Updated paper. This app was good but since it updated it fails to load update newspaper. Do not waste your time . unsubscribe.

Don't download this!. Parts of the newspaper (paper version) are missing, in particular the weekly tv guide on Wednesdays. This app is little more than a downloadable version of their website. There are other apps out there which will give you access to the PDF version of the printed paper.

Useless out and about.. I usually want to read the paper when I’m out and can’t because it won’t download without wifi. Bloody useless.

Unable to read offline.. I anticipated that if I download the paper at home, I should be able to then read it offline on the bus or train but stupidly, the app wants to reconnect online before allowing you to open the app. Extremely frustrating and disappointing. Why bother having the download feature at all. Please fix.

Very Slow App. This app is far too slow. It can take more than a minute to download the stories. Not user friendly - particularly given the cost. Then you find out you have to resubscribe.

Mr. Disappointed!!! I was expecting it to be exactly the same as the paper and it's not. Save your money and go to web page which is free.

Waste of money used to enjoy reading the broad sheet. The app is not a good experience to read. Wont let you zoom text or most images The text is constantly covered on the screen by adds that are pushed at you, when you are reading. I used to enjoy the experience of reading the Mercury or the Courier but i am now looking T canceling my subscription as it is definately not worth it. Most images that are attached to the articles do not relate to that story Lots of irrelavent historical images

Too many advertorials. Each day there are multiple ‘news items’ that are actually advertisements for a book, magazine, or other product. This is particularly frustrating because it isn’t possible to stop these ads appearing. Give users more control over what they want to appear in the news feed.

Frustrating beyond words. Clicking on a link in the CM emails, I expect to be taken to the CM app to read the content. Instead, the app opens, then Safari opens - with only half of the article loading up. At the top of the page is the option to open the CM app - except, even this option results in the CM opening then Safari opening & displaying the content. To read the content in the CM app, one has to navigate to the content manually.

Unhappy. Do not like the new upgrade. Everyday I have problems downloading the paper. Font in comments too small making difficult to read. Sports headlines in Newstand seem to take precedence. Courier-Mail in general you need to update your news more frequently, quite often have to go to other news sites to get more up-to-date news.

Where has the Smart section gone.. We like doing the Shark quiz, it used to be under Lifestyle-SmartDaily. We have not been able to find it for w few weeks now, can you tell us when we can find it now? It is still there under Smart on the browser version, but not in the app (not that we can find anyway).

Doesn’t live up to its hype. I chose several columnists that I like reading. I can see their articles but not in chronological order. I did not choose sport but still hav3 lots of sport come up in my personalised feed. I get notifications on my iPad about articles I may like I click on them but never get to the article. Either ads or resign in or elsewhere. As a result no benefit over the old one other than it does seem to load more quickly. Now I have issues where I can’t load today’s papers for several days in a row.

Keeps shutting down. Hi to IT crew, Over the last two months, the CM app once opened, today’s edition downloaded and one commences reading the articles, it keeps shutting down and return from the paper to the main app on the screen. One has to reopen today’s paper and scroll through to where one was prior to it shutting down. The other associated papers on the tablet, eg DT, HS, Tville Bulletin do not shut down. Help!!!!!

Won’t accept feedback. The FAQ gives you instructions to provide feedback, however you follow these and you will find it does not exist. I turned off certain topics from providing push notifications, and yet I’m always receiving them about sport! And I can’t provide the feedback, cos they don’t give an option for that! Frustrating.

Remove Bugs and allow users to delete newspapers with an edit button. I have my preferences set, but the app still opens on to news I have no interest in. Can you really charge people good money for an app that functions poorly? Why does the app keep changing pages in the newspaper when I switch from one app to another on my iPad. I brought this up about two years ago and it’s still an issue. Why can’t you fix it? Why can’t the app have a single edit button and then you choose which newspapers you want to delete in the library rather than a delete button on each newspaper. If you don’t delete newspapers daily after reading them then you are in a big time wasting situation trying to delete each previous newspaper attempting to precisely tap with your finger the very tiny rubbish bin icon in the bottom right of the newspaper icon. If you don’t tap that bin icon exactly then the newspaper launches. It is the perfect time wasting exercise.

New update not user friendly.. We really dislike the new updates. Please return to previous updates which worked well. Pages often freeze, and navigation is much worse. How can you call it an update. Every change should have add ons which enhance the reader’s experience.

Annoyed considering it’s a paid app. No Search function, the comment sections often wig out and your normal text keyboard functions like auto correct don’t work in them. A search function would be handy especially as you read the paper daily and want to follow stories and see updates or return to old stories and need to go to google to find them instead of the app subscription you pay for. You can tell the journos are rushed to get stories out with an array of typos often, again it’s just annoying as you pay for the service. Comment sections are often turned off too especially when you are keen to see the consensus of the public on a matter. Yet on their socials they aren’t turned off. The app seems archaic for this day and age.

A REAL STEP BACKWARDS. The new format is awful. Hard to follow. All over the place. Cannot get breaking news in fact I now have to go to other websites. I am seriously thinking of unsubscribing. Used to love reading the courier mail - I now dislike it and am frustrated and irritated by your new site so much so that I’m now avoiding it. The old site was user friendly and easy to use. Revert back is all I can say or you are going to lose a lot of subscribers.

Very frustrating reading experience. This new version is frustrating in the extreme. The screen size is reduced to a third of the original size due to banners at the top and bottom that you cannot remove. If you leave the paper and come back to it later in the day, you aren’t simply taken back to where you were, you have to start all over again! You can no longer take a clipping and email it, there is no index for the sections in the paper (the “view pages” is NOT an index!) I started using this app because I was finding the paper edition difficult to read the small print, it used to be easy to read and navigate the pages. I have also found that when reading top stories, the app will constantly freeze, sometimes for several minutes. The whole reading experience is now so frustrating and most unpleasant. If it’s not broken, DON’T FIX IT!

No Search Function. In this day and age, most news apps have a search function. I should be able to click on a Section and a search bar should be there, so that I can put in a search word (e.g, Electric Vehicles) relevant to my research. And then it should bring up all articles in date relevance. Keep developing CM, you will get there.

App sticks all the time. The app used to be about four out of five. Now it is lucky to get a two. It regularly jams up. When you tap on a story the screen goes blank and there it stays until you get right out of the app. Very frustrating. I have not changed anything on my phone. They seem to have “upgraded” it and changed the positioning of the local stories too.

Text is too small. I'm disappointed that I was forced to update to the latest version on my iPad. I read new on my phone quite a lot, but I used to enjoy the pleasure of reading news on my iPad more because the text was bigger. It meant being able to quickly and effortlessly read the news. Now, even with the largest font setting the text is too small. I know I need an updated prescription but since my specialist is in Melbourne this really isn't an option any more. Please fix up the app ASAP so that the font size can genuinely be enlarged. Very disappointed. I doubt this passed accessibility testing.

Most annoying app I have. This is the most annoying app I have on my iPad. When reading the comments, up to about 23 of 45 and you inadvertently tap outside the comment panel it just closes and then you have to click comments again and scroll all the way back to where you were. So frustrating. Not surprised it has a rating of only 1.3, do you even care, it seems not as it’s had such a low rating for a very long time. After the delivery issues this is the last straw, sick of it so I will be cancelling my subscription.

Not a good experience. I don’t see how creating a digital format of a newspaper is that difficult! There’s plenty of competition to copy who do better. It’s really hard to keep track of which articles you’ve read. The app refreshes itself and you lose wherever you were in the app. Navigating between sections is difficult being buried in a menu. Articles repeat multiple times. Stories seem to jump different dates within a section. Just simply reproduce your newspaper in a more user friendly way and it’d 1000 times better.

Latest version is terrible. I have used the Courier-Mail app for a number of years and been generally happy with the content and layout, until the latest version. It is terrible, layout is difficult to view, setting up your areas of interest is cumbersome and stories are repeated over and over. I am looking to now to ditch my subscription and find something better.

Rubbish English. Since when has it been the norm to leave out whole words in a sentence? Don’t get me started on spelling, are the stories written by school kids? I guarantee in nearly every article there are grammar and spelling mistakes. I pay a premium price for the digital service and I want things to be correct, that’s not a big ask is it?

Lucky I can’t give Zero.. This is the worst version of the Courier Mail I have ever used. It is possibly the worst news app I have ever encountered. I loved the previous version. It was seamless, functional and precise. This version stinks. It is full of images. You can’t search. You can use it. Hate every aspect of it. Please go back to the previous version before we all find another way to get our news.

Disgraceful. I have just had the Courier Mail app updated on my iPad and it is an absolute disgrace! I love reading the paper but it seems to think I like football. I detest football, but of the 5 news items available they are the first two. No information on how to get the old news feed! If you’re thinking of subscribing - DO NOT Who came up with this ridiculous idea? I was forced to give a star rating, unable to give it zero!

DON’T SUBSCRIBE. The Courier Mail in general is an absolute joke. It feels like I’ve been sucked into a scam as you pay $28 every 4 weeks (not worth it at all in my opinion) and then if you choose to cancel your subscription, you can only do so by calling them during trading hours monday-friday. So as someone who works during those times and can’t even get through to customer service, I am continuing to pay this amount. It’s actually disgusting as it doesn’t seem like they care much for their customers time or finances, just as long as they get their money. It’s messed up how easy they make it to subscribe and how hard it is to unsubscribe.

Update or Breaking News. When I open up my personal selections the details on each section are mostly outdated, days old news often repeated in other sections… hardly updated to current status. Despite selecting my own suburb as Local it often covers items from other States. Similarly in the Sports sections which rarely cover what is expected - for instance Rugby is selected but contains so much NRL news; other examples are with the GPS section containing anything but, and more often than not what is shown is months out of date! Overall very poor management.

Massive Fail!. When I try to read the paper it tells me I’ve reached Members only content, and to subscribe or reactivate my Membership. Frustrating! Considering I have had a fully paid subscription for years When I do try to reactivate my account, I’m told I already have an active prescription! And round and round we go! I contact CM for help, only to be told to delete and reload the app- still no joy. I love paying for a service I can’t access!

Terrible app. The Courier Mail isn’t exactly a good newspaper. One just has to take not of the typos and spelling errors in nearly every article to know it has gone downhill. Now to add to frustration is the recent change to how the news is displayed in this already terrible app. It is confusing and feels like less stories are available. No world news anywhere, or if there is, it is hard to find. Layout is confusing.

A terrible upgrade. What a thoughtless upgrade! Don’t you test upgrades on a range of users? I was delighted to see that I could enlarge the print more, and comments were more readable. Then I tried to read the body of the articles, only to find that anyone with a modicum of visual impairment has no hope of reading them. I am now seriously thinking of cancelling this App and it’s stablemates. Surely you can do better?

Awful!. The updated version is awful. It reduces the amount of the newspaper that is visible on my iPad with the two white borders that run across the top and bottom of the screen. Previously if I wanted to open an article out of the paper there was a specific highlighted area to click on - that worked well. And then you changed it. Now if I accidentally touch an article - it opens up the article so I’m constantly having to close articles that I don’t want to read.

Update is useless - would give zero if I could. You used to be able to download the ‘print edition’then view it offline but it appears you need to have an internet connection now to view the print edition. Secondly the print edition used to fill the whole screen to the page, now there’s a banner across the top and bottom that you cannot remove so you get a smaller view of the page. Thirdly, when you double tapped before it would zoom to where you had tapped, now when you double tap it zooms to the top left hand corner regardless of where you tap.

Want sports news? Too bad you get it anyway!. I don’t know how “Based on what you read” 3 out 5 of the top listed ones are articles about sport since I don’t look at ANY sports articles. Why does sport come up in my front screen before real news like “Coronavirus”, “Brisbane” and other topics that are actually news and why can’t I unselect “Sport” completely. Sport is not news to everyone, I don’t care about the stupid behaviour of the latest overpaid footballer, I’d rather know about actual new in Brisbane before I ignore the sports section. Why is it so high on the list if it’s usually at the back of a hard copy newspaper. Please fix this or I’ll be canceling my subscription too.

Just keeps getting worse. Every time there is an update it gets worse to use. Do you actually listen to customers??? Latest update the sections I have marked Following are now not on my main screen. So I have to find it in the menu list about 4 sections in. Now I want to give feedback and the FAQ says how to do that. But that’s even missing now. There is no Feedback option…. Really poor update and clearly no testing…

New Courier mail app. I am sorry but this new app is by far inferior to the previous one. It is difficult to understand which items or which stories I have read because they don’t show up that way. Also old stories seem to stay there well after their time. I have friends who are having the same problem so I think you really need to address the situation.

Full page please. Why have you changed the page format, is it possible to have full page view on my iPad? The white border at top and bottom of the page is wasted space. It is almost impossible to read the print, it’s so small, I shouldn’t have to enlarge every story I want to read. Where is the clippings tool? Index was more user friendly in the top right hand corner. I don’t want to take the backward step of going back to the paper version. Come on be reasonable and give the subscribers what they are paying for not an inferior product, I’m very close to terminating my subscription and will do so if you don’t improve your newspaper.

Pathetic attempt. This app gets worse by the day. It is digital, why are pages of racing in the middle, cutting stories in half? Why does it cut off the bottom of the page? Why when you put it down for a while does it revert to page 1? Why? Don’t you have an app developer? You can’t even unsubscribe online, you have to telephone and wait for ages. Why? This is 2022. UPDATE This is now 2023, bottom of pages still cut off. Still racing in the middle, so annoying. Still can't unsubscribe online. Honestly you can do better.

Because I signed up on the web, the app doesn’t recognise that I am a paid subscriber. Because I signed up on the web, the app doesn’t recognise that I am a paid subscriber. I didn’t sign up through the App Store for my subscription, as the price was cheaper on the courier mail website. Now when I log in on the app, it says I am not a subscriber, even though I can access the full todays paper on the web. This app used to be better years ago. What happened? I find it easier to read the paper digitally when I am doing it from within the app, which was the whole reason I subscribed.

Font sizes not suitable for iPhone 7. There are very limited font size increments selectable and they are either too small where you need a magnifying glass or the next font size is so big that there is only three or four words per line. The app is very clunky to navigate, and generally quite disappointing compared to the previous version. Comment selection is so small in the bottom left corner, it is quite difficult to select.

Can’t download. Can’t download the paper each day. I live part time on a remote property with good internet most of the time but it often slows for periods. I normally download the paper so I can read it later without having to wait for pages to load. App will not allow me to download the paper at all now. Almost at the stage where I will cancel my subscription to avoid being frustrated by this useless app.

Won’t load and glitchy. This is suppose to be a company of highly qualified people well your digital paper has failed. You have links on Facebook and other media platforms but when you go to the app to read the article your site either doesn’t load or glitches and you can’t read it anyway. Time to get some IT Specialists in and rebuild a whole new site that works.

What a letdown. What a poor app from such a prestigious news group. I need to filter the news topics I want to read. I don’t think sport deserves the front and center of any page. The layout lacks continuity and we find ourselves just pecking around hoping we stumble on an interesting topic. My first reaction was to cancel my subscription and rely on TV news again however I have decided to wait a few weeks to see if anything changes first. Have the authors of the app thought of making a video to instruct users how to use the app.

Heavy on checkins. I have reduced the number of ‘points of interest’ that concern me as the resulting number of email messages was a flood. The real problem is that when I do respond to an email alert the web page reached is a teaser and I need to login each time. Add to that some problem with using my stored password and it is not a good experience. After experiencing smooth service from the WSJ online in my working years and few problems with my ‘Australian’ cover these days I think the setup needs attention. Firewalls are understandable but the subscribers need to be serviced smoothly.

New update failing!. Hi, I am extremely disappointed as only a week ago, I could read various articles easily. Now I find I click on an article and it freezes. I have to close it and restart the app. Even then I rarely can read the articles. I am also missing the ability to follow certain things like “cost of living” and certain regional centres on the main page. This is a backwards step. It would also be nice to have a search function to review articles of a certain subject. I hope you can fix these glitches.

App not working. I’ve had a subscription for many many years. Considering canceling. The app is ok for reading the newspaper as it appears in the print version but the regularly updated digital edition does not work as of recent times. You click on an article from front page and it comes up blank then freezes. You have to quit the app then. I’ve tried recommendations in the FAQ, switched on/off iPad, deleted and reinstalled app etc. I’ve contact paper by email, no response. 😠

Please get rid of the pop up ads. I do enjoy reading the paper, but those pop up ads on your app are very frustrating. They cover copy and you can’t get rid of them. I’m sure that’s the point for your advertisers, but the problem will be you’ll lose readers, as a result.

Terrible downgrade. I’ve been reading (and subscribing to) the Courier Mail digital for years and enjoy the experience of the replica on my iPad. Not any more. The new update has a banner too and bottom so the pages are a lot smaller and now require zooming in on each article. It’s a huge step backwards and just not a pleasant reading experience. Please revert back to the previous version of the app.

Cannot escape subscription. Do not subscribe to the digital Courier-Mail. I got sucked in by a click bait story but am now struggling to cancel my membership. You can join up online but need to ring to cancel. Then there is a long wait - minimum of half an hour according to their robot - and I’ve now given up (their intention no doubt) as I don’t have time. Very poor service

So far, I’m not enjoying it. The news and information and topics seem to be there, but so far I haven’t been able to work out how to arrange it the way I wanted. I was trying to give feedback via Contact US but could not find a suitable option. I would like to move my topics into a different order. Please tell me how

Unreliable (consistently). Over a year later and still absolutely hopeless. Now even the news stories are often stale and the attendance to punter comments is usually unattended. Frustratingly glitchy and unreliable. It used to work great but for many months it has been woeful and the App closes without warning. Even the comments section is no longer intuitive. The IT boffins or their masters need to be in the Centrelink queue. For a professional media App it’s a joke and we are looking at alternatives so we can cancel our subscription. Hands down the most unreliable App on my phone.

Appalling app, and it’s not even free to access. Most articles take such a long time to load its as if my wifi has stopped working (it hasn’t; I tested it). Most of the time I am obliged to abandon trying to read them. There are adverts in the middle of articles that actually cover up some of the text in the article! This in itself is unacceptable, but… WHY AM I SEEING ADVERTS IN AN APP THAT I HAVE PAID FOR??? Also, the comments section has recently been very hard to type in, like it’s treating typed text as if it’s a password or something. Is anyone with more than half a brain cell working in the app department?

Backward Step. The app is missing useful functionality from the previous version such as greying out articles already read, you cannot discern which articles you have read if you go in and out of the app over the course of the day. Again, there is no ability to search for an article in the mobile app. Too much screen realestate is taken up by the oversized image with every article, there is a sense of having to scroll interminably to read articles and then just give up as too onerous and cumbersome.

A backward step. The update is frustrating. Change for the sake of it. The previous version was simple enough and worked. The banners across the top were easy. There’s too much stuff. Reading the news is no longer a pleasant experience. It’s not easy or intuitive to use. I couldn’t even find the tab to download the digital paper version this morning. The update makes reading the news an effort, not something that I look forward to, or do out of habit anymore. I certainly don’t just flick on the iPad for a news update as often as previously. Can’t remember the last time I reviewed an app, but I had to say something about this update in the vain hope that it will be sorted out!
