But I came back to Pocket Casts because of its beautiful and intuitive design language. A podcast app is a very subjective decision but I really like Pocket Casts.

Great, easy to use app. I find this app so easy to use. New to the ‘podcast’ world, so this app has made my foray into this genre a breeze! Throughly recommend it & support service has also been excellent.

Great Interface and Customer Service. I can get podcasts in other apps, but PocketCasts the most user-friendly. Love the variable speed, the notifications and the queuing of podcasts. It’s all easy and intuitive. Recently I had an issue with podcasts from ABC Australia not downloading. The team were patient, polite and helpful as the problem was solved.

Great podcast app!. This app has been getting better and better with each update. Great work and keep it up ! And BTW love the app notes at each update. The time taken to write these notes gives me a great chuckle and shows the developers have a great sense of humour as well :)

One of the best. One of the best Podcast apps available no question, to be honest flip flop between Overcast and Pocket Casts. What brings me back to Pocket Casts is the better overall navigation and how it handles podcast states with more granularity. But for a few minor UX gripes, it’s fantastic.

Best Poscast App EVER!. I've been using this app for 5+ years now and it is hands down the BEST podcast app ever. The developer has the best app update notes and the app is updated regularly with cooler and cooler features that I didn't even know I needed!

Incredible. Pocket Cast is a incredible app, it's packed with features and customisation. Stats Trackers, access every podcast I want, webplayer and so many more. I've used several podcast apps and this is easily the best and levels above the rest. I would 100% recommend it you won't be disappointed.

Great for listening to podcasts exactly how you want. Pocketcasts is always the app I recommend for podcasts because it is so full featured and customisable, so as to offer any user what they need. A standout for me is the syncing between apps and the web client. Unfortunately the quality of syncing has dropped dramatically in recent months to the point that it’s no longer useful. Hopefully this is fixed in the future.

Worse with every update. This was my go to podcast app for years. The last 1 year of updates has slowly broken the app. It now does not function whatsoever with CarPlay, often crashing, not starting podcasts when clicked, not able to show any lists of podcasts and failing constantly to load. As a former paying customer, it’s also insulting they went to an in app purchase model, effectively taking the money I spent on the app and providing nothing in return. App is deleted for now.

Great!. Pocket Casts let’s you choose what you want to listen to without trying to “help” you choose. You can actually make a playlist and find it. This may sound silly but that has not been my experience with other apps I’ve tried. I wish the team working on Pocket Casts well.

Still the best. Lots of haters around here talking about the redesign. At first the changes were a bit jarring but after a couple of updates things are getting back to what we expected. Keep up the good work!

Abysmal Changes. Like many others this was the greatest app available until the changes.

Please add bookmark and note support. Fantastic app, but please add the ability to bookmark parts of a podcast and add notes to a particular podcast episode with timestamp. Then, you would be able to see all notes taken on a particular podcast episode.

7.28 puzzle…. "Never gonna give you up" I will never ! Why ? Because this is the best podcast manager out there !!!

Very good. I was using google podcasts and Castro until I found this.

This app used to be so good, what happened?. I’ve been using it for years, but in the past few months I’ve noticed bugs like episodes appearing to be longer than they are. For example: a podcast that’s 30min long would show as 1h and it would play til the middle of the file and then crash the app. Other minor bugs like not updating metadata if it gets changed after the first time it was downloaded, etc. feels like the whole testing team went on vacations at the same time… Please fix those. I don’t really want to change apps 😅

The Best!!!. I’ve used them all, I keep comeback to Pocket Casts.

Amazing. Such a well designed app. Simple to use, but has the features podcast power users need! Best looking podcast app out there!

Bad logo choice.. I am deleting the app because of the new logo. No thank you!

Disappointing Price Increase. Can’t believe this app went from $18.99 annually here in Canada to $44.99!! This went from an easy sub renewal every year to pushing me to Castro. Shame because I’ve been a subscriber since 2017 and this is the best all-around podcast app. But this is a crazy price hike. If Castro and Overcast eventually go to this price then I’ll be back. Until then, I’ll save 60% of my money for a 10% worse experience on Castro.

Love this but…. I switched from Apple Podcasts several months ago b/c it was suddenly messing with my podcasts. I love this app and especially the ability to sort into filters. Not sure if I’ll try the new Folders yet. I have only one complaint and hence 4 instead of 5 stars and that is the search feature. It seems to only search podcast names when I search a topic or name whereas Apple results gave podcast names and episodes. So I still have to go to Apple first to search and then go back this app, find the podcast, and scroll through all the episodes to find what Apple brought up right away. Hoping the developers can rectify….

Icon. Why are jamming your icon down people’s throats?

Amazing. Very nice improvement on design, thank you! P.S. Also very good support!

Could have Been 5 stars, but…. So, I just moved my podcast listening to this app and I love it. I would have given it 5 stars, but there’s one significant problem. The app on the Apple Watch doesn’t work when the watch isn’t connected to the iPhone. All it does is control the playback on the iPhone.

Pricey. Was happy to pay 10-15$ per year for cross platform syncing and stuff. New pricing of 50$ per year is way too much for podcast and I am leaving. Experience with app was otherwise great.

Starting to Slip. I was a dedicated PocketCasts fan for about a decade. Unfortunately now it’s giving me issues with custom a Patreon feed and it’s missing some functionality that I would like to have. It’s still good just not necessarily the best like it used to be.

Listening progress does not save. Really like the podcast app but recently there's been a bug that does not save your listening progress during an episode. So when you listen to the episode, three progress goes back to where you started before listening rather to where you left off.

Like. I really like this app, and have been using it for quite some time. Would really love to see an update on the search results. Sometimes I find myself flipping back to Apple’s podcast app if I’m looking for a podcast on a certain topic. Another example is typing in a podcast title, then had to go back to add the apostrophe for it to show up on the results.

Super interface.

Apple watch streaming not good. Don’t waste money paying for the app if it is just for Apple Watch use. Half the time I use it on my watch the app won’t refresh and ends up ruining a workout as I have to stop what I am doing to get things to work. Won’t refresh over wifi and generally a let down. The app is good on the iPhone but a waste on Apple Watch

A constant upgrade to premium loop. Open the podcast in anything but this app. I was listening to a podcast on a browser and I wanted to control the replay. This ‘app’ was suggested. So I down load it. Now I am downloading the podcast on apple I was definitely in the app, i had to search in the app for the podcast. The podcast would not play until i decided on sending money. I watched it on apple podcasts.

Filter problems. Like this app overall but I have problems with the filters. I want a filter containing new episodes of podcasts of my choosing. Simple enough right? But even though I’ve checked off certain podcasts for this, only episodes from some of the selected podcasts show up in the filter. Is this a bug?

Missing basic feature like landscape. The app doesn’t support landscape mode for moments like when docked in the car. It also doesn’t let you remove individual podcasts from a filter

Switched away because of the redesign. I see I’m in good company in my displeasure with the new design. It’s so frustrating because the old app was my go to for years.

What happened. Been using this app for a year, really enjoyed the features for a free account. Since last update, all the accounts I follow are automatically downloading, even tho I have them set NOT to download. No way to contact support on the app 🤯

Usability nightmare... for no good reason. I’ve used pocket casts for years as a paying customer, and loved it — until the redesign. Now the most simple things, like marking an episode as “played”, require confusing gestures and interactions. I’ve counted at least three distinct ways to mark something as “played”, all available in different contexts. Swipe this way, no, that way, oh wait, no, it’s the other way. It’s a complete nightmare. Interacting with this app is now like trying to find your way through a maze in complete darkness. If that wasn’t bad enough it also freezes, crashes, and syncing is often unreliable. The previous version was fantastic — it was my favourite app. Now I despise it. I’m furious at the developers for ruining something that was so great. Such a disappointment.

Still the best. I've used this app for at least eight years. It's still the best for podcasts I've encountered. I've also in the past submitted a suggestion for a feature I would find really useful. A really nice member of their team responded and said they'd look into it. In one of their updates that feature was included. I have no idea if that stemmed from my suggestion or if it was just something they had in the pipeline, but in either case shows that they're committed to continuing to provide a great user experience.

Logo not good. Just focus on what you are doing and don’t get political.

Great app but having a search issue. I lovr the app and have been using it for a few weeks now. It was working well but today I was trying to find a specific podcast and the app would take a while and ended up saying that I wasn’t connected to the internet. I checked my connection and I was. I could play episodes I didn’t have downloaded with no issues. I switched from wifi and data and it would still say I wasn’t connected when searching for new podcasts. Hope this issue gets fixed soon.

Really Good. This is a really good podcast player. It would be perfect if auto-downloading could be set for newest 3 episodes and previously downloaded ones get undownloaded if not played.

Superfluous Logo Change. Apps should not change their logo for ideological reasons.

Best out there. This is by far the best podcast app out there, attentive developers and great update notes.

Paid for the app, then they changed to subscription. I paid for the app, then they made it free with a paid subscription. So I paid for nothing, and got no benefit.

The new icon is ugly. The old red icon was better. The new one looks like it was designed by a 4 years old. It's a mess.

Enough already. Pocket Cast has been my go-to podcast app for quite some time but have just removed the app from all devices. . So tired of all this Rainbow Mafia nonsense.

Pretty good. Lacks a robust sleep timer functionality. Should have option to shake to play again when sleep timer stops play before you’re asleep

Perfect, so much better than Apple Podcasts!. It just works. Lots of custom settings for auto downloads, number of podcast episodes to save before deleting, etc. This is the pod-catcher to use!

Easy to use, like the layout. Pocketcasts is easy to organize - very user friendly. I like the display options. It’s also easy to see what I’ve downloaded and archived. Also has good playback controls. It’s my go-to podcast source. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Doesn't remember progress. Everytime I open the app it's got the progress through my latest listen wrong. It's so consistently wrong I can't believe no one else seems to be reporting this.

Always liked PC. But preventing me from changing my icon, because PC decided to celebrate P month.. Not impressed.

Why?. Randomly changing the color of the app so It’s harder to find…..

Why force the icon?. Haven’t you learned anything from what’s been happening for the past couple months to certain brands?

Best podcast app. Easily the best podcast app IMO. Practical functionality. Option to skip 30 secs, something Spotify still hasn’t figured out. My only nit picky complaint is that while I have no problem supporting the developer, it’s kind of crummy you have to pay to get a desktop player. Google Podcast is close for me, but doesn’t charge to listen on my computer. I still keep coming back to Pocket Cast though.

What was so good ;-). This used to be my favourite podcasting app by a mile but since they changed the user UI it's not. I just can’t understand why they had to change this amazing & much loved podcatcher app. I understand change is good & sometimes it’s needed but just not necessary. Just look at the recent review for pocket cast & you will see that I’m not alone. Please add a switch for us that don’t want this change to letgo back to use the old interface.

Redesign is difficult. The app seems quite complicated and but intuitive anymore.

Subscription fatigue. Give me the option to upgrade to plus for a fair one time price and I’d up my score to 5 stars. Ditch cloud storage for the tier if you have to but I’m sick of every developer wanting a monthly payment on my credit card.

Release notes. After reading yet another stellar example of release notes, with their delightfully atypical irreverence, I would dearly love that the inscripter of same might consider being MY Dad !(or Mom, as the case may be!) OMG! Maybe they already ARE 😳!!

resubscription bug. recently resubscribed me to all the podcasts i’ve unsubscribed from over the years. a bit annoying to clean that up again

Hard to personalize. Unlike Stitcher , I found this app very difficult to customize. Damn hard to get it to download and play podcasts according to my needs. After a month of hassle I’m leaving

Hands down best podcast app. I think I’ve only written one other app review in the 15+ years I’ve been using apps. I love podcasts, have one on almost 100% of the time I am able…cooking, cleaning, showering, sleeping, playing a video game, walking, etc This is easily the best app for podcasts in terms of UI, functionality, aesthetics, customization, stats, and most importantly: the update notes. Unlike 99% of other apps, I actually get excited when there’s an update for this app because I get to read another often hilarious, always entertaining notes section. Whomever writes these, you deserve everything good in this world.

Please allow episode playlists!. This app is great. I enjoy that it syncs well with Sonos and that is the main reason I switched from Overcast. Episode playlist functionality would get 5 stars. I read that used to be a feature. It seems like an easy tweak in the filter options too. I do miss the customization that Overcast had and I wish that PocketCasts had the ability to let you create episode based lists. For example a single topic like housing across multiple podcasts. Even if it was a paid feature it would be worth it for me. I saw you can create playlists for specific episodes on Overcast so I may try that out again. It’s just missing true Sonos syncing.

Great queue management. I’ve been using this app for years, because it has the most sensible interface I can find for easy queue management: I never lose my “up next” list as I listen. I can start any other episode, reshuffle my current queue, and anything else I want to do in the app and the rest stays where it needs to be. In general, the app is less cluttered than the others I’ve tried (I’ve used at least 10 other apps) and sticks to the features I need: finding podcasts, seeing when they have new episodes, and excellent playback options. I also enjoy that it works on Alexa and has a web interface that both sync my listening position.

Way Better Than Stock Apple. Tried it after hearing about it on a tech podcast as the one the hosts preferred podcast apps, and it does not disappoint. A shame that the star rating has now been skewed by people reviewing things other than the functionality of the app, but alas. I really enjoy this app, I enjoy the updates being written in an engaging but also informative way, and I can say that the app functions beautifully. The only issue I sometimes have is that the app doesn’t play in my car, but I’m pretty sure that’s because I need a new cord for my car (and possibly a new car but that’s neither here nor there), not anything on the apps end.

Unfortunate newer version. I used to love this app but one of the more recent updates completely changed the interface of the app. The most frustrating for me is swiping left now archives the episode instead of delete, not even sure how to delete episodes anymore. Second most annoying change is instead of the download button being next to the episode title I have to open the show notes, then download from there. There are more issues with the new interface but those are the two big ones for me. It feels like the user experience was not even considered with the new version. Another issue is when I'm using Pocket Casts and Google maps simultaneously the podcast will rewind 10-15 seconds when Google maps pauses the podcast to give directions. I've stopped using Pocket Casts and am currently looking for a new app to use.

Functional - bad UI, bad design.. This is my primary podcast app. I paid $4.99 or something whenever it was a paid version. This app is preferable to the apple podcast app simply because the UI is designed better and is less… wasteful. I was an avid user of that app until a recent update(year or two ago) made it too cluttered and tight to work with. Over all this is a pretty weak show for a playback app. Most of the features are useless. There is very little continuity of space and the whole app is very segmented. The podcast pages have weird bugs and honestly it’s a fight to get this app to work smoothly. Usually I have to go back and forth through menus because, for example, it has decided to archive/not display all the episodes I’ve not listened too and only show me what has been started/completed. The whole app really just… fights itself. The main “feed” won’t even play automatically and while there is supposedly a feature for this… I’ve never gotten it to work. Overall it’s better then apple’s podcast app, but that’s only because the spacing and size of objects in it are more reasonable. That’s it. Beyond that it is aggravating to work with and lack luster. The dark theme is nice.

CarPlay support is buggy. The app on the phone is fine. But I primarily listen to podcasts in the car, using CarPlay. Ever since the last major update, the apps CarPlay support is barely functional. Three out of four times I open pocket casts on CarPlay, I get the spinning loading circle and it eventually says it can’t communicate with pocket casts. When it does load, the podcasts list doesn’t match what is on the phone. Podcasts will just randomly not show up on the list. So I have to grab my phone to load it out of the app. Even the “playing” icon in the upper right of the CarPlay screen shows that audio is playing, when no audio is playing. Tl;dr: if you want a podcast player for CarPlay, this might not be the one for you. At least until they fix the recent bugs.

Bad Update Took Away Favourite Feature!. This app was my favourite cross-platform for the last few years and I rated it highly due to the control and customisation of podcast management. Then they removed my favourite feature: ‘Auto Cleanup’ in the recent v7 update. I travel a lot and can be without internet on planes, underground and in dead spot areas, and the Auto Cleanup settings allowed me to keep only the newest / relevant 1 to 5 episodes of my news, entertainment and information podcasts. Bring back pre-v7 ASAP, totally wrong decision to overhaul it by far for the worse. So I’ve left this app behind, and they even ‘reset’ their ratings, it went from the top rated podcast app to worst with one update to v7, hundreds of 1 star reviews have been removed, don’t waste your money! UPDATE: so now it’s ‘gone free’ to subscription payment mode - the money I did pay for it is now worthless, just like this app. Successfully destroyed the app from version 6 to now. Goodbye!

Great App, but “Plus” not working on Watch. I love this app! I listen to it regularly. I have an Apple Watch since a couple of months and had hoped to use the “plus” subscription to run without my phone. Unfortunately, the watch interface is clunky, but worst of all, the downloads are horribly slow - you have to wait 10 to 15 minutes until a handful of podcasts download and then some get deleted right away. No way to work. If the podcast where to download in the background on the Apple Watch it would be a great product.

Please think of the re-listeners 🙏🏼. I love this app so much, I use it more than any other app on my phone and love what it offers to me. However, the way my listening history is tracked leaves one small thing to be desired: repeat listens; there are podcast episodes I’ve listened to over and over and over again and the app has no idea. I would really appreciate a change that would allow episodes to appear in the listening history more than once, and for repeat listens to count towards the PocketCasts Playback because it’s not fully accurate if it thinks I’ve only listened to The Adventure Zone one time this year.

Best Podcast App. I’ve used this app for over 10 years across different operating systems including quite a while on iOS. The developer has continued to improve and stay relevant and functional over that time and I haven’t ever had a need to switch how I listen to podcasts. Functions like auto-download, search for an episode within a podcast, the up-next queue management, and the overall interface have kept me from being able to commit to any other podcast app. Great job to the makers of Pocket Casts, great app. Delete the stock Apple Podcast app, get this.

Excellent new update!. I had previously given this app a three-star rating because episodes wouldn’t auto play if you were listening to them from a podcast channel’s episode list. However, in the last update they added this exact auto play feature, which in my eyes was really the only thing holding it back from being a nearly perfect podcast app! There’s very little I can take issue with at this point, so with the latest update I am quite happy with it! I have updated it to five-stars! Strongly recommend!

The GOAT Podcast App. I am an avid podcast listener. I listen to short news pods, medium length true crime pods, and long form comedy and interview pods. Pocket Casts allows you to FIND the latest podcasts, SORT them for quick access, and ORGANIZE a larger library if you become a podcast lover. Pocket Casts allows you to LISTEN ACROSS all devices, so I can be listening on my smart phone, get in my car and listen, then get home and pick up right where I left off on my tablet and cast to my smart speakers. This replaces all default apps on smart phones and is the final Podcast app you will ever use.

Free at Last !!!. I downloaded a free audiobook 2 days ago and I have been trying to figure out how to play it on my iphone for 2 days. All i wanted was a sleep timer and i wanted it to start where i left off. Now i love apple for its security, but come on guys not all mp3s are hot. While looking for a solution, i saw several college kids that just wanted to listen to mp3 lectures. Anyway after converting this 600MB file to m4a m4b mp3 and loading all 3 to both google drive and i cloud then trying 7 apps, several forum suggestions, finally this just worked and it does everything the native podcast app does better. God bless you. Now i can learn something.

Been using this for years. I first purchased this app way back on my Samsung Galaxy S1. Over the years I’ve tried many podcatchers, but I keep coming back to this one. Its absolutely solid. With only two real complaints: 1) I wish the watch interface would mirror the episode states from my phone automatically (ie sort order, archived/played/unplayed status). I am halfway through re-listening to WoodTalk (400+ episodes) and its impossible to navigate on my watch with the (understandable) 50 episode limit. Using the “Play Next” transfer setting is a usable work-around. 2) I wish there was a lifetime option for Pocketcasts Plus (subscribed purely for watch support). I am fairly opposed to this subscription model that many podcatchers use. It doesn't seem like a podcatcher as old, and as mature as pocketcasts should need that much recurring development. If every app charged me a subscription I couldn’t afford to use a smartphone. That said, i use this app all the time and only paid like $4 nearly a decade ago, so this is the one app i feel semi-comfortable making an exception for. Still a solid app tho 👍

I love this app except skipping issue. I love this app. I’ve been using it every day, multiple hours a day, for about 4 (?) years. It has a great user interface and has all the features I want. I haven’t had too many issues with it and have recommended this app to everyone. BUT. There is a skipping issue that has started to make this experience frustrating. I’ve tried to see if it’s always on the same spot in specific episodes, and it is, and I can’t figure out how to troubleshoot it. I know it’s not the podcast episode itself because it doesn’t happen on other platforms. Please please please figure this issue out. I will continue to use this app for as long as I can tolerate this issue but man, it’s really killing my vibe. (Skipping happened while I was writing this! 😩)

My New Favorite Podcast App. Ira Glass recommenced this podcast app on This American Life and says it is the app he uses and has used for years. So I of course immediately downloaded it. I have been bouncing back and forth between podcast apps for years in order to listen to different shows and have been consistently frustrated with the interface of certain apps and availability of certain podcasts on the apps I do like. When I downloaded Pocket Casts I was so impressed with their interface and the way I am able to organize my favorite podcasts within the app. All the podcasts I listen to are available (even the one started by my friend that isn’t very big) and I can see and organize my podcasts according to my personal preference. The app easily tracks what I’ve already listened to and archives it for me. I can favorite certain episodes, send a specific moment in the podcast to someone, and even set a sleep timer!! Thanks Ira Glass for turning me on to the podcast app I’ve been needing in my life!!

Hands down best podcast app. I rarely write reviews but I have been searching for a podcast app that does everything I want - most importantly an easily editable up next queue and easy visual reminders of what is newest in my library. Apple podcasts app failed for me. I tried Overcast for a few months and couldn’t see what all the fuss was about 1 “smart” playlists wouldn’t filter by release date and up next queue seemed non-existent. For a heavy podcast user - I downloaded 10 days ago and have logged 17 hours of listening already (love the data analysis feature!), this is $4 well spent. And it syncs with my Sonos!

Very impressive podcast app. This podcast app contains everything I was looking for that other apps seem to either not have or do but with a clumsy interface. This podcast app has an almost perfect interface in my opinion and runs extremely smoothly. I can’t believe it’s free. The developers have done an amazing job. A couple things I’d love to see in future updates is the allow the search function to be within only subscribed podcasts and their show notes, add filter/playlist support to include individual podcast episodes, sharing of audio clips like Overcast has, and being able to add your own notes/comments to specific timestamps within an episode.

Almost the perfect podcast app!. Pocket Casts is quick and intuitive to use, and it is beautifully designed. The one thing that would make it absolutely unbeatable is if we could add bookmarks to the podcasts. I listen to a lot of long lectures and speeches, some of them up to four hours long, and there are so many times I need to come back later and reference different parts of the recording. Currently I have to write all the locations down manually. It would be great to tap a “Create Bookmark” icon while the podcast is playing and have it save the location. Then we could review all the bookmarks and return instantly to any saved location with a simple tap. Add bookmarks, and you’ve got an unbeatable 5-star app!

Great app with one fatal flow. This is podcast perfection, the best sweet spot between simplicity, cost and features. The level of control and customization is great, and I like that you can apply them to individual podcast series rather than being forced to only apply them globally or to a specific episode. This would’ve been 5/5 but beware if a very annoying feature—the queue autoplays 🙁. Sometimes you just want to lineup things to listen to or you want to easily return to items you were listening too (good idea) but sometimes after a podcast you are either done or you want to pick something else in the queue. Dear pocket casts any way you can allow the listener to turn the auto-play on/off? 🙏🏿

slow speed options. I was first attracted to the app because it has a lot of nuance in the speed control. Listening at .9 speed has been a great way to listen to dense informative shows. My brain can keep up and retain better. Other apps only have a .8 speed, which is too slow. I really love the layout of this podcast app, too. It’s simple and doesn’t have any visual promos or ads to contend with. A+++ The only improvement I would like to see is that the loading speed is slower than on other apps. But I’m willing to wait 5 seconds, so still 5 stars! I’m from the dial up generation, though, lol.

Oy... I wished this worked the way I wanted it to.. When I decided to purchase and download this app, I was optimistic that it was going to be way better than Apple’s Podcast app. I was compelled by the emphasis on syncing between devices with an account and downloading. Use of it with CarPlay and Apple Watch along side the app on my phone was another key indication that I’d like this app. However, I often workout or do things without intentional access to my phone and I’d like to listen to Pocket Casts via my Watch and AirPods without access to a data network, cellular or WiFi. I’ve downloaded podcasts and looked for settings in iOS (and web version) that would support being able to do what I have outlined above. However, I am unable to get my watch with pocket casts on it to work independently of a network or being alongside my phone. This is a dealbreaker and now I find this app to be useless.

Not easy to use. Main issue now with it is how hard for this app to register my clicks, in other apps you click around the search bar and you don’t need to think too much about it, but in this podcast app, whatever you click, you need to be concentrated on the exact spot for it to recognize your input and the registry area is so small it reminds me of touch screens 10 years ago, you’d have to stump your finger again and again. It’s so tiring and frustrating an experience. Which is so much worse if you want to interact with it while driving or sth, I’d never thought in 2023 an app with a paid version had this kind of technical issues. Please, if you charge people 40dollars for this, at least make it not a messy chore to use. Now it’s very bad!

Some fixes to the awful Nov 2018 updates but bugs continue. Pocket Casts really messed up a great app with their total revision back in Nov ‘18. Since then it’s become a little easier to group, sort, and (sort of) create playlists. But still a step down from the old version, where those functions were easy and intuitive. Recent update has introduced new bugs. The most irritating of which is the random tendency to clip the last 2-3 minutes of a podcast. At first I thought this was due to editing errors by the podcast producers, but today, after it happened to two casts, I went back and relistened, scrubbing to near the end, and heard the last few minutes that Pocket Cast had dropped. This is a bug in the app. Blah. Fix this, please. Better yet, give users the option of returning to the old pre-Nov 2018 version of the app. You could call it “Back Pocket Casts”.

Random playlist, PLEASE.. I’ve been using the app for some time and really enjoy it. My only request, since I subscribe to far too many podcasts to be able to hear every episode of any of them, is for an option for a randomly-selected playlist. i.e. For podcast A, I want to hear episodes from oldest to newest; For podcast B, I want to hear them from newest to oldest; For podcast C, I don’t have a preference for the order. Why can’t I find a player that will randomly pick a podcast to which I am subscribed and play me the next episode from the above-described criteria? Am I the only person who doesn’t listen to every episode of every podcast to which they subscribe???

Disappointing search functions. Unfortunately you cannot put parentheses around a term and have it look for an exact match. That makes it frustratingly inefficient to find something you are looking for. As an example, I looked for “Bill Hader” in parentheses, and got everything from Bill Maher to Bill Nye the Science Guy. The search doesn’t look through specific episode titles or descriptions either. In the stock Apple app, you can search for an actor, and it will list all of the shows where he was a guest for an episode. In the stock Apple app, you can search for a specific incident or topic, and it will list all the shows where they featured that topic in an episode. The UI and the controls are pretty nice, but none of that matters if I can’t search for content I want to listen to.

Pocket Casts puts Apple’s Podcast app to shame.. Pocket Cast makes my podcast listening experience infinitely better. I got into podcasts a year ago (late to the game I know lol) & used Apple’s app for awhile but didn’t like it (and I’m otherwise an Apple fan & iPhone user). It’s clunky, the search feature stinks, there practically no customization or decent filtering options. Other podcast apps had good reviews so I’d download them only to find they wanted $5, $10, $20 or for me to buy a subscription to use the app, no thanks. Pocket Cast offers dark mode for free (huge bonus for me since my eyes are sensitive to light). Overall a great app. Keep up to good job Pocket Cast & keep those awesome updates coming! 😉

Podcast Perfection!. I have searched many apps and solutions to find a podcast player/catcher that can: remain in-sync across its own app on multiple phone and tablet devices, supports Apple CarPlay, affordable, and works well on downloads with Apple Watch. This app hits all those marks and then some! With its recent introduction of enhanced Watch connectivity and offline usability, this app finally earns its top spot in my app drawer and is my go-to podcast player. The price is best at the annual rate and is well worth it (especially if you’re trying to use podcasts on your Apple Watch). These developers seem engaged and responsive to feedback. I hope they continue to find success and keep this app stable for years to come.

The absolute best. I love Pocket Casts. Been a user/subscriber for a long time. Being able to import audio files from patreon pages that don’t have their own podcast feed has been amazing and so easy to do. Love being able to rearrange shows to my liking in the tile view. Tiles are so much better than lists when it comes to organizing. The only thing I wish I could do was have multiple “home screens” for different types of podcasts, still in a customizable tile view. Like if I wanted all my science and space-related podcasts to be on one screen I could do that, etc.

Latest updates ruined a great app. I hate writing negative reviews, especially of an app that I have loved for years. But the latest set of updates has made Pocket Casts almost unusable. Previously, it was one of my most reliable apps, literally never crashing, never freezing, never having playback issues. It was pristine. I listen to podcasts through my whole day at work, and now it crashes, freezes, and shuts down dozens of times a day. I have to deal with a frozen screen and lose access to the rest of my phone or restart the app repeatedly. Also, the 15-second fast forward and rewind frequently don’t work either, getting caught in some sort of a loop where it keeps restarting at the same place as it’s trying to go back 15 seconds but never successfully does, ultimately leading to a crash. Inertia more than anything else has kept me from switching to a new app, but my frustration grows daily, so unless these basic bugs are fixed, I’ll have to go elsewhere. Otherwise, the major overhaul recently completed was delightful, but I would happily return to the old version and its stability if possible.

You found it: The replacement you’re looking for. After years of grinding through the infamously byzantine default Podcasts app, I invested a few days trying out a bunch of alternatives. This is the winner. I most appreciate Pocket Casts’ (1) sensible navigation and (2) low switching costs: Once you subscribe to your favorite podcasts, it’s fairly painless to archive the episodes you’ve already listened to on your last app, thanks to their search and bulk select features. Pocket Casts works perfectly fine on the free version, even if you don’t pay anything. But I’ve just decided to become a paid subscriber because I’m grateful for how improved my podcasting experience is.

Best podcast app bar none. I’ve been listening to podcasts for a decade+ and I’ve tried many many apps. Pocketcast is the best bar none: — fast, responsive customer service and technical troubleshooting — frequent updates and bug fixes — sync episodes between phone, watch and computer (listen on the go just using Apple Watch is a game changer) — best listening functions (1.1x playback, silence skipping, boosted sound) — intuitive UI — user customization — hilarious Version History notes I know it sounds like I work for whoever makes this app but I just people to know how legit it is. Much better than the competition

Used to be good. I really liked this app, as it did everything i needed for the 10-12 programs I liked. The recent upgrade improved the UI quite a bit. I liked that it automatically downloaded my favorites and put them in the queue. But then it started deleting shows from the queue, so I would expect to hear a show and it would be gone, and I’d have to find it and stick it back in. That was annoying enough but I could deal with it. But the final straw was that it would end a cast about 3 minutes before the cast actually ended, and then I’d have to dig around in the archive (because now the podcast was deleted from my queue and archived) and then stream the last few minutes. After doing this about half a dozen times I decided it was simply too much effort and have found another app. It really was a shame but the problems were too frustrating to deal with.

The best all-around podcast app. I keep trying other apps, but I keep coming back to Pocket Casts. For that “consistency,” I give it five stars. Its not perfect by any means. I think Pocket Casts needs better voice-boost. It’s as if the app simply turns up the overall volume, and I personally want something closer to normalization of voices. But all things considered, it’s a better all-around podcast app than the competition. Other apps are great in some respects, and crappy in others. Pocket Casts, though, is great in some areas and merely good in others. So in my personal evaluation of podcast apps, other apps have plusses and minuses. PC, though only has plusses.

You don't want to deal with the people who make this thing. The first time Pocket Casts annoyed me: when they announced a premium subscription after explicitly promising (in earlier times) that the up-front price would cover their future operating costs. They became popular partially on the back of that lie, which they dropped the moment they thought it would make them more money (with a bonus spoonful of tone-deaf messaging). The second time Pocket Casts annoyed me: for literally years now the app has often failed to add new podcasts to Up Next, seemingly at random. Podcasts from my New Releases will get added to the queue just fine, until it randomly skips a few, which I then have to manually add and rearrange. Really, how hard is it to get this basic functionality right? The third time Pocket Casts annoyed me: when they started changing the home screen app logo on a short-term basis for ideological proselytism. It's a utility app for God's sake. What kind of an obnoxious person wants random utility apps preaching to them on their home screen, whether they broadly agree with the message or not? I don't like advertising where it doesn't belong. It is obnoxious. Stop doing it. Anyway, spare yourself the headache and download something else.

Best Podcast App!. Friends, for years I have been searching for the best podcast app, you name it I've downloaded it and try it out from the App Store but just never felt like I found the right one. Well, that search is over best everything you what or need is right here this app. I've used the free version for months and finally went ahead and paid for my year membership, that I have features that I love that made me want to do a review. No pocket cast didn't pay me to say this but I would love to work for them one day because their ideas have made me a happy person to enjoy all of my video and audio podcast shows!

Update: Still great!. Uodate: still great and rock solid for very heavy use. CarPlay menu updates and ability to view chapters also nice. Previous: Go-to podcast app (and web player) for years. Love the redesign - Siri Shortcuts, adding to filters from individual podcast settings (yes!), silence trimming while streaming...flows really well...SO MUCH GOODNESS. Someone mentioned having an issue with CarPlay getting episodes to start. Not doubting they have, but I haven’t ever had this issue on my CarPlay implementation (Hyundai Ioniq 2018). Shifty Jelly, please keep Sonos support going as you make improvements, by the way :->. UPDATE: Sonos now syncs Up Next. Thank you!

I love this app. I’ve been using this for about 2 months and so far it is perfect, for me at least. It runs WAY smoother than the native Apple Podcasts app and refreshes faster and searches faster and just all the stuff it is supposed to do works very well and smooth. All the features seem to work the way they’re supposed to. And no crashes or freezing or any of that stuff. I already deleted the Apple Podcasts app. Unless Pocket puts a paywall in front of existing features that are free right now or the app starts running like crap like the Apple Podcasts app always did, this is the podcast player i’ll be using every day from now on.

By far the best podcasting app. I normally don’t leave reviews but I’ve tried tons of different podcast apps and none come close to how simple and clean the UI for Pocketcasts is. If I were to change one small thing, it would be to add the functionality of being able to leave notes at specific timestamps. Other apps have already been doing this and I hate to leave this app to record an idea at a specific point in time of the episode, then go back to this app. I don’t even mind if this would be a premium feature considering it could require cloud storage to leave notes. I’d be sold. Every thing else is perfect!

Latest update adds clutter, needs to be reconsidered ASAP. Latest update adds a huge push in multiple UX surfaces for something called Bookmarks for a group of users called Patrons which is somehow different from Plus users? Either way, a “now playing” card for a podcast that has chapters now has four sections at the top: 1) Now Playing, 2) Details, 3) Bookmarks (paid only), and 4) Chapters. I use 1/2/4 constantly so having that pestering upsell slotted between them is a huge pain and may be something that drives me away from the app after 271 nonstop days of listening time according to my profile. Paid or not, I don’t see a need for this new area in the app. I don’t need new screens or features, the app is fine as it is. Please let me opt out of updates like this or add toggles for features I’m not interested in…

Carplay issue with archives. Like the app but one of the recent updates has crippled the app on Apple Carplay. Perhaps I'm missing a setting but only downloaded episodes appear in the Carplay interface now unlike previous versions that showed episodes that were and were not downloaded. So if you use the archiving feature to keep your downloads storage down but run out of downloads for a particular podcast, you're out of luck in Carplay. You have to wait until you can grab your phone to start streaming an episode which seems to defeat the purpose and safety benefits of Carplay, or not listen. This is the case even when Show Archives is enabled. Please fix, the car is where I and imagine others enjoy the majority of podcasts.

Excellent Podcast App for the Non-Power User. If you are like me and just want a cross platform podcast application to listen to your five or so podcasts on a weekly basis, then Pocket Casts is a great option. I understand that there are a number of complaints about the most recent update which speak to legitimate regressions in functionality for power users, however, this is a legitimately good podcast application that works for my particular needs which include Google Cast support, and the ability to operate it with my voice without having to unlock my phone (like while I am driving). That being said, I still face one issue where Google Cast support can get a bit wonky requiring me to force quit the app, reopen it and reconnect. If the team can squash that bug then this app is perfect for my needs.

Loved it, now it's a mess. I used to love this app. Paid for it even and used it for years. Then they updated it and I'm not sure what else, but it's a mess.. An absolute mess. It randomly looses 15-30 minutes of podcasts I've listened to, sending me back in time wasting my time. The defaults of the old app have all been suppressed in the new one (why turn off new episode red circle by default?? Who thought that was a good idea). Archive vs delete??? Getting it to tell you all the back episodes of a cast and what ones you've listened to and others you haven't? Synching between my iPhone and iPad is spotty and forget my Apple Watch. I'm happy someone bought them out so they can keep working on this but honestly mostly since then it's been down hill. Fix it so I can love your app again. Otherwise I need to go find a replacement.

iOS 15 broke volume control from watch. This is my favorite podcast app. My only current complaint is that since the new iOS 15 update, i have been unable to change the volume via the apple watch. Previously, i could open PocketCasts on my apple watch and then turn the dial button to adjust the volume on my air pods. This no longer works and i have to get my phone out to adjust volume. I hope the devs can figure it out and fix, even though this issue is really Apple's fault. Everything else i love. - making filters, keeping track of and easily identifying which episodes i already listened to, the adjustable length of fast forward or backward.. all very nice. Well- one other tiny complaint is that when an episode has a long title, it cuts off the end on the carplay display. This is very minor, but it would be nice to see the whole title of the episode. Thanks for making a great product.

Disappointed, to say the least…. I’ve been a subscriber for several years, but the recent change to the default app icon was a terrible decision. Don’t get me wrong, I totally support the LGBT community, but forcing your beliefs upon others, myself, and my device is too much. We’re paying customers, we didn’t ask for this. I choose to remain neutral and respectful of all people, without an agenda. When it comes to politics, religion, or your personal beliefs, please be kind and think of everyone and not just yourselves. I’m canceling my subscription right after I post this review. We must be one— thoughtful and understanding of others and their beliefs. Selfishness is not how we come together. A better way to promote Pride month would have been taking a portion of sales and donating it to a LGBT related charity. I would have been fine with this. I’m sure 95% of the others leaving negative reviews about the icon change would have been fine with this too. Also, for those users out there reading reviews and stating that we can just change the icon. That’s true. Most of us know how to do this. It’s not complicated. Changing the app icon back to something else doesn’t change the principle though.

Great UX, terrible playback. I really like the user interface of the app and think it’s a big improvement on Apple Podcasts - much easier and visually appealing to navigate. But when it comes to the actual audio quality of listening, there are some pretty big issues I’ve had and reported to the team that have never been addressed. In nearly every episode I listen to, the audio skips back a minute or two randomly and then ends the episode early because of the skip back. I would have expected them to have fixed this by now and it’s a huge bummer. If the app could actually play a full podcast episode I wouldn’t hesitate to give it five stars.

Why am I surprised they charge for Apple Watch support?. The shift from great podcast player to nickel and diming developers has been extremely irritating over the last year. They released a badly thought out redesign. They updated it a bit but also implemented a subscription feature that no one asked for and provided almost no value whatsoever. And now recently to top it all off, they finally introduced syncing support with Apple Watch but it’s behind their premium subscription. I am all for supporting developers who work hard and make great apps, but I get angry every time I open the app and hit a paywall screen for some of the most basic iOS functionality. I highly recommend (and will be going myself) to Overcast. They figured out the correct way to charge for optional ads for ongoing support and include watch functionality for free. Don’t waste your time with PocketCast.

My favorite app, but so buggy. I love pocket casts. I’ve been using it for over a year and a half at this point. The UI is great and the audio controls are excellent. But occasionally I just won’t be able to play my podcasts for no good reason. Resetting my phone, logging out and back in, and force refreshing the app do nothing. Normally, I would just delete and use another app but I know the team at PC are doing their best. I just hope this issue can be resolved soon because it’s been a recurring issue and makes it hard to use the app.

Skipping issue but otherwise good. I have nearly the same review as one I just read (from a year ago, so the issue has been longstanding). I like this more than other podcast apps but the major problem is that it skips or jumps back during podcasts. At first I thought it was bad editing on the part of the pod, but it happens all the time now with multiple pods. Sometimes it will happen multiple times in the same podcast. When it skips back, the timer doesn’t also skip back, so often I can’t hear the end of the podcast. If I’m really pressed I’ll have to open up Apple podcast app and listen there. I’ll take someone else’s advice and force close. If this problem were finally addressed, this would be a 5 star app.
