Life Stories Ruin Basic Navigation. Every time I agree to take the survey about the new Life Story feature, it doesn’t pull up - so here I am. It’s cumbersome and complicated. It has ruined the experience of this app. Please remove it as a primary means of seeing information about individuals in the tree. Now all I can see are birth and death dates for a person. I have to dig in the stories for anything else like marriage dates. People who are serious about genealogy do not spend time with this feature because we don’t have stories about our ninth great grandparents. We just need a section with all the facts and notes we have recorded with the other section for sources. I tried to add an obituary the other day and it took an act of congress. The Life Story/Timeline is a catchy, social media-esque way to keep occasional users interested, but it ruins the workflow for serious users. It’s honestly a terrible idea by the developers. I could not dislike it more. Please bring back the old interface when we could see the basic info without the fluff (like on Family Tree).

Loved it before latest design.. I use this all the time. It Was convenient and easy. Now the start page looks like drive through Las Vegas, with the pages for individuals is a walk through Times Square. Both places might be nice for a visit, but having to “live there” every time I open the app has become so tiring I’m using my other mobile apps. Since my tree is on Ancestry, that’s a pain - but not as much a pain as the horrible, busy, ugly new interface. Genealogy is complicated enough without trying to keep up with whatever new, “fun”, family stories and pictures project you want us to get involved with. Really - the app is now like going to Walmart instead of a library. Not everyone has to have all the photos and different colored distractions. Please make a separate app for genealogical scrapbooking. In particular, as an autistic woman, the interface has become so chaotic it’s nearly impossible for me to force myself to use an app I used to open every day. Please, I beg you, go back to the straightforward genealogy program.

New family. I found out that my father wasn’t my biological father. I was the apple of his eye and he was my everything. I took the DNA test to find out my ethnicity and I told my cousin whom was supposed to be my double cousin since her father and my mother where brother and sister and it was supposed to be her mother and my father were sister and brother. Two brothers and sisters married and had children making double cousins. Well when she took the test and it revealed that she wasn’t as related as these three women were on my test, I was stunned and so was she because she got a cousin on her mother side to also take the test and it revealed she was more related to him than me. So we knew something was very wrong I became suspicious that I was not my father’s daughter and those three women was my siblings, we started talking and decipher things out. I was raised in very affluent family and my father didn’t know and died before finding out, my mother also passed away but she knew of the secret. I’m writing a book about this because it’s a lot more to this story.

I have a tree with over 2000 people. If you are interested in the genealogy of your family this app will do it. But the full price of the app is way too high and the claim of newspaper artifacts is quite limited. If your ancestors come from Russia and your Jewish you will not be able to get further back than 1860. Assuming that your family came here in the very early 1900’s. My son in law is from German decent and I could trace his family back to 1675 when they came here as early settlers of Ohio, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Everyone in my family did ancestry DNA and it we found it very interesting. I had thought we were the only family with our last name in the America but with the DNA and matches I found that another family with my last name settled in Chicago around the same time my grandfather came. This I am sure of because I am a match for at least on of that clan. But I cannot figure out how we are related because the answer to that is in the small towns in Russia where the Jews were persecuted by the tzar and forced them to immigrate to the US. Instead of five stars I put four because I think they mislead me with the “all access” when it really isn’t “all access”

Grateful for the Ancestry app. I love the Ancestry app. I joined the app to help track my ancestors during conversations with my mom and other family members and it makes the task easy. Since my family immigrated to the USA, we lost contact with many family members. With DNA testing becoming more popular in the last five years, Ancestry has allowed me to connect to even more family members. My 88 year old mother has a very sharp memory and has enjoyed renewing with the reconnections and meeting their descendants. As I made new connections, my mom has also helped with providing family stories for our tree. Because of all the benefits I have experienced with the Ancestry app, I am a huge fan and sing it praises to everyone! Thank you so much Ancestry for making learning about my ancestors so easy!

Amazing resources at your fingertips. When your family history research becomes so complex that you can no longer remember everything, this continuously improved app gives you complete access to an amazing range of details. In spite of my frustration that Ancestry has taken away some resources that were formerly available without additional fees, their software both on a desktop and mobile devices make the annual cost a great bargain. More than just the basic family relationships and personal data, I appreciate access to primary sources such as census records. I upload hundreds of digital photos and this app makes it easy to access these historic images. And as I travel, I always have access to the most recent discoveries I’ve made about my family. If you have an interest in your personal history, this app can keep your interest vital and enjoyable.

My Fathers greatest wish came true, then he died. My Father’s one and only wish was to one day know someone from his Mothers side of the family. She died when he was five. We spent many years traveling the state of Texas looking for anyone that know anything about his Mother. He sent his DNA to Ancestry and we waited... and waited.. and waited, until one day, there was a match, Mercedes. I saw that her Grandfathers name was Alfredo Alviar Chavez and flipped out!!! I sent her a message through the Ancestry app. and explained who I was and that we have been looking for years and years for anyone related to My fathers Mother’s side of the family. I gave her my email address and hoped she would answer. She quickly responded by sending an email to me and we were immediately connected. She was blown away that we knew so many details about her Grandfather. It did t take us long to get together. They came to visit on Labor Day weekend 2019. We had 3 glorious days to talk and laugh and cry. My Father was the happiest Man in the world. Then on September 19, my Father passed away. His name was Guadalupe Ibarra. He died a happy man. God kept his word and brought to pass the one and only piece of the puzzle left. Thank you Ancestry for making it possible. Without you, he would never have met his beautiful cousins, children of his uncle Alfredo, my Fathers Mother, Francisca’s little brother. What a wonderful world!!! Thank you, Dina Joy Lawrence Proud daughter of Guadalupe Ibarra

Updates. ***FIXED!*** All issues below are fixed within the app! Thank you!!! Can no longer switch between trees while in the app. Can no longer switch between your DNA and other DNA you manage while in the app. The Ancestry DNA app was removed and incorporated into this Ancestry app, but now missing key features. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app to see if there’s a solution - it DOES let you select a tree when you reinstall, however, you’re then stuck with that one tree unless you remove the app again and reinstall because there’s no way to switch within the app anymore. Perhaps room in the app was needed for Storymaker, I don’t know, but when you’re working on multiple things at once and trying to match up families, the app is no longer an option. Hopefully these things can be fixed at some point because it was great before.

Membership Purchase DOES NOT WORK in the App. The App is a scam! 😩😡🤬. You risk losing money! They tempt you with a few days free trial and charge your credit card. When your free trial ends, Ancestry deactivates your account so you can no longer see images of documents even though your card has been changed. To get your money back you have to deal with Apple. I have had an Ancestry account for years, but only activate it occasionally for a few months to see if any new information is available. This time I made the mistake of activating it through the app using Apple Pay. The app worked okay for me. If you are using an iPad, the app is more convenient than the site on Safari; however, there are a few things that can only be done on the website (e.g. inviting others to your tree if your tree is private). Occasionally the app locks up and loses connection when you try to add files to your gallery. But the main problem is activating your account through the app, especially along with the free trial offer. If you want an active membership, activate it through the website even though you will not get the free trial. Otherwise, you risk a lot of headaches trying to get a refund when Ancestry doesn’t honor your purchase at the end of the free trial.

Disappointed. Ancestry’s ethnicity estimates are great, but, as a service they need to step it up and stop expecting people to pay for every little bit of information they can provide. The chromosome painter and parental matches were helpful, maybe a little inaccurate at times at times, but, it had potential to improve. Now, it is behind a pay wall and you can no longer view it unless you pay the reoccurring fee of 30 something dollars. I paid a lot of money for this service and essentially am getting only 2 things out of it: matches, and an estimate. That is literally it. Is 100 dollars a reasonable price for two simple things? No. It’s just not justifiable what they’re doing and they will probably lose customers if they keep making them pay extra for the most basic features they can provide. I actually want to see Ancestry becoming the most trustworthy and helpful ancestry service of all. They already have a huge database, which is great. But as of lately, I’ve been disappointed. Why make us pay extra for things that other, less accurate testing companies already provide under the price you pay for the actual test itself? It just makes no sense.

Finding lost stories. For the past 40 years, I’ve been working on my family tree. Initially, it was a very tedious and manually process. I spent many hours interviewing family, traveling to courthouses, halls of records and even newspaper office microfiche record rooms. I was an early adopter of Ancestry and have watched it evolve through the years. The extent of records and resources is mind-blowing. It’s all at your fingertips now and the application navigates the sea of data quite well. Algorithms assist in gathering and presenting leads and building the tree in a logical manner. I am utterly amazed at the stories I have found…and I am still finding. There is still a lot of detail to discover. Ancestry is constantly adding new data and records for review, so the stories and leads continue to become available. This is the most compelling non-fictional tale you’ll find!

❤️5 STARS ARE NOT ENOUGH⭐️. Have been enjoying this app for years, and it never ceases to amaze me. Losing myself in the stories of newly discovered ancestors is thrilling, stirring all my emotions. My parents are dead and there are no relatives to consult, so until I joined Ancestry I didn't know about anyone in my tree except for grandparents on my mother's side, and very little was known about them. Thanks to Ancestry, I've found out about my father's parents from Ukraine...and the 4 generations before them. 🇺🇦🇳🇴🇸🇪 My husband's family had always been a mystery too, because his father was an orphan whose mother died when he was a child. That's a whole new, fascinating story. 🇳🇴🇬🇧 Every new day seems to open an exciting new chapter somewhere in my tree. I'm frequently brought to tears for one reason or another, (usually from relief, the joy of finding another person, another fact about someone, etc.), and I drift off, letting my imagination carry me away. So much better than reading a novel; it's our real twisting, turning family story that will never end as long as Ancestry is here to provide the clues, and we're extremely grateful.🔎🌏🌳

Navigation becoming complex. I can’t complain about the amazing range of relatives I’ve discovered going back centuries. But sometimes the hints I get are a little frustrating, because my tree will tell me that “Joseph Smith” is the father of “Sara Brown” while the hints show that Sara is the daughter of “David Jones.” And often it’s hard on the app to navigate your way back to the more remote branches of the tree. That being said, if you’re lucky enough, as I am, to have two parents going back to pre-Revolutionary days (who happen to be light-complected), and suspect that your parents might be distant cousins, you can sometimes find out they are, and also discover Jewish nth-degree great-grandmothers; darker-complected cousins; pastors and poets and actors; Mary Queen of Scots; a slave overseer for Thomas Jefferson 😔; figures such as Robert E. Lee and Martha Washington; Irish criminals deported to the Americas; and an assortment of French Huguenots by way of the British Empire. Your husband might have the DNA test confirm that yes, despite a Greek name and an immigrant from Germany, he is nearly half-Jewish and is attached to storied family fur-trading company owners from Kastoria in Greece who immigrated to the US via Germany. And your children won’t have inherited the same percentages of genes as their siblings. Viva la difference!

Unlocking My Past. Ancestry has been a joy to explore. I first started my tree several years ago, but had suspended my membership for lack of time to devote to the project. Earlier this year I decided to explore my genetic history through AncestryDNA, so wanted to continue my tree as well. I’ve been thrilled with the enhancements the site has made in the intervening years. It’s been even easier to connect the family dots through the system of ‘hints’ provided by the app. Each time I feel I’ve begun to hit a wall, a new hint is revealed that keeps me going. I’m also pleased with how the genetic app is enhancing my search. I have barely begun to explore the many connections that submitting my DNA revealed. As just a beginning, I can engage any person who is 4th cousin or closer - and who chooses to keep their connection open as well. What I’m most looking forward to is searching for all those Scandinavian relations that make up a full third of my DNA. I had no idea there was any measurable Norse blood in my past! I really am pleased with Ancestry, and AncestryDNA, and have only scratched the surface of the app’s many features and my past.

Hope O Creasman. I have used Ancestry since its inception. As a previous person stated, At first it was lacking records, but now it is amazing. If they could make the search where it would narrow down some more, because looking through 2,000 or more and having people come up who are in the 1900s when you want the late 1700s is very aggravating to me. Surely if you put the date of 1768, why are 1970s people showing up. Same with state, if I put SC and California is shown, I wonder why did I even put South Carolina, But I have to admit it does give you much more accurate information. And the DNA information amazes me. If the new ones would put their trees online and the stubborn old ones not keep everything to themselves, especially when you have given them information. Especially on the pictures. I have so many to identify and Rosa or Jose is from the same family, but they won’t share. However ancestry has really added to my knowledge and I know it will get better and better because it already has. It is sad to me because I won’t be around to see what’s to come. (I am 73.) So if you want to know is it worth it? I say a definite YES.

Dna section not working properly. Update: working much better! Old: Let me start with the positive: the tree section is lovely, helpful, works well, and I love it. Now, the negative: the DNA section, which updated on the 1 July is not great. It is set up similar to the website, but please consider that apps are used on devices, such as a phone. The DNA section has become a behemoth if information, difficult to manage or view, crashes if you try and look at Cousin matches for a second person... it used to be quite simple and elegant with the 11 generation view, and option but not requirement to open other users’ entire trees. How can I possibly appreciate their full multi- thousand tree of information on my iPhone? I hate to complain, I use the Ancestry app daily. Some people do crosswords or sudoku. I work on the family tree, it’s my favorite puzzle. I just wish I could use the DNA cousins’ section with ease, but it seems to have become way too huge to appreciate as a simple task in bed or during down time, with the phone. It has become a project strictly for sitting at my computer. Is there any chance to make it more convenient for device use? It’s an app, after all. Thanks :)

Problems with update. I have not been able to access Ancestry since this update. I try to go in but the only thing that opens is a screen wanting me to set up a new tree. If I open AncestryDNA I can access my tree, but it is an all version and runs very slow. Thank you for your response. I don’t know why but it working now, after trying it numerous times I can again access my tree through Ancestry. Before I could only access it by going into AncestryDNA and when I would access the tree from there, it was an older version and ran very slow. I only gave it a 3 star rating since I have not had a chance to use it since I have able to finally access it. I have been using Ancestry for many years and have never had a problem before. I have my problems but they are due to my lack of knowledge on how to use some of the features. Thank you

A wonderful way to find your history. I have used this app for five years on iPhones, iPads and computers. I never had to start over or begin a "new tree" because you log in and you information is secure. I love this app for several reasons the first being I have learned so much about the heroes in my family. I can see the struggles, how wars have affected family members. I found living relatives I never knew. The only problem I have is that duplicates still form too easily but the correction process has been simplified. Every update has made corrections easier to do. You can add pictures, obits notes and they automatically add historical facts to make your ancestors come to life. A ‘Warning’ though this can be addictive! Con- even if you have paid for records after having a membership for years once you discontinue or pause your membership you cannot access digital scans of records. You can however see you have the record as well as see the “detail” of the record.

A Few Problems..... I've been using the Ancestry app since 2012 and, during most of that time, it has performed as expected. But, within the last year or so, there are some very serious bugs that have appeared. First, without warning, data I just entered fora new male individual somehow winds up displayed in his spouse's position and the spouse is gone. If I go back to the start of my line and then back to where I entered the data, sometimes it will show both man and wife in their correct positions, but this isn't always the case. A lot of time is wasted having to re-enter data I've already entered. Another thing I don't care for is this new addition of the "unknown" gender (what we used to call sex), which must always be reset to male or female, despite their very masculine or feminine names. There have been a few other glitches, but the first I mentioned here is the worst. Just to make myself perfectly clear, I am no beginner when it comes to either using computers or genealogy. I have been using computers since 1983 and I've beeen a genealogist since 1984. So, this isn't my fault, it's your developer's screwup.

Found Tons of information& Even my birth Father. It’s the best gift, I received in my life. For my 62 Birthday my son purchased me a kit. While I waited for my results, I began creating my tree. The app was easier to use than it looks and it took no time at all to master navigating my tree. Then the results arrived and wow it was unbelievable. I never knew my birth/biological father so it was interesting seeing possible relatives. But I didn’t have the nerve to contact them, so I stuck to my mom’s tree & adopted father, then tackled my husbands side exploring leaves. Then one day I had a message in my mailbox and it a matter of minutes I had my first contact with a Second Cousin .... that contact confirmed we’re relatives and although my birth father is deceased, I have Aunts, Uncles, sisters & brothers and of course tons of cousin to reach out to! Perhaps I’m one of the lucky few that find relatives, for that I’m thankful for AncestryDNA. It’s a great app and became a new hobby for a recently retired grandma. With the help of AncestryDNA we may have just figured out my next “Heritage” vacation spot.

A long time ago........ In a place far far away. No knowing anyone on my fathers side of our family it was kind of sad. Who where they and where did they come from? After some connections a lot of documents and a little luck, my discovery was amazing. Having the name Jones obviously makes it difficult to ensure, with so many with the same name, that an ancestor is ours. Yet, when the documents like a Draft card has parents names and addresses which reflect the child you know. Your face lights up as each connection becomes a reality. John Lee Jones is my big find. A settler of the west in Utah, in and around Cedar City. It was amazing to read a story of how he took his family and many Saints ( Latter-day ) from Missouri through the mountains to Utah. With his huge family and friends they carved out a settlement. To say the least I feel so proud to have had family like this. Best of luck on your search.

Ancestery review. Accessing this website make available substantial records that serves to provide invaluable information for users to search for their family's history; recent improvements have only made collecting family history evan better!! I can only add to my previous review in that many users will certainly benefit by exploration of families history; your website continues to improve and give many people joyful experiences to remember; I can only follow up or add that we are very pleased with how your website affords so many people the opportunity to take advantage of this service, I’m once again reintegrating my appreciation of your work in this vital area of personal historical data. Once again you’ve requested my opinion regarding your website and it is still my pleasure to commend your services and diligence with helping the public!!

No refunds for auto renewal. This information was apparently available and I believe that, but I also believe it is predatory to not make this explicitly clear. I am out $64 for an app I didn't like, and that's not because I'll have to figure out how to buy groceries this month because of that, it is the experience I've had with the product. I also realize that IS my fault, I agreed to something in which I apparently missed the clause about refunds. But for a premium app in 2022, this really didn't impress me. Maybe I didn't give it enough time, but it felt limiting in what I could do. Perhaps it just wasn't intuitive, but I should have been able to find my great grandfather's "profile" and add him as a family member. I also couldn't figure out how to remove myself as the child of my step great grandfather which was frustrating and a tad upsetting - I'm not that man's daughter. I really hadn't looked at ancestry too much until now, heard about it for years though, and so with the policy I greatly disagree with as well as a dissatisfactory experience with the product, I don't recommend it personally. I believe it can be a great tool for those that are really dedicated, but I just find it too frustrating and unfulfilling to persisit with my own endevors. Perhaps too it would be a much better experience with a DNA kit. I want to convey there may be a lot of reasons this seemed like a poor product to me that are just things I didn't do right.

Love this app. I found my fathers cousin who he confirmed after I read through my DNA matches. After referencing from what my paternal grandmother told me about my grandpa’s sister and parents I found where my grandpa, his sister, and his parents lived in Up State NY after leaving Lithuania by 1918. Maternal side I had family documents, and family stories from libraries in Brooklyn showing my Franco-Dutch side going back to New Netherlands (New Jersey, and New York) before The English came in. I used my Franco-Belgian, and Italian family reunion documents my moms cousin gave me and was able to see others from common ancestors. My paternal grandmother had her fathers Polish Military Passport and I found in Zołynia, Poland on the map that matched my DNA analysis to be very accurate along my Genetic Communities. This is a must have app, even if you have little evidence you’ll find more details along the way.

Ancestry App 5🌟. I have found the Ancestry App to far exceed my expectations! Now having been on this amazing genealogical journey for close to four decades seriously; I am truly grateful and amazed by the way Ancestry facilitates my travels along the way. On any given day they have possibly surprised me with new and enhanced quality of service to raise my heart to further efforts in my safari for the information of our families story to see more clearly and more definitively what paths the many stories have taken to get us all where we are today. I certainly hope that they will continue to be as proactively innovative in their future as they have shown themselves to be in their past and currently. I give it a 5 star 🌟 plus rating for a viable option to increase your productivity in your experience as a family historian!!

Ethnic Background Research Update. Love this app. It was amazing for me to learn that I have ancestors across 3 different continents when I did the DNA test. The “Thrulines” feature is amazing too but I would like to suggest in future updates that there can be some way to search for DNA matches that share varying percentages of ethnic backgrounds. I am very interested in connecting the dots with the Latino side of my family and finding out if possible where I can trace my African heritage as well. Since I have nearly 100,000 DNA matches and not even close to half of the people have pictures associated with their profile, it is hard to tell what ethnic backgrounds are shared with people without clicking individually on every profile. If there was a way to show any or all DNA matches who have, say, more than “10% total Sub-Saharan African and/or 25% Central American” that would be REALLY helpful in potentially connecting dots and further filling in my family tree. I would love to find where those connections are but it is really hard to do without a filter in the search that allows you to bring up DNA matches with people in specific categories. Thanks for your help! I really hope this is a feature you guys will be able to add in the future.

Not Ready for Prime Time. Unlike Reunion, this app requires a constant internet connection to display a tree. Nothing really resides on the iPhone other than a link to your online Ancestry tree. So, from a practical point showing your tree to family members around a dinner table, or while researching in a library, or many other places where a signal isn't always available - that soaks up battery time also - is extremely limited. With Reunion my tree fully resides on the iPhone - period. The fact that this Ancestry app is "free" to paying members is great - the fact that it's crippled and mostly useless speaks to the price value as well as what Ancestry thinks of its customers. Suggestion - charge a couple of bucks and have the full GEDCOM load on the iPhone and present in a Family Tree Maker format. Even if it isn't as fully featured, you'll make a return on invest in both money and added customer good will. But it's useless as it runs now. One star is a gift.

Finding My Roots. I remember watching Alex Haley’s mini-series back in the mid 70’s on television, the country was captivated on how this author brought together a true story of his ancestors. He spent years doing research and traveling abroad to Africa to find any documents he could find on his heritage. Today Ancestry offers us a modern-day tool that eliminates all the footwork and research that Alex Haley had to struggle through. Ancestry allows their members to submit some demographic information and they in turn, ‘run with it.’ Ancestry brings the documents to you and allows you to connect with others who share in your DNA. I have met cousins online who I never would have known if not for this amazing web-site. One cousin sent me a photo of my father’s parents, to whom I had never known, nor what they looked like. This is a fascinating application that you must try. It’s a legacy to leave for generations to come.

Great for on the go!. 30JAN19 Update: I don’t know if I’ve never used this feature? Tried to add burial information for my aunt last night and it won’t save. It just keeps spinning. Tried to go through “App Support” to report the glitch and it pulls up a blank page. So I’m reporting it here and docking a star until it’s fixed. After 10 years, my cousins are finally starting to become interested, so I need the app to be able to save Facts on the go. 18DEC18 Update: I’ve also been using the app to investigate shaky leaves and clean up duplicate hints in the nooks and crannies of my day. The integration with my DNA results has been amazing as well! Perfect companion to my Ancestry tree! Original: I love being able to whip out my phone to verify family stories as we're talking about them. Also, to jot down notes as my Mom remembers them so I can find the paper trail later on. Another perk is to show them pictures of our ancestors in a flash. Love it!

I like but it needs some additions. I love finding all my long dead relatives but I wish there were more detailed options for your family tree. For example, it should include siblings on each layer of the tree to make even more accurate assessments of relation. Also, including an option for adopted children would be amazing. My grandfather was adopted by his aunt, and so she kept being listed as his mother when in fact she was only his mother by adoption. As a result of this, I’m having an incredibly hard time finding out who my actual great-grandmother is because the records are only show the adopted parents name. There should be a way to include both adopted parents for the purposes of records AND the actual parents for genetic purposes. Also, it would be nice if there were more inclusive options that were sensitive to transgender individuals, including the records for older relatives who may have had to alter their paperwork because of the times they were living in. The history that you can uncover is really eye-opening and I just think everyone should be able to experience it.

Very good. The ancestry app is overall very good, and easy to use. I was a bit worried that it may be a little messy at first, but it’s designed very well and it’s very easy to configure and navigate through! This actually makes the app pretty convenient, especially if you’re away from your computer, or are confined to a phone for any given reason. Uploading media such as photos on this app is actually quicker on the app than desktop, but it’s also entirely possible that I may be just saying that from the perspective of preference. The only real gripe I have with this app is that it may occasionally be prone to crashing, and while it hasn’t happened particularly often to me, it is annoying when it does happen while working ok research and you lose your spot. Overall, I think this app is very good, and I do recommend people download it, it is a very helpful app.

It’s decent but not most accurate. In my opinion; This is not very accurate. It says my Half Brother and I have nearly the same DNA however it is impossible since we have different fathers. I have even used my family tree to track my family roots yet it says I’m a majority English which is a lie; my English side is such a small percentage that it shouldn’t even be represented. I’m a majority Germanic and it says my German side is less than 10 percent. I believe they got the DNA right and the percentages wrong which has been more complicated by the current pandemic so I understand it was probably just an accident. It took nearly 3 months to receive my results and yet I have to say I was really let down and disappointed by the lack of accuracy and performance. If you’re thinking of doing this DNA test, I’d say what until after the Pandemic so they don’t “ rush “ your order which is why mine became so inaccurate. Overall the customer support is the best part of this company, not the service itself.

The most you will pay for a headache. Unfortunately if you want to research your family they have locked you in. There are not many sites to compete with them and I cannot wait until they have more competition so maybe just maybe they will take the overpriced membership money and hire a compete website team. It will start off ok then you will get an update, once you do the update you won’t be able to do much! I wish I was joking but every single update costs you at least a month if not more of access to what you need to do. This time it’s hints and building your tree, it won’t take and then it will create triple. You will think you can just get ahold of customer service and their bot Leif is the gate keeper that makes it impossible to get someone to the chat. When you do get someone to the chat they will play dumb and accuse you of being the problem then after you are insanely frustrated and about to throw in the towel a new update comes through fixing all people have been accused of causing, no refund, no apology. So welcome to your new and expensive headache. I am working on printing my work and putting it in writing, I suggest you start that way bc you too will be done with them within a year.

More search functionality options.. The app & website are just amazing. Lots of info at your fingertips, of course, it’s still on you to verify the info is correct & that’s where being able able to search through your own tree better would be helpful. Currently, on both web & app, you can’t search any way but by name, really. However, it would be helpful to see your list of relatives like excel. Filter by dates or locations, etc could really help with being able to more easily validating info against other sources. Also, I’m not a developer so I’m not sure how this would happen but I have noticed that multiple of my ancestors came from the same lines so I have multiple entries for the same person. However, if I’ve pulled in someone that I’ve already had from let’s say someone else’s tree, there isn’t anything sitting around giving me a ping that I might have a possible duplicate. To that end, I’ve spent sooo much time just “merging” & cleaning up a tree….that part is extremely frustrating. Some sort of recognition of possible matches would be wonderful!

Good source of information but scummy to boot. I was initially enthralled with looking into my family history and the records provided by ancestry were helpful and not something I could have easy access to otherwise without having to foot over the large amount of monthly cash for it, unfortunately I lost everything except the stuff I entered in and the photos after unsubscribing from the service and I now get annoying popups for having the gall to click on things. Most of the information seems correct but I end up having to do a lot of weeding out because a lot of it gets attributed to the wrong person. There also isn’t much on certain people despite me being able to find stuff elsewhere, it’s ok if you like death certificates and some censuses and you can also look at what other people have entered in but otherwise it’s pretty useless. I also find the “cultural” aspects of the site to be the most abhorrent, but of course it has to be “mainstream” because that’s the only way to make money these days. I shouldn’t have to see pieces of my chopped up dead baby on this app and I hope people can see this review and know to stay clear away from this app, there are plenty better services to make family trees on and it is not worth the incessant amounts of money.

Great Concept but Inevitably Hard to Piece Together. I am struggling with how to figure out how I am related to my DNA matches. The Thru Lines are a great idea however I wish there was something similar that only showed Dna matches instead of everyone because when someone like myself is adopted and has no idea of their heritage or ancestors, it’s just a big puzzle. For instance I entered my “assumed” grandfather and I get tons of hints and thru lines for him but I have no idea if I’m related to him via DNA because so far no matches that I can find . I do admit I have thousands of relatives I can’t link in my tree even though we matched DNA, simply because idk how we are related. No common Surnames shared mostly. It’s very hard and confusing and I’m struggling to find my real ancestors because I don’t know my family nor who is who. If you could help us find a way to piece this together, you would be healing many lives that have holes in them from not knowing their families. you would help make so many lives better. Nonetheless ty for the hard work you have done so far.

Why I prefer Ancestry Family Tree. I’ve tried and do use other family tree genealogy sites. Each has its own strength. Ancestry is more user friendly and produces a product that is easily read and visually representative of the family relationships. One feature I would like to see is an easier way to insert family or individual stories and reminiscences in the timeline of facts. The notes feature was not particularly helpful and are not visible when reading the story or timeline. All photos saved from other sources should automatically be saved in the media gallery. They can be deleted later, if not wanted, but is annoying when one finds it wasn’t saved after viewing it in a hint. I don’t like the new way of adding information from hints that require side by side comparison and checks when I know what I have is correct and the new information is different because of the date of the hint. It risks adding people a second time. Navigating back to a prior page after checking out a hint is not always easy, requiring going out of the tree going back in from an earlier point in the main tree. Otherwise, Ancestry is my choice of genealogy research.

Website is better, all access membership isn’t worth it!. I love ancestry, the things i’ve discovered are an amazing gift to my family. That said, the app version leaves much to be desired. The website allows you to connect with other members, view their profiles and trees (member trees are the most helpful feature on Ancestry), and send pictures. That only scratches the surface when it comes to all the goodness you’re missing out on if you use the app over the website. Additionally, the app glitches. If you delete someone on the tree it will reload you back to your home person, and often when you try to accept hints it will save the wrong one (or save one multiple times. As for the membership, while expensive they are worth it. I do think that the first or second are the best (though depending on which part of the world you want the international records from it might not help). I find that FamilySearch works better for international records, and Ancestry works best for US records. All access is basically a scam. All the newspaper article you want to look at (i truly mean ALL of the ones for my relatives) are behind another paywall. additionally the Fold3 records are largely already available on the ancestry website (draft cards, hospital admissions etc). Keep your 1st-2nd tier ancestry membership then get the higher level newspaper membership separately.

Won’t remember my login and password!. Why do I have to login every time I use this app? Didn’t used to require that. Users need to be able to decide if they can stay logged in or not! Finally allowed users to choose their background and that helps, but the look and feel of the app is still off compared with the browser version. Default graphics are cartoonish and amateur hour garbage. Why can I not collapse a level in my tree anymore? Discoveries tab still a confusing mess of unwanted fluff that takes way too long to load. Still would like DNA information in its own section like the web version. Really dislike change for change’s sake because you always break something, make it worse, and make serious genealogical research into eye-candy fluff. Let’s get some serious genealogists on board to critique this app, get rid of the fluff and eye-candy, and get some professional quality back into this app. Also, while you are at it, how about radically reducing your subscription rates so most people can actually stay subscribed for the long haul? You charge too much for providing access to public records. These are PUBLIC records and should be free to all. We know you have access to all the data created by familysearch volunteers. Anything they provide for free should be free on your site as well. As I’ve said before, be courageous and drop your subscription prices. If you do, more people will stay subscribed over the long haul and your bottom line would be much healthier.

AncectryDNA. I have been working on my family history for over 50 years and have accomplished quite a lot. Then, a couple of years ago I discovered Ancestry and am amazed about how much easier it is to do everything. Yes, there are quirks, as there are in every program, but this one is wonderful. I recently decided to have my DNA done, but was too suspicious to give Ancestry all of the information ahead of time, so I used a different e-mail address for my DNA kit, to see if they would be able to come up with the information I have on my charts (back to the 1500s in most cases). I was totally amazed that they pinned all of my ancestors down to the exact areas I was expecting them to be from, including the Jewish ancestor that is on my chart 4-5 generations back. ABSOLUTELY recommend this program. It is very addicting to do family history and this program makes it even easier with the very helpful and accurate hints. Thanks to all of the programmers!

Great app, not-so-great update. I absolutely love this app. I’ve made a family tree of over 7,000 people, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. It’s so interesting to find out these things about my family and I love that this app gives me the opportunity to do so. As for the recent update... it’s not my favorite. They completely neglected some of the app’s prominent bugs and focused their efforts on making it aesthetically pleasing. As great as the app is, there are some glitches that definitely need fixing. An aesthetic change is not what this app needs. Besides, I prefer the way it looked earlier. If you haven’t tried this app out I would definitely recommend, you do get some bonuses if you pay for a subscription but you can still get a lot of enjoyment out of it without paying. It’s a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend trying it out, but some of these bugs really need fixing.

Too much change. I’ve been using my app for years, it use to be great even after I cancelled for a while. it seems like every time there is an update we loose more freedom to search or go to the forms I saved when I was a member. I can’t afford the subscription rate anymore. But I also can’t go to my matches and compare connections anymore. I use to be able to cut and paste my info no longer can do that anymore. For years even without a subscription you could view compare shared connections (no longer) So stuff i paid for and viewed and added to my tree when I was a Member is now gone unless I pay again. That makes years of work I done to make this tree is worthless now to me unless I pay more money. I should be able to save the info and view the info I attached to my tree once added as a paying member. Need to make it a little more affordable to retired members.

Enjoy finding long lost relatives, but.... I really do enjoy the Ancestry app. Although there have been many occasions where I have had to go to the actual website, because there are functions on the website that I can’t access through the app. One would think the app would have MORE features than the website, but that’s not the case here. That’s why I only gave 4 stars. Plus, lets face it. There really aren’t that many ways to search ones family history from one central access point, except for Ancestry. But make the website & the app with the same accessible features, and that fifth star will be all yours, Ancestry. 👍🏼😉 Also, I am a paying member. With the amount of money I pay annually to be a member, not to mention through multiple years, it sure would be nice if you would throw in a genetics history test for no charge. THAT would earn you 5-Stars-PLUS!

Not helpful.. Unless someone in the family has already tried doing this AND you have someone (which you’re going to need more than one person if you want both sides of your family) to help you know the names of yours and their families then this isn’t helpful. You have to put it together yourself. You put in names dates and locations and it does decent at finding the right people but that’s only if like I said someone else has already done it before and it shows you what they’ve added to confirm who you are adding yourself and with our help from my family a lot of the things it’s shown me has been the wrong people or info but thanks to someone else in our family who knew a little more had added things I had been able to get it started but coming from a big family there’s only so much I can find or do to build the tree accurately. Don’t use this thinking it’ll be able to just find your family easily you will need lots of information about your family and you will have to find them and identify what’s right or wrong and it’s all very confusing the way the app works it’s hard to get around the tree the way I want to looking at things. Don’t recommend.

False advertising. Do not believe the free 14 day trial. You may get charged & then apple itunes will not refund your money. They told me that all sales were final & that apps are not personalized. I was not told this & there is nothing on the free 14 day trial page within the app that has terms & conditions or any exclusions. I had received a previous free trial & was surprised to see another one. I clicked it thinking I’d received it because I did not keep the subscription originally. Apple itunes store kept me on the phone for over an hour refusing to refund & quoting the all sales final in the terms & conditions. There needs to be an * on the free 14 day trial page in the app with at least a short sentence stating if you’ve received a free trial that you will be charged the full subscription price for one month & not receive the free trial. This is false advertising & makes both ancestry & apple itunes store look very bad. I learned my lesson the hard way. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. Save your money & don’t even risk it if you’ve used it before. Reclaim the records offers all records for free, same ones ancestry charges for- public free records-paid for by your ancestor’s taxes & you can use ancestry through your taxpayer $ for free at your local library. I’m so angry.

Good App, Convenient. I really appreciate the convenience of being able to do ancestry on my phone! It makes it so easy to hop on and do a few leaves between activities. The app works well, but with a few issues. Occasionally, when trying to view something with a photo/attachment, it will say I need a paid account to view it, but usually when I go back and then click on it again, it works. Also, there are a few hints that take you to a website that you have to pay to be a member, just to see if that hint is the person in your tree (e.g. family search); I always skip those hints. Thirdly, a few hints always mess up no matter how many times you try to accept them; it just says something went wrong; try again later. (I’ve noticed this with newspaper articles.) I only give 4 stars because the census pictures only show you one page, whereas on the PC you can click to view the next page or previous page. Often the family is split between two pages, and I can’t confirm anything that is not on the page that it chooses to show me. If this were changed, I could give 5 stars, though those other problems still need addressed too.

Overall good. Overall this is a great app, which are used extensively. They’ve improved quite a few things over the past few years. As of this writing, there are still a few glitches: The titles of attached photos often disappear when they are attached to multiple individuals (which for the time being is why I always duplicate the photo title in the description portion in case that happens). It is quite frustrating that you cannot delete records on the app like you can on a laptop. For some reason, some marriage records create duplicate marriage events, even when the people you are attaching it to are already linked as married, and even win their names are exactly as on the new marriage record. This is incredibly frustrating and happens often. Perhaps most frustrating is what seems to be a recent glitch where all of a sudden the supporting records and attachments for an event are no longer attached to that event, and sometimes even the date and location disappear. I have found when that happens if I reattach the records, it will go back to the way it was originally with that information where it belongs. If you delete a person, sometimes the person remains. I have found this is usually fixed when deleting someone else from that family or when logging out and logging back in.

Absolutely Fabulous!. I got bit by the ancestry bug in 2009 before I became a member. What started this for me was learning all I could about my great grandfather (my moms dads father.). Great grandpa left the home when my grandpa was three years old no one knew too much about him. Before becoming a member I was able to locate the him and within three weeks I actually drove to a rural cemetery and found his grave!! I was also able to find history. A few years ago I joined Ancestry as a full member and absolutely love it! My family tree, maternal and paternal, goes back for some to the 1500s. Two years ago I did the AncestryDNA (the reports were just updated recently as well!) I can attest to the fact they are accurate because I know where a lot of my family came from and the DNA members it matched me to are relatives, some I know (but didn’t realize they were members.) Totally fascinating and soul fulfilling to know where my people came from know what blood runs through my veins. Rock on Ancestry! I’m hooked ❤️👍🏽

Definitely five stars!. I found out a lot of secrets in my family that I never knew about that some family members just don’t talk about or keep secrets from everyone. Lol so it was very interesting. Also, I got to find out about the history of my family on both sides and it’s pretty cool and very interesting, and a great thing that everyone should know about is where they came from, what made them who and how they are genetically and socially (location and environment) but one thing I do know is we are all unique in our own way and us as humans we’re all somehow connected in one way or another, and we all should stand together as human kind and put aside all the separation of one another , judgment to each other,, violence toward another human being, hatred towards a certain type of person, racism towards a certain race, inequality between people, and all stick together as one in the this world and it would make the earth be much better place to live on. Love and Peace to all mankind! -Philip J.

Resourceful. This app has been pretty useful. I’ve used it in about 98% percent of my research. I’ve used the laptop version the other two percent. Though it’s still limited by the info that’s put into by other users. I recommend using google to add to the search from time to time. I only used the paid version for a month but it still cut some search time down. If you try the free 1 month trial, I suggest the international version. Costs a lil more but expands the search area. I’ve found out I’m descendant of a Viking “king and queen” from 850 Denmark! And they are the grandparents of the inspiration for the term “Bluetooth”. Herald Gromsonn the “Bluetooth” No telling what you’ll find! Get start!ed 👍 My only complaint is if you delete a sibling or a wrong ancestor, it’ll kick you all the way back to you. If you have to remove a few duplicate sibling entries, it gets annoying. Update: I’ve gone all the way back to about 200 AD. It would be nice to see my entire tree and not just a specific branch.

Record confusion. Over the past couple of years Ancestry’s records have become difficult to connect in addition the basing the company in Dublin has increased the cost to the consumer making research less rewarding. From some years ago it appeared that if a number hits were made on a particular record then this record was prompted as being a genuine connection to a family tree and many times it wasn’t correct. Lately records from the USA have a once off charge per extraction and so make the obtaining not justifiable and having a worldwide subscription not cost effective.

Too many bugs to use. I love ancestry and if this app worked I would use it daily! Unfortunately it’s never worked for me. I constantly have to log out and completely reinstall, and the support people tell me to do that or use the desktop version instead. It should people that I have lots of information on as blank unknowns, it doesn’t let me see what’s in my gallery, or it shows me 2 out of 10 items. Sometimes when I move through the tree it crashes. I have thousands of hint to sift through yet it constantly shows as 0 hints when I select ‘best’. Brilliant system, poor app. Can’t wait for it to be improved because I know I’ll be addicted!

Fascinating information available. Highly recommend getting a DNA test done, as was recommended to me. Then Ancestry alerts you to DNA matches. Want to leave some history, real-life stories and photos behind for future generations - as we all want to know this somewhere along on our life journey

A bit harder to navigate than the website. This is a bit harder to navigate than the website, but it’s far more convenient to get info while you’re out and about. A fast way to add information while interviewing family for first hand information, you don’t need to be in front of a computer to add relatives.

Not using the right names. The results I got were accurate geographically wise, however the names used were not. I have reached several KURDS that have done this DNA test and they all come back as either Persian or Turkish. There are independent ethnic groups that live everywhere in the world and they have been there for centuries. You can not call them the largest ethnic group next to them. I might have Persian DNA in me but I am a Kurd and in the map it tracks me back to Kurdistan. I don’t care if due to British and French colonization, we were not able to have a defined country called Kurdistan, but the place is home of Kurds divided between 4 countries made by colonization to serve their interests in the Middle East. You should be more aware about this point. Kurds are so unhappy with the lack of knowledge about history you show in your results

AMAZING!. I have quite a lot of information already in The Ancestry Family Tree site since I began tracing my family History some years back. I have taken a bit of a break from it, but now I have an iPad and I thought I would see what the ANCESTRY APP was like when I found out there was one. It is amazing - I have just downloaded the APP - and there is all my family stuff entered over the years all there - how wonderful, and of course I now have loads more to add. This is great! In just a few moments I have been able to add images of electoral roles which came up as suggestions on various members on my tree. I quickly purchased a month's subscription. No hard slog looking for things - they were right there and being an iPad it is so easy to enlarge up the image before adding it to the tree. I can see me becoming a bit obsessed with family history again! Update: it continues to be very useful and lots of improvements. Now if you visit a relative and maybe they have old historic photos you can photograph with your smartphone & upload to the person in the tree. Love having my family tree with me all the time in my phone App.

Very disappointed with the whole experience. I received my dna results less than 2 weeks ago and now the results have disappeared from my account. I go to DNA story and it just says to buy a kit or activate one. Where have my results gone? I wouldn’t have even bothered with this but my husband was curious. Seems it was a waste of time and money if you ask me. The app is woeful and tells you the same old hints over and over again. Any other info or articles want more $$$ and I was going to purchase a world membership but now I’m glad I didn’t.

Ancestry Research is wonderful. I have had a DNA test done & through Ancestry I have made contact with many cousins around the globe. My tree goes back in parts to the 650 knights, ancient royal lines; my mind is blown by what I have found out from Ancestry resources👍 Thank you Ancestry I am having a great time researching my tree....... again Thanks 🙏 AAA++++

My history. I am constantly amazed at the knowledge that is imparted from Ancestry and only wish that I was a bit younger to be able to grasp the technical know-how to gain the full benefits of it all......but I am getting better I think. Things need to be more clearly set out perhaps. It has been wonderful to meet my second cousin in UK through email and I hope to meet more in the future. I made an error on my tree with Lillian Bennett and have been unable to correct it, which dampened my enthusiasm. Overall, you have a wonderful program, thank you. Dellas Macdougall

Great app. A great app. So fascinating to research my family history. Well laid out and very helpful. Expensive but worth it. Could be improved by allowing you to directly copy information from other trees. E.g. if I discover that a great great great grandmother had 15 siblings it would be great to just copy those in from another tree rather than manually add them each time.

Lost generations. After searching the old fashioned way for my heritage the old fashioned way Ancestry did all the legwork and hard yards in the 2 years I have been investigating. I have no reason not to recommend this application to anybody chasing info and also doing the DNA test which has put me in contact with relatives all around the world, thanks Ancestry team you made the search for info on my maternal/paternal parents and siblings easy. ChrisA

Research. I like Ancestry but don’t like that you have to pay a huge subscription to get/confirm information on line however, it’s better that MyHeritage as you can still add to your tree without having to pay(if you know the information) where as MyHeritage you have to pay to keep updating it. Hope that made sense? Since using Ancestry we have family members contact us & it has been great.

Great BUT ..... Love the convenience of having my genealogy portable and always in my phone for quick updates and to share with relatives. BUT .... Would love to read messages via the App, would love to know if unanswered messages are due to people not logging in or blocking - needs a “read” notification. Would be great if hints filter out documents you already have. Sometimes Ive saved the same thing multiple times. Access is very expensive and notifications about good deals for renewal have to be chased by phoning.

Stumbling blocks. How to get so absorbed in finding new relatives. It’s great to be able see other trees and the chance to occasionally write to that person. I would like to have a marker to know where I left off or need further study . I would like a highlighter to a family member that is a stumbling block and needs further investigation so that if it’s proven the trail is saved .

Quick & Easy. Rather than fumble around with the mouse, I can select hints photos or stories really easily. The new tree filters are great and it is a lot easier to look over lists of families so you can correct them. More in app features would be great eg delete a person without going back to home person.

Ancestry app needs improvement. Adding date of birth different in each place to put in date. If year is there and you want to add day and month the year disappears which it didn’t use to. Spellcheck is very annoying when names are spelt in various ways The updates to app annoy me as it comes up with hints not my family tree The updates made to the app make the app mostly annoy me. App worked better a year ago.

More features. The test is great. However ancestry could add some more features, like: filtering less the shared matches, I know that just shows the higher ones. It doesn’t show the number of matches in the app, only in the website. It would be good if you can show the triangulation between matches. It would be great to know the haplogroups as well.

Good but.... One thing I find disappointingly difficult is editing and changing errors some of which seem to be the result of of the way the files work. Should be more user friendly in this regard! But the auto-search and discovery facility is very useful and almost makes the cost worthwhile. As a retired pensioner, eventually the cost will be beyond my means. With ageing populations throughout the western world, Ancestry may need to consider pensioner discounts?

Just upgraded. I’ve been using the app for years and this is the first time I’ve disliked an upgrade so much. I am having trouble navigating DNA matches and moving between different kits I manage. I can’t find how to filter searches effectively like I used to. For some reason each kit shows up twice It annoys me that US yearbook clutter my discoveries page even though my research is not us based. At least put it at the bottom so I don’t have to scroll past. I only upgraded today so I haven’t even had a chance to try and work on the tree at all.

Ancestry. Only had two days and working well, however still prefer using my computer for searches. I can see potential to update recent info at family gatherings 😀 Quick access to show family members has been wonderful Still using app after several years and finding it useful for quick entries and showing family. Also a reference point when out on research locations

Frustrating and time wasting when things are lost.. I tried to delete replication of one family member and ended up losing an entire generation! I have just wasted 6 hours of my life for nothing! I restarted using after same frustration 5 years ago and thought (surely!) by now it would be more user friendly. But nope nope. Fix it guys. You are getting enough money to make this work way better than it does. 0 out of 5 stars.

Ok. Always wanted try this app was impressed but again while doing my family tree hints kept sayin my cousins were living in America which is wrong. But they we’re correct on my great grandmother asked my parents if this was right they were surprised as so there information is accurate but to many hints are wrong specially like my late grandfather his middle name is Henry and they keep saying it’s a different name please try to fix this other then it’s pretty legit

Oh so portable! In the pocket for moments anywhere.. To carry the family detail in my pocket in my iPhone and have that replicated on the iPad and computer, has simply become a given. The level of access is remarkable and I understand that the three devices are best suited for different capacities and uses. But to have the same detail in the three of them is superb. Wonderful work. I expend most of my data on this app. Does that it all? The access to photos, official records ... it never ends. Is that an obsession?

Ancestry. I love everything about this site it’s so easy to use and the amount of information is incredible I have been using it for about 10 years and I do make use of other apps but this is where all my family history is kept and where I get most of my information from r

Great app!. It’s easy to use. You can read up about the history of each region you have a connection with which is really detailed and it explains so much. You can also fill in your own family tree and see how far you can go back as you learn more about the past. Totally recommend it!

Great research site. Great research site. I’ve used it for over twenty years however you should note: even though you have paid for years and most family trees on the site around my family lines have used most of my research to advance their trees Ancestry stop you viewing all the records you found, added and used to establish my tree of over 24,000 persons are no longer available unless I continue to pay. So be warned: unless you continue to pay you can’t access your files and research. Check it out.

Finding my family. Ancestry DNA were able to locate a number of first cousins. I was adopted as a baby and had never met a relative from either my birth or adopted family. At the age of 66 I took the plunge (and the test) because I wanted my children and grandchildren to have some idea of where we came from. I had built up a notion in my head that I was probably an illegitimate child of some poor young mum. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I was half right. My birth mother was young when she had me at 24 years of age, but I was the youngest of five boys in an unhappy marriage. Two of my brothers are still alive and I have been given a warm welcome by so many relatives. Heartfelt thanks.

Love it. I have used this App for many years, suddenly I was no longer registered as it dropped off due to my credit card being accessed fraudulent and I failed to update my new card, once a realised and I had to reregister my account and now it's so much more expensive but I like be it any way and recommend it to everyone.

Ancestry. Keeping you connected to your ancestors in an easy format. It is costly to maintain your subscription but I have decided to just keep paying as it’s a wonderful service. I have used other family tree gathering apps and truly this is by far superior. I would like more printable formats to share info with family that are not on the app. Go family hunting !!!

Great mobile family tree resource. I have used the Ancestry app for a couple of years now, and compared with the website, the app is so much better. It shows more record information and pictures without having to pay for their member subscription, which makes it easier to determine if they are actually the person you think they are (with same name, etc). It is also more user friendly and easier to navigate than the website, especially while viewing the tree. Only criticism is it sometimes crashes when you try to add data so you have to relaunch and do it again. A minor complaint for a well designed free app.

Complicated but effective. The ancestry app takes a bit of getting used to, but once you’ve mastered it, it becomes much easier for most work than the website (which is incredibly busy). I’d definitely recommend it, but it does take time to work out what’s where. (Start with options along the bottom)

My Happiness With Ancestery. Having access to relatives around our world, both past and present within an instant, in my life, through Ancestery, is quite wonderful. My ambition is to secure families marrying and linking into other families and so on within my wife’s line as well as my own, throughout history. My personal research began back in February no name1983 as we found our 2nd of 5 sons was expected. In 2017, this son gifted me with Ancestery and has paid my membership to this day in June 2023. I have been delighted in everything Ancestery has enhanced my work in my son’s gift and has catapulted it into quite an historic tree.

Bad user experience. The family tree is not user friendly and has so many bugs. it shows multiple people but you delete one of them they all delete. It doesn’t stay on the screen where you were working so if you delete a connection you have to keep searching them each time and we are talking about a 6 hour process on iPhone it’s that bad….. Have you actually used this app or what?????? There is so many basic functionality flaws with linking family. It seems they need to go back to basics with app functionality and quality of life improvements. Having all this information is really meaningless when people are not entering there family information and can’t make a tree. The family tree has so many problems. I can not make myself any more clear, Doing dna test is meaningless if people aren’t filling in tree correctly because the tree is so buggy!!!

Great. User friendly, easy to navigate and enter in known information. Expensive for tracking family history of unknown. Best if you have plenty of time over the trial period to get all you can find and cancel the subscription before the trial period ends. Retains your family tree without having subscription.

An expensive and bewildering set of paywalls. It has information that I can’t get anywhere else but it also tries continually to get you to subscribe to add-ons, often to obtain information you can get for free from somewhere else. Ancestry occasionally sends me an email, telling me that I’ve got a new hint. I get all excited and open the app to get “this hint no longer exists’ what gives? Is this a gimmick to get you to go back to the app?

My Ancestory. Love working on Ancestory app , I receive many suggestions from Ancestory which I find very exciting. I look forward to working on my tree every day because Ancestory whole team is working with me. One small problem is I can’t make a comment beside a the picture or other , this is on the app but if I need to comment I use my I Mack apple . I would not be with out Ancestory, Thanks all. Margaret

Ancestry tree. Love the App however when I have too many of the same hints I would like to delete them a little easier than saying that they are not family. I take my iPad everywhere so it is quite easy to add details if I get them when visiting. I don't like the choices for saving or deleting. Sometimes they are correct but I just don't want to save them because they may belong to another member of the family and I can't save them to the other person. I don't like getting multiple hints from USA if I have asked for Australia, or England or Europe. One or two are ok but I have seen dozens!

Family. Although at times people add ancestors that are wrong. Being vigilant and checking it can be avoided. That checking sometimes brings up little beauties!! I just don’t know what I would do without you Ancestry. I have traced both mine snd my husbands tree back to William the Conqueror. Yes we are distantly related. What an amazing find. Off the back of that now have had book made called “Related” How could I have done this without you Thank you Anne 😁❣️

Love it. my only request would be for another relationship status to identify partners, I'm finding there are many relationships in my family tree where the partners didn't actually marry, so "spouse" is inaccurate. At the moment I ignore this minor shortcoming. I use the app all the time, in conjunction with the website. It's really easy to use and follow. It's made exploring my family tree much easier and very enjoyable.

Too many problems. This app used to be great, have used it daily for years, but now there are so many problems with it it’s not worth the headache. One day DNA groups are available the next they’ve disappeared. For over a week now I have been unable to add notes to DNA matches as it freezes so you have no option but to close the app. Definitely not worth the hassle at the moment, hope there are some big improvements with it in the near future.

Made some great discoveries. Through Ancestry DNA, I have discovered an entire branch of the family that I didn’t know existed. There were some shocking surprises in the journey but meeting some wonderful people has made it all worthwhile. Having multiple family members tested as well as constructing the family tree is highly recommended as more hints become forthcoming. The Ancestry program is a big help but you need to understand that it doesn’t do all of the hard work for you - it can only work with the data it has so you will need to do some of your own research as well. It is good that any living people in the tree are private by default. The DNA results helps a great deal in placing the pieces together.

Ancestry app is excellent. I’ve been researching my ancestors for 35 years and the Ancestry App is the best tool I have ever seen. You can find new ancestors, photos of them, where they lived, their occupation all while having a 15min coffee break wherever you are. Hints are generated for you which are quite often exactly right. Well done Ancestry. Link your Ancestry tree to the FamilyTreeMaker program on your laptop and you can sync it and you have everything you need.

Ancestry. This is a very useful site but I think people need to be more careful when accepting hints. Sometimes hints are suggested which unavoidably involve someone with the same first name and surname as someone in the family but they may be from a different family. Because sometimes these hints are accepted as belonging to a particular tree when they do not an incorrect family may become attached which is difficult to correct. People post photographs in good faith which have been incorrectly identified. You actually need to have traced your family yourself from primary sources such as Civil Registrations of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Parish Records, Wills and other sources before you can accept hints and attach individuals and facts to your ancestors. It is difficult to have corrections made but otherwise it is a very useful website. Thank you. Gael Phillips Australia

Wealth of knowledge. I have been part of Ancestry for years now and sourced so much important info. I would and often do recommend Ancestry to anyone contemplating their family history. I have always helped fellow researchers when I could and I’ve also received some really useful information from others on the message boards. The many connections of living relatives has been very exciting and inspiring, allowing me to add whole branches to my tree...all the while checking resources to verify our connections are authentic. DNA is another path I’ve decided to experience..so far it has shown connections that I am checking up on..it seems a little tricky to begin with, I need more experience before I can give an opinion on that !! I’m on the highest level on Ancestry, and I absolutely blown away by the huge amount of info I now have access to. If you can stretch your budget to afford it...do it. However, I warn you there is no going back, but it will speed up your progress and if you can help others out, it helps to justify the cost and that is very satisfying !!

Big improvements. Whilst some of the mobile platform isnt as good as the computer one, this has improved considerably. I find the hints easier to see & understand & this is a great reference point when out & about or away. I can just bring it up to check people or find someone. A lot more rigour than before.

During lock down. During lockdown this ap has saved my sanity as I have spent it doing my family tree and I have found out a lot of things I didn’t knowi did too don’t know what I would have done with my self if not for family tree as I have had a stroke and I am in a nursing home

iPad with M1 Chip. The app has performed well up until I purchased an iPad running the lasted iOS version 14.6 with an M1 chip. Since installing the app on that device the app only has partial functionality. Currently I am not able to select to view the profile of any person in my tree unless that person has a hint associated with them and then only by selecting the hint first. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on multiple occasions. The result each time is on first starting the app I can successfully view a person’s profile but after that I can no longer view any person’s profile (unless they have a hint) including the person I successfully viewed on first start up. Two other iOS devices with A series chips running iOS 14.6 work as expected. Contacted Ancestry support and the usual response as expected was not our problem despite the fact that not one other app on the iPad with the M1 chip is exhibiting a problem. Sorry Ancestry it is your problem, it is a coding issue which is being highlighted by the difference in how your app executes on a a hardware device using different hardware architecture to iOS devices utilising A series chips.

Thousands of cousins I would never have met. I come from a very large family, I have 50 first cousins on my maternal side and only six on my paternal. Ancestry has helped me develop contacts with both sides around the globe. It has given me a new interest in where I came from and where I might go. We are in contact through messaging and share family folklore, compare traits, talents and failings. We all have heroes and villains in our past, this is like reading the best adventure snd detective story ever written.

Ancestry has taken my tree so much further.. For years I did my family history by walking the hard yards, sitting in libraries reviewing records and indexes, and visiting country towns retracing the pioneers' footsteps. But ancestry has allowed me to link up to so many other branches of the family. Dead-ends have turned into leads and lost relatives have suddenly appeared.

Perfect History. Family history is easily traced from the many records given to choose, sometimes confusing when several records are given with different dates and spouses or siblings. It takes time to sift through real facts and delete those not needed.

Good app!. It’s pretty easy to do most of the actions. Sometimes though, you have to restart the app because it bugs, that’s why I just have 4 stars instead of 5. 🐜 🐛 🐞

Virtual unusable for me. When I try to open this app it begins by automatically downloading my very large family tree, rendering it completely unusable. Let that be an OPTION instead of the default. Sometimes I just want to check my current sibling count (donor conceived, it’s a lot)

“Where your DNA comes from”. The default page on the DNA page saying “where your DNA comes from” and having all global regions before you’ve even extracted my DNA is confusing.

Finding Ancestry helpful. Very easy and intuitive

Love it, but problems. Love it! I’ve noticed that adding records from the app can overwrite relationships that were clearly marked biological/step/adopted, etc. Have to be very careful not to mess that up. Very easily attributes children to the wrong marriage, too.

Use app as well as site on computer. Took ~1hr to get the hang of using the tools. Very rewarding and informative.

Wonderful App. The AI and the amazing amount of documentation that Ancestry is linked has been immeasurably helpful!

Unable to edit. Many of my family members have incorrect or incomplete information & I can’t see how to correct it.

Web site. I am enjoying the information. But would like to see more about traits. Who I inherited them from. Also I have difficulty he around in the site. Finding what I am looking for and getting back to where I was. I get lost easily in this web site. I find it confusing.

Sign in having trouble. Why can I see my matches tree it always saying loading

Birthday use. Useful tip- add a feature to remind user about a family birthday, marriage anniversary, based on the information he has entered in his family tree

Crashes with any save. I’ve been using Ancestry app on iPad for years, but since a few weeks ago, anytime I save a hint, the app crashes and I have to force close the app. I don’t know what was in the last update, but please fix. Ancestry without option to work on a tablet makes it partially useless. FIX ASAP please.

J’aime énormément!. J’adore l’application. Seul bémol, quand on cherche un certificat de naissance, faut chercher des toutes les catégories mélangée! Ça rend la recherche encore plus laborieuse.

Easy to use. Love Ancestry, but wish membership was more affordable

Wow.

App will not update info entered using Edit Person. I use the app on an iPad. For a couple months now, if I try to make an update using Edit Person, the data is not updated.

Disappointed. I’m very disappointed that I can no longer see shared matches without a subscription. Very disappointed. I’m giving you two stars because I can still message without a subscription.

Everything Costs money. It was great to see who my connections are but every page you try to click on costs money. When it shows you photos or certificates it all costs money, you cannot click on a lot in the app without being asked to pay the fee.

App is very limited compared to excellent website. Unfortunately, the App is very limited compared to their excellent website. Stick to the web,

Greasy. I used to love Ancestry. I thought of them as a great company and product. Got my husband a DNA kit for Christmas and got a three month subscription for a dollar. Now before my subscription ended, they sent me an email which I promptly cancelled my subscription. The other day I noticed a charge for another three months on my Visa. Try to cancel subscription again and contacted Ancestry. They promptly said that they could not refund me even though I had cancelled the subscription twice. FYI the subscription never cancelled until they cancelled it on their side, why even have a two-step cancellation process if it doesn’t even work. Now they won’t refund my money because of their own technical issues leaving it on me saying that I didn’t cancel even though I did it TWICE! Oh, and to top it all off I never received a receipt of sale either saying that I got charged, it was all just a surprise. I will never be getting this product again. I give a ⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ to everybody else that gets this product that they are a greasy company and will take any money from you whenever they can.

Simplicity. This app is very easy to use. However users must be certain they have accurate information. Look for other sources before putting in information

Quick look up. If you are in a cemetery and need to look something up. Great App.

Nope. I use both a computer and this iPhone app. 1. When doing a search within the app it tends to eventually get confused and doubles or even triples individuals. The fix is to close the app and go back in 2. In the horizontal tree view the app eventually/occasionally loses the home button and individuals become unselectable. The fix again is getting out and back in. I have two trees on the go and would love to be able to merge them. I do have a paid subscription.

Ancestry. Not happy with the latest update, I’m spending too much time trying to figure it out instead of looking at details

Garbage. App doesn’t keep photo tags and doesn’t allow uploads as the system continues with an error. Developers don’t care. Glad I didn’t pay for a subscription.

This is a must. I just got mine done, it’s so interesting and already have been contacted by a relative! You learn a lot about yourself.

Wow…. Went on the app recently, only to find out that something that was included, is now a paid subscription, DNA Inheritance, Breakdownn by parent… will not be paying for this. So sad, trying to extract more money for information that was already provided. Update: they took away more features that were free and now have to pay, such as shared matches. Not impressed.

Disappointed. If you do not renew the information you have gathered to date is no longer available to you.

Ancestry DNA. I have been searching my whole life to make a real life story for me and find the truth. Ancestry has done this for me. A little hard to navigate,oh well, I will prod along. Thank you Ancestry 🙏

Inaccurate results and difficult to use app. I’m disappointed with my results. I also have hard time using this app.

Good App. Seems to work well and looks good too!

Keeps crashing. Usually I would give it a 5 star because I think it’s so cool to find out my genealogy, however since the last update it crashes about 2 seconds after I open the app. I’ve tried all the usual ways, turn it off and on again, etc. but to no avail.

Expensive. I think we would get more people on here if the monthly costs weren’t so expensive

No chromosome browser. It would be perfect if they would let us compare our chromosomes.

J'adore.

Love it!. Such an amazing app! Mind blowing

Familial matches. I loved this app but the recent changes are just so upsetting. I paid for a dna test so I could have access to my matches and now I have to pay for a membership to see them? It’s just absolutely ridiculous. I was promised these things for free with the dna test. It’s not right that they took it away.

New dna. It is a great feature

Love the app but... The app is very well developed and they dig up some awesome information but I wish they’d let you buy photos, etc without opting into a membership like they used to.

Spouses. A couple is not always husband and wife; please update to indicate wife of wife when spouse is listed as female.

Amazing!!!. Getting to know my family heritage a lot more!

Great for Auto Searches. It does a great job of finding possible family links automatically. Compared to Ancestry for the PC I find it a bit clumsy and not intuitive for navigation. I use ancestry on the PC as well and the searches uncovered by this App and entered into the program, are then synched to my PC, so as a result they compliment one another.

Data input SLOW. App crashes. Entering data is painfully slow. It’s only when entering data on an individual on my IPad. It’s like the app cannot process the data fast enough as it takes a while for the data to enter. App has to catch up on what was entered. Next, the app just closes. Tried deleting and reinstalling the app with NO luck. None of what you suggested works. Turned IPad off and on. Deleted and reinstalled the app. Checked for updates. Data input lags ONLY for entering info on an individual. In all other areas it’s fine.

Money wasted. Total waste of my initial money now. I enjoyed checking my dna reports and seeing who I could be related to. Now to u’ve taken features that used to be free and put them behind a subscription pay wall. Greedy, greedy greedy. I’d give you no stars if I could.

T. TÇa sr es re est ex vu à de se resserrer es r es sa ex ou u AD et d es ses resserrer êtes eve r esse tt s

Use it be good. Use it be a good genealogy tool but everything is behind a paywall? It’s my genetics why the hell do I have to pay monthly to see things related to my genetics I already payed the 100$ at the beginning

Ancestry is great concept, but the App search is almost useless. I love the concept of Ancestry, however … I paid for the World Deluxe Membership, but the App only returns hits for USA and a little Canada. The App finds: US and Canada newspaper articles, (which you have to pay another company to view); gravestone pictures; USA/Canada marriage records, and USA high school yearbook pictures. Can the App with my World Deluxe membership search Finnish or Swedish records - no. I don’t have access to a sit-down computer for most of my life, so my phone is my only internet access, and the World Deluxe membership has no value to the App. My grandfather’s Canadian marriage certificate notes his mother and father, and their birth places in Europe. I find nothing when I search for them with the App. How am I supposed to fill my tree origins without App hits from Europe? So far, I have paid almost $300 for 12-months of World Deluxe without a mother or father on my grandfather’s side to show for it. I cannot keep renewing my membership at this price.

Match Search is not effective on mobile app. I went to support and they said I need to use a laptop or desktop computer for the DNA Match Search to work. I tried reinstalling a few times, I tried this with iphone 15 and previously my iphone 11. If I search ie for “Smith,” one or zero names comes up. If I search for “Smi” all the Smith’s show up but so do all the the Smirnoffs and Smittys and Posmins. This does not happen with other competitor DNA sites.

Best genealogy app!. I have conveniently been using this app for years to easily input new data and connect with unknown relatives. Highly recommend this app! Thanks!

Severely Disappointed, Took Away Free Features With DNA results. I have been a member of Ancestry (free membership, but sometimes I got the monthly subscription to look into my ancestry further from time to time) since 2011. I got a dna test around 2016, and I loved having access to what my certain traits were, such physical appearance and personality, but I open up the app today and now you have to subscribe to get this information!!! It’s been years that this has been included with the DNA test results, and all of a sudden you have to subscribe to get this information??? I am really upset. They also took away the more recent ability to see what dna you got from each parent without them taking the tests, as part of the regular dna results feature, and make you pay for a subscription for this too if you want to look i to it. I payed money for the DNA test to take full advantage of the features it included, which now I don’t have access to traits. It’s a selfish money grab.

Enjoying it, but…. ….one thing Ancestry needs to work on is specificity. I know for a FACT I’m not Russian, for instance, but since Poland & Slovakia are nearby I’m grouped into that. More specifics, that’s all I ask, not generalized areas and B 1%s that likely are unrealistic. That being said, it did give me enough to work on, and made a couple of new discoveries, heritage wise, via my parents (I figured I’d be 110% white European, guess what I hit that nail on the head, sadly..) …my brother & a couple of cousins on mom’s side are darker skinned, though, and now the Transcarpathian mountains, Polish, Slovakian & even Hungarian intersections makes me think we might have Romani ancestry!! I’d love to dig further into my hypothesis, but again, sadly, Ancestry only does so much for you, so guess Imma spend moola elsewhere…🤷🏻‍♀️

The best way to track your family's past.. If you've ever said "one day I'm going to research my family tree" this is the way. Start by filling in what you already know about you, your parents , grandparents, aunts, cousins, etc. It's fun and so easy. Soon the app will give you hints about certain relatives and their vitals. It's up to you to decide if it pertains to them or not. The research gets exciting and it's a great way to gather your family to help with their recollections. Don't wait till it's too late. You only pay for what you want, such as access to certain government records. There's no pressure from anywhere and you're on your own until you choose otherwise. I have followed the “breadcrumbs “of my ancestors back to the 1600s. I never thought I’d be able to do that.

Lacks key features. I enjoy Ancestry, I really do. However the app leaves much to be desired compared to the browser version. I think one of the biggest issues for me is not being able to use “collection focus” as a search setting on the app. I search through a lot of “Indian Census Roles,” as much of my ancestors and the ancestors of those I research for work and college are Native American. Unfortunately, I can’t choose “Native American” as a collection focus on the app like I can online. I don’t always have my computer by me, but my phone is pretty much always around. I know I can open up Safari and use the website version, but website version isn’t completely compatible with the new location of the search bar for Safari. If collection focus is something I can choose on the app, it should be easily accessible. If it’s not, then please add it.

I found family on the other side of the globe. This test brought me to relatives I never knew existed and opened up stories I never knew about my family. I reached out to some of the dna matches that came back and found cousins in Australia who’s grandparents were cousins with my grandparents. I found an uncle grim my great grandfathers . I never knew my great grandfather had a brother and I found out he died in the war in Greece - my great grandfather raised his brothers three boys as his own. I found their kids from the names and pieces of story my new found cousin in Australia gave me (lucky out Mother’s are alive to help us). I just started using the site and I’m starting to grow new relatives exponentially ..one connection to another. My family is from Greece and the people I’m connecting with are in Australia Italy Canada USA and other . Science is fascinating !!!!

Matches aren’t sync to other DNA matches. Example 1: A person can be matched to 4 siblings, but when clicked on one siblings Shared Matches’s, it doesn’t list the other 3 siblings that are being managed by that one sibling under shared matches but you can see them in the managers profile. Or if you search for them. Example 2: A uncle and niece share a cousin. Both are showing shared 10cm with this person. But when either the uncle or niece click on that shared cousin matches, they don’t see each other as a match. The niece sees not shared matches with the cousin. **Also, please bring back the under 8cm matches. They are very important in helping with researching and connecting. **And we shouldn’t lose information that we have collected and added to our tree, if we can’t afford our membership and have to cancel for a short time. If information is found while on a paid membership, that information should be able to be kept in the tree. Thank you!!

Finally finding relatives 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. This is so exciting to learn about my relatives, that I haven't heard of before. Loving it, more than I had expected to know about my family history. I have come across a woman that looked exactly like me. Hair and same teeth and skin color. She was twice my size. Most of the woman that I knew very much were that same size too. And I met a girlfriends, boyfriend whom she married. When I first saw him. I thought he was my dads older brother. And he said that I looked just like a cousin of his. And she too was large. I'm trying to put more family pictures of my family that I know and have. Thank you for giving me all those families names and their documents.

The Unexpected Ancestry. I started Ancestry trying to trace my mother’s Irish Ancestry. At some point I started tracing my father’s side and I found some pretty amazing ancestors! The first direct line I found traced back to William the Conqueror through Mary Stewart, Princess of Scotland👑 Not what I was expecting!😂 I found so many stories about my ancestors and their gradual journey to America. It is so surreal learning about the people who eventually led to me. I also found a lot of present people who are related to me because of certain ancestors, and it is kind of weird when that happens! This taught me so much, but mostly how everyone is related to each-other. Even strangers I have passed may share a common ancestor. You never know who you will find hiding in your tree! I’m glad I researched mine💕

Nice app but with limits. It’s nice to be able to work on your family tree via an app however it has its limits. Sometimes the tree lines are all jagged and missing members. Some records you can’t view on the app while you can on the computer. You also can’t view the whole gallery of photos for an individual unless you want to change their profile image, then other images will appear. I’ve had photos appear on other person’s tree that I’m certain were added to someone else’s profile. There’s bugs that have been fixed and some things that need to be improved but if you work on your tree enough then you’ll know what can be accomplished better by computer and what you can work on via the app.

Good, but needs some major bug fixes. I’ve had the free version of Ancestry for a while, and it’s been working perfectly until about 3 months ago. First of all there’s now a constant advertisement on the bottom of the “tree” screen saying “unlock records… etc” before, you had an option to close it now it’s just permanently there, it kind of annoying when trying to see the entire tree. But now for my biggest problem with this app. There are “phantom lines” that started appearing where they lead nowhere and connect to no people or icons, it just clogs up the screen and no matter how many “bug fix” updates I get there still there! Other than that the app is pretty much perfect, but I really hate the lines clogging everything up. If this gets fixed ill change the rating to a 5 star.

pros and cons. The app is amazing though I find it pretty annoying when the app says for example that Johnathon Mills is the father or Mary Davidson but it says for the father of Mary Davidson is Anthony Samuels so it’s pretty confusing. Also there is a glitch where I had multiple potentials and whenever I clicked on one it would not show the potential it showed me and would appear blank with a white guest photo with no name under it or it would say add mother/father. They is also another glitch where in my family tree it would show random gray lines beside the lines of the people. Basically say this is the people and the lines: 😀😀 and these are the lines on the side that are glitching: 〰️➰➿〰️➿〰️〰️➿〰️➿〰️〰️. Pretty annoying. 📉 😀😀

searching for a specific person it shows up weird. on the ipad when i start to search for a specific person in the search section i can see the unknown silowete person and there is no name written for that line in the list and when i click on the line none of the records show up or the people added that are related to that person. i am paying $40 for something that is having problems. For all these issues and bugs going on, the price to use this software and website should be quite a bit less. update: i completely logged out of app and then logged back in and then the records fully downloaded and went to search section and everything populated this time. ill start logging out after each use so I don’t run into this problem.

Ancestry Brings to Life the Stories of the Elders. My family has a tradition of researching our ancestry, going back to the 1800s with the Fletchers (Moses Fletcher was an ancestor and verified signatory of the Mayflower Compact) on our Mom’s side, and Finnish roots on our Dad’s side as immigrants to Oregon in 1877. Their stories come alive with Ancestry’s algorithms digging up records to ‘stare & compare’ as I discern what is valid, possibly valid, or just not family. My great-grandfather lived in Hammerfest, Norway as his family struggled to survive the last famine in Finland; at about 15 years of age, he was orphaned and…. The story makes him and his struggles to survive real, personal, and endearing. Grateful to know the past as a gift of life and struggle to flourish, and a flame of passion for life, theirs and mine.

Latest Update Absolutely Ruins This App. I am afraid that the new UI lessens productivity with the service, the multiple windows are confusing even for an avid user and complicates a perfectly smooth and clean UI that was the best part of Ancestry on mobile. After years of genealogy work since 2007, the previous UI has allowed me to do more than all the previous years combined with the ability to link documents seemlessly with ancestors. I am thoroughly disappointed and can only hope in some stroke of luck that my voice is heard and the update is reversed. I've never seen a company do this after spending money and resources on development, but I assure you that this is not just initial unfamiliarity with a new update. Thank you for your time reading this.

Family. My now found cousin searched for 50 years to find a family member. Her daughter bought and my daughter bought us a kit for Christmas. A few months later this lady contacted me. She just wanted to know how we could be connected. Well long story short. She found her father my dads brother. Her prayers are answered and she now knows who her biological father was. But her father never knew about her while he was here. So we have talked many times. Covid kept us from meeting in person for a few years but finally we are meeting on a vacation in September. So thanks. Also I bought my sister a kit for Christmas and she now knows who her biological father was. He has passed also but my sister has found some of his family still living. So thanks her prayers answered too.

Dislike New Updated Look and Feel. I would have given this app 5 stars but they have recently changed the look of the app with new placeholder images and new themes that are either dark or light. The new look is too spatial and makes viewing more difficult. Add to that the new light or dark themes without the contrast of the previous classic view and it’s become really hard to look at and read. I have been on Ancestry over 20 years. They have made some boneheaded changes in the past but this is by far the worst change ever. Users should be given the option of the new look or the previous classic view. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.

Ancestry App. This is an amazing American treasure to have. A service that answers questions that range the entire globe on comphrensive DNA levels revenant to our and the future generations, life. A gift to acknowledge and keep forever, a reality check, truth, a meaningful revelation to be used conversely yet understandably wisely, maturity and lawfully with good productively good intentions upholding the family legacy and in good faith. I’m humbled, grateful, gratified to all of the persons who have contributed this system for all walks of life and I remain thankful forever. How I struggled in my younger years to access and keep this precious information on my own terms, autographs and records that was taken from me years ago. Thank you in advance for your assistance, thank you, thank you, thank you🥰.

Ancestry DNA is Whack!!!!!!!!!. I activated my kit on 11/15 and they started to process it on 11/28. Tell me why have I gotten two different dates on when my results would be ready and they still not ready!!!!!!! Here we are in January and my second date for results were on January 5th........No results. I’m beginning to think they lost my test. Everyone else who has submitted their test that lives around me has gotten their results within two weeks. I asked for a refund and the supervisor was like, “I will give you one month free of ancestry...wait where is it?” I told her, “Yeah I just cancelled that monthly subscription! Why have a tree and I have no one to compare it to????” I’m so disappointed and wish I would have given my money to 23 and Me!!! Update: coincidentally I got my results today, the same day I posted the above review. Ugh. I’m not even excited now! I will give 2 additional stars. That’s it.

Fantastic App Save One Minor Flaw. I really like the Ancestry App. I’m on it constantly as I am a professional genealogist and it’s the easiest way to get data real-time when whether I'm standing in some ancient cemetery or at the National Archives in DC. There is one flaw in the design which frequently raises my blood-pressure: the search “feature,” if indeed you can call it a feature. The slide bar is not effective to isolate specific searches within the various Ancestry databases and there’s no way to alter the individuals dates within the search. This can make for a serious headache when you’re searching for a common surname while standing in said ancient cemetery. Other than that one issue, it’s never let me down and it’s a lot easier to pull out my iPhone and load recent pictures/media than it is to carry a laptop into the field.

Window. This website is amazing and easy to manipulate, although I’m still learning as a senior citizen. Extensive records are available but I have come to realize that transcription of information as dictated by non English speaking people must’ve been difficult due to pronunciation of words, letters, therefore B’s and V’s , Y’s and L’s, etc. compared to how we communicate now! Thank you for all you do. I’m enjoying the app. A window into our past and exploring all the places my ancestors came from, excitement to find out I’m Native American! Now I know why we were called little Indians as children by neighbors. Thinking to myself it was due to us always running outside to play for as long as we were allowed. I feel proud my ancestors were the indigenous inhabitants of Texas & Mexico.

Ancestry. I love to use Ancestry. It doesn’t matter if I use the regular program or the mobile program. Ancestry is very easy to use and understand. I find it overwhelming at times, because it contains so much information at the touch of a keyboard click. Going to libraries is not required, researching from home is relaxing. At times a person might have to access the help menu or support, but that is only when You don’t know how to research a certain Part of the program. You need not worry though because all the information is documented to help you along. If in the Worst case scenario you can’t seem to find something, you can call and talk to someone at Ancestry!

What did you do to this app?!?!?. I was really enjoying this app and finding it very useful until I just redownloaded it and it has completely changed. Seeing matches and easily putting them into groups with matches of shared dna was one of the best features and now it’s almost impossible to do that. It seems to take several steps now to do things that used to be one step. Everything was available about matches on an overview page that is gone now. I can no longer click on a person who manages a match’s account to see if they are also a match. I can no longer tell if a match is an unviewed one or one I have previously looked at. The simple design that existed before was so much better. I am very disappointed.

Really loving this. I started on Ancestry a few years back on a free weekend and really enjoyed it. Bought the DNA test for everyone in my family. My son did his first a received his results which had a few unexpected but not surprising results. I am struggling with test manager function. After my son had his results he made me a test manager. I can get to his results thru the email notification that I was accepted signing in to Ancestry via a browser but I cannot get there thru the app (app support link error is why I put in the review. Other than this kink am really loving the app. Update: When I click on the DNA tab I can see my sons ethnicity results for a nanosecond then the screen defaults to me with no way to get to my son.

So happy this exists!!. I’ve always been so interested in my family story and ancestors. I joined this site when I was a teenager and tried super hard to dig around for free because I didn’t have a method of payment (ahaa) I gave up for awhile only to return when I was older with that 💰 so I could get the full experience. In one day I discovered SO much! I was so excited to share with my family! We bonded for hours and pulled out all the old photo albums! I was able to add many photos my grandmother has to different family members profiles for other people searching to see. I don’t think anybody in this world isn’t interested by this stuff so seriously: if you’re even just a little curious, start that tree! My only issue with this app itself is the larger your tree gets, the app seems to lag a bit. 4 ⭐️ for the app - 5 ⭐️ for Ancestery 😄

Amazing. But a small technical problem. I’ve been fascinated by my family heritage ever since my dad passed in September of 2020. And I’ve been happy and busy as a bee looking all over for family But lately I’ve been having trouble. I’ve found family members coming from France. And I wanted to see the towns. But only 4 of them have shown up on the map while the rest aren’t showing up. And their birth and death places are in their bio. Yet not showing up. On another note. The tree sometimes gets stuck. Whenever I wanna see children of my grandparents, I mainly use the tree icon but whenever I tap on a person, none of the icons appear. Just opens directly to the person.

Great & Useful App - Could Be Even Better. I love the Ancestry app and have learned so much from it. I remember the old Family Tree Maker program from the early 2000s and with that, you were able to view different “reports” – one of which listed your relationship to different people in the tree (i.e. 1st Cousin Once Removed, 4x Great-Grandfather, etc.). What became fascinating would be how you could find yourself related to the same individual in multiple ways. This could be due to cousin marriages but also from siblings in one family getting married and having children with siblings from a non-related family. This was a fairly common practice throughout the colonies. I think this would be a great idea to allow members to delve deeper into their family trees and would also provide us with more value and insight.

Amazing Paper trail. It’s fun to put everything together with a factual paper trail. It’s very cool how the app builds the tree before your eyes. I’m 58 years old, I never paid a lot of attention to the family tree— I just remember the highlights... I have put it all together and can’t believe what I didn’t know. I’m sure I know more than my parents did, a lot more. I love that I get to save the records so other family can easily see each document because that really seals it in to your brain and it becomes more meaningful somehow. So— this is about the app... I’m using it on an iPad and it is very responsive. I like the web version a bit more, it’s just more intuitive— maybe because I spent a ton of hours on the web based app before I tried the iOS version. My my MacBook Pro is four feet away from me and I’m happily using this four year old iPad if that tells you anything.

Finding family. Ancestry first off is amazing. I haven’t got my results back yet but it’s been amazing searching family I know and it’s been something me and my mom can bond over since she’s helping me. One thing though is when I search my last name. My last name is Hulzebos which is Dutch but whenever I do the little search surname, it doesn’t pop up. It’s not anything serious but I would really like to see results about Hulzebos. The other is that I would search some past family members who are dead but they wouldn’t pop up, I was able to find my late father but I could search up like my great grandpa for example and he wouldn’t pop up. It’s not something serious, ancestry again is amazing but I do wish that these kinds of things would show up.

DNA. The tree feature is awesome, and the hints are alright, but I am disappointed in the DNA results, and can’t help thinking the results are dependent on who’s interpreting them. When my aunt first took the test, a small amount of Native American showed up, which was consistent with her family tree, and matched many relatives’ results, then was taken away with the previous update. But yet the tiny amount of african percentage remained. Why was the 1% of NA removed, but not the african? The two were the same amount in the first test results. Actually, the NA was situated above the african. Seems odd that if one was going to be removed, it would be the NA. But yet relatives still show their 1% NA, it wasn’t taken away from them. I was hoping to see it corrected in this latest update, but no. I have mulled it over for awhile, and just cannot get past what a big let down the Dna turned out to be.

Priceless insights. I cannot begin to explain how much the knowledge we’ve uncovered about our roots has enriched our family history. As the family chronicler, I have maintained this account for years, uncovered and shared scores of stores with the next generation of our family. I’ve accidentally connected bloodlines with two local families through this fabulous app & DNA repository. Spend a little time filling in the names and birthdates/locations of your grandparents and you will be blown away where the hints take you. I entered my father-in-laws name and birth details and within an hour a ‘leaf’ hint appeared and a picture of my father-in-law as a teenager popped up like magic. Don’t miss the chance to connect with your family history.

I’ve used this app DAILY for 2 years, and I wouldn’t know me without it…. Being adopted brings its challenges. Especially genealogical when you don’t know where you came from. Those of us alive today, often associate ourselves with our parents, grandparents, those we share in this lifetime. Sometimes we intuitively feel like there is so much more to us that that. There is. My experience has been like Christmas- unwrapping and unpacking the thousands of those that came before me,and it seems that I am the sum of all those amazing ancestors?🤴👸🛡🕍🏛 It has helped heal wounds, and given me so much more than I can even sum up here. Customer service is top notch, easily assessable. The DNA service is amazing too. Get the subscription. You have no idea who you’re made of. Really…

Fine, but doesn't reach it's full potential. I'm a UX designer myself, so I know how hard it can be to create a design that's intended for desktop into a working mobile view, but there are a lot of places where functionality has severely been compromised. The one I notice more than anything is that you can no longer view the most basic information about a person (birthdate, birthplace, death date, and death place) without having to go into a quick edit or scroll through their life story. It was fine in the header where it was!! Additionally, I am not a fan of the life story view, and would prefer to have the factual view of the recorded events in their life back. And many times I've accidentally clicked search records when trying to search for a person in my tree. It's just a really shotty experience.

Adoptee. From foster care to adoption. I knew little to no details about my biological family. I was raised with my adoptive mother’s family but gained my last name from my adoptive father. He never shared much regarding his family’s history as it relates to our last name. I remember as a child meeting a couple people from my father’s side of the family. They’re all deceased today. My father as well. With so many unanswered questions I, decided to pursue my curiosity through Ancestry. Being a father of two beautiful children, I had very little to no details regarding my history to pass along to my children and generations to come. Ancestry changed my story. I now know my biological maternal and paternal family history as well as my adoptive father’s family history. Thank you for your services!

Have been a member for at least 19 fantastic years. Ancestry continues to grant me copius information on my ancestors. More than a few famous ancestors have been discovered and added to my trees. The biggest surprise was through the DNA testing I had performed which revealed my birth Father of which my twin Sister and I had never been told. My twin died before this revelation came out. My Mother never confided in us but was always concerned as to why I wanted to know about my ancestors. She always said they were dead and would never help us. Wished she was still living so I could let her know she was related to several US Presidents, General R E Lee and Daniel Boone. Would have loved to hear what she thought then. Thank you Ancestry for all you have provided to people like me that yearn for this information. It is who we are and what were made of.

Membership account access. Before I start on a rant, I would like to say that this app is really good as a starting point in researching your history. Now with that being said I find it difficult to understand y it is so hard to find info on someone that you know has a marriage or birth certificate. Very frustrating when said person is a dead beat dad that holds the key to half of your DNA. And knowing he has other children out there, that can’t be found! Anyway, off topic.... I did a 7 day trail, and was billed on the following day... less than 24 hours and then when my research took to out of the country, I was charged .99 supposedly for said records but was charged the following day for the World package.... so I now have a month of Ancestry to help me on this journey but, I find every time I find something out of the US, I’m being charged more money. Help me to understand what my 2 monthly memberships paid for!

Get the detailed insight to your unique history. The current ancestry app provides a convenient process to build your family tree. You can start with just a few facts or stories about close family members ; and use the hints provided by the ancestry software to expand links to other family members. Ancestry brings together many databases including military, census, birth, grave stones, residences and international census info etc. The basic ancestry app is now linked to the ancestry dna data. So, when you complete your dna testing you can then see even more relationships to your family. You can also see your dna ancestry timeline with associated geolocations. This provides a graphic map view of where your ancestors originated and their migration path to the current family residences. A treasure chest of info for those with casual ancestry interest or even more experienced genealogy pro.

Tracking Family. Wonderful way to start a hobby adding family and finding a way to see the connection of relatives throughout the generations! Finding facts from articles, pictures, and others’ contributions, to seeing a tree come to fruition is satisfying. Having heard many stories and names when I was young, then knowing my father had written many people down helped when filling in many relatives. I can continue to add to the lines and and now connect with actual people whom have actual DNA from our ancestors. This is a great way to give history a face, timeline, and lineage to our family and grandchildren. Certainly an opportunity which has opened a world that once seemed so far away~ now so easy to get information and feel a connection!!!

Ancestry. This is a wonderful app! Deciding to work on one’s personal genealogy, is a great undertaking. It’s very important! There is a lot of information out there, for one to access, but knowing how to access this information, & gather together the things you need to start your Family Tree, can be overwhelming. That’s where the app, “Ancestry” comes in. They’re here to help, & assist you personally in this great task. Ancestry not only makes, searching your family history easier, but they’ve actually made it fun! Sign up today, right now, & start your very own “Ancestry” account, & let them assist you in bringing your family together! You’ll be so glad you did! Diana Holderness

A Tree. Trees come in many types, so how do you know which is better? Trees have many leaves of shape size and are colorful. How do you know about branches? I recently found relatives my family never mentioned in my 82 years. I use Ancestry because I am amazed at what Ancestors or related people show up from their search engines either by name Or AncestryDNA. Each day/week I get choose to put another leaf on my trees. I have lots of relatives that use the same middle initials, but their real middle name is different. Birthdates, Spouses names, and related data you can choose from new to update or add. Yes AncestryDNA & Ancestry keeps all my trees looking colorful and factual. I highly recommend Ancestry and it’s upgraded version. Saves me a lot of time pruning & trimming.

Disappointed. I hate the fact that something so important to everyone in America especially African Americans to find out their heritage should not cost so much. And when hints are provided you still want money to add the hints to our trees. I go to the library to research because Ancestry is free to use while in the library but when you locate a match you still can’t automatically add it to your tree. I think that you now have a price tag for almost everything that maybe you should think about the things that were free when we did our DNA test and they now cost money to look at. Shameful that I have been researching for over 20yrs and if I had to pay those fees associated with Ancestry I would have been broke along time ago. It’s always about making money when sometimes it should be about helping people discover their past going back to Slavery. The one thing I really appreciate is the coloring of the black & white pictures. However I do not believe that when my tree is public so that I can make connections with others that they can steal the pictures without any notifications. So I now have my tree locked again. This should always be a back and forth thing between relatives/matches.

Ancestry photos. I don’t know who to contact I have been trying to get this information and I thought it would be great for everyone if you guys could help out with some of the ancestry photos not everyone has photos of people but I figured that the government has some type of government database of photos with a B license or a ID or something that you guys can at lease so that we can at least get a picture of some of the ancestors I know that it might not work with people who are currently alive but people who are passed it should be OK to release photos not sure if you have a link to the government for deceased individuals but I have a tried endlessly to get a picture for my mom of her mother and have not been able to do so this would be a great addition I think to the ancestry search

How Love conquers all. Ancestry App is absolutely amazing. To see our connections from past generations just proves that we are all immigrants.... imagining what our ancestors risked, often leaving home never to see their parents and siblings again..... WOW! My great grandmother left Sweden at 17 years old, on a boat, alone, sailed around South America to land in San Francisco to work as a domestic. There she met my great grandfather from back East- he had been in the Spanish American War and was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco. They fell in love, made it through the great earthquake and Fire of 1906. They survived , married and traveled by train across the country settling just North of Boston, had 5 children, one being my dear Nana, and both lived until their 80’s. Love conquers all. This inspires me as an American..... I come from strong genes, no money, but Love. MAKE SURE YOU VOTE..... #GetOutTheVote

You Pay, You stay. As long as you pay for your family tree, you can stay on Ancestry. If you don’t pay, you lose access to all your hard work; even on free offers. I have been on Ancestry from the “Family Tree Maker” program. At this point, I should own access and rights to my Family tree and not have to pay for access; I should be a Life member. Until the newest update, I could not share the Family tree with the family, because any one who visited the tree, could also delete the entire tree. I like the idea of the Contributor capabilities to add to the tree, but not delete any information. My tree is 1200 people strong. I would hate to lose my information. But I do believe that Ancestry should be able to recover my tree… it’s just too much Information to loose and we pay for it.

Ancestry mobile awesome. I have connected with over 3000 ancesters using the mobile app. When I use the app on my computer it is not as user friendly is the mobile app. This app on occasion does lock on me but overall it is the app I use the most. I recommend this app of all other online genealogy programs. Don't waste your time and money on family search it family trees. Ancestry is by far the best. AncestryDNA also opened up a can of worms. Apparently my brother who has since pasted had relationship with a woman during the Vietnam war once. And when I sent in the dna I was contacted by a man who’s dna matched me as his aunt. He looks just like all the other Adams men. However he is a very sweet wonderful man who wants nothing except to find out where he came from. Upstanding man a firefighter commander that loves to play hockey.

Highly useful links via trees to research, but. members of the Mormon Church have free access to certain research resources thru "Family Search" an LDS genealogical website (non members have free access also) which like Ancestry provides links to many research sources via created family trees, but maybe not as robust and extensive as resources provided by Ancestry. The Ancestry app on iPad (I'm using an iPad 2) is fairly fast and terribly useful when you don't have access to a browser on a non mobile device. I do prefer browser based work but the app is fine. With this app, as with browser based access, a paid subscription is required if you want those imbedded links (Ancestry calls them hints). You can pay by the month, which allows you to discontinue your sub at any time before the next monthly billing cycle is triggered.

Rip off. I had my account hacked, I was marked as deceased. Not amused. Next thing I know ancestry took $84 from of a closed PayPal account using an email address that was compromised over 2 yrs ago. Do you know how hard it is to actually get help from anyone during this plandemic? I started a free trial but canceled it right away. My mum took ill and is now under hospice care. That seems to be when this white Corporation seeks to profit. The fact that one even attempted to use a closed account during a time when banks have skeleton crews- no one was looking, further accessing it by a compromised account on the dark web tells me what I surmised about ancestry from day one. It’s all about money- to hell with the consumer, they will take what they want. Never mind the refund we NEVER got when encouraged to upgrade our acct. One employee insisted we needed to BUY and take the test again. WRONG. My dna wasn’t changing. We didn’t neem another swab- but what was really messed up, it was an unnecessary “sale” that a smarter employee confirmed should not have happened. A refund was promised. No refund was ever given. Ever. Ancestry changed my heritage several times. It was far more inaccurate each time. Fortunately I know where to look to find my JEWISH ROMANIAN FAMILY. I had to use another site to confirm an uncle died at Buchenwald. Waste of money, severe loss of credibility- sleazy tactics to take funds from a trial canceled 6 months ago.

I am Still Judging You. A WARNING to anyone thinking about putting money into this product. This update is phenomenally disappointing. I’ve always sung Ancestry’s praises for being a major part in learning about my family, connecting with so many lost members, and building new relationships. The access to matches, their trees, and their shared matches had been pivotal in my research, and yet every time there is a new update there is something that is lost. I just feel so unbelievably disappointed and frustrated with this product, and feel worse because I pay for the service, but getting less and less access to resources and information. I’m really trying to stick around, but every time somethings lost it’s like what’s the point: no access to matches as a viewer, no access to trees, no way to search by shared sub grouping, no way to search by country. The app looks cute, and has a decent design, but apparently we’re all subject to a major sacrifice of efficiency for design, sad.

Good For A Family. Ok so let me explain. This is pretty cool for an app. My great uncle is working on the family tree going back to the 1600s. With the apps ability to find documents and stuff is pretty cool. But it does have a slight delay or at least it used to due to the new update. I think it’s good for a family but you do have to spend time in it to get some really cool results. I think it’s good for a family that had different heritage and family that has come from all over the world. But you really should try it when you have a chance it’s fun and isn’t to hard to figure out and gives you a weird satisfaction to see a family you barley knew. Other than the minor bugs it’s great and you should get it.

Great genealogy app, great for those who travel to ..... Gather genealogical artifacts, information, and photos. Love how much more there is to do in Ancestry when you can’t access information. Then you can study techniques to find a new way to gain the information. It is so much more responsive than past versions. However, I would like ancestry to come up with a way for a family historian to merge all their family branches into one family tree with mutual permissions and connectivity. This would enable a cleaner search over time as more of the family lines cleave to their heritage. Plus, it would be great if DNA Circles were automatically generated from the home person to their parents to begin the task of bringing family closer.

My dna hx experience. It took days to do a tree . Names where removed . When I went to names that where Indian descents . It took off some , drug out to complete , then I put in Jefferson and boiling from bowling . It became weird However due to status people would change their names or the writter was an elder who wrote wrong . Then went from Hoskins wonton to Sizemore to couches due to marriages then bowling and also showed boiling . Google then looked . One chg in name also Wooton. to Wooten not question . I think when you got into the Jeffersons starting with a brother then I had to show proff so I am not trusting . It says if you think your Indian you have to write to them . Ok then if related to Thomas Jefferson then I had to show proff . Odd did not have to prove name changes . Etc . Hx government protector . I will try another if not restricted . One cousin went under indian grant for schooling . No intention 66yrs .
