While we’d really rather not have any limits on listening, we’ve exhausted all possible options to keep 8tracks free for everyone, as it has been for the past 8 years. Unfortunately, with increases in royalty rates, we have no choice but to shift towards subscriptions for listeners in the US (which we’ve priced as affordably as possible) to ensure a healthy future for our service and the community.
I've been a user since I was in college (2015) and I loved it. Then they started charging all of the sudden and I wasn't happy about it but the price wasn't bad. I don't remember it saying it's a promo price and their customer service doesn't do anything but make excuses rather than actually making it a good experience. Your CX team is lazy and unprepared. If you care about your customers, you would send courtesy emails of changes BEFORE they happen. Then all the sudden I was being billed for 4.99 instead of 2.99 and was notified by another service I use. Thank god for them. I would think the price is justified IF I could use the features that you have. I know many people that use it just to favorite songs then continuously listen to them. Now you can't even do that. I'd rather pay $10 for YouTube and get all the same music without horrid CX. Bye forever.
I've been a paid member for over a year and have enjoyed finding and listening to playlists that others have created. Up until recently anyways. Many, and I mean MANY, of the songs on most of the workout playlists have been replaced by a alternate version of the song. I get that its likely because of the music licensing, but that's not what I paid for. It's like listening to Top 40 karaoke style. If you don't listen to mainstream music, 8tracks is great. Otherwise, your better off with pandora or paying for YouTube and make your own playlist on there. Glad I didn't invest
I have had 8tracks for as long as I can remember! It was the perfect app when I was annoyed with Pandora. The fact you could search anything and there would be at least one playlist for it was incredible. You want "Tripping acid at Easter dinner"? BAM!! Playlist for it. I understand the reasoning for the membership and fees. I get it. It's just sad that it had to happen to such an artistic, unique, and people friendly app. I'm sorry 8tracks, I love you, but I can't afford you. Peace. ✌🏻
Have been using 8tracks since 2009. I don't mind that this is not an on-demand serive. These are playlists that you have to listen through which to me is better. Keeps my attention. The other services aren't horrible but ultimately there is no other service like 8tracks. Best new music discovery. I love it because the playlists are created by music lovers who have to take the time to create them. Time to create a cover and cool title, set a mood. You can like playslists, save them to category you create. Awesome organization. Like having your own personal streaming library of favorites. Only someone who truely loves music will do this. I love discovery of old music, sometimes mixed in with new music with the same sound and vibe. So much fun to pick any genre and find amazing playlists to match. My favorite genres are typicaly new wave, coldwave, goth, EBM and the playlists never disappoint. Always great to see what like minded fans are listening to and surprising me with bands I didnt know about. Same for Indie music. I have plenty of playlists myself. Oh, how can I forget! It's the best yearly subscription price for a streaming service.
I first downloaded this app in 2012 or so... I loved it! I could make playlists and express my love of music with whoever I wanted. Sure, it was difficult to make playlists since they were never available to make on mobile devices, but I really loved this app. Everything was great until a few months ago I realized you had LIMITED listening time?! Ridiculous. I understand limited skips and such, but listening time... No thank you. A perfect app completely ruined.
It's fine if they want to make money but unless you get premium the conditions just aren't worth the download. It hurt to delete the app but it had no worth to me anymore.
Listen now. Constantly discovering new music through awesome community created playlists.
This app was the best music app I've ever downloaded and I loved it. You could listen to as many playlists as you wanted, with only limited skips per playlist, but I was fine with that. Now you have to pay to listen to unlimited playlists and only get a certain amount of "listening time" which is ridiculous. I'm disappointed that one of my favorite music apps is no longer useful and fun.
Pandora, Spotify, and other large music-streaming apps are able to keep up without listening limits, so why does 8tracks have to use them? Can't they just use the methods that Spotify and Pandora use? I loved this app. It got me through a lot of hard times and I was able to express myself through finding music that I could relate to. It's not like that anymore, though. Use more ads, do whatever you need to, but just remove or at least loosen the listening limit.
The app won't turn any way when I move the iPad sideways. It says the same which kind of gets annoying after a while. But in other areas it's doing a great job
Went from being my favorite app, to the most wasteful/useless one. In the effort to profit, you just lost a lot of revenue.
I know everyone is upset about only 1 free hour of listening and I too, am not happy about it (I mean come on, we either are subjected to spreading out our time to a couple of songs a day or to choose one day where we use all of our time, sorry 8tracks). BUTTTT, I have loved this app since the day I downloaded it so long ago and it is still my hidden gem of an app. It'll be a sad day if this company cannot overcome its financial burdens. But for now, I'm gonna enjoy it while it's here and hey I'm actually considering PAYING for its service (something I never do). Still love ya, 8tracks! I'm rooting for you!
You people are out there.... I think you people need to understand that this is actually a company and there is nothing on top of the building screaming Free - you spend how much on Apple Phones & other products in addition to apps??? But you won't pay for a music service stop being as Maher would say "whiney little #%*+€'" and stop being cheap
Don't bother downloading! Been a long time user for years but they changed it and now you are limited to 1hr of music per week. Then you have to pay $5 a month which is a joke! Sound quality, songs, and user interface do NOT compare to market leaders such as pandora and Spotify which offer better paid service. 1/5
Used to love this app. Got to listen to good music and playlists every day. Now you only get 1hr for free a week. What a joke. Great idea but completely greedy. I used to recommend to all my friends. On to the next one I guess.
They are charging now but their major problem is they don't actually create the content. Most of the people who create their most popular playlists don't even have access anymore cause of price problems. I paid so I can keep getting song recommendations but i will be moving soon as this is hardly tenable. All they had to do was keep a free option and discount for content creators but they won't.
So first, if you have T-mobile this is a great app to have since it uses Binge, meaning unlimited data usage. Honestly I know it's a bummer that you have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription now, but that's how markets works guys. I really do love that I have access to little known music from YouTube, SoundCloud, and more. Sure it's a little hard to find some music and sometimes user created playlists don't fit your tastes, but sometimes it's nice to hear other people's music. For now at least, I'll stick with 8Tracks. But you might want to figure out how to fix the perma-skip when a VPN is used.
...and losing another customer.
I used to really like this app. Before you could even make playlist of genres. Things have progressively gotten worse; added to that fact, now there is a premium subscription service. I guess I can delete this app now. Looks like the new business model they made allows then to lose listeners while still making money because such a few amount of people need to sign up in order for this to be successful. Smart. But peace, I'm out!
Sad to say goodbye to this app which used to be my favorite until you guys came up with some stupid idea to charge monthly. Used to be my favorite app but now it's just going in the garbage... goodbye
