Crashes often. I love reading Newsweek on my iPad, especially with all the extra pictures and videos you get on the digital version. However Newsweek tends to crash quite often and if I will no longer have access to a paper copy of the magazine the digital version is going to have to run flawlessly. I'm not sure if this is a Newsstand app problem or a problem with the Newsweek magazine but I find it tends to crash at times especially when switching from portrait to landscape and back. I have an iPad 3rd generation running 6.0.1 and it is quite irritating to have to reopen the app every time and have to navigate back to the article I was reading because it crashed. Please fix this issue

Tried. I tried to sign up and it wouldn’t let me.

Bad app, bad customer service. Still a good read but overwhelmed by the app's shortcomings. 4 days gone by since new issue came out. Can't download. Signed out & tried to sign in & can't. Not the first time. E mailed customer service but they either will not respond or will take several days. Called customer service & they said tech support needed. They had several calls like mine but tech support enjoying the weekend off. Asked for refund of one issue & told tech support could only do that. Electronic delivery only & website not working? You would think a news organization might address it in a timely manner. If there is a breaking news story do your reporters take the weekend off? Too bad a once good product is been taken over by give a crap morons. No wonder 1.5 stares, it would be lower if reviewers could give zero.

Worst experience ever. Newsweek needs to figure out the technology so it will actually download the issues or go back to the print model. I pay for this and waste more time trying to get issues to download than it takes to read it. Also, the content covers fashion and art more than international news (except the French). I have subscribed since journalism class in college required it...two decades ago...and am not going to last much longer. the point of getting news is that we can download it and read it. Also, if you include pictures, they need to be expandable to a size the viewer can see. one inch cubes of famous paintings don't do anyone any justice.

No technical support offered, major issues. If you do not fully load an issue, the app will not allow you to resume the download. Although there is a button for this, the app will ask you to restart the app or just crash itself for you, neither of which fixes the problem. So I have issues that I have paid for but cannot access. I e-mailed the customer service department to tell them of this bug and they sent me a form e-mail that did not correspond at all to the issue I raised. They did not respond to subsequent inquiries. For a now all-online publication to 1) have this big if a technical issue and 2) apparently not care to fix it or address technical problems is kind of ridiculous. Especially after migrating existing customers to a half-working platform.

app has less features. On their web users can leave comments and search news. Not with the app

They don't get it. I guess the print media really still does not understand the digital age and may be doomed to obsolescence. I like Newsweek, so I downloaded the app. I made the in-app purchase of a full year subscription and it made it disappear from the choices. But I did not get the subscription, my credit card does not show the purchase, the App Store does not show the purchase, the Newsstand does not show it, Newsweek tells me to contact iTunes to fix it, and I am pretty disgusted with the whole affair. I guess I am now stuck with a dysfunctional Newsweek app, and no help. Don't waste your time. Just buy the printed version until they are forced to shut down. Maybe they'll get it then and make things work right. Better yet, maybe they'll even learn to support their readers.

New update has big problems.. My Newsweek app was just updated and has major problems. On my full sized iPad it does work but downloads each page separately (instead of downloading the entire magazine at once like it used to). So you have to wait for one page to very slowly download and when you go to the next page you have to wait again for it to very slowly download. Very painful to try and read taking much longer than before to read the entire magazine. On my iPad mini, it doesn’t even get to the main library. It just gets a spinning wheel saving that Newsweek is updating. Net result is it only works at all on 1/2 of my devices and way too slow to tolerate. Unfortunately I just renewed through iTunes and unless this gets fixed I won’t renew. Best that can be done would be given a choice to revert back to the last version that actually worked.

Access. As a subscriber I should be able to access Newsweek on the Apple+ platform without having to pay again. Also I think some of the articles on Apple+ do not appear on the app.

Problem. Nothing but trouble most of this last year. I am never recognized as a subscriber any more. thanks

Much better but still room for improvement. The fact that they added Newsweek Now for free and 12 week subscriptions for $9.99 alone make it worth your trouble to download the app. That being said there is absolutely no innovation on the Magazine side. Its basically a PDF scan of the magazine. There is only pinch to zoom and the graphics and pictures look terrible zoomed in. I hope they continue to improve the magazine and provide some more features. I got the 12 week and subscription for $9.99 which is a pretty good deal even though I think you can get the print edition for a whole year for something like $20. I don't plan on renewing unless they add some features in the next 12 weeks.

Finally a magazine you can subscribe to!. Of all the news and magazine apps out there this one finds a great balance between the frequent updating of a website and the editorial flow of a magazine. You can customize the homepage. Which is updated as frequently as the website The galleries look awesome. And I can finally buy a subscription to the digital edition. Five things that I think could be improved: - Video, Newsweek has great video and they completely ignore it in all their mobile apps. - Push notifications for when a new magazine issue is available for download would be very useful. - a save for later feature - a more interactive magazine experience like wired or esquire. - a way for me to use my print subscription for digital copies This update is leaps and bounds ahead of v1. I'm glad Newsweek finally decided to take their tablet app more seriously.

App crashes constantly. Good content but app crashes constantly

Horrible!!!!. Do not subscribe to Newsweek! I paid for a full year of the print version, which is gone, and then followed the messy instructions to access the app version. I was able to download one (old) magazine, which crashed three times. When I try to read the latest edition it is prompting me to " buy" or " subscribe." Unlike other magazine apps, there is no contact or support to help. I subscribe to twelve other magazine apps and this is the only one that doesn't work. When you see the high quality of other apps that cost the same, or even less, it is inexcusable to put out such garbage. I agree with another reviewer who commented that the app version should have been perfected before the print version stopped. Does anyone know how to get a refund? I get Time for free at work so I guess I'll just read that instead. Too bad because I've subscribed to Newsweek for years.

FONT SIZE. Nice easy to use app. However, I cannot seem to find a way to change the size of the font. Please let me know how to do that. 5 stars if it can be done.

Awful update!. BEFORE (back when it was print also and they had just added retina): The latest release is awesome. Full retina support. The text is crystal clear now and the images are now done full justice. They didn't go half-way with the retina support as some others have. It all still works very well too as it had before. NOW: Terrible update that broke a basic tenant and deleted any and all previous issues you had without any warning! WTH! This is also why I generally dislike all cloud/online downloaded media that is protected because it always tends to suddenly disappear on you at some point and there goes everything you ever paid for! Simply a horrific update and to not even warn anyone beforehand.... Who the heck decided to waste time and money writing a new app that is one of the worst ones ever written when the one they already had had been among the best ever written? How can a struggling magazine afford to pay to have an app that did not need to be rewritten to be rewritten? And how can they dare risk releasing something utterly bugged and messed up and poor when they can't afford to lose a single subscriber? It looked better when it was styled as it had been she it was still a print magazine too, much better then.

App and service does not work. The connection between Newsweek and Apple is broken. The Newsweek app does not recognize my purchase yet they have a record of it when I call and talk to a rep. Newsweek points me to Apple who I called and they looked into it confirming they were sending the appropriate info to Newsweek regarding my subscription and even walked me through different scenarios to test the app. Apple's conclusion was that there was a problem with the new app sending me back to Newsweek for resolution. In addition, and like others that have posted, it erased all the past magazines I already downloaded when updating. This is ridiculous. I paid for a subscription, but can't use it. I have been a subscriber for years, this experience and lack of desire on Newsweek's part to resolve my issue leads to wanting a refund and choosing a competing publication.

Where’s the Balance. I thought Newsweek was a evenly balanced site but I’m finding it’s not. There are more left leaning pro-Biden articles than anything favoring Trump. How people could prefer Biden and his Socialist cronies and supporters makes me sick. This country isn’t perfect-no country is. But to destroy our time-honored traditions and institutions and thrust America into Socialism is absolute lunacy. That being said, I’m glad I’m not paying to read the articles on this site and will discontinue reading them as of now.

Cancellation. Someone, other than me, ended my 30 day free trial of Newsweek. I enjoy reading the magazine, and find its extensive coverage of many topics enjoyable.

Importance of Newsweek in 2022. Generally the news moves in waves. When the Ukraine invasion occurred, I relied on several sources for updates. As other events pushed input from the war into the background, I found Newsweek a quality source of ongoing vital news regarding that conflict that is reshaping our world.

It got worse-Update!. Newsweek: you have redeemed yourselves. The new version of the app is a vast improvement! Congratulations. I am back to reading every week thanks to my ability to easily access issues. What's more, this is an actual app as opposed to the previous PDF download. Thank you. Newsweek: you're losing me in so many different ways. I've been loyal for a long time (since I was a kid watching my dad read you) through your various editorial iterations, some good, some not so good. The current version is not so good, but I appreciate the effort to reinvent. Now it seems you are actively trying to prevent me from being a reader. I bought a year subscription, but your app never remembers that I'm a subscriber. Right now I don't even have the option of doing the stupid email reset. Please fix this mess of an app. There are so many other options out there that it's not worth it anymore to come to you.

Worst app ever. The last update was horrible this one is even worse. Only reason I updated was because the last update was so sluggish downloading - every time you resumed download, it would erase everything that had already been downloaded. The new update doesn't even allow you to sign on initially and when it does allow you to sign on, it doesn't recognize that you are already a subscriber - it keeps asking you to buy the issue for $4.99. When you call tech support the digital's tech-support isn't even available until 9 AM. Doesn't Newsweek test their new apps or upgrades before they offer them to subscribers? Quality control is nonexistent for software here at Newsweek. I have been a Newsweek subscriber for over 30 years and aside from some false sense of loyalty I'm not sure why I haven't already canceled my subscription -this is strike two on the app upgrades.

No control of font size. Does not allow increasing font size.

Unbelievably bad. This is the worst magazine app ever. As a Newsweek subscriber for twenty-five years, I have been disappointed at Newsweek's slide into a celebrity gossip rag over the last two years, but this digital implementation takes the descent lower still. It just doesn't work. Despite having downloaded the app, it's icon doesn't appear on the iPad (it's there if you type in a search for it). Once it does open, though, it doesn't offer any issues other than the free sample issues, and it won't even download those. When I go into my online account, it indicates that I have one, but then it asks me to subscribe. When I try to subscribe it says I already have an account. I have called the magazine's custom support, and have been assured at everything is hunky-dory, but still nothing works. The last Newsweek issue I received was the final print issue. It's hard to believe, given the fanfare surrounding Newsweek's shift to all-digital delivery, that they could have done such a poor job of implementing the change. Next step: getting my money back.

It's a winner. Ok this is my new review. The magazine in ipad format is great and the price is excellent. Only thing missing is web links live and ability to convert an article to pure text to make the print more legible without having to pinch and zoom. I think the FT does this well. Wall St Journal and TIME will now have to adjust their ridiculous pricing. My first review Nice looking app and definitely a fair price. BUT the free issue was a mistake. Why not give us a real issue to sample. The special issue doesn't give me a real sense of the final product. I will buy an issue because I want to encourage fair pricing of magazines but wish they had let me try a real one if only 15 pages or so. By the way making the free issue all Obama was a gutsy move by the publisher in this environment of political differences. For this reason alone I will by an issue. In fact if rehire were a subscription I'd take it. The three stars is only because I haven't tested the full product yet.

The only unbiased stories appear in the opinion stories.. Biased news from cover to cover. Every story is tainted with the radical liberal narrative. What a shame that balanced and unbiased news is now a thin of the past.

Nice but not great. The good: A nice interactive experience, includes some videos and audio, though not much. You tend to get richer media on a website. Navigation is easy to learn, seems similar to other magazines on iPad. Price is lower than print by quite a bit. The not so good: each issue is about 100MB. Considerings it's just text and pictures, I don't understand the size. Pics are not high Res. The bad: poor subscription management: I subscribed through the iPad, so clicking the subscriptions section doesn't recognize me. Apple knows I'm a subscriber but Newsweek doesn't. Also non-US print subscribers are Not recognized, so if you're staying abroad, you'll have to pay again. Not yet updated for the new iPad, so it looks very blurry, even the text! Which I really don't get, since they could have just used the iPad fonts. Whatever... Overall, it's not bad but definitely needs improvements to get there.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke!. Newsweek needs to get its act together. I have been a subscriber for at least 15 years. On top of that I also give Newsweek subscriptions as Christmas gifts. Apparently they destroyed the check last December and never bothered telling me that they did that. It is rather embarrassing when people call me and tell me that their subscription is no longer active. Calling Newsweek was no help whatsoever. The people who received my gift now have to go and subscribe thru ITunes and I will send them a check to reimburse them. Absolutely ridiculous! Regarding the app itself, the old app worked very well now the updated app is not anywhere near as user-friendly. I put it on another machine and got charged for an issue. I have always loved to read Newsweek but it is becoming way too much work. What a shame.

Hit the Road, Newsweek. The application requires the user to re-download issues every time the app is updated. Newsweek used to be a decent news magazine. However since bringing Niall Ferguson on board, readers have to put up with his pseudo-intellectual anti-President Obama blather. I don't understand Tina Brown's complicity in Ferguson's hateful attacks. Is Tina Brown insensitive to how egregiously offensive is the August 27, 2012 cover of Newsweek? When did it become acceptable to refer to the President of the United States by his first name? When did it become acceptable to be so informal with the President of the United States as to tell him to "Hit the Road"? Why is it that this President is not treated with the respect due him as our elected President? Why is it that the first Black President is not shown the same respect afforded all the White Presidents that preceded him? Newsweek owes our President an apology. I am disappointed and am canceling my subscription and deleting this app.

How did this get past testing?!. I’ve downloaded this app three separate times, and have had middling to no success getting it to load the issues. Forget the fact that the magazines are presented in a bland way that looks like somebody pasted the text into a scroll view and stuck an image up top— I can’t even get the app to reliably download my issues. For instance, the last time I downloaded the app, I tapped restore purchases. However, nothing happened, the latest issue still read “buy” instead of “download”. Figuring why the heck not, I tapped subscribe. An alert popped up informing me that I was already subscribed. Still however the app wanted me to buy the latest issue. Ridiculous. So I decided to see if I could wait out this problem. However, exiting the app, I found that it still had a new issue badge. With no way to download the latest issue, I couldn’t dismiss this badge. And with it there Newsstand would constantly have a new issue badge of it’s own, regardless of whether I had a new issue I could actually read. Disgusted, I deleted the app for the third and final time.

Buy or Subscribe? Where's the Read button?. I just received my print copy with instructions on registering for the digital version because the print version ceases publication on Jan 14th. Digital Registration went fine except for the minor difficulty of determining my account number from the mailing label. Installed iPad application without issues except for trying to figure out that I just needed to sign in rather than re-register within iPad app, sign in button doesn't stand out unless you know to look for it at top left of app. Now I'm wondering when my digital subscription becomes active so I can read the digital content which should have been communicated during digital registration.

Unable to access subscription. I just purchased the monthly subscription, but when I enter the app, it still asks me to purchase the single edition I want. When I try to "sign in," it gives an option for print subscription or an existing iPad subscription - - when I try to log in to the existing iPad subscription, it doesn't recognize my Apple iTunes email address. I've tried to create a new account, but that doesn't seem to work either. There are no other options other than to click "Done" to return to the same page where the whole cycle began. I hope that I'm able to get my money back because without being able to log in, I have no access to my account settings. What the heck, Newsweek?

What happened. I have had Newsweek functioning electronically since it stopped the print edition the first time. I suddenly wasn’t able to get any downloads, it couldn’t find the server. Support said to get the new app and try again. I did. I agree with Tomlo 222 who’s review I just read. The new app doesn’t work, it’s very slow, it loads every page. Not the kind of update I would expect and not the functionality that would keep me reading Newsweek after more than 30 years as a subscriber

Updated 2x per week usually. Why is the news usually 2-3 days old?

Disappointed and frustrated. This new app does not work for me. I have tried restarting my iPad, performing a forced restart and even deleting the app and downloading again. And yet I still cannot access any of the issues. Newsweek needs to fix this problem. Update: I have been using the Newsweek app update (6.0.1) for a few weeks. It still stinks. How can Newsweek say this is an update? It takes a long time for EACH page to load. In the past, an entire issue could be downloaded in the same amount of time it now takes to load one short article. I will not renew my subscription if this problem is not fixed. Another update: I downloaded the latest Newsweek app update (Version 7.0.0) and I must say that I believe you got it right this time. An entire issue can now be downloaded quickly. Thanks for correcting the previous horrible app.

This may save print journalism!. YES! I am thrilled Newsweek developed this App, and that they were smart enough to recognize that for digital to be successful the pricing model must change, something Time and the WSJ don't get. I hope they offer a yearly subscription format soon. I will be first in line. And for that, the price could match the print edition cost. That would be fair. Till then, I will purchase every issue for the fair price of 3 bucks. Great job, Newsweek!

Difficult to navigate. The user interface is terrible

It’s a scam to steal your money 💰. Don’t get this app or their services 🤬🤯😡someone sign up for a subscription in my name behind my back and now there’s no way to call them because there’s no toll free phone number for customer support service to call to get my money back so Aware that they are nothing but no good scammers 🤬😡😤

ok, but not great. My print subsription to Newsweek was expiring and I just got my iPad. The in-app subscription was slightly cheaper than renewing the printed version, so I went for it. It's basically a PDF of the printed copy of the magazine that's still arriving in my mailbox. The nice part is having it with me wherever I have some time to read. Also, absence of ads is nice. But reading multi-column articles on an iPad is ridiculous! Why not make single column text that you can scroll down until you're done with the article, then swipe to move to the next one? The most frustrating, inexplicable thing is the "extra insight" at the bottom of some pages: "Visit the 9/11 Memoraial website for...." is crying out to be a tap away, but is not clickable. To Newsweek: Please make the digital version more iPad friendly and interactive.

Newsweek for iPad. Friday, July 5: After being on hold a very long time, and then after a long conversation, the 'technical' department rep changed my password and told me that would fix everything. The new password would be the same on my account and in the app on my iPad. So when I tried to log in on my ipad, I still got 'authentication failed'. So after trying several times, I gave up. Monday, Jul 8: I just called Newsweek back again. Another long hold, and now they tell me that I need to delete the old app and download a new one. !! I wonder why they didn't tell me that the first time I called. Very cumbersome from the very beginning, even worse now, including setting up an account, subscribing, and then signing in to download issues. Even customer support is a major hassle. Newsweek, you need to test your processes and updates on your own staff in the field before release to subscribers. I think you also owe subscribers something for all the hassle. We just want to read the magazine, not spend all our time trying to sign in, download, call customer support, wait on hold, etc. I wonder if cancelling and getting a refund is also a problem.

Everybody needs to reset their password. To everybody who is saying that the latest update leaves them unable to sign in and access more issues, you need to check your email. A few days ago, there was an email from Newsweek with "The Refreshed Newsweek is Here" in the subject line. Part of the email reads "...in order to make this enhanced, multi-platform experience possible, we have to change the way we deliver Newsweek to you. And that means we need you to create a new password so that the new system recognizes you as an active subscriber (to protect your privacy, we cannot change your password for you)." I hope this helps some people!

Horrible tech support. Don't start a digital subscription w Newsweek! At least until they sort this out. After 1.5 yrs of digital subscription w minor issues, I encountered the problem tt most reviewers of this app encountered - the app won't recognize my subscription so I can't download new issues. What made matters worse was when I tried getting help from the Newsweek app support staff, they referred me to the iTunes support staff. Something about them (Newsweek) not having access to my iTunes account details and hence they cannot determine if I am a Newsweek subscriber. And iTunes staff reiterating that the issue is with the app developer, not them! I felt like a ping pong ball in a game. Back and forth we will email with me getting more exasperated and angry. In the end, iTunes/Apple support won my admiration for 1-being courteous the whole time, 2- emailing me to ask if there is still a problem and finally 3-partially refunding my subscription when they realize this situation is going nowhere. Newsweek support just stuck to their spiel (did the guy even read subsequent replies?) and eventually replying in CAPS the same spiel as if I could not READ and understand them. Hey, I can read just fine but you need help in communication and customer service. Mind you, the refund fr iTunes didn't cover all the issues I will never get to read. So folks, subscribing here is a money losing venture. Stick to the hard copies folks.

I like the NEW Newsweek!. I do not get all the naysayers. This is a solid, easy to use app. Newsweek has taken a bold, brave step into the future of publishing. It is all going to end up online eventually and Newsweek is breaking the ground for others to follow. I love having the added feature of videos; can't get that in paper. It is so easy to navigate and I found the sign up and user guide simply and straight forward without a problem to get started. The articles are the same Newsweek quality as we're in print and the graphics are excellent as is the lay out as are the photos. There is nothing there not to like, at least not for me and I've been a Newsweek subscriber for decades. So, while I am of the boomer generation, I am enjoying the transition into the realm of digital publication. I warmly recommend this app.

laggy. look, I like newsweek. they seem to be struggling to find their way in both the digital and printed world, but even as is, I enjoy the magazine. it's hard to tell too much from the free issue they've given us here. it looks crisp and beautiful. but I have two problems. first, you download the entire magazine to your iPad so you can read it even when you don't have a wifi connection. and yet, inexplicably, there is STILL a serious lag when you turn the pages. a full second or two where it says "loading." if the app downloaded each page as you turn it, then fine, but this seems to just be bad design. I downloaded the WIRED app, which is far more fully featured and rich with multimedia (and which works the same way--you download the entire issue), and the pages turn instantaneously. so the lag here is extremely annoying. secondly, there is no multimedia. nothing to distinguish it from a paper magazine. the industry is changing and sadly, again and again newsweek does not seem to be able to keep up.

Where's this week's issue??. I've been subscribing to Newsweek for decades and have loved the magazine. I'm open-minded enough to appreciate their move to all digital. However, I felt like the biggest luddite on the planet when I can't seem to navigate the issue properly, nor understand how the archives work, get logged out somehow, etc etc. I came here to see if others are having problems and I'm relieved to see it's not my ineptness that is causing the problems, but rather Newsweek's! This is my first foray into digital magazines, burt let me just say it's not a good one. But all that aside, (I'm assuming they'll figure out they have to do a much better job with the whole online experience), where is this week's issue?? Here it is, Wednesday, and it's not out yet. I ALWAYS received my print issue in the mailbox on Tuesdays so how in the world is it that the online issue apparently isn't ready? Once again, I figured I'd somehow screwed up and wasn't doing something right since I couldn't find the latest issue last night when I looked for it, but alas, from what I can tell, there is no issue this week! I don't recall their EVER failing to get an issue out on time so this is really unacceptable. Figure it out, Newsweek. It pains me that you're trying to be trailblazers here in the digital age and are screwing this up instead.

Almost there. I've always loved Newsweek in the print edition but the new format caused me to not renew for the first time in 15yrs. Still have an affinity for the magazine and the writers and was excited when I saw this app a few days ago. I don't agree with people that Newsweek for the iPad is priced right. IPad is still in the early adopter phase which means all you people willing to pay $3 have money to burn. If Newsweek truly wants mass adoption of the Ipad, they need a price point of around $1-2 an issue with a subscription option that's comparable to print. Envisioning the day when neighborhood kids come to the door selling ipad magazine subscriptions :)

Very disappointing. Did everyone on the design, IT and editing teams get laid off or something? The Newsweek app used to be great, with interesting stories with an easy to use and interactive design. Then the last update came. The redesign is so terrible I can't help but wonder if the staff made a bet to see if they could create the worst app ever. Not only have I experienced the tech issues mentioned below with issues disappearing or failing to download, I was shocked by the degree to which the new layout and design makes the magazine almost unreadable. They eliminated the variety of different length stories, features, etc. and now only have several stories that are giant blocks of text. Not to mention that you lose your place every time you close the app. I have also notified an increasing amount of glaring typos in each issue that make me wonder if anyone is even proofing the magazine? I kept waiting for Newsweek to release an update to correct the horrible changes, but it never came. I have grown up reading Newsweek and will miss reading it each week, but I am left with no choice but to cancel my subscription. Shame on whoever is responsible for these changes for ruining a great publication!

Price issue. Get real about the price of this, folks. These kinds of news outlets are a dying breed unless we support them, and this is a great price for a great news source. I like the fact that you do not have to purchase eve issue, so if you do not have time to read one, just don't buy it. A yearly subscription would be great and I hope they provide that, but meanwhile, this is a great start. I dropped my kindle subScription to Newsweek because of not getting the photos and color, so I am thrilled to see this app. It does need some improvement in terms of the display ... It needs to have a better method for enlarging the print so that it is readable, but otherwise overall it is a great start,

New app frustrating. Why would the developers FORCE portrait mode?

Great. Excellent reporting! Keep it up.

Excellent pricing, great first effort!. A sure buy for three bucks. Thank you Newsweek! And thank you for bringing it to the iPad. Excellent indeed! One more thing: optimize your app for the iPad display. Right now there's too much wasted space on all corners. You do not need the chevron to indicate page turns... everybody knows you swipe to turn a page. Once again, make use of the whole resolution. Fit the page optimally.

Another failure of account management. Seriously, can this really be so hard? While initially I was able to register from my print subscription without a problem, with the new version, my password isn't recognized and the links to reset it don't work. This is now three out of four newsstand subscriptions that I've had trouble with. I'd really like to switch over to softcopy periodicals, but until the bugs get worked out of the account management in the Newsstand app, I'm going back to dead trees.

Klaatubarata. Garbage. Although the app recognizes that I have a print subscription, it fails to load the latest edition. Actually, we have two subscriptions! My wife purchased a new subscription when she couldn't get the Kindle app to recognize our print subscription. I then downloaded the iPad version, and it downloaded two Newsweek editions -- the last print, and the first all-digital -- but then stopped! I strongly suggest that you fix this, or prepare to go out of business entirely. Steve Jobs would is probably very unhappy where ever he is!

John Worsley. Good magazine, improved app, but still not completely fixed. About every second or third time I try to access the current issue, I have to delete the app and re-load it. At least it remembers my subscription now. Also have to delete and re-load the app if I haven't finished the current issue and tell it "not now" when notified of a new issue. Occasionally I can bring up the Library and select a different issue, but mostly not. When I am ready for the new issue, it appears on the Newstand but clicking on it takes me back to the previous one.

News is great, but there are NO options!. Why isn't there a feedback option/link in the app? Why can't we delete old issues and re-download them later if we want to - like on the Kindle app? The Post Co. Has been struggling with Newsweek for years, which is why it is for sale, but if they're going to create an app, shouldn't it be a well created app? Until they correct the serious negatives of this app including the pricing and a lack of a subscription feature, I would hold off on downloading.

Problem solved. Like some of the other reviewers, I was not able to login after the update. None of my email addresses worked for the password reset, and I couldn't get CS to return help requests. However, I started messing around and discovered if you click on the little gear icon in the top right corner and click on "Restore All Purchases," you will get back all the old magazines you paid for and the download button for the new issue will be enabled. Minus two stars for being a pain in the backside...on a positive note, the new format looks good.

Download in background please!!. This app would be great if only it would allow you to download in the background. I have newsstand set to do so in settings but it doesn't work. When a new issue is available, the first thing you have to do is sit and wait for it to download. You can't switch to another app while you wait because the download pauses. Also, if the iPad goes to sleep it pauses. So basically you have to sit and babysit the app while you wait for it to download. What a waste of time! Of course, who knows if this is an iOS problem or a specific app problem. Fix this please Newsweek or Apple, whoever is responsible!

Wonderful!. Excellent user interface design, easy to read, convenient, timely delivery, along with Newsweek is getting its edge back finally and recovering from Jon Meachem. I've subscribed to Newsweek since 1970. I followed along with a print copy and all the content is included in the app edition. A few ads seem to be missing though. It is easy to enter your subscription number if you drop the first six and last numerals in that long string on the mailing label as per their handy diagram. My wife was able to signin on her iPad so we can continue to share our subscription, very important. Now, where can we select that we no longer need the print edition?

Why Bother. Been a print subscriber since the 70's. Always enjoyed the magazine and was looking forward to the electronic version. I guess I expected something along the line of USA Today's simplicity in navigation. Newsweek's version is just too hard to deal with ...and the latest update has been "updating" for a couple of weeks, now. I'll be subscribing to Time Magazine. At least I'll have something to read. I gave it one star out of respect for the old magazine. This App really doesn't deserve any stars, at all. It's a huge waste of time and money.

Horrible APP. Why do many businesses continue to release products before they are tested. This APP is one of the most bug worthy applications I have ever downloaded and used. On the second issue I downloaded the APP Crashed. I was unable to do anything to the APP. I could not swipe and move pages. I could not find the, already difficult to find home page.I could not even finish the already downloaded previous weeks articles. “ Nothing” Now I need to fight Apple for my money back. The 1 edition of the magazine I was able to download but only read half! Maybe I will receive half of my $4.99????? This is a great News magazine! Horrible technology.

Newsweek is back!. The return of what was once one of the main sources of news that mattered for millions of people. In depth, thoughtful, balanced reporting instead of sound bites that do not leave the consumer any more educated than they were before they read it. A well informed middle class is indispensable for a world or nation to be nimble enough to adapt and triumph over the adversities and problems that will only increase in this rapidly changing world.

Forgot my password. So I upgrade to the new iPad, and go to open Newsweek. It asks me to put in my password...fair enough. The thing is, I used that password just once, several months ago, and cannot remember it. And there is no way for me to get a reminder! Please help, developers! Other than that, the app is awesome! Well designed, easy to use, just great! Now if only I can get into it...

Good app, but.... I don't have the problems with downloading the issues, however, I never get the downloads complete because you actually have to keep the app open. Why can't it just download in the background so I can come back to it when it is done? Sure if I use my LTE connection I can download it a lot quicker because my wifi is slow sometimes but that is not practical. Besides that I have no issues with this app!

Cannot restore old issues. I can only get the current issue since the update. When I try to download the older issues I get a message that there was an error in the download. The new interface does not save your place in an article or issue any longer, and too much of the screen is taken up with navigation bars. My Newsweek subscription is due for renewal next month. I was planning to renew until this update; now I will not unless issues are fixed. Plenty of other news sources out there.

Good content, horrible app. I don't usually write reviews, but this app is SO bad I made a point to spend a few minutes to write one. I've been a long time subscriber and appreciate the fact that we can save a few tree's and consume the content via iPad. But this is the buggiest app I've ever used on an iPAD. I have to be very careful about the sequence of loading the magazine or it pops back to the home screen. Yesterday, my attempt to read the magazine start with 4 false starts until I finally could get to my libary. Newsweek - fix you app or use a 3rd party magazine viewer. It simply makes you look bad.

Not ready for prime time. I have been reading Newsweek for many years and am not real excited about the switch to all digital even though I use my iPad all the time. I really like the paper version. This app stinks! I have fast wifi but it takes forever to download each issue. It seems like the only way for the d/l is to have the app open on the library screen (why?) It takes so long that the iPod goes to sleep before the issue is downloaded and it stops. What a joke! I can't read the magazine if I can't get the content! Try again.

Newsweek gets it. Until recently, if you had a print subscription of Newsweek and wanted the iPad app, you needed to buy a separate subscription. That has now changed with the new version of the app, making it consistent with the iPad version of the Time magazine app. The new app works great. Straightforward interface and a nice companion to the print edition. Thank you, Newsweek. A loyal reader and subscriber for over 20 years.

$25 for nothing. Can't log in. Says my email address cannot be found. Probably because I bought it through the Apple store and never signed up with an emailed. Paid for an entire year and can't read anything I paid for. Thank goodness iTunes sent me an email saying the auto renew was about to happen. Tried again, still can't get logged in. There is ZERO customer support. I tried to contact them and couldn't get a person - a message said that if I signed up for the digital version I had to solve this digitally. On my own again - guess I'll look for a news source with a good app.

Doesn't work. Look out!. I purchased the $10 subscription in-app for 3 months. It only allows me to read one issue and that one is three weeks old! It offers me to purchase the current issue, last weeks, and all others except the one three weeks ago, or it offers to sell me a subscription, even though I purchased one! Use at your own risk!!! I did not get what I paid for. And good luck finding a customer service number or email. The Newsweek print subscription won't help you. I would avoid until they work out the bugs

Not a good app before - does not download issues I purchased. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!. I started reading Newsweek and Time as a college student in the 60's. I want this app to work. The Newsweek app has never had a good interface or graphic. I would however slog through the single versions and then Newsweek (or Apple) offered a one month price. However - it own't download on my iPad 2. It's still just a bad app - perhaps reflecting the lack of journalism. Just following up - it still won't download issues I have paid for. Hope Apple can help. How do I get my money back?

This app is crap!. I like the Newsweek magazine and the app is great if it works. Here is the rub, it doesn't really work a lot of the time. I've been trying to download this week's magazine and have been unable to. Now that it is Sunday, I am wondering what will happen with next week's edition. When you email Newsweek customer service, they refer you back to the Apple customer service department. And, Apple doesn't really handle the functioning of the app, and so it goes…. I'd probably save the $2.99 a month and just read the content off the Internet since they don't seem to care whether or not they offer any service or anything worth the money that you pay for the app.

Very disappointing interface. As a long time Newsweek reader, I have to say I'm very disappointed with the interface for the iPad. It honestly looks like they took a PDF of the print version and loaded into the iPad. This app makes very little use of the design of the iPad and therefore makes it the magazine less enjoyable to read. I have it 2 stars because of the great content.... To go see how a great iPad magazine should look go and check out Fortune mag...

They first had my interest, now they have my attention. The reading experience is quite sublime, like a fine wine on a crisp autumn evening... The content, as thought provoking as the eternal debate of choosing which superpower you would choose between teleportation and invisibility. The person that developed the app undoubtedly has an enhanced sense of how to invoke aesthetic pleasure. Download this app if you would like a shotgun blast of knowledge to the face. Enjoy.

terrific app -- if you subscribe. Newsweek has done a terrific job of adapting its magazine for the iPad. But a word of caution -- the app is "free" but to actually view the content each week, you have to be a Newsweek subscriber. I've been receiving the paper version for years. if there is a way to save a tree by canceling the print version and just getting the electronic one, I'm on it.

Failure. I have been a Newsweek subscriber for more than 12 years and am still a fan of the content of this great magazine. However this app first removed the last month of downloads then lost my subscription. Calling or writing to customer service only gets a few half hearted apologies and promises to fix things, but no actual fix or return of service. This mag has had a lot of problems since it was sold and this is probably the death knell. I am so pessimistic they will get their act together that I am not going to renew my subscription and waste more money. Too bad as I am not sure where else to find this depth of reporting and world views.

Help!. I would love to read my copy of Newsweek online - as I have done for almost 40 years via print - and have taken all the steps indicated in the instructions to read it on my ipad. Although it seems to be on my screen, I have not figured out how to actually open it to read what's there. Does it really have to be that complicated, or do I need a tech to figure this out? Maybe this is a scheme to limit readership just to techies.... but after about 5 tries at figuring this out, I'm about ready to give up... what a shame......

Unable to use. Unfortunately I could not use this app on my iPad. App does appear in newsstand. When I went to download issues I saw message that there is not enough space to download, which is not true. I did download one issue but was unable to review or restore. Customer service could not help and said there were no other complaints of problem like mine and suggested something was wrong with my iPad. I have not had any other problems downloading books, music etc. so I don't think that's the case! I will be getting a refund but I'm disappointed.

Latest update breaks login. Downloaded the latest issue, no problem. Saw the update, installed it. Now it will no longer accept my store login, after trying repeatedly to make sure there are no typos, and I can longer access the downloaded issues either. Their useless "Forgot password" option? A phone number and email address to contact. If I contact them, it's to cancel the remainder of my subscription (former print edition customer). Love the iPad, many great uses, but this is not one of them, esp. with the extra hassles (which btw. I never had with the print edition)

What happened?. If I were basing the review entirely off this version it would be zero stars. Up until YESTERDAY I was able to open and read Newsweek without a problem. Now, however, whenever I click on the magazine it crashes before it loads. I've tried everything to make sure this was not just an error or glitch with my iPad. It is not. Just today Newsweek advertised that their new issue would be available today while it wouldn't be available in a physical copy until tomorrow. Newsweek, DO NOT advertise something that clearly does not work properly, if at all (as proved by most other reviews). As stated above, the thing worked great until this morning. Otherwise this is a FIVE STAR MAGAZINE AND APP. Until you can see in the reviews that this is back up and running for sure, I would not even bother downloading this free app (subscriptions cost money, obviously). If you read these Newsweek staff, PLEASE get this fixed soon. For YOUR sake.

Great App. This app works fine. Yes the account number on the print version is tricky but everything else went smoothly. Make sure you sign in after downloading the app otherwise it will ask for payment. I have not hit any bugs yet. More content and cool features makes this a win in my book. Thanks Newsweek.

Have had it with Newsweek. I was a print subscriber for 30 years, but the delivery of the electronic edition has been awful. It's just not worth the trouble anymore. I have several other digital subscriptions that work well, so I barely have any print magazines any more. But Newsweek has continually given me conflicting account information, limited access to the subscription I paid for, and doesn't seem to even get the concept that they have some responsibility to deliver what was paid for. I still have time left, but I just can't spend the time to get it fixed. Good bye Newsweek.

Works as I expected. I signed onto the Newsweek website and followed the directions for converting from the print edition to the digital one. I then download this apps and signed onto it. Everything worked smoothly and I spent the hour reading the latest Newsweek. I am not sure why this app's ratings are so awful, but it may be due to the instructions. There were several times when I was unsure of what to do. Fortunately, I chose correctly and all works well.

Need to provide subscription option. Just wanted to add my vote to the others who state the obvious. Newsweek needs to allow folks a way to subscribe to the digital edition. It also could use a few technical tweaks like a better index and an in-app way to control brightness, but mostly it needs to provide a subscription option. Also -- when I went to Newsweek for iPad Support, it just took me to the Newsweek website. No iPad support was available.

It's fine when it wants to open. The app is pretty good though some of the cover stories seem beneath the level of a major news publication (Dr. Phil? Really??). The biggest problem is its repeated tendency to not open. The app is properly loaded, the subscription information is correct and yet, I get bounced out more often than I get in to the content. For all the hoopla over this edition, what's the point if it won't even open?!

I don't think you get it. First of all, there's no way I'm paying $3 an issue when I get a year of the magazine for $20. You MUST create an annual subscription in that price range, or you will never see my money. Next, how about a table of contents? Or an index? Digital content means more than just an image of the magazine. I should be able to search by a keyword and find EVERYTHING that is related to it. Finally, the free sample is a joke. You should give one free REAL issue and let us see how an actual issue translates into your app.

Subscriber for Years. I have subscribes Newsweek for years, first the print edition, then switched to ipad subscription when it first came out. The app has been getting worse over time. Recently it does not even allow the download of issues which are part of my (ongoing) subscription (“Authorisation error”). In addition the articles have been getting worse since Newsweek was taken all digital. Apparently the few remaining subscribers to the digital edition are not worth for Newsweek to have a good working app and interesting articles. I will cancel my subscription as soon as possible and switch to TIME magazine...

Nothing wrong with app!!. There is nothing wrong with this app if you follow instructions. When downloaded it shows up in the Newstand app on your iPad. If you have a print subscription, create an account on the Newsweek website with your print account #. Then sign into the Newsweek app in the Newstand with your account info. Your digital issues should show up.

Buyer Beware. Update appears to fix subscription and authorization issues which have plagued this app for many months, but my experience indicates they are not yet fixed for print subscribers. Since Newsweek magazine is no longer sold in print, it may be that the publisher is just letting print subscribers die out. Anyway, you may be forced out of frustration to re-buy the magazine through iTunes if you want to read it. I am most concerned that this publisher's bad behavior may poison the consumer toward e-magazines. That would be a shame, as there are numerous publications like Time and Business Week that are doing a good job.

Repeatedly Loses Account. I have had this App through multiple iterations, originally from Newsweek and now through iTunes and Newsstand. Multiple times, including currently, the app has lost my account. I am signed out and cannot download new issues. Things I have had to do before, such as "restore purchases", have not helped. I was excited with the latest upgrade in October, because the app looked much better. I could actually get to all of the articles, which I could not previously. If they cannot resolve their technical issues, I will no longer renew my subscription.

Really Bad. I subscribed to the print magazine for a long time, but gave it up because I preferred to read news on the iPad. When Newsweek started iPad subscriptions, I decided to give the new venture a try. It's really not very good. What you get is pretty much a medium-resolution PDF of the magazine. You can "pinch" to zoom in, but the resulting image is not very sharp. Nothing is interactive - you can't even touch a hyperlink to check it out. I find it pretty much unreadable. Also very frustrating - there is no one to complain to, or ask for a refund. The link right here in iTunes for "Newsweek for iPad Support" takes you to the magazine's customer service page. The only iPad link is to a third-party and I have received no response. Reading articles saved to Instapaper is much easier. It's very sad that Newsweek did such a poor job with the iPad subscription model.

Misleading Emails. The "Download latest copy now" email notifications are wrong. The icon that says "Download Now" in the New Issue Notification email links to the ITunes App Store where I can download the Newsweek iPad app but not the latest issue. This is misleading. I already have the Newsweek iPad app. I need to go to the Newstand folder on my iPad desktop and tap on the Newsweek icon to open it, then click on the Library link to download the latest issue. I shouldn't have to explain this. Get your technology and communication straightened out, Newsweek!

IPad app. This is the worst app that I've ever seen. I only rated it one star because I could not go any lower and be able to write this review! I have been a Newsweek reader for 40 years and I have no idea what is in the magazine online and cannot move from one story to another without going back and starting all over again from the home screen. The developers need to take a lesson from online newspapers such as USA Today which are relatively easy to navigate. If it doesn't get better soon I shall have to ask for a refund on the 2 years remaining on my subscription!

Messed up-PS. I just now panned the new app for not downloading the new issue, and now I discovered that it won't download anything. Previous issues that were already downloaded, now are not, and the app won't load them. There were parts of three issues I hadn't read yet, and now they are gone. The intelligent people at Newsweek who write the articles need to wise up and insist that the mag get some decent tech support. Otherwise, they will soon be out of a job. It's just such a shame. Newsweek used to be such a good weekly, and now they've shot themselves in the head.

Nice, but still relatively expensive (and buggy). The stories available online are the best feature, but you can't get those, of course, if you're on a plane or the like. The ability to subscribe is nice - far better than Time's single issue only approach - but when the print subscription can be found at a much lower price than the electronic version, it's hard to justify paying. Especially since the electronic version is still buggy and crash prone, with less ability to bookmark/share etc. than if you were simply on their website.

functional and beautiful. I love the layout and functionality of the app. i think one of my favorite features is the progress bar to let you know how much is left at top. also i appreciate it always remembers my last location so its easy to pick up where i left off

Update a Disaster. Despite having a valid subscription, I no longer have access to Newsweek after the recent update. All I get is an option to buy new issues separately. I called Newsweek, they said it was an itunes issue. Itunes is no help. Doesn't Newsweek have enough problems surviving without these types of issues? Subscribers, be forewarned. (Later Note: I just gave up and cancelled my automatic renewal which was coming up. If Newsweek is this incompetent with their updates, how can I trust anything they write. Does upper management know how bad this is, or do they know and just not care? I subscribed to Newsweek since the mid-1960s. Sayonara, old friend.)

Why would I pay twice?. Dear Newsweek, As a long time subscriber, I would gladly trade in the balance of my print subscription for an iPad subscription. Surely it would save you money since you would no longer have to pay the postage. Otherwise, why would I pay $3 to read issues I am already getting in the mail? The app looks nice and I love reading magazines on my iPad. So what do you say, let's make a deal!

Difficult. I read both Time and Newsweek. When Newsweek decided to go full digital, I really had no other choice than to try it. As said by others, it is not easy to download from my iPad. And the worst is that now I can not download it at all while traveling abroad. With Time magazine, no such problem. Newsweek really needs to work harder to make the process simpler and workable if they want to keep me as a customer

Newsweek. This is the most confusing and useless app I have used. I have been a subscriber and still have a subscription and thought I had signed over to ipad use, but I can't get anything on the ipad except the screen telling about the great app. I was eager to read the article on Hilary Clinton, but could not access it. Now there is a later issue, and still I have no luck. And is it supposed to be possible for me to go back to a previous issue? I hope so, as I cannot always read the current issue right away, but want to see it later. But, first, of course I need to be able to use the program and know how to read the issue. Please help.

Why Bother?. This magazine needs to finally go away. The app functions poorly, almost as poorly as the writing and reporting. I had subscribed to the magazine (print edition) for over 20 years. But all things must come to an end. Could you at least program the app to stop logging me off? Seems an odd way to treat an actual customer. Horrible App Phase II: Please, for the love of all that is Holy, go out of business. Declare Victory and go home. The app is actually getting worse with each update. The content isn't any better. I would rather learn what is happening in the world by word of mouth.

Please wait! Newsweek app comments loading...
