Change to article-based delivery not an improvement. I liked the app before when I could download an entire issue that I could then read offline while traveling. The change to an article-based delivery is not user-friendly. I have to slowly go through an issue to get the content before I can read at my leisure. Why did you make the change? It provides no advantage to the user that I can see.

To restore previous purchases:. To restore previous purchases, click on the three lines (menu) in the top left corner, then the sprocket (Settings) in the bottom left. Then click “restore purchases”. They will still show the $3.99 price, but will open and let you read them. Review of the update: Pros: you can search full-text for the entire issue. Pinch to zoom works, too. Cons: Each page is now an individual image, which means the table of contents is no longer clickable. Also, you have to swipe through to get to anything. There is a glitch after update where all purchases are missing and you have to restore them. No indicator for subscription status. The old version was far superior.

Subscriber service is bad. I have been an online subscriber for years, recently I am unable to access even though I have paid until The end of next year. I have asked multiple times through app service without any response. Finally I asked Apple to refund my subscription. I will not use RD again. Hope they can respond and help online subscribers!…

This app turned me off of RD. I used to love this app. But, some changes recently have been super annoying. The app will not always save your place, even if you don’t completely close the app. Then to make matters worse, there is no longer a way to scroll through the entire issue, so you have to turn pages one by one until getting back to where you left off. But the back-breaking straw is that I recently was charged for an automatic renewal through Apple but was not able to get the app to sync to my Apple account. The online chat help button doesn’t work and Calling RD was no help...I was told it’s an Apple issue even though I tried explaining that the issue was the flaky app itself. (Deleting and reinstalling did not help). Apple wasn’t able to help because the issue was within the app which is not an Apple product. Duh. But, Apple was able to refund the renewal charge and cancel my account. So...App deleted. Rant over. I’ll read something else.

Easy to navigate. I really like the iPad version of the magazine. I think it's easier to read than the real thing and way easier to move from article to article. It also is slightly bigger than the actual magazine which is very nice to actually be reading it.

Save the hassle. Avoid this app!. I have a yearly subscription, but I can’t access the Dec/Jan issue without paying extra despite selecting “restore purchases” multiple times. Update: 16 days into December and I still can’t access the Dec/Jan issue without paying extra on top of the yearly fee subscription I paid for. Zero help from Apple support.

Not liking the app. I noticed that the app has no way to save my pages and has stopped numbering them at the top. So when I close app, I have to write down the month and a description of the article I was reading so I can find it when I return. At one time, there was a page saver I could highlight at the top of the page and it is gone now. Please add the page saver back. Thanks!

Interesting Reading. I have had a subscription for years and have also made a gift of a subscription to my mother in law. It’s always a good time to be able to sit down with Readers Digest. Not only do I love the stories but the jokes are very fun. Love this magazine

All is good. Have been subscribing off and on over the past several years. Renewed subscription 10 months ago and just recently for next year. I just downloaded the application with no problems. I have 6 years of issues which is great. Downloaded to my IPhone and IPad. I enjoy reading the short stories. Happy customer.

App not working. App is trying to charge me when print subscribers are supposed to get it free when I enter my account # it says it can’t find my info. I got it for free up till sept issue. I have done everything it says to do if you have problems not fixed. My subscription is still in effect until 2023. If I would have known this would happen I would never have gotten the subscription. Can’t always carry the magazine with me so it was nice to read it on my iPad.

Capricious lockout of account frequently occurs.... I really enjoy online read, but absolutely frustrated with frequent dropping of my subscription...customer are webpage shows my account is active until Nov 2020, but when I attempt to download today’s issue of JUNE 2020, the app tells me to PAY. The last time this occurred, it took 2 weeks of emails before the account was RE-activated.....

Very bad app. Since it’s inception, this app has been nothing but a bug infested den. Sometimes it works properly, most of the time it doesn’t. Tech support, if you can actually reach somebody, is laughable and never any help. RD will say it’s Apples fault and to call them, Apple will say it’s RD fault and to contact them. On the rare occasion you do get somebody at RD, it’s usually from a foreign country and they read from their universal tech support script, which will do absolutely nothing for you but waste your time. Remember the good olé days when tech support actually worked and got results? Anyway, download at your own risk. You may be lucky and be able to read a few issues a year without any problems, but may not be worth your time or money.

Digital copy. I really like reading it on my iPad but I have not figured out how to mark my place. I have to remember what I read last and find the article again. I think I used to be able to bookmark it but can’t do it now.

Why can’t we have landscape mode. I learned to read with Reader’s Digest more years ago than I care to admit. I am no Luddite...I prefer digital media in many ways but this is the single major publication I read that is not in landscape mode. I’ve put up with this for many years update after update, your content is ever amazing, but honestly for the first time in 50 years I am considering cancelling my subscription- I won’t go back to paper but if I can’t have landscape mode soon - so much easier to manage read and experience, I will have to say goodbye.

Can’t open. Can’t open the app. Keeps saying I have to buy each copy or sign in. Will not let me register without account number. Don’t have one. Bought through apple tunes. Will not take apple password. Somehow finally got in, read a few pages. Came back later and same thing cannot log on. Waste of money and time

Buggy, unexpected from RD. Difficult to believe how can RD group distribute their magazines on such a buggy application. For over a month I am struggling to register my account that I purchased online for print and electronic RD magazines but keeps getting error. Tried a mail to application support team but still waiting for an answer. Good that as backup I have printed versions coming

Love content, hate app. I love the content of RD and have been reading for over 20 years. I’m not as into the new app. In the previous version, I could bookmark pages so I knew what I read. I’m not finding any way on the new app to even mark what I have read so I don’t have to waste time finding where I am each time I open the app.

Clunky. I have a digital subscription already. I wanted to check out their interactive words feature, as advertised in a recent issue on my kindle app. Downloaded the RD app and struggled with “registering an account.” Wasn’t able to get logged in after creating one. I think I’ll just stick with my digital content and avoid this less than user friendly app. Don’t wanna be double billed when I already have a subscription either (per the noted concerns of other reviewers). Please invest in user experience research and clear up the clunkiness of your app.

Not able to download issues even after paying 1 year subscription. It is unfortunate that even after paying a 1 years subscription that I am not able to download issues on my I pad or the I phone I tunes direct me to the app developer and there is no one to reach out to So I would not recommend the digital version I am sure. Like me there are many for whom this digital version did not work

Loses my place too much. I love Readers Digest and will continue using this app, BUT I'm very frustrated with this iPhone app! When I take a break from reading for a day or two and don't close the app, just minimize it, it very often loses my place. It loses it when I close the app also :(. I shouldn't have to bookmark my spot and most often forget to do that. I tried to leave a comment using the App Support link, but the link is broken. Sigh.

Can’t access subscription. The latest update to this app (November) is terrible. Doesn’t recognize my current subscription. I can access previous issues but not the newest Dec/Jan. No response from customer support. Restore purchases option does nothing. Had the same issue in November but finally resolved (not sure if my email to them resulted in action or if I finally did the right combo of restore/login options. No reason to renew if I can’t read my issues!

Impossible to read Readers Digest once you resubscribe. Too often trying to read Readers Digest ends up in being asked for extra payment of what is already paid. I have a subscription up to August 2022 but the app asks for extra payment instead of letting to read.

RD always the best. Reader’s Digest has been my favorite magazine since I was young. The variety of topics, and the regular features, e.g., Humor in Uniform, Laughter, the Best Medicine, Word Power, to name a few, bring so much enjoyment and edification. The information in each article is accurate and well researched. Practical, entertaining, informative. I love RD and look forward to each new issue!

Print subscriber disappointment. If you are a print subscriber and want access, this poorly designed AND broken app will probably waste your time. I had it working about 6 months ago and can no longer get access. Hope your experience is better than mine. No, I am not calling tech support for this, it should just work.

Good old magazine.... just dead pictures of pages. So I like the magazine... this is an app review... it really isn't one. All it is are dead pictures of the pages. MANY of the RD best features are in quiz format or select format. Ok on a print page you get your ballpoint out and circle your pick or write your answer in the margin... nothing on a dead picture of a page... what? get out a piece of paper and a pen to use an app?

Not Happy about Readers Digest in ipad. I do not care to read this magazine on my ipad! Every time I close the app and reopen it, I have to search for the page I left off on. Also, I can not pass it on to a friend. If they are no longer printing hard copies, I want a refund on my subscription.

What the. I bought and paid for RD in December of 21 and have yet to receive a printed version of the magazine. Had I known that that wouldn’t happen I would not have bought it, my wife can not read on a phone or iPad. And now I keep getting these annoying emails from their sales group to buy it again ☹️trust me when I say never again. I don’t expect this to be posted I just hope it is read by someone who gives a stink. So far no one has.

Working better. I have a paid subscription and did not work initially. I finally had reply by email from customer service. They reset my account and I was then able to login.

Article based? Why?. I am really frustrated and disappointed with the Article Based downgrade to the RD app. Downloading the entire issue by one article at a time is an incredible amount of time and it’s ridiculous to have to do it that way! Not to add the amount of data that uses on WiFi or cellular. Not everyone has unlimited data. Is there a way of downloading the entire issue at once? Until a few weeks ago I was able to download an entire issue and then I could read it when I didn’t have Wi-Fi or cellular. You need to provide a choice whether a subscriber wants to download an entire issue at once, for offline reading, or if the subscriber wants to sit around downloading one article at a time.

App charges even when you are a subscriber. I was assuming when subscribing the app would allow me to read through the mobile app. Only if you 3.95 a magazine. As a programmer and knowing how workflow and software works, this app is major issue, especially when you are charged for magazine again when you have subscription. I’m 99% sure those people who subscribe and told they read online would like to know the fact the app charges for each magazine again. I require simplicity, not duplicity.

Paid subscription but no access. I paid for a subscription through the App Store and am unable to read any issues. I used the “Report a problem” link in the Readers Digest app twice but get no response. This seems a total rip off to me, they will take your money for a subscription and then not give you access. I’m not quite sure how they get away with this. I would not recommend this app AT ALL.

App doesn’t pick up my subscription. I wasn’t able to connect my subscription to the app or even access the magazine through the news app on my phone. I couldn’t find any support anywhere so I’ve cancelled my subscription and deleted the app. I would gladly pay for the subscription to get this great magazine but I don’t want to pay twice.

Nice when it works. Have experienced difficulty accessing my paid subscription on several occasions. Reinstalled app, signed in and out, called for customer service. But when it works, it is nice to have on the iPad.

Great books. Easy to download and read on the go.. Fun read, humorous, informative and educational articles in one volume, every month.

Another possible option if you can’t access online issues. Hi… I too have been frustrated over the last 2-3 months! I was able to get my online issues and all of a sudden I can’t. I get prices too. sent several emails and phone calls to readers digest also with no luck. however I have found if you go to TMBI digital and give yourself a login, you can read your issues online that way.. not ideal but better than nothing. I was a print subscriber so can’t promise it works if you purchased subscription differently! Good luck

The best magazine “no competition “. First of all NO TRASH IN THIS MAGAZINE. It is really good for short reads entertaining, informative. I love it. Any other magazine is advertisement for products. Very little substance. Keep up the good work!!!!

Suggestions. I use your app on an iPad. 1. It would be nice if there were a way to increase font size. Finger spread does not work. 2. Other programs keep the issue being read open and save your place.

Three, because otherwise I get no attention. I ordered this magazine and I can’t log into my account and the app is NO help with that. Their digitalaccess account is either down or malfunctioning and there’s NO way to see my subscription. So I got ONE (June) physical magazine in the mail since March when I ordered, and that’s it... one magazine for $15. I used to LOVE having a subscription. Now I just want my money. Clearly, things are going downhill at RD. What a shame.

Reader's Digest App. I have had nothing but trouble with being able to open and have the app stay open since the February issue became available. It just automatically closes after about 10 seconds. I've been in touch with customer service at Reader's Digest who told me that I would have to contact iTunes who has given me several hoops to jump through to no avail. Now I have been told to go to the app and select the "App Support" option, but that keeps coming up with a generic error page and so.... I'm unhappy right now. Perhaps this review will get some response??

Great! When it works.. This is the second month in a row I can’t read the new issue even though my subscription renewed 2 months ago. I sent an email to customer service, but since it is a holiday weekend I have not gotten a reply. Too bad I also won’t have the time to read it after the weekend is over.

Excellent magazine and app. One of the best magazines I've ever read. I've been very reluctant to get the app but when I found out I failed to renew my print subscription within the required time frame I found myself at a loss waiting for my magazine to come again. So I got the app and I actually think I like it better. I don't have to wait for the magazine to come in the mail. App is excellent. The bookmarks were a little challenging to find and figure out how to use but other than that it's great!

On-line Readers Digest. The beauty of downloading a magazine is being able to read it while on a plane, etc. The problem with this app is I will download it and by the time I go to read it it is no longer there. It needs to be downloaded each time I want to read it which I can’t do on a plane. Why such a short window? Why does a magazine that I’ve already downloaded have to be downloaded over and over again. Frustrating!

No Support At All. I loved this app when it worked. But they did something to change to “article based”. Suddenly, all my downloaded issues disappeared. Everything appeared with a price. Apple says my subscription is fine, I need to contact the App developers. The number for help provided on the app is geared to print subscribers. They can’t even understand the issue. They send you to a website to register, which is also for print subscribers, NOT for people who pay for the app. I’ve called them twice — zero understanding of the issue. I sent an email to the address provided in the app. It’s been a week — no response. I’ve deleted and re-downloaded the app twice, done everything I can think of. And there is nowhere to go for help! Nothing is worth this amount of frustration!!!! So very disappointing!

Used to be great. I also am having trouble with the February issue, closing within seconds. Never had any problems prior to this issue. From other reviews, it seems that Apple & Reader's Digest need to get together & fix the problem instead of passing off blame to the other. PLEASE FIX!!!

WARNING! Is there a minus star?. I had this app on auto renew thru iTunes for years. I loved it. My latest 12 month subscription renewed the end of August 2020 and today I’m told they cant “find” my subscription so I can just pay again. RD said it was an iTunes issue and iTunes said it was an RD issue. Bottom line I’ve been able to read only 3 months out of a 12 month subscription and neither iTunes or RD will help me. I’ve been ripped off. UPDATE: Here we are March 2021 and I still have no access to a subscription I paid for in August of 2020. Readers Digest still says they cannot “find” my subscription and has no interest in helping me. They should be able to look back and find years of paid subscriptions under my name but won’t take the trouble. This is downright thievery.

Great app!. I have subscribed to Readers Digest for many years, and I love the magazine. Then I found it In Digital form, and I love this too! The digital form is easy to use, very user friendly, and the same wonderful reading material is now on my iPad! Thanks, Readers Digest! Great reading!

VERY disappointed with Apple and RD. I have had a print subscription to Readers Digest for over 20 years so in December 2018 instead of renewing I moved to the iTunes app version. I have yet to access a single issue and all attempts to contact Apple or Readers Digest have been in vane. I wasted 15 bucks and I won’t do that again. I’ll pay extra subscribing through Readers Digest

First Impression and Second Impression. I downloaded this after subscribing, under the mistaken assumption that I would be able to enlarge the text. I’ve never been unable to do this until now. It’s disappointing, and I wonder if it’s not done because large print is much more expensive for the printed magazine. Whatever it is, it’s sad! No purpose in ordering again if the print is so very small and difficult to read. My second impression is better, since I now understand how to use the magnifier on my iPhone. I’m sorry I did poorly on my research.

Could be more IPad friendly. I really enjoy the magazine, but one suggestion: why cant it be in landscape mode as well? Everything I do with my iPad Pro is in landscape, but I have to disconnect my keyboard and take it off my desk every time I have to read from this app.

The best!. READER’S DIGEST is the best magazine I have ever subscribed to. The articles are always informational, funny, educational.... I could go on and on but let’s just say “there’s something for everyone”. I will always subscribe to RD!

Mary Ellen Wilbanks. I cannot enlarge the copy on my I pad as I do my other periodical and books

Download speed and review. After reviewing some of the comments I decided to time the download. Let me say that I am running about 16mb/sec from my provider which has resulted in about a 6 min download. I agree with the other reviewers if you have a slow provider this may not be what you want. However, this will be true for any electronic subscription you may have. I also have another magazine I subscribe to with about the same amount of time for about 400meg of data. The one thing I don’t appreciate is the automatic renewal system however you can go to your subscriptions on your IPAD and turn it off so the automatic renewal doesn’t happen if you choose to do so. Over all I find the electronic version very easy to maneuver around though people that aren’t savvy to this type of viewing may have difficulty in doing so. I also have found some of the articles require internet access which I believe is another problem. If you’re going to download the magazine you shouldn’t need internet access. I’m still happy with the magazine overall so I give it four stars. I would have given it five stars if the above issue wasn’t true.

Not a review. January 2023 Reader’s Digest appears to be released WHY is it not on my iPhones paid subscription

iPhone Xs Max support!. Still doesn’t support iPhone Xs Max, needs to be update!

I hate the new changes. I have been a digital subscriber for years. With the recent redesign I am unable to make the text larger. I used to be able to just zoom in on a page but now there is no way to get bigger text! So unhappy.

Reader's Digest. I always enjoy the very diversify information. Great magazine! 👍👍

Unable to access. I subscribed to hard copy mag, loaded the app, tried to use app, but credentials weren’t recognized. Request for help, made online, and follow up gave have gone unanswered for a month or so.

No Log in. I cannot log in. The help desk is not helping. I love the magazine, just not the app or the support.

Can’t access “free” editions. Like many others, I have a paid subscription for printed editions but can’t get free access to the digital copies. They only have the “buy” option. App developers need to fix this problem! If it gets fixed, I’ll change my rating.

Newer isn’t always better.... Why fix something that wasn’t broken, just for the sake of change? I’ve lost all my bookmarks and I can’t find a way to mark where I left off, for a future read. Why???

App not working. App is not working properly. Ver annoying.

It’s good. It is good

Fun. Love the witty Relevant stories...

Readers Digest. Readers Digest is even more impressive when viewing on an iPad ... the colors are vivid ... readability is greatly improved ... day or night.

Nothing happens after clicking register your account. It asks for payment when I try to open this months issue Also nothing happens after clicking register your account

Can’t log in. Can’t log into the app

Can’t pinch and zoom. Got this for my mom but had to cancel as lettering still too small. Fix this and you’ve won a new faithful customer.

Load. Can’t get it to load on my iPad Pro

Doesn’t Work. Not sure why they even put this App out. Most of the time it just flat out doesn’t work. Sign in, sign out, it doesn’t seem to matter, you can’t download issues. I am a print subscriber also, at least that seems to work.

Louis Powell. My granddaughter renewed my Readers Digest and got me the online option! Why am I unable to sign in to the online option?

Top app. Very interactive, a real reading app.

Trusted media apps are horrible. I have 2 magazines that I get and have the same issue on both of them. Keeps wanting me to pay for issues and customer service is non existent. Like the magazines but may need to cancel.

Good old time companion. Good

Terrible. Signed up for the free trial and created login. When I trying to log in it said “We couldn’t find your details” but if I try to create an account again it says email already in use. Can’t access any articles. App does not work at all.

Totally Inaccessible. Anybody who's blind can't use this app. Screen readers can't read PDF pictures. We can't read it in Braille any more because it costs too much money to put it in Braille. I am a paid subscriber. I deserve the right to read RD.

Access and registration. It’s access and login is terrible and waste of time. I just hate dealing with it.

Good entertainment. I’ve loved RD since I was a kid. Gotta read all the jokes first!

Don’t subscribe. Unbelievably bad website and experience. Worst app of 2018

Double charging. Despite having a subscription good For 2020, it still charges me to download issues. I have reported the problem twice, now, and have received no response. Pretty pathetic.

Bring Back Bookmarks. I never read through an edition in one sitting. Please bring back the ability to bookmark a page so I can return to it rather than searching through already-read material.

Poor app. The app is great except my wife is visually impaired and the app does not allow you to magnify the page.

One of the worst apps I’ve ever loaded.. Subscribed. Set up an account. Tried to log in. Message says account doesn’t exist. Re-register. Message says account already there. Try to log in. Message says account doesn’t. Help is no help. Will be canceling my subscription and deleting this useless app

Not compatible with Apple. I have subscribed via Apple but this app will not restore my purchases

Cannot open. My RD description including free online RD. The app only opens to a page to purchase RD issues. I have contacted RD. No response.

Registration is impossible to navigate. I give up!!!!. Too bad

Crashes. Loaded the iPad version for one issue and it crashes every time I try to open it

Careful before subscribing. Content may be charged after a while. I have subscribed for a year but magazines are showing as charged after giving first two months free. Reported the problem twice on application support link but no one listens Be careful before subscribing

I love it!. Love the extra features, like the video vignettes and the web links and the interactive elements. It brings the print magazine to life! It takes a bit to download the whole issue, but it's not terribly long. I do wish the app was Retina display-motized, but it's certainly not a deal breaker. Keep the great issues coming! For those complaining about various things: As a print subscriber, you do get like 6 months of issues free, but after that you need to choose which one you want, the physical or digital issue. It's not going to free forever for you, nor should it be. For those who got the yearly subscription, you do have to go into the library section to download your new issues as they come available. They'll be marked Download and not "Buy". It's not going to download automatically for you, because then you'd complain about that. As for downloading it, ideally you should just wait for the whole issue to download before you start reading it. Start the download and put the iPad down and go do something for a minute.

Don’t subscribe via app store!. Reader’s Digest does not update their app for ipad, neither do they answer email or even have a working FAQ.

App. I read many magazines through their Apps. Readers digest app is certainly the best. Easy to navigate and very interactive especially the word power segment. Sohail Minhas

Restore Bookmarks - Article Order. Update May 2021 - Not only have bookmarks and my other suggestions been ignored but now the order of articles has also changed. I was using my print issue to keep track of where in the magazine I was up to. This month, the articles appear in some random order. In fact, the last article is now first in the e-e dition. Who is monitoring the quality control of the app? Another star subtracted from my review. I’ve been a subscriber to RD for 40 years. The latest version of the app is now what is called article based vs. issue based. I was reluctant to upgrade when I heard that bookmarks were eliminated. I called customer service before updating. I found out that I could not load the Nov-2020 issue until I updated so I had to do it. Its true that bookmarks are not included. Also, after closing the app and reopening it hours later, the issue opens back to the cover page, not to where I left off. Suggestions for improvement. 1. Please add bookmark functionality back into the app, 2. When the app opens, it should open to the bookmarked page (just like kindle reader). 3. Add the ability to zoom into a page with finger motions to make the page appear larger or ability to increase the font size. 4. Include page numbers so that I can match where I’m up to with my hard copy magazine. 5. Change verbiage on subscriptions page to indicate that digital access is included for the length of the print subscription. 6. Restore ability to archive issues you’ve downloaded and have fished reading. 7. Restore interactivity of Word Power.

Crashes. Received an issue that continued to crash and crashes as we speak. I reported this as a problem several times and they completely ignored me. I generally like the magazine but cannot recommend it due the lack of support.

So far, no go. I installed this app a day or so ago and so far have not been able to read anything on it. Why does it advertise that, if you have a print subscription, you get six months of the iPad subscription? One issue is shown as being available for download, but any other issues are available for $3.99 each. The one available for download has not actually downloaded at all yet. I'll update the review if and when this actually happens. Also, why do they issue a user name? Why not let us choose one that we could actually remember? I actually think this is a good idea for a magazine. I would think that emagazines should be included at no extra cost if you have a print subscription. That seems to be getting less common, but the emagazines issue should cost SUBSTANTIALLY less than print. If this is not the case, I will not be interested in the esubscription.

Digital edition. The Magazine is good but Customer service is not the best.

No politics. Take a break from the nonsense and enjoy READING.

Looks and feels like the magazine I have loved for 30 years. Thanks

Unacceptable Customer Service. I am unable to access my digital edition and have contacted Customer Service numerous times. It is time to cancel my subscription!

Rip off. I have a subscription and entitled to on line issues. I keep getting a charge of $3.99 when I try to read. Sent Readers Digest an email with concern. It has been over a month with no response.

Continuous problems with this app!!!!. Please fix your app. An error message keeps popping up when I try to log in. I’ve tried deleting and restoring the app to no avail. Extremely frustrating!!!!

Zero Customer service.. They will take your money every year and send you mountains of selling communications but will never help a customer. They IGNORE emails and there is NO phone number to call. Convenient for them. I am DONE with what used to be a great company.
