Video links broken now - updated.. It seems like a change has resulted in any video within the app not being playable. This isn’t a geographic location issue as copying the link to story and opening it in Safari will result in that very same video being viewable. ETA. After a response from the app developer they indeed seem to have fixed this now. I have amended my rating to reflect this but have left the original issue posted for transparency purposes. Good job and thanks for the fix!

Good app, could be better. Tons of other reviews have touched on the pros and cons of this app, so I’ll skip right to my peeve. When I’m in an article and I swipe left to right, I want to go back to the list of articles (headlines), not the previous article in the list! I didn’t tap that article because I didn’t want to read it. I don’t want to have to tap the tiny little back arrow in the top left corner. I WANT TO SWIPE. This is a stupid design. Going article to article right to left, fine. But get me out of article hell left to right.

Awful Update. I have had this app for years. It WAS my favorite news app. I could control what I wanted to see with the My News section and focus on new information from Science, Technology, Europe, World, and of course my favorite football club. These options no longer exist and neither does this app on my phone. I am so disappointed in the new update. It was refreshing to be able to see news that gets lost in the usual repeating cycle that is mostly tragic news these days. Those options are gone. I can see everything on the new update that I see repeated on every other app or news channel. The update took away the most desirable and important part of the app; its ability to allow people to personalize it and see a variety of news and not just the headlines of the day. I live in the US and I used this app to connect with what was going on in the world as a whole.

Readers can screen out garbage topics!. Finally I can claw free from the suffocating American news bubble! This is an app which readers can set to screen out the garbage which clutters so many other news feeds. There is a “My News” section where the reader can choose the topics they want. No more football! No more American partisan bickering! No more hype pushing one or another insane social agenda! No more climate hysteria! Just news from all over the world.

Discouraging App. While I love looking over the articles, the app has not been improved since its inception. It’s very annoying to scroll through the long list of available articles, find one to read, then when finished reading and going back to the list, the app takes you back to the beginning and forces you to scroll again through everything that has already been scrolled through and read. I wish the app would take you back to where you were on the list. There must be an algorithm for that, easily inserted into the app program.

Content good, delivery poor at times. I assume this app takes articles written for the English market and edits them for the American market which is fine. However, in the process of doing so there seem to be some glaring errors that could be easily amended. I fail to believe this would be allowed under direct Beeb governance. Proof reading seems to have been thrown out the window along with spell check. Simple things that are actually quite important in an app like this. Anyway, content is good and somewhat impartial.

Latest update rendered almost unusable. I used to love this app, but their recent update has rendered the app almost unusable. I have to pull down the screen to refresh the Home Screen, and that doesn’t work the first time, half the time. The stories are so large now that you have to scroll a LOT more to see more than one or two headlines at a time, and it is just unpleasant to use now. This used to be my go-to app for news, but I don’t think I have the patience to put up with the current version anymore. PLEASE roll back or come up with something more user friendly!!!

Video CC not showing. Not sure if it’s settings within my device, that I see no way of changing, but CC doesn’t show when videos are played in full screen. Wouldn’t be a huge problem except video automatically switches to full screen and won’t play any other way. Playback pauses if I click out if full screen. Clicking play pushes it back into full screen again. Terribly annoying bug. Other than that I still love BNC news. It’s my go-to source!

Best news source. Best source for to keep up with US news and news from around the world. American news sources are SO inordinately focused on domestic news and Trump-idiocy news as to be boring and repetitive. Thank you. Would normally give 5 stars, but for the frequent app crashes that have become the norm over the last few months. Multiple crashes during one viewing session of about 30-45 minutes. Suggestion: When a new version fails to work properly, go back to a previous version that DOES work. Introduce newer versions only when they’ve been properly vetted.

Buggy & Advertising Issues. When scrolling through articles, they will stack on top of each other occasionally and make it nearly impossible to click an article. Even worse are the advertisements. Previously they just slowed down the app to almost unusable rates. Now videos will automatically open without me clicking them as soon as they are scrolled into view, which I’m sure is against some rules somewhere. I even checked my app options and I have videos set to NOT auto open and to NOT auto play. You all really need to figure out your advertising problems in the app.

How is this an improvement? Cost-cutting perhaps?. New layout looks dated and scruffy. More importantly though why are my topics missing and replaced with arbitrary / generic topics? Where is the search function to overcome this limitation. Finally I see the following "topics" - Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and "Politics" (which I assume is the closest they can come to the United Kingdom in its entirety). WHERE is the "England" section and where is the UK/Britain section (on the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation App)? Whenever any app changes its style, many folks will complain. I get that. Personally I think this layout is retrograde step. The lack of easily identifiable search function seriously compromises the utility of this app and the thought or lack of thought of leaving out an English and a British section is bizarre to the point of making one question the ability of the design team.

Poor performance. App is becoming increasingly halting and jumpy to scroll, to the point where controlling position is quite difficult and frustrating. An increasing number of stories aren’t actually ready to view when chosen, resulting in the dreaded “Loading …” status. There is no way to tell prior to choosing to read the article whether it’s one of them. I would gladly avoid them, were there a badge to warn of this or an option to omit them from the list. The “starting at the top of the list” problem when returning from a story greatly magnifies the frustration.

It’s 2023, why can’t I personalize my news. I used to love this app. With the new update, I’m not able to personalize what newsfeed I am able to view immediately. I don’t want to read about dozens of topics I’m not interested in. The reason I downloaded this app was because the news was credible, and easy to view. Now I have to dig through information that I have no interest in just to find a few articles I want to read. Unfortunately, this app does not support my current needs in obtaining pertinent information to my needs. I hope you guys change this in the future, and maybe I’ll download it again

One of the worst updates I’ve seen. I’ve had a lot of apps and a lot of updates, but this one really takes the cake as one of the worst. Literally every new feature manages to make the app worse and less user friendly. Having to scroll all the way down, rather than easily pan across, the various tabs/subcategories is not intuitive, but this is just one of far too many issues to list. All the negative reviews from the past few days are really telling: this “update” is a huge step backwards. I’m happily switching to another source for my news until it’s fixed.

Biased. I love the international coverage but the US coverage is very one sided. Recent example: The Trump administration have repeatable said his withdraw of troops is not a “Mission Accomplished” situation and the fight against ISIS has entered a new era. While I don’t like the decision, you keep saying he said they he said the fight is over. He said the caliphate ie the “country” of ISIS is defeated. His point is, and you know this is that they are going to be like Al Ciada, and the Taliban, still dangerous, but still there but a shadow of themselves, but you keep saying/implying Trump said it’s all over. You are misrepresenting, on purpose what he Said!

No Personalization, White-Centered, Fewer Headlines. The latest update removes the ability to search or personalize the app to highlight topics and regions relevant to the user. Half the topics are sport-related, and they’ve completely removed Latin America, Africa, Middle East and Asia as topics. It’s giving racism - prioritizing golf and rugby and Western countries over access to articles covering news on non-white majority continents. Where one used to be able to swipe through their preferred topics and quickly scroll headlines for a region or topic (economy, health, etc.), now the app lists all topics in one tab, it isn’t customizable, and you have to scroll through the topics in a predetermined order. Only two headlines are visible for each topic, and you have to click through to see more articles.

Updated review. I learned to live with this app and appreciate the good things while ignoring those I didn't care for. BUT now you have added a stridently loud ad that unexpectedly bursts into noise as I scroll down an article. No way to stop it except exiting app. This one may prove to be something I literally cannot live with. PLEASE remove this intrusive ad. Bring back the old app. This one is pedestrian -- in trying to look like everyone else, you have lost what made you unique: order. Why do I need another news app that looks like all the rest?

No “good news”. The app itself is fine, but the stories are mostly negative angles on events or just plain negative events. For example, vandalism, deadly accidents, murders, hate crimes, etc. Politics comes in for it too where there are no positive stories on what the various leaders or governments around the world are doing, only negative or neutral ones. Unless you have a bulletproof psyche, the written content will get you down. Best to stick to the one-minute news video and just get the headlines. No wonder young people don’t bother with the news because it’s so depressing if you only read it from this app.

Somewhat slanted.... Love getting the news from around the world. And the format is by far the best as far as news apps go! But I do occasionally wonder if what I’m reading about other countries are as leftist-slanted as the reports on Trump are. They don’t give him a break! As horrible as they make him sound, when he’s really been quite impressive, I wonder if the rest of the world is also happier than they’re sometime made out to be here. I guess take it all with a grain of salt and realize that people want drama and bad news. So news outlets deliver.

Good Bites but Small. It’s an easy way to take in a different perspective. I like the stories that are longer and more involved and mostly about individuals going through trials or tribulations. I do wish that there was more substance because most of the articles are very short. Maybe provide links for further reading? I do appreciate how news stories are linked to similar stories. I also appreciate the mix of content (videos, news, in-depth stories, radio, etc.).

Love the app, but hate loud barge in ad videos. I have used the app for years, and it’s part of my daily routine. BUT recently, there not only have been more ads (like the FedEx ones) which I am OK with, but almost daily, and usually at night, while my partner is asleep, annoying loud videos suddenly start, which I haven’t found a way to stop quickly, except by shutting down the app altogether. Please eliminate this feature. It’s the best way to annoy this particular happy and long time user.

Ads and video play are very annoying!. I like the news stories and articles, but lately the ads just completely ruin the experience. The ads cover the articles that you’re reading and are very difficult, if not impossible to clear, leaving you with no choice but to close the app. This is very frustrating and I now question whether or not to just delete the app as it’s just too annoying to deal with. Video playback is very poor as well. Don’t bother with this app until they address these issues that i and many other users have been experiencing of late.

New version buggy and useless.. I’ve had this app for many years and use it daily. But this new update is horrendous. For instance you can no longer listen to live news while reading news articles? Why the restriction to only sound OR articles?? This is clearly not usable and should be fixed. Additionally I live abroad and used to have a setting delivering news from home. This new update has removed all options for personalised news, meaning I constantly have to navigate multiple mandated grouping and subsections to find country specific news. Im now (sadly) looking for another news station.

Very pessimistic. This app focuses mostly on the distressing news throughout the world. It repeats it ad nauseum. There is so much news out there, it would be good for this app to broaden its horizons. It gives a bit of news from the most "noisy" places (repeatedly), but fails miserably in wider coverage. If it's not bad news, this app doesn't cover it. Except of course for the little Royals. Now that's cute. The main problem that I have with it is that if you want to read one of the stories and you happen to be way down in the column on the story, when you finish reading it and go back to the column it puts you all the way back up to the top of the column instead of where you were. That is extremely frustrating have to go all the way back down to the bottom of the column where you were!!!

New Format Ruins the App. The new format just rolled out ruins what used to be my go-to news app. You can no longer customize the topics you see. You will now read what they want you to read in the order they want you to read it. I gave it two stars only because the football and cricket and sports news is relegated to the sports section where the old format sometimes had soccer as literally 15 of the top 20 stories. Deleting the app and searching for another news source. Thanks for ten good years of reliable news, but it’s time to move on.

Missing the old layout. The new update has ruined the UX of the app. Gone are the options of what topics to follow. There are also fewer and smaller photos and lots of white space. In the same area that used to maximize the number of articles and photos, there is now dead white space. Now it takes much more scrolling to find articles. Users are forced to scroll past many articles that may not be interesting (in my case all of the sports articles) instead of having choices like in the previous version. The app is now broken when it didn’t need any fixing. Sooo disappointing!

Cannot Control Notification Topics. Though the application has settings for controlling the news feed shown within the app, I cannot find a way to control which topics are allowed to generate breaking news notifications. For example, I don’t care about the goings on of the royal family, those topics are not enabled on my news feed. However, that does not stop the app from sending me countless notifications on the subject that I have absolutely no interest in.

Scrolls back to top after you read an article. When you read an article then go back to the home page, sometimes the app will go back to where you were on the home page. Other times when you read, and go back to the home page, it will scroll back to the very top; it’s very frustrating when you were reading an article near the bottom of the home page, and you have to scroll all the way to the bottom again to read the next article, and find where you left off on the home page.

New update w/ advertising = awful. I would not having updated bc the last app was totally fine with no bugs. This new one has advertising that ‘floats’ over the articles preventing you from reading them so you have to scroll up and down to get to the article you want to read. On top of that when I go back to the main screen after reading, it loses my place so I have to scroll down to find the article again. Too much scrolling!!! Why “fix” something that wasn’t broken in the first place? Also SO many spelling mistakes and missed words in articles these days.

Version 2023 - Not an improvement. I feel sad for giving three stars to an app that I loved and relied on for many years. The stars are for the BBC’s content. The app itself lost a lot of its usefulness for me with its last update. The My News feature that was removed, used to give me the ability to select several topics that were of my interest and quickly check them in the morning. The curated Topics feature tries to feed me news that I may not be interested in. In fact, some of the topics that I had in my list don’t show at all. This combined with the lack of a search feature, made the app almost useless.

Lousy new look, took great app and ruined it. To say I loath your new app is to say the sun sheds a small amount of light. If I could rate it with negative numbers I would. You took away all the functionality of the old app to apply glitzy and bling instead. No way to select the areas I am interested in reading, virtually impossible to find regions on less you happen to stumble upon a story from that region. I could go on at length but will not bore you. Please off the option of the old format to those of us who like to read our news without glitz. Frankly you have ruined my favorite news app and I will most likely delete it.

Bring back compact layout, please!. The latest update brought layout changes that make it much harder to scan the top news items. Now there are large and small images, sometimes in one column and sometimes in two. The “compact layout” of the previous versions was perhaps more boring, but way easier to scan because of its uniformity. I hope the developers will bring back the compact layout, at least as an option!

Why such slow scrolling?. I’d give it 5 stars because it’s the best news app I know of. But something has gone badly wrong very recently. It won’t scroll smoothly anymore. Slow and jerky and sometimes just stalls in the middle of reading an article. If I force quit and reopen, it’s fine at first—till I have to scroll again. Then it gets jerky again. Please fix!

Gets more annoying to use.... I’ve really gone off this app lately. The content is still “OK” although is steadily being eroded with “soft news” stories taking the headlines from “hard news”. I suspect activists in the newsroom... Also the app itself has got a bit more annoying to use. As with other apps, many elements are far too big. There is far too much scrolling involved. I wish there was a compressed view or at least an option to turn off or make the photos smaller. The “menu” is now in exactly the spot where you’d be inclined to press a “home” button resulting in many unintended trips to settings. It’s also literally the word “menu” instead of the 3 bar “hamburger” icon that’s now an accepted standard. ...and the topmost news story is now butted right up against the red header bar with no border. Apart from it looking inconsistent from the other stories, it leads you to think that part of what your looking at is scrolled out of view, so inclines a user to pull down on it... Like I say, still has good content, but it’s becoming more “annoying” to use...

App has recently become glitchy when scrolling please fix! Otherwise great!!!. I have ben using this app for years and its my go to for news. Unfortunately about a month or two ago, it has become somewhat glitchy when scrolling, maybe because so many people are using it now? I wish they would do an update to fix that, I can usually get it to settle down if I close out the app and re-open it. But, as far as content goes, this will continue to be my preferred method for news.

Once great app now virtually useless to me. This was my favorite news app, before the recent upgrade and I used it several times a day to keep up to date with news on topics and geographic regions that are important to me. Now with the new upgrade, all that personalization had disappeared. The My News feature has gone, so I can’t find news stories on the areas that interest me, there is no customization available and I have to scroll through what the app decides I should see, rather than what I want to read about. I am in the USA and used to enjoy the BBC’s global perspective over the US news channels. But now I am presented with the same news stories as other channels. Also the news presented does not seem to update as quickly as before - there are “main headlines” in several categories that are 2-3 days olds which never used to happen. The only positive update - hence 2 stars rather than 1 - is that the videos tend to load and play more quickly and consistently. Before they would constantly get hung up on ads or just not play at all.

Some issues. Great reporting. This is my goto source, but I have some qualms. The biggest is the annoying tendency of the app to refresh to the top of the page whenever it wants as I’m scrolling through and reading various stories. By the time I get to the end I’ve had to find my place again several times. 2nd issue is that sometimes I come across articles that are a couple sentences long with no real plot or story. No video or links either. Just strange and somewhat frustrating when I start to read it because it sounds like an interesting topic.

Bugs and lagging. I don’t usually write reviews, but I’ve had this app for about a year and all of a sudden the app now lags and bugs out every time I open it. I cannot press into videos anymore, the advertisements always block an article when I’m trying to view it, and it takes me about 30 swipes upward to get down the page. Though the news is “REAL NEWS,” some of the people writing these articles have some pretty awful spelling errors... and that’s bad-let’s be honest. I hope one of the developers or admins will see this and make the app better as it once was!

Latest version is USELESS. I loved the old format. In addition to the general news, I could select specific topics - archaeology, medicine, science, climate change, regional news for the UK and international and many more. Now I get a very basic selection, over emphasizing several sports I am not interested in. There is currently NO way to customize the topics to reflect my various interests . For example, after a significant search, I found a search button so I searched “archaeology” and got some uninteresting videos and various other links to things I can’t access in the USA None of the great stories about the latest UK and international discoveries that I enjoyed until this horrible new version was foisted on me.

Disappointing App. This app used to allow you to choose your own news layout with articles arranged by topic in your preferred order. The new version has this feature removed, so now there’s just a feed of their top stories or by topics but with no way to hide or order the topics. Whoever is leading their app development should be demoted as removing useful features is not a way to serve people better. What in the world were they thinking?! (Heck just dismiss the project managers, I guarantee the developers desire to build an app they are proud of and would not remove their hard work for the sake of “stream lining” or whatever other buzzword the PM probably sold this useless vision on. I hope someone who cares reads this. You’re letting not only your journalists but your entire organization down by making poor choices.

A welcome break from US Media.... Like all sources of News, it has its god and bad but then again that’s just what makes news what it is.......I do prefer fact oriented news which saves the writers opinion for the OPINION PAGES and I firmly believe that it is a Editor’s Duty to enforce such a policy, however today’s Media Outlets are more interested in getting a story out rather than fact checking. This condition runs rampart in the US and continues to cause great to grief. In general, folks want factual news and not ACOSTA TYPE BIAS.......whether it be directed at the Left or the Right.

Annoyed. I have limited vision. I love your news service. The updated App really in NOT an improvement. Highlighted text to speech is un believably fast. Wile it's not on other apps. It locks up regularly. It's not as easy to use as the odd app. I don't like it! Why can't I just watch all the videos ? I also have trouble with the first page which is to be important news but it is very hard to us text to speech. Why do you refer to President Trump as. Trump. I don’t think it is proper educate. And shows a lack of respect. Not very British. James Gage

wrong end of day’s news.. To more knowingly be able to assess the neutrality of news reporting (which should be the gold standard), this rating should have been after one has read the day’s articles with, perhaps, a more critical eye. Also, a simple 1 through five star system is ludicrous. In reading reviews, some focused on videos, some focused on bias, some focused on layout and presentation, some focused on breadth of coverage. It is easily possible to have perfect scores in one area, and atrocious in another. Does 3 stars mean great reporting, bad video? Or perhaps it means great video, poor reporting? What does the simple 3 star rating really mean, if anything?

Best news, mediocre app. Great news source, of course, but the app needs some work. The most annoying thing currently is the Google ads constantly covering the content. I’d say it’s about 30% of the time I can’t finish an article because an ad is covering it- this just happened in the last few weeks, so maybe it was part of a different fix. I also wish the swipe function was a bit more reliable- sometimes it skips stories on the headline page because they aren’t the same format, which is annoying, because I was intending to read it, but now I have to go back, scroll down, and tap through. I also wish they’d put transcripts up for their video stories- as much as I’d like the time to watch a video, reading is faster and more convenient most of the time.

Please fix location content messages. Some of the best journalism available however the ad designs are the worst I’ve seen. They frequently upset the layout of news stories and when playing before a video prevent the actual news video from playing. Also please show the ‘content not available in your country’ message BEFORE the 30 second unskippable video ad. I’d happily pay for an ad free version to avoid this kind of nonsense as it really detracts from an otherwise great news service.

Live Stream is terrible. Save yourself the hassle of downloading this app. I was hopeful that the recent update would fix the live stream problems, but nope. I get about 15 minutes of broadcast and then the app pauses the stream and then ultimately crashes or hangs there expecting you to unpause it every few minutes until it finally crashes. Strangely I have had the same crashing issue of World Service on other apps too, so it is not specific to this app, but more specific to their stream, which is now no longer worth trying to listen to due to how broken it is. I know that the world wants broken up news reports instead of a proper stream though.....oh wait. I have been having this issue for over six months and no amount of bug reports has seen improvements made. Others in the reviews report the same thing and the developers clearly aren’t capable of fixing it or don’t care.

This used to be a great app. To be clear, this review is about the app and not the content. I’vd been using it over a decade because it was the only news app with credible content that organized the stories by continent. The old app also allowed you to customize the way the segments showed up and even allowed you to create custom segments based on keywords. With the new version the app has been completely butchered. Lacks any kind of customization and the stories are organized in a completely arbitrary way. I get the idea thar products need to evolve with the new users coming into the market but this pushing tried and true users… what an absolute shame. This app is now designed to work for people who want to mindlessly scroll for hours and kill time.

Good perspective; annoying bug. It’s nice to have a news source that has a broader perspective. I can get a variety of articles on US news, as well as a wide range of world news that’s unavailable elsewhere. Some reviewers complained that the news is “left,” but they don’t get that the rest of the world sees the current administration for what it is! However... as others have mentioned, after reading most articles, the app doesn’t return you to where you left the main page; instead it takes you back to the top, and you have to scroll back down to find your place. Annoying!

New update is not good. I gave it awhile to try and get used to the new ui but it’s just worse. I mostly have just used my news and the tabs are terrible. I got so much information quickly by seeing very small pictures and headlines grouped by custom topic. Now I have to do so much more scrolling and swiping. Often my screen is consumed ENTIRELY BY 2 STORY PREVIEWS while scrolling through the latest news. I don’t need preview pictures that large! Lastly the ads always seem to render after the content has loaded and there is no placeholder for the unloaded ad, creating an obnoxious shift in content once the ad loads and takes up pixel space. Please do something

Please just let me pay to get rid of ads.. I love the app, great way to browse news but please just let me pay to get rid of the pop-up video ads. If you just scroll past one it automatically pops up and starts playing and if the app is open even in the background it automatically starts playing audio if I hook my phone up to my car or Bluetooth and I have to force quit to get it to stop playing. This is so incredibly invasive and there are no preferences to turn it off. 5 stars once you let me buy an ad-free version.

Annoying quirk!. After selecting a news story say, a couple of swipes down the list, reading it and then hitting the Back arrow, the App returns you to the very first story at the top of the list! Why can’t it return you to your previous position ??

Auto pop-up ad’s. As a Pom overseas I’ve been using it for years. Disappointing that it now seems to auto jump to apples App Store to promote and advertise installing silly game apps. Not sure if this is a bug as I’m not even clicking on the ads between news stories. It will just jump to it away from the news story you’re trying to read. Other than that a useful app if we can believe most news these days.

Ads, ads, ads.... Used to really like the app, but after last redisign it’s become worthless. - Shows more ads then any app I’ve ever seen. To a point that I have to watch 15 sec ad before 15 sec video content - Section “My News “ is useless, as it keeps showing 2-month old news for most of the sections - News quality overall has deteriorated (though it’s not just the app’s problem). Mostly click bites

So far so great. I have been use it for 6 years, was think about switch to other but back to this eventually.

App ads becoming more intrusive. I’ve used the app for years and the ads, while always annoying, have been bearable enough and most would understand the need for them outside the UK. However an article was left unreadable this morning after an ad for a big bank would leap out and fill the screen with a video every time I scrolled past it on the page.

Too many adds. No one can question the BBC’s quality reporting and coverage but those 15 second adds become increasingly annoying as you scan for news. Without them I would rate it 5 stars. I understand that without those adds, readers would no doubt be facing subscription fees. I just wonder if there could be a cap placed on the amount you need to view per session?

Excellent news journalism, shame about the intrusive adds. I’ve used this app for many years as my go to news app. From time in the UK to now in Australia. The set up of the app to give me the news I want is great, and the ease of reading more news articles in the past relating to current news today is superb. Just ignore the adds, wish there was a paid for version add free.

Terrible. What was once a great app is now terrible as recent changes have introduced automatic pop up videos that make it next to impossible to read articles without having to close pop ups multiple times. Very disappointing

Ads are insane.. The recent change to how ads appear is making it very difficult to read the articles. Haven’t got though one piece of news yet without the same ad popping up several times. It’s enough to make me delete the app if it continues.

Glitchy scroll speed iPhone11. Must have been an update recently but the scroll smoothness has disappeared becoming glitchy and annoying to see where you’re up to in an article. Please fix asap

You can’t help the ads, so I ignored it in the review! journalism done right, and on time and quick reports and updates on important global events! Quick coverage of issues and events! Especially on the Sri Lanka Bombings of 2019 App runs smoothly as well, and well placed icons and smooth interface!

Annoying Adds!!. Great news app but the only BIG negative is the annoying adds. Sometimes they take you to the advert even though you haven't clicked on the link. Plus videos you want to watch come via a compulsory advert. I understand advertising helps cover the costs but they are a bit over the top. 5 star news but 3 stars with adds.

Ad pop ups. Probably the best news in the world with fair and transparent journalism. The new ads though on this app especially the Fed ex videos which pop up three times in a story are ridiculous and have made me switch to alternative news feeds but also have made sure I never use Fed ex .

Pop-ups and more pop-ups. No issue with news part, quality and broadness. However those 15 seconds pop-up ads, even after enduring one you still get more of it for the next report and so on to the point one starts to skip reading/watching for fear of the ads...

Would be prepared to pay to get rid of ads. Your sports news coverage is the best in the world and I am addicted to it. But the ads have taken the shine off it for me. Intrusive, impossible to turn off and over the last 3 days they just pop up even when I haven’t clicked on a banner. The quality of news is such that I’d happily pay $2 - $5 per month to get rid of these ads. I’ve found myself going on the app less and less and looking for ad-free alternatives. Real shame.

Advertising insults news stories!. The advertising in this application is extremely inappropriate! I was watching a news video about how a joint venture between BHP and a Brazilian company created a disaster that took out entire towns and killed over 300 people. BHP were held accountable for their actions and charged with negligence! But before the news video started a commercial came up for BHP showing how good of a company they were and how they are the future! This was an insult to the victims and friends and family that are following this story. This has been screen recorded and will be reported to the advertising standards boards in both the UK and Australia. This advertising before news stories sometimes is a contradiction to the story you are trying to watch/read. I cannot support this app when such carelessness in advertising is happening. I will be Pursuing this and fighting for change for appropriate advertising. I will not support this application and will be send ing screen recordings to appropriate news and media organisations to make sure this application changes its insulting advertising!

Easy to read. I found out it is easy to read and find my news compare with others.

Tommy Robinson. Your complete lack of coverage of this story is astonishing. Whether you agree with or like the man is not the point . The fact that the right of free speech is under attack . You don’t have the guts to report the crimes committed by mainly Muslims in the name of Islam for fear of being branded bigots or racists . I thought you were better than this .

Good News App. It has helps it’s high quality for a long time. 👍🏼👍🏼 However sharing a news on social media with a copy of one or two paragraphs is one of the worst features. Please make the feature more user friendly.

The first news coverage I look at each day and I'm in PR.. Unbiased news coverage which doesn't sensationalise events. Longer stories draw the reader deeper. Enjoyable image stories at bottom of app but why always pictures from Africa? Not that they aren't good but why not from other continents? South America for instance?

Crashes MOST of the time. I like the way content is structured in the app - it’s clean and easy to scroll and decide which news you want to read. However, this app have crashed on me so many times, i’ve decided to delete it. You’re in the midst of reading an article, and the app blacks out and closes. You open the app again, and you’ve lost your page. Worst thing is, you try to ignore it and continue reading/browsing and it continues to crash countless times. Disappointing.

Great news app if not for the ads. A really nicely designed news app with content easily tailored to what you need. However the ads in the app tend to cover stories so quite often you can’t open a story you want to view because an ad covers it.

Losing its way. Has long been one of the most impartial and professional news sources and apps. Sadly, what seems to be two recent changes make it not that different from common news: 1) An increases in opinion pieces. 2) A habit of replacing article titles so it looks like there is new news, when it’s actually just an article you’ve already read with a new (often gimmicky) name.

Reliable service.. These days it is refreshing and reassuring to know that there is a news and information source that is based on truth and unbiased opinion.

Welcomed until I saw location always active. I was so happy to learn of this app and began using it. I then realised the app continually tracks my location even when not in use. I then read your notice regarding location tracking being linked to identity. I am uninstalling and will wait for news you have changed this before ever installing again. At that point, you’ll get more stars.

Subscriptions please!. Excellent, can be a little biased at times, but ok if you read between lines. Please offer a subscription to get rid of those dammed ads.

Current Problem with App. Normally an excellent app. Love it! At the moment for some reason it won’t update or load new stories. It shows a message stating that there is no internet connection. I have tried reinstalling the App but no joy! Sad because I can no longer get the British News - it was such a great App!

Review. Apart from the ‘unable to skip’ advertisements on any video clips you select, the app is easy to use and excellent. The news quality is fantastic and very informative.

Don’t complain. Today’s impatient and spoiled internet users have no sense of the amazing technology they are so quick to criticise and complain about. Being born in 1941 I truly relish the amazing gift that the internet has provided but saddened by the abuse that so many who use it for criminal and demeaning ends. So sad!!!

Ads increasingly irritating. I would quite happily pay for this app to have quality news without the ads (including online gambling), which only recently has escalated to pop-up animated ads at the bottom of the screen. Hence four stars.

Propaganda. If you are looking for daily hit piece on Donald Trump this app is for you. If you are looking for one sided zero context leftist propaganda this app is for you. If you are looking for a app that proves most of the msm are the enemy of the people this app is for you. I would suggest you do your own research after reading any news stories on this site as it is extremely biased. Some of the stories they do from around the world are excellent and well worth a read you just have to scroll through all the propaganda to get to them

It feels like what news should be. It has a truly global feel while allowing the user to drill down into topics they are interested and passionate about, it really feels like I can get a reliable and fair understanding of what is happening in the world, a great source of balanced truth

Video ads with sound now?. I’ve used this app for many many years. With a toddler and baby, this now normally occurs late evening or early morning when they’re asleep. And now, when reading written (not video) articles...videos ads start with sound blaring. Not a great addition for people wanting a quiet read...or just for kids to remain asleep.

Intrusive advertising. Ok news app with good news and can customise to own interests. Some content is fidget though , ie Google changing typeface is not news. I would prefer adverts to be much less intrusive. I would also like more written news and less video posts. I would pay to have ad free

Ads ads ads. Used to be my go to app for news, but now it runs glitchy with forced ads on the Home Screen and don’t even think about watching a video unless you want a 30 second ad for a 3 second clip that may or may not have been removed….. Best news, worst app.

Crashes galore and over the top ads. I’ve loved and used this app for years but for the past few months I can not read more than 2 articles without a crash which is becoming infuriating. Fix this you lazy gits! Also the whole screen ads popping up as you are clicking on the screen to scroll within an article immediately taking you to the advertisers website is too much. Dial it down or lose users

No personal news feed. One of the best features of this app WAS the ability to filter your own news feed. It’s flexibility has been eroded and now totally obliterated - WHY??? There are things I’m just not interested in so why make me wade through them to find what I am interested in and then bury it so deep I can’t find it anyway? Very poor UX

New version quite unusable. I can not recommend the new version of this App it has turned a usable and informative app into a jumble of content. I can no longer find what I want as the topics that interest me are just tossed together into a mess. I used to come to the app every day a number of times but now I find I am just too frustrated when I try to make sense of it. Why this is better than letting me have all the world stories, the UK stories and the other topics of interest in single lists across the screen I cannot fathom unless it is to appeal to someone who values chaos over order. I can not recommend this now.

Politically neutral new from around the world.. There is no better, there is no other news service like it.

Where’s the choice gone?. One of the things I liked about the app was an ability to personalise it, not have to read the same news as everyone else. Please bring back the ability to select topics etc

Best news app!. Ok, pop up ads are annoying. However, try finding a better app for news and sport without them! I have had this news app for years and read it everyday, it’s brilliant. Don’t listen to the whinging people. I will continue to use it and thank you!

Using way too much battery. It’s making my phone hot and using the most battery out of all my apps after a recent update. What is this app doing??? iPhone 13 mini, latest iOS.

Way to many ads and frustrating UX.. Ads everywhere, including some that break the app layout or cover content. Swipe sensitivity needs tuning so that you don’t swipe to a different article while trying to scroll down on the current one (to get past ads most likely).

Advertising ok, but automatic clickthroughs?. Fair enough to have ads; it’s a free app after all, but automatically jumping to the Apple app store, for some game I don’t want, whilst I’m trying to read an article? It’s a step too far, and reminiscent of websites of poor repute. You need to fix this.

Not bad not great but okay. These comments are not about the journalism but about the app itself. Overall I find the app not as intuitive as many others and quite clunky. As many reviews have stated the adverts are a put off, I agree. I do notice the really long drawn-out ads seem to have diminished in time – thank goodness. Crashes frequently. I have used this app for at least five years and think it's always been great but the past couple of months have been extremely frustrating because it crashes every time I try to use it, sometimes within minutes of accessing it 😡

Biased. Biased reporting in many areas, for example in South Asian Political matters. After seeing repeated one-side reported, I was disappointed and deleted the app as I had to cross-check their stories to find the missing key elements.

Newest version ruined app. This app used to be my #1 source for news. But recently it’s full of adds that obscure some content. Then in the latest update, they removed carousel view. I loved being able to quickly glance through many stories sorted by region. Now the story headers are larger & I can only see 4 or so on my screen at a time (plus ads, of course). It feels frustrating and claustrophobic. I sense I’ll miss a lot of content and be forced toward certain stories more than with the old view. This is no longer an enjoyable browsing experience, so I’m out.

Good news but terrible app. -Videos often don’t load -ads pop up out of nowhere, blocking content -links are often broken

Data Mining Without Consent & Layout Blunder. My word.. stealing loads of data without our consent, are we? Funny that would be the default. Also, why *remove* functionality in choosing a layout? Could it because you've made room for the double-sized adverts now? Thank god it's blocked but the app now looks absolutely atrocious.

Latest update completely eliminates My News, obscures some categories.. I was disheartened to discover, upon opening the updated app today, that I can no longer easily access any of the news that I've been following through the BBC app for the last several years. There used to be a My News tab at the bottom that led to a page of articles in categories I had identified as favourites. Apparently, this no longer exists. What's more: the categories themselves aren't listed on the Topics page, so I can't even go to individual categories to find the news myself without digging through the Top Stories page for recent top articles from those topics. This has reduced the BBC app to the equivalent of every other news app I have on my iPad, rendering it entirely obsolete for my use.

Terrible update. The loss of My News and the mandatory curation of topics makes this app totally inflexible. What a disastrous design. I want to be able to choose what to see and not search through layers of topics I could care less about.

Change your name BBC. You people know what BBC means, right? Aside from the terrible choice of name, BBC is the typical fake, biased propaganda of mainstream media, with creepy war propaganda and social indoctrination posing as news. At least print newspapers from terrible fake news orgs like yourself may be used to line the bird cage.

Why has it become so US centric?. Decreasing actual news, mostly ‘human interest’ items. Also far too many American articles - if you go to the bbc for news then it would seem reasonable that you are looking for British content in the main. Then you insist on including sports headlines that have spoiler results in the title. Add to all that the advertisements that obscure the information are annoying. All in all, very poor.

A Great News Platform. The GUI is very easy to use and, while I have had issues with the app crashing in its previous iterations, it is now very stable and user-friendly. I appreciate being able to tailor my newsfeed to include news from different regions of the globe and encompassing a broad range of topics.

Biased. Journalists are supposed to be unbiased in their reporting.

Rubbish. Latest update took a so so app and c turned into garbage. The removed the “for you” section where you could choose what feeds you want and replaced it with a morass of garbage feeds you can’t get rid of or even rearrange. This need to be fixed asap or this app goes in the bin

Buggy. This app UI is very buggy. Images don’t load. Stories cover other stories. The main page is jumbled.

BBC. This is the most wonderful app in existence.

STEALING DATA. This app says you can stop data tracking but will not allow you to adjust your privacy settings. Everything else in the settings menu works except for “do not sell my data” It’s just a dead button

Category labels give Canada a bad name. It’s frustrating to see news about Canada labeled under the category US & Canada. Canadians don’t consider ourselves American, and the chaos that ensues regularly in the US is not representative of Canada. It would be nice if our news stood on its own.

News without hype. BBC has the advantage of being a mature news service that evolved due to it’s exposure as the representative of a very global empire. Lately the app jerked a lot whilst scrolling. I just reinstalled and that seemed to help.

Pop up ads badly integrated in app. The pop up ads supported by the app interfere with accessing the stories it pops up in front of and there is no way to close the ad.

Reporting in Canada. I would have given a higher star rating if news reported in Canada were accurate. Instead when reporting on COVID-19 the BBC puts Canada in the same league as the USA. Canada has a 10th if the population of the US, it’s closed it’s borders with the US except for essential workers, and the US has 100 times the cases of COVID-19. Canada has done a great job in controlling this disease and is not seeing the increase in new cases now being experienced in America. Please BBC get the facts when you report about COVID-19 in the America’s!!

BBC and a Canada. Always have appreciated the news presented by BBC. As a Canadian I always like to check out other points of view. The only thing I do not like is the grouping of Canada with the USA as North America. Cannot figure out why you do that when you don’t group all the European countries as EU. Canada and the US are distinctly two different counties.

Misinformation in another Guise. Errors of deliberate non information, are one of Orwell’s precepts that BBC follows to a T. But a corporation funded by Saudi Oil money spreading its corporate legs for money is nothing new. The destruction of the English way of life is the new thing. You should be proud prostitutes.

Pros and cons / basically just opinion pieces. They have quite the variety of topics, and a rather decent platform to further specify which areas one would like to keep an eye on; however, the quality of each article I’ve read recently is below poor, as they usually present a shallow take/opinion based off of a one-sided stance on a subject. I’m not sure if it’s simply the level of journalism that’s out there today, but I’m disappointed to say the least. I would like to see much more work put into each story by theirs writers, more work involving interviewing opinions from both sides of an argument, and finding scientific studies to use as ground points. You can’t simply just state “Jane doe’s study found X” and then not link the study.

good news new layout sucks. why can't we select which topics i want on the app anymore? i don't care about sports, i want actual global news which the bbc is good for on the website but no longer on the app.

Great news service, mediocre app. This rating is for the app. It’s really worse and worse with every “update”, now getting stuck in certain stories without the possibility of going back to the main menu. Just sloppy programming. However, I’d give 5 stars to BBC content. It remains my most trusted news source.

Cannot select topics of interest. Why remove being able to select topics of interest? That is the main feature of any news app. App feels so broken now.

Bias reporting. The news largely published are one sided.

Where are the pictures?. Since the update before this one about a 1/3 of the pictures no longer load-ever. This latest upload didn’t fix the problem. Also, not impressed with the excessive number of grammatical errors, words written in the wrong order and miss used words, as in it’s a similar sounding word but with a completely different meaning and spelling. If you can’t even proof read your articles, what’s the chances you’ve checked your “facts.”

Persistent format issues after multiple releases. On my iPhone 14 Plus, iOS version 16.4 - I keep getting overlapping article thumbnails and blank areas in the top stories feed as I scroll. The only way to fix this is to scroll past the issue and then scroll back up and the formatting fixes itself but this requires basically scrolling almost all the way to the bottom and then back up. Not sure how this keeps getting missed in testing before release as it’s a very user visible issue. Makes the experience very annoying.

Too American. This service should be the BRITISH broadcasting , but it seems to be skewed towards American news more so than anything.

Intrusive advertising & data breaches. The ads that this brings up are so spooky that I had to delete the app after many years. The info it is using can only come from my personal email and google maps tracking where I’ve been. Enough! Not worth the intrusion into my personal life.

App hog. Constantly runs in the background and you can’t turn that function off. Deleted it.

Do not update. This was one of the last news app where you could have a compact view... no longer. Now it is just like all the other useless news apps: tons of big pictures, ads, videos... At least there’s still Reuters and to some extent the Guardian which have not completely sold out to the HDD crowd

Feeling type cast. I like bbc news a lot I’m originally from uk living in Canada the only thing I would like to see is Canada separate from the USA we are nothing like them when people around the world read the bad news from the USA they think we are part of their charade please label us separately

Annoying ads. After using this BBC app as my main source of unbiased news for many years, the frequency of the same full screen UPS ad has got too annoying. Deleted!

BBC is now a tool for leftist liberal propaganda.. Having shunned values that made the UK a great nation this news agency is now for anything that is against traditional and family based values. What’s more surprising is that it now also cannot find any fault with communists like China.

Poorly implemented. In line adverts move out of place and obscure articles. Back button on article didn’t work. A list of articles is really easy to do, why is it so bad?!

No customizable topics. The update removed the ability to follow parts of the world you are interested in. Will probably stop using for this reason.

Most reliable source for global news. I check the BBC in my inbox every morning and throughout the day. Without fail they are miles ahead of the pack and deliver the most professional, reliable and thoughtful broadcasts - always without bias. The broadcast always ends on an upnote and a touch of humor if appropriate. This is made possible because of the unbiased content. In comparison, it is almost embarrassing to watch any of our N. American news channels. Please BBC, do not stop broadcasting to this news-starved continent, the world needs more of your intelligence, skill and organization.

Pandemic coverage.. The coverage of the pandemic as it pertains to the U.K. government has been biased and has totally lacked any objectivity. Gloom and doom, negative, negative, drives sane people up the wall! I am really surprised that you are not understanding the public’s mood who themselves are helping each other during this crisis in any way they can. It’s a pandemic! It’s unprecedented! Have there been mistakes? Of course. Have there been successes? Of course but all you write and report about is the negative side of the house.........WHY?? Are you really so angry the Tories won the last election???

The recent update ruined the app usability. I don’t really mind the change in the interface, but whenever I try to navigate every 5 seconds or so, it keeps on opening full screen ads to the point it’s unusable. It has so much ads that I two full screen ads taking over my screen on top of one another. Ad videos are auto playing in full screen video player and unskippable full screen ads also pop out on opening articles. Reading news now feels like playing a children’s mobile game drenched with ads. I cannot recommend this to anyone if this doesn’t get fixed.

Ads load slow. I get that many apps have adds. I accept those for not paying for said apps. What I don’t like is that the space for the ads isn’t relatively fixed in the page. I find a story I want to read and by the time my thumb gets there I’ve selected the wrong story or an ad because the page loads slow. Maybe you can put a placeholder for the ad then let it render so it doesn’t mess up the placement of the remainder of the content?

Mostly just heavily slanted, leftist propaganda masquerading as objective news. The British equivalent of NPR - state funded, mockingbird media designed to shape the opinions of the general public in the interests of the globalist elites. Also a treasured source of “irrefutable” current talking points that the non personal characters rely upon to feed their hive mind. Anyone with even rudimentary critical thinking skills should be able to see through the thinly disguised communist regurgitations and constant virtue signaling that permeate nearly every article. I’d give it a 0 if I could. But occasionally there’s something worth reading. Don’t bother to download.

Big step BACKWARD. I’ve never found this app particularly great - the articles that are readily available seem rather limited in number. But the previous version did it’s job in providing the main news of the day. This latest version is a big step backwards however. There’s no easy way to return to the top of a section. And why would you remove any ability to even attempt to tailor the news feed according to interest?

Works well, though it has its quirks.. The app is a bit of a mess. It frequently gets unstable and scrolling becomes intolerably jumpy. Restarting the app helps for a little while. It also has a number of odd quirks: It has a habit of sending you to the top of a given list of stories when navigating back to the list from a given story, which is frustrating when you are trying to work through a list but don't want to read everything. It also has the occasional habit of sending you to random list/stories when you tap on a story.

App crashes all the time. Good reporting and writing but the app crashes one to four times daily when I’m trying to read the 10 most read news stories. It seems to really not like you to use the back button (<). It does come up and ask if you want to report it and I’ve checked to always report but it has been doing this for over 9 months and no fix has come out yet.

No customisation any more?. Since the “upgrade” (fancy new graphics) the app can’t be customised. So I can only read the news the app editor has decided I can read. Previously you could select the topics you want to read, that option appears to have disappeared. Impossible to find UK wide stories (only Scotland, Wales and N Ireland separately) which is the main reason for choosing a UK news channel. It’s pretty much pointless now.

Terrible adverts & awful choice of articles. Ok so you fixed the bugs with the floating ads. That took long enough. Now the app has all these US election banners that if you scroll past one and you have any audio app playing the radio for example it stop the app from playing. My other gripe is the quality of the articles, it seems like it’s all doom and gloom, you used to have interesting thoughtful articles to read but now you have to dig for those articles, you only get war and politics as the top stories.

Odd rerouting. I have enjoyed reading the news on this app for the past few months since COVID started. However, there have been over 100 times where I had clicked on a specific thumbnail to read the article and was rerouted to an entirely unrelated article. If this is a bug or something fishier I am unsure, but I am sure that it is extremely irritating. Had to uninstall.

Poor session storing. When using the app it is frustrating that when I go to do something like check email for a moment the app goes back to beginning. By this I mean that it doesn’t retain where I am in the app even for a short time. I may have scrolled 3/4 down the page but am returned to the top and have to go find the articles that I was reviewing again. Otherwise the app is easy to use.

Years Worth of Quality Now Missing. The most recent update changing the interface and layout has made this app hardly worth using. I’m no longer able to customize My News or remove topics I do not care to see. I’d been using this app for nearly 10 years and greatly enjoyed the quality and simplicity to the design, but this is a major step backward. Please provide the option for users to revert to the previous view of the app, otherwise I encourage users to check out Reuters or Ground News for their daily news.

Almost perfect. The app does the basics well, and content is solid as always. There’s a few bugs with banners rendering in the homepage, but this is minor. The most annoying bug is that the download of articles just doesn’t work. It’s frustrating because can’t read on a flight or on the subway.

Noisy audio ads. UPDATE: Sorry to say that I have to delete this app because of the raucous auto play ad that comes up. I have autoplay set to NEVER in Settings but it still assaults my ears and has no off/skip button . . . . . . I like the news, but the audio that starts soon after starting the app is driving me buggy - no way to turn them off!! Give us an off button, please.

Why no images?. There are many things about this content I like, but also one gripe. It is any day of the week when scrolling through stories, some show correctly and others show a grey space where images should have been. On those occasions where I have searched the website for the story, I can find it with images, so why not in the app?

Latest update is time travel to the past. Why oh why did they have to remove the personalisation feature ?? Now I can’t find the news I want to see quickly, I get news in my face for places I don’t care about, the complete organisation of the app has gone. It’s like someone wanted to prove themselves and took the app back 10 years!! I’ll probably end up deleting it now because it’s too much trouble to find what want to read - the previous version was so much better

Too many buggy and disgusting ads. The app prioritizes loading ads before anything else, even the articles and any images or videos therein. They often load on top of content which obscures what you’re trying to see. The majority of these ads don’t even give an option to hide the ad anymore, and so many have been completely disgusting closeups of teeth, spaghetti that looks like it went bad a week ago, and worse. What a dramatic fall from what was once a useful app which is now almost completely unusable

Love the Beeb!. I started listening to the Beeb when I was working in Singapore for 3 years during the 80’s. It was the best programme available. Add to that the fine grammar, a relaxing tempo, interesting content, and a feel of veracity. That all combined to make an enjoyable, dependable provider of news and other genuinely interesting stories. It has remained so for over 30 years. Definitely my favorite. From Nevada across the pond.

Bring back the old version!. The new layout and UIX do a disservice to the BBC’s news content. It used to be my first news read, but now it looks like dumbed down click-bait with the weighty news stories lost amidst the insignificant. Graphic artists may prefer the new version’s increased white space, smaller pics, and reduced editorial curation, but it’s a big step backwards for those of us who care about the content. I’ll now take the NYT, WSJ or even the AP apps over this.

News no longer updates. This was my daily news source checked multiple times each day and would be 5 star but After recent update, the news does not update or refresh but is days old. I have to remove app and reload from the App Store each time I check news to refresh to current stories. Realized was an issue with app as stories would get more out of date this week (17hr, 2d) but would change to new info when I reinstalled. Please fix the refresh issue!!!

What were they thinking. The app us admittedly better than ever, (from 1star to 3) but that is still, I think, quite far from perfect. Every time I scroll through a list of articles the app reverts to the top of the list. Is it doing this because it's refreshing it connection or it's data? I do not know, but the result is an extremely frustrating experience. I was so frustrated on several occasions after 5 or 6 try's to get to an article I nearly punched the phone as if that would make the app stop torturing me! Thats how ridiculous this bug is. The prominent adds persist and now on a random basis pop ups entirely block the article you selected to read. Still a bit far from 'fit for purpose'. And now it’s so jumpy it’s mostly impossible to use. WHY CAN’T YOU PEOPLE GET THIS RIGHT?

Apps keeps automatically closing on my iPhone 7plus. It closes automatically despite deleting and reinstalling twice and rebooting device numerous times. Please fix, as your app is my go to for news. I love it. Only way I can read is without app and on the web.

Great until following topics was taken away. I enjoyed the app until the update that took away the My News personalized feed. I had followed topics relating to where friends and family live and my own personal interests. Now that the section has been taken away, I find myself using the app less and less, as I can’t easily see the news for the places I want to. This feels like it should be a basic function of a news app. It’s no longer easy to find news I want to see.

Good news, bad app. The news source is excellent and some of the most well written and topical stories you can find but the app itself leaves quite a bit to be desired. The ads they auto stream to you will actually pause your currently playing audio and won’t restart it once you scroll past. This happens for each story you open and even when on the same story you scroll back up to the top past the ad again. Not great if you’re listening to music or podcasts

Uplifting!. These are the times that tire our souls and every article that shows the finest in human spirit helps us get through the day. We are in lockdown because of our age—-we have been young for a very long time and because of preexisting conditions. Thank you for making the often tedious and forlorn time a little brighter for us....

Downward spiral. I’m a longtime user, and the newly redesigned app is a step backward. Chief complaint: If there’s a way to choose categories of news you want to see, as in the past, it’s impossible to find. Consequently, everyone who looks at “Sports” must see golf, and no one can see, say, cycling. Advertisements—often the same one every few paragraphs—clutter and interrupt stories. Generally speaking, less content is available, and what is available is less coherently organized. Boo!

UI Overhaul BIG mistake. Whoever made the decision to change the UI of the news app really needs to not have input on UI design of the app anymore. What a terrible redesign. Sure now instead of seeing all my news stories for US on on page I can scroll through. I have to find the US on the long list of other topics to see just two news stories and then click on the us link that is buried between two other clickable points so I can see the rest of the US news. Never go full engineer. And y’all went full engineer to the moon and back.

Worst news app. This has to be one of the worst news app I have ever downloaded. I have deleted it four times in the last two years. Reloaded it after updates and still have the same issues with it. Aside from the app I dont know who puts up the stories and who is in charge of proofing it. But whoever isn’t doing there job or they just do not know how to spell. Either way a news station this big having these issues is very embarrassing if you ask me. I would give half a star if it was an option!!!! Don’t waste your time if you want clear good news

Slow, so slow. The app seems to be bogged down by how it handles videos and ads. I’m on an iPhone XR and still have trouble scrolling through content. The pages become slow and jittery, with most ads failing to load and leaving a blank space. I don’t have this sort of problem with any other app. Usually I select videos by mistake as I try to force the page to scroll and then get stuck with a slow video load I can’t stop. This needs some design changes.

Great news source. Horrible app.. Several years ago, I submitted a bug report about ads covering content in the app with detailed steps to replicate. I never got a response, and the bug still persists years later. This is in addition to many other bugs and frustrating behavior with the design of this app. Don’t get me started on the video player. I don’t even bother with videos in-app. Ugh… please find a better mobile app framework and re-build this app from the ground up! The editorial side is great, but it’s packaged with the most awful UI/UX!

Fast. I’m a cureless news junkie, and I’m also interested in how the news gets reported. Via some of my research, I can say that this app will send you a push notification on average 10 minutes after an event happens, and sometimes as quick as 4. I got notified of the Paris attacks in 3 minutes, from across the world.

Still Bad after all these years!. Buggy and glitchy, and so eager to show you adverts it will blorp them around in your feed and reposition them over actual content rendering it inaccessable! Also love when the articles sort of stack-shuffle to prioritize adverts so you can see them but cannot click on any! I’m loving the new feature that traps you in an article by rendering the back button useless! WOOT!

Astounding. This app functions nicely, if the intent is to publish op/ed columns under the guise of actual journalism. Objectivity and tolerance are both words that have been lost from the English language... most notably BBC’s NA & political editor. Truly amazing, objective articles can be found scrolling through science, astronomy, physics, and archaeology categories. And many others. But the US and NA news makes no attempt to present an unbiased fact based article. See: PROPAGANDA definition... information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view.

New Updated App Hard to Use. Prior to the recent new update, I had enjoyed using the app. However, the new update is making the app harder to use. The My News section is gone so I can’t customize the articles and topics I would like to see. The layout doesn’t feel functional - it feels clunky and awkward. There is also no search function in the app. Overall the new update is a disappointment. Please bring back some of the features from the previous version.

Great app, except video. As an American reader, I increasingly appreciate the BBC’s content and counterpoint to US news sources. The app itself is well designed and easy to use. Just one problem: an increasing focus on video content. I simple don’t have time to sit through videos, and video content rarely if ever is presented with a transcript, or accompanied by a written counterpart. As a result, the app is increasingly less useful as more and more content shifts to video. A preferences filter to limit video content would make this a 5-star app.

Ads, ads, ads. It started with small, unobtrusive ads embedded in articles. Then you were forced to watch 30 second ads at the beginning of short video clips (the ads were often longer than the news clips themselves). Then an ad would pop up and fill the entire screen every time you opened any article. AND NOW VIDEO ADS REPEATEDLY FILL THE ENTIRE SCREEN AS SOON AS YOU OPEN AND SCROLL THROUGH EVERY ARTICLE!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I CAN’T EVEN READ ONE ARTICLE WITHOUT 2 VIDEO ADS POPPING UP??? I’m getting rid of this app. There are much better ways to get news.

Terrible update. I’m so lost, why would you destroy such a great app? No more personal news tab? This was such a wonderful feature! New layout is terrible! Bunch of giant photos and I’m only able to see 1 or 2 headlines at a time? I loved being able to quickly scan for articles that I wanted to read but now it’s an arduous task to swipe and swipe and swipe and tap and swipe. Leonardo da Vinci said it best, keep it simple! Deleted this immediately after using it for several years and it was great!

Minimalism at its worst. This is quite possibly one of the worst updates I have ever had for an app. It completely takes away from the function by not having My News as an option or even being able to sort the topics by categories of interest. There is not even a search bar to look for a topic. normally wait for an additional update to see if there has been an improvement but this is really terrible. Very disappointing.

New format. Same as all the other reviews from the last week or so. The new format is awful. The best part for me (and it would appear most others) was the My News. That’s gone and instead I now scroll through several topics I have no interest in and end up just closing the app. Maybe letting their advertisers know about this mess might help? Don’t know if anyone has suggested it yet. Sounds like a lot of us have dumped the app and hearing that might get their attention.

Not on keel as could be.. Very much like iPad app presentation - ability to quickly find wide scope if news. It is one of two go-to's for news. It sure would br refreshing to report the news what anyone is doing right in leadership. Pessimism & sarcasm are arduous and a turn-off to want to go to site for the articles within. Your talented hard work would be so greatly best received if a reader was not left feeling more down visiting.

HAS accessibility features. REVISED REVIEW: THIS MORNING, MY VIDEOS HAD CAPTIONS! THANK YOU!!!! 5 STARS!! #ACCESSIBILITY I appreciate a better view of the news from all over the world. However, please add captioning to the videos to make them more accessible, not just for those with hearing loss, but it would benefit those who can't have the sound up and want to know what the video is about. Everyone wins!

Please bring back My News. The Beeb has always been my go-to for news and I rely on the app even more as an ex pat living abroad. Being able to keep up with the latest goings on in the UK is incredibly important to me. I also love being able to cherry pick some happier subjects to read about as a much needed antidote to the usual news cycle. Removing the My News tab and a reader’s ability to curate their own news feed was a bizarre and bad decision. Please give your readers back the control they deserve and add My News asap!

Update downgraded app. I have used this app for years with no problems. Just a few weeks ago, however, that all changed. The main problem is that it doesn’t update. I just opened it and all the news items are at least one day old! What’s the point of having old news? Also, as you page down looking at the top stories page, some stories are repeated up to three times. Has the world run out of news? Have they lost their reporters and writers? I’m very disappointed.

Buggy. First, this app is usually wonderful and I love it. However, for the last couple of days, almost every article I try to open says “There was a problem loading this content. Please check your internet connection and try again.” Obviously I have internet connection because the mobile website works fine and I can write and post this review 🤦‍♂️

Horrible. Why the freak would you get this corrupted media source in where it not only tracks you, but provides false information, on a variety of factors. Not only that but this app uses phrases stated 5-10 years ago to favor a politician to either look bad or credible, and this app has changed TREMENDOUSLY throughout the years, I honestly don’t even trust 80% of what this app brings to the table and unless you are interested in something other than crime, politics, or headlines, don’t get this app as it will literally brainwash you and come to false conclusions.

UI Feedback. The UI is great for the most part. However O cannot see the text I am typing right now for this feedback. Also, your vid live videos don’t align with the headline. Hope you can read this feedback because again, no words are populating this space as I type. I’m sure there are spelling errors.

The update to the app has made it terrible. Before the update, I could choose the subjects that meant something to me, or were of interest. After the update, I am forced to wade through category after category that I don't care about. Cricket, football, rugby, tennis, formula one, golf... I don't want to see these categories, and before the update I didn't, because I could deselect them. The subjects I DO care about are now longer offered, making this app worthless to me. If you want to see relevant news, almost any other news app is more useful. Uninstalling now.

Was good before now unusable. It was good before, a month or so ago I realized a lot of stuttering when trying to scroll to the point where the whole app would freeze. I just uninstalled and reinstalled because I just couldn’t scroll, sometimes it would open and freeze immediately. Used to be great but idk what happened now. I’m using my iPhone X so I don’t think it’s due to outdated hardware and this is the only app that does this. Giving 2 stars for now because I literally can’t use it anymore with the freezes.

Oh no !!!!. I have loved this app for awhile now. I live in the USA and trying to find a news app that is NOT trying to push their own agenda is impossible so I went to outside news sites and fell in love with this app, I get news from around the world so I feel informed. Then you changed the layout now the only stories I can read are the ones you choose, now it just feels like US news apps. I’m so very upset.

Great for lovers of tiny fonts!. Lovely tiny font, it's got. Which cannot be changed within the App itself. Nope, you gotta go to System Settings on your device and do it there. Which means of course that EVERYTHING will then present in large font which is not what I want to do AT ALL. And those intrusive ads that suddenly appear right in the middle of paragraphs as you're reading or scrolling, OMG, how annoying is that. Which is why when I want to catch the beeb nowadays, I typically use Safari instead - what with its zoom options, and ad-blockers, why even bother with the irksome app!
