Good Does Come Out of It. I love meetup so I can go hiking with other people. It’s very hard to make friends for me so I suggest choosing an activity you enjoy. Fortunately, the first meetup hike I went to was great. The second was just ok. The third was awful. If I had chosen the third one first, I wouldn’t have used this app ever again. But I learned which ones to go to that fit my needs. I took off one star because there are some great groups I would be interested in but they haven’t held an event for years. Meetup should remove those. I strongly suggest choosing events that more than 10 people have replied to, because some don’t show up without canceling their RSVP and you can end up with only 2 or 3 people which can be very awkward. Most people that choose meetup as a way to meet others are very plain regular folks and very nice in all shape and colors. But you still have to be careful because once in a while you will see someone who may not be trustworthy. That’s why larger groups are better. At the walking/hiking events, the attendees are there for fresh air, get in shape and because they haven’t spoken to anyone for a whole week. I am very grateful for this app because there are so many people who have no one.

New app is unusable. For what it's worth I find the newly launched app very challenging to navigate and pretty much unusable. The old app worked great and things were where you expected them to be. This new app has me adding myself to groups without knowing it because I mistakenly touch the wrong place on the screen. I can't find things when I'm looking for them. I can barely find how to message. I click into my group looking for a list of upcoming events but only see details of the next event. Additionally, I find myself clicking things multiple times to get links to respond. Also, we still can't upload multiple photos at once which was my number one peeve with your old app. Definitely not a fan of this new app. The old one worked really well. Why not just make that one better? This new app is a huge step backwards. 2018 update - the app is still unusable! I'm a programmer by day who can now barely find the list of upcoming events for my Meetup groups. Before there was a very obvious button which showed all upcoming events. Why is that gone? Isn't that the main reason to have this app? Also, the photo uploading process is still just terrible. This new app is a huge step backwards. I wish you guys had fixed the issues with the old app instead of rebuilding it into something we can barely navigate or use. 2021 update - Uploading photos is still so buggy! Constant errors while trying to upload multiple photos. The error is generic and offers no direction to fix the problem.

Invasion of Privacy. Most groups require you to answer very personal questions in order to screen your intentions. That’s okay. But your answers are available to the public. This is a security flaw if any of the answers are siphoned to steal a person’s identity. It could also have negative implications for something like when employers are searching for ways to determine who they think you are. For instance, if I wish to join a group for people with disabilities, forcing me to divulge what kind of disability I have in order to join the group is a violation of my rights according to the ADA and also tells the world what is wrong with me since the answers are public. Now a potential employer knows I have autism and may choose to not hire me. And yes this was a question in a high functioning autism group I tried to join. They wanted to know what my diagnosis was. Along with a warning that the answer would be public. The solution to this invasion of privacy is to only allow creators of the group access to answers.

The Meetup app does for mobile what the Titanic did for cross-Atlantic travel. To say this app is poorly designed and act like that was the main problem would be doing a huge disservice to their exceptionally incompetent dev team. This app seems to stop working every time Apple updates their software and emailing their tech support general results in you getting a reply a week later asking if you can try again using Chrome. You explain for the fourth time that you using the app isn’t the issue, the issue is your group members not being able to sign up for your events. I run two groups with a combined total of over 4000 members. I can exactly go to all of their houses and tell them to try a different browser and maybe they will be able to sign up for the event I am hosting. Though it’s always fun to wait a week to hear back from Meetuo’s tech support only to have them ask if I am signed in to the app or I I know the basics of how to use an app that requires users to log-in. It’s really a bummer as it couod have been a great app but unfortunately their tech support team is a giant iceberg and it’s sinking fast with all of the event hosts scrambling for the life-boats.

A lonely Widow. At First getting to know anybody else was the least of my thoughts. Losing your "right arm", what I considered my husband to be, of nearly 64 years of marriage. We were High school and College sweethearts also. So, more togetherness than 64 years. Actually most of our lives. I depended and loved this man forever. But-- Life goes on, so I finally took a step forward. Finding out about Meet Up was totally a fluke online. A new organization called "meetup" appeared. Further investigation , led me to my area in Florida. I decided, after much thought, to join two over 50 organizations. After going to visit them, I realized there were many in the same boat as I. I have to think twice about the events I go to. Sometimes.I gravitate back. And just sit in the old chair-- but then, do get up and go out to visit my new friends and realize-- I am thankful to have new friends.

Wrong instructions in App Support. App Support instructions are wrong in many ways. Someone in support should try all the instructions on each supported platform and open work a work ticket for each error. One defect example is changing profile photo on IPhone where the instructions claim there is a workaround for the defect where changing the profile photo does not show the new photo on existing group memberships. It states each group can be changed individually but there is no way to do that. It states the profile photo is used on all groups that do not have an overriding photo but that is false because it just leaves all groups with the photo that existed before the profile photo was changed and there is not way on an iPhone to override a photo for a single group. Would write a new review but this one keeps coming up. Every release forgets my login then tells me my password is wrong and forces a reset of my account. Poor human factors design or maybe no human factors design and the implementation is just whatever accidentally get put in by random developers on the team. Needs done adult supervision in the development process.

Meetup. This app has provided the opportunity to meet people and enjoy a wide range of fun activities. The groups that are successful have planners and hosts that are engaged. It also helps to have multiple planners with larger MeetUp groups. I have found that many groups start out but fizzle out because nothing interesting is planned. The organizers are sometimes reluctant to accept help from others and want full control of the group. I joined one group that had over a 1,000 members. Unfortunately the planners organized no activities. The group became defunct. However, other groups are very successful and plan thought out activities of various activities. I will continue to focus on the groups that are organized. I am single living alone and this app has given me the opportunity to meet people of similar interest.

Great but $$$$$ to start a group. I like this app. I’ve been able to meet people and while some didn’t work out as I hoped, I feel confident that I have a good group of people for what I want. The downside to this app, paying money to start a group. $15 per month is pretty high for something you might not use in a month or so. By that I mean, you could move on to another thing to look for or another type of group. I think that fee per month should be lower (currently is 50% off) or just have a flat rate to have the group permanently open. Close groups that are not showing any activity. I think sending a notice to the members that this is going to close works fine. But in the age of Facebook and other sites, charging people money for things like this will kill this app and allow another that doesn’t charge a fee to come to life. Aside from this, you do have a good chance of finding what you want on this app.

Great App... better people!!. This app is easy to navigate. I like that you can go in and take yourself off an even you have RSVPd for if you have something come up. The reminders are also great to your email because we are all so busy already it’s hard to keep up with so many added events. I was a little cautious at first. I’m not the best in most social settings and definitely not good at just going out and meeting random folks. My husband thought I was nuts but he’d do anything for me... so here we are. Had our first meet up and it was great!!! Everyone was really nice and the organizer was very good at laying the ground rules...ie. No bullying, no phones during movies, always be respectful, and have fun!! The people we met up were all from different backgrounds, had different careers, interests, personalities, etc., but it meshed well. I did not at any point feel like we were being rejected or ignored. Just an overall great experience with wonderful people MY age!!

Great concept, but app has some weird behavior. I love how easy it is to find and create events. The app just has a few areas for improvement. First off, the app will send you notifications to sign up for events that have already closed their RSVP, that are full and have a long wait list, or that you've already signed up for (just got one as I was writing this). Additionally, the notification system for messages and event chats is unreliable, and one must manually refresh the event page to be sure you're seeing the latest messages. Just tapping on a notification for a message does not necessarily mean that that message will be shown in the chat when it opens. Sometimes you need to do a manual refresh. Also, it would be really nice if time-sensitive notifications for events that already happened would get cleared automatically. I can easily end up with 30+ suggested event notifications in the app for events that have already occurred. It's a lot of noise that drowns out what I might actually care about. Lastly, it would be great to be able to set a distance radius for suggested events. I live in a major metro area and sometimes events in my groups are close to me and other times they're 1.5+ hours away. Overall, a great app and service, but soon room for refinement.

Needs Curating. I am very sick and tired of people using this site for free advertising, cult-like techniques, and the kind of pressure you’d find at a pyramid scheme interview or conference. Some are more subtle but just as subversive. I make an exception for those who are doing the thing that they have mastery over, even if it costs a little money (membership fees) but those groups have NEVER pressured me with upselling. In fact one reiki master even gave me a wonderful gift of a herkimer diamond geode. Unfortunately it was stolen, and that broke my heart. It was such a thoughtful and meaningful gift. If you’re interested. She operates out of Rocklin. I’ve had a few glasses of wine so my memory has left the building but I’m almost positive it starts with a K like Katherine. Girl if you see this and I’m wrong, call me! I recently discovered I have a brain tumor so I haven’t had time to come around. And I had to move to Tahoe just so I can get some peace.😜

Great for travel. 3 years after becoming a first time mom, MEETUP has jump started my social life again!!! I relocated from NYC to south Florida when I was 8 months pregnant with my little one... needless to say, between being a new mom and moving to city with a MUCH slower pace, my social life pretty much took a deep dive then careened to the floor... when I was ready to start going out again, I had less than a handful of friends in my area who wanted to do the same things and were available at the same time. This led to constant cancellations and a few awkward solo outings. With meetup, I was able to connect with Like-minded women who were doing the kinds of things I liked to do so I could go out without the stress of having to do almost EVERYTHING alone. I also really like that I can send messages to the event hostess in advance if I have questions! Nowadays, I’ve been traveling to different states and I like to use MEETUP to find cool things happening in other places before I go!

New to the area. I have found Meetups to be very helpful in finding activities (so far only sports for me) when you are new to an area. I recently moved to the Sacramento area and I found myself becoming a homebody and lethargic. I previously was active on different rec teams, my kids were younger and kept me busy coaching or training them, and without Covid19 my circle of friends were always doing something. But since I have moved all that ended. I haven’t made close friends through Meetups but everyone I have met has been very friendly and welcome new people who enjoy whatever the activity is the group was formed. And there are many, many groups, social, online learning, all sports, age defined and more. I would highly recommend at least seeing what groups are near you, if you find yourself with free time and wanting to do something more productive than tv. Chances are there is a group set up for people with similar interests as you. And there is no obligation. Try it once, see if it’s for you. If not, look for another group.

Ok for members, coordinators, not yet.. Easy for exploration and joining. Still needs some work for coordinators. Starting a group guidance could be clearer. I didn’t realize my preliminary group description and tags were to be published immediately upon approval. It would be nice to give a coordinator the option of deciding when to publish after approval. Could also make the iPad interface more easily maneuverable and manageable for coordinators. After a couple of weeks going in circles, finally deleted the app and went back to Safari. Better, but have some suggestions. Menu bars/options could be better organized. Members could be on one side bar with applicable menu items; and events could be on the other side. It would be nice to have option of msg board fixed to home page to see/reference along side discussions board. Unless new members know where this is hidden, the messages go unnoticed. Thanks for developing this app and continuing improvements.

I am a three year Yogi. I have serious heath issues.. They gave me 3 months to live so I had to fight back. I started doing yoga 7 days a week three years ago. I have an auto immune disease call sarcoidosis. My heart was so enlarged I could barely get out of bed. My lung captivity was less than 50% of normal. My heart went back to normal and my lung capacity had been greatly increased. But the prescribed drugs I take for quality of like are deadly. A drug called prednisone destroyed my hip and cause bone death to the hip bone and hip joint. I was out for about 6 months before they would or could do the replacement. I flew through the surgery and recovery in the mist of another miracle. The Drs gave the credit to my faith in God and Yoga. These online classes are a life saver. I had the surgery on Feb 12 and have recovered 99%. I leave the 1% to allow for carefulness in learning new hip poses. I met Black to Yoga at their outdoor classes in Emeryville about a 18 months ago. The instructors are amazing and well practiced. I am a Yogi for life. This online Yoga durning the Corona Virus is a part of my full armor. Namaste

Won’t load!. I have an iPhone 12 and Verizon but this app continually won’t fully load unless you have all bars and are standing under a cell tower with your phone held up. What that does is make it impossible to get a read on the event- if it doesn’t fully load, it sends you to a “you have no events” or “this page has been deleted or no longer exists” and you think the event is canceled, or it loads partially and does not give you a current attendance. If you try to rsvp it says it has a network error. This has happened for my first two events and so I deleted the app and now go straight to online. I almost missed the event this week because it partially loaded and showed only two attendees and really 9 were going. The ratings on this app Should be for the app, not the events. This app is the absolute worst. I will Probably quit meetup strictly because this is the most inconvenient and glitchy app. Please remove the reviews for events and just post the reviews for the app, so we know not to download it.

How else ?. It's tough for me to socialize. Even when I want to , it's not easy to find what will work. Meetup has given me a chance to connect with people based on mutual interests without feeling forced to socialize more than I want to. I started out with a movie meetup, something I often do alone.i had the option of socializing after too. Next I tried a local place where we could play video games and have snacks or drinks . I then found a group that meets up at a coffee shop to get paperwork done! I had been dreaming of finding something this, I even tried to place an ad for a buddy prior to meetup . I haven't tried started a meetup but it's also a possibility here. I found fellow sci fi lovers too, who knew ?! There are lots of groups for outdoor exercise like hiking and biking and during this time of distancing it may prove to be healthy endeavor. The fact that I can pick and choose is ideal. If you haven't tried meetup I say go for it! I am normally leery of people too and meetup provides a nice balance of meeting ,safety, interests and exploration. The groups are generally closed I found that to join I can say a bit about my interests and check out other profiles. I love that I have been about to hang with a 70 yr old and a 20 year old finding common ground. I can leave if I want or stay for the duration. I can talk sci fi or knit ,color or draw , exercise or chill. It's all there in meetup !

Clunky + Alert bugs. First, this update has caused an insanely annoying bug where notifications won’t clear. Again! I hate having that red dot and so I’ve had to turn off notifications until it’s resolved again. There already was an issue where if you get one notification that you subscribe to, the number changes to include all alerts total and that includes the “suggested groups” that you can’t get rid of. Second, as many others have said, the U/I is not very user friendly. There is no way to make defaults to be for your groups instead of all groups in the area and search isn’t very easy to use either. As a site, and the reason for the 3 stars as opposed to 1, I do enjoy it. I like that I’m able to meet people with similar interests and likes. For the most part I use the site instead of the app because navigation is much easier and intuitive plus it feels more features are available that way.

Love Meetup!. I love the Meetup app! It’s pretty easy to use, it allows us to keep in touch with each other. Activities’ information is clearly posted, we can comment and even download pictures! I first joined 2 photography groups in Texas about 10 years ago, I loved meeting with people with same interests as mine. We would go to different places to take pictures, it was incredibly awesome! Sadly I had to leave my groups due a horrible accident, I was totally incapacitated for 4 years but after surgeries and extensive therapy I can finally walk again. We recently moved to Oregon and I already joined 2 groups, I was left with some physical limitations but even though I can’t do as much as I used to do before I’m able to meet with the guys . . . If it wouldn’t be for this app I would never be able to stay informed of my group’s events and activities.

Fun community, terrible app. I love going to Meetups and even started organizing them. The app however is really bad. It feels like their Product Managers must just look at engagement metrics and never actually use the app themselves. If you change your RSVP to an event, you will still be notified and cannot remove yourself from the event chats. If I’m no longer going, why would I want to stay in the chat!?! I also want to limit the ridiculous number of notifications I receive after joining a lot of groups and instead of having a simple way to turn off all notifications of one type, I need to go to each individual group and select which notifications to toggle on/off. Why in the world do they not have a universal option to toggle those settings on all groups? While these are just a couple of the Quality of Life issues I’ve run into, I also run into bugs on a regular basis where my events/groups/profile do not load correctly for a period of time. I’d recommend just using the website for now.

Needs work.. Interface and navigation is still confusing, needs some simplification. For one, make “Discovering New Groups” it’s own section or something. At one point I had two different searches going in that between the “Home” and “Explore” tabs. Very confusing trying to figure out where I was and trying to get back. Also maybe consider unifying the Notifications tab at the bottom into the Chat & Messages button/section. That’ll give you space for a new button or section in the future. — COMPLAINTS: the app tends to just lock up randomly, won’t respond to any touch inputs, very frustrating. And the search function itself tends to be a joke. I search for “muscle cars” to try and find an automobile group nearby, and the results I get are for a Writers Group, and Environmental Action Group, a HAM Radio Group, and a Weekly Movie Discussion Group. What the heck does any of that have to do with cars??

Ummm, wow…. I downloaded the app because the website is so broken. It froze when trying to log in. I had to close the tab and start over. Then it wouldn’t load my profile picture correctly, it kept putting it sideways, no matter how many times I told it to rotate it. Then, when browsing for a group, the page wouldn’t display correctly and stopped responding to clicks. So, after fighting the broken website I came to the App Store to grab the app, only to find that they don’t have one for iPad, so I get a tiny iPhone app on my iPad, making it that much more difficult to work with, but at least it let me properly upload a profile picture… the second time I tried. The first time it glitched on me and removed the picture I already had without replacing it with my new one. I first started using Meetup about 10 years ago, so it’s very disappointing that both the app and website have so many problems. These issues are something I might expect from a small startup, but not from Meetup. The only reason I’m giving 3 stars is because, if you can get past the numerous bugs, Meetup is a great way to connect with people who have similar interests. I actually just adjusted my review to 2 stars because I’m so sick of the barrage of emails. Dozens per day. It’s ridiculous. I’ve now completely turned off email notifications and will likely not use this app much. I’ve found Facebook groups to be a lot easier to use.

Great for the Spiritual Community. I have found incredible Meetups in different cities across the country for spiritual events that I may not have found otherwise. In particular, I love how many people who host Reiki circles utilize Meetup. I have enjoyed the many yoga instructors who post on Meetup and host their sessions outside of yoga studios in parks, beaches and chapels. I have enjoyed the hikes and philosophical Meetups and the vast array of groups that I can Meetup with and connect on shared passions no matter where I am. I love the app, very easy to use. As someone who runs a Meetup page, I also find the options as an organizer to be easy to use as well. Thank you for this incredible platform!! I also love that this is a great resource for those who do not wish to be on social media but still want to stay in the loop about what’s going on around town. All-around great service to the world! Thanks!!

Not Safe!!!. I have an impersonator on this app! There is someone with my same name, in my same groups and same community with my same likes. Please note that my name is uncommon. You won’t anyone with my first and last name combined. I caught a screenshot of of this other profile with a photo. It is definitely not me, but right after I took the screenshot, the profile photo was removed. I reported this a number of times. At first, I thought I may have had established an account at an earlier time and had just forgotten about it. I checked my other emails but found nothing to confirm that. Now, I have proof that this is an imposter! I want this account deleted and I want a response to my complaint! Otherwise, I have to say that the people managing this app are doing nothing to keep the people who want to enjoy this app safe! I have a valid complaint and I have been ignored! The app is a great idea but I need to feel safe. Is this imposter staking me? Do I need to feel afraid to “meet up” with any of the social groups I’m interested in? I need this imposter removed and investigated! What is going on here? How can this be allowed and after I’ve made complaints? Developers (or whomever) pease, contact me further so that I may send the screenshot. I think I might have to report this to the authorities for my safety concerns... I’m only asking that the developers do their part.

Needed to find a place and some friends!. Are used to Meetup as a recommendation from my sister who lives in Tulsa. She moved there and knew no one, so she got the Meetup app and found some things to do and people to meet, so she recommended it to me. I live in a different State and city and my circumstances are different. I stopped going out or doing anything and got depressed, so I use the app to get myself undepressed. I started out by just going to one yoga class and I just kept going and meeting new people and finding more more things to do and now I’m happy. I have also use the app to look up things for people in different cities and states that I care about and want them to find interesting things to do and people to hang out with. This app gives me the opportunity to check their area and make suggestions and tell them to use the Meetup app. What I like the very most is that it is not about finding a significant other. It is about meeting people and doing interesting things in your area.

Good, but needs some work.. The Meetup app is good, but needs some work. Sometime with the recent updates, a glitch was created. If you click a link for an event or reply “Going” or “Not Going”, the links open the app for a few seconds then are redirected to the Meetup web page through the web browser rather than sticking with the app. One change that would be great is if the Meetup app allowed replies of “Not Going” on the event pages rather than the extra steps of hitting “Going” to then hit “Not Going”. Another thing that would be helpful is if when we say that we are “Not Going” that we don’t continue to get notifications of the event and discussions. I’m a member of several groups and I get anywhere between 20-50 e-mail notifications per day of various group events. Many of them I cannot attend due to scheduling conflicts. If these changes could be made, then I’d change my rating of the app.

Good but navigation is confusing and redundant. I honestly don’t understand the quick-to-hate for this version of the app. However, they are right when they say this new version is not intuitive and doesn’t make sense. For example, let me go over the bottom 5 tabs are for navigation of critical aspects of meet ups: 1) find new meet ups (like an advanced search feature), 2) card view of current meetup groups and you’re able to browse new ones (honestly 1 and 2 should be combined. It’s redundant and is confusing), 3) the “check mark” icon tab is for your upcoming or past meet ups. This is where you go to see them. However the check mark symbol is a little unintuitive and confusing. It would make more sense to make it some sort of calendar icon., 4) group and meet up notifications, and 5) profile. The app is good, but confusing and redundant. Navigation is not intuitive. Looking forward for newer versions but I understand this takes time and resources. Keep it up.

Add a video call feature. 2021 is about connecting more than ever. Every app now has video or conference call built in. And if you add it please add screen sharing capabilities for subscription and group leaders. Thanks! Secondly I mentioning how when viewing meetup groups in the app “past events” shows before “upcoming events”. If someone isn’t eager to go through the group events they may not see any upcoming events and think the group isn’t as active. Please fix to make it show the upcoming events before past events via meetup app.///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Update: using the app it doesn’t show or accept certain links when posting new events. It will say “oops we don’t recognize this link please use a different service/link” but via web browser you can publish using link of choice. If someone is using the app and want to join video conference they will not see the link nor be able to join since it shows “TBD” instead of link. Please fix app. *****Also update so we can add video into photos albums * I want to add, anyone having issues with not liking the app via iPad just go on the website (not in private mode) sign in click remember me then add meetup to home screen as an app. Now you will view it full screen with all capabilities as the web version. Problem solved.

App in dire need of useful features. I am not certain of what improvements were made with the recent app update but I've finally become fed up with the app and deleted it. It's only set up for iPhone because why would you want to manage your meetup(s) on an iPad? It's clear that meetup has no interest in what their paying customers want or need. If you use meetup to manage your interests then be prepared to be hammered by constant emails and notifications. There is no easy way to port events to your device calendar which would be the best improvement they could implement. The app doesn't allow meetup owners to manage members, everything has to be done on the website. The real estate on the app makes it difficult to use in general. It is truly a shame the app is so bad because it is likely to drive users away from a great service. On the web I can search out related groups in other locations as I travel and there are lots of local activities I never would have known about without meetup. Ignore the app use the service.

Fun times, great friends, new horizons. When I unexpectedly moved to the city to take care of my mother-in-law I did not know a soul. I started going hiking with a really good friend in Griffith Park through something called “Meetup” This was an incredible experience with very nice people and a picnic afterwards, so I start going more often and she said to look into where there were meet ups down where I lived in the Inland Empire. So I did Since then I have learned to scuba dive, gone skydiving, have taken cruises to Mexico and the Caribbean, attended wonderful parties with amazing people, and have a close network of friends that is beyond my wildest dreams. I’ve heard comments on our cruise like oh yeah there’s that singles club or the swingers club! And I quickly correct them and say we are a social club with like-minded people getting together, you should try us out. I recommend meet up to everyone that I know, and I belong to many groups, and this made the transition from moving from one side of California to the other so much easier. I have people in my life today that I couldn’t imagine not having. The reality is that there is a meet up for just about anything you’re interested in ..... you just have to look for it. Our group does music, dancing, food and wine, and getting together for each other to support each other through life in general. It’s a fabulous way to make some friends. You won’t be disappointed.

Lockdown Life Line!!. Super happy to have joined Meet Up during lockdown as felt quite isolated particularly as new to the area. Although at the time there wasn’t much happening as physical meet ups the online sessions such as Norwich & Cambridge Piano group with zoom recitals was the first session I joined and was wonderful. A total inspiration listening to people sharing their musical gifts from their homes across the country, Europe and the following month the USA. From there I joined some yoga and meditation classes on line and then as things got going some walking groups initiated with Karen and a walk around the city to regularly trotting around Norfolk with whoever has availability.. I have been really impressed with all of the meet up organisers and admire their time and commitment to others for the joy of sharing their hobbies, talents and knowledge. I would like to add I was a bit dubious as to how genuine Meet up be but now feel totally relaxed about joining a group. Everyone has been super welcoming and accommodating. I have also met some interesting people which has enhanced the activity to give a really nice social experience. I do find lots of activities are on a Sunday morning which is understandable. Would enjoy a bit more on Saturdays and late afternoons in the week, oooh might have to try and organise something myself and give back to the group....

Portrait only view...very impractical...not for tablet audience.. I HATE this app for one very significant reason. It’s portrait only. Desktops, laptops, even TVs are landscape. I have a new 2019 iPad Pro 12.9” screen, with split screen capabilities, which I use a bluetooth keyboard with. Turning my device on it’s side, which isn’t even supported by most cases or stands, just to view the few apps that are only available in portrait mode is a huge inconvenience and disruption to my workflow. I hope this is not the case, but please understand, to iPad users it seems like the developer is cutting corners, or just taking the lazy way out by creating a one size fits all app, that they are designing the app for cell phone users only, forcing tablet users to use it on iPads/tablets with no regard for those user’s needs, instead of designing two separate versions for two different devices, and essentially, two different audiences. I’d love to use this app, because websites don’t always function predictably on mobile devices, but it’s too impractical. Without a portrait viewing option, you are potentially alienating an entire audience.

Amazing app in many ways. I love this app this is so much better than a dating site, after all life is about meeting people that have similar interest allowing us to build relationships and trust as we get to know people. I know the few groups I have been part of has provided such a comfortable envirment to talk with everyone and see what you have in common. People you might have never talked with if you were focused on just dating allows you to really get to know people and can take that time to see who they are by asking questions and seeing how they act around others. I can say it feels like extended family. The other nice thing is that Admins can pick and choose who they want to be part of the groups so if you just dont fit your not getting in. This helps keep groups safe and comfortable unlike dating sites that have no filter can hurt or damage someone wanting to get out and meet people. It almost feels like speed dating where you get to talk with so many different people with not hidden agenda. After all is that not what we are to be doing anyways, building relationships that start as friendships and see what comes from that. What we will find is that along the way we have developed many great friendships and relationships along this journey.

NOT HAPPY AT ALL. Not sure my first review showed on here what I originally wrote so I’m re writing it again. So how interesting I made a new account on this app I’ve used this app for years when I was living in California I deleted this app and my first account years ago when I didn’t use it anymore and I just downloaded it again from my new email I now have so I’m a model who works in the industry referring to the entertainment industry and how ironic when I made a new account from a new email and redownloaded the app years later which is currently and now and the minute I made that new account which I never used I was immediately blocked from ever using the app when I literally didn’t do anything wrong or violate their policy rules that’s a form of discrimination. Doing that to people. I don’t know what their deal is but that’s absolutely unprofessional and disrespectful. I am not happy. I moved to Las Vegas recently wanting to use this app for fun again meeting people and I was immediately blocked the minute I made an account. Why?! That is beyond crazy and stupid. I am not happy and they ignored my emails intentionally after blocking me. why would you make an app for people to use that when you literally block them without telling them why when they did nothing wrong, how is that a professional or respectable business?

Best thing ever.. Because I Recently moved to a new area with no friends or any idea were anything is, I cried many tears believing I had made a major mistake. Thank goodness for Meetup. It takes time to learn each groups rules and I have incurred a couple nasty people for breaking a rule I was not aware of. You can’t make a reservation and be late from work, or you are there but u don’t know them and they don’t know you so you are armed as a no show even though you pay for your membership in advance. I always try to be courteous and am willing to pay for a meal when I can’t find the location. I also got kicked out of a group for cancelling a happy hour when a close family member died unexpectedly. But those are only growing pains. These people go to a lot of work and time to make these opportunities available for us. I don’t fault them, I just wish they would treat new members as a new customer to their business. I have met some of the nicest people. The app is great but it crashes on my phone every time. The software seems to be excellent and I have been making some nice friends. It’s a 10 in my book and am so thankful it is available. Much better way to meet other singles than a dating site.

Terrible App. Several issues. The app crashes a lot, especially when I try to look at photos. I always see error messages—right now I am trying to see some events for groups I am a member of, but I am getting a message that the content is not available. Events are listed multiple times on the upcoming events section. The app doesn’t allow you to customize the push notifications you receive enough; for example I kept getting alerts every time there was a discussion in a group I’m a member of, which got annoying, so I had to turn off all push notifications from the group. When you look through events coming up, get out of the app, and come back, you have to start scrolling all the way from the beginning. I would like to be able to hide events from groups I don’t want to see. The app allows group organizers to put a so-called number of guests that are coming, which is often inflated by organizers to make it seem like more people are coming then there really are. A lot of the groups were created by club promoters in order to bring people to clubs and aren’t actually real groups. Meetup needs to crack down on groups that are using Meetup to promote clubs/people’s paid events. Like 30 grounds will all list the same event, and you have to scroll through all of that.

Mostly great but…. I’ve used this app for years. I mostly like it. It’s a good way to connect with people and it’s a good way to see the different kinds of activities in my area (so even if I can’t attend the event, I’ll have an idea in my pocket for later). However, 2 things drive me kind of nuts. 1-At some point there was an update to the format of profiles of people who are attending an event. Before the update, I could click in to the event of any group I’m in, see the list of attendees, and click on a specific attendee to see their brief bio. Now all I see are the groups they are in and/or their interests. If I want to see their bio, I have to click into the group itself and search through the list of members to find the one profile I want to see. I don’t understand the logic behind this change. It makes no sense. Why have us fill out a bio nobody sees unless they happen to think of following this new, clunky pathway? Get rid of the new way and go back to the old way that made sense. 2-It would be nice to be able to decline events instead of constantly receiving notifications for events I know I won’t be attending. One of the groups I’m in has several thousand members so it’s pretty active…and I’m constantly receiving notifications for events I know I won’t attend. It would be great if I could just say no and never see a reminder again.

What a god-send for people in situations where they are lonely or want to meet new people!. The app lets you search for groups or activities or events by key word....or just scroll through all the events that meet-up groups have planned for the week and just click to join and get the info! Some are totally open to everyone cuz and some have a short screener for safety. Never found any to be scams and all are just legitimate good people who want to do activities with like-minded people. The only problem I’ve ever had is that sometimes ill sign up to join a meet-up event...like recently at a local festival ...and I get there and can’t find the group because the leader was too vague about the meet-up spot and didn’t have a sign or anything for new people to recognize the group. That’s happened a few times and is a bummer. But mostly it works out! Also, if there’s not a group already out there doing something you like, it’s super easy to start a new group with your interest....I’ve been surprised at the response that new groups get.

Review and feature idea - request. Hey y’all, I’ve never done an app review before but this has been on my mind every time I use this app for months now. Whenever I browse for events it feels like the list is bloated and searching becomes disincentivized by repetition. I’d like to see a feature which enabled blocking of groups to eliminate things you don’t like and free up the bloat within searching. Seeing the same things over and over whenever I pick it up has me not wanting to pick it up. It feels like fresh things are buried and I just am not appealed to read titles and scroll events I’ve seen every time I open this that id never care about. This app has given me good memories, albeit few, but all felt like lucky breaks and it’s felt very dry for very long for me for these reasons here. I’m here to put this review because I do care about seeing new life within this app and I’m curious about the receptiveness of its caretakers. Cheers friends and adventurers, strive to be great

Meetups THE best app hands down…. Meet ups has turned out to be a life-changing game changer there is nothing out there like meet ups it’s a platform where anybody can advertise any kind of class any kind of modality any kind of healing tarot breathing breath work and just about everything else you can think of under the sun if you haven’t tried it do it just do a search for today or coming up in your town online and see what comes up there’s so many interesting things out there and meet ups is the place where you can find them honestly it is my daily go to to find out what I’m doing today what new subject I’m gonna study some new master class of all kinds it’s really really so much fun to try all these new things you really got to try it if you haven’t already! Most of the classes are free initially so you can at least try it and see if you like it and there’s so many things that don’t cost anything if you’re tight on a budget you don’t gotta worry about it because most of the places are by donation only so you can try the different thingsAnd not be obligated to pay for some thing that you haven’t even tried it or pay for something that you can’t afford, if i could give Meetups a 10 star i would try it youll see its amazing theUnlimited variety of subjects and classesRight now since the coronavirus almost everything is on zoom so you can do it from the comfort of your own home you don’t even have to leave your house it is really really cool!!!

Social fear?. For me and my interests, I find very few people actually attend events. I see many members who join yet never attend. I don’t understand why they bother. It’s like online dating. They don’t want to actually socialize in person. Many international group organizers don’t reply to direct messages when I’m looking to meet people when I travel. Many groups seem to have disbanded yet the group is still on this platform. Many do not show active group meetings in years. There needs to be follow up on groups that are not active. I hear people use FB groups, however, I find most of those are just overloaded with advertising and it’s less social. Life in real- life just isn’t what it used to be and all these social platforms are just disappointing. The only place I find good groups are in large cities where the numbers are so high that the 1-5% that actually attend events make a decent turn out of people. I don’t attend many events I have an interest in because they start at ungodly hours like 6-9 AM. I don’t want to go anywhere at that hour of the day! I’m still in bed enjoying my morning coffee. I like to play during normal day time hours, during the week and not on weekends full of yah-whos. So I end up dropping out of many groups.

What an awesome way to connect. It’s hard to find other Blacks in tech and this app has given me the ability to do that as well as connect with all the other great engineers around the world that represent their respective ethnicities. All of my hobbies can be exercised on this app. Photography, software engineering/web development, Nature, sports, science, happy hour, socializing, you name it! You get a little bit of everything on meetup. And no one is here to tell you that something is or is not a good idea. Whatever you are passionate about can be pursued unabated and free or regulation and micromanagement. That’s the beauty of it all. Your imagination can take you and others that share it to the same corners of the Earth. So find out what you desire and what you’re into and are passionate about then go for it! Skies the limit people let’s all love and support each other to the best of our abilities. World peace, solidarity, equality, and freedom...meetup (no pressure by the way)!

Nice for community, bad for photos. Pros: I appreciate that Meetup brings people with similar interests together through events and email blasts. I am grateful for the ability to have safe online events. Cons: As a member of a large, active photography group, I mourn the loss of the ability to COMMENT on PHOTOS via the desktop app and the loss of the simple black background behind photos. Comments allowed us to support each other through praise and suggestion, to question and thank commenters, and to share techniques and locations. It is cumbersome to comment on photos via the phone app. The phone app makes it hard to get to photo albums that are independent from events. Although I also miss the convenience of having a library of educational documents as part of our Meetup group, I can live with that thanks to other online storage options.

Still Learning. My husband and I are fairly new to the area. We hoped to utilize this app to find more activities and people with similar likes and activity level. We like to golf, bowl, bike ride, walk, we’re dog owners, we aren’t musicians, artists, or historians, but we like enjoy concerts, theater, art, and history. My husband is prior military, which helped bring us together over 35 years ago. In the military communities we always had at least one person there who could recommend things and we did as well. We want to find a good community/group and enjoy participating in activities and getting to know others through this App. We’re interested in “meetup” groups who aren’t trying to network to sell something or hook-up. Just build real ‘old-fashion’ friendships and have fun. I do recommend this app. It is up to the individual and his/her time and trust level to be willing too venture out and meet and do new things.

Needs a groups and Calendar view. The app has a few critical flaws, it desperately Needs a groups and Calendar view! I miss out on events all the time because they are full, and when I get email well in advanced I have to use the web because the app can't isolate to a group view or a calendar view!! Also it sometimes does not show a price when there is a fee, there needs to be a Free vs Fee flag, with payment notes and links!! I really think Meetup is a great company, and I know that the new parent company is trying to make investments – the most critical should be software development for the platform, and just bringing it up-to-date – and figuring out a way to make stronger integrations with other platforms. it would be awesome to be able to use media and have video intros for a group video messages from the organizer, etc. etc. – they really just need to think of the mobile experience as a way to revitalize the company and the platform simultaneously.

Hidden Fees and Bad Customer Service. I only started to make a Meetup event on their website on my phone, and though I didn’t finalize it, Meetup still made me an organizer for a group which gave me an unexpected and unasked for $20/month subscription. I re-downloaded Meetup to make an event (unknowingly the app was $10), only after seeing that the event that I never even finalized, had gained members over 80 members in a few days. Didn’t know I’d be charged for anything out of this whole deal, and have lost $30 from thinking that this app could better my life. Though they collect money without explicitly saying it, they do not have a phone number to call when you find their unexpected charges in your bank statements. Much better to make meetups via a phone or email list instead of relying on these this fake and unethical service. I genuinely believe that they add members to peoples’ groups to rope them in and keep them subscribed and distracted long enough for their hidden charges to clear in you bank account.

Room for Improvement. I appreciate the concept of Meetup, but my experience has been less than ideal for a few reasons. Firstly, the issue of too many RSVPs for an event makes it challenging to gauge who will actually attend. Implementing a way for hosts to limit attendance could enhance both cost-effectiveness and social dynamics. Additionally, the lack of time flexibility for event hosts has been inconvenient. Most events are scheduled late in the day, leading to long waits and disappointment after commuting. A broader range of event times would be beneficial for attendees. Furthermore, it seems that some hosts may struggle with making new connections or already have established friend groups, creating a selection bias. I wish Meetup would address this by providing more options and perhaps collaborating with other platforms like Eventbrite to offer a diverse range of events with attendance limits. Overall, there's potential for improvement to make Meetup more effective in fostering meaningful connections.

Unable to verify account. I had been using this as a guest and decided to make an account. That was easy, however when I went to verify my account I was unable to. It wanted me to do a captcha and said I’d only have to do it once. It proceeded to make me do three of them and then at the end it blocked my account because my gmail is apparently a spam email address because their website didn’t work. I will change my review if support is able to fix this. Other than this the app has been fine. I was told it was my IP address but after they deleted my account I tried again and I was still blocked because my email address is on their list of spam email addresses now. I gave up and just used another one of my emails to sign up. I wish I had been warned that a VPN and/or custom filters can screw up account verification; I would have turned both off when I was verifying.

Pretty user friendly. I’m new to Meetup and have only attended two events and have enjoyed both outings. The people are amazingly friendly, organized and very helpful. Especially to newcomers! I like the app and would give them a 5 star, except that it could use a couple more tweaks to further optimize it. For example, it doesn’t give us an option to provide feedback (such as volunteering to drive or asking for carpooling), during the RSVP stage. Only after having RSVP’d, we must go into the general comments. Another feature would be to allow folks to see the event description without having to RSVP first. Also, being new to the area, most people don’t know the acronyms which the event hosts use in describing or the names of areas. It would be helpful to have a little more descriptions (such as the level of difficulty, etc.) for the event. The State of Washington’s Mountaineering Organization has a very good system which could be used as a model. Overall, I’m very pleased and thankful for this organization. Thank you!

So far so good.. I am a new user of meetup. But I have been impressed so far.. This app is great for business owners to be on to inform people in your area about your services and or classes; extra. It’s also great for any and everyone of all ages to use. We all at some point look for something to do while we are out of the office or home; this app is a great tool to help you find something to do. Also for people bored wanting something to do it’s a great tool to help you find places, classes, and possibly new groups of friends. It’s a good networking tool. It’s also a better way to meet people who have similar interests as me. Especially where I have tried online dating apps but I’m not really into playing “games” and found I don’t have the time for b.s. so I deleted them. But I still have meet up and I have enjoyed making real connections with people who have similar interests as me. I highly recommend this app! 🙂

Health & Well-being. Warren and Shelly provided a very thorough session on naturopath nutritional health and well-being. I enjoyed learning that naturopathy concentrates with treating the whole person and seeks the underlining cause of any problems and symptoms. Interesting to know that nutritional therapy takes into account your mental and social factors, rather than focusing on treating your illness or complaint. I am looking forward to attending Warren and Shelley’s next session in March. Tracey

Spam control would be nice. I signed up for an event with a group that operate strangely, and I thought at first it was Meetup's fault spamming me, but it wasn't. I'm upgrading my 2 stars to 5 as apology. The event was a Spanish language meetup by The Language Lovers. I then got spammed by 4-5 invitations a day for German, French, Cantonese, etc meetups, completely irrelevant to me. And requests for me to host my own meetups when I haven't even attended a single one yet to see how they are! If Meetup could think of a way to help limit spam that would be great, or introduce a good way for one organisation to have separate sub-brands of events, it would be good in this case.

A really helpful site. Having bad social anxiety and spending most of my teens/early 20’s having little to no social life and no friends, the meetup site was a HUGE help for me to make that first step to go out and attempt to make connections with people with similar interests. A fantastic site that I highly recommend

Great app. I joined Meetup last year when living in Newcastle NSW I’ve since moved to QLD and have got onto this site again and there are a great deal of social events and other activities and things that interest me on here that I will endeavour to go too. This site is Not necessarily for singles either they have couple groups too, which is a wonderful concept for basically everyone, mums, dads, kids, pets, nanny’s and pops in all walks of lifestyles. Awesome. Thank you.

Great concept to connect with anything. I don’t normally review but to reach out to new people to Perth, a great way to start new beginnings make friends, associates, you can do this on your own schedule at anytime of the day you choose find your passion, hobby or fun and join a group the possibilities are endless you don’t need an army just some courage to join. Warm regards and welcome.

Great to meet people from different backgrounds and find new interests. Great idea, good app with very few bugs Just a bit expensive to create groups. For some it is totally ok if you also make money with it. For some others, far too expensive... for example, if you just want to create a new group/ organise volleyballs/minor sport events, there is no revenue to offers the cost. Plus you have no guarantee the group will attract people... at very least, would be great to have a 3 weeks free trial as an organiser.

Disappointed. Here on the Gold Coast in Australia, Groups on Meetup are not understanding the whole concept of Meetup. Members are abusing the events by RSVP to multiple groups on the same day. Therefore making the events not worth attending due to lack of numbers. Group organisers don’t enforce strict guidelines to attendees and events. Unfortunately all groups needs to enforce similar rules to ensure members understand the Meetup philosophy. Meetup HO management should outline to group organisers why Meetup was setup. Very disappointed that after all this time, this app has become all about the money and not why it was created.

Helpful app. This app allows you to easily surf the Meetup website. Though there are some aspects I prefer of the web based version, the interface for this app is nicer and I find it relatively easy to use. I recommend Meetup (and this app) to anyone looking for something to do or people to meet and are looking for an easy method to do this.

Social proofing not socialising. Can no longer post comments either? So now it’s mandatory to select one of these ‘life stages’ to identify who you are: Recent Grad, Student, New in Town, New Empty Nester, New Parent, Newly Retired or Career Change????? So if you simply want to socialise, are single with no kids & haven’t retired, Meetup is not for you? It’s now also mandatory to add all your Socials?? It seems Meetup is more interested in social profiling than in socialising? Shame it was a good app once.

Tribute band. Fantastic group to belong to Michael and Allen great coordinators helped Me with my grief over losing my husband after 45yrs of marriage we were champion rock and rollers and loved listening to music takes me back to my youth and allows me to relive so many memories as well as a great physical activity every weekend l would be lost with out the brissy tribute band meetup

Awesome site. This is a great site for so many different things, meeting like minded people, going to new places, trying new restaurants, keeping fit and healthy, the list goes on ..... Thank you to all those wonderful Hosts out there for making this happen 👌😊

Great simple concept executed well. Meetup is a great app that delivers exactly what it says it will. It’s not complicated, yet has all the basic tools you need to create & manage a meetup group. Also perfect for users looking for like-minded people to connect with over any topic you can imagine. In today’s world of increasing disconnection, it’s wonderful to find an effective tool to help bring people together again (just don’t relax now, keep the development going!) Well done guys!

Fun & friendship. Loving the chance to get out and meet new people, get active and enjoy more activities in different locations. Living alone is great, however it’s also nice to socialise some. I am meeting lovely people and enjoying some great conversations, coffee, walks and looking forward to Bocce and more.

Easy to use, lots of events going!. I’m excited for my first few gatherings, which all vary in attendance size, and all of which I’m very interested in doing. This is a great app for meeting new people (always a struggle these days), discovering new places, and exploring new skills and activities. Because so many people use MeetUp, there are lots of things going; photography, art/design, walking/hiking, sports like badminton and footy, language, dancing, singing/choirs, DRANKING, writing, film making or watching, exploring, and heaps more, the list goes on and on. I’m glad this app exists!

versatile effective to find like minded people and get out to mingle. Basically it works. Can adjust your settings to see whatever is on near you in next few days, or just focus on the groups you have chosen. Can RSVP or cancel. Can see who else is going. Have had no ‘inappropriate’ contacts. Only weak point is messaging meeting organizer when having difficulty finding venue. I and others have had problems with this multiple times, do not rely on being able to do this.

App not giving me as organiser editing abilities. The App is now overriding the website on my iPad.. I have deleted app but still logs in. I’m trying as co organiser to edit some attendees rsvps and cannot do it.. please leave what works alone. Over the last 5 years there have always been major issues with the system on changes..

Everyone is so lovely and friendly ♥️. I love how everyone is so friendly in this group. I joined not know what to expect and was delighted to find that Maria make me feel so welcomed. She also made sure I had someone to chat to when I arrived. Maria also creates amazing events. ♥️

Love it.. but I want more. I’ve always been a big advocate of Meetup, but... could you please sharpen the tool a little 🙏 - I don’t want to see the activities I don’t want. Ie. Kids, religious - I’d love to look up what has been newly added so that I can join in with the popular group before they are full. Many thanks for a great app.

It is very good app with great service to professionals to meet up.. Lot of thought has gone to design. Less errors. UI is great. Highly satisfied with the app. They have included my suggestion so it’s easier to give feed back after meetups. Can’t say enough good things about this app. Pls keep up the good work. Communication emails from meetups are well structured and very effective.

Enlightening. My Partner, & I, decided to take the plunge, to begin our journey of enlightenment, & intuition together. Patricia, was very welcoming, and made our first session a very relaxed, & easy to follow group meditation. We both had different experiences to talk about, afterwards, and we thoroughly enjoyed the class ...not to mention a stellar sleep, that night! Many thanks, Patricia! 🙏🏻 - Trish & Zac

Meetup. Generally works very well and easy to use. The only issue I have with it is not letting me do the “it was good to see you” sends when there’s more than about 9 or 10 who attended. When you ask to Load More, it doesn’t work. Very frustrating so then I have to go to the PC (not Apple) and do it via the web connection. Apart from that I’m happy with it and use it constantly.

St George and Sutherland Book Bites. I discovered this group by the Meet up platform two years ago. We meet at lovely cafes close to home and discuss a chosen book via structured questions. This often leads to discussions about current affairs, popular culture and whatever else we want to share. One of the best things I’ve ever done!

Orgextraodinaire. Meetup is a good concept, but unfortunatly, has a lot of flaws. There’s a disconnect between the functions on the phone and a PC or laptop. Also it doesn’t have a function to allow an organiser to move people to a waitlist or a pending list, or f necessary to allow more reliable attendees to actually be on the confirmed ‘Going’ list.

App is great. The app is fantastic. I love the concept and generally there’s pretty decent events in my city. Only issue I keep facing is when I search, I can only search via Sydney city. No Australian suburbs are searchable, and anyone who knows the ground one needs to make to get from one side of Sydney to the other (minimum 1 hour travel time), it would be helpful to find local events in my suburb.

More important than Facebook. After watching so many friends disappear behind the smoke of Facebook I honestly believe apps like to meet up are so important in this society.I’ve had some fantastic meet ups myself in the past and have met some awesome people. There are so many groups so you just have to make sure that you pick the right one for you. I do think the app could be upgraded to make navigation a bit easier, other than that it’s great.

Meetup gave me a new, interesting life. Meetup has given me a whole new range of friends and I really enjoy our outings each week. I even became a coordinator 5 years ago and love organising weekly events. I can attend as many or as few as I want and I always feel safe and supported by the group. Thank you meetup

So impressed with this app!. I originally found and used this app when I was overseas as a way to find some fun things to do that were a bit off the grid. I’ve joined it again now back home and not disappointed. There are people and groups for every person and every hobby. I’m a huge introvert and get anxious in social situations, but this app gives me a heads up on where things are happening and how many people would be there. Would hugely recommend to everyone :)

Littered with bugs and support is useless. This app has so many bugs and has had for years. The platform is frequently down for maintenance and Meetup simply can’t get their act together. Furthermore if you try getting support from Meetup HQ as an organiser you will get a lousy meaningless response 2 weeks later at the earliest. When you follow up you get ignored. And god help you if you’re dealing with Olivia. She is useless and incompetent and doesn’t care about helping anyone. She a master gaslighter and too lazy to do her job properly. Either that or she just doesn’t care. Either way, the best thing Meetup can do is fire her!

Email settings selection doesn’t work. I looove this app. I’ve met many liked minded new people through it. There has been a prolonged issue of not being able to set email notifications as to your own particular preferences. I set my choices for email notifications but still end up being inundated by all my groups. Please fix. I’ve dropped my rating to 5 stars because of this issue and the timeframe that it has been going on , it should have been fixed up by now.

Constantly losing function. The team behind Meetup never seem to do any testing before going live with updates with the result that important functions disappear or can’t be used. Today I turned up as the organiser of an event to find I could no longer mark attendees as ‘paid’, ‘didn’t go’, ‘no show’ or edit their guest numbers on the app. Working as normal on the web page version but broken on the app. Was working fine on Wednesday. This is the eighth issue in the last 18 months or so. Last month all my expenses data from before November 2019 disappeared (but not the income data!). This and other new technical issues with the money page that I reported were responded to with a ‘thanks for your suggestions’ ?????!!!!! Abysmal service to organisers paying a subscription. And the robotic response I’ve just received confirms my review. Of course I have deleted and reinstalled the app - several times - to ensure I have the latest version. After being a subscriber for 7 years and living through the ongoing poor rollout of updates I don’t need that ‘advice’. And it is a waste of time sending through a fault report. It takes weeks sometimes for a response and then it is usually facile - like the last one ‘thanks for your suggestion’.

Notifications don’t work. I enjoy using meetup but it’s quite frustrating that I don’t get notifications most of the time. If I do get a notification, it’s highly likely it’s from a group I’ve turned off notifications for. I’m organiser of a group and pay a lot of money for this and it’s disappointing I can’t get my notifications when I should.

Best decision. It’s a fantastic platform to get connected with like-minded people and groups, and is easy to navigate. There are many groups, so if one group doesn’t feel quite right it is easy to test and discover another. As there is such a density of events, it makes for a great day filler if there ever is a time you want to explore something new.

Best app off Facebook for group activities. Seperate your activists from Facebook with this great app and enjoy your favourite activity with locals that have the same passion for that activity. Some activities like rock climbing require a belay partner (someone to control rope while you climb) with meetup u can be sure that there will be someone to partner with. Thanks meetup ❤️

Great not matter your interests. I’ve been using Meetup on and off for years. Never had a bad experience and it’s great to get out and about and meet new people. My only complaint is the app isn’t that great. How do you change your password?

Good features & regular updates. I run a lively meetup using the app & it’s helped us grow from 1 to 200+ members in 18 months. Our meetup attendees range from 18 to 70s & all find it straightforward to use. The app is updated regularly and new features are added - features that are useful & easy to use. My only gripe is that every few builds I get app crashing, but it’s usually fixed within a week. Meetup developers can only respond to the constant iOS updates I guess! Well done, give it a try.

Great app to connect with people. Its such a great app to meet people with similar hobbies/interests to you. I mainly use it for hiking and Brunch//Lunch/Dinner and its been such a game changer!! I’ve met so many amazing lovely friendly people. I’ve now eaten in Restaurants I’ve been meaning to go to for ages and hiked some Trails that I previously didnt want to do on my own. Its so amazing doing it with others. Thank you MeetUp

Brilliant idea!. What a fantastic idea! No more crappy dating apps where sleazebags try to hit you up. Just awesome people doing awesome stuff in social situations! Good times and good intentions. And if you meet someone special, it’s a bonus! App is easy to use and allows for as much or as little privacy as you like. I’ve started signing up all my work mates too!

With a couple of extra tweaks it would b 5stars. If I could highlight to copy & paste details into my notebook addresses and other details I need to refer to in the event listings would help immensely & save me time with greater efficiency. Ability to save events into different folders for future reference or under categories to save & locate similar or favourites easily in sorted folders. Otherwise great app and use daily & with these couple of tweaks added into the app I’d change my rating to 5 stars ! Thanks and great work !!!!

Good idea with terrible implementation. Notifications desperately need more customization. Need an option to disable notifications for waitlists being available, “can you make”, “join us” etc - if I didn’t sign up on the first email then take the hint and stop pestering me! Also need to be able to ignore events / notifications from specific organizers within a group. Photos are incredibly annoying to look through and save. Stop trying to put words in my mouth when rating an event - just accept the star rating and leave it at that. And why is it that from an event page, I can share other events but not the event that I’m currently looking at? There are share buttons all over the app but somehow not in the most obvious place!

Meetups experience. I have found that the Meetup people are very friendly and helpful, kind, caring, generous and very sociable people. I don’t mind the various age groups as I am getting quite used to that now. I am 50 years old and it’s great to see others who are a similar age to me. Being a single parent has some advantages and disadvantages as I only get to have my children every other week, as I will be having them this week, then next Monday I will take them back to MacGregor to their mum’s Aunts place where she is living with the children. C’est la vie! (That’s life)

Meetup. After going through separation & then Divorce I thought at age 61 life was over for me as the rest of years ahead I would just be a lonely guy living with my dogs & cats but soon joining meetup I’ve had more fun & laughs than I’ve had for many years & to the point I could remain single for sometime as just enjoy meeting up with so many new people but time will tell if I meet that special one

What happened to the LGBTQ+ category?. There used to be a category and now it's impossible to find any LGBTQ+ groups. My city is already tough enough to meet people and now I can't find any groups at all that I want to join. It makes Meetup pretty useless. Even searching keywords or acronyms give no results. Such a shame after I made friends through Meetup in my last city.

Tis ok.. It’s alright. Lots of groups to choose from depending on your location is cool. The interface needs to be more intuitive. For instance, if I go to ‘notifications’ and click on a conversation someone has done on a post (not my post - works for that) I can’t like or comment. To do this I must find the group at the ‘home’ page, find the topic, etc. Utter nonsense. Finally, the app doesn’t rotate in landscape on an iPad. I didn’t check my iPhone.

Wonderful app to connect ppl with similar interests. Really grateful for this app and enjoy using it. It gathers people who share same or similar ideas or interests. And we are doing things rather than just talking. This is an app that I feel really connects people. Worthy to give it a try and you can attend all sort events.

Was having issues but it was my own stupidity lol. The support team are amazing! I was having an error come up every time I tried to login, which it turned out to be my own fault as I had my mobile data turned off after a complete reset was done on my phone. App works wonderfully and extra thanks to Mia

Make up review. Love this app, it gives you access to so many interesting clubs. The only thing I find annoying, is every now and again you have to sign in on your phone. I would think once it recognises a device that you are using it could be programmed to remember that as a safe device. Also on my recent attempts to get help with not being able to sign it, I found it very frustrating as I seemed to go around in circles and had to fill in all the required information several times on the same site and even then wasn't confident it was successful. Once I was contacted by your representative I found the service worked smoothly. But the most frustrating is the first issue I've mentioned.

Hobart Property Investors. I had a great night at my first meetup last week. The speaker was very interesting and shared a list of ways to make sure I am creating an investment portfolio which ticks all my boxes. I learned a lot from the social chat at the end as well as getting to know some leaders in the property industry who I can work with when the time comes for is to build or invest. Looking forward to the next one!

Problem with notifications. The app works fine and is generally easy to navigate however a really annoying problem is that when you clear notifications and then close the app, the little red notification icon stays on the app with X number when it should reset and disappear

Waiting so long for such an app.. I've been a meetup organizer for over 10 years now, and was waiting for such an app for a while. When we finally got one, it didn't seem to work well and the app was cancelled. It came back later on with better features and I'm just loving it. Can access my meetups from my iPhone and iPad easily. I just hope they make every feature that can be used from a pc available from the app too.

Connecting with other people is great for your mental health.. In this present time it is really easy to stay at home and watch the many shows that are available on free and pay TV, or bury your head in an iPad or phone. Meetup is a great way to get out and be sociable with like-minded people who also want to get out and meet people. I always leave a meetup feeling energized and happy! I always look forward to the next event.

App bugs. The app doesn’t work consistently same for everyone. All of a sudden I’m no longer able to view who’s on waitlist for events. It just won’t load. I cant even see where I sit if I’m placed on waitlist. I’ve tried reinstalling and looking for app updates. Nothing works to rectify and no one answers back feedback. Very annoying.

EPICNESS!. Met tons of new ppl here. I have had so much fun linking up on meet up.

Does not respect push notification settings.. If you have push notifications turned off, Meetup will still send you all sorts of notifications. This app does not respect your time or attention.

Pretty nice. The 2 meet up events I attended were fun and I really enjoyed myself, only I did not understand how to stay in touch with the people I had met and so I am kind of disapointed. I guess, I will get a hold of it eventually. I recommend for connecting with people.

They want me to pay to post-nope!. Too high a price post events

Too many malfunctions. Did the developers really try using your log in and forget password function? Having clicked the "reset password" button so many times, it didn't let me through without showing even one single message on why it was so. I had to wildly guess if there was something wrong with my new password or if it was a bug on this reset password page in general. After multiple times of trying, I managed to change the password. The new credentials did not work on the platform. I am sure I was on the log in page, not the sign up page. A pop-up window kept saying "oops, your email has been registered..." blah blah blah. This app sucks.

Meetup. Meetup events are a wonderful way to continuing to do the activities you enjoy. Whether you are single or coupled it’s a meeting place for like minded people. For example walking alone in some area is often not safe: join a walking group! Network or enjoy a meal with others, ski, kayak you choose or start a group.

limited. The app has potential …its design and interface need an upgrade. It is still functional and does its job….it would do it better with an upgrade.

Meetup Hiking Group. I’m a member of Meetup since 2015, the reason I joined is because I don’t want to walk the trail by my self. I meet a lot of people whom have the same goals and interests as me and we enjoy everyone’s company very much. The leaders of the hike I join are usually very organized and professional especially Mocwa hosted by Jack. He’s quite knowledgeable and explains things along the trail in a detailed way. I want to thank the person created the Meetup group so I don’t have to be alone walking the trail. 👍

Très belle méditation !. Merci beaucoup , j’ai beaucoup apprécié!

Late messages on email. O received a late invite in email and when I twceivwd a “reminder” I tried to book for the activity it was already full and I was on the waiting list. The first email inviting for the activity didn’t get it

Super slow all time. It’s been a year or even longer that your app is super slow to load open pages etc I don’t know if it’s cost reduction of infrastructure but the experience is horrible

MeetUp App. …has always worked well for me…

I wanna be out there. Sometimes I forget how good it is to just get out there and do things. Working from home has really made my world smaller. Meet ups gives me an opportunity to do things my small group of friends doesn’t do or we can’t commit. I love being able to make plans and meet new people.

Horrible app. Like I just mentioned in my feedback to the Meetup developers: This app appears to have been designed in a hell chamber for the service and protection of Satan. Your developers should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for designing this horrible app.

Misleading. I signed up to be an organizer for $70, was then billed for $111, then none of the events I created got a single response.

There is s new ‘ANTI VAXXER GROUP’ !???????. Seriously???? Thank you Mary Rhodes

Won’t let me cancel my subscription. Won’t let me cancel my subscription

Great App. Perfect app to connect with like minded people.

Nothing relevant to do. There’s just nothing relevant to do… feels abandoned

Excellent community. Meetup has proven to be a great way way to meet likeminded people and to build relationships

Toooo many notifications and emails!. Wow this app had such promise. There’s so much to do! Wait! Here’s ten more things to do! Here’s fifty notifications a day! Isn’t this great? Here’s some emails to remind you about the notifications. Nah I’d much rather use Facebook for what this app offers. One extra star for looking nice.

A lot of app issues. Keeps login me out Can’t log back in Did delete & reinstall on iOS

Can’t call for support. It’s frustrating that you cannot call or email for support. All you are given are articles to read that are not related to your issue. There should be a line to call especially when it comes to account payments.

meetup. very good app

You can never leave. They will never leave you alone. Never give this app your email. I’ve unsubscribed at least 2 dozen times. They keep sending me emails . Bordering on harassment.

So difficult to work with. This application is not user friendly at all. Example - in your YouTube link for your group , the link contained must have the word watch in it to be valid. So if you are posting a link for shorts then it won’t accept it as valid. I wanted to cancel the subscription twice but I have screenshots where it won’t let me and throw an error message and no chat super Please pay your QA guys. I have so many complains but I guess

Suggestion popups are starting to get in the way. I have used Meetup for years, but I was repeatedly opening and closing the app three times in a row to get rid of popup suggestions to get Meetup plus, start a new group, and participate in some kind of contest. They all had that tiny X button and giant “sign me up” button and I didn’t want to play an impromptu Action video game trying to peck the little X when I don’t know the consequences of missing that small touch point. After going through the popups, the most prominent thing was some more AI suggestions rather than my groups. After that, I got the popup to review the app which I am doing now. It would be a lot less intrusive if the app could be like before where you can get in, check your groups, and close it in less than 5 seconds. As for suggestions, have them in an area so I can check out the new features and similar on my terms, rather than the app preventing me until I see them. For example, LinkedIn at least puts the suggestions off in an area in the messages, and you need a button click to see them rather than the UI blocking pop up.

The app is dead. 😂😂😂😭😭😂

No Apple Pay. Doesn’t support Apple Pay, PayPal powered payments only which is frequently broken.

Notifications stopped. All notifications (including emails) just stopped coming for no apparent reason. I have deleted app and re- downloaded but nothing helps. Asked for help from app support but know response. It would help if there was some other way to reach Meetup for help.

It’s not free...... You think you are going to connect with moms/teachers/loners but you have to pay first.......

Awful support and terrible rollouts of updates. It seems like meetup does little testing when they do updates to their apps or web site. Key features suddenly disappear. This most recent time when I contacted support to tell them about a feature they disappeared from the apps, they told me to request it as a new feature. This makes no sense! It is not a nice to have feature. It is something that clearly must be functional. I feel like the people working in support have no idea how the app or platform work. It's so frustrating to use Meetup for my group.

Nice app. Would love an iPad version. A decent app for setting up, attending and following events. Would like to see an iPad version so that sharing and viewing photos is much easier. And they’ve now added granular notification options per group.

Doesn't send notifications of events registered. Sends me lots of notifications i don't care about groups i have not joined.

Really helpful for whom want to make friends. A lot of useful events and activities and people on these app are friendly.

Terrible app. This app is constantly kicking you out or not letting you in. Always saying something went wrong, doesn’t give any feedback. I have been a member for many years and I tell you just before COVID this app and all its updates have been a nightmare to use.

Doesn’t always work.. The more the app gets “updated”, the more it freezes, gives an error message, or takes forever to load.

Great app!. Easy to use.

Impossible to unsubscribe. I have unsubscribed dozens of times, and they are still bombarding me with ads.

Gets worse every update.. Meetup has been charging organizers higher and higher fees while stripping functionality from their apps (like taking attendance). The company won’t let us suspend our subscriptions when we can’t safely run meetups due to COVID-19, and the only alternative is to delete the group. This app and the lack of support it gets makes it clear Meetup doesn’t care about its users. Done with this app and Meetup as a whole.

Aweful. As an organizer, why are we charged monthly fee and have to watch adds yet we end up usjng desktop version to post an event, in 12 months they did not change any features that do not work on the app

A useful app, but lacking in execution.. The app is frustrating. As an organizer, reaching people is a constant struggle. It's plagued by errors, sluggish updates, confusing navigation, and buried tools.

Couldn’t join again. My connection was cut off and unfortunately I couldn’t join again. I have received a message that this group is locked and you can’t join again I think it’s a bug and it’s wrong.

Great idea but worst IT department, both the Web and iOS.. Great idea but worst IT department, both the Web and iOS. I don’t think they know UI at all, a 50k app can do better UX that this.

Bad. Insists on having full access to the Calendar when add-only should be sufficient. Why? Search never really worked. You can input the exact name of a local meetup and it still can’t find it. Annoying.

Absolutely terrible glitchy app. I am also an organizer and have nothing but problems with this app and the organizer app. The app closes unexpectedly all the time. It’s super glitchy and does weird stuff. The fact that Meetup collects dues from organizers and this app is still garbage is absolutely astounding. Why charge organizers when the app is unreliable and a piece of garbage. Glad the money is going to support the platform. Not.

Spammer!. Spams your notifications and you have no control over it. There are options to seemingly control the push notifications but they don’t do anything

Socially irresponsible. With the current pandemic and Canada shutting down even national parks to stem the gathering of people (sadly some people require enforcement and will not isolate on their own) I feel if is irresponsible for the meetup app to not be temporarily shut down for a couple months. There are people still posting events!

Mediocre at best. The app lacks a lot of functionality that make it a lack lustre experience. 1. Life stages is limited to a handful of stages but it lacks the ability to add your own or have more selection. My life stage is not on the list and therefore cannot complete it. Therefore my profile is in a state of not being completed. I am not retiring, new parent, new career, new graduate, empty nester, student, new in town. 2. It is very hard to find a group to join and you ended up having to scroll through lists of groups that are hundreds of kms away. 3. A more simplified app would be significantly easier to use. They are trying too much and that makes the experience not enjoyable. I saw this swip right or left feature (like dating apps) and I swiped right on one activity. Where did it go? I don’t know! So I cannot participate at it because the app did not track it. Or it is so complicated to find, that I gave up. It should be in the I am attending section. Given the absolute oversights of this app, I cannot trust that $90 a year will provide me the quality I would expect from an app that claims to help make new friends.

This is the best access to the best people you would have never met. Having access to speakers and purpose filled group leaders without the expense of meals and drinks and venues, or pressure of being “ready” on time has been brilliant in my life. In 8 days I met more interesting people on topics of great interest to me, inspiring, reinvigorating. Also the group sizes feel so much more easily navigated in virtual because I am sitting relaxed and have one variable to control. Mute!! Suddenly meet up has opened up for me and entirely new world of pearls. Otherwise, I basically live in protective quarantine for compromised immune system and I’ve not held onto immunity antibodies. I’m also an introvert and social anxiety but hunger for intellectual conversation, or new learning. I have all of that and am being reintroduced to socialization. It’s not that scary!!

Get connected with local events. Meetup is great for local businesses and groups who use the app. It’s fairly easy to join a group, to get notified of upcoming events, and fortunately most, if not all, lead persons are understanding when you can’t attend an event. Response from lead persons has been quick, professional, and helpful/understanding. I work quite a bit and love that I can look on the app for upcoming events/gatherings for a wide range of interests to attend. I was also able to select preferred areas of interests to be notified about, so basically customized for my interests. I also appreciate that I get emails/invites about upcoming events, especially since I get so busy I forget to check the app regularly. I just wish more local groups used this app because I have to look on Facebook for other events that don’t use the app.

Disappointed, no connections. I’m in a city (college town) of 121,000+ people, but I haven’t found a group that fits. It would be extremely difficult and probably fall to they wayside if I started a group because I have chronic health conditions. Once in awhile I’d like to meet with some folks and be a person. I’ve not made any acquaintances since I moved 7 months ago, but I don’t think it’s that unusual. People who already have connections stick to them. I’m not a programmer, and I’m not the night on the town with a group of business professionals. I’m interesting in a drawing group, but it meets in a religious center and I’d prefer not to be pushed into someone’s’ organized religion- that’s one reason I am on this instead of joining a religious group. I’m not a writer, though I probably should explore it. I’m not into most of the things that are listed. Obviously, outdoor adventures are out. I guess some of us are destined to be ‘lone wolves.’

Connects you w Life, for Free!. This app has no ads. (That Ive seen). It allows you to connect with similar people who have interests to yours, and find events or things to do based on your preferences. Its NOT for dating (unless you look for it). It sends you reminders for things to do, local, that you’d maybe enjoy. Some are free, some not. You can add that preference too. You can message people to ask details, send payments, whatever. Im a single woman in my late 30s, no kids, and I have a shortage of friends to do things with. This app is great, keeps me moving and feeling like the world isn't just zooming by when I get home, am tired from work, and have no ideas to do with life but veg. I really appreciate this app. Its got me out of my ‘me only’ zone on many a week night.

Meetup is wonderful, but …. Meetup is wonderful, but … At a minimum, the user should be able to enter the exact words and letters of the meetup name, to go to the meetup. Better, would be to enter a few search words and find it. At present, if you see a meetup and want to go back to it later, you had better get the web link or you’re probably out of luck. There is no convenient way to reach Support. Support has a meeting about once a week, and if you can’t attend, you’re out of luck. Or if you attend but can’t get your question in before the end of the meeting, you’re out of luck. And Meetup on Discord, used as a kind of user forum for organizers, was so hard to become a part of, I gave up; and I was never really sure if it was for some organizers, but not others. How about just a simple, live chat to start off with? (Not - I repeat, NOT - a bot chat.) Sometime after I had started my own group, I realized that under settings > privacy > contacts, I had to select “ members of your group” for my Meetup members to even communicate with me! I can’t emphasize these Search and Support issues enough. Meetup has been around far too long for this to be OK.

Perfect for my needs. Considering that I'm new to big-city life and that I'm alone with no family or friends in my new home state, Meetup has been an outstanding service to me. I've met so many incredible people, so far, and I've only had an account for one week! I'm very introverted, as well. So, introducing myself to novel situations isn't easy for me, but Meetup groups, from my experience, are made up of people that are involved strictly for the social interaction. So, at this point, anyway, there doesn't appear to be any individuals present with aggressive or condescending qualities. Perhaps I've just been fortunate in choosing the events that I've attended, but everyone had been very kind and approachable.

Godsend. Moving to New Haven from Westport ct, living with my animal tribe, having experienced a trio of major life events simultaneously, I didn’t even want to leave the house! That’s where MeetUp saved me from total isolation by finding groups in which I found other creatives in this area. Kindred spirits so to speak, totally opposite of what the Fairfield county (where I have lived and worked since 13 years old) attitude has evolved into. The McMansion, conspicuous consumption generation suppressing the original creative, uniqueness that lauded and had arms held wide for the creative personalities! I can’t say enough how happy to be back in new haven where people are less Trump like in acceptance of other cultures! And I’ve really been healing participating in various MeetUp groups! MeetUp is truly and literally a lifesaver!

stop the spam. The obnoxious amount of spams every time I say yes to a group activity or join a group and there are at least five spams is ridiculous. UPDATE. I did the review after the developer spammed me an email asking me to rate it. After I submitted the review, I get another email saying, we could fix that but we don't have your account info. Oh come on, you are able to inundate me with advertisements, but don't know my info. Funny, you knew it enough to sell it. UPDATE 2: now I received an email telling me I can stop the spam the editing my email settings but that doesn't fix the issue of every time you RSVP or join a group you get pop ups on your phone saying you qualified for this and you qualified for that and you can get this discount and that discount from multiple third-party advertisers. they should probably just leave well enough alone at this point and stop messaging me if they're not going to actually address reality

Easy to use, once you figure out how to set up. Help section offers ZERO help with profile set up questions, including group selection ( request to join). Very frustrating to figure out on my own by trial and error. HINTS: 1) prior to creating a sign in, have a face visible low res photo ready to upload into your profile. 2) Select your groups of interest BEFORE you finish profile setup so that group location is visible as part of your group selection criteria. You will not get a second chance to make this kind of easy multiple groups selection. After account setup you can only ask to join a group by clicking on a scheduled group activity and then asking to join if interested. The activities or group names don’t always say upfront where the group is located.

Interesting!. Recently found Meet up. While looking for ways to meet people and hopefully make friends. I have a tough time finding people with familiar interests. The more I dig into the app the more surprising the groups and certain interest I didn’t expect to see. There are so many possibilities. Interest in quantum physics, video game nerds, music, and just getting together to meet and have fun. I haven’t been able to go to any groups yet! But November seems to be a good start. I spend most of my time with headphones on and doing everything from car restoration to airbrush pieces and many types and styles of art, in general. I’m constantly looking for stimulation in learning. Right now I’m spending a lot of free time reading and questioning physics, especially Quantum physics! Anyways, I think this is a good place to start. I am hoping for a lot of interaction and conversations with Meetups. Thanks Joshua

Meetup is Great; IPad App Needs Work. A newbie to Meetup here, and I really like it the concept. The IPad app has some cool features but needs some work. -It is easier to find groups on the website than the app. I’ve searched the app for specific groups that I know exist and couldn’t find them. I then checked via the website, and I could find and add them. - There’s no functionality to update your interests via the IPad app; one must delete the app then log on via the website (or log to the website from another device. If you try logging onto the website from your IPad when you have the app on the same IPad, it will automatically kick you to the app. Even if what you want to do can’t be done on the app. Annoying. - The app appears in portrait only; it does not rotate to landscape. That’s really annoying if you are jumping between apps or using a keyboard on your IPad. The nice features are that the app lists all upcoming events for all your groups by date or can show just the ones you have signed up for. The app also makes it easy to navigate between events and groups. If the above areas for work were addressed, I would give the app a 4 or 5 (depending on the appearance). I have not had the app lock up or freeze. All the app’s functionality have worked great and it’s very dependable.

Great but Glitchy. I fell in love with Meetup when we moved from FL to CA. Meetup wasn’t really a thing in FL but was big in CA. Met awesome people thru the different groups on Meetup. Then we return to FL and Meetup was slowly becoming bigger. Still meeting awesome people thru events on Meetup.... but the app is glitchy. I never got notified that comments were being made on my events until an hour later... that sorta got fixed with one of the last updates. Also copying/duplicating events it would always change the time even tho I would want everything the same as last time.... NOW I can’t even upload my pictures to events! Earlier in the week at an event I took a picture, needed to upload it (a pic of our meeting location) and when I brought up my camera roll it didn’t have any recent pictures on it! It only selected pictures at random to show me, not anything recent 🤷‍♀️ VERY FRUSTRATING 😡

You literally saved my life. There was a time not long ago when I had no idea what I was going to do with my free time. My situation has changed so dramatically that I was left with plenty of free time, almost doing nothing. A friend of mine suggested that I look for something to do with my free time, so I looked into volunteering at places like food bank, and a couple other places. I didn’t really have a strong desire to do that as much as my strongest desire was being around like-minded people on a regular basis. Meetup has provided me with that opportunity. I am having so much fun with this, and just meeting other people’s been so satisfying to me. I am looking forward to getting very involved with this community based forum.

I guess I give up. I’m sad that I can’t even create an account. first issue was my photo. I tried 4 different ones, no filter, no text, no stickers or editing of any kind and the photo kept being rejected for having “text” on it... finally after trying again and again, it accepted a photo that had previously been rejected 5 times. I put all my info in, the “Next” button remained greyed out. I backed out to reload the page, didn’t help. completely closed the app and did the whole process all over again, same issue. kept closing the app, remaking the profile until FINALLY I got an active “Next” button.. I clicked it, and the app CRASHED 😐 wasted 30 minutes of my life and I’m just disappointed because I really wanted to use this app, and also disappointed that this seems to be an ongoing problem for quite some time according to other reviews and devs haven’t fixed it yet.

Our Community. It is important to allow other disability people participate any Meetup Group. Everyone is different but nothing stopped me to enjoyed the Great Meetup Group. Not all hearing people do not have patience when it comes to be Deaf and not to hear beautiful voice or sitting here waiting on someone to come to the welcome the deaf or disability clients or friends. Communication is the Key to feel welcome to a new members. I absolutely love the Meetup Group. I have extremely busy with my schedules not only if I have free time. I am profound Deaf Actress , Advicate, ASzl Sign Languages z tutor and I enjoyed meeting new people. Not easy to hear voice but able to read lip and it takes time to meet and communicate each other. Thank you Meetip Group!!

Great app with only one flaw — event reschedules. If an event is created, and members signup and get a confirming their attendance email then for some reason the event sponsors must change the date or time of the event all the members are moved to the new date and time appears without a request to confirm they can still attend at the new date time, further no email notice of that change. Some sponsors cancel event and create new one ... that is unfair to those who have committed to the first event if there is limited attendance allowed. It is suggested that when a event is rescheduled a mandatory confirmation must be processed within ie 7 days to hold their reservation. Also there is no process if a user says post to my calendar to remove for cancellation or move for reschedules

Tech. I would like it a lot more if the technology worked. I maintain our database and post our monthly land events. The site does not work properly OFTEN and it cost ma a LOT of time! My descriptions in my draft post regularly disappear as I am working on them. Our events can get complex and I typically I do not do the whole event in even 2 tries. I have to save and go back. But because the site doesn’t work, I have to create a word document to copy my description from so I don’t loose it. And I was getting stats on our membership the past couple of weeks and needed to do intense search on membership. It would not do a name search often and would tell me people are not there who are members who are there. My only option was to scroll through everyone to get to them … what a pain that was‼️

Don’t try to cancel!. I opened up a meetup group in New Zealand a few years ago, but a debilitating injury forced me to be unable to create and attend the intended group activities.....so I left it dormant and on autopay for a couple of years in hopes of someday being able to restart group activities. In December 2020 I tried to cancel my account, creating a “ticket” because I couldn’t CONFIRM the cancellation. Today I got billed on Autopay again and tried to find a customer service number, email, etc., to get this corrected. You will NOT find this online as far as I can tell... I went through the SAME account cancellation menu as I did in December, but I’m now unsure of whether they will just bill me again in another six months. They make it easy to start a Meetup group, but I feel like I’m being held hostage to get out!! I’m VERY, VERY disappointed in a company that can otherwise be so beneficial to a community.....WHY do they have to be this way? It makes NO sense!!

Used to be great, now just sales. Meetup used to be fantastic years ago. Now it’s just a marketing platform where everyone is trying to skim $5-$500 out of you. There’s no moderating on the meetup app to close down abandoned groups so it’s full of useless nonsense that hasn’t been updated in 5 yrs. No wonder nobody is utilizing it anymore. Meetups shouldn’t be able to charge people, the entire point was to bring people together, not sell them on more nonsense. If I wanted useless ads I would go to other social media sites. I want to MEET UP, not pay another someone for another something. Shouldn’t be allowed, period, as it’s run off everyone who was genuinely using it. Also meetup needs to delete old accounts or make a level where they’re still there but don’t show up in immediate search results. (Like Click to see groups who haven’t met up in a while, or Filter for meetups active in the last 12 mo/6 mo/1 mo etc.). Such a bummer, I used to really enjoy this app

So far so good. Nice job on the app. Keep it up. Pricing will do you in. It is a steep all things considered. Cut your price in half and you’ll see your income and profits triple. You make the same mistakes several industries before you have made. From the bookstores who would only sell a hard cover to make more money before releasing a paperback to the music industry who would obligate its artist to come up with 8 to 10 songs to release a CD and charge a premium where only one or two songs were any good, to the movie theaters overcharging for snacks. Look at where they are all at now. Greed is a deep grave that only digs itself deeper. Quote me on that because I said it first. Michael Pace

Glitchy App and Terrible Support. App: My original review was deleted despite being completely valid. The app is very glitchy and I usually end up using the website. The account creation page would loop be back to a homepage whenever I tried to input my info so I had to create and set up my account on the web. Login on the app works now that my account is set-up but now that it’s up and running, a lot of events have a very small attendance limit for things that are outdoors (i.e. nature hikes, dog walks, etc.). Support: I reached out to support to let them know about some of the app issues I’ve seen and provided all necessary information. A support individual repeatedly emails me asking for app information I have already provided to them. Don’t respond to reviews and ask customers to reach out if you don’t plan on escalating the issues! Very disappointed in both app and CX :(

After a decade this platform should have nailed it. I’ve been an organizer for almost as long as this platform has existed and seen others come and go as they charge various fees. Meetup is still lagging in basic functionality matters noted by many reviews, yet it’s raised it’s fees and made any upgrades inaccessible unless you pay even more to “go pro” Communicating with your members, handling RSVPs and uploading images should a seamless single click options. Not so here, even after years of contact asking that these basic items be attended to, and as someone who worked with images for years, I know how to meet the specs for photos and this platform’s system hasn’t been updated since it’s inception. These user-unfriendly issues are why so many of us have migrated to other venues and are using meetup less and less except for the simplest of basic announcements.

West Valley Jazzy Club. The band was excellent Moefavor the drinks were a little pricey the list of Appetizers were good choices to balance out the alcohol the 15 door coverage was a little bit too pricey I thought they should have Give light hors d’oeuvres for a $15 cover charge and $15 drinks. The ambience was nice and cozy low Lighting and A mixture of young and old but clearly jazz fans. The music was upbeat singing songs from the 70s to the 80s not too bad. The bartender Jesse was very very nice and inviting he made new customers feel welcome. all in all for a quiet night out it was relaxing. Great couples bar hide away Homie spot. plenty of parking definitely not a singles bar more of a quiet night out even a little space for dancing. Great place to bring your wife or girlfriend or just a date that you want to know and have privacy in a crowd.

OC Meditation Group. I have been exposed to many styles of meditation over the last 30 years and none compare to my experience the last two times I’ve attended this group. Daniel leads, what I describe as, a divinely guided meditation which allowed me to get back in touch with the REAL me and with purpose. That has been what I wanted all these years but was hit or miss with other meditations. This incredible experience is something I wish for everyone. I urge you to come try for yourself. You’re worth it and owe it to yourself. I brought my 19 year old along with me and he is anxious to get back for a third time. The energy is incredible in both of us. So grateful this group exists and it’s right here in Tustin. Wendy Knight

Great way to meet new friends. I just relocated to a new area with my boyfriend and sister, and this app really helped me and my little sister find fun things to do and people to do it with. I’ve been able to make a couple great new friends in the area with this app. There’s so many people on it in my area that it’s hard to imagine someone not being able to find something they like to do and people they get along with. I also know a lot of the people in the meetup groups looking to meet new friends are not new to the area, it’s really an easy way to organize events with people. We are having a lot of fun being able to do tons of things we never would have had the opportunity to otherwise.

Meetup app is user-friendly. Would like profiles for users.. The app is easy to use & very intuitive. I enjoy reading about Meetup events and connecting with other participants on the site. I wish there was a place to put a profile with some basic information-i.e. age, field of occupation, relationship status, & personal story (optional). Certain Meetup groups list your answers to some questions about what activities or interests you have or like, but no real profile of the individual. Also there isn’t a group for beginner investors & some other interests that I have in my area, but that isn’t the fault of the app. Individuals just need to express an interest, & perhaps someone will organize such a Meetup. In general, I find it easy to find all upcoming Meetup events on the app & RSVP for them.

Love but the app has glitches. I love the aspect of finding groups based off of interests/hobbies/beliefs and I’ve even found a couple of great gems where I was able to socialize with strangers and it felt natural. However, the app has been giving me a lot of issues like freezing or the event chat taking unreasonably long to load or sometimes it doesn’t even load at all, it crashes at times, especially if I go too quickly between different groups. Another thing I don’t like is having to sort through groups that have been inactive for years. I think there should be a way to filter out groups that have been inactive for X amount of time. I love the concept of meetup, I just thing the functionality of the app needs to improve

Best tool to meet any type of people. I have been using meetup since 2011. I used it when I move to a new state in the US and opened my real estate investing business. I have used this app to find investors, coaches, friends, etc. I moved to Spain a few weeks ago and through this app I already found a fighting team which now I am part of, also friends, investment groups, a fitness group that I am part of now, meditation, public speaking and Italian cooking (I am already attending to all these meetings and I have met lots of amazing people making my transition to Spain a lot easier). I love this app and I recommend it to everyone I meet when they move to a new place or when they are trying to expand their network, friends, or experiences.

First time using MeetUp. I just tried MeetUp for the first time this morning... I joined the Sports Basement Run Group that runs Taylor mountain for 60min every Wednesday at 7:30am. It was just me and the event host this morning and she was completely welcoming, friendly and encouraging that I go at my own pace as I need... same as in a larger group. I made it 4.2 miles... it was TOUGH up hill for me, but I feel so accomplished for me first run in the mountains. To be honest, I was nervous to join... new situation and all, but having pushed myself to get out there, it turned out to be a great experience that I want to continue. I can see how it’s an awesome way to meet people with common interests and goals, make new friends and find inspiration and encouragement.

THE way to plug into your community. Having moved around the country for the past 20 years with work, coming full circle back to my hometown, Meetup has been the very best way to find things to do and potential new friends to connect with. Even being back where I grew up, 20 years away has changed so much that it’s still been hugely helpful to plug into a community I really didn’t know any more. The app works well - search on things that interest you and scroll through the groups that match, tapping on each to read the synopsis of what they’re about and what kinds of activities to expect. If you integrate your email it’s a pretty seamless experience to be informed about and respond to upcoming activities for groups you join.

Good Luck Trying to Deactivate Your Account. There is no way to deactivate your account from the app itself or using the mobile version of the site. If you would like to deactivate your account, you have to use the desktop version. If you don’t have a desktop computer that means you have to look at the desktop version on mobile and try zooming in to figure out how to deactivate. Then, even if you are logged in on the desktop version of the site you will have to enter your password in order to deactivate, which if you had it saved somewhere or you were just logging in with Google seem to be impossible so you just have to change your password just to deactivate your account. I honestly would’ve given this app four stars because I enjoyed using it while it lasted but the process of getting my account deactivated was so frustrating that they get a one star rating from me. This can’t be that difficult of a fix, come on Meetup get it together!

Never sit home alone - unless you are exhausted!. There are so many opportunities from or participation in things you love to do as well as activities you would like to try. Depending on the population where you live - you may be required to travel to a bigger town - or you could start your own Meetup group. I belong to three different Meetups - one in Philadelphia, one in Columbus, and one in Boston - so I am never home alone even when I go for extended visits to see my family. Each area has a different set of activities that are not only for single people - there are many groups for moms of young children, homeschoolers, fine dining with or without a partner, hiking, travel, movies, book writing - even groups to learn to speak or practice speaking a foreign language or to play an instrument! Check it out yourself!

Well Established. I like the meetup app very much! I never thought there would be an app for such a vast selection of groups. I have joined several support groups including some that involve mental health *Not to be mistaken for treatment from doctors.. Although I still need a doctor outside of these groups, the fact i can locate groups of people with similar struggles in their life is great! I personally find it is different when you can talk to a non professional who can offer suggestions easier because of the fact they too carry a similar burden! I have also looked into some groups to keep physically active and although i have not joined or participated in them it is nice to see they have these options!! So thank you Meetup Team and keep up the good work!!

A little like being a kid again. I have been wanting for years to find a way like this to find people to play with. Thank goodness the app still works because all I get is “Application error..” on my MacBook Pro (Os High Sierra) with their website. No clue how to fix it. Shouldn’t a website just friggin’ work? A pain when attending online events as I don’t want to join zoom from my phone. I have to get the meeting number from the host and join directly through zoom without going to the website and clicking the link like before. Not enough space on my computer to update OS, and not enough money to buy a new computer just because meetup made their website too picky. Sigh. Anyway, good app, while it works.

Fabulous girlfriends. More than I expected, the ladies here in SA TX are wonderful, if you are looking for true, genuine heartfelt women than this is the group! We have so much fun and the events will keep you laughing for days. I’ve learned different games and have laughed for hours after, Oh let me not forget to mention the good food that comes with some of the events. I’m so happy I joined and let me just tell you the hostess are off the the chain with their kindness. They open up their homes and receive you like family. 😘😘😘😘🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. Pure kindness! If your looking for true friends and a group of women who I’ll be there for you think about joining Fabulous Girlfriends, But please don’t come with drama. Just saying! I love these ladies and thank them for for loving me.

you deleted my profile on January 1st for the last time. if you’re looking for events near you, or a local events calendar, look elsewhere. app is a list of “online events” (mostly pyramid schemes and for profit niche adult education courses) with a handful of local events peppered in. you may find one of two new local groups on a compulsory search, but there is so little real, actual, local connective content on here; it’s simply a waste of time. look for a free local IRL (print and online) events newspaper. if your area doesn’t have a free local newspaper, there won’t be any local events on here for you to look for anyway. waste of time. total waste of time. also this app deleted my whole profile for the third year in a row on January 1st…. (when the software is that bad, sure lemme trust you guys with my contact info) I’m not making one yet again. I maybe hit up one event a year from this. local free newspaper is where it’s at.

A Must Have For Growing Groups!. Meetup has an intuitive, easy to learn interface that is a must-have for small, local groups. I was hesitant to pay for the service, but decided that trying it out for one month could not hurt anything. Only after signing up and having my group approved did I learn about the “Announcement” feature that Meetup provides. This feature alone makes Meetup the best service of its kind. Without the group announcement feature it would take me quite some time to find potential members. Instead, in less than a week I had a considerable membership base and have already set up our first group event which is currently at 80% capacity. I can’t praise Meetup enough and highly recommend it to other group organizers.

Love it but wish events didn’t disappear from interface. I love this app and meetups have been so so great! I’ve met so many cool people and it’s honestly the best way to break the ice around chatting with people you don’t know because everyone is in it to be social! But I wish events that were right about to happen that I’ve viewed the day before didn’t disappear from the main event page a few hours before they start. It’s confusing and I have to remember back to which group hosts the event and navigate directly to the host page to view the details and join the event if I hadn’t already joined. So I’m constantly screenshot ing while browsing before I choose which events to go to.

Meetup is great, app is a little buggy. Website is even more buggy. Sometimes looking at a message crashes the app. Other times clicking on a notification takes me somewhere that doesn’t make sense and I have to go off of memory to navigate there since the notification disappears. My biggest pet peeve is the sheer volume of notifications I get, it’s actually very stressful to get bombarded by them when trying to work. The app settings are way too complicated for notifications and don’t respect my choices anyways (e.g. I tried turning off all notifications in the app and it still sent me frivolous notifications). I am complaining a lot about this because notifications are sometimes needed to coordinate with folks when it comes to messaging.

Great way to meet people. I have never created an event but I have signed up for meet and I like the way it keeps everyone in the loop by sending you an email with any updates. The only thing is that as an organizer you take a chance in people not showing up, after they said they would. Not good if you have prepared food. The dynamics are a bit different from perhaps a gathering with friends and family. You are inviting complete strangers from all walks of life who may not realize the importance of letting you know that they're not coming after all. You can wind up with a lot of left over food. I've seen that happen. But I suppose you can always donate it.

Great way to find fun events and meet people. I’ve been using MeetUp for almost 2 Years now and it’s been great! I found it after moving to a new state where I didn’t know anyone and the people I’ve met through make up almost all the friends I hang out with at this point. Aside from meeting people, it’s also just a fun way to go do things. See a movie you’d like to see, join a group to see it. Interested in trying out a new thing like rock climbing, then just join a group for beginners. The sheer variety of groups you’ll find is awesome, with things ranging from indoor to outdoor activities and from social to professional gatherings. Whether you’re looking to meet new people or just find a new activity to take part in, I’d highly recommend checking out MeetUp!

Messages are glitchy at best. I have an IPhone 12 and the messages on the app are horrible. Restarting the app several times doesn’t always work. It’ll tell you there’s a message for you but you can’t get it to refresh so you can see it. The Event Chat messages are worse. I still supposedly have 2 messages in my Chat that I’ve never been able to read because they won’t scroll down enough for me to see them. It gets “stuck”. I do like the app but take my advice and get someone’s phone number if you want to actually talk to people when you’re trying to get to a specific event and can’t find someone. I’ve had to bail on multiple events because I couldn’t find the people or group and couldn’t use the messages on the app effectively.

Warning!! don’t pay for membership!!. After purchasing i received an email from meetup stating that my subscription was not approved because Meetup does not support groups whose sole purpose is to sell or market goods, services, events, or event spaces. Really??? How many events have I seen on meetup that requires some form of payment. But what’s worst is that I’m offering free access to multiple events and I’m not approved. Wouldn’t be a big deal if you want to approve who you want on your app and then choose by whatever guidelines you decide but the fact that you charge me first before approval and then tell me I have to go get a refund from iTunes is ridiculous. Try doing your screening process first and then charging after your approval process. I have used meetup for a few years now to find local events when I travel and have even come across events that I had to pay for but hey why complain. I’m totally turned off will be deleting and updating this review when I find a better option to this app✌🏽

Great for events terrible app tech. Great app for events and make events. The cost is a little much but it’s free to use for finding events. If something happens like a message that says contact meetup support for one you don’t get an explanation and for another the organization to find tech support in the app is terrible. The main downside is the support team and organization to find tech support in the app. There is no way to reach out for questions. Like I recently got charged for my membership and it’s still saying your membership has expired but there’s no email or contact information to reach out. It’s basically if you want to keep it you have to go to your bank and dispute then retry. They don’t help with technology issues on this app here at all.

Powerful, Entertaining, Inspiring. I started using this site when I arrived in a new city as a middle aged professional with few personal connections to my new home. I walked up to the first Meetup group simultaneously deeply hesitant but desperately in need of good conversation. I looked around and saw a group of people in a similar situation. They were looking for connections too. The 2020 effect has evolved the notion of community, we’ve all become more virtual and in addition to my local group I have a few new groups that I join from across the country. I’m able to pick meetings based on the topic I want to discuss. It’s a radical new evolution and an incredible tool for engaging with others to discuss the subjects that interest you.

Pleasantly surprised!. This app is a legit way to meet new people who have similar interests. I expected it to be more like a dating app in disguise- but it’s not!!! I moved to a different state, was finishing up a two year long divorce and found myself at home alone a lot. This app was mentioned to me by someone who I shared that I was feeling sort of isolated- so I checked it out. I wish I’d done it sooner! Even during this horrible time- we had a happy hour zoom get together last night! And it was exactly what we all needed. It’s a wonderful way to connect with people and there is without question a group you will find here where you’ll fit in even if you worry you won’t. So great.

Good way to meet folks but app is clunky. I’ve met many new friends and had fun with several Meetup group events. For that purpose, the Meetup app is great and met that goal. The problem with the app is its clunky way to communicate with others. Group messages with select group members is not available. Therefore, single messages need to be sent to a set of group members. Pictures can be loaded but not videos. Videos help improve communication about how much fun was had at an event. When users do send messages, users are not sent a Meetup notification to their phone. As a result, days and weeks can go by before that message is read. A user just texted me to ask me about how to change her email address on Meetup. Maybe I’m wrong, but I do not see how to do that in my profile. If these key functions were added, the Meetup app would be vastly improved.

Meetup Over the Years. My husband and I have moved a lot over the years. My first big move was devastating. I moved away from the family and friends I’d had for over 20 years. I couldn’t make friends because I didn’t work with anyone my age and the church we went to had older attendees as well. When we moved again I decided I was going to take action. I joined Meetup and joined a hiking group, an art group, and eventually a moms group. All have been fantastic groups. I’ve made lots of friends in my moms group because I’ve been a part of that one for 8 years now. It takes time to make friends, but sharing in an activity of mutual enjoyment makes the friendship even sweeter. Meetup has literally changed my life. What other website/app can I attribute that to? Not many. Thanks Meetup!

Great app for meeting people in a new place.. I've moved twice in the past two years and Meetup helped me a lot by finding people have common interests and in the same city. Back to 2017 when I just moved to LA, I had no friends and English wasn't good enough, through this app, I went hiking with people and did fun things together and made some friends. Now, I'm in San Francisco started my journey again, and I'm so in love with Meetup, I've been using it and meet new people making friends. The only problem for me is, everytime if I search any event and click an event info, once I hit the return button it brings me all the way to the top. I have to roll down to find the group or event if I want to find it again. This could be improved.

Great idea. Terrible execution.. Been running meetup groups for over a decade. What started as a unique platform for gathering people by interest has languished in a post-desktop world. The result is this shell of an app with so many bugs on the organizer side it’s hard to know where to even begin (inability to search venues outside your location, terrible notification system, drafts events that pooch new events). I’ve been on meetup focus groups, filed bug reports, and made suggestions on ways the product can better support organizers, with all falling on deaf ears. As far as I can tell meetup truly believes it’s just a glorified Eventbrite serving it’s customers that are consumers of the product versus the organizers who actually pay for it. In response to complaints from organizers about funding their groups in an ever-increasing annual fee model, meetup’s response is asking your users to “chip in” like we are some form of waitstaff that members want to tip for serving them up a great hot dog. How about just nixing the 10% fee for any amount charged for events on the platform since organizers are already paying ~$200/year for their groups? Somebody please just buy this company out from comatose WeWork, spend some real dollars on focus groups and mobile app dev, and get this product out of neutral that it’s been stuck in for the last 10 years.
