The Photographer's Ephemeris Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Don’t Leave Home Without It!. I travel a fair bit and keep TPE in a special directory on the front page of my iPad. I never even think about shooting a sunrise without planning my shots using TPE. TPE tells me when and where I will get the best shot. I can see if I should change locations, recompose or try for another day. TPE is it for me. So appreciative of the updates as well. No negatives.

Best app for Photographers bar none!. If you photograph at all this is thee most needed utility next to a tripod. No, that’s not an exaggeration at all! Take the time to watch the tutorial videos and you’ll understand immediately when you plan your shot within the app. If I had to spend a couple of hundred to buy this app (lifetime fee of course) I wouldn’t find an issue doing so. Defined in three words to anyone thinking about it. YOU NEED THIS!

Serves my purpose. I’ve used TPE for several years and have found it nearly perfect for my needs. Granted I use it only at its simplest level, but it hasn’t failed me yet. I can arrive in plenty of time to get my landscape and architectural photos at sunrise or sunset. I use it both on trips and locally (in NW Oregon) with my phone and iPad.

A must for astrophotographers. Amazingly powerful app that is a must have for planning shots of the moon or any astrophotography! Thanks to this app that my instructor used, we were able to get fantastic shots of the Milky Way galaxy as it appears over local natural landmarks at night, which would just not be possible without incredible amounts of guesswork otherwise.

Fantastic resource. If you are a photographer this app is essential to your progressional toolbox. 20 years ago I did this with info from NASA and a compass. Now, bada- bing, got several shoots presently scheduled that will be money shots IF the clouds cooperate.

Cannot Save New Locations in the Mobile App. I have looked everywhere, but it appears that the only place to save a location that you personally designate is while you are in the Web Site. And, to add insult to injury, you cannot use the desktop version on a mobile device. This is very inconvenient considering I always have my mobile devices when traveling rather than my desktop computer. Additionally, the Skyfire add-on is rarely correct. I understand that weather changes, but when the accuracy is less than 50% that is an issue.

Easy to use, great information on sunrise and sunset. Easy to use app for finding exact sunrise and sunset times, as well as other astronomical information. Well integrated with Google or Apple Maps. I’ve used it in Europe and North America.

Daily checker. I use this app everyday to check conditions. The apps has a learning curve but once you start using it it becomes second nature. Excellent for planning photo trips and locations. I really like the night time/Milky Way mode and the optional Skyfire feature. Highly recommend this app if your into landscape photography. Only issues I’ve had is the clunky sign in process for Skyfire. Usually have to turn the WiFi off on my iPhone in order to sign in.

Pretty handy. This app helps a bunch in planning placement of sun and moon sets/rises once the subject scout hunt results in success. It’s pretty deep in its feature set too. Those I’ve tapped prove useful and fun. Recommend highly.

Extremely useful.. I’ve been using this app for about a year or more and it has proven very useful. I have several locations saved near home and a National Park where I go to to observe and photograph sun and moon rises and sets. Particularly, I try to photograph moon rises or sets within the Earth’s Shadow. This app provides the times and locations where this will happen. What it cannot do is control the weather, so ultimately it is still a challenge, but using this app ensures that you have all the information at hand to be in the right place at the right time.

TPE - YES! SkyFire - Terrible. Does TPE have any relationship with the terribly inept SkyFire App? We buy SkyFire through the TPE app. Either tell them to pull their head out of their butts and make the app work like it used to work, or boot them off your TPE partner list!!! I am tired of this after 4 years. I am now writing negative reviews everywhere I can. I have emailed, contacted, entered support tickets - and - not a single response! Drop The Bums

Professional Outdoor Photographer. An essential tool for serious & curious outdoor photographers. I’m not sure how I managed all those years without it! Its features are deep & robust. Expect a steep learning curve if you want to take advantage of its most useful features. In my book the time you spend will yield huge dividend!!!

Wonderful!. While it took a bit to learn how to use it, I now use this for all of my planned photo shoots as a semi-pro landscape photographer. I even used it for a very important shoot where I wanted to position the sun behind a particular landmark, and it came out perfectly.

Very hard to use. I’ve had this app for years and it can be helpful but it’s also too hard to use most the time and I don’t think I’m going to renew my yearly subscription again My issue is that the main thing I like to use it for is favoriting a location and then having sky fire notify me when the conditions are good. Haven’t used the app on a while and I can no longer figure out to do something as simple as add a location as a favorite. Went online and tried to find help and can’t find anything. Why can’t you just favorite a location as you search for it? The app could be better if they just made it more intuitive

City skyline. Wow, this app was on point during my New Year’s Eve weather check. It predicted a radiant sunrise over the Pacific Northwest at one of my favorite locations. It did not fail and I got the most beautiful light before and during sunrise. By the way, I got the shot.

Still a beginner but learning a lot about this app. This app is unbelievably sophisticated. My main use is for sky fire. But I have used the tool that allows me to plan a shot by using street view and the type of camera and lens. I just got a new lens for night sky photography. I have zero knowledge of the night sky so this will hopefully help. I am planning on watching some of their help videos to get the full benefit of this app.

Some Love, Some Frustration. I love TPE, the 3-D model I have not been so quick to adapt but that could be personal preference. My largest frustration to date is with the SkyFire add-on. I paid for the subscription and have my favorite spots setup. TPE keeps logging me out of the app and therefore I'm missing notifications! Very frustrated...

I'm always using TPE. If your a photographer it's almost a must have. You'll quickly get hooked and with the google maps integration. I find myself using TPE in place of the google maps app even when I'm not shooting. It's a great tool and well worth the cost.

Indispensable. Absolutely indispensable app for photographers. Simply a must-have on your mobile phone. DON’T recommend paying extra for SkyFire as the overlay published at 2:15/3:15 PM usually isn’t pushed to your phone until an hour before sunset by which time you should already be where you’re going. Near worthless.

Great app but.... It works very well for sun/moon alignment but don’t rely on this app for sky colors. It fails quite a lot. The days that the app was showing very intense colors on the map I went out to photograph and it ended up being very boring and no much colors and the days that shows no colors at all, like white, I look outside my window and the sky and clouds were totally pink and beautiful colors. Trust in your instincts and go out when you think there’s a chance to be nice. Don’t trust this app for that!

Photo planing tools. I have been using the web app for while and today I purchased the “Photo planing tools” package. After spending a little while, preparing for a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton, I am really glad. I do see what I have been missing, even though the web app is good. TPE, TPE 3D and TPT are inseparables and work seamlessly. Get or upgrade to the tools package if you already have the TPE.

Amazing Photography App. There are so many features packed into this App that it’s amazing. Spend a little time learning how to tap the potential and you will be rewarded with information to get the best photos and video. Just started flying a drone and have found this very helpful.

Works great for night photography. I don’t do night photography all the time but this app is mighty helpful whenever I’m thinking about it. It answers all the guessing that would potentially ruin a shot for so many reasons like light pollution and where the milky way is etc. keep it up!

Poor tutorials. I have not been able to find good tutorials on the use of these programs, unlike with a popular competing product. I want to like these programs, but so far they haven’t replaced the other product.

5 for location information, 2 for functionality. As much as I love this app, it drives me a bit bonkers. While you can find the directionality of the sun and milky way and all the cool stuff by placing the pin on the head of ant, the program does require a learning curve. [1] It is not intuitive. [2] The desktop version is equally non-intuitive and does not provide a night option or one that is easily found. [3] You can not enter GPS coordinates easily. On the web version you have to write a URL instead of simply entering the coordinates into two designated boxes like at least a dozen other apps offering GPS functionality. Still, despite these annoyances, it does the trick and once you work through it ‘particulars’ and you couple this with, say, Photopills, it does a hell of a job.

There is nothing like it. I have been using this tool on my iphone for a decade. Just realized it might exist for the ipad, and am downloading now so thought I’d write a quick review. I love this tool so much. Highly, highly recommend.

Must Have App. Every photographer should use this in any natural light. It’s easy to use and offers a ton of options to get just what you want.

So Many Uses!. There are obviously many ways to use this for photography, but there’s so much more! Where should you buy seats to the game/concert so you’re not staring into the sun? Depends on the time of day.

Brilliantly well thought out.. A deep, science based app that cannot help but make you a better landscape photographer. It’s astounding what this program will do if you invest the time to learn how to truly use it. Impressive. Lighting is not happen-chance with this.

Incredibly useful!. Don't you dare photograph New Mexico without it!! Four stars because a few parts are awkward on the app, and it would be incredible to have it use the actual horizon in our mountains. Must have, improvements continue. Can't beat!

For City/Landscape Photographs. It is great to show you the elevation and “Flow” of the land. Also it has 4 types of maps showing this in Google & 2 using Apple maps. You can see what you are getting into, but you must remember the this is just a map form yesterday, new trails or changes are not shown. Also the view is of the elevation is great as long as they haven’t built anything or grasses/trees grown too much, which is not true for Charlotte,NC. All this being said, I related the program a 5 Star because it shows you so many points of view, the sun & moon flow in the sky at a specific time and a better location to at least start looking for a good spot to get the frame you want. This program is great for starting a plan from your house and then going out for the picture.

Great Update!. Thank you for another great update to PE. The new interface is elegant and awesome. This program is great for photographers planning a shot related to the sun or moon. It is also great for astronomy-related information. Highly recommended!

If your a Critical 5 shooter get it.. Personally I don't believe in the golden hour. I believe in the critical five minutes. It's in those five minutes you have to be ready. And with The Photographers Ephemeris you have plenty of time to prepare.

Years of use and service. I think I have been using this app for more than 5 years. I have gotten so many great moon rises both morning and night. It is so helpful for planning shoots. A portrait with the sun or moon in the distance is memorable. It has gotten a little busy over the years with all the features but well worth the extra strain on my aging eyes. The developer loves this app and they put their heart and sole into it trying to make it the best it can be. (App Request: Dummy mode: only display what can be used in the 3 hours.) Worth every penny and will last you several camera bodies. This is one of the first apps I recommend to my photo friends and install on my new apple devices. Enjoy.

A wonderful surprise after many years! Eclipses too!. I've been using TPE for many years now, to do mundane stuff like help people plan weddings so the photos would work. And yesterday I discovered it also predicts eclipses. Beautifully and precisely. Great stuff!

Very helpful Support. I had a problem getting Skyfire to work in TPE. Stephen was very helpful. It didn’t take long and we had the issue fixed. Response time was very quick. TPE is pretty awesome. I hope to get a lot of use from it for planning in depth photography locations.

App is ok could be much better easily. Why doesn’t the app automatically reset to today’s date? It asks you if you want to, but also includes a “don’t ask again” button. Which is ambiguous. Is it don’t ask again because it will always reset or don’t ask again and it won’t reset. I assure you more often than not people are interest in today and future dates. Not historical.

Nothing else like it!. Extremely useful app, if you want to plan your photography for a trip or event. Pick your location-instantly you see sun and moon rise and set times. Tap on the date to pick a future date. Swipe a finger across the display at the bottom to see the direction of sun or moon overlaid on the map-satellite photo help plan the shot, and even tells you if terrain will obstruct your view of eg sunset. I have used it to choose location for a one time trip to the Mackinaw Bridge, as well as look to see where is the closest place to travel for the next solar eclipse. If you care about getting the most good locations for your photo trip, hands down this is the one to get!

Skyfire. The Skyfire function can be very frustrating at times as it will not load. I will sign out and in over and over, zoom in and out with Skyfire not functioning. Please fix this issue as the trouble has been there since I subscribed over a year ago. This is one of my favorite features when it works.

Incredible App. I have been using TPE for years. I use it for photograph composition, but also for viewing times with my telescope, and even for simple sky object identification. There is a fairly simple learning curve, supported by great documentation and video tutorials. Powerful. Loaded with options. Accurate. Dependable lengthy track record.

Essential tool for landscape photography. I find TPE not only very useful but also essential in some cases for successful landscape photography. Knowing ahead of time where and at what time sunrise and moonrise will occur and even being able to compensate for the effect of obstructions such as nearby hills or more distant mountains has allowed me to position myself at just the right spot at the right time. I highly recommend this tool for landscape photography.

Promising, but flawed. Really great overall execution and features. With an nearly-unusable UI. There are lots of really weird choices that don’t make sense, but the main problem is: You can’t zoom out enough to pan around and find a location. Search doesn’t work well. This means if aren’t standing AT your location, or at least close, you may not be able to use the app. It’ll tell you it’s at “flight ceiling.” Come on, it’s a map. In general it’s a useful bit immensely frustrating app that will take 4x the amount of time it should.

Beautifully Done. I just wish the morons at microsoft and lately Apple could design and write software half this well. Very well thought out, beautifully conceived, written and extremely useful. These three apps (or any one of them for that matter) take your photography to an entirely new level. They work together perfectly. Very complimentary with PhotoPills (you definitely want these three apps even if you already have it). What a pleasure ...

Excellent tool for photographers!. Very useful for planning your photography when you want to create the perfect shot whether it is sunsets, moon rises, Milky Way, or trying to determine visibility between arbitrary points on a map. One feature that I find differentiates this from other similar apps is that it shows the height of the terrain between two different points while taking into account the ENTIRE path between the two points. Other apps simply would disregard the fact that a mountain may be in between you and the far end obstructing your line of sight. To get the most from the tool, watch the videos posted on Vimeo on usage. Once I watched those, I had a much better understanding of how to use the tool effectively. Great stuff!!

Excellent for planning public astronomy nights. I am a member of an astronomy club in California and we have several public Observing events. It is a real thrill for visitors when we can tell them that evening exactly when to start watching the exact place on the horizon where the moon will rise. No matter where we are!

The whole suite is fabulous; so useful and such detailed info!. And the desktop version (paywall), has so much more info! Useful for artists, interior designers planning around light, landscape garden designers, etc.

Excellent Application could use some additional features.. Very useful app, easy to use maps and the ability to predict orbital routes is super. I would really love to see a tidal feature added to the application, for us closer to water to know when the tide is in or out and its time. Please add.

TPE- essential tool for the informed photographer. Having TPE in the toolbox is really important to me so I make the most of my photography time. Surely happenstance photography ‘happens’ and I like to have my camera with me on a walk about with the dogs or just being out, intentional photography is deliberate and planned. You are still going to get surprises for content but hope to capture photos and videos of landscape and cityscape with the best opportunity for them to make a memorable impression. I am very please with Skyfire and when I find a quiet morning in the winter with little wind and a good chance of color I am headed to the lake to see if some long exposure photography can bring out some amazing photos with mirror like reflections of the landscape and sky. So many opportunities to use it for both day and night photography, it really is a tool for the informed photographer.

Amazing App. With this app I have been able to plan for shots for a planned trip or for a date and time that I can get a shot based to the sun or moon position relative to a land mark. I’ve used it for city shots and nature shots. It’s a great tool.

Everything sun moon related in the palm of your hand. And it’s not just for photography. Curious where and when to look for sun/moonrise? On vacation and want to know where the sunset will be? This app does it all. Helps set up that one chance shot. And let’s you know when your next chance will be (or if it will even align). Well worth the price.

Awesome app. A must for any landscape photographer. Easy to use, and very, very useful. Thoroughly recommend.

Product Destroyed by Updates. A great product that has been destroyed by recent updates. It insists on having my location in Africa when I live in Australia. Try changing in Settings with little success.

Very handy app for photography natural lighting.. I use TPE quite regularly when looking to set up golden hour or sunrise / sunset shots, especially when looking at locations other than home.

Great out in the field. I have used this app many times when out shooting and planning shoots. Look forward to updates and new features like tides etc. Skys the limit. Love the desk top product as well.

Great stuff. If only it had tide information as well

GREAT APP!! - A Photographers Must. Great App!! A Photographers Delight : - )

Put my finger on it. Wish the 8 way slider menu was at the top so my fingers didn't obstruct when using the map but otherwise great app.

Awesome!. works brilliant ! Need a bit of reading to get used to the interface. videos are quite explanatory and help document is also great. Everyone will love the app specially who loves capturing sun/moon in their shot or want to know how the shadow is going to play out at certain place at certain time!

A very very cool app.. Indispensable! :)

Great app.. Great little app. The only thing I would like to see is weather and tides to save time.

Great for planning a day out. I love this little app on my iPad. I am planning an overseas photographic orientated trip and have adjusted my plans to allow for the positions of the Sun during the day. It is great being able to do this months in advance. Keep up the good work!

Great App, one suggestion. This is a great app out in the field, very easy to navigate and use (provided you have reception). I think it could do with a "notes" field so you can add additional info when you save a location, so instead of typing a long description into the title you can include notes such as best times of day or interesting features.

The right time and place, every time!. Ansel Adams is quoted as saying "A good photograph is knowing where to stand." With TPE I can get a very good idea of where and when I want to stand, and what I'll be able to see. I've been using the app for quite a while, and the latest version adds even more information on elevation and the visibility of astronomical bodies. In my opinion it is essential for landscape photography, and very easy to use. The ability to synchronize my locations between iPad and iPhone just improves the convenience even more. I recently had a technical problem with the app, which Stephen went to quite a bit of trouble to fix. Well done, for a great app and excellent service. If you're a photographer get TPE!

Great App!. I use TPE and her sister programs to plan every large landscape shot I take. It’s fantastic for choosing the right spot and the right time of year to get exactly the shot envisaged by the photographer. It’s also great for exploring shot concepts when time is limited and landing on those with the greatest chance of success. The time period indicators such as “Golden Hour” allows me to plan out leaving times from base camp and ensures I always have sufficient time to setup my shots ( I take a lot of HDR multi-position landscapes) I have just recently started Astrophotography and now also use TPE 3D in conjunction with this app for planning. Keep up the great work guys. Looking forward to seeing “Skyfire” for Australia and NewZealand!

TPE. Why does the automatic time zone and location not work? I live in Australia NOT Africa. It is a pain to have to input the location manually all of the time! Other than that it seems ok and will be quite useful, and will be excellent IF it incorporates the rest of the world in its features and not just the just the USA.

Put this in your kitbag. Very handy app for predicting exactly where and when sun will set and rise, same for the moon.

Master. I've been a pro for 40 years, and I reckon this has to be the 2nd best thing than the camera for landscape photographers.

Brilliant. It's a big improvement on the original version I 100% recommend this app for anyone thinking on getting it

Absolutely Fabulous. I'm an enthusiastic amateur who loves photographing the moon in particular. This app is brilliant. Set multiple locations and see where the sun or moon are going to rise and set any day of the year. I would be lost without it! Would love if it showed what else was going on in the sky at the same time, but that's probably another app!! :)

Good tool. I use this app to plan photo outings. Helps me create great images.

A great app for a keen photographer. I was a little sceptical at first then I bought the app and started using it. My experience of this app so far is nothing short of brilliant! I love it and I am always using it. It has helped me improve my photography with planning shoots and scouting locations. The app is easy to use and very handy for both sun and moon rise/set information. There is so much available data with his app depending on the level of detail the user is looking for. The email support from the developer is also as good as the app. My best app by far.

Perfect. Just love this app, simple yet powerful.

Awesome until it’s inaccurate.. Awesome right up until it’s unreasonably inaccurate. Watching the moon rise about a km from where I should be. Thanks 🙏

TPE keeps getting better. I love the functionality and ease at which this software has built into it for photography

Great App. Let's me plan my photo shoots with loads of information about upcoming events.

Feature rich, superb app. This is not just a tool to improve my photography. It's introduced me to a whole new way of understanding the world around me.

Excellent. Love this app for location shooting to determine where to shoot and when.

Excellent tool. This app is so handy when planning shoots, especially months in advance

Don't leave home without it!. To be out in the field and being able to coordinate my location with the sun and the moon is heaven!

Top tool. This is a very good tool for anyone who wants to know what the sun will be doing at anytime anywhere in the world. If you photograph landscapes, buildings or bridges you need this.

This app is amazing.. This is an amazing app and can't wait to use it out in the field. Was taking a quick look as I'm going on holiday to Vietnam and this will help to plan some really nice landscape pics.

Import and export of locations. Why is it so difficult to import and export locations? Why do I have to “email” them to do this? Wouldn’t it be much easier if I could save the KML file to “Files”??? This handicap really spoils my enjoyment of TPE, I’m sorry to say!!

Well done, all the info you could need. Nearly didnt..$.. But, cheaper than a photo mag. Sometimes you are reminded how much apps can help. I have been using sun seeker/google maps to location scout for a while, this has all that and more in one interface. I can now more accurately plan lighting for locations across the city.. Or world! Have started planning shoots and adding pins for all my fav's. So much more info to use if you want..elevation/shadows/moon phase nicely done. (The only other possible slice of info if possible, TIDE TIMES Per location?) Save you scouting/shooting $ in the long run

Great app. This is a great app for all sorts of planning in regards to where the sun/shadows are going to be. Thanks.

Invaluable App. Fantastic application, makes planning and preparing for a shoot so much easier... Wouldn't be without it !

I agree. I agree with everyone else awesome app if you do landscape photography it's a needed item. Great for planning your shoots . Very useful app highly recommended

Great App for landscapes. Easy to use. Great interface and interaction with google maps. Makes assessing sunrises and sunsets easy. If you could add tidal information it would be complete.

Awesome. I use this app on all it's platforms. Excellent. Really great way to do sun and moon shoot planning.

TPE. When knowing the position of the sun and moon are important, then this is the application to use. To be able simulate the passing of the sun and moon through the sky this is the application for you! To see if the morning and evening light is hidden by the land formation, then this is the application to use. Many other uses are possible, will the Full moon be visible during sunrise or sunset then,..... This is the application for you. Fantastic application for any landscape photographer.

Works just great !. Very helpful app, works great and does what I want. Awesome

Awesome app for landscape photographers!. I find this app invaluable for planning my photo shoots - picking locations, times & days. I love it!!

Best in class. I have used the desktop version for a while and it is just perfect. The iPhone version will make it even more portable - highly recommended.

So very handy. I have taken up photography again and have found this app so helpful in my decision on where and when I need to be for those crucial moments in relations to sun rise and sun set, as well as the moon. Thanks for the app!

Just brilliant!. Does everything a landscape photographer would want. As for a seascape photographer? Now if it only had tides.....

Amazing!. Best app for sunrises/sunsets. However it's a little bit heavy so most of the time I'm using a different app. Anyway 5 stars!

The Twitcher. If you're wondering about getting this app, get it. You won't regret it one bit! Makes it so easy to plan shoots! Love it!

Fantastic. Invaluable tool for every photographer and traveler.

Superb. Have been using for quite a while for photography. Terrific App. Does all that is claimed.

Brilliant. This app is just brilliant. Beautifully designed and a pleasure to use in the field and in the armchair dreaming of the next shoot. I am a professional maker and as along with my weather app this is a must for planning and scouting locations. All the best to the developers.

The Photographers Ephemeris. The desktop version hooked me, and the iPhone version is a great portable solution. Does exactly what it says on the box, and then some. Highly recommended

Invaluable. I'm an architectural photographer and use TPE for planning literally every shoot. Great interface.

Great app for what I need. As a realtor's assistant in cottage country, my boss and hence me, is always being asked "where does the sun set/rise", "is there sun on this deck in Jan, Aug, Nov?", etc. - this app is great for this but I do find the learning curve steep for all the other features available. Still a great app and worth the money. Is it available on other platforms?

Si easy to use. I just love it. When you travel or even just around, it make a huge difference so you can take gorgeous pictures by planing where you should be located to take the perfect shot.

Buy it!. Excellent app. Never a problem (unlike some other apps).

The Photographer's Ephemeris. Excellent tool for landscape photographers. I use this app every time I'm taking an outdoor photo.

A must have for all photographers !!!. This app is simply the best one in it's category! I was a little bit hesitant to buy because of the price but let me tell you that you will not regret it. It is very well done and very very accurate. Alain Landry

Unhappy. Rendered the app useless since the last update. This update did not fix the short comings of the update. Sent in screen shots of the map for my area of before and after the update to the developers very disappointed.

Much easier to use. The previous version was a bit clumsy to work with. Some functions just didn't seem to be available. I wouldn't say it is a joy just yet but I find it very useful for my photographic purposes.

Photographer apps. It's the best apps each photographer need to have. The developer added great functionality. Very recommended.

Marcel Painchaud. Great app, especially when traveling to a new location for photography at dawn or dusk.

Excellent!. An essential photographer tool for sun/moon set/rise shots.

Elegant user interface. A feat in user interface design. Delivers extremely technical information in a very elegant UI. Bravo!

TPE Rocks. This is a fine and reliable app. It useful in video, photography and astronomy use. Thanks for writing this program.

Great app difficult to use. User interface is not intuitive, access to features is not obvious. Finding and storing locations other than where you are standing is hidden, several buttons are so dark you cannot determine what they indicate

Fantastic!. This app is great for planning outdoor shots, day or night. A must have for photographers that want to get it right. Each version better than the last. Thank you Crookneck!

Great app. This is a must for any landscape photographer. It works great and very easy to get up to speed quickly.

A must for outdoor photography. Very useful app with lots of functions. Makes planning easier and very easy to use

A must have for the traveling photographer. Excellent tool for becoming more efficient and effective while planning and shooting. Helps make the most of your travel time and money.

Excellent app for photographers. My go to source for photographing sites around the world to make sure I get the best light

Love it. Very helpful and precise .. Great job

The App Outdoor Photographers Have Been Waiting For!. Anyone who does serious amateur or pro shooting will LOVE this app. At it's most basic it tells you when and where the sun and moon will rise and set for any location you can pinpoint on it's (Google based?) map. Using a range of tools you can then see where the sun will be anytime of day, when it will appear or disappear in relation to local hills or mountains, what is being illuminated by the sun. It's all overlaid on the map or satellite view. You can plan your entire day's shooting and know that you have the best chance of getting the image you want.... As long as the weather cooperates. Because the desktop version has the most functions they should make locations share from the desktop to the iPad and iPhone versions ASAP. The desktop version is free and combined with how to videos on the company website you can figure out using the more complicated features. The main time and direction information is super easy to access but they should give a bit better instruction on features that use elevation data In had basic features working from startup and an hour on the website and playing with the app I seem to have most of it working. I've already bookmarked some locations I will now try to hit for sunrise pictures. I'll also use the sunrise sunset data for planning video shoots. Being able to tell how many hours of daylight you will have on a given date in a distant location be very useful for planning shoots. Try the free download version on your Mac or pc. You won't believe how useful this is. Will be full stars when they make locations share between versions.

Skyfire is broken. Fixed after a glitch and great again.

Great app. Excellent app for any occasion.....especially when travelling. I use it all the time.

Amazing, easy to learn, time and money-saving tool!. This lets me plan my shots more easily, and reduces wasted travel time, and helps me make the most of my vacation time. I have the iPad version and the free Windows desktop version and they are both good. Highly recommended. I just use the basic fetaures and I use them for planning outdoor people portraits as well as landscapes. There are some advanced features for more sophisticated users and I'm sure they are even more useful for ultra-skillful landscape photographers. I also bought Bruce Percy's ebook, Understanding Light With The Photographers Ephemeris, and it is a worthwhile book to own.

Very useful tool!. Love it.

Simple and accurate. Being a software developer myself, there are only two things I look for in an application: the ability to do the job it was purchased for and ease of use. This application seems accurate and contains a wealth of information while keeping all functionality a gesture away. Very well done!

Simply the best scouting tool for photographers. I have been using TPE for a few years and it is a must have app. Great for scouting out locations. The ability to add and save locations makes going back to favourite spots and being there for just the right light weather permitting. Only wish would be to sync and save locations on multiple devices.

New Version - as good, if not better!!. It took me a few minutes to orient myself to the new version, but now that I'm "there" I like it even more! It seems like it has better use of limited screen real estate. It also seems to take fewer clicks to do what I want with new version - great!

An essential for photogs!. Get this app! Great tool for planning your scenery shots! Download, set up, shoot, be amazed!

Very Useful Tool. Great tool for landscape photographers. I use it all the time when scouting for locations. You won't be disappointed.

Beautiful Application. TPE is, for me, an absolute essential in planning and executing almost any outdoor photography assignment. Superb!

Used to love it, not now. I spent a lot of time learning to use the previous IOS version and now the UI is so different it's unusable without another significant time investment. Why do you need to fix something that's not broken. It's so bad, I may just abandon it and find something else. Really, really disappointed!!

Lost its way. This app made sense, before the latest update for the iPhone. Now it is a confused mess.

Best photo apps. Simply a great apps, everything you need for outdoor pic. Where or when the sun and the MOON will be up in the sky! Everywhere you go!!

Need a few more bobbles.... This used to be a great, usable app. Now u can Facebook, tweet, send selfies. F&@&") useless 2 find moon & sun. But friends kno where u r !!!

It Does what it says.. Does what it says. Stable and it is exact. I am very happy with this app. Good buy for the money.

Still a crap app - but WAAAAAY worse than before. I so hate this app now. Help is just gobble-dee-goop. Shadows are a joke. *Extremely* DIFFICULT to use or understand, especially compared to the earlier version. All you can do here is check sunrise and sunset and same for moon. Too difficult to use this for anything else. And a complete RIP OFF for the $10 you have to pay for this piece of crap. Not great before but it was workable. Now it is crap. I will have the find another app. Why do they always make things worse? If it was working, leave it alone.

Great. Fantastic really useful tool for photographers but hate the update, the old interface was much more intuitive. See no benefit, only disadvantages to this update. A shame, a useful tool

Excellent!. TPE is opening up new possibilities for me to plan dramatic photos. It takes some effort to learn how to make use of the app, but then the rewards are obvious. A big time saver, too, preventing wasted outings.

Super. Thanks great apps working everywhere Love it! R

Awesome. It s a while I have been using this app and I should admit that it s very functional and user-friendly!

Wonderful!. An essential tool for landscape photography.

Invaluable planning tool. TPE and the new TPE 3D app are invaluable tools to help plan photo shoots and pick locations for nightscape images. I use them all the time.

In theory it's great!. But, it's complicated. It doesn't easily recognize when you're in a new location.

Like a an electronic tide schedule for the sun & moon.. Awesome app for planning photo shots. I have used it to plan my son & daughters senior proms and for planning the eclipse.

Superb. A must have for photographers!

Great Planning tool. Will make the fun of photography even more FUN Thanks

Great App. I use this app all the time. Preforms like it should every time.

Don’t buy Skyfire. TPE app itself is fantastic and earns 5 stars Skyfire is absolutely awful and drops it 2 stars. Save yourself the subscription and do not sign up for Skyfire. Free website predictions are correct far more often than this.

Perfect tool. Very useful tool for photographers. After using it you may not want to live without it ...... BJF

Great app!. No bugs or issues that I can see.

Best Sunset/Sunrise Photographer App. It is worth its weight in gold for know where the sun and moon are at during any time of the day/night/year.

Awesome App. One of the most useful app out there

Great app. Love the app, a little tricky to learn some features but overall love the app

Awesome app. Don’t miss out. Awesome app. Don’t miss out!

Could be good. This could be a usable app if it were not for a number of features that cause the app to shut down. The developer has failed to address the issues.

First time user. Everything’s is what I am looking for so far. I will use it as soon as the weather gets nicer!!

A treasure for sky seekers.. Great for dreaming, too. Wish I had this when shooting IMAX films

AMAZING TOOL!. Best tool for pinpointing & studying light BEFORE heading out to a photoshoot.. Since google earth!

Perfect photo planning app in every way. Simply could not be done any better. Helps with every aspect of shot and light planning.

Fantastic app for planning moonrise’s, sunsets, Milky Way shots. One of my most favorite apps for planning photo opportunities! Update: crashes while launching TPE-3D

Insanely good. Once you get the hang of all the controls and information shown, this app is insanely useful. Love it!

Very useful tool. I have used TPE since I retired. It has been indispensable in create some of the images I cherish. Follow the light!

As important as remembering a memory card. Great app and I have Sky plus option. Great for sunrises and sunsets

Great app. This app is very helpful in planning shots as well as bring a vision to reality. Thank you.

Skyfire doesn’t work at all. This morning, skyfire has the entire San Francisco area dark orange. Every forecast app shows 0% chance of clouds. How is skyfire saying there is going to be 85+% chance of photogenic clouds when all the forecasts say 0%? In reality there are no clouds this morning, clear skies. This scenario is repeated over and over again.

Excellent and a must for photographers and videographers. A godsend for making sure the camera is facing the right way when doing sun/moon rise/set for time lapses

Handy. This app is handy, not just for photography either, I use it in boating too.

Must Have Tool. Simply the most useful plan tool you will ever own.

Avoid Skyfire if you live near the border or coast. This review is specifically for the skyfire portion of TPE. While TPE is great, Skyfire is the complete opposite. There have been updates to the forecast map which heavily reduce its usability for anyone who lives near coastal border cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, or Seattle. 1. The map has been cropped to 50 miles off the US coastline. Clouds are still visible 300 miles off the coast, making this useless for ocean shots 2. The forecast crops out all of Mexico and Canada, including their international waters. This means that your app is useless at least 50 percent of the year, especially during winter.

Excellent!. Very well done. An indispensable tool for any photographer wanting better images.

Keeps crashing. Any time I have TPE open for planning and try to get the info to TPE 3D or transit, it always hangs or crashes.

Very difficult to work with. Really Sorry I bought this app as it is not easy to work with. Will probably take hours of tutorial time to understand. I bought it for the sunset predictions, and one of the free apps works much better. Don’t buy unless you have lots of time to try to learn the app.

Great app. The best just keeps getting better.

Great App. I always use this app prior to droning a project. Really helps to plan a day of photographing.

Works. I’ve used the desktop version before and this is basically the same thing so it’s great.

Doesn’t load sky fire even though paid subscription. Speaks for itself

Trust me, you need this app.. Anyone with any passing interest in landscape photography needs this app.

The best App I ever had!!!!. Spot on, it’s an accurate tool that one day I’ll wonder how did without it!!!

Go to. My “go to” for night sky photography

An incredibly useful app. I’ve been using this in all of my night shoots and find it indispensable!

Great Product!. Love using this app to plan out locations for Aurora spotting! It's very user friendly, easy to navigate.

Great tool for a photographer. I use this app all of the time.

Great too 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Love this tool, use it all the time for setting up landscape and wildlife shoots

Akamai. You folks are almost too smart. So much info, so concise, so quick.

Can't figure this out. Can't figure out how to use this at all. The user guide info and video tutorials are not helpful- just way over my head.

Always. I use it every day and love it !

Elevations. How are elevations determined? The numbers for various properties are off. In one case the center of a pond is 43' and the adjacent property is the same elevation even though the property land is approximately 10 feet higher.

Love this app. I use the app often to plan my photo outings.

Cannot set up new location. I am stuck with my home address. It will not give me the data for anywhere else.

The worst app I ever had. It is user unfriendly The manual is rather confusing and doesn’t match the app It’s nearly impossible to find the simplest functions

To confusing. All I want is to see when the light falls and what angle. This thing is hard to deal with all the lines and information. I can’t get it to go to the current time automatically. Even sending a review is a pain

Must have. The most useful app on my phone!

Very Useful App. Don’t leave home without it. And use it often BEFORE you head out for a shoot!
