Uber Useful App. I use Penultimate for my Bullet Journal. It works great so far. I love all of the papers that come with it and the fact that I can create my own - which I have done and it's super easy. Also love that it's searchable with Evernote. As a professional artist/illustrator being able to search myriad notes makes it absolutely wonderful. I've had it lock up a couple times and I wish there were a few more colors. Also wish I could get the interface to disappear unless I was using it, but other than that it's Great!!

Absolutely disappointing. Absolutely disappointed by this app. I used it to write submissions for my university courses, and it’s done nothing but crash every time I even exit the app and try to use it again. Plus, the scroll feature doesn’t work properly when I zoom in and write. I finally managed to write my submission somehow but when I tried sharing the doc to submit it, it says it shared it, but when I check my submission portal for something else the next day I find that it never went through. I tried upgrading to premium so I could move my stuff to Evernote, but it won’t even let me do that because it restricts the card I can use to pay for premium and then fails to process the subscription payment on the card that it allows me to use. In summary: constantly crashes, scrolling doesn’t work properly, sharing files is hit-or-miss, and I can’t even upgrade so all my notes get saved. If I could give it a lower rating I would.

IOS 10 Broke this App--Apple Pencil Stutters Madly Now. iOS10 broke this app. It's not just the Jotscript stylus that won't work correctly anymore. Apple Pencil won't work correctly, either. Your letters (in handwriting) and lines (in drawing) constantly stutter and cut out, or alternatively continue even though you've lifted the stylus off of the screen. Easy, clear handwriting now looks like chicken scratch because the app keeps dropping and confusing its connection with the input system. I used Penultimate very heavily for personal not-taking for six months on my iPad Pro 12.9 and it worked like magic. The moment I installed iOS 10, Penultimate became almost useless. I paid for it and so did a lot of other people. Now fix this app.

Promising. I use this app every day to take notes in class. So far it is the easiest app to use that does what I need. There are a couple things, though, that I wish penultimate did. One thing I would love to see is the ability to create shapes and straight lines. I think being able to incorporate basic shapes is super useful in note taking. I also think the lasso tool could use improvement. It’s really frustrating having to circle something five times trying to get it to capture all of what you want only to have it miss a few spots within the lasso. I would also love to see more features for adding photos. Being able to crop, rotate, zoom, bring forward, send back, etc. are pretty common and would be really useful. My final note is to fix the “bookmark” capability. It’s really annoying to switch between apps because whenever I switch back to penultimate it brings me two pages above where I left off.

Penultimate +iPad Pro +plus iPencil +Evernote. I have been using this combination for about 4 years. It does everything that I needed to do. I am sure that I am not using it to its fullest potential as I use it for a personal notebook and sketch pad but rarely share or collaborate with others. It has worked flawlessly for me in that job. I have always been a note taker. With this combination notetaking is easy, it’s fast and I can always find every note even from years ago. Penultimate is the best application for creating a combination to do, I did, I shouldn’t have done, why did I do that, and did I really do that list. And for better or worse it is all in written down for you to reflect on.

Works great with Evernote but could use some tweaks. Penultimate could be a great app with a little TLC from the developers. It’s integration with Evernote is seamless. The only othe app that comes close is Noteshelf, but it uses a different organization system, so it’s not as intuitive. As a note taking app, Penultimate is pretty good. It’s simple enough to start using right away but still has a fair number of features. There are a few things I think the developer could fix pretty easily but they don’t appear to have done any work on the app for a number of years. -palm rejection with the Apple Pencil doesn’t work well. It’s pretty good, but I still get marks on the bottom of my notes. -when cutting part of a note and moving it, there are stray marks left behind. -you can’t add a title to the note when first entering it. You have to exit the note first. -image manipulation is problematic. One example is if you make notations on an image and then move the image, the notations get left behind. I like Noteshelf better, but still use Penultimate the most because of it’s integration with Evernote.

Doesn’t work with iOS 11. I LOVED this app for so long and used it to write all my school notes instead of wasting tons of paper notebooks. It’s great that it syncs with Evernote so I can access them on all my devices. HOWEVER, Evernote apparently bought the app and then abandoned it because it hasn’t been updated in over a year and now that I’ve upgraded to iOS 11, I can’t access any of my notebooks or create new ones because the app just crashes. I can still see the notes through Evernote, but I can’t add more. This app was absolutely wonderful while it lasted. I’ll keep checking to see if it gets updated in the future, but I’ve moved on to another app for the time being (and it’s not as good, so I’m super annoyed). PLEASE UPDATE THIS APP!!!

Unexpected crash. Hello idk if you read the reviews for these or not, but just a heads up, the app just all of a sudden as of today started to unexpectedly crash and this happened right after I moved a note file from one of my Evernote folders (on the iPad) into the penultimate folder and idk if it’s got something to do with the app or if it’s my iPad in general but the syncing is an issue. Otherwise I absolutely love the app! If you need any furrther infopleas feel free to ask

Potential to be a good app...... I have tried many writing apps, and they all didn’t work for me. Then I saw Penultimate in the Today story Capture Your Thoughts, and I decided to give it a chance. I downloaded the app and found some bugs. It wouldn’t let me delete pages, when I zoomed in, the speed was too fast, and when I tried to adjust it, it just sat at 9 and there was nothing I could do about it. But there are some good things, too. The technology was very fast, and the tools were very nice. I liked the part where you could hand-write your notes, and the way you designed the app was very good. It has potential, but you just need to fix a few bugs and I will give a 5-star rating!

It's good but I keep finding things I wish it did. I use penultimate to take notes for my classes on my iPad Pro. It's nice to just be able to write, not type notes. But it's not perfect. The two major things I wish it did was zoom in on pictures. I often times insert screen shots from PowerPoint or online and when I go back to review my notes I am always trying to use two fingers to zoom in on the picture which is just a feature the app does not do. I also wish it allowed me to arrange my notes in whatever order I want. I have my app organized so that each class gets its own 'noteboook' but when I open the notebook I don't get organize the 'sub notebooks' in my own order, the app automatically organizes them in order of most recently opened. My other big compliment and this one is really annoying! When I double tap my home button to switch between apps to say take a screen shot and then go back to penultimate the app opens at a page 2-3 pages above where I left it. This is probably the most disruptive feature the app is lacking to note taking in class. Maybe Evernote can make this happen in the next update. I really hope so! This app has so much potential and with a little more care it could be perfect

Obsessed!. Love everything about this app! From the different features, ways to organize, and the fact that you can have multiple notebooks for free is great. The only thing that you have to do is create an Evernote account so that you can create multiple notebooks. Other than that I’ve had the app for a few months and haven’t ran into any problems or bugs if I do I’ll definitely come back and update this review but for right now it’s top tier 5 stars for me!

Bugs not fixed after two years. I’m really disappointed with the Evernote and penultimate team. I’ve used this app for all my notes for years, and after the update to version 6, at lead two years ago, there are still bugs and missing functionality. First of all, when I enter a notebook, it always takes me to a page that is about 3/4 from the end, instead of the last page where I finished writing my notes last time. When I have 100+ pages, this is really inconvenient. Second of all, if I accidentally put my iPad into landscape mode, penultimate loses it’s place and again, takes me to a page 3/4 from the end. I don’t know why, but it makes things really inconvenient if I’m in the middle of a lecture and don’t have time to navigate between pages. The copy and paste functionally often misses pixels. I don’t know why it does this, but it makes the drag and drop stuff nearly unusable. Finally, there is still no functionality to merge notes. If I write my notes in he wrong notebook, the only way to fix it is to copy and paste manually, which as mentioned before, drops pixels. I’m definitely switching to Microsoft OneNote at the end of the semester. If penultimate fixes these problems by then, I’ll change my review to 5 stars. I really have liked penultimate, but I can’t recommend it at all given the issues.

Only good thing is that it syncs to Evernote. What a disappointment. I really like GoodNotes but trying to streamline my notes into Evernote, my filing and project management system. Penultimate seemed like a good replacement option. I have a Apple Pencil and iPad Pro, Evernote and Penultimate, hoping for a seamless system. Penultimate has about 1/10th of the functionality of GoodNotes. No PDF import for custom papers (can import jpeg, but results are blurred), can’t integrate text and writing at same time, no zoom of paper (zoom opens a box to write in, not zoom the paper), no conversion of handwriting to text, and many more. And once the note syncs in Evernote, no ability to markup or change the penultimate note in Evernote. Evernote’s stylus functionality is even more rudimentary than Penultimate. Again, what a disappointment! I went for Evernote Pro...maybe that was a mistake. Gonna give OneNote a try. Microsoft has done great things with Apple Pencil and iPad integration.

Great App With Few, Minor Flaws. I hemmed and hawed between 4 and 5 stars. Ultimately, I just use this app so often and have so few issues with it that I had to go with 5 stars. Organization is definitely best done in browser rather than in app. The browser functionality allows you to more easily move notes from one notebook to another. That was a game changer. I do also wish you could share a page as a pdf out of one of the notebooks. If this is possible, I haven’t figured out how to do it yet. Someone please tell me. Other than that, I find this to be a ludicrously easy to use, simple note taking app. I’ve got it organized to a great point where I just have all my notes easily accessible and ready to use. I’ve only used this app with my Apple Pencil, so I don’t know how good or bad it is without a pencil or other stylus

Great App until you have lots of pages.... I’m not sure why Evernote seems to not really care about this app. It hasn’t been updated in 4 mos right now, yet I see things all the time that should be updated. I find it unacceptable given the fact that everyone uses apple pencils and stylus now. AND that note taking IS their business! I tried all the other note taking apps and eventually decided penultimate is the best. The writing, the organization and the syncing with Evernote are all necessary for me to use this app like...well a notebook. But when I open my moleskines, I used the ribbon or post-its to return to the last page I was using. You won’t find that in this app. It will take you to any random page within your notebook and then you have to scramble to find where you were. I looked this problem up and it seems that it’s been happening since 2015...wow. Nope. Lastly, couldn’t they add gestures for undo and redo?? I mean geez. I’m using a giant iPad, I don’t want to go all the way up to the corner to undo a mistake. Two-finger double tap, rewind...something! Anything! It’s back to the drawing board for me. I’m gonna have to try Good Notes again—even though I pay for Evernote premium!

Needs update!!. This app has some significant bugs that are making it difficult to use with consistency. When you move away from the app or move to the multi page view, it returns you to a random page in the doc. SO ANNOYING. Also, the copy page button has stopped working. It just brings you to the multi page view. This means there is no way to insert a new page between pages except to add a page at the end of the doc and move it up. If it’s more than 8 pages, that is a huge hassle. This is more problematic because there should be a way to insert a page easily in between anyways, and the copy page button was a workaround for a feature which should exist anyways. The zoom has issues too. The writing in this app is very smooth, but I’m about to switch because it’s very impractical.

The ultimate.. I know I'm in a minoity here, but I think this is probably the best writing app out there.I use it for taking all my college notes because it is elegant and immensely useful, especially combined with Evernote. It works wonderfully with my Adonit stylus. What really puts it on top for me, though, is the smooth automatic, adjustable scrolling for writing at length in fine detail. No other app I've tried has felt as natural or intuitive. I highly recommend this app, particularly if you can afford a stylus like the jot script 2. It is worth it!

Simple and fast with a painful bug. This app does a wonderful job of keeping things simple when all you want to do is write. Unlike OneNote, the writing is so much faster and responsive, without any noticeable lag and I feel like everything I've looked for on this app had expected behavior. I never had look up how to do something. The biggest complaint that I have for this app is when switching between apps, the position of your screen is lost. Your placed 3-5 pages above the last page of the book (or generally wherever you left off). It's infuriating when I'm writing down some notes from a web page or plotting a graph and having to constantly find my position again. It destroys my flow and makes the experience more painful and frustrating over time. Hopefully next dev cycle they can target this issue and bring some sensible behavior into this problem.

Very frustrating if you need help. This app has been amazing for my meeting files on the go, but when I purchased a new device, my information did not transfer over correctly. Any time I try to access one of the files, the app crashes. I spent an hour at Apple, and know it is not a hardware issue. There is not way to get help or support short of online blogs and public forums... or you can pay to upgrade and have access to help via email. Very disappointing that there is ZERO customer support, not even a chat function. I am unable to use the app any longer, and will have to look for something else.

Could be a really great app, but falls short.. Penultimate is a great app with a frustrating user experience. The writing is smooth and the tools are very useful for taking notes in meetings or in class, but a few flaws make using the app so frustrating that it’s almost not worth using. 1. You can only change the title of a note AFTER you close it. 2. When using an Apple Pencil you still have to use two fingers to scroll and scrolling through multiple pages is a pain because the app will randomly start writing where you’re scrolling awkwardly with two fingers. Most other note-taking apps support pencil-only writing and single finger scrolling, why doesn’t this one? 3. You can’t change the colors or appearance of notebook covers in the “notebooks” view. When you have more than a few notebooks it becomes a pain to find the one you’re looking for. 4. If you switch between apps, when you return to Penultimate it starts you a few pages back from where you left off. This means you have to constantly scroll through the note to continue from where you were writing before you left the app. If Evernote fixes these problems, the app could become the best note-taking app in the App Store. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Evernote cares much about user experience.

My go to!. I have downloaded a lot of note taking apps to see which ones I like best and I always go back to this one. As a designer the different papers allow me to space plan, attach a picture and sketch all at the same time. I have recommended this app to lots of creative friends. I deleted penultimate after I lost all my notebooks when Evernote changed everything about this app. I was incredibly disappointed to loose an app that I went to all the time. Nothing compared. Then I read that after many people complained Evernote brought back a lot of the old features of penultimate and it's back on my iPad! Thank god!! Thank you for bringing back the note books. After trying to find a replacement I would like to suggest a feature. Instead of having to to up and down to switch from eraser to writing tool, When you use the eraser I would like to see it automatically switch back to the selected pen or writing tool once you lift your stylist off the surface. It makes for a smoother more natural progression.

Part of my daily routine for years.. I love this app. It has many useful features including synchronization between devices through Evernote, collection by notebook, pen colors and thickness, highlighting, and zoom + side-scrolling as you write. I’ve literally been using this app for years as a part of my daily journal, even through its major overhauls and updates. This application is almost 5-star quality. There are just a few issues that have not been addressed that make it impossible for me to give it the full 5 in good conscience: 1) Occasional glitchy scrolling, both up-down and left-right. 2) Doesn’t play well with multitasking: loses my place and now for some reason zooms in on the main section 3) Blank notes/missing strokes. This one’s actually pretty major- some notes have seemingly been erased. If not the entire note, sometimes I’ve seen pen strokes disappear... If there was a fix for those few things, I would be overjoyed with this app, it’s really great aside from these few bugs. Please work on those, Evernote Team! :)

I love it’s simplicity and reliability. I’ve been using Penultimate for over 6 years now - almost daily. I’m on iPad Pro with pencil and like this for basic note taking , morning pages, first drafts, etc. I’m an artist and use Procreate for digital art so I like the fact that Penultimate is not tool heavy- I don’t need a lot of choices to distract me when I just want to write. I sync all of my Penultimate notes/notebooks in Evernote which is really handy for organization.

Great but still needs progress. I’ve been using this app for a while now and it certainly proves itself to be a pretty great notetaking app for multiple purposes However, there are some quality of life things still missing with this app which ruin a lot of the enjoyable experience by adding some level of frustration Such things include not being able to move notes from one notebook to another, glitch where you cannot name a new notebook by the same name of an already deleted notebook, with the Logitech Digital Crayon there seems to be some confusion with how the highlighter will be angled, no edits can be made to default note names, can’t change the color of notebooks, selecting certain parts of a piece of writing will from time to time leave little dots of pencil that didn’t move alongside the selection, and a lack of a default paper style.

I use it a lot. I like this app and use it a lot, not just for note taking but for simple graphic sketches as well. It has managed to replace my need to take a library worth of paper notes. I really enjoy the Apple Pencil with my iPad Pro, it works very well. It's not exactly like normal handwriting, but very close, and I can easily erase or undo mistakes. The one big complaint is that, relatively speaking the 'pages' are very small compared to writing on paper, more like a 5x7 notebook, which I find way too small. Otherwise I agree that there should be more color options, but it is a really good functional program for me.

Getting long in the tooth - needs revamp. When penultimate first came out, it was awesome and nothing available quite like it on the market. But with the passing of time, other apps have come into the market, and one can’t help notice that penultimate /Evernote has done little to keep up. So many annoying quirks with this app are ignored. When opening my app, I expect my notes application to remember my preferred pen size settings and not default to …’default state’ When I open my note, why am I randomly dropped in the middle of my notes, rather than at the end or latest written page? Or why not ask? There should be support for Apple Pencil tap functions for erasing…. Scroll bars or transparent ones are ok. Maybe a page hopper? How about tags? Oh boy how can I search for tags? I mean seriously, these should be no brainer updates in 2021.

GET THIS! YOU WONT REGRET IT!. i love this app sooooo much. i whole heartedly recommend you getting this. i have downloaded about 5 or 6 notes apps and none of them worked the way this one does. tbh i didnt have high hopes for this. i needed a note app to takes notes for school. i thought it was just going to be one of those note taking apps that dont work well. I WAS WRONG. this is the best quality and writes sooooo smoothly. i have a stylus that can sometimes get a little shaky, but with this app you cant tell LITERALLY AT ALL. i just wanna say GET THIS APP! YOU WONT REGRET IT! and you will be completely satisfied with everything. thank you sooooooo much for making this!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Potential to be wonderful. This app is one of the best free ones out there but there are certain basic improvements that really must be made asap: 1. Scrolling is a pain. It’s not smooth, and there are accidental scribbles along the page when you scroll. Why not have options to enable using only the pen for writing purposes? 2. Palm rejection isn’t great. There are always tiny dots where my pal usually is. 3. There’s something wrong with the way the clipping function works. When you select a certain portion of your notes to be moved elsewhere, for some strange reason it leaves behind tiny parts of it on the part where you wrote it. So you have to fill in the missing details and also erase all the bits left behind. God forbid you want to move it only slightly, then the two things overlap and that’s a nightmare.

Great app, can be improved. Penultimate is great app to replace paper and pen however it can be made better. Currently there is a virtual button to take the box where we are writing to a level below but there is no option to move the box to the right. We need to move the box ourselves. It would be very helpful if by a click of a button, the writing space or the box moves to the right and positions itself where it currently is ending. Secondly, if we there is an option to move the box as we write. It makes it difficult to write properly. It will be better the box scrolls to the right when we lift the stylus and not while writing.

Needs audio recording. Penultimate is a fantastic note-taking tool for people who use Evernote. But it's missing the ability to record audio while taking notes. I used to use a Livescribe pen for taking notes, so I had the recorded audio of a meeting together with the written notes, which was great. Now I use the iPad Pro and Pencil and Penultimate, which is fantastic - it synchs to Evernote automatically, takes typed or written notes, written text is searchable, etc., which is all fantastic. But it's version of audio recording is useless. You have to stop taking notes, and just record audio. There are other apps that record audio while taking written notes, like the Livescribe pen, but they don't synch with Evernote; at best they export to Evernote, which means that you have to remember to do so after every meeting, and if you update notes you have to re-export, creating duplicate copies of the notes in Evernote, one for each version. The syncing in Penultimate is fantastic! So I give it four stars. If they added audio recording while taking notes, I'd be thrilled to give it a fifth star.

Love it!. I use this app on an iPad using the Apple Pencil and it is great. I would just like a feature that would be easier to use if I wanted to draw diagrams or reference sketches, one that I could zoom in a little more easily and around the diagram/drawing. Having a separate function for that rather than one just for writing, maybe a tool to go back and forth, would be a great addition. Still love the app and I use it often. It is a great alternative to use for paper, but still be able to have the feeling of traditional writing. Hope to see how they advance it!

It’s ok, but gets more frustrating over time. I’ve used this app with Apple Pencil for 2 semesters now. I like the writing response with the pencil and I use it in conjunction with Evernote. It generally gets the job done. A few major complaints are the color options are very few and don’t really pop, the blue nearly looks black. The highlighter option is also annoying, I wish that passing over an area twice wouldn’t deepen the highlight, it makes quick highlighting in lecture more difficult. Also, the scrolling is annoying and not very responsive so if I need to scroll up to reference past notes and then scroll back down to continue writing, it’s a struggle. The zoom function is also annoying, a regular pinch zoom would be much easier. I may look for another app to use next semester because this app is really getting on my nerves. The whole time I’ve used it, I haven’t seen any major upgrades or attempts to change so maybe I can use another app that still has active development. It just seems like if you spend the money to subscribe, you should get more bang for your buck. Hope this helps.

You’d be toast if it were not for Evernote. I only use Penultimate because it automatically imports into Evernote, which makes my terrible handwriting searchable. The Penultimate writing interface is a little unusual. The sliding advancing window works really well for me. It keeps my hand in one place. On iPadOS, the central control at the top is too close to the split screen, for example when you want to change color, you wind up hitting the 3 dots. I’ve seen on Good Notes a really cool thing that I now can’t live without, and Penultimate suffers because it doesn’t have it. When you select the eraser, after you erase and raise your pen, Penultimate should return the tool to the one it was before the erase tool was selected. This is so smooth on other apps, but clunky here, where you have to re-select the prior tool (pen/brush/…) And whatever you do, don’t waste your time and $80 on an Adonit Jot. Complete horror show.

Could be better, but it does its job. I am a premed and Ive been using penultimate for a while now with apple pencil, its a great way to replace paper and i like how the pen tool flows. But the app is limited in some ways - there should be at least one more pen or pencil option. - more color options, maybe a color wheel so infinite colors would be possible. I like to take colorful notes so i wont get lost in the learning process. - if a color wheel is not a good option, then the highlighter should have neon-ish color options, because it looks weird and rough with the regular available colors - the crop tool would be flawless, but when you drag the selected part it leaves a few pieces of ink behind which is extremely annoying - a ruler would make math notations amazing - eraser size options would be nice but not number one priority -sub-folders inside the notebooks would optimize organization I dont think i need to pay for a better note taking app when penultimate is the best one to capture handwriting without making it look shaky or like i had used only my finger, i already invested too much on ipad pro, but i just wish it had a couple more options.

Love it, but could be improved. I’ve been using this app since 2017. I love it. I’ve always preferred handwritten notes and this app allowed me the freedom to minimize my physical notebook collection. There are improvements that could be made, as other reviewers have mentioned. It would be nice if it were easier to reorganize notes (i.e. moving notes between notebooks). I won’t reiterate the suggestions others have made. That is my one suggestion.

Good, but could be better. I've been using the basic version with the Apple pencil to take notes instead of using paper for several weeks now and it is mostly great. The only big issue is when I pick up to continue writing towards the right edge of the screen, the app tries to scroll with my hand rest instead of writing, so I have to adjust a bit. It would be nice if the app gave deference to the pen over other inputs. Update: Having some concerns about notes that were sync'd to the cloud, I deleted them from the Evernote server but that also deleted them locally. Would prefer a secure version that doesn't require 'the cloud"

This is the best app on my iPad...Hands Down. Ios10 broke this app with Jotscript 2 stylus. Really difficult to use with jotscript and has adversely affected my workflow. Previous review before ISO 10 Penultimate with the recent release is the best release to date. This app is simply amazing, out of all the note taking apps. Notes Plus is good feature set however, I converted to Penultimate because I just use it more. It's super easy to just get down to what matters, my notes. The other apps are really all the same. They have small variances however, penultimate is minimalistic and only holds the best most used features. - syncs seamlessly with Evernote - unique and accurate handwriting experience (Jotscript is amazing) - awesome UI and design. So fresh and clean clean - search is a unbelievably accurate - highlighter & eraser style is very cool and unique - different view helps review notes without the cumbersome scroll - different styles of paper (now free) are super helpful This is def a must try and have app. It's really the best version of penultimate that I've tried. If anything the last piece of improvement is the PDF in annotation that would make it a 10 out of 10. This app you get to work and it just ... works. Everything you'd expect from Evernote. I use it heavy for personal and professional use. If you are a writer, heavy note taker or like to get stuff out of your head and into paper (digital) this is the most amazing app to do that in.

Needs Updates!!!. This app would be better if you could import Word Documents and PowerPoints. It would also be useful if you could edit photos and type in the app. It is inconvenient to have to take screenshots of every document I need then edit them in my photos and then import them to the app. Also, it would be helpful if you could write in split screen view. It would also help if the pages would not change in the notebook every time you close the app. It makes it very difficult to go back and forth between documents and books, especially when you are forced to do this because you cant write when the screen is split. It would be useful if this app was able to sink with Evernote.

Great note taking app. Pencil support makes this app great to use. Now if they could disable finger input when using the Apple Pencil, that would be even better! Also, we need a button that takes us straight to the notebook title (2 levels up) and one that takes us to the main page (3 levels up) from the specific note being edited. If the home page could also display a shortcut to a favorite note, it would make it so much easier to jot down quick notes.

Works but a couple annoying features. I use this app every morning for journaling and note taking for 4 months now. As a whole The app works pretty well, especially with the Apple Pen. There are a couple very annoying features though that brought me to write this review. 1. When I pop between apps by swiping up in the iPad (like readings I am going through), when I come back to this app it will sometimes put me back 2-3 pages in my notes from where I left off. This happens about 60% of the time and really gets annoying when you have to keep popping back and forth. 2. You can’t rearrange anything for better organization. Or at least I haven’t found a way and have looked for a long while. What I mean is, you can create folders to house similar documents but you can’t rearrange the order of the folders so that the most commonly used or similar topics would be grouped by each other. They just become scattered without any rhyme or reason. Also heaven forbid you spend an hour taking notes on something in the wrong folder/location, which I have done a couple times now. And that is unfortunately now where those documents live. There is no way of moving it to the correct folder, which in my opinion is almost a deal breaker for a note taking app. If this is possible it is not easily found in the app.

Hard to beat this.... Penultimate, used in conjunction with Apple Pencil on the iPad Pro 9.7, is hard to beat. It literally looks like i am using a sheet of paper and a pen to take notes in a notebook. I wish that it had sub folders for the notebooks as this would greatly help organize my thoughts when writing novels. Right now, I am using penultimate to create a children's book for my son. Using Procreate, Pencil, and the Smart Keyboard, it is the most seamless creating tool i have ever used. Granted, I haven't used this app with any other stylus. I have used other note taking apps with other styli and I have to say that Apple Pencil is the best ever. So maybe it is the pencil that makes this app so great. I have not yet felt the need to try any other note taking app because Penultimate satisfies most of my needs. Four stars because it meets those needs. I'm not feeling pressed to buy anything. Highly recommend in conjunction with pencil.

One huge plus: Evernote support. There really is very little to commend in Penultimate. It is very simply, a handwriting app. I use it for my daily (mostly) handwritten journal, and the only reason I do is that it automagically uploads the finished pages to Evernote. That’s it. That’s the single feature that keeps me from going elsewhere. Certainly, I could use another note taking app for handwriting. Heck, even apple notes allows that now. But then I’d have to export or share to Evernote when I was done..... I know.... first world problems. There are much better note-taking apps out there, and if Evernote isn’t a key factor for you, I’d jump on GoodNotes or Notability, both of which have more features/functionality than Penultimate.

So close to awesome yet so far away..... Pros - The responsiveness is FANTASTIC compared to other note taking apps. I like the knife feature to move bits around rather than recreate. I LOVE that it can pop into Evernote. Cons - There is a severe lack of filing / organization capabilities. Even the note app has folders and sub folders. Number of color selection is ridiculously low... need the link to color selection palette Pen thickness jumps from 2-5 with huge difference... Needs a 3-3.5 equivalent. So many useless paper types and few with functional needs. Thin line is not thin.. sp number of lines per page too Snap non-existent - NEED for shape drawing or section separation. Preset shapes to choose would be major plus. Highlighters... All but yellow and maybe red are too dark on first pass. Second pass too dark on all. Have diff shades.... second pass to get areas missed stay same color. This would be HUGE plus for students annotation. Insert - photos ok but proportion should be optional. NEED PDF INSERT CAPABILITIES WITH ANNOTATION..... THAT WOULD BE A GAMECHANGER FOR MANY MANY PURPOSES

Penultimate. I love this app. It's perfect - almost. There is one glaring issue I have with it.. importing photos. One use I have for this app is writing out a weekly schedule for my employees. Since there is no such template in the app, I created one in Excel, screenshot it, and tried to import into Penultimate. That worked well, except the picture came out extremely faded. So faded, in fact, that I can barely see anything. I tried this with other photos and got the same result. There is no troubleshooting article on it and I cannot contact support because I am not a subscriber. I'm not going to pay for something that isn't completely functional and requires a subscription to ask for help.

Great help with everyday notes!. This app is very helpful with school work and writing school essays. One thing i do recommend is that you do have a style pen or whatever it is called to help you write, it also can let you work on your drawing skills on a device. Now I will tell you the things I don’t like about this app: i do wish it could have more colors and it would be nice if you could erase easily then taking forever! so this what I think about this app so try it yourself and write your own review!

Okay- could be a lot better. Love Evernote, but the bugs in Penultimate keep piling up. Every time I switch away from app, the notes scroll backwards 5-10 pages, inserting photos causes them to likewise be inserted on random pages, not the most recent, and there's no way to scroll to another page while trying to insert one, selecting and moving text leaves spots and bits of the text all over, two-finger scrolling is difficult and sometimes stops responding (turning off multitasking gestures doesn't help), and when using an Apple Pencil highlighter angle and thus width of highlight is random, and your finger will still write and sometimes screw things up. A little work toward these bugs would go a long way.

It Works, but could be so much more. After many years, it’s still very clear to me that penultimate was an acquisition by evernote and not a ground up notetaking app built by them. For example, why is it that there’s a separate annotation and drawing/writing function in evernote? Why isn’t penultimate fully integrated into evernote as a first class way to take notes by now? Other problems include tagging, pdf annotation, syncing, minor navigation bugs, and a general lack of innovation velocity when compared to other handwriting apps. It’s 2018, and stylus’ are *really* good. I wish evernote would take handwritten notes seriously!

Love this app, but there could be improvements. I really love this app and use it so often, which also reveals limitations. For example, I’d love to be able to copy/paste one (or select) page(s) within a single “book” and paste; I’d then like to paste that page elsewhere in the same book or, perhaps, in a new book that already exists. I’d also like to copy some files into other collections rather than have to reproduce them from scratch. Copying a journal into the same collection helps, but it doesn’t meet all needs, so I spend more time doing work arounds that it gets frustrating. Still, I love the possibilities and what I’ve been able to do.

Where have you been all my life?!. As a gen x-er, l take notes and notes and notes... which means that the piles of yellow paper used to pile up, making it hard to both file and search these notes later. My iPad, Apple Pencil I and Penultimate have completely solved this problem. Not only can I now carry a cabinet full of notes to meetings, I can also search for keywords, draw and write in different colors and pen thicknesses, and even move chunks of text around the page.

Small Fixes Required. Great app, love the overall aesthetic. There are a few changes that need to be made in order for it to be more user friendly. 1st. The feature to only use an apple pen doesn’t work. It will often pick up my hand resting on the page. I’ll even recollaborate it and it continues. It’s SO irritating. 2nd. The color changing tool is now underneath apples new split screen button on my iPad Pro. I cannot change the color with ease. I also wish there were more colors or a color when to pick from. I want pink 😍 3rd isn’t that important but I wish there were a todo list template with skinnier rule. There’s so much space in between lines.

Brilliant. Constantly used, and is on the top of my note-taking app list. This app has little to no flaws, and has never crashed on me, making it perfect for professional uses. Over all, this would probably have to be my all-time favourite note-taking app, as it works flawlessly, and I now have no need for paper notepads, books, etc. and my notes can be synced via. Evernote to my computer, making them easy to access from anywhere. I love the liberty of this app, and even the pen stokes. I am very impressed. Thanks Evernote.

Old bad habits out, new bad ones in. Yet again, another miss. I'm a Premium Evernote user, love my Jot Pro stylus and digital writing, but this app yet again has missed the mark. Thankfully, gone is the weird Drift zoom feature, to be replaced with a zoom window and a window to write in down below, like so many other apps. But, it doesn't automatically move along as you write, requiring you to drag the zoom-box along every couple of words. If you make a mistake, just tap the Back button. But, do it accurately, because the text all around the buttons is still live, and if you miss-hit you move the zoom-box up to the top. Such bad design and another fail. Evernote - just pay the guy who wrote Notes Plus whatever he wants, build in sync to Evernote then DONT TOUCH IT! You'll have the killer app. Try harder!

Changed the way I use my iPad. Great app for use with Apple Pencil and Evernote. Would be good to have more flexibility in ordering and organizing the notes, but overall a really great product used everyday.

Difficult to find what you have historically written. Good app and I use is daily, but I’m on the look for a similar app that allows me to move documents within different folders, and search by date. This is something Evernote/Penultimate said was in development 12 months ago, and it still hasn’t materialised:(

Awesome. Very intuitive and easy to use. A must for everyone!

Needs an iPhone version, badly. Given that Evernote is on both iPhone and iPad platforms why can't we have an iPhone version? In the product support pages people have been asking for it. Evernote people responded with a "thanks for your suggestions" over THREE years ago, now. The larger iPhone models, particularly the Plus, are pretty much commonplace now. And their screens are perfect for note taking, whether handwritten or typed. So please, Evernote, give us what we need. If Notability can do it, surely you guys can too! Thanks.

No Longer Supported. Used to be a great app, deep Evernote integration, and the nicest ink experience I’ve had to date. But their last update, which was six weeks ago, broke the app significantly (see their support forum for more details) and they not only haven’t fixed it, they aren’t even responding to the forums or on Twitter. As far as I can tell, the app is dead and no longer being supported by Evernote.

Great but now crashing. The app had been great until the mot recent update. Now it keeps crashing when I try to open notebooks that have a lot in them.

Too much with poor useability. I have used pen ultimate for many years. And the steadily increasing useless feature list has Ben making I'd hard and slower to use. The last straw was the complete change to the interface. I have managed to find most thinks now but is much more time consuming to use added to this is a new lock screen that slams over the interface ever time you swap apps and take many taps to get back to what you were working on be fore you referenced the Internet or an email.. I use to use is for note taking and the new zoom bar is an improvement but is is the only feature added in the last year of any value. I will now be looking for another app to replace Penultimate . I purchased this app back before Evernote got there hands on it. Evernote has not interest for me. The other reason I am ditching this is it looses data all the time now this has been slowly increasing as Evernote made improvements to it. . The information is there up until I come back in to wireless range and Evernote synchronises then it's gone. Very poor show.

Glitch with ios13. Have used Penultimate successfully for sometime until the recent iso13 upgrade. Now when I use my Apple Pencil to write a note the pages move up and down and I cant write notes at all. Just discovered the only way to get email support is to upgrade which seems a bit cheeky. Until resolved I can’t use the app anymore. Was great up until this point!

Gets better. This is a fantastic application to use with the iPad Pro 12" combined with an apple pen. The perfect companion to Evernote also.

Really good app. This has been so helpful to me for a few months now. I use a JotScript stylus on an old iPad Mini, and it's so nice to be able to draw things out and file them, share them, and edit them easily. It took me a while to get used to getting the angle right for clean lines, but the more I use it with my stylus, the better. Definitely recommend he app.. Even syncs with Evernote.

Great update. Incorporating the new technology that can tell the difference between your wrist touching the tablet and a stylus pen makes this an excellent app! The drawn lines have a smoother look than previous versions now. Works well with my pogo stylus pen. A rather expensive replacement to the pencil and paper, but at least I get to keep my world digitized and organized and not cluttered with excessive note books. Can email the PDF to myself afterwards which is a bonus. Would be good to see a keyboard, and an enhancement to the UI which shows you how to flip pages. Still, it's easily a five star app!

Fantastic Update. Such a nice refinement to what was already a beautiful and simplistic approach to handwritten notes and sketches. If you think this app is missing a keyboard, then you’ve misunderstood what it’s for. The most significant new feature is the simplest. iPad apps have to work when the iPad is rotated. The first version did this, but the page would remain upright. If you rotate a notebook, the page turns as well. That’s an important feature of paper—you can work on something from different angles. Penultimate now does this, so while the interface controls remain upright on rotation as all iPad apps should do, the page rotates. This makes the app so much more intuitive and useful.

Poorly implemented revamp. The previous version of Penultimate was ok and it could certainly have used the update to file management and adding new pages, but I had thought the automatic tracking when zooming in was quite good. Sadly, they've decided to try to copy GoodNotes in the way they handle writing now. This would be fine, as GoodNotes does it well. But instead of having it automatically track, they have a play and pause button they you need to manually tap - so you end up taking the pen away fro. Writing after only a few words if you want to correct something or change a word, to pause the tracking. There also seems to be a bug in the way the text writing box handles the end of a line as it kept skipping up for me. Sorry Penultimate, but you mucked up this update.

Perfectionist tried them all. Penultimate is ultimate!. I'm a perfectionist. I like to only have best if the best, by comparing all the apps in the category. And let me tell you... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING compares to penultimate. Specifically when it comes to wrist detection algorithm. For example i'm left handed, and while I write with a stylus, my wrist is constantly dragging on the glass... And penultimate is constantly working to erase those marks. And no other writing app does good of a job as penultimate. Seriously. I've tested them all TO DEATH. I now use this app as my paper replacement. Only thing I want to see is: 1) ability to minimize top toolbar because left-handers end up accidentally pressing the "My Notebooks" button when they start writing 2) ability to zoom in for writing mode. Many note taking apps have this where it zooms writing mode so user can write non-stop, and more accurately

Needs some refinement. I find that once you create a new folder, it just adds it to the rest of the foldersyou have. You then need to look through all your folders to find the newly added folder. When I try the search to look for this newly created folder that it does not find it, and must search for the search string in the body of your notes. It would also be nice if you can default the new notes to use a default page style like ruled lines, instead of having to change each time.

Terrible Update!!. The new 2 finger scroll down page function is terrible as it always seems to draw lines on the page, not scroll down when it's supposed to. Please, please, please bring back the add new page button. This was much easier to use and worked. Also, the ability to view the entire notebook by pages is sorely missed. This enabled users to easily find and go back to a specific page. The pen recognition also seems a little worse (less accurate). I did use this everyday for work and paid a lot of money for the pen. I have reverted back to pen and paper for now. Please fix soon as I will have to find a new software/hardware solution. This is unusable in a work environment!

THE BEST FREE NOTES APP. Wth thank you so much for this!! Trust me this is so good for a free app. This has been helping me so much,Thank you guys !! Keep it up!!

Great for Books. Our school is thinking of replacing computers with iPads, and this is the perfect substitution for textbooks, that usually cost a total of 30-40 AUD in all, inclusive of stationary and other miscellaneous items. There are some things that could do better though. There should be a choice of how large the size of the page is, so if you go over, you don't have to rub out and write smaller. Another thing is to have a rubber size, not just the standard, so you can rub out bigger things. Well done to chocolate box. I know... This app is only worth it if you actually have writing material do write down, like a school kid like me does. Don't just buy it because its the new thing, and is rated 4/5 avg.

Productivity oriented app. Unlike other apps such as Paper by FiftyThree, which are midway between an artistic painting app and a productivity app, Penultimate is really focused on productivity and note-taking, while still letting you freely draw and sketch directly with your touch pen. This is a huge advantage if you are a person who thinks in a "visual" way, you really can improve the quality of your notes because sometimes a chart or a symbol can be more effective than 1000 words. It syncs flawlessly with Evernote, which makes it even more useful.

Simply the best. I’ve been using Penultimate now for over one month. I am an Evernote premium subscriber. These two products couple together are clearly the best notetaking filing system that you can get. It is easy to understand, and quickly to learn, all the details of Penultimate. To make it even better it would be great to incorporate penultimate within Evernote, that is embedding the product within Evernote so you never have to move out of the Evernote app. The only improvement I would like to see is “handwriting to text” option. Having said that, this product is the ULTIMATE well done to the developers.

Great App for Handwritten Notes. Have used a few different handwriting apps like them all as there seems to be a connection for me between handwriting and thinking rather than typing and thinking. For some they may scoff but for me it is real. So handwriting on my iPad Pro has been a wonderful addition. As for Penultimate it is another handwriting app but has a few features that make it better for me than the others. Firstly is auto syncs with Evernote, so finding stuff later is easier and connecting other documents is better than anything else I have used. Secondly is the advanced writing feature that allows zoom and flow during the writing experience. What would be a handy addition is a handwriting to text conversion processes. It maybe there but have not discovered it yet. It is simple to use, it is free and I can find documents after I have filed them what is there not to like if you just want handwritten notes.

Talk about amateur hour!. I'm writing this here because your stupid app doesn't even let me report a bug without premium paid subscription. The page backgrounds don't appear in my selection page. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. This fixed the problem for about an hour. Then when I used the app later in the day, the backgrounds disappeared again. Every option I select results in a blank page background. Please fix this. I'm using an iPad mini 4 with the latest version of iOS.

Awkward placement of the page navigator. Would give 5 stars if not for the awkward placement of the page navigator that I continuously press on accidentally and thus breaking the flow of the notes being taken. It would be a lot better to have the navigator at either the top or sides of the screen. Thank you

Becoming a vital app for constant use.. I use Penultimate constantly at the moment. I am doing a teaching practicum, and use it ti take notes of observations, reflections and preparations. I can sketch, I can draw, I can even add photos or other clippings, just as if I had been doing it on a paper notebook. But better than all this, I can access each notebook I have on any of my devices using EVERNOTE! I use a JOT stylus which is more precise than my finger. The close-in view helps make my writing a bit neater (no small task) and there are a few other tools and techniques to explore.

Epic App! Can get even better!. Epic app 10/10 for everything on it! One thing that can make it even better is if it has handwriting recognition so that it can convert handwriting to text! I am currently using Penultimate for school and that would help a lot. If it had a feature to submit it to the CANVAS STUDENT app that would be great!

Great notebook app. Have been using the app for note-taking while at Uni for a while now. definitely feels like it’s getting to be just like using good old pen and paper, especially after the latest update and being used in conjunction with the Jot Script stylus! My only concern is that the sensitivity of the stylus sometimes goes astray (most notable when the zoom bar tracks your writing speed). If the responsiveness issues could be fixed, and for it to automatically move down to the next line when you reach the end of the current, this app would definitely have me 110% sold on going completely digital

It what I want. All I want to do is import a photo and be able to draw on it. This clearly does not work in penultimate. Beyond that, there are far more full featured drawing apps out there.

Not right at all. I have tried and tried to use this app, buying pens, stylus or whate evr you call them, and nothing seems to work, the app sometimes recognises the stylus and sometimes not, the writing when it does work lags behind what has been written by about 2 or 3 seconds then all of a sudden it will stop and you have to select the size of the line you wish to use before it will start again. In my opinion this app is definetly not what it claims to be, that is the same as writing on paper. The stylus will work if you write at a speed of about 1 letter per second So folks that is just my review for what it is worth. This app does not deliver at all. So just do not buy or waste your time with this app as it does not work. The stylus doesn't work correctly , it writes above or below the line sometimes by more that one line, then nothing for two lines then starts again. It is by far the worst app out for handwriting. Just do not touch this app.

Giving up. Doesn’t always sync with Evernote. Crash on brand new iPad Pro. Need to kill it and restart. Here’s hoping I can configure something better to sync with Evernote.

Very natural but a little limited. This is one of the apps that I keep on my Home bar so that a quick note or sketch is always a tap away. When used with a stylus it produces very natural lines that are speed-sensitive. Often it's fun to just doodle. It's biggest deficiency is the lack of any ability to zoom into the page which I find very limiting. Because a finger or even a stylus makes fine precision impossible a zoom function is necessary for any detailed sketches. Wacom's new Bamboo Paper app (free until the end of June '11) shows how well zoom can work for this purpose. I hope Penultimate adds zoom soon otherwise it'll remain the 'penultimate' note/sketch app with Bamboo Paper being the 'ultimate'.

Give the old Penultimate back!. I hate the major update. Hate it. Penultimate is now incredibly difficult to understand and use. I can't scroll between pages, I need to select menu, then the page which is frustrating. Why have the makers made this app more difficult? I just want a place to scribble my thoughts randomly. I'll leave this app installed because maybe the producers will magically gain more brain cells and fix this. I thought, mistakenly it seems, that updates made apps better. You people have shown me just how wrong my thinking has been. I am incredibly disappointed and ashamed. Please listen to the reviewers and fix this app. As soon as possible because this is worse than badly made apps. Please just give the old, reliable Penultimate back. Thank you.

Pretty good. It will be even better if you could select which paper you would like to change the orientation of (instead of either all horizontal or vertical). Similarly, if you could have different combinations of paper (ex: one blank, one line). Sometimes when I select my writing, and try to move them, some dots are left behind even though they are within the selected areas.

Almost all you need.. Honestly one of the best note taking apps I've found for my iPad. Although it desperately needs an undo gesture such as a double finger tap. And being able to set a notebook colour would be incredibly helpful as well.

Too sensitive to hand touch. Great functionality for hand written notes and sketching diagrams, but I found it way too sensitive to my hand resting on the screen and ended up with lots of random marks on the page. No facility to add typed text that I could find.

Great app. Great app but would be better if the lines were darker when you print!

Excellent with iPad Pro 12.9. Works perfectly and saves to PDF if required

Please fix the zoom. Great app and love Evernote but the zoom is very annoying

Nice writing app. Love how well this works with the Apple Pencil. Very handy for writing down ideas or having to make large notes from presentations.

Would not recommend. I used an Adonit Jot Pro with this app. Many strokes did not register and the palm rejection is very poor.

Please add more colour for pen. Please fix when switch app, back again, back to wrong page. Also your new updates, CANNOT reject palm. I tried on my 64GB iPad Pro 2nd gen and 512GB iPad Pro 2nd Gen. Real problem. Need to switch to another writing app

Great app overall. I love this app, it feels great to write, it syncs seamlessly and no longer crashes in landscape mode. The only thing I’d like to see is the ability rotate the paper to be landscape, or allow a zoom. Currently the paper rotates but remains small in the centre of the screen rather than going full screen landscape Apart from that it’s near perfect

Minor improvement. I love this app! SO easy to use. Only thing I’d change is how you move from one page to another... needs to be made easier... right now you need to go to the page listing to go to the next page.

Not working. Not working

No Handwriting Recognition. Great app use it everyday. Handwriting recognition would be a valuable addition to its functions.

Penultimate. Have now gone completely paperless thanks to this app in conjunction with Evernote Business. All I need to carry on-site now is my ipad and apple pencil.

You Just Don't Get It. I hoped with this update your team would have listened to how much users hated what you've done to a once great app. Sadly this is not the case and this app continues to go from bad to worse ( if that was at all possible) for now I leave the app installed on the faint hope that you come to your senses and return the functionality and ease of use that made it the best Like the other reviews this was a great app and it is has been totally ruined. Get back to basics rather than making it look like an interior decorator from the 60's has just put lipstick on a pig. If you match features and simplicity of Notability (the app) with the sync-ability that Penulitimate has then you would turn the "one star" ratings to five. Hurry before its too late.

Perfect. Started using this app at work this week for taking notes and so far, having tried a few other similar apps, it is the best. There could be a few improvements, such as it could do with another, even finer, ink option and it would be great if you could add in pages in a notebook where you wish and if you could reorder the pages as needed, but I suppose such things could be taken care of in later updates as 'nice to haves'.

10 Years of Notes Gone and No Support. Less than a week between updates on notes and they’re all completely gone with no warning and no apparent option to restore. There is no option within the app to log a support ticket, and the forums indicate you have to be a premium subscriber to get any kind of support from them. DO NOT USE.

Great for daily morning scribble/journalling. I use this app daily for my morning scribble. I am using a pretty generic stylus on my Ipad mini. Took awhile to get used to the feel of it, but it works great for me. Love that I can keep all my notes in the same place (evernote).

No go. Could not get to connect to Apple Pencil at all. All other apps no problem. Looking for something else

Great for everyday notes. I have a number of note taking apps. I find myself using this one for my everyday notes

Penultimate needs an update. So many things I like about this app. But some major limitations that should be simple. Like folders and moving things from one folder to another.

I love it!. I like how you don’t have to pay for everything like zinnia

Please fix bugs with IOS 11. Great app, unfortunately it’s not working properly with IOS 11 and the apple pen. I’m finding it not responding multiple times a minute while writing. Also it zooms in after switching in and out of multitasking causing a strange writing calibration error. Pleases fix soon!

Very fond of this app. Lots to like. Thumbs up I would recommend

Good, but has some really annoying glitches.. I use this app to to fill in consult forms for my tattoo clients. For as long as I’ve had it, sometimes when I’m trying to delete a note I don’t need, it deletes a completely different note for no reason. I’ve noticed that the delete confirmation even shows the title of the wrong note sometimes, and then said form is lost forever. If the glitch can’t be fixed, the option to ‘undo’ a deletion would be really handy. Also ever since iOS 11, if I go to another app (camera, safari) and come back, or accidentally tilt it in such a way that it goes to landscape mode, the page is suddenly zoomed in like 20 percent and I have to exit out of the app completely to fix it, which is a really irritating setback when you are trying to take notes for a client. Disappointed that the most recent update didn’t fix this issue.

Great!. Love this app! Use it for all my note taking. The auto scroll with the zoom is especially nice but will speed up on its own sometimes, not sure if that is intentional, but it's my only complaint.

Adonit Pixel??. Seems like it would be fairly good if only they would add support for the Adonit Pixel.

Issues. Would be amazing but syncing couldn’t be more glitchy. Renaming certain notebooks can DELETE OTHER ONES.

Really good but....... Two major issues need to be fixed. One of them is sensitivity when writing with apple pen and my palm or finger hits it and writes while I’m still writing with pen in my hand. U need to have a feature that cancels out any other writing when using a pen like how procreate works. The second major issue is the tracing feature that allows you to copy and paste or drag. Why does it not copy or move or cut everything? Why is some of the ink detaching from the words and Leaving ink dots and marks behind which has separated from the sentence or words that are being moves. This seems like something that should have been addressed a long time ago and doesn’t make sense why it does this. It’s like it is not able to capture everything that was circled.

Functional but not perfect. For note taking, this does not leave much to be desired. It syncs seamlessly to Evernote. I’ve been an Evernote devotee for ten years or so and use it for everything. For sketching, Penultimate does leave something to be desired. Shapes and forms would be nice. The fine dexterity isn’t there in drawing with an Apple Pencil, so having scalable circles, arcs, diamonds and the like would help.

Excellent Product. Essential to get rid of scratch papers and have your business and personal notes organized without losing important ones.

Excellent. Great app but needs to be better adapted to work with IPad pencil!

Handwriting is laggy; cut and paste doesn't actually work. For the longest time, I had wanted to get an iPad so I could start using this app. I've used Evernote since 2010. Sad reality: the standard Notes app on iPad Pro with Apple Pencil has almost zero lag - so close to zero, it really is like writing with pen on paper. Penultimate is unfortunately far behind - it's laggy and doesn't feel as natural. Then there's the cut and paste in Penultimate. This could be really good, but every time I use it, it leaves these little dots and lines behind - that only go away by you going back and touching up your work. This bug was first reported on the Evernote forums over two years ago, and has received a consistent stream of increasingly frustrated user feedback begging for the bug to be resolved. And it still isn't? Feels like a pretty fundamental issue. It's an unfinished app, and with great disappointment, I'm going back to the Notes app.

Needs a lot of improvements.. I'm a fan of Evernote and I use it everyday. But Penultimate has a lot of room for improvement. Accessing notebooks are too complicated, delays in syncing, glitches with the lasso tool, not very efficient. GoodNotes is much better and hopefully Evernote follows in that direction with Penultimate.

Great... except bugs. Just fix the bugs and I’d give this 4 or even 5 stars as it is quick and convenient for making notes with a stylus. The bug I continue to encounter is when I scroll with two fingers, very often the app will crash. Not only should it never crash, but the frequency (yet still unpredictable) makes it basically unusable.

Brilliant!. This is the first app I've found that truly is a seamless alternative to paper and pen. I am either using it everyday for brainstorming or design or wishing I was. All I want now is a feature to add shapes and text.

Doesn't work with Apple Pencil?. Half of what I write with Apple Pencil disappears right after l write it

I use this all the time!!. I have been using this app for a ew years now, it is so easy to use, and much better than all the physical notebooks I was using for all my clients. The free version works really well, I haven’t tried the paid one though.

I'd return it if I could.. This app is a great idea, and if it weren't for it's short comings in "inking" ability, I would love it. It is nearly impossible to write clean notes. The inking is entirely unnatural. I've tried several methods to no avail; my hand leaves ink marks on the page where I don't want them. I've tried using a stylus too with no improvements to the result. Also, the inking is slow enough that you must write unnaturally slowly if you want any precision to your writing. Printing ends up looking like that of a ten year old kid. Cursive is not much better. I hope a future update might fix these issues, like i said, a great idea. As it is today however, I would not recommend buying this app. Good for sketches, absolutely useless for text.

Excellent with one wish. I wish linking folders in Evernote worked better

Needs folders or stacks. Great app but has no way of organizing the notebooks in the iPad app, I use this for handwriting in differing client meetings etc, and the amount of notebooks all the same colour and unable to stack them is a big problem... one that is making me consider a different app

Good but need to be able to write on power points and PDFs. If you could add these feature and allow us to control pen size more easily, this app would be better. Also ability to scale writing.

Really Good with Some Glitches. - The cut-and-paste tools leaves some traces within the area selected (some points and dashes). - I am not sure how others feel, but we would like a smaller pen tip to be available (not sure if there is such thing in the upgraded versions). - I think we should be able to crop imported images within the app.

Love it, but where did all paper templates went. I love thus app. I wonder where the paper templates went. I use to work with some, but they are gone. Bring them back and it is a 4 stars + app.

Dint get this app, get notability. I am a law student and wanted to get a good app for note taking with a stylus, however I found this app utterly useless for any "real" note taking. notability is exponentially more usable plus notability has built in voice recorder so you can take notes and record a class at the same time. It's phenomenal. One thing I will give this app is its User interface is so simple, you'd think it was amen apple designed app. I mean, it's drop dead simple. But it's simplicity and lack of features (recorder, wrist protection, zoom mode, etc) makes it useless to take 10 pages of notes with. Sure you can doodle with Penultimate but if you want to do some serious note taking (like a 3 hour law course in property law) then go with Notability.

Need ability to generate PDF format. Need ability to generate PDF format

Great app but doesn’t work on iOS 13. This app was great until I updated to iOS 1. It’s impossible to use it with apple pencil now.

Could be so much better.... I have been waiting for years for this app to be better integrated with Evernote. While this app is decent with handwriting, but its competitors are advancing further with better OCR and advanced functions (like text conversion). With that said, this is still my go-to handwriting note-taking app.

Great productivity app. Really nice take handwriting notes. It's even more amazing since it works seamlessly with Evernote across devices. A must have companion to Evernote

My favourite note taking app. Absolutely love it. Been using penultimate for the past three years! I admit that there are a few things that annoy me like a lack of shapes, glitchy upload etc. due to which I have tried several other apps of this ilk but I keep switching back to penultimate — it seems like the closest thing to what I want out of a note taking app.

Great App but..... Since I am in university I enjoy using this app as a substitute for a notebook. Only thing lacking is color options most of the color options consist of different grey tones. Otherwise amazing app!

App is decent. The app works very well. The only concern I have is the lack of ability to select multiple files to delete or transfer. This action becomes very tedious when trying to ‘clean up’ the app

Needs slight improvement for music. I love the concept of having music manuscript paper available, and the distance between the staff notes is good for comfort, but the Penultimate designers chose to make a very narrow page for such a wide staff line spacing. It would be nice to be able to comfortably fit four bar musical phrases on one staff when using the music manuscript paper to write down musical ideas. Make the page wider so you could use it in a real situation, (i.e. to sketch out a quick lead sheet before a gig) instead of having it feel like one of those dictation books people use in piano lessons. Aside from that, it is really neat and exactly what I was searching for: a bare-bones musical sketchpad that I could use with the Apple Pencil.

Cette app me suit partout. J’utilise cette app dans toutes mes réunions et pour brainstormer, je recommande fortement.

It was the best, but now crush every now and then!. Please update it and fix it!

Too many glitches in iOS 11. I use this app all the time for note taking, but since iOS 11 came in there are so many bugs. It freezes, apple pencil stops registrating, sometime it acts very strange and zoom is out of whack. Fix it soon please!!

Almost perfect. App keeps freezing and sometimes crashes when using the selection tool on a few handwritten lines. A few suggestions to Devs: - add Creation Date to notes (separate from name) - add Copy/Cut/Transform to Selection tool - add Eraser size adjust - add more colours - fix: Selection tool leaves dots when selected content is moved

Amazing. Best app I’ve ever used I love it, I don’t know why it’s free but I thank god it is. This app saved my grades and I’m very thankful. Only one downside/problem: there is no line tool

Glitchy and not supported. Has lot’s of potential, but doesn’t seem to have any development roadmap.

Opening/closing notes messes up zoom. Consistently in this version opening or closing a note results in a zoomed-in view of the note. Have to close and open again to fix. Super annoying - otherwise a great app!

Barely useable. Lacks so many competitive features. (ie: shapes, color selections, typing - yes, no type written text!, etc.) that it’s almost useless. Try adding a picture - you can do it, but always leaves behind a dot from where you tap on the surface.

Avoid. Horrible UX when its linked to Evernote, even worse tech support. There are other apps don’t waste your time, honestly.

A great addition to Evernote. I use this app extensively to take notes during the day and at meetings as it allows sketching and it links to my Evernote. A very useful application.

Apple pencils strokes go missing. I used to love this app. Now I can’t use it to take notes. As I print with my iPencil it deletes strokes. So disappointing. It was my go to. Now I have to use other apps on my iPad Pro. I hope they fix this soon.

Enjoy the app. I enjoy taking notes by hand in my meeting. This allow me to do this without having to drag more than one notebook around.

Terrible. When you select a block of writing and move it, why does it leave crumbs behind? Also, the UI is mostly incomprehensible. Waste of time.

Good APP, but all paper format is blank. This a good APP as you did on Evernote. And I have purchased Standard account as well. But by some reason other than the 4 basic format, all other paper formats are blank even they can be selected to add new.

Good for writing but needs additional features. Good for keeping quick notes or writing things, but needs to upgrade, allowing the ability to make uniform shapes and boxes used in forms and then locking them in place. Needs to upgrade to fully accommodate the Apple Pencil. An annoying feature is where the color pallet is located. On my iPad it is located where the split screen icon is so opening the color pallet takes several attempts to find the sweet spot to open the colors.

I keep trying it in hopes it will improve.. The app itself is not bad. There is just no ability to include pictures, PDFs or files. In most of my meetings I snap photos and mark them up. Other Evernote options for this are not so good. I have always loved Evernote but have not used it consistently because the hand writing functions and any connected options or not as robust as I would like. Please make some changes!

Simple and very useful app. Penultimate, used in conjunction with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil is a simple way to paperless with all of your note taking. I’ve been using this daily for all of my work and personal notes for the past few years and I love it! It is easy to organize your notes and they all get saved in Evernote for further organization and archiving.

Absolutely the best for hand written notes. I prefer to hand write my notes and this is the best app I have found for doing this after trying many others. I especially like the feature that moves along the page as you write so you can keep you hand in place. It would be nice to have more color options for the ink and a tapping feature for undo / redo like in procreate.

Perfect Solution with iPad Pro & Evernote. Perfect solution if you like the speed and pleasure of handwritten notes but also want the benefit of being able to later search for notes by key world. Works great with iPad Pro 9.7 and Apple Pencil. It's simple and easy to use and syncs flawlessly to Evernote. I no longer need to carry multiple journals.

Would be nice but buggy. Would be great if it didn’t have a couple ~extremely~ annoying bugs. Whenever i multitask to another app and come back, the page is weirdly.. cropped to one side and not showing the whole page, and even worse, when I start writing with my Apple Pencil THE LINE IS OFFSET FROM WHERE IM WRITING WITH THE PENCIL. Absultely horrendous. Even better, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. Such a simple and dumb bug but it ruins the experience completely, do the developers just not give a ____?

Using it for 3 yrs now. Very happy. I have been using penultimate for 3 yrs now on my iPad Pro. No paper notebooks for last three years. I export my monthly notebooks as pdf to books for safe keeping. OCR search can be better but my paper notebooks don’t have that either. Very happy with it. Evernote, Please continue to invest in this product.

Good until you get a new device. Every time I have changed IPads I have major syncing issues to the point I lose a significant number of notes each time (2 changes). Paying for premium doesn’t seem to help and my most recent change now won’t keep synced and allow me to view notes offline. Probably better for school type notes than serious professional use. Tech support has been no help, and Iquote, “it should be working”. Thanks

Needs better organisation functions. 1. Would like to be able to move notes between notebooks within Penultimate - I can do it, but I have to use Evernote which is time consuming. 2. Would like to be able to open a notebook, see my notes and then swipe left to see open and view my notes in the next notebook. right now you have to close out of each notebook then open the next one to find the relevant note I’m looking for.

Love this app, just a few flaws. It’s perfect, except sometimes it doesn’t recognize when I am long pressing to input an image into my notes; a separate button for adding images could make it easier. The search notes function also does not work at all.. it seems to give me absolutely random results each time I use it

Love this buggy app. This app has the bones of a really good app but it has so many bugs. I use it every day in business and for my journaling, and I have found ways to work around the problems, but there are a lot. The app has potential and I hope they add some features like changing paper from page to page, or embedding urls into the docs, etc. The documentation also needs a lot of help - a number of features and capabilities are never explained.

No editing ability in Evernote. Penultimate is owned by Evernote so you would expect them to work well together. But once you sync your Penultimate note with Evernote you can’t edit the note in Evernote. You can’t even move it to a new notebook/folder unless you first duplicate the note and delete the original. It’s very cumbersome and makes this almost worthless as a companion to Evernote. Penultimate as a stand alone note taking app is ok, but it’s difficult to organize all your notes as there are no folder options. It just sorts everything alphabetically.

Essencial application. I have been using this app w/ Ipad pro and apple pen to take notes and it is amazin I have only one request I would love to be able to move individual notes from one book to another . Also different colors for books. It is boring to have books all the same:/ otherwise it is an amazing app .. thanks for your hard work ❤🎉.

Could be the best. The flow of "ink'' is great. But that's it. It could be so much more; it could be the finest handwriting app for an iPad, but it isn't even close. There is no support for the Apple Pencil. Penultimate only offers stylus support for the Jot. There is no way to add or create templates of your own. You cannot natively search written text. I could go on and on. Compare Penultimate to Goodnow 5 (or 4) or Notability for example and you'll see it pales in comparison. Penultimate is an abandoned app. There has been no attempt to make it a serious competitor in the field of handwriting apps. What a pity.

Great, but could be better with improvements. Penultimate is great. It has, for most purposes, pulled me away from paper notebooks. There is one thing that annoys me, though. Whenever I select something and slide it around on the page, bits of ink are left in the old position. Sometimes they create a messy look that can't be cleaned up because the bits are still under the text or drawing if it was only slightly moved to reposition it. It would be nice is if the app opened on the same page it was closed on, and more ink colors would help. The way that it syncs with Evernote and updates the Evernote backup when changes are made in the app is wonderful. Other than that, I am happy very happy with Penultimate. With the dropped bits of ink, opening where closed, and more ink colors, it would be a five-star app. Thank you.

Great with Evernote. I have been using Penultimate for over 3 years and love it. As a career/executive coach, I have always taken notes during sessions with clients. Before using this, I had folders of notes and it was an effort to keep them organized. With Penultimate, it’s easy to keep them organized in Evernote and the notes are searchable. It works well for me.

Good but need updating. This is a good software. It was around long before many other writing software came about. It fast and easy to use if you just want to take notes. But since the last update there has been a glitch when copying or moving text, some artifacts would remain. its sad that Evernote has chosen to not update this software.

Amazing Features. Penultimate has come a really long way and is good app overall. Great features, and is fairly simple and straightforward. It doesn't quite reach up to Evernote's main app in term's of design and functionality though. It would be great to see a significant upgrade soon with better writing tools and more options for different types of writing tools and sizes of each one.

Outstanding with Apple Pencil. Just got an Apple Pencil for my 9.7" iPad Pro. Needed an app with which to take notes. Tried drawing apps, like Paper. They aren't the best for taking notes. Penultimate works perfectly and integrates seamlessly with Evernote. I have just the writing instruments I need, not too many, not too few.

Pretty Effective but not that fancy. I downloaded the app because it was free to see if it had quality. It definitely does. You can create and title your own note taking sections. However, the writing colors are not that fancy. They are your standard colors. However, it gets the job done. I can see a lot happening with the app if they raise the creativity. But overall, it’s good.

Does not work without WiFi. The app works well as far as the note taking part, however, one major flaw is that the app will crash at startup if your device is not connected to the internet, rendering the app useless at situations where you do not have access to wifi/hotspot (e.g. during a flight, unless pay for wifi). Also, the startup of the app takes a long time, probably because it is reaching out to the cloud to sync. That needs to be improved.

Get Another App. I have tried Penultimate about 6 times. The integration with Evernote is its only redeeming feature, and that takes finagling to make work with multiple notebooks. The UI is difficult to work with when actually taking notes. The buttons to scroll-to-page are right under your hand as your writing, which means you tap them all the time. Often you write the same stroke 3-4 times before the app recognizes it. It seems like the app was built by developers who never actually use real notebooks.

Bug with app switching is infuriating. Edit: Version 6.2.3 fixed my issue! On my iPad Pro 10.5, whenever I switch back to the app from another, the view is zoomed in to about 300%, with no way to zoom out. The only way to restore the view, and make it usable again, is to back out of editing all the way to the notebook view, and then drill back in. I do that dozens of times per day. Please fix it!

Great tool. This is a great app. but would like a few more options. 1) it would be wonderful if you could move pages around to different folders without have to save as PDF, download, etc. 2) more formatting options would be great too. But otherwise it is an awesome addition to my IPad.

Excellent. I use this in conjunction with Evernote. With this app I can use my handwritten notes and bring them into evernote and journal in my own writing giving it a little bit of an old feel for me. I look forward to seeing what can be done in the future with this. I even use it for drawing grid celtic knots.

Major Concern. Let me start off by saying that when this app was working, I loved it . Its sleek, simple, convenient and helps bring artistic flow out of anyone who seeks it. Now my current issue , I trusted this application to create all of my organizational charts for my wedding coming up. Such as my seating chart , my invitation guide and much more. All of a sudden this app crashes everytime at startup and i can not open any of my existing files, this is major concern because i invested time in this app and it does not work. I have unninstalled and reinstalled and have power cycled my device done all of the trouble shooting possible and no luck.

Amazing for university students. I use this app to take notes for my university classes with my apple pen on my iPad. The fact that you can create different notebooks is super convenient because I use each notebook for a different class. I just wish you could change the colors of the notebooks because after you have a lot , it becomes a bit harder to find the one you’re looking for.

Missing Key Features. This act works really well and looks beautiful with the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil. However it is missing a few key features that are available on notability and other note taking apps. For example, I really wish there was a hand writing to text conversion tool. Also I would like to be able to organize my pages within each notebook and whatever order I want. Other than that this is a good app and I like the fact that it automatically syncs to my Evernote account.

Good, but could still improve. I am using it with my Apple Pencil and finding it great, especially across all my Apple devices. I really appreciate the interface with Evernote. There are still some things I would like to see included. First, I would love a blank, month planning calendar as one of the stationary options. I tried to make one, but could not write on it. Second, I would like some other pen nibs, especially an italic nib, which would make cursive handwriting easier, and more legible.

The long search for a note taking app is over. I am just about to start college, and with a new iPad, I have been searching for the best free note taking app. I just love all of the different formats for notebook pages and the ease at which you can write. I am so excited to start journaling, note taking, and scheduling my weeks with this app.

Abandoned Product. This software was created by Evernote, which I’ve used for nearly 10 years. Penultimate has great features, the auto-sync to Evernote and ‘export as PDF to wherever you wish, to name a couple. It feels as if it’s now abandoned, glitches we expected to be addressed still remain after many years, and potential great new features never added. If Evernote paid a little bit of attention to this product they can make it excellent again.

Frequent problems. I have reported a number of bugs that make it challenging to use over the years, but no updates to the app in over 12 months now. I often have problems connecting and using the Jot Script stylus I purchased from Evernote, even after replacing it. And now it seems to hang the pen input completely, although I am not sure why and Support has not been able to resolve the problem. So I am no longer able to use this for taking work notes.

THE digital notebook for the hand-writers. If you prefer to write instead of type, this is the one. I’ve used this app for 3 years, started with a 3rd-party pen which did the job in terms of accuracy then got an Apple Pencil which has made writing addicting. Limitless space, limitless possibilities; there are many kinds of free templates to suite your needs including graphing, accounting, scheduling, and story-boarding. I personally don’t use the share tool but it’s really cool that it’s available. The selection tool is great but it can leave behind some of the pen strokes. You won’t be disappointed. Please add Dark Mode & eraser size selection.

Good but can be us much better. Good app, writes nicely but I like to journal on there and even with the passcode on during app change on iPad you can clearly see all the info on the last page you wrote on sooo the passcode doesn’t really keep my journals a secret. If you’re a developer or part of Evernote please bring this topic up as well as the ability to: -later the page type after things have been written -the ability to make pigs undo jpeg so we can use it across more platforms -the ability to move pages from one notebook to another -the ability to take parts of the page like cutting does but the able to shrink or more them bigger -and possibly alter the thickness of things already written. I hink those things could really make the app a lot more agile and functional. Thank you though, like the app👍🏻

Simple & Easy-To-Use. This app is simple & easy to use. I like how they let us make different notebooks and many sections within those notebooks and there’s no limit as to how many we can make. My only wish is for the pen colors to have more options as well as the eraser option to have more sizes, but that’s it.

Apple Pencil Bug. Unusable in current state. I have contacted the support team many times and have been told that a fix is in the works the aforementioned bug but there has yet to be one so I have had to switch to a competitor. When drawing with the Apple Pencil and switching to horizontal mode and then back into vertical mode, the Apple Pencil is not drawing in the correct location. The writing ends up being about an inch to the left of where the actual pencil is positioned. Because of this, I can no longer use it to take handwritten notes like I once was able to. I feel like they have had ample time to fix the issue since the release of iOS 11.

Overall not bad but some annoying features. It’s good overall but the blue pen color should be lighter because it’s hard to tell the difference between that and black. You should also be able to pinch zoom instead of that scroll and write feature popping up. Lastly, if you could drag and reorganize your folders and notes, this app would be much better.

Love this app but..... This is by far the best app that I have found for "writing". I use an iPad Pro with Apply stylus. The writing is smooth and love the choice of colors and highlighting. The ONLY thing that prohibits a 5 star rating is the inability to copy and paste into the app. I use for Bible study and would like to be able to paste the verses I am studying into the app while writing my notes. That feature would make it perfect... well, I would like more colors for pens and highlighters but who doesn't.

Ridiculous waste of time. I read all the reviews and was skeptical that I would be able to use it like most of the apps. I have never used a pencil before. When I opened the app, the pencil would not work. I was faced with all kinds of setup maneuvers and after about 15 minutes, I deleted it from my iPad Pro. The salesman told me I was going to love the Apple Pencil, but I have not found it to be very helpful. I could not find any kind of instructions to make it work. some people seem to have got it to work, but there are so many complaints about missing features that (like R. Lee Irmey would say) this App is CRAP! Can’t even give it a Zero Stars. One star is too much.

Very Poor Recent Update. I've been away from Penultimate for over 2 years now and after re-downloading after getting a new iPad, I'm still disappointed with the app. I really thought they'd reinstate the page turning rather than scrolling, but no. That's really what I miss the most. I deleted the app previously and will do so again. My original review from release of 6.0 in Fall of 2014: Recently updated the app and I'm severely disappointed. 1. Can't turn pages anymore to add a new page to notes. 2. Writing seems delayed and inconsistently responsive to touch screen, resulting in incomplete words or sketches. 3. No New User Guide to help current users navigate the new update. 4. App seems to want to be everything to everyone, meaning quality of app decreases. Considering deleting app if no improvements are made soon. If looking for new note-taking app, do NOT download this app until fixes are made.

Fantastic!. I’ve been a Mac user since 1984. Yep, 128k MAC! This app, in my mind, is what Steve Jobs had in mind. When I write, on penultimate, I don’t think about the machine. I just write, process and learn. The fact that Evernote can search every work that I write is perfect. It’s like a Mead Trapper Keeper on steroids! I’m an adjunct college professor, currently working on my MDiv. I write using a Logi pencil on a 6th gen iPad. Thanks for these great tools!

Needs more depth with Organization. This app is great for taking notes in school but I would like to have some authority over the order which I see my notebooks. Notebooks remain on a single page with no options to star or favorite notebooks that correspond to my current classes and need the quickest access to. I have been adding a makeshift prefix of “a*” to separate my current class notes from those of past classes. Please add a way for the user to change the order in which they see their notebooks.

So disappointing. I have used Evernote for years and love it. I bought their recommended Jot stylus and tried to use Penultimate for note taking. I have found it to be awful, at least when used with their expensive stylus. It is not even close to being reliable enough to use for note-taking. The jot stylus simply does not work for the simple task of handwriting. I've called CS and the only suggestion was to use super-expensive lithium AAA batteries in the stylus. This did not help as well. It is unfortunate that such a slick, well-featured app could be so poorly presented in real life.

Love it but.... I truly love the app for what I use it for, which is journaling. I had been journaling for months just using pages and typing on my iPad, but missed the feel of writing in my journal. The one thing I wish I could do in the app is switch back and forth between typing and writing. Sometimes I have too much to say to hand write it all out!

Good for journaling, poor for record keeping. I enjoy this app and use it almost every day. My issue is that I often delete the notes in penultimate and expect there to be some kind of record that is kept in Evernote - or at least a way it can be retrieved. Otherwise it’s a strong app, simple, focused and built for purpose. I believe it should not evolve to become like one note. It will lose its charm.

Not easy to move notes to computer file. If you want to use it to write notes and then store on your computer for later reference it takes many steps. This was not the case when I started in 2013. When Evernote took over you were never able to e-mail the Notebook only every section in the note book. If you try to open notes from the web you can only view your notes.

I use it for my advanced calculus homework. I love this app. I use it with a normal, fabric tipped stylus without a problem. It's perfect for my math classes when I want to include the problems as a picture and then start solving by writing. I only wish it were easier to make folders within the app. Other than that, it's easy to export and free! A+

Great! But wish it had just a couple of things. Overall a great note taking app. I really like all the different paper options. I just wish it had a couple of different pen/pencil options(or at least an in-app purchase that offered it) and I wish it had a ruler like Apple's Notes app. I'm an engineering major so that ruler comes in handy for my drawings and is really neat to use.

Poor app and poor company. This app was great and had very little flaws when it was released in 2010. The company was sold to Evernote in 2014 and they did a bate a switch on the customers in 2015. The app that people purchased wasn’t even close to the same app after a so called “update” was pushed. Today the app is a substandard version of the 2015 version. It has memory leaks, errors when copy or moves are performed. The people running this company are the reason I won’t spend money on apps any more. If you don’t already own this app, you should not purchase it. You can easily find a better writing app.
