Not that bad... .. Not having all the issues reported by earlier reviewers (i.e., no loss of previously downloaded data or subscription Identity, no mag purchase requests, etc.), but still slow on the download. It took 10+ mins to download a 202MB file--which is understandable given the heavy graphic content. BUT, another download returned an error message, then stuck me in a loop of the Shelby video, and wouldn't let me get back to the magazine editions. Uh... a little help correcting bug, please? Once downloaded properly, the reading experience is GREAT! The app really brings MT magazine home for easy reads anywhere. It's those initial hurdles that make the app frustrating, yet in the end... it's SO cool.

Great, fix bugs please!. I LOVE reading the motor trend on the iPad, especially with audio exhaust clips and the videos, but on the best 11 cars issue 7 out of 11 videos kept crashing the app and at least 5 of the photo galleries had only one picture and when I scrolled to the right it took me to the next article instead of showing me the next picture. Other than the couple glitches it is awesome, and IMO the best way to read a magazine. I have never been a magazine subscriber but I would buy a yearly subscription if you fixed the glitches! It also would be cool to highlight and send stuff to friends like you can do when reading a iBook.

Great and garbage at the same time. Motor Trend should be embarrassed by a half baked app like this. When I can actually and eventually download the current copy, it looks great. However, the app keeps prompting me to Activate' my account and after doing so, it tells me that my account has already been activate and shows me as logged in but when I try to access the library, it prompts me to 'activate' my account and continues in an infinite loop. It's a shame that Motor Trend has such a wonderful magazine for the iPad but it won't let subscribers access the latest issues. I will have to read the hard copy that arrived yesterday. Don't waste your time.

Motor trend. I have been a fan of motor trend for the past 20' yrs. I have it delivered to my home every month. I have enjoyed when, Angus MacKenzie, I do enjoy Edward Loh. I think it's time for motor trend. To go back to Its roots .its nice to hear all about the really high end cars. But a lot of your readers are not millionaires, can you start giving some good reports on the average working man wages, During the tough times, that this country Is working ,it' way out .i have a jeep grande chorine, 2001 it's a very good . This is the first time I have read it on the Ipad

Didn't crash during evaluation!. Wow I paid for a subscription that I often cannot read! This is like paying for a magazine and receiving it after the lawn mower has run over it. Has media that is unwanted... If I wanted a stupid media opening I could order a video. Really? Just give me something to read with simple pictures. Your electronic magazine is overworked with video, and animations that just aren't needed and quite frankly buggy. I'm letting my subscription end due to the interruption of my music (which occurs when you dumb and unneeded video occurs). Really? Video in a magazine ...jeez ....over done buggy Application crashes more than a redneck in a Mazarati. I should ask for my subscription back...I haven't due to the fact I probably wouldn't get it. Thanks for nothing except frustration and a buggy over worked application.

Now charges print subscribers?!!!. I used to be a big fan of this magazine app, because I loved being able to take the digital copy with me on my iPad while leaving the print copy at home. But recently the app has begun asking me to either renew my subscription or pay to buy the single issue -- despite having a print subscription that is still valid thru December '12. Supposedly print subscribers get the digital issues as part of their subscription, but the app seems to have forgotten that. This is very frustrating and disappointing, and the many other poor reviews here show that I am clearly not alone.

Awesome&Great. Probably the greatest iPad app so far. So good I recommended that my brother get an iPad so he could use this app (we're both MT subscribers since kids). same goes if you have the iPad and no MT subscription. Get it! I'm glad MT did this and is ahead of the game. So many mags don't even have an app, MT has full feature, multimedia (hear a Lambo rev, see a mustang lap a race course), and an apple-like interface. I love it!!!!!

Motortrend. Always show details and facts about rating the best automobiles on the planet with nice photos of the automobiles and how much they sale and the comparison of them all together.

When it works, it's great. Ok, when I first downloaded motortrend I had iOS 4 and it would not recognize my credentials. After the update to iOS 5 I was finally able to log in and the experience is what magazines should be with an iPad. You get the great articles along with photo collections and great videos. Well, that's great, when it works. Now the problem is I cannot download new magazines. I know once motortrend gets things worked out it will be a 5-star app, but for now I'll leave it at 2. FWIW I am a print subscriber which states I should have access to all iPad editions.

Offline. Won’t download magazines to the device for off-line reading

My MT. Great content

Unfair. I don't think it's fair that you can restore the purchased magazines ONLY if you are a subscriber. I have bought a couple of editions as non-subscriber in order to see whether I want to be a subscriber or not. But after an update, all the magazine that I have purchased went missing. Each edition cost me $4.99 unlike the $1.99 a subscriber pays for. So, a subscriber pays less AND gets to restore the purchased editions. Whereas, I, payed a lot more and cannot restore the previously bought edition. That is truly unfair. Evo Magazine on the other hand, actually "remembers" all the magazines I buy, which makes it possible for me to restore them. And only for that, I have become an EVO magazine subscriber owing to their fair and honest business conduct. Unfortunately, Road & Track, T3, Automobile, Robb Report, Motor Trend, and Car and Driver Magazine are all the same. Actually Robb Report is even worse because one edition of Robb Report cost me $7.99. I rarely take time to write a review but this time I felt ripped off and had to share this with others.

Bring back my ipad version!. I have been a subscriber to the motortrend app since it started and it has been great. I loved being able to click on the pictures and scroll through them in articles and even watch some embedded videos and sound clips. I liked this app much better than print because it was much easier to read and enjoy. I even donate my print magazines to a local hospital and just read the app but I can't stand the scans of the magazine. They took away everything I loved about it and made it hard to read. Motortrend will you just look at your app rating. It's terrible and you are losing business. I would think that is a sign to do something about it. You updated and made a iPhone app for people that didn't even need it. Change it back!

Crashes DO NOT BUY. This app is useless! Bought Feb issue and it crashes so often I can't even read the issue. Worst yet I called the MotorTrend costumer service to ask for a print issue or refund and they we so rude, told me it was not their problem but iTunes problem. Which is fine except the person actually got mad at me for asking. Had to ask for a supervisor who has yet to call me back after 2 days. I have been a MotorTrend customer for 10 yrs and will never buy another issue again!! MotorTrend can see from the reviews this is a bad app yets it's been months and no update! Just bad business.

The best of both worlds. I have been a subscriber to the print version for a few years and love it. Then when I got an iPad I saw in the magazine that I can get the iPad version for free, so I decided to give it a try...I mean why not, right? I'm certainly glad I did! The iPad version is simple to navigate has really cool extras like videos and high resolution images as well as occasionally some articles you you don't find in the print version. When I receive the print magazine the digital version is not available yet, not too surprising, so I read it and when finished download the electronic version and see what more they have included. I love it as I am not one who enjoys reading long articles/papers on a screen. Once you have read an article and follow it up with the movie, you're hooked... Hearing the tire squealing and the engine whaling you get the sense of what the author was saying in the article. The Lamborghini Aventador piece is a perfect example. And if you have issues tell the publisher so they can fix it... No one correct what they do not know about.

Crashes every time!. What happened to this app? When it first came out it worked great (a couple years ago now). As time went on it got worse and I would rarely use the app due to frustration. As a print subscriber I was mostly satisfied to not even use the app until the "Title Fight" issue came out and I wanted more content. The app keeps crashing and wants to download every time I want to open it. I tried to download all this past years issues and that's impossible. What the heck are you guys doing? Most of the reviews are negative and clearly it's not just me. Please fix this ASAP. I hope Ed Loh or Angus M. are reading this! I hope you guys can help because if half the people can't watch the extra content you do on the app, what's the point in making it?

App doesn’t work. The new app doesn’t work if you use iTunes to subscribe. The directions that they give you to sign up again do not work and no one responds to email help inquiries. I tried to resolve it on the phone but got the run around. Do not subscribe to this. The Developer’s response was not helpful. I took another week of me trying to contact them (there is no phone #) and then they finally emailed me. Their suggested fix in the email did not work and I let them know that and asked them to call me. That was 2 days ago and I still have no response. So, it has now been over 2 weeks of me trying to get access and none has been provided. The app simply does not work at all.

Subscription pricing is ridiculous. I've been a longtime print subscriber, and I've never paid more than $12 for a year subscription, and in the last few years, I've paid far less (as little as $6 a year). How do they justify $20 a year for a virtual iPad edition? Zinio still lets you subscribe for $7.50 a year, a much more reasonable rate. I don't know what will happen with Zinio as Apple starts to enforce it's in-app purchase rules for apps, however. One of the main reasons I bought an iPad was to switch my magazine subscriptions to electronic and eliminate the clutter in my house from all the print magazines, but this pricing is very, very disappointing.

Why complain?. I downloaded the app and I think it is great. It offers interactive features and color photos beyond what one would get in print. To all the people complaining about having existing subscriptions and having to pay $20. Seroiusly? You mean you paid $500-$700 for an Ipad and you are complaining about paying $19 for a magazine subscription? It cost $20 to take your lady/man to the movies and you are over that in 2 hours.

Great mag worst app ever. The app is the worst. Stories are incomplete, when they download. With magazines vanishing you would think the app would be better….car and driver anyone.

A giant leap forward! Thanks, Motor Trend!. I’m a digital subscriber since 2013 and one of those who complained the most when in 2015 (?) the app became a simple PDF reader. Before that, the app was one of the best on the market, with proper digital contents, pictures and videos in full screen mode, sliders for the technical info, etc... it was, in my opinion, second only to the National Geographic iPad app which is fully interactive. Now, with this just released version (finally also iOS 11 compatible), we’re back to a responsive design that’s easier to read, pictures that can be zoomed to full page... it’s still not as good as the 2013 version, but I’m happy with this giant step forward. I can finally enjoy MT on the iPad again, thanks!!!

Subscribers please note. I am amazed at how many people seem to think this should be free as they already subscribe to the print edition. There is so much more in the iPad version than you get in the subscriber print copies. Video, audio, photo galleries, extra stories and additional content in most stories with lots of interactivity. Got to be worth the price of admission at $3.99 surely? Very cool cover swipe feature on this first edition to reveal Car of the Year.

Better than the paper copy. I have been reading MT for about 50 years and since the paper version has gone highly stylized with dark pages and light type, I have had a very hard time reading the magazine. the IPAD version Uses black type on a white background which I can actually read. The content is the same, but the ability to zoom text and images makes reading MT enjoyable again.

App so out of date. I’ve been a subscriber forever yet the app often doesn’t let me open new issues.

Looks like a Cadillac, runs like a Vega.. I've been struggling with this app since it went live. I have yet to get it to work as designed or function consistently. Some of my experiences include: - Freezes - Crashes - When, and if, you try to advance, sometimes it stops and closes at the same place, over and over again. - Scrolling issues, can't ever press twice on the same spot on the screen, and expect the same result. - Did I say Crashes? (Sure glad I'm not paying the insurance, I'd be canceled). Because of these issues, it requires almost too much effort to use. I keep trying, hoping, someone will kick the tires and check the power windows before it reaches the showroom. Another issue, the opening is annoying. It's like buying a 70's Jaguar, looks pretty and when it works, it works great! After a while, however, you can't wait to see what breaks next. Thank goodness I have a monthly "paper manual" to back me up. But hey, the pictures are pretty, and when it works, you keep hoping it will last. I keep hoping this Pinto won't crash, explode, or require a government bailout! I'm just disappointed, since the magazine is so great, and this format has so much potential! Too bad it acts like a Vega, not a new Cadillac. At this point, i have to admit, I'd be happy if it worked like a Chevy!

This app barely works. When I try to make a account it doesn’t let you which means it won’t let me use it and I cant horrible app don’t suggest this Down car magazine if you are looking for a good car news source

I give up. Why is it suddenly impossible to download my new issue? "Try again later" has been the response for two days now and, after trying everything (including a totally futile attempt to talk to customer support) I give up. Attempting to even sign out and sign back in again got me the same " unable...try again later". The electronic version of MT is now merely a PDF and it lacks all the features I once enjoyed. In addition to a magazine editorial policy that has a bias toward young, tech oriented readers (I'm tired of the ageist wisecracks...) I am deleting my E-magazine and I will not be renewing my current subscription.

It's okay. There's better mag apps out there but this one isn't bad. The biggest issue I have with this is the image quality. Not sure if it's just not retina (iPad 3) supported and would look good on other devices or if the app developers just got lazy. A few other minor gripes too but none worth mentioning. As for the good, it sports a lot of similar features as other mags. Like video, full screen images, and what not. If you like motor trends writing style in the printed magazine then you'll like this as well. I didn't subscribe but bought one issue. So I am limited to one experience and can compare it with other mags I've bought or sub'd too. Hope this helps you.

Awesome magazine!!!. I just subscribed to the print edition and was thrilled to also get the iPad version. I hope that MT continues to offer print subscribers the iPad versions because I like the flexibility of having both versions at the very reasonable price of 10 bucks per year. Now I can read my print copy, give it to a family member and still have the digital copy to go back to. Also, have this on my iPad makes it awesome for travel. The app itself is beautiful and well set up. It navigates much better than other digital car mags and offers additional content over the print copy. I was tempted to use Zinio, but having more than just digital scans makes this app more appealing IMO. I am very impressed with MT and this app. That says a lot since I am picky about apps I use on my gear and delete many apps within minutes of downloading them. Apps like this make me like my iPad even more! Thanks Motor Trend! Keep up the good work!

Terrible company. I have this Motor Trend app from this company and the ESPN magazine app from this company. Surprise surprise, both are TERRIBLE. Want your issues to update every month? Probably won't happen. Want to logout to see if that helps? Now the apps won't even accept account information that was just logged in minutes prior. Ok lets reset password, maybe that'll help. Nope! "An email has been sent to your email with a new password" no it really hasn't. So now I'm apparently stuck paying for both ESPN and Motor Trend without access to either on my ipad... It's a guessing game as to when "customer service" will actually help me. Don't download if you ya know... You want what you're paying for!

A giant step backwards!?. First, the positive: This latest update allows the app to work if you have iOS8. Before this, it would crash every time and you'd have no access to your magazines. Now, the negative: A few months back, the iPad edition took a giant step backwards and my hopes for a return to that excellent app have been dashed with this latest update. How can TEN decide that going from a terrific version of the magazine for the iPad with landscape formatting, interactive features, full screen slideshows and imbedded video to a version that looks like a PDF copy of the paper mag be a good thing!? I understand that a magazine needs advertising to survive. There's no way $10/year is paying for a magazine's cost. So if that's the problem, I'd be more than happy to have ads in my interactive iPad version. Just bring it back, or risk losing your subscriber base for magazines that do embrace the digital age, starting with me... UPDATE: A year after the last interactive issue and we're still stuck with an on-screed "PDF" of the paper magazine. I dropped my subscription to Automobile for this reason, and I'm about to drop my Motor Trend subscription and move to Car And Driver which still embraces modern interactive magazines on the iPad. Way to go Source Interlink/TEN.

Needs work. It took a long time for the app to be updated to support iOS11 and the current version has a nice overall look and feel to it. But the biggest most annoying bug is that it doesn’t remember the page you left off on or the other settings you left the magazine in. For instance, if you flip it to the more tablet-centric view of the magazine and flip to night mode and then go check your email and come back, the app has already forgotten which specific magazine in your library you were in, what page you were on, and what view you had configured. So, this app is “ok” if you are pretty much willing to read the magazine cover to cover in one sitting.

Disappointing iPhone version. I love this app on the iPad. The magazine looks great and has awesome interactive features. However, I recently replaced my iPad with an iPhone 6 Plus, and I have to say I'm quite disappointed. The awesome interactive version on the iPad is replaced by what seems to be just a PDF of the print version on iPhone. You have to zoom in to see the text and it's just too static. No videos, no interactivity, just pictures of the print version. National Geographic does fine with both the iPhone and iPad versions of their Newsstand app, including interactive versions on both, so I don't know why Motor Trent can't either. Definitely canceling the yearly digital subscription I've had for years due to the awful reading experience on the iPhone.

Cant get a dital copy. I subscribe to the print version but cant seem to figure out how to get it on my ipad. Not as easy as one would think. When you sign in with you print info one would think it would either give you the password or let you make a password but it dont. Not sure how this is suppose to work was looking forward to bringing my copies along with my on my flight tomorrow but looks like ill have to pack the paper copies instead. Until its fixed i think ill give it 1 star because all i can do is download the app. Ok got the app to finally work. After rebooting my iPad it gave me an option to then login with my subscription info in the upper right hand corner of the app where it shows the mags for purchase and then it let me make a password. The app it's self seems to be off like its not fitting my screen which is weird. It's like it's not centered.

App stinks. Actually your app might be fine but your access path leaves a lot to be desired. Your sign-on requires a temporary password. Why? You do supply a path to get a temporary pw but it has characters that could be an O or it could be a zero. It also has a 1, or is it an upper case i? Neither of these characters should be in a temporary password created by a third party. (Don't know what you are thinking) I'll give you one more chance and to hell with you if it doesn't work. Don't really need your app nor your mag for that matter. Too many other good choices available. Sorry, but your problem, not mine.

Great Content; Horrific App. While the magazine content and features are outstanding, the app quality is astonishingly bad. Most of the time, I can't even make it past the table of contents without it crashing. Of course, even then I'm lucky if I can even get the app to download the content in the first place. Content is in the 600MB+ range. I have to keep the app open the entire time that its downloading. If I do ANYTHING other than sit on the boring main library page, the app stops downloading the content. It's exceptionally trying to say the least. Reading a magazine should not be this painful. If it wasn't for the outstanding magazine content, I'd have purged this excuse for an app from my device a long time ago. MotorTrend: please keep up the amazing reporting, put please, PLEASE drop the company that wrote this app and get someone that can do your brand the justice it deserves. This app severely lets down even your most loyal of subscribers and is honestly an embarrassment.

Love this magazine. Let me start by saying that I have never taken the time to write a review, but after reading so many negative reviews about this app I felt compelled to take the time to give my opinion. I have to say that I really don't understand what these other people are talking about with all the issues. I have been reading this digital magazine for 3 years now on my iPad and never had any problems at all. Awesome magazine!

Love Motor Trend, hate this app. It took me about 12 seconds once I downloaded this app to realize that I don't want it anymore. Now I have to go figure out how to turn off my subscription. Publishers have to realize that the National Geographic app is the gold standard, and any serious Magazine app has to provide equal or better features than NG. I would gladly pay $20/yr for a MT iPad magazine that was more than simply the hardcopy magazine scanned in and showing on my screen. It's pathetic and frustrating. My hardcopy subscription to Motor Trend has lapsed, that's why I was at the App Store and find out if they had a suitable electronic replacement. They don't. So I guess, motor trend won't be getting any of my money until they figure out how to "wow" their audience with a digital product. Oh, and one more thing- going to the App Store and finding three distinct motor trend apps was another very confusing experience. There should be one app for motor trend, not three. Roll all content into a kick-butt single app.

Crashes unacceptable. I want to like the motor trend app as a long time print subscriber, but it seems like I can't even finish reading half of the articles because they will reliably crash at the same spot every time. No amount of redownload, reboot, reinstall will fix this problem, which affects pretty much every issue I've tried. For an app that's been out this long there's just no excuse for it to be this buggy. Very disappointing. Another annoying thing is that for the life of me, i cant figure out how to scroll to a specific page, not just the first page of an article. It would be better if they just let us download a PDF instead of this terrible app.

Rip off. Yesterday I purchased a 1year subscription to the iPad Motor Trend magazine. After purchasing the 1 year subscription I opened the back up and went into the library to read this months issue but it was not there. In fact there was nothing there at all in my library. I tried to buy the 1 year subscription again thinking I did not do it correctly but the app informed me I already paid for it. I closed the app and reset my iPad thinking it was aerator error but still nothing in my library. After contacting apple and the pervader I ended up getting a refund from apple. I'm not sure what went wrong but I will not be paying for this magazine again.

Terrible App. I have a print subscription and have not been able to access the digital version for a very long time through the app. The first time I had problems resetting the password-the link I was sent to wouldn’t let me reset. Now, I can reset the password but when I go to log in after reset it tells me the password is invalid. I have done this several times as well as delete and reinstall the app. At a loss now on how to get this to work. Emails to the help email have gone unanswered.

Broken. I logged out of the app to try and get access to my magazine. Now I can’t log back in. Followed the procedure to reset password. Still no dice. Guess I have to go back to my paper copy. Motor Trend is all about automotive technology, but digital technology, not so much. Update: The email address is case sensitive for logging in. This doesn’t seem necessary. Still have issues with the app not remembering where I left off. Have to remember to always bookmark before closing the app. Many times I have to relog to get the app to realize I am a subscriber. Updated rating from one to two stars.

Doesn't work. I downloaded app. Couldn't authenticate, had to call, finally got signed in, but issues won't download. And the latest magazine even available, although she told me the June issue has been available for a month. I tried to download May issue, tells me to try later. Why can't magazine companies get the downloads to work right?

Unable to download. Cannot download august edition, check my apple subscription and called apple support and they were not able to find out what was causing the problem other than my subscription was cacelled( I did not cancel it)

Microtransactions. Gotta subscribe to even use this app. I’ll stick to free car news apps

IPad edition frustration. To all of the frustrated print subscribers out there, I finally figured it out after several days how to get the free iPad edition. When you download the motor trend app and start the app, you go to the store and on the right side of the screen after you scroll all the way down to the bottom you will find a little bitty button called "existing print subscribers". Push that button and it takes you to the sign up page and after that it works very well. Love the iPad edition, just very frustrating trying to get signed up.

Wow! Just wow. Ok so ive been a subscriber for like 100 years or at least since i was like 14 and realized i needed to know everything about cars cause i was way behind. Now viewing these mags for free on the ipad with my current subscription is amazing!!! I do have high speed internet though (like most people do) and it takes like a tenth of a second for the vids to download. I am assuming of the people who are complaining that they have like slow speed internet? Either way i love ipad and i LOVE motortrend!!!

Motor Trend Did It. Motor Trend has fully embraced the digital age by leaving behind the antiquities of print publication and designing their iPad app to stand out, not only from print magazines, but from most apps on the iPad. Offerings such as videos, detailed interviews, and gorgeous high res images with interactive elements shine on the retina display. They have created the quintessential mold for which all digital magazines should follow. Simply put, this is an app worth paying for.

Offline viewing. Rarely allows offline viewing even though the magazine appears fully downloaded

What are they thinking?. This is an app created by lazy people. I have been a subscriber to at least six car magazine simultaneously for decades. This “magazine” just makes me angry, every single time that I attempt to use it. I have gone from an iPhone 6+, to a 7+, to an X. In all of this time, this so-called “magazine” app has possibly gotten WORSE. I am old. My eyes aren’t good. I would like to have the delightful experience that I get from Car and Driver on the iPhone: I would like to have the ability to view the text as a scrollable option. I do NOT like to have to pinch-and-zoom-and-scroll. So tedious. I would like it to REMEMBER where I left off. Is that so hard? After the first fifty times, having to flip through pages to get to my last viewed page is a chore. What is wrong here? Does nobody on staff care about subscriber satisfaction? Not to mention: I subscribed for a year. Got one edition, and now it refuses to show me my newest, next edition, because it thinks that I am a stranger. Even though my email informs me otherwise. This app is trash.

Absolutely Ridiculous and Worst App Update Ever. if I could give zero stars for this new motor trend app update then I would. it was a great app on the iPad, but whoever decided to make this compatible to the iPhone should probably get fired. Who wants to read magazines on the iPhone anyways? This app is best served for the iPad. if the developers would want an app for the iPhone, then they should have made and developed a separate app for the iPhone. Now they just completely ruined the iPad app. shame on Motor Trend. Please fix this screw up and go back to the original setup.

Getting Better - Sometimes Too Fancy. I appreciate the app for pushing the tech publishing envelope, but in many cases, the info is presented in flying tables, columns that constantly needing swiping, and other overly flashy multimedia displays that do little to enhance the experience. The embedded video is great, but don't let the technology for its own sake control the experience. Technology should enhance, not detract.

Terrible. Strictly an review of the app, not the magazine or contents thereof. Whoever developed this didn't bother putting any effort into it. It's as if someone just scanned the magazine into PDFs and stuffed all the pages into it. Unless you have eagle-eye vision, you have to CONSTANTLY zoom in and out just to read and flip through it. I have quite a few magazines on my iPad and this app feels 5 years behind the curve. I purchased a subscription and read through a dozen pages and promptly turned off the Auto Renew option.

Extremely poor support. When the app decides to forget you, there is little to no help in getting access to the magazine. The current issue (and given this is happening to both car magazines supported by 'The Enthusiast Network' this is likely an app developer problem). However resolution is completely unavailable and this reflects on the choices of the magazine. This is the fourth time this has happened. A very poor showing.

A store to buy Motor Trend, that I already pay for. Wait a second, let me get this straight. The app is a store, where I can buy iPad versions of Motor Trend for 3.99 each? That's funny, I already pay for a full subscription and it's mailed to my house. Now they want me to pay again? Motor Trend, please think about your business model and try again. If you want to see how to do it right, check out The Economist for the iPad. Since I have a subscription to The Economist, I get the iPad version for free. As I should.

Nice content but needs work. Previous iPad version was more readable this version is certainly a step backward. I never know when it is going to acknowledge my on- line subscription when I bring up the app. Why can't I just view one page at a time in landscape version without resizing each page. Your content is mostly worth the frustration of using the app

A jumbled mess. This is 5he second month I’ve downloaded a jumbled mess of non-sequential pages. Several articles are missing pages. Others are repeated. The table of contents doesn’t take you to the page you tap. And, the text feature simply never loads. As currently configured, this subscription is a total ripoff. April 9 update: worked fine this morning. But now I get a blank, white page whenever I open an issue. Still a total ripoff.

Hey Motor Trend, throw a bone to your print subscribers. I'm a longtime print subscriber to Motor Trend so when I saw inside the cover of the just-arrived Jan '11 issue that there's an iPad app I rushed to download it. How disappointing to discover that they're going to charge me $4 to gain access to the iPad version of the issue I'm currently holding in my hands in print form. Motor Trend - please do this right! Give print subscribers digital access! Heck, I'd even be willing to swap my print copy entirely for a subscription to the new digital version.

How Bad is This?. What should be a show-piece of e-publishing prowess is a mess of hashed together clips and ads, ads, ads. It only works in landscape, the stupid "splash page" makes you wait to watch it before you can start reading, and the navigation is horrendous. I've almost given up on e-mags because of the terrible layout, responsiveness, and huge memory hog they end up being. The waiting for the downloads and general sluggishness ruin the whole experience. Magazines are one thing I still prefer to handle as print. And this one is really bad. Running on iPad 1, so that might be a cause of my disdain.

Great app. If you read the magazine you'll love the app. Synching my subscription was easy and the electronic version has a great layout with integrated videos and animation you won't find in the paper version. Definitely recommend to any car enthusiast.

Very Cool. This is a really cool app. I've always liked Motor Trend over other car magazines and with this app it makes it even better. It feels like like reading the magazing, except it includes videos and high definition photos that expands with the touch of a finger. I highly recomend it!

AWESOME!!!!!. Being a long time subscriber, this gives me the ability to view videos (if available) of my favorite articles. The high resolution photos are great. I can't think of anything to improve on. Thank you for giving your LOYAL subscribers a great additional benefit to an already great magazine!

Planning on updating anytime soon?. Doesn’t work with iOS 11. Why? Fix this or refund my subscription, please, because right now I’m paying for something I can’t access. Response to reply: Good to know. Thank you for responding. My concern is this, though: iOS11 SDK has been available since June. Why is the update happening now, well after final iOS11 release, instead of BEFORE? Intended or not, it gives the impression subscriptions (and subscribers) are unimportant and we all know that isn’t true.

Not easy to use. This app has been frustrating. Navigation is difficult--I think it's over-engineered (like so much of our technology today, especially that found in automobiles ironically). Also, when I boot up the app it goes to the last issue I was reading which is fine, but I couldn't figure out how to navigate to a different issue. Very frustrating.

When it isn't crashing, the content is great. I love Motor Trend, but the app literally crashes every page or two. Even on the 4th gen iPad, it feels like the iPad is struggling to move from page to page and eventually the whole app crashes. Every turn of the page is like a game of Russian roulette - "will page 14 make this whole house of cards come crashing down?" is a common thought that will pop into your head as you read this magazine.

Why the bad rep??. been an apple user for 5+years, FIRST review I've ever written and only because i read so many bad reviews !! This app has zero to NO ADS, sooooo many new car articles uploaded weekly and daily, videos etc. great in-depth articles and the app works pretty much flawlessly. Can't complain. Download it 😁😁

Crashes a lot. Not worth the effort.. Nice idea, but repeated crashes make it too frustrating to bother with. I'll just stick with the print version. Also, it was much better when MT started doing an iPad version. It had a lot of great video content and other features that took advantage of the iPad medium. They must have cut back on the project, because there's now little difference between the paper magazine and the iPad version. It's too bad that most of the cool stuff is gone.

Layout. I wish the app read more like a magazine as far as layout. Instead of swiping up on the article; I feel you should swipe across like you're turning a page. Also the order of articles is different from the print copy of the magazine. Love the content of the magazine -second to none. Just thought I would leave some feedback.

Good App. I really like this app compared to other iPad-based magazines. I especially like the way it lets me page down to dive into an article or page left to right to preview. Very well thought out. I don't have a lot of leisure time so removing frustration with a well thought out interface goes a long way with me.

Pretty Darn Good. I don't get all the bad reviews. I subscribe to the hardcopy and get the iPad version free. I prefer the iPad version. True, it takes about 10min per issue to download, but I do it prior to wanting to read it and it downloads in the background. I also subscribe to Car and Driver (hardcopy) and they want me to pay full price for the iPad copy also, no thanks, will not renew Car and Driver when it runs out.

Randomly shuts down. I finally decided to try the mobile app in addition to my paper copy and was pleasantly surprised at first. The graphics are very clear with high resolution. I found that navigation through the pages was a bit odd at first since you must flip through pages both down and side-to-side. Aside from that minor learning curve, the biggest annoyance is the (constant) crashing. Please fix this, Motortrend! I'll be sticking to my paper copy since that one has yet to randomly close on me and end up on my nightstand.

Frustrating!. The "Existing Subscriber" option for existing print subscribers DOES NOT WORK! I tried entering my existing print subscription acct. info & the app does nothing. Each time I try re-entering the info, I receive a message "Invalid Email Address". I have verified all info I entered several times (incl. email address). This has been a frustrating waste of time. Motor Trend... test your app before releasing it. The app also breaks a ton of Apple's recommended interface guidelines, such as forcing landscape view, clearing text fields, etc. Bad experience, & doesn't work for existing print subscribers.

It's digital not print. Why after all these years in digital form, that when you read the magazine in landscape orientation, does it have a divider on the page as if it was a paper magazine spine? Also pics used to be interactive, you could click and zoom, now no longer.

Downgraded. So the app is now exactly identical to the print magazine, and is no longer optimized for the iPad. The font, pages, advertisements, and details all mimic a format that it is not on, and is a serious step backwards from the entertaining and easy to read for,at it was previously in. I will definitely be terminating my subscription unless they decide to start producing content that takes advantage of the medium again.

It's great. It seems like there are a bunch of whining babies out there. If you subscribe to the print version you get the digital one to. Which, by the way is awesome. The pictures, videos and tap for more info is excellently laid out. If you want a free magazine write one.

Crashing constantly, no background downloads. Took me almost a week to download due to traveling and no fast wifi connections...are you kidding me? I'm fine with starting an app and then starting the download (but wasn't the whole idea behind newsstand that you could download without having to do this?), but this thing has to be the ACTIVE app in foreground to download...500 mb...sit and wait, or read old issues. Not good Then the crashes...finally get it downloaded to find that COTY took 14 tries to get through the whole story. Really awful guys...

Old favorite is new star. I have loved Motor Trend as long as I have loved cars. An emotional trip that began with the purchase of a 1954 Pontiac for $25 in 1969 when I was 15. My IPad has helped fuel my passion and the excellent Motor Trend app ties it all together and gives this retina display something to go wild about. Thank you.

Airplane Mode. Don't know what happened, for the last year this app has worked fairly well but now it doesn't work. The only time I have to read it is on an airplane, and now for some reason it doesn't work in airplane mode. It loads the Motor Trend logo then jumps back to the Book Rack. I have tried loading different issues back alas......no luck Works fine when I have WiFi connection....... Guess I should be thankful I bought the Digital and Hard Copy option.

App had promise. I was going to switch my subscription to this only, but the app has not worked right since May. Obviously the good folks at Motor Trend either are incapable of fixing it or just do not care. This wonderful app that held so much of the promise of the future of magazines is just a big hole now. I hold out hope for the return to the interactivity and first-rate video that let us see and hear the cars...instead they are sending me back to old-fashiond print for now. FIX THIS CRASHING MESS, MT, PLEASE!!

My favorite app... That NEVER works!!!. I absolutely love the content with this app, and as a print subscriber, that I have electronic access to all of my issues. Yet as great as the magazine looks on the ipad, I'm constantly frustrated by the fact that it ALWAYS CRASHES! I've tried resetting my settings, and even deinstalled and reinstalled the app. Every time I open it, though, it's just a countdown to when the screen will go black and my home screen will appear. VERY frustrating that I can't enjoy the magazine that I love so much!

Motor Trend. I like the app. It has excellent video, pictures and brings the magazine to life. The not so good. It is slow to download, crashes sometimes, and navigation is not intuitive. Overall, I feel this is a great compliment to the magazine, but nothing beats finding Motor Trend every month in my mailbox. It's like ice cream, always brings a smile.

TERRIFIC !!. Just the fact that its included for FREE with the paid subscription would be enough to give it five stars (when their competition wants you to pay twice), but it has everything that the print copy has plus videos! It compliments the print copy but doesn't replace it, IMHO. Perfect for the airports or when traveling.

Now works with iOS 11!. Overall, this new version is an improvement. It works with iOS 11, and the new features are helpful. If you’re a print or digital (not iTunes) subscriber, you can recreate your library by signing in at Settings & Help, then download each issue one at a time. Yes, it’s a little inconvenient but at least I can read Motor Trend on my iPad again.

Better than I antispated.. I though I would never find anything close to a paper book, but at this time this app has me on the border. It's only been 2 weeks sense I've had this app, and I seem to like it better everyday.

Nice in Concept, Lousy Implementation. This magazine is beautiful when it works, unfortunately it's not that often. It constantly crashes on my iPad V1. Motor Trend should more thoroughly test each issue on all versions of the iPad instead of rushing the digital version to release. I have subscribed to Motor Trend for 25 years and nothing has disappointed me as much as the iPad digital issues. Please release this on other platforms including an HTML5 version for the desktop. That would hopefully be more reliable.

Beautiful App w/ a few bugs. This app is actually pretty awesome. The pictures are gorgeous the interface is smooth and exciting and it's all about cars!! As some reviewers have said prior to this the app does crash from time to time but it's really not all that frequent. all in all it's a pretty great application

Best mag I've seen.. I am a subscriber to all the automotive magazines. Motor Trend's iPad magazine is the best of them all. First, other mags make you buy the online version, even though I'm a subscriber; MT gives you the online version free if you are a subscriber. Second, I absolutely love the way MT does video. I still enjoy reading the hard copy, but the online version will keep me a subscriber for a long time. Love it.

Where do I cancel?. I opened the app hoping to see content. Immediately, I found that a subscription is required. I subscribed via iTunes only to learn that content would not load. I followed the instruction to restore purchases. Still content would not open. A message indicated that restoring content would take “a few minutes.” The next day, content will still not open. Next, I followed the link in the iTunes confirmation message to review my subscription, so I could cancel the useless subscription. This link did not even work. Where can I cancel?

One of my first mag apps and still my favorite!. I'm a long time fan of Motor Trend. Their app was one of the first ones I downloaded when I got my first iPad. They did and still do such good job between the print and iMag version. They take great care bringing multimedia content to the iMag with each issue and always do something creative for the cover. Nice job guys!

Linking to paid print account. While it FINALLY worked after four tries, this app's process of linking customer's paid print account is painfully unintuitive. The keyboard would disappear after EVERY text field when I clicked "next". They send you an email with a temporary password, but if you use the iPad to retrieve that email and then come back to the app you have to start the process over again because it doesn't remember where you left off. I'm using it NOW, but like I said it was painful getting setup. Glad it was a FREE app!

Great app and graphics. The MT app gave me more than I expected. The high resolution pictures, popup info windows and links to videos are awesome! I've had no performance issues running this app on a new ipad mini. You do have to stay on the download screen till its done like others have mentioned. I don't want to read the paper version any longer.

Great app. Don't get me wrong, this is great app and should definitely be on your ipad especially if your a print subscriber (because digital subscription is free), but this app chooses to work when it wants work. It gets annoying and has left me stranded on more than a few occasions. Either way, get it!

Worth the wait. Even though I have to wait for one issue to down load at a time this app is great. Conversely I can only read one issue at a time. I like the little "commercials" between articles and mini movies for head-line articles. Well worth the free and will be worth the money when I have re-up my subscription. I have incurred no issues yet with bugs. I am using an iPad mini.

Sweet App!. I love being able to click on certain articles and get a bigger, better picture or additional information. Being able to enjoy the magazine in this way on a plane is a serious plus.

Huge disappointment with the new app. The app is garbage, they should fire their IT team, who developed this crap. It requires constant log off, reinstallation, and god knows what else. The tokenization doesn’t work properly. And old app had lots of great content, which this one does not. Going back to print, cheaper and more reliable

Nice job Motor Trend. One of the truly better magazine apps in the marketplace. A wonderful user experience that's right up there with Wired Magazine. It does take up a lot of memory but I don't mind one bit as I have less issues with connectivity. I hear our friends at Motor Trend are already working on ways on making it an even better experience! Can't wait.

Beautiful but needs work. This app is very elegant and the layout is beautiful. The downsides are the fact it won't let you load new issues in the background. You have to keep the ipad from going into sleep mode otherwise the issue pauses loading. The other issue is it has a tendency to crash. Overall, I'm glad there is a ipad edition that doesn't charge if you've already purchased a print subscription.

Worse than Useless. I was excited to see print subscribers could read issues on their iPad for no additional cost. But after downloading the app, I was unable to enter my info from my mailing label. It said "invalid email" every other time it did not erase my subscriber number. After 15 minutes, I gave up, without being able to even read a single word. I would pay a few bucks a year for the convenience of reading print AND digital, but whatever the price, it has to WORK.

Piece of junk. Would give it no stars if I could. This is without a doubt the worst app I have ever downloaded. Inconsistently loads "store" section so that existing subscribers can't always find a place to log on. Then won't log on, even after accurate information entered. After several attempts to log on (including 3 separate downloads of the app) I am giving up. A very frustrating experience for iPad users and existing magazine subscribers. Don't waste your time.

Decent enough. The content is fine and the presentation is mostly good, although I would like it to support portrait orientation, not just landscape. The biggest problem is downloading each issue. It's horribly slow, times out, then won't restart the download. Not sure if it supports background downloading, but I don't think so...it absolutely should, so it doesn't hijack your entire iPad during the process.

Please wait! MotorTrend app comments loading...
