Can’t stop playing. This game starts quietly, but then over time you get more and more involved, caught up in the drama you tell yourself about Mr. x and King ackbar, as well as trying to make a game that captures the grand prize! And thank god, does not beg for money everything 30 seconds. A great game!

Just Amazing. I remember playing this game back when it was first released and loving every second of it. I decided to re download it again, and I can confidently say that it still has every bit of magic now as it did back when it first came out. Kariosoft has really captured lightning in a bottle with this game. The best part for me was being able to name all of my games; it just made the whole game come alive Play it. You won’t regret it.

Fun and fun!. While making up the titles for everything is pretty dang fun, creating a #1 selling Poncho Audio Novel on your own console is a whole ‘nother level of Fun. It’s just a shame no one will get to experience Rain Letters Returned. But you can experience this! Just remember levels 2 and 5 give you the 2 point upgrades to get levels 2 as soon as you can.

Best Mobile Game. I’ve been playing this game off and on for probably ten years now. I’ll get really addicted to it for a few months, then not play it for a while, then pick it back up again for months on end.

Best game I’ve ever played. Has to be the best game I’ve ever played. Nothing can probably beat this game. I remember in high school years ago when I’d stay up all night playing this game hoping one day I could make my own video games. Still a dream I have as a 27-year-old man. Skip Jones studios Will go down as one of the greatest companies to ever exist in the meta-verse. Thank you pokelawls for reviving this game for me and others.

I need more please!. I’ve been playing this game off and on for many years and it’s always just as delightful, deep, and addictive as the first time I played. My only complaint is that there isn’t a sequel or a PC/Console version!

Game Dev Story is a fun time sink. Everyone loves video games. Everyone has a phone. So logic would dictate that everyone loves games on their phone. But what if you could make games on your phone? That’s what you can do here. And it’s glorious. There’s so moderation to game titles and companies so you can let your freak flag fly or you can make a respectable and modern game company and make the games you would like to see. Of course you don’t actually MAKE the game, as is the case with most games from Kairosoft, but the sim life is the best life. I download this game, play for a bit, delete it after a while, and then I’ll redownload it and play again. Rinse, lather, repeat. It’s a fun game, not amazing depth, but if you have a cool 10-15 minutes here and there, you’ll be enraptured by the power of owning your own game studio in a world that does not give a single flying fox that your Game studios name is problematic. Play this game. It’s gonna make you happy.

Too long to get game of the year. I made over 80 games in two runs and finally had to look up combinations before winning game of the year even though most of the games would reach 60mil copies. Overall still a fun game just annoying sometimes

Amazingly addictive; slightly obtuse systems. Replaying for the first time in 10 years and it definitely holds up. You can easily play this for hours straight. However, it can feel random at times how good you do at moments. If you’re really trying to do your best, you might be upset that, for instance a game with all 10s didn’t get Game of the Year one year, but the next year your game with only one 10 finally did get GotY (just one example from my play through). Still, this life like randomness could be a feature, not a bug, so it’s still 4 stars.

I Love This Game. I got introduced to this game when it first came out. It was my introduction to Kairosoft and I find myself revisiting this title every few years. I would recommend anyone who enjoys sim games to play it. It’s simplistic enough to get into but has a replay factor where the grind up the ladder is equally as fun for first-timers as it is for people replaying the campaign.

Addictive. This game is HIGHLY addictive and you only purchase it once! I played Game Dev Tycoon and somehow found Game Dev Story. Game Dev Story is definitely a better game and it’s older.. The “what’s going to happen next” is going to keep you going well last when the game ends. One of the best simulation games I’ve played in years..

Always come back again. Such a great game. My brother and I have been playing this for AT LEAST 6 years and I always enjoy myself. I wish they’d make an update to add new consoles, but that isn’t a complaint or anything the game is absolutely great and I always come back to it. One of a few “classic iPhone games” left

Kairosoft's best. There are a ton of kairosoft games now but this is still by far the most entertaining. This game really has that "one more turn" addictive feel, so watch out if you're playing it before bed because it's pretty easy to lose an hour or two without noticing. Also, "A animal game?"

Fun! With that "One More Game..." addictiveness.. There's lots of industry humor in this game, and the gameplay is quite addictive. You find yourself ready for bed, but you don't want to put it down in the middle of working on a new game product, so you end up continuing to play into the wee hours of the night. No stability problems, the music is cute, and the graphics are simple but fun. I'd really like to rate this 4.5 stars, but it's a great game, so it gets 5. Ideas that would *really* make this a 5-star game for me: * Optimize the interface for the iPad - right now it's just a scaled iPhone game. * More explanations about the need to hire a hardware engineer to launch your own console. * Knowing in advance if your workers won't be helped by certain types of training so you don't waste money. * A neat touch would be if the in-game graphics improved as the game consoles advanced. This is a highly addictive and fun game. I highly recommend purchasing this game to anyone who has any interest in the gaming industry and enjoys simulation games.

Fantastic.. I first got this game clear back in 2011. I didn't think they'd continue supporting it for this long, but I'm glad they do. Paradoxically, I have become basically incapable of receiving the Grand Prize. My games sell millions of copies and consistently rank at #1 but that Grand Prize always hovers just out of reach. In my latest save, it took over 20 years to get the GP. I don’t know if this is a bug or unfavorable RNG.

Pretty addictive and fun. Easy to play with one hand, and a very addicting gameplay loop. Worth the 5 bucks for the seamless offline and ad-free experience. It's fun to come up with different combinations and watch numbers go up. The pixel people in my phone love my game company's smash hits: Evil Residence, Final Fantasia, Sure Locked Homes, Dim Souls, and Tears of Thomas--all available on the PlayStatus and GameBox :)

The one that started it all. I purchased this game when it first came out and after having played the demo. It does not disappoint at all. Perfect pocket sized sim and especially if you’re a fan of simulation with cute graphics and actual depth to the gameplay. Kairosoft are the masters of the phone simulation/tycoon game and that reputation is for good reason. Any time a game is available on the App Store i buy it immediately and Game Dev Story is in my top 3 favorite Kairosoft games.

Worth the buy. Been playing since it’s release. I always install after getting a new phone. It’s always been fun. You should also check out Kairosofts other works as well!

Addicting but lacks staying power. I have owned Game Dev Story on multiple devices, so I love this game deeply. However, even those you love are not beyond criticism. So, with that said, I wish that there was more attention put into the details of characters and the company you own. I don’t want them to flip the script, just give me more of what you already have.

One of The Greats. So weird to know I've been playing this game on and off since I was in middle school. This game was WAY ahead of its time and has aged great. So much fun, no micro transactions. Yes it's a loop, but like I said, these idle type games didnt exist. Plus, you can name each game, hire your own staff, make your own console, etc. You have total agency and create your own story. Wonderful game for people of all ages.

This game is dope. This game is just great to pass time, I just wish there was a day and night cycle. Also if you could customize your office that would be so cool too, and maybe have different locations you can be in for your office. Other wise me like game :)

Can't stop trying to make a hit game. I love this game! It's so fun to build up your studio and find amazing staff as you progress. From the grinding contracts and teetering on the verge of bankruptcy between each title you produce--it feels great when you establish your hall of fame titles and go to sequels to fund a giant office.

Addicting. Couldn’t put this down after I downloaded it. I found some of the stats and controls unclear at times, and I think the UI could do with a bit of touching up, but overall a really fun game.

Old Flame. I was reminiscing about all my old phone games I used to play in middle school the other day. This started my search to remember what this game was called. After many google searches, I found it! I was so excited! I downloaded it on Saturday and now (Monday) I've won the Grand Prize. It's addicting, I play it every chance I get. You won't regret the purchase. 100% worth it.

The Best Game on The App Store. I LOVE Game dev story and i think the price is very much worth the experience the game takes a relatively implement idea and adds strategy and planning, and just joking around. My one small problem with the game is word limits for games and consoles and maybe how there’s only one console icon, other then that problems are very minor like running out of places to go and running out of good new employees, with some polish it could become undoubtly the BEST game on the App Store.

My first Kairosoft experience. This review is quite late but I absolutely fell in love with Kairosoft games from this. The game is very easy to learn but deceptively addictive and super chill. The perfect Thing to just zone out with, I like putting on some music and just playing it to relax.

Never been able to delete it. I’ve been playing this game off and on for YEARS. Only once did it stay deleted for more than 2 weeks, and that was for 3 weeks during my finals for college. I really do genuinely love this game

Some trouble. It's a very addictive fun game without any crashing in game purchases or lag spikes but the tutorial wasn't that clear so I had a very hard time picking up on the game. There are still many things I don't know after countless hours of play. I would give it 4.5 if I could. It is one of the best tablet game I have ever installed other than that.

Love these Kairosoft games!. This game keeps me coming back through the years, and it always comes back with a vengeance! It’s so simple but so addicting! The only issue I have is that when you level up a genre AND type to 2 stars you can’t get 4 development points, only 2.

Needs More Micromanagement!. I absolutely love this game, I bought both this and Game Dev Tycoon to see which is better and without a single doubt this game exceeds the other by ALMOST every margin. The graphics, content quality, pace, and polish of Game Dev Story is without a doubt superior - however, Game Dev Tycoon has more smaller features that play into the development of a game and gives the player a greater sense of control in what they’re actually making. I would be willing to pay double the price of this game to have similar features in this, such as an option for graphics for your game, the ability to create custom engines, the CHOICE of engines, and so on. All that aside, I love this game and have become easily addicted to it in my free-time to the point where I’ve uninstalled other games I would have played frequently as they’ve become irrelevant after downloading Game Dev Story. Awesome game, developers! I hope you’ll look into updating and adding new features in the future, I would love nothing more than to have a perfect little tycoon game for mobile!

Always fun to play. I got this game a long time ago on a different phone. I saw it in my history of downloads and had to re download it again. This game is always a great way to past the time. True after a while playing the game you can feel like your just making games over and over again but if your like me you will try to beat the reviews and your own company every time you start again. This game is worth the money I can say that for any of the games you have find a style you like and you won’t be upset.

Fun. I've played most of the games made by this company. Game dev is the best by far. I have played it so many times and still play it from time to time. For those who complain about graphics need to understand the game was made in 1997, while there was still better graphics even then, this was the style they chose. This is merely a port from the 1997 Japanese PC version. Nonetheless great port and a great game.

Awesome!. Every single one of the Kairosoft games are great, so it’s very difficult to pick a favorite. Game dev was the first one I played so it has a special place in my heart. I am totally hooked and replay them over and over. Awesome games at great prices, I put so many hours into these games so you definitely get your money’s worth. I’ve been off and one playing this game since I was a child. I remember playing this game on my iPod back in 2009 or 2010. I’ve played it off and on over the years. I hope to play it off and on for years to come. It’s so simple but also fun to play

Amazing Game!. This game is Awesome. It’s well worth the five dollars. If you looking for a heavy narrative driven game, this probably isn’t what you’re looking for, but a fun game overall. This game is a sort of sim rpg where you choose game elements and design a game. However, it requires no coding skills, as the games are all “made” by the computers. It has fun dialogue and lots of spoof names for real world games, consoles, and companies. You won’t hear anything but the best about this game from me!

Can't stop playing. I my have just bought this game yesterday, but I can't stop playing it. It is 5 in the morning and I'm still playing. Takes a while to use to it but when you do it's a lot of fun

Finally. Through sweat and tears I’ve won the grand prize. Love the game. Hopefully it expands to bigger offices and new characters to unlock based on certain levels achieved. Maybe make the boss character able to be changed. Keep up the greatness.

Game Dev Story... My story.. I remembered playing this game back in elementary school... so I typed it in the App Store. I bought the game at around 10 o'clock in the morning & played. I kept playing, and playing until I saw I was in year 20. I had my phone on the charger so I wouldn't lose my progress in case my phone died. I looked at the time on my phone and saw it was 8 o'clock at night. At that moment came to a realization that I've been playing Game Dev Story for 10 hours. This game is well worth the little price that they charge, believe me. It was even difficult to write this review because I missed about 5 minutes of Game Dev time to write this. Buy the game.

Love it so much I had to get it twice!. Is game is fun. Nuff said. That being said the idea of owning a development company and creating game is extremely fun. I wish it could go on longer instead of stopping at 20 years, but being able to pick up where you left off with unlocked genres/types is good.

There is plenty of content out there for you to dig up to read about the mechanics of the game, but rest assured, if you are looking for a quality game to entertain you then get Game Dev Story. One of the best mobile games. I have played this game for as long as I can remember. I occasionally left it for a while but I always come back to it. Simplistic gameplay that is easy to learn makes it a great game for those brief periods of time I have.

Addicting gameplay loop. I’ve played this games for years and I get sucked back in at the most random times. While I do wish there was a bit more depth and upgrade paths it’s still highly addictive.

An Old Friend. I first played this game ten years ago, and after all this time, I still find myself coming back. No other mobile game can boast that for me. The cleverness of the references and in-jokes make it clear how much the developers cherish and revere the rich culture and history of video games, and like any good game, this one is very hard to put down. Few games have been able to solidify their status as my “comfort games.” Game Dev Story joins the likes of Resident Evil 4, Perfect Dark and The Legend of Zelda in that book for me. Thanks for the years of joy and entertainment, guys.

Very Addicting. This game is great! There are a lot of combinations for game customization and it’s a good challenge. The only improvements I’d make are scaling up the award prizes to how far along you are. The grand prize was great to win after so long but the prize money was negligible. Also, they could scale up the games of the week rankings. After a certain point you just win #1 game every time which is kind of boring. Also, they could change up the popular games every so often so the most popular choices don’t get stale.

The fun didn’t last.... After playing a couple of the free Kairosoft games, I soon decided to buy one of their “full” versions, hoping it would provide a longer gaming experience. While I was reluctant to buy Game Dev Story based on its premise, the number of people that rated it so highly and claimed that it was the best one, eventually won me over. And I’ll admit, it was fun to start with. For about two days. It was highly repetitive and I very quickly lost interest. It was certainly not worth the $8 I paid.

Fun game to pass the time. Simple to pick up and has a bit of depth to really master. Keeps you coming back.

I love it!. I play this game for hours! there is so much room for creativity and experimentation. This game is like a dr*g. I love for the gratification of getting a good score from critics. 100% recommend!! I used to play this a kid and although i play other games, i always come back to it. I love the format and the style. It’s simple but effective. Since there is so much room for creativity, there is something in this game for everyone. Additionally, it appeals to my competitive spirit. Trying to win awards and get good scores from critics is so much fun, especially when it pays off. I love the fast pace and navigating the struggles and set backs. It is the perfect amount of challenging but it’s engaging enough to continue playing through the struggle. And, once again, the pay off is so worth it! This is a great game, it’s worth the price and i would absolutely recommend it. Thank You.

Wish I could be reimbursed. The game is alright. I was playing it for probably 10 hours before hitting year 20. I was hoping for more depth in the business aspects but, lone behold, it’s an easy walk through game that has typical patterns of play to succeed. There’s very little ambiguity in the game other than the lights go out and some other events. After reading other reviews, I thought it had more to offer. Cognitive dissonance I suppose.

One of the best mobile games. I have played this game for as long as I can remember. I occasionally left it for a while but I always come back to it. Simplistic gameplay that is easy to learn makes it a great game for those brief periods of time I have.

THE BEST. Don’t waste your time with the pay to win games that seem to have descended the App Store and our wallets so uncreatively bland and derivative! This game in the other hand, chefs kiss. The gameplay loop is addictive!!! So satisfying. Makes me want to develop games.

Bugs. When I have played the game I was amazed by the quality but found some Bugs. When I finished the contract mid second of finishing it at last week it canceled my progress and said I missed the deadline, I don't know if it's lag or anything other then that 10/10 performance of game.

Addicting.. Great game. Simple to get going but the systems are actually pretty deep the more you play. Very satisfying and great difficulty curve. If you like game dev tycoon this is almost a perfect arcade rendition of that game. 10/10 would play again.

Finally. Through sweat and tears I’ve won the grand prize. Love the game. Hopefully it expands to bigger offices and new characters to unlock based on certain levels achieved. Maybe make the boss character able to be changed. Keep up the greatness.

Please update to iPhone X. Absolutely love this game. A ton of fun and never gets old. I’ve played this game on and off for years. I’ve never deleted it from my phone. I just wish they’d update it for iPhone X. Those black bars drive me crazy :/

Golden egg. This game is pretty much Kairosoft’s golden goose and I would argue is their golden age. Best game they have and well worth the small price to play an outstanding game. Probably the only contender to this in my opinion is dungeon village. Basically if you had to pick one kairosoft game it’s this one!

Grand Prize!. I won the grand prize! I have been playing this game for ten years off and on. Surprised that it still gets occasional development work, but it’s a ton of fun. (And years later I’m still playing!)

Great Game. I really enjoy a lot of the Kairo soft games, they offer a refreshing non micro transaction experience that is easy to pick up and play at any time. Even if only for a few minutes.

Fun app. Fun game with replay ability it can be difficult to find some game types though and some pairings just don’t make sense. A pirate adventure game should be an amazing coupling but it actually gives no bonus which is weird. There are other game types like that as well

Truly Incredible. This game is one of the best mobile apps out there. It's something that had to be experienced for yourself. I spent hours upon hours developing games and consoles and still haven't stopped at year 40. Truly addictive and a masterpiece.

Great Game. I absolutely LOVE this game. It’s so addicting and fun. Good balance of challenge and ease. You can spend hours playing it and you can put it down at anytime and pick it right back up. It’s clean and simply designed.

Finally won the Grand Prize. Took me forever to finally win the Grand Prize. I always seemed to get beat out no matter how good my games were. However, I’m the king of the castle now. The game is fun. Can be addicting for a mobile game.

Excellent Game. This game is a few years old but still fun to play. Can’t put the game down and been playing it for several days. Many combinations to find results in amazing rating.

Update. I wish this game would get updated. Im the Apple Arcade there’s offices and levels you can unlock but if you have the regular app it doesn’t offer it. All in all game is still addictive and would love for the update.

Neat game!. I didn’t know what to expect when I downloaded this as I was told word of mouth about it. It’s really creative and easy to get lost in. I can’t keep it on my phone when I return to work because I know I’ll play it a ton!

My first Kairosoft experience. This review is quite late but I absolutely fell in love with Kairosoft games from this. The game is very easy to learn but deceptively addictive and super chill. The perfect Thing to just zone out with, I like putting on some music and just playing it to relax.

Addicting gameplay loop. I’ve played this games for years and I get sucked back in at the most random times. While I do wish there was a bit more depth and upgrade paths it’s still highly addictive.

A fun way to pass some time. The game’s fun in a very classic way, but also very limited in scope as all older games are. I would also say it becomes quite repetitive quickly, which is a little unfortunate. Altogether, not the worst way to spend some time or money

One of my childhood favorites. Solid game overall, used to play this game back in early highschool and had to come back to re-experience everything, still as good as it was!

Best game I’ve played in a while. I just downloaded this game last night and was instantly hooked to it. I played for hours on end. It’s a really enjoyable experience that you can play with a loved one as well

Still the great game I remember. Game Dev Story was a game I loved to play several years ago. I recently redownloaded to play again. It has the perfect amount of clicks to time keeping me sitting at my phone waiting for the next thing to do. Always relaxing.

Love this game. Just got grand prize which a lot of people say is impossible but I got it in year 12. By the way the +version of the game has major save issues which need to be fixed.

w game ngl. addicting, well worth the $5.00. Been playing for a long time, anywhere and everywhere. Honestly so fun imo. I’ve actually gotten some friends of mine to buy the game as well, and they’re thoroughly enjoying it like me.

Favorite Game to come back to year after year. This is probably one of the finest games on the app store and has been my favorite since it’s release. No other app scratches the exact itch that this game does. 11/10

A classic from my childhood. I still love to play this game to this day and I highly recommend it. It does have some minor flaws but a game that holds up well is hard to find.

Addicting. Couldn’t put this down after I downloaded it. I found some of the stats and controls unclear at times, and I think the UI could do with a bit of touching up, but overall a really fun game.

Fun and Time Consuming. I cannot count how many times I’ve lost sleep getting into this game, and just using my imagination to give each “game” a backstory. Finally reached a goal and I couldn’t be happier! Highly recommend!

Has me hooked. I’ve been playing non stop for three days since I started this game. It’s causal cookie clicker nonsense to me. As someone who plays a lot of games like this it has been easy but fun.

Classic. This is an iPhone classic. I only have one complaint. Power outages - there is no reason for these negative events in the game. They’re random and not fun. Having your best game so far be ruined because of a totally random event isn’t interesting or good game design. That’s my only real complaint.

Fun and cute. The game is pretty shallow, but it’s enjoyable. I come back to it every so often, once you learn how to game the system a bit, it plays much quicker. Definitely recommend it though!

Perfection. This game is amazingly fun and continues to innovate as you play. The new game systems really fun with a new challenge every time, but keeping some of your research that you did in the previous run. I’d recommend this to everyone!

It’s a good game, but impossible to finish. Starting off, this is a really fun game and I usually go all the way to at least Year 30, but one thing that bothers me so much is that literally every single game I develop, one of the bad events happen, I.e power/equipment failure, or “another country released a game like yours” this really bothers me because these events which happen every time I develop a game stunt the growth of my company, and the hurts the quality of my game

I need more please!. I’ve been playing this game off and on for many years and it’s always just as delightful, deep, and addictive as the first time I played. My only complaint is that there isn’t a sequel or a PC/Console version!
