This app needs some development work.. This app is NOT user friendly. The way the graphics work (like pressing buttons and opening new menus) is laggy, and how long it takes certain pages to load makes it hard to use. It also doesn’t have consistent functionality across the app for things like entering the dates you read books and adding/removing books from your shelves. The badge notifications also don’t always go away all the time after I open the app to read a notification. The one thing that also drives me crazy is when apps reload when you navigate away from them and then back to them. I was writing a review and was completely done and about to save it when I got a phone call. I went back to the app after the phone call ended, and the app reloaded, which deleted my entire review. I had to go back and write the entire thing again, which was extremely annoying. I like the convenience of this app, and I think it has a lot of great features. I just think the development side could use some work.

PLEASD ADD!!. I LOVE goodreads, don’t get me wrong. I have been using it for around 2 years now and it has been wonderful, however it is missing something many book lovers crave. STATS! Graphs!! There is a way to access some graphs, however there is some major problems with those. Primarily being it is hard to find and only on computer versions of the app, so mobile users can not find it (at least I have not been able to on my phone). Second problem is with the graphs themselves, there is no way to look at a specific month or year which can be very annoying when there is an outlier or large scale that ruins most of the data since the graph is zoomed out to much (found this to be true especially with the dates published section). Also Goodreads is missing graphs like what genres we read the most or the pace of books. I find a lot of readers have been switching to Storygraph, which does have all those graphs, however the app is annoying in the areas that goodreads excels at and ultimately isn’t worth it for me. However the graphs are worth it for a lot of people, so Goodreads PLEASE add a bigger stats emphasis!

Good but could use some improvements. Overall, I think this is a decent app for tracking your reading progress (though by no means the only one in its category). The process of finding a book, adding it to your shelf, tracking its progress, and leaving a review is simple and easy. It’s when you spend a little more time on it that I think it could use improvement. I’ve included my complaints/suggestions below in order from most to least important. 1.)the thing that I find most annoying about this app is that when I go to edit down my want-to-read shelf, it constantly refreshes the page even if I’m not actually removing a book from it. Like I’ll click a book just to remind myself what it’s about, and when I click to go back to the shelf, it will refresh the page and I’ll have to scroll back down to where I was. It’s both annoying and inefficient to constantly have to be scrolling down the shelf to find my place (especially because I have A LOT 2.) shelf won’t load beyond a certain point if you have a lot of books 3.) if I’ve DNFd a book, there’s no option but to add it to my read shelf, even if I add it to my separate DNF shelf 4.) adding a book to want to read shelf as part of a giveaway

This could be better. I like the app a lot. I like the fact that I can see what my friends are reading and get a perspective on a book that they loved. It also helps me find something that is worth reading.. but my problem is that I’m only limited to the friends that has been registered on Good Reads. Granted for the fact that I can invite friends but I believe this app would be better if we could follow anyone regardless of favorite author, friends and family. There are some celebrities, musicians, and also Sober bloggers that I admire and would love to see what they are reading. I think this app can be something popular if they opened it up to more celebrities or inspirational speakers. I love my friends but I want to know what Laura Mckowen, Talib Kweli, Jimmy Fallon, and more are reading. I want to see what they find as good reads for them. I also think this would expose people to more authors and help them gain more revenue for their books. So that way authors can write more books!

Past Challenges Info Changed Retroactively. I've always re-read my favorite books, not only because they're like old friends, but also to aid with anxiety. This challenge is simply a way for me to keep track of what I read each year, not to impress people with my literary prowess. But I digress... In previous years, there was not a good way to count books that you'd re-read unless you changed the dates, making it look like a new book. Now that we can put dates in for re-reads, and the app is showing past challenges, it's only counting the last time I read the book, which has changed the results of my past challenges retroactively. The update has applied new rules to periods in which those rules did not exist. In order for it to display the correct information -correct as of the year it occurred- I'll have to go in and add dates to all the books I have re-read since the actual re-read feature was implemented. Since we're talking 3 years and hundreds of books, this is going to be a huge pain in the neck. I'm not a happy girl.

needs a revamp. i use this app religiously but it needs an revamp BAD. the UI looks like it hasnt changed since day 1 and itd be nice if i could see my friends activity more often than i see ads on my feed 😑. would be nice if we could personalize our profiles, but not necessary. also recommendations or searching through genres could be greatly enhanced by further filtering of intended audiences—i dont want to scroll through twenty 20 childrens fantasy books before even finding one mediocre adult fantasy book im not interested in. ABSOLUTELY would benefit from half star rating system or even 10 star rating system im tired of seeing a 3 star review with “3.5 stars …” or a 1 star review with “0.5 stars…” in the actual review. the app is also not super user friendly and is generally clunky. lots of unnecessary tapping needed and idk what it is but the searching function is super clunky too. i feel like the search option should first search our shelves for matches before searching the rest of the database for matches. definitely need a multi-select option to make shelving multiple books easier. i have over 300 books in my read im not reshelving each individual book, jeffrey. add tags in reviews so we can filter by tags. basically more filtering options for everything. add private reviews only your friends can see so that they dont affect the overall review of the book (sometimes you can acknowledge a book is well-written and still hate it).

Something is wrong with the “add/edit dates read” feature. Anytime I read a book that I’ve read before, the activity history doesn’t reflect the new dates. It will list the first time I read the book and the second time I read the book, but it will continue to say “the last read on” date is the first time I read it. When you click “add/edit dates read” it lists both sets of dates read, but when i click on “see all activity on this book” and then click “edit review” it only lists the first date read and nothing else. Even when I try to edit that date it won’t reflect the change. Even when I’ve deleted the entry of the original dates just to test it out, it still only lists the original dates in the “edit review” section and on the main page for the book for the “last date read”. This has happened to me on multiple books and it just doesn’t make any sense that the section for the “add/edit dates read” doesn’t sync up with the “see all your activity on this book”. It drives me a little bit insane honestly.

Not advertised as social media. The only apps I use more than Goodreads are my bank app and Libby. I started using it long before I had my kindle, and the fact that the kindle connects to my Goodreads has made the whole experience even more enjoyable. This is a unique way to experience where your friends are at in life without the overwhelming TMI of social media. I also cannot rave enough about the reliability of book recommendations within the app. It seems that the more you read, the better it knows what you be interested in. I’ve been googling what books to read for YEARS and have more DNFs than I can count. Since I started using Goodreads in conjunction with Libby, I have the even larger issue of wanting to read every book on my TBR list at the same time- And that’s another thing! Goodreads makes tracking your books INSANELY easy. What you’ve read, want to read, and the progress in the book you’re currently reading. It even has a yearly reading challenge that lets you set your own goal (I’ve had to increase mine twice since January because I’m moving through books faster than ever before). This app is my favorite app.

App has some bugs/could also simply be better than it is in general. When I first got the app - I was disappointed in some of the features. But they were small things. Like if I accidentally friend requested someone with a similar name to who I actually meant to request - I can’t cancel that request. I have to wait and see if that person accepts it before I can unadd them. But my most recent issue has to be a Bug. It didn’t used to be a problem. It’s glitching when you enter dates read for a book that you’ve read more than once. At first, it made both sets of dates match. Then after I tried to enter a complaint or ticket to Goodreads, they did respond saying they’re working on it but I woke up to find my latest most recent read of the book was completely gone, removing it from my current reading challenge, and it was replaced with the original year I’d read the book. I barely remembered my most recent start date in order to fix it. I recommend buying a book journal or keeping track in a document on your computer as well as using Goodreads because you can’t rely on Goodreads to keep your records accurate.

Other than porn spam, this app is amazing. I absolutely love goodreads! There are so many features and I love being able to see what friends are reading, and also looking back on the books I’ve read. Additionally, the want to read list is really helpful so I can just look on it when I want to check out a book at the library. For the first year of using this app, I encountered zero problems. However, I have recently started getting random likes and follows on my account and their profiles have links to porn websites. I keep getting more and more every week and it have come to the point where I get at least one per day. Every time I make an update, it gets celebrated with sometimes up to 6 likes from these spam accounts. I’m getting tired of constantly getting notifications and then having to block and flag them. I’ve reached out to goodreads and it seems like this is a common problem, but all they told me to do is to flag it. I’m really hoping an update is made so I don’t have to deal with this spam anymore. It is getting really annoying.

Needs updating badly.. I used Good reads a long time ago. And then didn’t use it for a long time and downloaded it again this year to track my reading. And in all those years it didn’t seem to get any kind of updating. The layout and the beige color of it all jut seem so out of date and out of touch. Also, there are “groups” but they are not easy to figure out. It’d be nice to have it be more interactive so you and your friends could really use it better to talk about books and keep each other accountable. I like it for the ability to track the books I’ve read and read and leave reviews. But the interaction feature needs to be better, like a lot better in 2021 and this is stuck in 2010. Also, make lists searchable by a key term or two scrolling through list after list after list to try and find something interactive is tedious. I’d give it a 5 star if they update even just the groups and made them more intuitive, easier to use, and enjoyable.

Hi Goodreads. PLEASE ADD THESE THINGS. This app is wonderful. It is almost perfect. BUT every person I’ve talked to who uses Goodreads have all been in agreement it would be a GAME CHANGER if these were added: 1) A 0.5 star option. It sounds silly but it can be so frustrating deciding if a book it 4 or 5 stars. If there was a 4.5 option for example, I think all my life problems would be solved. 2) Private ratings. I’m sure if you’re an app developer you know of Letterboxd, and for me personally, if some similar features could be added to Goodreads that would make it just *chefs kiss*. For example: one of my favorite things about Letterboxd is how your ratings don’t account to a larger average rating for a movie (but in this case it would be a book). You can rate a movie and write your OWN review describing how that movie fit into your personal taste. I would love to see this on Goodreads in a way in which I could do a private review (almost like a personal diary) rather than a public rating. Sometimes i’ll read a book and recognize it’s objectively a great book, but I might give it two starts because maybe that sub-genre of fantasy romance wasn’t up my alley, so maybe that review would be nice to have in a personal journal rather than a public one because my review is sort of niche. I hope this makes sense. :))) I LOVE THIS APP!!!

Perfect for any bookworm, avid reader or librarian!. I absolutely love Goodreads and the app too! I use it to keep track of everything I read and want to read. It’s perfect for that! Because I’m a librarian, I love doing book reviews too! I like reading other people reviews too but never read others reviews until after I finish the book, it’s fun to compare thoughts to both people who felt similar and even to people who have totally opposite opinions as well! The only thing I don’t like about the app versus the website version, is it’s much harder to categorize your read book or put them into “shelves” I’ve found that feature is a bit hidden on the app, and easier to do on the regular website. But the app is quick and easy for just looking for books, making your read and “want to read” lists and for reviews! I can also say as a library director, I use Goodreads all the time to look up book series order for library “patrons”/my library’s members. It’s a wonderful feature for big name authors who have 20 or more books in a series for children’s series, for looking up Amish series orders or even manga volume order. Love love love this feature. I’ve also used the list feature a few times to as a librarian to look up teen books or books related to a specific theme, whether to order for my library or for a reading challenge. Love, love, LOVE Goodreads both personally and professionally. I use it all the time, at least every week if not more!

Can’t add friends and boring profiles. My main complaint is the fact that it’s impossible to add your friends on this app! There’s so many ways that it looks like you can add them and then you try and it doesn’t work. You can’t add them through the “invite” option like you’d think. You can’t add them through sending your profile. It’s impossible. I also found that I can’t even add them through the friend search bar. The profiles are also… boring. I can barely navigate mine and honestly they’re nothing special. At the very least I’d like a better layout for the bookshelves. I hate that a few books show up and then if I really want to see anything I have to type the “see all bookshelves” button. The feed layout is also not great. Mostly ads and not much of my friends reviews or what they’ve added to their bookshelves. I got the app so I could compare with my friends and see what they’re reading and the algorithm of this app means 1/3 of what I see are my friends and the other 2/3 is just recommendations and ads. Lastly, I know this isn’t the app’s fault but man people on goodreads are critics! It seems impossible for books to have 4 stars as everyone is honestly so brutal with their reviews. Failing to see the good things and only highlighting the bad. Wish that there was a nicer community on goodreads. People are also super rude in comments on reviews as well, goodreads needs to do better at keeping the bullying to a minimum.

Great app but not complete. This app has so many great features and is so widely used that it becomes very easy to find and connect with your friends. The apps ability to scan barcodes to add books to your lists is wonderful and keeping track of all your books, progress, and previously read books is very easy. I do, however, wish they would add a feature that allowed you to take notes on the book as you read. The only thing I’ve found that is close to this is the ability to write a little statement while doing a progress update on a book you’re currently reading. But not only is this public for all of your friends to see and be annoyed by the constant updates on their timeline, but it also has a character restriction so you can only type as much as it allows (usually not enough to fit a full quote). Highly disappointed in that aspect but otherwise a good app.

Great if you’re willing to give up some time!. This app is one of my main apps! I personally read consistently everyday and I LOVE to log my books online. I personally hated logging my books in elementary school on paper. But this—has so many exceptions. For the people looking to see what the heck this app even does: you can add friends to see books they’re reading and if you want can compete. You can ofc log books! You cannot read books, this is not an online library! But it seriously has EVERY 👏🏻 BOOK 👏🏻 EVER 👏🏻 TO 👏🏻 BE 👏🏻 WRITTEN. Not for you to read, but to update your book status! If you put in your page number, it will tell you the percentage you’re in your book. There are three different shelves you can put a book under: Want to read, Read, and Currently Reading. There’s annual challenges like the 2023 reading challenge where you can set a goal of how many books you want to read in the year and it will log them! I love this and I beg you to get it. There’s no fees at all! You also can see recommended books for you based on your previous read books so they figure your taste. It may be incorrect at first, but I now get great recommendations that I would totally read. All my bookworms, get this right now.

Needs Some Improvements. I like the app overall, but I really wish it would include a few things. I tend to listen to audiobooks, so when I switch it to that version and want to update my progress, I can’t input the time I have left listening to the book. It only allows me to input the percent or page/s I've read. I saw the developer’s suggestion to a reviewer about dividing the time read but it’s not something that as a reader I want to be concerned with. If the site/app is allowing you to select different versions/formats of the book then it should also provide a progress section that compliments the selected version/format. It would be really awesome if I could sync my Audible account the way I can with my Kindle. I like the to-read list feature because it allows me to see which book to read next. This is extremely convenient when you’re participating in a reading challenge. Overall, I enjoy the app very much and highly recommend it.

Bookshelf & ratings app. The app is great! I love that you can have friends on there and see what they read and what ratings they give books that they have read in the past. another personal favorite feature is that you can see your friends reading, goals and comment on them. I have a lot of books that I want to read, and the bookshelf, organizing feature is a lifesaver. Overall a great reading app to help stay organized and connect with your other book work friends! :) WHY NOT 5 STARS? Only frustration I have is that when you log a book the number of pages is typically incorrect. That results in your percentage, that the app calculates to be off. there should be a feature where you can manually input how many pages a book has so then your percentage can be accurate. I also use an app called beanstack and that feature is included, and it is very helpful! so if you use the pages feature, your percentage will most likely be off.

Love the website, hate the app. I love Goodreads, and use it on my laptop all of the time! However, the app is pretty terrible. It always crashes and never loads properly. The banners on the top of the home page (such as "Top Books of May" or "Book Club Picks") disappear after I click on them once, so I can only click on them if I'm ready to actually look through them very very carefully. Additionally, while it will tell me if I have a notification, it won't show me what that notification is, and the notification icon won't disappear until I view it on my laptop. Finally, it is very slow to load, far slower than other apps do on my phone, and far slower than Goodreads loads on my laptop, so I'm fairly sure it's specific to this app. I love Goodreads, but this app needs work. However, I do want to say there are some great features on the app that I do not get on my computer. Mostly, I am able to sort my lists through more criteria than I can on my phone, such as by "has the cover," "number of pages," and "number of ratings." This is very convenient, and I'm glad it's on the app!

Loading takes forever, “Read more” doesn’t let you.. ETA: Oh, look, an update and the homepage STILL won’t load! I’ve used Goodreads for years, and in general love it. The app, despite recent improvements, still drives me batty. The main problem is that Home (with all of my friends’ updates) takes *forever* to load, and often refuses to load at all, which is infuriating. The other problem is that when I see a book’s description in my home feed & want to read more, tapping on “read more” doesn’t simply expand the rest of the text, it takes me to the book’s main page, WHERE THE REST OF THE TEXT IS STILL HIDDEN!!!!!! I then have to click “read more” there, and then navigate back to my home feed, where the stupid app will have LOST MY PLACE and sent me back not the top! Come **ON**, Goodreads!!! Let me expand the text and stay on the updates screen! I don’t want to navigate back & forth & click three or four times just to see the rest of a book blurb!!!!

Good but needs a few improvements. Being a latecomer to Goodreads, I find myself going back again and again, yet feeling frustrated. Of course it’s a great place to keep track of your reading, and the reviews and collective understanding of the members are wonderful. They are thorough and thoughtful. Yet I find myself frustrated by two main disappointments. First, in making my list of books already read, inevitably I’ve added books that I’ve read as an “assignment” or on recommendation that I have NOT enjoyed, or a genre that I no longer have much involvement with (e.g. YA), yet it seems those books keep coming up in the app’s recommendations - “because you’ve read....” It would be great to be able to record the book but not have it trigger further recommendations. Second, and more importantly, I miss having a place to make personal notes and still keep an outside list of books where I have notes.

Karma. I truly enjoyed the book due to the characters. It also had a view point of what comes around goes around. The main character, Marcy, is a tired overworked divorced women who has a truly terrible ex. The ex before divorcing her empties all of their back accounts after she puts him through his schooling to be an orthodontist. He empty’s the account designated for his daughter’s college fund and does not pay child support. He is a liar and a cheat. Marcy is glad to be rid of him, but she is upset on her daughter’s behalf as the ex ignores his daughter. The story starts with Marcy being desperate for money. She works in an casino in Las Vegas as it is a better paying job. She works double shifts just to get by. It starts with a gamer who drops a hundred dollar bill. Marcy sees it and knows she has a decision to tell the man or not. She makes the decision to tell the man and tries to give him the money back. That decision opens up a new job opportunity for her and romance. Very steamy in the sex department.

Love this app!. I have adhd which makes reading difficult. It also makes it nearly impossible for me to remember what I’ve read. This app has been so helpful in that regard. I enjoy being able to track my “read” and “want to read” shelves so I never buy a book twice! Having an annual goal is really helpful too as it gives me something to work toward to keep me motivated to read. My only suggestion would be to add a new search capability. I often wind up searching for a book on my shelves when I mean to do a general search. I then get the message that says “you have no books matching [title].” At which point you have to go to another tab and retype the book in to search for it. It would be awesome if there was an option to click a button to open the general search page and run a search for that book rather than just seeing the no matches found message. Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Time AND Money saver. Good reads is amazing. Whether its the upcoming books in a certain genre updated daily, the recommendations from people with similar taste. A favorite feature of mine is the Preview feature, which allows the reader to read a few chapters (depending the the chapters lengths and books itself). With the different versions and and publications -and languages- that has saved me money. Something I wish I discovered before to save money from previous book that I ended up disliking. The slight problem I have with Goodreads is that my other bookshelves have combined with my want to read. As a reader, I will take note of upcoming and eye catching books that I might enjoy. Putting my "airballs if you will" shelf automatically in the want to read section is tiring and annoying. I can see the airball shelf itself separately, I cannot do the same with my want to reads as they combine automatically. Overall, this app is amazing has been a saving grace, and enjoyable books and reviews. Which are incredibly helpful when you find people with similar interests. My slight problem can be easily solved with a separate list of permissions in the settings to combine bookshelves.

Great for finding books but very glitchy. I really love this app and i have found some great books which i otherwise would not have had it not been for the recommendations at the end of the page for each book. Mostly id find books in lists. Like if the book i liked was in that list Id look at other books there. Recently however whenever i go to the bottom of the info page (profile page) or whaever of each book it sometimes doesn’t show the lists even though i know that i found that book from a list. Also wheneever i try to load the lists from the explore option it keeps saying load error One other thing i noticed was that sometimes i see that beneaths the books i have in my TBR there’s a preview option but someother time when i open the app its not there. There are a lot more little glitches here and there but the issue with the lists is my biggest concern because that was how i found most of the books i love. I can live with the rest

Great app. Right now I’m 15 years old and a average reader. I use this app to track my reading and also compete with my friends over our yearly goals (they’re also readers) I do have some suggestions I would love added. Currently the books tell you how far you are based off a set page number however this doesn’t take into count the fact that based on the book it might be longer or shorter making the percent off. I would love if you could edit the page numbers or maybe select out of an array of numbers based on various copies. Another thing I would love to be added was to create a sort of filler book where you can edit it and add it to your shelves if it isn’t officially published or not yet on goodreads so it would still count in your goal. One last thing I’d love is the option to have a leauge where you challenge friends based off how many books you read with rankings I think it would make this app much more fun and enjoyable for younger or older readers!

This is a privacy SCAM!. As I sit here listening to 60 Minutes report on the abuse of private data by online social media and others. In the US we have almost zero privacy. While Europeans have total control over their own data. This app might have been good. First the forced noting a rating for at least 20 books before they will give you personal recommendations. The books are thrown on the screen with no way to tell if a member has read a book or not. Now I see where the huge numbers of people who like a book are from. It’s a time consuming process and at the end, with 60 Minutes warnings in my ear, they try to force you to allow them to share your ratings with Facebook. Facebook of all the worst sites to share any info! When I declined, the app stopped until I looked at my contacts which they also want access to. THIS IS THE WORST INVASION OF PRIVACY IVE EVER SEEN. I said no to the first batch of contacts they wanted to send ads to. What horrible people these folks are. So now I am stuck with all that work and nothing more to do with the app. DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ACCESS TO YOUR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT OR YOUR CONTACTS. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHAT THIS SNEAKY APP WILL DO WITH IT. BUT YOU SHOULD PICTURE A TIME WHEN YOU APPLY FOT A JOB AND THE POTENTIAL EMPLOYER DISLIKES YOUR BOOKS READ! Be careful and stay away from this intrusive app.

Perfect for book lovers or casual readers.. I usually never write reviews, but my life as a reader was totally changed after finding this app. I love books and always have, but life keeps you busy and you end up putting things aside. Well, this app has helped me find so many books I NEED to read, and it has helped me rediscover my love for reading! I really can’t think of anything to improve. I love the layout. I love the ability to make “shelves” to save books. It even lets you track the progress of books you’re reading. You can read your friends reviews or any reviews in general. I also love that they have a vote at the end of the year (or beginning, I can’t remember) for best books in SEVERAL genres and also have best of the best and whatnot. Browsing books by categories is also great because it’s helping me find different kinds of books so my reading list can be more diverse. The only complaint I have (which actually isn’t a real complaint) is that every time I click on this app, I find a million more books I want to read and there’s no way I can read them all in my lifetime.

?????. So, I decided to wait on the update for a day or so, because I saw a couple recent reviews that were expressing issues. I figured I was happy with status quo, and was intending to take a wait and see posture. Didn’t even click the button, then change my mind, and click it to stop it. Went to open the app tonight, because I had finished a book, and it wants me to sign in. HOW COME? Fortunately I keep a notebook with such info, but in my mind, I shouldn’t have to do so until (perhaps) I update the app. Which, as I previously stated, I haven’t done yet. I’m not looking to borrow trouble, but I hope this isn’t an indication of a problem. Anyway, you folks are generally so good at responding, I thought I’d let you know, and hope you’ll get back to me, at which point, I’ll raise the 2 stars back up to 5 stars. You’ve done so in the past, and I commend you highly for your expediency and responsiveness. The 2 stars I’m giving you is to get your attention. Your app is wonderful, and honestly, is one of only 2 on my iPhone that has (till now) been basically trouble-free. I use it all the time, and find it easy to use/intuitive, timely and filled with excellent information, (true story). Thanks for a great product. FYI, I’m running the app on an iPhone 8 Plus, with IOS 13.1.2.

I wanted to love this app. Unfortunately, as with most forms of social media, bullies hide behind the anonymity of a keyboard and think it’s okay to say whatever mean and nasty things they want to say about a book, an author or even readers and the app owners do nothing to discourage it. Everyone’s taste in books is different. If you read something you don’t care for, write a review and explain why, or better yet, don’t waste your time reading a book you don’t like. If you must write a review, write constructively. It serves no purpose to belittle other readers for their taste in books. You lose credibility when you attack readers instead of constructively explaining any issues you have with the subject, plot, characters etc. I listened to an audio book that I really enjoyed. Compared to many of the books I’ve recently read this was a breath of fresh air. I went on Goodreads thinking I might find fellow readers who enjoyed it only to find this app filled with as much hate and bullying as twitter and other social media. I’m very disappointed and have deleted the app. People ruin most good concepts. This is nothing but reality television in app form. Treat people with kindness. Don’t spread hate.

Wonderful!. I don't have room in my house for a bookcase nor do I have enough money to buy all the books I love and display them in my house. Therefore, when I found goodreads I found the perfect way to create a digital bookcase with reviews and all! I simply adore it :) My only wish would be a DNF category aside from the usual ones (i.e.- "Currently Reading", "To Read", "Read"). Right now I have a handful of books on my "Read" list even though I didn't finish them. I hate taking credit for reading a book when I didn't but if I take it off my list I'll forget I tried it and try to read it later. In addition, I read many books via audiobooks and I want to update my progress under “currently reading” but I have no way of knowing what page I’m on and typing in the percentage is a pure guess. In order for this to be more accurate to where I am in the book, it might be nice to have a category that tracks what chapter or minute you’re on. If this was the case I would have a more comprehensive view of my progress throughout the read. Other than these two small tweaks I love it!

Impressive bug hindering functionality. When I search famous authors, like Jack Kerouac, he doesn’t appear in the results and when I manage to find the page of any author I’m looking for, all the books are in different languages - ones that do not use the English alphabet When this gets fixed I’ll bring it back up to 4 or 5 stars because I love this app but this bug is quite ridiculous. If I search for On the Road and Kerouac isn’t the first result, this app is failing me. *further note with the search bar: I find it infuriating when I type in a title and the book does not come up and instead I get 5 random books with one of the title words in them, and it’s always these ridiculous fantasy or ya books. And then I actually press search and I have to scroll all the way to the bottom where I’ll maybe find the book. It seems like the search bar isn’t being used as an, “I’m looking for this exact title” but rather “I’d like to read a book with these words in the title” which is stupid and an ineffective finding aid.

Bald Headed Lies. Bald-Headed Lies Imogene and El are back and immersed in yet another mysterious murder in Southern California. The gruesome, claustrophobic and often skin crawling discovery of guilt leads them on an adventure of intrigue and horror that kept me reading from start to finish in one sitting. Cemetery happenings, zombie history and hallucinogenics combine with the paranormal and cast of characters that lead to shocking truths about deadly deeds of human beings. Many of the captivating characters from the first 2 books in this series are back to entertain and delight us once again. Greta Boris tells their story with dramatic rollercoaster twists and spiraling turns. I love how there are always references to things in each of her books that cause me to do some quick research to expand my personal knowledge base on a wide expanse of topics. Reading references to familiar locations, streets and the SoCal interstate add a familiar and fun flare to the reading experience for residents of SoCal. Bravo to Greta on another well written book in the series…can hardly wait for “A Permanent Solution”!

Overall good. This is a good app overall for organization of your reads and for exploring more books while connecting with others. The UI is clean and easy to use. However, GR toted major updates to the app and site which were a false flag, because nothing really changed besides some stability updates. Dark mode would be GREATLY appreciated as well as some other stability updates. One thing that needs to be addressed is if you select a book in a list (ex: Want to Read) and you go back, the app immediately takes to back to the beginning of the list and glitches the book you selected to the top. Very frustrating when you have many books in your lists and needs to be addressed. Lastly when you select a link that takes you to Goodreads, instead of it just opening in the app, it opens a safari window in the app that says you need to login. That’s annoying. But overall the app is one that I swear by

Love Marriage. At first I thought this was going to be another somewhat fluff, lighthearted, bend over backward narrative portraying a childish level of adult innocence mimicking Bollywood 50’s films. I was so wrong. This book is anything but. The reality clashed with the expectation and left me impressed and surprised. Plumbing the depths of what constitutes love, the author depicts profound ways love manifests itself, sometimes when it’s least expected. An exploration of family dynamics is enlightening in that context. The beliefs underlying the psychoanalytic practice of Sandro Bartok, a minor but crucial character in the book, sums up the themes perfectly - compassion and connectedness. In order to do this, the author creates compelling, multi-faceted characters who reveal themselves believably. The author uses a wealth of research in medicine, philosophy. psychology, feminist theory and artistic movements to give depth and credibility to her characters, while not losing sight of their fallible, endearing human qualities. The story has several twists and held my attention. This is the work of an author who has mastered the craft of writing. The characters were so real that I believe they will stay with me for some time.

Reduced Rating - not enough flexibility/features. Wish there was an easy way to provide feedback to the developers. I have LOVED this app for years, but it hasn’t changed much. I wish they allowed for you to track books separately if you read them vs listened on audio. It would also be good if they allowed separate ratings for the book alone vs the book on audio. Would be nice to allow monthly reading challenges, not just yearly challenges. And it would be great if they offered some fun functions like i’m seeing from friends who use other apps. They can create fun visual representations for which and how many books they read each month and then share that in social media. So I still love the app, I just wish it allowed for some more creative uses for those of us who are interested (or just create a function so that it can synch easily with one of those other apps then the goodreads purists will be happy and people like me who want to be able to do a little more without changing apps).

Love it but I’ve got some ideas. Don’t get me wrong this app is helpful and I use it all the times but it can be pretty clunky sometimes The featured booklists on your page are kinda tricky to find again and I wish there was a whole tab for them with like recently viewed lists and recommendations and things like that because when you accidentally leave an amazing list and can’t find it it’s the worst. The biggest issue I have is it’s not the most new user friendly. I got this app and had so many books and shelves to create for my previous reads but it takes five clicks to add a book to a shelf. When I make a shelf it’s because I realize I have lots of books similar and so scrolling through my reads and clicking five times for each is not fun at all and takes all day. I wish there was a select tool so you could add multiple books to a shelf at a time this would probably make this review five stars. Another little issue I have (and maybe I just can’t figure it out) is Re reading. If I read a book multiple times why can’t I count both towards my reading challenge? It won’t be an accurate page count if it turns out that was just the one of the times I read the book that year. I feel like you should have multiple reading dates on your book info so it isn’t just showing the last time you read it. If this is a feature and I just haven’t found it then I apologize. Definitely needs a refresh I just looked at version history and it’s mostly bug fixes! This app NEEDS something new

Awesome book. Lin Stepp has really outdone herself on this book! I believe it is the best book she has ever written and I have read all her books! Not that I am a expert, but I am a high volume reader. I do relate to this story because I am part Cherokee, my great grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee. I think the research she did for this book was spot on. It touched my heart of all the history she had to research to make this book what it is. It is a fast read, or it was for me. It kept my interest and is a page turner. I love the characters she had in this book and it makes me want to go to Cherokee, NC to meet these people. She made them all seem so real to me. I could really see these people as the Cherokee families that live there. The thing about the grandma having site, it is so true that Cherokee have that. I also have a small part of that, mine is a little different. I have had site, but mostly I have feelings and know things about people, I feel them and know what kind of person they might be. You will not be disappointed in this book, it is worth every penny! I believe this book would be a good read at the beach, or a vacation trip anywhere, or just sitting on your porch enjoying the outside, or even by a fire when the snow is flying. Lin’s books are fun reads and I have said that about her books for years, and this one is no different. It is also is informative of some of the Cherokee people. Love this book!

Glitchy and needs big updates. I like the premise behind the app, but the app itself needs a TON of work. It crashes constantly. Especially when you navigate to the Books tab. When I do the barcode search, it shows my book but then it goes away and immediately comes up with 3 different foreign school looking books and asks me if it’s one of those. Well…it was my book until you overrode it with three strange ones, and why are they always the same 3 books? So you have to just type the title or author anyway. Then that takes you to the search for title…the author line is too close to the title line, so half the time I hit the authors name instead of the book title, which then takes me to every book by that author. That’s not what I want when I am just adding a book to my list. Also, for the Challenges, there needs to be an option to add the book to the challenge, instead of being forced to make the status “reading” and then changing it to “read”. Apps are meant to be quick and easy, not cumbersome.

Awesome!!!. This is the app I use most when looking at books. I love all the features in it and I like how features are still being added. •A few things I would suggest, though, are adding an option for when you are recording which days you read the book (from start to finish), to also have an option for the time. I usually know what time I started and finished a book so this would be helpful for me. And to put in settings whether you would rather have the standard “Military time” version for the time or the version where the numbers start over after twelve and use AM and PM. •Also when marking a book as “Read” I think there should be an option to click directly to the page where you record the days you read the book from start to finish. A direct click from one page to another would be very helpful for me. •The only thing that I am not so happy about is that I can’t use Goodreads when I don’t have WiFi, so if I’m eagerly trying to find a book in the car or on my school bus, I can’t look at any books because there is “no connection”. •Also, I love the fact that I can connect my Kindle Paper White to Goodreads and add in new books that I want to read, am currently reading or have just finished. It makes it so much easier!! Anyway, overall, this is an amazing app and I’ve recommended it to all my bookworm friends and I recommend it to anyone reading this!!!!

Perfect! Just missing one thing.... I love this app! I love that you can scan books into it for easy cataloging, I love that I can use it while doing unnecessary book shopping to make sure I don’t buy what I already have. I love that I can update my progress on books in the app. It’s literally missing just one thing - the ability to enter dates on my activity for a book showing I’ve re-read it. I know I can edit when I first started and finished a book, but I can’t add more dates as I re-read books, which is all I tend to be doing lately. I know I can add these dates on the site (which, tbh it’s really difficult to get to the page I need to enter re-read dates, so that could be improved, too), but, while a majority of my books are actually physical books, I do have a lot of kindle and audio books that I consume on my phone, so when I finish them, it would be nice to be able to update my activity with a re-read date while I’ve already got my nose stuck in front of my phone. My rating is a 4 out of 5, but I will gladly give it a perfect 5 if that missing feature can be added!

Great, but could use a little tweaks. I love this app. I use it every day. (Scroll to bottom to see reason for 4 star rating.) I love to new track of books I’ve read and what I’ve thought of them, in case a friend asks for a recommendation. I like to update what I’m currently reading as I go to see how far along I am in percentages. I also like to see what my friends have read/are reading, and what they thought of those books. I LOVE being able to make a list of books I want to read, instead of slowly typing them all out in my notes app, I can just check my list here while at the library or bookstore. However, I WISH there was a feedback submission area of the app. I’d like to be able to point out when I notice a problem. For example, I must’ve accidentally followed someone recently, but it won’t let me unfollow them. Another example, I was reading “The Help” recently and was updating it as I went. It told me I was 100% complete when I was only 90% through the book. I wish there was a feedback area so I could tell the app makers about these little problems that are probably easily fixable.

Love it. That said, there’s much potential for growth. This is my go to app for bookmarking (haha) books I want to read and check out what my friends and other people are reading. The shelves, the ability to read and create reviews, browsing for books, and creating a book challenge for the year are really nice, and it feels great to move a book from in progress to read. That said, the social aspect of the app doesn’t seem to be fully in touch with the other areas. I wish there were a way customize the feed you see. The friend list doesn’t seem to really refresh outside of when you first sync the app to your fb account, you can’t cancel friend requests, can’t unfollow people, and you still get a feed for people who are no longer exist on your friend list. The basic features work, and I guess there’s no other app like GoodReads yet, but the social features could be developed and polished more to give a more streamlined app. Apart from all wishful thinking, I am still thankful for this :)

Great for keeping track. Goodreads is a great app for keeping track of what you’ve read. BUT, the reviews are inaccurate. If someone doesn’t like a certain author, they gather their “squad” and give it a bunch of one star reviews and start bashing the book before it’s even released TO ANYONE, Including Beta readers or Bloggers. I’ve been in the book world for 6 years and have seen this time and time again. On the flip side, the same can be said for diluted books theat have never been out of the authors hands with 5 star reviews and raving and bragging how great the book is (they never read) Don’t get me wrong, there are some books that are that bad, however, how can they be judged before anyone has laid eyes on them 🤷🏻‍♀️ IF YOU WANT AN APP TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT YOU HAVE READ OR WANT TO READ OR HAVE READ with nifty little shelves, this is the app for YOU. If you aren’t interested in grown ups acting like child, stalking, false reviews and all the other BS that comes with it, I wouldn’t waste my time OR you can just ignore it like I do 🖤 I mostly just keep my shelves on my Paperwhite now but when it asked me to review it, how could I not share my honest opinion

Good, Could be better. Ok so I really like this app but there is a few things that I would change 1) I would really add half a star exp. 3.5 stars I think for a book ratings it’s definitely something everyone would want. 2) I just recently realized this but when someone sends you a friend request it says you have a notification but when you click the requests there is nothing there and it is really frustrating trying to find a way to add my friends on the app. 3) This isn’t really that important but some of the books on the app have the old covers for one book in the series but the rest have the new covers for example the first book in the throne of glass series on good reads has the old cover. 4) I think it would be a fun idea to have personal notes for things. Like instead of just being able to write a public review you could also have personal notes for the books just to keep track of your thoughts in a more private way. Besides those things I think this is a very good app that I use almost everyday.

Mind blowing!. This book will challenge your paradigm of the world. Really. It will expand your understanding of psychology, human emotion, spirituality, civil society, personal faith, history, and international politics. It will affirm the existence of supernatural intelligent evil and the God of the Bible, as well as His trinitarian reality. You will be amazed at how much we don't know about what is going on right under our noses. Even where you live. I believe this personal account to be 100% true. Anyone who says otherwise is either not familiar with the depth and breadth of corroborating material from very trustworthy sources, or they are too afraid of the implications for their personal belief systems. Suffice to say, we are on the precipice of some very difficult times and the biggest challenges we will face in the upcoming months will be from things we cannot even begin to comprehend. This book is a warning. A shot over the bow, a call to spiritual arms. We as as society had better get prepared and supernaturally armed. We are woefully outgunned and undertrained. The Holy Spirit of the Living God is the only force that can help. Orient your heart toward HIM and join in the good fight! God Bless!

Change is important. Ok so... it took me a while to see a couple of things I really really wanted goodreads to change. First is that I can’t seem to edit my shelf other than change its name and delete books. But it should also let you change the order of the books and let you put them in other shelves without having to click on them and THEN adding them. E.g: you enter Want To Read and see a book you want to add to some shelf. Instead of clicking and opening EVERYTHING including the synopsis and all, you hold your finger onto the name of the book and all the shelves are available for you to insert it. Also, I’m from Brazil and constantly I check all my books to see if they gained a Brazilian edition. But some books have like, a 100 editions and it takes SO MUCH time to find a portuguese one. PLEASE let it have a box or whatever in the beginning of the page so I can search already “portuguese” and find an edition with my language.

My go-to book reference app. Update: Feb 2019. Still loving this app to keep track of all the books I want to read, and have read and listened to. I use it to get an accurate book series order list since our library catalogue is much lacking in that area. My one request would be to have an option to mark the book as read with options for hardback/paperback/ebook and and option for listened to with options for book on CD and/or ebook audio. (Review February 2018) And very much enjoying it. I have 4 kiddos and my youngest is almost 3, so I’ve made a commitment to read more in 2018. My sister in law has challenged me to read more fiction, but I just can’t help but be drawn to the non-fiction(self-improvement and psycho-analysis) realm. My reference librarian even referred me to good-reads since our card catalogue doesn’t have an efficient way of differentiating the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc in a series. Well done app. Thanks!!

Forced “Read”, “Want to Read”, “Currently Reading”. UPDATE: Goodreads contacted me and suggested I make my son’s bookshelf “exclusive”, meaning books on the shelf wouldn’t be on two shelves (that one and “currently reading” at the same time). It’s exactly what I needed. Thanks Goodreads! I updated my review! Original Review: I like this app. I would like to use it for its intended purpose for my own books (meaning: marking this as read, currently reading, want to read), and also keep a “shelf” of my son’s books to share with his grandparents. It is frustrating that you are FORCED to choose “read”, “currently reading”, or “want to read” for every book—I don’t want to mark my son’s books with these tags; I just want to catalog them with a shelf. I only want to use these tags with my own books... it’s annoying that I have to see his books in “currently reading” when I just want to see mine! Please add this option so I can use this app for myself! Right now I’m “currently reading” 50 children’s books! :(

I use it ALL THE TIME!!. This app is amazing. I use it all the time!! It’s fun to keep up with all of your reading and to look back at everything you've read. I love how you can tell it what page your on and it will tell you exactly how far into the book you are. The database is huge!! Even books I don’t expect to find are here. You can find books that you’ve been wanting to read, put them in a folder and when your looking for your next book you can scroll through said folder until you find one. It’s amazing, I love this app, it’s just great! One thing I do wish is, when I tell it I’ve read a book, it doesn’t mean I just finished it. There should be a different button (but next to the ‘I’ve read this book button’) that says I just finished this book; and the I’ve read this book button should just put it in the Read folder and not on my reading challenge list. The I just finished this book button should add it to the reading challenge.

A life collection of reading. I really love GoodReads, it makes selecting new books so much easier. I know what I want to read next as well as being able to review all previous books I’ve read. With the app connecting to my kindle it makes it even more seamless. A feature I’ve really liked using this year is the reading challenge, setting a number of books you want to read before the end of the year. This is a great motivator to squeeze in a couple extra books a year

some improvements could be made. I love this app but when it comes to ratings that is definitely the number one problem most users stumble upon - the fact we can only strictly rate a book whole numbers (1-5) when sometimes we want to rate a book .25 or .5 or .75. Additionally, changes with logging “re-reads” should also be added. It is extremely inconvenient that there is no option for this as many users like myself sometimes want to reread books but it mixes things up due to it already being in the “read” folder. These are the main constructive criticisms I have for goodreads in order for it to become a much better and accessible app for all users! Thank you!

Genius App but Needs Development. I love this app. The design is great and has some really great features like being able to scan book codes to see the GoodReads listing without typing it in. However, it is so slow and not very aesthetically pleasing. Just seems so far behind and limiting the app’s potential, especially considering more younger people are getting into reading. Please, please, please get some young app developers onto this and make it perfect!

Goodreads is part of my day, everyday!. I started going on Goodreads to find reviews for books I wanted to read, to see if G allows me to keep track of books I have read were worth reading. Then I would write reviews on books to remind myself what the book was about. Then people started reading my reviews and every thing changed. I am now involved in conversations with authors and like minded readers discussing out favourite books and recommending new ones. It has become an important part of my life.

Needs a few tweeks. I love this app for lots of reasons. It helps me keep track of things I’ve read or want to read really easily. It would be great if you could write private notes within your timeline for a book or even at the end, without needing to make a public review. It would be good to be able to make a note or tick if you’ve read/listened to a book via audible. As I listen to a number of books that way and don’t feel like that can be properly reflected.

Maintain. Really like the app have suggested it to everyone one of my mates that reads, Makes me read more with the progress bar (I see it like a challenge) Only suggestion I have for an improvement would be the loading screen when you first open has quotes which I really enjoy although sometimes they are to fast for me to read or fully understand it’d be nice if we had the option once loaded to then move onto the next screen.

Good but glitches. The app is great overall for tracking books read, and want to read etc, but there are a few glitches I’d love if developers could fix! Firstly, there are errors when updating the dates read. The date it shows in my “read” bookshelf, and thus orders them, is based on the date I entered it and doesn’t update based on when I edit the dates read. So if I forget to enter a book as I’m reading it, then I add it later and edit the dates read, it still shows in my bookshelf as the date I added it rather than my selected dates read. Secondly a bunch of books have all of a sudden converted into different languages. I get having different listings/editions for different languages, but books I added to my want to read that were in English now aren’t. Not sure how that’s managed to happen, I ended up searching (with difficulty) and finding the English version again to add, but it just is very strange! I see others have commented on this too, so definitely a wider issue.

Wonderful. This application is amazing, I am so happy it exists. My favourite tool is being able to update my progress on books easily, just a few taps away. No computer needed! I will say it took some time to find some tricks and general usage also took some time to figure out. App looks outdated and could be a tad user friendly but other than that it does absolutely everything I need in the palm of my hand. I have a worldwide library and am very grateful. Thank you GOODREADS!

My favourite app. Love this app! Does everything I need it to do. Scan function is excellent. Easy to use in every function I need to use: Reviewing, rating, commenting on reviews, recommending via text and email, messaging, accessing groups. Recommended 5 worthy stars! I truely LOVE this app and has used it for years. Text Messaging is probably the only other app I use more. I’m a top Australian reviewer, so I’m ALWAYS here!

I LOVE this app, BUT …. Goodreads is a bookworm’s dream — I absolutely love it and would highly recommend to all my fellow book lovers out there! The only reason I haven’t given it a 5-star rating is because you can only rate books on the app with whole-star ratings (eg. 2 stars, 3 stars etc.) and I would really, really love to be able to give half-star ratings (i.e. 1.5 stars, 4.5 stars, etc.) because some books are better than 3 stars but not quite 4 stars and it’s quite frustrating not being able to make that distinction! If this could be implemented in an update soon, I (and so many of my friends who use the app also) would be over the moon. Please give us our half-star ratings so we can give you a 5-star one, Goodreads!

Time bug. The app is really good, but when I try to change the dates (I forget to put it in currently reading and then when I finish) the date will change in the edit dates part but when you go out it won’t change. I have tried restarting my phone and reopening the app but it still says the wrong date. Other than that this app is really good to keep all your reading progress on!

Recent issues. I have been using the app for a long time mainly to keep track of what I have read and to search for books that I want to read. Until recently I was extremely satisfied with the app and recommended it to many of my friends. However, the most recent update is very disappointing. Many of the books that I have marked as having read have either disappeared off my read list or gone back to my to read list. Please fix as a matter of urgency!!!!!

ENGLISH BOOKS IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE??. Why are all these native English books I am searching are suddenly in a different language to English when I know that they are from English speaking authors? Like I am looking through my TBR list from authors and books I know are written in English and the title and blurb is suddenly in a different language to when I added the book??? Like I know I had previously read this blurb in English so WHY suddenly it is no longer English?? Feels like a glitch. Half of these books I am searching that I KNOW are from American authors are appearing in foreign languages I cannot read. Really not trying to be racist here lol… but English is the only language I can understand 😭 and when half these books I am trying to read blurbs of on goodreads are not in English it’s making it impossible for me to access my next read. Is this a glitch?? Please fix. Is there no way to change the default setting on goodreads to English.

A quiet life expanded. This is a very interesting age gap book with the two main protagonists being at very different stages of their life journey. Despite their differences there is chemistry between them and possibilities arise along with the inevitable complications. Each of the main characters learn to show compassion for each other and new pathways are forged for a hea ending. I enjoyed the development of the characters and the characters in a rural community. Pleasurable read I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Borderlands. This is a brilliant piece of writing by Ross that twines the police group together and pushes one into the forefront for the first time. Set amongst the hills and moors of the English Scott border the scenery is beautifully described even though it’s stormy. It was totally there. It’s wonderful the places I can go to with a book, and this one is no exception. The crimes are both chilling and delusional, and it is the friendship and love shared between the police group that alleviate the depravity of the crimes. So well written I was in the river, under the sheep and in the storm hiding.

So slooooooooow, this app needs some TLC. I use GoodReads to hunt down new books to read but have to be super patient waiting for the pages to load!! Pages time out frequently. The recommendations are hopeless, they don’t seem to relate to my current reading but to stuff I was into 5 years ago. So now I look at other readers who like my current book and scroll through their shelves to see what they have been reading. Isn’t that what the recommendations function should be doing? Also when you mark a book as read it doesn’t allow you to write a review at the same time! The ap needs a serious investment in upgrading or it will start to leak users.

Adding a new section to the app.. This is a very good app, I love using it. But I really think that you should develop a section in the app where you can play around with the books like tier ranking books you’ve read, or having to guess the book based on a certain aspects and more creative ideas that you can come up with game/book wise. I feel that this would bring more people to use the app and make it more enjoyable.

Love hate relationship. I’ve used this app for years - I love it and really on it when it comes to keeping track of the best books I’ve read and want to read. I’ve not found another like it. However, recently it has been shutting down every time I open it and it is simply unusable. I would love to see it up and running smoothly. Perhaps also with new features that improved its user interface. A more efficient search system, simpler and catchier way to record annual reads, and more effective suggestions for future reads

Great concept but underdeveloped. This app provides me with motivation to read for sure. I have been using it frequently since I downloaded it a month or so ago. The longer I use it however, I am noticing more and more issues and I wish the app provided more features (working features). Recently I have been having issues where whenever I try to check my reading progress and dates I have updated my page it takes me to the review page with no option get into the section I want. This app would really take a huge leap forward by providing users with statistics and their reading trends.

Disappointing. I want to give this app more than 2 stars. I use it almost every day and it is a fantastic way to log my reading progress and to check potential reads. However. And this is a big one. The app is constantly crashing, and particularly when I am in the middle of writing reviews. The amount of times that I have had to go back and rewrite most of a long review…well it is far too many. This is beyond irritating and a massive waste of my time. Some of my saved reviews are much shorter than I originally intended due to having to rewrite them sometimes three times. It’s just not good enough. I would rather pay for an app that works and is reliable than have an app that has a major issue like this. It would be great if this could be fixed and I could give this app a four or five star review like it deserves. Well five stars would be if I could give half star reviews. Like 3.5 etc. not all books fit easily in a 1-5 star box. Anyway I’m now moving on, and you can probably tell from this review why I get so annoyed when my other reviews are disappeared into an abyss.

Recommend to anyone who reads/wants to read more!. Love having a space to nerd out about favourite books and it’s very encouraging towards achieving your reading goals. I’m enjoying collecting my thoughts in a final review and it’s helping me better understand what I like to read and also nice to look back so I can recommend books to others! I do find the platform a little difficult to navigate in terms of updating what you’re reading, and I wish my feed was just what other people thought about books instead of what they’ve liked.

So worth the wait. call her mine is the newest book in Melissa Fosters collection and this humble reader reckons it’s the best book she has written since I fell in love with Treat Brayden all this years ago!! This book has it all, fun, laughter with real laugh out loud moments, a hunky alpha hero and a heroine who is the kindest soul as well as some tear jerker moments. Do yourself a favour and buy Call her mine today. You won’t be able to put it down once you start.

Get Goodreads = READ MORE BOOKS. A great app for finding new books and improving your reading. I used to read a couple books a year, now I read a couple books a month. A lot of that I attribute to Goodreads. Yes, sometimes only “trendy” books made the top lists. And yes, sometimes the app is very clunky. But the app is great for what it is, and what it helps you to do - which is READ MORE BOOKS!

Great app could use some added features. I think the app is great, it helps me keep track of my reviews on books I’ve read and I’ve found some incredible book suggestions through Goodreads, However when you add a book to your shelf it automatically adds it to the “want to read shelf”. I guess for me if I’m buying 4 books at a time I’d like to be able to keep track which ones I have versus which ones I’m still looking for.

Some glitches, but good. Sometime, when I write a review of a title I’ve read, it disappears forever when I try to post it to my reading habits page or Facebook. I have learnt to copy and paste my review before posting so that I don’t lose me text. Also, would love the ability to put books to read list in order of currently reading, rather than the other filters available at present. Otherwise, a worthwhile app.

Clunky but there’s nothing better out there. I’ve been using the goodreads app for over a year now, and am recently starting to appreciate what the app can offer. I like that you can see what your friends are reading and want to read on your feed, and I like that when you look at a new book it shows what your friends think of this book, if they’ve read it or want to read it. The thing that desperately needs some attention from the developers is the search function. The search function is very clunky. Takes ages to load suggested titles when I’m typing in the search bar, and often suggests the wrong books until I’ve typed out the whole title. Please fix.

I love the app except it being extremely underdeveloped. I love goodreads! I use it everyday at the least but there seems to always been problems with it. I always get errors popping up or saying the capacity is full. The website sometimes doesn’t work either. It would also be good to see quarter and half stars. For example, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75 and so on. Another thing to add would be being able to edit reviews without updating to the profile. Or being able to have an “Owned” shelf automatically and having a button to press say when I go out and buy a new book. I think this would be heaps efficient and a subject a lot of people would use. The look of goodreads is also quite outdated. From what I’ve heard and seen it hasn’t changed much over the years and I think the app and website are both ready for a fresh look. Maybe instead of yellow having a white and fresh looking colours would make the app appear more inviting and modern. I know all if not, then most good reads users have also identified these problems. Other than a few of those problems/fixes, goodreads has been pretty good.

One of my consistently most used apps.. Love the app, use it all the time to plug holes in my memory when I’m trying to tell someone about a great book I’ve read and can’t remember the title 🤦🏻‍♀️ A really useful feature I think would be to allow a place for you to record a note on why you’ve put a book in the ‘to read’ section. Again with the memory, I go back to my long list of to read books and I often can’t remember why I’ve put it there. Is it a friend recco, podcast, review I’ve read? If I could record this is would help me to decide what to read next.

Good. I like tracking what I’m reading and, my progress and getting rec one Dario a. I would love a ‘I’ve given up on this hoo’ button though. goodreads I find it motivates me to read at a good pace and I enjoy seeing what my friends are reading and reviewing. I love seeing the progress of what I’m reading but I would love a ‘I've given up on this book button’ as I have ditched a couple of books. But this almost might help in which books are recommended as it will know which books aren’t suitable too.

Great app. This is the best app on my phone! I love browsing what books I'm going to read or what my friends are currently reading...Also I love keeping track of what I've read and what I'd like to read. Great feature having the book challenge and email capability. Now I never choose a book without looking at the ratings on good reads first!

Love the functionality, performance could be better. As a new good reads user, I love the functionality of this app but it feels quite slow, particularly the loading of my book lists etc, and the search. Feels a bit like an older hybrid app? Rather than a fast modern responsive native app. I’m still going to use it but I reckon it could be made so much faster which would really improve the experience and probably road to me engaging with it more. Still really appreciate it being a free app.

Enjoyable but needs privacy settings on shelves. I Love goodreads for all the obvious reasons. I do find myself disappointed that I can’t add private shelves or private notes on books. An ability to record that I’ve read something without announcing it to the world. Goodreads acts as a kind of record and journal of your reading history, so allowing more space for uses to add notes and bookmarks as they please means we don’t need to seek another app or physical book. Adding notes separate to reviews would be nice for personal reminders to reread a book. Or reasons you only partially finished and put it back on the shelf etc.

It’s OK. The recommendation system needs some work, as it mostly recommends foreign language books, and the app offers no way for you to prevent them from being recommended. If you log onto the web site you can mark them to indicate your not interested, but you can’t do this on the app. The Algorithm used to make recommendations seems loose, it seems it just shows the books of other readers with similar shelves ????. Has potential, but online it looks like this has been a problem for years (if you read forums)

A must have for readers. I have been using this app since 2012 and it is excellent!! I refer it to all my friends. Keep all the books you have read in one place, add ratings and reviews, have a to read section for all the recommendations you hear and then used to forget! Scan function. Is great for quickly looking up a book and international peer ratings of books! You can also do reading challenges setting targets for books each year, connect with friends, and follow authors!! I wish there was one for movies!!

Slow and buggy. I deeply regret updating this from whatever version number the January 2017 release was. You guys clearly subscribe to the school of app deconstruction instead of development. Ads seem much more intrusive. Everything is slow slow slow (I assume due to the more graphics heavy nature of the homepage, and on that - why do books in my currently reading list need to display the cover? The old text only display was perfectly adequate and didn't mean I was trying to read light-text-on-dark-cover, a disaster combination in ANY app). Finally, making a book read no longer takes me to a page where I can review it, but back to my reading list - meaning I have to click into read, then back into that book to leave a review, which is obviously the first thing most Goodreads users are going to do after marking something as read. Is there any logical or thought-driven reason for this change? Because it is utterly baffling and nonsensical to me.

Love it. Love sharing what I read and seeing what others have to say. Ninety nine percent of my reads I find on this site, it’s easy to use and navigate. Being able to shelve books into genre is easy. Knowing I can easily locate books I’ve loved and re-read is awesome. Your able to add books you want to read. Keep updated with your favourite authors by following them. I can’t rate this site enough.

Great app, a few tweaks to make it 5 star. I like this app, it really helps foster a good reading habit. All of a sudden I want to read all the books! I would appreciate an OK button when making changes - there’s something weird about making an account change and not submitting it. But primarily the ability to set the date format to Australian (or however else it may be called). I expect there are plenty of users like me that are not in the USA and use a different date format.

Good community, needs improvement on interface. I enjoy Goodreads. The community, the values of reading it hold high. The usability of the review system for me is infuriating though. Every now and then I’ll think ‘why not write a review’, I go ahead and it automatically closes halfway through writing a heartfelt comment. Often a paragraph in. Then I remember why I don’t usually bother. This has happened for a long time now and despite upgrades, deleting and reinstalling the app. I’ll just shrug and continue to use it as a tally of books read through the year and forget about the glitch until I go to write another review and remember again

Helps me keep my reading goals. I have loved this app since I found it. It keeps me focused on my reading goals and let’s me read about what other people thought of the books I am reading. I don’t know how the app is built, I think it must be web based, but it is very slow. Each time you move from screen to screen, it is as if each page is a loading web page. I’m just surprised that an app with this much of a support base isn’t more sleek. Even so, I still use it almost every day, and am happy using it even with the clunkiness.

The app for every bookworm, but it definitely needs a few improvements.. I use Goodreads every single day and it’s just overall amazing. Some of the things that would be great if it was added in the app though: - An edit and delete option for statuses in this mobile version. You can only do this with a computer and it’s quite a handful to switch on to my laptop only to edit or delete a status because of a typo I’ve written on it with my phone. - Can you please please please make it easier to add gifs/images or book/author links in reviews, especially in the mobile version? - Having bold, italic and underline buttons when writing a review would help a lot. Seriously. I despise using “” for bold and “” and all the other stuff. - The ability to add exclusive shelves and other types of shelves in the mobile app would be cool. I’m pretty sure you can only do this with the computer too. If these features were added I’m pretty sure more bibliophiles would use this app. I have a friend who loves books as much as I do but using the app is way too confusing for her. Otherwise, I love this app! It made me read a lot more and it’s really useful for keeping track of my reads and ratings.

Slow and freezing. I’ve had this app downloaded for two years and haven’t updated it in that time (because I always regret updating apps) and it’s worked fine that whole time. Lately I’ve noticed that it’s started having really long load times when clicking on profiles or books, so I thought I’d try the update to see if that helped. It didn’t. It did, however, make the app glitchier than it was before where it’s now practically impossible to scroll through the editions of a book because it freezes and slows right down to the point you have to close and reopen the app. It also comes up with an error message when loading my shelves sometimes so I’m constantly having to reload them. The app already only features the most basic functionality of the site, which I mostly didn’t mind because it did what I needed it to, but with this update it’s made even that not possible. This is exactly why I never update apps unless I have to.

Feels like a desktop website from 2005. If I was reviewing the ability to interface with the Goodreads database this would get more stars but I’m reviewing an app, a remarkably bad one. It’s slow loading bookshelves and inelegant navigation make it incredibly annoying to use. God forbid you’d want to scroll down your “want-to-read” shelf, it will take you minutes of loading 10 books, then 10 more. It needs a serious overhall in its navigation, loading time and just general ease of use. I don’t think anything short of a groundup redevelopment would do.

Solid Concept, Needs Technical Refresh. Goodreads offers a fantastic platform for book lovers, with a broad array of titles and an intuitive book-discovery algorithm. I've always been able to find the books I want, and I appreciate the app's knack for suggesting new reads that align with my tastes. This particular feature stands out and should definitely be expanded upon. However, the overall execution of the app is subpar. It suffers from an outdated interface that could greatly benefit from a modern revamp. The current aesthetic feels tired and detracts from the otherwise useful features of the app. Furthermore, Goodreads is plagued by bugs that often cause features to malfunction. This not only hinders the overall user experience but also undermines the reliability of the app. In summary, while Goodreads excels in concept and has a commendable book-discovery algorithm, it's in dire need of a technical and visual overhaul. Addressing these issues could significantly enhance the user experience, making Goodreads the top-tier book app it has the potential to be.

Falls short more and more. I love the idea of this app and I’ve used it for years to track my books, but … there are a zillion features on the website that haven’t been put into the app and it can be very hard to find something on the app that’s on the website, even when it is there somewhere. In the last couple of months the app has started randomly closing itself, which is heart-breaking when you’ve nearly completed a long review and the whole thing disappears. App devs: Do better!

Rescued From Being!. This book rescued me from a 30+ year dead-end in Being-ness. I see clearly how I misunderstood enlightenment as the realisation that Being is without self - ie I Am-ness - selfless awareness. (some even try to yogicly develop this Being-ness - eg. “plugged-in presence” - without merely standing prior to Being-ness in Non-Being) You can play with Being-ness all day - coming up with more and more complicated ways to purify it, develop it! It’s pretty easy to recognise a teacher who is playing the development of Being game - they write LOTS of books and have a system and practices of Byzantine complexity which greatly appeal to those who believe that they need to become “experts”! That was the cul de sac I was stuck in without even knowing. Non-Being/No Awareness is prior! The play of Being re-cognised as No-Thing-Ness - just temporary modifications, limitations on the unlimited Non-Being. Thank you!

Search function doesn’t work. Goodreads is a great site & love the book loving community. The search function in the app has problems. Example, say there is a book you know is on goodreads like flea’s ‘Acid for the children’. When i go in to the search function on the app and type in ‘acid for the children’ it doesn’t find the book. Put if you put ‘goodreads acid for the children’ in to a search engine you find it. Based on the other reviews appears that there have been issues with the search function for some time. Great if they could fix them 😀 Otherwise great app esp ‘you may also llike’ suggestions for books. Such a great app for book lovers I am still giving it 5 stars! ✌🏻

Good Concept, Poor Execution. I’ve added several books to my “want to read” list and unfortunately those books didn’t add or were somehow removed? There’s no search history which is both surprising and abysmal because now I’ve lost a few books that I wanted to read, and I can’t find them any more which has made having this app mostly useless. I will have to go back to my old (but reliable) way of either taking a screenshot of the title or typing it into the notes app on my phone. It’s also annoying to see others have asked for a “search history” option many years ago, yet it’s clear you haven’t taken it into the least bit of consideration? I fail to see how such a feature has not yet been implemented. The comment section is a mess and the app could do with an overall polish. Not happy.

Needs updating. The interface is very outdated, the app needs a modern update. Searching for a book is difficult, and the book recommendations are usually irrelevant and outdated. Personal opinion only, I think Goodreads should allow half-stars in the ratings. Need to give popular book reviewers more of a platform on here for people to follow. Need to be able to search within the book editions (there are more editions of War and Peace than pages in the book), need to be able to search more specifically, e.g., by the publisher. Looking in the book details, it shows the date that edition was published - it should show the year it was actually originally published. I only use this to record books I’ve read, when I could be getting so much more out of this app. I would happily move to another app, even with a (small) cost, with a nicer interface and smoother features (if I can transfer my Goodreads data to it).

its an amazing app BUT. its an amazing app BUT i hate how you can’t have ratings like 4.25 or 4.5 or 4.75 etc. i think that would be very helpful because sometimes it’s very hard to put a book into 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 stars you need an in-between! also i think the recommendations tab/page needs an update the layout is very old fashioned and the books it recommends you are based on a weird algorithm, i hardly like any of the books i get recommended. also maybe you could allow us to make our own sub-folders under the ‘want to read’ section eg. ‘really want to read’ or whatever. also ofc if there was a section/folder marked as never finished so the book wouldn’t be counted as ‘read’ or ‘want to read’ but simple ‘never finished’. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL! also ofc re-reading the app doesn’t deal too well with that, the dates get switched up and i have to enter the dates manually also if you could give a book 2 (or more ratings) for each reread eg. if i read a book in 2016 and gave it 2 starts then read it again in 2020 and gave it 4 stars, it doesn’t let you keep both ratings it just keeps the most recent one so PLEASE FIX THIS, and also i hate how you can’t have a book in ‘want to read’ AND ‘read’

Highly enjoyable world war two fiction. I really enjoyed this sweet tale of a girl finding friendship and a love of books during a horrendous period of time. All readers/ book lovers will attest to the comfort they have in being lost in another world, and this book embodied these sentiments in the best way. The Last Bookshop in London was beautifully descriptive, had minimal war scenes, strong friendships and a touch of romance. It was like a mug of hot chocolate on a winter night. I recommend this book to female fiction book lovers.

LOVE IT!!. Such an easy way to keep track of the books you read and want to read. Did I already say that ILOVEIT!!

Load Error. Just encountered an error that wont resolve: A closure was called with an invalid calling convention, probably (nil, nil)

Love good reads. This app is dope for book lovers of all ages and all types of readers!

Barcode scanner needs improvement. It has to be the worst barcode scanner I’ve used. It takes a loooooong time to scan and most of the time I have to manually search the title. Scanning by covers just doesn’t work. I tried on all my library and only a handful were recognized (not found, recognized!). I’m using an iPhone 11 Pro, so it can’t be a problem with the quality of my camera.

I used to like this app but.... I used to love the GoodReads app but then one day my app and website account and page stopped working unfortunately due to some technical glitch on their end. Contacted support, got put on a ticket support request, so many days have passed and they still have not had it fixed. When I follow up I get a repeated generic response from an employee named Wendy who says she can do nothing to help at the moment, has no update for me and has put me on a ticket request. So from this experience I am so turned off that I just decided to never use GoodReads again...

Great content, dated UI, challenging UX. I love goodreads and find the app a slightly easier experience than the web platform, but it still feels dated and clunky to me. I had a really hard time learning how to get around this app, and being a millennial who works for a software startup, that isn’t usually the case for me. In particular, finding other people on this app is horrendous. But the content is great so I’ll keep coming back.

Love it but.... I love this app BUT I'd love the ability to give half stars or even a rating out of 10 rather than 5. So many books are a 3.5/5 but a 3 star review vs a 4 star is a big difference in my books!

Spammy. I continually unsubscribe but to no affect. You are now going to be marked as spam.

Gave up. No dark mode. No updates. Went to StoryGraph instead as you.p can copy all your data from books there.

Crashes. I’d love to spend more time perusing books on this app, but it keeps crashing. Nearly every time I use it.

KEEPS CRASHING. Please fix the crashing issue!!!!! I’m so tired of losing my spot.

Amazing!!. Still not working after restarting my phone and deleting the app multiple times.

App review. This is a good app. Thanks.

Keeps glitching. The app is fine for basic purposes of reading reviews and selected books you’re currently reading or want to shelve. However I keep being in the middle of writing a review and the app closes. Extremely frustrating. I have now started multiple reviews and have not gone back to rewrite them as the glitch skewed my train of thought. Figure it out!!

Ad-riddled and slow. Ads are loaded after a pause of several seconds and they randomly cover up expected user interface elements. If your ad is going to cover up the stars ratings 3 seconds after the page shows itself, load the ad first so my expectations aren’t rudely subverted by malvertising techniques. Fraudulently inflating ad click rates is probably against the App Store TOS too.

Disappointed. I was looking forward to the recommendation system. My expectations were that it would be more intuitive. That it would generate recommended books based off of more details like themes, character types, type of prose, etc; and perhaps a more personalized rating system. Rather, it just cross references books that you’ve read with popular books of the same genre. The app is still wonderful in many ways, provides a great way of monitoring your progress through your reads and still helps you find new books. TL;DR: lacking an intuitive recommendation system, still has many great features.

Not auto progress doesn’t work. The app layout is okay but it does not automatically update my reading progress which is getting incredibly annoying.

A dark theme awaited…. A sublime app indeed. It compels you to read more books and allows you to discover even more books that might pique your interest. Yet it lacks one final touch….the option of a dark theme. It would add to the elegance!

Lags. Takes so long to load and keeps crashing

Good but needs improvement. I really like being able to keep track of and rate what I’m reading and it’s also nice to see what books my friends are currently reading. However, it can be REALLY slow to load my feed and sometimes I’ll just straight up get an error message. Another issue is that the UI can be really awful sometimes- if someone comments on your status you don’t even get a notification for it and there’s no way to reply to their comment. Some features such as messaging and groups are really hard to find in the UI too.

Healthiest App on My Phone. I think the best thing about this great app are the reviews. They get voted up by people who agree with them so the creme rises to the top. I don’t find book reviews in the media very reliable at all. They most often are positive and I’ve bought way too many books with compelling subject matter but that I couldn’t finish because the writing just wasn’t exciting enough to keep me engaged. Also you can write your own reviews. It’s cool to see what my fiends are reading too, how they rate the books - and you can recommend books to them by direct message. But the other top thing about the app is FINALLY I have a place to chart all the books I’m thinking of reading. Not only that but you can save them as well as read books in “bookshelves’ - so by the category of your choice. Now a new terrific thing I discovered - the Goodreads top 10 books of any given year is a reliable place to find strong writers. I just devoured 2 from the list. Fabulous. It has got me reading again and I am really enjoying it!!!

Constant glitches. This app is a mess. Half the time the pages won’t load. The search feature is particularly bad. Sometimes when you search for a book title it will pop up, then disappear. Sometimes it won’t pop up at all, even if the book and author are in the system. This app needs a major overhaul.

Someone fix this monstrosity. I’ve literally reached out to customer support before to beg for them to make this app better. It’s truly horrendous. The glitchiness, the friend/following feature making no sense, the feed being horrible, your own feed/about being awful… like the whole app needs an overhaul and AMAZON HAS THE MONEY. Jeffy B I am on my knees asking you to hire app developers who understand social media, love books and can put together a pleasing NON BEIGE aesthetic for this god forsaken app. Please Jeffy B!!

Lots to like. I like the idea behind the app but could be better. Needs a better recommendations for books. Some are good but others make no sense. Overall I really like the app and use it along with the "fantastic fiction" site to plan my upcoming reading.

Good!. It’s a good app, but to be honest it’s time for a big update. More features! More in depth rating system! Competing apps are popping up and I don’t want to switch but they just have so much more to offer,,, goodreads needs to keep up!

Needs so much more. This app is ok. Needs a lot of refinement. The web version is great but Goodreads really needs to get with 2021 and invest more in their app as most users are on their phones not their PCs. Giveaways should be on the app. Lists should be better sorted or at least the user has the ability to sort etc. So much potential but stuck in the dark ages of the beginning of technology

App Randomly Closes. While I’m in the middle of writing a review or just scrolling, the app will suddenly disappear and I’m back at my Home Screen. I open the app again and where I was is gone, so there goes that review, and good luck finding that cover that just caught your eye the moment before the app closed.

needs design update. love your app but you guys seriously need a design update thats more UX/UI friendly!! it would make it wayy more enjoyable to use :)

Great app. Such a good way to track what am reading, what I want to read, and what I've already read. I use it for work to make recommendations and to find new books (I work at a bookstore) Love it. Can't see myself ever uninstalling this app.

Can’t Log In for first use. Downloaded the app for the first time and it said my password wasn’t good. So I tried a different option and it said an account was already created. So then I try log in and it says unexpected error occurred. Servers could be overloaded. Close and reopen, try again. Or try later. I tried “forgot my password” and changed it again. And still get the same error now. I waited 2 days. Same error. I tried redownloading the app. Same error. I can’t even get into the app so it sucks.

Daisy. Love the app, and love using it to read the synopsis of books I hear about. Just wish they would add the option to use half stars! So many times I have to down grade a book rating when it really falls in the middle of 2 stars

Love the app, wish we could do half stars. I like how easy the app is to use, to find book, track my progress and review! However, I really wish I could do 0.5 start increments. I can’t say my reviews are ever full accurate becuase I need an in between score

Y’all need to update and revamp this so bad. love the community aspect of it. But def needs a good updating and revamping. Give us half star ratings and do some bug fixes so the notifications clear the first time; not after opening closing a million times. It’s so annoying 😑

Constantly glitching!. This app is constantly glitching! Won’t let me add new bookshelves, won’t let me do almost anything. Also has had an error message upon startup (almost every time) that the app is “over capacity”. I thought this was a super well-established app run by/affiliated with big name co’s...?? How can it offer such a poor user experience? Hugely disappointing.

.5 star ratings. please add .5 stars to your ratings!!

Goodreads is a must for readers and book lovers alike. Goodreads is a must for readers and book lovers alike. I love updating my books on Goodreads which keeps me motivated. It helps me get a quick review of a book as well.

A favourite for more than a decade. I have been using Goodreads to record and review my reading for many, many years, and I’m not sure what I would do without it. My only complaint is that if you search by author, their books are displayed in order of number of reviews, so their oldest books are usually at the top. There are no other sort or filter options, so you can’t easily see what is new, or what you have not yet read. For prolific authors, this is a real pain.

Used to be great. I loved this app for scanning while book shopping but lately it’s very jumpy and shows books that I haven’t scanned at all. It makes my scanned list grow too fast. Terribly annoying. Please fix the bug!

So bad it almost seems intentional. Terrible app. Ugly, clunky, offers almost nothing useful. Looks like someone created it 15 years ago then forgot about it. And yet Goodreads itself is incredibly popular. I’m mystified.

Great app. But there’s a bug.. I’ve had this app for over a decade now, and I love it. But lately the book ISBN/UPC scanner hasn’t been working correctly. It scans, I see the book I want for a second, and then it changes to a completely different, unrelated book. This is a very important feature of the app, and it needs to be fixed.

Organizing books and lists - why so hard?!. The app is infuriating to use. It’s not very intuitive and is very frustrating to use when trying to create lists and add books to a shelf from your already list pile. Why is there not an option to select several books to move onto a shelf?! How old is this app? Time for an update!

Good but not great. I wish they added a little extra to this app. I can go to historical fiction, then further search by a predetermined category ‘medieval’. However, there all the medieval books are listed what appears to be randomly. Not by popularity, not by score, not alphabetically. Adding that, and better explore/discover interfaces, would make this app great. Right now it feels a bit like a website from 2004.

Crashes lots, so much potential. This is my go to app for finding what I need to know about almost any book. As a database Goodreads is excellent However, as an app, not as excellent. As MANY have pointed out: WHERE IS THE DARK MODE??! I get constant crashes, and the layout is really basic. The search function is confusing, you click on the title and get the author - you’re supposed to press the book cover to get to the book’s reviews. Sigh. Search function also only works when you enter in the title exactly, no words out of order, which makes finding that book you remember but can’t pull up the title in your mind a little frustrating. Cmon guys! Get with the 2020’s before they’re over! Dark mode, a facelift, and a decent search engine and instead of plodding along being the workhorse, you’d have the best app to showcase.

Goodreads rocks!. I have been a Goodreads participant for a few years now, and I LOVE it! I never buy a book anymore without checking the ratings on Goodreads. It’s a great place to keep track of the books you’ve read and the app is excellent! My only disappointment is the fact that I can’t give half star ratings!

App heats up phone. I love goodreads ( the web version) and the iPhone app is great except every single time I have it on, my phone heats up and feels like it’s about to explode. Maybe there is a memory leak somewhere or it’s using wayyy more cpu than it needs to, I don’t know, but please fix!!

GIVE US HALF STARS. We should be able to give half star for reviews on goodreads.

interface. the interface is difficult to use and impossible to deal with.

Version française. L’application semble bien.

Needs Some Major Fixes. I love Goodreads! It’s a fantastic site to track your reading and discuss with other book nerds! But aside from that, the design of the mobile platform is horrendous. When adding books to shelves the app often glitches and says there are 0 books or -1 books on my shelf. How does that even happen? The process of adding books to shelves also is rather choppy and pretty frustrating. For an site that’s been around for more than a decade, you’d think they’d get simple design issues sorted out! And coupled with all of the above, the app is essentially the PC site with touch recognition, which in this case, does not work whatsoever. Goodreads, please invest more time into redesigning your app into a mobile friendly and smooth running app, rather than what we have now. Moving on to the good. The collection of users on the site is astonishing, and your experience feels like joining a community of all book nerds alike. The amount of books also is mind-boggling. I can find just about any book I look for. The reading challenge is my favourite thing about Goodreads, what a fantastic idea! Overall, it’s a fantastic community to be a part of, but the frustratingly primitive mobile app makes the experience less than it should be.

Constant errors and crash. Constant has “unknown error” when trying to rate a book. Instructs to quit or logout/login. Neither works. Clearly this app hasn’t been maintained or updated in years.

Love everything about it, except one small glitch. I have fallen in love with this app! I went from hardly ever reading, to reading a book every week or two. My only complaint is in regards to the page number tracking system. Different versions of the book seem to have a different number of total pages, so a lot of times, when I enter the page number that I’m on, it’s not accurately tracking my progress because the total number of pages that Goodreads has in their records for the book often times differs from the total number of pages in the book I’m reading (maybe because of different versions of the book, hardcover vs softcover, etc?). All in all, I love the app and use it almost daily. It would just be great if we could enter how many total pages the book is before we begin so it tracks it accurately!

the perfect app. i first found this app as a website my freshman year of high school when my english teacher told us we could friend him on goodreads and i was like, “what’s that?” i am SO glad he introduced me to it, because about a week later i decided to make an account and get the app. ever since then, i have been absolutely obsessed with it. i’m like a virtual book hoarder now, i just keep adding more books to my “to-read” shelf every time i open the app, even though i know i probably won’t ever read them. a girl can dream, i guess. i wish i could follow all of my friends on goodreads and read their book reviews and recommend them books but not everyone has it! i genuinely believe this app is a must-have for everyone. sorry for the ramble, 5 stars for goodreads. can’t think of a single thing i’d change if i could.

Amazing App. This is one of my favorite apps of all time! I love having my tbr (to be read) right on my phone so I don’t forget anything when I go to the library. The scanning feature is awesome at the bookstore so I don’t have to buy books or waste space on my phone taking pictures. I also love how the app tells you the number the book is in the series, and if you tap the number the series comes up in a list so you can see all the books, it is very helpful when you see only book 2 on the shelve and you want to know where to start. The only thing is in the recent update when you tap on a book and scroll down you have other books in the series and other books by the author, but the books like this category is gone. That was how I did a majority of my browsing for books and I miss it.

Love it!. So I’ve had Goodreads for awhile on my phone but I never really used it cause I went on a little hiatus from reading now that I’m back and ready again I started actually using the app and I love it! This app is definitely helpful to find new books, see reviews, and make goals. I love being able to have all my currently reading, have read, and want to read all in one place. I defiantly enjoy the whole editing of your current reads for example editing how far you’re in the book and writing a review as you go which is nice because you can see your thoughts changing as you read which is nice. But my favorite thing about this app is the reviews and just how savage everyone is on their reviews which is hilarious 😂 which not going to lie I sometimes read them just for fun. Overall fun app and easy to use defiantly recommend if you’re a book lover! 👍🏼

Needs some fixing. I enjoy the app and many of its features, but there are some things that need to be fixed. For one thing, the app will say “unable to perform action“ and it asks me to tap to reload. Usually this fixes it, but sometimes I have to tap it two or three times, so I go into settings and turn airplane mode off and on. Which is fine, except this is a bit time-consuming. Another thing that needs to be fixed is I just joined two groups in the app and it keeps giving me an error message saying that I can’t do that. The app thinks I am a robot. So it is not letting me post or comment in either group. That is really annoying. Other than that, this app is great. I’m finding new books to read and I enjoy reading peoples reviews so I know what kind of book I’m getting before I buy it. That saves me money and time, so I guess that supersedes the things that are not working. But if you could fix those that would be great. Thanks

Great app- love it! (One enhancement request). The Goodreads app is super easy to navigate and has great functionality for adding books that you’d like to read and allowing you to keep track of where you are when you’re part way through a given book. I barely use a bookmark when I read a physical book now. The ability to add a new book by scanning the cover by using the phone camera is really smart! One enhancement request that I would really appreciate: the ability to add a note to a book that is in the “Would like to read” category. I use the ‘Notes’ app on my phone to jot down not only books that I’d like to read but also WHO recommended a book to me. (That way I can follow up with them after to discuss.) Is there existing functionality within Goodreads that would allow this and if not could it be added?

Good...but could be better. First - let me say I love goodreads. I love how easy it is to track the books I’ve read, authors I love, etc. For a bookworm like me - goodreads is an excellent platform! I do, however, have 3 bones to pick with goodreads - 3 things I think would take goodreads from good to phenomenal. 1. New releases! Why is there not a page where you can see upcoming releases for all the series you’ve read?? I would love to have 2018 releases all consolidated in one place rather than having to rely on the want to read bookshelf that may include older books or going to each author’s page. If I’ve read all the books in a series that are currently out, I’d love to see what’s coming out this year. 2. Updating dates I’ve read books. For some reason, I tend to finish a lot of books on planes and the kindle app doesn’t upload the date I finished the book later when I connect to a network. Online, it’s easy to add those dates in later, but in the app it’s near impossible! I typically have to get on my computer or go to goodreads in the mobile browser and then select full site. It’s very frustrating and as a result, a lot of my finished books don’t have dates attached. 3. Progress on the annual reading challenge. I love that the app’s been updated to show you your progress, but what I don’t love is that it doesn’t tell you how many books ahead/behind you are like it does on the website.

Sweet Read... Especially if you love dogs!. Shelter in the Storm I can’t imagine what it must be like to face a hurricane of the magnitude bearing down on Port Provident, but after reading Kristen Ethridge’s book Shelter in the Storm, I have a small sense of the helplessness storm victims must experience. From the first chapter, I was hooked. Animal shelter director, Becca Collins and island veterinarian and Army veteran, Dr. Ross Read are professionals who are at odds in the community, but a storm and animals in great need unite them with a common cause. I am a sucker for a great dog book and if you make that dog a Labrador retriever, well... I am a goner! This really was a sweet story, and I want to spend a little more time in Port Provident with Kristen’s characters. The complications of family and finding strength in community are strong themes within these chapters. Kristen Ethridge, you have a new reader! Thank you!

App force quits. I just love being in the middle of writing a book review only to have this app force close on me and lose everything I’ve written. It literally just happened to me today, 2/1/24. It’s glitchy and chaos. I have thousands of read and reviewed books and hundreds of shelves on this app. It’s not even accurately counting my 2024 reading challenge—it hasn’t even counted 11 books I’ve read and reviewed so far. Sometimes it imports my Kindle highlights, sometimes not. More times than not, it won’t even load my shelves so I can sort books as I read them. It’s been like this for years. You can’t tag people or reply to them in this app. You have to look through others’ profiles, reviews and your past posts to make sure you’re not missing anything. You still miss a lot and it makes interacting hard. I keep saying I’ll abandon this app. Developers, pretty please make it more stable, autosave book reviews WHILE they’re being written, and add a way to tag other users for easier communication.

Title: A Transformative Guide on Ambition and Faith. As someone who often struggles with balancing ambition and spiritual faith, Dave Harvey’s “Rescuing Ambition” was a revelation. Harvey masterfully navigates the complex relationship between personal goals and spiritual fulfillment, offering a perspective that is both deeply insightful and immediately practical. What sets this book apart is its ability to speak to the reader on a personal level. Harvey doesn’t just preach; he guides. His use of real-life examples, combined with a deep understanding of biblical principles, makes for an engaging and enlightening read. Each chapter resonated with me, helping to reframe my ambitions in a way that aligns with my faith, rather than competing with it. Moreover, Harvey’s writing style is accessible and engaging. He has a gift for explaining complex spiritual concepts in a way that is easy to understand and apply to daily life. His compassionate approach makes you feel like he is right there with you, walking you through your journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. In conclusion, “Rescuing Ambition” is more than just a book; it’s a roadmap for anyone looking to harmonize their personal aspirations with their spiritual life. It’s a must-read for anyone who wants to pursue their dreams without losing sight of their faith. Highly recommended!

features that really need to be added.. add giveaway accessibility to the app 😩😩 having to go on a browser to enter / access them is just annoyingly inconvenient when i see no reason why they can’t be viewed inside the app? also- there are so many books i’ve read that do not have a matching edition for it. whether it’s the page count not matching but the cover is, the page count matching but the cover isn’t, or both. after about the 10th book, i did my googling only to find a several year old goodreads forum post that basically says that only librarians can add new editions. okay, this really isn’t a big issue i suppose- or WOULDN’T be, if you gave the option (at bare minimum) to upload a ‘new’ edition for librarians to see and approve/deny. my number of pages read at the end of the year won’t be correct and some of my covers don’t match either (and yes, i do care about that 😭)

Am I the only one?. I love this app, I’ve accepted that there are something on the actual site I’ll never be able to do on the app. I am fine with that because the app improves little by little all the time. But am I the only the app will crash on when I am trying to read certain reviews?? This has only happened since the last update but it’s starting to drive me crazy because, not only can I not read the review but I then have open the app back up, search the book again (maybe for the 4th time) and see if I can read another review. I did hear back from the developers stating I appear to be the only one with this issue and I should uninstall and then download again. Unfortunately that still hasn’t worked and the app is constantly crashing on me when I try to “read more” on some reviews. I’m not sure if those reviews have a lot of data such as gifs that are causing it, obviously because I can’t see them. But I will hold out hope.

Won’t let me read the full book. Ok, so before i got this app i read through the ratings, and I thought “ hmm if there are a lot of 5 stars this this could work for me” so i got it and opened it up, sighed in and blah blah blah. So i was going to see where the audiobooks where and didn’t find any, so i said, “then i guess ill have to read this even though i can’t pronounce half of the words in the book” and so i was trying to find the read button and couldn’t find it so i so went the little button that said something like “read” or “sample of this book”and so i clicked on that and i read like a few pages, not knowing what the big words where, i just skip em and then it was not the freaking whole book so i tried and tried and tried still nothing and before this i went online and searched up the audiobook for what i was reading and it came up with the sample and so after that i went to my app store and got this and then that is what happenedso don’t get this app its just showing you what books there are and other things other that the real thing so ya. SUE you your stupid apps whatever made this app

Thanks!!

They’re removing a number of beloved options. You guys are removing a number of offerings from your product, and your explanation and summary of changes is both too basic and extremely vague. You say you are doing this to “focus on what users like most,” but it’s clear from what you are removing that you don’t want to (or can’t afford to) pay for cloud storage space. I don’t ever recall being queried about how I use my account. I would prefer that companies just be honest when they explain why changes are taking place. This isn’t about users, it’s about your bottom line. Maybe you could try not to be like every other business and just be honest. Super disappointed not just for the changes (which remain unclear), but for your obviously untrue reasons for making such changes. You don’t even explain what format data requests will come as, and you don’t offer a choice. Most customers ask for more, not less, so don’t blame your users for why things are being taken away.

Love it. Only A Couple of Changes. I have been using Goodreads ever since they got rid of Shelfari. And I absolutely love it. The only thing I wish were added to the app were an easier way to get to the Giveaways. I end up having to either use the desktop version and then open the app from there or just use my computer. Also, it would be extremely helpful if Goodreads had a darkmode. I have frequent migraines and extreme light sensitivity and the bright background makes it really hard to use the app at times, even with the background light turned all the way down. Lastly if we could see our mothly and yearly reading displayed in some type of graph format that would be awesome. If those things were added/changed i would have no need for any other book app.

Please add .5 star options!!. I recently downloaded this app and I love it. It’s like a social media but just for books. You can add friends, review books, see other people’s reviews, like and comment on reviews, and create shelves (similar to Pinterest boards) for books that you want to categorize into more personalized categories. You can search by genre, and the app will give you personalized recommendations for future reads depending on what you chart. However, please please add an option to do .5 stars!! Sometimes a book is right in the middle for me and I’d really appreciate the option to give something a 3.5 rather than trying to decide if it’s more in the 3 or 4 category. Also, make it easier to add friends! The invite tab doesn’t work like you think it would, all the friends I’ve added have had to do a large process in order to befriend me.

Knowledge is Power. I read this book in response to an email I received from my son’s high school. Our community has recently become aware of a suicide crisis at our high school and is struggling and scrambling to understand it and address it. I don’t remember what the email said, but it was alerting parents to the subject matter of this book due to our current crisis. (Maybe a movie was coming out about it?) Anyway, I took on the reading under the guise of parental responsibility. But mostly I wanted to arm myself with facts. Just in case those parents who wish to protect their children by avoiding difficult topics began a crusade about or against this book. I liked it. It goes in a vein of other titles I’ve read that deal with wickedly difficult subjects like, for example, Unwind by Neal Shusterman. I appreciate his storytelling format more after reading the author’s interview and the end. I plan on asking my son to read it. Because I believe knowledge is power. And this book demonstrates beautifully, yet simply, how the things we do and say impact others. It also demonstrates, just as well, the importance of standing up for yourself and asking for help when you need it. True critique? I was bothered by the quick back and forth of Hannah’s story interjected with Clay’s real-time responses. I understand the value in telling the story this way, but it really disrupted the flow. I’m still really glad I read it.

Terrific read! Perfect for our times!. In Humankind: A Hopeful History, author Rutger Bregman posits that humans are, deep down, good natured bucking conventional wisdom. We were essentially neighborly, good willed and natured to one another as hunter-gatherers until the corrupting influence of the exploitative agrarian revolution with it’s kings, patriarchy, armies and private property. However, over the past ten thousand years since the ‘Garden of Eden’ period, humankind’s innate good nature has shown through, in war and in day to day experiences, of which Bregman provides many non-fictional but captivating stories where people did the right things for their fellow creature not because of the civilizing effect of culture, laws or religion but because we simply have evolved to be ‘Homo Puppy.’ While some may find Bregman’s point of view too sunshiny, there is an exhaustive amount of research provided to back up his ideas, which are compelling and persuasive. It is refreshing to read such a positive point of view about humanity but Rutger Bregman calls himself a ‘realist’... a ‘new realist.’ Look out Thomas Hobbs and Adam Smith! This Dutchman has got you in his crosshairs and his weapons may just be Christmas carol sung in the trenches of World War I, honest humanizing conversations and basketball games between wardens and prisoners in Norway or dinner with your mugger in the Bronx. Terrific read! Perfect for our times!

Please fix review page. I love this app, it motivates me to read more and opens my eyes to books I wouldn’t have known about, all while tracking the books I have read and want to read next. What I plead with you to fix is it when you are writing a review of a book and pulling down makes the whole page disappear and everything you wrote is gone! This has happened to be a few times while proofreading lengthy reviews, as a swipe down to read more, I lose it all! I often go back a few days later, much less excited and write a much shorter more blah review because I am so disappointed from losing all the spirit and thought I put into the first one! I remember no that I used to only use the website version on my laptop when writing reviews. But often when I finish a book late while lying in bed I just want to tap out my review right then instead of getting my computer out. Please make it so this doesn’t happen!

Setup experience is very poor. I just downloaded the app. I set up an account. It asks me what books I’ve read & to rate them, and that’s where the problems start. Where’s the “I read this book but I wanna re-read it” button (like Letterboxd)? Why is it so difficult to swipe to the next book without skipping and scrolling past it? Why, when I rate a book, do the (badly animated) loaded books after it have mismatching covers to the titles beneath them? And, why did the “skip” button get stuck loading on a spinner when I accidentally swiped back to the previous screen (share with friends)?? I didn’t even want to swipe back, I was just struggling with scrolling through the covers! I haven’t even gotten to the main app yet, and it’s already got me stuck and forcing me to close/restart the app. And now I can’t continue the setup process! If this is the experience of the rest of the app, then I’m going to be uninstalling it very soon. I have heard good things about this site, and I hope it improves on the horrible, messy welcome experience of the app.

My take. I’m approaching my sixtieth year as a reader. As such I’ve been asked many times what my favorite book is. I can never answer as many are tied for first place. The Rabbit Hutch is now one of them. The librarian told me that since I liked strange books I should read this. I was offended at first but she sure had me pegged. I could not get over the language in this book. I stopped and reread passages so many times that it slowed the process down, which I love. I found the book gripping because even though the ending is revealed at the beginning, at least somewhat, the journey to the end had me on edge. I try not to write too much about a book in a review as I don’t want to influence any reader’s experience. I highly recommend this book. I sure hope the author has another book like this in her.

An improvement on ‘The Expats’ but still quite weak. Kate and Dexter have moved to Paris and some other other characters enter in the story over the course of the book. Reader does not have to familiarize with an entirely new cast. Additionally the story unfolds over a the course of a day and does not have the disorienting shuffle between past and present one endured in ‘The Expats’. However, the plot loses steam halfway through the book and in the end, no character’s action makes sense. One wonders what victory - even symbolic - was there for the protagonist, Kate. The book left me dissatisfied enough where I would not invest time or hope in a third Chris Pavone book. Additionally, Pavone wears his politics on his sleeves even as a novel writer - making it clear to half of the country that he is not interested in writing for or entertaining them. In a good spy novel, I look for page turning suspense - which is mostly lacking in ‘The Expats’ and ‘Paris Diversion’. What I get in-stead is a labored plot as a vehicle for Pavone’s barrow worldview.

The Boy and the Lake by Adam Pelzman. Adam Pelzman has created a wonderfully complex and creative story of the coming of age of Benjamin Baum. He describes the enchanting beauty of summers at a lake community with all the fun and conviviality of celebrating the pleasures of summer. He provides a spectrum of quirky, admirable, and disturbing characters with all the kitch of an upwardly mobile Jewish community with traditional roots. Ben’s family contains an unpredictable, narcissistic and punishing mother who can also be loving and devoted, thus satisfyingly complex. Pelzman so well expresses the loyalty that silences the expression of pain and anger, leading to moments of shame, impulsiveness, and confusion. However this story is not bottom heavy with pathology. The author interweaves much humor and sly social observations against the ever changing splendor of the summer. We watch Ben struggle and grow through some very difficult and well plotted situations. His confidence and assertiveness slowly increases, and we’re on his side. As a Psychologist. I was very impressed with Pelzman’s descriptions of Ben’s conscious process as it is affected by dramatically unfolding events. There’s also a wonderful mystery here, with an ending that even this frequent mystery reader could not predict. We root for Ben continuing to develop as his opportunities grow, and I would love another book by this author that follows him forward. Barbara Barak Ph.D.

Useful app for sure but could be better.. I use this app to keep track of books I've read and whether I liked them or not. I have read so many books that I truly would forget if it was a 'want to read' or 'read' book. I like seeing recommendations too, when many people like a book it's usually worth reading. I recently like doing the reading challenges, like the number of books read in a year, but it's hard to keep accurate track without a catagory for books I have read more than once. I am currently rereading The Dark Tower series and there are other books on my list I've read more than once because I liked them, couldn't recall what it was about or other reasons. For that reason my last goal was reached but without an accurate count. That's my suggestion. Add a catagory for books 'Read More Than Once' or'Rereading'...something similar.

It seems to get worse and worse as time passes on.. I like this app, but I found certain features aren’t as available as they used to be nor do they work properly. Finding books has never been this easy. It’s mostly fast and efficient. My only gripes are it’s “mostly”. Sometimes when I save a book, it takes a few seconds for it to register. Also, it can be difficult to find original books in a different language. I hope they look into that. The other thing I find annoying is how even after you finish a book, your pages may always not be counted. It doesn’t matter if it’s in your “Currently Reading” or “Want to Read” lists. You can refresh it and that still doesn’t work. Now, I can’t access my records of the previous books I’ve read recently. Only the ones from the past. Why? What’s going on? Otherwise it’s ok. If you’re a book lover, you may enjoy this. It seems to be getting worse as the years go by.

It could be such a great app. Their algorithm for suggested readings is terrible. Because I read a nonfiction book on the American revolution they recommended Flowers in the Attic! Not even slightly similar books. I gave 2 stars to another book and they recommended another book because I “enjoyed” that one. Two stars does not suggest I enjoyed it. When you search for a book why does it show first in the list books that are not at all the title you typed?? It could be a lot better. I wish there was a way to look at only one of your book shelves and narrow it by "want to read" or "read". I want to use it at the library to find a book I have tagged to read and what the library has. It's not possible. I wish it had an option for "did not finish" reading. If a book is bad I don't finish it and I don't want to mark it as finished. It's also frustrating to write a review and keep getting the error that it's too long only you have no idea how long it is! So you don't know how much to cut. And why doesn't it have autocorrect yet? That's annoying.

READ Numbers Altering. Hello creators, before I decided to write this review I searched online to see if others were having the same issues I was and indeed hundred of people (or perhaps thousands, I didn’t scroll so much to find out) are having the same problems as I. Dear goodreads is eating up our Read books count and total books count. Every time I open the app or website I lose a number or two from my count. I reached out and left a commented on the recommended discussion thread. The response was that whoever was put on to fix this problem, could not fix it and it was elevated to management. It seems that this response was very common to many requests. Goodreads is still my number 1 place to go for books, however, not being able to keep track of what I read is disconcerting and disappointing from an app like this. Please, fix this issue for myself and everyone else. Otherwise, there are many MANY other ways for readers to keep track of their books and NOT lose them! Oh and STOP RECOMMENDING BOOKS BASED ON MY DNF SHELF, for crying out loud! Thank you!

Love the app but…. Grateful for the app and being able to get recommendations, leave reviews on books, and keep track of my books. I have happily used this app for years. Unfortunately, the app crashes too many times which makes me in turn not want to return to the app. I will be in the heat of reading something and then the app crashes. I cannot point to a single specific thing I am doing. It is almost as if it gives me a 15 min time limit and then kicks me off. Which is not ideal for an app about reading. I am trying to get back to reading expeditiously instead of writing this review 😅 Hence why I give 4️⃣ stars because the app is excellent but it can use improvement. More than happy to revise my review if it changes. Additionally, I wish there were alternative reading challenges. Thank you for taking the time to read my review.

Website over app. Unfortunately, the app just doesn’t measure up to the full website. For the longest time I didn’t realize that those huge blank spaces in reviews were actually images uploaded by the reviewer until one time I saw the same review online and had that “ooooooohhhh” moment. (Yeah, I was a little slow on the uptake there.) Sometimes the images are there on the app, but most of the time, they aren’t. And the app doesn’t even try to load them, it’s as if they just don’t exist outside of the website. You can exit the review and go back in to try to load the images, but don’t waste your time because once the app has decided that they don’t exist, you won’t ever get them to show up. That’s a little irritating, especially when a reviewer refers to their uploaded images. It seems like there must be a better way to get around this. Most of the time, the app is helpful, but this and a few other things hold it back from being 5 stars.

Love the idea, hate the UX. Having a comprehensive catalog of books with an active community of users who rate and review is a fantastic idea. And other than some occasional weird duplication where the same title shows up across multiple listings for no apparent reason, Goodreads excels at this. But OMG the interface. I can mostly get past the cluttered design and useless giveaway notifications. But too many other issues that continue even after years of updates. A sampling: —Reviews are sorted by number of likes, period. This creates a sort of death spiral where a certain type of already-popular fanboy/girl reviews just get more popular and any sort of fresh or more recent perspective is hopelessly buried 10 pages down. Give the user the option in settings to always sort by date, rating or likes. Otherwise, why would anyone with a life outside of Goodreads write reviews at all? —Make it possible to mark a book as DNF without it lingering forever on the “currently reading” shelf. Even better, make a DNF shelf one of the default options. —Let us create custom shelf names with spaces, capitalization, etc. without defaulting to lowercase and hyphens. Seriously, it feels like windows_file_naming_in_1996. —Allow editing of one shelf list without affecting other shelves. RN, attempting to delete a book from currently reading also removes it from my custom DNF shelf (and sometimes seems to put it back on want to read???).

✨Emily✨{marauders version}. Ok I love goodreads, but the glitches are making the app almost unusable! the website is fine but we’re talking about the app right now. there’s no way to reply to comments, there’s no way to change most settings, and there’s no way to add books without rating them. and those are just some of the few problems i have with the app. overall goodreads is just not user friendly. the glitches are ridiculous and becoming increasingly annoying. just a few days ago it stopped me and a ton of other people from searching the books in the search bar. it’s back now and everyone’s relieved but we shouldn’t have to celebrate our app working the way it should. a few things i want is half stars and better group functions. but i will say the app is incredible to use to talk to other readers and track your reading, but don’t expect it to be user friendly.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Is a fine novel of a woman who has suffered tremendously as a child, but has suppressed these events and isolated herself in her work, routines and rituals as well as vodka, all of which help her ward off her feelings. Then finds the love of her life, a musician she aims to marry in spite of having no real connection to him or even others; she sets off to improve herself skin-deep thinking this will be enough. Then, she and a co-worker end up saving the life of an older gentleman who draws her into his life and family. These changes slowly open her up to interacting with others and precipitate changes which lead her to a crisis. Therapy and the people who have stepped into her life help her uncover the events of her childhood and her repressed feelings so that she can begin to heal. At the beginning of the novel, her behavior can be seen as off-putting but by the end you can see that she will make real progress in her life and emotional well-being. Nicely done.

LOVE THIS APPPP NO CAP. This is a gr8 app for me to be able to log books I’ve read or want to read! I love how you can write little reviews and join this whole reading challenge, because it really motivates me to read books I’m interested in and achieving goals! The book suggestions based off of current/past reads and genres was a great idea! I don’t have to go around finding what I might like because the suggestions are so accurate to my liking based off of something I already like or liked. As a student, this makes it so much easier to keep track of my pages and number of books I need to read because it’s all in the reach of a click on my phone or laptop! This is amaaazing! I also like how you can add friends so you know you can see their progress with reading and do the challenge together! Love this so much! I don’t see much to change at the moment, so please keep up the good work!

Love this platform! BUT needs an update. If you’re a book nerd who’s also kind of competitive and nosy than this app is perfect for you. Nothing quite like seeing your friend beating you at their yearly reading challenge to give you a kick in the rear to finish that book you keep passing over. I also just love reading *about* books just as much as I love reading them so this platform really scratches that itch. My one critique is that you can’t add personal notes to books on your TBR! I’ll finally get a library hold in hand and then have no idea why I wanted to read this book. For me, reading is just as social as it is individual. I read largely because a friend read it and suggested it or one of my favorite BookTokkers did. When I can’t remember who recommended it or what piqued my interest in the first place, I lose a large point of appeal.

Can’t use the app long enough to enjoy it. This app is partly unusable because more than half of the time it crashed on me, especially when I’m looking for a book in the genres section. I don’t understand why this keeps occurring even after the app has been updated and the bugs have been “fixed”. Usually, the wouldn’t bother me, but now, every time you open the app, a notification asking you to update the app appears, however, the problem is that the app is updated and now you have to click “not now” to be able to use it regardless of if you have updated or not. For an app that’s so popular and has been around for so long, your think this app would have less bugs. There’s always something goes wrong like two weeks ago when it stoped working and the support team on twitter kept gaslighting people into updating or telling them to restart the app when everyone has the same issue and it was an app problem not a user problem.

My criticism comes from a place of love. I love Goodreads and see the potential for this to be an even bigger player in the book space… if they can fix just a few things. For starters, the app feels like it was built in 1999 and never updated again. It lags significantly when using most functions including searching, reviewing, etc. I’d love to see it modernized and sped up. I feel like we should be able to make custom bookshelves in the app, not being required to use the web version. Please add half star ratings for the love of god. It makes a huge difference and many people will just add their “true” rating to the review but we should be able to just see it without having to look at the review. The comment and reply situation is a bit chaotic and hard to follow. Take notes from social apps and allow comments and then replies within a thread below it so it’s easier to keep track of. I love that they have a sort of “wrapped” stats at the end. It’s fun to see how many books, pages, etc. but it could be a little more thoughtful. Show us how we compared to other readers worldwide, in our country, etc. Also what is the books count on your profile? Why is it including “wants to read” books rather than only showing “read”. I don’t care to see how many I want to read, show me how many I’ve read.

Why isn’t there be a private shelf option?. I love this app. I can easily organize books, see what my friends are reading, check out reviews, get recommendations—everything I need. Well, almost. Goodreads, you NEED to have an option for making a shelf “private,” not viewable by any friends. Pinterest has this feature and it’s a great way to plan surprise parties, check out wedding stuff or baby stuff before you get the ring or the positive pregnancy test. Sometimes, you don’t want people to see what you are planning or shopping for. Similarly, I don’t want my elderly Aunt Sally or my pretentious overachieving cousin to see some of the, ahem, trashy, racy books I’m reading. You know the ones, they usually have buff shirtless men on the cover. Should I be embarrassed that my eclectic tastes venture occasionally into this genre? No! But I am. And I want all the Goodreads benefits without the public shaming or judging. Please figure this out!

Great for book lovers/readers. -This app is great for keeping track of books you’ve read or want to read. You can create customized lists and such. -It’s also great for reading reviews and ratings of books. Many books have much, much more feedback than other sites and people take time to blog and review books. -I love the extra features like groups (there’s pretty much a group for anything so you will definitely find people who have similar interests!), reading challenges, recommended books, etc. One thing that I do not like is the email. Though it’s impressive and nice that there is even an messaging/emailing system, it can be a hassle at times. I’m in many groups and therefore receive many emails multiple times a week. The notifications about emails do not update properly. It’s hard mass deleting emails.

Good!. Generally, the wide range of books available on the site is amazing. There are probably thousands of books I’ve never heard of being consistently updated and there are recommendations based on both my tastes and popular picks sent to me in the app and via email every month. The app is good for what it advertises, and I enjoy it. However, I’ve been having a few issues with certain things, specifically with the slowness of the app. The design is okay, a bit clunky but easy to forgive out — but the servers are often slow and crash while loading, causing me to have to retry and reload the page in the app, or close it out completely. It may or may not have to do with my own experience, I’m not sure, but it’s something to consider. If you’re patient and don’t mind troubleshooting, this app is great! I’m just not that way (lol). I’m assuming the server overload is a current and temporary issue, but it is still a thing that bothers me.

Blasphemous and Potentially Dangerous. The book is well written and vividly describes a world that few of us even envision. I really wanted to like this book. The vivid descriptions of what you would assume to be spiritual characters in the book and spiritual topics are vivid and have the ability to drive home abstract qualities of faith and support belief but the careless or intentionally perverse use of scripture in some instances may enable readers to acquire a very perverse interpretation of biblical truth. What we read often shapes our world view and it concerns me how the parallel interpretations of this book may impact the worldview of future believers. The first born of God is Jesus Christ and taking on the likeness of man, he lived but did not sin. Compared to this authors depiction of Elyon’s firstborn is blasphemous of my Lord and Savior. Because the book reads well and appears to provide answers to difficult questions in life, I feel the book is too dangerous to recommend

Great concept, poor execution. This app has been around for a while and has thousands of users, so you would think that it would have better interface. It is prone to sending the same notifications multiple times a day. It crashes when updating reading statuses or adding “Want to Read” books. It glitches when adding friends. It forces you to do two updates when you start reading a book and when you first update the progress (which oftentimes I will start a book and get 20% or so through it in the first reading session). The notification badge won’t clear until you open the app multiple times. You can’t @ friends in comments. Friend’s statuses get lost in reading recommendations. With the cons aside, the app is such a great concept. It motivates me to keep reading and allows me to see what my friends are reading. I love that I can see their reviews and add the book to my Want to Read list in just a few clicks. Just needs a little more development!

Great quick naughty read!. This is the perfect book when you just want something to read in between a dark romance or a long series. I liked the BDSM but it could have used more. The H seemed to rarely say much throughout but it dint really take away too much. I liked the h and was happy that she didn’t “brat” through the entire book. She was already very knowledgeable in BDSM and that was something different. The one thing that I personally didn’t like and this is just my own opinion and others might not mind it at all, but I wish she went there either by herself or with someone else besides her twin brother. He wasn’t around much but it did seem like a strange place to visit with your brother. I do look forward to read more from this author, as this was the first book of hers I’ve read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Helpful App in need of real work. I think this app suffers from being the best in its category. It has a 4.8 star rating, though some of the reviews are actually for books people have read and not the app??? This is a great app to keep a record of what you’ve read and see what your friends have read and read reviews. The idea of the app is great, but the function of the app is really terrible. Every link you tap (to see a friend’s profile, to see your notifications, etc.) take forever to load. And the progress of the books on your shelf seems to rarely update correctly. I’m 50% into a book, but the shelf item shows that I’m still at 27%. Why? The back end of this app seems to be held together with chewing gum and scotch tape. Whoever the developer is of this app, please give it an overhaul!

Goodreads is like warm clothes out of the dryer.. Ah.. Goodreads. An app we all have come to know and love. Allow me to get right to the pie. I’m old fashioned. If it’s one thing I know for sure is that I’ve always preferred a physical book to hold and feel while diving into a story. A physical book is tangible, it is familiar. I’ve never been one for digital reading but LET ME TELL YA. when I came across Goodreads, surely I was skeptical at first. As an avid reader, I kept my distance from them until I decided to shoot the breeze and download the app. Goodreads allows me to expand my horizons and discover new books I’ve never read before, while also providing a comfortable and familiar layout that is easy to navigate. The people behind Goodreads are innovative and yet still provide a familiar environment in the app. It’s my favorite app for writing reviews on literature I’ve read and communicating with other readers like me. Excellent app! C. D.
