Absolutely essential. I turn to this app constantly for fun and ‘serious’, needless to say the pronunciation feature is so life saving. I am of Sicilian heritage and also enjoy the comparison I do between Sicilian and Italian terms.

Fun and educational. I love being able to speak to my Dad in his family’s language. He is 89 and loves reminiscing about his childhood. I can enter a word and this app translates it and provides a few other uses and describes what type it is- verb, noun etc.

Needs expanding.. Could be expanded to include phrases instead of just individual words. Very good overall.

Not perfect, but pretty good. The translatorand dictionary always defaults to English input( for me), must always be aware what language I’m typing in. Wish it could detect language. No biggie. Helps me out when I’m having trouble adjusting my syntax in a literal translation.

Very usable app. This is a very useful and usable app. I like that I can go directly from an English word’s Italian equivalent to the Italian entry for that word, to compare how it translates back to English. That often reveals subtleties in the way a word represents slightly different concepts in the two languages. Most entries also include useful examples, and all are provided with native-speaker audio pronunciation.

Fast and Accurate. When reading an article and coming across a word I don’t know, this app is just great. Rather than flipping through pages of a paper dictionary, just type in the word and the translation is almost instant. Great app!

Translation and Meaning. The translator, dictionary, and verb tenses are indispensable. I love the way that examples of sentences using the vocabulary words are included to help one learn how to idiomatically use the language. Language must be learned in context.

Great help in communicating with friends in Italy. This app is very helpful to communicate with friends in Italy since I don’t speak Italian well and they don’t know much English. It translates sentences, speaks them for you, and allows you to look up words.

Fantastic. This app is great. I use it every while working on my Italian lessons. I especially like the dictionary lookup function. You only have to start typing the word and suggestions appear; that helps when you’re not quit sure about the spelling. I also like being able to select a word and getting the pronunciation and also being able to look up the word, and to get the conjugation for verbs. I’ve recommended it to my friends also studying Italian I’ve upgraded to the plus version, not only to get the additional features but also to say thanks fora great app.

Good but update app listing. Works well, great for helping translate between English and Italian. Update the app listing so that the "In-App Purchases" options actually reflect what is offered. You can only purchase the "Pro" subscription now. There no longer is an option to purchase the Extended Dictionary, Phrase Book, or Verb Conjugator.

Best Italian app!. I have used this app for years. I loved and use the free version so much that I paid for the full version. Initially, I had an issue with the paid version, but they promptly responded and fixed the glitch. I very rarely pay for apps, but this has been one of the best resources for learning Italian - especially the iPhone version.

Love Italia. Great app. Really helped on my recent Italy trip.

Fun app, but free version is bare bones in vocabulary. This apps comes with a lot of fun helpful features for beginners in Italian, like vocabulary games and conjugation tables. Once you pass the beginner stage and start reading books though, you'll find the free version a bit lacking in vocabulary. For example, you won't find the word for squirrel (scoiattolo), or barter (barattare). These are essential words that any functional dictionary should have.

The best. Vidalingua English/Italian is the BEST dictionary app thanks to listing both languages in the same screen. Also offers good flashcards, quizzes etc.

Free Italian English. I will buy this app when you remove the USA flag from the splash screen and icon. The UK flag should always be used to represent English. People in the USA do not speak or use a different English to the standard textbook English, which is British. They only spell differently, however international English should be using British spelling anyway. Otherwise this is a very useful app. I look forward to purchasing it once it is not associated with the USA.

Ascendo Italian English Dictionary. This dictionary has everything you could wish for, and more, to make learning a language fun and thereby reducing a lot of the hard slog involved. You will still need those grammar text books, but I could not imagine a better tool than this. Excellent.

Language Students need the best dictionaries.. The Vidalingua Translator and Dictionary is the best combined dictionary and translator I know for Italian (and for other languages with the appropriate Vidalingua application). I subscribe and I find that my time learning is so much simpler and effective. Their dictionary & translation apps are essential for those seriously learning languages. Those “just testing the water” will find their studies far more rewarding by using the Vidalingua Language Apps. By all means try the free versions supported by advertising, but, if you are like me, you will see the benefits of the very reasonable subscription, to streamline your learning. Thank you Vidalingua for your help supporting both young and older returning language students.

Best Dictionary there is. I have been using this dictionary for over 2 years and can say without a doubt it is the best, most comprehensive, easy-to-use dictionary out there. In addition, if a word is not in the dictionary, just touch the globe icon and it automatically looks up the word through other online sources. Automatically switches between English & Italian as you type in the word. You are also able to add your own notes to any word, for example if slang or regional use of the word has another meaning that isn't listed in the dictionary. The latest version has several more enhancements over earlier versions. Highly recommended.

Not happy. My favourite Italian dictionary app, but I can’t say I’m entirely happy with it. I paid 20 dollars for the expended vocabulary and no ads *before* the dictionary went subscriber based and now I only have the free version. 3 stars. If this didn’t happen then it would’ve been 5 stars.

Great app. Accurate, included vocabulary is good and conjugates well. Good interface. No internet connection needed so it will be useful when i am in Italy and don't have Internet.

Extended version is a con. This app works well, includes audio, and is useful for looking up common words when you’re offline, but the “thousands of extra words” you supposedly get when you shell out for the paid version appears to be primarily made up simply of every conjugated form of every verb that was already there in the free version - as far as I’ve been able to tell so far, you do NOT get very many genuinely new words at all. Save your money and stick with the free version: unless you’re a beginner, you’ll be slightly irritated that you know most of the words in this dictionary already anyway, but at least you won’t be as irritated as me at having paid for a supposedly “expanded” version that still doesn’t contain most of the (less-common) words that I need to look up.

This app is indispensable to my writing in Italian!. Everything I need for writing Italian is so accessible with this app. I scarcely have need of my thick book form English-Italian dictionary or my book of Vern conjugations. The only improvement I could suggest is the addition of the gerund form of each verb. Just after I wrote the above review my suggestion was added to the dictionary and the gerund form is now included. I truly could not write as well as I do in Italian without the ready accessibility of such a comprehensive resource! Kudos!

Great. This dictionary is very helpful. The tests are a little bit easy but the translations, conjugations and normal phrases are accurate. Internet connection is required for the pronunciation of words.

Recent problems. This is a great app and I have been using it without any problems until recently. The app has developed problems in the last month or so . It very often does not conjugate the verbs . You need to address this problem, otherwise the app is really very good.

Good app, some suggestions.. I really like the fact that I can use this app offline. Perfect for when I quickly need to fetch a word or can't understand someone. I wish the phrase search function was more useful though. When I search, for example, "how long" it says no results, even though the phrase is in the app. Everything else is great though, and I would recommend purchasing add ons as needed.

My Go To App. This app is so useful to a beginning student. It not only gives a simple definition, but also gives the many idiomatic ways words are used in everyday language. Complete conjugation tables as well as the ability to hear the word spoken are added bonuses. It is a rare occasion when I cannot find a word I need. My only suggestion would be to have a verb quiz where one could practice conjugating verbs in the most used tenses rather than simply a vocabulary quiz.

Rediscovering my first language. I’ve been in the USA for over fifty-six years, hardly spoke in Italian other than mostly a southern dialect. Trough my resorting to the translations I’ve come to the point where my Italian is very fluent... again. Use of this simple but fairly comprehensive program has been the Best thing (linguistically, that is) I have done in a long time. 👍👍👍👍

Don't go to Model UN without it!!. As someone who has attended a lot of model UNs I often meet people who speak foreign languages and we sometimes become friends on Facebook. This app has been incredibly useful for keeping up with these global friends, and I would suggest it for anyone who travels!

Wonderful quick guide to have at your fingertips. I must use it 10x/day. I love it! I use it to help me remember conjugation, pronunciation & expression. I am by no means a native speaker & I learned Italian from my father who spoke with a Neapolitan dialect, so not everyone understood the words he used, not even my mother from Bari. In any case, I really find this dictionary to be a lifesaver! ❤️

Very Useful App!!. The dictionary has been pretty useful, as a quick reference..as I practice speaking with a friend or reading..instead of always pulling out a full dictionary. And, I just discovered the verb tense conjugation (listed or choose your tense!). I really appreciate the common phrases listed under most words (things you usually have to read books to pick up!). I like...& will use..this app even more now that I see it does much more than just basic dictionary stuff!!!! Definitely worth downloading!!!

Very helpful!. I love that even the conjugations of verbs are listed and tell you what the infinitive form is. And it's just like brpwsing an actual dictionary in case you can't remember the exact spelling. One HUGE improvement would be to italicize or underline the emphasized syllable on the words where it does not fall on the next to last syllable or accented final letter! If you add this feature I will absolutely give this app 5stars!

Very Useful. The dictionary gets better with every update. The conjugation feature for Italian verbs is a great addition. Now if the developers would add the ability for users to add words that would be perfect as it lacks a fair number of food, automotive, and medical words that I needed while living in Italy for the past 5 years. Outstanding app for advanced and beginners!. Excellent app! Since vocabulary is downloaded, you can use it without service. There are very few times I have searched for a word that was not located within the app. This can be used for both advanced and beginners, and the verb conjugations has added me considerably! I would definitely recommend downloading this!

Almost perfect. One thing I would change is when you are on the app and you are playing something in the background, like music, the volume lowers to half. In a way it does help me if I’m working on something but other times it’s just bothersome.

Great app!. This app is very helpful. I use it on my iPad, and it gives for free the most helpful phrases, and there is a dictionary! To see more phrases, they want money, but the free version is still wonderful. The one problem I see, is that on the free version, it won't play a voice of how to say the phrase, but still very helpful! (that may just be my device.)

A Useful Traveler's Tool. The bilingual dictionary has a well-chosen set of vocabulary items. Although I don't speak Italian, I do speak Spanish, and I often found that I could look up an Italian word quickly, and plug it into a sentence that was grammatically correct in Spanish, and be understood in Italian. A real cross-linguistic confidence builder!

Great Dictionary. Great dictionary. I like how it does verbs. You can type in the verb you want and it tells you the infinitive that you can tap to see the conjugation if you want. I'm just starting to learn Italian, and I like to read a book in a language I'm learning even though I have to look up almost every word. I hardly ever come across a word that isn't in this dictionary. Well worth the money.

Great app. Easy to use

Zero customer support. Waist of money. The better quality online pronunciation voices stopped working and the built in computer voices are very poor quality and useless for many words. There is NO WAY this app is worth ten dollars without the high quality pronunciation. I also get a big banner ad at the bottom of the screen. I DO NOT WANT ADS IN APPS I PAY FOR! I'm sure the pronunciation problem is fixable but you can't get this company to respond to emails.

Helpful App. This can really speed up ones reading of Italian text. Sometimes the textual meaning and the word definition seems to be out of phase but it certainly is an improvement over pounding a paper bound dictionary

Very Helpful!. I got this app thinking that I'd need wifi to use it and the verbs I would have to look up here and conjugate somewhere else. But, I don't need wifi which is especially helpful bc I don't usually have it when in Italy and it can conjugate any verb you look up. Big help for an Americana living in Firenze. I love this app, it is much quicker than fumbling with a dictionary when I need a word quickly. It's great to have on my iPad for homework assignments and on my phone for when I am walking around town and want to learn a new word on the go. I wish you could search by the conjugated form of verbs though.

Italian Verb conjugations. A few verbs are not conjugated for some reason. E.g. racchiudere, to enclose. If there is a reason it would be really helpful to say why. Also, it would be very useful to explain the difference in usage for verbs meaning the same thing. E. g. Divide: dividere & separate; put: mettere & porre; become: divenire & diventare , and many more. This is a very, very good application and I hope my suggestions can help improve it even more so. Thank you

Useful app for quick reference. I teach English in Italy to Italians and this app is useful when I need to translate something quickly. Its valuable to me because I don't have to search through a real dictionary or on google while others do. In fact, sometimes we have races and I always get there first! Anyways if you lean on this application for the majority of your translating then I would purchase the full version because in this free version there are not all of the verbs or vocab. This app could benefit by adding dialect to its dictionary because Italian dialects are much more prevalent than in English.

Extremely helpful. Itialian is a regional language, and it is unreasonable to expect that all regional dialects will be comprehensively covered in a free dictionary app. However, with this dictionary, a non-italian speaker can make himself understood and translate written text contained in a restaurant menu, newspaper articles, or tourist brochures.

Great travel app and more. The features I like the most are the ability to look up verb conjugations and the ability to use the app offline. Very handy when traveling abroad! I'm a student of the Italian language and this is my goto app for translations.

Super Helpful. My wife and I are exploring the small towns between Siena and Florence. We're trying hard to get off the beaten path and try to lose ourselves in the culture. Extremely helpful and well made. As a student of Italian, I use this app all the time! It's super easy to use, and provides very useful information. My favorite feature of this app is that it provides verb conjugations in every possible form, including many I've never even heard of (and all of the ones that you need to know). And then my 2nd favorite thing, is that this also works OFF LINE (no data, no wifi). Obviously it can be used with data, but as a foreigner in Italy, one might not have access to wifi or a lot of data to spend, so I absolutely LOVE that feature, and it's why I prefer this app over any other, including going to google! The only thing I wish was included in this app is the articles of the words (il, i, la, le) and singular and plural conversions of nouns. This would be extremely helpful as there are many irregularities in the Italian language, and beginning (or intermediate) students could really benefit from having that information easily at their disposal in this app.

I love this App! Made our lives easy in Italy. This Italian English Dictionary was the perfect thing. When my wife and I went to Florence we lived by it. The phrases tool is really nice to have. From simple directions, to ordering, hotels and greetings and live pronunciation we actually started to fit in:) The quizzes are easy to use as well. We had a lot of fun on the train learning our Italia. A must have app. New version has more examples which is nice. Thank you.

Helpful (free) reference. We are finishing up a trip to Venice and Rome, and while the dictionary was missing some words that I tried to look up, overall it was very helpful finding the word or phrase we needed. We didn't buy any of the extension packs, but working off the free version was definitely good enough for our needs.

Best in class, lots of updates. I've tried many apps to learn Italian and this is the one I come back to over and over. It keeps getting better with each new update. The paid version is the whole 9-yards but free version is good enough for beginners. I would like to see business phrases category in next update.

All of the sudden started crashing. I use(d) this daily for quite some time while living in Italy, and all of the sudden today it started crashing. I was trying to figure out why I was still getting ads even though I paid for premium, and now the app won’t even open. The app seemed pretty good, but not the most intuitive. Verb conjugations seem to be opposite the language they should be in. Maybe they will fix it and I can use it again, otherwise I’ll find another app.

Excellent App for travelers. This is a great resource for finding the the word you need to communicate with Italian speakers. When you can't think of the correct way of saying something you can look it up in a second.

Italiano on the go. I'm finding this app to be my most used for learning Italian. I use the dictionary most often. It's missing some words but still very complete for free app. You can check if missing words are in paid version by tapping on info icon that appears in search bar. Took me a while to catch on because it only appears if you type in something that's not in free dico.

A very useful app. This is a very useful app. I've been using it as a dictionary, and almost all my inputs have been translated. It is also useful to be able to hear the pronunciations of some words. As a part time student of Italian for several years now, this is one of the better inter-language dictionaries I've found.

Superb application. I, also, use this app practically every day. It is the single most comprehensive and useful Italian language application I have ever come across. Everything you need, in one place! In addition I received excellentSupport from the developers fixing a problem with my subscription. My experience was so good, I’m looking into their other language applications.

MORE THAN EXPECTED!. I hoped for Italian words with definitions but got also root words, variations of the same along with multiple sentences using the words. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the program made me notice what I didn't have which was etymologies. Thanks so much. I really like it.

Great App!. I use this app in conjunction with other apps to help learn Italian. It helps to see the written word as well as the added feature of listening to the pronunciation. If you are learning to speak and write Italian, you need to look no further than this app. It is a great app!!!

Clumsy. Shouldn’t the spell check automatically work in Italian?

Very happy, easiest to use, many words!. I love this FAST app! This free version gives full use without being connected to the internet, saving time, money and battery. It is great in the grocery store, reading signs, labels, menus and quick lookup during conversations. One great thing, no need to choose a language, it shows the matching words as you type, English or Italian. Shows parts of speech, usage, pronunciation, and you can click on other words within the definition. Very, very happy with this app!

Comprehensive!. I studied Italian for three years and I used this app a lot for my assignments. It's really comprehensive and even gives you translations based on category when a word has multiple meanings. The conjugation tool is also really convenient. I am working in Italy this summer and this app has been invaluable!
