Perfect for on the go light metering. I still shoot on my Yashica Electro 35 still camera. I use this to help me meter my photos. I think this is great for what it is. Aperature, film speed and shutter time is all selectable. You can log your readings in case you need to reference them later on.
Quite useful. There are apps that are an EV meter and others that perform the F-stop / shutter speed calculation. This app combines both quite well. The log is useful to reference with the photos you take using your manual camera. The user interface can be improved a bit which is why I didn't rate it 5 stars. Thank you for this app. Nice work!
We conceived, well executed. A fine product which provides a wide range of useful information in a clear intuitive interface.
Works well. Accurate and inexpensive, and you always have it with you
Works for me. It’s a great light meter ap. Do a lot of live studio work. The LD tells me its OK your meter tells me he’s right. For my purposes it’s all it needs to be.
Simple and accurate. I’ve been using this app for quite a while and my exposures have always seemed accurate. As other reviews mentioned, it would be nice to see an updated interface, but at least there are no annoying ads.
Image won't appear. The image won't even appear. It simply says "too dark." I adjusted all the exposure settings thinking I had to set one of them near correct to kick in. It's a simple interface so it can't be that difficult. After 15 minutes of trying to get it to work, I deleted it. I'm on an iPhone 6 Plus.
Invaluable!. I started using this app a few years ago as a “Hail Mary” during a shooting session on film when I had forgotten a light meter. This performed so well once the film was developed that I sold my light meter. When I started shooting video a year later, I continued using this to keep me grounded while shooting LOG. Accuracy is dead on, even compared to the high end meters on the market. Truly an amazing and clever use of our little pocket supercomputers.
I would pay. If the developer cleans up the app a little bit. Update the design and make the user experience a little nicer. This is the only light meter app that seems to work on the AppStore yet it gets 0 love from its creator. Come on man! Give us something beautiful and we will buy you steak dinner! (Or grilled veggies hopefully you eat clean 😌)
Latest update was big step backwards. I hate the wheels & the “use the old interface” setting is gone. No version number in settings or the in-app settings. Developer web site has exactly one sentence - no specs, FAQs, help, nothing. 2 stars because it does actually meter OK most of the time. No more than that because the UI is bad & the support is nonexistent. Deleted it & going back to my old Vivitar meter.
Lux meter NOT included!. I've downloaded every free app that claims to be a simple light meter, I just want to compare two lamps in a bedroom. I don't know why they all use the Lux meter as the bait and switch carrot but they do. Once I was able to figure out how to access/enable the Lux meter via a UI that feels like it was designed by a kindergartner, this app too reveals that for the Lux meter, you need to upgrade to the pro version (and in this case it actually uses a physical accessory) One star for being deceiving.
Works but poor documentation. Just not sure about the accuracy of this. It has a “spot” field which can be moved around. However the spot field isn’t documented anywhere that I can find (absolute size or accuracy). It differs somewhat from my spot meter and the discrepancy bother me. Only discovered support for 160 ASA by changing options (doesn’t default to showing 160).
Works well generally. Wish I knew more clearly if this was a spot meter, center weighted, average, etc meter. I THINK it is a spot meter? Would be cool to know for sure. Would be even more cool to switch between different type of metering
Sure, it’s worth it :). I have to apologize to the developer. I purchased this app and I was at first a bit miffed at what I thought I’d gotten for the price. I actually went so far as to ask Apple for a refund, which I pretty quickly regretted. As I used the app I realized that it was my preferred one as far as phone light meters go, and the log feature is very cool. I’ve been testing it against my camera’s meter and feel confident that it will work well with an old rangefinder I’m using that doesn’t have a meter. One less thing to carry around with me when shooting, because my phone would be in my pocket anyway. It works well, is well designed and thought out, and the log feature is great. So I went back and bought it again! Thanks for making it and sorry for my initial snap judgment!
The Best…..so far. This is really the best iPhone Exp Meter available. The only thing holding back the 5 star rating is the cheesy font and background in the logged photos. Needs modernization and a few graphic interface improvements. Adding the ability to assign Hold and Log buttons using the iPhone up and down volume buttons would make this a killer app. Please keep developing this app and hopefully add the button feature.
Accurate for Shooting video and film. Seems silly to use your iPhone to check your light settings, but for some of my medium format cameras that no longer have working meters, this is fantastic. Set it time ISO film you’re using and can even log as you go. Can’t wait to run around the city sigh some 800!CineStill in my 120 camera!
Allows me to shoot cameras with no light meter. I’ve used this app to shoot medium and large format cameras that have no light meter of their own, and I get accurate results. Even if your film camera has a light meter, you should use this app just for the convenient logging feature; shoot a digital photo of the film photos take, and write down any pertinent notes that’ll be helpful later (exposure, location, etc).
Dual purpose light meter. I own a Pentax spot meter and have found that this light meter works surprisingly well in a pinch for photography. I also like to try to grow some veggies like tomatoes from seeds. This light meter helps me find the ideal lighting available like ~5500k or ~2700k so I can help my plants to grow or produce fruit.
Love it. This app has become invaluable to me when shooting film. My shots are correctly exposed and look fantastic--there's no need to spend $$ on a meter.
Amazing!. Such a great tool when shooting large format film. I use it regularly and enjoy it thoroughly. I am very appreciative of the app developer. It was totally worth paying for no ads as well! Keep up the great work!
Great stuff. I really like this app... I compared it to the readings and results from my Canon 6D and its right on. I use it on those rare occasions when I shoot film. My only complaint is that it won't take a reading off a flash but honestly I have no idea how that's even possible by using the iPhone cam. This is a great app and the price is RIGHT on. Good stuff!
Easy & accurate. Started using this light meter in conjunction with my Yashica 635. So far, it has been spot on. What’s also great is while I’m sitting around using my phone I can get light readings, kinda of nerdy I know.
Seems to be working well!. I'm using a Canonet in manual mode without the meter and my photos have turned out great. I wish you could lock the selected shutter or aperture though.
A useful tool. This app is useful for cameras that don’t have a light meter. Don’t overlook the log feature. Being able to add a note is also very useful. I’m not aware of the angle of view fir the metered light. It would be useful to be able to change that to match the focal length of the lens used. Otherwise very nice!
spot on. finally a spot meter for zone photography. Would suggest adding a zone scale and a meter reading save feature that you can place on the scale. With the ability to place in whatever zone you want -( ie be able to get a shadow reading and a highlight reading and place) looking forward to calibrating! Great work here!!
Only a spotmeter. This is really only a spot meter and isn't really any better than you likely have built in to your phone. If you're looking for an ambient light meter, you're going to have to look elsewhere. Also, I'm not really sure how accurate the white balance sensor is given the fact that the phone isn't exactly the best at white balance.
Newbie at this. I am by no means a professional at this. But it’s easy to use for an amateur and so far seems to be matching my digital camera settings. I am using it for my foray into film and also to get better at choosing my own settings with digital. So far the film pictures also seem to be coming out about right.
Easy and Simple!. This app is quite good! I test it during the day and evening and it works quite well. I also tested the Kelvin temperature in the app with my Nikon D750 and it did the job nicely. I will definitely be using this for my film and digital camera for sure!
My Go To. Been using this app for years both on and off professional sets. Reliably does exactly what It needs to do
Does a great job !. It seems likes it’s giving me the same ratings as my camera’s rating which is great. My only problem is that I don’t know if it is metering the whole image or just that square... it gets a bit confusing at times
Great App, feels a little outdated. App is accurate. Ive used this for both a Mamiya 645 and RZ67. Works fantastic every time. My film comes out well exposed. I don’t even carry a light meter because I trust this app so much. My only complaint is that the app’s layout and overall look feels a little outdated. It looks like an app that you’d get back in the early smartphone days. It’s not that big of a deal though because it works great regardless, but an appearance update wouldn’t hurt it.
A good tool for the job!. I’m a professional portrait event photographer. I’ve been using it for years, and it’s an excellent tool.
Works as intended. Good app—is there a way to have logged images go into their own album? Bit tiresome to look through all photos to archive these. Otherwise works great, very useful tool.
White balance feature is the best!. Most of us do not need a handheld light meter, because today’s cameras have great built-in meters. However, the auto white balance can leave a lot to desire. Use the white balance feature of this app to get great color rendition under any natural lighting condition. Get the WB, enter it into your camera and you are set.
Consistent Results. I shoot on an old TLR film camera and I use this as my light meter. I always get consistent results so I’ve used this app solely for years!
Not accurate.. I tested this meter against a real GE analog standalone meter, a Nikon N90s meter (known for its accuracy), a Nikon D5100 meter, and another competing meter app. Everything else agreed, more or less, and this app was always way out in left field. I wouldn't trust it if I were you.
Replaced the need for a spot meter entirely for me.. This app is incredible. I shot three rolls of velvia through my Fuji GW690III. Despite velvia being very unforgiving with exposure latitude, the shots came out great. This was the meter I used. It's spot on. The interface is incredibly intuitive, and you can set the ISO, shutter speed, and aperture in full, half, or third stops. The devs of this app got a pint from me!
Great light meter in the palm of my hand. Shot a few rolls using this app as the light meter. They came out great. Exposures were accurate on B&W film. Simplified my travel set up and allows me to carry my Leica IIIf around without a light meter.
Great app. It’s a great free app; I upgraded to support the developer. The color temperature feature is especially appreciate appreciate it. My only wish would be the ability to lock the aperture as I am using it with my iPhone which is fixed at f2.2.
Most Useful Photo App. This is by far the most useful app for photography that I own. It is intuitive to use and has never failed to give me a perfectly correct exposure. If for some reason I lost the app, I’d replace it immediately.
Useful and handy. It’s a good app. It’s too bad I forget to use it MORE OFTEN!! Thank you for being so accurate. My glasses go dark like shades in the sunshine. Often throws me off on exposure. This app helps save the blow out from happening more often than it does. Providing I remember to use it.
Photographer. Excellent product. Very useful and handy to compare different lighting situations. I can see this app growing excitement product into spot metering and measuring light temperature (kelvin).
Very handy. Very handy. I do a lot of outdoor travel photography and it’s been nice to have this in my pocket. I’ve used it in a few professional shoots as well. Highly recommended.
Highly accurate. This app does an excellent job for use with my older cameras. Using it I have obtained very good results with Zeus Ikons and Soviet era Russian cameras. It has been a wonderful tool for determining the functionality of built in meters.
Good but.... I think it really needs a defuser. I find that it grossly underexposes in bright light, but overexposes by a stop in low light. In regular everyday light it agrees more or less perfectly with my built in meter and handheld meter.
Some thing you can use when starting out. Perfect tool
Perfect accessory for my photography!. As a professional photographer for over 40 years, I’ve owned just about everything one can have (and spent way too much money). The Pocket Light Meter app has been awesome and a tremendous value , especially for scouting and color temp checks when adding gels to match conditions! And it’s always with me!
This light meter is awesome. It seems to be pretty accurate. I love this app. It'll tell you what values to use for for your camera. It displays your light in kelvins so you can set it to the correct white balance. You can hold the image with the values and even save it. So helpful. This guy deserves a pint.
Very Handy. Since we all have smart phones that takes metered pictures, why carry a light meter when you're shooting film
Counting photons. Not quite yet. On the good side - measures exposure correctly (like a real light meter) so one can use it for the zone system. Spot metering by taping on the screen helps a lot. Settings are practical. On the other side - just getting rid of the adds (for $1.99) doesn't last if application is reinstalled. Probably one needs to buy the author a beer (for $5.99) to get rid if the adds permanently.. The worst part is once you get rid of the adds, the field where the adds were is like a blind spot - you cannot place the cursor there for spot metering. I think the only serious restriction of this application. Overall, great App - five stars.

Light meter. Very good app as accurate as my L508 but smaller. Besides my light meter is bulkier and can't make phone calls.
Light meter does what says! Great app. I didn't expect much from a little free app using the iPhone's hardware but it matches the reading of my DSLR. Very happy with its performance. Thank you.
Light meter. Great! I usually use a second camera to check light reading, but no more. Just pull my iPod out and instant light reading
does what it says, but a bit rough.. Should do more than just report the current iPhone exposure index, e.g. report meter readings from different parts of the frame using pixel data to support modes like spot, matrix, etc. Something like the Dynax 7 honeycomb meter would be awesome. Desperately needs a prominent compensation indication while metering so you don't forget that you left it on - I wasted a bunch of velvia tonight due to that issue. Compensation is reversed! +1 halves instead of doubles the reported required exposure and the effect is not shown in the preview image.
Steve. Very easy to use and so far spot on for results. No need to carry my old light meter when using my old film rangefinder.
The upgrade is not as good. The previous version was a lot better, I can even seem to lock the ISO or aperture,I'm happy to pay for the app but not just to remove the ads if the interface doesn't change.... Revert back to the better version please!
Practical, handy, easy to use and - IT WORKS !. This is one of the better iPhone apps. I have an old Stereo Realist manual 3D camera and I've become reasonably proficient at guessing the correct exposure. However I still stuff-up about 20% of shots. I've just downloaded and tested Pocket Light Meter. Its definitely going to help.
Light meter. This app is great, i couldnt get the prior version to work but this one works really well! Ive tried it with my canon 500D dslr and am really happy with the results
Good to play with. A nice application to play with. My first impression is that the shown results are out. I will need to test a little more. One function would be useful - if there is a standby mode to capture a flashlight……may a little to ask for free. I work a lot with flash and I would happy to pay a small fee for the little extra
Updated.. App has now just been updated so it works with the latest IOS. Was working fine but started crashing a few days ago when IPhone updated. Now works perfectly again. I like it so much I just paid the $1.19 to get the ad free version.
Did it job and well!. Great little lightmeter! I was a little skeptical at first, but I used it along side my little manual ricoh rangefinder and it worked a treat! Perfect for what I needed! Thanks!
Please take the ads off. Seems to work well, but I just paid for the app to get rid of the ads and the ads are still there. Help please. I'll rate the app after I've more time to use it and if there's anyone reading this who will take the ads off.
Very impressed. Heard about this app on TFTTF podcast with Chris Marquardt. I am using an old manual FED 2 camera to shoot B&W. this app has made my images more accurate and my keep rate has doubled.
Useful tool with vintage SLR cameras. I love using it with cameras of mine that don't have built in light meters. Rough readings are all I need and this app does them well.
Don't think just get. Great app that is really easy and just works. I use it for my yashica lynx 14 and it works great! Awesome exposures all the time!
Great so far. On scenes tested so far it gives accurate readings on an iPhone 3GS. Very happy with the results. Hold so that subject's face or clothing (of average reflectance) fill the screen and take reading.
benant. Fantastic! As accurate as a hand held meter!! Has everything you need. Highly recommended.
Absolute rubbish. Screen always said "too dark" but the myLightMeter free app worked brilliantly. This app is useless.
Note from developer. I am the developer of this application. The problem with black screen is an unexpected compatibility issue with iOS 4.1. I have already fixed it, the update is waiting for approval from Apple. The update will be published in about a week. Meanwhile, you can try to restart your phone; it helps in 90% of the cases. Another workaround is trying to restart the application alone. To do so you have to press the home button to see the home screen. Then press the home button twice (like double-click) to have a list of currently running applications to slide in from the bottom of the screen. At this point you should see PLM icon on the list. Press and hold that icon until a red circle with minus sign appears in the top corner of the icon. Press that circle, and the application will be terminating. Restarting the application helps sometimes. The permanent fix is ready, it is with Apple, it will be published in about a week.
Perfect for my uses. I tested it next to one of my slrs to make sure the accuracy was reasonable (it is). Suits me fine for those days when I just want to to take the little old manual rangefinder out And can't be bothered with sunny 16.
Pocket magic. Love having this app on the phone. Good for confirming me guesstimate on exposure and very handy having the photo option to remember the settings and photographed scene.
Great little app!. Getting much better results from my photography when I use this app - even just to get an idea about the ambient light in some places.
OK. This is clearly a reflective light meter only, not incident, so you need to know what it is actually telling you and adjust accordingly. In camera metering tells you the same and is most probably better so why use this? The incident light meter is not replaced here (as the logo slightly suggests). A nice gadget that doesn't really help, I guess you can figure out your exposure options without dragging out the gear but that's about it. It's free.
Great app and best of all free!. I use this app when shooting medium format film on old cameras without meters. I have compared the readings to '90s Canon SLRs as well as late model compact digitals and a professional grade Minolta exposure meter and it is never far off. Certainly far more accurate than needed for colour neg or black and white, and good enough for colour slide most of the time too. The save feature is great, takes a low res photo of the scene with all info, exposure settings, time, date etc. This is my EXIF data when I catalogue my negatives later...
Great light meter!. Superb little app, shows just about the field of view for my old screw-mount Leica 50mm standard lens, so really useful and my test-film was perfectly exposed. Top marks!!
Easy and convenient. Being able to adjust compensation to match my other meters and gear is fantastic, been using this for nearly a year, great for getting an idea what to expect before pulling all the gear out.
Excellent app. Very helping and when used as a ballpark setting works very well. Worth having in your apps bag
Histogram. Was better with the histogram as previous version, please bring it back! Otherwise, can't fault it.
Great app. Matches my lightmeter to within less than half a stop. Quick to use, good interface, good options for readout. Love it!
Not bad but.... When the main camera on the iPhone is used compared to the front facing secondary camera, it's 1/80 compared to 1/20 in exactly the same light (same aperture & ISO of course). Which one is correct?
Great!. Without having to get out my camera I can tell technically what sort of settings I will need for a shot and if it will be feasible. Normally I use my mark 1 eyeballs but this is more accurate.
Top of the Class App. This is such a good app that I am buying a Pint for the author. One suggestion if I may. Can you in a future version incorporate a choice of DIN in addition to the ISO rating? That will suit my Leica M3 rangefinder camera.
Nice app. Does a pretty decent job, considering you are on an iPhone. Next to a professional sekonic light meter I found it to be within 1/3-2/3 of a stop accurate in most conditions. And you can calibrate it if it's consistently over/under
Fantastic. Awesome free light meter app. Tested next to Sekonic Light Meter and pretty much bang-on (maybe slightly over, but this can be adjusted). Would have been happy to pay for even, it's that handy!
FANTASTIC.. Incredibly accurate, easy to use, functional and (most definitely) not as expensive as a real light meter!!! I have used this app for medium format photography, and every photo is perfectly exposed. I've also tested the app against a real light meter and it hit the same settings every time. I cannot recommend this app enough! Cudos to the developer!
goooood. I've been using this app continuously for about eight months now on an ipod touch. It's accurate. Many, many rolls of black and white have come out reliably exposed, more often than not with a good/ very good dynamic range. It's coincident with almost every reliable light meter i've checked it against. It really doesn't perform well in low light though; and this is the one and only fault i can pick with it. I'd imagine that this is a limitation of the hardware, not the app. The layout is minimal and intuitive, and offers a simple but useful level of customisation. The option of whole/ half/ third stops in the aperture and shutter speed settings is brilliant and makes metering very quick, especially when using a variety of lenses or when shooting in time-sensitive situations. The log/dropbox function is very clever, but I haven't used it. This is easily the best free light meter app, if not the best all round.
Love it has many uses. A reviewer stated above that is is a reflective light meter and you can just use your camera light meter. Well as I use a 1904 box brownie and a 1920's folding brownie for most of my photography this is invaluable as my cameras do not have light meters. I compared this app's results to the one I got with my two light meters and it shows the same values so a fantastic app that I use all the time and I no longer carry a separate light meter when shooting. A must have for vintage and classic camera users.
Outstanding. This app has saved me a lot of guessing. It works very well and is a credit to its designer.
Vintage film shooters godsend. Works a dream for those of us shooting vintage film gear with no integral light meter or a meter with no spot function. Calibrated with my sekonic meter and 7d in spot mode and it works perfectly. I would love to be able to switch between spot and a average metering modes - but still great as is.
Works like a charm. I’ve used this app shooting 35mm and medium format film in both studio and natural light. It is consistent and spot on every time. Highly recommended.
Fricken brilliant. This makes reconnoitering a photo/video job real simple cause the light meter, notes & snaps are all in the one hand held device
Great App. I have a sekonic light meter as well, this app does the job just as well, sometimes a stop, but there is a huge price difference between the two Meters, but so handy as well.
Perfect and useful. Some how this lightmeter gets it's reading pretty well spot on and almost matches the light meter in my nikon d3s. I made the comparison to see if it would replace a real light meter for shooting with a friends hasslebladd and it does
Light meter. Nice for when you need it quick
Gold Star 5 Stars. I've just broken my light meter (don't ask!) and needed one right now, on a whim I put light meter into the App Store and this one stood out. Okay I've only used it for this shoot but I have to say really very well done to the developer. I take note of others saying about low light so reserve judgement there but so far in my studio it's perfectly accurate. I work fast and move from one thing to another fast I need light readings to get me started and then I adjust around them and move on. Well done buddy when I do my expenses you will be getting your 5 bucks for that pint!!!!
Light Meter. All too often I leave my expensive light meter in the other camera bag. This App has saved me more times than I can remember. If only my memory worked as well. Is there an App for that?
Works like a charm. The Update has made this an indispensable app for all want to be photographers out there
Awesome free app. Works like it should. Accuracy is within approximately 1/3 - 1/2 stop compared to what I get on most cameras. I use this on old ones that do not have meter built in. Couldn't be happier
Lightmeter app. This is the best photo app I know. I especially like the return to the old controls in the update. Very accurate. Now I'm never without a lightmeter.
Very useful!. Very Smart app! It doesn't give only useful data for photography but also the lux on the surface! It is the first time I found it!

pocket light meter. J’ai téléchargé l’application, et il m’est impossible de la mettre en français. Alors comment faire?
Close but not quite there. Good idea but the execution is a little off. Compared it back to back with my sekonic digital meter and it is not quite accurate. Ev correction can help at the time but doesn't seem to stay consistent.
Review. Extremely handy!
Useful and Accurate. Since losing my built-in Pentax light meter to old age, this tool has proven to be extremely useful! When I developed my photos they looked great thanks to this app. There have been some improvements to the look of the app lately which deserves a pint to the developer. I'm looking forward to future improvements, new features, perhaps a lock for fstop / speed so they would bounce around so much.
Very good. It does a good job
Nice app. Seems to work very well
Acces au photo. J'aimerais qu'il ai un endroit pour cocher si on veux qu'il est accès au photo oui ou non j'ai dis non a l'installation et je ne suis plus capable de modifier
I love this light meter. Although it can not compete with a Sekonic professional light meter (which will cost you quite some money) it still is very close. And you will have this one always with you! Furthermore the best thing to me is that this nice app provides you with the light temperature (Kelvin) which is absolutely amazing. It really helps you to set up the camera properly especially when working in studio conditions or using a tripod. Absolutely awesome.
Works great except.... The app works great for ambient light, it would be amazing if it worked with strobes, in a perfect world...
Great!. Just awesome sometimes need to take a few readings to be accurate.
Great and handy meter. I have actually checked against my Sekonic 778 light meter and the app is unbelievably close If it could measure flash this app would be amazing Great tool to have on your phone comes in handy
Decent. Very handy and portable
Handy, easy to use. Just as the title says. I’ve been using PLM for 7 or 8 years. Does the job well.
Worth every penny. I know it's a freebie, but it's GREAT, honestly. I use it all the time, works delightfully, and has proven itself accurate. It's so good I had to send them money, a must have app.
Great meter. Works fairly well. I wish there was a setting to lock multiple settings. I shoot film, so my ISO is fairly constant and my f is set to the field I want. It would be great if there was no auto light exposure for shutter speed so I could see what the image would be like, under or over exposed, before I take a shot and waste a dollar of film. Is this possible with an iPhone? Thanks again for the great app. I'm thankful.
Handy and accurate. Very useful in almost all photographic situations!
Pocket Light Meter. Always reliable readings that match my Canon cameras readings - better and handier than an expensive Sekonic. Would like to see a flash version and totally do without the Sekonic
Pretty Sweet. Gr8 and simply to use. Rely on this meter then any other apps. Would like to them to come up with a lux meter as well
Excellent. I use the tool frequently. It is intuitive to use, requires little training even for a novice photographer like myself. I recommend it to my friends without reservation.
Old cameras.. I mostly photograph with strange old half broken cameras. This app works great.
Useful tool. Great to have on my iPhone when I have no meter on hand or when the on board camera meter seems off. Easy to adjust shutter and aperture on the fly.
Nice and simple. Perfect you some quick info now
Cool app. Cool app, especially with the luxi sphere. However, has anybody noticed that in very low light, the light from the phone screen bleeds onto the luxi sphere… which obviously alters the metering. It’d be better if the interface had a black background — like the touchscreen Sekonic for example (or at least a « low light interface » option). Other than that, great app! Thanks!
Doesn’t log wb. As a videographer, main reason I bought this was to measure white balance on location. The fact that it doesn’t record wb when you log is extremely disappointing.
Great app. I never would have thought of using my phone for this purpose. Works great.
Good on the go. Use it with my nikon dslr and seems to be more accurate than the on-camera meter when comparing pics. Simple and easy to use
Nailed the metering for every photo on my Rolleiflex. Amazing
Very handy when used with a Luxi. Attach a Luxi to your iPhone and calibrate, this app works great.
Always with you. ..... easy to use .... fun to use .... and trustable
Great App. Quick to load, does the job, great price!
Great product. A very handy feature to have along on a trip for photographs!!
application très pratique. application très pratique qui permet de faire l'évaluation rapide d'une situation photographique. Difficile de s'en passer dans certaines circonstances!
Awesome features. The journal like function allowing you to take notes and a picture is super handy putting it above other apps.
Awesome photo app. This app is sooo handy. I always have my iPhone with me but not my light meter. Pretty accurate , usually bang on with camera reading and when it's not I go with the app.
Version on 2013/08/04. Crashes on launching: iPod Touch 64GB 4G, iOS 6.1.3. Waiting for update to try again.
Solid and reliable for years. Great for a quick check, and I especially like using it to compare with other meters. Log your info on location by taking a screenshot and using the built-in Markup feature to add text and type the location name.
Cellphone light meter. I really like this light meter; however, l wish that l could also take a picture when using the light meter.
Very good , j'aime beaucoup. I did test few times with my sekonic L358 pretty close, usefull with non electronic lenses ( babylens)
Most Useful App. This is a great application and truly useful when you find yourself needing important exposure measurements ... this is a very accurate measurement device and learning how and where to take the light measurements is very important for getting the perfect exposure ... two thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻 and five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Do not use. This app has links to websites that will try and force you to click thing... Apple should never of allowed this app..
Great lightmeter. Love this app! I still shoot film and this is a great light meter!
Wonderful App. I love it. Learning to use my Canon G15 camera in manual mode. Really usefull to find the good setting for beautiful pictures. I warmly recommand.
Photographer. A very useful act to measure the light in a specific area of a scene without having to approach the subject. Best with available light.
Perfect app. I would never have though of ever using a phone to get light readings. I get some really funny looks when people/clients seer talking on the phone them take a reading.
This App deserves higher rate. I have been using this App for around two years, and I never get disappointed with it. I shot with this App for more than 20 rolls of 120 and 135 films. The meter is just accurate under any circumstances if you use it correctly. I rate it 5 stars absolutely.
Light meter. I use this light meter constantly. I shoot a lot on old film cameras and having a light meter in my phone helps immensely.
Good. I use it often and it works well.
Perfect!. Looks a too much like a slot machine but works fine and gives a record of your readings. Very nice.
Fabulous. I love this, V! Works great!
This is garbage. Absolute garbage

Pretty great. I, of course, went right out to compare it to my seckonic, my dslr, etc. Results varied, its an iphone app for christ sake, so I decided to do a real world test. I set my G11 to manual and dialed in the readings from the app. Good exposure even in very low (EV3) light. It also has a drop dead easy interface. My only quarrel is that after I bought the $.99 ad free version there was no way to return to the previous screen so that after I had confirmed that it was indeed ad free I could buy the developer a pint. Would have done so, great ap. Update that and I'll buy you a pint.
Spot on!. Compare readings with my Sekonic light meter and is very exact!
Spectacular.. I needed a light meter for my Agfa Speedex B2 folding camera but my light meter was from the 70's so I figured I give the App Store a chance to impress. I can not believe that there is actually such and amazing film photo. App out there. Spectacular. Amazing. Perfect. Wow. One small complaint though: please take more consideration into really old cameras (1840's- 1940's) most of the cameras that I use fit into that time bracket and they simply don't have some of the shutter speed times and aperture settings that the newer ones do.
Great!. Super easy super useful. Love it!
Received A Charge. I was uninformed that the app cost and I was charged for it without my knowledge.
Confusing. I don't like it
It works!. Simple and easy to use
Works great with Ambient Light. This App works just like my Sekonic Flashmaster L-358, with notable exceptions. First, the iPhone should point at the light source, and does not have a dome for gathering average light intensity. Most importantly, I use my Sekonic for setting studio strobe and portable flashes in manual mode, which represents about 90% of my usage. Otherwise I just use my 18% Gray Card to lock in proper exposure with my in-camera meter. This App is sure fun though, and is great for studying light intensities and camera settings. My phone is ALWAYS with me, while my Sekonic sits at home between scheduled photo shoots :-)
Way Cool! Could use a couple things.. An option to incrementally change the size of the metering area all the way to full frame metering would be nice. The ability to save meter readings for highlight area, mid tone, & dark area and then auto apply the zone system calculations to get zone system exposures. I have been informed that the iPhone SDK does not yet support this ability but I still like this following idea just incase they ever do open up these functions in the SDK: "Using the ambient light/auto display brightness sensor that is above the screen next to the proximity sensor to improve exposure accuracy."
Best of the bunch. I'd been using that other light meter app for a while and have been more or less satisfied with the readings, but it had some usability issues. This Pocket Light Meter is great on all fronts. Continuous metering so I don't have to "take a shot" every time I want a reading; the metaphor of "locking" any one or two of the three parameters (shutter speed, aperture, ISO) is much more intuitive than with that other app; and the visual cue I get when "spot" metering... these are all very nice features. If there is anything to improve, I'd say just work on accuracy and/or features that help with attaining accurate readings. Oh yeah, people complaining about the iAd?? Pony up the darn $1 to get rid of it!! You're saving tens if not hundreds of bucks with the app. Sheesh.
Wonderful. This meter is spot on and convenient. Once in a while I will compare it to my Sekonics and built in meters on some of my cameras. It compares.
Best Lightmeter App. Not quite as good as a Gossen Luna Six or a Pentax Spotmeter, but darn close.
Problem debit. Hello Was purchased (pint for the developer and get rid of the ads $5.99) The amount was deducted in two installments Please follow this problem Thank you so much
Easy to use and free too!. This is my first purchase of a light meter. A huge timesaver. Often times I want to use a certain f stop but I don't have the precious time to do the math in my head as to what I need to set my shutter speed and iso at to get the perfect shot. This is an easy to use tool to getting the triangle correct every time. I tested the light meter against my D300 and it's spot on in almost each case. If I notice the meter is off on my camera after using these settings, it's always been my fault because I metered at a different spot than I actually focused onto with my camera. Then all I need to worry about is making a simple adjustment of the shutter speed and I'm good to go. Highly recommended and it's free to boot! Thank you for this!!
Acts like a spot meter. Nice.. Acts like a spot meter.
Holy freaking crap, it works!. I got a Mamiya C33 Twin Lens Reflex camera a few days ago, and took it out to test with half a dozen rolls of Velvia and Ektar 100. I'm out of town for the holidays, so my Sekonic L-358 (real light meter) is 1000 miles away, and the only camera I've got with me is a little S90. I figured that this app would be better than blindly guessing, and that I'm experienced enough to tell if the app was way out of the ballpark. Well, I just got my film back, and everything that I used the app for is within a stop of accurate exposure, well within the range to safely scan and correct in photoshop. The stuff where I thought I knew better? Not so great! Now, I can't speak for really difficult situations. Most of what I used the app for was in daytime shade or full overcast, both of which are relatively consistent lighting situations. (Obviously I was able to use BDE/Sunny 16 for the sunlight shots.) Still, for walking around with a meterless camera, this works quite well. Oh, as for the four stars, it's mostly down to interface. It's kinda confusing, and the behavior of the "buttons" seems kinda inconsistent. Also, it can take quite a while before the camera "stabilizes" and can give a reading, but I don't think that's the dev's fault.
Pretty accurate. Easy to use. Needs update. Accurate. Easy to use. Bug changing the EV compensation where you have to force quit the app.
Don’t buy. This app is no longer supported by the maker but they still sell it. I tried to buy the option and the developer told me they no longer support this app.
Save your money. The setting will not automatically adjust. The shutter speed is the only thing that moves. Aperture and ISO don’t move unless I move them. What’s the point! Save your money.
Great.. Works really well!
LM. With very little work could be just as good as more expensive models
Add Filters. Good app. I request that ND filters are added.
Great light meter. Seems very accurate and love the log feature!
Not very good. Just did a test on 2 shots outside, both times I was under exposures by about a stop, maybe a bit more...my gray card is much more accurate...dumping this app
I absolutely love it!!!!. I have purchased several apps for light metering, and I continue time after time to come back to this one. I absolutely love this app, it gives me the right settings for my Nikon DSL, even for night shots. I can't say enough about this app, and if you are looking for a light meter to get that perfect shot... Need I say it - ok, I will... GET THIS APP, YOU WILL LOVE IT TOO. I can't wait for a new update, to see what they add next, and if you guys read this review, if the next update is as good as I am sure it will be, I will definitely get that beer for ya. Thanks for all the great work you guys are doing. Steven
Not accurate. Love the format of the app but it always made my pictures too dark. I just relay on it for the iso.
Bummer. Does not act like a real light meter
Spot on. This app matches my meter on my T3i, my T4i, and my Sekonic classic meter as well. Nicely done.
Not accurate enough. Meter reading with the app aren’t as accurate as a camera meter or a spot/ incident meter. I only use this if I am desperate. Even using Sunny 16, adjusted to your environment after a few months of testing, is more accurate.
Alright but.... Seems quite accurate so far but UI update desperately needed, also unsure what to do when "too dark" notification is displayed
Stop working. Every thing went well. It's a handy Meter. Fairly accurate. White balance is a handy temp. However recently I see a message:" too dark" and it freezes.
Not great. It just says "too dark," and it hangs frequently.
Love it..... I do
Why do I have this app. I gave it a 4 and I don’t know how to use this.
I don't need my Luna Pro. I was looking for an inexpensive light meter to give to a family member who wants to learn to shoot film. I found the perfect twin lens reflex camera and could not find an easy to use and inexpensive light meter to match with the camera. I use a Luna Pro but something like that would be more than I paid for the camera. I took a quick look and found this app. I just love it. It is so easy to use. It is always in my pocket. Now I find it my go to light meter. I can grab any of my vintage cameras without meters and not worry about keeping keeping the Luna Pro with me. One other unexpected consequence. I no longer feel my non meter cameras are lacking anything. This is easier to use than many of the onboard meters on many cameras. I would rather shoot a rolleicord with this app than a late model rolleiflex with a meter.
Pretty impressive!. Haven’t failed an exposure yet. I do recommend it.
One of the best. This app is best for those who shoot film with older cameras that lack a quality built-in meter and would like to have an idea of how their scene may look with different exposure compensations. After playing and comparing readings with my digital slr I have to say it's quite handy and accurate (in reasonable light). An area meter reading with selective spot metering. Like using your camera, however, you must understand how it measures your scene as a posed to how you want to see it and while this app will not replace my Sekonic meter I certainly won't be upset when I forget it at home and need to break out my phone.
A bit more walk thru. Show me what I’m doing wrong when my photos are overexposed
Good but the ads are annoying. If I want a light meter I'll drag my Spectra out. Looks like it might work, but not worth my time to test it. The images of the app in iTunes do not show the annoying ads that scroll across the top of the app. False advertising on the part of the "seller." If some one is dumb enough to pay to place adds in an app, fine, but I don't want to be bothered, and I especially don't wish to have messages pop up asking me to review the app. You bugged me, you get a less than stellar review. I'd rather pay a dollar or two than see ads.
Great for Long Exposures / Pinhole. My needs are special: A light meter capable of f-200, and the consequential long exposures. I'm a pinhole photographer using medium-format film. My exposure times range from a few seconds to several minutes. Most apps like this cover only the usual f-stop range, and they can be ugly or exasperating to use. Pocket Light Meter keeps it clean and simple. I'm definitely in the demographic that's willing to pay for something really useful. And this app is worth a lot more than "free" to me. I'd like to buy the developer two pints.
Thumbs up. Excelent
It used to be good with Luxi. Now it doesn't do Lux at all.. This app used to give Lux info and take the Luxi for incidence. Now it does not. Garbage.
Masih. I have a Sekonic 858 but this app is very usefull
Works great for all formats. Been using it for years and actually works very well.
Simple. Great! Used it for years, just finally had time to leave a review.
Crashed. With my iPhone Xs MAX iOS 13.3.1, this app crashes every time during launching the app??? Please fix it, thank you
Very cool app. Very useful and accurate for shooting with cameras without TTL metering. The log function is supercool and no need to write anything down when out in the field. And it's free.
This app needs a serious update. It looks terrible and is laggy on the iPhone X. Instant regret paying 11$ for this
Pinhole photography essential.... If you use a pinhole camera a light meter is essential. This is the one I use.
Simple and it works. It’s great to have this app when carrying a light meter isn’t always easy.
