For anyone learning Thai. The depth of this app is amazing. In all honesty, from the get go it is a bit tricky to use. I have had it for probably over a year and I didn’t really appreciate it that much. My advice: dig around inside and fiddle around with things. There is so much functionality in here and the ability to break down ties script into each individual sounds is amazingly useful.

The best! Really and truly.. If you don't know a single word of Thai this app will get you through just about anything. The phrases that were added in the last update are invaluable. I can only imagine how useful this would be for a tourist. It's like having a translator with you. You can look things up and then let your phone speak Thai. You can have Thais speak to your phone and then read it in English. This is another invaluable tool because Thai is tonal and has many new sounds for English speakers that must be learned. I have lived in Thailand for 20 years and I am told that I speak very well but I will never reach 100%. Thai and English are too radically different, at least for me. Thai people tell me I am fluent but I use this app almost every month. Just browsing through it I learn new words and new ways to express ideas. Only issue I have is that it does not have all the vocabulary that I need. But I do not come across this issue too often. Also the app lets you suggest any words that it does not have. Hopefully my suggestions will be included in the next update. The vocabulary that is lacking is almost always high level language that I need for discussing things with doctors, lawyers, having philosophical or religious discussions and things like that which a tourist or newcomer to the language would not need. It is worth so much more than the price that they charge. You will not be disappointed!

The VERY BEST!. I have NEVER paid so much for an app, but this one is EASILY well worth it! TONS better than other apps! LOVE the off-line audio and highly thorough spelling explanation of each Thia word- including a break down of syllables and clear explanation of why certain tones apply. Search in English or Thai with a pop up Thai keyboard. Even those pesky sign fonts that are impossible to read while visiting Thailand are in this! REALLY love the extensive list of ALL vowel sounds, not just the basic ones. Wonderful transliteration for quick pronunciation. This is the very best app I’ve found to study and learn Thai.

Amazed. Thanks for the hard work. This app is not only extremely useful, it’s easy to use and in every detail practical, yet above and beyond in the work put in to create an app that’s so much more than just another dictionary. Next to a classroom or personal tutor this app is most useful. Also so useful in the classroom or on the streets of Thailand. Thanks!

works both ways. Are use this app to teach English to Thai people and for myself to learn Thai. A very excellent and powerful application highly recommended.

When’s the update?. This app is great!! Ready for an update!!

This is THE app. Just buy it. I’ve been here 16 years and I use it nearly daily. I have studied all of Benjawan’s books — she is the reason I can speak Thai. Thank you, Khun Benjawan 🙏🏼

Most comprehensive. This app is the most comprehensive listing of Thai/English translations I have found. I have been using it for 6 years now, and I am always pleased with it search tool. Highly recommend the investment if you need to use Thai and English language translations on a regular basis.

Absolutely the best!. Thai to English or English to Thai, this is the most comprehensive and easy to use, for beginners or advanced speakers. Many useful features as well.

Beware of update. Avoid this update. You will be disappointed with this new version. Cluttered, clumsy, klutzy and confusing. Not just an elegant, simple and easy to use dictionary anymore. Also if you had managed to not update and had continued to use the older, simpler, easier version, BEWARE of UPDATING to the new version of IOS. YOU WILL BE FORCED TO UPDATE to this newest, clumsy, cluttered, trying to be everything to everybody, ugly version. Phooey! Grade F.

the best ever. This app is the best dictionary and phrase usage there is. The audio is a major plus along with the written tone marks for the words. But for me the best ability is to see the words inside the word you are looking up. For example, "to travel" is made up of the combined words เดิน and ทาง to make a new word เดินทาง. This is very helpful in memorizing vocabulary.

Just about perfect; a delight to use. This is the friendliest, most thoughtfully designed language dictionary app I’ve used. It is packed with features to help with learning Thai, as well as features that make communication while learning much easier and less intimidating. The search by sound and explain spelling features are especially excellent. Extensive help pages explain every aspect of the app, speaking and reading Thai, and loads more. Totally worth the price. If you have any doubts, the app’s website is detailed and should leave you feeling confident. Highly recommended!

best app around!. very good app!

Great dictionary, OK value. This is probably the best Thai/English dictionary out there and there are a lot of nice features, but I’m not sure that it’s the right choice for everyone. I am happy to pay $25 for a premium app, but generally that means it should be a very good app. This one doesn’t support the iPhone X/XS/XR screens yet, even after more than a year since their release. It also has native female audio but not male, which means that there’s no good voice for male students to imitate or copy. That would be totally fine at a lower price point, but not at $25 in my opinion. I really want to give this app 5 stars but these flaws keep the score down for now. If you’re serious about Thai then you’ll still probably want to buy this app, but less serious learners should look at free alternatives.

Great. The best great program good people

Superb. Could use an update, but still great. If you're learning Thai buy this app. It's amazing how much attention and thought has gone into this. Also the Paiboon system if romanization is best in class. That being said, I wish the publisher would update a few things: * The "favorites" system seems to be an afterthought. There's no indication of an item is already favorited and duplicated are possible. It's but the useful feature it could be * iPhone X screen support Still though, this app earned 5 stars from me. Such a great resource for such a niche language.

Hands down, number one!. In my opinion, this is the best learning tool in one place you can find in an app. The dictionary is very complete, offering a native speaker for every word so you get the tone correct. You can search for a word in English or Thai. When you find the word you want, you can click on it to hear the sound spoken by a live native speaker in high quality recording, and also find the tone for every syllable. Even further, it gives you a breakdown for how it arrived at that tone for that syllable. Not to mention the extensive list of instructions for how to determine tones. It will even show you the words within a word! This is a great option in the Thai language, because I have discovered that many words have a root word. For example, the Thai word for water (nam) is found in the Thai word for gasoline, river, pond, washroom, etc. You can save your favorite words in specific folders; this is very handy for review. I love the list of complete vowels, and that you can click on each one to hear it's sound, and to see whether it is long or short, live or dead. I could go on for a long time about the benefits of this app, and all of the hard work that clearly went into it. Suffice it to say, I would pay $100 without a thought for this app. I think it's that good. I'm confident that if you take the short time to learn how to use this app to its full potential, it will be as close to your hand as a tape measure is to a carpenter.

Great app. Buy it, great app to use if you are learning Thai

Superb. I’ve started learning Thai and this dictionary is ideal for learners. Each word and sentence has audio. And the “words inside” feature helps users understand compound words. There are also a large number of model sentences that are perfect for learning conversational Thai.

Fantastic! Great Study Aid and User Friendly. I've been living in Thailand and taking basic Thai classes for a couple of months now. The classes are focused on spoken Thai, and I've been frustrated by a lot of the e-dictionaries and other apps that require Thai words to be entered in Thai script, which I can't read yet. The Talking Thai app allows me to search for words or phrases in three different ways - using the English word, the Thai word using a romanized script, or the Thai word using Thai script. It also allows me to create folders where I can store favorite words or phrases for later study. I have now done this with the vocabulary words from the first 15 chapters of my textbooks, so I can carry them with me and study at any time. The best part is that for each word (or short phrase), I can click an icon and hear the word spoken by a real Thai speaker. The tones are hard to get right if your mother tongue is not a tonal language, and getting the tones right can be critical to making yourself understood. The spoken Thai in this app is much better than Google translate, which I tried to use before for this purpose. I've found about 98% of the vocabulary from my textbook in this app. The ones that are missing are mostly multi-word expressions. Usually the dictionary has the individual component words, but may not have them placed together, usually because they have an alternate expression for the same thing, often one that is more commonly used. There are also lots of example phrases using basic grammatical forms. More than just a dictionary, I am finding Talking Thai to be a great study aid. I also stumble across a lot of new and useful words as I look up others. The other thing I like about this app is how user-friendly the interface is. When I look up a word, the search engine will give me all examples where that word appears in the entire app. In the English searches, it also shows words with similar spellings. So when I looked up "happy" in English, I found several Thai words for the adjective happy in the first entry, presented with both Thai script and romanized script. Placed next to each word is a little button I can push to have each word pronounced for me, and another button I can push if I want to save the word to one of my folders in Favorites. Below that, is another word for happy in Thai (referring more to being content) and then some words with similar spellings, such as happen, happily, happiness, etc. If I search the other way, using romanized Thai, I get the word for happy showing several synonyms in English to indicate its meaning, as well as the word used in phrases and sentences in various ways. Also, many of the example phrases come from folders dealing with specific subjects, such as Time, or Religion, or How We Feel. If you want to see what else is in that folder, you can just click on the tab immediately below the phrase, and the app will take you to that folder to see what else might be there. This is very helpful for studying the months or days of the week, for example. A feature I really like is the ability to grab just one word or a string of words from a sentence and search for it alone in the dictionary. They make this really easy. You tap the sentence, the app opens a new window where you can limit the words to just the one (or a few) you are interested in, then you can hit search and find the dictionary meaning for just that word or short phrase, or you can hit the "find words inside" command and it will break up the phrase into its constituent pieces and tell you the possibilities for what each individual word might mean. One really nice design feature is that when you hit the back button to return to the original phrase, you find yourself right where you left off within the list, rather than back at the top, having to scroll back down to where you left off. One more really nice feature of the app is the ability to resize the script on any page just by placing two fingers on the screen and moving them apart. Particularly helpful to those who have reached middle age. Whoever designed this app was really thinking about the user when they did so. A final feature I like are a set of symbols to tell the user whether a particular word is formal, primarily spoken only, or literary. This is nice when you look up an English word you want to use, because it immediately tells you which of several choices might, or might not, be appropriate in a particular situation. The symbols are only used for words that are primarily formal, or primarily spoken only, etc. I can't say enough about how useful this app is. The price is very reasonable considering the content. This app has been invaluable as a supplement to my Thai class. Knowing what I know now, I would have gladly paid more for this app. If the designers would like to make improvements, or perhaps create a Pro-version, they might consider adding a flashcard function whereby the words stored in a folder or group of folders could be randomized for study purposes. Also, there is a Thai-Japanese dictionary app where the Thai word can be typed in even if you don't know the exact "spelling" in roman script, and the app will present all possibilities. So if the word I hear sounds like "Kwaam-Suk" but I don't know if it is actually "Kwam-Suk" or "Gwam-Suk" or "Kwam-Suuk", the app will present all of these possibilities. If this app had a "Guess" mode, where it tried to find a word that sounded close to what the user types in, it would make the app even more valuable. Might be trickier to program with English but a feature like that would make this app even more valuable.

Now the X. Last IPhone I bought was I5 in Udon Thani. Just bought the IPhone X. First 15 min on the App Store Good to be back. Going through my list and remember happily payment paying for this 5 years ago. Awesome updates and awesome to see y’all are keeping the Thai language accessible. Next I need to load the Thai keyboard for some practice. Great to see the fresh updates! I had the hard copy of this book too. Khrap!

Not worth money spent. I have found this app difficult and confusing to use. Instructions hard to understand. Lots of bragging from the developers about the thousands of words. But something as simple as ‘Tom boon’ can’t be found. Google translate is easy to use and better. Wasted my money on this app. Check the reviews. All are over a year old. Much better apps out there that include everyday phrases you can use.

The best Thai dictionary. This is my first ever rating and review of an App. I'm not going to write about its features, their commitment to updates, stability, or anything because they are all excellent. I'm just going to say This is the best Thai dictionary I've ever used - well worth the price.

The best. Don’t let the old school looking app icon fool you. This is a great app! It is worth the price. There are countless phrases here all with a native speaker pronouncing them with the Thai tones. I would love to see an update with added functionality but even without an update this is a must have app to learn Thai.

The best there is. I have never written an app review, but this is hands down the best Thai language app available. It is expensive compared to the others, but 100% worth it. I’d honestly say it’s worth a whole lot more than the purchase price considering the immense amount of content that it provides. Having an actual Thai person pronounce each word is an indispensable feature. I recently moved to Thailand and can say that this is without a doubt the best Thai language learning product that I have bought, and I’ve bought quite a few! Quit thinking about it and just buy it already.

Easy, easy, easy…and POWERFUL. I have studied and speak four languages (Thai being the fourth), and this is BY FAR the best tool I have ever used. The title doesn't do it justice as it is so much more than a dictionary…even much more than a talking dictionary. The program includes helpful features like "Find Words Inside" (to quickly break down Thai compounds to roots), and an entire instruction book is included in the Help section explaining everything about Thai including pronunciation, spelling, grammar, and even the dreaded Thai classifier. And they even offer icons to help understand which words are "spoken" (colloquial), "formal," "used for or by royalty," "used for or by monks," and even "obscene" (e.g. the "bad words" are all included). Before I bought this, I was a little put off by the price tag, but having owned it for many months I think it is the best Thai tool available! I wish they would make this for Spanish and French, too!!! UPDATE: THANK YOU FOR THE LONG AWAITED UPDATE … VERY NICE!

Worth every penny. I am attending a thai class and this app is a life saver. It is very well designed and customizable. No other app comes even close to this. If you just need a dictionary there some other free dictionary apps. But if you are learning thai get this one

Great Learning Tool!. This application is really well done and worth the investment. Being able to hear the pronunciation of every word (as many times as you like) is so helpful for working on the tones. I like the variety of look up methods - English, Thai script, and phonetic - and have even enabled the Thai script keyboard on my iPad so I can type in words I see. One improvement idea I have would be the ability to create your own word groups within the app. Now there are a few pre-set groups for numbers or months or days of the week. But it would be very cool if I could make a group for colors or fruit within the dictionary so I don't lose the linkage to the pronunciation or modifier info. This would be especially helpful for people learning specialist vocabularies. Thanks for the great tool, making studying on your own more fun and productive!

Literally The Best. While I'm not familiar with the first version, I can say that I've never come across any better dictionary for Thai, or any other language. I actually use this on a daily basis.

Absolutely Worth It. As someone who lives in Thailand as is currently trying to learn the language, I would be absolutely lost without this app. It has everything you need to learn the basic rules of grammar, reading, writing and has an explanation for why everything is the way it is. Plus a limitless dictionary that has just about every word you could imagine. The most comprehensive app I could ask for to the fundamentals of Thai. I was hesitant to spend $25 dollars on an app at first but it is absolutely, without a doubt worth it, if you're interested in learning Thai, it is a must buy.

Best Dictionary I’ve Ever Seen. I’m upset I didn’t discover this app 2 years ago when I started learning Thai. I was fine paying the price just for a simple good dictionary with the Paiboon phonetic system but this app is way more than a dictionary. It has absolutely everything you need to study Thai from common usage to grammar, to classifiers. This is great work by the developers.

Was awesome, but now in major need of update.. I’ve been using this app for a little over five years now. Until recently, it has been an excellent application and well worth the money. However, now many of the icons at the bottom or no longer accessible on my iPad. It’s constantly asking me if I want to allow the application to paste. Sure, these aren’t major issues, but if you are someone who uses it constantly like myself, it gets annoying very fast. Please update soon, and I will be able to continue to recommend it to my friends.

Even more amazing. This app just keeps getting better. I first got it over 10 years ago; I recently moved to Thailand and this app has made my life so much easier. Well worth the price.

Great application. One of the better ones

Amazing. Perfect learning resource. So well organized and well done.

Best Thai Language resource App. Really is the best all around. Resources are great. Vowels, phrases, etc.. great!

Best App!!. Seriously the best app and worth the money. Every bit worth the money. One thing... the Haas keyboard needs the glottal stop option for beginning of words. There are many words that can’t be searched for because this option isn’t there. At least I can’t find it. Thanks.

Outstanding ‼️👍🏼. I have tried numerous other programs. This is by far the best one available !!!

Terrific dictionary. Best dictionary I have ever used. Can search words in English, Thai script, and transliteration. Highly recommended.

Worth it.. This is a very expensive app by Ipod/Iphone standards, but it is worth every penny if you spend more than a few days in Thailand, or if you work with Thais in your own country. It takes a little time to get use to the interface and how searches are done, but it is definitive in its various uses of words, both Thai and English. I used it nearly every day and stopped carrying my Thai dictionary. It does not have basic phrases, but the Amazing Thailand App, which is available for free, covers things like that, and the two apps together make an unbeatable combination. One wish would be for a favorites button or tool since it can take a bit of searching sometime to find the exact word you are looking for, being able to tag that as a favorite would make this great app even better. The history is one way to do that, but the history was not consistent enough to be able to use it to quickly find favorite words. It is good with a number of technical terms and with the Thai keyboard, I could hand it to my collegues in Thailand so they could type in a Thai word on the few times when they did not know the English translation. This was particularly handy when trying to identify plants in the field, including herbs. Again, the ability to save favorites is the only thing that is lacking from my view.

Super. I can't compare other Thai dictionaries (apart from google translate), but this one is excellent. A few features I like: - zoomable text so my crappy eyes can make out the words, especially Thai letters - has lots of obscure words that I'm frequently surprised it contains (e.g. Pandanus and Star Anise) - developers are happy to get word or definition suggestions - easy to switch between English, Thai or phonetic scripts. Overall, a really excellent app, and worth the money in my opinion.

Covid-19 vocabulary update please. I love this app but would like to see some updates on more modern slang and with the Covid-19 crisis, some new additions to the word bank. Also a dark mode would be an awesome feature.

Listen to the other reviewers. It is absolutely the best out there. I’ve tried them all and this one is perfect. It should be at the top of the list but has not yet been truly discovered. The price is totally worth it. Just get it if you’re serious about learning Thai.

The Best Thai/English Dictionary for iPhone & iPad. If you are only going to buy one dictionary app for the iPhone, then I strongly urge that you buy Talking Thai-English-Thai Dictionary. I downloaded it today and I have already deleted all of the other dictionaries that I have collected. This iPhone app, which also works beautifully on the iPad, has everything that I would ever need from a dictionary. At the moment, we are talking about over 100,000 entries with more than 14 hours of studio recorded sound. Years ago, after I learned the Thai alphabet, I taught myself how to read Thai by reading a dictionary every day. I kept this up for about three months and ended up being able to read easy children's books. Of course, there was no way for me to know whether I was using the correct tone as I didn't have a Thai teacher to practice with. I would have loved to have this iPhone app back then. I would have certainly made good use of it. Buy this app, you will never regret it.

Excellent. You could learn Thai using nothing but this app alone. Highly recommended!

The best hands down. Easily the best Thai dictionary . It's fast has both directions and gives better results then online translators like googles

Wonderful App with one small bug. Every good thing all the other reviewers have said about this app is true. I use it daily. One small bug on my iPad Pro, iOS 16.3.1. The lower rows of both the phonetic and Thai keyboards go off the bottom of the screen. I suspect thus happened with the latest iOS release, not long ago

Very limited. I bought this translator thinking it would be a useful tool in place of the google translator.. I was wrong. It has some words, but very few useless phrases. It uses a women’s voice and no man’s voice. There is no support because it is old. Save your money and use the free Google translator.

Great App !!!. Easy to use and very helpful. Pronounces words for me to learn. Also useful word categories, eg. Food etc. Well done! Please continue to maintain and update app

Really great. I have lived in Thailand and found this app invaluable.

Please fix. I just updated my iPad and now the keyboard for Thai characters and Thai sounds are not working. The keyboard is two thirds off the screen so I can't use it. The English keyboard comes up as normal though. Just saw your instructions re update. I fixed problem by switching Apple keyboard on under settings and using my Thai keyboard. Thanks for the instructions

Really good app and upgrade. Was a bit shocked with the upgrade but after about 5 mins I started to realise how good the new version was. I had really liked the original version but this update rocks. The favourites folders is so handy for reviewing daily words, the keyboard management makes swapping between Eng and Thai easy and the phrases are an excellent way to learn the basics of Thai sentance structure, grammer and tones... Thanks for the nice surprises. :-)

Wonderful app. I have used a number of Thai-English-Thai dictionaries over the years along with dedicated talking dictionaries and this product leaves them all for dead. It has a customisable, well thought out, intuitive interface, an extensive vocabulary and many features (such as listing the associated classifiers with a word) that have helped improve my knowledge and language skills. I love the ability to be able to choose the system for representing the pronunciation of Thai words, to use two-finger gestures to scale the font, to readily copy words for cut-and-past into other apps (such as SMS) and many other features. My only complaints are minor. I'd like to see more words related to building and tools. I would like to be able to set different systems for use with showing the pronunciation of Thai words and doing phonetic searches. And, I would l really like to see more on tones, specifically learning exercises. That said, in fairness to the authors this is a dictionary and not a language teaching tool. A great product and well worth the money.

Geng Mahk Krup. Absolutely essential. Well done .

MikeRitza. Excellent app and highly recommended. Small error in the break down of the syllables (only gives the whole phrase and not the individual syllables as indicated)but I am sure this will be rectified in due course.

Best Thai Dictionary App for English speakers by a mile. This is so good that I would rarely use any other dictionaries to look for Thai words. Its fast and convenient to enter search word in English, Thai script, or romanised Thai in any one of several systems. I use Mary Haas romanised system since that is what I am used to. Its not necessary to even know the correct tone of words being searched for! Well worth the money. I don't use the other Thai dictionary apps any longer. Very good linkage system and can copy a word to save area. Someone complained it doesn't speak English, but this dictionary is not designed for Thais at all. Still could be improved: Some common speech words still missing (fortunately very few), e.g. "cheunjai" (refreshing). No ability to search for words or expressions containing a word. Must search from first part only. No easy way to extract words looked up to my vocab learning list, even though can copy the Thai word or the English word (one by one). Would be good if application maintained a vocab list itself of user selected entries. History function doesn't work well enough. A must for all serious Thai learners. Who wants a heavy book? From: Micky Mee Panda

Great... and constantly improving. At first I was thrown by the new layout. It took a while to get familiar with my way around again. This app is money well spent and it gets better with every update.

Fantastic app for me. This has been a really great asset and saved us often and helped us more often than I can say. I'm also still getting used to the new version, but it's comprehensive and just so good for so many aspects of the language. I still come across words occasionally that I can't easily seem to get anywhere, really specifically related or technical ones not used often. But it's not something that is a real issue and I think it just fantastic. I don't bother to write reviews usually but I wanted to for this one because it's how it is and deserves a good wrap. IMO

Does what you expect, perfectly!. Having this and the Windows desktop app version has provided me with a perfect translation tool, and is great when in Thailand to be able to "speak" difficult words with the locals

Amazing tool. An amazing app, I use it everyday, very broad dictionary and excellent. Recommend to anybody who wants the best translator out there

Great App. This completely blows away all other Thai-English dictionaries on the App Store. To have high quality, native Thai pronunciation of every word is just great! Font sizes are easily adjustable, a real benefit, as in many Thai dictionaries fonts are simply too small to be easily read. The capacity to break any word down into its component words instantly is a huge benefit too. This really helps in understanding how Thai words are put together and saves heaps of time. Paiboon Publishing has scored an ace with this one. It is worth every cent as it is considerably more powerful and useful than Paiboon's similar paperback dictionary at around the same price. Six stars! My only quibble would be that I would make the History file a bit longer.

Great program easy to use. ขอบคุณมากๆ

Love this App. I have always been a fan of this app from its very first version, but this latest version, version 2, has taken the sophistication of the app to a level beyond all expectation. Brilliant effort by the designers to deliver a brilliant app. Worth every cent, worth every สตางค์.

Paiboon. Pretty good. Easy to use except that the keyboard does not switch to the language corresponding to entry mode. Would like an option for screening out place names but. I am sure that will be useful when travelling. I miss the. Sentences and similar words from Thai2English. Still finding lots of good things.

Good, but.... Really good concept, works very well, however don't expect to find every word you might find in magazines. Actually I find other dictionary apps more comprehensive in word content, and this app lacks a lot of words you'll find elsewhere. Some commonly used. I've purchased nearly everything from Paiboon, maybe I expected too much, given the content of other publications from them. A lot more words would make this app far more useful.

Very useful and invaluable dictionary!!. Bought many books and 2 apps from this author (Thai for beginners app was also great!) This talking dictionary makes it very easy to listen and learn to pronounce the words. The English romanization system used is also excellent as it covers all the Thai alphabet sounds and tones accurately! Descriptions for word meanings are very descriptive and helps you find the correct entry for the context which you want to use it in. Thank you so much for making this app available on the iPhone! You definitely get what you pay for. Look forward to seeing "Thai for intermediate learners" app!!

A great app ruined by some idiot.. The old version I paid for was the best language app I've ever used. The update has ruined it. Sack the moron who ruined you app! Waste of money now. I want a refund

Outstanding. This is an excellent product. The dictionary is huge. I can't think of an occasion in the 12 months I have been using this where it hasn't had the word. It has recordings of the Thai pronunciation for each word, which is critical for speaking good Thai. I particularly like the ability to look up words within a word. This has helped me to understand the language more quickly, and learn long words more easily. One suggestion....the ability to mark favorite words for review and/ or a flash card for favorites would help people like me who are learning new Thai vocabulary but need practice in learning words and testing pronunciation. Fabulous product!

To much. To hard to use , old version 1.8 simple much better to Learn with

The best Thai app. This really is excellent so much information and really easy to use would highly recommend anyone wanting to learn Thai . don’t go past get this app you won’t regret it

Acuurate and Fast. This app interface is like no other. There has been a mountain of development to make this app extensive and its powered to work quickly. It’s more of a dictionary than a learning tool however I can rely on it to provide very accurate translations. I would give it 5 stars if it was arranged in a way that I could configure the database to work more effectively with my personal learning preferences. But maybe this is a option I haven’t found yet?

Fabulous. So helpful and fun to use with all thai people. Best app ever I use 20times a day. Hard to work out how to change keyboards but benefits still worth it . Learn thai and enjoy sharing your phone with Thais . They enjoy it too. Sometimes so fun we laugh till we cry and Thais remember so don't think you can use English next time you meet.

Great apps, I've used others but this is the best, dii tii sut. This compliments the Thai For Beginners Book too. It is the best dictionary I've used. Used to carry the book around but this is very convenient. Thanks guys.

Very Very Disappointed !. Very very disappointed as this doesn't actually speak English!! The "Talking Thai-English-Thai Dictionary" Doesn't speak English ONLY speaks Thai !!!!

Never leave home without this app.. Even better than I imagined it would be. Congrats.

bad. mine doesnt open

Fabulous. I at first thought too different but now find it just amazing. It is a steep learning curve to get started but really worth it. Keep up your amazing work.

Sensational Dictionary. Having been studying Thai for some time now I've come to rely greatly on this app. For it's accuracy in translating words and it's depth. Another very useful feature is the local fonts. See words as they would be depicted in Thai magazines. Brilliant. Keep up the good work.

Exceptionally good but still has some bugs. Exceptionally good app but still has some bugs, I find on my iPhone when I try to get it speak the Thai word it does for the first three times then becomes unresponsive and hangs. Please fix this as the app is the best of its kind in my opinion and at $26.00 dollars I think I paid for it I expect it to work flawlessly all the time. I also agree that there should be an option to screen out place/location names, otherwise a fantastic tool when in Thailand.

Upgrade. Awesome upgrade. ขอบคุณมากๆ :-)

Best Thai app. This is by far the best Thai language app that I’ve found…comprehensive and in depth, but at the same time easy to use and intuitive. It makes learning the alphabet surprisingly easy,if you’re thinking of visiting or living in Thailand this is an essential.Don’t be put off by the price,it delivers so much bang for your buck you definitely won’t be disappointed….worth every penny.

Fantastic. This is the fourth Thai dictionary I've bought in the last 5 years (sometimes on PC and sometimes on Mac). Was wondering when I clicked 'buy' if it was going to be worth the money - but it's the best dictionary I've ever purchased. The recorded pronunciation is amazing. Well worth every cent

Still adjusting to new version and has some bugs. There was a big learning curve in getting to know version 2.0. Most of my concerns have been quickly fixed and now I greatly appreciate the app that has gone from just being a great dictionary to become a very effective language learning tool. Great!

Male. Can never be enough information, I have visited Thailand 9 times and always have used this App. ThankU, keep up the good work :)

Exceptionally good. Great dictionary and pronunciation; worth every penny. I'd like, however, to not have the place names and the option to delete words I'll never use or not likely to use while I'm learning. A favorites list would also be great.

Main reason why my Thai is good. This is the best Thai-English dictionary—bar none. It is made by a Thai native who has decades of experience with learning languages and as a translator, so the material is trustworthy (highly important for me). Every single word also has audio (native speaker), so your pronunciation can be spot on (also important for me). You can also compile vocabulary with the Favourites feature, and even organize everything into folders. And finally, for Anki users like myself, with the new v2 version, you can copy entries from your favourites, save the copied text as a TXT file, and import it directly into Anki! This dictionary app is a crucial part of my learning of Thai. I love it!

The best Thai dictionary for your phone. Very good app. Worth the money. Thank you for updating screen size for iPhone 5/5s. I'm excited to hear about version 2.0 with bookmark functionality. Keep up the great work.

Number 1 with a bullet. This is the gold standard of Thai -English - Thai Phonetic dictionaries and allows you to look up Thai words by English translation, Thai language script, and the sound of the word in Thai. As well, you can hear a real person pronounce every word in the dictionary and particularly helpful is the word inside feature as much of the Thai language is composed of compound words. You can also look up English translations of Thai words. I've used the pocket sized printed dictionary for years and this iteration is even better. I live in Thailand and use this app every day. It does everything it promises and does it well. Buy it now. This is a must have for everyone who even thinks they may need it and the price is small compared to it's usefulness.

No better Thai-English dictionary. I'm learning to speak Thai and this is an invaluable tool to help me with my pronunciation. Useful for both English and Thai speakers.

Awesome Dictionary (updated). I've been using this dictionary constantly on the last 2 years. a lot of good things to say about it, but it MUST need an update!!!! screen, interface, more entries, more improvements, etc etc // UPDATE ตุลาคม 2014 Finally!!! I'm gonna start using this dictionary again to see what's new!! lol it's been years I've been waiting for this update, let's see what you have for the major update!!!!

Work great !. When you need help on the road, very usefull

Best translator I've ever used. I've had this over four years now. I would not trade it for any other English-Thai app. I've challenged this dictionary/translator many times and it has come shining through. There are words I never thought it would have but Talking Thai had an answer 99% of the time, even when I threw phrases at it. Worth every satang.

Still awesome. The best Thai-English dictionary out there. Used every day for 7 years.

Far superior to any language app in any language. I have used many apps for several languages, from translators to language courses to dictionaries. While this is called a dictionary (and is terrific at that function), it is much more than that as it also allows very hands-on language learning by the user through several functionalities (that work as they are supposed to). The Categories system is very well designed - both for finding words and phrases and for creating one’s own category tree of important words and phrases. And - not to forget — this is not just a text dictionary but a verbal one. The listening-to-pronunciation function works perfectly so far, with a very clear speaker. This app deserves to be well known and widely used.

The best Thai language learning tool ever!. I don’t leave reviews very often, but this one deserves my attention and my heartfelt praises. I have basically been using this app every day for the last 10 years. It was good to start with, and it keeps getting better. Thank you for thank you for this. I also recommend a series of books published by published by Paiboon: Thai for beginners, Thai for intermediate learners and Thai for advanced Readers.

Update. Since iOS 8 the type by sound keyboard is broken and the arrow button to go to explain spelling and words inside freezes the app

Really worth the Investment. I’ve lived in Thailand for 7 years and I still refer to this on a weekly (and sometimes daily) basis. I was an early adopter of this App when it first came out in 2011 and the development that has gone into the app over the intervening years has been really great. If you are planning on spending any time in Thailand and Thai is not your heart language the just consider this app as part of the cost of being there. You won’t regret it.

Really worth it. I was hesitant due to high price, but wow this app is really worth it. So nice to finally have a high-quality, reliable Thai-English dictionary. I would love to see the History as a main button in the lower menu. I feel it's more important and more frequently used than the Help button that is currently there.

Really Really Great App. This app is a must for learners of Thai. I gave it five because it deserves five and I would add a few things. Too bad in the spelling explanation section you cannot just tap on the letter and go right to its particular description without looking it up on a chart. Also it would be great if they gave example sentences in certain instances, like when a phrase requires a word and they just show a blank(as in ... the Thai phrase for "testing someone's limit"). It would be out of this world if you could choose between a female voice and a male and if there was an example sentence for each word. Otherwise it is packed with features. I love it. Even though I still find many English words missing, it is worth every penny!

Wow!!. What a great app me and my wife use this app for those not so often used words.

A really fine application!. This is really good! I can't think of a better addition to my iPhone! I've tried many Thai dictionaries and this is, hands-down, the very best. No other application has half the features or is easier to use. I highly recommend it for the serious language student.

Put Pasa Thai Dee Mak. This is an excellent app to use in Thailand. You can easily find a word and play it for a Thai-speaking person and get your point across to them. Plus, they love that you are trying to communicate.

So worth $25. This is exactly what I've been looking for. As someone who is a novice at reading Thai, it is absolutely crucial to have the spoken pronunciation for every word. On top of that, the pronunciations are read loudly, clearly, and slowly, making them extremely easy to understand and repeat. The ability to see all of the different fonts is also a godsend, to which any beginning Thai speaker trying to read signs/menus in Thailand can attest. On top of all that, it is extremely fast.I always find it quite frustrating trying to look up a word in mid-conversation or while listening to a lecture and having to wait for the application to search for it. This app finds the word as quickly as I can type it every time. In sum this app = A++ and is totally worth the $25 price tag.

Outstanding app. Not only has this multi-functional dictionary app been tremendously helpful in my study of Thai, it has also been crucial to my work teaching English to several Thai people. There is no other tool that comes close!

Great reference as well as learning tool. This is a fantastic app. It beats google translate hands down. The best part is the ability to break a word down and search for definitions of the component words. This is phenomenally helpful for those learning new words. It's fast, and also contains audio of all the words read by a native speaker. Well worth the price! Update: the new version that fixed the things IOS 8 broke make this app perfect again!

Worth the money!. This is by far the best dictionary app I've ever used! Worth every penny I spent on it.

Freezes up on iOS8. Was very good until OS upgrade. Now freezes up when you click "More", with no recovery except to re-start the app. Needs fixing, folks.

Best app ever - ruined by update!. We absolutely loved this app for 6 years and depended on it living in Thailand...then they decided to improve it and it is lousy!!! I spend more time trying to figure it out and find it useless now.

Worth the scratch. I've been living in Thailand for a year now and I use this app every single day. Best feature: you can look up words not only in English and Thai, but also in transliterated Thai (for those who haven't yet learned Thai characters). The dictionary is very comprehensive as well and includes many compound words and short phrases. Highly recommended.

Invaluable App. I bought the dictionary in hard copy and carried it everywhere because it was the best I had found. When I found this app and downloaded it I was more than satisfied. Not only am I able to find the words instantly but now can hear the pronunciation as well. I use it to copy the Thai script and paste into a text message or email to Thai friends. It was worth every cent. Excellent and most useful app.

Wonderful ... While I had it :(. This was fantastically useful on my recent trip to Thailand! Thank You for such a great ap. unfortunately, my phone was stolen in Thailand. Is there anyway to get it replace? I didn't back it up to my computer...

Indispensable. I use this app nearly everyday but it was really starting to show its age with its iOS 6 styling and pre-iPhone 5 screen size. I had begun to worry the app had become abandoned. This latest update (v1.8) has fixed all of those issues and most excitingly, show that the device is still under active development. Not only that, with the slew of new features coming in version 2.0 the future is looking bright for on of my most used apps!

this app is a Godsend!. I absolutely love this application since it streamlines the time needed to find a word and correctly pronounce it during a conversation. For years, I've been slowly learning Thai with the help of the same publishing company's paper back version Unfortunately, the pronunciation for those words was not available so that you can hear the words. Now, it is possible to learn words on your own by repeating the pronunciation of the word as many times as you wish. And, you can look up words in so many different ways that you can give the app to a non-English speaking Thai person and they can find words to communicate with you! LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!!! It is an expensive application but well worth the money if you find yourself really needing to know Thai!

Liked it better before. I really loved the old version of this app. Used it all the time living in Thailand. The new version seems cluttered and confusing. I'm sure there's some good stuff they added, but to me it feels less intuitive and is by far uglier now.

Strange but great. The new update is impressive. Already the highest quality dictionary by far (by accuracy of definitions), and added some genuinely useful tools to it. Just about every UI element is out of place on iOS, but it works quickly and smoothly. I really wish there was a way to purchase the dictionary separately to add to the native dictionaries on my Mac and iOS devices - for when I don't need all this power stuff though.

Comprehensive. This app contains an amazing amount of resources for a thai learner. The latest update made it even better.

Indispensable app for expats. I am amazed by this app. I use it all the time, as I am living in Thailand. It is my language assistant.

Can't creat vocab lists. Ok this is an excellent app. I just want to point out a couple of things in hopes the programmers are listening. As others have noted, the inability to mark words for later reference is the app's biggest, most glaring weakness. As all language learners know, this is a huge help and a necessary function of a dictionary app that even free basic apps have. Ideally, one should be able to create and name (for organizing by theme or category) multiple lists. Take a clue from Pleco Chinese dictionary, where you can create lists and even several layers of sub-lists. I will happily come back and update to 5 stars when that happens. PLEASE! All that said, this is a very intelligent and well designed app with lots of thoughtful functions for learners. Makes me excited to study!

This app is my lifeline!. Having this app on my phone gives me confidence to interact with Thai people in Thai because I know I can turn to it to assist me with the meanings and spellings of Thai words that I don't know. I wish I had known about this app when I first started studying Thai. Once I found out about it and started integrating it into my study and practice of Thai, my rate of learning increased significantly. Without this app, I would not be able to do my Thai reading and writing homework as correctly or efficiently as I do now. I love it and all the new features. The price of this app is money well spent, completely and absolutely worth it.

Awesome tool for the serious student. Incredible value for the money. Especially useful if you want to study written Thai.

5-star. I have used this app for 4 or 5 years and thought it excellent. Now with V 2.0 there is no comparison between Paiboon and all the other Thai dictionaries!!

V2.0 brings favorite word lists and a slew of improvements. Updated for v2.0 First off, let me just say thanks for making this upgrade free for version 1.x purchasers! I am thrilled to see the new favorites feature come to fruition. Incredibly useful. It would be even better if when you looked up a word in the dictionary, that it would indicate if it was already in your favorites... There are some UI quirks for certain but the power and completeness of this dictionary as both a learning and reference tool overcome them. And the authors have definitely taken time to make the app easier and faster to use. Impressive. -- Updated for v1.8 This update brings support for ios8 and iPhone 6/6+. Looks good. Really looking forward to the 2.0 upgrade! -- Excellent app for beginner and seasoned speakers. But this app desperately needs word lists with the following options: * time stamp of date word added * option to add an annotation * maybe a counter to see how often the word has been accessed * search / display options for the lists (nouns, verbs, date added, etc) * even a single global list would be great if it had appropriate searching

Superb App & Highly Recommended. It may seem expensive but it’s well worth the price. I live in Thailand and use it almost daily. It’s basically a 150K word talking translation dictionary that pronounces each word clearly in a non-robotic human voice. Thai is a tonal language and so the correct pronunciation is very important. Actually being able to hear a Thai word pronounced over and over is what I love about this app and there’s no way you can get that from a non-pronouncation book. My main problem with this app is it does not allow me to create my own custom list of words for easier practice. Are you reading this Paiboon?

11 stars. This app is well thought out and the best of any language app I have ever seen. Amazing stuff, it was useful right away and I'm just consumed by it. This app has the 'sounds like' feature I always wanted, and I have yet to see another app with this feature. This is a must have because even the slightest mis-pronounciation in Thai can cause confusion, so when you are trying to remember that word and exactly what the tone was, its intrumental to say the least. Excellent work!

clear, audible pronunciation. I purchased the dictionary to use as a tourist intending to stay in Thailand on her own for two months. The greatest value lies in the critical personal words included such as toothbrush, toilet paper and help (noun and command). On an ipad the dictionary is visually and audibly clear and crisp. If a tourist were in difficulty, the dictionary can be produced and a Thai person can either listen to the word or see it on the screen. I would think that the dictionary is exceptionally useful to those who are actually learning the Thai language.

Exceptional!. Have loaded many different Thai English dictionaries in the past 8 years, on the computer, talking dic devices, iPhone, books, etc. This app towers over them all. Why? Simply because every word (yes EVERY word) has a real spoken pronunciation by a native Thai speaker. There's many other good features for example whether the word is polite, informal, rude, etc, detailed reasons why each syllable is pronounced the way it is,etc. Very, very pleased! Best app I ever purchased.

Great app. Use this app all the time it's quick, easy to use and is constantly updating The amount of words. It is a little expensive but it is that much better and well researched from cheaper apps and after sales is almost instant. Other consumers are asking for phrases which as Paiboon is a leading teacher of Thai I don't expect that to appear any time soon. Bit like going into The Ritz and ordering Oreo cookies. It's not what she does. However what keeps this beautiful app from five stars is there is no favourite words storage and although there is a history it's fleetingly short and of no real use. Come on guys this is a tremendous oversight. People need to store words they use not know Thai for ostentatiousness.

OMG What an update...!!. Absolute best Thai learning app... !! I have been using this app for years and love it along with everything produced by this publisher. The updates for this version are fabulous. So many features for different kinds of users without being overwhelming. I especially love the dictation feature. Thank you so much for all the hard work put into this new version. P.S. I liked the old colorful icon much better. The big character makes it obvious what the app is for but it is a little bit plain to look at.

Excellent program that exceeds being a dictionary. Wonderful application; I remember the author of the app because she wrote two Thai teaching books that I bought 5 years ago. Anyways, this is a great app that does better than a dictionary and in fact attempts to teach the language rules, which is great! Really well designed, with excellent aesthetics. I cannot recommend this enough if one owns an ipad because this is a serious tool to learn Thai. No other reference gives (1) transliteration, (2) reference to word/language rule breakdown, (3) pronunciation in a single package for Thai. Price wise, it's expensive for an app but consider the resource that's available to you; it's empowering. Great job again, Benjawan.

The ONLY Thai dictionary for the serious student. I have four different Thai dictionary apps on my iPad and this is the one I bought last because it was most expensive. Save yourself the trouble and buy this one FIRST. It's so far above-and-beyond the competition it's not even in the same league. I cannot imagine studying Thai without this app. The fact that it clearly marks which words are "formal", which words are "common" and which words are rude is invaluable. The "Find words inside" feature is also extremely helpful for understanding compound words and remembering what they mean. I could go on and on. If you want top of the line, this is it.

Comprehensive simple and amazing. Simply put the best foreign language app. Can help you learn or just get along on a trip. Helped me so much when I was in Thailand for two months. By the time I'd left the kingdom I was comfortable ordering food, directing basic cabs and doing things like adding money to my bts card and that's all without studying

Worth the baht. I don't normally write reviews, but this app is a tool that's too good to pass up. The pronunciations are clear and accurate. This dictionary tells you what words are outdated, impolite, vulgar, proper, and more commonly used. You can search for words in English, Thai script, or Thai sound(English characters). There is a section that goes over tones. You're also given a link to a website that records your voice for practice. The help section has a lot of information on things like the Thai alphabet and introductory words. Good luck with your new language. I hope this review helps. ลูกครึ่ง

Invaluable to residents. I've used this app for a long time and it is invaluable. I've used it to communicate with my wife, to clarify something when I'm shopping, getting somewhere, etc. It is frequently updated for function and seems to stay up with iOS changes. It's probably not for a tourist as it is rather expensive and more extensive than required. However, I would recommend it to any long term resident of Thailand.

Great app!!!. I bought this app to help me while taking a Thai course with a teacher. I am also using Rosetta Stone. It is wonderful for looking up Thai words in English, in Thai (if you know the spelling), or by the sound of the Thai. It is organized very well, is easy to use and quite complete. Here and there I run across an instance of a word I want which isn't listed, but this is very rare. One glaring omission is the lack of numbers: the word for the numbers is there, but not the numeral. An excellent app, though, and worth every penny.

Far and away the best. Great interface and full of helpful features

Love this app. This is my favorite Thai app. And it's the only one that has stayed on my home screen for the last year. It's fast, the translations are correct (unlike other apps where I have found tonal mistakes or outright mis-spellings), and the audio pronunciations are very helpful. I'm not sure what improvements could be made, other than adding phrases. But even without that it is still very much worth it's cost. A++

Excellent Dictionary. It does nearly everything a learner of Thai could want. The explanation of Thai alphabet and grammar were especially helpful. Please integrate an optical character recognition function and flash cards to make it a perfect package.

Best ever. They thought of everything in this app. So many features it's unbelievable!

Great update. I leave for Bangkok in October so this update comes at a great time. I am looking forward to using this extensively the next two weeks getting ready for my trip.

More than worth the cost. This review relates to Version 1.4, though I started using it under the prior version. This is not an inexpensive app. That said, it is the most used app I have on my iPhone. I live in Thailand and am taking an intensive Thai language program at one of the universities in Chiang Mai. When I first began, the ability to enter English words to look up Thai words was very helpful. Since there is no standardized transliteration for Thai, it was sometimes difficult after class to remember the pronunciation of a Thai word or its corresponding tones. The ability to hear the word spoken by a native speaker allowed me to hear the word properly pronounced and therefore filled an essential need. I have now reached the point where I can read and write the Thai alphabet. The app still remains essential to my study both in class and when I am studying on my own. While I have the author's paper dictionary (two copies, actually), they basically stay on the shelf at home since I always have the iPhone app with me. Despite the price, I would definitely buy it again and I recommend it often to my fellow students that have iPhones. I am hoping they finally come out with a desktop version for the Mac. Unfortunately the desktop version the have now only works on Windows.

Great Stuff!. This is a wonderful program, which provides huge amounts of information in a very well-organized format. If you're using the Benjawan Poomsan Becker books for learning Thai it's especially wonderful, because its default romanization system is that of the Becker books. But, not to worry -- you can switch to something like a dozen different systems. I especially like the history feature, so I can go back and find what I had looked up previously. And the spelling and compound word construction assistance is incredible. We've found a few more words in this dictionary than in Becker's wonderful little printed dictionary. However, I would still say that the only major failing of this dictionary is the number of words. Hopefully, they will add more vocabulary for us to learn and use?

Best Thai Dictionary. This is hands down the best Thai Dictionary in the App Store. Worth the price and it is now updated for iPhone 5 and iOS 8!

Great App!. Totally worth the money and highly recommended!

Totally Awesome. So I use this app everyday as I am currently in a 1 year Thai immersion. I find it very helpful, and now after this last update I find it very user friendly. Highly recommended.

Couldn't live in Thailand without it!. I have been living in Thailand for nearly five years now and studying Central Thai and Isaan Thai language in the NE. I can't imagine having attempted to learn the language and wade through the extensive Thai vocabulary from day to day without this app. There is not a single day that passes wherein I do not turn to this dictionary multiple times, whether encountering new words, working on a language lesson, or preparing documents for my work. Anyone who seriously wants to learn Thai language should have this dictionary app at his/her side everyday. It is an amazing tool and has become a very essential friend to me as I continue to try to grow in my understanding of and proper use of the Thai language.

Very Impressive. I've never written a review before, but felt obligated to do so now. Just spent 3 hours with this thing, and is remarkable. I haven't even touched all that is there yet. I've bought several well known Thai language books over the years, even one with CD attached, but this takes the cake! $25 might seem like a lot, but I figure will come out to a cost factor of pennies per hour of usage. Having been there many times, I can tell you that spoken word is true to what is actually spoken on the street. But also gives you formal alternatives, if needed. "You get what you pay for" is certainly a fact with this app. My hats off to the developer! Good Job.

Best dictionary app!. This is by far my favorite Thai dictionary app! My favorite part is the "Find Words Inside", I've learned a lot just with that really neat little feature.

Excellent Update. This app has been an indispensable tool in helping me learn Thai for over a year. I was so surprised to open the app today to Version 2 and thought what happened to the app I was so familiar with! V2 is totally revamped and so much better organized. It has also included many useful sections like common phrases in different situations. Sample sentences to illustrate the use of a word is very helpful in helping to understand the Thai sentence structure. ชอบมากขอบคุณนะครับ
