Frustrating!. I’ve booked through other rental apps before, and it usually shows how many miles that comes with the car prior to charging you extra per mile. I looked at the details of the owners profile about the car and it never mentioned how many miles come with the car. I assumed it was unlimited mileage since nothing was listed about it, only to find out that once I booked is when it showed I only had 800 miles for 4 days of having the car. Worst part I can’t even contact the owner of the car regarding this issue, nor was there a number to call the actual company because it was no longer managed. I wanted to cancel the rental and rebook somewhere else, but I had a question regarding the security deposit given plus the refund of what I paid. I emailed customer service and obviously it’s going to take awhile to get back to me, and now that I’m looking at the cancellation they are only going to refund half the money I paid because although I wanted to cancel within the hour, I needed to speak to customer service because even if I got the refund I obviously would not get it back into my account to book another trip. It’s frustrating when you can’t contact them to actually speak with a representative of the company.

What out for extra charges…. Had a terrible experience with this app. The car was dirty, like never been cleaned. The required parking at drop off is an automatic tickets. (A requirement upon return is you have to park in a designated area that has no parking restrictions for 24 hours) The 2 parking areas that you can choose has a 2 hour parking window EVERYDAY FROM 8 AM to 10PM. EVERYDAY. So if you return your car at 7PM you have a ticket 2 hours later at 9PM. If you return it at 11PM you get a ticket at 10AM no matter how you work it you get a ticket. It’s predatory since I now have to pay for a ticket that isn’t my fault. This parking area should not be allowed. Once you end your trip you can’t get back in the car, even when you are trying to finish the check in process. I got a bogus fuel charge. Started my trip with 52% ended my trip at 58%. Then went to check my trip on the account and saw a fuel charge and all of a sudden my fuel start was 72% so they charged my card for fuel that I had already paid for then overdrafted my account.

Zero stars would be better. The people that fix the errors of this app in customer service have to do everything because the app is so inaccurate and poorly designed. I got two cars with huge issues both times and I will never do it again. I almost lost my apartment they had on hold for me because it took me three extra hours to get there because this app had a car I reserved on it only for them to call me while I was getting dropped off by my Uber that the battery in that car was dead so I was stranded and had to wait while customer service processed my complaint. I have to wait a week until I get that trip refunded end so now that I’m about $40 deep I still am 2 hours late now and still no car so I had to spend even more on my Uber to get to the next closest car and also that Uber back to my house when I had parked it was so expensive because at that point I was somewhere random. I had to do something or loose my rental I tried all month to apply for and this car rental almost made me totally loose that opportunity. I’m actually baffled they have this many errors. No efficiency and very slow recovery if any recovery at all is made. I’d honestly take the bus next time. It would take just as long but be about $100 cheaper! Thanks!

Badly operated in Los Angeles area. Don’t waste your time with this up too many problems you cannot rely on the service at all. It’s better to take the bus at the last minute when you’re on your way in an Uber they will call you and tell you Either the car is no longer available for a call on location is unknown. The owner has canceled. The car. Can’t be found the cars dirty when you get there, The cars location has moved from the destination, but you’re on your way to call me. There seems to be a lack of communication with the app and the owners, off the vehicles. Trying to get your money back is always a problem they will argue with you about reimbursement for the Uber. You have to take to and from the location when your time was wasted because the car isn’t either day or it’s there and there’s no keys. Oh the car is there and the Owners stuff is in the trunk of the car and is used facemasks all over the vehicle. Are you today worked 12 hours in advance got confirmed from owner. Two hours before I’m due to pick up the car the owner contacts me and cancels says they can’t get in touch with the app when I go to cancel I’ve paid $67 and they’re only offering me a refund of $33 so now I’ve got to fight to get my money back

SCAM. Allen(I think that was his name he refused to tell me it) from customer service is the worst person I have ever spoken to. After using a car with this company they called saying I returned the car one mile in the wrong spot even tho the gps ON THEIR APP told me to park exactly where I did. I followed all the instructions then I get a call the next day saying they were going to fine me because it was in the wrong spot. When I offered to drive out there to move the car before they took those steps I told them it would take 20 min to get there since I was at work. At exactly 25 min later they called me saying I failed to show up (even tho I was on the way) and they were still going to charge me for not complying. This is the biggest scam I hve ever heard of I plan on reporting them to the BBB and might even get lawyers involved. They blocked me from entering my account now and they keeep asking for proof of things in my account YET THEY WONT UNBLOCK MY ACCOUNT so I can’t even login to show them proof. Their customer service was the rudest people I ever encountered. Never again using their services and I highly advise anyone else not to and to share the word. Their app Has glitches and they blame you for their own app glitches and then fine you. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Undisclosed fees, painful user experience. They charged a huge fee for going over a 200 mile per day cap that they never disclosed during the reservation process or when I paid upfront. After being charged, I noticed it disclosed in the middle of a bunch of bullet points at the end of the confirmation email. They have a monopoly in my area, so I had no choice but to pay to keep my account. At least I know about the fee now, but the process to actually start and end a trip is so painful. What’s their motto? “Rent. Unlock. Go.” Nope, they forgot about the 15 minutes in between unlocking and going for vehicles inspections and taking photos and etc that you have to do before you can leave. I get it, they must’ve had a bunch of disputes over vehicle damage. Well, bake that into the price, or offer a premium service in which you don’t have to go through this and Getaround eats the costs (paid for by the premium service fees). There have also been other things — dirty cars are common, and once there was no key in the car and I lost 30 minutes getting a new reservation! I’m now very tempted to buy a cheap, used car. Anything’s better than this experience.

Bad start but good experience eventually. So I booked a muscle car for a 6AM ride in the mountains (sunrise!) and woke up reading these bad news: my trip was cancelled because the car is not available and ‘we booked you another car instead’. However, that other car was a family car, not a dodge charger I wanted… Basically my plans for the day were ruined. I refused to take this newly booked car and asked for the exact/similar replacement. It was Saturday morning so the support was slow and no way to call them. I ended up cancelling the trip and plans. Next day I woke up and was notified that an agent booked a car for me on my behalf and charged my card! She did not read other agent’s conversation where I told I will book myself… Long story short I booked a car I wanted the next week and had a pleasant experience. All my previous charges were refunded.

Terrible customer service and an a predatory Terms of Services.. I would not recommend this app to anyone. Getaround is a practice with very poor customer service—there are no addresses to refer to and no phone numbers, so the only way to contact them is through email. Getaround and a car owner associated with them is currently withholding my wallet with important information inside from me. I dropped it in one of the vehicles my sister borrowed and, despite our efforts, the company insisted that we pay $866 to rent the car again, a raised price due to alleged damages that I have nothing to do with. This is included in their Terms of Services, yet I never agreed to any of that. I did not rent the vehicle nor have I used the app, yet the company continues to insist on an absurd payment for my property back. After conversing through emails, Getaround has decided that my sister, the renter, is no longer allowed to access the Getaround platform as a result of a “routine audit”. This happens during the support ticket for the retrieval of my wallet back. Meaning, if she did decide to attempt to rent the vehicle again for $866, this would no longer be an option, as she is prohibited from using the platform. I have tried contacting the company myself, but once they realized I was not the customer, they stopped emailing me. I am missing several items crucial to my identification yet this company does not care when they do not get their money.

This app is terrible. I never take the time out to even leave reviews, but this app has called me to do so. I am so displeased with this app, they have awful customer service and they do not help you rather they disclose information from you to the reason why someone can’t use their services. I have a clean driving record, a valid drivers license, and provided all the information that was needed. After being told I could start getting on the road, I tried to select a car and it told me I was suspended. I emailed the help services and they responded with “ Thank you for your continued patience. After further review, I regret to inform you that we’re unable to activate your Getaround account. For security reasons, we unfortunately cannot provide details about our account verification process, but we encourage you to sign up with another car sharing resource in your area.” I messaged them again and they repeated this same message to me like a robot. This app would get 0 stars if I could give it because its false advertisement. I can’t even use the app for no reason. This app needs a lot of work as it is below satisfactory.

Horrible Experince. This app and its service is trash! Same application interface as FAIR! WARNING! You may have problems with the app but the biggest problem is the service! I rented the same car two times. U only get the car for less then 8hrs. (7hrs:30 Min’s) Your better off becoming a cab driver because at least then for what you pay you get the car for 24hrs. Car will have only half a tank when you pick it up! If you fill it back up as I did they give you back less the the value of one gallon as a refund! The next day I rented the same car I filled up! Oh and I lost my wallet in the car! The owner drove car around used up gas so it was at 3/4...I drove down to half noticed I forgot or lost my wallet and filled up just below 3/4 with cash I had! They charged me $7.00 per gallon for it not bring full! Parking on street without signs and street cleaning is almost impossible in LA. Your responsible for the car for 24hrs after you park it! That’s insane Monday through Friday! Horrible customer service policies are money traps and you won’t make any money doing Uber with these cars lucky to break even!

Absolutely misleading, should be considered fraud. Never experienced a more misleading or sleazy service. Claims to offer “instant” car rental with just your license, credit card, and Facebook, but as soon as an attempt is made to book a trip, then decides to inform the user they can’t actually use the service for multiple days until their “credentials” are verified. Who does this verification? Who is going through my personal information? No idea. The service attempts to lure in the desperate, those in need of a ride immediately and who are willing to pay a massive amount because of it, then takes their information and kicks them to the curb. Truly appalling and utterly unacceptable treatment of customers. Stay away from this app at all costs, and if you use it, be prepared to have your personal identification and credit information taken without any sort of service offered at all. The closest thing to a credit card fraud app I’ve ever seen offered. If you, like I was, are desperately in need of a ride, look to other ride sharing services. This is nothing but fraud.

To put it kindly, a learning experience…. Let me acknowledge that not everyone may have a bad experience as this app is designed for the sole purpose of connecting car owners and borrowers, but I want others to understand what they may get themselves into. I can’t speak on what the car owners are advised to do by the app itself, so I am documenting my experience here. I pulled up to my rental car a little after the time I chose to pick it up. People dropped the vehicle off were getting out of the car and taking photos for their inspection. Let’s takennote that there is no in between check from renter to the next. The people tell me that the car “needs service”. I found this strange but brushed it off. They drove off and I turned on the vehicle. Check engine, battery, EPC, and tire pressure light was on. I immediately called customer support and explained the situation; the representative I spoke to told me I drove .46 of a mile since the time I rented it? I explained that I didn’t even shift gears, just turned the car on and noticed all of the warnings. I was refunded the full price but the entire experience was far more complicated than necessary and I will be renting through airline car rentals moving forward.

Honest review. I’ve used Getaround a few times now. I like that the app lets you unlock the car. No need to meet up with the owner. I’ve only met the owner once because the keys weren’t in the pocket pouch in the car. Every-time I fully inspect the car and document everything in the app. My experiences wasn’t bad. I have no horror stories. There is three things I dislike about it though. First off renters shouldn’t be charged for towing after 24 hours of drop off. Also there should be a gas card available. Filling up the tank shouldn’t come out of the customers pocket. Plus the distance that the car is at should be calculated by walking distance, not driving. That’s why I rent around day time. I would recommend for quick trips and to run errands. There is a mileage limit. 0.50 cents after that and they charge for tolls. Plus they charge for extension as well. Always park the car where you found it and drive safe and don’t park on the street cleaning side just read the road signs.

Raggedy cars. I rented a 2020 Nissan Altima from this app one Saturday afternoon until Monday well the transmission ended up failing 7hrs into the trip I reached out to customer service (there’s not a phone #) for you to call regarding these people cars but I digress. Anyway the transmission went out so I drove it to my house they told me they wanted me to pay to have the car towed back to the owner and once he checked the car out I would maybe probably they weren’t for sure get a refund, My main issue was would I be able to get refunded because the car malfunctioned 7hrs into my trip it’s been a week and I haven’t even so much as received a email from them. I never received any information about this issue I was never refunded nor compensated for the issue regarding the transmission going out on the vehicle 7 hours after my rental started, I submitted pictures they even made me check the oil and send a picture I also risked my life driving the raggedy car back to the owner. I paid to have the car from Saturday until Monday morning but the car transmission failed 7 hours into the rental and NO ONE HAS REACHED OUT TO ME. I will be forwarding all emails between us to the BBB aswell as my attorney regarding this matter. Since this company has not tried to reach out to me. P.s all the cars in Dallas smell like weed Update, so it’s been well over a week I haven’t heard anything back from Getaround, there is no phone number to call them and they will not respond to your emails.

Poor Customer Servicing and App performance issues. I never got a chance to use the app in the first place. After I submitted my license for a review check, I attempted to select a vehicle to the closest location on the map, then every time I selected a vehicle close to my location, the screen goes black. Now I already reported and filed a complaint about this issue/bug then the representative told to uninstall Facebook and the app and reinstall it in a certain way. I followed all procedures but, still kept receiving the black screen then all of sudden I couldn’t get to the payment screen at all. I filed another complaint but I never received a response for the past 1-2 weeks about my 3 tickets. Now my account is under-investigation which I don’t understand about because they have my address and information where I’m at and identity. I still never received any response to why my account is under investigation now. And I think it very very poor customer service even if I can’t get in touch by phone which is terrible. It would be great if I get the attention and help need to move forward.

Fraudulent charges, awful experience. We used this app to rent a car for a few hours while on vacation and the actual rental experience was fine - streamlined, no complaints. Then, after returning the car, we were hit with a $50 charge because the owner reported we had “left the window down” (we had not). We responded back to the customer service rep letting them know that we hadn’t left the window down and to check the photos we submitted upon parking the car. They replied that the owner said it was not visible in the photos. When we tried to argue it and told them that the owner was clearly attempting to scam us out of damage fees, they blocked our account for violating their terms of service (??). We did not use foul language toward the employee during this exchange, or do anything that should have resulted in a ban. I would not recommend this service at all after our experience - it is far too easy for vehicle owners to charge fraudulent damage fees, and the app’s customer support will not even attempt to investigate your case if this happens to you.

A mess. The concept of this app is nice but it is so poorly run. First it took forever for the verification process which is so inconvenient. After almost a month I was finally verified. Fast forward to the day of my rental I get to the car.. the car was filthy! The gas was below E so I didn’t even feel comfortable driving it to the nearest gas station because I didn’t know if I would make it. It also reeked of weed. I reached out to the customer service and the rep was very friendly (she’s the reason for the 2 stars). She was able to find me another car nearby. The car was definitely a lot better but still very dirty inside. That is unacceptable there needs to be some process in place where the car is being checked after each use. As a result of the first incidence I missed an appointment I had...I was never expecting to get to the first car and spend practically 30 minutes trying to get that issue resolved. Although the rep was friendly they didn’t offer much for the inconvenience other than a 30 min extension to the new rental.

Awful service - do not use. There are many car share platforms out there so there is no need to use a sub par version. I tried to use Getaround for a weekend getaway - I secured a car and the next day it was canceled by the owner (understandable this happens). I received a $10 credit and so tried again - secured a car and the night before my trip at 10pm it was canceled so I didn’t see that until the morning of my trip - I received only a $25 dollar credit which was not additive to the $10 credit. I looked around for other option but at this last minute everything else through other companies was booked so I was pushed into renting the most expensive option. We traveled an hour to the car only to get there and have the car not checked in and not there. We called customer service and they confirmed that despite what the app said the car had not been checked-in and there were no other cars available- we then were given a $25 dollar credit and money back. Overall this was so unreliable I would say to stay away from this app if you have anywhere to be. The other car share app Turo ended up saving our weekend so I’d recommend using them instead.

Be careful!. Getaround is a terrible company. They gave me some vouchers because they damaged my car while installing a device for the app. They kept my car for a month and a half and when they returned it it still was not the same as when they took it. To make up for it they gave me some vouchers to use whenever I needed to rent a car. When I finally decided to use them for a trip to San Diego from Los Ángeles to se a cardiologist I had been waiting to see for 6 months since I have an enlarged heart they wouldn’t let me use a voucher to extend the trip. I wasn’t close to my car where my wallet was and I asked that they wait till the morning to use my card since they neglected to tell me the voucher could only be used for new trips. That night they took the car that had my wallet, my heart medication and everything I had brought on my trip. They where aware that I was on the street with no wallet and most important with my medication and they did nothing. They had me wait from 10am to 9pm for a supervisor to call until I finally called and the rep plain and simple said they could do not a thing for me. I was stranded in San Diego, no wallet and no medication and not a place to spend the night. Real nightmare. Shame on you Getaround.

This app isn’t ready. It’s buggy, but that’s not the worst of it. I tried using it for the first time during a short business trip in Seattle. I have a friend that I wanted to see on her birthday, but with her living an hour away, an Uber there and back would have cost as much as a flight from where I live. Anyway, I was looking for options and saw the Getaround app and that it would only cost $30 to rent a car for the time I needed. I was excited to have found a doable way to get to see my friend. I made the reservation and since the trip was confirmed, I thought I was good. Unfortunately, an hour before I was going to get the car, I checked to find the address and I saw that my trip had been canceled. It took a minute to figure out why but I found it was because they needed to confirm my identity. “Send is a selfie and your ID and we will review it within 48 hours.” Ag! Why wasn’t I asked to provide that when I registered for the app? And to top it all, I have a $190 hold on my card (when I booked the car, I had to agree for them to put $150 hold because it was my first trip). So irked!

UBER DRIVERS BEWARE. Each day you’ll face a new hassle. I like the idea of renting a car by the hour and partnership provides great rates. You’ll make 3 to 4 times the hourly rental fee and not have the hassle of maintenance and insurance. That said, most of the cars are filthy inside and out. Make sure you plan your pickup at a location with multiple cars because more than likely the one you reserve won’t be ready to pickup passengers. When this happens find a car in the lot you like and then call customer service and transfer your reservation to the acceptable car and for your time having to do this make sure GetAround gives you at least two additional hours of time. Do not do what I’ve done. Do not offer to clean the car. The two extra hours aren’t worth it and it’ll take forever for GetAround to return the cleaning costs to you. Be a good renter and return cars as you expect to find them but don’t give any effort towards making a car right. Be prepared to spend a long time on the phone when you call. The representatives are very nice but they don’t get things done with speed.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I rented a car and took it about 100 miles to another town for a day trip. I refueled in said town and just as I put my foot on the brake the brake line pops. I call Getaround support (which you can only call them if you have an active reservation) and explain that my brakes no longer worked and she told me it must’ve been me needing brake fluid and that she had to call the owner so I can replace it. This was my 2nd customer service rep. After I inspected further I found brake fluid leaking and knew I had no brakes. Called my 3rd rep to try and repost that I cannot drive the car and she did not listen and said that I have to wait for confirmation to buy brake fluid to refill the car (customer service rep 3). So 4 hours later and 4 reps later I finally get told that they will call a tow truck and that I could go home and that everything will be handled. I waited 4.5 hours in total for help, got useless help from 6 different customer service reps, and they ended up towing the car 5 MINUTES DOWN THE ROAD from where it was broken down so I could’ve taken it there when the issues first started but no they didn’t wanna lose money. Oh yes and now that I’m trying to get a refund since this all happened on the first day of renting the car, it’s only through email you cannot call them if you don’t have a reservation. After I get my money back I will never us this service again and I’ll never recommend them to anyone

This company has gone downhill. I drive for Uber. I started getting cars from Getaround since October of 2019. I’m in the DC/MD/VA area. It started out great. Great customer service, decent cars, not a very good process of finding the car at the site. However, the last two months have been a nightmare. Multiple times I’ve went to pick up a car and it’s filthy, not working and/or has been broken into and glass everywhere inside the car. The problem with that is they know the condition of the cars and still have them available for rent. I would literally have to switch cars about 3 times until I found a decent car. And it takes a while to actually find a car because you have to walk around a car lot of hundreds of cars and search for the license plate number. That’s only if they even have any available cars. The customer service has gone down as well. I was once told by an agent “what do you want me to do about it” lol. When you’re spending $268 per week on renting a car, you shouldn’t have to go through this. And if you rent it daily it’s $76 per day. And this was an increase. I will not be returning to Getaround until they fix these issues. It isn’t worth the headache. Pics will be posted on google and yelp.

Terrible Service and Very Expensive. My partner and I accidentally got a flat tire in our rental car and had to pull over off the side of the highway. After calling the company for support, we were told that a tow truck would be there in 10-15 minutes. An hour later, it had still not arrived. We called again for an update as to its whereabouts, only to be told the same thing. After waiting for another hour, we were getting nervous because it was the middle of the night and we were still stranded. We called again through the app, only to be hung up on TWICE before receiving any actual assistance. Finally, after waiting a total of three hours, the tow truck came and fixed our flat tire. By then, we had already been charged around $400 for the service and another $100 for having the car longer than we were supposed to. My partner and I also noticed that while the large payment was processed right away, the service itself took THREE HOURS to get to us. We are deeply unsatisfied with the treatment we received from this company and we will NOT be using them again in the future. We would have been better off with Zipcar.

Horrible Experience. We have been stranded 8hrs away from home at the Childrens Hospital since December for my sons life saving organ transplant. I decided to try this out for a day to grocery shop and get some things done during a birthday weekend. The app SEEMED to work seamlessly. There were a couple of cars near me to pick up so I reserved one several days before I needed to pick up. On day of pick up we got kiddo ready for his first exciting outing. ONE hour before we needed to pick the vehicle up, we received a message from the owner stating it was “non-operable” and “not available to rent currently”. We asked him to cancel on his end so we wouldn’t get dinged with a same day cancellation and he refused. He was rude and hung up never contacting us back after a couple attempts of trying. After calling the company’s customer service they said they would cancel on their end but it looked like the other 2 cars available were also “not available to rent”. I asked why vehicles are online that aren’t available to rent and never got a clear answer. It took a whole 9 days for the money to reimburse back to my account (money we needed to rent another vehicle- which we were then unable to do). Once the reimbursement came through, of course we LOST money in the end of it all. Horrible and shady company. I will stick with Lyft or Uber from now on.

Y far the best service I’ve received on all rideshare rental options. This is GENUIS! I’ve had a few issues with car cleanliness or a car not starting but any and all the agents have been extremely professional... empathetic and knowledgeable. By the time I get off the phone I’m more then pleased . They don’t make excuses or blame other people. They recognize the issue and fix it immediately . I e literally rented a car from them every day for two weeks . I love that you don’t ha e to wait in line. You truly do book the car . Once to the location the app locks on on your signal and unlocks the car remotely. You check the gas and for damages and you’re on your way . Literally a five minute process . This company is going places . Very convenient . And it fits my schedule and life . I almost don’t want to tell people bc I want to keep this little secret to myself . I recommend that everyone try it .

SCAM STAY AWAY!!. I tried getaround a year ago and had a pretty good experience. The only problem was that once I rented a car and the cup holder was full of teriyaki sauce and it was really messy inside of the car when I picked it up. Anyways I referred a friend and he tried getaround a couple times and apparently saw a $100 cleaning fee charge on his account. He had rented a Toyota Prius and apparently the owner claimed the car was dirty and that he needed to pay $100 to get it cleaned after my friend used the car. The funny thing is my friend rented the exact same car the next day and it was still dirty inside and the owner who rented the car was lying and committing fraud to make an extra $100 off of the renters. He called the company and they were no help at all and wouldn’t even admit the owner of the car was lying and cheating the customers. So anyways just a heads up to anyone who is attempting to rent a car from this company. You may be charged $100 for a cleaning fee or even a damage fee even if you are not responsible! I have proof of this and I am actually ashamed and embarrassed I referred a friend to this company who had This awful experience. Thanks getaround for sucking! Maybe get better staff so you don’t have to deal with upset customers who gave you a chance.

Will add more later. Can't wait until I finally get my car back, because this business model is a little sketchy. I have to check everytime to assure the insurance coverage information is in the glovebox? For some reason I thought I would be covered by Getaround insurance, like you're covered by Airbnb and not whatever insurance the homeowner holds. It's either No or Maybe/Depends according to the response from customer service when I had the bad luck to have to show proof of insurance to the CHP, and there was only the registration in the glove box (eerily, not one other thing. Not all cars are so unused). It was more or less a "Sorry, here's $50 off yr next trip" type of engagement from the further communication in response to my indignant follow up, after a good/average roadside assistance experience, so I'm still not sure. I know lawyerapproved support blurbs when I see them. If I have to cover my family separately somehow just to be safe, kind of rules out fun trips with the kids. Or even routine stuff like getting kid0 to their soccer game. 😒🤨☹️

Avoid at all costs.. I had the WORST experience with Getaround. First, the car I rented was locked in a garage and inaccessible at the time my rental started. I was on my way to a bike race outside of the city and had a firm start time. Because of this I had to quickly try to find a different car which ended up being more expensive and not having designated parking. I spent $30 in Ubers getting around to the new car because there wasn't one one by. I was late to my race and incredibly stressed out. Upon returning to the city, I had to find street parking since the only other available car didn't have a spot. It's fleet week in San Francisco. There were NO SPOTS. I had to pay extra just to keep driving around to find a spot. When I was dropping my bike off and getting ready to find a spot for the car it refused to start again. This blocked the garage of my landlord who was actively trying to leave. Then the lock aspect of the app wouldn't work. This whole ordeal was incredibly stressful, added 2 extra hours and at least $50 to my day. Terrible experience that I feel compelled to share. To top it off they wanted to give me a $10 credit which didn't even cover the extra gas the other car required.

CUSTOMER SERVICE. This app was ok. Until I experienced an incident when I purchased a vehicle. They didn’t have car at the location. Made me walk to another location for another car. The second vehicle had zero GAS. The third vehicle was okay until the end of my last ride. A beeping kept going with customers in the car making it very unpleasant. Getaround promised to compensate the inconvenience by mirroring my exact hours for the next day. The day I go to pick up the car, I realize again. The vehicle is not there. When I called, they said they can’t tell me why my account is shut down. Security reasons, please resend your ID. I do and since I recently got a new license they went off of that issued date and said I haven’t been driving long enough so that’s the reason. I submit my older license (always keep receipts) I have been driving over 10 years. Then they say, your account is forever deactivated. We cannot tell you why. Try another ride share service. So I downloaded Hyre : I am also a veteran and a very hard worker. They also sent me an email for a refund of 93$ and only sent 23$.

4 hours of horrible service. The app allowed me to book a car that was 120 miles away from its intended location. I took an Uber to the car which cost me money. Get around support took nearly 1 hour to finally get me another car. I paid another Uber to that car. Finally get in 2 hours later and get to the parking gate. The owner of the car was $54 delinquent with parking fees. I call support and they hang up on me twice. I reluctantly paid because it was now 2 am and I am tired. I get about 30 mins into the trip and my girlfriend discovers the car is also unregistered. I become very frustrated at this point. 2.5 hours of wasted time later I call support again. They continue to not know how to properly handle the situation and hang up multiple times. Finally 4 hours later at 4am, the situation is resolved. Get around gets away with a $14 prorate refund, for 4 hours of my time wasted on my thanksgiving trip. The app is great when the cars are ok, but don’t expect good service when things go wrong. My advise to get around, do what’s right when things go wrong, don’t screw the customers.

Awful and dangerous experiences. I have rented two cars from get around and both had system malfunctions. The first one had a braking problem and the second had a dead battery. Besides the point that they should be screening their cars this wasn’t even the biggest problem I had. I can understand faulty cars but when there is a faulty car and you need to get somewhere their customer service should be available to help and those renting their car should be on standby. Neither of these things are true. The customer service is never available and I was left in the rain not being able to lock the car with the dead battery at 11 pm waiting to get put off hold for over an hour. Then when I left because it was dangerous and late they finally picked up my call and had the audacity to fine me for leaving the car. There was nowhere in the terms and service of their website that explained what to do in this situation but apparently I was supposed to assume that I had to wait with the car for four hours for a battery (that was not my fault that it died) to be fixed. This company is so terrible. I never write reviews but if I can prevent just one person from the horrendous experiences that I have had then I will consider this worth while.

Terrible service with zero customer support. The first car I try to rent on this app was a Toyota Camry. So I book the car enter my information and get charged. Only a minute or two later the owner of the vehicle texts me saying “somebody already booked the car.” Being new to the app I have no idea how this is possible or what the logical next step is. The owner then tries to get me to rent out his Mercedes for an extra $200 dollars. After saying if the price was the same I would he tries to upsell me a few other cars he rents out. After multiple refusals because I’m was looking for a modest Sudan not a luxury hunk of metal. He tries to get me to cancel the car. I’m suspicious of this why it had to be when it was his fault so I refuse. Now apparently I won’t get a refund from HIS cancelation for up to 72 hours as if the guy who didn’t want to pay an extra $200 has an extra $300 to rent a new car in the timeframe that I needed. The customer service is non existent you have to jump through so many hoops and questions just to send a lousy email to someone. Nobody to call. Will not be using the app again and will warn others to stay away.

Consistent App or Service Problems. The app and service deserve only three out of five stars because there is always an issue with the app itself or the service model of borrowing cars from irresponsible individual owners. Every time I’ve used this app to rent a car I’ve experienced major problems. I’ve experienced issues unlocking the car through the application - the buttons and interface simply wouldn’t work. There are also frequent connectivity issues and customer support has confirmed this. Other times, the cars I’ve rented had serious exterior damage such as smashed in bumpers, smashed headlights, and missing rearview mirrors, or severe interior damage. In all instances, I’ve had to clean the car and once I’ve had to cover the seats in plastic because the fabric was horribly and disgustingly stained. I give this app three stars because it is half the price of Enterprise and other big car rental agencies if you book far enough in advance. I’m hopeful that Getaround can raise the standard of renting cars through mobile applications.

I'm very impressed with this App!. I just recently got a car from GetAround Miami and my experience was bittersweet - the first vehicle that I reserved was a Grand Cherokee Jeep - but it was not located where I was told to pick it up! I had about 15 small boxes to load into the vehicle - but it was nowhere to be found! I was then connected to an F-150 but it was located 35 miles away from my Downtown Miami location. Due to this mix-up - I was upgraded to a BMW X1 that was located near and it worked out just fine. The problem is this - while I traveled to the X1 - just 10 minutes away from my location - random and homeless street people rummaged through my unattended boxes and belongings and stole much of my stuff! My experience with the rider support team was beyond excellent. They are attentive and do everything to set things right. The other MAJOR problem was that my first car of choice was a vehicle priced at $42 - the vehicle that I ultimately drove was $81 dollars. I'm hoping that GetAround will credit and adjust by costs and refund over $350 - by overcharging me for the use of a vehicle that I did NOT want - the price was double my budget! Overall- my experience was great with the exception of being charged 2x more than what I wanted to pay. The BMW X1 was just amazing. The host - Jonathan was also great! I'm assuming that my overpayments will be credited back to me ASAP. THE app works great and the vehicle is a pleasure to drive. Mott Kornicki

Lot of issues. I’m out of town for a friends birthday. I was going to rent a car through Turo but a friend told me about “this” app that you can rent cars by the hour and since I only needed the car for 8 hours I figured I would give it a shot. Booked the car the night before with no issues. Today the owner text me a hour before my pickup time saying the car is unavailable with no explanation and tells me I need to cancel my booking through the app. I tried to cancel but it was going to charge me half the rental cost so I had to contact customer service which you have to submit a request through email before you can call to speak with someone. Customer service issued my full refund but takes 3-7 days to return. On top of that they charged me twice for the rental and the $150 deposit. Not a big deal since both are being returned but seems to be a lot of issues that they need to smooth out. Love the idea of the app but now I’m having to go back to the airport to grab a rental last minute since they canceled mine a hour before pickup and had no other available vehicles.

DO NOT USE. The car it’s self was perfect! I would rate this zero stars because of the company itself. We arrived at the car and it wouldn’t unlock. After calling customer service they suggested we cancel the trip, leaving two young girls stranded out of town in the apartment complex parking lot in the middle of the night in a strange city. We then had to Uber to a hotel nearby and pay to stay the night then Uber back to the car in the am. In the morning I talked to customer service who said the car was unlocked but had been moved to a different address, so I Uber to the new address only to find the car not there. I call the host and they explain the car is at the original address so we Uber back to the car original address and are finally able to get into the car and get on with our trip. We lost an entire day of our trip and had to pay for a hotel room rental and extra Ubers. When I explained all this to customer service the best they could do is compensate me $15 for this HUGE inconvenience. This was my first and last time using this app. I am extremely disappointed with how I was treated and the overall experience.

Nifty Service, so-so App experience. Been a regular user of this service and am a big fan. There are a lot of vehicle options in Chicago area. The ability to access a car at any hour of the day/night is fantastic; much more useful than the traditional car rental service. Not thrilled with the rental-end-of-trip experience as the App process is very inconsistent. The experience is pretty good when ending your trip early. You get to record your fuel level (handy because recently most of my rentals have not had a full tank at the beginning). When ending your trip at the end of your rental, the App navigation is crap. It doesn’t present the same end-of-trip options. Lastly, the App should let me rate my trip when I end my trip. But, no, it asks me to rate my last trip the next time I use the app—sometimes weeks or months later. Make the trip end process consistent every time. Let the renter rate the car at that moment. And provide the renter the option to get credit if they actually fill up the car even though the car was not full at the beginning of the trip; this last feature would allow the rental community to improve the experience for everybody, other renters and even the car owners.

Useless. I tried several times to rent a car and I couldn’t get it to book one. I had correct DL# and credit card etc. Just keep getting error. We’re over 25 and have insurance and good driving record. My husband tried to sign up as well and it still wouldn’t work. I contacted support and they said I needed to take a pic of my license... well the app doesn’t let me. And then they wanted me to send a selfie with my license? What the heck? I didn’t like how it needs to be connected to your Facebook friends. What personal info are they selling? I also didn’t like how you had to log in through only Apple Pay, Facebook, or google. You can’t just create your own log in. Annoying. If it weren’t for the many thousands of reviews I would think this is a scam. Still suspicious and deleting app. I was desperate at the time for a car since I waited till last minute and there were literally no cars to rent with typical rental car places, nor even Turo. Never ended up getting a car. Turned into an expensive week with Ubers, trains, and taxis when ride share apps unavailable.

Great Customer Service. Buut, you get what you pay for. If you would like to spend the first 10 minutes of your paid time inspecting the car and looking for all the “great” things people leave behind then this app is for you. It would be nice if getaround offered at least 10 minutes free to inspect the car inside and out since it is a job to do that for them. I won’t be using this service again. The first car I tried using was stained all over the rear passenger seats and driver seats, some nasty mystery stains going on there. I feel sorry for whoever car that is. Second car I tried was alright. Wasn’t a fan of having some ones lotion all over my hands, would suggest bringing your own disinfection wipes, and possibly a nice blanket to throw in the back to hide the stains that are most likely to be there. Two more and I’ll stop. Cords to charge and connect phone were not working, I would suggest brining your own. Also the correct placards to gain access were missing. I’m glad I only booked an hour before trying this platform I would suggest the same to see if it is for you.

Great service difficult customer service. I appreciate being able to rent a car daily to get around.... however... it is EXTREMELY difficult to get in touch with customer service to retrieve forgotten items or to address other concerns if you are not in an active trip... if a customer ends a trip early Gataround should at least make customer service available to them for the remainder of the booked time since they do not prorate trips...also.... the “unlock the car I have forgotten something” feature isn’t actually useable... you are never able to actually click it... I have had to rent a car again just to simply retrieve something I have dropped. Also, when customer service leaves you a voice message and tells you to call them back while not in an active ride..... you can’t.

Worse Service!! Do not use!!. I’m an Uber/Lyft driver who had no choice but to rent a vehicle while my personal vehicle is out of service. I rented thru the Lyft Hertz program and was getting straight up robbed of my money and Lyft earnings. So I got approved to rent through the Uber program and figured I would return the Hertz rental and rent a GetAround vehicle. Assuming since Uber has a rigorous approval system that you have to wait 2 weeks for, once given the green light, thought I would be all set to pick up a car rental like with Hertz. Well I was wrong. I am not on a full 7 days stuck with no vehicle because of GetArounds absolutely HORRIBLE customer service, lack of knowledge, no communication or way to reach “other” departments, and never getting replies back from the emails. This company is the most UNPROFESSIONAL I’ve dealt with. And now I’ve lost hours of my time, a whole weeks pay because of them and most importantly my patience & sanity! Ugh.

The worst. With my first rental, i was charged $150 cleaning fee for spilling a tiny bit of ice water on the driver side seat. With my current rental, I emailed get around directly to extend my rental till the end of the next day. I work as a bartender & my shift the night before exhausted me to the point of needing to fall straight to sleep. I did not hear anything for hours, i could not extend with this glitchy broken app from my end.. until i was told that i would be incurring a late fee after being ignored by get around via email. When i recieved this second vehicle i could not take pictures of the interior and exterior, so i could not start my order. It was done manually through get around app after days of waiting. When i realzed I would not be able to return the vehicle on time I reached out, just to be ignored for hours. My rental would have cost less than a hundred dollars to be extended for 11 hours but this crooked companu has justified charging me $500 within that window. I’m immediately reporting these people to bbb. Do not, and i repeat, do not, trust these people with your credit card or debit card on file!

A customer for over 4 years and had enough of their poor user experience. Getaround has been our go-to option during the pandemic. It has worked well since we can remain socially distant and there are a lot of vehicle options around our neighborhood. Unfortunately their user experience on a few rides have sullied my trust for this company and will no longer be receiving my business and I implore for you to do the same as well. On several occasions I have rented a car through their app only to find upon arrival the car MISSING. We would walk up and down all four directions to check with no luck. We would then have to call and be put on hold and have to speak with a representative for over 30 minutes to get reimbursed. All my plans for the day have basically been ruined from the lack of promptness necessary for them to remedy a COMMON issue. We got our money back and some credit but we’re not going to subjugate ourselves to their poor business practices anymore. Don’t tell us you have a car at a location and not have it at the location. Getaround has lost us as customers and I’m filing a complaint to the BBB for their inaccurate app experience.

Bad Car and Cleanliness. To whom it may concern, I was just going through my emails and received a very disappointing email about my account being deactivated and I am just trying to understand why? Your app has great potential but there are a few things I would love to point out to better improve the experience. My rental experience was not very great and if this is an issue with the lister of the vehicle I want you to know that this experience has made me appalled at some the of vehicles listed on your site and the inexcusable shape these vehicles are in for paying customers like I get to ride around in. Since when do cars come with old French fries under your seat. Not a great start to a trip but not the biggest of issues. Now to begin i received the vehicle with about 67% left in the tank. Since when are full tanks not the standard. I ended up returning the vehicle with a fuller tank than I received it as well so again not a great start. Second I was charged with a late fee for being 10 minutes late in drop off. Which just added insult to injury and I don’t feel like that is a justifiable charge. I can add more details about the scratches in the outside and smell of the inside but I will not get in to that. All I am is asking for it to be waived as $50 is quite aggressive during these times I feel like feels right. Hope you understand where my frustration is coming from and that you can work on a better user experience. Sincerely, A valued customer

Requires Facebook login and info. I've had generally positive experiences with renting cars from Getaround, but I've always been troubled and confused as to why the app *requires* login via Facebook. And in the last few days, Getaround not only requires that Facebook share your email with them (which isn't unreasonable, though I'd prefer a normal email/password login to begin with rather than going through Facebook), they also require that you share your list of friends who have also connected with Getaround. This is frankly ridiculous and completely and utterly unnecessary, and severaly erodes my trust in Getaround as a Company. Of course, Facebook has all this information out me already, but at least Facebook is open about the fact that they're tracking me to sell me targeted ads. On the other hand, Getaround has literally zero reason to know who my friends are, unless they're trying to become spyware or sellers of personal data (which I'm sure they have a lot of, given that the cars have GPS trackers). I've enjoyed my time using Getaround but I'll be switching to Turo ASAP. Thanks for the good times ✌️

Don’t rent from them. I have spent more than a couple thousand on rentals with them in less than 2 months then last week when I was trying to to rent for another week which would make it my 3rd week they told me they stopped doing the weekly rentals to stop the spread of the corona virus which was bs it was just to charge people by the hour so they can make more they don’t care about the virus if they did they would just stop renting period so then they told me I could only rent it for 3 more days i only got it for one $76 so I could just take it back but then somethings came up and I need it for 2 more $140 paid it then they let me do it for a another day and another one and I did that because when I asked them when I would get my security deposit they said about a week which is to long since I have no income at the moment got laid off temporarily and government assistance is taking so long to come and then yesterday I had my daughters with me no one to watch them and I can’t take them out with virus rapidly spreading and no one to watch them and to come back on the bus with them from downtown LA to Inglewood so like I said they don’t care about there customers if you want to see for yourself go ahead i only did because I was tired of getting denied because of my bad credit

Horrible Response Time and Lack of Resolution. If you are attempting to reach a Getaround representative, good luck! They take days to respond to emails. The only time you can make contact with a live person is during a trip at which time it is too late if your concern is prior to the trip. I recently had an account breach with Facebook, which is connected to my Getaround account as required. I received a citation fee from Getaround that was received on a date I did not rent any cars from them. This is a clear indicator that they have the wrong account and need to look into this matter. In fact, my time card at work will prove I did not use a car. After at least 10 emails requesting help with this, it still has not been addressed. Out of at least 10 emails, the 4 responses I received which took more than a month to get, the reps that responded do not seem to understand or willing to investigate. They have left the concern unresolved. Be cautious because they charge you hastily and immediately and getting a refund will not be easy.

Every problem, every time, they got it wrong. Rented a car in October. Transmission failed mid trip. They had not been monitoring the car to notice the transmission had been slipping leaving me and my family in an unsafe car. Luckily we were able to pull over at a local park when transmission failed. Waited two hours for getaround to send tow before leaving car as rainstorm hit thanks to friend taking us to dry location. Tow truck company and getaround argues for hours back and forth about where to take car and making me the middle man for this - tow company couldn’t even contact getaround directly and had to ask me for the number. We took a Lyft home. Numerous calls with getaround and waiting on different divisions that don’t speak to each other to resolve and I still not only haven’t been refunded yet for car or Lyft but they just sent me an email asking why I stopped my credit card from allowing me to charge them for future payments because they just tried to charge me $8.50 for the tolls. When you let a customer like this experience this level of i attention, you get this kind of review. For every happy customer, how many of me are there? Get your act together!

Use Turo if you need a reliable vehicle. I want to love this app. I do a lot of traveling for work and some experiences with Getaround have worked out. However I now have had multiple bookings cancelled day-of without any explanation or help from customer service, and I have also had a car break down and not start up and need to be towed from another state (and I was stuck, and left on my own without help or reimbursement from Getaround for another rental). Said car that broke down during my rental was one of the jankiest vehicles I’ve never seen, check engine light was on and there was a sign that said “DO NOT REMOVE KEYS FROM IGNITION!” - which was NOT okay because I had expensive gear in the car on my way to a job. They clearly do not inspect or screen cars on this app. You get what you pay for. If you need a reliable car to get to work, use Turo. This app can work, but do not rely on your Getaround bookings if you really need the car. Additionally, months ago, I had thought it may work well to rent my own car out in this app while I am traveling! I submitted my info on Getaround’s site and was told a representative would reach out to complete the process. I never heard anything at all. This app has potential, but is not reliable.

Terrible. This app is an atrocious user experience. Wasted an hour trying to get it working on both mobile and desktop. Getting sent in circles - verifications not verifying, photos of licenses and passports not sending correct info. I’m out.

Easy to use with a noble objective for a cleaner world!. Great interface. Wish they will get to this part of the world soon!

Don’t bother. Genuinely the most complicated way to book a car. Don’t fall for the cheap fees. The complication of it all is not worth the hassle.

Smooth as silk.. What a great simple app for an awesome service!

Issues with credit card. Could not get any credit card to be accepted on app. I have tried 4 different cards including my wife’s and none work.

Of course I love this app.. New version is rebuilt and much cleaner. Give it a go. Super cool experience renting a car from someone nearby.

Login issues. One tap facebook signon is suppose to register via your acct, thats the purpose of it. Once logged in via facebook and i created an account it didnt take my zip code and wouldnt let me get around it. Major bugs for a large app like this.

Beautiful. Great app.! Informative, very user-friendly and very robust. Smooth to navigate. Love car location maps and the filters!

Brilliant concept. This is the future.

Amazing app love it!. Great for visiting SF! Come to Canada now!

Don’t bother with this app in Canada. Downloaded it in Canadian App Store and will not accept a postal code, only zip codes. I don’t see why it isn’t available in Canada

Great APP!. Great APP! I expected nothing less from the team at GetAround.

Great app. Great app, it's exactly what I need it to be and is seamless, very similar to the web experience but fine tuned for the iPhone. Can't wait for more cities to get launched.

Thing of nightmare. Worst service app bar none by a landslide. Renting from traditional car rental places now, less convenient but saves ocean of headaches.

The future. Getaround is, quite simply, the future. Between ease of use, awesome innovation with the carkit and awesome customer support, I can't wait until there are multiple Getaround cars on every block in every city in the world.

Sadly disappointing. Haven’t even rented a car and the app is already giving me signs of hindering functions. Like only having the option to select certain places in the U.S

Car Enthusiast. Great app! Very easy to navigate through the map to find what your looking for! Well done! Please bring to Canada!!

Very good!. Great App!! Looks good, works well and easy to navigate!

Super awesome, very reliable!!. Was overly excited when I unlocked my rental car with my phone and was able to get in and drive away! No complaints - A+

Amazing App. Very user friendly and very functional

So many hidden fees. Brutal customer service. Was forced to chargeback some bogus fees after getaround refused to help

What an app and what a company?. I absolutely love getaround, it saved me from tremendous hassle for so long and their support team is outstanding. Some of the best customer service and best cars! Definitely 5 stars!

Great way to rent cars!. Great company! I installed the app and rented a car almost instantly for a trip up to Napa while visiting friends in San Francisco!

horrendous registration. may the devs burn in hell for the hours of time people waste trying to register in this app - my eyelids are in pain from the requested “double blink” which is supposed to be a trigger to shoot a selfie... sure enough, the app is so dumb I spent 10 minutes pointing it at my face with no result...

Bad. Very bad app. It forces the user to log in through Facebook, Google or Apple. The other Getaround app, much like the website, imposes no such restriction, allowing the user to use an email account instead.

Great update. Wonderful app. Well thought out. Great service.

It’s 10x easier to rent a car with GetAround than with alternatives. GetAround is also cheaper than uber if you use a car for a few trips in a short period of time.

Was a good app till it wasn’t. I really enjoyed the app at first. The cars we got were, for the most part, nice. Then the quality of the cars and app started going downhill. Got to one car one day and the app wouldn’t connect to the car, only to find out the car was owned by a rental company who had rented out privately even though I had reserved it. Then I rented on another day and the car’s battery died after only driving for 1 mile. Couldn’t get a hold of any customer service or the cars owner. Finally someone contacted me after I was stranded for a bit. Then rented another car. It went well. Dropped the car off and ended the trip. 2 days letter I get an email saying I dropped the car off damaged which is complete crap. Sent them the photos with proof that there was no damaged and they still insisted there was. They even went as far as suspending my account

Beware of scams. I was loving this app, but within the past few months the same 2 guys own all the cars within a mile radius of me. Thought that was odd but still rented a car since I needed one for work. Took good photos and details of everything because the car was pretty dirty inside and out. Even left a review afterwards saying the cleanliness was unsatisfactory. Ended up getting charged a $100 cleaning fee even after documenting everything I could. I get there’s little the app can do if the driver claims this, drivers need to be protected too. I just wish I could go back in and write a review of the owner to warn others to be very diligent of renting. I also wish you could view other reviews more easily in the app, they never work when I click on them. Also just wish renters were a little more protected. $100 fee so easily charged is scary to me.

Beware: Scammers on this app. This is my 3rd time using the app. Didn’t have trouble before this incident. This time, I attempted to book a trip w the owner of a Tesla, and I received a message that my time overlaps with another trip for this host. It seemed the booking did not go through. I did not receive confirmation. Yet, when the proposed time slot that was requested came, my card was charged! I was not notified that the trip was confirmed until the requested time of a booking that never went through on my end. Either this is an app malfunction, or the host is a complete scum scammer. This experience resulted in me having to cancel my plans, cc, and I am still waiting on my new cc. Such trash UX and an awful inconvenience for me and my family who were looking forward to taking a short day trip upstate in a Tesla. -10 out of 10 …Beware of the scammers! And you can’t leave a review for them which would call for more accountability… Trash UX, trash app!

Horrible Customer Service; No one knows what they’re doing. I got a flat tire during a trip while renting a car for the Drive with Uber program. I was driving on the freeway with a passenger when I heard a weird sound, so I pulled off the freeway and there it was, a flat. Unless driving and doing Uber puts me at fault, there’s no way I could’ve caused a flat tire; however, Getaround has to “investigate” to determine what happened. Now I cannot rent another car or do Uber or make money. And to make matters worse, no one I call there knows absolutely anything because it’s a claim department. A department for which they have no contact info for or ability to communicate with. They said they would annotate my account and ask them to update me, and it never happened. Called 3 days later and was told the same thing! Also, they email you telling you they’ll contact you soon to resolve any issues you have, but then will just send another email a couple days later saying the issue has been resolved! Horrible service. Cars for Uber are ALWAYS dirty (inside and/or out!)

Dangerous cars, terrible customer service. I cannot emphasize enough that you should not rent from this company. They rent out dangerous vehicles, provide no substantive customer service, and up charge you with fees. The vehicle we rented was badly damaged and had clearly been in an accident, with front passenger side completely repaired with bondo and badly repainted. The alarm kept going off randomly. By the far the worst of all, the accelerator got stuck on the floor at one point, so that we were flying at maximum speed down the highway with no way to stop. I somehow managed to get my toe under the pedal and yank it back into position, but my life and those of 5 of my friends were seriously endangered. I tried reporting this incident and honestly, I’m not sure I ever talked to anything but bots. They kept assuring me they work with hosts to ensure safe vehicles (not remotely true) but wouldn’t address any of my specific concerns. After weeks of repetitive back and forth, they offered me 20% off a future rental. They never addressed my experience or assured me the vehicle was taken out of rotation. They also have a lot of fine print charges, including a mileage overage fee that ultimately makes the rental more expensive than a traditional one. Do not rent from this company. Go somewhere reputable.

Worst experience ever!. I rented an SUV to move some artwork. I only needed the car for a few hours so I thought this would be a less expensive alternative to Enterprise. What a mistake! The car was filthy! Crumbs everywhere, stained seats, and it reeked of cologne. When the trip was done I went to return the car to where I picked it up but there was no parking. I drove around for half an hour before finding a spot that was several blocks away from the drop off. I texted the owner of the vehicle to let them know where the car was and they said okay. So I ended the trip and locked the car and went home. I wake up to a call from Getaround at 4am telling me the car hadn’t been returned properly. I explained that there wasn’t parking and I told the owner who was fine with it. Getaround just kept insisting that I didn’t return the car and that I would be charged until the car was returned!!! At this point I didn’t even have the keys anymore and I had no way of moving the car. The whole thing was ridiculous! I convinced Getaround to read the text messages between me and the car owner, and then they admitted that I didn’t do anything wrong. But they still over charged me and I’m still waiting for the charges to be reversed... and I’m still get automated message saying I haven’t returned the car! Worst experience. I will GLADLY pay Enterprise more money for their services in the future!

Loved it!. I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews. They should be more reserved for leaving a review on the actual car they rented or the owner of the car. The app does what it supposed to. I had a great experience. With the car and the app. The app itself could use some improvements but the service is great! I work remotely. So I don’t need a car. Maybe every once in a while. Traditional car rental places are such a rip off. This is such a better option and so happy there is something like this. If I need to run to the store I use Uber or Lyft. But for a weekend I know I’m going to need a car, this site is great! I also went camping and needed a bigger vehicle. Again, this app was perfect!

Great App, Terrible Customer Service. Getaround is really easy to use and way more convenient than renting out a car. The tradeoff is horrific, nonexistent customer service. You get someone new each time and they'll tell you the prior call never happened. When I did my first ride, I got charged an extra $50 for a few hours rental and went back and forth with customer service for two weeks before I got $20 back and called the rest a loss. I wish I had gotten a uhaul instead. I don't recommend this app until they fix the people-facing side. At least other rental companies are straightforward and you know exactly what you're paying for. Every time I so much as hear the words getaround, I'm now filled with rage and anxiety. The app itself is fine, no complaints.

Never again. Deleting the app and ever coming back. Recently got in a car crash and broke my face and jaw. Had to get surgery and car was totaled. So as you know I’m already stressed. Decide to get a rental car from here and they straight f*#ke* me over. Paid for 12 hours. From 7am to 7pm and was allowed 200 miles. Almost hit that 200 and that night I decide to pay for another 12 hours but only was granted an extra 15 miles. So pretty much paid for 12 hours just to be able to drop the car off in morning. I called and complained and they seriously offered me a $5 voucher thinking that would make me feel better. You guys pretty much robbed me of $80. And I know what they are going to say. “Well if you read the policy it states that… blah blah blah “ I don’t care what it says. Listen to what I just paid for and tell me how does that make since. A company that is fine with screwing people over gets zero respect from me.

Car rent. Overall I was satisfied, but they have issues. The car I had didn’t have the regular maintenance done, and was saying on the dashboard maintenance required all the time. Had some body damaged. I rented a second vehicle, they canceled it because someone had an accident the night before, just wasted 30 minutes walking around. I rented a third one and I didn’t take it because had a flat tire and the other rear wheel had a (donut) tire mounted. There’s no option to cancel or refuse to take the car, they’ll charge you anyway, maybe few days later they’ll give the refund. The help center does not work. I’ve been waiting for almost a week for the response. But the price you pay for it is awesome very worth it, as long as you get the right car! Good luck 🍀 😉

New Getaround needs to Get out of here. Since Getaround changed their booking system to strongly prioritize their profits, it is now the most frustrating car rental app out there. You can’t tell how much the car will actually cost upfront anymore! While insurance and fees use to be included in the price as your browsed vehicles, none of that is included anymore. General insurance is no longer really covering you (if you are in possession of vehicle when even a $10 damage to vehicle happens you have to pay a $1000 fee to Getaround, unless you have paid another separate insurance fee on top of the rental fee and booking fee). Getaround use to be my number one car rental app ( I rent cars about 40% of the month), but they are loosing my business to Turo, Lyft rentals, even Gig... all of these companies now have better value and functionality than Getaround does.

Scammmmmm. I used them 2 times the first time, the car would not unlock so i had my reservation switched to another car almost 3 miles away, after that issue all went well, my second and final rental was a nightmare, i rented the car and returned it to then be charged $100 cleaning fee 3 weeks later , because i couldnt report it when i rented the car, poor lighting in the garage and the car was only accessible through the driver side because of how the lot parked the car, after taking the car and not noticing the mud patch or spill of some sort i was charged a cleaning fee of $100 but 3 weeks later smh. Now 4 weeks later im being charged $26 for $10 worth of tolls.. this company is a scam and will keep on exhausting funds even weeks down the line. I am disgusted with this company and service. My total trip was $289 for 8 hrs not including gas or tolls, $338 after the fact, even cleaning the persons freaking car for $100.

Truck rental. I was a little concerned about my first time using getaround, finding the truck, using the app, unlocking and starting the car... but everything clicked into place... it was so much easier than having to clean out the trunk of my own car or asking a friend to clean out their Subaru— also I knew it would be large enuf to carry the furniture piece without having to take measurements of the trunk opening to see if furniture would fit ok. There was plenty of room. Sure beats having to go across town to u-haul and dealing with all the paperwork. Using getaround is like having a friend with a truck, but not having to put them on the spot for helping me out, again. 👍👍👍

Horrible Customer Service. I have used this application two times. The first car I rented stalled and shut off during my trip. Get around only credited me $10 for a $40 trip and took 6 days to get back to me. They said the owner said the car was "fine" despite me submitting a photo of the dashboard that showed the lights that appeared about the engine when it stalled. The second time I booked, because I assumed the first time was a fluke, I booked a car for 10:45 am. While I was on my way to pick up the car, the trip was canceled at 10:28. Then, when I tried to book another car, I got a notification that my account was suspended (for no reason). On top of that, you can only contact help through an online platform. Who doesn't have a customer service phone number? I could not access help online due to the account being suspended and had to create a new account to submit my complaint. This is a horrible app that I will never use again and make sure that none of my family or friends do either.

Beware of Scammers!!!. Rented a family van returned the vehicle on a full tank. The employee was very rude and intentionally ignored me twice when I asked where should I park the van. I didn’t let it get to me though. After returning the vehicle, I received a bill over $250 for smoking in the vehicle. I DO NOT smoke nor does my mother and her sisters. The company took pics of a coffee cup that I left in the car and said it had ashes on it which is a lie. There were no ashes on the cup because no one in the vehicle smokes. They couldn’t provide any valid evidence that indicates smoking in the car. Even if they did find traces of smoking, it had to be one of the employees. I have the money to pay the bill, but I refuse to pay for a penalty fee that I shouldn’t have received. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to rent from this company. However, if u choose to do so, please cautious. Take pictures of the interior and exterior of the vehicle when u pick it up and return it. Be careful out there.

Improve UX. App keeps refreshing when trying to input info, always have to reset where you left off. Not a very smooth experience. Also not clear when it’s “thinking” after confirming extension of time. It doesn’t separate the booking fee from extension charge for EVERYTIME you extend. So, if you extend your rental for 15 minutes four times it’s an extra $4 (better to estimate if you need the whole hour instead). It is itemized on the final invoice post-rental. Also, what if you lock your phone in the car or runs out of power, there is no way to contact Getaround, only via the app during your rental period. They have hidden their help number. Once you do have a Rep on the phone, they are very understanding and helpful.

Regular renter. I'm a regular renter on getaround and it's a great app! The only thing I'd like for the company to change is the 15 minute increments for rentals. A couple of times, something went wrong in the app and I passed the increment by 1 minute and had to wait 15 minutes to get the car. It caused me to be late to my destination but nothing I could do. Also, if the car is available just a few minutes before, don't think it's a big deal if someone uses it a couple minutes prior. Another update that would be nice - and this has happened to me, if a previous renter has not returned the vehicle, it should be noted in the app; I was given a location, and then another location but the car wasn't there. Getaround was very helpful but it was very inconvenient and I was late again! Other than that, I think it's a great app and service!

Random Fees Charged After Trips. Getaround will charge you random fees that you have to notice. I got charged $50 for “return fee”. When I called to ask why, I was told it was because I didn’t turn the wheels. The return inspection pictures clearly showed that I turned the wheels so I asked them to take another look. Getaround support gets back to me and says I didn’t turn them enough. Enough? Really? Nowhere does Getaround specify what exact angle the cars wheels need to be turned. I turned them 45 degrees and had the parking brake on. But this wasn’t considered “enough” so I was arbitrarily charged $50. This wasn’t the first time I got mysteriously charged a fee, only to notice it in my bank charges later. Long time user of this service but unfortunately can’t risk using this service anymore because I can get arbitrarily charged any amount of money after the fact. Plenty of other similar services available with better customer service.

CUSTOMER SERVICE WENT DOWN THE DRAIN. Gonna try and keep this short and sweet so you don’t scroll past and still give this app a chance. I’ve used this app for many years. At first the customer service was amazing! They’d hear you out and tend to your complaints about cars you rent and the maintenance issues they had etc. NOW fast forward 3 years, they don’t even have a contact us (call button) or number to reach them in case of a situation that you need help with. Steer clear because when YOU NEED IT MOST THEY WONT BE THERE TO HELP. Trust me! The most frustrating thing is to not have your issues resolved AFTER spending a lot of money on a ride. Most renters don’t care about up keep anymore because of the lack of care THIS APP AND “AGENTS” have now towards customers. They only back up the people that rent out their cars. I mean how could they not those are their “employees” .Poor quality now. No standards! You rent crappy cars! Used to be great! They’re going down the drain now! And Getaround, please save me your automated carefree response, “this is such horrible news one of our agents will be in touch with you…” blah blah blah yeah right. No one contacts you anymore. It’s been 3 days since I sent a request… Edited based on their response down below: No where is that advertised that there are ONLY 2 and 4 hours windows to CALL support before or after a rental. Sad that there’s always an excuse from you guys that you hide. Hidden rules? Come on get real

If I could give it a negative 5 star I would.. This company is ridiculous. Don’t use this app. It’s a waste of time. Their process is very inconvenient. Their customer service reps are liars that do not actually do anything. There is some stupid ID user under investigation process that doesn’t make sense. You don’t know until you try to book that your account is fully verified and then it’s inconvenient because the verification doesn’t happen until you try to book but takes 48 hours. What is the point if I need it now. What kind of service is this? One of the worst apps. Don’t use please I repeat do not use this app. Also the customer service rep will pretend he is helping and leave you on hold for 40+ mins. Not solving any problems. I spoke with Arnoldo and another rep so if you get them beware. They won’t help. Also understand this they don’t email you about verification like other companies ahead of time. So your left in the dark when you make account thinking you can use the service when ever. This app is trash.

Useless. READ THE REVIEWS, NOT THE STARS!!!. I’ve seen 5 star reviews on reviews with terrible service. If you’re renting from Getaround, pay the extra & get a newer car. Getaround customer service is useless (not the agents fault). I rented a 2010 Kia Forte (only car available near me). The car died on me while I was driving. I pushed it to a safe parking spot. Getaround customer service wasn’t able to help me rent another car because I drove the car. After about an hour of being hung up on then sent from agent to agent nothing came of it. I asked the agent to just end me trip. Save yourself the hassle & get a car within 3-ish years of the year you’re renting. Also, the owners of the car will try to screw you. I’ve been charged for returning a car to another location just on the word of the owner. I called Getaround & explained that I was on the phone with am agent who confirmed that the car was returned back to its home location. I received my refund only after they reviewed the call. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

Good idea made unusable. On paper, the basic idea of Getaround is a great one for a city dweller who does not own a car like me. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be able to properly support their platform. I rented a car only to discover that the tires were somewhat flat. Nothing wrong with that - I understand it’s hard to keep close track of and it was a cold day. So I was re-booked and told that refunding the first trip would go through their claims department. Nothing wrong with that either, except the claims department simply never reached out. I contact customer service, they tell me claims will have to contact me and it goes in a loop. A perfectly understandable problem and perfectly polite customer service have nonetheless left me completely unsatisfied with their service. Who wants to pay to rent a car they didn’t drive? Given the option of other car-rental apps that are able to pay more attention to the condition of their vehicles, there’s no reason to take the risk in choosing Getaround.

Get your $#!* together, GetAround. In a word, unreliable. The car was no where to be seen — I even walked up 4 stories of a sort of close by parking garage just in case. It wasn’t there. The app didn’t specify any other details about the car’s location. Then, the app recommended only two other replacement cars, one of which was far too small and the other was 1.5 miles away which is a big mean joke. I tried to reach out to support for assistance, perhaps more alternative options, an extension on my rental time that wouldn’t come from my own pocket since the car wasn’t there, or a refund. I’ve been on hold for 45 minutes now, *just a little bit* longer than the estimated wait time listed in the app as “under a minute”. This wait time would be fine if my expectations weren’t set to be in contact with someone sooner. As much as I wanted this to work, this app definitely can’t be trusted especially if you’re trying to go anywhere important in any specific time frame.

Renters - watch out for $1,000+ damage fee!. I've used Getaround several times over the last few years. Usually pretty convenient and the prices are reasonable. Rented a car a week or so ago and it was damaged while parked in a lot. Someone scratched up the side of it while I was shopping and was nice enough to not leave a note. I immediately told the car owner and he says "no worries! Getaround has insurance". Yeah but here's the kicker - there's a $1,000 "damage fee" the renter is apparently responsible for. The robots in customer service tell me "fortunately, you only have to pay $1,000". Fortunately. Fortunately I *only* have to pay one THOUSAND dollars. So anyway, watch out. This is extremely deceptive pricing by the company. You can't advertise $35 for a day when the renter can be charged $1,000 (and I've heard other renters have been charged more for nicer cars). This is not a sustainable business people. You need to get better insurance OR inform renters every time they rent, before they rent clearly what their liability will be for that particular vehicle.

I mean ...I can’t really complain. Simple, Easy. Not sure about all the negative reviews . I’m in the tri state area And so far this year 2021 I’ve had an ok experience with them . Warning , Booking fees are kinda high when rebooking . They can be a little more organized with ahead of timing warnings and inconveniences but usually works very quickly and will warn you of any inconvenience if you are not booking last minute. Customer service may take a few minutes to answer but they always call you right back . They always give you a chance to prove any charges that you don’t think you are responsible for so of course take pictures of EVERYTHING. As a 5 year old driver I’ve enjoyed the easy acesss locations , times and vehicles . The sign up process is definitely the easier best part. No hassles.

DO NOT USE THIS APP!. I got a car a month before leaving to Fort Lauderdale and i received a call 24 hours before my flight saying the car got into a accident. Then they gave us a new car free of charge then 10 hours before my flight i received a voicemail saying the new car has mechanical issues. And i can’t contact them via phone so i have to email them. so then i received a call 2 hours before my flight saying there system is showing error and that they can’t change it on there behalf and that i had to cancel it and they would give me a credit but i would have to pay the under age 25 fee and the deposit fee if i want to re book. So after going back and forth with the customer rep for over a hour i canceled it and had to pay extra money going into my trip to use a reliable car rental service. Never again am i renting a car from this app because i had too start off my trip without one and stress myself to find another one once i landed.

Needs more transparency/warning about verification. I downloaded the app the other day as I’m moving and making appointments while I’ve got reliable access to the car. My first impression was great, I almost instantly scanned my credentials and was verified — the whole system seemed to work flawlessly as I found the car, used it, then returned it. Then I go to book my second trip, having operated under the assumption it would be just as seamless the second time. Nope, without having been warned in advance, I needed to complete extra verification that could take 48 hours. Not only did I miss a number of appointments and waste half a day having anticipated car access, but the app requires a Big Brothery selfie (most likely a facial recognition scan). Honestly, it seemed like such a better option than Zip or other app rentals but now I’m not so sure. “I’m not mad, just disappointed.”

Absolute nightmare stay far away. Highly regret using this service! No car at promised reserved location. Contacted Getaround and was directed to walk in the brutal early morning cold of Boston to THREE different places until we found the car after the trip had already started. Same problem on return. NO RESERVED PARKING AT PROMISED LOCATION. No way of contacting Getaround app. Trip ended while looking for parking to drop the car. No way of locking the car via the Getaround app. Had to restart a trip with that same car for another hour to be able to lock it via the Getaround app. No refunding for All the extra charges. Multiple tickets submitted and no refunds to a horrible trip, ruined our day. CanNOT have worse customer service, calling at odd hours, as their CS is based in the Philippines, promising to call back to “resolve the issue” and never calling back at the promised time. Horrible service stay far far away!

I WANT to believe in Getaround but…. I really like the idea of this app but I have been trying to rent a car for like a few hours multiple times in the last few months and I have never been able to make my first booking. It’s always an app error, license issue or literally just no cars available. Additionally, the cars available and their reviews seem arbitrary like they are not even real. You don’t know anything about other people’s experiences with the car/host just an arbritrary number of “stars” and number “trips”. It seems suspicious. This company could do amazing things but it would start first by answering tickets and doing better at serving customer needs rather than just trying to grow explosively without really developing a quality product. Going back to Zipcar I guess.

Poor Service and glitchy. No service number to call if you’re having issues with a car, they just point you to the website and they can follow up with a response via email. Not ideal when you need a more immediate response. The app got stuck on the spinning circle when I submitted “end ride”. I had to reopen it, which showed the ride ended, but it said I needed to lock the keys in the car. The keys were already locked inside though. There was not an option to end ride or lock car. I spent 20 s by the car trying to figure this out but ended up just having to walk away and let the app end it for me. Hopefully I won’t get billed for it, would have been nice to have a number to call to explain my situation and have them lock the car/end the ride remotely.

PREPARE FOR A LAWSUIT‼️. Friday MAY 10th. Couldn’t even unlock the car when I was scheduled to pick it up. 5mins out of the driveway I had to stop at a pilot to get $31 HEADLIGHTS! On my way, in Tennessee THE TIRE FLEW OFF. GET AROUND DIDNT HAVE A SERVICE TRUCK AVAIL AND THE OWNER SAID HE COULDNT HELP! HAD TO FIND A FREAKING HOTEL IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE WITH MY FIVE YEAR OLD & PAY FOR A NEW TIRE THE FOLLOWING MORNING!!! FINALLY made it to my destination MONDAY. Were supposed to be here SUNDAY for Mother’s Day. Get here Monday don’t move the car and then Tuesday try to visit my moms grave and literally the battery light, the brake light, and the abs light all popped on at the same time, half way to my mothers gravesite, the steering gets tight and My family and I pull over, turn the car off and it never turns back on!!! IM STILL STUCK, LIKE WHEN YOU ALL SEE THIS FEEDBACK, KNOW THAT I AM STILL STUCK IN LOUISIANA AND MY FAMILY AND I ARE TO BE IN MASSACHUSETTS, WE LIVED IN A SHELTER APARTMENT AND HAVE NOW LOST THAT BECAUSE WE HAVENT BEEN THERE, NO ONE FROM CLAIMS IS CONTACTING ME BACK ABOUT MY REFUND OR REIMBURSEMENTS FOR THE LIGHTS TIRE AND HOTEL. ETC , ETC!! YOU ALL HAVE MOST DEFINITELY SCAMMED ME AND MY FAMILY AND WE ARE NOW PURSUING A CASE UPON “GETAROUND” inc. THANKS FOR THE PROBLEMS!!!

Scammy/ bad CS/ Terrible when you can’t find a place to return the car. I wanted to love it. In fact I liked this app when I was using it in a place that had dedicated parking but now I am done. 2xs I have had an irresponsible host that does not have the car in a place with reasonable parking available. When I tried to return the car there was absolutely nothing available. I searched for 30 min and even had to extend the session. Finally I found a spot but it was not good for a full 24 hrs. I communicated that to the host. They acknowledged it and said it was ok. But to my surprise they didn’t move the car and instead I got slapped with a $140 parking ticket?! So unfair and such a scam. Get around should crack down on hosts not having reasonable parking accommodations. Terrible. Might as well just get a real rental car. Ugh. If there isn’t dedicated parking, be prepared to spend 30 minutes looking for a spot to return the car. So inconvenient and probably some UDAAP in there somewhere.

This is a SCAM - STAY AWAY!!!. My first red flag was that after taking my drivers license, credit card, cell phone, email, and registering with my Apple ID they still required a Facebook account to “verify” my identity. Not sure how FB is able to do more than what I’d already provided. After not hearing back from customer service for several days, I started searching online. The App Store is the only place you’ll find anything over a 1 star review. It has been widely reported that this service will take money out of your bank account and falsify damages without notification. Don’t trust App Store reviews. Search online before using this service. Update: I got a faster response here from leaving a bad review than I did through opening a support ticket. I’ve been waiting over a week for them to delete my personal information. I’ve also spoken with the private contractors who rent out their fleet of cars through Getaround. They have admitted that this business is a total scam. ##!! Apple needs to review this company for fraud and data harvesting !!##

Horrible customer service, incorrectly charged and refund is STILL processing. I wanted to use this app to rent a car for one day. I tried to check out and received a failure message on the app. So I tried to check out a different car and got another failure message. I was then charged BOTH times. I have contacted Getaround, Stripe and Bank of America (my credit card issuing bank) to be refunded. Getaround claims that the refund was issued on November 1st and I should see it in 10 business days. 10 business days have gone by and I still do not see any sort of refund for either transaction. Never have I had a refund take this long. I find it embarassing on Getaround’s part that I was unable to checkout and was charged anyway. I had to reach out to Getaround myself to ensure that the charges were reversed and yet they still have not been reversed. Needless to say, I have deleted this app and will be sticking to Turo, which I’ve had no issues with and fantastic customer service.

No more live customer service phone number. Horrible 4hr long nightmare of trying to sign up for an account, waiting on hold numerous times with customer service, being hung up on, and dealing with people who couldn’t grasp the basic understanding of problem solving. No where does it say that setting up a new account takes up to 48 hours. In fact you get all the way through the purchase payment process and even complete filling out your account and authenticating your identity three different ways only to then receive a message that your booking won’t go through because it takes 48 hours to approve the new account. By midnight and several emails and phone calls later the dang thing was rush approved. HORRIBLY I then received an email saying that the telephone customer service is being discontinued!!!!!

Disappointed. They are racist. Rented my first car went through all the verification process. I was good to go and now that I was trying to rent my second car they put my account under investigation for no reason whatsoever and ask for pictures of all type of things like bank cards and etc. They already have my rounting number and account number to my back account. They already have picture of my driver license. Also logged i. With my google to verify. I was asked to verify my identity with my Facebook I also did that like come on what else are they going to ask for DNA samples to verify it’s really me. It was my first day driving with Uber and it’s partner Getaround which Im so disappointed with. Overall rating 0 stars

Great service (if you learn how to use it), app could improve. After having used it repeatedly, I have 2 big observations. 1. IT’S A FANTASTIC SERVICE After a string of bankruptcies, local bans etc its really helpful to have a fully-non-touch car rental service, that’s EXTREMELY economical. 1B. BUT.... While upfront prices are super competitive, they really gouge you on late fees & extensions. But as long as you remember to reserve for the full time you need it, it’ll be a great option for you! (Or in case you can’t plan your day to save your life - feel free to block it for 2x the duration you need) 2. APP IS USABLE, BUT CAN IMPROVE It’s a perfectly adequate app but doesn’t delight you. Couple of things that I felt would help smoothen the experience: + Add more filters under an advanced option - eg, pet friendly, CarPlay available, premium/non premium fuel + smoother search - if I search for cars and then click on one to see details, don’t redo the search when I come back to the list view. It makes it sooo much harder to browse through available cars + show prices in the map view + make it easier to see old receipts (too many clicks / navigation needed right now)

Everyone has a horror story. I initially loved this service. It’s a great concept and felt very convenient. Then the surprise fees started rolling in. Every single ride I booked came with an extra charge weeks later, for “fuel” (even though I had refilled the tank), for “cleaning” (even though I didn’t make a mess), toll fees ($2.50 PER booth, which ended up being like $20 total in addition to the regular toll charges), etc. At first I thought I was just having bad luck, then I started hearing from all my friends that the same charges had happened to them, again for no discernible reason. This service is basically the Spirit Airlines of car rentals. They entice you in with low cost then charge you tons of surprise fees for no reason. And messaging the customer service team is a Kafka-sequel nightmare where they gaslight you every step of the way. As much as I love the concept, I cannot recommend it after all the surprise fees and headaches.

Poor service. I signed up which seemed to be a straightforward process turned it a long drawn out process. I sign up enter drivers license at no time does it ask me to take a photo with my actual face . Just to take photo of drivers license front and barcode for scanning . Let’s me know I’m ok to book . I try to select a car but now I can’t. Reach out to customer service they look into it . Go into my profile now it says my profile has been approved but now they additional photos and another of my actual face , which is fine . I understand doing a check before obviously letting someone use service . I felt the way the process went for me was misleading . I submitted more photos and it went over 48hr process just to get told 4-5 days the end result in which I needed to then do a side by side . When my drivers license is current and insurance is up to date. Was a lot of back and forth which could’ve been avoided .

Garbage cars. In San Francisco, most cars I have rented are obviously owned by shady people / organizations that own several cars and do little to no maintenance on them. I have rented cars that are barely functional, cars that smell terrible, etc. I have waited 15 minutes sitting inside a rental waiting to get a text to unlock the lockbox with the key in it (this is not a feature of the app but rather an ridiculous requirement by the dicey owner of a stinky, beat-up van). I have called owners of vehicles for assistance and quickly realized that had never been in the garage the vehicle was parked in. I am currently stuck with an absurd and fradulent insurance claim made by yet another unscrupulous owner claiming a scrape on his bumper cost him $1500. Getaround no longer provides a means to leave reviews after the rental is over, probably because so many of the cars on the service are in such poor shape. I am tired of giving money to vehicle owners who are a half step above scammers. I am deleting the app and will never use it again. ☠️

Mostly Damaged cars, troubling customers, fake charges. Mostly damaged cars: you visit as many get around stops you need mostly all vehicles are damaged from outside and untidy. Smelling spilled coffee and sweat inside the cars Troubled customer: if you decide to book a good car which is mile away from you and end up finding defects(mostly happens) they just cancel the card by themselves and ask you to pick car for another spot which again miles away. No credits towards that or compensation. They give you discounts which you to use it within short timelines. It’s like pushing you to edges. Fake Fees: this app and the company exclusively charges “booking fees” stating Getaround operating costs. So weird that this booking fee changes per car it seems. After all the situations above plus the rude operators and vehicle owners they charge hefty booking fees for literally worst service.

Worst experience ever. I’ve only rented one vehicle with Getaround and I’m glad I’m never doing this again. So I reserve a car for 8 hours and to begin with the car has less than half a tank of gas when I get there. I take pictures just how the app ask me to and I call customer service to see how this is going to be settled. So I’m told to just fill up the tank at the end of the ride so I won’t be charged fuel and extra fees, no problem. 8 hours later I’m done for the day. I spent $45 of gas, (mind half the tank was already empty). I park the car thinking I will be reimbursed for the fuel that I didn’t use. Days pass and nothing. So I email customer service 5 days later and nothing. I emailed them again a few days later after my first attempt and still nothing. They are very strict with how you leave the car at the end of the day but not seem to care in which condition it is given to you.

Terrible company rent elsewhere. At first it seemed oh so great daily rental no hassle. But boy was I naive, first they hit me with a $45 charge for cleaning the rental when I wasn’t the one to dirty it in the first place their cars are just kept unmaintained and super filthy (1 car wash a month they expect you to wash it during YOUR PAID RENTAL TIME) after this incident I started taking pictures of every little detail . Now they’re saying I damaged a vehicle and are charging me 1000 when I’ve never been in a car accident in my life and have maintained a clean driving record for over 7 years; I have pictures of my pre inspection showing no damage on the vehicle and the pictures they sent me were sent to me an entire month after I rented and clearly are of a car crash!!!! I believe they’re finger pointing and chose me simply because I’m young. However i can afford and will get an attorney involved and will update everyone on the status just so they can know how terrible this company is.

Charging abusive fees from renters!. Be careful: GetAround is charging abusive fees from renters! I rented a GetAround in SF, California over the weekend and found the keys placed outside of the RF pouch, inside the lock box. I returned the car in the exact same condition leaving the keys exactly how I found them: outside of the RF pouch, inside the lock box. To my surprise, GetAround is charging me $50 (fifty dollars!) for returning the car with the keys outside of the pouch (exactly how I found them!). When I complained, they said that the previous driver committed the same mistake and was charged the same fee. Meaning: the problem wasn’t corrected (keys placed inside the pouch) tricking me and probably the next driver into paying 50 bucks - about 20% of the rental price. Aside from questioning why the F they should be inside a pouch if they are in the lock box, I am really frustrated because I returned the car in the exact same conditions I found it before. Customer service at the company is a joke, I recommend you stay away and just get Turo.

Getaround likes to give you the runaround. My son and I used this app and have come to regret it. We used it almost 2 months ago. It all seemed to be going well but when we went to pick up our rental we found out that the party that had been renting the car extended the rental and we were not informed. We spoke to customer service, they quickly set up another rental (more driving around to get there to pick it up) and we were told that it would be treated as a new rental and the original rental and deposit would be refunded to us. Well it’s been almost 2 months of going back and forth with them and still no refund. So not only did we waste an extra hour of our time going to pick up a car that was already rented out, but we were double charged and have not been refunded our money. So if you like to waste time and money, go ahead give it a try 😡

First and last time with Getaway. I was hoping to get the same quality as Zipcar but was sadly mistaken. First of all they don't pay for gas which I think they should since I am already paying for the car and a deposit. It's worse when the car you're given is a gas eater, has brake problems, and made unusual noise. The amount of times I had to fill the tank up was ludicrous. And to top it off the car battery DIED during my trip. I called customer service 3 separate times in a panic since I was STRANDED in the middle of nowhere and was hung up on one of the times. I was provided no help, no solution, no discount of some sort. I had to track down a tow truck company at 12 AM and after hours of waiting someone came to boost the car which I had to pay for. I don't understand why the company would put out cars to rent that are not up to par. Will be sticking will zipcar.

Cracked windshield. During my rental with Getaround unfortunately a rock hit the windshield and there was a huge crack. Thankfully I reported it and that part was somewhat okay. It just took persistency on my end to try and get ahold of someone. After that I brought the car back with no car wash because of the crack and then was charged $68 for not getting the car a car wash, and when I questioned how would I get the car a car wash with a huge crack…(when I first got ahold of customer service they wanted me to return the car right away because it was “dangerous” but I was 4 hours away in the mountains not driving the car stuck in the snow) but when I got ahold of customer service they told me I had to wash the entire car because the guy who rented me a car needed the car to be clean for the next rental ??? So ridiculous ? So instead of a warning of hey next time the windshield is cracked please drive through the wash because this is the first time I returned a car without cleaning the outside … I got charged $68! So be aware..

Nightmare experience. I went with a friend to pick up a car he booked. When the booking time came, the car was suddenly in a far away residential area. It cost $20 to take a taxi to it. Then, it didn’t open. We spent ages being shuffled between the host, the robot customer service called Greta (that we nicknamed Re-greta-ble, and multiple customer service reps who were all useless in resolving the problem. After over an hour, missing out on our entire planned vacation excursion for the day completely, and some sun burns from standing outside in the Hawaiian summer going over and over the car unlock protocols, all we had was an offer to compensate us with A 35 DOLLAR COUPON FOR THE NEXT TRIP. Getaround, there won’t be a next trip!! They didn’t even offer to compensate the additional $20 to return from the residential area to our lodging where the car was ORIGINALLY supposed to be. They did offer a $25 payment for the original taxi, but closed the ticket before paying it or letting us follow up. Generous! /s

Really bad first experience. It was my first experience and everything was very confusing. I took pictures of the car but not the fuel, which I didn’t know I had to do. I didn’t read the policy on Uber Drivers section because I didn’t think there was a separate policy for that. When I got the car there was less than a quarter of tank which I filled on my way to work and used it for Uber for 2/3 hours max. When I left the car back to its spot, the app notified me that the tank was empty and that they were going to charge me an extra fee. I called immediately and told them exactly what happened that day, and they said that is my responsibility no matter what. I don’t think is fair and if they are so serious about this policy, they should’ve billed the last person that used the car and make sure the car was filled. They are very good at charging you but not at refunding or responding.

First time experience is the last. The car smelled like urine or beer, mainly in the trunk. At least 1.5 hours troubleshooting with the check in and check out process - app needs major updating, instructions need to be updated too. Had to go back to the garage twice to close the app several times. I had already turned in key and couldn’t get back in the car to take photos of fuel, interior, and key. Attempted to contact getaround help center through chat, phone, and even trying to contact the host since it’s an option on the app. No response, except from the chat, and that was 6 minutes later. I sent photos of the car. No response back. There’s also an option to text the host. I attempted to message the host with photos. Message failed. Needless to say I will not recommend this service. The app should give the option to upload photo taken from phone and attach. Instead, you can only take photos in the app. If you toggle between apps, you have to start all over again.
