German is fun.... ... but there are so many ways to make mistakes! So this app helps when I am trying to ascertain what verb I am looking for. But often there will be three verb forms in one sentence and I wish I could chain the definitions together so I can understand the contextual meaning. This a great step forward and convenient for quick phrasing. Howzat?

Great App!. I love this app, I generally find everything I need, plus, unlike translation pages, it gives you alternative meanings or how different words might be used in different contexts, so you can easily find the most accurate word or phrase for the situation.

German dictionary, translator too, Gut!. I got this dictionary to help me speak to friends in my International Woman's Club. The dictionary is very gut, with noun genders and lots of examples. The translator is a big plus for phrases. In the new version, the translator works offline! It translates voice and pictures in addition to text. Highly recommended.

Rating and comment. Oftentimes the proper attribute of nouns are not given (DER, DAS, DIE). Otherwise very good. The availability of the pronunciation feature is great!

Vidalingua. I am very satisfied. Could you also add numbered sample sentences for each different meaning?

Non German. This app has provided me with a way to communicate with my non English speaking friends in Germany. It’s very easy to use.

German translator. I’ve only started using it, but I like the clearer, refreshing format. Some words it still doesn’t know, so it just repeats what I just typed in, instead of using two hyphens, say, to indicate it doesn’t know the translation. So, nice work. Does anyone read these? I left the above message several weeks ago. When I go to enter a word, I always have to kick the keyboard down out of caps. It would be better if it were always lower case! May 9, 2021 Here it is, Sept. 22, 2021! Same situation!

Indispensable. I use this app all the time.

The Recent Update. The update that happened yesterday has made this app unusable on my macbook. I can no longer switch between the dictionary, translator, etc. as it just clicks on the dictionary word behind the icons. Then the dictonary word takes up the entire app and there is no way to exit from the word without completely closing the app. I can also no long adjust the width of the left side of the dictonary screen.

Very Quick Reference. The app is very useful on getting a quick answer. I also find it effective for finding the German name (or English name going the other way) for a specific tree, animal, tool, plant name that is not commonly used, but still useful to know, but hard to determine from a German or an English description alone. The app could use a larger vocabulary for these terms as it expands.

Erroneous translation. In the quiz area, I came across a translation of English “transpire” to the German “schwitzen”. I tried to report this to the app publisher but could not find an easy way.

Makes for a great dictionary. The app is great for use as a dictionary, but lacking for deeper grammatical assistance and understanding. I think this deficiency could be partially overcome by supplying more sentence-based examples. It would also be great if there was a section for German slang and more German sayings such as “Klappe zu, affe tot.” The Germans have such a great sense of humour that it would be good to share this aspect of their culture. All in all, a very handy app.

German free English. This app is quite good. It does not have enough German slang or profanity. Overall a reliable free app with a reasonable volume of words

Simple and Effective. It leaves out the unnecessary stuff other dictionaries bring with them, while having a large number of verbets. I really recommend.

Great app!. I found it to be the most useful app available without spending money that doesn't meet expectations. The 'der' 'die' 'das' is missing which needs to be fixed but overall with the conjugations, quiz and ease of use it is by far the best on the market. Thanks for the app!

Very handy. Having learnt German to undertake a three year posting, I have tried to keep up my skill. I do a short daily lesson on another app and find that the dictionary app is a very handy backup. It is very easy to use and helpfully provides noun genders and verb forms.

Very useful. This app shows you how to conjugate verbs which deserves a medal in my opinion. Two suggestions for improving: 1. Update it for larger iPhone screens. The app was made for iPhone 5/5s screen sizes which is now 3 generations out of date. 2. Plurals and genitiv case for nouns. Apart from that top effort.

Dog slow. Unusably slow. Takes seconds to display the results of each letter typed and no more letters can be entered while waiting.

Great App!. This app has helped me so much with learning German. It has pretty much everything I need for learning German at school. The only thing is that it is missing a few general words. Option to copy words. Although I‘m new to this app I find it useful and friendly to use. I haven’t yet found how to copy a word. The copy and paste functions are very useful, they would enhance the app‘s usability.

Great Suppoeting App. I am learning German and this app serves as my handy, super fast, easy to use pocket an in-class dictionary.

Useful. The audio for pronunciation is great help! Variation on the grammar could be better & add more high German words!

Limited dictionary word list. I found that half the German words I was looking up weren't in the dictionary in any tense, some of them in fairly common usage. I bought the extended dictionary word list and would refund it if I could as it remained a paltry sliver of the word list expected in even a pocket dictionary.

Very good. Very useful and particularly with conjugations. Size of vocabulary reasonable for free. It also gives pronunciations but advise you to know some basic German first. There is a paid version with more vocabulary which I may purchase if too many words are missing in the free version.

Very useful. I frequently use this while studying German (using apps). It is so helpful to quickly check, say, the gender of a noun. Easy to use and well designed. Good job, people.

Top drawer. A superb app. Easy to use. Comprehensive. Can't fault it. The French version is similarly excellent.

A great resource for learning. I find that using Vidalingua ~ Wörterbuch und Übersetzung (German dictionary and translation) most helpful as I attempt to learn something about the language. I find the app most helpful for providing 1. Correct spelling of words 2. Gender of nouns 3 Conjugation of verbs 4. Examples of combination of words provide an English translation. I note that translation from one language to another, conveying the nuance of meaning is difficult. As a free app, this is certainly most helpful. I have not ventured into the in-app purchases

Good for free!. On a iPhone 4S with iOS 6 it performs faster than my fingers and has enough words to be useful.

Best language tool I've ever used. Very easy to use, excellent tool. Has lots of vocabulary and many grammar tools. Cannot recommend this enough!

Audio. My friend downloaded this game and his audio worked but when I downloaded it the audio would not work and I'm really confused if it's my phone or if it's the app itself I would rate it higher but the only thing letting it down is the audio for me

A Great App for German language students. The Vidalingua Translator Plus is a "must have" for German language students. The free app is an excellent dictionary for learning German. I don't like advertisements, so I subscribe to the Translator Plus. The small annual fee helps to support further development. The developers do an excellent job enhancing an already great app. Each new version introduces amendments and new features. I like how the friendly team welcomes even minor suggestions from users for improving the application; and they are not averse, either, to considering suggestions for significant new features, which improve the quality of the user's experience. The feedback loop is great way of getting extra value and enjoyment in learning a new language. I highly recommend Vidalingua Translator Plus to all new German language students, and indeed students of French and the other languages which Vidalingua cover with their Translators and Dictionaries.

Useful App, works well. This is an App I am using in Germany. It helps me translate words and phrases from German to English along the way. It works well, and I find it useful to extend my vocabulary. Grammar and verbs forms in particular seem accurately presented. There is a heart symbol for the words you like. I would find it more useful if that allowed me to create and save my own list of words or phrases I want to memorise.

A good first point of reference. I use this app as a starting point and it usually gives the answer I need. Much more convenient than a conventional dictionary, which I only need to fall back on occasionally.

Helpful. Have found it very helpful. It has made my correspondence much easier.

Easy to use. I like this app. It's fairly comprehensive, provides context variations for translations, is easy to search with as it lists both German and English possibilities together. I'd like to see, or hear, spoken examples on a wider range of words, but other than that I'm very happy with this app.

German translator. Im not finding this app very useful as it usually doesn’t know what Im asking to translate or consistently asks: ‘How Are You Enjoying This App’ ! Or: ‘ Rate This App’? For an app of poor translation quality & service it constantly interrupts you. I don’t recommend it. Id give it 3/10.

VC. Love it, but a lot of the words that come up in English are not something that I would use often, eg verschneiden = spay, etc but also to bungle according to another dictionary. I was wondering how I was going to put “spay” into my polite German conversation 🤣. Still it is a great app.

Doesn't support 6s screen resolution. The keyboard and pages are massive and fuzzy. It looks terrible.

I use it all the time. Could benefit from a few improvements with the navigation front, but it is a dictionary after all. Fairly complete and slick.

Good app except for ad pop up. Ads pop too many times too frequently. I understand someone needs to pay for the app but it's just way too much to the point that it interferes with using the app. Also many words are not in.

Great but the speak doesn't work. The part that is supposed to say the word doesn't work at all other than that it's great

Dictionary. An excellent app, very accurate translations.

Google’s Translator Program. This program is quite easy to use, after some experimenting to learn how it works. I was able to save translated phrases to Notes, and then from there to an e-mail. I didn’t find a way to transfer translated phrases directly from this program to e-mail, which would have speeded my use by removing my need for the sequential transfers.

Awesome Tool. I've never experienced an app that is just so useful and intuitive- it makes learning German so much easier! I can take a picture of myself and tack it on to the translation of "selfie" lol. I can test and drill myself and the ability to take pics or search online for them really helps me retain the vocabulary I want! I highly recommend.

Great APP. I love the dexterity of being able to use the English/Deutsch back and forth. I haven’t used the voice recognition yet, but I feel confident that when it is used, it too will be most accurate and helpful.

Incredibly stupid ads. Just as you begin typing an entry incredibly stupid ads of no interest whatever take over the screen and many of them can not be closed. It certainly spoils whatever impulse one might have toward buying the paid version.

Quite helpful. The translator is remarkably good. My german is not yet perfect but the sentences I have tested are fairly complicated and the app translates it perfectly. It amazes me because German grammar is so complicated. Also the dictionary is pretty big and full of useful words, though I did notice some missing. That's not too much of a problem, as the synonyms for these words were available.

Far Better than Google Translate. This app is incredibly consistent in format. I have access to an entire language at my fingertips— and, trust me, I'm using it. This is my favorite app to quickly reference words. However, I would LOVE to see a 'Russian Dictionary & Translator'. Definitely the #1 German-English App! *****

Good. This app is good and it serves its purpose. Ads are reasonable and at a minimum. But one problem I have is when I go into the “phrases” area, the entire phrase will show up in English, but not German. Only half of the phrase will show up. It speaks the entire phrase, but only half of it is visible. I hope this is just a glitch and will be fixed in the future.

Unfixed bugs. Used to love this app but right around the time I went all in for the paid version (not too cheap if I remember correctly) the great pronunciation features stopped working. It no longer pulls recording from the web and the computer generated voice is stuck on the fastest setting. I sent an email to them to let them know and got a trite response back that they were aware of the problem. Wish they'd fix it it's been several months now and my paid version is really only a year subscription.

So far so good. I only just started using the app and am finding it helpful enough already to sign up for the free trial (which obviously comes with the agreement that you will forget to cancel it, and so therefore are willing to pay the subscription fee). $5 a year seems reasonable to have this great dictionary in your pocket. I am traveling to Germany soon and planning out words I’ll need to know and use to communicate my food sensitivity issues. I love how it can pronounce the words for you, you can tap a heart to make a list of favorite words, and it sometimes provides example sentences of the word in use. For words that have multiple translations in German (like the words for ‘food’—why are there so many??), you can tap on any one of them to take you to the page for that word and get a little more information about each words’ nuances. It might be nice to have a little more disambiguation there, perhaps with some pictures. The app is nothing fancy, but it does just what I need it to do. It shows gender for nouns but not much else, so it’s fairly simple and very informative. Good for a beginner, which I am, and it’ll help me ramp up my vocabulary a lot, I imagine. I will update my review as needed, but so far the app seems great! Thanks to other reviewers for giving me the confidence to sign up (by saying how helpful it is and that it’s worth paying for), and to the app developers for making something user-friendly that fits the need.

Awesome. This app is amazing, and I currently have not a single problem with it. It gives English and German word definitions, as well as a very accurate translation into the other language. It can verbalized the words too, so that you can pronounce them correctly, and has "every day life" words from both America and England.

GREAT Dictionary App!. I have bought multiple versions of your app in a variety of languages that I study. I LOVE it! I have tried many apps — but I LOVE the consistent format you bring to these apps in the various languages. The BEST part — it is all beautifully linked. You type in the word you are looking for, and the app automatically finds definitions in whatever language you typed (without having to change the language, as most other apps require). Also, the VERB conjugations are wonderful! You look up a verb — click on "conjugate" in the upper right — and you instantly have access to ALL conjugations in all tenses of that verb. NO other app I have tried comes close to convenience for rapidity of verb conjugations (and I have tried MANY other apps). This dictionary is not as good for longer translations (I use another app for that ... ) — but for everything else, it is the best iphone/ipad app I have found for very fast and accurate translations and verb conjugation review. Thank you! NOTE #1 — The non-paid versions are inferior. But the adds go away and the dictionary greatly expands if you get the paid apps (well worth the money!). NOTE #2 — Someone mentioned they had trouble hearing the words. I did to until I shut off "Go on-line for better quality" — after which I heard the voices well. The "slow" speed is still a bit fast, but understandable.

A prerequisite for having German friends. As someone who travels I often meet people who speak foreign languages and we sometimes become friends on Facebook. This app has been incredibly useful for keeping up with these global friends, and I would suggest it for anyone who travels. New version has translator which is awesome! I wasn't sure where the quiz went but I contacted supported and they explained it moved to the More tab.

German. The German/ English worked out well for us. We where there for a month visiting family. It enables us to travel to Switzerland with no language barrier. Keep up the fantastic job. Now pick a destination vacation so that we can learn new words when we get there. Thanks again, Timothy Klein

Great. So useful app, I mean it😍

Invaluable tool. While learning to speak Deutsch, I cannot understate the value of having a tool like this. Yes, I can always go to an online translator, but the flexibility of being able to quickly do a dictionary lookup of specific words while still capable of doing phase translation by switching tabs is amazing. True, it has difficulty translating a phrase from time to time, but what translator doesn’t? I rate this app at the highest level and use it multiple times every day in my language study.

Very Useful & Decently Enjoyable. It is definitely helping me learn German for upcoming visits; my single year of German class was many years ago. It would be more helpful if some of the answers to drills were not so obvious; you can guess the correct answers so easily as to not learn much. The dictionary is a bit limited but satisfactory - but I would like to see the noun gender immediately. Also verb conjugation could be improved. Still, very good product!

Useful app. I started using this app about 2/3 way through my second semester of German and have found it incredibly useful to quickly look up words. I also screenshot common words and it's like having digital flash cards on your phone.

Good dictionary. The number of words is fairly extensive, especially with the in-app purchase/extension. Occasionally, I do find words that it doesn't have though. Verb conjugation is quite good. Phrase book is ok, enough to get you around, but not for extended conversation. There is an option to add custom phrases though, and it is pretty good with the translation. The audio is digital voice from the web, not native speakers, so every once in a while you will get something that doesn't sound correct. Otherwise the audio is good. Offline audio is terrible and very fast, but it will work in a pinch. The quiz function quizzes the entire dictionary, so only good for advanced users.

Great App that Could be Even Better. I use the app frequently. The two enhancements I’d like to see are plurals of nouns and links to the meaning of “category words”. For example, if I look up the meaning of a German word, there may be multiple meanings for different situations or “categories”. I may not know the meaning of these category words.

Great for helping with German learning!!. It is still early days yet for me regarding this app, but I am already so impressed with it that I paid for the annual fee for it. So useful, beautifully intuitive, very easy to use. I am looking forward to updating my review when I have used it more, but so far this is my favorite app for learning German vocabulary and pronunciation.

Great app for German learners. I use this app daily as a reference while teaching myself German. The dictionary is fairly extensive and easy to search through. The verb conjugations are also excellent because it has all the forms you could ever want. I only wish the dictionary included the plural form of words (I always have to look that up elsewhere) and that the verb function allowed you to search the different conjugations. For example I came across the word "verloren" which looks like an infinitive form of a verb but turns out to be the past tense wir/sie form of verlieren. I figured that out using other means but it would be useful if the app allowed you to search different conjugated forms. Maybe that's a premium feature, though. I'm not sure. Overall, I love this app and highly recommend it. Sehr gut für Deutsch lernen!

Disappointing for a serious student. I don’t care for subscriptions so I paid for the full version and still get ads which you have to sit through. It makes you angry when you are sitting in a quiet environment and all of a sudden you have an ad blaring out at you and everyone else. Also when you look up a noun, the plural forms are not indicated or linked. Since the plural forms of nouns are all over the map in German they should be right there with the noun. I had to use google translator to find the plural for horses (Pferde) which was not in the dictionary anywhere.

Amazing App. I have been using this translator for around a year now in German class and recreationally and after trying many other sources for my translating needs have decided this is the ultimate app! From the phrase book to the efficient dictionary providing not only words but examples of use, articles, and synonyms this app has it all. The translations are more accurate then Google Translate and I couldn’t have asked for a better app. Thank you so much!

Why use Google when There’s This?. I was always nervous using Google Translator with its notorious bugs and not understanding double-meanings/translations for certain words. The only downside to this app is when you translate something, it doesn’t always separate the German formal “Sie” versus the informal “du.” But other than that, it’s super accurate!

If you like to study by yourself , this app is for you!. I've been using this app since I studied german language. I don't have no problems so far and I strongly recommends this. I really like the built in function for pronunciations and if you really wanted to explore word forms , conjugation and tenses, well see it for yourself. Im sone here. keep up the good work guys always appreciate this.

Awesome App. I took one year of German in college. That was 57 years ago (I am 76 years old now). I've been using this app and Duolingo to practice/learn German for the past month and will continue to use it for at least another three weeks when I go to Germany. What a wonderful Dictionary! My only dislike is that the paid version costs 8 dollars. Too much! I would be more than happy to pay one and maybe even two dollars but eight dollars is over-the-top.

Definitely recommend. One of the top German translator apps that I have tried. I'm using it every day to help with a German class I'm taking. Just one request: please please please put the noun gender in the results list. Don't make the user click into the detailed view to find the gender. One can see if a word is noun, adjective, or verb in the results list. Another indicator for noun gender would be excellent!

Best Free German/English app I tried. I tried 3 or 4 and this not seemed to be the best. You can nicely jump from translation to translation for words within a definition, and then even click to jump to the conjugation tab if a word is a verb. Doesn't harass you to purchase things. No complaints.

Very useful. Dictionary works great anytime. Translator is particularly good, but only if you have internet. So far I’ve only had one or two phrases that the translator wasn’t able to get perfectly. This app is great for anyone who is willing to put in just a tiny bit of leg-work and who is interested in actually learning something. Also pronounces phrases for you upon request! Get learning!

German English app, great update. This update has a lot more usage examples and idioms. That's very helpful for understanding words in context, even more than translations. Now you can see if missing words are in paid version. May spring for it but finding this covers what I need for now.

Great help for business travel. I regularly go to Germany for both business and pleasure and find this dictionary to be invaluable. The new offline capabilities are even better. Even though I am lucky to speak almost fluent German there are always words and phrases with which I need help. This is a "must have" item for my trips.

Definitely worth buying. I've look at different dictionary apps that's translated English to German. I'm taking classes to Learn German and this app has help me so much to understand and to pronounce German language. I love the fact that I can adjust the voice speed to really help pronounce correctly, I highly recommend it this app especially to those who are learning to speak German. Also the other features on this are awesome as well, it's definitely WORTH the money. Du wirst es nicht bereuen.

I love this app!. I completely love this app! I have a friend who speaks perfect English but when it comes to texting, he finds it easier to text me in German so I’ve downloaded this app so I can communicate with him in German. He was so excited when I started responding to his text messages in German! Thanks to this app, my friend and I have been talking nonstop!

It works. And offline.. Traveling in Germany without a data plan makes other apps that require data to look up words somewhat useless. However, this dictionary could use some updates. It seems to have tons of words, but it's missing quite a few common ones.

Good Offline Dictionary! (unpaid version). This has been a great resource for me while in Europe since I don't have a data plan for my phone. My experience has been that it has most words I'm looking for. It gives the gender for all of the nouns, but it doesn't have plural forms yet. Overall I would recommend it.
