Text is too small. The board game is fantastic, but I can’t read any of the text in the app! There should be a way to increase the font size!

Sadly No Longer the Best Game Ever for iOS. Updated review: With the July 2020 updates, I have to drop my rating. The game crashes 1 out of 10 times. It also freezes when the bots don’t know what to do, such as with heroic + halflings (not enough places to put heroic shields) or with sorcerers who run out of tiles. The game lags a lot too, which is sad because it used to run seamlessly. The bots are dumber than ever, sticking with a race for the entire game when they’re only scoring 3-4 points each round. It’s evident that Asmodee isn’t committed to making this a solid entry in their iOS gaming line. Other games by the developer are awesome and run very well. Please make the needed changes so the game returns to its former glory! I've played most of the Euro games available for the iPad. While many are good, I get bored of them too easily. Not with Small World. I can play it anytime and still enjoy it. Plus, the new update is amazing! Keep it up, Days of Wonder!

Great game but the AI cheats. I have, on multiple occasions, caught the AI player conquering territories not adjacent to one they control. No, they did not have the flying or underworld ability and they were not halflings or sorcerers on their first turn. I'm an experienced player who knows the rules of this game. This behavior by the AI is not allowed. This calls everything else into question as well - how many times does it count points incorrectly?

I didn't know what I was getting into.... Hi, this is my first review of an iPad app. I must say I purchased this app based on a couple of internet reviews that glowed about it. Initially, even having read the in game rules and started with the tutorial, I really still didn't grasp what was going on. There is no AI opponent, and I've yet to get someone to play with me, so I decided to do some more reading online. If you are like me and have never played Small World, I would recommend you follow the link in the app to the 'Board Game' and consume the information there. I also browsed several reviews, of both the app and the board game and came away with a much better understanding of how the game worked. However, still not able to convince anyone to play with me I started to play the game solo, playing both sides of the board, and I've found this to be a satisfying way to discover how game mechanics and strategies come into play. I'm actually really enjoying the 'Ah Ha!' moments as subtle strategies reveal themselves. When you finally get it it's easy to see the depth contained within the simplicity of the game. I've enjoyed my solo time with the game and look forward to teaching some friends and spreading the word. I would echo some of what people have said about adding AI, use of multiple devices / online play, and possibly allowing for more players and I hope the updates keep coming. For the price, I'm more than happy with my purchase. A fun and polished game!

Latest update relocked purchased dlc. The latest update relocked the Royal Bonus dlc that had previously been purchased and wants it to be paid for again.

Can’t play. I love this game in person and I’m so bummed it doesn’t work on my phone and I paid for the app! Whenever I log in it won’t log me in or keeps saying authenticating. Please help someone! I feel like I wasted my money….

Amazing game... One major problem. Updated: am I crazy ( don't answer that😉) or did the computer get way harder? I used to win games all the time. Now I haven't won in months and I play almost daily. Something change? Seems I get selective attacking on me or blue... Always blue, gets an unbeatable combination like sorcerer merchant or something. Old review still true: Why wouldn't there be a redo like something if you accidentally hit the done button before making any moves? No intent... Just a tablet touching error that tanks for entire game! Very annoying. Also annoying is not being able to set up log in even though you have contacted the developer. Wish this worked on iPhone and applet as well... But now I am getting picky. Don't miss this, smallworld 2 is the very best boardgame in the app store...period. Best variety in gameplay and highly captivating. But these gripes are legitimate.

Enjoying this and new to the game. I’m playing this on phone and it works good for the most part - it’s stable etc. One big flaw I’m running into is that there is no undo button. I have had most of my games ruined already because of little accidental bumps to end turn etc and no way to reverse that action. The buttons are extremely close to each other and it’s easy to hit the wrong button by mistake. That reverse decision feature would make it so much better. Other than that it’s fun.

Absolute Delight. I never played the actual board game but if you want a polished board game that is entertaining and contains just enough strategy then this is highly recommended. The amount of sheer combos of and ever present ability to switch combo characters on the fly adds endless possibilities. Presentation is awesome and user friendly. A great gem of an app. With the fast forward button, games are a mere 10-15 min and if you exit it's saved. I picked up Be not Afraid and can't wait to play it. I have not tried online multiplayer though so I can't speak to that. But solo games can be with bots or bots + other pass and play people.

Online asynchronous multiplayer is busted. The only way to set up an online asynchronous multiplayer game is… to start a game in the online arena, and then leave your phone open to this app, forever - until enough people join. Which never happens. So an asynchronous game requires synchronous joining / starting. Terrible design.

Thank you for 64-bit update!. This is a terrific game.

Online multiplayer currently not worth playing.. Since the last update when playing a multiplayer online game only the player who completes the game is able to view the results. Having to wait for someone else to tell you the results and hoping they relay the information correctly takes the enjoyment out of this game. Hopefully they will fix it soon. Won’t be playing it again until it is fixed.

Amazing - so happy you've added an expansion. Small World is easily in my top 3 favorite board games - BUT for it to be fun, you need 4-6 people and I only get to play the physical board game once or twice a year... but with this app and AI I can enjoy games all the time. Please keep adding expansions! (Sky Islands is a MUST) Also, please make Small World Underground available as a stand alone game! Thank you for the amazing update here!

v3 is buggier than ever. This game has always been buggy, but the latest forced update is unplayable. More than half of games crash or get stuck. Thank you for ruining a great game.

Love the Game. Hope to see new updates!. Family loves the game. It’s very competitive even against computer. Would love to see more updates as I have purchased all the expansions.

Crashes!!. Local player mode boots players out every time a play is made.

Wonderful Port. This is one of the best board game adaptations on my iPad. Everything flows smoothly. Access to the information on the races, special powers and other things are a click away while in the game. I can’t recommend this game enough.

Crashes every time. I love the game but this app consistently crashes near the end of each game I play locally, and it does not let me return to it, i have to start a new game…only for it to crash again. It’s very frustrating that i can’t finish a game.

Everyone’s Favorite (Ages 10-87). We take this game camping with us with my in-laws and the only down side is that seven people can’t play. We ALL love it! Our youngest was 10 when he first played and he’s now 14 and still can’t get enough. Our other two kids, 17 and 20, my wife and I, and my mother- and father-in-law (87) can easily get playing and laughing long past bedtime. We love the board game, too, but the app makes it super easy to keep track and to go fast enough that no one is ever bored. The extensions are a MUST. Once you get the hang of it, definitely add them in one at a time to keep the fun going. Especially once you have them all, the power + creature combos are endless.

Thank you for adding iPhone support.. It was LONG overdue. I hate to be one of “those people” and point out that the app expects me to pay for the Royal Bonus. I paid to put my name in the credits so you wouldn’t bother me with these types of things. Please put back access to the Royal Bonus that we’ve had since the SW2 Kickstarter campaign. Thanks! PS: I haven’t updated to 3.x on my iPad, and still have full access there. You broke something.

Great game!. I would give it five stars but the app closes out at random times. Otherwise the game is a lot of fun! Definitely want to pick up the hard copy now!

Online does not work. Got this game for online play and it does not work at all. If game has been abandoned, take off the Apple Store. Downloaded, had for 10 minutes, immediately need refund.

Fun game, issues with the app. A little clunky, with a “fast play” feature that can often cause you to skip your whole turn. Also have had issues where a game will disappear entirely from games list in the middle of playing.

Pretty boring. I gave it a few run throughs. It’s really borning and more meaningless trivia than strategy. You’re better off with a simple game of risk. Wish I could get a refund, that’s really the worst part of it that the developer doesn’t believe in this game enough to offer one after you look at the game. I played just a few games. Wish it were like Steam where if a game is stupid you can get your money back right away. Not here. I guess they know it’s not the greatest strategy game. It’s basically Risk with sequins and feathers glued on.

Sorry. Kinda boring.. The app is slick but the actual game mechanics just aren’t that interesting. Maybe it’s just not my thing personally but the entire drafting races and territory conquest felt more tedious than exciting and since that’s the core mechanic the whole experience was therefore just pretty meh to me. Like, why play this when you could play wingspan or Jaipur or 7 wonders… just one man’s take though, other people seem to think it’s fun.

Don’t waste your money. This game glitches so bad and the AI is ridiculously unbalanced, save your money.

Good implementation. The game overall works great when you are actually playing. However, when playing with friends, if a game ends when I’m not in gameplay, there doesn’t appear to be a way for me to re-enter the game and view the score. Did I win? Who knows.... Additionally, a large portion of ended games I seem to be unable to withdraw from so they stay on my game list indefinitely.

Update 3.0 = I can’t see current open games. I just updated to 3.0 and I can’t see my current open matches. I also noticed that the update allows for play on my iPhone, but it looks like I have to purchase the game and expansions again. That will not happen. I hope these glitches are fixed soon because before today this was a 4-5 star game.

Game is good when it works. I enjoy the game and the digital version is very true to the board game version. Unfortunately, they don’t seem to be updating the app anymore (last update was a year ago) and many bugs are creeping into the app. Turns get lost, games disappear…. It’s a mess. You should wait to purchase until they start to update again.

Over 200 online games in!. This is one of my favorite board games. The app is exactly what you want if you're a Small World fan. Little to no bugs - all races and classes work as expected. Expansions are reasonably priced, but you can have lots of fun without them. My only complaint is you can't add AI to a local network game. The reason this bugs me is my wife and I like to play each other on our own tablet. No AI means we can only play 2p, which if you've played the game you know is not ideal. They recently updated for 64-bit so the future of this app looks solid.

My fave board game. App is Great game but a little buggy

Where is the undo button?. It’s very easy to accidentally click something on your turn. Example decline or moving q piece, so why is there no undo button?

Issues with update. Have loved this game for a long time. Am disappointed that the update to 3.0 erased my high-score board. And the race selection board is now needlessly smaller. The animation of stealing victory coins (for Ransacking) seems to be broken.

Have to repurchase??. Apparently they released this for the iPhone now, but regardless of owning the iPad version already I now have to repurchase it in order to play on the phone...

Boring waste of money. I really want my money back, the tutorial wasn’t helpful, and the game got boring

Constant crashing. Why do you people have to “improve” things. Constant crashing when first run on my iPad Air is OK? I wish I had never updated. If I could give ZERO stars I would have.

Bots are insanely difficult. PLEASE give us a difficulty setting for the bots. I don’t want to take the time to play another person or I’d just play my physical copy. The bots are so insanely hard and they seem to attack the human player way more often than they attack each other. I’m no god at this game but I’m pretty decent and I’m just getting wrecked by these bots.

Great Game which crashes on iPad port. I like the port, but I wish it didn’t crash every 20 minutes. Also an undo feature would be nice.

Just as fun as the boardgame!. It has been years since my friends and I used to play Smallworld boardgame and had a blast. This mobile version is just as good maybe even better with how quick and easy it is to get into a game and how user friendly the whole UI is. Highly recommend to anyone who’s a fan of fantasy and world domination type game! Very satisfied✌️

Good game, but notifications aren’t working. A couple of days ago I and one of my friends that I play regularly with stopped receiving push notifications for Small World.

Omg, it’s on my phone. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been a fan of the game since it’s original version, Vici. I always hoped for an iPhone version. Ahhhh...

Hmmm. Nice graphics, but I’m new to this game. Frankly, the tutorial video wasn’t very helpful. Please, please create a tutorial mode to help those of us who are new to the game! It would also be great to be able to see as I’m trying to conquer a place how much it takes to overtake that region and how things are scored each round, rather than just a total.

nope. This is the same thing they ported unchanged and dumped on Steam as abandonware.

Game breaking glitch. Don’t buy this. There is a glitch where you can no longer log in to play multiplayer.

My favorite game. Absolutely love Small World

Great Board game, great app. I am really enjoying this game and learning better how to play the board game to teach to others.

Lame and with little to no help. As an experienced gamer, two of us found the game rules odd and obtuse. How can you decide on a strategy when you can nail down the rules? There is a brief and generic tutorial, but besides that, we were SOL. After an hour of frustration we deleted the game. What a waste!

Fun game to play. The game itself is pretty fun to play. The iPad version is great for lockdown since its super easy to get back in game when it’s my turn again. The game devs are also surprisingly responsive to bug reports, and has a bug fix for an issue I saw in a matter of days.

terrible. doesnt work, overly complicated, don’t waste your money

Too glitchy. My family and I love this game however after purchasing the base game and a couple expansions the game is too glitchy. It will skip peoples turns or will get stuck on turns and not let you play your attacking pieces etc. etc.

Please fix player mode. As someone mentioned before, the game is really enjoyable (I'm going to buy the board game soon enough), but after buying the expansion races and powers, the option to switch from face-to-face to side-by-side play is gone, and I'd really prefer it if I could choose which way to play.

Board game to iPad - Success!. This is a great implementation of one of my favorite board games. The game play is intuitive even for new players and the graphics are brilliant. AI seemed lacking after winning first 3 solo games, although the Bot currently has 7 of the top 10 positions on the high score table. Of course, I now think the AI is just fine... ;). Cursed and Grand Dames expansions provide some nice variety. Love the additional animation associated with the were- special power. Will be interested to see whether leaders and Tales and Legends expansions follow. I'll buy them if they do. Two player has a different dynamic than the 3-5 player games and would love to see Days of Wonder try to support larger maps and more players. Hopefully, this is the first of many successful board game to iPad translations.

Brilliant adaptation. Awesome adaptation of the original board game, my only negative, the AI is too difficult to beat, on the tabletop version which i love, i have a pretty good win rate no matter how many players, on this digital version, i lose 90% of the time. and it does take away from the longer term playability a bit. otherwise, AWESOME!

Awesome. Fantastic transition from board game to iPad. The game plays amazing with the different races and looks great. But just like everyone else has said....MORE PLAYERS AND BIGGER MAPS. Make the changes and make this game AMAZING. for the big price tag it has give the people what they want.

Tutorial is so bad it makes the game unplayable. Having never played this board game before, I bought the app to see if it might be something we’d like. However the tutorial is so useless that I still have no idea how to play the game. Sure, you choose your unique race with special powers, try to take over areas of the board, send your race into decline at some opint panda bring on a new one, and get points for each area you control. I got that much. But how many tiles of my race can I put onto each area, and why? How do I take over areas that are controlled by other players? Why can’t I put my pieces in some areas? How do I actually go about sending race into decline? None of these questions are answered in the tutorial, so although I have a general overview of what the game is about, I still have absolutely no idea how to play it. People who have played the physical board game might have the answers to some of these questions, but not all (ie they still won’t know what button to click to send a race into decline etc). But I honestly do not understand how anyone who has not played before could even complete a game if this tutorial is all they have to go on.

Animations to fast. Great game but I'm new to it, so the animations are to fast to know what's going on

More maps and online play & fix screen rotation. Please add online play so I can play with friends overseas. Also more maps would be good. 2 player map is getting boring. Please fix the screen rotation. When I play with my friend the second player has a hard time looking at everything upside down.

Game Authorisation Issue. The game will not complete authorisation and does not load with friends.

Excellent!!. Love it!

Once you get it, it’s brilliant.. Super fast, great and challenging gameplay that tests strategies every turn. Have only been playing the base game without expansions so far it’s quirks and random styled gameplay keeps you on your toes each time.

History repeating. The same comments as most. Great game, gets old without online, other boards, more players, more add ons, etc...

Addicted. I picked up this game after reading an article that mentioned it as a good example of a board game to iPad transition. Having never played the board game I didn't know what to expect got off to a bumpy start but a couple of games in and I was hooked, playing it until the battery went flat on my iPad. I plugged in the iPad and handed the game to my son and headed out. I got back a few hours later and we began to play the two player variant. Now we play regular sets (best of five) and I've ordered the original board game. A couple of things I'd like to see. - Game Center integration - Remote play - More maps - More players Add a couple of these things I'll be petitioning apple to add a sixth star so I can truly express how good I think this game is.

Tutorial doesn't work. Even after deleting and downloading the app a couple of times, the tutorial doesn't work so I have no idea how to play.

Why only two-player mode???. I've played the boardgame version many times and love it, so I immediately bought the app version upon discovering it. Unfortunately, the app version only supports two-player games, which aren't nearly as interesting or fun as the larger games. I suppose they are limiting the app to incentivise people to purchase the boardgame, but I think they should accept the fact that the digital front is more popular. I hope the update the game to allow more players soon. I would even be willing to pay for it! It is still a good game, but with only two player mode it feels more like a bad demo that costs money rather than the full game.

Good game. Love this game but there is no sound even with everything turned on

Five Star app, but.... Really time for some extra juice as it's running a little dry. Some more add ons please. Three or four players would be great, but I'll settle for an extra map, and some add on cards. Happy to pay to extend this great game past the two add ons.

Excellent game. This is a great implementation of an excellent game. Two problems, though: on initial install it gives you the option of choosing to play across the table (where it flips the board around between turns automatically) or side-by-side (where you pass the ipad from person to person). However since installing the two expansions my game has been stuck in across-table mode. Also, it REALLY needs an undo option, at least to the last die roll, or alternatively a means of manually triggering die rolls. It is very easy to move tokens to places where you do not intend to move them, or miss a critical step eg placement of bivouac tokens.

Seriously lacking options!!. This game doesn't even have an options menu, and its the same game over and over again... Very repeatative and eventually quite boring. Would love options like being able to change/turn off the music (gets on my nerves after a while), being able to modify the length of the game (10 turns just isnt enough sometimes), being able to change the number of players (seriously 2 gets boring after a while) and maybe even being able to change the board itself. This isnt a good adaptation of board game to ipad like other reviews say. Ive seen far better adaptations of games.... This app is very limited. I'll add one star to my review for every feature mentioned that is implemented, because thats what would be needed for 5 stars!

Great boardgame adaption. This is a great example of how to adapt a board game. It handles all the fiddly bits of playing (and makes looking up rules and race/power abilities simple), while still preserving the fun inherent to the game. It's much more convenient than carrying around a box, and has resulted in me playing this a lot more often than I do actual boardgames. A must buy for any avid board gamer and a great introduction to board games beyond scrabble & monopoly for anyone else. I've one request for the designers: please add the larger 3+ player map. it's all that holds it back from being 5 stars

We love updates.... Beautifully done. Intriguing game, and good fun, but the board gets a little small. Expansions are a plus, but An option to vary or expand the board would be nice...

Great. This is my fav iPad game. It is a great adaptation of the board game. The fact that the details such as set-up and the mechanics are automated and don't have to be manually managed makes it a game I play a lot more than I would if it was a physical board game. It also means its a lot quicker to play. Love it.

Good but missing a key feature.. If you've ever played Small World as a board game, you will instantly love this game, as I did. It is faithful to a tee. However, it is missing a key feature which I hope will be addressed in future updates. Specifically speaking, I mean that you only have the choice of using the same two player map, over and over again. This means that the games you play will only be either You vs. a Friend or You vs. Computer. The same two player map over and over starts to get a bit stale. A future update would do well to allow for more players (human and computer) and the ability to use the bigger 5 to 6 player maps. Being able to play games with friends via the internet would be great too. All in all this is a great game, and could easily be a five star product if it added the above features. Until then, 3 stars will have to do.

Great! Needs more than 2 players though. Unless you hate money, please add a version with more players. Make it an in app purchase and I'll insta-buy!

Small World keeps getting better!. I've had this game for 2 years and, unlike almost every other iPad game I've downloaded, I still enjoy playing regularly. I had never played the boardgame before downloading this app, but there is an excellent tutorial that will explain it all. You don't need to read pages of rules! They've added many features recently, including online multiplayer (asynchronous or live) and up to 5 players. The community online is active and I've had good experience finding opponents. The base game has heaps of variety and you don't need to buy the expansion packs, but you might want to if you fall in love with the game, like I did.

Addictive but Annoying. Despite clever game play and high production values this title offers limited options and inconsistent rewards. You can't , for example, replay a game if things are going pear shaped and the competition is maxed out at 2 players.Sometimes the factions don't seem to give the right amount of victory points but this may be because of the clumsy way the rewards are worded. My favorite is the "non empty space".They mean occupied, right?!

Quick and fun. This game looks a bit complicated when you first play it, but you soon start to learn how all the races work and it quickly becomes a great, fun board game that I keep coming back to.

Hard to find game info. OK, where do you find basic game info? I tried to find out my opponent's racial powers, by clicking on the board tokens, or the race/power tokens, but nothing! I had to go and dig out my boardgame and look up the rules. Would really be nice to support more players. Otherwise, the implementation is good, but I don't have a feel for the current game state as I do when playing the board game.

PLEASE READ THIS. Great game! Just need a few more maps to choose from cus the same map can get kinda boring, it's still an AMAZING GAME. I would rate it 5 stars. PLEASE MAKE MORE MAPS FOR ME!

Awesome. This is an awesome game. Just as good as the board game version. It would be better if you could play online, or if it had more than 2 players...still a ripper game!

Stupid AI, limited gameplay. Zerg and you always win, very limited game play on this 2 player map even with both add ons. AI is very stupid, would need a full rewrite. I'm keen to help rewrite it if you need help.

Great but Missing. Grabbed this on the back of the fact thatTicket to Ride is so good. I had not payed before and I am enjoying learning to play the game. I love the complexity and variance per game with races and abilities. Fun and looking forward to teaching someone else to play. BUT: I was very disappointed there is NO Bluetooth, network or online play! Major bummer in my opinion. Be aware too that this is a 2 player only variant of the game. This doesn't make it a bad game but both these are glaring omissions. The games enjoyable and fun and a good laugh. Worth getting but the price tag kinda demands the 2 identified additions. DEVELOPERS: at least add network play and preferably online play PLEASE! I don't mind keeping the 2 player but that should be the priority in my opinion.

Upside down.... Who was the stupid who decided to put the map and tiles upside down for the second player? It is frustrating to look at the map and tiles upside down! Why can't they just stay the same direction for both? This is really lazy work!

Lots of fun. Game looks great and plays very well. One of the best on my iPad. An easy recommendation.

Awesome game. Awesome game but you should really get more upgrade packs for the game that you can buy.

Fabulous game in real life and as an app. Perfect port from the board game to the iPad! I'm thrilled with the latest updates filling most of my wish list including a decent AI and leader board. I've deducted a star from my previous reviews only because in my opinion 1.99 for each expansion is too much, but I'm hoping they might go on sale. The base game is well worth the money and I don't mind leaving the expansions for when I'm playing in real life. I'm looking forward to the potential of other upcoming updates which rumor is may include more players. An addictive game that never ceases to entertain me and results in squeals of how mean I am from my wife :)

Best iPad game I've played.. I bought this at 6PM and accidentally played it until 4AM.... It's good, especially if you own the board game. And the AI is killer.

Needs longer tutorial. Not a very thorough tutorial. For someone who knew nothing on how to play the game, a better walk through would've been nice.

Priestess bug. Awesome app! I've only noticed 2 things wrong. 1. A crash bug 2. When priestesses convert in a tower, if any of them were on a mountain, that mountain disappears and the area is treated as normal land for the remainder of the game.

Amazing!. Seriously, This is so addicting, it seemed hard to get into the game at the beginning but after a few games, you'll completely fall for it! The theme is quite smart and well done and each new game is different because of the many combinations out there. The two player version is very competitive. Well, best strategy game, it's even better than ticket to ride!

Bad app for a great game. Small world is a great game this app doesn't do it justice. It needs 5 player support and most importantly LAN support! I play with my husband and we like to have a few bots in as well. also I don't want to pass the ipad back and forth when we each have our own! when playing only against bots it shouldn't turn upside either, it's super annoying. AI could also be improved its not very challenging.

Fantastic game... with room for improvement. This game is lots of fun, especially after playing a few games to get a sense of the strategy involved. I held off in buying this game for months since it was limited to just two players and can't help but wonder if that's what's keeping it out of the top 25 in the AppStore. Despite this limitation, this game is still an excellent purchase and definitely worth the money. Hopefully it will updated in the near future so that 4 players can play.

Plz fix how the AI use the heroic ability.. It will be nice if you could Make AI place the heroic token first or something. It is very annoying to see AI place 5 race tokens on one region and then, because of the heroic token, the AI will move all the tokens to other regions one by one. Other than this it is a nice game.

Giants ability. Giants do NOT have the cost of 1 less Giant token adjacent to mountains.

Excellent board game for iPad. Great game play with a pretty good AI. As you get better you can set your personal winning margins at +10 or +20 over the AI score. Purchase of in-app expansions adds much variety. Also works very well with two players face-to-face. Highly recommended for board game players.

Perfect. Never played the board game, but this version is really a lot of fun. Very polished and creative, well done!

Good game.. make it for iPhone, too!!. It's really great to have this game! I really enjoy it! But please try to make it for iPhone/iPodTouch, too!! Look at the Carcassone!! It is compatible on both iPad & iPhone/iPod Touch !! Overall, a nice game!!!

All around disappointing!. Very poor value for the big $6.99 cost!!! The "reverse game board" approach is just plain annoying. There is only 2 player against CPU; where is the online multiplayer or 3/4 player support??? Then they ask an additional $1.99 per expansion!?!? Go with the free dominion app, ticket to ride, or Tigris and Euphrates for WAY better value and strategy! I wish I could get my $ back and I'm a HUGE board game/strategy fanatic!!

Frustré.. To be honest i would like a refund. It s the first time i hate a Game like that. Sorry. But i think its Not worth It.

Needs some new features. It’s honestly a good game it’s just that’s there’s no online play because nobody plays it and when you wanna play single player it’s to hard and you can’t change the difficulty of the AI/bots it just need some fixing and improvements overall I would like a refund

Très bonne mise à jour. Plus besoin de sortir la version boite du jeu. Avez-vous remarqué deux nouveaux peuples (Igors et Sylves) présents dans les règles mais qui n apparaissent pas dans le jeu ?

Terrible. Don't buy it. Glitchy game. Also, it's non-refundable, but they don't tell you that either.

A must!. Highly addictive. Great replay value. Very polished. Recommended for gamer and non-gamer alike.

No review after game end?. The previous version you were able to see the coins stack up and see who won. This version doesn't have that replay or any option to view who won the game you were just playing. I was playing a 4 player game with friends, and the only notification I got from the game is "game finished". No telling who won, no coins stacking, nothing. No option for review at all. Please change this.

It's not deep. At all.. If you've never played this game don't get swept up by the reviews. It may sound like there's a lot of depth but the "strategy" is really one dimensional. Every turn is pretty much the same thing. Excitement doesn't ever build up. Actually got frightfully bored after a dozen turns when I realize there really is not going to be much more to it than this. Regretted the purchase. Will never play this again. Might be fun for more the casually inclined player. But there really is nothing to this game. Yawn inducing boredom.

Phenomenal. Easiest 5-star rating I've ever given.

A great update to a great game. If you own the physical board game, this is a great way to master the game's tactics. This update makes the game even better, polishing up the game play and adding the first of (hopefully) many updates. Plus the addition of online play means you can now play against friends!

sloppy app of a great board game. This app has a "2" on the end of its name to distinguish it from the awful original Small World app, but this version has its own bugs and bad design choices. The "tutorial" is a Youtube video. You can still READ the rules without wifi, but there's a two-second delay (on the newest iPad!) and graphical glitches when switching between topics. There are many different potential combinations of powers to keep track of, but no error messages to explain WHY you aren't allowed to make an illegal move. (Would it have been so difficult to just TELL me that I needed to have race tokens left to place my dragon?) The die rolls are perfect, but the scoring is SLOW and it's not clear enough where each point is coming from. (The new version lets you skip scoring and AI turns, but then you miss important info.)

Great game!!!. Awesome game, really good port of a board game and challenging ai. Was hesitant to spend the $7 but haven't put it down for a few days now with each game having such different combinations. One issue that needs to be addressed is the game crashed once you finish while using the cursed expansion. Another great addition would be to have multiple ai during the same game, and possibly a difficultly option for the ai like catan. Regardless, I'd recommend to anyone who was like me on the fence before I bought! You won't be disappointed!!!!!!

Never heard of the board game, so maybe it's just me.. All the reviews are raving-awesome-chocolate-flavoured-with-a-cherry. I just want to say to all of you that have never heard of Small World the board game, don't bother getting this game just because those that played it in the basement of the library now love to play it online. If you didn't play it before, you will probably regret the seven bucks you paid to play it now.

Too complicated. Nice art but gameplay is way too compacted.

Amazing game!!. Just awesome! I need and I want more. Would like to play up to 4 or 8 people instead of just 2. Otherwise, it's just a fabulous game, and addictive one...

Good but missing somethig. With the real boardgame we can play more than 2 players, it would be good if we could in the iPad version too.

Great game. We own and love the board game. This is great as it takes care of all of the record keeping and setup and clean up, meaning faster games and thus more of them. Suggestion: please add a way to view the available races from the map. Often it is helpful to see upcoming races when choosing the right time to go into decline.

A nice little package. A good stable little app with a great game inside. I would like to see it offer online multiplayer through Game Center (async would really rock) or more than 2 players per game on a single iPad but beyond those frequent wants the game is really enjoyable.

Good art and a fun game to learn.. I really like this game. It is a good way to try out the small worlds board game. The AI is a decent challenge although not frustrating. I would recommend it without reservation. Online play would be a nice addition.

Authenticating Issues. Small World is a mostly solid implementation of a great board game, but of late it has become somewhat glitchy. At present, I cannot play online games because it is stuck in a continual “Authenticating” loop (note that the Steam version still appears to be working, so this problem seems iOS specific). The problem has persisted for several days now. I have also had recent problems where an active game disappears from the list, or a previous game turn reappears. I love the game, but these issues are becoming rather frustrating. Update: The glitch was fixed, but not for long. It’s back and as frustrating as ever! I’d love to actually be able to play the game I paid for. Very disappointing lack of customer service by the developer.

The bugs ruin the enjoyment. Love the board game and thought the application looked great. Sadly, we are finding a lot of bugs. Hardly a game goes by without someone losing a turn without playing it. In the four-person round we just tried, one player got three turns in the time another player got none. It just skipped right by them. Single player mode is the only mode the works consistently

Online is lacking. This is easily the most frustrating app I've ever gotten. It's one of the best board games out there, but I only get to finish about 6/10 games because the rest either timeout, freeze, kick me out because the game timer still runs while counting your score, etc. This is my online experience however, which seems to be a common complaint though amongst the at best 8 other people you find playing online. Which can cause a bit of a wait to actually play an online game in the first place.the solo and pass and play are fine and it is a solid game, just way to buggy online for a $10 app. I'm updating my review as the online seems to have somehow gotten worse. It seems like every other game is crashing now. Please fix the online. It's just unplayable most of the time now

Why just 2 player?. I play the board game and bought this as well. The game is very well done, but why is it only two player? Please make it like the board game to support up to five players. Online play would be great too. As it is I feel like I got a slimmed down version. I want to be able to play on the bigger maps.

Awesome. Thanks! Greatly improved over old version.

Great Game. Needs an update.. I love this game, and this app is a great version. Well animated and fun. The version 2 is great, but I've had 2 games freeze already today near the end and it is frustrating. Maybe it's certain combos since there are thousands to test. I hope they find these bugs and fix with an update. Also, nice to have the expansions, but they are a bit of a premium cost. After buying and supporting app, with add ons were a bit cheaper. Thanks.

Great title. Needs in-game sound and language settings.. Amazing little app. Nice for when you are on the road. What I'd like to see is in-game sound and language settings. Should be able to listen to iPod while playing.

Good but needs some tweaking. I never played the original board game but since I am a big fan of those types of games, I went on and bought it. The game itself is addictive and very fun to play. I would recommend it to anyone in strategy board games. On the bad side, I would say it need some tweaking. The dice is obviously not random and will show the infamous blank side way more often than the it technically should (I spent full games getting exclusively blank rolls). Also, the AI will sometime make very odd decisions; taking the and being stucked in North-West sea while the two shore regions are undefeatable (Declined White Ladies or halflings holes). He will stay there and let me drift into an easy win.

Favourite board game next to risk!. Two player is fun, but playing the actual board game with 5 people is a riot. Would make the iPad version even better to be able to play with more than 1 other person. Great fun as the game stands right now.

Great update, poor network gaming. It's a great update to an already excellent game, but the network play is poor and buggy. The expected wait time to play a network game is completely bogus, the ratings aren't shown half the time, and there's a crash almost every game. Please, please fix these issues - they are so frustrating in a game that has so much potential.

Better not get obliterated BUG. Great game. But there are several crash bugs, and one that doesn't let you go in decline or choose a new race if your active race goes extinct (gets obliterated).

Local multi player doesn’t work. Local multi player doesn’t work, tried multiple iPads, no go. Other local multi player games like Minecraft and ticket to ride work fine.

Amazing!. So much fun. Would love 3-5 player and more expansions.

Terrible interface gave us a headache. Could be a good game in here but one major problem gives it one star: The game forces you to sit opposite sides of the iPad, and for one player the map and pieces are always upside down. Who's brilliant idea was this? I buy all the board games and this is the first one that gave us a headache. Constantly had to flip the iPad around when taking turns and still one player has to read the map and opposing player pieces upside down. I appreciate the exercise but this not what I bought it for. Why is there a picture called 'travel mode' of a couple sitting next to each other in the set up screen? That implies you have a choice for viewing mode but there is none. No options screen! Was only able to play barely one game with the wife before she got a headache from having to look at the upside down map and tiles. MY view was normal so I totally understood why she got fed up with the game. For an expensive $8 app, (when I told her what I paid for the game she was incredulous after being forced to play it upside down) I expect to be able play it comfortably, in normal side by side mode, with the map and all pieces easy to read for 2 players. Could be a good game in here but we'll never know because we deleted it after a half hour of the forced orientation. Who sits on opposite sides of an iPad for a two player board game? Hello? Most couples sit NEXT to each other. At least give us a choice! This is the first I've ever seen a board game that doesn't keep the board in normal view and I have bought all the top board game adaptions in the app store. Would have complained directly about this to days of wonder but they don't even have an email on their website. Refund being processed.

J. Excellente adaptation du jeu de table. Aucun bug, que du plaisir!

Too limited. I love the small world board game. But this game has quickly bored me. It's disappointing that it is missing the 4-5 player board and is limited to only 2 player games. On the board game, the 2 player map is for 3 players also. But that is not an option in this app.. I have hope that there will be an update but so far I have owned the game for 3 months and there hasn't been anything new added. I was also hoping for the underworld version but nothing yet. Overall, I would recommend the app version, but if you are familiar with the board game, then be prepared to be a little disappointed.

Worth every penny!. This is the kind of game that someone would easily pay around 30 dollars for if it was an actual board game. The best part is, the iPad version is more compact, quick, and easy to play than a physical board game could ever be. This makes the iPad version not only cheaper, but overall MORE enjoyable. I think this game is worth every penny and is a blast to play. If the app developer can keep updates coming with new races and powers, then this ill clearly be the best board game on the iPad.

Fun with people. After watching small world on Table Top, I really wanted this game. Being new to the game (even after watching a show about how to play) I found the AI brutal. The game needs a bot that gets harder as you play along. Not one that wipes out all your tokens in game 2 because you have no feel for the game yet, and your not sure how strategy works. The minimal information given in the tutorial mode is not very helpful. A full complete set of rules would be advantageous to newbies. A bots and tutorials need improvement. I know I'm missing some key components of strategy, that my gamer friends would be happily explaining to me if I was learning from them. Also where can I turn off the annoying music? When I click on the music note all I get is an empty Sorcerers screen. I was excited about getting this game but I don't think I will be upgrading to the board game any time soon.

Great Game - hours of 2 player fun. I've been addicted to this game! Biggest problem has been finding people to play with who have as insatiable of an appetite for small world as I do. Hoping for some online play soon! One major bug that i've discovered is associated with the wealthy special ability. Although it looks as if the +7 victory coins are part of the total earned at the end of the round of play, they are not added correctly and are not accounted for under the victory coin marker in later rounds. We have just manually added the 7 points at the end of each game to make up for this bug. I'm sure many have not noticed this bug and it may have affected the outcome of your games. Should be an easy fix... Please update ASAP. Even with that flaw the game is five stars for sure! Update: found another bug in the scoring system where pillaging orcs victory coins were not totaled correctly. Again, the points were displayed correctly at the end of a turn but the total sum displayed at the end of the game was WAY off. Until the scoring system is bug free you're better off tracking totals with pen and paper. (This takes the element of surprise winner out of the game though)

Excellent Game. Epic Fail Scoring BUG!. I love Smallworld. It is by far my favorite board game EVER! The game rocks and should be a killer app on the iPad. Unfortunately, the scoring is flawed. Even in this most recent version, the game neglects to score special ability points. We didn't figure this bug out until just recently when we began manually scoring after some strange end results. Yup, the scoring is flawed making all the games we've played in the past month completely null and void. If they fix this bug, we've got a 4 star game. If they add AI, they'd get like a google stars, but alas, I don't see that coming anytime soon. C'mon, Days of Wonder, pull your head out of your Memoir '44 and get your Ticket to Ride on Smallworld before everyone thinks your are some half-bottomed game company.

So close to perfect. This game is so fun it's kind of scary. It loads AMAZINGLY fast. I have never seen an app start that quickly. Really, the nits I have are minor. First, I hate it when the computer picks the Gypsies race or Bivouacking power because the placement animations are so slow. An option to speed up the computer's phase would be appreciated. Second, there is no way (that I can find) to quit a game in progress. You need to put it in the background, relaunch, and tap NO when asked to continue. Third, the graphic for the die is a tad low-rez when it zooms in. Finally, some form of online play would be nice. I'd give it four and a half stars if I could.

Games freezes and crashes. I was enjoying this game quite a bit. We got the board game for Christmas, and then I discovered that, like Ticket to Ride, WoW offered an iPad version. However, after playing for a couple of weeks, the game has started freezing and crashing. It is now impossible to get past turn 7 of the game. The first sign of trouble was that the game slowed down quite a bit. The freezing and crashing started shortly thereafter. More than a year ago, I remember that Ticket to Ride was slowing down and acting a bit funny, but WoW seemed to address these problems quickly with an upgrade. Unfortunately, it appears that the crashing in Small World has been a problem for some time, and WoW has not updated the game in years, so I recommend you stay away, at least until WoW posts an upgrade dated January 2013 or later. Otherwise, you will be wasting your money.

Solid Update. The devs finally listened and added options for more time between plays in async online. Now I can actually play without feeling like I'm tethered to my iPad. Another choice feature is the addition of in-game chat. They will get the final star from me when they fix the notification bug that says it's still my turn when I just took mine. Not a major problem - I just have to tap it again to open the app and it goes away, but the 2 step process seems redundant. Previous Review: This game is superb, but for some reason the devs decided that 48 hours should be the maximum amount of time that you can take between turns online. It's utter madness. But it IS Days of Wonder: the team that gave you Ticket to Ride with no async online iPad multiplayer, then created a new, different app for iPhone WITH async multiplayer, then created a new separate app for the Europe expansion for iPhone... etc. Looks like they're still drinking the funny kool-aid.

Great game, glitchy app. The boardgame translates well to app play but DoW has some work to do to smooth out the app itself. Several glitches persist and create unanticipated exceptions or hindrances to action options, the app locks up about one out of ten times and frequently closes out at game end without showing the final score. On the whole well worth the base cost and the expansions add terrific variety. A five star game that gets four due to flawed execution -- but a solid app start for DoW and based on their past performance in boardgames and online I anticipate great things from them in the future. Bring on TTR, Memoir '44 and BattleLore!

It's an addicting world after all. This game is insanely addicting. It's forced me to get the actual board game as well! I love this game, my kids love this game, and so have my friends that I have shown it to. Please, get the Be Afraid expansion loaded I here! A couple of things to note for players experienced with the board game already...this is not a 100% implementation of the original. It is a 2 player, local play only. The only things really missing are the larger maps and the Diplomatic power. Everything else does appear to be here. New players....go to the Days of Wonder website and download the PDF of the rules for this game. I picked it up pretty quick, but there was a couple of occasions I didn't understand something and reading the original rules helped me a lot. This game would be 6 star if: Multiplayer - more then 2 players and get it online or wifi/bluetooth like on Ticket to Ride. More expansions - There are some more expansions to the board game....add them here, Stronger AI - but add selectable difficulty to make it easier for new players to play (I still see the AI pulling bonehead things like leaving 1 token next to sorcerers and reinforcing a distant area instead) Hero Tokens - Please make the AI drop heroes first and the race tokens second. Currently, it's race tokens, heroes, then watch the AI move tokens out of hero territories. Oh, did I mention that the art is absolutely gorgeous???

A Great Strategy Board Game. I love board games, but the problem is I often can't find people to play with or have the time to play. Small World allows you to play a strategy board game by yourself or with another person. I really want to give this game 5 stars, but knowing that the actual board allows up to 5 players with more maps is keeping the game at a four, for now. Some have mentioned that the game freezes up sometimes. I've only experienced that once, and I play it all the time. It hasn't been a huge issue, but should be addressed. Please increase the number of players and maps and I this game should receive 6 stars! Great work on the game, it's a lot of fun!

Great game. This game is Highly strategic and fun and this 2-player version does a great job of representing it. However, there are a few issues that drag the score down. 1) the music player seems to be broken. 2) there is a bug where if the ipad rotates the screen, the current player's control bar ends up on the top of the screen and you cannot interact with it. Annoying when you pass the pad around. As the only solution is a reset. 3) price. Yes i paid the $11 bucks for the game + expansions, that's too much for the average user who doesnt know the game. Make a thinner version with less races and abilities and sell that for $1.99 or even .99 or heck, free. so beginners can "try". 4) tutorial: awful awful awful..... 5) screen rotation scheme.. Makes you dizzy playing side by side, the computer picks races upside down- hey! I wanna see what he picks. 6) no abiliy to check the capabilites of the opponents race and ability.. When you click their race it should let you go to the info screen. 7) request: allow players to select the house rule "no dice", meaning, there are no random rolls to conquer other than berserk.

Poorly executed. I have not played the board game but heard good things, so I purchased this app. The first thing you notice is the tutorial is a video. I play at work where I can tap the screen and read but cannot watch a video. Next, it is almost as though they expect you to purchase the physical game if you want to know what is going on. The rules section is vague and missing pei do. From what I understand I was supposed to have a total troops equal to the two numbers on my face and power cards, as my opponent did, but always seemed to have less. Part of a strategy game is planning ahead, but with vague rules that seemed to change randomly, I was never able to win past the first game. Pass on this game and go for a game you are more familiar with, I know I wish I had.

Well worth it. Bought this as my first purchase for my iPad as it is one of my favorite DOW boardgames. It doesn't disappoint. Excellent artwork, the play is fluid and easy and choosing races is much easier in this version as the power descriptions are right there (no need to look them up). While there are a few "glitches" at times, it is very clear that the staff at DOW is constantly looking to eliminate these. The fact that they are coming up with AI for the game and I am sure at one point online/wifi play get me even more excited. The tutorial is great to teach newbies, especially since all of the mechanics are done for you so the focus can really be on the game. This is my first review I have written for any app (I have about 60) because I have felt inspired to do so. If you are thinking about the $4.99 price tag (or soon to be $6.99), think no longer. Buy it! You won't be disappointed.

what is needed in next update. Great Great Game --- I just took my Ipad to a game convention this past weekend and had to keep recharging the ipad because of all the teaching games i ran through it. Smallworld the boardgame is an excellent game, but if you want to hurry and show your opponent how to play then spending 20 minutes using this app is excellent. The next update to the game is going to include a decent ai for single player and to be able to play 2 other opponents. But to the makers of this app I need to relay a very important feature --- when a mistake is made there needs to be a go back button, maybe even with the approval of the other players as well, but for teaching others how to play sometimes they mistakenly place their counters in a less advantageous territory or they fail to find the decline option button.

The developers keep improving this... all thats left is AI, which they say is coming soon!. This game recreates the board game experience pretty accurately, i have reviewed this twice and now am revising it since they updated it... The problem with this game is that this is still just a direct port of a board game on a digital platform without all the time and effort spent to make it a complete digital experience. Imagine if the scrabble or wordswithfriends app required them to be sitting next to you, FAIL. This app needs either an AI or it needs internet based multiplayer, preferably both. As it stands now its not playable for me since when i have friends over i bust out the real board game, which supports up to 5 players. I hope they keep updating and add ai or network support. I would pay an in app purchase add-on of another 5 bucks just to be able to play this game multiplayer or versus ai. Pleeeeeeease add them asap!!!

A truly enjoyable game. This is a really fun game that takes about 15min to play once you get the hang of it. Some have argued it gets repetitive but due to the variety of the random races and attributes, each game feels different. Since games run quick, it is also addicting. AI is brutal until you get a feel for the races n attributes and know how to use them. Also, since I have learned to abandon regions at times before attacking, the game is beatable. I win a lot now but will still lose if I make poor choices. I do not feel I was cheated when I lose. Winning is satisfying as there are several strategy choices to make in order to win such as: choosing a race, using the right tactics for your chosen race, when to spread thin vs hold your current ground, and when to decline your race. Rules included only give procedural instruction but a Google search will provide strategy guides for the board game which assisted this newbie. Although this game is fun in the current format, similar to other reviews, I would welcome the opportunity to play 3 or 4 player games and hope an update will feature this challenge. This is an expensive app, but one I really enjoyed. I feel it was worth the cost.

Smallworld, what Risk should be. If you like Risk you will like this game, a lot shorter play, better playing game. Good two human players or one human and an AI player, port of this board game. Thanks for not making the screen scroll like some other games. Do wish the vendor would put in a link to a cheat sheet with each of the races and special powers that you can print. Yes you can print the PDF manual, but I don't need the instructions. You can open a popup with the races and powers but easier to learn and refer from a hardcopy.

AI is not fun at all. I like the game quite a bit, but it does have some flaws in design. Specifically I've noticed that the AI plays like a chess player and treats the game as a purely abstract zero-sum "puzzle" to be solved, not at all the enjoyable strategy game that you experience when playing with people. The AI *ALWAYS* makes the most optimal choice in every situation. The only way to beat it is if you're lucky with the dice rolls or play specifically to defeat it; you essentially play the entire game having to counter the predictably aggressive, mechanical AI which results in stale unfriendly sessions that you lose more often than win because the AI never makes mistakes. This ends up sabotaging the experience factor since the game essentially becomes drummed up chess.

Great Deal. This download has provided for me what I feel is the most "bang for my buck" of any download I've paid for. DOW has done an excellent job with this app. I have many other DOW games at home and I wanted to try Small World, but I couldn't convince my wife it was worth the $50. Now we can play two-player for only $4.99! Awesome. I haven't had any trouble with the app and the tutorial is great. I also really love the fact that DOW seems intent on listening to their users/fans and perfecting their work. Great job. Download this if for no other reason than to show off your new iPad.

Fun game, decent iPad version with a few flaws. The game itself is fun, and is faithful to the original board game, however there are a few flaws which reduce what would have otherwise been an excellent experience. 1) The game crashes. It happened during the second time playing, so it wasn't a rare occurrence. Also, the game does not save progress, so if the game does crash, you have to restart from scratch. Very annoying - hopefully this will be fixed in the next update. 2) No sound effects. Other than some introductory music before the game starts, and some that plays after the game ends, the game is completely silent. No sound effects for combat, the die rolling, unit placement, etc.

A good game, but new players be warned. This is a fun board game, well implemented on the ipad. However it should be noted the tutorials do a very poor job explaining the game. I came to SW with no prior experience with the board game, and had to immediately get online and download the orignial rulebook to understand what is going on. The iPad app gives you a barebones explanation as to what you can do on a turn, but no guidance on why you would choose to do one thing over in a games with lots of strategic choices and options on any given turn. After about 8 games, i'm starting to get a feel for the decisions in the game. Functionally the game works just fine. Overall the game is good, but it needs better tutiorials and probably a walkthrough mode for new players showing good decisions to make. The game also needs some varying AI difficulty levels. Its pretty rough on new players.

A favorite board game ... now a favorite app. As a HUGE fan of the board game, I was extremely excited to find out there was a Small World app. This was, in fact, one of the main reasons I decided to get the iPad earlier than I originally planned. I have played this game incessantly since downloading it and it is just as fun and fabulous as the game in real life, although I do find this to be a little more predictable than the real-life game. I love the speed and the graphics are gorgeous. My wish would be for this to be a multi-player game up to 5 players like the real game. The nearest competing app to Small World for me is Carcassonne and that is primarily fun because you can invite friends to play with you from device to device. If Small World could add the device-to-device multi-player feature it would be unstoppable! Keep the expansions coming both in real life and for the app! Thanks!

Love it. Great game. I read all the reviews and was a bit nervous. Having never played this game I took heart to the reviews that say it is unforgiving with a tough ai and a bad tutorial. I'm happy to report that the game has a great tutorial and if anything needs a harder ai setting as I beat it in my first game. As for being unforgiving, isn't the rule in a board game that once you declare a turn over it is too late to change things. . . My only complaint is that I want to see more players added. I'd love a 4 player match

No difficulty levels - 2 players only - AI can be ruthless for newbs. I like this game. This is a great app for a two player game, taking turns. This game is awful playing against the AI. Whenver I play, the AI just goes straight after my territories, every time. Maybe it's just the combinations of attributes and races, but it's very frustrating to start out playing AI that stomps your face every territory you conquer, and leaves the rest of the map wide open. A three player game might help, but difficulty levels would help more. I like this app for some reasons, but I wish I had not spent the money on it and I will not play it again. I do own the board game also, and enjoy playing it (though not setting it up and taking it down - which made the app theoretically right up my alley).

Excellent fun alone or with a friend. Thus is by far my favorite iPad game, both for solo games and games with a friend. Although the reviews I've read said the AI was too easy, I find it moderately challenging (right where it should be, actually; win just slightly more often than I lose, and it is usually because my strategy was a little off). This is a great intro to the actual board game (I ended up getting the board game so that I could play with 3+ people), and the expansions help to keep it interesting. I also love the speed of play. Unlike the physical board game, it is possible to pick up and play a game on the iPad in 15 minutes or so. I would recommend Small World to anyone who enjoys strategy games that are easy-to-learn but require thinking and practice to master.

Great, but still crashes. This is a solid implementation of a superb game, and the expansions available are great and well worth the added cost. However, for this game to reach the next level of app greatness, Days of Wonder needs to allow for games with more than two players as well as over the Internet with other remote human players. I am willing to wait for those features, but in the meantime they MUST fix whatever bug(s) is causing the app to crash from time to time (usually right when you are about to finish a game) and also provide a better / more detailed / longer champions list. Finally, they should definitely add a button or two on the main screen to bring up a view where you can read about all the races and powers in a single scroll view (exactly like they provide for the expansions) as well as the full rules PDF. They could implement this last addition with less than an hour of work. In fact, if you are looking for a developer to join the team and do this for you, I would be happy to help out! It pains me to only give this 5 star game a 3 star app rating, but I think that is what you deserve at this point. Make this great app an indispensable one!

Great game, but could use some improvements.. This game is really fun, and better than the actual board game because of the AI and the fact that there is no setup time, but what I think is missing in this iPad version is that only 2 people can play! In the board game, there were 4 maps and up to 5 players. Another suggestion is to use the random map expansion and incorporate it into this app, making each game I play much more interesting. Overall, though, I enjoy this game and would recommend it to all my friends once these changes are made.

This is why I wanted a iPad. This is one of the reasons I wanted to get a iPad.... I loved the board game but could not play it as much as I wanted.... Now I get to play as much as I want....but the only reason it is not a five star is because some of the best small world games I have played were vs 5 other people.... Man those games got down and dirty... This game only being two players is a bit of a let down....I wish days of wonder will work on having this ga,e become a more then two player game.... I would even pay for that.... But other then that... The game is amazing...a must have for all board gamers with an iPad.

Rigged!. I love small world, but NOT the app. The computer will roll the number they need about 4 of every 5 times, and there is no option to return to the menu. And it always seems like you are at a HUGE disadvantage too. An other thing I always get confused because the computer's race tokens are up side down. And you can do ONLY 2 players and no small world underground. I can't believe this costs 7 bucks, RIPOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was my birthday when I wrote this, I got more iTunes cards and I bought this thinking it was cool but no. Beating the CPU is almost impossible no matter what you try if you play friendly, the CPU will be mean to you, if you fight the CPU will win even if they have less tokens. Why does it take up two whole turn to decline and pick a new race? And even if you win you win by a lot there is no such ting as a close game it's always by 20-35 coins. Not worth $7 not even $4 it should be a $3 not as fun as I thought

Wonderful implementation of a fantastic boardgame. I have nothing but praise for this app. It's by far my favorite iPad app right now. A clean interface, beautiful graphics, and great replay value make this a no-brainer of a purchase for anyone who likes the boardgame. In particular, the automation of the manual tasks of setting up the boardgame, constantly counting tokens, and fumbling through the token tray with the real physical boardgame makes this electronic version MUCH quicker and easier than breaking out the real boardgame. Experienced Small World players can knock out a game in 15-20 minutes with this iPad app. The physical boardgame would take twice this long from setup to teardown. Bravo! Of course, I have a wish list of improvements for the app, even though it's an amazing creation as-is: Computer opponent Online play Support for more than two players Randomized maps The ability to purchase expansion packs

A fun, multiplayer strategy game. This game is wonderful. We all like to take turns playing, and even though we had never played a game like this, those familiar with Risk or Civilization will not have a problem picking up this game, while still feeling it is fresh and fun. The gameplay's fast pace and strategic moments make it a good game that is well suited to the iPad. While I would love another board and support for more players, I cannot wait to buy the expansion packs soon, and then have go back to the fun of the game.

The Perfect Diversion. When waiting for classes or for a flights, this game is a great time waster! I have loved small world since I picked it up in physical format about two months ago, and have become an avid player. Now that I have it on my ipad, I can be even less productive, being able to bring the game around everywhere. With the recent addition of game saving, and the promise of future updates, this is one game you can't afford to miss! One word to the wise, though. If you don't have a friend to play this with, you might want to give it a miss, as there is no currently implemented AI. However, the coders behind the game have said that AI is coming, so keep your eyes open, and give in to the world of Small World!

My favorite board game. The computer is challenging enough to keep me on my toes. I wish there was a way to play against multiple computer bots so I don't have to keep looking at the same 2-player board. The most frustrating thing about this game is the process of abandoning regions. To do so requires you to grab a troop with your finger and drag it to a specific point near the absolute edge of your screen. If you drag one pixel too many toward the edge of the screen the troop flies back to the region where you grabbed it. I sometimes get lucky on my first attempt but I have also made as many as twelve attempts to abandon one troop. I decided it was time to write this review when I needed to abandon 7 troops to take out an Ivory Tower. Do the math.

Great with room for more!. First of all, I had never played the original version of this game and was not sure what to expect. What I have discovered is an excellent game of strategy in the same vein as many of the "euro board games" that started their popularity in the US with Settlers of Catan. Small World is fun, works quite well on the iPad, and leaves plenty of room for learning tricks. After the initial release the developers were responsive to feedback and fixed a couple of the initial problems, namely some crashes and the inability to save games. The added stability with autosaving is very nice! Additionally the new race and skill are exciting to have; the more possible combinations, the more exciting the game becomes. On that note, the board game has 2 expansions available. I would love to see those available in the iPad version as in-app purchases! Finally, the developers have been consistently providing updates that have improved the experience and responded to user requests, such as with the side-by-side pay option. While the game is great, two major weaknesses continue to stand out: - online play - computer opponent After that, probably the most important next step would be releasing more board games like this one!

$7 Disappointment.... I read several reviews and despite an apparent lack of update support, I decided to try it. I've never played the board version, so my only reference with Days of Wonder is with Ticket to Ride, a favorite of ours. My expectations started from there. However, after paying about $7 USD for Small World, I was immediately annoyed with the game's splash screen music. No way to turn it off in the game. Next, I checked the tutorial, but the in-game "help" seems to assume you already know how to play and was very little "hep" at all. Playing the game, I had no idea what I was doing. I went on the forums for help, with no further luck. All I found were complaints about the lack of an update and support for the game. After losing game after game, I began regretting my purchase. I'm sure I'm missing something, but playing a game shouldn't take this much effort. Recently, I received an email from Days of Wonder asking about pledges for their upcoming game, Small Wonder 2. I was very confused. I'd had this app for only a few days and now I'm being marketed about a new version. Chances are I won't buy any more games from Days of Wonder. I will continue to cherish Ticket to Ride, but my disappointment in Small World will linger, especially with such a high price tag. Too bad, too. I had such high hopes.

Terrific board game to iPad translation. Picked up the iPad version first and have since also bought the board game, thoroughly enjoy both versions. iPad version is fantastic for a quick pickup games of 10-15 minutes. Have purchased one of the expansions and like the ability to turn the expansion on and off. Might want to think about including a way to view a reference card that shows/explains all races and special powers. This would be particularly useful to new players when they want to understand what their AI opponents race/special power does quickly.

Very good game - should be supported. I had never played the boardgame, but am finding this iPad version to be quite enjoyable. The AI is tough, but eventually is beatable once you learn how to play the game, which is exactly as it should be. I haven't run into any bugs in the game so far either, so it's a pretty solid experience. I would very much like to see an update to add retina graphics for the new iPad … the beautiful graphics in this game deserve that kind of treatment, and without such an update the game will eventually fall behind other similar games, which would be a shame. I certainly wouldn't complain about getting online multiplayer eventually either (in fact this seems like an ideal game for that type of online play). But I am having a good time with the game as it exists now, and am just hoping against hope to see some renewed support for it from the developers.

Good - but takes some time to learn. I like this game and play it a lot now but I had to play it a number of times before I really understood it. Now I can teach my kids to play it but I needed to play it about ten times before I really got it. The tutorial helped with how to get through a game but it didn't really explain the whys. I would love it if I there were an undo button (even better multiple undos) - I sometimes do something by mistake and then sometimes I'd just like to go back and see how something would play out if I'd done something differently. It's much less intuitive (in the logic of how to win) than Ticket to Ride.

A decent initial release. My boyfriend and I love the boardgame, so this was one of the first apps I purchased with my new iPad. The game itself plays fairly well, but several things have stood out so far: 1. As people mention, the game is set up for both players to be opposite from each other, meaning you'll need to do a lot of flipping if you're next to each other. Not the end of the world, but it would be nice to have the ability to set this on a per-game basis. 2. The game lacks any sort of sound effects outside of an opening music intro. It would be nice if they could add in the sounds of pieces hitting the board and other items in the future. 3. Touch sensitivity. There were a number of times where he or I would have to try and move a piece four or five times to get it to register, causing a little frustration. Nothing too serious, and I hope that they can work it out. Other than those items, it's a fairly good translation for the two-player version of the board game, and I can only hope they release a version that could handle 2,3 or 4 players a-la Scrabble.

Exactly the iPad board game we've been looking for. My wife and I have been looking for a great board game to play on my new iPad. We play games regularly and both thought the iPad is a great platform to use as a digital board. Pass and play games work ok, but it's not as much fun as being able to watch someone make their move on the board. The iPad is a perfect platform to use as a game board and it's nice to see a developer using it as such. To address the complaints: I have no problem with the lack of an AI opponent. I specifically bought this game to play with my wife, so I'm very happy with the way the game is set up. That being said, I do have a couple complaints (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5). First, the tutorial is wicked complicated. Definitely not designed to introduce new players to this game. Seems more oriented to those who've played the real game and are trying out the iPad version. Once we figured it out, it's a fairly simple game, but getting to that point took a bit of playing around. Second complaint is that you can only take 10 turns. Maybe that's how the board game works, but we would love to be able to make the game longer. Maybe introduce an options menu to tweak the game a bit? Overall a very great game and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. Maybe future updates will address the issues i do have, then it'll be a whole-hearted 5 stars.

Great game, but could use a fix or two. I love the gameplay and graphics. It is challenging enough to keep my interest, but the core mechanics are easy enough for my 9 year old daughter to play. The random pairing of the different races with different special abilities keeps the game play fresh. There are a few things I'd like to see before I'd consider this a 5 star game. 1. The basic rules given in the app are not enough. I had to figure out a lot of things through trial and error. If anything, a link to the complete rules should be added to the app's basic rules page. 2. The game crashes during 1 out of every 5 games, usually it is when I am about to beat the bot. It starts to tally the scores and goes either to a black screen or exits out of the app completely. 3. The leader board needs some polish. The way the data is displayed is a bit confusing. I should be able to tell at a glance who won which game. 4. A bot difficulty level choice would be nice. Even though my daughter does okay playing against me (I take it easy on her). The bot slaughters her every time. It's so bad that she doesn't want to play on her own anymore.

Can't stop playing. I wish I had never bought this game. I can't stop playing it. Each game is very different from the next. I had played the board game version with my friends a few times and thought it was OK but the iPad version works much better for me because I can play one-on-one against the AI any time I feel like it. I think I had dismissed the board game in the past because with 4 players the Small World aspect is much more pronounced (even though the board is larger) and I did not like that. Other than the addictive nature of it, my only minor complaint is that there have been a few times when the rules were not clear and I ended up making moves that made no sense that I could not undo. Other than that I have very much enjoyed the game.

This is excellent, having fun against the AI. I've spent a rainy weekend casually playing head to head against the AI and it's been a ton of fun. The different race and power combinations leads to many different strategies. The AI has been just right for me, I win some and I lose some. I figure eventually I will know all of the AIs tricks but there's always multiplayer to keep it fresh. The expansions add a bunch of variety, too. Presentation and interface of app is also excellent and makes great use of the device. Now I only wish there was an expansion that increased the players to greater than 2.

A fun game with growing pains.. A fun strategy board game for 2-5 players local or online, which is my my fave of the genre, but it does have its couple of down sides this version. The sound effects and music get tire some, and the ai needs some work. Especially the gypsies which ai plays way past time to give up on them, and stout doesn't work for ai at all it seems. AI also often puts races in decline too often or infrequently ( i.e. Gypsies et. al.) in general. Also 3 races and two powers in the rules of this version don't exist in game at all... I wanna chance to play shrubmen behemoths! Add the limit of 20 skeletons and 18 sorcerers in the in-game description of them too please! Looking forward to future updates and expansions!

You'll love this if you like Carcassonne, Catan, Risk, and Euro board games in general. While this version does have a *small* problem with crashes, at least in the tutorial game, it is still relatively crash free most of the time. Don't let the occasional crash stop you from buying this excellent Euro-style board game, because the gameplay and design is fabulous! IMO this overall gameplay is better than Settlers of Catan and Risk, almost on par with Carcasonne, and far better than most other popular Euro board games that have been ported to the iDevice platform. What I really like about this game is that it is much faster to play than either Risk or SoC or Carcasonne, etc., yet is very deep and strategic, and the basic gameplay mechanics mean that no two games are ever the same. I love that you can finish a full 2-player game in about 10-15 minutes if both sides are already familiar with the game (or if you're playing against the bot). Don't be discouraged if the bot beats you a lot at first. Google for "strategy small world" and you'll find some good articles/forum posts to explain basic strategy, and you'll then have a good fighting chance against the bot. Also, you *must* click the big link on the main screen called "The Boardgame" and read the 4 overview pages and also the pDF of the user guide from the board game to really learn the game basics.

Small World 2 is Brilliant. I just got the patch and now this app (which was already good) is fantastic!!! I own the board game and as soon as I found out from Wil Wheaton on GeekandSundry's "Table Top" that there was an app I went right out and snagged it. It used to be only have solo or two player but since the update the feature list is now immense! Now this app is just like playing the board game! I play solo but now I can play up to five person solo! Each number of players increases the options. I own all the expansions as well and it really opens up the game play options. I love everything about this title and if you've ever played the table version and liked it then this is definitely the app for you!!!

Great board game experience. Let me start with the bad... This game can be buggy, doesn't have all the original boardgame content, and has no real sound or animation to speak of, along with the biggy of having no AI. Coming into this game having never played the boardgame I was skeptical of it but decided to take the plunge and it's a great game for two people. It is an exceptional game and the touch interface works wonderfully. Although there are several issues, they are (hopefully) only first version issues from not having tested on the ipad and should be worked out in no time. Don't let the bad dissuade you from buying, great experience and a great showcase of what is possible with the ipad

Great version of board game!. I was always interested in trying out this game, but no one I knew had it. When I saw it was only a fraction of the board game I bit. It's a very fun game though there is still room for improvement. It really needs an AI for single player games. There isn't always another person next to me willing to play. Likewise, there should be four players capable of playing. The iPad has enough screen real estate on the sides to add in the last two players. As for music, well.... There are classical themes from Beethoven or Mozart that are in public domain that should fit nicely. As you can see, my only complaints are for additions (except the music). The game is great and I hope that other board game makers take a good look at how to do it right with this game. Now onto Ticket to Ride please!

Please give us more great boardgames..... It takes about 5 games until you start to understand the strategy in small worlds. Once you get the idea it's a great game. My wife and I love to play against each other, it works great for two players on 1 iPad. If you like depth and strategy in your gaming then this will become one of your favorites. Other developers please make new ports of great board games. The iPad is a perfect device for it, and you'll see there's a lot of iPad owners who want games with depth and not zombie fruit slicing airport simulations.
