NOTE: Works best on iPhone 4/4S/5/5S/6/6S/7/7+ because it has flash. On iPhone 3GS and iPod touch the app has to be used in good lighting.
NOTE: Make sure that your fingertip completely covers the camera lens. Press gently, since pressing too hard reduces blood flow in your finger and it's harder to get a result. Make sure that your fingers are not cold. This app is for recreational and fitness use only!

This is WONDERFUL!! I ended up paying for the upgraded version & I'm VERY happy with it!! VERY EASY! I don't have anything negative 2 say about it!!
This app is great until you need to reset your password. They threaten to send you a password reset link that never comes due to a flaw in their code. Four emails with their support and still no resolution. Paid for the upgrade and was content to do so. I believe in supporting good apps. Based on this experience I regret spending the simple $5.00.
Works as intended
I have used the free version of this for years. I finally got sick of the excessive ads interrupting the heart rate measuring process so I bought the “full” version for $5, expecting no ads. Instead, when I try to use it, it give a very inaccurate reading or reads nothing at all AND still has ads, including an in-app “premium” upgrade FOR $60 A YEAR. At some point it kicked me back to the free app which still at least measures correctly. Screw this app and this company. It’s a scam.
I have been using this app for over two years, and it is always accurate and works as it should.
The app works OK but I paid five dollars and after I take my heart rate I’ve got several screens of their ads. Deleted the app. Besides they been rumored to be selling your data. Wouldn’t buy again.
Tries to get you to upgrade constantly. You have to go through many promotional screens to get to what you want. Also they have been in the news for selling user data to third parties.
I think this app is cool. It’s a keeper!
It’s good to know what’s going on with my heart. Sometimes I feel so bad that’s good to know
Very good A
Paid my $7.99 and yes got a pulse reading.cheaper to use two fingers on my wrist!! When I try to get a report or do stress test it states - ‘unable to complete this function’ which appears every time. I’d like a full refund please as the product doesn’t perform as stated and for it’s said purpose.
Works fine - too many interruptions. Had it-deleted it because it was too frustrating having the constant interruptions to Upgrade.
I have enjoyed it and it’s accurate and easy to use thanks
Did not understand how to use it was told to sign in but was afraid I would be in some type of fixed agreement for monthly surcharge so deleted on the same day
Love heart rate app, it's accurate, good for what I need. I don't need the up grade, just need to check my heart rate from time to time. Heart Rate gets a five star rating from me, I have been using it for about three years. A big thumbs up.
Does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Accurate and simple.
This is a great app, use it every day
I don’t want to have to pay for an app and then have to make an account to use it.
This keeps me on top of my heart health.. Very good!!
Aside from measuring your heart rate there is almost NOTHING you can use this app for. Do yourself a favor, get a watch. 9.99 a month is a bit steep when other apps can track, measure, monitor and provide other services for less.
I have a history of “funny early heart beats” or PVCs. I’ve also had a couple of episodes of atrial fibrillation that had to be treated in Emergency Department. I use this app to catch and document any persistent dysthymia then discuss It with my physician. I use it to track my cool down periods at 1 min, 3 min, and 5 min after daily fast walks of 45 min to 1.5 hrs. My iWatch does this also, but I like to check it manually to check for any “funny beats.” I’ve used this app for almost 4 years. I am a Registered Nurse and I thoroughly recommend it.
Easy to use. Nice tracking history.
They show reports and monitoring. BUT when you buy the app THEN you find out all of those extras are only available at PREMUM level which requires a MONTHLY charge. My iWatch already monitors my heart rate. This is a rip off.
Same as Instant Heart Rate Free. Except for The 5.00US. States that it includes Stand up Test. Maybe. But appears to not be able to do it. Which makes it the same as the free version.
Not as useful after update removes trending graphs
Just a way for app to make money. Too many things to pay for, deleted from my phone, seems to lead you to many more things then just what is advertised
Continuing to use this app. Works very well. ... Jan. 2019. Still using this app, after several years. Functions well on my iPhone 8. App is just about impossible to use on the iPhone 6s Plus. The camera lens and the flash are too far apart. . . Jan. 2016 This app doesn't work for me on the iPhone 6s Plus. It can't seem to find the pulse in my finger. I suspect it's because of the greater distance between the camera lens and the flash unit on this newer iPhone. . . Nov. 2015. I'm looking forward to trying the new features in this update. I've been a big fan of this app for over two years. December, 2014. I continue to use this app on a regular basis to check my heart rate. (For some reason I've always found it a problem to consistently feel my own pulse.) Also, I've found the app very useful for checking my heart's rhythm. I use the app routinely to confirm that I'm in normal rhythm, when I don't have easy access to a stethoscope. In addition to the visual and auditory enunciation of the heartbeat, the app also has a useful graphical output. Maybe not accurate enough for checking one's QT interval, but otherwise informative. . . . July, 2014 Great app! The visual and audio enunciation of the heart beat makes the app a good tool for checking one's heart rhythm. I'm amazed at how well the app functions. Recommend it highly. August, 2013 Works well and does exactly as advertised. Well worth the optional 99 cents payment. I gladly paid it to support the app. Important to read the instructions and understand how the app works. Instructions are clear and simple. I continue to be amazed at the accuracy of the app. I highly recommend it. Have been using this powerful app daily for several months. Last update added some nice improvements. The additional features of the optional 99 cents version are an amazing value. - April, 2013
Great to keep tabs on your fitness and general health Great crack trying to reduce the levels
Works well — simple to use once you get used to positioning your finger over both the flash and camera lens. Pretty accurate too — it gives the same result within a heartbeat or two as a Garmin HR chest strap monitor and a wrist based HR/pressure cuff.
As the title says....
I love the fact it helps with vital research!
After paying for a full fledge app keep getting annoying popups asking for premium version. The withings app for FREE offers the same heart rate functionality!!
Great little app for checking first thing in the morning and getting a resting heart rate
Great app. Works well and is quick and simple to use.
Great app for people with heart problems
