New and Improved!. I have had this app for years and wow what an improvement! Functional yet beautiful, this is truly one of my favorite apps and I have suggested it to all of my girlfriends. It is so easy to use and the product designer who created the update deserves a raise! BEAUTIFULLY done and you can tell what hard work went into it.

Good reviews but needs.... I like this app because in general I can see their rating and make purchase decisions based on them. I also like to read their taste tests and see if I can taste the things they do. But I find searching difficult, and often cannot find what I'm looking for. Label scanning, as us used in other apps, should be added to this one. And although I think the $2.99/month subscription rate is fair, I think I should get more for the money and have all the access that I would get on their website. Wine reviews need to be updated more frequently.

Subscription Paywall. I already subscribe to print and digital, so was surprised to find the app also requires a separate additional subscription. Subscription fatigue is a thing for a reason. I understand the technical integrations on the backend make it difficult for the dev team to understand who is already subscribing to what, but luring loyal subscribers (or anyone really) from the App Store to slam into an immediate paywall is very bad customer experience. WS should know better.

Excellent!. Have been using this app for years now and it’s very easy to use and the info is terrific. Love this app.

Fresh design. The new version of this app is extremely user-friendly. It allows you to browse by year, type, country, and so much more! Any wine enthusiast needs this.

Love it!. I’ve been using this app more and more since I’ve moved back to NYC. Being on a tight budget means it’s important for me to find a wine review that I can trust. The tasting reviews on this app help me make better buying decisions, ultimately saving time/money normally wasted on unknown wines.

App is unstable. I agree with other reviewers. Just recently the app is acting unstable. Each time I open up my Wine Spectator Plus it pops up a window offering a free 30 day trial and then and ongoing $2.99 subscription however I have had this paid subscription for a long time and now it keeps asking me to “Restore my Purchase “ in order to gain access to something I have subscribed to for 5 years ??? I hope they fix this bug I will cancel. It’s very annoying. I also got charged $4.95 from this app today and that is on top of the $2.99 monthly subscription fee. What happened to this app ???

Great reference. This app is very helpful when searching through wine shops and online retailers for fantastic wines and deals. Would really love to see a section broken out for highly rated under $50. Also more comprehensive search function by varietal and ranking. A built in cellar option would be handy to keep track of personal wines and ability to manage as new are added and others deleted. Barcode reader would also be handy. Picture of label in review would be fantastic. A bit pricey for annual access

Update to earlier review - WS application support team is excellent. I have deleted my earlier review about the application becoming unstable. After I wrote that review the WS support team contacted me within hours of the review being posted. I worked with level 1 and level 2 support. It turned out that the problems I experienced could not be reproduced, which is not uncommon in the computer world. I reinstalled and the app has been working fine. It may have been a problem during the initial install. My recommendation is that if you run into any problems with the app hanging or crashing, uninstall the app and reinstall it. It worked for me. Also, based on the other reviews it seems like my issue was an isolated incident. I also want to point out that the WS support team CONTACTED ME to understand the problem in more detail. This is very unique in today's support environment. So if you do have a problem, let them know and I'm sure you will get to a timely resolution.

Wine Spectator is trustworthy. They do truly blind tastings. The reviews are detailed and it also gives me an idea of when they will drink their best and how long to cellar. It’s simple for anyone to understand.

Great reference. Baby steps... Wine is so complicated and overwhelming that one needs to take baby steps to narrow the ocean or choices. And that is what this guide does: it helps you narrow down (a little) the choices between good and so so years. I use it when I am discovering a new wine. Once I am a little more familiar with the wine region and grape, I can venture outside of this guide to look for better deals. (because everyone is buying the good ones from the good years...). The fun part starts when you can get RID of this guide. In a few words: a great guide, and as with all great guides, the sooner you can break free from it, the better.

Terrible customer service!. My subscription expired but my attempt to renew on the app did not work. Called customer service to resolve twice. Unsuccessful because reps can barely speak English and could not explain a confusing array of options. Finally, I gave up. Renewing not worth hassle.

Not sure yet. I'm not sure yet about this app since I just downloaded it. The first thing I noticed that was a real hassle was that it does not support multi-tasking. If I started a search, left the app and came back, it did not rturn to exactly where I left off. That is a big negative. The second thing that I wasn't too happy about is that I tried to look up 36 different wines and it was only able to find 11 of them. That's a bit disappointing. I was not looking for anything too obscure. These were wines you could purchase at the local wine store, grocery store, or find at a mid-range restaurant in my area. I also searched for several from wineries in the California wine regions and it could not find any of them. I'm not sure if this is because the app is a bit snobbish and doesn't have the wines that the average person would encounter or the database is just severely lacking. I was disppointed when looking at the Vintages section of the app and to find that Temecula or South Coast was not recognized as a wine region. It's a shame that area is not getting any recognition. Other wine apps include this area so I'm not sure why this app has left it out. I'm disappointed that the search feature only seraches by wine name. I would love to be able to search by varietal, region, rating, etc. I'll have to further assess that app but so far I am really questioing if I want to pay a monthly subscription for an app that so far doesn't seem to be very useful.

Only access w/ paid subscription - no basic access anymore. Just like others noticed, this app now only works with a paid subscription that amounts to $36/ year. Like other users, I decided to press the delete button and after many years of use (10y?), it now is history and no longer on my phone. I used it now for many years mainly for a quick look at the vintage charts and every once in a while I also had a subscription but I found that unless you are in the industry it’s not worth spending this for occasional use. I’m not a fan of a subscription model, especially not for things you only need once in a while. I thought it was a good play on their part as a teaser to get the magazine or even if you wanted to get individual ratings which were only available with a subscription. Maybe it’s worth if you get it as part of a magazine subscription as well but not as standalone. WS mentioned that their website is mobile friendly and the basic info is still free on their site.

Double whammy. As a subscriber to Wine Spectator magazine, you are now going to charge me for the mobile app. I’m planning to delete app and may not renew subscription.

Great Ratings, not enough wines. I love this app, but there are not enough everyday brands. Moreover, great ratings for wines most of us will never be able to buy are tantalizing.

Beautifully-designed and easy to use. I downloaded this app because I love wine, but I’m not a connoisseur. The app is pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate! My favorite parts are the “Newest Values” lists-I’ll definitely use these when I go to the wine store. I also love that I can create my own lists. When quarantine ends, I hope to visit wineries in California and will create a list for Napa, Sonoma, etc. Thank you WS!

Helpful Tool. I spend every summer in Europe (the three best reasons to be a teacher--June, July, and August), at least half of it in France, and though I am an amateur oenophile, I cannot keep all vintages in my head. This tremendous app, along with all the rest of my life that I now carry in my pocket, serves equally well when wondering why an otherwise highly regarded wine in a shop seems to be significantly underpriced or in navigating large top-flight wine lists and small obscure ones alike to arrive at the best value-for-money choices. For value, read "pleasant delight". --sleiii

Irritating your loyal subscribers. I subscribe to the magazine! I subscribe to the website! And now you’re forcing me to subscribe to this app just to get the vintage charts?! This makes me so angry that I’m considering canceling everything and sending my money to Enthusiast, Advocate, and Decanter instead. I have now DELETED THE APP since the paywall was instituted, after using it frequently over the past couple of years.

Paywall now keeps me from using. Wish Wine Spectator would bundle this with print or digital magazine subscription.

Gotten better over the years, could be improved. This app has been around forever. If you look at the reviews some of them stretch back 7 years. I've used this off and on during that time, and it's gone from a borderline useless app to one that is pretty useful. I agree that the WS subscription model requires you pay separately for this, print magazines, and online access, but that aside this app is worth a few bucks a month if you buy wine regularly. Many times ratings labels in stores are for different vintages or releases, so it's good to double check. My one suggestion to improve this app would be to filter based on number of cases released. Many of the higher rated wines have very limited releases so it would be nice to sort out the ones you know you won't ever find in the local stores. Also adding the ability to filter multiple years. Currently you can only filter by one year at a time.

Good but. Missing a lot of wines Always one I need so it seems……..:

This app is literally amazing. I normally stick to the same brands of wine because I like to stick to what I know but this app has definitely changed that for me. First of all, the app is gorgeously designed!!!! I was amazed at the sophisticated simplicity of the design, and I LOVE how user-friendly it is. It’s so easy to navigate through the endless offers of this app. I can’t wait to try the wineries in California, France AND Italy (whenever COVID allows us to do that) and this app has made it easy for me to have it right at the touch of my fingers. Thank you for this app!!!!!

Serviceable Wine App. Ignore all the crybaby people who complain that the app costs money. If you want value and quality, you pay for it. Obviously. You want free, crappy reviews from non-experts, have a good time. You want discussions and ratings from world renowned connoisseurs, pay for the app. On that same note, the free content has many wonderful articles and expert advice. I have removed one star because there is confusion about what content is on what source and there is no way to get an easy answer. I want to be able to have one source, pay one fee and have access to everything.

App will not load. I downloaded the app. When I try to subscribe, it just spins infinitely. This occurs on my phone and iPad. Not worth the frustration.

Every wine was been awesome. I’ve bought three bottles of wine so far thanks to discoveries on this app, and all of them have been exceptional! Waaaay more reliable than crowd-sourced wine apps where every wine is 3.5 stars. The reviews here read like poetry—I know exactly what the wine will taste like, and find myself rereading the descriptions as I’m drinking to help me detect new flavors. The user interface is gorgeous and easy to use, and I’ve already created wine lists for gift giving, buying again and wines I want to try. A+ app design!

Disappointed. For years this application had free version which was sufficient for basic browsing. Suddenly the only option became a paid subscription. While I never used premium options I don’t have any need to use them in the future. Feels like extortion.

It's a vintage chart. In it's present form, this is a vintage chart and nothing more. A reliable and somewhat detailed vintage chart, mind you (e.g., includes separate entries for white burgundy, red Côte de Beaune and red Côte de Nuits, not just France or Burgundy, but for Italy, has only Tuscany and Piedmont), but otherwise disappointing. I do find it useful for picking wines in restaurants, but otherwise, not the type of experience that Wine Spectator readers expect. In particular, the map is not well implemented. It's just a map of the world with no connection to wine. It doesn't link from the vintage charts, and it doesn't show, for example, the villages of the Côte de Nuit in case, as often happens to me, I am uncertain which Burgundy vintage chart to call upon. The app is free, and I suppose you get what you pay for. I would gladly pay more for more.

App is now paid only. Vintage information is gone.. App is now paid only. Vintage information is gone. Garbage update. Awful money grab. Guess just use vivino

App doesn’t allow subscription. Just circles endlessly when trying to sign up for paid subscription. Useless.

Very helpful. I work in the wine industry and I have to say that this is a very informative and helpful app. It is great to have an on hand reference for general analysis of vintage quality in prominent wine producing regions. That being said, I do have A couple points of constructive criticism: 1.) there are some generalizations about AVAs that could be fixed. For instance, listing the same in depth vintage reports for Paso Robles and the entirety of the Central Coast of California. 2.) While I realize that even in the Southern hemisphere the 2010 vintage is a little new to have been comprehensively reviewed, it would be nice to have a preliminary analysis. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next update. Overall, however, a wonderful free app for basic information about quality of vintages for major wine producing regions that are commercially available on the West coast of California.

Forced payment. Used to be the go-to app for knowledge of vintages and wine related articles. Forced to subscribe to use at all. Deleting app.

Del Dotto 2011 cab. Much derided vintage. This is doing well at 10 years. Light color full sensuous nose. Blackberry slight black licorice and fruit finish long on the mid- palette. Good for another 5 years. Drink through 2026.

Love it!. I was always a fan of the Vintage Chart card that Wine Spectator put out in the magazine once a year, but now I have it on the iPhone. Sometimes all I want to know about a wine/region is: was it a good year. This app does that. there are a multitude of of apps that give detailed reviews, but most are cumbersome, unwieldy and most often, don't have the data on the wine you are looking for. This app is simple and to the point. Biggest complaint: they should decide if they are going to sort Regions/Appellations by important or alphabetically. I vote alphabetically, I know how to read.

Love the info in this format!. While I have a subscription to the magazine and website, I love how handy this app is. I can't tell you how many times I've pulled this app out when I'm in a restaurant trying to pick out a bottle of wine. Especially when traveling abroad recently, when I didn't recognize a single bottle of wine on the list (and I usually feel like I know my way around a wine list). It was so helpful to have this app! My other favorite use is to mark "favorite" wines and then I have a shopping list for when I go to a wine shop.

Animo 2016, Napa valley,Cabernet Sauvignon. Napa Valley- Cabernet Sauvignon

Quit whining. This is less a review and more a comment on most reviewers of this app. Quit whining that you're somehow entitled to something you have not paid for. Publishing a magazine in print and online is expense. For a magazine like WS very expensive. WS is not gouging anyone. It is seeking to run a business reasonably and profitably. Because you paid for information included in a print edition or online does not mean another means of disseminating it, in this case a mobile device with all its additional inherent costs, would or should be free. What you're paying for is convenience. That you paid for access to the information previously in a print format is irrelevant. If you want to carry around a stack of magazines to make informed choices in a wine shop, by all means do so. But if you want the convenience and ease of use that comes with accessing the information from your iPhone expect to pay for it.

Greed Kills a Great Idea!. I pay $50 a year for WS online where I currently have to interface via a browser to search for wines. I had recommended an app exactly like this which streamlined the wine search process but had never thought they would have the audacity to charge $3/month extra for that service. If this doesn't change I'll cancel my current online subscription. I could see charging a few dollars for this interface to a service that I already pay for but an extra $36/year is just plain greedy. I'll pay more than my current subscription for knock out features like an added barcode scan to search your database, or menu/textual scan which could list the menu wines back with their respective scores and recomended drinking window. Please reconsider your pricing rather than infuriating your loyal customer base by charging so much extra for a better interface to something which they currently pay for.

Excellent app. I am surprised to see people complaining about this app's content not being free. I would agree with those who already subscribe in print and/or online and have to pay for an additional subscription, but otherwise you get what you pay for. There is a massive database of high quality professional reviews and the app does a fantastic job with its predictive search and recent searches. I think it does exactly what it should do with the exception of helping you find the wine for sale, which its competitor app Robert Parker does quite well.

Nothing for me. I get nothing out of this app. On the rare occasions (maybe 1 out of 5) that I find the wine I’m searching for, the newest vintage is 8 or 10 years old. Maybe it works for somebody but not for me, I’ll be canceling my subscription.

Fantastic App. I’ve been using other wine apps for years, but I find it difficult to gauge if I’ll like something based on a crowdsourced review. With WR+ I know I’m getting an expert’s opinion and rating! I love that I can save and favorite wines- it makes shopping so much easier because I already have a list with options. Definitely recommend downloading- worth every penny!!!!

Love Wine Spectator!. This app is terrific!! Makes looking up wines to read reviews and see scores easy! Convenient for wine shops and restaurants!!

Easy to use & reliable. I have had this app for quite a few years and found it easy to use. And WS provides reliable reviews that are not overly inflated like some other review sites. Highly recommended.

Used to be good. I used this app frequently whenever buying wine but now it says I need to restore my purchase in order to view the ratings? Yet their website says the wine ratings are free on the app. Somebody needs to figure that out because something is wrong. Either the app or the website.

Love this app!!. If you love wine like me you need this app!! It’s so easy to use and great for finding new wines to try. Love that I can keep all my favorite wines saved in one place as well!!

An add on cost to the magazine and no longer offers vintage charts. After subscribing to that magazine for many years, I occasionally would also pay for the digital version. Now that the app removed vintage charts, I’m just not going to renew the magazine either. I get you have to monetize things, but if I can’t even review a vintage chart on my phone in a wine cellar or store where you often don’t have internet access, I can’t justify spending anything with this company.

Needs better list capabilities. I have been using the website for both ratings searches and keeping track of my cellar. The app is much nicer for searching with the infinite scrolling and easy sorting. However, I’m not sure I’ll take the time to add my wines to lists. There is no way to search a list and no way to see what’s in the drink now window in your cellar. I’d really love a filter or two so I could an Italian red that’s ready to drink but will be past the best drink window by 2022, for example. So this is nice for being in the wine shop but not useful for being at home and trying to figure out what to pull out for dinner.

Used to work now requires expensive subscription. Some features were free, now you cannot use unless you pay hefty subscription. Had to delete

It doesn't recognize my subscription.. I have an active subscription and the App does not work on my phone.

No content without subscription. It’s not a free app with additional features, if you pay for them. Now requires paid subscription to access any content. Used to have free content within the app.

Handy app. Great

Helpful app. Really into the vintage chart especially when getting wines from overseas as it helps narrow the search. I use it allot while at my local cellar door

Well worth having. Best for Old World wines, which suits me!

Good but.... Good ap, but clearly with an American focus. Realizing this and not knowing any better I believe the USA ratings to be highly informative. However the Australian charts are very misleading and lack any useful detail. In fact it appears the ratings were derived at by rolling a die, with no correlation to local opinions of vintage qualities. Also, NZ is an obvious and strange omission.

Only useful if you can use it.. What a shame that an opportunity is lost. If you claim to do a job then do your research!! I only hope you remain in the business of selling wine and not making it. Based upon this ap your wines would be very thin blends showing no regional terroir with minimal time in vat before being released showing green tanins, poorly developed nose with no length.

It's just an ad. This "app" is just an enticement to buy the full app at a monthly fee. Not even a free sample, so cannot even tell if it's worth anything. Complete waste of a download.

No use with out subscrption. Is it worth a subscription? Who knows. Can't use it for anything with out paying.

Average. Not great or accurate.

Mmm it's ok. Could be better

Why use the charts. It is great to be able to quickly get an insight into the regional performance for each vintage.

Review. I think this is a good start but needs to be more regionally based, not just North and South Rhone for example. Also more on Australia! It has the beginnings of becoming a great database over time.

Accuracy of info. Any app is only as good as the info it contains. Working closely with the Australian wine industry I can tell you the rating for 2003 and 2006 as stated are just wrong. 2003 was an excessively hot vintage whose wines have aged poorly and 2006 is widely regarded as the best vintage since 2004. Erobertparker also rated the 2003 too highly and when I informed them that the local opinion was not favourable from leading wine writers they thanked me for the feedback and revised their rating down - good on you Mr Parker. Spectator said nothing.

Good but more depth required. To make this a great, not just a good, app more AOC, DO, DOC, GI etc. info should be included

Ok, but where's the full WS App???. Handy application to have I guess, very generic in its reference however. The real question is, where's the WS App??

Brilliant app. Highly recommend getting this!

Cool little app. Seems really handy so far. All of my friends and sommalier was impressed with my newfound knowledge of wine.

Good but limited. It's not very hard to review a vintage... Sub-regions need to be more extensive. Too limited.

Nice App,. It doesn't worry me that the App doesn't cover Australia and NZ properly. I can get that elsewhere. It does cover Europe and America very well and accurately in my opinion. Easy to use.

Great index. Very handy to have when shopping or ordering in restaurant

"free" for $2.99 a month. App has basically no use unless you pay the $2.99 a month subscription fee

Just right. Quick easy to follow app to chase down great wine info from across the globe!

Worthwhile For An International Perspective. This app is US based, so most Australian (and NZ) wines are not covered. Notably, the scoring system gives lower results than we are used to. Nonetheless, quite valuable for getting an international view.

Good start!. Good general reference. Would love to see more detailed info.

Good for old world only.. I like it for the old world info, as living in Australia it's good to check for the stand out vintages of Barolo, Ribera del Duero etc.. However as many other reviewers have said it is very biased towards the over priced and US

Not enough granularity. Somewhat useful at a high level, but the lack of granularity prevents this from being very useful. It needs to look at both sub-regions as well as grape variety as not all varieties will respond in the same way in each season within a largere region. What might be a bad year for Shiraz and Riesling may well be a satisfactory or good year for Mataro and Gruner Veltliner within the same region. I would also like to see Australian regions such as Hunter Valley, Tasmania, Great Southern, Margaret River, Mornington & Bellarine Pensinsula, Yarra Valley, Heathcote, Coonawarra, Pyrenees, Rutherglen, Grampians, Adelaide Hills, Fleurie, Hill Tops and other major Australian regions and terroirs listed.

Australian info. I was excited when i saw this App, but was sorely disappointed. The info on Australian wine areas is woeful on two counts. 1. It lists 3 wine regions but misses other major areas such as the Hunter Valley in NSW, the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, margaret River in Western Australia, & others (esp in Tasmanian). 2. Overgeneralisation: for example, Coonawarra is a region which encompasses many wine estates which have numerous wine varieties- however the program doesn't recognise this & just lists years & weather & effect- this area is vaste. Another example is the listing for Barossa & McLaren region- these are in fact 2 separate regions quite a long disrance from each other, with different climate patterns & soils which impact on the grapes in different ways, & the variety if grape types vary. Overall, a very unhelpful App, from an Australian perspective. Suggest the developers come & tour Australia & then re-write the App.

Wine Spectator Reviews. Good general international quick reference. Could be more complete in covering Italy. Grumpy winebibber.

Persevere.. Useful.Needs to be updated.

Handy App. Handy pieces of information though would like to see Western Australia added to the database.

Not functional. Never have been able to get it to load or run. Sounds good, but no use if it will not load on my iPhone here in Australia.

Vintage chart by WS. Somewhat useful as a quick reference guide but not enough detail or differentiation to be of any use beyond that.

Best Wine App in World. This is a fantastic wine app. Very up to date & easy to use. You benefit from a very regular updates. Last month when there was a problem with accessing tasting notes the response from support was immediate. You get what you pay for - timely expert advice. Love it.

Don't bother, no regional or winery information. How you can put all of Australia's wine regions into only 3 categories (Barossa and Mclaren Vale, Coonawarra and Victoria) is stupid! Don't waste your time, seriously

Needs more info!. Needs more info Tuscany And Piemonte is not enough info for italy Sassicaia Ornellaia??

Canada?. Where is Canada in the list? The Niagara region and B.C. have fabulous wines! Also the names of wine suggestion would be nice.

Need's more info. Already subscribe to WS magazine and online, so was disappointed that I couldn't access anything other than vintage reviews.

Good ... But not quite there yet. As a Wine Spectator Subscriber, I m deeply disappointed that my current subscription with WS does not carry over to this app, where I have been asked $2.99/month for a service which is already accessible online to me. That being said, I'm sure the modifications are great, but since I cannot access them I am forced to simply discredit the app's usefulness and validity. A deeply disappointed WS subscriber.

Useful Tool for Oenophiles. Well-considered and useful tool for oenophiles, however, lacks reasonable Canadian content.

Ok but not wow!. I was expecting better from WS. Hope eParker will come up with a vintage chart too! The left and right bank indicators are not a good idea, please list the regions instead.

Canadian reviews please. Just wondering if Canada could be added? We have a few good ones!

Ridiculous. I agree with some previous reviewers! Not only am I subscribed to the actual magazine but also to the website... I find it ridiculous that we members must dish out and extra 3$ a month to use an app that will supply us the same rating information. A shame even! Wine Spectator: think about your current online subscribers and less about your pockets!

Canadian award winning wines???. What happened to the Canadian wines? It's sort of like the American grade 10 geography test where only 30% of US students drew in Canada above a map of the United States. Canada exists and so does its wines.

Good in a pinch. Most helpful when faced with two unreviewed wines from different vintages or regions. Improves odds when choosing wines blind. Not the everyday goto app, but good in a pinch.

Review. How about Canada & New Zealand? Being able to get older vintages and more specific areas would be great also.

Helpful but lacking lots. This is an easy to use app but lacking lots of content including the vast array of award winning Canadian wines.

So-so. Not very informative. Lacks regions, e.g. in Italy it only covers piedmont and Tuscany.

Decent. Good app overall but needs many more regions added. A Canada section would be appreciated. More explanations as well.

Not so precise. Was hoping to type in year and region and then have specific wineries listed but currently is too generic. Was specifically hoping to know a Mondavi 1991 Pinot Noir but that year isn't even listed. Canada should also be listed here - there are a lot of great wines that should be mentioned!

Where are Ontario wines?. Niagara region? Really?

Canada eh!. No Canadian wine reviews! Come on. Niagara wines have been winning awards for years.

Basic. Ok. Lacks Canada.. The app. Is competent but strange menu hierarchy that does not take advantage of Apple interface guidelines to provide more info per view and accommodate easy back navigation. No Canadian listings...

Double Dipping. I have the online subscription why are they charging for access to the App?

Terrible. It says free but that's only to download the app! LOL!!! It won't work unless you subscribe for $ Rip off!!!

Canada?. Would get a higher rating if (like others have pointed out) the app incorporated a wider spectrum of countries (ie. Canada)

Italian Wine. How come do we find so few Italian Wine The first or second more important producer ?

Very Disappointing. As a long-term subscriber, I find it offensive that I have to pay an additional amount to obtain wine review information that I already have access to online. I'm a huge fan of Wine Spectator, but this looks like a poorly thought out strategy. I hope they reconsider.

.. Would be great to see indepth regional maps, and wine reviews for Canada

Canada makes wine too!!. It would be nice to have some reviews on Canadian wines.

Less info. Not much information, chart is a good tool, not much.

Where's Canada?. This is a great tool, but it's missing Canada...nothing from British Columbia or Ontario-Canada's primary wine regions.

Good concept. This app has good roots, with lots of room to grow. When more regions get added (Canada, more old world appellations) and more detail gets added to vintage comments things get good. When reviews of representative wines from those regions and vintages get added things get great! Keep working on it WS!

Great when it works. I'm getting way too many error messages on the app at the moment when searching for wines. Works really well when it works

Wineries. Wine names or wineries would be helpful.

Canadian content?. Where are all the wonderful Canadian wines? Hmmmmm. Typical wine dictator style.

So far so good. Incomplete but so far have been useful. Would be nice to see a retina display-compatible version.

Limited information. A lot of good wines & countries missing.

Very disappointing!. With the reputation of WineSpectator I was expecting more. So many good appellations missing.

Pay again?. Nice idea, but if I already pay for accessing the ratings online, why should I pay again to have it on a app? Unless... I cancel my other subscription.

Vintage chart. The application is for iPhone. It will be nice if there is an application for iPad.

Fairly useless. Too basic. Canada, home of many great wines, does not make the cut. Overall disappointing.

I agree. Where is Canada?. Canada should be added eh?

Ok app. Need to have more info. Like paring info and wine names .

Good if current. I wish I knew when "not yet ready" applied. Is this app current to December 2010? I just opened a 2008 Zin from the Napa Valley that doesn't seem right on, and the app tells me that it's 'not yet ready', but I don't know how current the app is, so the value of the info is moot.

Scanner. Well researched and full of information. It doesn’t cover well the Canadian market. It also lacked a bar code scanner for researching a single wine quickly. You must enter the information correctly to get the right information which is cumbersome when shopping for wine at a store, cellars or winery.

Ok. Good app but it needs to be updated, no vintages more recent then 2008

O Canadaaaaa. What about Canadian wines? Still, not much info on types of wines. I am removing this app.

Rob. App no longer loads my subscription as being active. No way to contact the company. Keeps charging me and no access.

Place to grow. Excellent app to help us decide which bottle to open and which to keep, but many regions are not (yet?) represented.

Decent start. More regions, incl. Canada, would be nice.

Handy App. I find this app very useful, especially for US wines, less so for other countries because the detail is not there. For example, Italy has just Piedmont and Tuscany.

British Columbia and Washington state have some spectacular wines. Living in the Pacific north west [B.C.], I have sampled some very remarkable award winning wines that richly deserve recognition by WS. IMHO, "WS" stands for Wine Snobs, and are very myopic in their focus. If you are not aware of the rest of the world, then shame on you. Pull your collective heads out of..... C'mon guys! Get with it! I would gladly upgrade my app to the fuller version, but not if I'm only getting some of the information that I seek.

1997 brunello argiano. Just opened a bottle this week the wine turn breakers red and not drinkable. So the Brunellos don’t hold as well as the French? I always thought brunello could hold For 30 years or more?

I need to pay again?. I pay for the magazine... I pay for the online content. Now they want me to pay for the same content again on my iPhone???? No thanks, WS.

Feel like a pro. Great, quick reference when you're standing in front of the retail display trying to make a decision that will give you the most bang for your buck. The notes are very helpful - don't make all of your decisions by the ratings alone.

Monthly fee?. I’m already a subscriber to WS and I thought this would be a nice complement to the magazine so that when I’m at the wine store, I can look for the ones I’ve flagged as interesting. But $3 per month for the app when I already have the information I need through purchasing the magazine seems silly. I would have possibly paid a one time fee of $10 or $15 but I’m not paying for yet another monthly subscription. I was really hoping for something better.

... Love WS' new app and I don't mind the small monthly subscription. I have been a fan of their magazine for over a decade and finally I have a mobile tool to use in conjunction with the printed version. I'm finally bought a wine cellar and I like to create shopping lists with the "Favorites" function. Way to go Wine Spectator!

Useful and efficient!. I use the vintage ratings the most and I think that it is very straight forward and easy to use. I liked the encyclopedia/glossary as well. My only qualm is that it is not updated in a timely manner for recent vintages and this render it useless for buying recent releases at the wine shop. It seems to me that it is more geared toward being used in the restaurants than the wine shop.

Worth the $2.99. I find that I use this app all the time—saves me so much time when I'm ordering wine in a restaurant or picking something up at the store. Sure, it costs a little each month, but I figure that's a small price to pay for NOT wasting my money on bad wines!

Very Handy. This app is helpful when buying and evaluating wines. There is enough depth of information which makes it a handy tool to have for regions and vintages that you may be unfamiliar with. And, coming from Wine Spectator, the information can be trusted. A definite must have for anybody in the food and beverage industry, especially for the price.

Minimal Value. Just having a vintage chart really doesn't provide much value and certainly doesn't leverage the potential of mobile apps. I can carry a vintage card and get the same basic info. This site will be much more useful when you can scan wines at a store, get instant ratings and reviews, and link to other places where the wine can be found with relative prices.

"Free" Version Worthless. Nothing of value in the "free" version- you must subscribe to get any reviews, even if you subscribe to the magazine. I'm feeling gouged by Wine Spectator and now that Wine Advocate is available on iPad thru Zinio, I think it's time for a switch. App is just bad programming- new versions to update wine entries?!? Really? Shouldn't this be done over data in the background? On the plus side, the app is so worthless that you will delete it, keeping you from being that tool in the restaurant that uses his iPhone to pick a wine.

Worth the upgrade. I held off for a long time upgrading to all of the reviews. Long story short, it's the best wine app for getting quick info that will help with your buying decisions. For the cost of a bottle per year :). I hate wasting time in the grocery store or wine shop looking up wine info. It can be slow and frustrating. This app makes it fun and quick.

The average below 1 star. Can't believe the average shows anything more than one star. Look at the reviews from all of the versions. Simply greedy. Greedy!! To draw you into an app then charge you a monthly fee as exorbitant as this, especially when many of us already subscribed to the print or online versions, is just ridiculous. And somehow the average shows greater than one star. Look close. This cannot be possible. If I could give it zero I would. Most people would… Just awful.

Shanken's Fleecing of Wine Aficionados. Unlike some of you, I only subscribe to the online version of WS enabling me to get the content on computers. The magazine is nice, but I'll save a tree. Online costs me nearly $50 a year, and they automatically renew like clockwork. It's like Hotel California, I occasionally check out but I'm not sure if I can ever leave. Mr. Shanken should be ashamed trying to sell me the same content three times. I consider my iPhone and iPad to be small computers and I already bought that service. In the words of Steven Wright: "I bought some batteries and they weren't included, so I had to buy them again." Step off, Marvin...

Wine Spectator WineRatings+. Am I loving this! I had Spectator's Vintage Chart app and also use their website when at home, but this takes it to a whole new level of convenience when I'm out. It's easy to use (I didnt have to ask my son for help even once haha) and I've saved the subscrip fee many times over already by getting better wines for less money.

Good app but could be better. While the app is informative and does allow you to track favorite wines, it would be even better if it allowed you to rank wines so you can keep track Of the ones you don't like as we'll. I would suggest a star rating system (1-4) so you could look back when you're at a store or restaurant and don't remember if you've had a specific wine.

WineR. Very good for what it is. I look at this as a first step. What varietal, what year. I do know my wine very well but in the absence of a photographic memory, this app gets me close. In this context, I would like to see more AVAs. A map which overlays the AVAs on known geography would help teach and provide advanced selection criteria. I want Benchland Cabs would now be possible.

Very Useful. While I agree with others that the content should come free with the print and online subscriptions, the app is very easy and quick to use in restaurants and other situations where you want a quick check on a couple of ratings. The app is very easy to check and the database is extensive.

Very Informative. A lot of information and videos in the Learn section for a novice like me. The news feed is interesting to browse through. Navigation is intuitive and fast. The extra cost for new ratings every month seems fair. Nice upgrade!

Concise & Convenient. I used to keep the print version of this guide in my car, BUT the app goes into more detail while always being at my fingertips. Also, I hear a lot of people saying it's just a "simple" app... Yes, they present clear, concise ratings of vintages but don't overlook the W360 section which has very interesting articles on current events in the wine industry. Cheers!

Almost worthless if free and not worth $2.99. The Wine Spectator executive editor touts this App as improved and expanded—I can't remember how bad the first version was only that it stayed on my phone for one use only. The new version is still crap—very little free content is provided and…the only worthwhile content provided at no charge, Vintage Charts, is watered down using the same descriptions for all California Regions. For example, Examine the Santa Barbara, Napa and Paso Robles Syrah charts have identical vintage descriptions but different ratings. How can that be? I already pay for a print subscription, why am I forced to pay again for the same info available in the magazine? Classic greed failure.

Restaurant Manager. The new app is great! I find it faster and easier than the website. It's a great tool to use on the fly, and the fact that I can store my entire list under personal favorites makes it even better! The only improvement would be to make it free with the online enrollment.

Issues with iPad version. The app works well on my iPhone and used to work well on my iPad, but, after the most recent update, I can no longer use it on the iPad. When accessing the app, I am blocked and prompted to start a 30 day trial and a subscription, which I have had for some time. When I accept the offer of a trial, I am told that I already have a subscription, but am still denied iPad access. Will wait a while for a bug fix, but will discontinue my subscription if not fixed. The app is suddenly unstable.

Fantastic First App. I've been waiting for Wine Spectator to release their first app. I'm a long-time subscriber of the magazine and also use their mobile wine search with regularity. What's most impressive about VC+ is the sheer amount of thought and polish that obviously went into it. Even though the app's main focus is just to display vintage charts they really went over the top on execution. Favorite Parts: - Wine Spectator content (I'm not sure where the other vintage chart apps get their content) - Beautiful design - Lots of extras (google maps, articles, etc.) - A WINE NEWS FEED(!) - this alone could have been its own app I use a 3rd generation iPod Touch and the app runs great on it. I can't wait to see what's next!

Potential. As it stands now, I like this app's navigation and look, but it is extremely basic. I think, however, it has potential to be a really first rate tool, if the Spectator is willing to download and continue to update reviews. That alone would be worth paying for. They might subsidize the cost with links to individual winery websites and/or online merchants. C'mon, Spectator, commit like Zagat and a few others!

Vintage help. While in some cases general in nature this has helped us estimate the right time for opening a particular vintage. I like the advice we received on a recent trip to California of "if it tastes good to you now drink it now". But hey, it can be even better. My biggest concern is drinking a vintage too late, well, it would be if they hung around that long. Try this app, we like its easy interface and quick result.

Even paying for the app won’t make the paywall disappear. I’ve been a subscriber for about a year, and while I found the app to be pretty great overall (super useful to have vintage charts and trusted reviews at your fingertips!), with the most recent update I am unable to access the content, as the paywall seems to have ignored the fact that I’m already a paying subscriber. This is especially annoying as I’m currently in wine country, so now would be the time that this app is most useful to me, but alas...

Good for choosing gifts. I don't drink but will bring a bottle of wine with me to dinners or as gifts. This is a great way to make sure I'm buying a good wine instead of an awful one. It would be nice to be able to look up a wine based off of the brand name though. Sometimes finding the location where it is from is challenging though.

Impressive. Okay so you have to invest a little money, but there is a huge up-side. Already a lot of wines. Super-easy to use. Great for value wines especially. And if you get tired of finding old wines' release prices listed as value, refine your vintage search to get current bottlings. But really there is a ton of information here. And the thing is fast.

Wine 'App'elations.... The WS App for garnering wine info is somewhat of a high level overview as another blogger recently noted, however it does serve a purpose in the wine decision process. I recently used it in an upscale seafood restaurant to discern a light bodied red, for dining companions wanted something outside the fish = white genre. I was able to ascertain quickly that in 07' some great Pinot Noir's had been produced in CA. Worked out great!

You're kidding, right?. I've been a subscriber to (and huge fan of) WineSpectator online for years and have been anxiously awaiting their wine search app since I first got an iPhone. Can't tell you how disappointed I am that I can't use that feature of the app without paying an extra $36/year despite already paying for online access. Not only is it frustrating, but I am now embarrassed that I've been their advocate for so many years. Why would a company choose to alienate its loyal customers that way?

Useful but skimpy. Fine for what it covers, this app scarcely grasps anything like what one is confronted by when working through the wine list of a finer restaurant or the liquor store shelves. Many areas are lacking, and as others have noted, the charts lag other sources. And while this is probably just my problem, I don't always know my right from my left banks, so classifying bottles this way is annoying.

Tremendously out of date. The app's a good idea, if a bit thin on info (e.g., only Piedmont and Tuscany are listed for Italy, Germany isn't broken down into regions at all, etc.). But the bigger problem is that it's sorely in need of an update. The most recent vintage covered appears to be 2007 in most cases, and there are gaps even for that year. With 2011s and 2010s now hitting the market for most varietals and regions, there's really not any usefulness to this app anymore, and the publisher does not respond to inquiries about when an update may be in the offing, leading me to think that it's been forgotten.

Useful App. So far, this is the only paid app on my device that I'm willing to automatically renew monthly. That makes it a five star. Overall, good breadth of coverage, with a few omissions/exceptions. Has been quite 'handy' at restaurants, and when buying in general. Everyone to whom I've shown the app has since subscribed.

Worth?. A rather limiting interface forcing you to start by country and region. How the heck do I know what region (left bank, right bank, etc.) in France wine xyz is from??? And without this information, the app rolls over. OK, on to the search tool; I searched for a Pech L'Estagnere --nothing! And I mean nothing-- no response that it couldn't find it, no response/feedback of any kind? Did the app hang? Did it check out for lunch?, etc. I'll give it a few more go's, but right now I'm pretty underwhelmed.

The Best. I use this app ALL the time, especially when in a store or restaurant and confronted with a new label. I've been asked several times in stores for information from other customers. I should get commissions from the stores for helping sell their wines!

Perfect Data saved us in Paris. Forget pulling out my iPad 2 in a restaurant... My iPhone version was perfect as I chose a fabulous Brunello while at Il Sorrentino in Paris. We chose the 1999 Biondi-Santi per the reference table which showed it as Hold ... It was amazing !! Best I have ever tasted so this info pays off! Again and again! Next will be an Amaroni - he he! No room on the table for my iPad anyway. Try this place too.

Great for the Novice. Being new to the joy of wines I have been really impressed with the information provided. The information is also in terms that this novice can understand. From information received I have been able to select and enjoy some outstanding Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Useful if you know how. I always find the overgeneralization of wine quality purely based on region and vintage to be a little misleading. However, it would also be foolish to completely ignore it. This app allows you not to ignore this information when selecting a wine to cellar or to drink. It is easy to use and reasonably comprehensive for the main wine regions of the world.

Almost perfect. This is almost what an app should be - access to a vast database at exactly the time you need it: in a restaurant or a store. My only quibble is that it seems to take a bit too long for the database to be updated with new ratings from the magazine. Fix that (and improve the search function a bit) and it really will be perfect.

Lame. Just downloaded this app. Maybe I'm an unfair reviewer because I develop apps for my job and my husband is a Som. But this doesn't seem to offer anything worthwhile as a "tool." Generic descriptions of vintages with "drink or hold" ratings, news (who cares?), and "wine education" (who uses an app for that?), and you have to pay to upgrade to Search (search is a standard feature everywhere else, and doesn't warrant an upgrade). If you want to remember wines you taste, see what others say and catalog them, this app doesn't do it. Deleted.

Handy reference. Very useful when shopping at the supermarket or wine store. Disagree with the greedy comment from the reviewer who complained about the extra cost. What is he going to do? Carry around every issue of WS? Maybe write down every rating? If the monthly cost saves me from buying one middling wine a month it is well worth the price.

Great Vino App!!. This is a wonderful application if your in the store looking for a decent bottle of wine to drink. It quickly gives you the possible flavor palate you might experience. You can easily decide on a decent vintage for any occasion. The only drawback of this application is you can not search by vintner or get any pricing on a particular vintage. Hopefully that will soon change. All in all a great free app!!

Good, does what it says.. This is a good app.. I can't say that I find it all that useful though. In all honesty, how many of us buy wine according to the vintage. You go into a wine shop, pick out something that sound, or looks good, take them home and drink them. I think I've only bought two or three bottles in my life based on vintage. And have never not drank a bottle because it was recommended to store for a while.

WS Vintage Chart on iPhone. I have one other for inventory of what I drank, but need WS's Vintage Chart to determine if I am drinking the "expensive" wines when I have an "over burdened" plait. Really great fast accurate chart for home or store. Saved a good bit $$$ at the store passing on some of their recommendation. Using the app ALL THE TIME. Thanks.

Pretty good; bet it will improve, too.. Simple, convenient navigation; relevant info; could use more data, e.g. they grow syrah in Carneros. Obviously they have to make generalizations on vintages but a good start, and I think WS will get there. I use this 10x more than I use any other wine app, and it helps give quick conviction at the wine shop or restaurant (so much faster than other sites iff you know the producers, varietals, and regions you like but you don't have the vintage map in you head). Considering it is free, no brainer.

Excellent app. Who can remember all this stuff? I've been following wine for almost 50 years and you would think that I would have it all down. Yes, a good bit of it I do. But now I have this handy dandy and reliable app to fill in missing pieces. I use it all the time.

Dougdux. Simple, easy to use, and, most importantly, reliable. While I'm sure there are numerous exceptions to the yearly vintage ratings, this app has proven to be a reliable source of input, especially when trying to decide whether to purchase wine without the benefit of a prior tasting of the product.

Facebook issues. But LOVE this app!. When I had this app on my iPhone 5s, I could upload reviews to Facebook instantly, now no sharing options go through, and Facebook isn't even listed. Is anyone else having this problem? I am an avid poster to help spread the word of the amazing wines in this world, I would like to continue to do so.

Novice reporting. I downloaded app and used it within hours at a restaurant where other several friends were having lunch. The app was slow to respond but eventually provided amusing rudimentary data about a region and varietal. The data was accurae if a little vague/general. I believe it to be a reasonable first start for free app. A better perspective would be to materially expand the app and charge a fee fir use.

Nicely done update. This upgrade offers quite a lot of useful data in an easy-to-use format, with an expanded Feed that has lots of additional articles. And they've added more info to the vintage charts; I’d like to see them continue to expand this area. All the reviews you get are quite a bargain for the monthly fee!

Wine. Very helpful and is a very useful app. When looking for certain wines. Plus it is useful if you are just trying to kill a little time or brushing up on your wine selection. Can not carry a Wine Spectator magazine around. I have found it very useful. Like most it would be nice if it was free since I have a Wine Spectator subscription. Anyway a very nice app to have when buying wine.

Pretty Good. There's nothing wrong with this app that I've found. It would be nice to be able to go into and out of the app without it having to reload each time. I use it to get an idea of the quality of the vintage. However, if you're looking for an app that has reviews/scores of particular wines, you may prefer the Wine Enthusiast app. This app serves it's purpose very well but don't expect it to do anything exceptional.
